A Contract Of Employment Contract
A contract of employment is a type of a contract used in labor law to attribute rights and
responsibilities between parties to a contract (Blum, 2007). On the one end stands an employee
who is employed by an employer . A written employment contract is a document that someone
and their employee sign which sets forth the terms and conditions of the employment
relationship (Tepper, 2011). Many rules, exceptions and considerations apply when dealing with
employment contracts. Suppose that the Fabulous Hotel hires you as head chef under a two
year employment contract. After two years, another hotel wants to hire you. However, in the
original employment contract you signed with the fabulous Hotel, the following paragraph
appears: The below signed agrees not to work as a chef for another hotel in the same
metropolitan area for a period of two years after leaving our employ. First, it is crucial to know
and understand which law governs the employment contract. According to Seaquist, contract law
is governed by the common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) (Seaquist, 2012). If the
contract handles the sales of goods, it is governed by the UCC (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract
handles anything besides the sale of goods (such as real estate, insurance, personal services like
employment, etc.) then it is governed by the common law (Seaquist, 2012). When a business or
employer hires an employee to join the staff, the employee enters into a contract that is governed by

Analysis on Swift s Attitude Towards Humanity
Analysis on Swift s Attitude towards Humanity
Introduction
In1726, Jonathan Swift, one of the best known realistic writers in 18th century, published his
book Gulliver s Travels which on the surface is a collection of travel journals of a surgeon called
Lemuel Gulliver but actually is a work of satire on politics and human nature. In the four
incredible adventures, Gulliver s perceptions are tied closely with Swift s shame and disgust
against British government and even against the whole of the human condition as Richard Rodino
says in his book that Gulliver is neither a fully developed character nor even an altogether
distinguishable persona; rather, he is a satiric device enabling Swift to score satirical points.
(Rodino 124) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Hobbes,
Degeneration of Humanity
Swift considers human are not only evil in nature but keep corrupting. The European moralists
say: the nature is degenerated in these latter declining ages of the world, and could now produce
only small abortive births in comparison of those ancient times (Swift 187) In Glubbdubdrib,
people can make ancients appears with magic, Gulliver makes conversation with ancients, and
finds As every person called up made exactly the same appearance he had done in the world, it
gave me melancholy reflections to observe how much the race of mankind was degenerated
among us, within those hundred years past , how all these pure native virtues were prostituded
for a piece of money by their grandchildren (Swift 271) Gulliver is thrown into deep melancholy
as he discover the degeneration of human nature. Not only the ancient virtues are lost, but also
man s physical condition is becoming worse and worse as Swift points out in Gulliver s fourth
voyage to the land of the Houyhnhnms where his satire reaches its pinnacle: I seemed to fail in
strength and agility , He said I differed indeed from other Yahoos, being much more cleanly, and
not altogether so deformed, but in point of real advantage he thought I differed for the worse.
(Swift 322) human s disposition is like Yahoos which is violent and primitive, but human s

For almost 3 years now we have been putting our money where our mouth is...since the summer of

since June of 2014 as Principals in our own specialty coffee farms here in Boquete, Panama.

We also understand that the sustainability we talk about constantly is not only economic. Sure
money counts. But so does the environment and, very importantly, the people who are largely
responsible for growing and producing the specialty coffee we all desperately need every morning
of our lives. These are the people who produce our profits! Providing social sustainability is a
critical pillar in any business model that is going to last for generations to provide a legacy income
for you and your heirs.
At International Coffee Farms we have set aside a full 20% of our coffee farm profits to ensure
the local indigenous Panamanian Indian farmers working for us are cared for properly.
That s true social sustainability!
Increased salaries, improved living and working conditions, new sanitary and laundry facilities
and helping with the kid s educational needs are but a few of the benefits we provide. This
bonus pool exists so that all workers can share in the value created by turning around poorly run
existing commercial coffee farms into professionally run specialty coffee farms. We invest in our
people and we believe they will return the favor by caring for our coffee.

Consequences Associated With Unprotected Sexual Activity
Although many movies and television shows glorify sex and sexual activity, Sex should not be
portrayed as a recreational activity because of the many consequences associated with unprotected
sexual activity. A few of the negative and sometimes devastating effects of casual sex include
diseases such as HIVand HPV. Unplanned pregnancy is also a risk associated with unprotected
sexual activity. Good health is very important to a happy and productive life. Unprotected sexual
activity can lead to illness and death. Unprotected sex can lead to contracting HIV (Human

That does not include the many other expenses involved with raising a child. In addition, an

Rising Action In Red s Riding Hoods
In the short cartoon, Red s Riding Hoods, a classic children s fable is told in a goofy, twisted,
and to the point way. The story revolves around a young lady named Red. Red owns a humble
corner shop that sells riding hoods, which a very wealthy woman finds her way into. The
wealthy woman demands a hood made out of wolf skin, which, to Red s dismay, is not an item
she carries in her store. The rising action begins at this precise moment, for it is then that Red
sets off on her quest to find a wolf to skin. This specific point in the story is the rising action
because it occurs after the exposition, and it leads up to the climax of the cartoon. She calls the
local zookeeper, who tells her that he does not have any extra wolves available to

