USABILITY ENGINEERING ASSIGNMENT 2
Evaluation of Automated Web Usability Tools
1. Web Site Accessibility Inspection
The world population is aging. Today over 20 percent of the population is over 55 and that
percentage is growing rapidly. With enlarged fonts that the browsers support, the middle distance
computer screen becomes much easier and less stressful to read. The Web pagemust be designed
for accessibility for those enlarged fonts to work correctly.
1.1 Information Provided by the Webtool
If the website is accessible that means that people with disabilities can use it. A blind person using
a screen reader or a talking browser can navigate the information and interact with it. A deaf person

All images need an alt attribute. If the alt attribute is not present in an image means that users who
cannot see the image will not understand what the image conveys.
We must make sure that the alt attribute value is a useful, concise, and a clear description of the
image. Since the webtool analysis the entire webpage for issues and points out the reason behind
the issue, it was very helpful and easy to understand.

1.4 Report in terms of Changes/Recommendations for a Website
Manager
The Report that is generated by the Tenon Webtool not only helps the user to understand the
accessibility issues but also helps the developer or manager of the website to make corrections to
improve the accessibility of the webpage. In the below Figure 4, we can see the option of
Recommended Fix which provides solution to the issues faced in the webpage
Figure 4 Recommended Fix
When the developer or the Website Manager clicks the link, it will display the code that must be
changed in the webpage to overcome the accessibility issue.
Figure 4 Solution to the Problem
As per the above Figure 4 if the attribute alt was added to the code it could solve the accessibility
issue and by this way, this tool is very helpful to the website managers and developers who are
creating or working on a webpage.

Research Paper On Guerrilla Marketing
As competitiveness between companies nowadays is every time more and more extended, brands
need to search for ways to make it stand out among the others. Guerilla marketing is one example of
this standing out goal.
Guerrilla marketing was originally a marketing strategy in which low cost, unconventional means
were used in a localized fashion to draw attention to an idea, product, or service. Today, guerrilla
marketing may also include promotion through a network of individuals, groups, or organizations
working to popularize a product or idea by use of such strategies as flash mobs, viral marketing
campaigns, or internet marketing.
The term guerrilla marketing is traced to guerrilla warfare, which employs atypical tactics to
achieve an objective.
Guerrilla marketing was initially used by small and medium sized businesses, but it is increasingly
being adopted by big business. This concept rises from a promotion that relies on imagination rather
than a big budget.
Why Guerilla Marketing? Marketing is such a huge topic, it has so many different utilities, but for
me guerilla is the most interesting one. We can find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Organic Farming Affects The Growth Of The Green Movement
Up until the 1920 s, most agriculture and farming was done organically. Farmers used products
that were naturally earth made to control the weeds, pest, and help the soil maintain its nutritional
value. There wasn t any chemicals or insecticide until the Second World War, when the researchers
discover that nerve gas was able to kill insects. The first insecticide was created in 1939 by Paul
Miller. Since then organic farminghas dramatically decreased and more insecticides has become
extremely popular. In the 1960 s and 1970 s the Be Natural approach started, people were becoming
more concerned with their health and environment. This started up the growth of the green
movement. The green movement helped conserve the environment and push farmers to go back to
organic farming. People have become concerned with their health due to all the chemicals now put
into farming. Organic Farming plays a huge role in health, government, and the environment. The
pros and cons of organic farming vary in health concerns. For a product to be completely organic
there must be no chemicals, insecticides, hormones, or any product that is not earth made being
used in the farming process. Nutrient value is usually a lot higher in organic products because there
is no chemical use. The micronutrients from the rich soil, without chemical use decrease health
risks. The chemicals used to help grow the plants and animals often take away some the nutritional
value. The plant or animals develops

Social Class Research Paper
Social life in Britain during the nineteenth century wascharacterized by different social classes: the
upper class, the middle class and the working class . The difference in social classes could be
distinguished by inequalities in wealth, education, working and living conditions .The classes lived
in separate areas and they observed different social customs (Mitchell, 2009:17).
First, the upper class was the least studied of all classes; people from the upper class were mostly
extremely wealthy and had numerous privileges unlike other classes (William, 2004:307). It
consisted of the aristocrats, ruling families, titled people, and religious hierarchs. Those people had
a fortune to be born with their high status and they did not have to make much effort to earn their
place in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the eldest son inherited the estate, he was expected to do something useful to sit in the
parliament (Mitchell, 2009:21).Women of upper class did not work, but it was expected for them to
stay at home until they get married. Traditionally, children from the upper class were brought up at
home by nanny for the first years of life. Then they would be schooled at home by private teachers.
Second, during the nineteenth century Britain knew an extraordinary growth in population. By the
beginning of the nineteenth century it was about ten and half millions and at the time ofthe 1901 it
had more than tripled to reach thirty seven millions (Ford, 1982:22). So, the enormous rise in
population led to the rapid growth of the middle class and forced a change in political balance. It
consisted of bankers, large shopkeepers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers and the clergy (Mitchell,

Vernier Gas Pressure Lab Report
In this lab, I worked with three other partners: Alexis Koch, Scott Webb, and Nicholas Coffey. In
the first portion of the lab, our goal was to discover the relationship between pressure and volume.
We began the experiment by plugging in the Vernier computer interface and the Vernier Gas
Pressure Sensor to the computer and started the Logger Pro software. We prepared the 20 milliliter
gassyringe to be placed into the Vernier Gas PressureSensor by putting approximately 12
milliliters of air into it. We did this to easily maneuver the syringe to different amounts of
volume. We began to collect data from the Logger Pro at various amounts of volume from 1 to
20 milliliters. We recorded 239.59, 227.50, 122.50, 100.50, 83.05, and 63.03 kPa at 0, 5, 10, 12, 15,
and 20 milliliters. From plugging my data into Microsoft Excel and making a graph, I was able to
conclude that volume and pressure have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According the my Pressure and Volume Relationship graph, as the volume goes up the pressure
goes down and vice versa. I know that this is true because of the negative slope of the equation of
my trendline which is y= 9.8009x + 239.3; additionally, my R2 value is 0.8994, which concludes
that the data we recorded is valid data.
The other portion of the lab was finding the relationship between pressure and temperature. We
started the experiment by constructing the device in which we would us to record the pressure at
different temperatures. We prepped for the experiment by turning on the hotplate and giving it time
to heat up, putting water into a large beaker, plugging the temperature Probe into the computer,
placing the rubber stopper into the Erlenmeyer flask, and connecting the pressure tube into the
rubber stopper. Next, we used a ring stand to lower the Erlenmeyer flask into the water

