Essays On Domestic Violence
Writing an essay on the topic of domestic violence is a challenging endeavor that requires a
sensitive approach and a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. The difficulty lies
not only in conducting thorough research to gather relevant information but also in navigating
the emotional and often distressing nature of the topic itself. Addressing the complexities of
domestic violence involves delving into the psychological, sociological, and legal aspects, which
demands a careful and nuanced analysis.
Furthermore, crafting an essay on domestic violence requires the writer to strike a balance
between raising awareness about the issue and maintaining an empathetic tone. It involves
discussing the various forms of abuse, their impact on victims, and the broader societal
implications. Analyzing the root causes, exploring prevention strategies, and assessing the
effectiveness of existing interventions add another layer of complexity to the task.
Additionally, the writer must consider the ethical responsibility associated with discussing such a
sensitive and personal topic. Ensuring that the narrative remains respectful and does not
inadvertently perpetuate harmful stereotypes or victim-blaming is a critical aspect of the writing
process.
In conclusion, writing an essay on domestic violence involves navigating through a multitude of
challenges, including emotional sensitivity, comprehensive research, and ethical considerations.
However, addressing this important issue through thoughtful and well-researched essays is
crucial for raising awareness and fostering meaningful discussions on combating domestic
violence.

Essay about A Look Inside Forgiveness
Everyone has the control within them to forgive or not to forgive someone.
Forgiveness comes down to taking responsibility for the choices we make and
doing what we believe is right. By forgiving others, authority of our own lives can
be regained by letting go of the conflicting objects from the past and moving into a
more significant direction. The world today is full of conflict and people are being
hurt every day. Conflict is seen today in politics, between countries, and between
your average everyday people. Conflicts such as those listed above are often shaping
the atmosphere we live in and shaping the person we are today. We can see that
forgivenessis a place to start when trying to resolve conflicts, but not everyone will...

It is instead a lesson to be taken in and learned from the past by looking ahead without
holding in the pain. In the case that an agreement cannot be met, there will instead be
an opportunity to learn from the past. In the Sunflower, Simon Wiesenthal was one of
the many Jews working in a concentration camp of the Holocaust (Wiesenthal 3).
Wiesenthal was one of fifty men chosen to work at a hospital for Nazi soldiers
when the work at the concentration camp was done (Wiesenthal 11). As the Jews
marched to the Nazi hospital they came across a cemetery of dead soldiers
(Wiesenthal 14). Wiesenthal envied each of the soldiers, as every one of them
was connected to the earth by a sunflower on top of their gravestones (Wiesenthal
14). He states, For me there would be no sunflower. I would be buried in a mass
grave, where corpses would be piled on top of me (Wiesenthal 14). As Wiesenthal
sat inside the hospital and listened to the dying Nazi man, he found the man soon
asking for forgiveness for the sins he had committed against the Jews (Wiesenthal
54). Wiesenthal did not grant forgiveness to the dying Nazi man as he felt he could
not speak for every Jew that had been tortured or even killed (Wiesenthal 98). Many
people often get caught up in the desire to be forgiven that they forget to think about
who can grant forgiveness before approaching them. In the instance that Wiesenthal
did not forgive the man
Preparation Buffers
Abstract
Buffer solutions were prepared and their pH measured to determine their buffering
capacity. Three buffer solutions were utilized; an undiluted buffer, a diluted buffer
solution with 10ml water and a diluted buffer solution with 18ml water. In the
undiluted buffer solution there was minimal pH change with a high of 6.78 and a low
of 6.47. In the buffer solution in which 10ml of water was added there was minimal
pH change with a high of 6.78 and a low of 6.23. In the buffer solution in which 18ml
water was added there was significant change in pH with a high of 6.1 and a low of
2.27.

Discussion and Conclusion
Table 1
There is minimal change in the pH of the buffer with a high of 6.78 and a low of
6.47. The equivalence point is approximately 6.64. This shows that as the quantity
of the buffering agent s acid (HA) and conjugate base (A ) changes, the buffering
capacity of the solution decreases. As a consequence, a buffer agent can only be
utilized up to a given point in which case it does not resist pH changes and seizes to
be a buffer solution.
Table 2
There is minimal change in the pH of the buffer with a high of 6.78 and a low of
6.23. The equivalence point is approximately 6.6. The addition of water dissociates
the buffer agent further as shown in the equation below:
HA(aq) + H2O(l) H2O+(aq) + A (aq)
HCl (aq) + H2O(l) H+(aq) + Cl (aq)
The concentration of the conjugate base and acid thus changes. The buffering
capacity of the solution decreases. As a consequence, a buffer agent can only be
utilized up to a given point in which case it does not resist pH changes and seizes to
be a buffer solution.
Table 3
There is significant change in the pH of the buffer with a high of 6.10 and a low of
2.27. The equivalence point is approximately 6.1. The addition of water

School Life And College Life Essay
An Essay on School Life and College Life
There is a great deal of difference between school life and college life. School life is
a life of restrictions and control, a life in which the student has to be accountable for
his daily work to his teachers and his guardian. But a college student, of the other
hand, enjoys much greater freedom from control and supervision; he is, to a very
large extent, the master of his own destiny. It lies with him to make it or mar it.
At school the students has to be in attendance for fixed hours every day. He has to
leave home at ten or eleven and return at four at college, however, the hours of
attendance very. Sometimes, a college student has hardly time in the morning to
gulp his food; at others, he has enough time to lounge about for a few minutes after
a leisurely meal. On some days he returns early from college; or others, it is late
evening by the time he gets back home. He has ample time at his disposal to use,
abuse, or misuse.
At school the student has to prepare his daily lessons and may be taken to task for
what he has left undone. But at college he can do his lessons daily, or not ... Show

At school, students acquire habits of discipline and regularity. They have to
practice obedience and follow instruction. But at college students are expected to
develop a sense of responsibility and personal initiative. In other words, what a
school student has to do under com pulsing is done by the college students out of
his greater sense of responsibility. Of course it has to be admitted that college life
offers greater scope to a student to go astray. It he takes himself light heartedly, he
will have to suffer. It he allows arrears of studies to accumulate he will pay the price
with failure and disgrace. Hence a studious pupil improves more rapidly at college
than at school; but a waster comes quicker to
John Irving Research Paper
His childhood of theatre brought him a love for stories with intricate plots. His
college experiences that made him question his sexually brough him into the world
of the (generally) unaccepted. John Irving and his wife have three sons, one of
which is openly gay. Irving writes about the unfortunate, the unexpected and the
unaccepted. One novel includes a bi character as well as two transgender women
(In One Person). One even has an orphan who grows up to become an abortionist
after a traumatic experience with a prostitute(Cider House Rules). Each of these
issues was, and still is, an idea that many people disagree with. I spent some of my
childhood backstage in a small town theatre. My earliest interest in storytelling came
from the theatre, and I imagined myself as an actor. But Great Expectations and other
novels by Dickens inspired me to want to write.... Show more content on

Coming to terms with it is almost harder than being accepted for it. A popular
topic among the media, the LGBT+ community is gaining more and more rights as
time goes by. About this topic, Irving says When I was a boy, I imagined having
sex with my friends mothers, with girls my own age yes, even with certain older
boys among my wrestling teammates. It turned out that I liked girls, but the
memory of my attractions to the wrong people never left me. What I m saying is
that the impulse to bisexuality was very strong; my earliest sexual experiences
more important, my earliest sexual imaginings taught me that sexual desire is
mutable. In fact, in my case at a most formative age sexual mutability was the
norm. What made me a writer was definitely a combination of what I read and what
I imagined especially, what I imagined sexually. (An exclusive essay on Amazon).
Irving doesn t want people to think this book is about his son, because it s not. He
doesn t want to forget his young self, but make experiences for others with
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Historical Cost
Accounting
1.Academicians as well as practitioners have long debated the issue of historical cost
accounting versus current value accounting.
The historical cost is the original nominal monetary value of the items purchased.
Based on the historical cost concept, it states that the amount of the assets acquired
should be recorded with the original amount paid at date of acquisition and should
include all costs necessary to get the asset in place and ready for use. Historical cost
helps to distinguish an asset s original cost from its current replacement cost, current
market cost and inflation adjusted cost as it does not generally reflect the current
market valuation. It is never adjusted for the future market or economy changes and
inflation. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one of the advantages is the historical cost can be verified. The cost of
purchases at date of acquisition is documented with contracts, invoices and
payments. It is useful in matching the changes in profits or expenses relating to the
asset purchased, as well as determining the past opportunity costs. With historical
cost accounting, managers have the resources to forecast the future operational
costs. On the other hand, FASB has decided to use the historical cost principle
because it is reliable and objective. It is also easy to use and understand. The
disadvantages of historical cost accounting include that it does not evaluate the
current market value. It does not really tell the financial users how much the assets
are currently worth. Furthermore, historical cost accounting does not record the
opportunity cost of using the old assets. It does not record the loss in real value of
assets as a result of inflation or the gain in real value of assets as a result of deflation.
It is claimed that it is not useful for financial information users to compare the
corporate s performance over time. Lastly, the financial information in historical cost
concept presents an old interest rate and outdated
Murray Darling Basin Analysis
Murray Darling Basin
The Murray Darling Basin is a river catchment located in Victoria, Queensland and
New South Wales. It is one of the most iconic basins in Australia. Today we will be
talking about the history of the basin and the people who live there.
Over 2 million people live in the Basin but, people who live outside the Basin still
heavily rely on the water from it, so over a total of 3.3 million people need water
from the Basin. The basin also supplies food for these aboriginal people, like the
native fish in the area for all of the nations. There are 45 aboriginal nations in the
basin, compared to Australia having over 500 nations.
It hasn t always been aboriginals living in the basin, European settlers have used the

