How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay
International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have their
roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Prussia in 1849
1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the intent of maintaining
law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was worked out. This set the
precedent for peacekeeping operations that would become more commonplace in the twentieth
century. After the First World War, the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what
would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid
another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately
disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to
encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the
League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping
operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of
peacekeeping operations by the American people. The League of Nations was established as a means
to ensure international peace and security through collective consultation and action. The early
peacekeeping operations largely depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to
be followed in

Analysis Of Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee Essay
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a non fiction book written by Dee Brown on the removal and
extinction of the native peoples that called America their home. The title was created by utilizing a
line from Stephen Vincent Benét s poem American Names . Furthermore, the book demonstrates the
deteriorating relations between the natives and whites over time through the descriptions of atrocities
imposed upon each Native American tribe by the white settlers. The number of these atrocities greatly
outnumbers the few attempts at peace made by the aforementioned settlers. Brown opens his book by
presenting attitudes of the previous European settlers towards the people of the New World. It is
apparent from these early encounters and their outcomes that white settlers primarily desired to
exterminate Native Americans and claim their land. The proceeding chapters describe the experiences
of the Western Indians by tribe, event, and leader. Beginning with the Navajos of the Southwest, led
by Manuelito, Brown describes how Manuelito, like the many later chiefs, attempted to accept the
presence of the white settler s on their native land. When terms between the Navajos and Americans
were violated however, the Navajos retaliated, resulting in a war in 1861 that caused acts of cruelty on
both sides. Next, Brown looked to the Santee Sioux led by chief Little Crow. While attempting to
adopt the white man s lifestyle, Little crow became aggravated and soon acted on this aggravation,

Symptoms And Treatment Of Opioid Therapy
Introduction
In the United States alone it has been estimated that nearly 50 million people suffer from chronic pain.
However, chronic pain continues to be undermanaged with as many as 41% of patients reporting
uncontrolled pain 1. Poor pain management outcomes are due in large part to a lack of a
pharmacological intervention that is both efficacious for moderate to severe chronic pain and widely
tolerable. Currently, the most efficacious treatment for moderate to severe chronic pain is the use of
opioid agonists. Despite the efficacy of opioid therapy, in one survey 68% of physicians cited
concerns about adverse events as a barrier to prescription of opioids for the maintenance of chronic
pain1. Systemically delivered opioid agonists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brief review will focus on one such drug, tapentadol, and how a unique mechanism of action may
provide similar analgesia to classical opioids with a more tolerable adverse event profile.
Tapentadol: a novel therapeutic with a unique mechanism of action
Tapentadol has a unique dual mechanism of action; acting not only as an agonist at Ό opioid receptors
but additionally acting to inhibit norepinephrine reuptake1. Previous studies using preclinical models
have shown that the addition of norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can supplement the analgesic
potential of morphine2. Consistently, preclinical studies of tapentadol have shown analgesic efficacy
that is comparable to morphine with a 50 fold decrease in binding affinity to Ό opioid receptors1. The
ability of tapentadol to produce analgesia similar to that seen with classical opioids with considerably
lower binding affinity for ” opioid receptors at off target sites suggests that tapentadol treatment could
provide effective pain management while limiting adverse events.
Clinical efficacy of tapentadol for chronic pain management
The etiology of chronic pain is complex and may be due to a number of different factors. Current
therapeutics often fail to produce adequate analgesia for moderate to severe pain

Name three examples of how Hitchcock s shower sequence in the film Psycho is similar to Eisenstein
s Odessa Steps Sequence in Battleship Potemkin . Explain and cite examples.
The first similarity is between the shower scene in Psycho and Odessa step in Battleship Potemkin is
the use of montage. In the Odessa step scenes, Sergei employs montage when he juxtaposes the
images of the soldiers with those of the peasants as they are walking down the stairs. In the shower
sequence, the usage of montage is depicted with the combination of subsequent shots in a short period
to make the scene appear longer, controlled, subjective, and violent.

