The Stereotypes Of Reality Television
What once started as every day, regular people appearing on television shows have now morphed
into celebrities and want to be celebrities competing for attention and doing almost anything to
receive it on primetime television. The genre of television, which was once jumpstarted by the
appeal of relatable people, who could be the viewers next door neighbors, being featured has since
disappeared and been replaced by a monstrosity that does not accurately portray reality and often
stereotypes people (Huff). One specific group that has been targeted by what reality televisionhas
morphed into is women. The new version of reality televisionis specifically adequate at
encouraging gender culture, the set of behaviors or practices associated with masculinity and
femininity (Huff). Reality television enforces gender roles and negatively impacts feminism in
today s society. Reality television sexualizes women, portrays them as dependent on and less
superior to men, and exemplifies them as dramatic, catty, and often only as homemakers. The
portrayal and stereotyping of women on reality television is demoralizing and can be described as
the contemporary backlash against feminism ( Reality TV ). These false and demeaning
stereotypes are prevailed in all types of reality television shows, making their impact extensive,
considering Americans spend one third of their spare time watching television and of that time sixty
seven percent is spent watching reality television ( Reality

What Does Ambiguity Mean In The Things They Carried
When a word, phrase, or statement is ambiguous, it contains multiple meanings that can be
interpreted in at least two different ways. The use of ambiguity may confuse the reader on
understanding the author s viewpoint. However, it can also be used to convey the author s multiple
viewpoints through single word, phrase, or statement, thus, allowing the reader to understand the
literature in deeper sense of meaning. In the fictional novel, The Things They Carried by Tim O
Brien, the word carried carries multiple meanings to each characters based on their cultural and
religious background. The term carry throughout the chapter, The Things They Carried, introduces
physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual burdens that O Brien s characters had
to confront. In the beginning of the novel, O Brien introduces his first character,... Show more

means to take or support from one place to another, to wear, to hold, to have around, to contain or
to be capable of containing, to serve as an agent for transmission, and many more. After the
introductory paragraph, O Brien wrote, The things they carried were largely determined by

The Importance and History of the Steam Engine Essay
The wonderful progress of the present century is, in a very great degree, due to the invention and
improvement of the steam engine, and to the ingenious application of its power to kinds of work
that formerly taxed the physical energies of the human race. ~Robert H. Thurston
The steam engine can easily be considered the single most important invention of the entire
industrial revolution. There is not one part of industry present in today s society that can be
examined without coming across some type of reference or dependence upon the steam engine.
But, who deserves the credit for this great invention? Some give the credit to James Watt while
others claim that Thomas Newcomen was the original inventor. However, the idea of the... Show

Thurston.
The idea using the power of steam to our advantage goes back nearly twenty one centuries. A
learned writer in ancient Alexandria, named Hero, wrote a manuscript describing various
devices and ideas of the time. Although it is not proven that Hero was the inventor of any of
these devices, he is given credit for the earliest mention of steam power. Hero describes a method
to open the doors of a temple with the action of a fire on the alter at the front of the temple. A
series of pipes runs between the alter and the temple doors. The force of the steam created by the
fire on the alter is strong enough to open the temple doors. The essential principle that Hero used
was to change heat energy into mechanical energy or work. Supposedly, Hero continued his work
and ended up creating what is often called the First Steam Engine. Hero s engine is featured on
below on the right. The cauldron or bowl like portion AB holds water. There is a steam tight
cover place over top of the cauldron. Two pipes extend from the lid and suspend a globe directly
above the cauldron. The water is heated, causing steam to be created and forced through the
pipes. The globe then fills with steam. Pipes K and H are located on opposite sides of the globe
and allow the steam to escape when the pressure becomes uneven. The escaping steam then causes
the globe to spin on its axis.

Desalination Lab Report
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to test the effect of selected variables on the osmotic pressure during
desalination. The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and
the solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater.
Background Information
I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and
the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an
organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present
experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of
potable water for human consumption.

