finding a mate and the characteristics that people are drawn to in a mate. He begins
the article with a brief look at the history of mating and the theories that have
previously been proposed. In particular he addressed Charles Darwin s theory of
sexual evolution and belief in preferential mate choice. Buss proposes that there are
three components to human mating. He states that human mating is inherently
strategic... mating strategies are context dependent... [and that] men and women
have faced different mating problems over the course of human evolution and, as a
consequence, have evolved different strategies (Buss, 1994, p. 241). He uses this
theory to propose nine different hypotheses to prove that despite humans being

At the opera called Benjamin Britten s Albert Herring , I would say I was a
perceptive listener. I was this type of listener because I really tried to fully grasp the
idea of the music. I paid close attention to the different tempos and the different
volumes of the pieces that were sung. I also tried to seek an understanding of what
values were sung through the music to see if it resembled what the culture could of
been like during the time period.
The instrumentation was a symphony orchestra. These orchestra s include instruments
from the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion families, and occasionally from
the keyboard family. The orchestra that was playing during the opera did include
instruments from the keyboard family, and instruments from the families listed
above. There were times during the show where I could very easily tell what
instruments were playing, but then again on the other hand, there were times when I
had no idea. I could tell/hear when a violin was playing because I use to play the
instrument. I could also tell when the keyboard was played, and instruments from the
percussion group, because they have clear distinctive sounds that are easily
recognized.
The first piece that was performed was called .....Florence . There was a variety of
different pitches and dynamics. The purpose was to set the tone of the play. The
instruments that were playing and the singing made the tone sound intense at some

As you look back into history you see that war is created for several different
reasons. In this paper I will be reviewing the relationship between war, territory, and
arms races on a dyadic level of analysis. Scholars have come to various conclusions
on different aspects of these two theories and I will discuss and evaluate a few
different perspectives or angles of each theory to see how they help contribute to the
creation of warbetween two interstates.
When examining the relationship between territoriality and war one might find
several different approaches to the connection between the two aspects. Territoryand
war have long been related between interstate wars for a long period of time. As you
take a look at past wars and how territory has played a major role in the escalation of
conflict you will find several different angles to the situations. One angle that has
shown vital data to relationship would be territorial contiguity between interstates.
When territory are contiguous to one another from past history it shows the
interstates are more likely to have disputes with one another. You could also
breakdown the terms of contiguity into proximity, interaction, and territoriality to get
an in depth view of a matter.

Religion in the modern world is inescapable. Even if an individual does not consider
oneself to be religious they are constantly surrounded by its presence due to the
influence religion has had on society. Even though the United States proclaims in the
constitution that individuals have the freedom to practice their own religion, in many
cases the minority religions are belittled and the individuals who practice those
religions are disproportionately prosecuted. This is the case seen in the the novel
The Plague of Doves written by Louise Erdrich, when four Indian men are hung
because of their beliefs. Now this behavior in the United States is denied because it is
assumed that all americans stand by the equality of the constitution. Whereas in other
countries, such as in Latin America, there are not necessarily constitutions to openly
defile but minorities are still oppressed because of their religion. Oppression of the
indigenous peoples, because of their religious beliefs, is seen in the novel Deep
Rivers by Jose Maria Arguedas. These novels entwine religion and its oppressive
power by illustrating the individual components of oppression: the oppressors, those
being oppressed, and how opression still resonates in society.
The definition of an oppressor is a person or group that subjects others to unjust
treatment or control. In Deep Rivers the character who embodies the role of an
oppressor is the Old Man. Ernesto meets the Old Man when he and his father
travel to Cuzco. Ernesto depicts the Old Man s vast wealth and how he treats his
brother, Ernesto s father, with very little respect. This blatant lack of respect
becomes apparent when the Old man sends his relatives to sleep in the filthy
kitchen, he had had us sent to the kitchen of his house (17). Ernesto is of the opinion
that, This man could not have been more wicked or powerful than my guardian with
the eyebrows that met over his nose, who had also made me sleep in the kitchen
(17). What really conflicts Ernesto is that he knew that the covent friars prepared
gran evening receptions for [the Old Man], that the clergy greeted him in the streets

choose how that affects us. In Nathaniel Hawthorne novel he explores how people
live with their sin. The three main characters Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and
Roger Chillingworth each had one thing in common: they all had sin they had to live
with every day. Hawthorne shows that sin changed their personalities and how they
lived their lives. This can be seen by examining the lives of Hester, Dimmesdale, and
Chillingworth.
Hester Prynne is an essential character in the Scarlet Letter who embraces her sin and
turns it into something positive. She is condemned for committing adultery and for
