Verizon Communications, Inc.
2014 SEC 10 K Annual Reports Analysis Project
Executive Summary
The company I selected to research is Verizon Communications Inc., an American
telecommunications company. I chose Verizon because I am a current subscriber to all their major
residential services from phone to internet and FIOS. Verizon is a global leader in delivering
broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services to consumer, business,
government, and wholesale customers. Verizon also provides converged communications,
information and entertainment services over America s most advanced fiber optic network, and
delivers integrated business solutions to customers in more than 150 countries. Verizon employs a
diverse workforce of 178,300. They currently sit at number 16 on the Fortune 500 list.
My objective in researching Verizon s financial statements was gaining a better understanding of the
company s short and long term goals. As I embarked on this journey, I reviewed the requirements,
after selecting Verizon, and subsequently realized that my choice was not a traditional
manufacturing entity; as such I focused my analysis on key types of financial ratios. My analysis
will discuss Verizon s performance as it relates to AssetProductivity, Financial Strength, and
Profitability. Through my research, paired with the course s content my initial impression of this
project changed, as did my appreciation for the role

Going After Folik Case Study
Going after Frolik MONTREAL, QC The NHL free agent frenzy is hours away and the Montreal
Canadiens front office has been very quiet as it usually is ever since Marc Bergevin took over
the reins. His main philosophy has been building from the inside through the draft and the Habs
prospect pool is getting very solid. Although the organization isn t too fond of signing free agents,
there are a few urgent gaps in the lineup that needs to be filled up. Mainly, with the buyout of P A
Parenteau, the second line right wing spot is up for grabs. Currently with the team, the right
wingers are Brendan Gallagher, Dale Weise and Devante Smith Pelly. There is obviously space for
improvement and a forward must be added before the start of the season, in my opinion.... Show

If we look from within, Sven Andrighetto would be the best top 6 option the Habs have in their
system. With that said, I don t think that Andrighetto is ready for that big of a jump just yet. So
that leaves two options : trading block or free agency. There is one particular right wing on the
free agent market that I personally would target: Michael Frolik. A former first round pick, 10th
overall, Frolik has played his last two seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, putting up 42 points in
each one of them. The Kladno native is listed at 6 foot 1, 200lb and is known for a sound two
way game. He has put up 40 points or more in 4 of the 7 seasons he has spent in the NHL, with
the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets. Last season with the Jets,
Frolik has averaged 1:35 minute per game on the penalty kill and has scored three goals in those
situations. I would picture him on a second line role with his fellow Czech teammate Tomas
Plekanec. He definitely fits the style that the Canadiens are trying to play. He even expressed
interest in joining the Habs as reported by TVA Sports Renaud Lavoie

Coke s Newest Packaging Scheme
When I need a cup of coffee in the morning, I always reach past the other mugs and use my
personalized mug. It s a taller white mug, with my name Lizz printed in a colorful playful font. I
love my unique mug not only because of the fun design, but because it is personalized for me.
The personalization of the mug makes me feel connected to my special mug. If another member
of my family were to use my mug, they would feel no connection to it. When an item or product is
personalized to us, we feel an instant connection to the object. Why have a plain mug, when you
can have one with your name on it? Personalized items are everywhere for this reason. There are
mug, hats, stationary, and many other items with personalization. Coke has realized the connection
between personalized products and consumers, and is taking full advantage of the trend. Under
Coke s newest packaging scheme, Share a Coke , bottles are printed with names on the side, so a
consumer can have their own personal Coke. Packaging schemes, such as Coke s Share a Coke
campaign, lure consumers into purchasing a product through personalization. With their new
marketingcampaign, Coke makes consumers feel connected to their product. People around the
country dig through shelves to find a bottle with their name on it. These bottles do not differ much
from a normal Coke, one side has the traditional Coca Colalogo, and the other side says Share a
Coke with following by one of 250 names. And if

Charles Phelan, An Alcoholic And So Called Bum
Although William Kennedy has written numerous novels about characters featured in Albany,
Francis Phelan is quite a unique character in the novel Ironweed. Francis Phelan , an alcoholic and
so called bum is struggling with his the responsibility of his past mistakes. He eventually comes
back to his hometown Albany after running away and is facing his responsibilities. Throughout
Ironweed, Francis is solely responsible for all the troublesin his life created by his own excessive
drinking and aggressive behavior, and his denial of responsibilityby running away from his troubles,
and that does not make him a victim of his circumstances.
The first incident that Francis is responsible for is dropping his 13 day old infant Gerald. Francis
is solely responsible for this because should have been aware that as a father of a young child he
should not have been drinking since he was taking care of the child. Francis had the opportunity to
control alcohol intake which could have prevented the incident, but he chose to continue to drink
for his selfish pleasure. This lack of judgment shows that Francis was at fault for this accident. To
avoid responsibility, Francis claims that the three beers he had drunk that day were not enough to
make him drunk enough to drop Gerald. However, the reader knows that consuming any alcohol
can make an individual not aware of their surroundings. Even his friend Rudy thinks that it is odd
that Gerald died from just a fall. Rudy tells Francis,

An Important Skill For First And Second Language Learners
1.INTRODUCTION
Reading is an important skill for first and second language learners. Failing to learn to read and
write in the early years results in poor self esteem for learners than any other cause (Casey, 2001).
Computer technology proved to have many advantages for students with learning difficulties,
including motivational aspects and development of fine motor skills (Casey, 2001).
A review of the reading research in L1 and L2 on the effect of a variety of technologies on students
achievement has shown two contradictory findings. The fist line of research found that use of
technology had no significant effect on students reading skill development. Computer assisted
instruction had no effect on the reading achievement of 3rd 6th grade students in a low socio
economic status community. No significant differences were also found between boys and girls
reading achievement (Hamilton, 1995). In another study, Martindale, Pearson, Curda Pilcher (2005)
found that 5th grade students who used computer based and web based software applications
(FCAT Explorer) scored significantly higher on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment
Test) than elementary school students who did not use the FCAT Explorer. At the high schoollevel,
no significant differences in scores were found between students who used the FCAT Explorer and
those who did not use it. In a third study, Humble (2000) found that when 2nd grade students used
the Living Books software (where the computer