What Is The Juxtaposition Of Light And Dark
Dark and light, good and evil, joy and sadness, real and imaginary: these are the ideas that iconic
Belgian painter RenГ© Magritte, and other surrealist artists like him, strived to arouse in the minds
of their viewers. Magritte s work features supernatural, often unsettling images which play with the
imagination and confuse the mind. As part of the surrealist movement, Magritte s purpose behind
his paintings was to intrigue people, make them think about the subconscious mind, and to blur
the lines between reality and dreams. In his famous painting, L Empire des lumiГЁres, or The
Empire of Light, a bright, blue, daytime sky full of white clouds appears over a darkened street, a
lonely house, and a thick cover of trees, all shown to be under the... Show more content on

The juxtaposition of light and dark in The Empire of Light may represent the contrast of
everyday elements and ideas present in the world around us. As explained by Michael Glover,
night and day are present simultaneously. This is unnerving, the simultaneity of daylight and
darkness. It disturbs us visually and morally. Can light co habit with darkness, good with evil?
Well, yes, man is such a patchwork creature of light and dark, the will to do good, the propensity
to choose evil (Glover, para. 3). At first the main effect this painting has on the observer is
confusion; night and day cannot exist together in the same place at the same time, after all.
After observing it in more detail, though, many symbols and themes begin to arise. Considering
the contrast between light values used, the day and night in this image could represent the
clichГ© symbols of good and evil, or joy and sadness, respectively. Just as both times of day are
present in this painting, so are these emotions and traits present in everyday life; they exist
always and everywhere. By analyzing not only the painting itself, but the title as well, this theme
becomes more apparent. Several versions of its title exist due to translation issues, and many
refer to this piece as The Dominion of Light instead. This could mean that the light portrayed in
this painting is dominating the darkness, because of its placement above the shadow, and, in fact,
it is showing the dominion of light over darkness or purity over corruption. This piece shows the
power that good has over evil, or that joy has over sadness, while portraying both of the latter as
an impenetrable veil of darkness and the former as the bright clarity of the sky. The use of light
sources and contrast between value in The Empire of Light contributes to this theme of light and
dark, purity and wickedness, or joy and sadness. This interpretation also

What Is The Tone In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, arguably the best and most well known epic poem there is, is full of
literary elements that bring the story it s fame. With its events being told by Odysseus after he
already experienced them, Homer has the opportunity to write with a level of dramatics that isn t
often seen in other literary works. He uses this to his advantage, developing tone and theme and
other literary elements in the best possible way. Homer uses diction in The Odysseyto create a tone
of anticipation. In The Land of the Dead, Homer s use of the word somber creates an anticipating
tone. In line 630, Homer writes ...he bent down to the somber blood, depicting the moment when

Identity in a Color Conscious Society in Invisible Man
Critics generally agree that Ralph Ellison s award winning novel, Invisible Man, is a work of
genius, broad in its appeal and universal in its meaning. Its various themes have been stated as: the
geography of hell . . . the real brotherhood of man (Morris 5), the emergence of Negro personality
from the fixed boundaries of southern life (Bone 46), and the search for human and national identity
(Major 17). Rich in symbolism and cleverly interwoven, Invisible Man s linear plot structure, told
from the first person, limited point of view, and framed by the Everyman protagonist from his

Critic Todd Libber points out that invisibility results from a perception each society holds to be
true. What does not fit into that idea of reality is therefore assigned to chaos and is invisible (90).
The rising action takes root at the time when, on his death bed, the narrator s grandfather reveals
to the family that the life of a black person living in a foreign white America has always been and
still is a life of war and opposition, and to keep up the fight. This puzzles the young
impressionable narrator, for his grandfather has been the meekest of men who, as is further
revealed, believes himself to have been a traitor and a spy all these years, and that his meekness
has, in actuality, been a dangerous activity. The tactics of agree em to death and undermine em
with grins (15,16) are the tools that enable the Negro to survive, in essence agreeing to invisibility,
until blindness strikes down white society (Margolies 135). Thus, Grandfather s words establish
and foreshadow the cultural beliefs, such as racism and bigotry that the young narrator will
encounter in a prejudicial society as he navigates his way through the social mine fields of America.
Further, the surreal circus like atmosphere that envelopes race relations in our country is no
laughing matter. Indeed, as the narrator tucks away enough experiences for a gradual dawning to

