Richard Lederer The Case For Short Words Summary
A lot of the time in the world today we believe bigger is better, but is it truly? Short words and how
they are superior to the long is explained in the simplistic style he shares in Mr. Richard Lederer s
essay The Case for Short Words. We never do think of how when we say things simply the meaning
comes across quickly and in other cases more meaningful. After all the world is big so when we can
make things small why don t we go ahead and try. Mr. Lederer shows us through his own experiences
how short words can make for a more impactful meaning. How the simplicity can bring beauty to a
reader s mind proves the forethought in writing this essay. Mr. Lederer then proceeds to show us this
truth through the writings and sayings of great people

Corporate Incentives for Hedging and Hedge Accounting
Abstract
The aim of this term paper is to supply an analysis on the rationales for corporations to apply hedging
and hedge accounting. In order to do so, P. M. DeMarzo and D. Duffie s paper Corporate Incentives
for Hedging and Hedge Accounting published 1995 will be reviewed and analysed.
This term paper will start with a short review of the literature on corporate risk management and
hedging policies and then move on to a description of the model developed by DeMarzo and Duffie
and its rationale. Then, their findings and propositions will be presented followed by the conclusion.

In 2008, Muller and Verschoor, published a study on 471 non financial European firrms from the UK,
Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In this study they aim to investigate the informational effect of
disclosing derivative positions. It is an interesting matter since European firms did not disclose any of
this information until 1990. The study focuses on the usage of foreign exchange derivatives while also
investigating the condition in which a firm decides to employ these instruments and to which extent.
Even though they have found evidence of the firms using derivatives, their study presented weak
results in terms of informative effect of derivative position disclosure.
Model
DeMarzo and Duffie build a model in their paper in order to illustrate the relationship between
investors, accounting information and managers incentive. It involves other factors such as the choice
between accounting and economic risk hedging, derivative position disclosure, firm reputation and
volatility of managers future wages. To illustrate their interaction consider the following graph:
Description of the Model
DeMarzo and Duffie s model builds upon the one from Holmstrom and Ricart i Costa (1986). The
time frame is two periods. Total profits without hedging after period 1 is denoted as X+ θɛ, where
X=a+e+m is a profit component dependent on project quality e and manager s capability a as well as

The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often only
remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the process.
These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire reason for war
was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his emancipation proclamation.
This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really credit this all to Lincoln? Was
Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and destroy it with one single blow?
African Americans are overlooked when talking about their emancipation but they were some of the
strongest advocates for the end to slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the voters ...
Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished (McPherson, p.
16). Massachusetts representatives opposed the compromise in Washington which proved the
importance the free northern blacks in attaining freedom for all African Americans. After these failed
attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the war many blacks ran across battle lines
to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the fugitive slave law, they were returned back to
their owners. This begins to change after prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise
the government for avoiding slavery as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the
name of all that is national, does our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The
very stomach of the rebellion is the negro in the condition of a slave... The negro is the key of the
situation the pivot upon which the whole rebellion turns... (McPherson, p. 39). He explains that not
only is slavery is a moral issue that the war should be fought for, but he brings policy maker s
attentions to the fact that the south s rebellion relies on slavery and without it would crumble.
Douglass not only attacked the issue of slavery from the legislative side but also from a grassroots

Mission Trip Narrative
(The last suitcase was shoved into the back of the bus, and our next stop would be Winchester,
Virginia.) My youth group and I were headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a mission trip. We
would be involved with a program called P 2 mission, which partnered us with a local church, Calvary
Christian. During the day we would be doing street outreach and during the night we would be hosting
a Vacation Bible School. There was an urgency to have this church up and running because the
community around it was crumbling. The church itself was located in a shanty town. Violence was on
the rise and the community was in desperate need of a strong foundation. The corruption was
spreading so rapidly that the church s basketball court was becoming a place where sexual predators
would prey on young children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our bus broke down, our hotel rooms were given away, we had no air conditioning for a majority of
the trip, and what we thought would take us 11 hours ended up taking 26. We finally arrive at the
school, where we would be sleeping for the remainder of the week. We stepped foot off the bus and
we were immediately aghast at how sweltering the air was. Apparently, Philadelphia was in the midst
of a heat wave, bringing in record highest of 105F. After such a long journey the feeling of failure was
weighing upon us. At the end of the day we were all exhausted and ready to fall into a deep slumber.
Then we realized our room, just like the bus, had no air conditioning. We lay there sweating against
the plastic filled air mattress dreading the proceeding day when we would be hiking the melting streets

Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating
Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered
eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost
the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered
eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating
disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive
amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or
anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The
National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN
and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe
dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system
function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some
of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent
vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic
ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health
issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to

A Leader s Leader Of Pakistan
When we think of a leader, we think of someone who has power and someone who helps others
become better. Some of the most important leaders are a political leader who attempts to lead a
country into the right direction or attempts to improve the country. Most of these leaders, such as
presidents or prime ministers of a country, are males, but women sometimes enter office. One women
leader that became the prime minister of Pakistan helped the country improve tremendously. Benazir
Bhutto was this leader. She was the first female leader in the Muslim world. Following in her dad s
footsteps, Benazir Bhutto became the leader of the Pakistan People s Party and then the eleventh

Her brother, Murtaza Bhutto was killed in a battle with police. After the death of Mohammad Zia,
Pakistan opened free elections; this led to the first female prime minister in the Muslim world, Benazir

election but was then back in office from 1993 1996. As a women and the first women leader of
Pakistan, one of Benazir Bhutto s most important works was her work towards more women rights.
Women in Pakistan did not have much freedom, but Bhutto helped change this. When Benazir Bhutto
was elected into office, she brought women into the cabinet. She also created the Ministry of Women s
Development and other institutions to help women in family planning, counseling, and birth control.
The creation of the Women s Development Bank also helped the women of Pakistan. The Women s
Development Bank gave credit only to women. Along with helping women with aid, Bhutto raised the
ban on women not being able to participate in sporting events. She also had programs and studies
implemented into colleges. Along with helping women in Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto also helped the
poor and children. Bhutto began by helping give electricity to villages in Pakistan. At first, only 260
villages in Pakistan had electricity. This left 80,000 villages without electricity. With electricity, new

Water diffuses across the membrane from the region of lower solute concentration (higher free water

concentrations on both sides of the membrane are equal. The diffusion of free water across a
selectively permeable membrane, whether artificial or cellular, is called osmosis. The movement of
water across cell membranes and the balance of water between the cell and its environment are crucial
to organisms. ( Diffusion And Osmosis Difference And Comparison | Diffen ). A semi permeable

