Business Model Of Home Depot Essay
1. Business Model According to Don Debelak of entrepreneur.com A great business models
depend on developing three green lights, or qualities that help the business succeed: finding high
value customers, offering significant value to customers, and delivering significant margins.
Great business models also avoid three red lights that can derail a business: difficulties in
satisfying customers, trouble maintaining market position, and problems generating funding for
growth. (entrepreneur.com, 2007) The Company operates retail stores and call centers, and

Essay on Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who lived between 1671 1630.
Kepler was a Copernican and initially believed that planets should follow perfectly circular orbits
( Johan Kepler 1). During this time period, Ptolemy s geocentric theory of the solar system was
accepted. Ptolemy s theory stated that Earth is at the center of the universe and stationary; closest
to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, expanding towards the outside, are Mercury, Venus, and the
Sun in a straight line, followed by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the fixed stars . The Ptolemaic system
explained the numerous observed motions of the planets as having small spherical orbits called
epicycles ( Astronomy 2). Kepler is best known for introducing three... Show more content on

His first law states, The orbits of the planets are ellipses, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse.
As shown in Figure 1, The Sun is not at the focus of the ellipse, but is instead at one focus [usually
there is nothing at the other focus of the ellipse]. The planet then trails the ellipse in its orbit, which
implies that the Earth Sun distance is continually changing as the planet goes around its orbit.
Kepler s second law states, The line joining the planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal
times as the planet travels around the ellipse. As shown in Figure 2, an imaginary line from the
center of the sun to the center of a planet sweeps out the same area in a given time. This means
that planets move faster when they are closer to the sun. Kepler s third and final law states, The
time taken by a planet to make one complete trip around the sun is its period. The ratio of the
squares of periodic times for two planets is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their mean distances
from the sun. Kepler s third law indicates that the time taken by a planet to orbit the Sun increases
quickly with the radius of its orbit ( Johannes Kepler: The 1 4). Kepler s laws challenged
Aristotelean and Ptolemaic astronomy. His statement that the Earth

Compromise Essay
Compromise Essay
Prior to the 1820 s, the people of the United States had been struggling to find a way to solve
their sectional tensions brought on by slavery in the south. The south had always had an
economy based on agriculture that could not strive without their uses of slavery. They did not
plan on ending slavery anytime soon, especially since it was really all they had to support
themselves. They were against establishing an industrial based economy like the north had began
to do in the 1820 1830 s. The real cause of the sectional tensions between the North and the South
during the 1820 s 1860 s was not slavery itself, but how it affected each society so differently, and
it was very challenging to find a compromise to suit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Court also ruled that Congress lacked power to ban slavery in the U.S. territories. And lastly,
the Court declared that the rights of slave owners were constitutionally protected by the Fifth
Amendment because slaves were bought by owners, labeling them as property. In the North,
antislavery supporters were outraged by the outcome of the Dred Scott case, strengthening the
newly submitted Republican Party and helping ignite the violence between slave owners and
abolitionists on the frontier. The Missouri Compromise was declared unconstitutional under the
laws made in the Dred Scott v. Stanford Supreme Court Case in 1857. The case gave Northerners a
reason to fear Southern slave power. It left the nation indecisive on the actions it should take to
replenish the nation of what it needs to settle the sectional tensions in which were causing our
country to fall apart.
With the increased sectional tensions left untouched after the Missouri Compromise, California
wants in as a free state. Again, Henry Clay suggests an idea to keep from the occurrence of another
uprising like the one after the Missouri Compromise. The Compromise of 1850 had something to
offer for the North and the South. The Compromise would allow California to become a free state,
as a benefit for the North. It would also ban the selling of slaves in Washington D.C., another
benefit to the North. To make the south happy, it strengthened

Outline
Hypothesis
My belief was that the hot water would make the crystals grow quicker versus warm or cold
water temperature. But I did believe the warm would make them grow to, but the cold water
would be to cold for the crystals to grow
Thesis
The purpose of this experiment was to determine which temperature (hot, cold or room temperature)
affects the growth of crystals the most.
What are crystals?
Crystals are a piece of a solid substance with a natural shape or form with arranged plane faces. A
crystal is a group of molecules or atoms. Each of the crystals have a different shape. Like a sugar
crystal have an oblong, slanted end; and salt crystals have a cubic shape. Some substance will make
more than one form of crystals.

Building A Bridge Over A River Gorge
Chapter 12 Discussion Questions Q.1 Consider a project to build a bridge over a river gorge. What
are some of the resource constraints that would make this project challenging? Ans: Resource
constraints would include money/budget constraints, specialized equipment, large material
requirements, and personnel constraints revolving around contractors, and highly skilled
construction crew. A bridge is subject to many potential risks related to environment, technology
and physical construction. All put the project in jeopardy of overextending its budget which can
make monetary budgets and necessary reserves a central resource constraint. Due to the specialized
equipment and personnel required, scheduling these resources to arrive at appropriate times is
important. Equipment rentals and labor can be expensive, so it is important to schedule these
resources so that they arrive just in time for use, however this can be difficult to accurately predict.
It is also unlikely that the same personnel will be required throughout the project. One construction
team may be needed for pouring foundations, while another is hired to pave the driving surface.
Again, identifying, sequencing and scheduling these resources is vital to the project s on time
completion. Q.2 For many projects, the key resources to be managed are the project team
personnel. Explain in what sense and how project team personnel are often the project critical
resource. Ans: Project teams are created to

My College Journey
During my twelve years of school, I have grown accustomed to knowing the people and
businesses in my city, and they knew me. I didn t realize it, but the comfortable environment of
knowing my neighbors was limiting my emotional and social maturity. I did not have a reason to
step outside the box, because I was in a place of comfort. As I embark on to this new college
journey, I will face many challenges that will offer a fresh start, on beginning a new chapter of my
life. There will be stumbling blocks towards transitioningto college life. These blocks involve
meeting new people, being self sufficient, and adapting to my new environment. Although these
challenges are difficult, I know there will be many lessons learned. These lessons will only
build me as an individual mentally and socially. What I have learned during brief time at Xavier
is that I am now willing to allow myself to fly in the winds of life. I say that because, all
successful people have had to overcome their uncertainties. For instance, according to the article
10 Celebs Who Faced Their Fears on HuffPost, actress Sofia Vergara had to overcome her anxiety
of Hispanic viewers forming a new perception of her in order to fully play her role as Gloria on the
show Modern Family (Kuster) Another celebritywho had to defeat their fear is Bob Newhart
(Kuster). To become the successful comedian that he is, Newhart had to vanquish his stage
fright(Kuster). Like these successful individuals, I have some

Comparing Man s Search For Meaning And Logotherapy
An Introspective Look at Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning and Logotherapy There is an old
adage that implies that into every life, a little rain must fall, which suggests that some amount of
suffering, be it miniscule or great, is an unavoidable part of every human being s existence.
Undoubtedly, there are circumstances in one s life that are beyond his or her control.
Circumstances that will cause one to question his or her very existence and pose the question Why
me? Viktor Frankl experienced such an event when he was imprisoned in several Jewish
concentration camps during the Holocaust. Frankl s novel, Man s Search for Meaning (2006), gives
an account of Frankl s time spent in Jewish concentration camps. During this harrowing experience,
Frankl used the daily occurrences that surrounded him to observe and analyze the impact that such
suffering has on man. During his time in the camp, Frankl was stripped of his identity, his family,
and all of his material... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Frankl (2006), Logotherapy tries to make the patient fully aware of his own
responsibility: therefore, it must leave him the option for what, to what, or to whom he
understands himself to be responsible (p. 109). If one is aware of the responsibility that he or she
has to something or someone other than self, it contributes to the clarity in defining his or her
meaning of life. Although responsibility can give clarity on the meaning of life, Frankl asserts that,
ultimately, the meaning of life is found by doing a service or good deed, by loving another, and by
one s attitude toward unavoidable suffering. These aforementioned tenets are essential to one
finding one s meaning and to Logotherapy.

