In the reading Experiential Learning: Experience as the Source of Learning and
Development by David Kolb (1984), he proposed that learning is a cycle process in
which individuals learn through their own experiences in life. This notion of the
learning cycle in which he was influenced by the ideas of three other theorists (Piaget,
Dewey, and Lewinian) called it Experiential LearningTheory. Kolb s theory was
based on how people learned by imputing information and processing the
information. Within this two abilities, there are four steps in which Kolb s believe
the learning process occurs. The first one he calls concrete experience , in which
one actually does the learning right then and now. The second one is reflective
observation when the learner thinks about what they did as a reflection of the
experience. The next step is the abstract conceptualization , where the learner
makes a generalization of the experience. The last step is active experimentation ,
where the learner puts to practice his/her understanding and adapts to it. The
learner does this by taking all the first three steps of the learning cycle and seeing
the results (pg. 30). Learning is a process in which individuals learn through trial
and error. This process can then be reused with our prior experience to strengthen

After crossing the Phlegethon, Dante the Pilgrim and Virgil cross into a dark forest
where there are no green leaves, but rather black in color, no smooth branches, but
twisted and entangled, no fruit, but thorns of poison bloomed instead (Dante, Inferno
186). The forest is depicted this way to give a picture of the barren nature of suicide.
Dante sees the Harpies nesting and tearing at the trees surrounding them, ....in
Greek mythology the Harpies are storm winds which act as ministers of Divine
vengeance, mysteriously snatching offenders away out of the visible world
(Dartmouth). The Harpies are a depiction of how those who commit suicide snatch
themselves away from the visible world. He hears wails of torment within the
woods all around him and Dante is confused by the noise and its origin. He first
thinks that the yelling comes from individuals hiding behind the trees, but learns
the truth once prompted by Virgil to break a branch. Dante tears off a piece of a
great thornbush. The emphasis on the size of the bush may be a way to signify the
importance of the man entrapped inside it, possibly like Medieval art in which
artists stress the importance of a specific character by making it larger (Dartmouth).
To Dante s surprise, blood began to spew out of the branch, and the tree starts to
speak directly to the Pilgrim. This tree, named Pier, committed suicide after being
accused of treason. Pier continues to swear on the new roots of this tree that

someone in public and they are nice, and you have no reason to judge the next
person, then they will be nice as well. Inductive inferences are an unconscious way to
process events in a way that supports positive morality; without inductive inferences,
people would be left to deal with only truths and although the truthis normally a good
thing, it may not be best for everyone to know. With inductive inferences, people can
live their lives making positive assumptions which put the mind at ease versus
knowing negative things that can ultimately lead to overstress.
The previous example of inductive inference relies on SPI because the inference is
based on your perception thus far of the scenario; if your perception of random
people is that they are nice, then per the SPI, you can only assume the next person
will be as well because it is the only information you have.
Based solely on experience, one cannot be justified in accepting the SPI because
they would not be making a real inference; their experiences do not necessarily
entail truth in their conclusion. One would also not be justified on the basis of
deductive inference because that method means that the conclusion is only factual
to the premises it was formed from; in other words, you can only assume everyone

According to KimberlГ© Crenshaw, the concept of intersectionality refers to the way
multiple oppressions particularly among the women are expressed. KimberlГ©
Crenshaw uses a scenario of traffic flow to describe intersectionality. She argues that
many times black women find themselves in an intersection as a result of race

especially from the middle class are treated as emotional and delicate compared to

Conformity and Passivity in 20th Century Literature Through the 20th century, war,
technology, and the capitalism had lasting effects on the overall conformity and
passivity of society. Within the novel Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and the play
Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, the general stagnation, inauthenticity, and
cultural malaise are made evident in the main characters actions. Nonetheless, we
are not given an answer regarding whether or not we can reform these flaws. The
two works cause us to reflect on our own human tendency to conform and be passive.
Virginia Woolf s Clarissa Dalloway, for example, is an upper class house wife that
spends her days buying flowers and throwing parties. Beckett s Vladimir and Estragon
literally wait for Godot throughout the play without ever moving from the road on
which they sit. Although Woolf s setting is much more detailed than Beckett s, they
both signify the circular life that the main characters in both texts cannot break free
from, leaving humanity trapped by passivity and conformity.
While answers to these cultural iterations of conformity and passivity cannot
directly be found in either Beckett s or Woolf s text, we can turn toward 20th
century philosophy for a start to this answer, specifically the work of Martin

Critique Essay In this critique of Julius Caesar s book, The Gallic War, I will be
discussing the purpose and accuracy (or in this case, inaccuracy) over his adventures
and military campaign against the Gallic tribes. There is a constant debate between
historians: The Myth of Certainty. History is all about interpretation and finding truth
out of subjectivity. History can often be lost in time as the firsthand accounts will

Hinduism is one of the earliest religons that is still practiced around the world. It
seeks to answer the same questions that Christianity does, but arrives at different
answers. It seeks truth, but fails to find it. Hinduism seeks to ask the question of
where do we come from? This question is not easily answerable. Because of the
nature of Hinduism, everything is in a cycle. There is no beginning and there is no
end. Hinduism also does not have a set of defined rules because of it s views on