This strength thus makes it more durable than the current polymer membranes that are in use. Its
thinness results in less resistance during the process of pushing solvent molecules across the
semipermeable membrane. Consequently, less pressure needs to be generated, cutting the energy
costs of desalination by between 15 46% . In order for the graphene to work as a semipermeable
membrane, it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but
small enough to prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the
pores is one nanometer . In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible
methods : helium ion bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of
graphene for desalination is still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is
creating graphene semipermeable membranes with pores of the right size on a large enough

Examples Of Marxism In Bartleby The Scrivener
Immediately then the thought came sweeping across me, what miserable friendlessness and
loneliness are here revealed. His poverty is great, but his solitude, how horrible! This familiar
statement expresses the narrators moral dilemma in Herman Melville s, Bartleby the Scrivener, and
the narrator assumes that Bartleby is affected by his lack of human interaction. In, Bartleby the
Scrivenerby Herman Melvilledemonstrates the idea of Marxism, the idea of alienation of labor. The
narrator, through his fascination of Bartleby, is transformed from a man who like peace in life to a
man that thrives in a capitalist society, into understanding the isolation of capitalism.

It is hard for any artist of any kind to keep everyone amazed by their work, especially in a time
when their work would not be credited as much as it should. When Moby Dick was released
Marx had suffered financial trouble and no exceptional critique for his work. I agree with Marx
on the concept that Melville s wrote this book on the social standards for workers in the late
1800 s, and the alienation they face. Melville refused to write books that the public desired or
what the standards of writing topics should be in that day of age. According to Marx alienation
means, the process whereby the worker is made to feel foreign to the products of his/her own labor.
That s how Melville must have felt, alienated by the people around him. Melville worked hard to
write his books, and wanted the praise for his work .However the people of Melville s time wasn t
ready for his work, and they isolated the genius behind his work. Melville is like Bartleby, which
was fascinated by the narrator at first because he said, I would prefer not to. When he is asked to
do something. This is like Melville because his work was fascinated at first by many, and then it
later was not. Bartleby was an allegory for Melville but it also foreshadowed Melville s life, the
Narrator later figured out Bartleby and what he stood for.

Essay on Two Words
Two Words
The short story Two Words by Isabel Allende is a tale about a girl who went by the name of Belisa
Crepusculario. She had extreme desire to be the best at selling words, since the first time she saw
words in the sports section of the newspaper. Belisa learned to read from a priest for 20 pesos and
read the dictionary until she knew it cold. She went from the top of blistering cold mountains to
scorching hot coasts selling her words in markets and fairs. Belisa s words became popular fast and
everyone knew who she was. People waited for her from year to year to hear her words.
The main focus in this story is on the two words that she said to El Mulato that cursed him. This
shows that you can t be so quick to judge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that the author tries to lead the reader in to sympathizing for the people when the author
wrote, The rebels swept into town like a stampeding herd.... Chickens took wing, dogs ran for their
lives, women and children scurried out of sight, until the only living soul left in the market was
Belisa Crepusculario. Because this quote from the story shows how everyone s scared of both the
Colonel and El Mulato except for Belisa.
The setting is important in this story cause the story is set in Spain back in the time when
women had no rights and were only used to cook and clean. But Belisa contradicts society by
putting a curse on El Mulato a mighty all powerful man who everyone is scared of except Belisa.
When Belisa curses El Mulato the once all mighty man El Mulato is in the hands of a woman who
defeated him.
When reading this short story I think that we are suppose to feel surprised after reading the story
from Belisa s accomplishments because Belisa went from being unpopular and poor to being the
most widely known and the most powerful at the end of the story. The message in this story is
aimed to the reader and it says that anyone can do anything they want if they put there mind to it,
and if u have the determination you can accomplish a lot no matter what you are dealt with in life.
Another message in the story is that no matter how strong or powerful one is there will always be
someone bigger and better.
When I first read this story I found it

Quebec Nationalism And Quebec Secessionism
It is crucial to understand the population of Quebec in terms of how likely certain demographics
are to support sovereignty. Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note that constituencies with a high
percentage of young adults are very likely to be in favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be
due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the
province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements
are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high,
such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally, ridings with high
numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support sovereignty and parties such as the
Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is, these individuals directly experienced the surge in
confidence and economic advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to
the province (Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from
Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a viable and
legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Overall, support for Quebec
sovereignty is not divided amongst age groups, allowing Quebec regionalism to survive within
various generations, thus the sovereignty movement continues to exist with young people in the
present and in future political shifts in secessionist