Hooliganism In An Afternoon By Ian Rankin
In Great Britain, hooliganism has a big influence when there are football matches. People fight
together and are acting crazy. Sometimes there can be big fights between two or more football
teams. Would you dare to stop them? How is it to be the security guy and has to keep it all clean?
In the short storyan afternoon written by the author Ian Rankin, we meet Rab, who works as a
security sergeant to provide safety between football matches. The text gives the reader an insight
into his life, problems and thoughts. And how he survives his days.
A 3rd person narrator tells the story, and it involves the reader into a lot of Rab s reflections and
thoughts. We only see it from Rab s point of view. When the football fans are described... Show

worried about his batty spells and his eyesight is weak. He wont go to a doctor characterizes him
as a strong and eager man. For instance, Rab has not been sick one day through his thirty years
of working as a sergeant in the football stadium. So it could be concluded that Rab loves his job,
but he is starting to realize some things about his situation. He is beginning to feel unlucky about
his working. It is clearly to see in the text, when he only focuses on how long it will be before
the football game is over. [...] Just let me get through another ninety minutes. Plus half time...

Lille Tissage
Executive Summary
Lille Tissages, S.A is a French company located in Lille. It was the largest company in the textile
industry in France.
During its activity, the company got in 2003 a good year with sales exceeding FF96million.
One of the items of the company, Item 345 a sole product for the company saw its price raised in
2002 from FF15 to FF20 a meter. This decision has been taken in order to strengthen the capital
position.
However, the competitors kept their price at FF15 for similar items and the company Lille

Question 3:Is there any possibility that competition might raise their prices if Lille Tissages
maintains its price of FF20? If so, how do you take this factor into your analysis?
Indeed, if Lille Tissages, S.A maintains its price of FF20 the competitors might raise their prices
even if it gives them a competitive advantage if they are lower. But because they all have higher
costs and some of them are in tight financial straits they might consider an increase of their price.
However, this raise of the competitors might be benefit to Lille Tissages, S.A. Indeed, we know
that Lille Tissages,S.A has a better quality than its competitor and the clients might choose a better
quality for a same price. And competitors will lose market shares which will benefit to Lille
Tissages, S.A that will gain those market shares.

New Mexican Culture In Bless Me, Ultima

qualities taken from the culture, readers will view the novel from multiple perspectives and
separate the realistic representations of the culture from fiction. Analyzing different elements from
the novel will demonstrate how the relationship between them brings the world of Bless Me,
Ultima to life. The elements of the llano, owl, and whirlwind will specifically examine Ultima and
her role as a curandera. These are just three of the elements, but all of them together are essential to

She teaches Antonio that even the plants [have] a spirit (Chapter 4). The llano is a sacred place
for her. The reader can see the importance of the care and handling of the plants is to Ultima
because she has a specific process of how to handle them. There is much history behind her
practice and she takes great pride in it. The llano is an extension of Ultima because as a
curandera, she uses plants as physical healing as well as spiritual healing. Ultima and Antonio have
an unexplainable connection through the whirlwind. When she places holds Antonio s hand, he
feels the four directions of the llano met in [him], and the white sun shone on his [soul]. This is
referencing an Aztec and indigenous perspective as physical and spiritual markers in finding one s
identity. Ultima is the whirlwind helping him to grow and mature into a young adult. In this scene,
the whirlwind is a powerful and positive force, but in western cultures, winds are almost always
seen as destructive and evil. This is a common contrast readers see throughout the novel with
Ultima. Each element, the owl, llano, and whirlwind, are a projection of everything Ultima
symbolizes. She is a guardian who watches over her family and the town, protecting them from the
evils that try to do harm. She is a healer that provides physical and mental healing. She is a teacher
that assists Antonio on his journey to becoming a young

You Just Don T Understand By Deborah Tannen
Communication is a continual balancing act, juggling the conflicting needs for intimacy and
independence says Tannen(27). For some couples finding that certain weight that will balance the
scale of communication can become interesting and a hard task. In the book You Just Don t
Understand, written by DeborahTannen, she gives many examples of how men and women
compete for a gender hierarchy, in which she believes that males and females compete for status in
society. She often believed that guys look down upon women, and do not care about what they
think. So by competing for a hierarchy, women and men almost challenge one another for social
and professional status. It s almost a game in which there isn t really a winner, but that... Show more

When Tannen was talking about asymmetry, she was trying to say that men and women were
trying to relate and overtake the other in the ladder of hierarchy. Women and men often compete in
society for status and a sense of belonging to their peers and society around them. Tannen does a
good job of explaining these specific parts of communication. Basically Tannen says, Women and
men have different ways of talking. Even with the best intentions, trying to settle the problem
through talk can only make things worse if it is ways of talking that is causing trouble in the first
place. (Tannen 79) In a sense Tannen is trying to say that obviously men and women have different
ways of communicating, and if they are having problems and are trying to settle them through
communication, that might not be the best way. If men and women have different ways of
communicating, then communicating to each other about their conversational problems, then that
s only going to cause a bigger problem. For example, a man might trying to present himself more
knowing than the woman, and might look down up on her, or the woman might do the same, and
then that conversation will just go back to competing for hierarchy status, where one is just trying
to be better than the other.
Men and woman find themselves gossiping to each other s peers, as a sense of connection and
belonging. Gossiping is a way of establishing a friendship connection or a sense of status in

Human Skeletal System And The Human Body
The femur, is the longest, heaviest, and strongest bone in the entire human body. In the human
body, all of the body s weight is supported by the femurs which are located in the human thigh.
The femur is classified as a long bone and extends from the hip down to the knee. The head of the
femur articulates with the pelvis to form the hip joint. The neck is a narrow connection between
the head of the femur and the diaphysis of it. The diaphysis is the shaft of the bone and the facet is
the small smooth articular surface at the end of the femur. The femur is made up of spongy bone,
compact bone, bone marrow, arteries, and veins. The femur bones are responsible for transmitting
force from the tibia to the hip joint. The femur is a very important part of the skeletal system. When
discovering the skeletal system and its interrelations you can learn a lot about the body. The human
skeletal system consists of exactly 206 bones, it also contains tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that
connects them together. The skeletal system performs vital functions such as support, movement,
protection, bloodcell production, calcium storage, and endocrine regulation. Infants are born with
270 bones, but some of them fuse together as the body develops. A bone in the skeletal system are
typically dense and tough on the outside, like a compact bone. When going deeper in the bone the
next layer is called spongy bone, which is lighter and more flexible. Some of these bones contain