Essay on A Clockwork Orange
I think that A Clockwork Orange is a book worth reading because it is relatable, makes you think, and
is interesting. The author, Anthony Burgess, was born February 25, 1917. At the young age of two his
mother passed away. He was brought up by his aunt and later his stepmother. Even with such an
unstable childhood Burgess continued on to enroll in college and major in English. He had a passion
for music, which he expressed in the main character of A Clockwork Orange. Burgess wrote several
accomplished symphonies in his day, as well as over fifty books. He was diagnoses with a brain tumor
at about age 40 but well outlived his doctor s expectations continuing his artistic output until his death
from lung cancer at age 76. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He fails to complete the job, wakes up in a hospital, and finds the mental barriers gone and a pity
dream job is handed to him to compensate for the emotional damage.
A Clockwork Orange had a loose theme of the necessity of not only good, but also evil in human
nature. Alex may have been selfish and deviant but his character and the characters like him did seem
to have a strong grasp on the concept that life was for living. Without the ability of choice to commit
evil acts which was an impulse inside of him, his ability to act human was affected. The freedom of
making these choices seems to be what makes us human. Hence without this freedom he is driven to
attempt suicide.
The major theme of the novel was a battle of the greater importance of a safe stable society or greater
importance of free will. The main character had been conditioned to feel ill at the thought of bad acts,
he had not however been conditioned to not wish to commit these acts. After viewing the presentation
of the quot;successful quot; conversion from evil to quot;good, where rather than fight Alex licked the
man s shoe, the prison Chaplin stated, quot;Self interest, the fear of physical pain drove him to do that
grotesque act of self abasement. Its insincerity was clearly to be seen. He ceases to be a wrongdoer. He
ceases also to be a creature capable of moral choice. So, is it better to be morally right without free

The War Of A National Highway System
The term New Frontier was used by liberal, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in his
acceptance speech. Kennedy entered office with the goal to get rid of Americas poverty, and to raise
America s eyes to the stars through the space program. During the New Frontier, unemployment
benefits were expanded, aid was provided to cities to improve housing and transportation, funds were
allocated to continue the construction of a national highway system started under Eisenhower, a water
pollution control act was passed to protect the country s rivers and streams, and an agricultural act to
raise farmers incomes was made law. The bay of pigs invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba.
Brigade 2506, the group that attempted to invade cuba, was made up of Cubans who fled the country
after Castro s takeover, was trained and funded by the CIA. The CIA Castro gone because he was a
communist, and at the time everyone was afraid of communists. This attack lasted three days before
Brigade 2506 was defeated. The Cuban missile crisis, also known as the October crisis, was a
confrontation between the U.S and Soviet Union and was the closest the Cold War came to being an
actual war. In response to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Castro reached out to the Soviet Union and
asked for nuclear missiles to scare away any more countries thinking about attacking Cuba. After a
long period of tense negotiations, an agreement was reached between President John F.

Comparing Beggar Woman by William King and To His Coy...
Comparing Beggar Woman by William King and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell Beggar
Woman (William King) and To His Coy Mistress (Andrew Marvell) are two poems written in the 17th
century when society was very different to how it is today: women had no status, rights, or
independence. All aspects of society were male dominated, they ruled, and so all laws and acts were in
the favour of males. The poems are great examples of how society was when they were written, they
also mirror the roles each gender played in the various aspect of life, the males active and controlling,
the women passive, and they had to be compliant. At the beginning of this poem, there is a description
of a gentleman out hunting, which is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wearing the baby. I do not believe it crosses the mind of the gentleman to offer the woman some help
with her burden, even though it is slowing him from getting what he wants, he will wait, for principal:
he must not be seen to assist, or sympathise with the lower classes in anyway, even when not in
public. It probably also makes him feel big, and he thinks, makes her feel as if he s in control, a show
of supposed power. Conversation which then follows is suggestive of the woman s profession. Sitting

because she has neither the income nor the lifestyle to bring up the child in any kind of security. The
Beggar Woman tricks the man into taking the baby by making every excuse so as to force him to take
the baby, if he wants sex; however she does this not particularly skillfully but the man is under the
illusion he is acting of his own free will. Out of desperation, he says Were the child tied to me, d ye

American Hegemony And The Failure Of Nato s Liberal...

