The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo
On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most
famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works.
Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and MarГa Perez .
Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his
grandmother, Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year
later. Murillo was an orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her
husband.
Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the
daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show

Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time
are some of his best,.
In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in
CГЎdiz. This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon
after.
During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher,
and ZurbarГЎn, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo
painted in the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light
and dark. Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works
were lighter and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his
style evolved to be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further
changed his style, encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer
color. In Murillo s late life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober
colors. It is said that his work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined.
One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the MusГ©e
du Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street

Who Is Miley Cyrus A Hero
Destiny Hope Cyrus, more commonly known as Miley Cyrus, is a singer, actress, and
songwriter. Born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1992, she grew up on a farm with her many
siblings. She is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, a famous country singer. Miley s professional
career began at the early age of 9, when she appeared on her father s television series. Shortly after,
Miley landed the main role as Hannah Montanta in Disney Channels show, Hannah Montana.
Ironically, Billy Ray Cyrus was casted to be Miley s on screen father and manager. After being
cast in that show, Miley s family left their farm life behind and moved to California, in support of
her career. Hannah Montana was a hit, especially among millions of pre teen and teenage girls
worldwide. In 2006, she launched her first of many successful albums, Hannah Montana, which
included a duet sung by her and her father. A couple years later in 2009, Miley Cyrusappeared

the biggest scandal yet at the MTV Video Music Awards by grinding up against Robin Thicke s

only saw it as a desperate attempt to separate herself from her once innocent

Aldi And Trader Joe s
In the St. Louis metropolitan region there is a wide variety of grocery retailers, from which
consumers purchase their groceries. With many grocery stores spread throughout the regional area
offering good merchandise and competitive prices there are two chains that are frequented, Aldi s
and Trader Joe s. Both of these companies share the same parent company, Albrecht Brothers, and
have stores nationwide. Both Aldiand Trader Joe s are owned by one company; however, they share
commonalities and differences.
I first started shopping at Aldi with my mom when I was a little girl. I didn t know it at the time,
but it was definitely a good time to start learning how far a dollar would actually stretch. Of all
the shoppers in the store there were other children with their parents, teenie boppers, Gen Xers,
Baby Boomers, on up to the Elderly Generation. Aldi knows no color, creed, or class distinction
associated with ethnicities, income levels, religions, or race, therefore all are welcome to shop.
Aldi is known as the stock up store. As I walked into my local all the store I noticed that all of
the grocery carts were kept outside and required a quarter deposit, which is returned to the patron
after they return the cart. At the entrance of the store I noticed a stand that housed the weekly sale
ad and insert of all their special buys. Looking around all of the shelving was of a warehouse
format, which only stood about five feet tall making it accessible for many customers to

The Ways We Lie Analysis
Lying is in us all, we all lie no matter how good we are. An individual could try to avoid lying but
eventually there would be a slip up. A white lie might not do damage but it still will be counted
as a lie. What if we stop lying, what if we just told the truth and tell no more lie s for awhile? In
How Lying Affects Your Health By Angela Haupt, she says lying is thought to trigger the
release of stress hormones, increasing heart rate and blood pressure (1). So by not lying you will
feel less stress and keep your blood pressure from rising. In Is Lying Bad for Us? by Richard
Gunderman he talks similar to Haupt but talks about how when not lying you have a bunch of
health benefits. The Ways We Lie
by Stephanie Ericsson talks about different types of lying and
how each has effects on a person. All three talk about lying and the physical and physiological
effects. Erickson s essay is very informational when it comes to lying and different types of lairs.
In her essay she has ten different types of lairs. There were five that were the most of interest. The
first one being facades and to facades is basically is just putting a mask on. Telling or boasting

Guy Monttag s Transformation In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray...
At the beginning of Fahrenheit 451 we get to know a person by the name of Guy Montag, who
is in a mid life crisis. We also get introduced to the world he lives in; a futuristic world, with fast
cars, and TV walls. His wife Mildred, is addicted to the TV walls, and doesn t know anything
outside the bubble that the TV walls have kept her in. Guy Montagdoes not think much about his
job as a fireman, or even his marriage with Mildred. Guy Montag at the begging of the novel
goes from being a very senseless person, that ignores even themselves, to someone that finally
knows what s going on and realizes they have a purpose in the world. While on his way home
from work, Montag meets a girl by the name of Clarisse. She asks him a question. Are you happy
? Montag then has something to finally think of. He can finally develop the skill of thinking.
This is when Montag starts his transformation. She is the one who encourages Montag to
question everything. You re one of the few who put up with me. That s why I think it s so
strange you re a fireman, it just doesn t seem right for you, somehow. (Bradbury 24). Montag s
transformation progresses when he starts reading the books that he had stolen from all the fires.
It s ironic how Montag, a fireman, reads and keeps so many books. He is excited to learn more
and more about the world which he hadn t known of before he had met Clarisse. He is developing
his mindlessness into knowledge. And I thought about books. And for the first