Im Proud To Be Puerto Rican Essay
Are you Puerto Rican or American? Hesitantly, I don t know what to say when
people ask me this question because I feel that I have to choose between the two
ethnicities. Since I was born in the U.S., I am considered American. But, if I say I am
American, I am asked about my origins. Thus, controversy evolves around inhabitants
of Puerto Ricobecause they are considered Americans since Puerto Rico is a
commonwealth of the United States.
My skin is white, my eyes are brown, and my hair is dark brown. I am confused with
Europeans, such as Italians, Portuguese, or Spanish. As early as the sixth grade, I
experienced prejudice indirectly. I grew up in a predominately white neighborhood
where I consistently heard racist thoughts about Latinos. ... Show more content on

While they talked about Latinos, I kept quiet; I didn t want them to think of me
negatively. This experience lasted throughout the school year. When I returned to
school after the summer break, half of my classmates were Latinos.
The Latinos in my class differed in the way that they were proud to say they were
Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Dominican. Thus, I pursued a relationship with these
classmates and I began to feel differently about Latinos. I realized that I was taking
part in the prejudice thoughts my previous classmates had toward Latinos by
concealing my identity. I also recognized that Latinos were struggling to pursue a
better life and that we are looked down upon. As a result of discrimination, it is
difficult for us to accomplish our goals in life. Presently, every opportunity I get, I
talk about my culture. I discuss the hardships Latinos face and I describe my
experience growing up Puerto Rican. Although I am Puerto Rican, I don t know as
much about my culture as I should. Reading Harvest of Empire: A History of
Latinos in America by Juan Gonzalez has brought new insights to my knowledge of
Puerto Ricans and Latinos in general. Gonzalez focuses on language and writes that
speaking Spanish is treated as a handicap instead of as an asset.
Gonzalez gives us a brief history of Puerto Rico. He writes about the changes of the
official language, which was English in the past and has changed to Spanish.
Ender s Game Sadism
Sadistic personality disorder, also known as sadism, is a condition in which
someone enjoys seeing someone or something suffer. Although it is no longer
considered as a valid diagnostic category in the current revision or the Diagnostic
and Statistical 4th Edition (DSM IV), it is still approached as a personality
disorder. To this day there is no single known cause to this personality disorder,
although there are many theories. For some, it is caused by abuse early in their life
for others it is caused by brain abnormalities and chemical imbalances. For some
there is nothing in their medical or personal histories that would cause future
personality disorders. These behaviors typically appear during adolescence and get

How Is Ethos Used In Letter From Birmingham Jail
In the Letter from Birmingham Jail , by Martin Luther King Jr., the central idea is
that he strongly believes in nonviolent protests and to explain to the clergymen why
he is in the Birmingham Jail. King gets his point through by using the rhetorical
devices pathos, ethos and repetition. The letter defends the idea of a nonviolent
protest for all of the african americans in Birmingham, Alabama. King writes
WHILE confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent
statement calling our present activities unwise and untimely. Seldom, if ever do I

The Battle Of Poitiers During The Hundred Year War
The next major battle that occurred during the Hundred Year War was the Battle of
Poitiers. The Battle of Poitiers was a battle that occurred after a six year break
from war, warfare broke out again as Edward III s son, Edward the Black Prince
had attacked France in 1356. The French had a line of defense, however Edward
was able to break through the defenses and attacked the French head on. The
current king of France was King John II. Edward the Black Prince was able to
cause a disastrous battle in France and the result of the battle was that Edward the
Black Prince was able to capture King John II (Jean II) as well as almost 2,000
aristocracy members of France. Edward the Black Prince wanted a ransom. France
was at a loss without their king and did not know what to do so they signed the
Treaty of Bretigny in 1360 that states that they would cede a large amount of
northern territory and the shoreline to England. In exchange for this deal, Edward
the Black Prince was required to give up his claim to the throne. After the loss of
the two great generals of England, Edward III and Edward the Black Prince, the
French regained control of most parts of France and in 1389 the two sides signed a
true as well as extended the treaty in 1396 for 28 years. In 1964, The Battle of
Auray was the battle where the English forces under John Chandos besieged Auray
and the leader of the French army, Bertrand du Guesclin, was captured. During this
time, the French King known as King Jean II died
Solar System Project
There are many differences among our planets and moons in our Solar System. The
geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic field, and atmosphere are
all factors that help give these planets and moons there identity. We have sent probes
over the years to help examine these properties.
For example, the Mariner 2 flew past Venus in 1962 and we were able to gain
information that Venus has extremely hot temperatures. Another example is Mariner
9 in 1971. This mission was the first to successful complete a full orbit around Mars
and allowed to snap a picture at one of the largest Volcanoes in the Solar System.

This launch will be designated to fly into the Sun s atmosphere for the first time
ever in history. The goal of this mission is to understand how the corona of the Sun

Earth. There has been a great formation of probe missions over the years. The range
of technology that has advanced is astonishing to believe that in a couple of years we
will have readable equipment to enter into the Sun.
I think there are definite benefits to our world by studying other worlds. There are
many similarities to other planets in the Solar System to Earth. We are able to study
these planets and understand better why certain physical changes happen. For
example, why the atmosphere on Mars is thin or why the atmosphere on Venus is
not able to secure anything living. We are able to study these differences and
overall, we are able to understand the planet we live on better. Also, by studying

My First Day Of My Sophomore Year Of High School
My first day of my sophomore year of high school starts today. Riverview High

We have been informed that we will be in the group that gets to perform at the

The Letter stated that we were going to the Presidential Inaugural Parade. We are
performing in front of President Reagan LIVE! Theresa and I already have room

latest tunes. I m finally going to be considered old enough to take care of myself,
which means I can date! Unfortunately, I still have a curfew around 10 or 10:30 on

Comparing Ancient India And China
Ancient India and China
The ancient civilizations of India and China were possibly the most advanced of their
time. Both countries had much to offer in that time including new technology,
governments, religions, and items to trade. The two countries have and had had
many similarities and contrasts.
The geography of ancient India was a little different than what is to this day. The
Himalayan mountains are located in the Northern part of India and the Hindu Kush
are located in the North West. Three bodies of water surround southern India, the
Arabian sea is to the south west, the Indian ocean on the southern side, and The Bay
of Bengal to the southeast. India was extended more to the Northwest and west, in
ancient times. Jungles, forests, and mountains are great examples of the geography of
India. The Himalayan mountains still lay to the north. The Himalayan mountains
were great to the development of India s early civilizations. They provided a great
deal of protection from military invasions. In the east and west other mountains also
provided the same protection. Ancient India had some of the most extreme climatic
and geographical features.
China is located on the the continent of Asia. The civilizations began to form
around the Yellow River in 2000 BCE. China s culture is still the same but three
other civilizations have gone away or been taken over. The southern region of ancient
China was wet and tropical, the northwestern part of China was desert. In the very far

Invisibility In Claudia Rankine s American Lyric
In the American Lyric, Citizen, Claudia Rankine demonstrates the struggles one faces
with invisibility through emotional, physical, and social interactions. Being
emotionally invisible is strongly present while a woman is fighting to make herself
and her son noticed. The woman in the subway is not harming anyone. As she
Innocently waits for the train to come with her son, a man knocked over her son in
the subway (17). Fortunately, the son was okay, however, the audacity to push the
innocent boy into the tracks is what matters. When the man pushes the son into the
tracks, it shows that he is committing a hate crime. Out of all the families waiting for
the train, he deliberately chooses to throw the innocent black boy. Pushing the black
boy reflects on the boy losing his innocence about what the future holds for him.
Since the boy s feet were not brushed off by the person that has never seen him (17).
It foreshadows the reality that getting emotional support is hard to seek for. It is