Effects Of New Global Era On The World
Effects of New Global Era In the past 100 years, the world has shifted enormously. Once, a world
that only communicated when one nation was trying to take over another, is now connected more
than ever. This transformation began with the Industrial Revolution in a period from around 1760
to 1840. Thinking back to that time, we can easily think of noticeable differences between how
the world was and how it is today. The United States was a small, developing country, still trying to
overcome the effects of a costly revolution. Across the ocean, our once major rival, Great Britain,
was still the greatest power in the world. And around the world, China and Japan were nowhere
near the economic leaders they are today. However, these aren t the biggest changes. With advances
in technology in the Industrial Revolution, the world began to revolutionize. The technologies that
the world has come to familiarize ourselves with today, such as the smartphone, weren t even
blueprints yet. However, a few of the technological advances that developed from that era helped
mold the world into what it is like today. Brink Lindsey stated in the article, The Decline and Fall of
the First Global Economy that, The Industrial Revolution s burst of technological creativity, thus
demolished the natural barriers to trade posed by geography and created entirely new possibilities
for beneficial international exchange. This burst of technological creativity includes those that
helped with transporting

Abstract
This paper focuses on the prevention and treatment of injuries in basketball. This paper explores the
basic concepts of preventing injuries and the different methods to treat injuries that occur as a result
of playing basketball. There are a variety of preventive measures to limit injuries at recreational,
collegiate and professional levels of playing basketball. This paper will elaborate on specific
approaches to injury prevention for each circumstance. Depending on the duration and intensity of
play many contributing factors play a role in the prescribed treatment of basketball injuries. This
paper will examine the different types of treatment available and the major factors that are
considered based on case by case basis. Basketball is an enjoyable sport with the risk of minor and
major injury. This paper will give insight into those injuries and remedies to treat and prevent them.
Prevention and Treatment of Injuries in Basketball
There are various categories of injuries associated with sports. Participating in basketball involves
the use of various muscles, joints, ligaments and bones. Injuries to these areas can be mild,
moderate, serious, severe and sometimes debilitating. They can also be generally defined as acute,
traumatic or overused. There are some injuries commonly associated with basketball.

Evaluating American Values
Hartz and Tocqueville concur that Americans embrace and agree on essential points or
fundamental values like liberty, democracy, and equality. These are easy words to agree to but the
application of these values can be vastly different depending on who is asked. How American
values are defined and applied has split Americans along racial, gender, and class lines since the
formation of the United States. The declaration of independence brought with it differences in the
application of American values. The founding fathers had different ideas of equality and liberty for
different groups of people. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration, all men are created equal
(The Declaration of Independence) . At the time, women could not own land, African Americans

Everyone supports the concept of free speech, but disagrees on how it should be exercised. Some
people feel that speech should be limited when they find it hateful or disrespectful. Others believe
free speech should be applied equally to everyone. The debate of kneeling during the national
anthem has stimulated a large debate and split public opinion. Some argue that kneeling is
distasteful and dishonors the flag. Others feel that kneeling is a peaceful protest that the first
amendment protects. Some believe that the factor of race has exaggerated the issue because the first
person to protest by kneeling during the anthem is black. Free speech divides the public opinion
and some feel it should be restricted depending on what the protest consists of.
All americans believe in certain core values. Everyone can agree that they support democracy,
liberty, and equality. A split in public opinion occurs because people have different opinions on
these basic american values and how they should be enforced or regulated. In other words,
Americans support universal concepts and values, but do not agree on how they should be

Raoul Hausmann s Influence In Three Selected Art Works
The following are three selected art works demonstrate this influence.
In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and
disproportions the human form through deconstruction to have a simultaneously insulting and
humorous effect on his viewers.
Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to
Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from
1916 to 1924. Hausmann became one of the founding members of Dada in Berlin; a style which

Themes Of Kipling
Orwell and the Underlying Themes of Kipling In an assessment of Rudyard Kipling s work,
George Orwell claims Kipling is is a jingo imperialist, he is morally insensitive and aesthetically
disgusting. Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century
imperialist outlook that is no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of
knowledge on economic forces giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the
natural history that took place after. He exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to
write about things that have already happened, confining Kipling as only a writer of his time.
Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like the taste for cheap sweets that some
people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely critical of Kipling. For example,
he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the voice of the common man. He
writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but emotionally. Orwell also finds
Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not physically been in battle.
Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a Fascist. Orwell
claims He [Kipling] was further from being one than the most humane or the most progressive
person is able to be nowadays. Though it is evident that Kipling s imperialist viewpoint heavily
influences his writing, Orwell s interpretations of The White Seal and

Essay On Obesity Epidemic
More than one third or 78.6 million of U.S. adults are obese , according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater
chance at developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease,
type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancerare increased in individuals who are considered obese
(CDC). While physical activity plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle, what one consumes
is also a significant factor. With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be
made more available and affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be
increased to help bring a decline to this ongoing epidemic.
To understand the full extent of the obesity epidemic, one must first understand what the term
obese indicates. A person whose BMI, or body mass index, ranges above 30 is considered obese.
The healthy BMI range for a normal person is between 19 and 24 (CDC). When an individual
consumes more energy, or calories, than they use, the excess calories are stored in the body as fat
and thus causes weight gain. Over time, without both reduction of calorie intake and increased
activity , a larger amount of fat is stored and as a result obesity occurs (Diet and ... Show more

White Camellias In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay
Harper Lee, in her 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, uses white camellias as a symbol to display
the aspects of innocence. The white color of the camellias often goes with simplicity, hope, and
innocence. The first time Lee uses the symbol of the camellias is to demonstrate the destroyal of
innocence when Jem destroys the camellias. Jem is enraged that Mrs. Dubose insulted his mother,
he did not begin to calm down until he had cut the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose
owned (Lee 103). Crushing the flowers, symbolizes the many ways that those aspects can be
destroyed through rash and hasty decisions. This quote exhibits that when Mrs.Dubose insultes Jem