Ishtar becomes furious and tells his father who has more power than her to release the bull of
heaven to earth to kill Gilgamesh and his people. The bull of heaven kills more than two

for helping Gilgamesh killing it. Eventually, Enkidu dies and Gilgamesh feels miserable because

Don Quixote As A Hero
Don Quixote, a character who is going crazy reading books that discuss heroic Knights. These
books lead Don Quixote on a journey to win over his lover, Dulcinea. Throughout Don Quixote s
journey, his intelligence is tested along with his sanity, but the one major question is what changes
his attitude toward chivalry in this novel? Chivalry, according to dictionary.com, is the sum of the
ideal qualifications of a Knight, this includes: courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms.
Don Quixotebelieves that by bringing these qualities back into society, the world will once again
obtain its beauty. On this journey, Don Quixote is accompanied by a peasant laborer, Sancho Panza,
who Don Quixote refers to as his squire. Sancho, takes the roll of Don Quixote s squire because of
greed. Unlike the other characters in this novel, Sancho admires Don Quixote s madness, even
getting himself wrapped along in it at times. The Author uses the three main characters to
emphasize different opinions on the world and love within the world. Starting with Don Quixote
himself, he comes off both intelligent and insane at times. Imagining life the way he wishes it truly
was, many of these examples are stated in the following paragraph. Making decisions based off
what he wants not noticing the impact on others until after. This attitude ends up getting him into
trouble. In chapter five, Don Quixote approaches merchants ordering them around in hope to obtain

Consequently, using relevant monetary policy is an important role to control influence of
exchange rate on inflation. There are many different monetary policy in each country such as: fix
exchange rate, floating exchange rate. Some countries would choose fix exchange rate policy to
reduce inflation, it means central bank will prevent the home currency supply from increasing too
quickly. In this case, central bank will purchase the supply of own currency from private investors
to balance supply and demand at the fix exchange rate. So domestic currency supply will reduce
and inflation is controlled. Besides, other countries use floating exchange rate or flexible exchange

Analysis Of The Biography Devin Booker
Devin Booker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 30, 1996. He was born to
Melvin Booker and Veronica Gutierrez. His father, Melvin Booker, was named the 1994 Big
Eight player of the year while point guard at the University of Missouri. Booker was in Michigan,
while his father was pursuing a professional career overseas. Devin visited his father two months
out of the year while he was on summer break. At an early age, Devin was taught by his father that
having a basketballIQ was more important than natural athleticism.
While Devin was in Michigan, he had played for the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball
teams at Grandville High School, in Grand Rapids. But Booker then moved to Mississippi, to live
with his father, after his retirement from professional basketball. He had then enrolled into Moss

in Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgetown, Florida, Georgetown, Alabama, and Missouri. Later
that season Devin scored 54 points in the MLK shootout.

In CPIF contracts the seller is reimbursed for all allowable expenses and receives a fee based upon
achievement of performance objectives. In CPAF contracts the seller is reimbursed for legitimate

This contract type is used when it is impossible to estimate accurately the extent or duration of the

Outputs of the procurement planning process include the procurement management plan,

