Who s Asleep Research Paper
Who s Asleep? Everyone needs to get a good night s sleep. While most adults need seven to nine
hours of sleep, school age children should average 10 to 11 hours a night. For individuals who
are not getting enough sleep, there are a variety of tips that have been shown to help. Reasons for
Sleep Sleep is extremely important for numerous reasons. First of all, sleep provides the body
with necessary time to rest and repair damaged muscles and cells. Research shows that the human
brain sorts through the day s events, stores information, and solves problems while people are
asleep. Lastly, getting a good night s sleep helps people have sufficient energy for the next day s
activities work, school, or recreation. Getting Better Sleep Fortunately,

Les Miserables And The Power Of One Comparison
In the movie Les Miserables, directed by Billie August and the movie The Power of One, directed
by John Avildsen, two different characters show many magnanimous characteristics. In these two
different movies, as society throws these characters obstacles, they manage to be tenacious,
protective, peaceful, ambitious, and active. In Les Miserables, the character Jean Valjeanis illustrated
as honorable through his protectiveness, peacefulness, and being tenacious. For example, Jean
shows his protectiveness. He promises to protect the daughter, Cosette, of a woman he loved. Jean
and Cosette escape to Paris. Years later, Cosette finds out something suspicious with Jean: Cosette,
you re right, I m not a father. I just want to protect you, that s... Show more content on

For example, PK shows his ambitiousness when he goes to Gideon s town. PK wants to teach
the Africans English so they can teach their children English. He goes to talk to his professor:
You taught us that inclusion not exclusion is the key to survival, sir. How will [the Zulu] ever
be included if they can t read or write English? (Avildsen 11). PK shows his trait of ambition
when he asks: How will [the Zulu] ever be included if they can t read or write English? . PK has
the strong desire to teach the Africans English so they can be treated fairly. Soon after, PK
shows the trait of activeness. PK s professor gives him the okay to start the African school. PK is
so excited, he goes to tell Maria: [Gideon] asked us to start a school. The headmaster gave us the
permission to use the study room. We re starting tomorrow night! Will you join us? (Avildsen
13). PK s activeness in the African s lives is shown when he says: We re starting tomorrow night!
. PK is obviously very excited to start the school, displaying his magnanimous character trait,
activeness. PK s final character trait is being tenacious, similar to Jean. The officials in South
Africa do not like when whites and blacks do activities together. PK teaching the Africans
English caused many issues with the officials. One day, the officials burst into the room PK was
teaching in, and a fight broke out between the officials and the Africans. Maria was struck by an
official and died: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... I had no more will to fight... I had
to leave for Oxford tomorrow (Avildsen 17). Similar to Jean, PK holds tightly onto Maria s love
she gave him and he is upset: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... . PK shows the trait of
being tenacious when he says I had no more will to fight... . In all, PK is characterized as

Argumentative Essay On Athens And Pericles
Athens was a major civilization located in ancient Greece. Athens was located on the ocean, which
led to it becoming a prominent trading center. The state was extremely wealthy with an
extraordinary, capable naval force. Women had no rights at all in Athens, so every one of the
choices were made by the men. The men of Athens had numerous obligations that they were
required to perform for society to run legitimately. Above all, they needed to take in every one of
the qualities by which their society taught them. Pericles believed that democracyexemplified a
governmental system that gave every citizen the right to vote, Xenophon opposes Pericles ideas
and proclaims that the worst of people may negatively affect the government, causing... Show more

He additionally glorified his people for the use of thought and deliberation on issues of
significance. Our public men have, besides politics, their private affairs to attend to, and our
ordinary citizens, though occupied . . . are still fair judges of public matters . . . instead of looking
on discussion as a stumbling block in the way of action, we think it an indispensable preliminary to
any wise action at all.
Xenophon, an ancient Greek writer, completely opposed the beliefs of Pericles. He explained the
various issues that arose in a democratic society. Xenophon resisted the idea that any person, no
matter his credibility, was given the same amount of power in the government system. Then there is
a point which some find extraordinary, that they everywhere assign more to the worst persons, to
the poor, and to the popular types than to the good men: in this very point they will be found
manifestly preserving their democracy. In this quotation, Xenophon refers to the fact

Summary Of Three Sovereigns For Sarah
The movie Three Sovereigns for Sarah is about a terrified town that is struck by the devils
witchcraft and takes extraordinarily inhuman actions to rid themselves of the bad fortune. The
story is told by an old woman who was accused of being a witch, but luckily lives long enough to
confront her accusers. Three Sovereigns for Sarah has many contributing factors as to why
witchcraftwas believed and used as a genuine reason to murder citizens of the thirteen colonies
such factors that lead to these absurd and ridiculous decisions and actions are likely to be based
off the early sexist concepts of gender roles that took place in the colonies, the strong pull to
uniform religious beliefs, and a superstition that terrified people into an... Show more content on

The religious beliefs of these days and ages were extremely strict, controlling, and very similar.
The priest in this movie was very influential, he was the sole reason for the belief in the
witchcraft that took over this town. Few males in charge made the decision to hang the Salem
witches, but essentially the priest made the overall decision. He fed stories to the other females
and males about their witchcraft and how the devils work had been done. It is believed that the
priest did this so he could control the land and money that was possessed by the women he
wrongfully accused and murdered. The early Colonists practiced Puritan religion. This religion
consisted of believing that God had formed an agreement with the Colonists. They claimed that
they were higher than all others and God made that known to them. They claimed that God wanted
them to set a better example for all the British people who were going to be damned to hell for all
the sins and filth they had done. This prompted the Colonists to live a very disciplined,
unsatisfactory, and dull life.
A definite theory on why the Salem Witchcraft was so strongly believed involved how powerful
gender roles were. Although it is claimed in the Puritan ways that women were to be treated with
kindness and consideration, they were to be seen very little and never heard. Wives and

In Praise of Margins Essay
In the essay In Praise of Margins Ian Fraizer upholds the importance of margins as a higher sort
of unpurpose (Fraizer 45) defined by his time in the woods (44). Fraizer and his friends spent most
of their time in their margins also known as stomping ice in the woods . Fraizer says that marginal
placeand activities are the most important kind (46) because they are where you can try out odd
ideas . Margins could be visiting a park, a friend s house, a dance studio or even a football field,
also doing things such as swinging on a tire, reading, watching movies, dancing or playing a sport.
He argues that margins whether places or activities are valuable because they allow a person to be

As they told themselves a frequent activity was exploring and the reader understand this was
marginal when he mentions they were all easily distracted from their exploration with the sight of
the perfect ice to stomp on. Fraizer explains these distractions to extend the understanding of
margins and that they don t require uninterrupted focus because a person doesn t have something to
accomplish, a marginal activity could result in another marginal activity that could have an
outcome. I consider watching movies a marginal activity for many, people go to the theater to
simply relax and get their mind off of other things. Movies let a person engulf themselves in the
lives of others, fall in love all over again with a romance, laugh away all problems with a comedy,
or feel a rush of adrenaline with an action movie. Films similar to these can create inspiration in
people to find love, to become a director, even to become a writer to create a script that will affect
people as the film affected them. Margins being without any purpose unintentionally result with a
person having a purpose every purpose filled activity we pursue in the woods began as just fooling
around . Through observing his kids actions when they encountered a ditch Fraizer remembers his
personal experiences with margins. To Fraizer and his friends the woods played an important role
in their childhoods, it acted as a place where they could let their imaginations run wild and pursue

The narrator was diagnosed by her husband as having nervous depression a slight hysterical

obsessive behavior, and paranoid tendencies. The hallucinations the narrator experiences adds a

Hearing Screening
Prior research has indicated that screening children for hearing loss as young as possible is
imperative, so that children with a hearing loss can receive treatment or an amplification device.
Failure to identify and manage hearing loss in adolescents can lead to impaired speech and
language development, poor social skills, and educational delays. Children in developing countries
typically do not receive newborn hearing screenings and they may not receive hearing screenings
in school. Cost, accuracy, accessibility, and trained personal are four of the major issues
concerning the absence of hearing screenings in developing countries. It was postulated that
computer based audiometer software was a low cost, accessible option for developing countries
that could be easily operated by less formally trained individuals.