The Discovery Of Economy Essay
It is a pristine tradition that much matters to a nation, when it comes to issues irrelevant to human
development. Speaking in terms of reality, the economic boom of a nation is what human
development all about.
Now let us profoundly analyze what exactly is the economic boom of a nation. As we begin our
analysis, it is highly important for the reader to be enlightened with the fact that it is necessary to
think the right way if he has to understand this immensely valuable message. The reader will have
to discredit all economic and political concepts and thoughts in considering the planet earth as a

We are the sole root cause for the bias in the standard of living in the USA with that of Nigeria or
Somalia or any other impoverished region of this earth.
According to the modern concept and thought, every one of us is keenly interested to know how
nature has created us and how the universe came into existence but none has ever tried to wonder
at the interrogative word why . Why has nature created us together on a single planet, why not
Blacks, Whites, Asians, the Yellow race and the Semitic race, each on a different planet? It was the
duty of the dynamic and charismatic leadership of this world to teach humanity how to peacefully

possible for the nature that devised everything in order, to create life on other planets in our

that we the citizens of the nation earth are a single nation and one family. The cream of this world s
entire human layers, masses and races irrespective of nationality or religion were destined to

Why The Nurse Interacts With A Family Managing A Chronic...
There are many factors to consider when the nurse interacts with a family managing a chronic
illness. The nurse must consider the structure of the family and how they interact while also
identifying how the family and individual with the chronic condition, manage their condition. They
must identify any risk factors that may impede their ability to manage their chroniccondition or
protective factors that improve their abilities to self manage. An analysis of the developmental
stage the family or individual along with the stage of illness they are experiencing is necessary to
successfully build relationships and help guide the family through chronic illness management.
Commendation of the family s efforts and abilities to manage difficult situations revolving around
illness may enhance the family s confidence and improve self management (Wright and Leahey,

through conflicts between warring countries in the Middle East; U.S. involvement started when a

City. The attack was suspected to be the work of the middle eastern terrorist group Al Qaeda. The

According to the UN only 9,759 civilians have died in Afghanistan, but the Lansing medical
journal reports that 654,965 civilian casualties occurred in Iraq from 2003 to 2006 so these
reports should be taken with a grain of salt. On the pro Saddam side of the war 76,778 Islamists
fighters have died; these deaths were made of security forces, private contractors, Sons of Iraq,
and most were made up of other supporters of the regime. According to the U.S. Department of
Defense, U.S. Armed Forces have suffered 4,487 deaths and 32,223 were wounded in action as of
May 2012.
As seen by these studies the people suffering are more so the families of the innocent civilians
than those who fought in the conflicts, and a lot of them were not killed by soldiers. As shown
by sites like WikiLeaks many civilian deaths are caused by mines or drones. These numbers show
the amount of devastation caused by the War on terror and more than ten years later these
numbers are still rising. Ultimately there are still over 50,000 troops in Afghanistan and there are
still plans to remain there for a while. Another consequence of the war is that in a combination of
regarding the safety of the homeland and getting an edge against possible threats, civil liberties
have been violated and human rights have been abused. After the 9/11 attack on Twin Towers and

Effect of Economic Growth in China on Energy Demand and the Environment Introduction China
has grown economically to be one of the most important countries in the world; with over 1.3

If only this were the only growth China has experienced, then it would really be a phenomenon,
sadly, it is not. China s drastic growth in the economy has also lead to a few other drastic
growths, but it is not for the better, in fact, it is for the worse. The energy consumption level and
the pollution level in China has grew much faster than the growth of GDP since 2002. In 2000,

For the past thirty years, China s GDP has been growth at a substantial rate 10% annually, when
totaling that up for 30 years, that would be an increase over 17 times their original economy
before their economic boom. China s economy is ranked second to the U.S and it is the world s
largest exporter and the world s second largest importer. This sounds magnificent, of course,
until we bring into the statistics of China s pollution level increase within those thirty years as
well. Before China s economic boom, their economy pollution was only minimal, after the
economic reform implemented by Deng Xiao Ping, the economy started to grow, and pollution
started to soar as well. From 1980 to 2001, China s economy have grown at 10% GDP, but its
energy consumption have not grown as fast, meaning there were less pollution than growth. China
had excess energy to sell to the energy market in the world prior to 2002. After 2002, China s
demand for energy skyrocketed, which mean their pollution also skyrocketed to an unprecedented
level in China s history. By 2007, China had surpass U.S at the number one spot in pollution, in
which it emits 20 million tons of Co2 annually, and this number is predicted to increase even more,