Society In Brave New World
Brave New World s fictional society [World State] is practically an extreme, yet logically
developed version of our world s economic values, where economic growth and prosperity is
equated with the success of a society. It has several comparisons to the realistic one we live in
everyday. Huxley describes this part of his vision as being a consumer society, which evidently
was satire of the society he was living in and the one that still exists today. In which people buy
all they can and keep buying useless consumer items: nice clothes, food, and drugs. People
indulge in these items and become so happy that they lose and choose not to care about their
personal freedoms, which is why it is so easy for the World State s citizens to be controlled.
Religion is replaced by the reverence for technology. This can be seen throughout the entirety of the
book, since the World State s citizens substitute the name Ford, or Henry Ford, one of the most

on the side of the road led to this being an autopsy case. While preparing Chuck for his services, I

goes to show that he suffered first degree burns. First degree burns or hyperemia is any injury
caused by heat, which produces redness of the skin. This type of burn does not present any unusual
difficulty when embalming or preparing the body. Although it is discolored, we have to be thankful
that the skin will just be red, unbroken and has no tissue destruction. For the discoloration, I used a
stronger than normal arterial injection solution as a precaution against skin slip, applied massage
cream during the embalming process and used cosmetics after embalming to help reduce the
visibility of the burns on his hands and face. The fact that Chuck has a ruptured aorta causes some
difficulties and will affect the embalming process, however embalming can still take place. A
ruptured aorta will cause the embalming fluid to fill the cavity rather than going through the arterial
system. If one

Compare And Contrast Cash Flow Budget Vs Comprehensive Budget
The first thing to consider in deciding whether a cash flow budget would be more useful than a
comprehensive budget, is why they are different. Firstly, the comprehensive is one budget for a
designated period, such as 6 or 12 months. All income is calculated as one total, and each expense
is calculated for the entire period. Whereas, a cash flowbudgetis broken down into shorter periods,
generally per month, it provides a better look at how money is being spent each month.
For someone with inconsistent monthly income, this is a great type of budget since it compares
your income to expenses during those short times. Sometimes you may have a budget deficit, and
some months a surplus, a cash flow budget would show you that, whereas, the comprehensive

Complementary and Alternative Medicines Essay
Complementary and Alternative Medicines
Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) are medicines that are not considered
conventional medicine. Conventional Medicine is also known as Western Medicine and is often
practice by medical professional like medical doctors, nurses and therapist. The boundaries between
CAM and conventional medicine are not fixed, and because CAM has recently become more
accepted, the treatment combination of CAM and conventional medicine increased and the
boundaries between the two faded even further.
The increased interest in CAM can be due to a new awareness and the need of individuals to take
control of their health. CAM allows more flexibility with treatments and rely the control back to

African-Americans In The Race Of Life

What if the group of people that you are associated with are redeposit to losing? Now I am not

How Art Follow One Of The Five Formal Elements Of Art
All aspects of art follow one of the five formal elements of art. The elements are line, shape,
texture, color, and balance. Some elements are subdued, but some paintings have elements that are
very obvious. With the artists use of these elements he states what his style is, as well as, the use
of medium, and color that directs the viewer s eye to a specific area of the painting. I will choose
paintings to show these elements, how they are used, and what idea the artist is trying to show, and
give my impressions.
The first element I will address is shape. There are regular shapes that are geometric and irregular
shapes that show motion. I have chosen, for shape, Little Yellow Horses by Franz Marc, shown on
page 829. This painting was completed in 1912. The medium is oil on canvas in the Expressionism
style. It is currently displayed at Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, Germany.
Here we have a painting of three yellow horses with exaggerated curvature and is composed of
open circles. The artist saw yellow as a happy color and thought animals were more beautiful
than man. The curves are accentuated by the black manes of the horses. The two front horses
have an added open circle with their heads being down. The horse in the background has just a
slight curve of his back and the arc of his mane. In this work, at first glance, is a sea of yellow,
black and circles. Upon a closer look, the artist shows the beauty of the horse. The yellow along
with the blue and pink

Lil Wayne Satire
Hell, looking back at my childhood, it sure does feel good knowing I was born a millennial. I
don t even want to know who I d be today if I had grown up in a generation where Lil Wayne
wasn t regarded as the world s most symbolic and quintessential rapper thanks to his gangsta
esthetic and unparalleled wordplay. Sadly, paragons with the likes of Wanye have gradually
strayed further away from God s light through the years; consequently, as the cycle of life
continues to push forward and more people begin adding to the craft, it s impossible to imagine
where people will place these artists on their list decades down the line. Prayerfully not too low,
but due to the unfathomable amount of overrated, mindless rappers that both music listeners
have tagged as faces for a new generation, hip hop culture should be prepared to reach its lowest
point. This new wave of overly glorified rappers need to start being taken for what they truly are
and once you get a listen of their generic, monotonous music, it goes without saying that they are
average at best. Now, I can sit here and write a full on critique as to every little thing that I hate

Scarlet Letter Ending
Suddenly, a shiver ran down the spines of the duo of sinners and out of the brush burst a bone
chilling sight. Standing there upon the edge of the forest was their common enemy, he stood in a

Essay on UFO s and whether or not they are real; includes...
UFOs: Are They Real?
UFOs have been one of the greatest mysteries of all times. From the beginning of time humans
have seen UFOs. The real mystery is whether or not a UFO is a ship from another planet. There
have been numerous reports of flying saucers. Many of them have been able to be explained and
some were even elaborate hoaxes. But still, there are a few out there that are unexplainable and
could quiet possibly be visitors from somewhere else in the universe. Even the government has
admitted after long studies that some of the reported cases seem to lean towards extraterrestrials.
UFO stands for unidentified flying object. Therefore the facts clearly show that UFOs are real.

The next morning a team of Royal Air Force scientists were sent to the site. They found three
holes in the ground in a perfect equilateral triangle and in the middle was a piece of scorched
earth. There was also a line on all the nearby trees about 4 feet off the ground (Kettelkamp 19).
The scientists used a Geiger counter and found extremely high radiation readings from the site. The
next night the object appeared again in a nearby field. When investigated the site was similar to the
one from the previous night. The official report stated that the object that showed up on the radar
and was later seen in Rendlesham Forest could not be identified (Kettelkamp 24).
Sightings of UFOs have not been limited to just on Earth. There have also been many sightings
by astronauts in space. Gemini 7 photographed what appeared to be two flying saucers. Apollo 8
may have photographed what was a giant spaceship near the moon. On their next orbit the object
had disappeared. Apollo 11 may have also spotted a UFO near the moon. Possibly the most
famous and mysterious sighting is the picture taken by the Viking satellite. The photo shows what
looks to be a giant face on Mars. The face looks remarkably similar to the face on the Sphinx in
Egypt. Some believe it could be a giant monument from an alien race that once lived on Mars
(Kettelkamp 7). Photographic analysis could not identify any of the reported objects.

