Pyrrhic dance
Pyricheios dance or Pyrrhic dance is a traditional mock war
dance. While dancing dancers are armed and sometimes they
hold shields and spears. Actually they move like soldiers during
a fight. In the past they used it as a training for war!!
There are many different opinions about the origins of this
dance. First of all, some people believe that it was an imitation
of goddess Athina, who was holding shield and spear when she
was born. Other people believe it reminds us of Athina dancing
after her victory vs the Giants. Another version is that
Pyricheios was first danced during the war in Troy and
specifically around the fire which had been lit by the Greeks to
burh Patroklos. Finally other say they first danced it in Crete
and Lakonia . According to the legend the first man who danced
it was Neoptolemos to celebrate the murder of Eurypylus…
No matter who was the first dancer, it is true that a lot of
people love dancing it today.People from all the world admired
it during the ceremony at Athens Olympics in 2004.