Essay on Tell-tale Heart Literary Analysis
The Tell Tale Heart A Literary Analysis Like many of Poe s other works, the Tell Tale Heart is a
dark story. This particular one focuses on the events leading the death of an old man, and the
events afterwards. That s the basics of it, but there are many deep meanings hidden in the three
page short story. Poe uses techniques such as first person narrative, irony and style to pull off a
believable sense of paranoia. In this particular story, Poe decided to write it in the first person
narrative. This technique is used to get inside the main character s head and view his thoughts and
are often exciting. The narrator in the Tell Tale Heart is telling the story on how he killed the old
man while pleading his sanity. To quote a phrase... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe s economic style of writing is a key instrument in making this story amazing. In this story, he
uses his style to truly bring out what he intended for the story a study of paranoia. In example, I
loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had
no desire. I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture a
pale blue eye with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me my blood ran cold, and so by degrees,
very gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye
for ever. it is easy to see that Poe used short sentences, to capture the rapid thoughts of a twisted
mind. Perhaps the biggest element in this story is the use of irony, both verbally and
dramatically. For verbal irony, we can see clearly at the end that what the narrator tells the
officers and how he acts on the outside, (in a cool manner , as he puts it) is much different than
the chaos on the inside, as in what he wants to say. He sees the police as villains and wishes them
to leave, but due to the situation, he had to keep them there. The more that he assures himself of
his sanity near the end of the story and the more that he thinks that he is acting coolly, eventually
leads him to reveal that he is the one that killed the old man after all. As for dramatic irony, since
we know that the narrator is the one that killed the old man,

Beat Detective Narrative
Beat Detective was used to ensure that the drums were in time with the click track. Elastic audio
was used on the bass and guitars, although later in the process the producer felt that the guitars
and bass were still not entirely in time with the drums, therefore the author nudged any bars that
where visibly out of time with the grid in ProTools in time. This process was time consuming,
although it made a real difference to the tracks. The vocals were about a quarter note out of time
on I Hear I Forget , so the author nudged them in time too. The producer then went through each of
the vocalist s phrases and clip gained the words that were not clearly audible amongst the mix. For
held notes, volume automation was used to keep the tails of audio audible in the song.... Show more

This left the Subkick and M88 for the author to work with. The kick was gated and then
compressed, so the compressor did not reduce the transient peaks that the gate would detect. The
kick had 4dB of compression because it was quite inconsistent in terms of dynamics. After this
was applied, throughout the song the kick had a tendency to poke out here and there. The author
used a limiter to correct this problem and to reduce the kicks dynamic range even further. The
author made a boost of 4.5dB to 70Hz to provide the kick with more thud. The M88 picked up the
kicks beater very well and the author did not need to find that punchy frequency through EQ. In
order to separate the bass and the kick drum, the author added a second EQ and found each tracks
most prominent low end frequency, then notched them out of the each others

Symbolism And Allegory In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
An allegory is a story where all characters and events are symbolic. Allegories have the
remarkable ability to take a basic story and make it complex by adding a symbolic aspect, like a
person s name or a physical object. The Lottery involves a small, agricultural community, where
they have an annual drawing. The winner of the lotterygets death as its prize. They believe that if
they sacrifice a person, they they will have good crops. Shirley Jacksonincludes many symbols and
allusions in The Lottery in order to convey her message: traditions can lead to mob mentality if
they are not stopped.
The story Lottery is about a lottery. If they are picked, then they are stoned to death as a sacrifice
for good crops. It represents the idea handed

Biography on Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Spain in 1451. Genoa back in 1451 was an old sea port
which was by the Ligurian Sea. Christopher Columbus s Spanish name was Cristoforo Colombo,
translated into English that means Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus had two younger
brothers. Columbus had little education like most of the people of that time period of 1451. Genoa
was a rather busy sea port that had a lot of trade coming in and out of it. Christopher Columbus
picked up a thing or two like fishing from the sailors arriving at Genoa to do work. Columbus had
a father who was a weaver that did not bring home a lot of money. Therefore, the family sometimes
had to do without some things. Columbus also worked with his father when he was not out
exploring the port of Genoa. However, Christopher had long had his mind set on being a sailor.
Columbus finally found an opportunity to sail. He went fishing with merchants and fishermen.
Christopher Columbus was also interested in geography and map making, which he studied when
he sailed. In Christopher s twenties he made his very first trip through the Mediterranean Sea into
the Atlantic Ocean. During Christopher Columbus s trip their ship was attacked and burned.
Columbus swam an astounding six miles by holding on to ship wreckage. In 1476 Christopher
Columbus moved to the country of Portugal. In Portugal he met a woman named Felipa Perestrello

