The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate social responsibility is paramount in any organization. It involves the need for a corporate
organization to go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups and
manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. Corporate take it
upon themselves and come up with an initiative to assess and take responsibility for the company s
effects on the environment and impact on social welfare. This may involve incurring short term costs
that do not provide an immediate financial benefit to the company, but instead promotes positive
social and environmental change (Crowther Aras 2008). Our founder Bill Gates has set an exemplary
model through the creation of Bill Gates Melinda Foundation that has lifted the lives of many poverty
stricken people throughout the world. It is in line with this noble initiative by our founder that we are
working to uphold the precedents set by our founder that we are setting out to launch the proposed
(CRS) dubbed The Green Hills Initiative .
The Green hill initiative is a project that will involve planting trees in the Olympic forest near the
Olympic Peninsula. This is a project that will socially benefit the community near Redmond,
Washington, where the Microsoft headquarters is located. With the increased consumer awareness on
the various environmental issues, companies are made to take up proactive steps in supporting green
initiatives ( Corporate Programs , n.d.). This by all

Feminist Facts About Victim Blaming
Victim Blaming Victim blaming can be defined as a devaluing act where the victim of the said crime
is blamed and held partially responsible for the outcome committed against them (Ben David,
Schneider, 2005). As displayed throughout this paper, from historical times to present day there still
manages to be the idea that the victim plays some kind of role in their sexual assault taking place. In
1980 an important study was done that is still relevant today. Brown s study showed the predictive
validity of feminist theoretical ideas about the nature of rape in America. The results show that many
Americans believed in rape myths with attitudes connected to gender role stereotyping (Burt, 1980).
Individuals in the research were asked questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For males, it is explained that they are always in the mood and therefore, cannot be sexually assaulted
(Ben David, Schneider, 2005). Another popular topic is victim perception. This is the understanding
that only certain types of people are sexually assaulted, additionally the victims must have been asking
for it in regards to what they were wearing or their profession such as prostitution. Lastly, another
example of victim blame is through fabrication, which is the thought that the victim must have lied
and over reacted as women do (Burt, 1980; Davies, 2012). Through recent advancements in the
feminist movement and recent topics of gender equality, it would be assumed that the public believes
less in rape victims today than they were in recent studies. Research from 2010 however, has found
that women are more likely to be evaluated as genuine rape victims under certain conditions: they
attempted to fight back (and have the battle wounds to prove it), they did not have a past history with
the accused, and they are a respectable, meaning they are well liked, are an outstanding student and so
on (Schuller 2010). People tend to evaluate female victims as more blameworthy if their attitudes
violate the specific traditional gender

The Theory Of Child Development
In the early 19th Century, little attention was given to children development. Emphasis were based
upon what a child would become as they get older( Green 2013)However, it was investigated by
human developmental psychologist that Child development is relevant in relation to how individuals
relate in the environment as well as the factors that influence human development. These
psychologists developed the human developmental life span which is predominant in the society
today, although remains unsubstantiated because of the dynamics of individuals and the environment.
The theories that will be discussed mainly in this essay are;Cognitive theory Jean Piaget, Social
Learning Theory Albert Bandura, Psycho social theory Erik Erikson ,Socio cultural theories Lev
Vygotsky. The Psychoanalytic theory will be explored to reflect on how his theories have been
integrated into other human developmental theories. Based on my observations, these theories will be
explored in detail.
This essay will discuss the relevant theories in relation to my subject,a 5 year old child, named Sandra
for purposes of this essay. The observation of this child will be explored in areas of Language
development, cognitive behaviour, and social learning. Attachment theories and cultural theory will be
discussed briefly. This essay will attempt to identify patterns of behaviour with an ideology in linking

The Theory Of Social Life
Theory Paper Throughout my social life I ve had many different experiences with different races and
ethnicities that relate to the ethnic related theories. I feel as if most of my encounters follow the
assimilation perspective. I know specific events and encounters but, it s easy to just observe these
things happening in your surroundings. The pluralist theory is pretty much the complete opposite of
the assimilation theory. In this theory the certain group doesn t conform to society but, they celebrate
their ethnic traditions. They are not ashamed of their culture; they are proud and want to display their
enthusiasm about it. The last theory are the power and stratification theories. These are more of a
structural problem that affects the whole ethnic group but; I know certain people that have to go
through these struggles. My social life consists with different events that coordinate with some of the
ethnic related theories. I wouldn t call the slice of my social life terribly diverse, but I have been
exposed to different races and ethnicities. I come from a quaint little town in the suburbs of Cleveland
called Painesville. The demographics of the city part of this township area is almost evenly split
between Hispanics and Caucasians with a higher percent of people belonging in these race groups,
while African Americans come in next then carried out with different races and ethnicities to fill out
the makeup of the township. My school was still more a prominently white

The Social Effects Of Prohibition
Prohibition (the Volstead act) was a legal prevention under the 18th amendment to the constitution to
prohibit manufacturing, transporting and selling alcohol beverages in the U.S. during 1920s. The
temperance movement argued for a long time that more people addicted alcohol and increased
physical violence when they got drunk. (increase intoxication) The U.S. government expected the
prohibition to be a solution to social problems, implemented for the country s well being. On the other
hand, prohibition had negatively impacts on increasing the organized crime rate because there were
high demands of alcohol, which (criminal businesses sold illicit alcohol) smuggling and bootleg

This meant they were doing businesses with society s demands. Women s lifestyle were more
traditional before 1920s, but mass culture inspired young women find a new way to enjoy their life.
More working women copied the flapper s lifestyle and they started to go to clubs, dancing and
drinking. Increasing an idealism among the American society, Americans and the society became more
loose. Thanks to high demands of alcohol, increasing numbers of Speak easies got into urban cities to
supply illicit alcohol. In 1929, the police commissioner of New York City estimated that there were
32,000 speak easies in the metropolis, double the number of saloons and blind pigs of the old days. 7
According to this estimated number of speak easies, more people went to speak easies for drinking
after prohibition enforced. Some speak easies were run by organized crimes that they sold alcohol

What Are The Similarities Between The Colour Purple And...
The Bluest Eye V.S The Color Purple
In my essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting Pecola from novel The Bluest Eye , and Celie from the
movie The Color Purple . In the novel, The Bluest Eye , Pecola, and from the movie The Color Purple
, Celie, share many similarities in their stories. But they also have many differences that make them
who they are. They re both very young girls, going through a lot of struggles that you really wouldn t
be able to imagine happening, yet at the same time you can even compare it to yourself. To start off, I
d like to make a few comparisons about Pecola and Celie. Things that are similar between the two
characters is their lives. Pecola and Celie are both very young girls. Between the ages of 11 15. They
go through things that no child, nor anyone should go through. Like their beauty, or their sexual
innocence. Not only that, they re similar into how they see themselves, and what they go through with
their family. But at some points, Celie also shares a similarity to Geraldine. A black woman who lives
like a white woman. For example, getting married to do house work, and to please the man. Both
Celie and Geraldine don t feel any type of love towards their supposed significant other, but to another
living thing. For Geraldine, its her black pet cat, and for Celie, it s her little sister, Netty The loss of
innocence is what both characters share. Pecola, while at home doing house work, her father Cholly,
stumbles in drunk. For a while, he stands there and looks at Pecola. Imagining her as a younger
version of Pauline, Pecola s mother and Chollys wife. As Pecola s cleaning, Cholly makes a move on
her. Though it s not the first time he tried something like this to Pecola, he did succeed. Right in the
kitchen is where Pecola is raped by Cholly, taking away her innocence and leaving her pregnant. But
she loses the baby. Just like Celie. Celie, after her mother s death, is left with her younger sister and
father. Being the big sister, she does everything in her power to protect younger sibling, such as
protecting her from their father sexually assaulting her. Celie, after getting raped by her father, gets
pregnant, twice. She loses both babies.