Overview of Scientific Management
Scientific Management
Frederick Taylor is the originator of the system labeled scientific management. In his book, The
Principles of Scientific Management (1911) Taylor examines the struggle between management and
labor for the control of production. To control production, he developed techniques for the measure
and design of machining methods as part of a general plan for increasing the planning functions of
management. Taylor s fundamental concept and guiding principle was to design a production
system that would involve both men and machines and that would be as efficient as a well
designed, well oiled machine. Time studies were used to allow management to take control of the
operations, thereby controlling production methods, and, by default, production. This system
required that management take an active role in the factory and through engineers and salaried
foremen take greater control over operations (Backer, 1998).
Taylor developed his principles of management while a machinist and foreman at the Midvale
Steel Company of Philadelphia. Taylor was bothered by, what was called worker soldiering, the
practice of purposely stalling or slowing down work by the workers. Taylor believed that the
objective of workers when they stalled was to keep their employers ignorant of how fast work can
be done.
Taylor believed the principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for
the employer along with the maximum prosperity for employees. He asserted

Feminism In The Merchant Of Venice
In the society of Venice, the social system called patriarchy is quite ordinary. The feminist
literary criticism attempts to analyze patriarchies, where men hold the majority of power, while
women are denied access of it. In the sought after play called, The Merchant Of Venice, by
William Shakespeare, women are treated unequally to men. Furthermore, women are not
allowed to choose their own husbands as well as given a chance to solve legal disputes. As
proven in the play, the patriarchal society of Venice over rules women. When men failed to use
compassion in their society, women are able to solve problems by getting involved. A man
named Bassanio from Belmont is in love with a woman named Portia who comes from Venice.
In order to impress Portia, he is in dire need of money. Bassanio looks to his friend Antonio who
is able to receive a loan from a man named Shylock in Venice. When Antonio fails to pay back the
money, he must in return give a piece of his flesh away. Although Antonio made a deal with
Shylock, the men fail to recognize how painful it would be if they were to sacrifice their own
flesh. This discrepancy calls for capable women who can bring in a sense of compassion for
Antonio. Although limited by their society, Portia and Nerissa decide they have the power to
create a resolution. This leads the women to dressing up as men in order to have a say in the case.
While trying to settling the dispute, Shylock continues to refuse anything short of the

The Challenges In Sports And The Socialization Of Sports...
In North America, sports are an important for socialization. The definition of socialization from
the book Sports in Society by Jay Coakley is a process of learning and social development, which
occurs as we interact with one another and become familiar with the social worlds. Sports is an
easy way for socializationbut it is also other thing that can do the same as sports. I believe that
sports is important for socialization from my own experience but it is not necessary for
everyone. Sports are essential in American Society. It s practically everywhere in people s lives.
If everyone was asked about what their favorite sport is, they could answer quickly. Sports is a
microcosm in the U.S. It makes up a big portion of American culture. Some people have been in
sports as a young kid by the parents so their kids can learn how to socialize. Kids learn how to be
normal with coaches, officials, parents, and other children. The question is, should we put our
kids in sports to socialize? I say yes, but the behavior of the child should be monitored. If the
child is not doing well, then he/she should be taken out and put in something else. From my
experience, I played football at the age of 7. I can t remember too many things about me
socializing too much. I feel like I was a loner with others but at home I was comfortable and
social. For children in Middle, I believe that sports or some form of extracurricular activity is
important for socialization. That is the age where

Essay Texas Government
The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of
many different levels. The question comes in to everyone s mind at one time or another whether
or not to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take
advantage of their power, or simply people don t like the idea of being controlled by someone who
is not a family member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the governmentis divided into
stages and this is a reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it
does deserve to be trusted. Our government here in Texashas three major parts that play a
significant part in our decision making process. These levels... Show more content on

Even further simplifying this are sub committees which are divisions of the standing committees.
This simplification process has a lot do with why the government is trustworthy. If you take into
consideration the amount of levels that it takes to get something done, then there is almost no
possible way that the power can be obtained by one person. If issues are brought about, or
arguments are carried out, then the Conference Committees are there to resolve these differences.
The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. This power is nothing more
than that of a celebrity status. Although the Governor has the power to appoint independent
boards and commissions, the senate has to confirm these appointments. This is called senatorial
courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the GovernorВ‘s
ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. This increases the GovernorВ‘s popularity and
prestige, and broadens the image of the office. One important power or role that the Governor is
responsible for is coordinating relations between Texas and other states. This can definitely be an
important factor. For example, the need of federal aid during the time of an emergency can require
the help of other states. The Governor also acts as the Chief Budget officer of the state. Even
though the presiding officer presides over this office, the Governor does have some control.

Analysis Of Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away My Love
Fortune fine or poor, remains a top priority in Sir Walter Raleigh s poem, Fortune Hath Taken
Thee Away, My love. Each stanza is drenched in depressing diction; as a result, not much of the
poem can be taken so literally. There are six quatrains in this poem: In the first quatrain, the
author introduces to the reader he has lost his love because fortune took it or her away; never in
the poem does the author give a specific answer as to who or what his love is. Although, in the
third line, Raleigh does refer to his love as princess, so we could assume the subject of this poem
and his love is female. Continuing on to the second quatrain, the man goes on to say fortune
took away everything from him, just by taking his love away. Because of this, the author now
makes fortune, itself, a mortal enemy. Next, in the third quatrain, the author becomes angry,
telling himself all of the reactions to the loss are in vain. He curses his eyes for weeping, his
sighs and his continued search for his love. Moving into the fourth quatrain, the author accepts
sorrow as his new princess, in place of the one he lost; he begins to accept his new loss. In