Methods Of Creating The Cannon
The main purpose of creating the cannon was to familiarize ourselves with the different machines
and techniques that are involved with machining. Throughout the semester, the students are given
the freedom to explore and try out the different machines. It was not uncommon to make mistakes
but then learn from them. The cannoncreated a way for the students to experience real world
problems and how to fix it on their own.
The cannon was constructed in two parts, the cannon base and the cannon barrel. At the beginning
of the semester, we were given an aluminum cylinder, which would become the barrel. The process
began with using the Dykem layout fluid to paint the barrel blue, so measurements could be
marked. There were several marks made, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The barrel can then be inserted into the collet, leaving about only an inch sticking out, and the hand
wheel on the side of the lathe can be used to tightened the collet s grip. To face off the barrel, the
cutting tool needs to be utilized. The cutting tool can be installed by inserting it into the holder,
with the end facing the Live Center Point. This step is very important to making sure that the tool
is centered in height, thus making smooth ends and insuring no damage will be done to the tool.
The tool is then flipped so it is facing the barrel. Next turn on the lathe and use the hand wheel to
move the tool across the end of the barrel until the reference line is reached. The next step is to
center drill the barrel. The Jacob s chuck should then be inserted into the quill. Next center drill the
end the maximum diameter of the ВЅ center drill. Then change the drill to the 3/8 drill and drill to a
depth of 2 1/8 . The outside diameter should then be turned down to .835 . This is done by
loosening the collet chuck and extending the stock to about 5 ВЅ of material is sticking out of the
collet. Change the tool holder s position from the front of the tool post to the side of the tool post.
Install the Live Center in the Tailstock Quill and slide the tailstock down to the barrel, inserting the

Do Photoshopped Images Promote Unrealistic Expectations of Beauty and Body Image?
Photoshop is an amazing tool to manipulate your images, we can perform a slight retouch to our

Compare and Contrast of Quindlen and Lutz
Compare and Contrast of Quindlen and Lutz Upon reading and examining two essays, Life under
the chief doublespeak officer a narrative by William Lutz and Homeless , a descriptive by Anna
Quindlen, I firmly believe that Quindlen provides the preferred essay due to the gravity of her
subject, greater personal relevance, and that her material allows the reader to sympathize with the
subject matter. William Lutz s essayaddresses the growing trend in Corporate America to disguise
actions with words and or phrases that mask the intention of the company. In Lutz s essay he says,

addresses a topic that has spread like an uncontrollable virus fueled by political correctness.
However, I question the social relevance of the topic. Lutz s essay comes off as having a chip
on his shoulder and cold disdain for current trends in corporate communication. Lutz s thoughts,
accurate as they are, are nothing more than a rehashed Andy Rooney editorial. Quindlen
however, delicately reminds us of how important a place to call home is. Quindlen eloquently
says, Home is where the heart is. There s no place like it. I love my home with ferocity totally
out of proportion to its appearance or location. I love dumb things about it: the hot water heater,
the plastic rack you drain dishes in, the roof over my head, which occasionally leaks. And yet it
is precisely those dumb things that make it what it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability,
privacy, for me and for my family. It is where I live. What more can you say about a place than
that? That is everything. (Quindlen, n.d.) This is how Quindlen separates her work from Lutz s

Equality in Opportunity and Equality in Outcome Essay
Diversity, equality and fairness are the latest buzzwords being kicked around in academia and
the media. Everybody is supposed to achieve the American Dream today, regardless of who you
are, where you came from, or what you do to get there. According to their math, equality of
opportunity equals equality of outcome, and if it doesn t, rig the formula so it does. I read a
couple of articles in nj.com recently. In one, a Rutgers Camden professor of Public Policy
published a study that found that more poor people were being concentrated in small to mid size
cities today compared to ten years ago. OK, the economy collapsed and the housing market
tanked: poor people always lived in crappy neighborhoods with other poor people, and rich people

Nt1310 Unit 1 Exercise 1 Activity 2
A sound wave is a disturbance that repeats regularly in space and time and that transmits energy
from one place to another with no transfer of matter. In Activity 2 on page 8 we had to model
sound waves using an instrument. In our class we used a flute as the example and when the person
blew into it, soundwaves were produced. As they blew and changed the volume and pitch the sound
waves changed. A sound waveis created when something vibrates. When something vibrates,
longitudinal waves are created which we can hear. A longitudinal wave is a wave that transfers
energy through compressions and rarefactions in the material that the wave travels which are all
parts of a sound wave. In Activity 2 it states in some parts of the wave, the air molecules... Show