The flowers indicate that innocence is still in Jem and Scout because they believe Tom is being
treated inhumanely and can see the wrongdoing of the townspeople. They are also staying
strong in their mindset even after people chastise them for their views. White, is often associated
with life after death or rebirth. Lee is showing that the spirit of Mrs. Dubose is still alive in these
flowers and she is showing the children to advocate for what is right. The johnson grass and
weed stand for the naive majority. Because the camellias grow ahead of them, it exposes that
good is always coexisting with evil, it is just up to the townspeople to figure it out. Finally, Lee
used the symbol of the camellias to uncover that innocence can be preserved when Jem threw the
candy box in the fire, but left the camellia untouched. After Mrs. Dubose s death, Jem picked up
the candy box and threw it into the fire. He picked up the camellia, and when I went to bed I saw
him fingering the petals, (112). The action of throwing the candy box into the fire is telling the
readers that Jem is growing up and can see the effects of death or more mature topics. Normally,
candy is for young children and since it is being burned that is displaying that Jem is over his
youth. On the other hand, he keeps the camellia. Since he keeps the camellia that is implying to the

Human Systems And Climate Change Essay
IPCC Human Systems and Climate Change Overview
Kristen Morgan
California State University, Bakersfield
Human Systems and Climate Change
For the last decade, climate change has been a controversial topic amongst governing nations.
Determining and agreeing upon appropriate courses of action, as well as the decided effects on
populations and ecosystems have also long been debated. With little knowledge on the effects
climate change might have on the human population, as well as our ability (or inability) to adapt,
governing bodies look towards the IPCC, or Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for
information regarding possible risks and impacts from climate change.

Published in the Fourth Assessment, Working Group I identified notable understanding of
noticeable human induced climate change and current Greenhouse Gas data. One of the most
notable points from this publication was the changes in temperature and sea level from 1961 to
1990. As seen in the figure below (Changes, 2007), surface temperature is rising, average sea level
is rising, and snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere is dropping. When comparing the data with
previous centuries using the Paleoclimatic Perspective, it is noted that this change is rather unusual
and has not been observed to have occurred previously. Working Group II published their work in
the Fourth Assessment focused on the effect of climate change on human systems, as well as the
ability of these systems to adapt to changes. Also published in the Fourth Assessment, Working
Group III discusses policies to assist in mitigation of climate change.

Dual Control Model
From all the models that explain about human sexuality, I think the most useful model would
Bancroft s dual control model. The dual control model explains of what Masters and Johnson s left
out in their research about human sexuality. In Masters and Johnson s research about human
sexuality said that people are physiological arousal through a process of only excitation stimulus.
In the Dual Control Model, Bancroft explains of how we as humans need to balance of two process
in human sexualitycalled excitation and inhibition. Bancroft believes that it was very important to
now only understand excitation process, but to also focus on the inhibition process as well.
He believed that sexuality was adaptive across many species of a balance between the excitation
and inhibition. Excitation is explained as something that is powerful in sexuality that can be a
distraction, but with distractions that are so powerful can lead to disadvantages. Bancroft believe
that these process are due to an evolutionary sense, because inhibition process allows us to stop us

The inhibition process is important due to physiology of the reproductive system in men s
spermatogenesis. Spermatogenesis is the process of developing sperm, this process usually take
24 hours for a man to develop 30 million sperms. So if a man is having sex everyday due to low
inhibition process, it is less likely for him to be able to impregnate is partner. Bancroft also was
able to do more research about both process, which came about that these process are more of
balance between the two. Meaning that sometimes having too much of excitation or inhibition, and
having little of both can creates problems. Bancroft found that people with an imbalance of

1.7 Name Newton s three laws and state them in your own words. * Newton s first law states that
When viewed in an inertial reference frame, an object either is at rest or moves at a constant
velocity, unless acted upon by an external force. This means that there is a natural inclination of
objects to continue to do what they re doing. All objects withstand changes in their state of
motion. Without an unbalanced force, an object in motion will maintain this state of motion His
second law states that The acceleration of a body is directly proportional to, and in the same
direction as, the net force acting on the body, and inversely proportional to its mass. Thus, F =

Packington Working Conditions
Along with the other hundreds of thousands workers in Packington, I experience the gruesome
working conditions first hand. When I first arrived in Chicago with my extended family, I
acquired the labor of painting advertisements on cans of meat, which was a job that paid me
well. Most aspects in my life were going favorably well until the painting factory I worked for
pressured their workers to paint cans quickly causing such an extraordinary amount of cans, the
factory temporarily shut down. Once the supply of cans were running low, the factory reopened,
but my wages were noticeably lower. Because I am invictus, I protested that I was being cheated
out of a portion of my wages, which only led to me being fired. After a miserable month of being

If we try to change our working futures as individuals, we will never have the best lives we are
capable of having, but if we unite as a union to stand up for what we believe in, we can
successfully, positively define our futures. Without the union, the working citizens will always be
treated like animals, but with the union, workers can one day be treated appropriately. One way
in which the union will improve workers lives is by giving benefits, which means a worker take a
day off of work without getting fired. This also means if someone happened to get hurt on the job,
they could take as much time off as they needed, without their position being replaced. Furthermore,
the union will secure workers with less working hours, so they have more time to spend with family
and doing personal interests. Along with these examples of what the union will do, it will provide
numerous other benefits not mentioned. Together, if we unite as one, we can create a higher
quality and optimistic working future through the