Economy in Canada
In 2008 when the global economy took a turn for the worst Canada managed to come out on top.
This is thanks to the export of natural resources and commodities. The Canadian government
immediately took charge and start making budget cuts in order to have a full recovery by 2015.
(D.R., 2011) Canada has a large threat in its path; its dependence on the outside world.
Canada fared much better than was expected while other countries throughout the world declined
and fell into a recession. There are nine specific key indicators that are important to consider when
talking about Canadian economy. These are employment, unemployment, composite leading index,

Global Economy
The global GDP is expected to grow 3.2% in 2011. The financial crisis is no longer setting the pace
for developing countries. (The World Bank Group, 2011) Developing countries are close to
having regained full capacity levels. The global crisis is slowly coming to an end. (The World
Bank Group, 2011)There are many factors still playing a role in countries such as Japan with the
tsunami. (The World Bank Group, 2011) However, it appears the global economy is on a upward
slope.

Why Were The Colonial Days So Important
The Colonial days
By: Gabriella Freiberg
Why were the colonial days so important?
The colonial days were so important because if we didn t have these settlers come and build the
colonies, we wouldn t be living here today. The 13 colonies that have made up this land are New
Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania,
Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. There were so
many things they did to get food, water, resources, and etc. They were very creative people and
used lots of different inventions to live and get resources that they didn t have. One was the
triangular trade route. The name was given by the route which the goods from the colonies were
taken back to Europe. Europe made the things they traded for and sold them back to another
territory. While the triangular trade route started in the 1500 s it really didn t start working until
the mid 1600 s. Not all tribes used the triangular trade route some tribes just used their own
inventions to get from place to place. They had many jobs back then to keep the places running.

Driving Cars And Its Effects On Public Roadways
Throughout the past year, media outlets have reported that autonomous vehicles, or self driving
cars, will become increasingly used on public roadways. By 2020, it is estimated that
approximately 10 million vehicles featuring driverless capabilities will be used on roads across
the globe and vehicles that are completely autonomous, with no user interaction, are expected as
early as 2019. [1] By taking the human element out of driving, researchers developing driverless
car technologies claim that the use of cars with autonomous capabilities can help reduce traffic
problems, pollution, and significantly reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on public
roadways, as more than 90 percent of traffic accidents are caused by human error. [2] Vehicles
with driverless technologies that prevent the driver from accidentally swerving out of a lane and
automatically brake in response to objects in the road when the driver is distracted can already be
currently found on the market. Using a variety of sensors and cameras, these vehicles can detect the
surrounding road conditions and steer or brake in response to other drivers, pedestrians and objects
in the road to avoid collisions. During testing, researchers have also encountered situations where
collisions cannot be avoided due to unpredictable events that occur too quickly for autonomous
vehicles to respond in time. In these situations, crash optimization algorithms can be created to
allow the vehicles to respond in a way that

The Distance that Separates us from Shakespeare s...
The Distance that Separates us from Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
Without a doubt, Shylock of Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice has been a subject of much
controversy and debate for scholars and critics worldwide. Specifically, an element of his character
that has been thoroughly reviewed is the harshness with which he proposes his bond with Antonio.
As contemporary readers of the pound of flesh story we are naturally mortified by the fact that
Shylock would call for such barbarous terms. What many of us do not realize is that while we
might feel horror about the idea of the bond, the same is not necessarily true for an Elizabethan
audience. This story has been a major source of misunderstanding for many of its readers, as ...

The dialogue between Shylock and Antonio occurs as follows:
Shylock. This kindness I will show.
Go with me to a notary, seal me there
Your single bond, and, in a merry sport,
If you repay me not on such a day,
In such a place, such sum or sums as are
Expressed in the condition, let the forfeit
Be nominated for an equal pound
Of your fair flesh to be cut off and taken
In what part of your body pleaseth me.
Antonio. Content, in faith. I ll seal to such a bond,
And say there is much kindness in the Jew. (2.1.139 149)
It is clear in Antonio s response that he finds nothing extraordinary about these terms at all.
Without hesitation he accepts the conditions of the contract and even goes on to deem Shylock s
proposal as kind. In the Shakespearian sense of the word, kindness even means tenderness,
affection, love, or humaneness (Grebanier, 98). This should suggest to us that the idea to stake a
pound of Antonio s flesh is by no means a representation of Shylock s devilishness or cruelty. After
all, according to Shylock himself, it is only in a merry sport that they shall enter such an agreement.
In light of textual scrutiny, it is also worthwhile to re examine the court scene in which Shylock is
now demanding the fulfillment of the bond. Shylock s relentless pursuit of his pound of flesh again
serves to discredit his character in

Essay On Bacteriophage Therapy
According to CDC and EMA statistic the annual death toll due to multi drug resistant bacterial
infections is estimated at 23,000 in the US and 25,000 in Europe (Aminor). Western medicine
depends on antibiotics for everyday illnesses but, antibiotics are becoming a serious issue for future
healthcare. The United States is being propelled into an era of medicine where the effectiveness of
antibiotics is rapidly declining. In the United States, methicillin resistant S.aureus (MRSA)

Common names that are associated with the first investigation into the phenomenon of phages
are Frederick Twort, a medically trained bacteriologist from England, and Felix d Herelle, a
French Canadian microbiologist. The history of phage discovery and research is so complicated
that the scientific world has simply accepted referring to the discovery as the Twort d Herelle
phenomenon. Twort was the first to notice and describe the characteristics of lysis associated with
phage infection in 1915. However, Abedon states that it was d Herelle who identified the source of
this phenomenon and coined the term bacteriophage . D Herelle was also the first to use phages
therapeutically and successfully (2). Due to the limitations of the time, and the poor delivery of
phages where intended, most of d Herelle s work was scrutinized throughout the scientific
community.
Treatments throughout the world had mixed success from the very beginning. In one trial of phage

the control group and only 5 in the experimental group. However, because of the lack of reliability
and other limitations that were present during the time period, phage therapy was widely dismissed
by most of western medicine, especially after the introduction of pharmaceutical antibiotics in the
1940 s (Lin, Koskella and Lin). Even though experimenting in the United States was

Greed In The Fisherman And His Wife By The Grimm Brothers
Flaws such as greed become a sin when it starts to have an impact on others. Greed, rage, lust,
anger, sloth, pride, envy and gluttony are the 7 deadly sins and when taken to extremes, will

Comparing Genesis Creation And The Norse Culture
Although a lot of other cosmogonic myths have presented creations as part of a natural process that
has the clear understanding that it is an act of divine and creative will. We all know there are
several creation myths across different cultures. It is known that every different culture even has its
unique creation myththat also explains how life and world came to be (Leonard McClure, 2004).
The two myths I would talk about when it comes to this topic are Genesis creation (Hebrew origin)
of the Christian culture, and the Norse culture of Iceland (the Vikings). From the readings of both,
both myths also start with an emptiness where conflict and chaos may even eventually develop.
The Genesis conflict is between God, loneliness, blackness, emptiness, and the need to create...