Integrating Data in a Heterogeneous and Real Time IT Environment
Summary and Evaluation
Technology has changed vastly in the last fifty years. These changes can be seen in many areas
such as airline reservation systems, automated teller machines, mobile phones, the internet, world
wide web and sensor networks. These sources generate a lot of data; heterogeneous data means
coming from different sources. Businesses have focused on automating their processes, and they
have realized that data integration is becoming complicated. Thus, it is important to understand how
to integrate and analyze data in real time.
In this webinar, speaker Colin White talks about the Integration of data into a heterogeneous
environment as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main goal of this real time data operation intelligence is to eliminate the data warehousing
latencies. By achieving this, the organization can make better decisions hence able to make more
rapid decisions.
The security factor in data warehousing is a main area to focus on. Colin discusses an example of
a company that was highly charged due to not using the fraud detecting system. Thus, the company
faced a $45 million fraud because of poor security. To clarify, two people took $45 Million from an
ATM Scheme; they used two card numbers to steal the money. However, the banks didn t detect the
fraud because their data integration system was inefficient.
Operational intelligence workflow is also discussed in detail with its 3 types of environments.
There are three types of environment; the first one is data warehouse environment, where the data
aren t changing. This is where the data is analyzed because it is at rest. The other two are
operating systems and real time analysis platforms, where we can make models, analyze data, and
make the analysis. The Analytics and alerts along with the recommendations are shaped by
analyzing Enterprise Data warehouses. Operational dashboard shows what is going on with our
business and what changes we should make. This output is sent to the users via nearby RT
operational dashboards.
Colin lists four options for data integration. There are four approaches of OI; the first one is
Enterprise DW which has a

The Image Of Blood In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah has been through just about everything a soldier in can experience while in war,
and he wants to show how war is not a good solution. If we do not take what he says into account,
loved ones may be taken from us and have to experience what he once did as a soldier. Or worse,
our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on
the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about
war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer.
He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently.
Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed
from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the
way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is
not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story
and the overall tone of the book.
In a village, at the time of a rebel attack, Beah sees a mother carrying her baby on her back. The
baby is covered in blood, and its mother is covered in her baby s blood. The baby plays a huge part
in imagery in A Long Way Gone. I see a mother carrying her dead child on her back (Beah pg. 13).
Beah sees this horrific image himself. The baby was killed while a war scene was occurring in the

The Politics of Obesity in America Essay
Although the sizism movement may have surfaced from the personal problem of an outspoken
person, this movement is a political issue that needs to be addressed accordingly. Obesity is not
only attributed to physiological but environmental factors as well. Americans are larger than they
were 40 years ago (i.e. weigh more, are fatter, and less fit). Approximately 55% of American adults
are overweight (Fattening 1). Many Americans resolve to lose weight, through do it yourself, non
clinical, or clinical means, yet there is no method that offers long term weight loss. America s
quest to increase self esteem and attractiveness has created profits for the weight loss industry
while 22.5% of Americans remain clinically obese (1).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite diets, physical activity, behavior modification, drug therapy, and gastric surgery, few
people reduce their body weight to a desirable or healthy level and fewer maintain weight loss
beyond two to three years (36). This makes America fat, overweight, and even obese. The issues
of size and weight are of social concern. Technology has sped up the pace of American living but
it has slowed down physical activity. Americans drive everywhere they go and try to park as
close as they can. What may have begun with the simple remote control has drawn America
from baseball fields and parks to the television and computer screens. America no longer surfs
the waves; they rather surf the net (Arzino 1). Phil Arzino writes, We re becoming a nation of
couch potatoes that s raising a generation of tater tots (1). This sedimentary lifestyle effects adults
as well as teenagers, toddlers, and infants. Our culture pressures Americans to eat unhealthy
through economics and convenience. For example, a commercial for a soft drink verses a
commercial for bottled water. The commercials for soft drinks are loud, bold, and exciting.
Vending machines charge from fifty to eighty five cents for a soft drink while bottled water ranges
from eight five cents to a dollar. A typical meal at a restaurant has 1000 calories, not counting the
appetizer or dessert (1). Many

Etruscans Thesis
The Etruscans were the early inhabitants of ancient Italy and Corsica. We know very little of
where this group of people has it s roots. It has been assumed to be lost in prehistory. Etruscan
civilization flourished around the sixth century BC. They were believed to be a seafaring people
who s society was primarily based on trade. Written language, religion, trade, art, architecture, and
agriculture we re all developed and included in Etruscan culture. The Romans were originally
known as subject people of the Etruscans. However, later on, the Romans conquered the Etruscans.
The Etruscans are well known for their Naval Prowess . They had colonies in Corsica, Sardinia,

Military Conscription (Persuasive Essay)
Military Conscription
Conscription, or more boldly the draft, has not been in place for some thirty years. While some
people cringe at the thought of reinstating the draft, others have different views. This short paper
will speak of those different views and the reasons why conscription of military service may not be
such a bad idea after all.
Having young men or even women drafted in the military would benefit everyone. The soldiers
would benefit from gaining the knowledge and on the job training for a career when they get out
and the militaries would not be suffering from the shortage of troops as they are today. It is a win
win situation!

You as the parent know you cannot afford to send all the children to college. Wouldn t it be nice
to be able to secure your children s future? If it were a requirement for men and women to join a
branch of the Armed Forces upon graduating from high school, their dreams could become
reality! Young people could receive training and money to go to college and fulfill those dreams.
If the draft were reinstated there would be more troops to support the current crisis in Iraq. There
would also be less turn around of the same troops redeploying to remote parts of the world. Many
soldiers are gone from their families for a year, only to return to remote parts of the world after
being home for a few months.
Think also, the possibility of forcing young criminals between the ages of 18 and 25 to join the
military. Maybe due to joining the military, these young criminals would be reformed into
honorable, self respecting individuals or become leaders of our great nation. In addition, if military
conscription were implemented, the tax payers would not have to pay for the juvenile criminals to
be locked up in maximum or minimum security centers.

Examples Of Personal Narrative
Personal Narrative It was the year of 2013, I was going into 4th grade and school was just a
month away. But it wasn t the 4th grade that I was looking forward to, because my family was
moving to a small town in Wisconsin named Mosinee. I grew up in a suburb just on the outskirts
of the great city known as Chicago. I loved it there, and wanted to live there for the rest of my
life; I guess my parents didn t exactly feel the same way. Little did I know that this move would
shape my personality and change me in many different ways. And ultimately, to make me a
better person as a whole. When I told my very few friends that I was moving, they always asked
why. I really didn t have an answer and didn t think about it that much. The day eventually came,
and we had all of our stuff was ready, my family was ready, but I wasn t. I couldn t imagine a life
without my normal friends and my normal school, and didn t realize that this move would be one of
the best things that has ever happened to me.
After we gave our hardest goodbye, I started my journey to my new house. I tried to stay
optimistic, but that was very hard because I new that I wasn t going to get another friend until

The Water Treatment Process
Surface waters necessitate water treatment before consumption to eliminate the risk present to the
consumer. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks.
The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious
diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used
to eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment
alternate disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly
employed techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects
on pathogens and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV
radiation lamps, which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems
had come into use a few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection
properties of chlorine. Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more
suitable due to its low cost of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan
areas.
The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which
include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and
disinfection. This is called the multiple barrier principle (Water Treatment, 1994).
The water treatment begins with the process of screening,

Paganism In Beowulf
В¬By definition, a Pagan is a person who has religious beliefs other than those of the main world
religion. The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with
enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until
a Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects
collide with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Beowulfwas originally told with only Pagan
elements. In the article The Essential Pagan Elements in Beowulf , it explains Pagan elements
included in the story such as dragons and magic. We do not hear anything about saints, angels, or
any particular dogmatic points (Moorman). In the Pagan religionwhen a hero or important... Show

Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith.
However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of
Satan. While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in
its lair, the Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf
in the Christian faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins
(hell). Pagans view Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he
may face. For example of Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody
else could. His strength is matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and
came out from the tomb he was buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and
Danes. Christ made peace with everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The
biggest comparison between Beowulf and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other
people. According to Christian belief, Christ was crucified to save everyone from death.
Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone else and to calm his soul from the
loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was carrying the cross and they
came to help him. Just like in Beowulf how Wiglaf is Beowulf s companion because he fights by
his side through thick and thin.