Time In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Dreams engulf Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream throughout this play from when Hippolyta
and Theseus talk about their wedding to Puck s final soliloquy. Hippolyta tells Theseus, Four nights
will quickly dream the night away the time (Shakespeare 25). She uses dreaming as a form of time
measurement. At the end of the play, Puck says in his final soliloquy, And this weak and idle theme,
no more yielding but a dream, gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend (Shakespeare
133 134). He conveys that if he offends anyone in the audience, he advises them to think of the play as
a dream. The roles of dreams involve time, emotions, and love. Some people believe that dreams carry
substance; others do not. Aristotle believes, For, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s plays typically involve two character s to one of his actors, so the solution [of having
more roles than actors] was doubling the roles (Smith 2). However, doubling was not simply a
practical necessity, but a representational technique that could also make connections and contrasts
between distinct characters or worlds (Smith 2). Some characters reverse roles in A Midsummer Night
s Dream: Theseus for Oberon, Hippolyta for Titania, and the rude mechanicals for the fairy attendants.
Everyone, it seems, in Dream is always someone else (Smith 2). Displacement takes place when we
transform the person or object we are really concerned about to someone else (Freud 7). Displacement
occurs everywhere in this play. An example of this behavior occurs in Act I when Egeus wants Hermia
to marry Demetrius and not Lysander. Hermia s opinion remains the opposite. Hermia is willing to
enter a convent rather than marry her father s choice, Demetrius, but the play does nothing to indicate
why she should so strongly prefer Lysander (Smith 6). Lysander and Demetrius appear
interchangeable. At the end of the play, the boundaries between Dream and reality seem blurry to the
character as they awake from there sleep Demetrius asks, Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to
me that yet we sleep, we dream (Shakespeare Act V). The characters do so many things and fall asleep
abundantly that they can not tell if they are

Professor Michael A. Peters
13 August 2015 Exploring citizenship, global citizenship, and global citizenship education
Abstract
With the progression of globalization, the recognition of how to be a good citizen and how to act as a
good citizen in the global age has drawn more and more attention. In addition, the direction of
education shifts from the knowledge and skills dissemination to building global values to be well
connected in the world. This paper aims to indicate multiple understandings of citizenship and
specifically interprets three dimensions of citizenship: citizenship as a status, as a practice and as a
feeling. Besides, understandings about global citizenship will be explored as well. Last but not the
least, how global citizenship education is applied to the concepts of citizenship and global citizenship
in order to be a good citizen and act as a good citizen.
Citizenship
With regard to the concepts of citizenship, there have been a significant variety of understandings.
Specifically, in Marshall s perspective (1950, p30), citizenship consists of civil, political, and social
citizenship. In addition, Marshall argues that the development of civil citizenship expanded, involving
political citizenship and social citizenship. Based on the three dimension model of citizenship,
Marshall, in

The Mining Of Marcellus Shale Industry
The Marcellus Shale Industry in Pennsylvania Despite it s long history of coal, oil, and gas
development, Pennsylvania has seemingly been overcome by the rapidity and scale of production
demonstrated with the recent boom of Marcellus Shale industry, which has companies, workers,
environmentalists, etc. flocking to its northern tier. However, controversy seems to have followed as
the economic criticism of the drilling industry is that it booms and then busts, generating few local
jobs and leaving little lasting economic benefit (Schwartz). Thus making it critically important not
only the economic impact, but also those of social, institutional and environmental now and in the
years to come ( Marcellus Shale ).
Marcellus Shale is geologically defined as a sedimentary rock that is located at least a mile below the
surface and developed approximately 380 million years ago, during Devonian times, in a region
referred to as the Appalachian Basin, which explains its prominence in the northeastern region of the
United States ( What ). But, more importantly, Marcellus is a specific example of natural gas that
contains a substantial concentration of methane, trapped in low permeability shale, which requires the
hydraulic fracturing or fracking ( Marcellus Formation ). The natural gas occurs within the Marcellus
Shale in several ways, including: the pore spaces of the shale, the vertical fractures that break through
the shale, and adsorbed on mineral grains and organic

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich. He
very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s music
was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure
of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the
melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his folk music. He was
a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and voice (occasionally using a
harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the
USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor
treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just something that was
made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on political and worldly events.

Social Control Theory
Social Control Theory There are many things in today s society that unknowingly control our actions
and behaviors. Bonds that exist with our surroundings have a profound effect on how we live our
lives. Since the 1900 s conformity has been the focus of every society here on Earth. If people are
given an idea about what is right or wrong and the outcomes for each decision are clearly shown; the
chance for deviance is greatly lessened. This summary will contain history of the social control theory
and how its ideas and beliefs have evolved today. The earliest known definition of the social control
theory was taken from E.A. Ross, a sociologist from the 1900 s. He believed that the things people
believed in made them conform to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The things people choose to believe make them who they are. There are negative beliefs and positive
ones. Everyone has them, most are brought up to believe a certain way or practice a certain type of
religion. Families pass down beliefs and ways of life from generation to generation. Different races
believe in different things, many religious but others exist too. When people believe in the system its
government provides they give back to it, and respect it. However, what some people believe in
conflict with the beliefs of others, and when two different types of beliefs clash the result can be ugly.
The bond between people and their society lessen when they don t believe in what it stands for.
Demonstrators for abortion or war are perfect examples of the beliefs people have and how they
choose to express their emotions physically. The containment theory states that every person has an
exterior structure and a protected interior structure. Both of these different types of structures are used
as a buffer for delinquency. Examples of a person s exterior structure could be belonging to a group of
people, the opportunity to gain a certain type of status within society, or a set of limitations or
responsibilities. Internal construction can be capitalized on by having a general positive outlook on
life, believing in ones self, and a good conscience. When these different constructs weaken in a person
the chance for deviant acts increase

where he studied and started his Psychology experiments. In 1961, he married Alexandra (Sasha)

The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media
Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media
platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are
able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be
misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used
as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the
entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media,
accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13).
That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino
community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in
the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all
acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to
make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during
after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant
information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use
were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there
was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was
gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was
classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped
together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and
analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general
representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as
they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was
included in the research itself.
Latinos have always been underrepresented in the

Analysis Of Plato s Democratic Government
It is interesting to demonstrate components and elements of Plato s idea of a Democratic government.
Plato s democracy was a governement for the people because all were welcome to participate, if
interested. The government s structure was split into groups including the ekklesia, boule, etc. Today, I
am a part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), and organization here at Temple
University. NSCS demonstrates some of the components found in Plato s democratic government.
This paper will examine the connection between Plato s Democratic government and the NSCS and at
Temple.