There was a misleading image of the Vikings that made them be known as pagans with a hatred

afterlife. The show focuses on two brothers, Wirt and Greg. Unaware of their true plight, Wirt
and Greg navigate their way through unfamiliar territory in search of a way home, and meet
other unusual characters along the way. The show resembles Dante s own trip to the afterlife in
many ways. Over the Garden Wall alludes to Dante s Commedia through its settings, the
characters, and the aspects that the two versions of the afterlife share, all of which implies that
the series is based loosely on Dante s travels in his Commedia. In the opening scene of the show,
Wirt and Greg are lost in a forest with no recollection of how they came to be there. This is very
similar to the first canto of Inferno, in which Dante is also lost in a dark wood . The brothers are
pursued by a monstrous dog when they first arrive, akin to how Dante is accosted by the three
beasts in Limbo shortly after appearing there. Later in the show, we come to find out the place
where Wirt and Greg have ended up is referred to as The Unknown . The Unknown is separated
into different regions, much like how the Commedia s realms have different areas, with various
trials to be overcome in each section. In the last episode of the show, it is apparent that The
Unknown is a purgatory like afterlife, and that the brothers journey to find their home has actually
been them searching for a way back the land of the living.

Analysis Of Jacob Meeting Esau And The Deaths Of Rachel...
Nestled between the heartwarming story of Jacob meeting Esau and the deaths of Rachel and Leah
lies the tragedy that is Genesis 33: Dinah and the Shechamites. With rape and sexual assault gaining
more awareness around college campuses in the United States, I thought it would be interesting to
scrutinize the Biblical scholars perspective on the rapeof Dinah. It seems everyone has a strong
opinion on how she was treated and how her brothers treated their hosts, but few appear to have
an opinion on Dinah herself. This is a result of every source at some point essentially expressing
the same sentiment: we can only assume what Dinah thought because she never uttered a word.
That said, I will both summarize what each commentary says about Dinah, as well as offer some
reflection on the commentary itself. The first commentary I read was certainly the most in depth,
technical analysis of Genesis 34. The New Interpreter s Bible (hereby referenced as NIB) paints a
compelling picture of the tale. Interestingly, this was one of the worst sources in regards to looking
at how Dinah was treated; it focused mainly on the action and reaction relationship between the
Hivites and the sons of Jacob. It did note that Dinah is the first daughter of Jacob that receives any
sort of recognition, but it also explained that the most important part of the story was Jacob s curse
upon the massacre his sins executed (NIB 576). One aspect to note is that this commentary never
posed the question of

Essay about B2B v. B2C Supply Chains
B2B v. B2C Supply Chains
Introduction In the age of technology business has come a long way and evolved tremendously.
It used to be that brick and mortar was the only way to open and run a business. However, the
internet has changed all of that now businesses can use technology to reach customers and other
businesses all over the world. This has caused a great surge in the world wide economy. In 2003
Business to Business (B2B) commerce tipped the scales at $1.41 Trillion. This is in comparison to
Business to Consumer (B2C) that was $90.1 Billion (Naraine, R.2003). All of these purchases need
to get transported and that is where businesses supply chains come in play. Contrary to popular
belief the supply chains of B2B and B2C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these are just the tip of the iceberg. B2C eCommerce now has matured and includes a
myriad of online services. These services can/ do include online banking, travel services, online
auctions, health information, real estate as well as some less reputable sites (Patton, S., 2001).
B2B vs. B2C Supply Chain The B2B and B2C supply chains might appear to be similar however,
that assumption can not be further from the truth. The main difference between the two is the
amount of channels a product must flow through before reaching the end user. With B2B there are
less total channels however they are greater in size when to compared to the greater amount of
smaller channels with B2C. (Marketing Profs, 2005) For example: A new car manufactureris
looking for tires to put on their new line of cars. They would deal directly with a tire
manufacturer to get their product. The channels would simply be from the car manufacturer tire
manufacturer raw supplies dealers. Now let s look at an individual looking to book a flight and
hotel in Las Vegas. The chain would be as follows, individual online store airline airline staff hotel
hotel staff. The next difference comes with technology and that is integration, B2B needs to be
integrated to their business partners software for smooth resupply , billing, etc. This is an

California s St. Francis Dam Collapse
Mr. Mulholland is an intelligent, sharp, and observant builder. he didn t seem to study much about
dams because the dam that he built was built on schist which water slides under. This man was
known throughout History for his confidence of how to build the dam. He seemed pretty gruff and
impatient, He seemed like he wanted to just get done with his work. Mulholland wanted to get it
done because it was a very long task, There are some answers to why Mulholland built the dam
badly. One reason is that it was probably too much on the dam. As the head of the department of
power, Mr. Mulholland faced a huge challenge which was to provide water for a rapidly grwoing
city. People really need water for getting clean. Mullholland thought he could help the people to
get get water by building a dam. He was mostly doing it for money. More water is always best
for LA County because all California has is sum most of the time, especially Southern
California. Mr. Mulholland conceived a daring plan to build the largest Dam in the world located
in San Francisquito Canyon. As the designer of the St. Francis Dam, Mr. Mulholland had to find
a well structured place to build the Dam. He needed to be very wise on where he built the dam.
Mr. Mulholland also needed to be intelligent to build the Dam. The Dam needed to be secure to
prevent the heavy water to spill out. According to Mr. Mulholland, the dam was built in San
Francisquito Canyon off of San Francisquito Rd. The Dam

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Apothecary
The Dispensary is a very useful Institution, yet it leaves many wants unprovided for. According to
the established plan of the Bristol Dispensary an Apothecary prescribes for the great majority of
the Patients, and only calls in the aid of the Physician when he deems it advisable. This practice is
contrary to the routine of the Dispensaries in London, Liverpool and other large towns, where the
Physicianprescribes for every Patient. Some benefits are probably obtained by this peculiarity, but
disadvantages are also attendant. At least a department is left void, which may be filled up with
good effect.

the Court sets forth The essence of procedural due process is fundamental fairness. This embodies

Air Pollution Of Beijing And China
Abstract:
In the past few years, the air pollution in Beijing becomes more and more serious. Frequent smog
weather cause social disordered and serious harm to the health of residents. The number of
respiratory diseases increased. Citizens live in a bad living condition. Because of the smog, we
have to stop all outdoor works and activities. It also caused great economic losses. So we must do
some thing to control the air pollution.
Keywords: air pollution, control measures, Beijing
Introduction:
As is well known and commonly accepted, Beijing, as the capital of China, is famous for its
magnificent cultural heritage around the world. However, the problem of air pollution in Beijing is
also the focus of attention.
The air pollution in Beijing has a long history. Trace back to 1966, Zhou Enlai, the most respectable
premier in China, thought Beijing was falling into the trouble of pollution, when he looked at the
smog in the Sky. Unfortunately, in the past few decades, the misgiving of Zhou has been real
that the condition of the air pollution has been getting worse, which has caused negative effect
on the cultural city. For example, the meteorological observation in 1998 showed that the weeks
of air pollution index (API) in the Beijing area which was up to Level 4 increased by 40%, from 14
weeks to 20 weeks in the whole year of 1998 (Huang Guanzheng 36). Back in the start of 2013,
PM 2.5 exceeded the detectable limit for several days (Huang Guanzheng 36). Similarly,