American Hegemony and the Failure of NATO s Liberal Institutionalism Liberal institutionalism
provides policymakers with a vision of an idyllic world that is useful for communicating, with heavy
rhetorical flavor, lofty promises to both a domestic and international audience. Theoretically and
empirically, however, the theory fails to stand up against the necessary scrutiny. First, liberal
institutionalism has failed to present itself as a successful challenge to realism, which remains a more
compelling paradigm in the study of international relations. Two of the major faults of this theory
involve its refusal to recognize the basic balance of power interests at play as well as its lack of focus
on explaining how international institutions can prevent the domination of one power. The North
Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) provides a useful lens for examining the issues with
institutionalism, as it demonstrates that international institutions are, in fact, a reflection of realist
tenets. More specifically, the United States determination to maintain its European hegemony through
NATO offers several compelling reasons to criticize institutionalist theory. The country s roles in
NATO in the 1990s revealed the extent to which liberalism has failed as a major paradigm of
international relations. While international institutions at times may seem to foster cooperation among
states, NATO

Joan of Arc, nicknamed The Maid of Orléans , is viewed as a courageous woman of France for her
part amid the Lancastrian period of the Hundred Years War, and was consecrated as a Roman Catholic
Saint. While Joan of Arc is a major medieval religious figure she was clearly a huge advocate of
violent bloodshed and she used religion to justify it. When Joan made her case to help France win the
Hundred s years war she claimed that she was sent by God to assist England in the war, The King
should not turn away from, or reject, the Pucelle, who says she has been sent by God (The Life of Joan
Arc, 75). It is clear that Joan of Arc believes that England s war with France was part of God s will
and that it was her duty to help assist her country in war. After convincing King Charles to help him in
the Hundreds year war he sends her to the siege of Orleans as part of a relief mission. Joan of Arc s
participation in the war boosted French moral leading to victory. Eventually Joan of Arc is captured
and put on trial. While on trial Joan once again claims that she had visions of saints telling her to assist
in the war, Item, this women says and confesses that she has paid reverence to these voices and spirits
that she calls, Michael, Gabriel, Katherine and Margaret ( The Rouen Trial, 211). Joan is found guilty
of heresy and burned at the stake. Joan of Arc was war hero and martyr and clearly a warfare apologist

He felt that there was a need to change the day to day operation of the US government from a
corruptive agency spiraling into a web of bureaucratic mess to a more productive governing system
supported by the an administrative base that will be able to enforce public interest and policy. This
scholar and later President wrote that there should be a science of administration which shall seek to
straighten the paths of government, to make its business less unbusinesslike ; to strengthen and purify
its organization, and to crown its duties with dutifulness (Stillman page 8). Apparently, Woodrow
Wilson favored the private sector s interest in businesslike operations and its efficiency as a way to run
the government and its agency. From his 1887 essay, he favored the idea of concentrating power in a
single authority atop a highly integrated centralized administrative structure (Denhardt page 2).
Principles behind Public Administration
Woodrow Wilson along with scholar Leonard D. White and others believed that this field would
evolve and be interwoven within the fabric of American government, public agencies/programs,
associations, and nonprofit organizations. Public administration is not concerned with politics or any

Why Do Athletes Get Paid Too Much
Too Much Stephen Curry is paid about 11.37 million dollars a year. Are your parents paid that much
money for doing their job? Probably not. So, why are athletes like Stephen Curry making millions of
dollars a year for playing a sport? Athletes are paid way too high of a salary and it is unfair. The
American population seems to value entertainment more than the people who provide, teach, and
protect us. Is that really what we want America s message to be? In general, most athletes are drafted
into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature adults. These athletes are
paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, and this is a problem because, as young people,
spending money is a constant urge. Not all athletes are responsible, and being paid so much could
result in spending money on things that are harmful and dangerous, like alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs.