These parts make up the sound waves and they travel through a medium which is the material that
a wave energy travels through. On page 10 in Activity 2 we had to fill out the table on how to
make a louder sound and we learned that to have a louder sound the compressions have to be larger
and to increase the frequency the compressions also had to be larger. When we did the activity
with the slinkies this was the case because when we had more compressions the sound was
louder and the frequency increased. In Activity 1 on page 4 we learned that sound intensity is
how much sound energy passes through a certain area in a certain amount of time as it spreads
out from the source. Decibels are a unit of measure that indicates the relative intensity of a
sound. In Activity 1 on page 5 when we were looking at the table it showed us that as the sound
intensity increases the decibel increases because the decibel measured how intense the sound
was. According to the chart on page 4 the decibels at a quiet library is 40 dB and the relative
intensity is 1000, however if the noise source is some explosions then the decibels is 160 and the

instance, the Russian Prime Minister demands that the United States agree not to invade Cuba after
the Russian troops and supplies pull back from the island (History.com Staff, 2009). Also, the

Now, both countries agree to the initial terms with little hesitation. However, later on, the Russian

Summary Of Trisha BrownВґs Topping Dance Critique
Topping dance , was an article written by Trisha Brown and La Ribot during mid march of 2003.
Trish Brown performed at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, an event titled It s a
Darw/Live Feed. This performance was a collaboration with the Department of Modern and
Contemporary Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Brown s performance was a hybrid of
improvised danceand automatic drawing that would be witnessed live by an audience placed in a
separate space in the museum, where they could watch a live video feed. Reading this article, I
found it very interesting while also kind of difficult at some points. Having the discussion in class

To keep track of both one must look up and down and sideways simultaneously. While Trisha
Brown is dancing the gaze and attention is produced within an excessively parergonic space. When
reading this part of the article, I related this to how dancers use projection or text while also
dancing and performing on stage. Depending on the performance and the use other art techniques,
the specific work could get distracting. When putting dance and projection together, making sure
the performance and projection match is important. As the audience is watching, each specific
work could get distracting where the audience will choose whether to watch the projection or the
dancing. It is a challenge when using multi media things because the nature of video, our eye pulls
to it no matter how interesting the performers are on stage. Olivia also mentioned while we were at
ACDA, the adjudicators spoke about how they were so distracted by some of the spoken words
within the dances because it was overpowering. They got lost with the movement because they
were so focused on the words. In our discussion on Wednesday, Taylor mentioned that on page 75,
Brown s movements and actions created a visual kinetic troubling brought about by her constant
creation, redistribution, and mobilization of multiplying vanishing points . Right before

Les Liaisons Dangereuses Research Paper
Women in 18th century literature often found themselves in a lose lose situation. Men wanted
seductive women that would cater to their every wish, but they also wanted virginal women to be
their little housewives. In 18th century literature, women often fell into the men s traps and
succumbed to seduction. After they fell though, they would have to be punished in order to prevent
women of the time period reading these stories from thinking they had too much power. One of the
most powerful weapons a womanhad over a man was her sexuality. One can see an example of two
of these women in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. CГ©cile and Madame de Tourvel both represent 18th

She was a deeply religious woman with high morals, but she could not withstand the charms of

decided to give up love forever since she would not love him back, and Tourvel felt she had to
save him from a lifetime of unhappiness (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 273). Tourvel did not give
in to Valmont due to pleasure; she felt she was sacrificing her happiness for his. When Valmont
is convinced by Merteuil to end their affair, Tourvel ran away to a convent (Les Liaisons
Dangereuses 317). She not only lost her chastity with Valmont, but she also lost her faith. Tourvel
had committed wholeheartedly to loving and saving Valmont, and he basically threw her to the
side. The letter that Valmont sent her written by Merteuil stated repeatedly that it was not his
fault (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 315). She felt there was no other way to repent for her adultery
other than to die. She believed that she was doing God s work by converting Valmont, but, when
he left her, she lost the faith that what she was doing was God s work. She said many times that
she should have trusted her friends and stayed true to her husband, but she was blinded by the need
to help Valmont. Even though her punishment was self inflicted, she was still punished. Since her
fall was much greater, the author made her punishment more severe. As many doctors could tell,
there was no physical virus plaguing her. The only thing wrong with Tourvel was her want to
punish herself with pain, suffering, and death. Until the bitter end, Tourvel wanted to still save

Valmont. However, it was the only punishment fit for a woman of the time period who betrayed