Sacagawea s Impact On The Lewis And Clark Expedition
Sacagawea s help on the Lewis and Clark Expedition Makes it a Success All across America
people know the name of Sacagawea, the Indian interpreter for the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Sacagawea was known for being the only woman on the expedition, but many people may not
know all the reasons as to how she survived being the only woman. She became strong through all
of the events that happened to her. Sacagawea, the only woman on the Lewis and Clark expedition,
survived because of events that happened to her at a young age and because of her good
interpreting skills. Sacagawea, also known as Bird woman, was the daughter of a Shoshonechief( A
Fine Boy ). Sacagawea s tribe, the Shoshone, was a very poor tribe(Patrick, Mcgrath). She was
born in either 1788 or in 1789(Patrick, Mcgrath). Sacagawea was captured by the Hidatsa
Indians at the young age of 12 and she was also raised by them( A Fine Boy ). Because she was
the daughter of an Indian tribe, she made the expedition a success and was able to accompany
Lewis and Clark on their return back to their own country(Fisher,Doris,pg 14). The expedition may
not have been a success without the courage and the knowledge of Sacagawea(Kelly, Stephanie,p

Gimpel The Fool An Analysis of Gimpel The Fool
Gimpel the Fool is a story written by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Saul Bellow translated the story I read
because the story was written in Yiddish. Gimpel The Fool is a story about a simple man named
Gimpel. He is considered by many to be a fool because he is a very gullible man. He is constantly
falling for tricks laid out by almost everyone. Gimpel is persuaded to marry Elka, a woman who
will wind up using him also. Elka treats Gimpel very poorly. She has his child only 17 weeks into
the marriage. Gimpel knows the child is not his, but allows himself to be persuaded into thinking
that some babies are born premature. Gimpel also catches Elka having an affair, but convinces ...

You are not a fool. They are the fools. For he who causes his neighbor to feel shame loses paradise
himself (Kennedy 69). He is married to her for 20 years, and when she is dying, she confesses, It
was ugly how I deceived you all these years. I want to go clean to my maker, and so I have to tell
you that the children are not yours (Kennedy 76). This is the wound to Gimpel s heart that leads to
the dramatic climax. The dramatic climax occurs when Gimpel buries the bad bread. This
symbolizes closure and his decision not to be evil for a second. He is done being a fool. He goes
into the world (Kennedy 77) and leaves Frampol, closing his ties with everyone even his family
whom he tells, Be well, and forget that such a one as Gimpel ever existed (Kennedy 77).
Because of this event his life is brand new, and his view of Elka is also brand new. She is no
longer turning black. She becomes the complete opposite of who she was in reality. She is loving
and supportive of her husband in his dreams, which he sees her in all the time.
Character may be defined as a verbal representation of a human being. By using character, the
author is able to portray which people play what role in the story. Singer used character to the fullest
when creating Gimpel. He is quite possibly one of the most annoying, yet interesting characters
ever created. I say he is annoying because you constantly

Carole King is a musical icon in the world of 20th century popular music, and her longevity and
success as an artist have cemented her as one of the influential musicians out of every genre of

Carole began songwriting in her early teens [1]. Shortly after, she helped form a quartet called the

Dissonance In Music
When listening to music, some people experience a strong emotional reaction towards it with
something that can be described as a tingling sensation running through the body (a.k.a.: chills ).
These chills are very distinct and clear, so they can be used in a scientific study involving music. In
previous studies, researchers have found that there is activity in certain regions of the brainwhich
relate to feelings caused by musicthat sounds jarring, or clashing tones of music. In the past, these
regions of the brain have been found to relate to emotion. However, the regions of the brain related

Security Is Not Only Survival, But Living Without Fear
Security is not only survival, but living without fear (Diskaya 2013). These words are essential in
understanding that the answer to dissecting security lay in the balance of varying schools of
thought. This analysis aims to examine whom security is for, rather whom are we securing, be it
the state or the individual. I will argue, going forward that there is no clear cut answer to this
question, for securitymust exhibit factors of each school of thought in order to adequately ensure
annihilation of global insecurity. Analyzing the works of scholars such as Barry Buzan, Ken

and what it truly means to be secure. There are five sectors in which... Show more content on

Furthermore, without examining threats to these individuals one cannot adequately examine the
root causes of larger scale global insecurities. For scholars like Ken Booth, the sovereign state is not
the main provider of security, rather one of the main causes of individual insecurity. Booth states
that their own governments rather than foreign armies have killed far more people (Booth 2007).
Traditional security policies effectively conceal some of the most fundamental human needs when
merely focusing on security in terms of aspirations to achieve national interests, thus failing to
protect the individuals that make up the state (Stone 2009). As Booth describes it people and
groups can only achieve true security if they do not deprive others of it (Booth 2007). It is not my
intention nor do I perceive it the intention of others to eliminate the ideals of traditional security all
together, rather it is my aim to reveal this non traditional approach in combination with the all
familiar state centric ideology of the realist and neorealist minds. In order to examine how and why
individual and human security is essential to adequately attempting a global sense of safety, I have

I took my family to our local McDonalds for lunch a week ago (after 1 pm) and waited in line for
over 25 minutes with only 4 other customers in line before us. Of the two cash registers
originally open, one lady (unable to read name covered by apron) left without informing the
people in line directly in front of her that she was closing. The assistant manager (I assume since
he had no name tag but was wearing a striped shirt (everyone else was wearing green shirts)) was

Unfortunately, he waited on us. We ordered salad shakers that ended up being (at best) warm.

An Analysis Of When Worlds Collide
The term When Worlds Collide describes the convergence of the old and new worlds. In the year
of 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed westward across the Atlantic Ocean with the hope of
finding a new sea route from Europe to India. Though he struck land, it was not Indian soil. Where
he landed was a new worldfull of promise and foreign goods, but also tragedy and challenges. Soon,
many nations from Europecame to the Americas, such as the Spanish, French, and the English. The
controversy between the worlds that followed this justifies the use of the word collide as opposed
to When Worlds Meet ; the collision vastly changed both worlds, positively and negatively.

However, what the Conquistadors did not realize was that the jewelry of the natives was the only
gold they had. A Spanish Conquistador turned missionary named Bartolome de las Casas described
the torturous conditions that the Spanish put the natives through in his book, The Deconstruction
of the Indies. Of all the nations that came to the Americas, the Spanish were by far the most cruel
and power hungry of them all.
On the polar opposite of the spectrum were the French. While the Spanish settled the southern
Americas and treated the Indians poorly, the French settled the northernmost parts of America, but
treated the natives with respect and honor. Instead of demanding things and forcing the Indians to
give them precious goods, the French traded with the natives and built an alliance with them. Many
Indians converted to Christianity because the religion was not being forced upon them, unlike the
Spanish and natives in the south. This type of alliance could be the basis of a strong bond between
the Indians and new settlers, but this bond is, again, broken when the English arrive to the east
coast of the native s land.
In 1606, the English entered the search for gold in the new world by settling in Jamestown,
Virginia. They faced harsh winters, scolding summers, and starvation, but perhaps the biggest
challenge in which they faced was the Powhatan Indians. This group of natives strongly defended

Benefits Of Charter Schools
Patrick Richter
Frye
15 December 2016
AP Seminar
Of the 52 million schoolchildren in America, fewer than 8 million attend private schools
(Lacayo).Background
Of about 30 cities that supply private school vouchers, only two are tax funded (Lacayo).
Background Since 1992, forty two states and the District of Columbia have enacted legislation for
charter schools (Green 303).Background
Charter schools differ from public because private organizations rather than the government govern
those (Green 304).Background
Overall, the goal of making more school choices available is to improve the quality of education
and, in turn, improve the students performance (Carrasco 125). Background

One collection of 90 different studies, however, concluded that charter schools fare about the same
or worse compared to public schools (Judson 256). Public is better
Measuring student achievement can be difficult because no source of information is strongly
accurate. Even standardized testing, which is widely considered a good source, cannot take into
account those who struggle with that type of assessment. In addition, they cannot be used when
looking at their school s impact, because their previous schools have effects on their learning as
well (Stevans 171). Difficulties
It cannot be verified either way whether improvements in school performance are due to additional
funding or to a more efficient use of available funds (Palardy 279). Difficulties
When certain schools, usually charter and private, are presented as better options than public
schools, it hurts the public schools chances of growing and improving (Foster 19).