Dead Sea Scrolls Important To The World Today
The finding of the Dead Sea Scrolls is very important to the world today because they show
tangible evidence that God s Word is real and everlasting. They have had the greatest Biblical
impact on holy and historic events throughout history. The Dead Sea Scrolls have even been called
the greatest manuscript discovery of modern times. For these reasons, the Dead Sea Scrollsare
important to us today.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of different texts that were first discovered by a young boy
named Juma and his cousins, who were Bedouin goat herders, in 1947 in a cave at the Khirbet
Qumran in the West Bank near the Dead Sea, from which they derive their name. Then, in 1949
archaeologists searched and discovered more scrolls in ten other caves in the area. The texts are of
great historical and religious value. They include the third oldest known surviving texts of works
included in the Bible and they date back 1,000 years from the oldest known texts at that time and
are when Jesus lived. They also contain previously unknown stories about biblical figures. The
texts are written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Probably the Dead Sea Scrolls have had the
greatest Biblical impact. They have provided Old Testament manuscripts. The Dead Sea Scrolls
have demonstrated that the Old Testament was accurately transmitted during this interval. In
addition, they provide a wealth of information on the times leading up to, and during, the life of
Christ (Wood). Therefore, the Dead Sea Scrolls are important to us today.... Show more content on

The Consequences Of Mississippi Burning
Mississippi Burning is based on a real historical event that takes place in the middle the civil rights
movement in Mississippi in 1964. The story sheds light on the investigation of the disappearance of
three civil rights workers. Faced with the daunting challenge of investigating a murder case in a
town where the Ku Klux Klanenjoys a great deal of support and discrimination runs deep, the FBI
agent had to resort to unconventional methods to crack the mystery behind the disappearance of
the three men. This film shows the deep division that persisted in the south and it gives us a
glimpse of the horror that Black people had to endure. This film illustrates the struggle of black
people in their quest to equality and justice. It gives us, the students a greater sense of this dark
history of our country and serves as a reminder that we must always be cognizant of the bleak
consequences of hate and discrimination.
Mississippi Burning is a portrayal of the murder of three Civil Right Worker in Mississippi in 1964
and challenges faced by the two FBI agents to bring those murderers to justice. At night, three civil
rights workers are driving in the Mississippi backwoods when a few cars appear out of nowhere
and one of them starts bumping into the rear end of the car of the civil rights workers. The activist

As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close
fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning
a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was

Technology Is A Key Component
Introduction
As technology becomes more and more prevalent in classrooms everywhere, questions arise
regarding the benefits and drawbacks on introducing technology to students at a young age.
Technology is a key component in many of today s educational settings; however, there are
concerns as to whether technology is being used as an aid and resource or as a crutch and
whether or not technology is replacing teachers. Despite these concerns, according to Barron,
Harms, and Kalaydjian (2003) the use of technology is increasing in classrooms across America.
Teachers are using technology to perform low level tasks, but not high level tasks. This could
possibly be because many teachers are not comfortable with the skills required to integrate ... Show

They reviewed the work of Sarij Blatchford, who has identified communication and collaboration,
metacognition and creative learning that can be engaged with technology in the classroom.
However, he still expresses the importance of adult and peer support and having the appropriate
resources for use. Stephen and Plowman (2008) themselves even question the conditions necessary
for young children to have a productive and positive encounter with technology. Traditionally
children s use of technology, such as computers, was during free playtime, which was often
unproductive, so this study focused on guiding children s interaction with information and
communication technology in the classroom setting.
Mitchell and Dunbar (2006) conducted an analysis of computers used in the nursery setting and the
benefits and concerns that may occur. They reviewed the works of Corders and Miller who argue
that the introduction of the computer to nursery school is inappropriate. They suggested that it
pushed children into becoming skilled little technicians. They view freedom to play, imagine, and
enjoy the experience of the world is more essential. The preschool Curricular Guidance argued that
children should have opportunities to used a range of ICT resources which will enhance and
extend learning as well as give them opportunities to engage in self directed learning.

Enterprise Risk Management ( Erm )
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is the ability to identify, manage and/or mitigate risks that
can affect the overall business operations down to the day to day operations of an organization
(Hampton, J., 2009). The overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) entails the utilization of a
holistic model to identify risks that face an organization. ERM is not successful when it is
managed in silos. Doing so could lead to the organization not having a clear understanding of risks
and a misunderstanding of their riskappetite. There are many important components involved in
the overall ERM process. Therefore, ERM can be implemented through creating a risk aware
culture, the implementation of the Risk Focused Allocation Framework (RFRAF) and an
operations review which creates and implements a risk strategy for an organization. The overall
framework of ERM is dependent on a risk aware culture. A strong culture is one in which
decisions are made in a disciplined way, taking into account considerations of risk and reward on
an informed basis (Fraser, 2010, pg. 87). Each organization is different and the structure of how it
is run, what is important, and what is expected are all different. The definition of risk is the
potential to lose something worth value (Risk, 2014). The culture at an organization must be aware
of the risk appetite, allowing managers and other employees to make informed decisions based on
the amount of risks the organization is willing to take. Having a

The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or
receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought
up an advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take
this class were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with
a problem. He did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell
curve college classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A
students. Instead of grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an
A, and turned in their final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest,
give maximal effort, and contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough
to receive an A. The professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he
allowed them to fully focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school
biology class, but there are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher
may not feel right in allowing these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel
obligated in her heart to stay and prevent this from happening again. School is about learning
about oneself and growing as a person; school is not about earning a grade and learning biology.

of the Americans as the Americans were pushing for an invasion in northern France as early as
1942. American military leadership, however, was not sold on the logic or necessity of a North
African campaign. General George C. Marshall, the architect of American military strategy, wanted
no part of a US commitment to a Mediterranean campaign. The decision to commit American
troops in North Africa came directly from President Roosevelt, who overruled the advice of
Marshall and his military advisers on this point.
b.As the operation began, the Americans and British hoped the French would not resist the Allied
landings, and further expected French forces in North Africa would rejoin the anti Axis alliance. In
order to facilitate these hopes, the Allies designated General Dwight D. Eisenhower to command
the invasion forces. With an American general leading the forces, the Allies sought to restrict any
resistance from Anglophobic French officials and officers in the areas around the invasion beaches
and ports. Despite such measures, however, the French did put up some level of resistance at nearly
every landing point. Nonetheless, dissension among the various French factions in North Africa
limited the cohesiveness and effectiveness of the opposition. Ultimately, the magnitude and rapidity