Muslim Discrimination In America
I think that Muslim discrimination in America got worse, but some things have to get worse to get
better. Historically and presently, when Muslims travel to the United States or live in the US they
face discrimination because of a small number of Islamic extremists take their religion too far.
Historically there have been attacks on America that caused the discrimination. Currently in the US
there have been some attacks by extremists and radical terrorists. The islamic terrorists are trying to
protect their religion from the United Statesof America. In the future, I think there will still be
discrimination against Muslimpeople. Further in the future there could be a time when there is very
minimal discrimination against Muslims.

The Adaptive Voice
The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions.
Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of
who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she
moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have
both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of
knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies
the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the
Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life
style and according to Susan Blackmores essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to
learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well;
building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices
we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our
voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you
pick up a new memeit is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says
flexibility is something that requires work if it is to be maintained (Smith 248). This is something
that can be said about all forms of learning. Whether it is learning a

Sports In Sports Essay
Participating in sports from my youth years till graduating high school has had a contribution to
my outlook on the people surrounding me in daily life. Besides sport being fun and providing
exercise it has some not as obvious effects. Through sport you learn how to communicate and
work together as a team to strive for a set goal. Communication and team collaboration is an
important characteristic for anyone no matter their career field. For me, my sport experiences
have taught me that sometimes you have to find a way to work with people that you do not
necessarily like. It is unavoidable to always have only people you get along with on your team
whether it is a sports team or a team at a job. Sport teaches many new lessons to children which
initially are hard to understand but years later you look back and have that oh that is why moment.
I have participated in soccer, baseball, tennis and golf between youth and graduating from high

that I wanted to try and improve my skills. I only participated in tennis for one year as I did not
enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would. From tennis I only remember negative memories of being
exhausted from running around the tennis courts as a warm up during practice. I learned from this
experience that although I enjoy the aspect of tennis, tennis is to

An Analysis Of Joyas Voladoras By Brian Doyle
Brian Doyle s short story Joyas Voladoras , named after a species of hummingbird, focuses on
hearts. The story first details how hummingbird hearts are quick and necessary for flight, but
also that they are so prone to damage and scarring. It then points out the size of the whale s heart,
likening it to a room. Doyle goes on to compare the hearts of different organisms, noting that all
organisms are always moving, swirling, changing in an eternal dance. Finally, he explains that
even though we try to harden our hearts against the pain we feel, to stop others from seeing inside
of us, it is impossible, because our hearts will open at even the smallest emotional instance. The
author suggests that all living beings have a sense of vulnerability to emotions and pain because of
their hearts, uniting all creatures despite their vast differences. First analyzing the hummingbird,
Doyle writes, A hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size
of a pencil eraser... their hearts beating faster that we could clearly hear if we pressed our
elephantine ears to their infinitesimal chests, emphasizing the diminutive status as well as the rapid
beat of the hummingbird s heart. Writing Their hearts are stripped to the skin for the war against
gravity and inertia, the mad search for food, the insane idea of flight. The price... is a life closer to
death; they suffer more heart attacks and aneurysms and ruptures than any other living creature,

Finally, the essay will conclude by suggesting several strategies or solutions which can be
practically used to combat the issues that are being faced. What are the Emerging Market
Multinationals?
Emerging market multinationals are companies with operation bases in at least one other country
from their home bases (West, 2015). They have varied ownership models with the national or local
governments often being part owners of the company as in the case of resource or energy
companies. Family or private ownership is also a popular ownership model. They are also multi
industrial in nature with the company operating multiple sectors in the home country and
internationalizing in only one or two of these (West, 2015).
Emerging Market Multinationals mainly emerged because domestic companies in developed
countries saw a shift in growth pattern once they reached the peak of their economic curve. Growth
slowed down and even became stagnant. This was primarily because the markets in the developed
countries had already reached their optimum levels. On the other hand, this was the period of time
when developing countries began to experience rapid economic growth. This prompted companies
to look towards the potential and resources of these emerging markets as their source of salvation
and develop

better understanding of the magnitude and complexity of genocide will come to light by
examining these events which served as warning signs that the world stood by and allowed to
happen. Most importantly, while many agree that genocide should never have happened to any
race, by breaking down genocide from its many elements and events, valuable knowledge and
understanding will result on how not to let it happen again.
To begin, Anti Semitism was a huge thing with an enormous impact on all of these events. Anti
Semitism was a pretty common phenomenon around the holocaust era, but it could have never
been made clearer how much dislike the Germans had for the Jews than by having the holocaust.
The holocaust was the most extreme method of showing contempt toward a person. The tragic
point is that they became convinced and determined they were doing all of Germany a favor by
getting rid of the Jews because they were just another flaw in the country; and Germans came to
believe that. In his first Anti Semitic writing of 1919, Hitler demonstrated this desire to rid
Germany of the Jews, The ultimate objective [of such legislation] must, however, be the
irrevocable removal of the Jews

Lean Manufacturing And Six Sigma
Q3. 1.Introduction In today s world, majority of the enterprises are driven through customers need
whose primary emphasis is on quality. Hence there is a need for continuous process improvement to
satisfy the need of the customers. Lean Manufacturing and Six sigma approach has been applied in
diverse manufacturing processes which in turn has contributed significantly in achieving
continuous improvements. By utilizing these tools, organizations focus on maximizing their
bottom line successes apart from improving their top line growth. However, many organizations

applied in every other aspect of the supply chain. Figure 1: Lean Enterprise [2] Figure 1 provides
a conceptual framework of lean principles across the supply chain of the enterprise thereby
yielding value to the customer. Lean thinking helps in providing flexibility to the needs of the
customer. Emphasis is also put on organization of workplace which leads to more simplified
work environment. Ease of access in the workplace and good ergonomic designs are some of the
by products of lean thinking methodology. Lean enterprises are more adaptable to changing
market trends and also provide prompt delivery to products and services. [3] 2.2 Six sigma
Approach Six sigma is considered as a structured approach to solving problems. It provides a
statistical analysis to quality improvement in production processes. There are primarily five phases
in this approach namely: define measure, analyze, improve and control, widely mentioned as
DMAIC approach. The pattern of DMAIC ensures that the projects are focused on current problem