The structure includes and Ekklesia and a boule. The Ekklesia also known as the assembly are the
individuals interested in participating. The boule is the selected group who decides what is being
discussed. In NSCS, the general members would be Plato s Ekklesia and the E board would be the
boule. Because we decide what is discussed in our general body meetings. Every other week, myself
and the E board get together and discuss upcoming events, meetings, and volunteering. At the actual
general body meetings, we discuss the topics we ve selected beforehand and open the floor for anyone
to speak. The member has numerous opportunities to voice their opinions and suggestions.
Finally, freedom of speech is an important aspect within the democratic government and in NSCS it is
also important. The democratic government is for the people so it only makes sense that the people
have the freedom to express themselves. According to Plato, Freedom: Surely you d hear a democratic
city say that this is the finest thing it has, so that as a result it is the only city worth living in for

Ethnicity Reflection Paper
Reflection on My Ethnicity Wow, you are from China! Do you practice Kongfu? This was the very
first question I was asked by a classmate from my MBA program when I first came to this country 18
years ago. I felt sorry that I had to let him down by answering no, but he ought to understand that not
every Chinese was like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan.
For the years living in the United States, I was asked all kinds of questions regarding my ethnicity and
country of origin. Does China have radio? , ... China...How come your English is so good?! ,
...China...It must be very hard to live in your country, right? . With good intention, they intended to
generalize the major traits about an ethnicity and a country, based on limited personal knowledge and
experience. For people who never travelled out of the country or even their own state, it might be hard
to imagine an average family in China would not only have a radio, but color TV and VCR in 1999;
nor to imagine that all students started learning English from 5th Grade all the way through college
graduation. Back then, knowledge about China and Chinese was usually disseminated through
outdated documentaries or Hollywood Kongfu movies. when people don t seek to understand,
knowledge of ethnicity is mostly myth.
China has progressed profoundly during the past 30 years, especially in terms of economic
development and personal wealth accumulation. General perception toward China and Chinese has
shifted gradually during the course. Ten

him, in the end he said, We re more than just demons. I know that, we re hybrids. Zane interrupted.
Will you shut up and listen? Malice snapped. Zane detected that his happy go lucky friend had
vanished and had been replaced by an alter universe version of him. Zane held up his hands in order to
indicate his surrender and urged him to continue. Like I was saying, we are more than demons or
hybrids. There is more than one side to us. For example my demonic side, my elfin side and my
human side. What do you mean your human side? Zane asked. What I mean is we were all born
human before our bodies natured into our current natures. Just because we are no longer humans, it
doesn t mean that it still isn t in our blood or energy. Malice paused to see if Zane was following.
When he saw him nod, he continued. Now, each part of us has their different needs, wants, likes and

thoughts and cravings. When you bring every one of those aspects together, they create you as an
individual. Ah okay, I get what you mean. But what does all this have to do with finding our Chosen?

Classroom Discipline And Management Literature Review
Classroom discipline and management literature review
Introduction
It is a fact that classroom management and discipline has always been a challenge to pre service
teachers as they do not know and have not acquired the necessary skills to deal with unruly learners
effectively. Often so, teachers in service use strategies that are incorrect or rather unacceptable;
whether this is done intentionally or under certain desperation to gain control and respect of the
learners. It is prevalent across the globe. Although the South African system has used corporal
punishment for many years to maintain discipline and management in the classroom; there have
always been other alternative ways which are effective and better as opposed to the harsh way of
discipline. The Constitution of South Africa specifically banned the use of this harsh treatment
because of the awareness that children are vulnerable and defenceless; therefore they are the ones who
are at risk of being victims of crime, beatings and psychological trauma that are an ultimate result of
being bullied by adults. My claim is that strategies used to maintain classrooms in public schools are
not acceptable if they cause a negative effect to the development of our children. And I will argue that
there are other alternatives that could be used to make sure that the classes run smooth and without
causing any intimidation to either the learners or teachers in this industry, as the South African Journal
of Education mentions that

Narrative Progression In Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings
Happy Endings is a short story written by Margaret Atwood. The story is different than what readers
may be used to because it doesn t follow a traditional plot line. Instead, Margaret s story follows an
experimental narrative progression . This type of story progression is a way that an author can
manipulate, contort, or obscure the 5 Stages of Plot structure (Hillard, Point of View in Fiction ). In
this essay, I will explore how experimental narrative progression is used in Happy Endings , how it
works in the story, how it relates to the story, and my opinion on experimental narrative progression in
Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . How is experimental narrative progression used in Happy
Endings ? This type of story progression is used in this story because the story as a whole doesn t go
in order of a traditional plot line. The first story (the original story) serves as the ending for each of the
other versions that Margaret provides for the reader. Each of the new versions follow the same
characters as in the original story, but they lead different lives. For example, in the original story the
two characters fall in love with each other but in the next version of that story the man doesn t love the
woman even though she still loves the man. Also, Happy Endings uses experimental narrative
progression because there are several beginnings and middles based on the story as a whole. However,
there is only one ending which is the original story.

Descriptive Essay On Driving
Riding with my older sister, Alex, when she first started driving was terrifying. The car swerved and
jerked as she sped down the highway. Sitting in the backseat, my eyes were constantly wide with fear,
and I often found myself gripping the handle on the door until my knuckles turned white. Whenever a
car approached, my heart began to beat rapidly out of fear that she would hit it. However when my
other sister, Emily, started driving, I enjoyed riding with her. She drove the speed limit and rarely
swerved out of the lines. I could calmly sit in the backseat with my hands lying in my lap, my heart at
ease. It is amazing how two sister who went to the same driving class with the same instructor could
have such different parking skills, levels of distraction, and driving styles. Emily is by far a better
driver than Alex. One way Emily and Alex are different drivers are their parking skills. Alex hastily
parks, but Emily slowly and precisely parks. For example, Alex hurriedly pulls into the biggest
parking spot available, frequently parking crookedly and taking up two spots. However, Emily
carefully maneuvers her car into parking spots and will pull in and out to ensure she is within the
lines. Whenever Alex, Emily, and I went to highschool football games, we usually arrived late and
most parking spots had already been taken. Alex drove down countless blocks scanning the streets for
the largest and easiest spot to park in town; she always chose to walk four or five blocks in blistering
cold to get to the game rather than attempting to parallel park. On the other hand, Emily always tried
finding the spot closest to the football field even if it meant squeezing into a tight spot or parallel
parking.
In addition to parking differently, Alex and Emily are also opposites when it comes to distracted
driving. Alex is a distracted driver, but Emily is not. Whenever Alex drives, she is always
multitasking, fixing her makeup, eating, and messing with the radio. However, Emily only wants to
focus on the road when she is behind the wheel. For example, Alex did not like taking the time to sit
down and eat breakfast at home before school. Instead, she ate her breakfast while she was driving,
bringing her full smoothie cup

Art And Three Elements Of Art Influence In A Restaurant
The painting I will analysis is painting 4. The painting has described the context in a high end
restaurant. Based on the dress code of the guests, I guess this painting is in the past and those people
are lords. They are having conservation in the restaurant during leisure. It is noteworthy that some of
them wear heavy makeup.
Now, I will analysis this painting on three art elements and three principles of design. The most
significant element in this painting is color. Color acts as a vital role in many paintings. In this
painting, it depicted the atmosphere of the restaurant. Analyzing this painting as a whole picture, I
divided it into four corners evenly. The upper left corner is the group of people with two men at the
back. The upper right corner is the walls of the restaurant with two women. The hue of both upper
parts is tertiary blue green mixed up with little secondary orange. Despite this, blue green is still the
predominant color on both upper parts. The bottom left corner is the railing. The right bottom corner is
the floor of the restaurant and the woman with neutral black clothing. In regard to the details, the
outline of the railing is in tertiary red orange and the railing is in secondary orange. Among the group
of people, the men at the left and the woman in the middle wear primary red and tertiary red violet
clothing respectively. The major hue of left bottom part is secondary orange, tertiary red orange, and