When the final mass was measured the excess water in the potato cube might have not been
completely removed, thus it adds to the final mass of the potato cubes. This acts as a major error
because it gives an inaccurate representation of the actual percentage change in mass of the potato
cubes, also while measuring the mass of each cube of potato; the value fluctuated and was not
consistent.
Another potential error, which might have occurred, is the temperature fluctuation throughout the
experiment. The rate of osmosis will be affected if the temperature in inconsistent, as more heat
increases rate of osmosis and cooler temperature decreases rate of osmosis.
Other sources of errors maybe that the cube were placed too closely to surface of the beaker so its
ability to absorb the solutions because the closest sides to each other could obstruct the process of
osmosis by blocking their exposure to the solution or of the varying time at which the cubes were

Internal Financial Statements For Business Performance And...
Introduction
The details of even the smallest business or commercial enterprise can be extremely complicated.
Global enterprises are significantly more complex. Internal financial statements provide business
leaders a method to evaluate business performance and support the decision making process. The
income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows are important financial statements used
by a firm s managers, owners, and lenders. Ratio Analysis provides a method to analyze these
statements.
Income Statement The income statement is an important tool for tracking cash flow in and out of an
organization. The income statement tracks revenue and expenses over a period of time, or accounting

359). This snapshot provides a clear understanding of where the company stands financially. Similar
to the income statement, the balance sheet can be compared to previous balance sheets to understand
key financial trends of the organization. The balance sheet, by definition, is associated with balancing
assets, liabilities, and owner equity. Company assets should equal liabilities plus owner equity
(Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 359). This relationship, a balanced equation between assets, liabilities, and
equity, provides the balance sheet its name. Some of the major assets claimed by a corporation include
cash, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets (Melicher Norton, 2014, pp. 359 360) while
major liabilities include accounts payable and various types of debt (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 360
361). Equity can include preferred stock, common stock, or retained earnings (Melicher Norton, 2014,
p. 361). Like the income statement, the balance sheet provides consistency on how financial
information is organized and categorized. It provides a consistent method to view the information of a
corporation over time and also allows for the comparison of financial information between companies.
Statement of Cash Flows The statement of cash flows looks at inbound and outbound cash from a
different perspective than the income

No Real Verbal Love And Emotional Relationship
We need to be in Chicago around two in the morning , he said to me before every trip. He liked to put
on this big affirmative voice every time we he was trying to be serious. He looked at me with his arms
crossed and his jaw locked. Waiting. Waiting for a verbal confirmation to come from my mouth. Yes. I
d say in a monotone voice it became a second nature to say yes each time we were traveling. One of
his brows would scrunch up, and a smirk would lay upon his mouth, knowing I hated verbally
conforming to him. He would walk into his room and he would turn off the light. I would walk to
mine as well, no words where said between us. That is how it was between us for many years, no real
verbal love just mental or emotional. My father and I have always been on a mental and emotional
relationship. He was not the normal father by any means, but we communicated in a way no one else
could understand.
To say we communicated in a way no one else could understand was correct. Almost all of our
conversations are not said verbally. When I first started high school this was pretty evident, he was
almost like any other father afraid that I would grow up too fast in high school. So he sat me down at
the table, I was at one end he was at the other. You could hear our separate breathing. The clock began
to tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. The ticks got louder as the silence in the room got bigger. His eyes held
no emotion. I was not scared by any means. I looked up at him, the

Character Sketch Of Tolstoy
2 Tolstoy s Character. Tolstoy was a multi dimensional man. In his long career he had been a teacher
and educational theorist, a philosopher and social critic, a successful farmer and paterfamilias, a
soldier, and a prophet. Above all, however, he was a great artist, and it is on his fiction that his fame at
present rests. The literary career of this great writer of the Russian land (as his contemporary Turgenev
called him) may be divided into three parts: the early period of literary apprenticeship (1851 63), the
period of the great novels (1863 77), and the later period of preoccupation with the message of his
religious teaching (1878 1910). The works of the early period may be regarded as the school in which
Tolstoy taught himself to write. He isolated the themes and developed the literary ... Show more

His account focuses heavily on both sides tactical successes and failures from maneuvers in battle to
how they handled occupied territory. Before the French surrender, Pierre s brush with execution
becomes a cutting satire of French bureaucracy, which functions so badly that Pierre is nearly
executed simply because a general was interrupted while he was deciding Pierre s sentence. However,
the Russians also become objects of Tolstoy s critique. He depicts disorganization and a lack of
professionalism on both sides. The French failures are not limited to their ineffective bureaucracy.
Since the battle of Borodino and the looting of Moscow, Tolstoy writes, the French army had borne
within itself, as it were, the chemical conditions of its decomposition Napoleon and his generals seem
to have good intentions they order their men not to loot and treat the Russians they meet respectfully.
However, the privation and lack of discipline in the French army means that the foot soldiers eagerly

A. Plan of Investigation
After a devastating civil war in Korea in early 1950s, South Korea faced a new, unprecedented phase
in forming a constitutional government with assistance from the United States and the United Nations.
Korea especially experienced several crucial reforms in politics and in society due to introduction of
democracy and diffusion of Western culture. To determine the extent of contributions by the United
States and the United Nations in late 1950s, the investigation will examine the nature and extent of
three major commitments in reconstruction: injection of democracy into Korean government,
reconstruction of politics, and societal reforms for modernization. Not only scholarly sources from
databases, such as EBSCO and CLIO, but also books were used as references in order to determine the
extent of commitments. The Coldest Winter by Halberstam and Grand Expectations by Patterson were
mainly used to advocate American support, as well as Koreans perspective on modernization.
B. Summary of Evidence
After the cruel civil war, South Korea faced a new phase of history full of new adoptions into both
government and society. Under constant supervision of the U.S. and U.N. of which

Rama s Quest For Sita, Justice And For Dharma
The tale of Sugriva in the Ramayana is crucial to Rama s quest for Sita, justice and for Dharma. The
story serves a number of purposes within the Hindu epic such as giving the reader an understanding of
the relationship between brothers, friends, and rulers as well as giving us a complicated but important
look at a different side of Rama. Sugriva s story within the context of the Ramayana is quite different
than the others because of a few controversial topics and questions that come up while reading it. All
of them pertain to Rama and his development not only as the leader of the state but as a god. Rama,
the epitome of virtue and valor, is the incarnation of the Hindu god, Vishnu. As this incarnate of the
most widely praised Hindu god, there are certain qualities that are expected of him. These qualities are
exemplified throughout the Ramayana with the exception of one or two acts within Sugriva s story.
Rama s role in this tale seems to be a blemish on his otherwise virtuous and spotless history. I will first
present a synopsis of this tale in order to build a foundation for my argument that Rama is actually
justified in his actions with Sugriva, and towards Vali, which are so easily condemned as not god like.
Sugriva is the brother of Vali, the ruler of the kingdom of Kishkindha. Kishkindha is the home of the
Vanaras, a species of monkeys with human qualities who later aid Rama in retrieving his wife, Sita.
The kingdom of Kishkindha was disturbed one day by the Mayavi, a