Narrative Frames and Interpretive Models in Troilus and Criseyde
Interpretive certainty is purposely elusive in Geoffrey Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde . Meaning
within the text is convoluted and continually renegotiated. Any attempt to design a singular
coherent stable source of meaning is problematic at best. Throughout the work, narrative frames are
broken and reordered and the validity of any fixed interpretive model is challenged. Virtually every
broad thematic discussion developed is potentially qualified or compromised by the presence of a
key figure, the narrator of the poem. As an ever present observer, the narrator is both author and
audience to a sequence of events he essentially helps to create. He is ... Show more content on

The personality of the narrator is foregrounded and exists as a character engaged in an open
dialogue with the reader. The narrator is thoroughly unreliable in his ability to serve as the sole
source of information and insight, a figure possessing absolute control of the text. The authority of
the narrator is paradoxically undermined and underscored by admission of his own inadequacies in
shaping the text.
Whether from mythological beings, ancient writers, a fictitious mentor, or the actual reader of the
poem, the narrator claims to need support from outside sources in order to effectively tell the tale.
The narrator portrays himself alternately as reluctant, ignorant, or simply incapable of fulfilling
his duties. He invokes the powers of the Furies, Cleo, Venus, and the Fates at the beginning of
each book to inspire and enhance his narrative skills. The invocations not only serve as symbolic
bridges to the actions that follow in each book, but also allow the possibility of distance to develop
between the narrator and his creative responsibility to the work. By invoking the gods, the narrator
could be seen as an intermediary, a conduit, a pawn, rather than an active participant.
The narrator does not, however, wish to completely shirk his creative contribution to the text.
Instead, he attempts to qualify it. He likens his skill

Clayton County Population Health Case Study
Among all the factors that are attributed to population health, the environment is perhaps the
greatest. It is common knowledge in public health that if the physical environment is unhealthy, so
is the population that live there. Even though the many of the environmental issues are being
addressed by the State and County authorities, Clayton County is experiencing a slow rate of
change. While the air pollutionparticulate matter is declining, it is currently at 13.2, which is higher
than the national average of 9.5, and the 12.8 for the state s average.2 In addition, this county has
drinking water violations and severe housing problems. As a result of these and other environmental
issues, Clayton County ended up with a county ranking of 159 out of 159.1 This is not a good thing
for the population of Clayton County.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with the environment, this health factor is also a great indicator of the health status of a
population, because if babies are not being born or are dying prematurely, this can have long term
economic consequences and population decline. Therefore, it is paramount that much efforts are
put into lowering infant mortality rates According to State of Health Report, Clayton County
ranked high in infant mortality in the State of Georgia. In addition, it ranked highly in premature
births and low birth weight. The most current data show the infant mortality rate to be 9.2,
premature birth at 11.0 percent, and low birth weight at 10.4 percent among all ages and races.6
These disparities are much greater among the various age group and race. Because the issue of
maternal and child health is such a major factor in the overall health of the population of Clayton
County, the focus will be centered on the issues of infant mortality and the magnitude of the
problem confronting the population of this

Vertical Integration Walmart
Vertical integration is a business growth strategy for economics of scale. It is typified by one firm
engaged in different parts of production example; growing raw materials, manufacturing,
transporting, marketing, and/or retailing to expand business in existing market for the firm. It can
function in two directions both forward integration and backward integration.
In Forward integration involves company to develop strategy to control the firm product
distribution either through distribution centers or retailers. It is a necessary action when companies
have potential benefits from handling, shipping of their own products directly to customers, or the
retail selling their own products in brand stores.
In backward integration involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having strong presence in the retail industry, the firm expanded business to offer second hand car.
The firm leverage on its competencies to provide its own product to consumer. Also, Wal Mart
works heavily with its suppliers. This symbiotic relationship can be seen as vertical integration due
to the level at which Wal Mart analyses its suppliers and improves their manufacturing processes.
Wal Mart definitely has the business strategy of Low Cost Leadership. They do nothing to really
differentiate themselves from competitors and provide no frills self service stores that always
provide the lowest prices. Wal Mart has built enough clout with suppliers that they can dictate the
prices and go in and change suppliers manufacturing processes in order to wring out more and more
savings for the consumer.
However, it is not always the case that all firms should develop vertical integration strategy to
enjoy economic of scale. Firm like boutique or niche items that produces on a small scale are not
suitable to implement as it will benefit less from vertically integrated mainly because the input
demand for grow is small and due to exclusive nature their prices are inelastic as compare to
industry like Oil and Gas Industry, Telecom, Media, automobile developed vertical integration
strategy .
The main advantage of the vertical integration is the increased control. For instance, Wal Mart with
large market share is attractive to supplier. Though

Free Will In Sophocles Oedipus The King
The Illusion of Free Will in Sophocles Oedipus the King
Does free will truly exist? Or is free will simply a construct created by humans? A plethora of
professionals that study metaphysics have debated the controversial topic on just what exactly the
human mind is capable of.
Sophocles Oedipus the King tells the story of a king who is destined to kill his father and marry
his mother. Kurt Fosso, author of Oedipus Crux: Reasonable Doubt in Oedipus the King explores
the theory of determinism in Sophocles Greek tragedy. In contrast, P.H. Vellacott leans toward a
fatalistic point of view in his article, The Guilt of Oedipus. Personally, in the case of Oedipus, free
will was an illusion as he was ultimately doomed to fulfill the prophecy.

P.H. Vellacott notions that The terrible destiny of Oedipus is shown as one put upon him by
supernatural powers in general, by that comprehensive Fate which governs every man s life.
(Vellacott, 139). All the events that take place during our lives are not a result of coincidence.
For example, Oedipus finding himself at the place where three roads meet is not due to bad luck;
he was fated by a super natural power. Outside forces are responsible for all that is malevolent and
virtuous in our lives.
From a fatalistic point of view (like that of Vellacott s), Oedipus free will was nonexistent since
the beginning. This doesn t mean that Fosso s determinist mentality is wrong. Oedipus was a
victim; a pawn of the gods. Unfortunately, everything he did or could have done lead him closer
to actualizing the prophecy. It is unlikely that we will ever know whether humans do in fact have
free will. In the meantime, we can choose to believe that free will exists; even if our fate is already

Hidetora And King Lear Comparison
Shakespeare s plays, that ultimately became movies, have always encouraged directors to create
their own adaptations of his works. There are numerous titles that connect with each other through
various plots, themes, and characters. For example: King Lear, directed by Michael Elliot, and
Ran, directed by Akira Kurosawa. Both of these films show similarities with the two characters of
King Lear and Hidetora, each own their own kingdoms within the stories with their families. During
the two films the two leaders of each kingdom deliver an announcement at the beginning of each
movie stating their resignation as leader to their children. Most believe that relinquishing their

already becoming apparent. Releasing the ownership of the land is the beginning of these
choices. Each King in history thanks his power to his kingdom and hold over the land. In this
case, that power leaves Lear s possession at the point when he gives up his land to his children.
Unfortunately his choices do not get any wiser; the banishment of his favorite and most loyal
daughter Cordelia, along with his servant Kent, begins to really show his irrational decision
making. When Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters ...he creates a
situation in which his eldest daughters gain authority over him and mistreat him (Bard). After
dividing the land, his daughter Goneril sets out to betray her father by taking over the kingdom.
Before setting off on his own madness, Lear takes his knights and stays with Goneril, partying all

Enhancement of the conductivity and dielectric properties of PVA/Ag nanocomposite films using
Оі irradiation.

Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt
Abstract
The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA
films was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then
irradiated with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the
PVA film were determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be
0.4 wt %. The films have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements.
As a result, the dielectric constant (Оµ) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase.
The conductivity of the films and dielectric loss (tan Оґ) of increases with increasing the gamma
irradiation doses. The conductivity was found (Пѓ = 4.9 x10в€’8 S mв€’1) for 125 KGy. Frank
poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism for all samples.

Alpena Stats Study
Cassie and I have conducted an experiment for our Probs and Stats project. We did and experiment

the students in Alpena High listen to music. As a result of this experiment we were hoping that
listening to either classical or rap improves testscores.
Our population size is the students at Alpena High. Therefore, narrowing it down to AP classes
in the morning as our sample size. In this experiment we had four variables, which is advance
students (categorical), time of day (categorical), type of music (categorical) and our time interval
of one minute (quantitative). As a result of our variables a T test would be best because, we won
t know the population deviation. On the other hand, our randomization issue we decided to have a
different test for each class, as well as each day (3 days). Then each day we rotated classical, rap

Types Of Speech Databases
IV.Speech Databases Once the features used for emotion detection are selected, the feature vector
for a number of training data samples should be obtained. Consequently, the next important phase
of building the SER system is to select the database. Prior to selecting the database, it is vital to
understand the different kinds of databases available with speech percepts [4]. Datasets for speech
signals that can be used for emotion detection should be tagged with a text label that denotes the
category of emotion expressed in the speech. Based on the environment used for data collection,
the databases can belong to one of the following categories. 1.A simulated dataset in one in which

emotions recorded in this dataset belong to six categories, namely: Anger, disgust, fear, joy,

emotion detection system is to use all the collected data and its features to identify the emotion
expressed in it. To perform this a classifier algorithm can be used to create a classification model.
There are several options of classification algorithms that can be used for this purpose. Some of
the top choices of algorithm based on research and existing systems include Bayes classifier,
Support Vector Machines (SVM), Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), K nearest neighbors
(KNN), Hidden Markov Models (HMM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Bayes classifier
[11] is one of the oldest classification algorithm that works based on the Bayes Theorem. Bayes
theorem works based on prior probability values and assumes independence between the features
used for analysis. The bayes classification model works efficiently on very large datasets. It is
simple and easy to build. Bayes classifier used in emotion detection for speech gives an average
accuracy of 67%. The nearest neighbor algorithm is a lazy learning algorithm that analyses many
training data samples and relates every test data sample to the closest matching train data sample to
produce an output [12]. In this algorithm a

Tourette s Syndrome Research Paper
Tourette s syndrome is a disorder which affects the motor and verbal ability of a person suffering
from the disorder. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and
discuss. One of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms
and intensities. Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest
to look into it more. Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the
disease changes with people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884
by Georges Albert Г‰douard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his
mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In
an article published by Gilles, Tourette s was described as having the following: childhood onset,