Guns Germs And Steel Discussion Questions
1.Yali s question is Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to
New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? In a broader sense, why did some
things progress in some areas, but not in others?
2.The first consideration Diamond discusses is that just because something happened and that it
would have happened anyway, it does not make the act good or just. The second consideration is
that the most powerful region, in this case, western Europe, should not be the only one talked about
because ideas and practices that are now or were at that time integrated into their culture were not
necessarily developed by them, but by other culture that imported their beliefs into European
culture. The third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a growth in population because now there was no restriction on how often you could
have children, just how many you can care for. This led to a greater population density which
ultimately started civilizations.
8.One factor that contributed to the transition from hunting gathering to farming was the decline
in the availability of wild foods to gather. A second factor was an increased availability of wild
plants. A third factor was the development of technologies that food production would later depend
upon. A fourth factor was the link between the rise in population density and the rise in food
production. A fifth factor was food producers could force hunter gatherers to leave or kill them off
because of the great numbers they had.
9.One advantage the Fertile Crescent had in food production was that it had a Mediterranean
climate that was mild and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the long summers. This allows
plants to grow quickly after the dry season when the rain comes back. A second advantage was
many plants there were already very abundant and very productive. A third advantage was that it
had a lot of hermaphrodite plants that would almost always pollinate themselves and occasionally
cross pollinate which allowed a little more variety. A fourth advantage was that the area had
different levels of elevation which allowed a variety of plants to grow in a small

Fenway Park Essays
Some things on this earth are just magical. To some it may be the beach at sunset, to others it
may be as simple as the drive to work in the morning. For me that place is Fenway Park in Boston
Massachusetts. Going to a game in Fenway is a smorgasbord of delightful feelings. Even the
walk up to the ballpark is some thing to behold. Walking with hundreds of passionate fans, all
decked out in their red sox T shirts, jerseys, and of coarse that iconic navy hat with the red B on it.
I feel like I belong there with this organized group of strangers. There is such a since of family as I
see people from the T car I was on and chatted with. A few hundred yards ahead I could hear a Lets
Go Red Sox chant as people around me began to join in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I look down a gated alley that reads players and coaches only and I think If I was just there
twenty minutes earlier I would have gotten a glimpse or even a word in with one of my favorite
players. As I drift back in to reality I see several long lines at gate A this was unusual but my
spirits were to high to be broken. As I slide into what looks like the shortest line my Uncle Geno
grabs me and says, let s go so my dad and I follow him. I was curious where we could be going
and I really didn t want to have to step out of line but I knew geno had something up his sleeve
for us. Geno leads us around the perimeter of the park and to gate D. There was almost no line at
this gate so we slide in easily. Geno had done it again, always the go to guy on street knowledge
and somehow he knew everyone. When we make our way past countless vendor to the tunnel the
crowd roars. As I step through the tunnel into the light the glare of the setting July sun hits me.
When my eyes finally readjust to the light I look around and almost have trouble with my depth
perception because of how big and crowded Fenway is. As we begin our treck to our seats we
pass countless passionate fans I look to the scoreboard, the giant Budweiser neon sign, and to the
enormous coke bottle and marvel at their size. Then

Air and TГ©nГ©rГ© Natural Reserves was included in the World Heritage list because it had fit
into three of the criteria points for the natural criteria. These include criterion X (10), IX (9), and
VII (7).
To begin with, criterion x (10) states that the area has to have important and natural habitats for
conservation of biodiversity and it may contain threatened species with value of science and
conservation. The Air Tenere Natural Reserves successfully demonstrates this, as in its
environment, there are three species of the antelope of the Sahara Desert on IUCN s Red List of
threatened species, which are the Dorcas Gazelle, Leptocere gazelle and the Addax. About one
sixth of the Reserve is benefited from the statute of sanctuary for the protection of the Addax.
Many species have been identified in the reserve, including 40 species of mammals, 18 species
of reptiles, 165 species of birds, and one amphibian species. This shows the vast biodiversity in
this area. As for flora, there are species of, Acacia raddiana, Balanites aegyptiaca and Maerua

there is a specific habitat that was developed with date palms and doum palms.

James Corden Alternate Ending
Releasing an album was exhilarating, yet she had never been more tired in her life. She was
constantly being rushed to the next interview. She had done almost twenty interviews this week,
and she still had one more to do before she was done tonight. This interview was with James
Corden, and she loved James, but she loved the fact that she would be sharing the show with One
Direction. Everyone knew that James Corden was infatuated with the four boys, so this interview
was going to be simple. She sat on the couch next to the four boys, looking out at the crowd that
was watching everyone so intently. She always felt nervous when she was about to do an interview,
performance, or whatever.

She couldn t believe how lucky she got when he asked her out. The fact that they had been dating

four settings are literary tools in which the author uses to highlight the idea of the various failures
and disappointments of the American Dream. This paper will compare and contrast the settings of
The Valley of Ashes and New York City in The Great Gatsby
. The Valley of Ashes is a wasteland
and desolate place, located between East and West Egg and New York City. The quote where
ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke (Fitzgerald 23) describes how
desolate and barren the Valley of Ashes is. The Valley of Ashes gets

One way is that at times, New York City can seem smoky like the Valley of the Ashes due to the
fog that rolls in from the coast. These two settings can also compare in relation to land size. The
Valley of Ashes and New York City also compare in the way that Tom and Gatsby both only use
the city to hide their matters from people. Tom only interacts with his mistress in the city, and
Gatsby only sees Meyer Wolfsheim there. There are although many ways that these two settings
contrast. The Valley of Ashes is dry, grey and dirty in comparison to New York City which is a
busy city with green grass and lush parks with many different types of people. The Valley of
Ashes symbolizes the plight of the poor, and the individuals who live among the dirty ashes lose
their spirit as a result. New York City on the other hand, exudes hopes, dreams, and an atmosphere
of wild parties and indulgences.
In conclusion, The Great Gatsby features settings that perfectly captures character, mood,
atmosphere, and emotions. The Valley of the Ashes is represented as the moral and social decay of
America, and New York City is the uninhibited immoral quest for money and

Analysis Of The Painting Two Women Of The Woods By Vincent...
On November 2013, at an auction in New York City, the painting Two women in the woods by
Vincent Van Gogh, a famous Dutch artist in expressionism and impressionism, was sold at the
price of $689,000 (Lot: 17 VINCENT VAN GOGH, 2013; Van Gogh, 2008). Besides, Silent
Majority , a painting by Banksy, an English graffitiartist, was brought to the auction in Paris and its
recent price has reached ВЈ445,792, which is roughly at $676,000 (Banksy, 2014; Banksy s Silent
Majority fetches more than ВЈ445k in Paris, 2015). As they are clearly seen, the prices for the two
paintings are about the same, which is interesting because one is obviously a well known artist
all over the world, whereas the other one is known for his graffiti paintings, which is also
considered to be an act of vandalism all along the walls in England. Therefore, what graffiti
actually is and why there are two different perspectives on the characteristics of graffiti is a cute
issue. This essay will oppose the idea that graffiti is vandalism by demonstrating two main
points. First, graffiti is a type of art, and last but not least, graffiti can help develop the economic
as well as the job opportunities for lower income class. Graffiti is more and more widely known
and considered art. First of all, what is the definition of art? Aristotle (300s B.C.E), a famous
Greek philosopher, acknowledged that art is the realization in external form of a true idea, and is
traced back to that natural love of imitation, which