State X Enacted A Statute Essay
State X enacted a statute in 2000 that stated, the governor has the sole authority to declare a state of
emergency and, during the emergency, to suspend all rules, regulations, and rights as seem fit without
court supervision and/or authorization. Following a breach of levees in City B located in State X, the
governor of State X ordered that all legal and illegal firearms be confiscated. The governor also
ordered all police and troops to conduct a house to house search and seizure of all such weapons. In
order to determine the constitutionality of the statute under the circumstances, we must first examine
the constitutional authorities prevalent to the issue at hand. The constitutional authorities that apply to
this statute are the 5th and 14th amendments. The 5th amendment states, No person shall be deprived
of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. The 14th amendment states in pertinent part
Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. There
are two types of due process; procedural and substantive. Procedural due process occurs when an

Ways To Take Epic Travel Photographs Alone Essay
Ways to Take Epic Travel Photos Alone
Taking amazing photos relies on paying attention to every detail. D. Scott Carruthers, an experienced
photographer, has developed a list of iconic and scenic places to take pictures. Read on to see the
different options to take photos.
Self timed Photos
Majority of cameras, GoPros and smartphones have an option for timers. Some apps can be
downloaded so if you don t have a timer on your smartphone there is no need to worry. Self timer is
excellent for people who have a lot of time to kill. You can place your camera few feet away from you
and take about ten seconds to position yourself. To add variety to your shot selection, keep making
different poses, or you can even dance. Timed photos make others ... Show more content on

You can take shots from the back of the head, half face and side of the face to come up with incredible
images that also feature the background.
Look for a Couple Taking an Awkward Selfie
To use this method appropriately, you have to know the exact kind of picture you want. You can help
to capture a photo of a couple that is confused on how to take selfies and let them observe your
movement to make sure they take the same exact shot of you. Since they already have an incredible
photo of them from you, they will take time to produce a picture that will make you happy.
Video Screenshots
This technique may seem complicated as it takes quick photos, but it s great if you need a variety to of
photos. You can upload the video on a computer and take screenshots of the frames that you like, crop
and then edit to upload it as a photo. Videos are fantastic as you can do actions that you would not do
when holding a phone. Some cameras have 4K photography function that enables the camera to take
about 150 photos in about 5 seconds with little motion blur.
SloMo Screenshots
SloMo videos are ideal for still pictures compared to actual videos. It is a great idea for things that
move fast such as waterfalls and animals. You can later edit the photos and get to frame your favorite
shots. You can mount your phone where you are sure to get the right angle to get perfect shots of Slow
Mo by yourself.

Comparing The Religious Agenda Of John Donne And Francis...
The Religious Agenda of John Donne and Francis Bacon Discuss the significance of religious belief in
writing you have studied on the course.
Introduction
The Renaissance period was marked with bouts of religious change, from the Protestant Reformation
in Germany to the formation of the Church of England. Much of the literature published during the
Renaissance was a reaction to these constant changes the works of John Donne and Francis Bacon are
no different. Donne and Bacon were prominent writers of their time. They were well known for
indulging in religious debate through their work, especially with relation to other societal issues such
as the rise of science. Donne s Satire III highlights the issue of religious uncertainty ... Show more

He uses his priest like tone at the end of the poem to encourage his fellowman to cement their
relationship with God instead of pursuing a relationship with the church.
Extended Metaphor
Furthermore, Donne encourages people to find a spiritual or personal faith of their own through the
extended metaphor of religion as a lady. He states, Is not our Mistress, fair Religion/ As worthy of all
our soul s devotion . He presents religion in female form and lists men who seek a relationship with
her. For example, Marcus seeks her at Rome, indicating that Marcus seeks the truth of religion in
Catholicism. On the other hand, a Careless Phygrius abhors all religion and dares not commit to one
lest it be the wrong one. Here, Donne outlines the search for true religion via the points of view of
different men, showing the different avenues others have gone down in the effort to find the true
religion. And yet, despite all the various efforts to find the true religion, Donne states that all women
are the same, just like religion. This controversial statement, at a time where differenent churches were
forming, acts as a thinking point for society. Donne makes people re think their confimority to church
laws and encourages them to find true spirituality within themselves.
Donne s purpose is clear: he is writing to convince himself and society that no matter what
denomination one chooses to adhere to, they are all seen as one under the eyes of God. He concludes

My Favorite Leisure Experiences In My Life
Throughout my life my leisure activities have changed many times. From playing video games; to
sports and hanging out with friends. Out of my many favorite leisure experiences my most favorite
would be hanging out with friends. Being with other people and having fun is one of the best feelings
to me because it takes off all the stress of my life difficulties. It is very important to reflect on one s
past and present leisure experiences because they reminds of the best and most fun memorable
moments in our lives. We live in a very stressful society where we hardly have any fun time due to
work, school, or just our very busy lives. During stressful times or difficult times reflecting on those
memorable moments has a very positive impact on us. As I have grown older I have definitely
experienced many of the levels of Nash s Paradigm of Free Time.
When I was in middle school I participated in activities that would be classified as acts performed
against society on Nash s Paradigm. At the time I was about 14 years old and did not think thoroughly
about my actions. I used to participate in shoplifting and vandalism as my leisure activities. Me and
my friends would hang out after school and tag the walls around our school and would go into stores
to steal snacks or drinks. At the time I did not realise how irresponsible and idiotic my actions were.
At first when I began to tag it had a bad psychological effect on me because I would be paranoid I was
going to get caught by the cops or someone of authority. The more I did it the less paranoid I felt but
never felt completely safe and always had a negative psychological effect. Tagging the walls was a
way to express how I felt at the time. I felt I had to represent my crew which i was involved with.
Participating in these activities did have a physical effect because most of the time I did a lot of
running. Whenever someone would catch us we had to run away as fast as we could and it would get
us tired. It did make me feel good the running had a good effect on my body as it slimed me down a
bit. This was a very social activity. Sometimes we would walk around in groups of 10 15 guys just
messing around and having fun. I did build a lot of friendships at the time by

