Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh
Description
The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp
contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly
portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth
seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and
eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is
portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of
his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression.
Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard.
The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard
catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work
of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally,
the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting.
However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached
expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of
home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home.

The Nature of Online Communities Essay
The Nature of Online Communities
What brings people together on the internet? Is it the desire to find a friend and a community or is it
the other extreme of finding someone to argue with and release all the anger that has built up inside?
Do people not like who they are in real life and find the internet as a place to have a new identity, the
person that they have always wanted to be? Or, is it what Rheingold states in his article The Virtual
Community, virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated as thinkers and
transmitters of ideas and feeling beings, not carnal vessels with a certain appearance and way of
walking and talking (95)? Maybe it is one of these things or a combination of many ... Show more

The members of this community have the opportunity to meet and chat, if they so desire, through
MSN instant messenger.
After searching through the Who s Who board and the member profiles, I discovered that a majority of
the members are adults, mostly in their thirties or forties. A majority of the members are females, but
there are a few male chocolate and coffee lovers sprinkled throughout the bunch. Ironically though,
these adults have filled the general post board full of games to play. Rarely are there any personal
stories or serious posts on the board. Most of them consist of let s post cool quotes that we ve found,
post pictures of cute animals (Animal GIFs 10 6 02), or the most interesting one, type a message in
wingdings font and decipher that and write a new message in response in wingdings (The Wingdings
Game 10 6 02). (Wingdings is the font that is purely characters and not real letters.) Out of
approximately fifty members, only ten people post daily on this site and communicate with each other
on a regular basis. I did observe one serious post when one of the women had a personal crisis and
posted on her experiences. She instantly received a tremendous amount of support from a majority of
the members. Her virtual community was there to offer encouragement and love in her times of trials.
This community is full of love, laughter, and good times. Their language is extremely

Trade Balance in Foreign Countries
Trade balance: Trade surplus is the difference between exports and imports. Positive balance occurs
when exports exceed imports, and the deficit of it occurs when imports exceed exports (the minus sign
is used to show that). In April February 2013/14 FY. , India s trade with foreign countries has
increased in comparison with the same period in 2011/12 FY. by 1.9 % and amounted to 714.1 billion
U.S. dollars, while exports declined by 4.0 % (to 266.0 billion U.S. dollars), in the same time imports
increased by 0.3 % ( up to 448 , U.S. $ 1 billion ). In general, over the last five years of India s foreign
trade has increased almost twice. Reduce of exports of the country to the 2012/13 FY. was associated
with the second wave of the financial crisis in the Eurozone and the unfavourable world market
conditions on its core products . In April February of 2013/14 FY. India s trade deficit increased by 9.2
% and reached a record it s peak of 182.1 billion dollars. Over the past 12 months the deficit of
balance of payments reached it s peak. This caused a collapse of the Indian rupee in the summer of
2013. Government intervention: A wide range of measures is in place to stabilize economy and reduce
the gap between rich and poor. These measures are: Fiscal measures: To reduce the fiscal and revenue
deficit the government of India has a strong control over its own expenditure. In 1984, the government

Procrastination Research Paper
The procrastinator. The prioritizer. The slacker. Which type of studier are you? I believe that I am all
three. Procrastination is basically waiting until the last minute to do something. Prioritizing is to
arrange or deal with things in the order of importance. Last but not least, slacking is lacking in
diligence, care, or concern. Out of all three words, prioritizing sounds the best. Many kids at school
like to procrastinate, mostly with tests, I am one of them. This is why we need to form more study
habits that will help us excel as we enter higher grade levels. Have you ever thought of why you

The number twenty four says to study all day, every day. Lastly, seven means to study on all the seven
days of the week. Students test scores have augmented, when doing this process. You never know,
studying ten minutes a day may allow your test score to go from a sixty to a ninety. Study habits not
only involve you studying by yourself, but you should ask your classmates or teachers for help. If you
do not discern the lesson that was taught, pull your teacher off to the side and respectfully ask them
for help. Hang around people that do not know the same thing as you, therefore you can help each
other out. Helping friends study is always a benign act. Prioritizing is always the best route to go. If
you prioritize, you most likely will be less stressed when studying for a test. As we enter high school,
there are going to be multiple assignments and tests on the same day, but if you prioritize you can
execute your task very well. To exemplify for you, imagine next week we will have three tests on
different days. Also, that your teacher has told you two weeks before the test. Most of us would
probably wait until the last minute to study. After getting the results, you have only passed one test.
Wouldn t it have been better for you to prioritize, so you could have a better outcome? As my saying
goes, keep your eyes on the prize and

Assess the reasons why Chartism failed
Chartism was the largest protest movement by working class people that Britain has ever seen,

The Battle Of Algiers ( A Reenactment Of Algeria s Fight...
An imperative aspect of art is that it is open to interpretation and analysis. If the piece of art is
significant, it will be thought or emotion provoking and uncensored. It is not the role of art take
cautious steps in an attempt to leave its audience unoffended, but rather to embrace diversity of
thought and creativity to portray untainted ideas. Filmmaking being a form of art follows the same
guidelines and thus shapes society through its objectionable and often jarring subject matter. The
Battle of Algiers (a reenactment of Algeria s fight for independence from France from 1954 to 1957)