One day while Artemis was exploring a new area of the forest and found a temple, a small questing

Starwars Episode 6 Essay
In starwars episode 6, Leia gets captured by Jabba the Hutt and released, Luke resumes his whining
(this time as a Jedi), and former Anakin turns to the light side after going through 3 episodes as Darth
Vader. Luke is like his father in the sense that he has lost his mother, he learned the force easily, and
he saved his father just as Darth Vader saved his son.
Luke is like his father, in the sense that he lost his mother. His mother died when giving birth to both
him and Leia, and although he didn t know his mother, he did have a similar attachment to a man he
called, Uncle Owen , who raised him, and then was killed by storm troopers. When Uncle Owen was
killed, Luke almost felt the same longing in his heart as his father before him, but handled it by feeling
sorry for himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he found her, she was beaten and dying. When she drew her last breath, Anakin was so
overcome with grief, he slew every sand person he could find. The action caused much anger in his
heart, which drew him into the dark side like a child running to his mother s embrace after he fell
down. So although Luke and Anakin were both put in the same position, they both handled life
disappointments differently, Luke feeling sorry for himself, and Anakin became unable to control his
anger which resulted in a turn of will.
Another way Luke and Darth Vader were similar but diverse, is they both learned the force easily.
Luke was his father s son, and he learned the force being taught by Yoda. Although Luke didn t have
the self confidence to believe that he could indeed complete certain tasks Yoda set before him, the
amount of iniclorianythingymagummies that ran through his veins, were only seen before in his father,

Research Paper On Post Modernism
Post modernism The second part of this essay is devoted to post modernism. I have chosen two
periods of Modernism and Post Modernism as they are so much interconnected, the further
development of modernism resulted in forming another movement in art, called as post modernism.
The word post modernism is over used nowadays and it gives the impression of being just nothing
behind the popular buzzword. Although, it is a separate movement, which has a number of
commonalities with modernism art, but at the same time has significantly different characteristics.
[12]
The world started to talk about post modern in literature in 50s, after the end of Second World War.
There was a strong historical background that influenced the authors. The rapid evolution of tensions
between the nations into of cold war, up growth of manufacturing leading to overconsumption,
Chinese Cultural Revolution, devastation after using US atom bombs in Japan, rapid development of
ICT and it is effect on the human communication, development of multi corporations, mass media
gaining the great importance in the society, all these could not leave the world of art without the
reaction. All these new phenomena formed the new way of perception. [13]
In post modern the denial of previous norms continues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In modernism it started with the presenting ambiguity of the texts. In post modernism intertextuality
developed into two dimensions: horizontal (writer reader relation) and vertical (one text to another
text relation). Post modernism doesn t hide the fact the texts are constructed, and sees the values of the
text in text s place in the network of texts. Borges, the key figure in Spanish speaking modern
literature, writes that The certitude that everything has been written negates us or turns us into
phantoms . [15] This becomes one of the core statements of post modernism: everything has been
already written .

Child Labor And Slavery
Child Labor and Slavery Very Rough Draft
Each year, as many as 2.7 million healthy years of life are lost due to child labor. Imagine that You are
being held as a slave and forced to do dangerous labor as a child. Many people are being held captive
and or being forced to do perilous things sweating their lives away, not taking breaks, and being put in
adult like situations. In fact right now there are 15 20 million children working as slaves. Although it
provides children and families with money, and possibly something to learn from, children should not
be enslaved or forced to do labor because it is very dangerous and can damage a child for the rest of
their life.
The employment of a child is most often very dangerous. Not only do children get diseases and
illnesses, while working many children get a drug addiction. Kids get addicted to drugs because they
are either forced or think that it will make their lives easier. In some opinions this can be true because
their lives are so bad they want to kill themselves which drugs can do. Some children are kidnapped
into child laborers and kept as a slave. Lots of parents send their children off to work everyday for
extra money. While this happens the place/person may kidnap them and keep them as slaves. When
children walk by themselves they also get kidnapped and forced into labor or may get killed for
money. Many children are dying from working. 22,000 children a year die from labor. There are many,
many causes from this such

The Art Of Paul Cezanne
Introduction Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were both profoundly influenced by the art of Paul
Cézanne, somewhat ironically since the latter is reported to have been quite uncertain of his artistic
contributions and anxious about his legacies (Merleau Ponty, 1945). Picasso described Cézanne as my
one and only master ; while Matisse noted that it is undoubtedly to Cézanne that I owe the most . The
Large Bathers was one of two final paintings produced by Cézanne in 1906, the year of his death. At
this stage Matisse had acquired a reputation as an upcoming artistic leader via an exhibition in 1905
(Bio, n.d. #1); while Picasso was a 25 year old prodigy who had already secured lucrative patronage
(Bio, n.d. #2). The three paintings of interest must be considered in the context of their artists
evolution. To examine the relationship between the three paintings, I will first briefly summarise the
artistic trends of the day to provide context, then examine The Large Bathers. I will then compare and
contrast Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre and Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, both with The Large
Bathers and with each other. Europe, 1906 The turn of a century brings with it opportunities for
reflection about the old and wonder about the new along with both excitement and trepidation. At the

Income Tax And Tax Rates
Income Tax
As the name implies income tax is a percentage of a person s income but it is not quite as simple as
the percentage changes depending on how much you earn on average in a year (See Figure 1) ergo if
you make more money you pay a larger amount of income tax, however most people get a Personal
Allowance of £10,000 a year which you don t pay tax on therefore if you don t earn more than this
amount you aren t required to pay any form of income tax. There are certain forms of income which
you don t pay tax for example certain state benefits, interest on savings, rental income below £4,250
and premium bonds.

VAT
VAT is a form of tax which is taken from the majority of goods and services, as well as certain goods

How to Reduce Teenage Pregnancy in America A nightmare can strike, even when the eyes of it s
victims are wide open. It can be unexpected, terrifying, a nightmare to see the dreaded two lines on the

Teenage pregnancy is not only expensive, but also puts the lives of the mother and child in danger.

In many cases you will not even have to skin the produce before you run it through the juicer that you

If you do decide to use some juicing recipes, ensure that you drink the juice that you make as fast as
you doubtless can. This way you get the nourishment from it. As the juice sits, it can begin to lose
some of the nutrients that are in it. So, the faster you drink the juice, the more nutrients you ll get into

It is not a smart idea to take any medications when you are drinking juices made from your juicing

Many of us who start using juicing recipes find that they begin to feeling a lot better. By means of all

Organisational culture is a source of competitive advantage and according to education portal (2015),
organisational culture is defined as a shared system of assumptions, values and beliefs, which governs
how people behave in organisations . These shared values will influence how employees of the
organisation will perform, act and dress. Furthermore, Every organisation develops and maintains a
unique culture and this will create guidelines for how members of the organisation will behave. The
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (2010) refers to organisational culture as an organisation
s personality . The IAEA also states that culture is not only important for keeping organisational goals,
but it appeals to attracting and keeping desirable employees which in turn improves the company s
public image and the company s cooperate relationships.
In order to further support my answer, this essay will explain and discuss the models and theories of
organisational culture. This essay will also link these models and theories to two UK based companies
to authenticate the models and theories.
Bosch (2015) is an example of a UK based company that knows the importance of organisational
culture. The company claims their corporate culture makes [them] unique and is reason for why their
associates are proud to work for Bosch. The company also claims that the culture forms a special bond