[Bailliard, OJRD] Fallot s contributions gave way to significant advances in understanding the defects
and how this disrupted the correct blood flow throughout the body. Fallot is responsible for
discovering that while, usually only one of the defects occurs, rarely, the cyanotic patient will present
with two or more, then most common of the four defects being the deviated septum and the pulmonary
artery stenosis. When a ventricular septum defect occurs, a mixing of oxygen rich and oxygen poor
blood takes place. A ventricular septum defect is a hole in the septum, or the wall between the left and
right chambers of the heart. This hole happens to be in between the lower two chambers, or ventricles.
The left ventricle receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs, while the right ventricle houses the
oxygen poor blood from the body. The purpose of the separation by the septum is to prevent a mixture
of the blood. Therefore, as long as there is a defect preventing the separation, the heart will continue to
pump a mixture of the blood to the rest of the body. This causes the cells of the body to not receive all
of the required oxygen that it would normally obtain with a fully intact septum, thus causing the
cyanotic, or blue, appearance of the patient. The second most commonly occurring defect is that of
pulmonary stenosis. This affects two areas; the

Why We Should Be A Fee On Plastic Bags
There should be a fee on plastic bags
Why should we have to continue to litter or use plastic so that we can just toss them out when we don
t need them any more? That is why I think there should be a fee. When we litter, as shown in the video
those small things are winding up in the lakes and oceans and killing wildlife. Also I believe that befor
you get a chance to litter and hurt wildlife you should pay the price not them. We should stop because
plastic is not biodegradable so it will be around for a while if it ends up in a body of water. If there
they stay and float in the water than it is a better chance of it to pose a threat for other water animals.
There should be a fee on plastic bags because plastic is not biodegradable, every square mile of the
ocean has 46,000 pieces of plastic, and they have external cost.
One important reason that there should be a fee on plastic bags are that they are biodegradable and
that means that they are not going away anytime soon. According to creeklife.com 46,000 pieces of
plastic are floating in any body of water. So that means that 23,000 animals are in danger. What i m
saying here is that if all of these people want to stop animal brutality then there is another way and it is
that we should pay a price to contribute. And the money can go to an animal fundraiser. Now, some ...

Five Theories Of Virtue Ethics
Virtue Ethics
All along the history of man, there has been that big question of who or what determines what is
moral. Ethics started to take shape when man began to question his actions and the reasons
surrounding those actions. Am I doing the right thing? How do I know if it is the right? In a bid to
explain the different ways in which individuals view morality, ethical theories evolved. There are five
main theories; Intuitionism, Consequentialism, Deontological theory, Virtue ethics and Natural law.
For the sake of this discussion, I will be focusing on Virtue Ethics. According to Aristotle, a virtue is a
trait of mind and character that helps us achieve a good life . (Routledge, ND) Aristotle, like his
predecessors, Socrates and Plato, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It assumes that it is by being virtuous that one acts morally thereby becoming better members of the
society. This is because one is not prompted merely by duty to the state to do good but by virtues
which makes his good actions innate. For instance, a student reporting a bully to the school not out of
duty to the school but because of her abhorrence for injustice. Aristotle believed that it is by acting in
the right way over and over again that one becomes virtuous. For instance, it is by an individual s
ability to make wise decisions that makes him prudent. If every individual is striving to do what is
considered to be the right thing, the society becomes a better place. Who is a virtuous person? This is
a question we should all ask ourselves. Aristotle identified virtues based on the characters appreciated
by his society that time and studied the ways in which they could be acquired and improved.
Therefore, it right to say that the term virtuous varies from society to society according to different
cultures. For instance, if one is considered virtuous in Ogun state, this does not mean that that same
person will be considered virtuous in Imo state because both cultures differ. This simply means that
virtue ethics is not

Comparing Traditional Etl And How A Tool Like Apache Drill
Introduction In today s database landscape, much of an organization s raw data is known to be housed
in heterogeneous data stores. In order to merge this siloed data, it must be extracted, transformed, and
loaded (ETL) into a common platform known as a Data Warehouse. Once in the Data Warehouse, the
data can thus be analyzed using multidimensional data mining (OLAP).
The major drawback of the ETL process, however, is time. It may take a company an entire day (24h)
to even an entire business week (5 days) to have the Data Warehouse filled with the next period s data.
However as each minute passes, this data which is yet to be loaded is becoming stale and less relevant
to action. As such, big data time to value typically suffers.
Thus, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the implications of traditional ETL and how a tool like
Apache Drill can be used to pull down the barriers of ETL and allow data to be queried in place. Then,
a discussion of what Apache Drill is and how it works will follow. Lastly, a small demo of Apache
Drill will be performed on a large dataset to give the reader a better understanding of its application.
ETL s Role in Data Warehousing For a typical organization today, sources of data may and most likely
do come in many different formats. As an example, Han, et al. (2012) states, the types of data sources
that generate huge amounts of data is endless and include and are not limited to: databases, other data
warehouses, data marts, the Web,

because it fetishizes products [...] meet our emotional needs (489). This quote unfolds the truth on
how advertising and media portray women as sex symbols. Both the media and advertising have
women portrayed in a sexual way, which affect the image of women drastically. In advertising
specifically, Solnit points out a problem that occurs in the gaming community when Solnit states,
Women in the online gaming community have been harassed, threatened, and driven out (528). This
quote shows how women in today s world cannot even speak out of a problem of a game design
without getting death threats. In those games woman characters nowadays are simply stretched to the
extremes of sexualizing the women characters. An example of a specific game that has women
portrayed in an overly sexual way is in the Mortal Kombat series. In the game, the women are
portrayed as either sex symbols while on the other hand the male characters would be completely
normal or they are a mutant monster build. The women who try to speak about the displayed images
of women in such video games in result from doing so results in the women receiving massive hate,

The Pros And Cons Of Disabilities
The only disability in life is a bad attitude Scott Hamilton. People who are born physically impaired
do not let that define them or hold them back from being happy. Although, some may say people with
disabilities are treated equally even though they are handicapped, they are wrong. Handicapped people
are treated differently through social interactions because they are Handicapped. People s physical
disability will vary in everyone.
The word handicapped is first recorded in the late 19th century in the sense referring to a person s
mental or physical disabilities. In British English it was the standard term until the 1980s, but it has
been superseded by disabled, or, in reference to mental disability, expressions such as having learning
difficulties or learning disabled. In American English handicapped is still sometimes used, especially
in phrases such as handicapped accessible and handicapped parking. The International Classification
of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) defines disability as an umbrella term for impairments,
activity limitations and participation restrictions. Disability is the interaction between individuals with
a health condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and depression) and personal and
environmental factors (e.g. negative attitudes, inaccessible transportation and public buildings, and
limited social supports). People have different ways of explaining and knowing what disability really
means.