Without the brutal violence in American History X we would not be able to take an emotional journey
of discovering a lost man as he regains his purpose after killing two people under the influence of a
neo Nazi gang. The hatred towards everyone as experienced in Taxi Driver is essential to
understanding the raging emotions flowing through Travis s mind as he goes on a killing spree. On the
opposite end of the spectrum, without the provocative homosexual romance in Brokeback Mountain,
the passionate strain of keeping a forbidden love covert would not be felt. Since homosexuality had
not been greatly explored in film this way before, Brokeback Mountain generated a confusion of
empathy for a love that society would not allow, as well as for those that were betrayed by it. The
audience is at war for and against both sides (the lovers and those that do not want the lovers together)
in some aspect throughout the movie and the controversy carried into real life. According to the Los
Angeles Times, people that identified with the cowboy role portrayed by the two main characters were
deeply offended by the homosexual association, which they believed tarnished their cowboy image.
The article also says the film s amorous relationship angered homophobic people across the nation,
but it also, contrarily, made others more empathetic towards members of the gay community s feelings
and desires (Brady). The socially

The Pepsi Of Coca Cola
History Coca Cola was founded in 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton. After creating flavored syrup, he
took it to his neighborhood pharmacy where it got mixed with carbonated water. Frank M. Robinson,
Dr. Pemberton s partner and bookkeeper, is credited with naming the beverage Coca Cola. After a
couple years, Dr. Pemberton began selling portions of his business. The majority was sold to Asa G.
Candler who decided to expand the product to soda fountains outside of Atlanta, Georgia. From here,
he noticed there was a growing demand for Coca Cola which brought about the aspiration to make
Coca Cola portable. Joseph Biedenharn became the first person to put Coke in a bottle and sell it.

Dramatic Irony In Shrek
Salvador Dali once stated to, Have no fear of perfection you ll never reach it. Although a widespread
concept, unattainable perfection seems unrealistic. For instance, society today inscribes the notion of
perfection into its members, from the first days as a newborn to the last days of life. So, is it healthy to
strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for society to distribute support for this
unrealistic perfection? No. Therefore, to balance the unrealistic goals of perfection set forth through
certain branches of society, society has those individuals who not only mock, but ridicule, through
various forms of media, these unrealistic expectations of perfection. One example of such mockery
and ridicule includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the beginning of the film, a significant scene in which Princess Fiona gets rescued by
Shrek, an ogre who masks his appearance with a helmet and disguise, is displayed. Throughout this
scene dramatic irony is evident because before Fiona knew Shrek s true identity and outward
appearance, she, guided by her misconceptions, believed that her disguised rescuer was a typical
Prince Charming. However, the audience was acutely aware that this was not the case. Similar to
aspects of our modern society, all her life, Fiona has grown up believing in the generic happily ever
after with the perfect Prince Charming and had never dared to think that other alternatives exist.
Therefore, through developing dramatic irony and using this specific technique the satire effectively
attains its goal when Fiona discovers the true identity of her Prince Charming. Although Shrek had an
unrealistic and improbable situation, the audience clearly understands the criticism towards society s
great desire at perfection based off of fairy tales. Overall, the film Shrek, provides an outstanding
example of contemporary satire that is not only indirect and horatian but also well known to society.
Through what appears a children s film, Dreamworks has effectively tackled one of society s pressing
matters when addressing society s unrealistic expectations of perfection in accordance to fairy

Erikson s Psychosocial Stages of Personality
Erikson s Psychosocial Stages of Personality Development Trust vs. Mistrust Trust versus mistrust is
Erikson s first stage in his theory psychosocial development. It is also believed to be the most
important. In this stage, infants learn whether or not they can trust the people around them, especially
those they re closest to. It occurs during the first year of life when the infant is completely dependent
on its mother/caregiver. Because the infant is utterly helpless during this time, the personality is
affected by the degree of love, care and dependability of the parent. If the parent attends to the child s
needs accordingly, is present and responsive, it is rational to believe that he or she will grow up

I d say I m doing pretty well now in adult land making my own decisions, striving towards new goals
and even making more appropriate, adult sized deserts. Industriousness vs. Inferiority Industriousness
versus inferiority is Erikson s fourth stage in his theory of psychosocial development. In involves
every moment between the ages of six and eleven. It s during this time in age the child begins
developing good school habits and social skills and really begins taking pride in his or her
accomplishments. Studying becomes important as well as true bonding. Choices now involve some
reasoning and they ll discover their capabilities when completing more complex tasks. They can now
build things, learn things and concentrate on doing so. All of these things result in a sense of
industriousness and diligence. How teachers and parents respond to the child s efforts will really affect
how they view themselves in the future. If they are ridiculed, made fun of, or discouraged, it can quite
easily lead to feelings of inferiority and disable their drive to become successful. When I was growing
up, I really enjoyed writing small stories and reading them to my mother and brother before bed. My
mother was fully engaged in my absurd, dramatic stories and it really made me feel good about
myself. Now here I am pursuing my dream to become a writer. I think it certainly gave me the push I