I began by trying to successfully create a therapeutic alliance with Shawna. I knew that she had
issues with trust, making it extremely important to establish a good collaborative relationship
with the client (Wedding Corsini, 2014, p. 35). Together we prioritized what needed to be done
into manageable pieces so that Shawna could feel successful and empowered to continue moving
forward. We also started with easy tangible pieces of intervention to eliminate barriers so the crisis
felt more manageable, and her anxiety decreased with each goal that was accomplished. I asked
permission before proceeding with any step of intervention. It was an important aspect of building
trust to empower Shawna to lead, while I provided support.
Crisis Intervention Plan
Predispositioning began with a phone call to Shawna s hospital room. It was imperative to
connect with Shawna on an emotional level, so she knew my intentions were to help. I also
wanted to clarify the process so she would be comfortable during the initial intake. I shared with
her who I was, where the referral came from, and what services I would be able to provide. I
asked permission to visit her at the hospital to enroll her in the program. Shawna agreed to let me
visit and I let her know that I understood she felt like time was running out, and to reduce her
anxiety I would like to visit as soon as possible.
Next, we defined the crisis using the intake

there should be a level of highness allowed to move. This would work because people will have

But the flickering of candles is symbolic of hope a flicker of hope that one day they will be free

The rider wanted to claim the bridge as his own; he wanted the virginity of it.

Civilization And Savagery
The theme of the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the conflict between the human
impulse towards savagery and the rules of civilization. Throughout the book, the conflict is
aimed at the main character Ralph and Jack, who both represented civilized young boys in the
beginning of the novel, but quickly developed into savages. Jack was the first of the young boys
to experience savagery by trying to overthrow Ralph as chief, and by brutally hunting pigs. While
Jack and the hunters were seeking food they came across a sow, Then Jack found the throat and
hot blood spouted over his hands. The sow collapsed under them and they were heavy and fulfilled

Ralph also focused greatly on keeping a signal fire going as one of the boys only hopes of
getting off the island. Jack is also interested in gaining power over the boys by offering them
food, shelter, and protection against the beast. Jack s desire for more power ruins the friendship
between all the boys and resembles in the creation of Jack and his group of savages. The more
civilized group of the boys is Ralph and Piggy, while they still focus on their main goal of
surviving and getting off the island. While the two separate groups argue, Piggy compares the
savages to themselves, Which is better to be a pack of painted Indians like you are or to be sensible
like Ralph is? ... Which is better to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill? ... Which is better, law
and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up? (Golding 180). That quote shows Piggy talking the
savages and comparing them to Ralph, as a civilized human, and to them as a group of savages
without any rules or order. Nearing the end of the novel, the conch was broken and Piggy was
murdered, nearly all of the boys had lost any sense of civilization within them and they all became

Electromagnetic waves
At this point in the course we ll move into optics. This might seem like a separate topic from
electricity and magnetism, but optics is really a sub topic of electricity and magnetism. This is
because optics deals with the behavior of light, and light is one example of an electromagnetic wave.
Light and other electromagnetic waves
Light is not the only example of an electromagnetic wave. Other electromagnetic waves include
the microwaves you use to heat up leftovers for dinner, and the radio waves that are broadcast
from radio stations. An electromagnetic wave can be created by accelerating charges; moving
charges back and forth will produce oscillating electric and magnetic fields, and these travel at the

Visible light makes up a very small part of the full electromagnetic spectrum. Electromagnetic
waves that are of higher energy than visible light (higher frequency, shorter wavelength) include
ultraviolet light, X rays, and gamma rays. Lower energy waves (lower frequency, longer
wavelength) include infrared light, microwaves, and radio and television waves.
Energy in an electromagnetic wave
The energy in an electromagnetic wave is tied up in the electric and magnetic fields. In general,
the energy per unit volume in an electric field is given by: In a magnetic field, the energy per unit
volume is: An electromagnetic wave has both electric and magnetic fields, so the total energy
density associated with an electromagnetic wave is: It turns out that for an electromagnetic wave,
the energy associated with the electric field is equal to the energy associated with the magnetic
field, so the energy density can be written in terms of just one or the other: This also implies that in
an electromagnetic wave, E = cB.
A more common way to handle the energy is to look at how much energy is carried by the wave
from one place to another. A good measure of this is the intensity of the wave, which is the
power that passes perpendicularly through an area divided by the area. The intensity, S, and the
energy density are related by a factor of c: Generally, it s most useful to use the average power, or

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
History The roots of the Cognitive Behavioral Theory lie in the broadening of behavior therapy
and has undoubtedly produced more empirical research than any other model of psychotherapy
(Datillio, 2000a). Cognitive Behavior theory is a theory based on the idea that a person s
perspective is what guides the development and the preservation of their emotional and behavioral
responses to situations within their lives as well as a plethora of studies that tested learning
theories. The Cognitive Behavior therapy also called CBT, relies on the belief that the person s
perspective also stunts or expedites the emotional and behavioral adaptation to situations as well.

The Anatomy And Physiology Of The Eye

Detection Of Optic Disc Location
Automatic Detection of optic disc location in Color Fundus Retinal Images Using Circle Operator
Abstract In this work a method is proposed to detect optic disk (OD) automatically in color retinal
fundus image without using background mask and blood vessels. Based on the properties of OD,
an idea of circle operator is presented here. This method has been applied on six public databases
and the promising results are obtained. The experimental results indicate that this proposed method
of automatic OD detection has good accuracy and is also time efficient.
In modern ophthalmology, detection of optic disk is a very important step for retinal image
analysis. It is one of the main feature of extracting the anatomical structure of the retina as
illustrated in Fig. 1(a). Optic disk can be defined as the circular brighter region in retinal fundus
image where blood vessels converge and optic nerve is formed. OD detection is very indispensable
for the computer aided diagnosis of different eye diseases such as glaucoma detection and diabetic
retinopathy [1]. Fig. 1(b) represents the fundus image with retinal lesion.
Many optic disc detection methods have been proposed ear lier. In [4] [6], image brightness based
methods are proposed. In these methods it is expected that the OD usually resembles according to
the brightest pixels within fundus images. In [7] and [8], image variation based methods are
proposed based on the statement that the OD has a high image variation due to the

In one way, A LBO is like buying a used car. The car buyer wants to know more than what is in