Master Harold and the Boys by Athol Fugard
In a play, rituals are a series of actions performed by people in a normal situation;
thus, the performers undergo a change from ordinary performers into a community of
participants. To ensure that the drama reflects a real ritual, characters must abandon
their normalcies and assume different roles. In Master Harold ... and the boys and
Endgameby Athol Fugard and Samuel Beckett, respectively, relationships are
developed for mutual gain; they promote personal welfare, satisfaction, and gain. The
ritualistic method by which the characters converse reveals the absurdity and
necessity of relationships.
In Master Harold ... and the boys, Sam and Willie, two black waiters who work for
Hally s mother at a tea shop in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, practice for the
ballroom dancing competition and the performance of it, which represents a world
without collisions . Sam and Willie see dancing as a way to get away from [their]
lives, the oppression, and the past , to escape societal boundaries without any
hindrances bad relationships, oppression, and other societal vices that keep
individuals from freedom. The dancing signifies the search for happiness and hope,
despite hate. Sam suggests trying to learn to dance like champions, not beginners .
Hally develops the idea of dancing into a political debate and views dancing as a
way of releasing primitive notions . His interpretation of dancing demonstrates his
incapability to see beyond what he s been taught. The mild banter between
Taking a Look at Different Spiritual Disciplines
Spiritual Disciplines
In my given faith exposure to the Spiritual Disciplines was rather limited; there was
fasting that we did during Lent, and prayer that was for a lack of a better term,
scripted. Intercessory prayers were made mostly to the venerated saints instead of
directly to Jesus Christ. In fact, two of the most common intercessory prayers I said
to the saints were to St. Jude, the Patron Saint of Hopelessness and St. Michael, the
Archangel, who is the Patron Saint and protector of those in public safety. For many
years it was understood that if you needed something in prayer, you prayed to the
appropriate saint in ritualistic prayer. As I mentioned fasting was associated with
Lent and during the Lenten season your fast was to give up something you were
attached to and of course meat on Fridays. Once Lent was over so was your fasting.
Even worship is termed differently and is more commonly known as duty or Liturgy
( Liturgy definition, n.d., para. 1). Unfortunately, this sense of duty removes the
sense of worship that involves our whole being (Foster, 1998, p. 169). When worship
is turned into duty instead of something you freely want to do, it is no wonder that
people turn away from corporate worship.
Certainly, I knew of these disciplines but their purpose was never really understood
and truly, I never knew they were disciplines. To my relief it was discovered that my
generation and many others were left in ignorance of the most simple and practical

Persuasive Essay On Cosmetology
Cosmetologists have to strive to make clients happy by giving them their wanted
look, making sure the client feels like it s their go to salon. Prices range from $40
per hour to $26,400 a year. The prices will rise depending on what style the
customer wants. For better customer service, one would need to work in a clean
environment, in a safe neighborhood where clients can come and have a satisfying
time. To get the job they will need to be licensed by the state, a high school
diploma, and enrolled in a cosmetology school. A student enrolled in these schools
can apply for federal and state financial aid. Federal and state grant programs are
offered to eligible students and must be 16 years of age. The highest paid earned

Strategy Development
Objective
In the survey that we did, we found out that most of the people think Mini Cooper
as a car of fun. The problem is that generally Mini is associated with young people.
We want to change that point of view. It is a kind of stereotyping when someone
says Mini is a young people s car and it is for fun. That s why our goal to be
accomplished with this program is to attract new customers regardless of their age
range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini brand. We
want to increase awareness because we want our potential new customers to be
aware of what the company and product stands for. Once we accomplish to attract
their awareness and reposition the brand, we want them to have the perception,
which we tried to accomplish, of what our brand is. Our communication objective
is therefore perception. We want Mini to be perceived as a car that can be driven by
anyone from any age range and not a car for only young people to use.
Target Audience
In this section, we will analyze the target audience of Mini Cooper and will try to
picture characteristics of its target market.
Financial crises have hit the world economics quite negatively and passenger s car
segment has been influenced to a great extent. Sales have dropped for more than
double and needs of customers have been directed towards motorcycle markets. Yet,
as mentioned in the Annual Report of the company in 2010, they
Marketing Plan For Woody Point Festival
Introduction
Over the last several years the Writers at Woody Point Festival has expanded.
Discussions from the board of directors meeting held in the last week of January
2011 highlighted the need, in light of this expansion, to develop a marketing plan that
can guide the event for the next three to five years. The festival could provide long
term economic sustainability for Woody Point and the other nearby communities.
With this in mind this report will propose a marketing plan and propose marketing
communications recommendations.
Background
Since its first event in 2004 the Woody Point Festival has offered authors and fans
an opportunity to fully experience the art of the written word. Daily attendance to
the festival has been estimated at 150 to 200 visitors. The festival draws in visitors
from the local area, provincial area, and out of province tourism.
In recent years the growth of the festival s attendance has created a problem for
many visitors in their ability to find lodging. Resulting in many having to stay in
motels and/or bed and breakfasts as far as 60 kilometres away. Readings and musical
events sell out within hours after tickets go on sale. Additional readings have been
added, but the demand still exceeds the supply.
As the market changes over time it is critical to ensure updating offering as changes
occur to properly adjust course offering to meet the needs of the students as time
passes. With this goal in mind this proposal has developed will
Understanding Multiple Sclerosis Essay
Introduction
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that majorly affects the brainand the
spinal cord (A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia, 1). The disease affects the central
nervous system and thus causes limitations of individuals to carry out various
activities. In multiple sclerosis, the myelin sheath that covers nerve cell axon is
destroyed causing inflammation (MediResource Inc., 1). Destructionof the membrane
leads to slowed conveyance of signals from the spinal cord to the brain, which as a
result leads to reduced response to different stimuli. Inflammation of the nerve occurs
mostly when the immune cells from the body attack the nervous system. The
inflammation is not only limited to the spinal cord, but sometimes extends to ... Show

According to data from multiple sclerosis foundation, it is estimated that if any of the
parents have thedisease the probability of one of their child getting the disease is
about 5 % (Healthline 4). Scientists have the belief that the persons that are attacked
by the diseases are born with a particular gene that is susceptible some unspecified
environmental agents. Due to these genes, there is an immune response that is
triggered whenever these individuals come into contact with the unspecified
environmental agents.
Environment, within which an individual lives, is also believed to contribute to the
contracting of multiple sclerosis. In countries that are located far away from the
equator there are higher chances of individuals suffering from this disease. This
observation has been made by epidemiologists who believe that limited amount of
vitamin D would be the cause (Healthline 5). People who live further from the
equator have less exposure to sunlight, which is believed to be a natural source of
vitamin D; and it is known to play part in functioning of the immune system. Since
multiple sclerosis is linked to immune system, lack of adequate vitamins D would
contribute to the prevalence of the disease in these places far from the equator.
The other majorcause of multiple sclerosis is infections, which may be attributed to
spread of bacteria or viruses. Inflammation in the nervous system is caused by
viruses, which are believed to be
Staphylococcus Pneumonia Essay

Streptococcus pneumonia Streptococcus pneumonia is a pathogen with a niche in the
upper respiratory tract of the human that has a two component signaling system. The
two component signaling system has CPS accumulate extracellular to the cell, CPS
eventually binding to the comD receptor, which stimulates auto phosphorylation of
comE, the response regulator(1). This is a strictly fermenting microbe that tolerates
oxygen s presence, also known as an aerotolerant pathogen (3). This microbe
ferments glucose, a sugar, into lactic acid, in the lactic acid fermentation cycle. It
also can ferment other sugars like sucrose or fructose. 20% of the strains that are
clinical samples only grow anaerobically (3). When placed in the proper multifaceted
medium S. pneumonia can replicate in 20 30 minutes. Since there are some many

An Exploration of British Injustice in Shooting an...
. By the type of language and the choice of words that the author used to write his
essay, it is very likely that it was written for the British people, to make them aware
of the injustice and cruelty of Imperialism in the colonies. The author s aim is to
make the reader feel disturbed and uneasy by describing in detail his negative
experiences in India. This rhetorical analysis explores the success of the author in
portraying the negative impact that Imperialism had on those being governed under
it, but also on the impact on those in power. The way Orwell used the words for
describing the scene of shooting the elephant, his aim was to get the reader s mind to
understand the injustice of Britain s rule over the natives. While Shooting an... Show

With the use of the words white man and tyrant, it is obvious Orwell was referring
to one of the sides of Imperialism, the side that has the power. They are becoming
the puppets of the natives: A sahib has got to act like a sahib (Orwell, 410). With
the use of this phrase Orwell uses the word sahib as a symbol of tyrant or master.
This phrase shows not only how the people oppressed by the Imperialism suffer,
but the tyrant itself by giving up his freedom. Through the way Orwell arrange this
paragraph the audience can now truly understand Orwell s argument about how
Imperialism has negative effects on those in the power, and how ironically it is
for Orwell to gain power and dominance over others, just to lose freedom and
dominance over yourself. Through the essay, with the use of particular emotional
words and sentences, the audience can perceive Orwell s feelings and emotions, by
the memorable amount of pathos over his essay. Orwell goes on describing the
cruel reality the Burmese people lived in by describing, with the use of dramatic and
lively words, the terrible situations, and consequences of Imperialism. Giving more
reasons for his logos, Orwell at the same time uses pathos to emotionally involve
Psychological Perspectives On Mental Health Disorders
According to the world heath organisation (2010) health is a state of complete
physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity . When looking at the aspect of health most people will mention
characteristics of physical health yet fail to include mental health. Psychological
perspectives are the different ways in which psychologists look at individual s
behaviours, thoughts and feelings. Although some of the psychological perspectives
are very different while others are similar and seem to overlap, it is important to
note that there isn t simply one correct perspective and that each of the perspectives
has their strengths and weaknesses. In this essay I am going to look into the
different psychological perspectives and how they offer us an understanding on
behaviours that have an influence over our health I will however be primarily be
focusing on mental health disorders. Although psychological perspectives may help
us get an understanding of behaviours or show us ways that psychological
perspective has helped create solutions that may ease symptoms, it wont fully explain
them. The description given by the World Health Organisation is the most frequently
used when trying to give an accurate description on health however it still contains
some faults and receives criticism from some. Some question whether according to
this description if it possible to be truly healthy (Warwick Booth, Cross Lowcock,
2012). Both psychological
An Essay About Edm
A New Type Of Music EDM EDM is a real music. Since 1980, electronic music first
appeared in nightclub, and soon became popular. It also being highly accepted in
nowadays society. Furthermore, EDM had been widely used in many singer

song let me love you , which made by both DJ Snake and Jutin Bieber. EDM is not
just a club music. However, cause the electronic music doesn t involve any