Then in scenario four the substance foamed and became pasty, after five drops of hydrochloric

this is a physical change because this was only a change in the state of matter. There was also no

Theme Of Character Development In To Kill A Mockingbird
The two main storylines in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird are the trial of Tom Robinson,
who is accused of raping a girl, and the mystery around Arthur Boo Radley. Throughout the story,
we can see the character development of young Jean Louise Scout Finch through these two events
which is one of the indicators that this book falls into the category of Coming of age literature.
Other elements however indicate that To Kill a Mockingbirdcan be seen as a Gothic Novel or even a
subgenre of Gothic namely Southern Gothic.
The characteristics of a character in a Gothic Novel are a virginal maiden or a damsel in distress
who is young, pure, innocent and kind. Other characters include a hero, a villain, a madman,
ruffians or even supernatural beings.
The damsel in distress, who is to be saved by a male person, is not the main character Scout in
this case, since it would sexualize a child if she were to be portrayed as a virginal maiden, but the
daughter of Mr. Ewell, Mayella. She in this case lost her virginity ... Show more content on

Even though she is not mentally unstable or broken she tries to find her place in life and in
society as well. Throughout the book, Scout does not only seem to be appalled by the racism of
her peers and thus cannot relate to them, she also is in a state of inner conflict about the gender
role society, portrayed here in particular by her aunt Alexandra, and would prefer it if she would
not have to follow society s conventions.
Even though To Kill a Mockingbird does not feature supernatural elements which are arguably
some of the most prominent features of Gothic literature it can still be considered a Gothic novel
since it fulfills most of the other criteria. Furthermore, due to addressing social issues and morally
ambiguous characters, it classifies as a Southern Gothic novel without a

The Trouble with Violence in Northern Ireland Essay
In the past century we have experienced a vast majority of violent acts towards minority groups
such as blacks, Jews, homosexuals and others. According to BBC the Troubles of Northern Ireland
represent one of the latest examples of religious, ethnic, geographic and political conflict. The
Troubles started in the late 1960s and it is considered by many to have ended with the BelfastGood
Friday Agreement of 1998. After more than 30 years of civil conflict, peace had finally been
achieved. However, random violence acts have continued since then. How did the Belfast Good

The IRA targeted soldiers and policemen, but while doing so they killed civilians. To keep them
apart, the capital, Belfast transformed into a war zone, and walls were built to prevent the groups
from attacking each other. For many years Belfast was known as the Barricaded city . Protestants
also formed groups, which carried out attacks against Catholics. In the 1970s and 1980s,
approximately 3,000 people were killed, with many more injured. Despite the Protestants majority,
the creation of Northern Ireland did not bring security to them because it was clear that London
was never as committed to the Union as the Protestants were. The Protestant leaders assumed that
the new state could only exist if they had the power therefore they made sure that their power
should be both strong and permanent. As result they changed the voting system and the electoral
boundaries (gerrymandering). Nationalists and Catholics were considered as second class citizens,
and dangerous to the state. They were seen with being less deserving of jobs and houses than their
Protestant neighbors, they were discriminated in the public service, in education as well. The
representatives of Nationalists and Catholics were also banned from political power and influence.
In addition to being discriminated they were also complaining to the government because of the use
of special powers against republicans.