Lesser Prairie-Chicken Argumentative Essay
Education is vital to improve this threatened species from extinction
The Endangered Species Act of 1973 states that the terms Endangered and/or threatened may be
used when a species is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range, or
are likely to become endangered within the foreseeable future. The Lesser Prairie Chicken (LPC)
was placed on the threatened species list in the spring of 2014. Since the early 1800 s the
population of the LPC has declined significantly (NRCS Leaflet 1). I am a 2nd year Pathways
Rangeland Student Intern for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). I have worked
in the Natural Resources field for 12 years and have come to an understanding that informing the
public is vital for the continuation of the earth, as we know it. In this informative and argumentative
essay I will describe how habitat loss, climatic changes (both natural and human caused), and human
activities have and continue to push this species to the brink. Educating private landowners and the
public is key to produce resistant plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mission of the NRCS is to help producers understand the need for vegetative cover during all
seasons, so that soils are not lost and increasing the producers yield for the benefit of both the
producer and the nation. We develop property management plans, restoration plans, crop rotation
guidance and many other services that aid producers. Keeping in mind what I have stated about
the LPC habitat and the guidance available from the NRCS, these are a list of best management
practices (BMP s) that can be implemented by producers to improve both native rangelands, crops
and wildlife habitat. The cost sharing programs will be discussed afterwards.

What is meditation? Meditation is intentionally self regulating attention from a moment to another.
It is a self regulated process carried out by people to focus to relax and calm the body and mind.
Meditation focusses on forgetting everything and giving attention only to inner self. As exercise if
for the body, meditation is for the mind. In Latin, the meaning of the word, Meditari means to think
or to dwell upon and mederi means to heal. The Sanskrit derivation of this is medha that means
wisdom . Meditation is practiced as it has positive effect on psychological and physical health.
Meditation helps increasing cerebral blood flow, keeping rate of heart and respiration normal,
decreasing muscle tension and also helps in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Meditation can be done in various styles. Some styles of meditation are Mudra Yoga, Chakra Yoga,
Sufism, Rinzai Zen, Yoto Zen and Buddhist insight meditation. There are two common and most
beneficial forms of meditation, transcendental meditation and mindfulness meditation. The period
of meditation is called as Zazen. During this period, the practitioners of meditation sit on chair or

fire but it didn t touch Dayron. Instead, it covered Mama and Dayron only got the heat of the

saw that a scary smile had appeared on his face. Why is he smiling? Mama needs help. He needs

Essay about The Human Memory Model
Memory, Thinking, and Intelligence Memory is the process in our brain that the results of learning
are stored for future recall. There are three types of memory, sensory memory, short term memory,
and long term memory. The human memory processing system is comprised of an input or
encoding stage, a storage process, and a retrieval process, the human memoryalso tends to forget
quite a bit of information. Psychologists have many general principles to help us improve our
memory and learning how the memory works will enable us to develop new ways to increase
memory recall. One of the most significant models of memory was the Shiffrin model, also known
as the Modal Model, which was the work of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in 1968... Show

Long term memory is comprised of several systems the two main categories being declarative
memory and non declarative/ procedural memory each processes a different type of
information. Declarative memory stores facts and events which can be formed after a single
trial of a specific event. An example would be the memory of a special day like a wedding, it is
an event that you participated in and you will keep that memory forever. Non declarative
memory stores memories of skills and procedures which are gained during a run of trials. An
example of this would be riding your bike you learned it through a series of trials and most people
can t even remember learning it but it is something you will never forget (Banikowski, A.K., n.d.)
One factor that can enhance retention in the sensory memory are to pay attention, think about what
you are seeing or hearing on a conscious level, the longer you keep it in your conscious the better
chance it will have of moving to your short term memory. Too much information is what can
impede retention in the sensory memory because the human brain can only pay attention to so
much at one time and the time information is in the sensory memory is so short (Davis Palladino,
2010). Short term memory can be enhanced by conscious awareness and rehearsal. There are two
types of rehearsal, maintenance rehearsal which is repeating the new information over and

Scout Reflection
On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their
Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever
been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up
to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a
considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to
work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these
Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced
myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by
asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed
busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I
had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to bettergrab the scouts
attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of
the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical
surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know
enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting
the scouts. However, the scout leaders were