As a popular music in nowadays, EDM doesn t involve any instrument in it. In
people s common sense, musics are all create with instruments, can EDM also

created, and defined as instrument. Let s say instrument is a thing which give
people beats and complete the song. As well as electronic device also can give
people beats and complete songs, electronic dance music can also be a music. I
had read a article about whether EDM can be a genre music. In this article, author
mentioned a important idea that who or which group of people can decided the
genre of music. In my opinion, no one can decided it. Music is a thing about
emotion, everyone have different emotion. We can t say somebody s emotion is
wrong. The things is, when we heard a song, a group of people may have the same
felling about it, they may like it and become fans, they may not like it, then just skip
it and find another song they like. We have no right to deny someone s
The Impact Of Race On The Gender Wage Gap And Women
Overall
Equality of wages in America is of high concern and has been for a long period of
time. On no account of America s history, have women and men s wages ever been
equal, rather they have always had a significant gap between them. This has seen
women as undervalued, causing a lot of discrimination and hardship in the
workplace for women. Especially for women of color the wage gap is even larger.
The pay gap in America affects women of all ages, races, and education levels but
what can they do to close it?
What is the impact on race on the gender wage gap and women overall is a topic
everyone should be informed. I chose this question because one i m a young woman

It refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of people based on gender. Many
people will agree because there s a lot going on about double standards. Since the
1920 s women have been put after men. Now in modern times, the realization that
men and women can produce the same results, have the same education, and have the
same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is becoming more
popular (Varnell)1. People are starting to realize that women can accomplish the same
things as men but they still don t get their recognition. Gender inequality seems to
have more problems in the workplace.
The gender pay gap has been an issue forever. Wage discrimination exists when
workers are equally qualified and perform the same work but one group of workers
is paid more than another. The American Association University of Women is
releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of
college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the
woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman)1. The
pay gap is even greater for African American and Latina women. African American

have always been the superior race. African Americanand Hispanic women are

The only women respected in Umuofia are those like Chielo, the priestess of the
Oracle of the Hills and Caves, who is removed from the pale of normalcy. Clothed
in the mystic mantle of the divinity she serves, Chielo transforms from the ordinary;
she can reprimand Okonkwo and even scream curses at him: Beware of exchanging
words with Agbala [the name of the Oracle of the Hills and Caves]. Does a man speak
when a God speaks? Beware! (95). Yet if Okonkwo is powerless before a goddess s

At the end of the novel, Obi Okonkwo yields to the implacable force of traditional
ethos when choosing between his mother (representing traditionalism), who threatens
to kill herself if he marries an outcast or osu, and the outcast protagonist Clara

of the story. But at least she is cast as an educated, financially independent woman.
She has the makings of a spirited, independent character, by virtue of her overseas
education and profession as a nurse. She can afford to do without Obi Okonkwo.

The Importance Of Public School And Public Schools
Public schools provide an environment where young people can discover who they
are meant to become. John Holt s essay, School Is Bad For Children emphasizes the
ways the public school system destroys a student s imagination and willingness to
learn. This is not the case for every school. Schools are often a safe place for
students to learn not only the academic material but, they are also places for students
to develop their talents while building a strong support system. The government can
not regulate every schoolto make sure each student is getting exactly what each
student deserves. While the generic system is easy to maintain and to teach, there is
no guarantee learning is occurring for the students. Public schools help each student
navigate their own minds by providing a general educationby which the students can
choose what they do with their knowledge after they graduate. Without
conventional public schooling, many students would not have the chance to learn,
schools can provide an adequate education regardless of the location of teaching,
and public schools are safe places for children with unidealistic family lives. In the
United States of America the gap between upper and lower class is growing and
public education provides an outlet from poverty. The amount of Americans living
in the middle class is decreasing. If the US decided to change the public school
system and reform schools to be exactly how Holt describes, only the wealthy would
be able to afford
An Explication Of Gwendolyn Brooks A Sunset Of The City
An Explication of Gwendolyn Brooks A Sunset of the City The poem A Sunset of
the City by Gwendolyn Brooks lets us in on the speaker s life that is quickly
coming to an end. Throughout the poem there is talk of love, memories, children,
disease, and dying. Brooks employs the poetic device of symbolism to portray all of
these themes. The beginning of her symbolism starts right away with the title. A
Sunset of the City. The use of the word sunset means the end considering sunsets
happen towards the end of the day. Then the word city stands for active or hectic
considering that cities are usually very eventful and full of random happenings which
may have been the case for the speaker. Putting it all together would translate the title

The main symbols in the stanzas are the speaker s house which I see as a symbol
for her life and the master shore that symbolizes a greater being or God. In the first
line of the fourth paragraph the speaker repeats It is a real chill out. (13). This
same line was written earlier in the second stanza and her repeating it is
emphasizing that this is the real thing and there is no way out of this for her. In
the fourth stanza Brooks writes lines 15, 17, and 18, There is no warm house (15)
and I am cold in this cold house this house / Whose washed echoes are tremulous
down lost halls. (17 18). The symbol of the speaker s life is represented by the use
of the word house. It is insinuated that this is not how she should be spending her
last moments or she could be dying of an incurable disease. Also in line 18 where
she mentions the lost halls these could be a symbol of chances the speaker did not
take or roads she avoided in her life. While reading the fifth stanza you will find
spiritual symbolism such as there shall be such islanding from grief, (23). This
islanding from grief is a suggestion that she would like to travel to an island where
there are no worries and this is a blatant symbol of heaven and the acceptance she
has been yearning for of God. She refers to God as the master shore in line 24.
Towards the end of this stanza she becomes conflicted on how her life should end
in lines 25 27 Twang they. And I incline this ear to tin, / Consult a dual dilemma.
Whether to dry / In humming pallor or to leap and die. (25 27). The speaker is
debating whether or not she should let herself die of natural causes or of her
disease or if she should commit suicide. But if she were to commit suicide, this
would be considered a sin, so would she ever be able to meet
Historically Black Colleges Essay
H istorically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are the institutions in the
United States that were created for the specific purpose of educating Black American
college students. With the push for integrating white institutions during the Civil
Rights Movement, enrollment at many HBCUs has dropped, and their role of
educating the most of the Black middle class has changed dramatically. Although the
student population at the majority of HBCUs remains predominantly black, the
racial diversity of such institutions have undergone tremendous changes over the
years. Young black Americans that attend or plan to attend a historically black
college or university tend to fell a sense of empowerment and community ambiance
with these types of schools. Some of the classes offered and the extracurricular
activities that speak directly to the African American culture may only be available
at HBCUs or may provide the most benefits at a historically black college or

Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions
Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of
the year. I think that because the class was a collective effort rather than an
individual one, it was more motivation for me to participate properly because people
other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that we had written questions
and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual evidence
throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and
make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out
of outcomefour, using the discussion and the process of writingto enhance my
intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that I feel like I used this outcome the
most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion,
through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas
of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of
the text off of. It was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this
reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint Augustine.
Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking the right questions, and
using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong lesson I
learned from Seminar2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found
that making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with

Descriptive Essay On Moving Day
The scene outside, rainy and gloomy, sets an eerie tone. This isn t the typical
August weather, but we re not concerned at all. It ll only make our jobs more
difficult in this harsh downpour. As a matter of fact, my parents have been
waiting for this day ever since they made their choice. My voice didn t matter as
much, so I had two choices. I had tried preparing myself by opting for one of the
choices. However, that wasn t the case on moving day. My day started like every
other day. Laying in bed and unwinding until you have the energy to actually get
out of bed and be productive. Except, it really wasn t. It was August of 2014,
beginning of the school year. I had lived on a street called Larsen Lane nearly all
of my life, and had gone to the same school all my life, too. We should ve been
getting ready for school, but our parents decided we should take the day off. This
kind of unwinding was different because my brother and I had slept on just
mattresses; our bed frames had already been packed. Our room was just plain. The
blue walls had stayed here ever since we had got them painted years ago, but that
was it. The stickers we collected on our sliding glass doors to our closet were all
taken off. I laid there, bland and lifeless, on the verge of tears even, thinking about
the choice that could set me up for middle school. Our mom settled herself in bed
with us, comforting us so we would couldn t get too overwhelmed by the emotions of
leaving behind our old life.