An Empire for Slavery Book Essay
Randolph B. Campbell s An Empire for Slavery: The Peculiar Institution in Texas provides in an
in depth look at the slavery existence in the state of Texas. He provides the factors that explain
the establishment and growth of slavery. Campbell also explains the economic and legal
institution of Texas, and explores the physical and psychological effects of both slaves and their
masters prior to the Civil War, during, and after emancipation. Campbell provides clear detail of
slaverys impact on Texas slaveholders and society, and how the Civil war affected slavery prior
to its destruction. Slavery came to Texas from Anglo American settlers and gained a foothold
during the colonial period. For example, Galveston Bay was a big slave trading... Show more

He provides unique insight and depth which is hard to refute because of the laws that allowed
slavery to exist. In January of 1824, Stephan F. Austin issued the Criminal Regulations, which
provided Texas with its first slave code. The Criminal Regulations seemed to be the basis for the
first codified slave code in 1836. The code involved five essential principles which allowed for
slavery to exist in Texas. These principles included the right to own slaves, criminal conduct
regarding slaves, the law afforded to the slaves, slave escapees, and free blacks respectively.
With the Constitution of 1845, slave law had matured into an extensive system dedicated to the
management of slavery. The extent of the laws by 1845 toward slavery were so vast it is hard to
dispute the point that slavery was not a vital aspect in Texan life. Under the law, slaves were still
afforded certain privileges that would allow them to gain a measure of responsibility. Campbell
brings up the many responsibilities that slaves in Texas have in chapter 6. He states that a vast
majority of slaves work in the fields, while around 30% of the slave population work in the
towns and as cooks and butlers. He also brings up several instances where skilled slaves hired
themselves out to make money using their skills as carpenters or blacksmiths. Campbell s provides
a unique look into slavery that most author s do not convey. Slavery in Texas, while terrible,

East Of Eden Theme Essay
East of Eden was published in 1952 by renowned American author, John Steinbeck. Claimed by
many to be one of his greatest novels, this piece tells a story of tragedy spanning two generations
of two different families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons. Steinbeck himself grew up in the main
setting of the book, the Salinas Valley in California. He paints a beautiful picture of the valley,
however it is stained with the turmoil the book entails. Meanwhile many themes can be drawn
from East of Eden, one of the most notable ones is the battle of good versus evil. This theme is
possibly the most interesting because it is one of the only ones that carries on throughout the
entirety of the book, and can be related to almost any character. When we look at the dynamic
character of Caleb Trask, or the opposition between Abra and Cathy, or even the word timshel , it
is clear that good steers the story, and is what ultimately wins. One of the main plots of East of
Eden that proves good wins is the dynamic change Caleb Cal Trask goes through. From the very
moment Cal is brought into the book he is destined to be exactly like his uncle, Charles Trask, and

It is a novel that exemplifies what it means for good to win against evil. There are multiple
reasons that support this statement. Quite possibly the most notable being the dynamic
character, Cal Trask, proves that people truly can change and good can win with his drastic
change from part one to part three. Meanwhile Abra and Cathy s allusion to good versus evil is a
more specific example that good wins, or such a small word as timshel that can impact the
theme so greatly. Thus, East of Eden can be seen as a tragedy but all in all is a book that depicts
the image of good winning in the face of evil. Many years later, East of Eden remains to show
generations that even in the saddest of stories, evil doesn t always

corporation.
Split Off: The process whereby a parent corporation organizes a subsidiary corporation to which it

The DP is a broad brush development vision for the city. DP is a dynamic document which then is

for preparation of such city level spatial plan laid out under their respective Town Planning Acts
which in turn provides for city level facilities and amenities. City level infrastructures are marked
and planned at DP level while neighbourhood facilities are carved out at neighbourhood level
planning. In GTPUDA 1976 there are provisions for providing neighbourhood level social
infrastructure under the TPS mechanism. Town planning scheme is used very effectively and
successively across Gujarat. It has proven that TPS mechanism is best tool if it is used at its
fullest for generating neighbourhood level social infrastructure. From the case study of AUDA,

for providing infrastructure which can serve city level facility. At places where such facilities are

Lusitania
It was 2:10 p.m. on May 7, 1915. Leslie Morton, a lookout on the Lusitania, screamed,
quot;Torpedoes coming on the starboard side. quot; Two explosions followed.
Within 18 minutes the huge liner, once the largest ever built, sank to the bottom of the Celtic Sea.
1,195 out of the 1,959 people aboard died. Walther
Schwieger, commander of the German submarine U 20, who had fired a single torpedo 750 yards
away from the ship, later called it the most horrible sight he had ever seen.
The Lusitania entered service between Liverpool and New York on September
7, 1907. Funded by the British Admiralty, the Lusitania, built by the Cunard
Steamship Company, was required to double as an auxiliary cruiser in case of war.

About a week before the voyage, the New York German community tried to run an ad warning
about the trans Atlantic voyage. But the duty officer at the State department did not approve, so no
ads were placed. Later George Vierick, who was in charge of placing the ads, convinced William
Jennings Bryan, Secretary of
State, that on all but one of the Lusitania s voyages it carried war materials.
Bryan had an advertisement run the morning of departure of May 1, 1915. British
Naval Intelligence discovered the ad and gave orders to look out for U boats, predicting a trap.
Turner, Captain of the Lusitania, was told that he would rendezvous with the cruiser Juno about 40
miles west of the southern tip of
Ireland. German Intelligence thought that the U boat lookout order meant that large vessels would
be leaving England. U 20 and U 30 were immediately sent to the British Channel and southern Irish
waters(Simpson 66 69).
On May 5, Winston Churchill attended a meeting concerning the Lusitania and the U 20. They
concluded that Juno would need an escort, so assistance would be given, most likely the destroyer
Flotilla. But this did not happen. For unknown reasons, Juno was recalled to Queenstown, and no
destroyers were sent(Simpson 70).
On May 5 and 6 three ships were sunk by the U 20, the last without warning.
Alfred Booth, Chairman of Cunard, read about this and sent a message to Captain
Turner diverting the Lusitania to Queenstown. Schwieger spotted the ship on May

Multicultural Counseling Critique Essay
Multicultural Counseling Critique: Counseling Utilization by Ethnic Minority College Students
Although the practice of counseling has evolved considerably since its inception, the concept of
multicultural competence remains novel. Engrossed in the lives of every clinician are underlined
biases and prejudices that act as filters in which every interaction with a clients is affected. Current
research on the topic of multicultural counseling has shown that although multicultural awareness
is on the rise there is still a remarkable gap in research regarding the use of counseling service and
outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Insights such as these have
encouraged researchers to investigate multicultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another is the potential stigma associated with the use of mental health services. Closely
associated with this stigma is the belief in seeking help from religious leaders, such as pastors, and
or priest. The authors suggest that a combination of these factors coupled with a lack of clinician
multicultural awareness, serves as a powerful force keeping individuals of ethnic and racial
backgrounds from utilizing counseling services (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Due to these factors
the researchers hypothesized that ethnic and racial minority participation in counseling services will
be lower than that of their Caucasian counterparts. Furthermore they suggest that ethnic and racial
minorities will present for counseling services with increased severity of symptomatology. Lastly
researchers propose that Caucasians students will report more positive outcomes than minority
students even when severity and number of session are controlled.
In order to test their hypothesis researchers gathered students who attended colleges that are part of
the Research Consortium of Counseling and Psychological Services, a collection of state run
institutions focused on furthering the efforts of university research. One thousand one hundred and