The counsel for the appellant goes further to say that based on expert evidence, women with a long
history of violent treatment may react to provocation with what he calls a slow burn reaction rather
than an instantaneous loss of self control.10
The Judge held that the phrase sudden and temporary loss of control summarizes the main idea of the
defence of provocation, and that its main purpose as a defence is strictly concerned with the actions of
an individual who as not that that moment master of his own mind. However, the longer the interval of
time between the provocation and the fatal act the stronger the evidence on deliberation.11
The appellant s second submission concerned the way the judge in the first instance referenced sudden

direction was incorrect. He also proposed that the learned Judge s direction regarding the appellant s

which so affected her personality that it put her in a state of learnt helplessness. Secondly, that the list
of characteristics should have been left open so that the jury may pick up on the fact that she suffered

even though it may be considered an infringement on human rights and freedom of expression, it
protects the rights of the rest of the military and opens a loophole for gay men and women to serve in

is violation to all service members privacy. Officially, military commanders and investigators are

Selfishness Essay
Selfishness
Most of us assume that selfishness is both wrong and unhealthy. But is this true?
Selfishness means acting in one s rational self interest. Contrary to popular opinion, all healthy
individuals are selfish. Choosing to pursue the career of your choice is selfish. Choosing to have
children #8212;or not to have children #8212;is selfish. Insisting on freedom and individual rights,
rather than living under a dictatorship, is selfish. Indeed, even ordinary behaviors such as breathing,

genuinely cares about #8212;his family, friends, or children (greater values). But why should he make

Selfish individuals give to charity #8212;if and when they choose. A selfish person is not stingy. He

Most of us assume that some selfishness is healthy, but too much selfishness will lead to loneliness

The Role Of External Auditors On Public Financial Statements
External auditors play important roles in delivering credibility of public financial statements to
stakeholders outside of the audited firms (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, 2008).
Published financial statements can be used by stakeholders as a basis for evaluating the financial
position of firms, analyzing the performance of management, or making investment decisions
(International Organization of Securities Commissions, 2002). Published financial statements will also
be used by institutions such as rating agencies to decide the worthiness of the firms, and by banks, to
decide the amount of loans that banks are willing to lend to (International Organization of Securities
Commissions, 2002). Thus, the public is significantly influenced by the examined financial statements
by external auditors (International Organization of Securities Commissions, 2002). For management,
they need to make estimates and judgments to write financial statements, such as choosing among
alternative accounting principles by considering the existing and potential clients base of the firm;
Whilst, the auditors are responsible of examining statements made by management and to express
opinion on them (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, 2008). Auditors will collect
evidence to ensure reasonable assurance that the disclosures and detailed numbers in the statements
are free of material misstatements (Francis and Krishnan, 1999). In addition, auditors also

Isaac Asimov I Robot Quotes
The book I, Robot is a fictional story written by Isaac Asimov. It was first published on December
2nd, 1950, but it is still a famous classic read today. In the following two paragraphs, I want to relate
two quotes from the novel to a personal connection as well as a text to text connection respectfully.
Let s start with the text to text connection. In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is
found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best
buddy and caregiver. During the beginning of the novel, Gloria was furious that her mother correlated
Robbie to a machine, as Gloria thought the contrary to her mother. She believed that he was a person
just like you and me and he was [her] friend (Asimov 28), and while robots are not human and are not
made of flesh and blood, Gloria believed that the robots are capable of feeling and interacting with
humans just as if humans were interacting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Black + White = Black by Lawrence Hill, Hill explains the segregation between Blacks and Whites
and how Whites didn t treat Blacks as people because of their colour. This is similar to how Gloria s
mother does not treat robots as humans, but rather as a nasty old machine (Asimov 28), and this shows
how Gloria s mother and Whites show no respect to the other species due to their own personal
judgments and beliefs, which are falsely created by themselves. Both represent isolation of a certain
species due to the mistrust, tension, and stereotypes they have between one another, and both show
that even though there is no valid reason as to why they should not trust one another, there is still
conflict between the Blacks and Whites nowadays in all parts of the world just like there is conflict
between Gloria s mother and the

Refrigerator Mother Theory
Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins
University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator
mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed
after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society.
Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature, meaning
alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim, Austrian
born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autism was caused
from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good
connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent
father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both cases,
psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children not
receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good
parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD.
Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory. Andrew Wakefield
published an article in the medical journal, Lancelot, reporting that the measles, mumps and rubella
(MMR) vaccine would trigger the autism spectrum disorder (Godlee,

Charles Coughlin Father Hate Speech
Controversial Priest Charles Coughlin is known as the infamous priest that would speak his mind and
give his controversial speeches over the radio, mainly about the Americas economic crisis and the
government. Americans around the United States would tune in to Father Coughlin s weekly radio
broadcasts and listen to his outrage input about the American government and the little the
government was doing to improve the nation s debt. How can it be that a priest of a small Michigan
congregation, could become a famous individual that was liked by many, hated by quite a few, and is
intensely involved in American politics. Americans heard the voice of Father Charles Coughlin and

Braham is present behind everything.
Search for truth.

us.
Reincarnation, is the promise set forth from Brahma. We will continue to turn the wheel of existence
until we achieve enlightenment.
Through finding Atman, the one experiencing this will be able to be connected to Brahma and through
this begin to see the world as he see it.

The four noble truths are one of the many teachings.
(1) Suffering.
We are doomed to repeatedly suffer the passion of losing what we love or desire.
(2) Cause of suffering.
We suffer because we grasp and try to cling to things that never last.
The one who lacks the deeper fundamental reality is deemed maya.

The Importance Of Adversity And Character Challenges By...
Everyone has faced adversity at some point in their lives, yet we survive and emerge from our
obstacles more resilient than before. As the proverb states, What doesn t kill you makes you stronger.
Whether it is a hidden gift that may lead to future success, or simply determination that helped you
power through the obstacle, people always end up discovering talents that they didn t have before.
Like Roman poet Horace claims, adversity induces hidden talents that would not have been unmasked
under prosperous conditions. How exactly does adversity bring forth special abilities? Adversity
creates opportunities to discover talents that are used to face it. After falling ill at eighteen months,
Helen Keller became deaf and blind, destined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With almost no money left and a large debt from all the expenses paid in court, he knew that he had to
find a new way to support the remainder of his family. My uncle was able to start a new business from
scratch. He had no prior knowledge of the new business, a pizza store, but he managed to learn
everything himself out of necessity. Adversity forced him to do what he needed to do to survive,
bringing out talents which he didn t know he had before. Another example of adversity pushing
someone to the limit is Kris Carr, a woman who found out she had a rare stage four cancer in her liver
and lungs. With no other option, Kris Carr decided to create a new nutritional lifestyle for herself to
fight against her illness. She managed to survive her severe cancer and become an expert on healthy
living, writing several self help books. The will to survive pushed Kris to change her life for the better
and discover talents that were previously hidden. If you work hard, you gain hard. This popular saying
is supported by Malcolm Gladwell who states that there is a direct correlation between effort and
reward on page 149 of Outliers. The concept highlights the fact that effort is essential for success.
Gladwell provides the example of a clothes maker Borgenicht and his wife who were successful
because they sewed aprons all night long, putting in a lot of effort for their business. To overcome
adversity, people have to work through it. Benjamin Franklin was ten years old when he was