Sacrifice In Ancient Greece
Sacrifice is a significant theme to the Background to mythology as well as Greek societies. Sacrifice is
an approach in giving up something of special value. This was essential to Greek societies because
sacrifice was essential to the polytheistic religion in which they would sacrifice many valuable items
to them in order to appease the gods. To successfully appease the gods, Greeks would give up
important values such as animals, which were considered very precious and valued items. Sacrifice
plays a significant role on Ancient Greek societies, this helps prove to the gods the respect the Greeks
have over their authorities. In Greek society sacrifice was very important in order to please the gods.
The most basic sacrifice was the sacrifice of an animal especially a pig or goat. Once the animal was
given to the gods the sacrificial lamb would become a feast for the gods. The animal would be cooked
upon an open flame on the altar of the gods. To the gods went the best pieces with fat and spices. In

Character Analysis of Bartleby, the Scrivener
In Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener , a story of the strangest law copyist the narrator, a
lawyer, has ever employed is told. The narrator experiences conflict with Bartleby when he prefers not
to examine some law papers. Once Bartleby prefers not to once, he continues to repeat the statement
on all request asked of him. This statement sends Bartleby into a state of tranquility, staying isolated in
the cubical and refusing all assistance by any means. This state results in him going to jail, and
eventually dying. This passive resistance Bartleby exhibits traps him physically and psychologically
by surrounding him with walls the narrator symbolically describes numerous times. The idea of
transcendentalism arises from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the idea from transcendentalism that there is no form of superior intelligence is the reason as to
why Bartleby prefers not to (6) in all forms of requests. This is the moment in the story where
Bartleby assumes the position of a transcendentalist. This point is where he breaks free of societal
duties and refuses all help from the narrator, denying money and shelter from him. Although critiques
such as Walter E. Anderson argue that Bartleby s isolation shows Christian moral reading is the correct
context to assume, I disagree. There are allusions to biblical texts such as the narrator referring to
himself and Bartleby as sons of Adam (11). But I think Bartleby is isolated to show how he is alone
from everyone, living in a cubical, and being surrounded by walls. Although Christianity gives
feelings of isolation with God, Bartleby is isolated with his spiritual self, saying he would prefer to
make no change at all (21). Bartleby determines his fate by questioning himself and his societal roles.
He does not look to Christ in any form, not believing in a higher intellectual form. Instead he finds
serenity in his civil disobedience.
Another form of symbolism important to Bartleby s isolation is the imagery of walls . The story s
setting is on Wall Street and at the office the men work at look upon a white wall (1) and have an
unobstructed view of a lofty brick wall (2). The walls represent society s blocks on Bartleby and his
progress in society.

Homosociality is the unacknowledged entity that exists between the intestacies of solid masculinity
(Dellamora Masculine Desire, 2). Jean Lipman Blumen defines homosociality as:
Enjoyment and/or preference for the company of the same sex...it does not necessarily involve...an
explicitly erotic sexual interaction between members of the same sex (16). Lipman Blumen s
definition introduces this explicitly erotic sexual interaction to signify homoeroticism. Homoeroticism
is erotic emotions centred on a person of the same sex (Flood, 307). Flood omits any reference to
homosexuality in his term (unlike Lipman Blumen s definition) but implies that homoeroticism may

Altitude Safety Essay
Changes in altitude have a profound effect on the human body. The body attempts to maintain a state
of homeostasis or balance to ensure the optimal operating environment for its complex chemical
systems. Any change from this homeostasis is a change away from the optimal operating environment.
The body attempts to correct this imbalance. One such imbalance is the effect of increasing altitude on
the body s ability to provide adequate oxygen to be utilized in cellular respiration. With an increase in
elevation, a typical occurrence when climbing mountains, the body is forced to respond in various
ways to the changes in external environment. Foremost of these changes is diminished ability to
obtain oxygen from the atmosphere. If the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the base of the pharynx are two openings. One, the esophagus, leads to the digestive system while
the other, the glottis, leads to the lungs. The epiglottis covers the glottis when swallowing so that food
does not enter the lungs. When the epiglottis is not covering the opening to the lungs air may pass
freely into and out of the trachea. The trachea sometimes called the windpipe branches into two
bronchi, which in turn lead to a lung. Once in the lung the bronchi branch many times into smaller
bronchioles, which eventually terminate in small sacs called alveoli. It is in the alveoli that the actual
transfer of oxygen to the blood takes place. The alveoli are shaped like inflated sacs and exchange gas
through a membrane. The passage of oxygen into the blood and carbon dioxide out of the blood is
dependent on three major factors: 1) the partial pressure of the gases, 2) the area of the pulmonary
surface, and 3) the thickness of the membrane (Gerking, 1969). The membranes in the alveoli provide
large surface areas for the free exchange of gasses. The typical thickness of the pulmonary membrane
is less than the thickness of a red blood cell. The pulmonary surface and the thickness of the alveolar
membranes are not directly affected related to altitude and affects gas transfer in the alveoli.
GAS TRANSFER To understand gas transfer it is important to first understand something about the
behavior of gases. Each gas in our atmosphere exerts its