The Rationalization of the South African Society
Modernity revolves around the rational application of scientific method to certain aspects of life.
This could be done through the development of governmental regulations, bureaucratic observation,
and the erosion of traditional values (Beck, Lash Giddens, 1997). New thought processes and the
increase in the application medicine and technology have played important roles in the concept of
rationalism (Bilton et al, 2002). The character of modern society could be defined by rationalism
(Macionis Plummer, 2012: 123); this can be clearly seen in the South African rational social
organization context from hunter gatherer days to modern day society. An example of this would
be how the essence of time has changed within society. In traditional hunter gatherer societies, like
The San and Zulu clans , before technological inventions such as the clock was introduced, people
used to base their time on the sun and moon s position as well as seasons to allocate their time in
regions and activities in order to conduct their livelihood (South Africa African Religions, 1996).
However, in modern day society, owing to the clock invention, scheduled activities/events are
precisely on the hour and minute (Macionis Plummer, 2012: 123). Thus, modern society has
allowed individuals to be more efficient, by limiting time constraints through technology and
infrastructure and has greatly improved the livelihoods of people, owing to better healthcare and
institutions which affectively address

be at first seem. However, I wonder if perhaps Woolf did not really hit the full power of her
thesis. She recognized the necessity of the writer s financial independence to the birth of great

Distillation Lab Report Discussion
Abstract:
Distillation is a technique used to purify and separate substances based on the different chemical
properties of each substance. By heating the mixture, vaporizing, and condensing the vapor, the
resulting substance with lower boiling point can be then collected and analyzed. In this lab two
type of distillation were performed the simple and the fractional distillations. In the simple
distillation, the resulting vapors immediately go through into the condenser that condenses the
compound by cooling it. In the fractional distillation, the fractionating column provides theoretical

only one phase, vaporization and then condensing, the process looks steady. The temperature almost
rises at the first boiling point. At this point the methanol materials starts to boil off and the volume
distillate increases. The temperature remained constant. As the last portion of the methanol boils

efficient than the simple one. Using the mole percent composition for each type of distillation, the

How Technology Has Impacted The Way Cities Operate
The use of IoT has already impacted the way cities operate. The term smart cities, is used to
describe a city that possesses an IoT oriented infrastructure. In a smart city, the digital technologies
translate into better public services for inhabitants and better use of resources while reducing
environmental impacts . [3] For a smart cityto be feasible, IoT must provide intelligence,
interconnection, and instrumentation. Wi Fi enabled smart devices and low cost sensors are
components of the smart cityand allow devices a way to communicate with the public via the
internet. These devices collect real time data, which not only improves the lives of residents, but
transforms several sectors of public service as well. Transportation has been revolutionized by
smart traffic management systems which gather data from an array of magnetic road sensors and
hundreds of cameras. The result is less delay at major stop lights and increased travel speeds,
because enabled drivers can see which lights are busy and monitor these areas for other vehicles
and pedestrians. To lower traffic and driver search times for parking spots, parking sensors that
detect parking spaces for drivers are installed in major cities. Street lights use a method of energy
saving known as adaptive lighting which enables them to determine their brightness setting,
appropriate for a given situation. The smart city solution to conserving energy is through smart
girds. A smart grid serves several energy management

All you need to win is conviction, intelligence, and ambition. From then on, I interpreted reading

I remember when visuals were used to represent psychiatric treatment consisted of a man wearing
black horn rimmed glasses, sitting in a high back arm chair, with a pen and tablet in his hands to
take notes on the session with the June Cleaver looking woman laying on :the couch, a small wind

use of psychoactive drugs, driven largely by the machinations of the pharmaceutical industry:
Psychiatry once subscribed to the Freudian view that mental illness came from roots in unconscious
conflicts (usually appearing in adolescence) that affected the mind as though it were separate from
the brain. With the introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950s, and sharply accelerating in the
1980s, it was then that the psychiatric focus shifted to the brain. Psychiatrists began to refer to
themselves as psycho pharmacologists, and became far less interested in exploring the life stories
of their patients and more interested in treating their patients with drugs. The psychiatric profession
became optimistic that the use of psychoactive drugs would be beneficial with the new biological
model that psychiatry adopted. Their optimism began to fade as serious side effects of the drugs

Spread Of Islamic Ethics
Islamic standards of moral conduct are specified in the shari ah. Muslims practice this by
reciting the first three verses of the al Fatihah, which is the opening to the Qur an. Islamic ethics
is characterized as the straight path of kindness that leads to the source of life. The path is lived

discipline to fasting, and the Hajj, which is a pilgrimage to Mecca (p. 87). In the Zakat, Muslims

Habits of the Mind
Habits of Mind The habits of mind might better be termed the habits of a perfected mind since
most have not acquired all of these habits. The two selected for this paper are persistence and
precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This
paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is
distracted from them. Persistence and precision are habits of mindthat require many of the same
skills to acquire. Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick,
2008). It is the ability to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection
of the effort. People who have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but
press on until they are successful. Having precision of language and thought is striving to
communicate accurately in both written and oral form, taking care to use precise language;
defining terms; and using correct names, labels and analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability
is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is communicating thoughts clearly so that they

What Are Pool Pockets
Pool Pockets For this problem we were given a modified pool table, in which there are only
corner pockets, no side pockets. We imagine there is a ball starting in the bottom left corner and
shooting at a 45 degree angle and bouncing off the side of the table until it rolls into a hole. The
question that I am trying to answer however is if I can predict how many times the ball will hit a
wall before landing in a pocket and also which pocket it will land in. During this problem a
learned many different things like where the ball would roll and how many rebounds it would
take to roll in a pocket for any given dimension of pool table. I did not however come up with a
super formula for the problem but a did find some pretty interesting rules. One

Da Vinci Code Contradictions
In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s
historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The
controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but
professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective
components of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such
as whether Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims
contradict each other.
While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find
a few contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine
the novel s overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and
probability of the rest of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is
uncovering hidden meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci. Brown uses three of
Da Vinci s most well known works of art The Vitruvian Man, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper
as realistic pieces of evidence to ground the probability of his ... Show more content on

In the novel, Da Vinci is portrayed as a mysterious man with many obscure personality traits and
characteristics. It is due to Da Vinci s success as a painter that he gains worldwide fame, and it is
in these world famous paintings that he, according to Brown, hides pagan symbols about the real
Holy Grail. This may come across as shocking to most Christians, yet Brown claims Da Vinci held a
reputation of practicing spiritual hypocrisy. If Da Vinci had a reputation of incorporating heretical
elements into his Christian artwork, then it would make little sense that he found such great
success because the Church targeted heretics in the