The important thing is to never stop questioning. In science you must question
everything and work to find the answer. The definition of the speed of something in
a given direction. So when a car is moving north how fast it s moving would be its
velocity. When the mass of an object is changed it can change the velocity. Massis the
amount an object weighs. In this experiment I took the mass of carts and changed
them to observe their change in velocity.s. The law of conservation of momentum
requires that the total momentum in the system must remain the same, or be
conserved, even though mass or velocities of moving objects in a system may
change. If the total mass of two colliding carts is increased, then the final velocity of
the carts decrease?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both carts can have the same mass and same velocity, but after the collision will
have a slower velocity. Even after the collision the carts will have a velocity but
their directions will have changed. When the carts change direction the velocities
will change and the cart with the least amount of mass will have the greatest
velocity. If one cart is moving faster in the beginning the one with the least amount
of velocity will go backwards faster. Clearly, the velocity and mass of the cart affects

The Social Movements And Protests Of Africa
The period preceding independence saw a lot democratic movements in many
regions of Africa. The struggles never ended, even after independence. Many
African people have to still battle leadership and other issues that were seen as
threat to the peace of their countries. Most African people look very anxiously for
change as they are very much discontented with their leaders. This could partly be
related to the fact that gaining independence has brought almost no developmental
changes to improve people lives, old structures left behind by colonial rulers were
still the ones in use with no maintenance years after independence. These social
movements came to being as a result of failure of social and economic promises
made by the successors of the colonial governments. My main focus in this paper is
to highlight on the recent social movements and protests in Africa since the 1980s
that saw the falling down of both military and single party state as well as civil wars
prevailing in most countries in Africa. Women movements are very keen during this
era of which the Women of LiberiaMass Action for Peace movement is an example.
The effort of women in Liberia was seen in their struggle with two different radicals
bodies which involved the President Taylor and the Rebels in trying to end the
decades of civil war in the country. The series of wars in the Liberian history resulted
in thousands of deaths, disabled, broken homes causing millions to flee and become
refugees into the
The Premature Burial Analysis
Part A: The story The Premature Burial teaches us that to overcome our fears we
must face them. He shows this by first explaining his fear of being burred
alive(heebie jeebies like crazy). Explaining that he had a condition called
catalepsy witch caused him to appear dead for up to months. Then he tells how
nothing he tried would cure his fear not even his friends most solemn promises or
most sacred oaths could he be contented. Then he tells how one day he believed his
fear had come true. He says I could no longer doubt that I reposed within a coffin at
last. He tries to get out but cant seem to find a way out, and all the precautions that
he had put in place to keep him from being trapped if he was actual barred alive were

Death Is The End Of Death
There Is Nothing To Fear In Death.
Everybody will die at some point. I know death is coming and there is nothing to
fear about it because I believe that there is nothing about it on the other side to be
afraid of. I was content, perfectly, to be precise before I was born and I believe it will
be the same state even with death.
In this essay, I will talk try to talk about why there is nothing to be afraid of in
death. It is evident that death cannot be experienced, in the physical form. This is
because by definition, death is the end of all physical experience. Therefore, there is
no reason to have fear for something you will not experience. According to Ruch
2012, in the event of a physical death and the spiritual plane exists, then we would
suppose that there would be a spiritual sense of freedom which one should not be
afraid of either.
John Donne says to death not to be proud. As much as it appears dreadful and
mighty, in reality death is powerless. Most Christians view death as a gateway to a
new life. Actually, they view it as a better life of no sorrows but happiness and
plenty of it. We should therefore not view death as the end but as a great new
beginning. We should view death as a form of sleep that will come to an end with an
awakening to an unending consciousness of oneself. Even if this expectation did not
exist, some of us would take comfort in the thought that one s energy, in the least,
would remain as part of the universe at large. Spinoza and Aristotle hold
Canadian Mining Companies Are Responsible For

Canada is home to some of the largest mining corporations in the world. In fact,
seventy five percent of the world s mining companies are based in Canada (Dean,
2013). These companies are involved in the extraction of numerous resources,
including silver, petroleum, bitumen and coal. Canadian mining operations also have
a particular focus in gold, as twenty one of the country s top forty miningcompanies
are involved in gold extraction. With billion dollar annual revenues and interests in
almost every continent, these multinational companies are making a large impact
around the globe (Canadian Mining Journal, 2014). However, these impacts are not
necessarily positive. Canadian mining corporations have failed to implement CSR

Environmental and Human Rights Violations Most mining projects aim to exploit
territories of great ecological richness and/or the lands inhabited by... ethnic
minorities (U.S. Office, 2013). Many times, when mining operations commit
environmental violations, they commit human rights violations as well. For this
reason, it is hard to separate these two types of violations. Large scale, open pit
mining by Canadian corporations is responsible for a myriad of environmental
infractions, not only affecting ecosystems, but also having a profound, direct or
indirect, impact on the lives of millions living in Latin America.
1.1 Water Violations
Water is one of the most affected resources in the region due to mining operations
as mass mining extractions are having detrimental effects on surface and ground
water (Cereceda, 2007). First, there is the problem of Acid Mine Drainage, or
AMD. Naturally, sulphuric acid is produced when sulphides in rocks are exposed to
water and air. AMD, however, is a result of this process being greatly magnified.
Large quantities of rocks containing sulphides are excavated in these open pit mines,
reacting to water and air and creating sulphuric acid. This acid leaches out of the
rock, sometimes for

Was Andrew Carnegie a Hero?
Andrew Carnegie is known as the king of steel. He was born November 25, 1835 in
Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1848 he and he and his family immigrated to America and
ended up in Pittsburg, where they lived in a small house and had very little money.
In 1872 he traveled to England where he met Henry Bessemer, the man who
converted iron into steel. He took Bessemer s brilliant steel making process back to
America and built several steel mills in Pennsylvania. At the age of 65 he finally
decided it was time to move on from the mills and he sold the Carnegie Steel
Company to J.P. Morgan for $480,000,000. A hero is... Show more content on

There he met Henry Bessemer, who had developed a special method for converting
iron into steel. Carnegie then adopted this technique and applied it to his newly built
steel mills in the U.S. Soon Carnegie revolutionized the steel industry by creating a
monopoly using his business strategy of vertical integration. Years later he sold the
Carnegie Steel Company to J.P. Morgan for $480,000,000, of which Carnegie
revived $225,639,000 for his share. The fact that Andrew Carnegie went from being a
poor immigrant to one of the world s most revered and wealthiest business icons, is
truly an inspiration for people knowing that you can accomplish anything.
It is easy to see how some people could make the argument that Andrew Carnegie
was not a hero, but in fact a robber barron . You could say that Carnegie s business
practices of vertical integration and his philosophy of Social Darwinism only
benefited the few. Also that it created an unfair opportunity for other business to
succeed as well. Although Andrew Carnegie was in fact a hero because he
developed successful business strategies, was a great philanthropist, and was an
inspirational rags to riches story. Andrew Carnegie revolutionized the way people ran
their business, made America a dominant power in the steel industry, and set an
example for those of wealth and how they should give

How Did The Seven Days Battle Of 1862
The Seven Days Campaign of 1862 was a sequence of battles that took place along
the Virginia Peninsula east of Richmond between the Union Army of the Potomac
and the Confederate Virginia Army. The campaign consisted of the following six
battles: Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, and Savage Station, engagement at Oak Swamp
Bridge, and battles of Frazier s Farm and Malvern Hill over a seven day period.
Major General George B. McClellanled the Union Army of nearly 104,000 soldiers,
while General Robert Edward Lee led the Confederate Army of nearly 92,000
soldiers during this campaign. General Lee s tactical plan and use of several
mission command principles during the Seven Days Campaign from June 25 to July
1, 1862 won a quick and decisive victory for the VirginiaArmy, and drove the Union
troops to retreat down the Virginia Peninsula. General Lee s success in those seven
days remains among the most important in U.S. history because they gave new life to
the Confederacy.
The day after General Joseph E. Johnston suffered wounds during the Battle of
Seven Pines on June 1, 1862, President Jefferson Davis appointed General Lee to
command the Virginia Army. Although, President Davis was initially reluctant with
his appointment of General Lee as he had had limited success and suffered a string
of defeats in the early stages of the Civil War, he had no alternatives. When General
Lee took command, the Confederacy was in crisis. A well equipped Union Army