Importance Of The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment is making headlines these days. The Second Amendment states, A well
regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and

amendment was proposed by James Madison, after the constitution was ratified. James Madison
originally proposed the Second Amendment shortly after the Constitution was officially ratified as a
way to provide more power to state militias... (Brooks, The Second Amendment and the Right to Bear
Arms) The latest court case on the Second Amendment is the Peruta v. California case . But that was

An interesting and complex modern departure from a societel norm is acting as the downfall of what is
referred to as the nuclear family. The nuclear family of a husband and wife with dependant children,

quite some time. The late 20th century appeared to experience a decline in married couples. With
multifaceted forces at play, that nuclear family appears to have been destabilized by three important

jobs around large urban centers in the 1970s and 1980s resulted in a lowering of marriage rates among
lower income and african american women; where men without steady employment or income
potential found themselves shut out of the marriage market . (Cohen, 271). Obviously, these issues led

The Life of a College Football Player
(1)Most people think college football players just party all year long. Most people think being college
football players is easy and all fun and games but it is not. Playing college football is very challenging
and it takes a lot of hard work. You need to be committed and dedicated 100% that is why some
college football players today give up they were not cut to do all the work. Playing college football
requires training 24/7. You have practice every day long and hard. Even in the off season there is still
a lot of work to be done so basically football is a all year round thing You also have to be able to be
great in the classroom. Some coaches even make a player keep a certain GPA just so the can play on
Saturday. Only about 3 4% of high school players can get the opportunity to play D1 college football
that is why coaches only look for the best that is why you have to be good athletically and good
academically. Some couches wont even give you an offer if you your Grade point Average is not up to

Semiotic Deconstruction Analysis Of Calvin Klein Jeans
Calvin Klein is an American multinational fashion company founded in 1968. Since their inception,
they have always been known as a top end designer brand, branching out to related clothing markets.
Calvin Klein is notorious with creating brands within their chosen product. For example Calvin Klein
Jeans and Calvin Klein Underwear s are brands in themselves. However they have also branched out
into other related markets providing products such fragrances, sportswear, watches and jewellery.
Calvin Klein unlike contemporary top end brand designer have been very controversial in their past
effort to market their brand. For example in 2010, Calvin Klein released an advert in an effort to bring
attention to Calvin Klein Jeans, however it was viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However prior to this it is important to discuss the fact that we are now living in an era of an attention
economy. In today s age, consumers are overwhelmed by the paradox of choice so many choices to
make, and no easy way to distinguish among the offerings (Davenport, Harris 2009). Furthermore,
since consumers are bombarded with advert offering its important to avail of whatever attention a
brand gets. Thus an attention economy is an approach of management that treat human attention as
scare resources and applies an economic theory to make use of that attention; hence the ability of the
brand to channel attention creates great value. A semiotic description is consequently a vital means by
which we might begin to understand how an image captivates our imaginations. The founder of
modern linguistics, Ferdinand de Saussure, argued that at one point in time language would be part of
a comprehensive science of signs, which would study the production of meaning (Culler, 2001). In
other words, the appeal of images comes through the stories or meanings that are being depicted,
which eventually leads to an emotion or experience being felt by people in an attention economy. To
greater understand a semiotic analysis I will now provide an in depth look into my Calvin Klein watch
advert. To display the theory behind my advert I will be exploring the use of denotations, connotations
found in my advert. As well as describing various rhetorical styles

Mediterranean Diet Requirements
More in depth, there are specific diets that people can try and see which one best works for them.
Every human body is different, some bodies require more of a certain nutrient to have a healthy brain.
A diet that everyone can try is the Mediterranean diet. There are a few studies that have shown that the
Mediterranean diet brings positive effects for the brain. This diet require for someone to consume a
large amount of virgin oil, fish, fruits, vegetables, cereals, and legumes. It might sound unreal but this
diet also requires a small drink of alcohol, red wine. Another requirement of the diet is to only eat a

There are hundreds of diseases or mental health problems that attack silently. Many people don t find
out that they are suffering from an illness until it s almost too late. There s no question, technology is
advancing rapidly but there are still many health problems that are incurable. Learning to eat healthier
can lower the risk of suffering many of the existing diseases. Making healthier choices will not only
benefit the person physically, the change will possibly boost their spiritual or emotional life. One has
the choice to choose what is believed to be the best pathway. There are small and easy steps that can
be done to improve one s health. If one drinks alcohol than the first step to a better life is by
eliminating that drink from the daily diet. Nutrition is more important than what every person thinks.
Improper nutrition can cause not only depression but also dementia. The most common dementia is
know as alzheimer s disease. The population tends to relate Alzheimer s disease with the aging of a
person. The truth is that nutrition is the main contributor of this mental health problem not the aging of
a person. At the end, people can drastically improve their mental health, cognitive skills, and daily
behavior with just a better diet. The human brain is the center of control for the whole body. If the
brain is not cared properly than the body and mind will start to malfunction. Something to keep in

charity is successful. They provide the friendly customer service to those who decide to shop at the

world countries, again this has an impressive influence.
Suppliers want steady orders and prompt payment, they also want to feel valued by the company that

Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them and
the profit that they receive. They influence Tesco because if the suppliers go out of business then
Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the previous
supplier.
Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with goods to

The Gangster Film Genre Of The Mafia
The gangster film genre is a subgenre of the crime film, dealing with organized crime and more often
than not, the Mafia. Though gangster films have their root in the silent era, the genre became widely
popular in the 1930 s Hollywood Studio era, which is characterized by the Hollywood Genre System.
Genre films offered economic advantages, including the repeated use of standardized themes,
elements, characters and iconography. Additionally, genre films were easily marketable, as audiences
knew what to expect from each genre. If a viewer enjoyed one film from a particular genre, they were
likely to enjoy any other film falling into that genre. Specific themes and elements can be readily
identified in gangster films. For one, they commonly question the meaning of success and failure in

The Rise Of Prophet Muhammad Essay
To some the Prophet Muhammad was nothing more than a common man who shared what he believed
to be the word of God and his teachings and to others he was the most compassionate being who
would eventually be the savior to all humanity when the time presents itself. During his existence he
generated a movement, influenced the thoughts of many individuals and united large groups of people
under one common belief. He introduced what would be later known as Islam to anyone willingly to
listen. Although met with some opposition and discontent for this form of ideology, it did not prevent
people already belonging to religious groups such as, Judaism and Christianity, from being included in
the movement. The Believer s movement, the name given to the early religion and followers of
Muhammad, continued throughout his lifetime and shortly after his passing. However, once he left
this world his path of succession became so conflated and construed wars would be fought over who
deserved to learned by either birthrate or a people s favorite. The Believers Movement, a name that
was quickly losing its importance, became less about the actual teachings and more about who looked
best leading it. There were separate groups before the death of the Prophet Muhammad s death,
however, these divisions increased and the meaning of his teaching changed drastically. By comparing
two separate group of people during this time period one would better understand how different the

UK and Gibraltar. The result was decided by 33,577,342 eligible voters. 17,410,742 voters voted to

This was a breaking news, and it caused a global attention. Countless information and news were

Minister leads the UK toward a right direction under the new situation. Meanwhile, the global
economy and international currency were affected by the referendum. Global stock markets were
falling down drastically and the British Pound did drop from $1.50 to $1.35, which was the lowest
value since the 1980s. Investors also lost heavily. For example, many financial analysts think that like
Warren Buffett and other successful investors probably lost billions of dollars on average after the
vote. In April 1975, there was a similar referendum held in the UK. At that time, 67.2 percent of voters
approved that the UK ought to stay in the European Union. After forty one years, the result is

Causes Of Failure Of Independence
There are many cause of the failure of war independence 1857. They can be divided in many religious,
economic , and social problems The East India Company was aiming to annex all the states of India
like Avadh, Tanjore, Jhansi, Satara, etc. That s why they introduced systems like Doctrine of Lapse by
which Indian states could be taken over by the Company in case there was no male heir to the throne
of the state. This provoked the rulers like Nana Sahib, the adopted son of Peshwa and Lakshmi Bai,
the Rani of Jhansi. The Company also declared that after the death of the then Mughal emperor,
Bahadur Shah Zafar, his family had to move out of the Red Fort and his successors were also
forbidden to use the title of emperor. All these attempts alienated both Hindu and Muslim Indians who

British could possibly be defence During the War of Independence 1857, there was a complete lack of
unity among the fighting groups though all were fighting against a common enemy, the British
soldiers. There was no coordination between different regions of unrest and no attempts were made to
bring their strengths together. Some local leaders even helped the British in the war e.g. the ruler of
Kashmir sent 2000 troops on the British side. However, there were also some other reasons for the
failure of the war.
The sudden outbreak of 1857 war had no defined goals or planning. Different groups were fighting for
different causes. Most of the Muslims wanted to restore the Mughal ruler, Bahadur Shah Zafar, but
Hindus and Sikhs were not ready to fight for restoring the Muslim Mughal Empire. Many princes
were interested in regaining their own feudal powers. A good number of ordinary people remained
neutral i.e. they did not take part in the