Pros Of Music Therapy
In the 1940 s music therapy began to be recognized as its own organized profession
(musictherapy.org). According to the CAMT (Canadian Association for Music Therapy), music
therapy is: The skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to
promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health... (Lightstone 40).
It has been used as a healing process since ancient times. Over 2,500 years ago, Hippocrates, the
father of modern medicine, would use such practices to treat his mentally ill patients (Graf 2).
Today, musictherapy is becoming more popular. The use of music as medicine is beneficial to
many people as it is easily accessible, inexpensive and free of any harmful side effects (Thompson,
Schlaug 6). According to Thompson and Schlaug, music therapyhas proven to be beneficial to those

College Student s Perception Of Depressed Mood
Summary: College Student s Perception of Depressed Mood

Component One: Background Information The article College Students Perceptions of Depressed

experiences (i.e., drinking, drug use, etc) to moods and behaviors to determine if students under ,
over , or correctly estimate the prevalence of sadness, depression, and suicide ideation in
themselves and other students. A well as how their gender is associated to these findings.
Moreover, this article focuses on the field of psychology and the objective of this article is to
convey the multiple factors that coincide with the determination of depressive moods/behaviors,
and how a student is able to detect these moods/behaviors in others. For example, some students
predicted an overestimate of sadness, depression, and suicidal tendencies in their peers because of
the other negative factors associated with these cognitive tendencies, such as substance abuse,
relationship abuse, and drinking after driving. Gender also plays a role in this study, as researchers
predicted that males had a tendency to underestimate sadness, depression, and suicidal tendencies
because of previous studies. Overall, factors such as gender and lifestyle choices, can influence
students and their ability to predict sadness, depression, and suicidal tendencies, which is displayed

Examples Of Lying In Huckleberry Finn
Lying is known as a bad thing, but sometimes it can be used for good. Dishonesty just depends
on how you utilize it. In the story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain you will
see lying happening very often. When Huckleberry Finn lies it is usually for a good purpose.
While the king and duke use it for more greedy reasons. Huckleberry Finn was a very caring
character to me. He used his lying for the good things in life. Everybody in their lifetime lies at
some point, and hopefully most of the time it s for the better. For example, Huck was often lying
to protect or help his friend Jim. In particular, when Huck and Jim stumble across a couple of men

to him, so he would rather just tell little lies to keep Jim out of trouble. Not only does Huck lie for
unselfish reasons, but he also feels very bad when he does lie. For instance, Huck feels very
dishonest for lying to Mary Jane and her sisters. Huckleberry Finn feels bad that the sisters have
given these two frauds all the money and property, so he decides to tell Mary Jane the truth about
them. Don t you holler. Just set still, and take it like a man. I got to tell the truth, and you want

Hugh Everett III was an American physicist who created the relative state formulation. I can relate
to his experience as an atheist in a predominantly religious society. Hugh Everett was born in
Washington D.C. in 1930. Everett attended St. John s College during high school, and was
accepted into The Catholic University of America for undergraduate chemical engineering. During
World War II, Everett s father was stationed in West Germany, and Everett took a year off to join

This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum
physics, which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s
theory, first conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in
quantum mechanics. That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic
scale when compared to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows
for the superposition of particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been
observer directly, nor does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent
these states, as predicted by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective
measurement with absolute determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that
the change over time of a wave function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to
directly contradict this. Whenever a quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes
the superposition of possible states for that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting
the wave function s evolution. The way that the wave function collapses does not appear to
correlate with the information conferred by the wave function prior to its measurement, and the
collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. This interpretation physically separates the
quantum realm from the rest of reality, including the

How Are Women Portrayed in Robert Browning’s
†Porphyria...
During the nineteenth century people were under a strict patriarchal rule, especially the women.
In those times, women were seen as ornaments a momentary toy of passion to the society and
properties to be traded within marriage, therefore, Victorian moralists repressed female
sexuality. As a result, for a woman to admit she even had sexual desires was considered sinful,
let alone acting on those desires like Porphyria did was borderline criminal. Moreover, when
Porphyria glided in she untied her hat and let her damp hair fall . Victorian moralists referred to
female fornicators as fallen women. Additionally, committing adultery was also a sin as it went
against one of the Ten Commandments Thou shall not commit adultery , therefore, Porphyria
letting her hair fall could symbolise the boundaries she had willingly chosen to overstep by
coming to meet her lover. The title Porphyria s Lover may indicate to the reader the idea that the
lover would be the only active article in the poem, especially if it was written by a male during
those times. However, at the beginning of the poem Porphyria is immediately given the active
role, she s the one who glided in wanting to visit him for love of her.../ through wind and rain , she
also shut the out cold and storm . This gives Porphyria a masculine physical ability as she has the
power to shut...out something as sinewy as a storm, which goes against the female stereotype. The