How Did Greek Culture Influence Western Civilization
Greek society and culture has influenced Western Civilization in architecture. For example, churches
courthouses and even the white house. Many people believe that they are used for a sign of power. In
the current era technology and convenience is harder to believe that a civilization in the greek era was
able to thrive from 1000 b.c. to 323 b.c. Fifth century playwrights Aristophanes and Sophocles
produced comedies and tragedies, respectively. During the early days of theater, masks were used to
represent a variety of emotions and to disguise male actors playing female roles. Only 44 plays from
the ancient Greeks remain today, serving as the foundation of Western theater. Doric is a minimalistic

of segment with or without a base and an entablature (what the section upholds: the architrave, frieze,

The Ionic request, with causes in mid sixth century BCE Asia Minor, included a base and volute, or

Some of the other individual sections of the departmental network use different standards such as
1000Base F. The two networks are connected by a network bridge. The network bridge is used to
inexpensively and easily connect local area network segments (Microsoft, 2010). The reason a
network bridge is inexpensive is that there is no configuration required and you don t have to purchase
additional hardware such as routers and other bridges. The hospital s administrative network consists
of Apple iMACS and thin computers that use 1000Base T with CAT 6 cables. All work stations
belonging to Executive Management has Apple iMAC computers with 24 monitors, 2.4 GHz speed, 2

The Great Depression
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, is a famous quote once said during the Great Depression
by Franklin D. Roosevelt. After one world war, great financial fallout, and another world war to
follow, the twentieth century was already shaping out to be a handful. When the Great Depression was
coming to an end and the economy was trying to turn around, jobs started opening up and a new wave
of immigrants came into New York, the Puerto Ricans. For some the American dream was to come to
America and start a new life, but for others already here, it was about making it big in show business.
West Side Story , a twentieth century musical, was greatly influenced by the immigration during that
time.
Before West Side Story was written, there were some major events that occurred. For instance, in
1914 America entered WWI. Then in 1920, women were given the right to vote and women s suffrage
was a big focus of the twenties (Unstend 6). Soon after in October of 1929, the Great Depression
followed, causing massive economic downfall to the United States. Families during that time were
very poor, but millions still went to watch films at local theaters (Unstend 12). One technological
advance was the first television which began in 1936 (Unstend 30). After the Great Depression hit,
WWII came shortly after and America entered the war on December 7, 1941 after Japan attacked Pearl
Harbor (Unstend 18). In 1945, the U.S. possessed the atomic bomb helping to protect the U.S

Summary Of Why I Travel By Alain De Botton
The short story by Alain de Botton, from 2002, takes place on the outskirts of Paris.
Firstly we are being presented to an elder French Duc, des Esseintes, who is our main and only
character. Des Esseintes lives by himself in a villa, and prefers to be alone rather than among others.
He rarely moves outside in public. Not since he once, in his younger days, went to a nearby village
which only made him detest people even more. Since then he has always been at his home. Until one
morning.
One day while reading a book by Dickens, the duc felt an intense desire to travel to London. He was
inspired by the book because it showed visions of the English life, which he wished to see and
experience.

you can travel as weel at home.
In comparison to Why I travel On Anticipation is very differet and almost an opposition, because the
main charaters have different views on travelling.

The latter is the oldest Mc Donald s restaurant still in operation. In 1954, an entrepreneur and

Building Organizational Capacity For Change
Introduction Organization capacity for change as discussed in William Judge s book, Building
Organizational Capacity for Change, includes eight dimensions trustworthy leaders, trusting followers,
capable champions, involved middle management, systems thinking, communication system,
accountable culture, and innovative culture (Judge, 2011). Recognizing the need for change and
initiating change are two different elements, knowing that a change needs to happen but not having the
organizational capacity to make the change will stall any initiative in its tracks. A leader influences
whether or not an organization has the capacity for change, and as discussed by Judge, (2011) one of
the most important influences is being a trustworthy leader. A leader also needs to recognize when a
change is needed and be ready to initiate that change.
Monitoring and Responding to the Drivers of Change Drivers of change include, to name a few,
technology trends, state of the economy, globalization, and customer expectations. These drivers are
going to look and feel different across industries and will be dependent on other drivers such as
competition and industry trends. Monitoring for these changes include understanding the current
technology, attending conferences that provide insight to the newest or upcoming technology
advancements in your industry. This may also be accomplished through professional associations and
contacts. Current state of the economy will