Legal Developments in Western Civilization
Legal Developments in Western Civilization
The span of Western Civilization encompasses many notable achievements in legal development.
As empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes
punishment, institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of
power. These principles were formally established relatively early in the western world, and
became the foundations upon which later government institutions created their legal systems. The
Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the
evolution of legal thought and practice. Not only do they show the legal and political direction of
the empires, but also the progression of their social values The Babylonian empire s success was
due in large part to its powerful sixth king, Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the
age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars
of conquest. His military success meant that his empire now possessed a diverse population that
was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire and making punishments standard and
universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred clauses, Hammurabi established the
rudiments of common law. Though not a set of statutes to be cited, it did provide judges with
examples of past decisions handed down for various disputes. His concept of justice was reflected

Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports Essay
Men, Women and Gender Boundaries in Sports
Today, we are seeing many changes in regard to gender and its place in the athletic world. More
than ever, men and women are crossing gender boundaries and entering a non traditional sport for
their sex. Of course this boundary crossing is significant culturally and socially as it challenges
conventional view of male and female characteristics and roles. When altering a customary view of
gender in a society, there are both costs and benefits to that society. This paper will discuss the
costs and benefits to a traditionally male centered culture when women and men cross gender lines
in sport, and provide examples of different sports in which gender lines are being erased.

Prejudice in any form cannot afford to exist in the international community if we all hope to live
together in peace and progress. Women play an important role in this community, including the
world of sports. Females need to be taken seriously in athletics if they are to be taken seriously at
all. To say that a female cannot play sports is to imply that she is weaker than a male, and thus
her worth and credibility are tarnished. Boxing, for example, is a traditional male sport that
women were not encouraged to participate in until fairly recently. However, women such as Laila
Ali and Jacqui Frazier demonstrate that women can not only be good boxers, but champion
boxers. Also, bodybuilding is a traditional male sport in which women have been participating.
Andrea Silva Izard and Laura Binetti are two currently well known body builders. Even another
male sport into which women have made an entrance is racecar driving. Sarah Fisher and Allison
Duncan are two well known drivers.
Yet, allowing women into male sports only solves half the problem of gender equality. Men must be
allowed to participate in sports traditionally seen as female orientated. Although I tried to research
men who might be competing in female sports such as field hockey and synchronized swimming, I
was only able to find information on the United States Men s

Louisana Clean Air Act Essay
For this research paper, I chose to discuss the Louisiana air quality and its effects on the
community. I was raised here in Baker, Louisiana which is north of Baton Rouge. Growing up I
noticed something very striking and odd. We are overly exposed to chemical plants and their
outputs. Driving around Baton Rouge at night and seeing a distant flame I often wonder what it
really was. I wonder how this was affecting the community. How was this affecting our health?
Upon doing research, I discovered it is called upset emissions. Upset emissions are unplanned
events which release VOCs into the air. The Bucket Brigade which is an anti energy group refers
to emissions as accidents. Every year they release an annual report which gives... Show more

The Tuft Of Flowers By Robert Frost
Robert Frost said many times throughout his life that all men share a common bond. In his
poem The Tuft of Flowers he analyzes the potential of such a bond, in first person. Frost turns an
everyday common job, into discovering a common bond with another laborer. The author uses a
comparison between aloneness with a sense of understanding to demonstrate his theme of unity
between two men. In another one of Frost s poems Birches he imagines walking through the
woods looking at all the trees, and seeing the top bending towards the ground. When he sees this
he imagines they are bending from kids swinging on them, rather then what is really happening
to them. It can be analyzed that Frost had a very definitive appreciation for nature, and a very
broad imagination. The poem begins with a man going to turn the grass . In this time period
grass was cut using a scythe in the early morning, while grass was still wet. After this was done
another laborer had to scatter the grass to let it dry. As the other laborer is going out to the field,
there is no one else around him, he is completely alone, until a single silent butterfly crosses paths.
The worker witnesses the butterfly looking for flowers, and eventually finds a gathering of them,
which amuses the author. The author begins to ponder what was going through the other workers
head to make him decide to leave the flowers intact. He begins to sense the beauty that the other
worker must have felt when he left the flowers

Whether you live in the North, East, South, or West side of Canada it s all beautiful in it s own
way. Canada has so much diversity in culture, people, landform, and much more.
The Northern part of Canada is quite the scene, though it s like a freezer in there the land there is
so much more unique from the other parts of Canada. The rocky mountains, glaciers, and valleys
make it stand out more from all the other parts. Considering the climate there. It may seem like