Ewaste and the Basel Convention
Our world is constantly changing around us, with technology regularly advancing and improving.
Old technology and devices are being exchanged for newer objects. These discarded items contain
hazardous waste (both to human health and the environment) and more waste is created during the
manufacturing process. This creates a vast amount of electronic waste, henceforth referred to as
ewaste. The amount of ewaste is growing exponentially; according to the US Environmental
Protection Agency an estimate of 5 to 10 percent increase worldwide is expected each year (STEP
Initiative). Even more alarming is that only 5% of this amount is being recovered and is properly
disposed (STEP Initiative). Today s globally interconnected economy ensures that there is no county
in the world that does not have a hazardous wasteproblem (Basel Convention, Simplified Text).
Despite this being a global problem, there are very few international laws concerning the regulation
of ewaste, except for the UN Basel Convention and its more recent declarations, instead with
countries being left to come up with their own laws. International Laws also contain broad
definitions of what constitutes ewaste. The Basel Convention on the Control of Trans boundary
Movements of Hazardous Wastes heralded a new era in international cooperation with regard to
dealing in trans boundary trade in hazardous waste, and also guidelines and regulations to ensure
proper disposal by the countries. This paper aims to address

Masculinity And Its Impact On Society

The accepted male type buys brand clothes, flashy cars, is heterosexual, handsome, tall, with
pretty girlfriends, athletic, and strong. These characteristics create a social rank in schools,
workplaces, and groups of friends (Phillips, 514). It is not ideal for everyone to become popular,
many are outcasts and are not accepted because they do not fit this criterion. This has created the
list of outcasts male traits: homosexual, weakling, wears glasses, unfashionable, unathletic,
emotional, and no attachments with girls whatsoever (Phillips, 513 514). The average guy
spends too much time trying to meet these unrealistic expectations and this causes a decrease in
one s self esteem. These traits are often seen on social platforms that have caused men to look at

feminine color, feminine behavior, or listening to girly music is considered to be less manly.
Males are taught to be the man of the house, strong, powerful, but sometimes they re belittled by

Description Of A Multiplayer Online League Of Legends
If one has never played a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game before (commonly referred to as a
MOBA) it can seem like a daunting and yet entertaining task. After taking the time to select and
download the game you are wanting to play, such as Smite, Dota 2, and the most popular game
currently, League of Legends. Each gamebegins with the player picking a character with unique
abilities, and getting teamed up with 4 other players with the objective of getting to the opposing
teams base on the opposite side of the map and destroying it. To get there, they have 3 different
lanes they can run down, and a fourth lane of sorts running down the middle of the field, known as
the jungle. This lane connects to the other three, and provides fast... Show more content on

Early in the game, team members will split up and use certain lanes based off their character
abilities and roles set forth in their common usage and design. For example, someone whose
character heals others or can take a lot of damage defensively might pair up with another player
whose abilities mean they need protection early in the game until they level up and gain more
power and defense. With this level of teamwork in place, ideally players would pay attention in
the character selection screen and pick a character that fills a role currently needed by the rest of
the team. Unfortunately, just as in real life this does not usually happen, since other people might
have their own reasons for playing as a certain avatar. This extends out on to the playing field,
with people wandering the field as they like, leaving their teammates or even entire lanes
defenseless and open for attack. This also makes players more prone to attack from an enemy, and
in this game killing someone on the other team leads to a decent amount of gold and experience for
the other team, making them a stronger opponent, a move known as feeding the enemy. Sometimes
this is all just happening due to a gamers inexperience, and they ll issue a quick sorry in chat before

Antigone Tragic Hero Essay
According to Aristotle, the main idea of a tragic hero is a person who brings about feelings of
pity or of fear for their situation in an audience (Hogue, Tragic Hero). The character will cause a
series of events that will lead to their tragic downfall, which is normally their death. In the case of
The Oedipus Plays of Sophocles, the story of Antigone evokes the most pity from the audience.
At the beginning of her story, she realizes that she is breaking a law set by Creon, but that doesn t
sway her decision. She will honor the death of her brother even if it causes her own; she is
extremely loyal to her family, and also too stubborn to allow the threat of death that hangs above
her head to change her mind. Antigone is the true tragic hero... Show more content on