The Pros And Cons Of The Iphone X
The Apple Company has mostly dominated the cell phone industry since their first iPhone in 2007.
Since then, many more iPhones have been created and widely sold throughout the world, including
many new features and looks. Recently, the new iPhone X has dropped, creating a new standard for
phones everywhere and giving cellphone users a tough decision to make. Many debates whether the
new phone is overpriced for its value, however, the iPhone X was priced accordingly because it is
better than previous iPhones and other competitors. Ultimately, the iPhone X is worth its unique price
of $999 because of its superior design and usefulness to the consumer.
The iPhone X greatly attracts customers due to its new, sleek physical appearance, which is an
understandable reason for its price. A key component of the interest in the iPhone X is the larger
screen. It has 82.9% screen to body ratio compared to the iPhone 8 s 65.6% screen to body ratio
(Gordon). This is very helpful to consumers because it uses show watching and book reading apps to
their full potential by providing more room for them to fill up the phone. Videos, pictures, social
media apps are more enjoyable on the big screen as well, improving just about every experience the
phone user has (Titcomb). Additionally, a new form of technology has been added to the screen to
enhance the viewing experience, as well as improved upon previous features. The Telegraph writer,
James Titcomb wrote, Apple has introduced what it calls Super Retina, and what everyone else calls
OLED, to an iPhone for the first time. This new modification allows for greater resolution and higher
contrast on the screen, such as 1,000,000:1 vs 1,400:1. Reportedly, the iPhone X also has the highest
increased resolution, pixel count, and contrast of any previous iPhone. Overall, these advancements
allow for photos and videos to look great and leaves the viewer more satisfied with every feature and
app (Titcomb). Lastly, certain aspects of its appearance were changed to appeal more to the public,
changing its face value. Two distinct characteristics were the glass backing and the chrome edges.
Titcomb said, the edges are chrome a nice throwback to the iPhone 4, which many considered to be

Characterizing the morphology of the alluvial fan with the 1 meter DEM will help to further delineate
the evolution of the fan. Two profiles of the alluvial fan were analyzed by creating traces along the