Coca, the raw form of cocaine was even used in the original form of Coca Cola. Coca, or
otherwise known as the raw form of cocaine has been cultivated for over the last 3,500 years, yet
only was it made illegal in 1914 in the United States. Cocaine is a well known drug that is easily
addictive and has detrimental effects on the body, when used incorrectly. The estimated value of the
cocainemarket was valued at $360 million and Colombiais the largest producer of the crop

Colombia is currently working with other countries such as America to try to diminish the drugs
presence and popularity, through international laws. Colombia made the possession of one gram
of cocaine legal for personal use, but sale and production was made illegal in 1994 in attempt to
diminish the trade with America (Marulanda). After Escobar, FARC emerged, Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia people s army, which is a guerrilla group fighting Colombia s
government. Colombia is currently attempting to make peace with FARC, which includes the
problems of trafficking and production of drugs. The Colombian government is also trying to
stop farmers from growing cocaine by offering farm owners money and the materials needed to
grow other crops besides cocaine (Marulanda). America is pushing for the Colombian government
to stop the growth and production of cocaine. America is the largest consumer of cocaine in the
world, and Colombia is the largest producer of cocaine in the world. According to the drug
administration in the United States, 92 percent of all cocaine that came to America was from
Colombia in 2016 (Nacional). Even years after Escobar s death, Colombia still has a monopoly over
the American cocaine market, much to the disdain of the American

The Cosmological Argument On The Existence Of God
Theories have arisen from many different philosophers trying to explain the existence of God; the
Cosmological Argument is one such theory. The Cosmological Argument has been changed and
reviewed for years; however, the focus has always stayed the same. The universe is a prime
example that there is a God. A simple Cosmological argumentstates that:
Everything that exists has a cause of its existence. The universe exists.
Therefore,
The universe has a cause of its existence. If the universe has a cause of its existence, then that cause
is God.
Therefore,
God exists (NA, 2008).
In my opinion, this argument has very basic and broad statements that may be difficult or
impossible to be proven false. Everything that exists has a cause of its existence and The universe
exists are two statements that can be difficult to prove incorrect. We know that nothing is made
without a reason behind it, and nothing is made without a process leading up to its creation. The
universe exists cannot be proven false without some very abstract thinking involved. We know
that the universe exists because you and I exist, everything around us exists, and the world on
which we live and the universe in which we live exist. We can conclude that the universe has a
cause of its existence because we can prove that the universe exists by stating that humans and
objects around us exist. In my opinion, we can can also conclude that everything in the universe
has a cause as to why it was created