The Influence Of The Modern Period In British And Irish...
The modernist period in British and Irish literature was one of the most important
and exciting times in literary history. The term modernist stemmed from the
beginning of the 20th century labelled the modern period. The modern period was a
time of confusion and transitions, mostly due to the result of people returning from
World War I. The modern period was an era of massive unemployment and
technological changes. Freud, Jung, and Marx were redefining human identity,
Assembly lines and factories were being introduced, and gender differences were
starting to crumble. The modern period was a time of change, and the field of
Literature was no exception. Susan Gorsky, in her book titled Virginia Woolf, states
that Virginia Woolf perhaps... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poetry, Drama, and fiction were subjected to intensive scrutiny and extensive
redefinition, producing some of the most unusual and often difficult literary creations
in English: Eliot s Wasteland, Yeat s Plays for Dancers, and the fiction of Joyce and
Lawrence is some examples. Modernist literature reflects in it s structure as well as
in it s content the overturning of tradition; the instances upon new design produced
plays and stories without plots or recognizably human characters, poems without
rhyme or meter (16, 17). The Modernist author was able to identify with their
audience by creating stories that not only asked important questions, but also got
under the reader s skin. In George Orwell s essay titled Inside the Whale, he
addresses the fact that James Joyce s Ulysses is remarkable due to the fact of its
commonplaceness of its material. (Inside The Whale and Other Essays, 11). The
reader is able to put themselves in the characters shoes, the characters are very
three dimensional, and like modern life their stories are not so much like a fairy
tales, as they are of everyday life. The character Joyce creates in Ulysses enters
many different states of consciousness, dream states, drunkenness.... demonstrating
the ability modern literature has in relating the ideas of consciousness, in a way that
the reader would be able to identify with. Orwell goes further to say that Ulysses was
filled with a Whole
How Does Shakespeare Present Ophelia s Madness In
Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s, The Tragedy of Hamlet, each character stands out in
unique ways. Madness is one of the crucial themes as Shakespeare depicts the
chaotic turbulence in the Hamlet family and the court of Denmark. Though she is
generally read as a minor character, Ophelia s madness reveals the struggle of the
female character that attempts to have a voice of her own. Ophelia s life certainly
seems tragic based on Aristotle s definition of tragedy, which says that A tragedy is
the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in
itself; inappropriate and pleasurable language;...in a dramatic rather than narrative
form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of
these emotions (1). Throughout the play, Ophelia s character demonstrates a three
phased change from a timid daughter who lacks the will of her own, to a temptress
on a mission who suddenly reveals the bawdy part of her nature, and finally to the
mad woman who liberally expresses her oppressed feelings and sorrow with lyrics
and songs.
As a woman in a male dominated society, Ophelia is subject to a life of obedience
and is not allowed to express herself or true feelings. For the male characters in the
play, such as Hamlet, Polonius, and even Claudius Ophelia is merely a tool to be
exploited and manipulated. David Leverenz concludes Ophelia s dramatic function in
the play to be, everyone has used her: Polonius, to gain favor; Laertes, to
Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler, a distinguished German astronomer, mathematician and
philosopher was well known for devising and validating three laws of planetary
motion now known as Kepler s Laws. Kepler was born December 27, 1571 in Weil
der Stadt in Swabia, Germany. In 1576 he moved and enrolled in the Latin school
there in Leonberg. Eight years late, Johannes joined the Protestant seminar at
Adelberg and began his university schooling at the Protestant University of Tubingen
studying Theology. While continuing his graduate studies in 1591, he became highly
influenced by a mathematics professor by the name of Michael Maestlin, a strong
believer of heliocentric theory first established by Nicolaus Copernicus, a polish
astronomer. Kepler acknowledged Copernican s theory instantaneously and believed
that Copernicans universal ordering had to be God s creation. Three years later,
Kepler was employed at the Protestant seminary in Graz, Styria as a professor,
teaching mathematics. Kepler taught arithmetic, geometry and rhetoric for six years.
During this time he discovered an intricate theory that could explain the distance
between the orbits of the planets, presuming that they were circular. Kepler then
suggested that the sun... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Maltese Falcon Movie Book Comparison Essay

The Maltese Falcon Comparison
Samuel Spade of The Maltese Falcon novel by Dashiell Hammett is quite different
from Samuel Spade of The Maltese Falcon motion picture. The book was written a
good decade before that version of the movie was produced and in a much more
casual time period. The novel focuses on making Sam out to be a more complex
character than the movie does. He is not just the good guy as he is portrayed more
so in the movie. The time period may have had a lot to do with the differences
between the 1941 movie and the book, published in 1929. The first thing to
consider is that the late 1920 s were a much more relaxed, party era, while the early
1940 s were an era of strict decorum. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another striking difference between the novel and the film is the portrayal of the
femme fatale antihero Brigid O Shaughnessy. The book, once again in stride with
the time period it was published in, portrays her as a very sexually charged
woman, someone who is without a doubt willing to use her sexuality to her
advantage in any situation. An example of her comfort with her sexuality is seen
when she strips in a bathroom for Spade and In her mien was pride without
defiance or embarrassment (196). The movie, however, shows her in a more
traditional role of a woman, someone who uses her femininity to her advantage,
playing the poor helpless girl more often. Instead of having Brigid strip in the
movie, she merely pleads with Sam, begging him to believe that she did not take the
money. In its entirety, The Maltese Falcon novel reflects a more evolved character in
both Sam Spade and Brigid O Shaughnessy. Each character is real enough to know
that right decisions aren t always clear and that sometimes no one can be trusted,
as is seen when Spade searches Brigid s room or strip searches her. While the Sam
Spade of the movie still reserved his doubts about people he met, he was a much
less multi faceted character, one who could still make all the right choices and by
the end of the story save the day. At the same time, the novel begs the question by the
end of the story did Sam Spade make the right decision? The

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Delegated Legislation
Delegated legislation Name Institutional affiliation Delegated legislation permits the
government to make changes to law without the need to create a new act of
parliament. Parliament is delegating its power to make laws to other individual or
organizations. The Enabling Act or the Parent Act facilitates this transfer of power.
This act will provide the scope and any special procedure of the delegated legislation
that must be complied with. Delegated legislation is also referred to as subordinate or
secondary legislation. The power to create such laws is often delegated to local
authorities, government ministers and other organizations. There are three types of

It also allows law related to technical matters to be created by those with the
required knowledge of these matters. It allows local authorities to make laws that
are relevant to the local area and issues specific to that authority. The process of
creating delegated legislation is speedy and laws can easily be passed during
times of emergencies. Laws passed through delegated legislation can also be used
to fulfil obligations under the EU. There are disadvantages associated with the use
of delegated legislation. These disadvantages include less parliamentary scrutiny.
Creation of laws through delegated legislation is a less democratic method. There
is lack of publicity in the creation of laws and there are issues associated with sub
delegation. A large volume of delegated legislation is created and this may affect
their effectiveness. Creation of laws through this process also undermines the
principle of separation of powers. Additionally, it may give rise to the use of the
Henry VIII clause, which allows ministers to amend primary

  • 2. Essay about A Look Inside Forgiveness Everyone has the control within them to forgive or not to forgive someone. Forgiveness comes down to taking responsibility for the choices we make and doing what we believe is right. By forgiving others, authority of our own lives can be regained by letting go of the conflicting objects from the past and moving into a more significant direction. The world today is full of conflict and people are being hurt every day. Conflict is seen today in politics, between countries, and between your average everyday people. Conflicts such as those listed above are often shaping the atmosphere we live in and shaping the person we are today. We can see that forgivenessis a place to start when trying to resolve conflicts, but not everyone will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is instead a lesson to be taken in and learned from the past by looking ahead without holding in the pain. In the case that an agreement cannot be met, there will instead be an opportunity to learn from the past. In the Sunflower, Simon Wiesenthal was one of the many Jews working in a concentration camp of the Holocaust (Wiesenthal 3). Wiesenthal was one of fifty men chosen to work at a hospital for Nazi soldiers when the work at the concentration camp was done (Wiesenthal 11). As the Jews marched to the Nazi hospital they came across a cemetery of dead soldiers (Wiesenthal 14). Wiesenthal envied each of the soldiers, as every one of them was connected to the earth by a sunflower on top of their gravestones (Wiesenthal 14). He states, For me there would be no sunflower. I would be buried in a mass grave, where corpses would be piled on top of me (Wiesenthal 14). As Wiesenthal sat inside the hospital and listened to the dying Nazi man, he found the man soon asking for forgiveness for the sins he had committed against the Jews (Wiesenthal 54). Wiesenthal did not grant forgiveness to the dying Nazi man as he felt he could not speak for every Jew that had been tortured or even killed (Wiesenthal 98). Many people often get caught up in the desire to be forgiven that they forget to think about who can grant forgiveness before approaching them. In the instance that Wiesenthal did not forgive the man
  • 3. Preparation Buffers Abstract Buffer solutions were prepared and their pH measured to determine their buffering capacity. Three buffer solutions were utilized; an undiluted buffer, a diluted buffer solution with 10ml water and a diluted buffer solution with 18ml water. In the undiluted buffer solution there was minimal pH change with a high of 6.78 and a low of 6.47. In the buffer solution in which 10ml of water was added there was minimal pH change with a high of 6.78 and a low of 6.23. In the buffer solution in which 18ml water was added there was significant change in pH with a high of 6.1 and a low of 2.27. Introduction A buffer solution is a solution that is made up of water and a chemical which gives it unique properties with regard to its pH. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.0ml of buffer solution was taken (through the use of a graduated pipette) and 18.0ml of distilled water added to it. The pH of the solution was measured and the buffer capacity tested by the use of the procedure outlined in the previous section. Results Discussion and Conclusion Table 1 There is minimal change in the pH of the buffer with a high of 6.78 and a low of 6.47. The equivalence point is approximately 6.64. This shows that as the quantity of the buffering agent s acid (HA) and conjugate base (A ) changes, the buffering capacity of the solution decreases. As a consequence, a buffer agent can only be utilized up to a given point in which case it does not resist pH changes and seizes to be a buffer solution. Table 2 There is minimal change in the pH of the buffer with a high of 6.78 and a low of 6.23. The equivalence point is approximately 6.6. The addition of water dissociates the buffer agent further as shown in the equation below: HA(aq) + H2O(l) H2O+(aq) + A (aq) HCl (aq) + H2O(l) H+(aq) + Cl (aq) The concentration of the conjugate base and acid thus changes. The buffering capacity of the solution decreases. As a consequence, a buffer agent can only be utilized up to a given point in which case it does not resist pH changes and seizes to be a buffer solution.

