After I paid and took my order, I looked around and there was an empty table in the corner. The
tables and the floor were cleaned as soon as a customer leaves. I noticed a small group of young
boys and girls entering in the McDonalds' shop. They were all different nationalities (Greek,
German, Nigerian and Italian). Maybe there were students to the local university. They ordered their
meal and sat near to my table. They were too loud and started talking about their new–year plans.

there were people who were reading magazines, newspaper and books. In the entrance, a Chinese
couple entered, they seemed like tourists as they had a map and a camera in their hand. During my
presence in the shop, I noticed the division of labour comprised of more female staff than male. The
reason behind such distribution of labour may be the timings that I chose to observe. The day
timings may be more of comfort for the female staff and the night shifts might have more male

anyone that it is only one sided. There are many causes and outcomes of poverty. The complete
opposite of directly suffering from living in poverty is called indirect poverty; this type affects
people who have to pay taxes, in order to help those who cannot help themselves. Nonetheless,
people directly affected by poverty live day by day, with a constant fear of what the future has in
store for them, which in reality, is much worse. The importance of the definition will help one be

Poverty has increasingly become a noticeable issue worldwide over the past couple of decades. With
the middle class steadily decreasing, considerable amounts of people are becoming part of the lower
class, and even more of our world's population are beginning to live in poverty. It is important to
understand there are different definitions of poverty, and that is largely determined by what each
country's government determines as the cut off of poverty, otherwise known as the 'poverty line'.
Although some people could live above the poverty line, and still be struggling financially, it goes

that there was a significant rise in women's poverty statistics. More female–headed households were

been deemed the 'feminization of poverty', which according research is not only a growing problem

issue in the United States shows that female–headed households is by far the fastest growing type of
family structure, and due to the fact there is a growing poverty level amongst this group, it now
means that approximately half of the all the poor in the United States live in a women–headed

debated for many years in politics, between academics and with regular people. The problem that is

Poverty can be defined as absolute and relative allow this is a very debatable definition and has a lot
of interpretations.
It can be based on a various idea of provisions and the very minimum of survival, this is the
impression of absolute poverty. The measuring of absolute poverty is limited to martial deprivation
and a price of the basic essentials in life, people that can not afford the basic essentials are deemed
to be in absolute poverty, unable to maintain even basic provision levels (Baldock,2012, p.85–86).
Households with below 60% of the median income in some base year, usually 2010/2011 are in
absolute low income. "Absolute income measure looks at whether living standards at the bottom of
the distribution are improving over time" (Great Britain. House of commons library, 2016, p.3–4).
One of the first people to attempt the defining and measuring of absolute poverty was Seebohm
Rowntree (1871–1954), he established a basic minimum income which if below provision was not
possible. In 1899 he discovered that a third of working class households in York, when measured
were in absolute poverty. His third survey in 1950 (York) it showed that 1.5% had dropped in his
total sample, leading to arguments that poverty in the UK had effectively been abolished. However,
the concept of absolute poverty is still argued today and is very much still debated and interpreted
(Baldock,2012, p85–86).

define and operationalise the concept of AP; in 1995 The United Nations defined AP as a condition

What the article may have insinuated was that of the importance of care for the elderly, but also may
have enforced elderly stereotypes. The articled talked about getting intensive geriatric service

The organization that I volunteered for was Harvest House through the CCE program. "Harvest
House is an intensive rehabilitative program which provides a variety of integrated and varied life
skills training for its member" (Orgsync). Harvest house is a place for both men and women with
severe and chronic mental illness are able to gain community support and participate in services that
focus on facilitating appropriate socialization, adaptive coping skills, improving self–confidence,
and learning how to live with their mental disability. The particular activity that I participated in was
receiving donated clothes from designated areas and bringing the clothes to the men and women at
the Harvest House. The individuals who participate are living in severe poverty; some receiving as
little as $50 a month from the Harvest House organization and having no other income. Harvest
House works with both its members and professional staff who provide food to the members and set
up meetings for them to interact with each other. The donated clothing that we brought to them is
very helpful because it can provide things such as a winter coat, a scarf, a warm hat, or many other
articles of clothing that these people would not normally be able to afford.

The difference between relative and absolute poverty, is that people that are living in rich
Countries focus more on relative poverty, which means that some people lack resources that other
people take for granted by others. Absolute poverty is a lack of resources that are life threatening to
people. Which means people in absolute poverty lack the nutrition that needs for health and to live a
good life. In low–income countries people have a very low resources of getting the safe drinking
water, food and a good shelter they need to live. Low–income countries see more of absolute
poverty because of the types of resources they have in there countries. Today I believe it would be
harder to end or to but a stop to absolute poverty because it happens more on low–income countries
that are far from the United States.

I believe that there is a way to make things easier for people in the absolute poverty but there is no
other way that countries could just try to end the poverty in low–income countries. Unless some way
we the United States or other high–income countries go over and help out the low–income countries.
Like for a example the church I go to we have vacation bible school every summer with the other
three church in Mowrystown join together and every year during that week we have offering for the
people, and children living in haiti. Also at my church we have the people that travel to haiti some
go often, some go once a year and some people just go once in there life. Over in haiti they are
building a church, we provide them with money to get a drinking well. In that way I believe that
people living in high–income countries can help the low–income countries. All tho there are people
living in poverty in the United States, they are not living in the worst possible poverty like the low–
income countries are