Veiling Essay
Does someone s dressing affect the way people treat them or look at them? In two article the authors
explain their main argument, that muslim covering does not hold any threat against other people and
that they should not be banned for many reasons that they explain throughout the text. The first article
is Veiled Intentions: Don t Judge a Muslim by her Covering by Maysan Haydar, the author explains
that veiling is not oppressive, and that the practicing of covering a woman s hair and body s is their
choice and it is not oppressed by men in their culture it is also not something negative to look upon of.
While in the other article Veiled Threats? by Martha Nussbaum she goes against claims to ban burqas

To appeal to her intended audience she used Ethos because she uses personal experience to explain her
evidence, this gives a personal insight in her life and the audience can see how her experience has
helpt her protecting her of sexual pressure. As for logos she used it for explanation of cause and effect,
since she wears the veil she doesn t go through much sexual pressure as other women. This claim is
somewhat weaker than the other one because it doesn t use a lot of detailed evidence of how it protects
a woman, it explains two points in two different scenarios but none of them really explain any other
type of protection, towards sexual pressure. The author could have used other evidence, such as other
detailed explanations of how her hijab protected her in other places that she has been too.
The second claim Haydar makes is that many Muslim women in america are not forced to veil. The
evidence she uses to back up this claim is that her parents gave her the choice to wear the hijab or not
and in addition she uses the Koran to show that it s not forced upon in any way. The koran states : Let
there be no compulsion in religion (2:256) A second evidence she uses for this claim to explain that
wearing a hijab is a choice is that even though she moved away from parents to New York, she
continued to veil even though her parents weren t around and she also mentions that she will let her

Desalination Plant Research Paper
As the drought bakes its way toward a fourth year, the state has a string of secret weapons in the
works that could supply millions of gallons of new drinking water and help stave off disaster:
desalination plants.
Seventeen plants are in planning stages along the coast to convert salt water from the ocean or bays,
including one near Concord that would serve every major water agency in the Bay Area.
That plant is tentatively targeted to open in 2020, but could be kick started earlier in an emergency,
officials say and once online, would gush at least 20 million gallons a day of drinkable water.
Starting up this string of desalination plants would be no easy skate, though.
Machines that filter salt out of water still face the same opposition they have for generations from
critics who say they are too expensive to run, kill fish as they ... Show more content on

If we didn t have it, the whole area would be in trouble. We re not under any rationing here, but then
we ve been practicing conservation for years already, so we are responsible about our water use.
I would absolutely recommend desalination for other areas.
Bay Area project
Two hours north of Sand City, there is cautious enthusiasm for the $150 million Bay Area Regional
Desalination Plant as well as serious reservations.
The biggest water agencies in the area, including San Francisco s, have been developing the plant
since 2003 and ran a successful small pilot version of it three years ago to make sure the location
would work. The plant would sit in windswept Mallard Slough outside Bay Point and draw from delta
waters flowing into Suisun Bay.
Certainly, the project is years out from being done, but it could be in the back of people s minds as a

Descriptive Essay About A Restaurant
Gazing out the summer heat surrounded by the bold skyline, the rest of the city appears flat as if the
skyscrapers are all that stands. The soundtrack of the thriving brightly lit city plays beneath. The
constant high pitched notes of long blaring horns and traffic whisking by being enough to feel
overwhelmed even without the breathtaking view. Dining often at this luxury rooftop, I have been able
to see the unsettling truth, my own rushed reflection.
There is a long row with two small sized black sofa s sitting across from each other in the middle,
there is a glass table set with a flower arrangement long enough to reach from one end of the couch to
the other. With my laptop bag in one hand waiting at the hostess stand, I feel relieved, when I see that
there is seating all the way at the end away from the loud laughing crowd for me to choose. The
hostess has been viewing the arrangement of seating for the restaurant for what seems like forever to
decide where to seat me. I repeatedly look at my watch having reached such a high level of frustration
with waiting for the hostess to pick where she would like to have me seated. Everyone waiting to enter
the restaurant behind me jumps and directs their attention to me as a loud BOOM! Is heard, my hand
slams down on top of the hostess seating chart that she has been studying for the past decade to decide
where I should be seated. Loose papers and pens fly like confetti. Looking her in the eyes and fiercely
grabbing a blue dry

The War Works Hard Analysis
The Relentless Machine
Through satire and irony using her perspective as an Iraqi woman, Dunya Mikhail personifies war as a
machine, rather than the traditional masculine perspective of heroism on the battlefield. In The War
Works Hard war is never ending; it is relentless and without mercy as it destroys everything in its
path, leaving an endless generational wake of scars among the civilian victims caught in the zone that
the war has chosen. The war scars forever.
Wars are often glorified in tone to give praise and respect for those on the battlefields. There is an
overall understanding that there are sacrifices needed in order to accomplish a larger goal. Excluded
from this understanding is the realization that the effects of war ... Show more content on

Does Writing Down Notes On Paper More Effective Than...
Does writing down notes on paper more effective than typing it?
Cerebrum: The cerebrum is the main part of the brain, which has two halves, or hemispheres. The
right hemisphere controls the left side of the body and deals with things such as creativity, music, and
art. While the left hemisphere of the cerebrum controls the right side of the body and is in charge of
language, problem solving, and math. The cerebrum s many tasks are carried out by its outer layer, or
its cortex. This has distinct areas that have different roles. Motor areas trigger movement; sensory
areas deal with the senses, while association areas clarify information.
Cerebellum: The cerebellum is responsible for producing smooth, coordinated movements of the body.
It analyzes incoming information about the body s current movement and position then interacts with
the primary motor cortex to precisely time muscle contractions.
Why does writing something down help us remember it better?
Our brain is separated into several regions that undergo different kind of information. Then there are
regions that process information such as visual, verbal communication, auditory, emotions, etc. These
different regions communicate with each other and each one of them has its own processes it has to
complete first. For example one looks at a piece of art and express their emotions with language, thus
working the verbal function part of the brain.

Housing Bubble Case Study
Why This Isn t a Housing Bubble
Housing prices have been rising steadily, but rumors of a new housing bubble are tempering optimism.
Many reports are suggesting that the current housing bubble is greater than the one that formed in
2006 and burst in 2008. But is there any truth to these dire predictions, or is it just media hype and
speculation?
Overvalued Homes Don t Equal an Impending Crash
Compared to the first three months of 2015, twice as many metropolitan home markets are now
considered overvalued. Overvalued here means that the prices are inflated compared to income. The
media says prices are likely to come crashing down, yet experts say this isn t the case. Just because
home prices are overvalued doesn t mean there s an impending ... Show more content on

At $236,000, the average sales price of a home in the United States is now above what it was in 2006.
Prices in 14 of the 100 largest metropolitan markets in the country are now above their historical
averages. Look a little deeper, however, and there are reasonable explanations for the spike in prices.
Of the 14 metropolitan markets mentioned above, six are in Texas, which recently experienced a huge
oil boom. Texas may serve as a microcosm for what s happening in the rest of the country.
High Demand, Low Supply
The most fundamental principle in economics is supply and demand. It just so happens that this very
simple economic truth is the cause of the so called bubble; housing demand across the country is high,
and supply is near record lows.
Ten years ago, the bubble was caused by free, easy credit that led many people to take out mortgages
they couldn t afford. This isn t the case today not at all. Recent mortgage regulations are now
beginning to take effect, and lenders and borrowers are more informed and acting more responsibly.
The Verdict?
Don t let the dire predictions in the media get to you. Mortgage rates are nearly 5% lower than their
historic averages, making it an excellent time to think about becoming a