  • 2. The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works. Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and MarГa Perez . Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother, Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband. Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are some of his best,. In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in CГЎdiz. This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after. During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher, and ZurbarГЎn, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark. Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style, encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined. One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the MusГ©e du Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street ... Poe s economic style of writing is a key instrument in making this story amazing. In this story, he uses his style to truly bring out what he intended for the story a study of paranoia. In example, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture a pale blue eye with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me my blood ran cold, and so by degrees, very gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye for ever. it is easy to see that Poe used short sentences, to capture the rapid thoughts of a twisted mind. Perhaps the biggest element in this story is the use of irony, both verbally and dramatically. For verbal irony, we can see clearly at the end that what the narrator tells the officers and how he acts on the outside, (in a cool manner , as he puts it) is much different than the chaos on the inside, as in what he wants to say. He sees the police as villains and wishes them to leave, but due to the situation, he had to keep them there. The more that he assures himself of his sanity near the end of the story and the more that he thinks that he is acting coolly, eventually leads him to reveal that he is the one that killed the old man after all. Lutz addresses a topic that has spread like an uncontrollable virus fueled by political correctness. However, I question the social relevance of the topic. Lutz s essay comes off as having a chip on his shoulder and cold disdain for current trends in corporate communication. Lutz s thoughts, accurate as they are, are nothing more than a rehashed Andy Rooney editorial. Quindlen however, delicately reminds us of how important a place to call home is. Quindlen eloquently says, Home is where the heart is. There s no place like it. I love my home with ferocity totally out of proportion to its appearance or location. I love dumb things about it: the hot water heater, the plastic rack you drain dishes in, the roof over my head, which occasionally leaks. Everybody is supposed to achieve the American Dream today, regardless of who you are, where you came from, or what you do to get there. According to their math, equality of opportunity equals equality of outcome, and if it doesn t, rig the formula so it does. I read a couple of articles in nj.com recently. In Activity 2 on page 8 we had to model sound waves using an instrument. In our class we used a flute as the example and when the person blew into it, soundwaves were produced. As they blew and changed the volume and pitch the sound waves changed. A sound waveis created when something vibrates. When something vibrates, longitudinal waves are created which we can hear. Depending on the performance and the use other art techniques, the specific work could get distracting. When putting dance and projection together, making sure the performance and projection match is important. Tourvel had committed wholeheartedly to loving and saving Valmont, and he basically threw her to the side. • 36. Legal Developments in Western Civilization Legal Developments in Western Civilization The span of Western Civilization encompasses many notable achievements in legal development. As empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes punishment, institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of power. These principles were formally established relatively early in the western world, and became the foundations upon which later government institutions created their legal systems. The Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the evolution of legal thought and practice. Not only do they show the legal and political direction of the empires, but also the progression of their social values The Babylonian empire s success was due in large part to its powerful sixth king, Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars of conquest. His military success meant that his empire now possessed a diverse population that was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire and making punishments standard and universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred clauses, Hammurabi established the rudiments of common law. Though not a set of statutes to be cited, it did provide judges with examples of past decisions handed down for various disputes. His concept of justice was reflected in the biblical ... Women play an important role in this community, including the world of sports. Females need to be taken seriously in athletics if they are to be taken seriously at all. To say that a female cannot play sports is to imply that she is weaker than a male, and thus her worth and credibility are tarnished. Boxing, for example, is a traditional male sport that women were not encouraged to participate in until fairly recently. However, women such as Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier demonstrate that women can not only be good boxers, but champion boxers. In his poem The Tuft of Flowers he analyzes the potential of such a bond, in first person. Frost turns an everyday common job, into discovering a common bond with another laborer. The author uses a comparison between aloneness with a sense of understanding to demonstrate his theme of unity between two men. In another one of Frost s poems Birches he imagines walking through the woods looking at all the trees, and seeing the top bending towards the ground. When he sees this he imagines they are bending from kids swinging on them, rather then what is really happening to them. It can be analyzed that Frost had a very definitive appreciation for nature, and a very broad imagination. The poem begins with a man going to turn the grass . In this time period grass was cut using a scythe in the early morning, while grass was still wet. After this was done another laborer had to scatter the grass to let it dry. As the other laborer is going out to the field, there is no one else around him, he is completely alone, until a single silent butterfly crosses paths. The worker witnesses the butterfly looking for flowers, and eventually finds a gathering of them, which amuses the author.