For an LBO buyer, a through inspection is equally critical. This success is decided upon what kind
of debt to take on, budget cuts, business sold to pay down that debt quickly.
For Kravis, checking the car was the problem. To be successful, he needed information but was

Kravis reconsidered the joint venture with Ross. To date, the press has been focusing on Kravis;

Hotspur In King Henry IV
Violent change that is political in nature also arises through the character of Hotspur in the play,
King Henry IV, Part One. Like Evie and V s revolt, Hotspur, through the rebel camp, similarly
enacts a revolt against the established governmental power by specifically, trying to kill King
Henry IV. As with the other examples, Hotspur does this for personal reasons related to past
events. For instance, Hotspur believes that King Henry IV by not providing ransom for his brother
in law, Mortimer is consequently, not properly repaying his family for their previous assistance to
King Henry IV s ascension to the throne. Thus, just as in the Word for World is Forest, the conflict
that Hotspur creates in turn, causes counter violence. Notably, it

What Does Grilling Mean To You Essay
I have actually been trying for a while. I was taking some meds that made me gain like 5lb a
month which was incredibly frustrating. But I m off of those and finally back to loosing weight. I
have actually finally cut out the two things things that I believe have been holding me back the
most and that s; fast food, and alcohol. I tried to tell myself that eatingchicken sandwiches from
Wendy s or chicken soft tacos from taco bell was healthy. Obviously it isn t. I have actually
started grilling all of my food (mainly chicken and some pork tenderloin) and not only do I feel
better, but I enjoy grilling and it tastes much better. The alcohol thing is probably temporary but the
amount of alcohol to get me feeling good is enough

Botanical Gardens, Research Paper on California Plants
California is a state of enormous diversity. From the coast to the mountains and the forests to the
deserts, California is full of a wide array of plant life. California is the third largest state in the
United States and thus has a major variation in climate resulting in the many plants found. Not only
are there many plants found here, but many of those plants cannot be found anywhere else. There
are also many nonnative plants that have become a part of the scenery in California. The best way to
understand the state s vegetation is to first understand the floristic provinces.
In North America there are 12 floristic provinces with four of those found in California (Map #1).

Most chaparral plants grow mainly in the spring. They take advantage of the winter rains
penetrating to their roots and the long spring days. To cope for the dry soil in the summer plants
these plants usually cope by becoming dormant. During this time they are very susceptible to fire.
The evergreen nature of this plant allows it to keep its leaves and not use and energy to create new
leaves. Because of this they can be photosynthesizing within minutes of a summer rain. These
plants have adapted to use very little water and not lose any while at the same time trapping all
the water it can. The types of oak found at the RSABG were the California Black Oak, the Blue
Oak, and the Canyon Oak (Picture #6). These are all found in the oak woodlands biome. These
trees are found all throughout of California. From the foothills and valleys of cismontane
California, around the central valley and mixed throughout the Coast Ranges, Transverse Ranges,
and Peninsular Ranges. This biome is 10 percent of the vegetated landscape and is almost only in
California. The Blue Oak is a dominant species and endemic. The climate that these oak are found
range from semiarid to both warm summer and cool summer Mediterranean. Generally the climates
are cooler and moister then the grassland and chaparral biomes below but warmer then the
coniferous forests above. Some people think that because of how common the oak woodlands are

routine water samples being taken at our beaches for testing against key indicators of pollution.
Are these strategies used in the coastline within Randwick city council boundaries and how
effective are these management strategies? These strategies are sustainable and appropriate
however more immediate action should be taken based on visitors opinions and beliefs. Coastal
management strategies are simply requirement strategies like council clean ups, and does not
include necessary updates and improvements in facilities and stores. This beach is lacking in
short and long term major improvement plans as it s an undervalued beach in contrast to more
populated beaches. Councils and governments are putting off major plans for a small town beach
which is the reason for its slow upgrade time period and lack of serious management. 23

Guantanamo Troopers Essay
For most service members, the difficulties of deployments can include the operational tempo,
uncertainty of the next mission, the fear of the unknown or the constant changes and frustrations of
operational security. While we all deal with those obstacles, most Joint Task Force Guantanamo
Troopers will say the biggest adjustment to deal with is being away from family members. One
tool available to Troopers is the United Through ReadingProgram, which helps Troopers stay
connected with family members through deployments. UTR gives service members the
opportunity to be video recorded reading books to their loved ones back home. United Through
Reading is a way to put a voice back home, said U.S. Army Capt. Ronnie Dettmer, a chaplain

The UTR program provides most of the resources to make the connection with loved ones back
home. After completing a recording of your book, you will receive a copy of that book along
with a DVD to mail home to your loved ones. For Troopers without kids, UTR is still a great
opportunity to send messages and well wishes to significant others, friends and parents. When
recording a video, Troopers are afforded the opportunity to bring props, instruments or anything
sentimental with them as they record their message. For those interested in participating in the
program, you can contact the chaplain s office at x2218 or x2571 to get started. Normal hours are

Guilt In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Remorse, the feeling of deep guilt and regret for the commitment of a crime or atrocity, is a major
element in classical Greek tragedies. The resulting anguish that the character feels enhances the
magnitude of the catastrophe, as the atrocity is transformed into a powerful emotion bringing it to a
relatable level. In Sophocless Oedipus Rex, retold by John Bennett and Moira Kerr, and Antigone
translated by E.F. Watling, the reader witnesses how different aspects of each play contribute
towards the final tragic ending. While both Creon and Oedipus exhibit feelings of remorse,
Oedipus displays a higher degree of contrition as a result of his hamartia, his thanatos and the
impact that family and secondary characters have towards his anagnorisis.... Show more content on