The Movement Towards Cloud Computing
The world, as a whole, is changing. It is true that some sections of the world are remaining primitive
in terms of industrialization, but the general population is a progressive one. There are incredible
advancements being made in the industries of transportation, communications, aerospace and defense,
as well as almost every industry related to the culture of society. As these advancements progress and
companies innovate, the demand for different products changes. For example, the demand for DVDs
today is no where near what it once was. In today s society, there is a huge demand for technology
based products. Due to this increased demand for technology, there has been an impressive amount of
innovation on how technology is both used and sold. The largest of these innovative movements has
been the movement towards cloud computing. In about as basic of a definition there is, The Cloud is

Critics of Systemic theory, as a result, argue that the overall thrust of U.S. policy in Syria and the
Middle East in its entirety, is due primarily to the supremacy of interest groups in American domestic
politics, specifically, the Israel lobby. In IR theory, the primacy of interest groups, is understood in
international relations as Society centered. Society centered explanations focus on domestic interest
groups: a group of people that seeks to influence public policy based on a common interest or concern.
From this lens, U.S. support for Israel, thanks to Israeli interest groups, has been justified by the claim
that both states are threatened by terrorist groups originating in the Arab or Muslim world, like Bashar
al Assad in Syria. Israel is thus seen as a crucial ally in the war on terror because its enemies are
America s enemies. The claim that the Israel lobby diverts U.S foreign policy from the American
national interest by convincing American politicians that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially
identical, does not stand up, as American foreign policy under Donald Trump prioritizes fighting
terrorism in Syria, not the Assad regime, which is an enemy of Israel.

The Importance Of Stakeholders In The Classroom Environment
Bron and Veugelers (2014) elucidate a classroom environment encompasses a vast and diverse student
body that should be reflected in the utilized curriculum which will continually adapt to the ever
changing elements and culture surrounding it. Important to realize, is that there is a very considerable
group of stakeholders responsible for the advocacy of the curriculum map, those who are composed of
neighborhood residents, youth involved in the justice system, unemployed, regulation enforcement
agencies, contractors and developers, employers, ordinary community members, and government
officials (Rabinowitz, 2017). Accordingly, whether stakeholders are directly or indirectly involved
with the students, their input ensures successful outcomes in achievement for those focuses within the
learning arena. Stakeholders Purpose To explain, Hanover Research (2016) affirms the stakeholder s
role in curriculum mapping is vital, due to invested interest of processes and results, as well as the
ability to enhance the review s effectiveness and the many persons who have an expertise through
their individual knowledge and skills. This vested interest is to help ensure that appropriateness is
upheld in the reviews regarding questions, designs, or methodology. Markedly, Bron and Veugelers

A comparison between the Italian and German Opera;...
The Italian opera and the German opera are two different fields that both share characteristics, some of
which are paralleled, and some of which contrast. Specifically, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner
use motifs such as: redemption through love, patriotism, and sacrifice which run throughout both of
their operas. The theme of betrayal also seems to be echoed throughout both operas; yet they are each
used to project a different response. The significance of this comparison demonstrates that Verdi and
Wagner may allude to the same references, such as Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Byron, but the
operas The Flying Dutchman (German opera) and that of Nabucco (Italian opera) are completely
different in context, and musical style; perhaps even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Idol of Baal shatters into pieces. Nabucco tells the Jews they are free. Abigaille enters. She
poisoned herself. She asks for forgiveness of Fenena, says she s sorry and dies. Zaccaria (the priest)
hails Nabucco as the servant of God and the King of Kings. After Nabucco, Verdi based his operas on
more standard romantic sources by Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Lord Byron.
Orchestrally, it is scored for strings, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, two flutes, one piccolo, two oboes,
one English horn, two clarinets, two bassoons, four French horns, two trumpets, three trombones, two
harps, and one cimbasso. Musically, this opera is very directly vigorous. It sticks to the widely used
concepts of arias, duets, finales, and choruses. His fine music often excused the glaring faults in
character and plot lines.
Contextually, there are themes of love, betrayal, and patriotism represented. We see love through Kind
Nabucco s love for his daughter Fenena, and his constant want to help and protect her. It is almost
through this love that he is redeemed, and made whole again. We also see the love between Ismaele