3d Printing In Archaeology
Will 3D printing revolutionize our understanding of archaeology? 3D printing is a captivating
advancement of technology that has profuse uses. Different from all the previous manufacturing
methods, 3D printing generates a product in an additive mode to form an intricate three
dimensional object, and therefore has the ability to produce the most complicated irregular object.
This unique characteristic deems it highly impactful for archaeology, where the structures of
historical human forms and the tools they used are often very complicated and unique, and there
are currently no simple means to reproduce and study them. Clearly, 3D printingand scanning has
many useful benefits to archaeology, and there is definitely room for improvement.... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, plastic is the main material in most printers, and this material biodegrades
EXTREMELY slowly: 450 to 1,000 years! This would create a serious environmental problem if
objects were discarded and thrown into landfills, especially because technology is bound to
become cheaper, and this will lead to more people owning personal 3D printers. Another
worrying aspect is the fact that guns and other weapons can be 3D printed with ease, though it
would take quite a long time. Already some people own their own 3D printer, and the numbers
are sure to rise in the following decades. It will be quite difficult to keep tabs on the printers,
causing a dangerous issue. Of course, if the trouble increases, it is always possible for the
government to set a law stating that only individuals with a license can own 3D printers. The
difficulties don t end there, though. Consider this dilemma. If every single human in the world
owned a personal 3D printer and scanner, what would happen to businesses? If there was a
product someone took interest in, they could simply print it at home without spending any
money! In archaeology, complications arise as well. In order to print larger artifacts, you need a
substantially larger 3D printer. If you were to replicate a house, a relatively sizable printer would
be required, along with a large stock of plastic and a printer larger than a house. This also means
that the cost of

During the first half of the twentieth century segregation was the way of life in the south. It was

at all. African Americans were treated as if they were a somehow sub human, they were treated
because of the color of their skin that somehow, someway they were different.
In the south it was almost impossible to find any aspect of life that was not segregated. The schools
were segregated and the restaurants were segregated. There was Colored Only bathrooms, and
Colored Only drinking fountains and segregation was definitely present in public transportation.

The boycott needed something to really publicize it, something that would make it a point of
interest. It needed something that open peoples eyes to what was happening in Montgomery. If
something did happen it could have a positive effect on the outcome of the Bus Boycott.
On February 21, 1956 M.L.K and 88 other priests and leaders of the boycott were indicted under an
old state law prohibiting boycotts. The arrests of these men caused a story of national interest,
pointing all eyes of the country on the boycott going on in Montgomery. Since, M.L.K was the
president the M.I.A, much of the attention given to the boycott was focused on M.L.K himself.

beliefs on non violence and civil rights.

programs is the first. There are many different types to the social insurance program. The first
two are OASDHI and Medicare. OASDHI is also known as social security, which replaces wages
lost after retirement. Medicare provides hospital insurance for the elderly and disabled. The
third type is unemployment compensation which allows workers that are unemployed for a
while to collect thirty five percent of their lost wages. The second program is Pubic Assistance.
The first type is Supplemental Security Income(SSI) this program allows disabled people to
receive a minimum income. Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) and Medicaid
usually are linked together. Medicaid will pay for hospital bills. AFDC provides certain families
with children financial support. Medicaid is also offered to SSI recipiances. The food stamp
program is the last type. It provides Americans with coupons that can be used for food. The
government spends about 736 billion of its dollars on these different types of programs. Gentry 3

has a legal responsibility to the military, government, and commercial markets to provide the

they produce any military technologies for the foreign government/powers. When Boeing deals
with the military they are required and mandated to keep some equipment specifications

But what they can and should offer employees, is a tool kit of portable skills, a high level of

Discretionary Approach Essay
Introduction
In viewing the You Tube video Fight at Iso , (Iso 2007), it demonstrates a situation that police
encounter regularly around the Hobart waterfront. The waterfront from 2005 to 2011 was
characterised by unruly behaviour, assaults and was fuelled by a heavy drinking culture. This paper
will discuss the background of similar incidents encountered by police and options for police
responses. These include whether to take action or importantly utilise a discretionary approach by
increasing their presence. Each of these responses will be discussed and demonstrate possible
outcomes for persons involved, as well as the justification of various approaches.

Police have an option to utilise their discretion at the scene by utilising their powers, however; as
outlined in the Tasmania Police manual which guides police: Members are expected to apply
judgement and discretion and, on all occasions, must be able to demonstrate any action taken was

Police historically have valued their ability to utilise discretion where warranted as discussed in

Glistening water, beautiful coral composed of your friendly neighbourhood porifera, but what
lays beyond the cliff of coral into deep, dark waters? PhD student, Erika Raymond, and her PhD
advisor, Edith Widder sent the Eye of the Sea to the Bahamas to observe the unknown waters. A
variety of other scientists came up with their own understandings of deep sea life and how they
differ from the creatures above the waters. One of the characteristics that caught the attention of
scientists were the animals enlarged eyes that adapted to see bioluminescent materials. Scientists
can use this information to improve their technology to help them find and observe in the lab or
at least unobtrusively through a camera deep sea creatures natural ways of living. Scientists are
interested in how the different deep sea species have evolved since the Mesozoic era with very
minimal interactions with humans or man made objects. However, their habitats are too dangerous
for humans; I suspect there would not have been as much evolution as seen in land animals,
considering the fact that in 2004, Raymond and Widder had spotted a 2 metre squid using Eye of

Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom
The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of
African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of
slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no
way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the
sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the
country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and
creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of
death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more
hopeful future.
While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy
attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes s work can mainly be seen as the turning
point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors
and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the
time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn t be until many years later that the
full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and
Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and