While most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep, school age children should average 10 to 11 hours a night. For individuals who are not getting enough sleep, there are a variety of tips that have been shown to help. Reasons for Sleep Sleep is extremely important for numerous reasons. First of all, sleep provides the body with necessary time to rest and repair damaged muscles and cells. • 3. Les Miserables And The Power Of One Comparison In the movie Les Miserables, directed by Billie August and the movie The Power of One, directed by John Avildsen, two different characters show many magnanimous characteristics. In these two different movies, as society throws these characters obstacles, they manage to be tenacious, protective, peaceful, ambitious, and active. In Les Miserables, the character Jean Valjeanis illustrated as honorable through his protectiveness, peacefulness, and being tenacious. For example, Jean shows his protectiveness. He promises to protect the daughter, Cosette, of a woman he loved. Jean and Cosette escape to Paris. Years later, Cosette finds out something suspicious with Jean: Cosette, you re right, I m not a father. I just want to protect you, that s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, PK shows his ambitiousness when he goes to Gideon s town. PK wants to teach the Africans English so they can teach their children English. He goes to talk to his professor: You taught us that inclusion not exclusion is the key to survival, sir. How will [the Zulu] ever be included if they can t read or write English? (Avildsen 11). PK shows his trait of ambition when he asks: How will [the Zulu] ever be included if they can t read or write English? . PK has the strong desire to teach the Africans English so they can be treated fairly. Soon after, PK shows the trait of activeness. PK s professor gives him the okay to start the African school. PK is so excited, he goes to tell Maria: [Gideon] asked us to start a school. The headmaster gave us the permission to use the study room. We re starting tomorrow night! Will you join us? (Avildsen 13). PK s activeness in the African s lives is shown when he says: We re starting tomorrow night! . PK is obviously very excited to start the school, displaying his magnanimous character trait, activeness. PK s final character trait is being tenacious, similar to Jean. The officials in South Africa do not like when whites and blacks do activities together. PK teaching the Africans English caused many issues with the officials. One day, the officials burst into the room PK was teaching in, and a fight broke out between the officials and the Africans. Maria was struck by an official and died: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... I had no more will to fight... I had to leave for Oxford tomorrow (Avildsen 17). Similar to Jean, PK holds tightly onto Maria s love she gave him and he is upset: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... . PK shows the trait of being tenacious when he says I had no more will to fight... . In all, PK is characterized as determined by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Athens And Pericles Athens was a major civilization located in ancient Greece. Athens was located on the ocean, which led to it becoming a prominent trading center. The state was extremely wealthy with an extraordinary, capable naval force. Women had no rights at all in Athens, so every one of the choices were made by the men. The men of Athens had numerous obligations that they were required to perform for society to run legitimately. Above all, they needed to take in every one of the qualities by which their society taught them. Pericles believed that democracyexemplified a governmental system that gave every citizen the right to vote, Xenophon opposes Pericles ideas and proclaims that the worst of people may negatively affect the government, causing... Our public men have, besides politics, their private affairs to attend to, and our ordinary citizens, though occupied . . . are still fair judges of public matters . . . instead of looking on discussion as a stumbling block in the way of action, we think it an indispensable preliminary to any wise action at all. Xenophon, an ancient Greek writer, completely opposed the beliefs of Pericles. He explained the various issues that arose in a democratic society. Xenophon resisted the idea that any person, no matter his credibility, was given the same amount of power in the government system. Then there is a point which some find extraordinary, that they everywhere assign more to the worst persons, to the poor, and to the popular types than to the good men: in this very point they will be found manifestly preserving their democracy. In this quotation, Xenophon refers to the fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Three Sovereigns For Sarah The movie Three Sovereigns for Sarah is about a terrified town that is struck by the devils witchcraft and takes extraordinarily inhuman actions to rid themselves of the bad fortune. The story is told by an old woman who was accused of being a witch, but luckily lives long enough to confront her accusers. Three Sovereigns for Sarah has many contributing factors as to why witchcraftwas believed and used as a genuine reason to murder citizens of the thirteen colonies such factors that lead to these absurd and ridiculous decisions and actions are likely to be based off the early sexist concepts of gender roles that took place in the colonies, the strong pull to uniform religious beliefs, and a superstition that terrified people into an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The religious beliefs of these days and ages were extremely strict, controlling, and very similar. The priest in this movie was very influential, he was the sole reason for the belief in the witchcraft that took over this town. Few males in charge made the decision to hang the Salem witches, but essentially the priest made the overall decision. He fed stories to the other females and males about their witchcraft and how the devils work had been done. It is believed that the priest did this so he could control the land and money that was possessed by the women he wrongfully accused and murdered. The early Colonists practiced Puritan religion. This religion consisted of believing that God had formed an agreement with the Colonists. They claimed that they were higher than all others and God made that known to them. They claimed that God wanted them to set a better example for all the British people who were going to be damned to hell for all the sins and filth they had done. This prompted the Colonists to live a very disciplined, unsatisfactory, and dull life. A definite theory on why the Salem Witchcraft was so strongly believed involved how powerful gender roles were. Although it is claimed in the Puritan ways that women were to be treated with kindness and consideration, they were to be seen very little and never heard. Wives and ... Fraizer and his friends spent most of their time in their margins also known as stomping ice in the woods . Fraizer says that marginal placeand activities are the most important kind (46) because they are where you can try out odd ideas . Margins could be visiting a park, a friend s house, a dance studio or even a football field, also doing things such as swinging on a tire, reading, watching movies, dancing or playing a sport. As they told themselves a frequent activity was exploring and the reader understand this was marginal when he mentions they were all easily distracted from their exploration with the sight of the perfect ice to stomp on. Fraizer explains these distractions to extend the understanding of margins and that they don t require uninterrupted focus because a person doesn t have something to accomplish, a marginal activity could result in another marginal activity that could have an outcome. I consider watching movies a marginal activity for many, people go to the theater to simply relax and get their mind off of other things. Movies let a person engulf themselves in the lives of others, fall in love all over again with a romance, laugh away all problems with a comedy, or feel a rush of adrenaline with an action movie. Films similar to these can create inspiration in people to find love, to become a director, even to become a writer to create a script that will affect people as the film affected them. Margins being without any purpose unintentionally result with a person having a purpose every purpose filled activity we pursue in the woods began as just fooling around . Through observing his kids actions when they encountered a ditch Fraizer remembers his personal experiences with margins. To Fraizer and his friends the woods played an important role in their childhoods, it acted as a place where they could let their imaginations run wild and pursue what their ... Failure to identify and manage hearing loss in adolescents can lead to impaired speech and language development, poor social skills, and educational delays. Children in developing countries typically do not receive newborn hearing screenings and they may not receive hearing screenings in school. • 13. Why Were The Colonial Days So Important The Colonial days By: Gabriella Freiberg Why were the colonial days so important? The colonial days were so important because if we didn t have these settlers come and build the colonies, we wouldn t be living here today. The 13 colonies that have made up this land are New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. There were so many things they did to get food, water, resources, and etc. They were very creative people and used lots of different inventions to live and get resources that they didn t have. One was the triangular trade route. The name was given by the route which the goods from the colonies were taken back to Europe. Europe made the things they traded for and sold them back to another territory. While the triangular trade route started in the 1500 s it really didn t start working until the mid 1600 s. Not all tribes used the triangular trade route some tribes just used their own inventions to get from place to place. They had many jobs back then to keep the places running. People Benjamin Franklin Or as most people call him by his nickname ben. He was born on January 17, 1706. Ben was a very good hearted man. • 14. Driving Cars And Its Effects On Public Roadways Throughout the past year, media outlets have reported that autonomous vehicles, or self driving cars, will become increasingly used on public roadways. By 2020, it is estimated that approximately 10 million vehicles featuring driverless capabilities will be used on roads across the globe and vehicles that are completely autonomous, with no user interaction, are expected as early as 2019. [1] By taking the human element out of driving, researchers developing driverless car technologies claim that the use of cars with autonomous capabilities can help reduce traffic problems, pollution, and significantly reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on public roadways, as more than 90 percent of traffic accidents are caused by human error. [2] Vehicles with driverless technologies that prevent the driver from accidentally swerving out of a lane and automatically brake in response to objects in the road when the driver is distracted can already be currently found on the market. Using a variety of sensors and cameras, these vehicles can detect the surrounding road conditions and steer or brake in response to other drivers, pedestrians and objects in the road to avoid collisions. During testing, researchers have also encountered situations where collisions cannot be avoided due to unpredictable events that occur too quickly for autonomous vehicles to respond in time. In these situations, crash optimization algorithms can be created to allow the vehicles to respond in a way that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Distance that Separates us from Shakespeare s... The Distance that Separates us from Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice Without a doubt, Shylock of Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice has been a subject of much controversy and debate for scholars and critics worldwide. Specifically, an element of his character that has been thoroughly reviewed is the harshness with which he proposes his bond with Antonio. As contemporary readers of the pound of flesh story we are naturally mortified by the fact that Shylock would call for such barbarous terms. What many of us do not realize is that while we might feel horror about the idea of the bond, the same is not necessarily true for an Elizabethan audience. This story has been a major source of misunderstanding for many of its readers, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dialogue between Shylock and Antonio occurs as follows: Shylock. This kindness I will show. Go with me to a notary, seal me there Your single bond, and, in a merry sport, If you repay me not on such a day, In such a place, such sum or sums as are Expressed in the condition, let the forfeit Be nominated for an equal pound Of your fair flesh to be cut off and taken In what part of your body pleaseth me. Antonio. Content, in faith. I ll seal to such a bond, And say there is much kindness in the