  • 3. Essay on Johannes Kepler Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who lived between 1671 1630. Kepler was a Copernican and initially believed that planets should follow perfectly circular orbits ( Johan Kepler 1). During this time period, Ptolemy s geocentric theory of the solar system was accepted. Ptolemy s theory stated that Earth is at the center of the universe and stationary; closest to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, expanding towards the outside, are Mercury, Venus, and the Sun in a straight line, followed by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the fixed stars . The Ptolemaic system explained the numerous observed motions of the planets as having small spherical orbits called epicycles ( Astronomy 2). Kepler is best known for introducing three... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His first law states, The orbits of the planets are ellipses, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse. As shown in Figure 1, The Sun is not at the focus of the ellipse, but is instead at one focus [usually there is nothing at the other focus of the ellipse]. The planet then trails the ellipse in its orbit, which implies that the Earth Sun distance is continually changing as the planet goes around its orbit. Kepler s second law states, The line joining the planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times as the planet travels around the ellipse. As shown in Figure 2, an imaginary line from the center of the sun to the center of a planet sweeps out the same area in a given time. This means that planets move faster when they are closer to the sun. Kepler s third and final law states, The time taken by a planet to make one complete trip around the sun is its period. The ratio of the squares of periodic times for two planets is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their mean distances from the sun. Kepler s third law indicates that the time taken by a planet to orbit the Sun increases quickly with the radius of its orbit ( Johannes Kepler: The 1 4). Kepler s laws challenged Aristotelean and Ptolemaic astronomy. His statement that the Earth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compromise Essay Compromise Essay Prior to the 1820 s, the people of the United States had been struggling to find a way to solve their sectional tensions brought on by slavery in the south. The south had always had an economy based on agriculture that could not strive without their uses of slavery. They did not plan on ending slavery anytime soon, especially since it was really all they had to support themselves. They were against establishing an industrial based economy like the north had began to do in the 1820 1830 s. The real cause of the sectional tensions between the North and the South during the 1820 s 1860 s was not slavery itself, but how it affected each society so differently, and it was very challenging to find a compromise to suit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Court also ruled that Congress lacked power to ban slavery in the U.S. territories. And lastly, the Court declared that the rights of slave owners were constitutionally protected by the Fifth Amendment because slaves were bought by owners, labeling them as property. In the North, antislavery supporters were outraged by the outcome of the Dred Scott case, strengthening the newly submitted Republican Party and helping ignite the violence between slave owners and abolitionists on the frontier. The Missouri Compromise was declared unconstitutional under the laws made in the Dred Scott v. Stanford Supreme Court Case in 1857. The case gave Northerners a reason to fear Southern slave power. It left the nation indecisive on the actions it should take to replenish the nation of what it needs to settle the sectional tensions in which were causing our country to fall apart. With the increased sectional tensions left untouched after the Missouri Compromise, California wants in as a free state. Again, Henry Clay suggests an idea to keep from the occurrence of another uprising like the one after the Missouri Compromise. The Compromise of 1850 had something to offer for the North and the South. The Compromise would allow California to become a free state, as a benefit for the North. It would also ban the selling of slaves in Washington D.C., another benefit to the North. To make the south happy, it strengthened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the water temperature is ready for all 3 jars, have 1 person go to a jar in the areas they were placed (refrigerator, heating pad, and closet) and measure and put 2 tbs of rock salt into all 3 jars, with each person measuring at the same time. 6. In 3 days you will see the full growth of crystals. Outline Hypothesis My belief was that the hot water would make the crystals grow quicker versus warm or cold water temperature. But I did believe the warm would make them grow to, but the cold water would be to cold for the crystals to grow Thesis The purpose of this experiment was to determine which temperature (hot, cold or room temperature) affects the growth of crystals the most. What are crystals? Crystals are a piece of a solid substance with a natural shape or form with arranged plane faces. A crystal is a group of molecules or atoms. Each of the crystals have a different shape. Like a sugar crystal have an oblong, slanted end; and salt crystals have a cubic shape. Some substance will make more than one form of crystals. • 7. Building A Bridge Over A River Gorge Chapter 12 Discussion Questions Q.1 Consider a project to build a bridge over a river gorge. What are some of the resource constraints that would make this project challenging? Ans: Resource constraints would include money/budget constraints, specialized equipment, large material requirements, and personnel constraints revolving around contractors, and highly skilled construction crew. A bridge is subject to many potential risks related to environment, technology and physical construction. All put the project in jeopardy of overextending its budget which can make monetary budgets and necessary reserves a central resource constraint. Due to the specialized equipment and personnel required, scheduling these resources to arrive at appropriate times is important. Equipment rentals and labor can be expensive, so it is important to schedule these resources so that they arrive just in time for use, however this can be difficult to accurately predict. It is also unlikely that the same personnel will be required throughout the project. One construction team may be needed for pouring foundations, while another is hired to pave the driving surface. Again, identifying, sequencing and scheduling these resources is vital to the project s on time completion. Q.2 For many projects, the key resources to be managed are the project team personnel. Explain in what sense and how project team personnel are often the project critical resource. Ans: Project teams are created to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My College Journey During my twelve years of school, I have grown accustomed to knowing the people and businesses in my city, and they knew me. I didn t realize it, but the comfortable environment of knowing my neighbors was limiting my emotional and social maturity. I did not have a reason to step outside the box, because I was in a place of comfort. As I embark on to this new college journey, I will face many challenges that will offer a fresh start, on beginning a new chapter of my life. There will be stumbling blocks towards transitioningto college life. These blocks involve meeting new people, being self sufficient, and adapting to my new environment. Although these challenges are difficult, I know there will be many lessons learned. These lessons will only build me as an individual mentally and socially. What I have learned during brief time at Xavier is that I am now willing to allow myself to fly in the winds of life. I say that because, all successful people have had to overcome their uncertainties. For instance, according to the article 10 Celebs Who Faced Their Fears on HuffPost, actress Sofia Vergara had to overcome her anxiety of Hispanic viewers forming a new perception of her in order to fully play her role as Gloria on the show Modern Family (Kuster) Another celebritywho had to defeat their fear is Bob Newhart (Kuster). • 9. Comparing Man s Search For Meaning And Logotherapy An Introspective Look at Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning and Logotherapy There is an old adage that implies that into every life, a little rain must fall, which suggests that some amount of suffering, be it miniscule or great, is an unavoidable part of every human being s existence. Undoubtedly, there are circumstances in one s life that are beyond his or her control. Circumstances that will cause one to question his or her very existence and pose the question Why me? Viktor Frankl experienced such an event when he was imprisoned in several Jewish concentration camps during the Holocaust. Frankl s novel, Man s Search for Meaning (2006), gives an account of Frankl s time spent in Jewish concentration camps. During this harrowing experience, Frankl used the daily occurrences that surrounded him to observe and analyze the impact that such suffering has on man. During his time in the camp, Frankl was stripped of his identity, his family, and all of his material... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Frankl (2006), Logotherapy tries to make the patient fully aware of his own responsibility: therefore, it must leave him the option for what, to what, or to whom he understands himself to be responsible (p. 109). If one is aware of the responsibility that he or she has to something or someone other than self, it contributes to the clarity in defining his or her meaning of life. Although responsibility can give clarity on the meaning of life, Frankl asserts that, ultimately, the meaning of life is found by doing a service or good deed, by loving another, and by one s attitude toward unavoidable suffering. These aforementioned tenets are essential to one finding one s meaning and to Logotherapy. The Influence of Logotherapy on the Counseling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, Rab has not been sick one day through his thirty years of working as a sergeant in the football stadium. So it could be concluded that Rab loves his job, but he is starting to realize some things about his situation. He is beginning to feel unlucky about his working. It is clearly to see in the text, when he only focuses on how long it will be before the football game is over. [...] Just let me get through another ninety minutes. Plus half time... added time... Although there a lot of qualities taken from the culture, readers will view the novel from multiple perspectives and separate the realistic representations of the culture from fiction. The elements of the llano, owl, and whirlwind will specifically examine Ultima and her role as a curandera. There is much history behind her practice and she takes great pride in it. The llano is an extension of Ultima because as a curandera, she uses plants as physical healing as well as spiritual healing. Ultima and Antonio have an unexplainable connection through the whirlwind. When she places holds Antonio s hand, he feels the four directions of the llano met in [him], and the white sun shone on his [soul]. This is referencing an Aztec and indigenous perspective as physical and spiritual markers in finding one s identity. Ultima is the whirlwind helping him to grow and mature into a young adult. In this scene, the whirlwind is a powerful and positive force, but in western cultures, winds are almost always seen as destructive and evil. This is a common contrast readers see throughout the novel with Ultima. Each element, the owl, llano, and whirlwind, are a projection of everything Ultima symbolizes. For some couples finding that certain weight that will balance the scale of communication can become interesting and a hard task. In the book You Just Don t Understand, written by DeborahTannen, she gives many examples of how men and women compete for a gender hierarchy, in which she believes that males and females compete for status in society. Women and men often compete in society for status and a sense of belonging to their peers and society around them. Tannen does a good job of explaining these specific parts of communication. Basically Tannen says, Women and men have different ways of talking. Even with the best intentions, trying to settle the problem through talk can only make things worse if it is ways of talking that is causing trouble in the first place. If men and women have different ways of communicating, then communicating to each other about their conversational problems, then that s only going to cause a bigger problem. For example, a man might trying to present himself more knowing than the woman, and might look down up on her, or the woman might do the same, and then that conversation will just go back to competing for hierarchy status, where one is just trying to be better than the other. In the human