On page 193 Ismene, Antigone s sister, says Remember how our father died:/ hated, in disgrace,
/ self dismantled in horror of himself,/ his own hand stabbing out his sight./ And how his mother
wife in one/ twisted off her earthly days with cord; And thirdly how our two brothers in a single
day/ each achieved for each a suicidal nemesis (Sophocles 193). Ismene was trying to persuade
her sister to follow the law that Creon made so that Antigone would not meet the fate that her
father, mother, and brothers met. However, the fate that Antigone suffered was just as tragic as
the rest of the house of Oedipus if no more so. She, like her mother, hanged herself, but she died
trying to show her deceased brother some respect. While the reasons for Jocasta s death were that
of shame and guilt, Antigone s death showed loyalty and bravery. Her father took away a gift that
the gods gave him, and her brothers killed each other over the throne, but she stood for what she
believed in while respecting the unspoken laws that the gods set. She was a hero, and a hero
fighting against what they believe to be wrong should not be sentenced to death by a corrupt

  • 2. The Stereotypes Of Reality Television What once started as every day, regular people appearing on television shows have now morphed into celebrities and want to be celebrities competing for attention and doing almost anything to receive it on primetime television. The genre of television, which was once jumpstarted by the appeal of relatable people, who could be the viewers next door neighbors, being featured has since disappeared and been replaced by a monstrosity that does not accurately portray reality and often stereotypes people (Huff). One specific group that has been targeted by what reality televisionhas morphed into is women. The new version of reality televisionis specifically adequate at encouraging gender culture, the set of behaviors or practices associated with masculinity and femininity (Huff). Reality television enforces gender roles and negatively impacts feminism in today s society. Reality television sexualizes women, portrays them as dependent on and less superior to men, and exemplifies them as dramatic, catty, and often only as homemakers. The portrayal and stereotyping of women on reality television is demoralizing and can be described as the contemporary backlash against feminism ( Reality TV ). These false and demeaning stereotypes are prevailed in all types of reality television shows, making their impact extensive, considering Americans spend one third of their spare time watching television and of that time sixty seven percent is spent watching reality television ( Reality ... The Importance and History of the Steam Engine Essay The wonderful progress of the present century is, in a very great degree, due to the invention and improvement of the steam engine, and to the ingenious application of its power to kinds of work that formerly taxed the physical energies of the human race. ~Robert H. Thurston The steam engine can easily be considered the single most important invention of the entire industrial revolution. There is not one part of industry present in today s society that can be examined without coming across some type of reference or dependence upon the steam engine. But, who deserves the credit for this great invention? Some give the credit to James Watt while others claim that Thomas Newcomen was the original inventor. However, the idea of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thurston. The idea using the power of steam to our advantage goes back nearly twenty one centuries. A learned writer in ancient Alexandria, named Hero, wrote a manuscript describing various devices and ideas of the time. Although it is not proven that Hero was the inventor of any of these devices, he is given credit for the earliest mention of steam power. Hero describes a method to open the doors of a temple with the action of a fire on the alter at the front of the temple. A series of pipes runs between the alter and the temple doors. The force of the steam created by the fire on the alter is strong enough to open the temple doors. The essential principle that Hero used was to change heat energy into mechanical energy or work. Supposedly, Hero continued his work and ended up creating what is often called the First Steam Engine. Hero s engine is featured on below on the right. The cauldron or bowl like portion AB holds water. There is a steam tight cover place over top of the cauldron. Two pipes extend from the lid and suspend a globe directly above the cauldron. The water is heated, causing steam to be created and forced through the pipes. The globe then fills with steam. Pipes K and H are located on opposite sides of the globe and allow the steam to escape when the pressure becomes uneven. The escaping steam then causes the globe to spin on its axis. The power ... The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and the solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater. Background Information I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of potable water for human consumption. Water is a ... Its thinness results in less resistance during the process of pushing solvent molecules across the semipermeable membrane. Consequently, less pressure needs to be generated, cutting the energy costs of desalination by between 15 46% . In order for the graphene to work as a semipermeable membrane, it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but small enough to prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the pores is one nanometer . In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible methods : helium ion bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of graphene for desalination is still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is creating graphene semipermeable membranes with pores of the right size on a large enough ... It is hard for any artist of any kind to keep everyone amazed by their work, especially in a time when their work would not be credited as much as it should. When Moby Dick was released Marx had suffered financial trouble and no exceptional