Same-Sex Marriage Argument
Same Sex Marriage Argument
Sarah Springstube
PHI103 Informal Logic
Instructor DeFusco
August 4, 2014
Same sex marriage has been an issue among society for many years. Not all people understand there is
no ban on same sex marriage nor is it illegal. In all fifty states there are couples of the same sex who
live together, ones who choose their professional job to be in a workplace where joint benefits are
offered, and ones who choose a religious community which accepts their relationship. Those who
believe this is an issue and feel it should be illegal were likely raised to believe it is wrong to marry
someone of the same gender. Whether these people in society were raised by what their religion
believes or what their families have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyone could sit and debate this issue all day long, but understanding the reality of the situation is
another story. Everyone s reality is different and everyone s perspective on same sex marriage is
different. If society came together as a whole and realized that any person who is categorized as gay
has the same opportunities in life that anyone else has. They cannot help that they are gay, they were
born that way. Being who you are is especially important in order to feel accepted as a person.
Without the support of society and the government same sex marriages will bring a new chapter into
each and every state. It is up to the individuals in society to accept one not because of their sexual
orientation but be accepted for who they are as an individual. Listening to others debate this issue is
interesting and the feedback one encounters could make feelings change or become real.

Loyalty In The United States Army
According to the Army, Loyalty is to bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. constitution, the Army,
and other Soldiers. Loyal means to be devoted, faithful, and trustworthy. Therefore, no matter what
situation you find yourself in at wartime or peacetime you have to be faithful, trustworthy, and
devoted to the nation, the people and its customs and traditions. For instance, if I were going through a
financial problem and a foreigner came up to me and offered to pay me lump sum of money to give
them information that are considered classified. Instead of me accepting the easy way out to get out of
debt I would report him to the authority and my chain of command to prevent myself from committing
unlawful act and putting my comrades and my country in danger. ... Show more content on

Whatever opportunity that you are given by your Superiors you must accomplish it with all your will

same as Unit tasks or METL is every Soldiers duty to accomplish. Doing your duty as a Soldier means
more than just accomplishing a goal; it is a reflection of yourself, your unit, the U.S. Army, and the
United States of America. Respect goes both ways regardless of rank or position. The Army is a
profession of professionals and should always act toward others in a military manner. Treat others as

Persuasive Essay On National Service
Judge a leader by their level of service not their level of privilege, (US Army Ranger). National
service is the big idea of this generation. Citizens should have the opportunity and the responsibility to
serve for their country. National service involves people more with their community by allowing them
to have a voice and participate more with their communities. Citizens will come together stronger
after serving together. General Stanley McChrystal wrote a democracy journal explaining that it would
be in the best interest for everyone to join the service for one year. General Stanley McChrystal is a
retired four star general and the former commander of the U.S and International Security Assistance
Force in Afghanistan and of the Joint Special Operations Command. McChrystal talks about how the
government is run by the citizens and how the citizens give the government its voice. Also how the
problems that are starting to arise is history itself repeating. Joining the service for a year gives off
opportunity and confidence to the citizens. After the service these citizens gain a sense of
responsibility and hard work needed to pursue their dreams. Democracy is a system of government by
the whole population or all the eligible members of a state. Joining the military for one year gives
many benefits of the citizens because it creates a better government, it makes a more peaceful
community and it gives off a better education. Joining the military for one year gives many