The Influence Of Art On American Society
The statement of when artists feel issues in strong and personal way, or that they have something to
say about the human condition, they can produce powerful, disturbing and intuitive artworks is true
because in many situations, art has influence people to make drastic changes. Artists, in some cases
have a stronger influence on people rather that someone making a speech as art involves techniques
such as colour, the type of medium and the location in which it was painted. The article, Influence
of Art on American Society and the artist Shepard Fairey correspond with this statement through
facts and artworks. The Influence of Art on American Society article discusses multiple essays

Essay On Collaborative Law
Ending a relationship is rarely a pleasant experience. Many people envision a divorce as being one
of the worst things they could have to endure. Splitting up property, agreeing to child custody and
other aspects of ending a marriage can be traumatic.
However, there is a simpler way. Collaborative law can settle familylegal issues such as divorce,
without the need to go to court. Here is an explanation of what collaboration is and how it can be
better than a traditional divorce.
Collaboration Is Not Mediation
Frequently, collaboration and mediation are thought to mean the same thing in divorce. They are
not. Mediation is an attempt to reach a settlement agreement prior to a divorce going to trial. It may
prove successful, but the cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collaborative law is a voluntary process that provides a venue to reach an amiable settlement. It
involves a binding agreement contract that both parties consent to as a way to avoid a time
consuming and costly divorce.
Why Collaborative Law Might Be Right for You
The thought of a divorce hearing can create an unparalleled level of anxiousness. Collaborative
law by its nature is designed to reduce the level of anxiety surrounding a divorce. There are three
basic reasons why using collaboration may be right for your situation.
Informal and Relaxed Setting
One of the most appealing aspects of collaborative law is that it can avoid the necessity of going to
a courtroom. While there may be a number of meetings between both parties and their legal
representation, each can take place in an informal, relaxed environment.
By avoiding the stressful litigation process, collaborative law spare families the inherent pressure of
courtroom divorce.
The Help of Outside Professionals
Unlike an official divorce proceeding, collaborative law allows outside professionals to help with
the process. They do not have to be called to testify. Each will be asked to attend a joint session to
provide insightful