critique for his work. I agree with Marx on the concept that Melville s wrote this book on the social standards for workers in the late 1800 s, and the alienation they face. Melville refused to write books that the public desired or what the standards of writing topics should be in that day of age. According to Marx alienation means, the process whereby the worker is made to feel foreign to the products of his/her own labor. That s how Melville must have felt, alienated by the people around him. Melville worked hard to write his books, and wanted the praise for his work .However the people of Melville s time wasn t ready for his work, and they isolated the genius behind his work. Melville is like Bartleby, which was fascinated by the narrator at first because he said, I would prefer not to. When he is asked to do something. • 9. Quebec Nationalism And Quebec Secessionism It is crucial to understand the population of Quebec in terms of how likely certain demographics are to support sovereignty. Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note that constituencies with a high percentage of young adults are very likely to be in favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high, such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally, ridings with high numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support sovereignty and parties such as the Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is, these individuals directly experienced the surge in confidence and economic advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to the province (Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a viable and legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Theme Of Character Development In To Kill A Mockingbird The two main storylines in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird are the trial of Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a girl, and the mystery around Arthur Boo Radley. Throughout the story, we can see the character development of young Jean Louise Scout Finch through these two events which is one of the indicators that this book falls into the category of Coming of age literature. Other characters include a hero, a villain, a madman, ruffians or even supernatural beings. This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics, which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s theory, first conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in quantum mechanics. That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic scale when compared to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows for the superposition of particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been observer directly, nor does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent these states, as predicted by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective measurement with absolute determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that the change over time of a wave function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to directly contradict this. Whenever a quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes the superposition of possible states for that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting the wave function s evolution. The way that the wave function collapses does not appear to correlate with the information conferred by the wave function prior to its measurement, and the collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. This interpretation physically separates the quantum realm from the rest of reality, including the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. How Are Women Portrayed in Robert Browning’s †Porphyria... During the nineteenth century people were under a strict patriarchal rule, especially the women. In those times, women were seen as ornaments a momentary toy of passion to the society and properties to be traded within marriage, therefore, Victorian moralists repressed female sexuality. As a result, for a woman to admit she even had sexual desires was considered sinful, let alone acting on those desires like Porphyria did was borderline criminal. Moreover, when Porphyria glided in she untied her hat and let her damp hair fall . Victorian moralists referred to female fornicators as fallen women. Additionally, committing adultery was also a sin as it went against one of the Ten Commandments Thou shall not commit adultery , therefore, Porphyria letting her hair fall could symbolise the boundaries she had willingly chosen to overstep by coming to meet her lover. The title Porphyria s Lover may indicate to the reader the idea that the lover would be the only active article in the poem, especially if it was written by a male during those times. Old technology and devices are being exchanged for newer objects. These discarded items contain hazardous waste (both to human health and the environment) and more waste is created during the manufacturing process. This creates a vast amount of electronic waste, henceforth referred to as ewaste. The amount of ewaste is growing exponentially; according to the US Environmental Protection Agency an estimate of 5 to 10 percent increase worldwide is expected each year (STEP Initiative). Even more alarming is that only 5% of this amount is being recovered and is properly disposed (STEP Initiative). Today s globally interconnected economy ensures that there is no county in the world that does not have a hazardous wasteproblem (Basel Convention, Simplified Text). Despite this being a global problem, there are very few international laws concerning the regulation of ewaste, except for the UN Basel Convention and its more recent declarations, instead with countries being left to come up with their own laws. International Laws also contain broad definitions of what constitutes ewaste. The Basel Convention on the Control of Trans boundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes heralded a new era in international cooperation with regard to dealing in trans boundary trade in hazardous waste, and also guidelines and regulations to ensure proper disposal by the countries.