  • 2. The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility Corporate social responsibility is paramount in any organization. It involves the need for a corporate organization to go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups and manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. Corporate take it upon themselves and come up with an initiative to assess and take responsibility for the company s effects on the environment and impact on social welfare. This may involve incurring short term costs that do not provide an immediate financial benefit to the company, but instead promotes positive social and environmental change (Crowther Aras 2008). Our founder Bill Gates has set an exemplary model through the creation of Bill Gates Melinda Foundation that has lifted the lives of many poverty stricken people throughout the world. It is in line with this noble initiative by our founder that we are working to uphold the precedents set by our founder that we are setting out to launch the proposed (CRS) dubbed The Green Hills Initiative . The Green hill initiative is a project that will involve planting trees in the Olympic forest near the Olympic Peninsula. This is a project that will socially benefit the community near Redmond, Washington, where the Microsoft headquarters is located. With the increased consumer awareness on the various environmental issues, companies are made to take up proactive steps in supporting green initiatives ( Corporate Programs , n.d.). This by all ... • 3. Feminist Facts About Victim Blaming Victim Blaming Victim blaming can be defined as a devaluing act where the victim of the said crime is blamed and held partially responsible for the outcome committed against them (Ben David, Schneider, 2005). As displayed throughout this paper, from historical times to present day there still manages to be the idea that the victim plays some kind of role in their sexual assault taking place. In 1980 an important study was done that is still relevant today. Brown s study showed the predictive validity of feminist theoretical ideas about the nature of rape in America. The results show that many Americans believed in rape myths with attitudes connected to gender role stereotyping (Burt, 1980). Individuals in the research were asked questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For males, it is explained that they are always in the mood and therefore, cannot be sexually assaulted (Ben David, Schneider, 2005). Another popular topic is victim perception. This is the understanding that only certain types of people are sexually assaulted, additionally the victims must have been asking for it in regards to what they were wearing or their profession such as prostitution. Lastly, another example of victim blame is through fabrication, which is the thought that the victim must have lied and over reacted as women do (Burt, 1980; Davies, 2012). Through recent advancements in the feminist movement and recent topics of gender equality, it would be assumed that the public believes less in rape victims today than they were in recent studies. Research from 2010 however, has found that women are more likely to be evaluated as genuine rape victims under certain conditions: they attempted to fight back (and have the battle wounds to prove it), they did not have a past history with the accused, and they are a respectable, meaning they are well liked, are an outstanding student and so on (Schuller 2010). People tend to evaluate female victims as more blameworthy if their attitudes violate the specific traditional gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theory Of Child Development In the early 19th Century, little attention was given to children development. Emphasis were based upon what a child would become as they get older( Green 2013)However, it was investigated by human developmental psychologist that Child development is relevant in relation to how individuals relate in the environment as well as the factors that influence human development. These psychologists developed the human developmental life span which is predominant in the society today, although remains unsubstantiated because of the dynamics of individuals and the environment. The theories that will be discussed mainly in this essay are;Cognitive theory Jean Piaget, Social Learning Theory Albert Bandura, Psycho social theory Erik Erikson ,Socio cultural theories Lev Vygotsky. The Psychoanalytic theory will be explored to reflect on how his theories have been integrated into other human developmental theories. Based on my observations, these theories will be explored in detail. This essay will discuss the relevant theories in relation to my subject,a 5 year old child, named Sandra for purposes of this essay. The observation of this child will be explored in areas of Language development, cognitive behaviour, and social learning. Attachment theories and cultural theory will be discussed briefly. • 5. The Theory Of Social Life Theory Paper Throughout my social life I ve had many different experiences with different races and ethnicities that relate to the ethnic related theories. I feel as if most of my encounters follow the assimilation perspective. I know specific events and encounters but, it s easy to just observe these things happening in your surroundings. The pluralist theory is pretty much the complete opposite of the assimilation theory. In this theory the certain group doesn t conform to society but, they celebrate their ethnic traditions. They are not ashamed of their culture; they are proud and want to display their enthusiasm about it. The last theory are the power and stratification theories. These are more of a structural problem that affects the whole ethnic group but; I know certain people that have to go through these struggles. My social life consists with different events that coordinate with some of the ethnic related theories. I wouldn t call the slice of my social life terribly diverse, but I have been exposed to different races and ethnicities. I come from a quaint little town in the suburbs of Cleveland called Painesville. The demographics of the city part of this township area is almost evenly split between Hispanics and Caucasians with a higher percent of people belonging in these race groups, while African Americans come in next then carried out with different races and ethnicities to fill out the makeup of the township. • 7. The Social Effects Of Prohibition Prohibition (the Volstead act) was a legal prevention under the 18th amendment to the constitution to prohibit manufacturing, transporting and selling alcohol beverages in the U.S. during 1920s. The temperance movement argued for a long time that more people addicted alcohol and increased physical violence when they got drunk. (increase intoxication) The U.S. government expected the prohibition to be a solution to social problems, implemented for the country s well being. On the other hand, prohibition had negatively impacts on increasing the organized crime rate because there were high demands of alcohol, which (criminal businesses sold illicit alcohol) smuggling and bootleg industries developed by gangsters (and organized crimes). • 8. What Are The Similarities Between The Colour Purple And... The Bluest Eye V.S The Color Purple In my essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting Pecola from novel The Bluest Eye , and Celie from the movie The Color Purple . In the novel, The Bluest Eye , Pecola, and from the movie The Color Purple , Celie, share many similarities in their stories. But they also have many differences that make them who they are. They re both very young girls, going through a lot of struggles that you really wouldn t be able to imagine happening, yet at the same time you can even compare it to yourself. To start off, I d like to make a few comparisons about Pecola and Celie. Things that are similar between the two characters is their lives. Pecola and Celie are both very young girls. Between the ages of 11 15. They go through things that no child, nor anyone should go through. Like their beauty, or their sexual innocence. Not only that, they re similar into how they see themselves, and what they go through with their family. But at some points, Celie also shares a similarity to Geraldine. A black woman who lives like a white woman. For example, getting married to do house work, and to please the man. Both Celie and Geraldine don t feel any type of love towards their supposed significant other, but to another living thing. For Geraldine, its her black pet cat, and for Celie, it s her little sister, Netty The loss of innocence is what both characters share. Pecola, while at home doing house work, her father Cholly, stumbles in drunk. For a while, he stands there and looks at Pecola. Imagining her as a younger version of Pauline, Pecola s mother and Chollys wife. As Pecola s cleaning, Cholly makes a move on her. Though it s not the first time he tried something like this to Pecola, he did succeed. Right in the kitchen is where Pecola is raped by Cholly, taking away her innocence and leaving her pregnant. But she loses the baby. Just like Celie. Celie, after her mother s death, is left with her younger sister and father. Being the big sister, she does everything in her power to protect younger sibling, such as protecting her from their father sexually assaulting her. Celie, after getting raped by her father, gets pregnant, twice. She loses both babies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hippolyta tells Theseus, Four nights will quickly dream the night away the time (Shakespeare 25). She uses dreaming as a form of time measurement. At the end of the play, Puck says in his final soliloquy, And this weak and idle theme, no more yielding but a dream, gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend (Shakespeare 133 134). He conveys that if he offends anyone in the audience, he advises them to think of the play as a dream. The roles of dreams involve time, emotions, and love. Some people believe that dreams carry substance; others do not. Aristotle believes, For, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare s plays typically involve two character s to one of his actors, so the solution [of having more roles than actors] was doubling the roles (Smith 2). However, doubling was not simply a practical necessity, but a representational technique that could also make connections and contrasts between distinct characters or worlds (Smith 2). Some characters reverse roles in A Midsummer Night s Dream: Theseus for Oberon, Hippolyta for Titania, and the rude mechanicals for the fairy attendants. Everyone, it seems, in Dream is always someone else (Smith 2). Displacement takes place when we transform the person or object we are really concerned about to someone else (Freud 7). Displacement occurs everywhere in this play. An example of this behavior occurs in Act I when Egeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius and not Lysander. Hermia s opinion remains the opposite. Hermia is willing to enter a convent rather than marry her father s choice, Demetrius, but the play does nothing to indicate why she should so strongly prefer Lysander (Smith 6). Lysander and Demetrius appear interchangeable. At the end of the play, the boundaries between Dream and reality seem blurry to the character as they awake from there sleep Demetrius asks, Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to me that yet we sleep, we dream (Shakespeare Act V). The characters do so many things and fall asleep abundantly that they can not tell if they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Citizenship And International Development Education University of Waikato Exploring Citizenship, Gobal Citizenship, and Global Citizenship Education Global Citizenship and International Development Education PCSS507 Professor Michael A. Peters 13 August 2015 Exploring citizenship, global citizenship, and global citizenship education Abstract With the progression of globalization, the recognition of how to be a good citizen and how to act as a good citizen in the global age has drawn more and more attention. In addition, the direction of education shifts from the knowledge and skills dissemination to building global values to be well connected in the world. This paper aims to indicate multiple understandings of citizenship and specifically interprets three dimensions of citizenship: citizenship as a status, as a practice and as a feeling. Besides, understandings about global citizenship will be explored as well. Last but not the least, how global citizenship education is applied to the concepts of citizenship and global citizenship in order to be a