Creon is now conscious that he has, unintentionally, killed his only son. The chorus conveys his
feelings of anguish as they say by the burden that proves too well the guilt, no other man s but
his alone (Sophocles 15). However it is only the words of his dying wife . . . and with her dying
breath cursed you, their slayer that make him realize the wrongdoings of his actions. It is then
when he recognizes that, had he not been stubborn and prideful, his son and wife would still be
alive. It is the shepherd s proclamation about the baby he had left all those years ago that make
Oedipus realize the effects of his actions. The story says, And the shepherd told his story . . .
given the child of Laius to a messenger, who would take the baby to be raised by the king of
Corinth (Bennett Kerr 163). This is where he begins to feel those feelings of remorse and despair
and sentences himself to a life in exile and blindness because he had killed his real father while
also marrying his own mother, eventually bearing children of his own with

The Battle Of The War Periods For Every Army
Armies perfect how to fight the last war, just in time for the next. This unattributed adage has
foreshadowed the inter war periods for every army; a repeatable cycle where the typical outcome
is the outbreak of a different type of warfare resulting in a change of tactics, techniques, and
procedures at the cost of Soldier s lives. This is why the study of military history holds a heavy
emphasis in the United States Army. Whether you are applying to the Command and General Staff
College, any Non Commissioned Officer Educational Schools, or even attending a Promotion
Board, knowing and being able to communicate effectively about Military History is required. The

By mid February 1943, the Axis eastern front has settled on the Mareth Line in an attempt to protect
the port city of Gabes. On the western front of the African Campaign, Allied troops continued to
push through the Atlas Mountains of western Tunisia with the intention of splitting the Axis forces
in two. Attempting to push the Allies back, the 21st Panzer Division of Army Group Africa under
the command of General Hans Jurgen von Arnim attacked the French defenders in the town of
FaГЇd on January 30. The Combat Commands of the 1st Armored Division were sent in a futile
attempt to cauterize the line. Not being able to withstand the attack, the 1st Armored Division
and other elements of U.S. II Corps, under the command of Major General Fredendall, withdrew
back into the Atlas mountain range, with the Axis forces blocking the exits. With no strong
defensive positions the U.S. II Corps redeployed to the Kasserine and Sbiba Passes. Field
Marshall Rommel strategically thought that taking Kasserine pass would give protection to the
coastal region to the east, capture supplies left behind by the Americans, and be a forward staging
area to launch new attacks. On February 14, 1943 General Heinz Ziegler attacked the town Sidi
Bou Zid, located roughly 10 miles west of FaГЇd. At 04:00 a.m., under the command of General
Heinz Ziegler, 140 German tanks, including 12

This coverage is best if a family prefers the convenience and predictability of copayments for
routine health care expenses. In addition, it covers families with young children that have regularly
scheduled doctor visits and want copayment benefits.
The Health Savings Account combines a lower cost, high deductible health insurance plan with a
tax favored savings account. HSAs allow you to deposit the money an insurer saves on
premiums into a tax favored HSA, subject to federal limits. The individual uses these savings to
pay qualified health care expenses until the out of pocket maximum is met, then insurance starts
to pay the covered health care costs, once the deductible is met. Any leftover savings roll over
year after year and continues to earn interest. This is a good insurance option if a person wants
more control over how their health care dollars are spent, it has lower monthly premiums and it is a
tax savings.
High Deductible or Traditional insurance is a more economical way to help protect a person s
health. This is a preferred option for those that prefer to pay a higher deductible, understanding that
subsequent covered expenses are paid by the insurance plan. With this plan, the deductible is
higher, but the premium is lower. The individual is responsible to cover minor or routine health
care expenses until the calendar year deductible is met; once it has been met the

Determination of Relative Atomic Mass of Lithium
Evaluation:
In general the accuracy of the experiments was good. However with practice, the accuracy could
be improved; accuracy being how close the results are to the real answer. I think I have carried pit
the experiment as well as I possibly could at the time with the given conditions and time period
allowed. I have gained precise results from the practical. However, looking back at the analysis
section, the relative atomic mass values I found were not exactly 6.9 as presented in the periodic
timetable. Method (1) gave me 8.28; a difference of 1.38 and method (2) gave me 7.37, a
difference of 0.43 to the real/reference value. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When there is a colour change in the solution, we are supposed to close the tap. However, the
colour does not change throughout the solution as soon as there is a colour change. Therefore this
will have caused in concurrencies throughout, as the aim is NOT to put excess acid to the solution
titrated, the idea is to put the EXACT amount required to neutralize the solution. I also found that
the reacted solution sometimes returned to a slight pink colour even after turning completely
colourless. Thus this caused inevitable error.
Accuracy and reliability:
In method (1) the procedure was very accurate; the equipment used is very accurate, however as
mentioned before, the gas lost when replacing the bung caused a degree of inaccuracy. As shown by
the results, with the relative atomic mass found to be +1.38 over.
In method (2) not only were the results accurate but also precise. The final relative atomic mass
coming out as only +0.43 over the reference value proves a high degree of accuracy. Looking at
the results table, the three accurate titrations fall within 0.1cm3 and 0.3cm3 of each other, which is
a very concurrent set of results. Clearly method (1) and method (2) differ in accuracy and precision.
Method (1) is clearly less accurate and precise as the gas collected from the reaction of lithium and
water was not

Unions and Political Economy
Union Articles Are union locals independent of employers or are they incorporated into the
management of the workplace? Union locals are not incorporated into the management of the
workplace. The most important objective of unions is to protect workers interests against
management s interests. This is because, in most cases, the interests of managers and those of
workers are very much different. Workers are interested in increasing their salaries, in reducing
their volume of work, and in improving workplace conditions. Managers are interested in increasing
profits while reducing investments. Therefore, negotiations must be made between the two parties.
Workers must unite and select certain people that can represent their interests in these negotiations.
This is how unions were developed. However, union locals are not independent of employers. This
is because union members and their leaders are employees of the company in case. The quality of
union members and leaders is added to the quality of employees, but this does not mean that union
locals are independent of employers. The power of employees against their employers can
significantly increase when they are union members. In addition to this, union leaders influence
their members. The politics within unions can take the form of democracies or oligarchies. In most
cases, oligarchies are formed within union members. This is usually the case when a small group of
union members takes control of other members, and