Comparison Of Adam And Eve In The Book Of Mormon
Although the Book of Mormon seems to have some similarities in common with the Bible, there are
parts from these two texts that are contradicting to each other. For instance, one of the obvious
differences is the Fall of Adam and Eve, a scene where God punishes them for eating the forbitten
fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In Chapter Three of Genesis from the Bible, the
setting in which Adam and Even lived called the Garden of Eden is described as peaceful and utopic
place until they violated God s rules and unleashed the original sin as well as immortality in the all
humanity. However, their action is rather considered necessary and taken more positively in the Book
of Mormon since it is believed that their disobedience led to females ability to reproduce offspring and
it also brought joy to the world despite the other risks, according to Chapter Two of II Nephi. Unlike
the story in the Bible, the Graden of Eden is portrayed as a place where ... [all things] must have

  • 2. How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have their roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Prussia in 1849 1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the intent of maintaining law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was worked out. This set the precedent for peacekeeping operations that would become more commonplace in the twentieth century. After the First World War, the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the American people. The League of Nations was established as a means to ensure international peace and security through collective consultation and action. The early peacekeeping operations largely depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to be followed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Analysis Of Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee Essay Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a non fiction book written by Dee Brown on the removal and extinction of the native peoples that called America their home. The title was created by utilizing a line from Stephen Vincent BenĂ©t s poem American Names . Furthermore, the book demonstrates the deteriorating relations between the natives and whites over time through the descriptions of atrocities imposed upon each Native American tribe by the white settlers. The number of these atrocities greatly outnumbers the few attempts at peace made by the aforementioned settlers. Brown opens his book by presenting attitudes of the previous European settlers towards the people of the New World. It is apparent from these early encounters and their outcomes that white settlers primarily desired to exterminate Native Americans and claim their land. The proceeding chapters describe the experiences of the Western Indians by tribe, event, and leader. Beginning with the Navajos of the Southwest, led by Manuelito, Brown describes how Manuelito, like the many later chiefs, attempted to accept the presence of the white settler s on their native land. When terms between the Navajos and Americans were violated however, the Navajos retaliated, resulting in a war in 1861 that caused acts of cruelty on both sides. Next, Brown looked to the Santee Sioux led by chief Little Crow. While attempting to adopt the white man s lifestyle, Little crow became aggravated and soon acted on this aggravation, which ... • 5. Symptoms And Treatment Of Opioid Therapy Introduction In the United States alone it has been estimated that nearly 50 million people suffer from chronic pain. However, chronic pain continues to be undermanaged with as many as 41% of patients reporting uncontrolled pain 1. Poor pain management outcomes are due in large part to a lack of a pharmacological intervention that is both efficacious for moderate to severe chronic pain and widely tolerable. Currently, the most efficacious treatment for moderate to severe chronic pain is the use of opioid agonists. Despite the efficacy of opioid therapy, in one survey 68% of physicians cited concerns about adverse events as a barrier to prescription of opioids for the maintenance of chronic pain1. Systemically delivered opioid agonists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This brief review will focus on one such drug, tapentadol, and how a unique mechanism of action may provide similar analgesia to classical opioids with a more tolerable adverse event profile. Tapentadol: a novel therapeutic with a unique mechanism of action Tapentadol has a unique dual mechanism of action; acting not only as an agonist at ÎŒ opioid receptors but additionally acting to inhibit norepinephrine reuptake1. Previous studies using preclinical models have shown that the addition of norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can supplement the analgesic potential of morphine2. Consistently, preclinical studies of tapentadol have shown analgesic efficacy that is comparable to morphine with a 50 fold decrease in binding affinity to ÎŒ opioid receptors1. The ability of tapentadol to produce analgesia similar to that seen with classical opioids with considerably lower binding affinity for ” opioid receptors at off target sites suggests that tapentadol treatment could provide effective pain management while limiting adverse events. Clinical efficacy of tapentadol for chronic pain management The etiology of chronic pain is complex and may be due to a number of different factors. Explain and cite examples. The first similarity is between the shower scene in Psycho and