  • 2. Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh Description The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression. Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard. The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally, the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting. However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home. ... • 3. The Nature of Online Communities Essay The Nature of Online Communities What brings people together on the internet? Is it the desire to find a friend and a community or is it the other extreme of finding someone to argue with and release all the anger that has built up inside? Do people not like who they are in real life and find the internet as a place to have a new identity, the person that they have always wanted to be? Or, is it what Rheingold states in his article The Virtual Community, virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated as thinkers and transmitters of ideas and feeling beings, not carnal vessels with a certain appearance and way of walking and talking (95)? Maybe it is one of these things or a combination of many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The members of this community have the opportunity to meet and chat, if they so desire, through MSN instant messenger. After searching through the Who s Who board and the member profiles, I discovered that a majority of the members are adults, mostly in their thirties or forties. A majority of the members are females, but there are a few male chocolate and coffee lovers sprinkled throughout the bunch. Ironically though, these adults have filled the general post board full of games to play. Rarely are there any personal stories or serious posts on the board. Most of them consist of let s post cool quotes that we ve found, post pictures of cute animals (Animal GIFs 10 6 02), or the most interesting one, type a message in wingdings font and decipher that and write a new message in response in wingdings (The Wingdings Game 10 6 02). (Wingdings is the font that is purely characters and not real letters.) Out of approximately fifty members, only ten people post daily on this site and communicate with each other on a regular basis. I did observe one serious post when one of the women had a personal crisis and posted on her experiences. She instantly received a tremendous amount of support from a majority of the members. • 4. Trade Balance in Foreign Countries Trade balance: Trade surplus is the difference between exports and imports. Positive balance occurs when exports exceed imports, and the deficit of it occurs when imports exceed exports (the minus sign is used to show that). In April February 2013/14 FY. , India s trade with foreign countries has increased in comparison with the same period in 2011/12 FY. by 1.9 % and amounted to 714.1 billion U.S. dollars, while exports declined by 4.0 % (to 266.0 billion U.S. dollars), in the same time imports increased by 0.3 % ( up to 448 , U.S. $ 1 billion ). In general, over the last five years of India s foreign trade has increased almost twice. Reduce of exports of the country to the 2012/13 FY. was associated with the second wave of the financial crisis in the Eurozone and the unfavourable world market conditions on its core products . In April February of 2013/14 FY. India s trade deficit increased by 9.2 % and reached a record it s peak of 182.1 billion dollars. Over the past 12 months the deficit of balance of payments reached it s peak. This caused a collapse of the Indian rupee in the summer of 2013. • 5. Procrastination Research Paper The procrastinator. The prioritizer. The slacker. Which type of studier are you? I believe that I am all three. Procrastination is basically waiting until the last minute to do something. Prioritizing is to arrange or deal with things in the order of importance. Last but not least, slacking is lacking in diligence, care, or concern. Out of all three words, prioritizing sounds the best. Many kids at school like to procrastinate, mostly with tests, I am one of them. This is why we need to form more study habits that will help us excel as we enter higher grade levels. Have you ever thought of why you procrastinate? Maybe it is because you spend multiple hours doing homework, watching television, playing outside, or simply enjoying extracurricular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The number twenty four says to study all day, every day. Lastly, seven means to study on all the seven days of the week. Students test scores have augmented, when doing this process. You never know, studying ten minutes a day may allow your test score to go from a sixty to a ninety. Study habits not only involve you studying by yourself, but you should ask your classmates or teachers for help. If you do not discern the lesson that was taught, pull your teacher off to the side and respectfully ask them for help. Hang around people that do not know the same thing as you, therefore you can help each other out. Helping friends study is always a benign act. Prioritizing is always the best route to go. If you prioritize, you most likely will be less stressed when studying for a test. As we enter high school, there are going to be multiple assignments and tests on the same day, but if you prioritize you can execute your task very well. To exemplify for you, imagine next week we will have three tests on different days. Also, that your teacher has told you two weeks before the test. Most of us would probably wait until the last minute to study. After getting the results, you have only passed one test. Wouldn t it have been better for you to prioritize, so you could have a better outcome? As my saying goes, keep your eyes on the prize and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not the role of art take cautious steps in an attempt to leave its audience unoffended, but rather to embrace diversity of thought and creativity to portray untainted ideas. Filmmaking being a form of art follows the same guidelines and thus shapes society through its objectionable and often jarring subject matter. Without the brutal violence in American History X we would not be able to take an emotional journey of discovering a lost man as he regains his purpose after killing two people under the influence of a neo Nazi gang. The hatred towards everyone as experienced in Taxi Driver is essential to understanding the raging emotions flowing through Travis s mind as he goes on a killing spree. On the opposite end of the spectrum, without the provocative homosexual romance in Brokeback Mountain, the passionate strain of keeping a forbidden love covert would not be felt. Since homosexuality had not been greatly explored in film this way before, Brokeback Mountain generated a confusion of empathy for a love that society would not allow, as well as for those that were betrayed by it. The audience is at war for and against both sides (the lovers and those that do not want the lovers together) in some aspect throughout the movie and the controversy carried into real life. According to the Los Angeles Times, people that identified with the cowboy role portrayed by the two main characters were deeply offended by the homosexual association, which they believed tarnished their cowboy image. The article also says the film s amorous relationship angered homophobic people across the nation, but it also, contrarily, made others more empathetic towards members of the gay community s feelings and desires (Brady). For instance, society today inscribes the notion of perfection into its members, from the first days as a newborn to the last days of life. So, is it healthy to strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for society to distribute support for this unrealistic perfection? No. Therefore, to balance the unrealistic goals of perfection set forth through certain branches of society, society has those individuals who not only mock, but ridicule, through various forms of media, these unrealistic expectations of perfection. For example, in the beginning of the film, a significant scene in which Princess Fiona gets rescued by Shrek, an ogre who masks his appearance with a helmet and disguise, is displayed. Throughout this scene dramatic irony is evident because before Fiona knew Shrek s true identity and outward appearance, she, guided by her misconceptions, believed that her disguised rescuer was a typical Prince Charming. However, the audience was acutely aware that this was not the case. Similar to aspects of our modern society, all her life, Fiona has grown up believing in the generic happily ever after with the perfect Prince Charming and had never dared to think that other alternatives exist. Therefore, through developing dramatic irony and using this specific technique the satire effectively attains its goal when Fiona discovers the true identity of her Prince Charming. Although Shrek had an unrealistic and improbable situation, the audience clearly understands the criticism towards society s great desire at perfection based off of fairy tales. Overall, the film Shrek, provides an outstanding example of contemporary satire that is not only