Reverse Logistic
REVERSE LOGISTICS
DEFINATION:
Flow of surplus or unwanted material, goods, or equipment back to the firm, through its logistics
chain, for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
In other words, reverse logistics is the management of any type of returns from any customer with
a specific purpose. Products can be returned from any player within the supply chain or from the
end user for different reasons. Raw material, work in process or finished goods can be returned
when there are surplus or leftovers during the customer s production due to changes in
manufacturing plan. Products maybe recalled for quality issues. Damaged product/package in

Movement of excess or over supplied goods to other programs or donating to other organizations.
IMPORTANCE OF REVERSE LOGISTICS:
Earlier companies did not pay much attention to reverse logistics. However, now due to consumer
awareness, law enforcement on disposal of certain goods makes it very important for companies to
manage an efficient reverse logistics. Now a days, companies are even getting ISO certification for
their returns process.
Reverse Logistics Activities:
It can include a variety of activities depending on whether the goods are returned from a
customer (end user) or a distributor, whether the goods sent back is a packaging material or a
product and similar other factors. If it is a product then activities like refurbish, recondition,
remanufacture, recycle, landfill, etc. can be performed. If it is a packaging material, reuse,
refurbish, recycle, reclaim material activities are involved. For examples, Coca Cola reuses its
glass bottles and reconditions it before bringing it back in the market. Broken bottles are recycled.
To reduce costs, firms attempt to reuse materials as much as possible. For products that cannot be
reused in anyway due to its poor condition, legal implications, environmental issues, etc. firms then