Support is the percentage or number of occurrences of items in both antecedent and consequent item
sets in a transaction.
In the case of the matrix : Support ( a) is the number or the percentage of the occurrence of { Bronzer,
Concealer, Brushes, Nail Polish}/ transaction
= Support (a) = {Bronzes, Concealer, Brushes, Nail Polish}/ transaction
Support (c) = It is the number of occurrence of the item set in the consequent.
= In this case it appears that Brushes, Concealers appeared in the consequent item 77 times.
Support (a U c) = This is the support of the combined item set. Therefore it will be the Union of
Support (a) = 103 and Support (c) =77, which is 62.
iii) For the first row explain the Lift Ratio and how it is calculated Lift Ratio is another way of testing
or judging the strength of an association rule. It helps to know the effectiveness of the rule in finding
the consequents. It is done by comparing the confidence of the rule with a benchmark confidence
value.
Benchmark confidence on the other hand is calculated in the following manner:
Benchmark confidence = no. transactions with consequent item set/ no. transactions in database.
Lift Ratio is the outcome of the comparison of Confidence to the Benchmark confidence.
It is the confidence of the rule divided by the confidence, assuming independence of consequent from
antecedent:

online store, one key element influencing customers satisfaction is the on time delivery. Accordingly
the KPI is the delivery time and the number of times of late delivery. On the other hand, in physical
store part, if Walmart wants to enhance customers access to Walmart, it needs to guarantee the
coverage rate in every country and every city.
In customers experience part, we divided it into two aspect: improving customers experience by
product quality and service satisfaction. Walmart needs to provide customers with products of high

Dialectical Journal For Animal Farm By George Orwell
The ending to this book was depressing. It evoked feelings of sadness, anger and indignation. Sadness
because the animals thought that they were working towards something meaningful to them, all
together. They fought hard, as a unit, to overthrow Jones and continued to work hard throughout to
better all of their conditions . As the story line progresses, you see that they are being taken advantage
of, yet still innocently believe they are working towards an improved life. The rebellion results were
not as they had hoped, as the book ends. The feeling of anger arises when the animals become aware
that there is little difference between the pigs and the people they wanted liberty from. The animals
had trusted the pigs to lead them to freedom,