  • 7. School Life And College Life Essay An Essay on School Life and College Life There is a great deal of difference between school life and college life. School life is a life of restrictions and control, a life in which the student has to be accountable for his daily work to his teachers and his guardian. But a college student, of the other hand, enjoys much greater freedom from control and supervision; he is, to a very large extent, the master of his own destiny. It lies with him to make it or mar it. At school the students has to be in attendance for fixed hours every day. He has to leave home at ten or eleven and return at four at college, however, the hours of attendance very. Sometimes, a college student has hardly time in the morning to gulp his food; at others, he has enough time to lounge about for a few minutes after a leisurely meal. On some days he returns early from college; or others, it is late evening by the time he gets back home. He has ample time at his disposal to use, abuse, or misuse. At school the student has to prepare his daily lessons and may be taken to task for what he has left undone. But at college he can do his lessons daily, or not ... But at college students are expected to develop a sense of responsibility and personal initiative. Of course it has to be admitted that college life offers greater scope to a student to go astray. It he takes himself light heartedly, he will have to suffer. It he allows arrears of studies to accumulate he will pay the price with failure and disgrace. Hence a studious pupil improves more rapidly at college than at school; but a waster comes quicker to
  • 8. John Irving Research Paper His childhood of theatre brought him a love for stories with intricate plots. His college experiences that made him question his sexually brough him into the world of the (generally) unaccepted. John Irving and his wife have three sons, one of which is openly gay. Irving writes about the unfortunate, the unexpected and the unaccepted. One novel includes a bi character as well as two transgender women (In One Person). One even has an orphan who grows up to become an abortionist after a traumatic experience with a prostitute(Cider House Rules). Each of these issues was, and still is, an idea that many people disagree with. I spent some of my childhood backstage in a small town theatre. My earliest interest in storytelling came from the theatre, and I imagined myself as an actor. But Great Expectations and other novels by Dickens inspired me to want to write.... A popular topic among the media, the LGBT+ community is gaining more and more rights as time goes by. About this topic, Irving says When I was a boy, I imagined having sex with my friends mothers, with girls my own age yes, even with certain older boys among my wrestling teammates. It turned out that I liked girls, but the memory of my attractions to the wrong people never left me. What I m saying is that the impulse to bisexuality was very strong; my earliest sexual experiences more important, my earliest sexual imaginings taught me that sexual desire is mutable. In fact, in my case at a most formative age sexual mutability was the norm. What made me a writer was definitely a combination of what I read and what I imagined especially, what I imagined sexually. • 9. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Historical Cost Accounting 1.Academicians as well as practitioners have long debated the issue of historical cost accounting versus current value accounting. The historical cost is the original nominal monetary value of the items purchased. Based on the historical cost concept, it states that the amount of the assets acquired should be recorded with the original amount paid at date of acquisition and should include all costs necessary to get the asset in place and ready for use. Historical cost helps to distinguish an asset s original cost from its current replacement cost, current market cost and inflation adjusted cost as it does not generally reflect the current market valuation. It is never adjusted for the future market or economy changes and inflation. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The one of the advantages is the historical cost can be verified. The cost of purchases at date of acquisition is documented with contracts, invoices and payments. It is useful in matching the changes in profits or expenses relating to the asset purchased, as well as determining the past opportunity costs. With historical cost accounting, managers have the resources to forecast the future operational costs. On the other hand, FASB has decided to use the historical cost principle because it is reliable and objective. It is also easy to use and understand. The disadvantages of historical cost accounting include that it does not evaluate the current market value. It does not really tell the financial users how much the assets are currently worth. Furthermore, historical cost accounting does not record the opportunity cost of using the old assets. It does not record the loss in real value of assets as a result of inflation or the gain in real value of assets as a result of deflation. It is claimed that it is not useful for financial information users to compare the corporate s performance over time. Lastly, the financial information in historical cost concept presents an old interest rate and outdated

  • 12. Im Proud To Be Puerto Rican Essay Are you Puerto Rican or American? Hesitantly, I don t know what to say when people ask me this question because I feel that I have to choose between the two ethnicities. Since I was born in the U.S., I am considered American. But, if I say I am American, I am asked about my origins. Thus, controversy evolves around inhabitants of Puerto Ricobecause they are considered Americans since Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States. My skin is white, my eyes are brown, and my hair is dark brown. I am confused with Europeans, such as Italians, Portuguese, or Spanish. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While they talked about Latinos, I kept quiet; I didn t want them to think of me negatively. This experience lasted throughout the school year. When I returned to school after the summer break, half of my classmates were Latinos. The Latinos in my class differed in the way that they were proud to say they were Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Dominican. Thus, I pursued a relationship with these classmates and I began to feel differently about Latinos. I realized that I was taking part in the prejudice thoughts my previous classmates had toward Latinos by concealing my identity. I also recognized that Latinos were struggling to pursue a better life and that we are looked down upon. As a result of discrimination, it is difficult for us to accomplish our goals in life. Presently, every opportunity I get, I talk about my culture. I discuss the hardships Latinos face and I describe my experience growing up Puerto Rican. Although I am Puerto Rican, I don t know as much about my culture as I should. Reading Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America by Juan Gonzalez has brought new insights to my knowledge of Puerto Ricans and Latinos in general. Gonzalez focuses on language and writes that speaking Spanish is treated as a handicap instead of as an asset. Gonzalez gives us a brief history of Puerto Rico. He writes about the changes of the official language, which was English in the past and has changed to Spanish.

Edward the Black Prince was able to cause a disastrous battle in France and the result of the battle was that Edward the Black Prince was able to capture King John II (Jean II) as well as almost 2,000 aristocracy members of France. Edward the Black Prince wanted a ransom. France was at a loss without their king and did not know what to do so they signed the Treaty of Bretigny in 1360 that states that they would cede a large amount of northern territory and the shoreline to England. In exchange for this deal, Edward the Black Prince was required to give up his claim to the throne. After the loss of the two great generals of England, Edward III and Edward the Black Prince, the French regained control of most parts of France and in 1389 the two sides signed a true as well as extended the treaty in 1396 for 28 years. In 1964, The Battle of Auray was the battle where the English forces under John Chandos besieged Auray and the leader of the French army, Bertrand du Guesclin, was captured. During this time, the French King known as King Jean II died

My name was posted on the short list in the hall next to my homeroom class and I am a Highland Dancer now. My best friend Theresa made it also, we have been placed in the same dance group. Even though we are only sophomores we are put into the Senior Dance Group A. This group just happens to be the best dance group at Riverview. We have been informed that we will be in the group that gets to perform at the Inaugural Parade if we make it through the cuts for the Parade. Six months later, I was walking to first period when I am called to the office. All the Kilties in Senior Dance Group A were called. We were confused until we found out about The Letter. The Letter stated that we were going to the Presidential Inaugural Parade. We are performing in front of President Reagan LIVE! Theresa and I already have room assignment in the hotel. Both countries had much to offer in that time including new technology, governments, religions, and items to trade. The two countries have and had had many similarities and contrasts. The geography of ancient India was a little different than what is to this day. The Himalayan mountains are located in the Northern part of India and the Hindu Kush are located in the North West. Three bodies of water surround southern India, the Arabian sea is to the south west, the Indian ocean on the southern side, and The Bay of Bengal to the southeast. India was extended more to the Northwest and west, in ancient times. Jungles, forests, and mountains are great examples of the geography of India. The Himalayan mountains still lay to the north. The Himalayan mountains were great to the development of India s early civilizations. They provided a great deal of protection from military invasions. In the east and west other mountains also provided the same protection. Ancient India had some of the most extreme climatic and geographical features. China is located on the the continent of Asia. The civilizations began to form around the Yellow River in 2000 BCE. China s culture is still the same but three other civilizations have gone away or been taken over. The southern region of ancient China was wet and tropical, the northwestern part of China was desert. In the very far