  • 4. Research Paper On Guerrilla Marketing As competitiveness between companies nowadays is every time more and more extended, brands need to search for ways to make it stand out among the others. Guerilla marketing is one example of this standing out goal. Guerrilla marketing was originally a marketing strategy in which low cost, unconventional means were used in a localized fashion to draw attention to an idea, product, or service. Today, guerrilla marketing may also include promotion through a network of individuals, groups, or organizations working to popularize a product or idea by use of such strategies as flash mobs, viral marketing campaigns, or internet marketing. The term guerrilla marketing is traced to guerrilla warfare, which employs atypical tactics to achieve an objective. Guerrilla marketing was initially used by small and medium sized businesses, but it is increasingly being adopted by big business. This concept rises from a promotion that relies on imagination rather than a big budget. Why Guerilla Marketing? Marketing is such a huge topic, it has so many different utilities, but for me guerilla is the most interesting one. We can find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. How Organic Farming Affects The Growth Of The Green Movement Up until the 1920 s, most agriculture and farming was done organically. Farmers used products that were naturally earth made to control the weeds, pest, and help the soil maintain its nutritional value. There wasn t any chemicals or insecticide until the Second World War, when the researchers discover that nerve gas was able to kill insects. The first insecticide was created in 1939 by Paul Miller. Since then organic farminghas dramatically decreased and more insecticides has become extremely popular. In the 1960 s and 1970 s the Be Natural approach started, people were becoming more concerned with their health and environment. This started up the growth of the green movement. The green movement helped conserve the environment and push farmers to go back to organic farming. People have become concerned with their health due to all the chemicals now put into farming. Organic Farming plays a huge role in health, government, and the environment. The pros and cons of organic farming vary in health concerns. For a product to be completely organic there must be no chemicals, insecticides, hormones, or any product that is not earth made being used in the farming process. Nutrient value is usually a lot higher in organic products because there is no chemical use. The micronutrients from the rich soil, without chemical use decrease health risks. The chemicals used to help grow the plants and animals often take away some the nutritional value. The plant or animals develops ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Social Class Research Paper Social life in Britain during the nineteenth century wascharacterized by different social classes: the upper class, the middle class and the working class . The difference in social classes could be distinguished by inequalities in wealth, education, working and living conditions .The classes lived in separate areas and they observed different social customs (Mitchell, 2009:17). First, the upper class was the least studied of all classes; people from the upper class were mostly extremely wealthy and had numerous privileges unlike other classes (William, 2004:307). It consisted of the aristocrats, ruling families, titled people, and religious hierarchs. Those people had a fortune to be born with their high status and they did not have to make much effort to earn their place in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditionally, children from the upper class were brought up at home by nanny for the first years of life. Then they would be schooled at home by private teachers. Second, during the nineteenth century Britain knew an extraordinary growth in population. By the beginning of the nineteenth century it was about ten and half millions and at the time ofthe 1901 it had more than tripled to reach thirty seven millions (Ford, 1982:22). So, the enormous rise in population led to the rapid growth of the middle class and forced a change in political balance. • 7. Vernier Gas Pressure Lab Report In this lab, I worked with three other partners: Alexis Koch, Scott Webb, and Nicholas Coffey. In the first portion of the lab, our goal was to discover the relationship between pressure and volume. We began the experiment by plugging in the Vernier computer interface and the Vernier Gas Pressure Sensor to the computer and started the Logger Pro software. We prepared the 20 milliliter gassyringe to be placed into the Vernier Gas PressureSensor by putting approximately 12 milliliters of air into it. We did this to easily maneuver the syringe to different amounts of volume. We began to collect data from the Logger Pro at various amounts of volume from 1 to 20 milliliters. We recorded 239.59, 227.50, 122.50, 100.50, 83.05, and 63.03 kPa at 0, 5, 10, 12, 15, and 20 milliliters. The other portion of the lab was finding the relationship between pressure and temperature. We started the experiment by constructing the device in which we would us to record the pressure at different temperatures. We prepped for the experiment by turning on the hotplate and giving it time to heat up, putting water into a large beaker, plugging the temperature Probe into the computer, placing the rubber stopper into the Erlenmeyer flask, and connecting the pressure tube into the rubber stopper. Webinars Reports Integrating Data in a Heterogeneous and Real Time IT Environment Summary and Evaluation Technology has changed vastly in the last fifty years. These changes can be seen in many areas such as airline reservation systems, automated teller machines, mobile phones, the internet, world wide web and sensor networks. These sources generate a lot of data; heterogeneous data means coming from different sources. Businesses have focused on automating their processes, and they have realized that data integration is becoming complicated. Thus, it is important to understand how to integrate and analyze data in real time. By achieving this, the organization can make better decisions hence able to make more rapid decisions. The security factor in data warehousing is a main area to focus on. Colin discusses an example of a company that was highly charged due to not using the fraud detecting system. Thus, the company faced a $45 million fraud because of poor security. To clarify, two people took $45 Million from an ATM Scheme; they used two card numbers to steal the money. However, the banks didn t detect the fraud because their data integration system was inefficient. Operational intelligence workflow is also discussed in detail with its 3 types of environments. There are three types of environment; the first one is data warehouse environment, where the data aren t changing. This is where the data is analyzed because it is at rest. The other two are operating systems and real time analysis platforms, where we can make models, analyze data, and make the analysis. The Analytics and alerts along with the recommendations are shaped by analyzing Enterprise Data warehouses. • 9. The Image Of Blood In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah Ishmael Beah has been through just about everything a soldier in can experience while in war, and he wants to show how war is not a good solution. If we do not take what he says into account, loved ones may be taken from us and have to experience what he once did as a soldier. Or worse, our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer. He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently. Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story and the overall tone of the book. In a village, at the time of a rebel attack, Beah sees a mother carrying her baby on her back. The baby is covered in blood, and its mother is covered in her baby s blood. The baby plays a huge part in imagery in A Long Way Gone. I see a mother carrying her dead child on her back (Beah pg. 13). Beah sees this horrific image himself. • 10. The Politics of Obesity in America Essay Although the sizism movement may have surfaced from the personal problem of an outspoken person, this movement is a political issue that needs to be addressed accordingly. Obesity is not only attributed to physiological but environmental factors as well. Americans are larger than they were 40 years ago (i.e. weigh more, are fatter, and less fit). Approximately 55% of American adults are overweight (Fattening 1). Many Americans resolve to lose weight, through do it yourself, non clinical, or clinical means, yet there is no method that offers long term weight loss. America s quest to increase self esteem and attractiveness has created profits for the weight loss industry while 22.5% of Americans remain clinically obese (1).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite diets, physical activity, behavior modification, drug therapy, and gastric surgery, few people reduce their body weight to a desirable or healthy level and fewer maintain weight loss beyond two to three years (36). This makes America fat, overweight, and even obese. The issues of size and weight are of social concern. Technology has sped up the pace of American living but it has slowed down physical activity. Americans drive everywhere they go and try to park as close as they can. What may have begun with the simple remote control has drawn America from baseball fields and parks to the television and computer screens. America no longer surfs the waves; they rather surf the net (Arzino 1). Phil Arzino writes, We re becoming a nation of couch potatoes that s raising a generation of tater tots (1). This sedimentary lifestyle effects adults as well as teenagers, toddlers, and infants. Our culture pressures Americans to eat unhealthy through economics and convenience. For example, a commercial for a soft drink verses a commercial for bottled water. The commercials for soft drinks are loud, bold, and exciting. Vending machines charge from fifty to eighty five cents for a soft drink while bottled water ranges from eight five cents to a dollar. A typical meal at a restaurant has 1000 calories, not counting the appetizer or dessert (1). Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Military Conscription (Persuasive Essay) Military Conscription Conscription, or more boldly the draft, has not been in place for some thirty years. While some people cringe at the thought of reinstating the draft, others have different views. This short paper will speak of those different views and the reasons why conscription of military service may not be such a bad idea after all. Having young men or even women drafted in the military would benefit everyone. The soldiers would benefit from gaining the knowledge and on the job training for a career when they get out and the militaries would not be suffering from the shortage of troops as they are today. Young people could receive training and money to go to college and fulfill those dreams. If the draft were reinstated there would be more troops to support the current crisis in Iraq. There would also be less turn around of the same troops redeploying to remote parts of the world. Many soldiers are gone from their families for a year, only to return to remote parts of the world after being home for a few months. Think also, the possibility of forcing young criminals between the ages of 18 and 25 to join the military. Maybe due to joining the military, these young criminals would be reformed into honorable, self respecting individuals or become leaders of our great nation. • 14. The Water Treatment Process Surface waters necessitate water treatment before consumption to eliminate the risk present to the consumer. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks. The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used to eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment alternate disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly employed techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects on pathogens and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV radiation lamps, which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems had come into use a few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection properties of chlorine. Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more suitable due to its low cost of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan areas. The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. This is called the multiple barrier principle (Water Treatment, 1994). The water treatment begins with the process of screening, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until a Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects collide with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith. However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of Satan. While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in its lair, the Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf in the Christian faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins (hell). Pagans view Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he may face. For example of Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody else could. His strength is matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and came out from the tomb he was buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and Danes. Christ made peace with everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The biggest comparison between Beowulf and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other people. According to Christian belief, Christ was crucified to save everyone from death. Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone else and to calm his soul from the loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was carrying the cross and they came to help him. • 17. The Adaptive Voice The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions. Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to Susan Blackmores essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new memeit is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Besides sport being fun and providing exercise it has some not as obvious effects. Through sport you learn how to communicate and work together as a team to strive for a set goal. Communication and team collaboration is an important characteristic for anyone no matter their career field. For me, my sport experiences have taught me that sometimes you have to find a way to work with people that you do not necessarily like. It is unavoidable to always have only people you get along with on your team whether it is a sports team or a team at a job. Sport teaches many new lessons to children which initially are hard to understand but years later you look back and have that oh that is why moment. I have participated in soccer, baseball, tennis and golf between youth and graduating from high school. I had group tennis lessons during grade school. Previously me and my family would occasionally go to the nearby tennis courts to play a few games for our enjoyment, but I decided that I wanted to try and improve my skills. I only participated in tennis for one year as I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would. • 19. An Analysis Of Joyas Voladoras By Brian Doyle Brian Doyle s short story Joyas Voladoras , named after a species of hummingbird, focuses on hearts. The story first details how hummingbird hearts are quick and necessary for flight, but also that they are so prone to damage and scarring. It then points out the size of the whale s heart, likening it to a room. Doyle goes on to compare the hearts of different organisms, noting that all organisms are always moving, swirling, changing in an eternal dance. Finally, he explains that even though we try to harden our hearts against the pain we feel, to stop others from seeing inside of us, it is impossible, because our hearts will open at even the smallest emotional instance. The author suggests that all living beings have a sense of vulnerability to emotions and pain because of their hearts, uniting all creatures despite their vast differences. First analyzing the hummingbird, Doyle writes, A hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser... their hearts beating faster that we could clearly hear if we pressed our elephantine ears to their infinitesimal chests, emphasizing the diminutive status as well as the rapid beat of the hummingbird s heart. Writing Their hearts are stripped to the skin for the war against gravity and inertia, the mad search for food, the insane idea of flight. The price... is a life closer to death; they suffer more heart attacks and aneurysms and ruptures than any other living creature, Doyle shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emerging market multinationals are companies with operation bases in at least one other country from their home bases (West, 2015). They have varied ownership models with the national or local governments often being part owners of the company as in the case of resource or energy companies. Family or private ownership is also a popular ownership model. They are also multi industrial in nature with the company operating multiple sectors in the home country and internationalizing in only one or two of these (West, 2015). Emerging Market Multinationals mainly emerged because domestic companies in developed countries saw a shift in growth pattern once they reached the peak of their economic curve. Growth slowed down and even became stagnant. This was primarily because the markets in the developed countries had already reached their optimum levels. On the other hand, this was the period of time when developing countries began to experience rapid economic growth. This prompted companies to look towards the potential and resources of these emerging markets as their source of salvation and develop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This soon led to an increase of Jewish deportations to concentration camps where they would face numerous hardships and cruelty; the majority of them were lucky if they lasted a month. The sum of these events helps provide the foundation and road map to genocide during the holocaust. A better understanding of the magnitude and complexity of genocide will come to light by examining these events which served as warning signs that the world stood by and allowed to happen. Most importantly, while many agree that genocide should never have happened to any race, by breaking down genocide from its many elements and events, valuable knowledge and understanding will result on how not to let it happen again. To begin, Anti Semitism was a huge thing with an enormous impact on all of these events. Anti Semitism was a pretty common phenomenon around the holocaust era, but it could have never been made clearer how much dislike the Germans had for the Jews than by having the holocaust. The holocaust was the most extreme method of showing contempt toward a person. The tragic point is that they became convinced and determined they were doing all of Germany a favor by getting rid of the Jews because they were just another flaw in the country; and Germans came to believe that. In his first Anti Semitic writing of 1919, Hitler demonstrated this desire to rid Germany of the Jews, The ultimate objective [of such legislation] must, however, be the irrevocable removal of the Jews ... The code involved five essential principles which allowed for slavery to exist in Texas. These principles included the right to own slaves, criminal conduct regarding slaves, the law afforded to the slaves, slave escapees, and free blacks respectively. With the Constitution of 1845, slave law had matured into an extensive system dedicated to the management of slavery. • 25. East Of Eden Theme Essay East of Eden was published in 1952 by renowned American author, John Steinbeck. Claimed by many to be one of his greatest novels, this piece tells a story of tragedy spanning two generations of two different families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons. Steinbeck himself grew up in the main setting of the book, the Salinas Valley in California. He paints a beautiful picture of the valley, however it is stained with the turmoil the book entails. Meanwhile many themes can be drawn from East of Eden, one of the most notable ones is the battle of good versus evil. This theme is possibly the most interesting because it is one of the only ones that carries on throughout the entirety of the book, and can be related to almost any character. When we look at the dynamic character of Caleb Trask, or the opposition between Abra and Cathy, or even the word timshel , it is clear that good steers the story, and is what ultimately wins. One of the main plots of East of Eden that proves good wins is the dynamic change Caleb Cal Trask goes through. This could be done through the development of governmental regulations, bureaucratic observation, and the erosion of traditional values (Beck, Lash Giddens, 1997). New thought processes and the increase in the application medicine and technology have played important roles in the concept of rationalism (Bilton et al, 2002). The character of modern society could be defined by rationalism (Macionis Plummer, 2012: 123); this can be clearly seen in the South African rational social organization context from hunter gatherer days to modern day society. An example of this would be how the essence of time has changed within society. In traditional hunter gatherer societies, like The San and Zulu clans , before technological inventions such as the clock was introduced, people used to base their time on the sun and moon s position as well as seasons to allocate their time in regions and activities in order to conduct their livelihood (South Africa African Religions, 1996). However, in modern day society, owing to the clock invention, scheduled activities/events are precisely on the hour and minute (Macionis Plummer, 2012: 123). The term smart cities, is used to describe a city that possesses an IoT oriented infrastructure. In a smart city, the digital technologies translate into better public services for inhabitants and better use of resources while reducing environmental impacts . [3] For a smart cityto be feasible, IoT must provide intelligence, interconnection, and instrumentation. Wi Fi enabled smart devices and low cost sensors are components of the smart cityand allow devices a way to communicate with the public via the internet. These devices collect real time data, which not only improves the lives of residents, but transforms several sectors of public service as well. Transportation has been revolutionized by smart traffic management systems which gather data from an array of magnetic road sensors and hundreds of cameras. The result is less delay at major stop lights and increased travel speeds, because enabled drivers can see which lights are busy and monitor these areas for other vehicles and pedestrians. To lower traffic and driver search times for parking spots, parking sensors that detect parking spaces for drivers are installed in major cities. I remember when visuals were used to represent psychiatric treatment consisted of a man wearing black horn rimmed glasses, sitting in a high back arm chair, with a pen and tablet in his hands to take notes on the session with the June Cleaver looking woman laying on :the couch, a small wind up clock sitting on a table in front of them, the hour ticking away. Today, treatment for mental disorders come in the shape of a magic bullet, for many this is the first and only psychiatric treatment used. The days of couch therapy are long gone. What is seen today is the indiscriminate use of psychoactive drugs, driven largely by the machinations of the pharmaceutical industry: Psychiatry once subscribed to the Freudian view that mental illness came from roots in unconscious conflicts (usually appearing in adolescence) that affected the mind as though it were separate from the brain. With the introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950s, and sharply accelerating in the 1980s, it was then that the psychiatric focus shifted to the brain. Psychiatrists began to refer to themselves as psycho pharmacologists, and became far less interested in exploring the life stories of their patients and more interested in treating their patients with drugs. The psychiatric profession became optimistic that the use of psychoactive drugs would be beneficial with the new biological model that psychiatry adopted. Their optimism began to fade as serious side effects of the drugs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Spread Of Islamic Ethics Islamic standards of moral conduct are specified in the shari ah. Muslims practice this by reciting the first three verses of the al Fatihah, which is the opening to the Qur an. Islamic ethics is characterized as the straight path of kindness that leads to the source of life. The path is lived out by Muslims by practicing the five pillars. The five pillars are; Shahada, the profession of faith, Salat, ritual prayer five times daily, Zakat, giving reasons to help others, Sawm, spiritual discipline to fasting, and the Hajj, which is a pilgrimage to Mecca (p. 87). • 40. Habits of the Mind Habits of Mind The habits of mind might better be termed the habits of a perfected mind since most have not acquired all of these habits. The two selected for this paper are persistence and precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is distracted from them. Persistence and precision are habits of mindthat require many of the same skills to acquire. Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick, 2008). It is the ability to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection of the effort. People who have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but press on until they are successful. Having precision of language and thought is striving to communicate accurately in both written and oral form, taking care to use precise language; defining terms; and using correct names, labels and analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is communicating thoughts clearly so that they are not misunderstood. It is also a skill that takes a great deal of determination and discipline to perfect. These two skills can be innate, in a very few people, but by the majority they are acquired (Watts, 2012). Thinking clearly is the first step to communicating clearly, and this leads to the ability to accomplish tasks. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Da Vinci Code Contradictions In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective components of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such as whether Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims contradict each other. While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find a few contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine the novel s overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and probability of the rest of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is uncovering hidden meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci. Brown uses three of Da Vinci s most well known works of art The Vitruvian Man, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper as realistic pieces of evidence to ground the probability of his ... This may come across as shocking to most Christians, yet Brown claims Da Vinci held a reputation of practicing spiritual hypocrisy.