Odessa step in Battleship Potemkin is the use of montage. In the Odessa step scenes, Sergei employs montage when he juxtaposes the images of the soldiers with those of the peasants as they are walking down the stairs. He fails to complete the job, wakes up in a hospital, and finds the mental barriers gone and a pity dream job is handed to him to compensate for the emotional damage. A Clockwork Orange had a loose theme of the necessity of not only good, but also evil in human nature. Alex may have been selfish and deviant but his character and the characters like him did seem to have a strong grasp on the concept that life was for living. Without the ability of choice to commit evil acts which was an impulse inside of him, his ability to act human was affected. The freedom of making these choices seems to be what makes us human. Hence without this freedom he is driven to attempt suicide. The major theme of the novel was a battle of the greater importance of a safe stable society or greater importance of free will. The main character had been conditioned to feel ill at the thought of bad acts, he had not however been conditioned to not wish to commit these acts. After viewing the presentation of the quot;successful quot; conversion from evil to quot;good, where rather than fight Alex licked the man s shoe, the prison Chaplin stated, quot;Self interest, the fear of physical pain drove him to do that grotesque act of self abasement. Comparing Beggar Woman by William King and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell Beggar Woman (William King) and To His Coy Mistress (Andrew Marvell) are two poems written in the 17th century when society was very different to how it is today: women had no status, rights, or independence. All aspects of society were male dominated, they ruled, and so all laws and acts were in the favour of males. The poems are great examples of how society was when they were written, they also mirror the roles each gender played in the various aspect of life, the males active and controlling, the women passive, and they had to be compliant. Shoaf Professor Dominic Tierney POLS 004: International Politics 09 October 2014 American Hegemony and the Failure of NATO s Liberal Institutionalism Liberal institutionalism provides policymakers with a vision of an idyllic world that is useful for communicating, with heavy rhetorical flavor, lofty promises to both a domestic and international audience. Theoretically and empirically, however, the theory fails to stand up against the necessary scrutiny. First, liberal institutionalism has failed to present itself as a successful challenge to realism, which remains a more compelling paradigm in the study of international relations. Two of the major faults of this theory involve its refusal to recognize the basic balance of power interests at play as well as its lack of focus on explaining how international institutions can prevent the domination of one power. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) provides a useful lens for examining the issues with institutionalism, as it demonstrates that international institutions are, in fact, a reflection of realist tenets. More specifically, the United States determination to maintain its European hegemony through NATO offers several compelling reasons to criticize institutionalist theory. The country s roles in NATO in the 1990s revealed the extent to which liberalism has failed as a major paradigm of international relations. While international institutions at times may seem to foster cooperation among states, NATO ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In general, most athletes are drafted into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature adults. After one world war, great financial fallout, and another world war to follow, the twentieth century was already shaping out to be a handful. When the Great Depression was coming to an end and the economy was trying to turn around, jobs started opening up and a new wave of immigrants came into New York, the Puerto Ricans. Soon after in October of 1929, the Great Depression followed, causing massive economic downfall to the United States. Families during that time were very poor, but millions still went to watch films at local theaters (Unstend 12). One technological advance was the first television which began in 1936 (Unstend 30). Critics of Systemic theory, as a result, argue that the overall thrust of U.S. policy in Syria and the Middle East in its entirety, is due primarily to the supremacy of interest groups in American domestic politics, specifically, the Israel lobby. In IR theory, the primacy of interest groups, is understood in international relations as Society centered. Society centered explanations focus on domestic interest groups: a group of people that seeks to influence public policy based on a common interest or concern. From this lens, U.S. support for Israel, thanks to Israeli interest groups, has been justified by the claim that both states are threatened by terrorist groups originating in the Arab or Muslim world, like Bashar al Assad in Syria. Israel is thus seen as a crucial ally in the war on terror because its enemies are America s enemies. The claim that the Israel lobby diverts U.S foreign policy from the American national interest by convincing American politicians that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially identical, does not stand up, as American foreign policy under Donald Trump prioritizes fighting terrorism in Syria, not the Assad regime, which is an enemy of Israel.