body, all of the body s weight is supported by the femurs which are located in the human thigh. The femur is classified as a long bone and extends from the hip down to the knee. The head of the femur articulates with the pelvis to form the hip joint. The neck is a narrow connection between the head of the femur and the diaphysis of it. The diaphysis is the shaft of the bone and the facet is the small smooth articular surface at the end of the femur. The femur is made up of spongy bone, compact bone, bone marrow, arteries, and veins. The femur bones are responsible for transmitting force from the tibia to the hip joint. Chuck passed away in a car accident after his car crossed the centerline, was hit by another car and then upon impact burned. Amazingly, Chuck got out of the car but later died on the side of the road before help had arrived. Chuck s ability to get out the car and dying on the side of the road led to this being an autopsy case. While preparing Chuck for his services, I noticed that he has light discolorations on his hands and face due to his car catching on fire. This goes to show that he suffered first degree burns. First degree burns or hyperemia is any injury caused by heat, which produces redness of the skin. This type of burn does not present any unusual difficulty when embalming or preparing the body. Although it is discolored, we have to be thankful that the skin will just be red, unbroken and has no tissue destruction. For the discoloration, I used a stronger than normal arterial injection solution as a precaution against skin slip, applied massage cream during the embalming process and used cosmetics after embalming to help reduce the visibility of the burns on his hands and face. Whereas, a cash flowbudgetis broken down into shorter periods, generally per month, it provides a better look at how money is being spent each month. Some elements are subdued, but some paintings have elements that are very obvious. With the artists use of these elements he states what his style is, as well as, the use of medium, and color that directs the viewer s eye to a specific area of the painting. I will choose paintings to show these elements, how they are used, and what idea the artist is trying to show, and give my impressions. The first element I will address is shape. There are regular shapes that are geometric and irregular shapes that show motion. I have chosen, for shape, Little Yellow Horses by Franz Marc, shown on page 829. This painting was completed in 1912. The medium is oil on canvas in the Expressionism style. It is currently displayed at Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, Germany. Here we have a painting of three yellow horses with exaggerated curvature and is composed of open circles. The artist saw yellow as a happy color and thought animals were more beautiful than man. The curves are accentuated by the black manes of the horses. The two front horses have an added open circle with their heads being down. The horse in the background has just a slight curve of his back and the arc of his mane. In this work, at first glance, is a sea of yellow, black and circles. These words are essential in understanding that the answer to dissecting security lay in the balance of varying schools of thought. This analysis aims to examine whom security is for, rather whom are we securing, be it the state or the individual. I will argue, going forward that there is no clear cut answer to this question, for securitymust exhibit factors of each school of thought in order to adequately ensure annihilation of global insecurity. Furthermore, without examining threats to these individuals one cannot adequately examine the root causes of larger scale global insecurities. For scholars like Ken Booth, the sovereign state is not the main provider of security, rather one of the main causes of individual insecurity. Booth states that their own governments rather than foreign armies have killed far more people (Booth 2007). Traditional security policies effectively conceal some of the most fundamental human needs when merely focusing on security in terms of aspirations to achieve national interests, thus failing to protect the individuals that make up the state (Stone 2009). As Booth describes it people and groups can only achieve true security if they do not deprive others of it (Booth 2007). It is not my intention nor do I perceive it the intention of others to eliminate the ideals of traditional security all together, rather it is my aim to reveal this non traditional approach in combination with the all familiar state centric ideology of the realist and neorealist minds. A Spanish Conquistador turned missionary named Bartolome de las Casas described the torturous conditions that the Spanish put the natives through in his book, The Deconstruction of the Indies. Of all the nations that came to the Americas, the Spanish were by far the most cruel and power hungry of them all. On the polar opposite of the spectrum were the French. While the Spanish settled the southern Americas and treated the Indians poorly, the French settled the northernmost parts of America, but treated the natives with respect and honor. Instead of demanding things and forcing the Indians to give them precious goods, the French traded with the natives and built an alliance with them. Many Indians converted to Christianity because the religion was not being forced upon them, unlike the Spanish and natives in the south. This type of alliance could be the basis of a strong bond between the Indians and new settlers, but this bond is, again, broken when the English arrive to the east coast of the native s land. • 50. Phy Irradiation Essay Enhancement of the conductivity and dielectric properties of PVA/Ag nanocomposite films using Оі irradiation. Kamal M. Abd El Kader , Wahib M. Attia , Ahmed .G. El Shamy * Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt Abstract The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA films was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then irradiated with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the PVA film were determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be 0.4 wt %. The films have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements. As a result, the dielectric constant (Оµ) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase. The conductivity of the films and dielectric loss (tan Оґ) of increases with increasing the gamma irradiation doses. The conductivity was found (Пѓ = 4.9 x10в€’8 S mв€’1) for 125 KGy. Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism for all samples. Keywords: Dielectric properties, Dc conductivity, I V characteristics. *Corresponding author; A .G. • 51. Alpena Stats Study Cassie and I have conducted an experiment for our Probs and Stats project. We did and experiment to see if listening to music during a test affect your scores. This experiment is relative by most of the students in Alpena High listen to music. As a result of this experiment we were hoping that listening to either classical or rap improves testscores. Our population size is the students at Alpena High. Therefore, narrowing it down to AP classes in the morning as our sample size. In this experiment we had four variables, which is advance students (categorical), time of day (categorical), type of music (categorical) and our time interval of one minute (quantitative). As a result of our variables a T test would be best because, we won t know the population deviation. On the other hand, our randomization issue we decided to have a different test for each class, as well as each day (3 days). Then each day we rotated classical, rap and no music in each class.Meanwhile our sampling method would be a cluster sampling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At least 10 minutes was taken up of each class so we could do the experiment. One of us went to the front and explain why we are doing it and what they were doing, while the other person passed out the test. To keep this anonymous experiment we only had them put the date and hour, then they had to flip over so they couldn t see the test, Once everyone had their test flipped over and they were ready we did on the count of three to get them started on the test. Giving them a minute to the test. Then later in class we graded all the test. Once we got all the test for the three days we got each class averages and compare how they class did within the three days. Also compared all of the rap, all the classical and all the no music. Likewise, the best way to organized our data was by a bar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Types Of Speech Databases IV.Speech Databases Once the features used for emotion detection are selected, the feature vector for a number of training data samples should be obtained. Consequently, the next important phase of building the SER system is to select the database. Prior to selecting the database, it is vital to understand the different kinds of databases available with speech percepts [4]. Datasets for speech signals that can be used for emotion detection should be tagged with a text label that denotes the category of emotion expressed in the speech. Based on the environment used for data collection, the databases can belong to one of the following categories. 1.A simulated dataset in one in which actors who are trained artists record speech percepts in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The volunteers belonged to different genders and cultures and spoke different languages. The emotions recorded in this dataset belong to six categories, namely: Anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness and surprise. V.Speech Emotion Detection Algorithms The main function of the emotion detection system is to use all the collected data and its features to identify the emotion expressed in it. To perform this a classifier algorithm can be used to create a classification model. There are several options of classification algorithms that can be used for this purpose. Some of the top choices of algorithm based on research and existing systems include Bayes classifier, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), K nearest neighbors (KNN), Hidden Markov Models (HMM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Bayes classifier [11] is one of the oldest classification algorithm that works based on the Bayes Theorem. Bayes theorem works based on prior probability values and assumes independence between the features used for analysis. The bayes classification model works efficiently on very large datasets. It is simple and easy to build. Bayes classifier used in emotion detection for speech gives an average accuracy of 67%. The nearest neighbor algorithm is a lazy learning algorithm that analyses many training data samples and relates every test data sample to the closest matching train data sample to produce an output [12]. In this algorithm a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Yarra River Prior to European settlement: The Yarra River is not big at all compared to other rivers in the world. It only runs for 242km. It is not very deep or wide either. Its source is off the flanks of Mt Baw Baw to its mouth at the head of Port Phillip Bay. For the aboriginies of the Wurundjeri tribe, the Yarra River was a water source, a food source and a bathing source. European settlement: Charles Grimes was the first European to discover it. He named it Freshwater River . The second explorer who rediscovered the river was John Batman. He is more ronound because he traded 600,000 acres of Melbourne, including most of the land now within the suburban area, 40 blankets, 42 tomahawks, 130 knives, 62 pairs of scissors, 40 pairs of reading glasses,250 handkerchiefs, 18 shirts, 4 flannel jackets, 4 suits and 150 lb of flour for a... It takes in around half of Melbourne s water and produces almost 40 billion litres of recycled water. The plant was constructed in 1888. Prior to this, disposing human waste was extremely basic. Sewage would be collected and dumped into water ways such as the Yarra and Hobsons Bay. The idea was to construct a system of pipes, sewers and drains built underground to carry sewage from homes and factories to a sewage treatment farm. 1970 s and 80 s urban renewal programs in lower course of ... • 54. Tourette s Syndrome Research Paper Tourette s syndrome is a disorder which affects the motor and verbal ability of a person suffering from the disorder. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and discuss. One of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms and intensities. Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest to look into it more. Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the disease changes with people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884 by Georges Albert Г‰douard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In an article published by Gilles, Tourette s was described as having the following: childhood onset, hereditability, stereotyped movements, repetition of spoken words and foul language, etc. At the time, Gilles was only able to accurately document the illness...