Jew. (2.1.139 149) It is clear in Antonio s response that he finds nothing extraordinary about these terms at all. Without hesitation he accepts the conditions of the contract and even goes on to deem Shylock s proposal as kind. In the Shakespearian sense of the word, kindness even means tenderness, affection, love, or humaneness (Grebanier, 98). This should suggest to us that the idea to stake a pound of Antonio s flesh is by no means a representation of Shylock s devilishness or cruelty. The United States is being propelled into an era of medicine where the effectiveness of antibiotics is rapidly declining. In the United States, methicillin resistant S.aureus (MRSA) infections alone account for more deaths than HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis combined (Abedon). Common names that are associated with the first investigation into the phenomenon of phages are Frederick Twort, a medically trained bacteriologist from England, and Felix d Herelle, a French Canadian microbiologist. The history of phage discovery and research is so complicated that the scientific world has simply accepted referring to the discovery as the Twort d Herelle phenomenon. Twort was the first to notice and describe the characteristics of lysis associated with phage infection in 1915. However, Abedon states that it was d Herelle who identified the source of this phenomenon and coined the term bacteriophage . D Herelle was also the first to use phages therapeutically and successfully (2). Due to the limitations of the time, and the poor delivery of phages where intended, most of d Herelle s work was scrutinized throughout the scientific community. Treatments throughout the world had mixed success from the very beginning. In one trial of phage therapy in India, 1931, d Herelle observed a 90% reduction in mortality with 74 lethal outcomes in the control group and only 5 in the experimental group. However, because of the lack of reliability and other limitations that were present during the time period, phage therapy was widely dismissed by most of western medicine, especially after the introduction of pharmaceutical antibiotics in the 1940 s (Lin, Koskella and Lin). Comparing Genesis Creation And The Norse Culture Although a lot of other cosmogonic myths have presented creations as part of a natural process that has the clear understanding that it is an act of divine and creative will. We all know there are several creation myths across different cultures. It is known that every different culture even has its unique creation myththat also explains how life and world came to be (Leonard McClure, 2004). The two myths I would talk about when it comes to this topic are Genesis creation (Hebrew origin) of the Christian culture, and the Norse culture of Iceland (the Vikings). From the readings of both, both myths also start with an emptiness where conflict and chaos may even eventually develop. • 20. Analysis Of Over The Garden Wall Over the Garden Wall is a children s cartoon series with a rather dark subject: a visit to the afterlife. The show focuses on two brothers, Wirt and Greg. Unaware of their true plight, Wirt and Greg navigate their way through unfamiliar territory in search of a way home, and meet other unusual characters along the way. The show resembles Dante s own trip to the afterlife in many ways. Over the Garden Wall alludes to Dante s Commedia through its settings, the characters, and the aspects that the two versions of the afterlife share, all of which implies that the series is based loosely on Dante s travels in his Commedia. In the opening scene of the show, Wirt and Greg are lost in a forest with no recollection of how they came to be there. This is very similar to the first canto of Inferno, in which Dante is also lost in a dark wood . The brothers are pursued by a monstrous dog when they first arrive, akin to how Dante is accosted by the three beasts in Limbo shortly after appearing there. Later in the show, we come to find out the place where Wirt and Greg have ended up is referred to as The Unknown . The Unknown is separated into different regions, much like how the Commedia s realms have different areas, with various trials to be overcome in each section. In the last episode of the show, it is apparent that The Unknown is a purgatory like afterlife, and that the brothers journey to find their home has actually been them searching for a way back the land of the living. ... Nestled between the heartwarming story of Jacob meeting Esau and the deaths of Rachel and Leah lies the tragedy that is Genesis 33: Dinah and the Shechamites. With rape and sexual assault gaining more awareness around college campuses in the United States, I thought it would be interesting to scrutinize the Biblical scholars perspective on the rapeof Dinah. It seems everyone has a strong opinion on how she was treated and how her brothers treated their hosts, but few appear to have an opinion on Dinah herself. This is a result of every source at some point essentially expressing the same sentiment: we can only assume what Dinah thought because she never uttered a word. That said, I will both summarize what each commentary says about Dinah, as well as offer some reflection on the commentary itself. The first commentary I read was certainly the most in depth, technical analysis of Genesis 34. The New Interpreter s Bible (hereby referenced as NIB) paints a compelling picture of the tale. Interestingly, this was one of the worst sources in regards to looking at how Dinah was treated; it focused mainly on the action and reaction relationship between the Hivites and the sons of Jacob. It did note that Dinah is the first daughter of Jacob that receives any sort of recognition, but it also explained that the most important part of the story was Jacob s curse upon the massacre his sins executed (NIB 576). However, the internet has changed all of that now businesses can use technology to reach customers and other businesses all over the world. This has caused a great surge in the world wide economy. B2B vs. B2C Supply Chain The B2B and B2C supply chains might appear to be similar however, that assumption can not be further from the truth. The main difference between the two is the amount of channels a product must flow through before reaching the end user. With B2B there are less total channels however they are greater in size when to compared to the greater amount of smaller channels with B2C. Enterprise Risk Management ( Erm ) Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is the ability to identify, manage and/or mitigate risks that can affect the overall business operations down to the day to day operations of an organization (Hampton, J., 2009). The overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) entails the utilization of a holistic model to identify risks that face an organization. ERM is not successful when it is managed in silos. Doing so could lead to the organization not having a clear understanding of risks and a misunderstanding of their riskappetite. There are many important components involved in the overall ERM process. Therefore, ERM can be implemented through creating a risk aware culture, the implementation of the Risk Focused Allocation Framework (RFRAF) and an operations review which creates and implements a risk strategy for an organization. The overall framework of ERM is dependent on a risk aware culture. A strong culture is one in which decisions are made in a disciplined way, taking into account considerations of risk and reward on an informed basis (Fraser, 2010, pg. 87). Each organization is different and the structure of how it is run, what is important, and what is expected are all different. The definition of risk is the potential to lose something worth value (Risk, 2014). The culture at an organization must be aware of the risk appetite, allowing managers and other employees to make informed decisions based on the amount of risks the organization is willing to take. Twenty eight of her students plagiarized on a final exam. This teacher quit after the school board did not allow her to fail these twenty eight students. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought up an advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take this class were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with a problem. He did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell curve college classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A students. Instead of grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an A, and turned in their final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest, give maximal effort, and contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough to receive an A. The professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he allowed them to fully focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school biology class, but there are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher may not feel right in allowing these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel obligated in her heart to stay and prevent this from happening again. The defeat of the Allied forces in the battle put doubt into the minds of many all of whom assumed the righteous democracies of the western Allies could not be defeated in the field by the armies of Fascism. The defeat suffered by the Allies had nothing to do with right versus wrong, but was very much a product of a number of operational shortcomings on the part of the Allies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decision to invade North Africa reflected the triumph of British strategic arguments over those of the Americans as the Americans were pushing for an invasion in northern France as early as 1942. American military leadership, however, was not sold on the logic or necessity of a North African campaign. General George C. Marshall, the architect of American military strategy, wanted no part of a US commitment to a Mediterranean campaign. The decision to commit American troops in North Africa came directly from President Roosevelt, who overruled the advice of Marshall and his military advisers on this point. b.As the operation began, the Americans and British hoped the French would not resist the Allied landings, and further expected French forces in North Africa would rejoin the anti Axis alliance. In order to facilitate these hopes, the Allies designated General Dwight D. Eisenhower to command the invasion forces. With an American general leading the forces, the Allies sought to restrict any resistance from Anglophobic French officials and officers in the areas around the invasion beaches and ports. Despite such measures, however, the French did put up some level of resistance at nearly every landing point. Nonetheless, dissension among the various French factions in North Africa limited the cohesiveness and effectiveness of the opposition. Ultimately, the magnitude and rapidity of the Allied ... On November 2013, at an auction in New York City, the painting Two women in the woods by Vincent Van Gogh, a famous Dutch artist in expressionism and impressionism, was sold at the price of $689,000 (Lot: 17 VINCENT VAN GOGH, 2013; Van Gogh, 2008). Besides, Silent Majority , a painting by Banksy, an English graffitiartist, was brought to the auction in Paris and its recent price has reached ВЈ445,792, which is roughly at $676,000 (Banksy, 2014; Banksy s Silent Majority fetches more than ВЈ445k in Paris, 2015). As they are clearly seen, the prices for the two paintings are about the same, which is interesting because one is obviously a well known artist all over the world, whereas the other one is known for his graffiti paintings, which is also considered to be an act of vandalism all along the walls in England. Therefore, what graffiti actually is and why there are two different perspectives on the characteristics of graffiti is a cute issue. • 50. The Cosmological Argument On The Existence Of God Theories have arisen from many different philosophers trying to explain the existence of God; the Cosmological Argument is one such theory. The Cosmological Argument has been changed and reviewed for years; however, the focus has always stayed the same. The universe is a prime example that there is a God. A simple Cosmological argumentstates that: Everything that exists has a cause of its existence. The universe exists. Therefore, The universe has a cause of its existence. If the universe has a cause of its existence, then that cause is God. Therefore, God exists (NA, 2008). In my opinion, this argument has very basic and broad statements that may be difficult or impossible to be proven false. Everything that exists has a cause of its existence and The universe exists are two statements that can be difficult to prove incorrect. We know that nothing is made without a reason behind it, and nothing is made without a process leading up to its creation. The universe exists cannot be proven false without some very abstract thinking involved. We know that the universe exists because you and I exist, everything around us exists, and the world on which we live and the universe in which we live exist. We can conclude that the universe has a cause of its existence because we can prove that the universe exists by stating that humans and objects around us exist.