  • 24. Taking a Look at Different Spiritual Disciplines Spiritual Disciplines In my given faith exposure to the Spiritual Disciplines was rather limited; there was fasting that we did during Lent, and prayer that was for a lack of a better term, scripted. Intercessory prayers were made mostly to the venerated saints instead of directly to Jesus Christ. In fact, two of the most common intercessory prayers I said to the saints were to St. Jude, the Patron Saint of Hopelessness and St. Michael, the Archangel, who is the Patron Saint and protector of those in public safety. For many years it was understood that if you needed something in prayer, you prayed to the appropriate saint in ritualistic prayer. As I mentioned fasting was associated with Lent and during the Lenten season your fast was to give up something you were attached to and of course meat on Fridays. Once Lent was over so was your fasting. Even worship is termed differently and is more commonly known as duty or Liturgy ( Liturgy definition, n.d., para. 1). Unfortunately, this sense of duty removes the sense of worship that involves our whole being (Foster, 1998, p. 169). When worship is turned into duty instead of something you freely want to do, it is no wonder that people turn away from corporate worship. Certainly, I knew of these disciplines but their purpose was never really understood and truly, I never knew they were disciplines. To my relief it was discovered that my generation and many others were left in ignorance of the most simple and practical

We want to change that point of view. It is a kind of stereotyping when someone says Mini is a young people s car and it is for fun. That s why our goal to be accomplished with this program is to attract new customers regardless of their age range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini brand. We want to increase awareness because we want our potential new customers to be aware of what the company and product stands for. • 36. The Importance Of Public School And Public Schools Public schools provide an environment where young people can discover who they are meant to become. John Holt s essay, School Is Bad For Children emphasizes the ways the public school system destroys a student s imagination and willingness to learn. This is not the case for every school. Schools are often a safe place for students to learn not only the academic material but, they are also places for students to develop their talents while building a strong support system. The government can not regulate every schoolto make sure each student is getting exactly what each student deserves. While the generic system is easy to maintain and to teach, there is no guarantee learning is occurring for the students. Public schools help each student navigate their own minds by providing a general educationby which the students can choose what they do with their knowledge after they graduate. Without conventional public schooling, many students would not have the chance to learn, schools can provide an adequate education regardless of the location of teaching, and public schools are safe places for children with unidealistic family lives. In the United States of America the gap between upper and lower class is growing and public education provides an outlet from poverty. The amount of Americans living in the middle class is decreasing. An Explication Of Gwendolyn Brooks A Sunset Of The City An Explication of Gwendolyn Brooks A Sunset of the City The poem A Sunset of the City by Gwendolyn Brooks lets us in on the speaker s life that is quickly coming to an end. Throughout the poem there is talk of love, memories, children, disease, and dying. Brooks employs the poetic device of symbolism to portray all of these themes. The beginning of her symbolism starts right away with the title. A Sunset of the City. The use of the word sunset means the end considering sunsets happen towards the end of the day. Then the word city stands for active or hectic considering that cities are usually very eventful and full of random happenings which may have been the case for the speaker. Putting it all together would translate the title ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main symbols in the stanzas are the speaker s house which I see as a symbol for her life and the master shore that symbolizes a greater being or God. In the first line of the fourth paragraph the speaker repeats It is a real chill out. (13). This same line was written earlier in the second stanza and her repeating it is emphasizing that this is the real thing and there is no way out of this for her. In the fourth stanza Brooks writes lines 15, 17, and 18, There is no warm house (15) and I am cold in this cold house this house / Whose washed echoes are tremulous down lost halls. (17 18). The symbol of the speaker s life is represented by the use of the word house. It is insinuated that this is not how she should be spending her last moments or she could be dying of an incurable disease. Also in line 18 where she mentions the lost halls these could be a symbol of chances the speaker did not take or roads she avoided in her life. While reading the fifth stanza you will find spiritual symbolism such as there shall be such islanding from grief, (23). This islanding from grief is a suggestion that she would like to travel to an island where there are no worries and this is a blatant symbol of heaven and the acceptance she has been yearning for of God. She refers to God as the master shore in line 24. Towards the end of this stanza she becomes conflicted on how her life should end in lines 25 27 Twang they. And I incline this ear to tin, / Consult a dual dilemma. Whether to dry / In humming pallor or to leap and die. (25 27). The speaker is debating whether or not she should let herself die of natural causes or of her disease or if she should commit suicide. But if she were to commit suicide, this would be considered a sin, so would she ever be able to meet

Historically Black Colleges Essay H istorically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are the institutions in the United States that were created for the specific purpose of educating Black American college students. With the push for integrating white institutions during the Civil Rights Movement, enrollment at many HBCUs has dropped, and their role of educating the most of the Black middle class has changed dramatically. Although the student population at the majority of HBCUs remains predominantly black, the racial diversity of such institutions have undergone tremendous changes over the years. Young black Americans that attend or plan to attend a historically black college or university tend to fell a sense of empowerment and community ambiance with these types of schools. I think that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcomefour, using the discussion and the process of writingto enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong lesson I learned from Seminar2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with

It ll only make our jobs more difficult in this harsh downpour. As a matter of fact, my parents have been waiting for this day ever since they made their choice. My voice didn t matter as much, so I had two choices. I had tried preparing myself by opting for one of the choices. However, that wasn t the case on moving day. My day started like every other day. Laying in bed and unwinding until you have the energy to actually get out of bed and be productive. Except, it really wasn t. It was August of 2014, beginning of the school year. I had lived on a street called Larsen Lane nearly all of my life, and had gone to the same school all my life, too. We should ve been getting ready for school, but our parents decided we should take the day off. This kind of unwinding was different because my brother and I had slept on just mattresses; our bed frames had already been packed. Our room was just plain. The blue walls had stayed here ever since we had got them painted years ago, but that was it. The stickers we collected on our sliding glass doors to our closet were all taken off. I laid there, bland and lifeless, on the verge of tears even, thinking about the choice that could set me up for middle school. Our mom settled herself in bed with us, comforting us so we would couldn t get too overwhelmed by the emotions of leaving behind our old life.

Many African people have to still battle leadership and other issues that were seen as threat to the peace of their countries. Most African people look very anxiously for change as they are very much discontented with their leaders. This could partly be related to the fact that gaining independence has brought almost no developmental changes to improve people lives, old structures left behind by colonial rulers were still the ones in use with no maintenance years after independence. These social movements came to being as a result of failure of social and economic promises made by the successors of the colonial governments. My main focus in this paper is to highlight on the recent social movements and protests in Africa since the 1980s that saw the falling down of both military and single party state as well as civil wars prevailing in most countries in Africa. Women movements are very keen during this era of which the Women of LiberiaMass Action for Peace movement is an example. The effort of women in Liberia was seen in their struggle with two different radicals bodies which involved the President Taylor and the Rebels in trying to end the decades of civil war in the country. The series of wars in the Liberian history resulted in thousands of deaths, disabled, broken homes causing millions to flee and become refugees into the

  • 47. Death Is The End Of Death There Is Nothing To Fear In Death. Everybody will die at some point. I know death is coming and there is nothing to fear about it because I believe that there is nothing about it on the other side to be afraid of. I was content, perfectly, to be precise before I was born and I believe it will be the same state even with death. In this essay, I will talk try to talk about why there is nothing to be afraid of in death. It is evident that death cannot be experienced, in the physical form. This is because by definition, death is the end of all physical experience. Therefore, there is no reason to have fear for something you will not experience. According to Ruch 2012, in the event of a physical death and the spiritual plane exists, then we would suppose that there would be a spiritual sense of freedom which one should not be afraid of either. John Donne says to death not to be proud. As much as it appears dreadful and mighty, in reality death is powerless. Most Christians view death as a gateway to a new life. Actually, they view it as a better life of no sorrows but happiness and plenty of it. We should therefore not view death as the end but as a great new beginning. We should view death as a form of sleep that will come to an end with an awakening to an unending consciousness of oneself. Even if this expectation did not exist, some of us would take comfort in the thought that one s energy, in the least, would remain as part of the universe at large. Spinoza and Aristotle hold

Madness is one of the crucial themes as Shakespeare depicts the chaotic turbulence in the Hamlet family and the court of Denmark. Though she is generally read as a minor character, Ophelia s madness reveals the struggle of the female character that attempts to have a voice of her own. Ophelia s life certainly seems tragic based on Aristotle s definition of tragedy, which says that A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself; inappropriate and pleasurable language;...in a dramatic rather than narrative form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions (1). Throughout the play, Ophelia s character demonstrates a three phased change from a timid daughter who lacks the will of her own, to a temptress on a mission who suddenly reveals the bawdy part of her nature, and finally to the mad woman who liberally expresses her oppressed feelings and sorrow with lyrics and songs. As a woman in a male dominated society, Ophelia is subject to a life of obedience and is not allowed to express herself or true feelings. For the male characters in the play, such as Hamlet, Polonius, and even Claudius Ophelia is merely a tool to be exploited and manipulated. David Leverenz concludes Ophelia s dramatic function in the play to be, everyone has used her: Polonius, to gain favor; Laertes, to

The novel focuses on making Sam out to be a more complex character than the movie does. He is not just the good guy as he is portrayed more so in the movie. An example of her comfort with her sexuality is seen when she strips in a bathroom for Spade and In her mien was pride without defiance or embarrassment (196). The movie, however, shows her in a more traditional role of a woman, someone who uses her femininity to her advantage, playing the poor helpless girl more often.