Tadashi s Last Kiss
Prose
A prolonged silence engulfed the surrounding distance between the two figures, an icy wind cutting
across the plateau. They watched each other s every move, every twitch and every breath.
You always were a glutton for punishment, Tadashi called out, his sharp voice ringing throughout
the highland. He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight
until he was satisfied.
And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon.
Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and
glassy, lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him.
She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed
around her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his
chest, she was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his swordwith such
strong momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn
t be so easy. Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await
her next strike. Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. A knowing smile
crossed his face and he swivelled on his heels, meeting her attack with the satisfying clang of
metal upon metal. Their eyes met and they stood in the cold, neither daring to break the steely
gaze. Tadashi was prepared to end her life as quickly as

Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires

  • 2. A Contract Of Employment Contract A contract of employment is a type of a contract used in labor law to attribute rights and responsibilities between parties to a contract (Blum, 2007). On the one end stands an employee who is employed by an employer . A written employment contract is a document that someone and their employee sign which sets forth the terms and conditions of the employment relationship (Tepper, 2011). Many rules, exceptions and considerations apply when dealing with employment contracts. Suppose that the Fabulous Hotel hires you as head chef under a two year employment contract. After two years, another hotel wants to hire you. However, in the original employment contract you signed with the fabulous Hotel, the following paragraph appears: The below signed agrees not to work as a chef for another hotel in the same metropolitan area for a period of two years after leaving our employ. First, it is crucial to know and understand which law governs the employment contract. According to Seaquist, contract law is governed by the common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles the sales of goods, it is governed by the UCC (Seaquist, 2012). If the contract handles anything besides the sale of goods (such as real estate, insurance, personal services like employment, etc.) then it is governed by the common law (Seaquist, 2012). Not only the ancient virtues are lost, but also man s physical condition is becoming worse and worse as Swift points out in Gulliver s fourth voyage to the land of the Houyhnhnms where his satire reaches its pinnacle: I seemed to fail in strength and agility , He said I differed indeed from other Yahoos, being much more cleanly, and not altogether so deformed, but in point of real advantage he thought I differed for the worse. (Swift 322) human s disposition is like Yahoos which is violent and primitive, but human s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story revolves around a young lady named Red. Red owns a humble corner shop that sells riding hoods, which a very wealthy woman finds her way into. The wealthy woman demands a hood made out of wolf skin, which, to Red s dismay, is not an item she carries in her store. • 10. What Is The Juxtaposition Of Light And Dark Dark and light, good and evil, joy and sadness, real and imaginary: these are the ideas that iconic Belgian painter RenГ© Magritte, and other surrealist artists like him, strived to arouse in the minds of their viewers. Magritte s work features supernatural, often unsettling images which play with the imagination and confuse the mind. As part of the surrealist movement, Magritte s purpose behind his paintings was to intrigue people, make them think about the subconscious mind, and to blur the lines between reality and dreams. In his famous painting, L Empire des lumiГЁres, or The Empire of Light, a bright, blue, daytime sky full of white clouds appears over a darkened street, a lonely house, and a thick cover of trees, all shown to be under the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The juxtaposition of light and dark in The Empire of Light may represent the contrast of everyday elements and ideas present in the world around us. As explained by Michael Glover, night and day are present simultaneously. This is unnerving, the simultaneity of daylight and darkness. It disturbs us visually and morally. Can light co habit with darkness, good with evil? Well, yes, man is such a patchwork creature of light and dark, the will to do good, the propensity to choose evil (Glover, para. 3). At first the main effect this painting has on the observer is confusion; night and day cannot exist together in the same place at the same time, after all. After observing it in more detail, though, many symbols and themes begin to arise. Considering the contrast between light values used, the day and night in this image could represent the clichГ© symbols of good and evil, or joy and sadness, respectively. Just as both times of day are present in this painting, so are these emotions and traits present in everyday life; they exist always and everywhere. By analyzing not only the painting itself, but the title as well, this theme becomes more apparent. Several versions of its title exist due to translation issues, and many refer to this piece as The Dominion of Light instead. This could mean that the light portrayed in this painting is dominating the darkness, because of its placement above the shadow, and, in fact, it is showing the dominion of light over darkness or purity over corruption. This piece shows the power that good has over evil, or that joy has over sadness, while portraying both of the latter as an impenetrable veil of darkness and the former as the bright clarity of the sky. The use of light sources and contrast between value in The Empire of Light contributes to this theme of light and dark, purity and wickedness, or joy and sadness. This interpretation also ... Identity in a Color Conscious Society in Invisible Man Critics generally agree that Ralph Ellison s award winning novel, Invisible Man, is a work of genius, broad in its appeal and universal in its meaning. Its various themes have been stated as: the geography of hell . . . the real brotherhood of man (Morris 5), the emergence of Negro personality from the fixed boundaries of southern life (Bone 46), and the search for human and national identity (Major 17). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critic Todd Libber points out that invisibility results from a perception each society holds to be true. What does not fit into that idea of reality is therefore assigned to chaos and is invisible (90). The rising action takes root at the time when, on his death bed, the narrator s grandfather reveals to the family that the life of a black person living in a foreign white America has always been and still is a life of war and opposition, and to keep up the fight. This puzzles the young impressionable narrator, for his grandfather has been the meekest of men who, as is further revealed, believes himself to have been a traitor and a spy all these years, and that his meekness has, in actuality, been a dangerous activity. The tactics of agree em to death and undermine em with grins (15,16) are the tools that enable the Negro to survive, in essence agreeing to invisibility, until blindness strikes down white society (Margolies 135). Thus, Grandfather s words establish and foreshadow the cultural beliefs, such as racism and bigotry that the young narrator will encounter in a prejudicial society as he navigates his way through the social mine fields of America. Further, the surreal circus like atmosphere that envelopes race relations in our country is no laughing matter. • 16. Overview of Scientific Management Scientific Management Frederick Taylor is the originator of the system labeled scientific management. In his book, The Principles of Scientific Management (1911) Taylor examines the struggle between management and labor for the control of production. To control production, he developed techniques for the measure and design of machining methods as part of a general plan for increasing the planning functions of management. Taylor s fundamental concept and guiding principle was to design a production system that would involve both men and machines and that would be as efficient as a well designed, well oiled machine. Time studies were used to allow management to take control of the operations, thereby controlling production methods, and, by default, production. This system required that management take an active role in the factory and through engineers and salaried foremen take greater control over operations (Backer, 1998). Taylor developed his principles of management while a machinist and foreman at the Midvale Steel Company of Philadelphia. Taylor was bothered by, what was called worker soldiering, the practice of purposely stalling or slowing down work by the workers. Taylor believed that the objective of workers when they stalled was to keep their employers ignorant of how fast work can be done. Taylor believed the principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for the employer along with the maximum prosperity for employees. He asserted ... • 17. Feminism In The Merchant Of Venice In the society of Venice, the social system called patriarchy is quite ordinary. The feminist literary criticism attempts to analyze patriarchies, where men hold the majority of power, while women are denied access of it. In the sought after play called, The Merchant Of Venice, by William Shakespeare, women are treated unequally to men. Furthermore, women are not allowed to choose their own husbands as well as given a chance to solve legal disputes. As proven in the play, the patriarchal society of Venice over rules women. When men failed to use compassion in their society, women are able to solve problems by getting involved. A man named Bassanio from Belmont is in love with a woman named Portia who comes from Venice. In order to impress Portia, he is in dire need of money. Bassanio looks to his friend Antonio who is able to receive a loan from a man named Shylock in Venice. When Antonio fails to pay back the money, he must in return give a piece of his flesh away. Although Antonio made a deal with Shylock, the men fail to recognize how painful it would be if they were to sacrifice their own flesh. This discrepancy calls for capable women who can bring in a sense of compassion for Antonio. Although limited by their society, Portia and Nerissa decide they have the power to create a resolution. This leads the women to dressing up as men in order to have a say in the case. While trying to settling the dispute, Shylock continues to refuse anything short of the ... I believe that sports is important for socialization from my own experience but it is not necessary for everyone. Sports are essential in American Society. It s practically everywhere in people s lives. If everyone was asked about what their favorite sport is, they could answer quickly. Sports is a microcosm in the U.S. It makes up a big portion of American culture. Some people have been in sports as a young kid by the parents so their kids can learn how to socialize. Kids learn how to be normal with coaches, officials, parents, and other children. The question is, should we put our kids in sports to socialize? I say yes, but the behavior of the child should be monitored. If the child is not doing well, then he/she should be taken out and put in something else. From my experience, I played football at the age of 7. I can t remember too many things about me socializing too much. I feel like I was a loner with others but at home I was comfortable and social. If issues are brought about, or arguments are carried out, then the Conference Committees are there to resolve these differences. The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. • 20. Analysis Of Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away My Love Fortune fine or poor, remains a top priority in Sir Walter Raleigh s poem, Fortune Hath Taken Thee Away, My love. Each stanza is drenched in depressing diction; as a result, not much of the poem can be taken so literally. There are six quatrains in this poem: In the first quatrain, the author introduces to the reader he has lost his love because fortune took it or her away; never in the poem does the author give a specific answer as to who or what his love is. Although, in the third line, Raleigh does refer to his love as princess, so we could assume the subject of this poem and his love is female. Continuing on to the second quatrain, the man goes on to say fortune took away everything from him, just by taking his love away. Because of this, the author now makes fortune, itself, a mortal enemy. Next, in the third quatrain, the author becomes angry, telling himself all of the reactions to the loss are in vain. He curses his eyes for weeping, his sighs and his continued search for his love. Moving into the fourth quatrain, the author accepts sorrow as his new princess, in place of the one he lost; he begins to accept his new loss. In comparison to the second quatrain, in the fifth, the author is almost glad to be able to experience any kind of fortune, due to the fact even kings experience fortune. Finally, in the sixth quatrain the author brings in the supernatural force of Cupid. He goes on to say if Cupid had used wisdom s eyes, the author would not be suffering as ... There are three types of memory, sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory. The human memory processing system is comprised of an input or encoding stage, a storage process, and a retrieval process, the human memoryalso tends to forget quite a bit of information. Psychologists have many general principles to help us improve our memory and learning how the memory works will enable us to develop new ways to increase memory recall. One of the most significant models of memory was the Shiffrin model, also known as the Modal Model, which was the work of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in 1968... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long term memory is comprised of several systems the two main categories being declarative memory and non declarative/ procedural memory each processes a different type of information. Declarative memory stores facts and events which can be formed after a single trial of a specific event. An example would be the memory of a special day like a wedding, it is an event that you participated in and you will keep that memory forever. Non declarative memory stores memories of skills and procedures which are gained during a run of trials. An example of this would be riding your bike you learned it through a series of trials and most people can t even remember learning it but it is something you will never forget (Banikowski, A.K., n.d.) One factor that can enhance retention in the sensory memory are to pay attention, think about what you are seeing or hearing on a conscious level, the longer you keep it in your conscious the better chance it will have of moving to your short term memory. Too much information is what can impede retention in the sensory memory because the human brain can only pay attention to so much at one time and the time information is in the sensory memory is so short (Davis Palladino, 2010). • 26. Scout Reflection On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to bettergrab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were ... • 27. 3d Printing In Archaeology Will 3D printing revolutionize our understanding of archaeology? 3D printing is a captivating advancement of technology that has profuse uses. Different from all the previous manufacturing methods, 3D printing generates a product in an additive mode to form an intricate three dimensional object, and therefore has the ability to produce the most complicated irregular object. This unique characteristic deems it highly impactful for archaeology, where the structures of historical human forms and the tools they used are often very complicated and unique, and there are currently no simple means to reproduce and study them. Clearly, 3D printingand scanning has many useful benefits to archaeology, and there is definitely room for improvement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, plastic is the main material in most printers, and this material biodegrades EXTREMELY slowly: 450 to 1,000 years! This would create a serious environmental problem if objects were discarded and thrown into landfills, especially because technology is bound to become cheaper, and this will lead to more people owning personal 3D printers. Another worrying aspect is the fact that guns and other weapons can be 3D printed with ease, though it would take quite a long time. Already some people own their own 3D printer, and the numbers are sure to rise in the following decades. It will be quite difficult to keep tabs on the printers, causing a dangerous issue. Of course, if the trouble increases, it is always possible for the government to set a law stating that only individuals with a license can own 3D printers. The difficulties don t end there, though. Consider this dilemma. If every single human in the world owned a personal 3D printer and scanner, what would happen to businesses? If there was a product someone took interest in, they could simply print it at home without spending any money! In archaeology, complications arise as well. In order to print larger artifacts, you need a substantially larger 3D printer. If you were to replicate a house, a relatively sizable printer would be required, along with a large stock of plastic and a printer larger than a house. This also means that the cost of ... It needed something that open peoples eyes to what was happening in Montgomery. If something did happen it could have a positive effect on the outcome of the Bus Boycott. On February 21, 1956 M.L.K and 88 other priests and leaders of the boycott were indicted under an old state law prohibiting boycotts. The arrests of these men caused a story of national interest, pointing all eyes of the country on the boycott going on in Montgomery. The information in the text that impacted me the most was the way the Moscow Arts Theatre had a routine. Boeing also has a legal responsibility to the military, government, and commercial markets to provide the newest technology available and get the approval from the United States government before they produce any military technologies for the foreign government/powers. Boeing rightly insists that they cannot be expected to provide jobs for the life in a fast changing, global market. But what they can and should offer employees, is a tool kit of portable skills, a high level of training that allows displaced workers to land new jobs (McMurdy, 1996 par.8). PhD student, Erika Raymond, and her PhD advisor, Edith Widder sent the Eye of the Sea to the Bahamas to observe the unknown waters. A variety of other scientists came up with their own understandings of deep sea life and how they differ from the creatures above the waters. One of the characteristics that caught the attention of scientists were the animals enlarged eyes that adapted to see bioluminescent materials. Scientists can use this information to improve their technology to help them find and observe in the lab or at least unobtrusively through a camera deep sea creatures natural ways of living. Scientists are interested in how the different deep sea species have evolved since the Mesozoic era with very minimal interactions with humans or man made objects. However, their habitats are too dangerous for humans; I suspect there would not have been as much evolution as seen in land animals, considering the fact that in 2004, Raymond and Widder had spotted a 2 metre squid using Eye of the Sea. • 39. Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more hopeful future. While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes s work can mainly be seen as the turning point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn t be until many years later that the full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr. reflects those of Hughes ... He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight until he was satisfied. And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon. Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and glassy, lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him. She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed around her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his chest, she was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his swordwith such strong momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn t be so easy. Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await her next strike. Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to his life.