indirect and horatian but also well known to society. This was essential to Greek societies because sacrifice was essential to the polytheistic religion in which they would sacrifice many valuable items to them in order to appease the gods. To successfully appease the gods, Greeks would give up important values such as animals, which were considered very precious and valued items. Sacrifice plays a significant role on Ancient Greek societies, this helps prove to the gods the respect the Greeks have over their authorities. I think the idea from transcendentalism that there is no form of superior intelligence is the reason as to why Bartleby prefers not to (6) in all forms of requests. This is the moment in the story where Bartleby assumes the position of a transcendentalist. This point is where he breaks free of societal duties and refuses all help from the narrator, denying money and shelter from him. Although critiques such as Walter E. Anderson argue that Bartleby s isolation shows Christian moral reading is the correct context to assume, I disagree. There are allusions to biblical texts such as the narrator referring to himself and Bartleby as sons of Adam (11). But I think Bartleby is isolated to show how he is alone from everyone, living in a cubical, and being surrounded by walls. Although Christianity gives feelings of isolation with God, Bartleby is isolated with his spiritual self, saying he would prefer to make no change at all (21). Bartleby determines his fate by questioning himself and his societal roles. He does not look to Christ in any form, not believing in a higher intellectual form. Instead he finds serenity in his civil disobedience. Another form of symbolism important to Bartleby s isolation is the imagery of walls . The body attempts to maintain a state of homeostasis or balance to ensure the optimal operating environment for its complex chemical systems. One such imbalance is the effect of increasing altitude on the body s ability to provide adequate oxygen to be utilized in cellular respiration. When the epiglottis is not covering the opening to the lungs air may pass freely into and out of the trachea. The trachea sometimes called the windpipe branches into two bronchi, which in turn lead to a lung. Once in the lung the bronchi branch many times into smaller bronchioles, which eventually terminate in small sacs called alveoli. It is in the alveoli that the actual transfer of oxygen to the blood takes place. The alveoli are shaped like inflated sacs and exchange gas through a membrane. The passage of oxygen into the blood and carbon dioxide out of the blood is dependent on three major factors: 1) the partial pressure of the gases, 2) the area of the pulmonary surface, and 3) the thickness of the membrane (Gerking, 1969). The membranes in the alveoli provide large surface areas for the free exchange of gasses. The typical thickness of the pulmonary membrane is less than the thickness of a red blood cell. Furthermore, since consumers are bombarded with advert offering its important to avail of whatever attention a brand gets. Thus an attention economy is an approach of management that treat human attention as scare resources and applies an economic theory to make use of that attention; hence the ability of the brand to channel attention creates great value. A semiotic description is consequently a vital means by which we might begin to understand how an image captivates our imaginations. • 30. The Rise Of Prophet Muhammad Essay To some the Prophet Muhammad was nothing more than a common man who shared what he believed to be the word of God and his teachings and to others he was the most compassionate being who would eventually be the savior to all humanity when the time presents itself. During his existence he generated a movement, influenced the thoughts of many individuals and united large groups of people under one common belief. He introduced what would be later known as Islam to anyone willingly to listen. Although met with some opposition and discontent for this form of ideology, it did not prevent people already belonging to religious groups such as, Judaism and Christianity, from being included in the movement. The Believer s movement, the name given to the early religion and followers of Muhammad, continued throughout his lifetime and shortly after his passing. However, once he left this world his path of succession became so conflated and construed wars would be fought over who deserved to learned by either birthrate or a people s favorite. The Believers Movement, a name that was quickly losing its importance, became less about the actual teachings and more about who looked best leading it. There were separate groups before the death of the Prophet Muhammad s death, however, these divisions increased and the meaning of his teaching changed drastically. By comparing two separate group of people during this time period one would better understand how different the focus on leadership and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They can be divided in many religious, economic , and social problems The East India Company was aiming to annex all the states of India like Avadh, Tanjore, Jhansi, Satara, etc. That s why they introduced systems like Doctrine of Lapse by which Indian states could be taken over by the Company in case there was no male heir to the throne of the state. This provoked the rulers like Nana Sahib, the adopted son of Peshwa and Lakshmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi. The Company also declared that after the death of the then Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, his family had to move out of the Red Fort and his successors were also forbidden to use the title of emperor. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of The Iphone X The Apple Company has mostly dominated the cell phone industry since their first iPhone in 2007. Since then, many more iPhones have been created and widely sold throughout the world, including many new features and looks. Recently, the new iPhone X has dropped, creating a new standard for phones everywhere and giving cellphone users a tough decision to make. Many debates whether the new phone is overpriced for its value, however, the iPhone X was priced accordingly because it is better than previous iPhones and other competitors. Ultimately, the iPhone X is worth its unique price of $999 because of its superior design and usefulness to the consumer. The iPhone X greatly attracts customers due to its new, sleek physical appearance, which is an understandable reason for its price. A key component of the interest in the iPhone X is the larger screen. It has 82.9% screen to body ratio compared to the iPhone 8 s 65.6% screen to body ratio (Gordon). This is very helpful to consumers because it uses show watching and book reading apps to their full potential by providing more room for them to fill up the phone. Videos, pictures, social media apps are more enjoyable on the big screen as well, improving just about every experience the phone user has (Titcomb). Additionally, a new form of technology has been added to the screen to enhance the viewing experience, as well as improved upon previous features. The Telegraph writer, James Titcomb wrote, Apple has introduced what it calls Super Retina, and what everyone else calls OLED, to an iPhone for the first time. This new modification allows for greater resolution and higher contrast on the screen, such as 1,000,000:1 vs 1,400:1. Reportedly, the iPhone X also has the highest increased resolution, pixel count, and contrast of any previous iPhone. Overall, these advancements allow for photos and videos to look great and leaves the viewer more satisfied with every feature and app (Titcomb). Lastly, certain aspects of its appearance were changed to appeal more to the public, changing its face value. Two distinct characteristics were the glass backing and the chrome edges. Titcomb said, the edges are chrome a nice throwback to the iPhone 4, which many considered to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characterizing the morphology of the alluvial fan with the 1 meter DEM will help to further delineate the evolution of the fan. Two profiles of the alluvial fan were analyzed by creating traces along the alluvial fan seen in figure 3b and figure 3c. The elevation of figure 3b and figure 3c was traced with ArcGIS and calculated using MatLab. The cross sections of the alluvial fan show the curvature of the fan morphology. These traces align in the west east direction shown in figure 3b that corresponds to the profile of figure 11. Figure 3c alignment is in the north south direction and corresponds to profile figure 12. Where the traces end, it marks the change of the slope profile of the fan. It is difficult to see but the cross section from a to g starts out convex to concave retrospectivity. According to Stock J.D. (2008) how sediments are transported; longer profiles are commonly concave up and the shorter fans are generally convex. In contrast, the cross sections of figure 9 show how the sediments are dispersed. There is higher density of material in profile A and has a slight convex morphology.