  • 2. Richard Lederer The Case For Short Words Summary A lot of the time in the world today we believe bigger is better, but is it truly? Short words and how they are superior to the long is explained in the simplistic style he shares in Mr. Richard Lederer s essay The Case for Short Words. We never do think of how when we say things simply the meaning comes across quickly and in other cases more meaningful. After all the world is big so when we can make things small why don t we go ahead and try. Mr. Lederer shows us through his own experiences how short words can make for a more impactful meaning. How the simplicity can bring beauty to a reader s mind proves the forethought in writing this essay. Mr. Lederer then proceeds to show us this truth through the writings and sayings of great people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Corporate Incentives for Hedging and Hedge Accounting Abstract The aim of this term paper is to supply an analysis on the rationales for corporations to apply hedging and hedge accounting. In order to do so, P. M. DeMarzo and D. Duffie s paper Corporate Incentives for Hedging and Hedge Accounting published 1995 will be reviewed and analysed. This term paper will start with a short review of the literature on corporate risk management and hedging policies and then move on to a description of the model developed by DeMarzo and Duffie and its rationale. Then, their findings and propositions will be presented followed by the conclusion. Literature Review Corporate Incentives for Hedging and Hedge accounting by P. M. DeMarzo and D. In 2008, Muller and Verschoor, published a study on 471 non financial European firrms from the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In this study they aim to investigate the informational effect of disclosing derivative positions. It is an interesting matter since European firms did not disclose any of this information until 1990. The study focuses on the usage of foreign exchange derivatives while also investigating the condition in which a firm decides to employ these instruments and to which extent. Even though they have found evidence of the firms using derivatives, their study presented weak results in terms of informative effect of derivative position disclosure. Model DeMarzo and Duffie build a model in their paper in order to illustrate the relationship between investors, accounting information and managers incentive. It involves other factors such as the choice between accounting and economic risk hedging, derivative position disclosure, firm reputation and volatility of managers future wages. To illustrate their interaction consider the following graph: Description of the Model DeMarzo and Duffie s model builds upon the one from Holmstrom and Ricart i Costa (1986). • 4. The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often only remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the process. These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire reason for war was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his emancipation proclamation. This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really credit this all to Lincoln? Was Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and destroy it with one single blow? African Americans are overlooked when talking about their emancipation but they were some of the strongest advocates for the end to slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the voters ... Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished (McPherson, p. 16). Massachusetts representatives opposed the compromise in Washington which proved the importance the free northern blacks in attaining freedom for all African Americans. After these failed attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the war many blacks ran across battle lines to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the fugitive slave law, they were returned back to their owners. This begins to change after prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise the government for avoiding slavery as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the name of all that is national, does our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The very stomach of the rebellion is the negro in the condition of a slave... The negro is the key of the situation the pivot upon which the whole rebellion turns... (McPherson, p. 39). He explains that not only is slavery is a moral issue that the war should be fought for, but he brings policy maker s attentions to the fact that the south s rebellion relies on slavery and without it would crumble. Douglass not only attacked the issue of slavery from the legislative side but also from a grassroots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mission Trip Narrative (The last suitcase was shoved into the back of the bus, and our next stop would be Winchester, Virginia.) My youth group and I were headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a mission trip. We would be involved with a program called P 2 mission, which partnered us with a local church, Calvary Christian. During the day we would be doing street outreach and during the night we would be hosting a Vacation Bible School. There was an urgency to have this church up and running because the community around it was crumbling. The church itself was located in a shanty town. Violence was on the rise and the community was in desperate need of a strong foundation. The corruption was spreading so rapidly that the church s basketball court was becoming a place where sexual predators would prey on young children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apparently, Philadelphia was in the midst of a heat wave, bringing in record highest of 105F. After such a long journey the feeling of failure was weighing upon us. • 6. Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to investigate the ... The diffusion of free water across a selectively permeable membrane, whether artificial or cellular, is called osmosis. The movement of water across cell membranes and the balance of water between the cell and its environment are crucial to organisms. ( Diffusion And Osmosis Difference And Comparison | Diffen ). Another potential error, which might have occurred, is the temperature fluctuation throughout the experiment. The rate of osmosis will be affected if the temperature in inconsistent, as more heat increases rate of osmosis and cooler temperature decreases rate of osmosis. Other sources of errors maybe that the cube were placed too closely to surface of the beaker so its ability to absorb the solutions because the closest sides to each other could obstruct the process of osmosis by blocking their exposure to the solution or of the varying time at which the cubes were placed in the ... Global enterprises are significantly more complex. Internal financial statements provide business leaders a method to evaluate business performance and support the decision making process. The income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows are important financial statements used by a firm s managers, owners, and lenders. Ratio Analysis provides a method to analyze these statements. Income Statement The income statement is an important tool for tracking cash flow in and out of an organization. This snapshot provides a clear understanding of where the company stands financially. Similar to the income statement, the balance sheet can be compared to previous balance sheets to understand key financial trends of the organization. The balance sheet, by definition, is associated with balancing assets, liabilities, and owner equity. Company assets should equal liabilities plus owner equity (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 359). This relationship, a balanced equation between assets, liabilities, and equity, provides the balance sheet its name. Some of the major assets claimed by a corporation include cash, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets (Melicher Norton, 2014, pp. 359 360) while major liabilities include accounts payable and various types of debt (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 360 361). Equity can include preferred stock, common stock, or retained earnings (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 361). Like the income statement, the balance sheet provides consistency on how financial information is organized and categorized. It provides a consistent method to view the information of a corporation over time and also allows for the comparison of financial information between companies. He liked to put on this big affirmative voice every time we he was trying to be serious. He looked at me with his arms crossed and his jaw locked. Waiting. Waiting for a verbal confirmation to come from my mouth. Yes. I d say in a monotone voice it became a second nature to say yes each time we were traveling. One of his brows would scrunch up, and a smirk would lay upon his mouth, knowing I hated verbally conforming to him. He would walk into his room and he would turn off the light. I would walk to mine as well, no words where said between us. That is how it was between us for many years, no real verbal love just mental or emotional. My father and I have always been on a mental and emotional relationship. He was not the normal father by any means, but we communicated in a way no one else could understand. To say we communicated in a way no one else could understand was correct. Almost all of our conversations are not said verbally. When I first started high school this was pretty evident, he was almost like any other father afraid that I would grow up too fast in high school. So he sat me down at the table, I was at one end he was at the other. You could hear our separate breathing. The clock began to tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. • 14. Character Sketch Of Tolstoy 2 Tolstoy s Character. Tolstoy was a multi dimensional man. In his long career he had been a teacher and educational theorist, a philosopher and social critic, a successful farmer and paterfamilias, a soldier, and a prophet. Above all, however, he was a great artist, and it is on his fiction that his fame at present rests. The literary career of this great writer of the Russian land (as his contemporary Turgenev called him) may be divided into three parts: the early period of literary apprenticeship (1851 63), the period of the great novels (1863 77), and the later period of preoccupation with the message of his religious teaching (1878 1910). The works of the early period may be regarded as the school in which Tolstoy taught himself to write. He isolated the themes and developed the literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His account focuses heavily on both sides tactical successes and failures from maneuvers in battle to how they handled occupied territory. Before the French surrender, Pierre s brush with execution becomes a cutting satire of French bureaucracy, which functions so badly that Pierre is nearly executed simply because a general was interrupted while he was deciding Pierre s sentence. However, the Russians also become objects of Tolstoy s critique. He depicts disorganization and a lack of professionalism on both sides. • 15. United States And The United Nations To what extent did Participation of the United States and the United Nations in Korea in late 1950s affect Cultural and Political Reconstruction? Danny Choi #003318 0046 Internal Assessment History of America HL Instructor: Leslie Grisham Spring 2015 Word Count: 1963 A. Plan of Investigation After a devastating civil war in Korea in early 1950s, South Korea faced a new, unprecedented phase in forming a constitutional government with assistance from the United States and the United Nations. Korea especially experienced several crucial reforms in politics and in society due to introduction of democracy and diffusion of Western culture. To determine the extent of contributions by the United States and the United Nations in late 1950s, the investigation will examine the nature and extent of three major commitments in reconstruction: injection of democracy into Korean government, reconstruction of