good citizen and act as a good citizen. Citizenship With regard to the concepts of citizenship, there have been a significant variety of understandings. Specifically, in Marshall s perspective (1950, p30), citizenship consists of civil, political, and social citizenship. In addition, Marshall argues that the development of civil citizenship expanded, involving political citizenship and social citizenship. The Mining Of Marcellus Shale Industry The Marcellus Shale Industry in Pennsylvania Despite it s long history of coal, oil, and gas development, Pennsylvania has seemingly been overcome by the rapidity and scale of production demonstrated with the recent boom of Marcellus Shale industry, which has companies, workers, environmentalists, etc. flocking to its northern tier. However, controversy seems to have followed as the economic criticism of the drilling industry is that it booms and then busts, generating few local jobs and leaving little lasting economic benefit (Schwartz). Thus making it critically important not only the economic impact, but also those of social, institutional and environmental now and in the years to come ( Marcellus Shale ). Marcellus Shale is geologically defined as a sedimentary rock that is located at least a mile below the surface and developed approximately 380 million years ago, during Devonian times, in a region referred to as the Appalachian Basin, which explains its prominence in the northeastern region of the United States ( What ). But, more importantly, Marcellus is a specific example of natural gas that contains a substantial concentration of methane, trapped in low permeability shale, which requires the hydraulic fracturing or fracking ( Marcellus Formation ). The natural gas occurs within the Marcellus Shale in several ways, including: the pore spaces of the shale, the vertical fractures that break through the shale, and adsorbed on mineral grains and organic ... Bonds that exist with our surroundings have a profound effect on how we live our lives. Since the 1900 s conformity has been the focus of every society here on Earth. If people are given an idea about what is right or wrong and the outcomes for each decision are clearly shown; the chance for deviance is greatly lessened. This summary will contain history of the social control theory and how its ideas and beliefs have evolved today. The earliest known definition of the social control theory was taken from E.A. Everyone has them, most are brought up to believe a certain way or practice a certain type of religion. Families pass down beliefs and ways of life from generation to generation. Different races believe in different things, many religious but others exist too. When people believe in the system its government provides they give back to it, and respect it. However, what some people believe in conflict with the beliefs of others, and when two different types of beliefs clash the result can be ugly. The bond between people and their society lessen when they don t believe in what it stands for. Demonstrators for abortion or war are perfect examples of the beliefs people have and how they choose to express their emotions physically. The containment theory states that every person has an exterior structure and a protected interior structure. Both of these different types of structures are used as a buffer for delinquency. Examples of a person s exterior structure could be belonging to a group of people, the opportunity to gain a certain type of status within society, or a set of limitations or responsibilities. The goal of Milgram s experiment was to find the desire of the participants to shock a learner in a controlled situation. • 17. The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media, accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13). That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was included in the research itself. With good intention, they intended to generalize the major traits about an ethnicity and a country, based on limited personal knowledge and experience. • 23. Classroom Discipline And Management Literature Review Classroom discipline and management literature review Introduction It is a fact that classroom management and discipline has always been a challenge to pre service teachers as they do not know and have not acquired the necessary skills to deal with unruly learners effectively. Often so, teachers in service use strategies that are incorrect or rather unacceptable; whether this is done intentionally or under certain desperation to gain control and respect of the learners. It is prevalent across the globe. Although the South African system has used corporal punishment for many years to maintain discipline and management in the classroom; there have always been other alternative ways which are effective and better as opposed to the harsh way of discipline. The Constitution of South Africa specifically banned the use of this harsh treatment because of the awareness that children are vulnerable and defenceless; therefore they are the ones who are at risk of being victims of crime, beatings and psychological trauma that are an ultimate result of being bullied by adults. My claim is that strategies used to maintain classrooms in public schools are not acceptable if they cause a negative effect to the development of our children. And I will argue that there are other alternatives that could be used to make sure that the classes run smooth and without causing any intimidation to either the learners or teachers in this industry, as the South African Journal of Education mentions that ... • 24. Narrative Progression In Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings Happy Endings is a short story written by Margaret Atwood. The story is different than what readers may be used to because it doesn t follow a traditional plot line. Instead, Margaret s story follows an experimental narrative progression . This type of story progression is a way that an author can manipulate, contort, or obscure the 5 Stages of Plot structure (Hillard, Point of View in Fiction ). In this essay, I will explore how experimental narrative progression is used in Happy Endings , how it works in the story, how it relates to the story, and my opinion on experimental narrative progression in Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . How is experimental narrative progression used in Happy Endings ? This type of story progression is used in this story because the story as a whole doesn t go in order of a traditional plot line. The first story (the original story) serves as the ending for each of the other versions that Margaret provides for the reader. Each of the new versions follow the same characters as in the original story, but they lead different lives. For example, in the original story the two characters fall in love with each other but in the next version of that story the man doesn t love the woman even though she still loves the man. Also, Happy Endings uses experimental narrative progression because there are several beginnings and middles based on the story as a whole. Sitting in the backseat, my eyes were constantly wide with fear, and I often found myself gripping the handle on the door until my knuckles turned white. Whenever a car approached, my heart began to beat rapidly out of fear that she would hit it. However when my other sister, Emily, started driving, I enjoyed riding with her. She drove the speed limit and rarely swerved out of the lines. I could calmly sit in the backseat with my hands lying in my lap, my heart at ease. It is amazing how two sister who went to the same driving class with the same instructor could have such different parking skills, levels of distraction, and driving styles. Emily is by far a better driver than Alex. One way Emily and Alex are different drivers are their parking skills. Alex hastily parks, but Emily slowly and precisely parks. For example, Alex hurriedly pulls into the biggest parking spot available, frequently parking crookedly and taking up two spots. However, Emily carefully maneuvers her car into parking spots and will pull in and out to ensure she is within the lines. Whenever Alex, Emily, and I went to highschool football games, we usually arrived late and most parking spots had already been taken. Alex drove down countless blocks scanning the streets for the largest and easiest spot to park in town; she always chose to walk four or five blocks in blistering cold to get to the game rather than attempting to parallel park. On the other hand, Emily always tried finding the spot closest to the football field even if it meant squeezing into a tight spot or parallel parking. In addition to parking differently, Alex and Emily are also opposites when it comes to distracted driving. Alex is a distracted driver, but Emily is not. Whenever Alex drives, she is always multitasking, fixing her makeup, eating, and messing with the radio. However, Emily only wants to focus on the road when she is behind the wheel. The employment of a child is most often very dangerous. Not only do children get diseases and illnesses, while working many children get a drug addiction. Kids get addicted to drugs because they are either forced or think that it will make their lives easier. In some opinions this can be true because their lives are so bad they want to kill themselves which drugs can do. Some children are kidnapped into child laborers and kept as a slave. Lots of parents send their children off to work everyday for extra money. While this happens the place/person may kidnap them and keep them as slaves. When children walk by themselves they also get kidnapped and forced into labor or may get killed for money. Many children are dying from working. 22,000 children a year die from labor. • 38. The Art Of Paul Cezanne Introduction Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were both profoundly influenced by the art of Paul Cézanne, somewhat ironically since the latter is reported to have been quite uncertain of his artistic contributions and anxious about his legacies (Merleau Ponty, 1945). Picasso described Cézanne as my one and only master ; while Matisse noted that it is undoubtedly to Cézanne that I owe the most . The Large Bathers was one of two final paintings produced by Cézanne in 1906, the year of his death. At this stage Matisse had acquired a reputation as an upcoming artistic leader via an exhibition in 1905 (Bio, n.d. #1); while Picasso was a 25 year old prodigy who had already secured lucrative patronage (Bio, n.d. #2). The three paintings of interest must be considered in the context of their artists evolution. To examine the relationship between the three paintings, I will first briefly summarise the artistic trends of the day to provide context, then examine The Large Bathers. I will then compare and contrast Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre and Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, both with The Large Bathers and with each other. Europe, 1906 The turn of a century brings with it opportunities for reflection about the old and wonder about the new along with both excitement and trepidation. At the entry to the twentieth century, social and technological change were continuing at historically unprecedented pace. The signs and pressures of development were all around and Europe was ... Cerebrum: The cerebrum is the main part of the brain, which has two halves, or hemispheres. The right hemisphere controls the left side of the body and deals with things such as creativity, music, and art. While the left hemisphere of the cerebrum controls the right side of the body and is in charge of language, problem solving, and math. The cerebrum s many tasks are carried out by its outer layer, or its cortex. This has distinct areas that have different roles. Motor areas trigger movement; sensory areas deal with the senses, while association areas clarify information. Cerebellum: The cerebellum is responsible for producing smooth, coordinated movements of the body. It analyzes incoming information about the body s current movement and position then interacts with the primary motor cortex to precisely time muscle contractions. Why does writing something down help us remember it better? Our brain is separated into several regions that undergo different kind of information. In all fifty states there are couples of the same sex who live together, ones who choose their professional job to be in a workplace where joint benefits are offered, and ones who choose a religious community which accepts their relationship. They cannot help that they are gay, they were born that way. Being who you are is especially important in order to feel accepted as a person.