  • 2. Verizon Communications Inc. 2013 Sec 10 K Annual Report... VZ 2014 Sec 10 K Annual Reports Analysis Project Verizon Communications, Inc. 2014 SEC 10 K Annual Reports Analysis Project Executive Summary The company I selected to research is Verizon Communications Inc., an American telecommunications company. I chose Verizon because I am a current subscriber to all their major residential services from phone to internet and FIOS. Verizon is a global leader in delivering broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services to consumer, business, government, and wholesale customers. Verizon also provides converged communications, information and entertainment services over America s most advanced fiber optic network, and delivers integrated business solutions to customers in more than 150 countries. Verizon employs a diverse workforce of 178,300. They currently sit at number 16 on the Fortune 500 list. My objective in researching Verizon s financial statements was gaining a better understanding of the company s short and long term goals. As I embarked on this journey, I reviewed the requirements, after selecting Verizon, and subsequently realized that my choice was not a traditional manufacturing entity; as such I focused my analysis on key types of financial ratios. My analysis will discuss Verizon s performance as it relates to AssetProductivity, Financial Strength, and Profitability. Through my research, paired with the course s content my initial impression of this project changed, as did my appreciation for the role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Going After Folik Case Study Going after Frolik MONTREAL, QC The NHL free agent frenzy is hours away and the Montreal Canadiens front office has been very quiet as it usually is ever since Marc Bergevin took over the reins. His main philosophy has been building from the inside through the draft and the Habs prospect pool is getting very solid. Although the organization isn t too fond of signing free agents, there are a few urgent gaps in the lineup that needs to be filled up. Mainly, with the buyout of P A Parenteau, the second line right wing spot is up for grabs. Currently with the team, the right wingers are Brendan Gallagher, Dale Weise and Devante Smith Pelly. There is obviously space for improvement and a forward must be added before the start of the season, in my opinion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we look from within, Sven Andrighetto would be the best top 6 option the Habs have in their system. With that said, I don t think that Andrighetto is ready for that big of a jump just yet. So that leaves two options : trading block or free agency. There is one particular right wing on the free agent market that I personally would target: Michael Frolik. A former first round pick, 10th overall, Frolik has played his last two seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, putting up 42 points in each one of them. The Kladno native is listed at 6 foot 1, 200lb and is known for a sound two way game. He has put up 40 points or more in 4 of the 7 seasons he has spent in the NHL, with the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets. Last season with the Jets, Frolik has averaged 1:35 minute per game on the penalty kill and has scored three goals in those situations. I would picture him on a second line role with his fellow Czech teammate Tomas Plekanec. He definitely fits the style that the Canadiens are trying to play. He even expressed interest in joining the Habs as reported by TVA Sports Renaud Lavoie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Coke s Newest Packaging Scheme When I need a cup of coffee in the morning, I always reach past the other mugs and use my personalized mug. It s a taller white mug, with my name Lizz printed in a colorful playful font. I love my unique mug not only because of the fun design, but because it is personalized for me. The personalization of the mug makes me feel connected to my special mug. If another member of my family were to use my mug, they would feel no connection to it. When an item or product is personalized to us, we feel an instant connection to the object. Why have a plain mug, when you can have one with your name on it? Personalized items are everywhere for this reason. There are mug, hats, stationary, and many other items with personalization. Coke has realized the connection between personalized products and consumers, and is taking full advantage of the trend. Under Coke s newest packaging scheme, Share a Coke , bottles are printed with names on the side, so a consumer can have their own personal Coke. Packaging schemes, such as Coke s Share a Coke campaign, lure consumers into purchasing a product through personalization. With their new marketingcampaign, Coke makes consumers feel connected to their product. People around the country dig through shelves to find a bottle with their name on it. These bottles do not differ much from a normal Coke, one side has the traditional Coca Colalogo, and the other side says Share a Coke with following by one of 250 names. And if ... • 6. Charles Phelan, An Alcoholic And So Called Bum Although William Kennedy has written numerous novels about characters featured in Albany, Francis Phelan is quite a unique character in the novel Ironweed. Francis Phelan , an alcoholic and so called bum is struggling with his the responsibility of his past mistakes. He eventually comes back to his hometown Albany after running away and is facing his responsibilities. Throughout Ironweed, Francis is solely responsible for all the troublesin his life created by his own excessive drinking and aggressive behavior, and his denial of responsibilityby running away from his troubles, and that does not make him a victim of his circumstances. The first incident that Francis is responsible for is dropping his 13 day old infant Gerald. Francis is solely responsible for this because should have been aware that as a father of a young child he should not have been drinking since he was taking care of the child. Francis had the opportunity to control alcohol intake which could have prevented the incident, but he chose to continue to drink for his selfish pleasure. This lack of judgment shows that Francis was at fault for this accident. To avoid responsibility, Francis claims that the three beers he had drunk that day were not enough to make him drunk enough to drop Gerald. However, the reader knows that consuming any alcohol can make an individual not aware of their surroundings. Even his friend Rudy thinks that it is odd that Gerald died from just a fall. Rudy tells Francis, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Important Skill For First And Second Language Learners 1.INTRODUCTION Reading is an important skill for first and second language learners. Failing to learn to read and write in the early years results in poor self esteem for learners than any other cause (Casey, 2001). Computer technology proved to have many advantages for students with learning difficulties, including motivational aspects and development of fine motor skills (Casey, 2001). A review of the reading research in L1 and L2 on the effect of a variety of technologies on students achievement has shown two contradictory findings. The fist line of research found that use of technology had no significant effect on students reading skill development. Computer assisted instruction had no effect on the reading achievement of 3rd 6th grade students in a low socio economic status community. No significant differences were also found between boys and girls reading achievement (Hamilton, 1995). In another study, Martindale, Pearson, Curda Pilcher (2005) found that 5th grade students who used computer based and web based software applications (FCAT Explorer) scored significantly higher on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) than elementary school students who did not use the FCAT Explorer. At the high schoollevel, no significant differences in scores were found between students who used the FCAT Explorer and those who did not use it. In a third study, Humble (2000) found that when 2nd grade students used the Living Books software (where the computer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Effects Of New Global Era On The World Effects of New Global Era In the past 100 years, the world has shifted enormously. Once, a world that only communicated when one nation was trying to take over another, is now connected more than ever. This transformation began with the Industrial Revolution in a period from around 1760 to 1840. Thinking back to that time, we can easily think of noticeable differences between how the world was and how it is today. The United States was a small, developing country, still trying to overcome the effects of a costly revolution. Across the ocean, our once major rival, Great Britain, was still the greatest power in the world. And around the world, China and Japan were nowhere near the economic leaders they are today. However, these aren t the biggest changes. With advances in technology in the Industrial Revolution, the world began to revolutionize. The technologies that the world has come to familiarize ourselves with today, such as the smartphone, weren t even blueprints yet. However, a few of the technological advances that developed from that era helped mold the world into what it is like today. Brink Lindsey stated in the article, The Decline and Fall of the First Global Economy that, The Industrial Revolution s burst of technological creativity, thus demolished the natural barriers to trade posed by geography and created entirely new possibilities for beneficial international exchange. This burst of technological creativity includes those that helped with transporting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Evaluating American Values Hartz and Tocqueville concur that Americans embrace and agree on essential points or fundamental values like liberty, democracy, and equality. These are easy words to agree to but the application of these values can be vastly different depending on who is asked. How American values are defined and applied has split Americans along racial, gender, and class lines since the formation of the United States. The declaration of independence brought with it differences in the application of American values. The founding fathers had different ideas of equality and liberty for different groups of people. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration, all men are created equal (The Declaration of Independence) . At the time, women could not own land, African Americans were considered... Some people feel that speech should be limited when they find it hateful or disrespectful. Others believe free speech should be applied equally to everyone. The debate of kneeling during the national anthem has stimulated a large debate and split public opinion. Some argue that kneeling is distasteful and dishonors the flag. Others feel that kneeling is a peaceful protest that the first amendment protects. Some believe that the factor of race has exaggerated the issue because the first person to protest by kneeling during the anthem is black. Free speech divides the public opinion and some feel it should be restricted depending on what the protest consists of. All americans believe in certain core values. Everyone can agree that they support democracy, liberty, and equality. A split in public opinion occurs because people have different opinions on these basic american values and how they should be enforced or regulated. Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century imperialist outlook that is no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of knowledge on economic forces giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the natural history that took place after. He exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to write about things that have already happened, confining Kipling as only a writer of his time. Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like the taste for cheap sweets that some people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely critical of Kipling. For example, he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the voice of the common man. He writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but emotionally. Orwell also finds Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not physically been in battle. Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a Fascist. Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater chance at developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancerare increased in individuals who are considered obese (CDC). While physical activity plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle, what one consumes is also a significant factor. With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be made more available and affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be increased to help bring a decline to this ongoing epidemic. To understand the full extent of the obesity epidemic, one must first understand what the term obese indicates. A person whose BMI, or body mass index, ranges above 30 is considered obese. The healthy BMI range for a normal person is between 19 and 24 (CDC). All objects withstand changes in their state of motion. Without an unbalanced force, an object in motion will maintain this state of motion His second law states that The acceleration of a body is directly proportional to, and in the same direction as, the net force acting on the body, and inversely proportional to its mass. Thus, F = ma, where F is the net force acting on the object, m is the mass of the object and a is the acceleration of the object. This law implicates that heavier objects require more force to move the same distance as lighter objects. A more common way to handle the energy is to look at how much energy is carried by the wave from one place to another. A good measure of this is the intensity of the wave, which is the power that passes perpendicularly through an area divided by the area. The intensity, S, and the energy density are related by a factor of c: Generally, it s most useful to use the average power, or average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accuracy and reliability: In method (1) the procedure was very accurate; the equipment used is very accurate, however as mentioned before, the gas lost when replacing the bung caused a degree of inaccuracy. As shown by the results, with the relative atomic mass found to be +1.38 over. In method (2) not only were the results accurate but also precise. The final relative atomic mass coming out as only +0.43 over the reference value proves a high degree of accuracy. Looking at the results table, the three accurate titrations fall within 0.1cm3 and 0.3cm3 of each other, which is a very concurrent set of results. Clearly method (1) and method (2) differ in accuracy and precision. Method (1) is clearly less accurate and precise as the gas collected from the reaction of lithium and water was not ...