politics, and societal reforms for modernization. Not only scholarly sources from databases, such as EBSCO and CLIO, but also books were used as references in order to determine the extent of commitments. The Coldest Winter by Halberstam and Grand Expectations by Patterson were mainly used to advocate American support, as well as Koreans perspective on modernization. B. • 19. Rama s Quest For Sita, Justice And For Dharma The tale of Sugriva in the Ramayana is crucial to Rama s quest for Sita, justice and for Dharma. The story serves a number of purposes within the Hindu epic such as giving the reader an understanding of the relationship between brothers, friends, and rulers as well as giving us a complicated but important look at a different side of Rama. Sugriva s story within the context of the Ramayana is quite different than the others because of a few controversial topics and questions that come up while reading it. All of them pertain to Rama and his development not only as the leader of the state but as a god. Rama, the epitome of virtue and valor, is the incarnation of the Hindu god, Vishnu. As this incarnate of the most widely praised Hindu god, there are certain qualities that are expected of him. These qualities are exemplified throughout the Ramayana with the exception of one or two acts within Sugriva s story. Rama s role in this tale seems to be a blemish on his otherwise virtuous and spotless history. I will first present a synopsis of this tale in order to build a foundation for my argument that Rama is actually justified in his actions with Sugriva, and towards Vali, which are so easily condemned as not god like. Sugriva is the brother of Vali, the ruler of the kingdom of Kishkindha. Kishkindha is the home of the Vanaras, a species of monkeys with human qualities who later aid Rama in retrieving his wife, Sita. The kingdom of Kishkindha was disturbed one day by the Mayavi, a ... It is very important to reflect on one s past and present leisure experiences because they reminds of the best and most fun memorable moments in our lives. We live in a very stressful society where we hardly have any fun time due to work, school, or just our very busy lives. During stressful times or difficult times reflecting on those memorable moments has a very positive impact on us. At the time I was about 14 years old and did not think thoroughly about my actions. I used to participate in shoplifting and vandalism as my leisure activities. Me and my friends would hang out after school and tag the walls around our school and would go into stores to steal snacks or drinks. At the time I did not realise how irresponsible and idiotic my actions were. At first when I began to tag it had a bad psychological effect on me because I would be paranoid I was going to get caught by the cops or someone of authority. The more I did it the less paranoid I felt but never felt completely safe and always had a negative psychological effect. Tagging the walls was a way to express how I felt at the time. Fallot is responsible for discovering that while, usually only one of the defects occurs, rarely, the cyanotic patient will present with two or more, then most common of the four defects being the deviated septum and the pulmonary artery stenosis. When a ventricular septum defect occurs, a mixing of oxygen rich and oxygen poor blood takes place. A ventricular septum defect is a hole in the septum, or the wall between the left and right chambers of the heart. This hole happens to be in between the lower two chambers, or ventricles. The left ventricle receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs, while the right ventricle houses the oxygen poor blood from the body. The purpose of the separation by the septum is to prevent a mixture of the blood. Therefore, as long as there is a defect preventing the separation, the heart will continue to pump a mixture of the blood to the rest of the body. This causes the cells of the body to not receive all of the required oxygen that it would normally obtain with a fully intact septum, thus causing the cyanotic, or blue, appearance of the patient. Why We Should Be A Fee On Plastic Bags There should be a fee on plastic bags Why should we have to continue to litter or use plastic so that we can just toss them out when we don t need them any more? That is why I think there should be a fee. When we litter, as shown in the video those small things are winding up in the lakes and oceans and killing wildlife. Also I believe that befor you get a chance to litter and hurt wildlife you should pay the price not them. We should stop because plastic is not biodegradable so it will be around for a while if it ends up in a body of water. If there they stay and float in the water than it is a better chance of it to pose a threat for other water animals. There should be a fee on plastic bags because plastic is not biodegradable, every square mile of the ocean has 46,000 pieces of plastic, and they have external cost. One important reason that there should be a fee on plastic bags are that they are biodegradable and that means that they are not going away anytime soon. According to creeklife.com 46,000 pieces of plastic are floating in any body of water. So that means that 23,000 animals are in danger. Ethics started to take shape when man began to question his actions and the reasons surrounding those actions. Am I doing the right thing? How do I know if it is the right? In a bid to explain the different ways in which individuals view morality, ethical theories evolved. There are five main theories; Intuitionism, Consequentialism, Deontological theory, Virtue ethics and Natural law. For the sake of this discussion, I will be focusing on Virtue Ethics. According to Aristotle, a virtue is a trait of mind and character that helps us achieve a good life . (Routledge, ND) Aristotle, like his predecessors, Socrates and Plato, ... This is because one is not prompted merely by duty to the state to do good but by virtues which makes his good actions innate. Aristotle believed that it is by acting in the right way over and over again that one becomes virtuous. For instance, it is by an individual s ability to make wise decisions that makes him prudent. If every individual is striving to do what is considered to be the right thing, the society becomes a better place. Who is a virtuous person? This is a question we should all ask ourselves. Aristotle identified virtues based on the characters appreciated by his society that time and studied the ways in which they could be acquired and improved. Therefore, it right to say that the term virtuous varies from society to society according to different cultures. • 30. Comparing Traditional Etl And How A Tool Like Apache Drill Introduction In today s database landscape, much of an organization s raw data is known to be housed in heterogeneous data stores. In order to merge this siloed data, it must be extracted, transformed, and loaded (ETL) into a common platform known as a Data Warehouse. Once in the Data Warehouse, the data can thus be analyzed using multidimensional data mining (OLAP). The major drawback of the ETL process, however, is time. It may take a company an entire day (24h) to even an entire business week (5 days) to have the Data Warehouse filled with the next period s data. However as each minute passes, this data which is yet to be loaded is becoming stale and less relevant to action. As such, big data time to value typically suffers. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the implications of traditional ETL and how a tool like Apache Drill can be used to pull down the barriers of ETL and allow data to be queried in place. Then, a discussion of what Apache Drill is and how it works will follow. Lastly, a small demo of Apache Drill will be performed on a large dataset to give the reader a better understanding of its application. ETL s Role in Data Warehousing For a typical organization today, sources of data may and most likely do come in many different formats. As an example, Han, et al. Liquid Dishwashing Detergent Dishwashing detergent pods are becoming more popular with homeowners because of how easy they are to use. They have the exact amount of detergent measured for your dishes, and they don t make a mess when putting them in. Unfortunately, the plastic pods don t dissolve completely, and only turn into crumbs of plastic. A septic tank needs all the waste to be organic in order for it to break it all down. That s why you should avoid using the plastic pods, and stick to liquid dishwashing detergent that will go straight down the drain without any plastic left behind. Another way to assist your septic tank when using a dishwasher is to make sure that it is using very hot water. The detergent will break down chemically much easier when the water is as hot as it can be. With that volunteer force there are rules and regulations that need to be followed because serving our country is a privilege. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy is claiming that even though it may be considered an infringement on human rights and freedom of expression, it protects the rights of the rest of the military and opens a loophole for gay men and women to serve in the armed forces. Contrary to popular opinion, all healthy individuals are selfish. Choosing to pursue the career of your choice is selfish. Choosing to have children #8212;or not to have children #8212;is selfish. Insisting on freedom and individual rights, rather than living under a dictatorship, is selfish. Indeed, even ordinary behaviors such as breathing, eating and avoiding an oncoming car when crossing the street are selfish acts. Ce rtainly, a selfish person wants to share his success with those he genuinely cares about #8212;his family, friends, or children (greater values). But why should he make sacrifices to individuals he does not know or care about (lesser values)? Selfish individuals give to charity #8212;if and when they choose. A selfish person is not stingy. He simply values the use of his own judgment in making decisions about how to spend his money, and when to give it away. Most of us assume that some selfishness is healthy, but too much selfishness will lead to loneliness and despair. This idea rests on an incorrect definition of selfishness. Selfishness means acting in one s rational self interest. By rational I mean that one can logically prove that an action is in one s self interest #8212;in the long run as well as the short run. For instance, Mr. Jones might think that it is in his self interest to cheat on his wife, in the short run. Jason also had his boat, the Argo, preserved by the citizens of Thessaly as a precious possession of the man who fought for their freedom. Despite this, both the story of Jason and the story of Theseus end with the hero dying a tragic death, outcast by the polis that they were willing to sacrifice so much for. The Role Of External Auditors On Public Financial Statements External auditors play important roles in delivering credibility of public financial statements to stakeholders outside of the audited firms (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, 2008). Published financial statements can be used by stakeholders as a basis for evaluating the financial position of firms, analyzing the performance of management, or making investment decisions (International Organization of Securities Commissions, 2002). In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best buddy and caregiver. During the beginning of the novel, Gloria was furious that her mother correlated Robbie to a machine, as Gloria thought the contrary to her mother. • 42. Refrigerator Mother Theory Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society. Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature, meaning alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim, Austrian born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autism was caused from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both cases, psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children not receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD. Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory.
