Essay on Influences and Reality
Influences and Reality
As adults do we tend to read the styles we ve grown up with? Do we find ourselves subscribing to
and reaching for magazines in the checkout line that our parents read? I do. As I become more
independent I see subtle changes in the styles around me but find myself grounded in what my
parents, my brothers and my environment have familiarized me with.
Strewn around me are volumes of Outdoor Life , Prevention , Better Homes and Gardens , Midwest
Living , Vogue and Masonry Construction. A magazine to satisfy many interests, each containing
pieces of my life. You will not find Time or Forbes in my hands unless I have research to do in
them for school. I am not familiar with politics, big business or ... Show more content on

A great influence on the styles around me is attributed to where I live and intend to live. The first
magazines I looked at as a child were Masonry Construction and Popular Mechanics because that is
what my dad read. When my family moved up north to a resort from the Twin Cities suddenly my
world at the age of six was changed and I loved it. I think I was too young to fully appreciate styles
of writing at age six but as I got older I saw my way of life in other magazines such as Country
Living. A conservative, country life; simple and surrounded by beauty.
Country Living and Better Homes and Gardens have a small town, country style. The articles
and information given have conversational tones, a sense that something is sincere and shared.
Recipes are often given with a story to introduce their significance, perhaps a family memory;
not just jotted down for another to copy. The writing involves me. I think What a great memory
and as I look on I see that I could make the same dish with ease. I enjoy stories about other rural
peoples lives and how they cope with weeds in their vegetable garden or how they added a porch
to their home and now enjoy Eavesdropping on a wren s refrain and watching a game of squirrel
tag in the treetops (Nolan 90). The style is family and nature oriented and aesthetic.
Midwest Living sparks my interest because of my life on the resort. Articles address

Cpr 380 Reading Worksheet
CPRL 380: READING SHEET (A sheet must be completed for each set of reading assignments.
Must be computer typed on this form.) YOUR NAME: Daniel Nieto READING (give authors of
readings): Grossman, Rai, Leshan 1. Summarize the central themes, theses, issues, or arguments of
the reading assignment. All three articles discuss the central issue of what motivates someone to
commit a violent act or kill another person. They do this in slightly different ways, and with
different context having both Grossman and Leshan discuss violence in the context of war.
Grossmans discuss the topics in multifaceted approach and brings up several different reasons why
specifically someone would be willing to kill someone such as emotional, cultural, moral, social,
and mechanical distance. Leshan mainly discussed the idea that there is a change in the perception
of reality during war time which justifies the killing of other people. Finally, is Rai who states and
argues that morality is the main motivation the drives people to commit violent acts against others

Leshan has two points the first point is that there are two realities one during peace time and one
during war times, and it s the shift from what he calls the sensory world of peace time and the
mythical time of war that allows us to mentally adjust to the justification that the killing of the
enemy is done because they are mythical, demonic, or total evil. This shift is also characterized by
a shift in how various things are perceived based on the examples Leshan uses to demonstrate the
differences between war time in which the topics discussed become very dichotomous and extreme.
Finally, Rai discuss the idea that morality and as Rai states sustain a moral order is main motivation

Essay On The Army
I knew you would screw up something... It always happens, and always a different way... but this
situation looks very serious... Where are the rest of the guys? Major looked at me questionably
and Dusko also looked at me but with the horror in his eyes. To me, it was funny how their looks
were different, reflecting their totally different positions at that moment. It would be much nicer to
watch this entire situation as a movie from some good seats. But, it was not a time for analyzing
their minds, no matter how much alcohol I had in my system.
I let them home for the New Year celebration... they will be here in the morning finally I said

For a short time, he was my superior officer in reserve but he never acted like an officer, he was
more to me as a friend, brother... So, I know you and I am not surprised with what I found here...
He took a hefty sip of brandy from his glass and smoked his cigarette... Dusko and I were quiet, not
wanting to disturb him. Both of them were now smoking and the room was full of thick smoke.
But, I did not come all this way here to control you. It s not my duty, there are few our captains
and lieutenants in charge of controlling of all our units. But, something happened... One of our
captains from command was playing with the grenade during the New Year celebration, just a few
hours ago. He was teasing some other people who would hold the grenade for the longest period
without security pin... And somehow... who knows how the grenade exploded in his hand... I was
called immediately and rushed to the hospital to see him... And there was not much to see... The
doctors are still fighting for his life...
Why he did that? Dusko was not aware how his question was stupid, but it was maybe the only
question you could ask in that moment.
He was one of our officers who came back from the war... from Vukovar.
The name Vukovar itself was enough to explain everything. Military and paramilitary operations
there went off too much for any normal mind. I was lucky enough not to have any connection with
those operations, except through the reports of my colleague s journalists who were

Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Environment
Overpopulation is often Times argued as one of the most severe, if not the most severe,
environmental problem. This past year world population exceeded 7.3 billion and continues to
grow at an alarming rate. By the year 2050 it is projected that world population will exceed over
nine billion. Overpopulation puts a serious strain on the world and its resources and is a root cause
of many environmental issues. Issues such as, climate change, diminishing biodiversity, and
pollution, are all just some of the problems caused by overpopulation. In order to control the rapid
population growthit is imperative that countries begin to further educate their citizens in family
planning and responsible resource consumption.
Paul Ehrlich, an American scientist and a former professor of population studies at Stanford
University, states that
For an area to be considered overpopulated; its population reaches a point where it can t be
maintained without rapidly depleting nonrenewable resources (or converting renewable resources
into nonrenewable ones) and without degrading the capacity of the environment to support the
population. (Caion Demaestri)
Studies suggest that when it comes to our consumption of the earth s resources, society is living
beyond its means (Dimick.) Without natural resources, life on earth does not exist and at the rate
that the earth s human population is growing, resources are running out faster than most are aware
of. Finite natural resources, including freshwater,

Summary Of Saboteur By Ha Jin
Ha Jin s short story Saboteur tells of a man who seems discontent, idealistic, and gravely ill. In
Muji, Mr. Chui, is accused of sabotage and taken by force to jail after a run in with railroad
authorities. His crime is for speaking out against police officers assaulting him and his bride during
lunch in the city square. The reader is lead to believe this is a simple case of excessive force by the
police, therefore the abuse of power is the catalyst of this short story, but the real story is about Mr.
Chui s contempt for all those around him and his utter lack of integrity.
Mr. Chui is thirty four, a lecturer at Harbin University, is gaunt, pale, and still recuperating from
hepatitis. His bride, a pale girl who wears glasses, is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the railroad police station, he is interrogated for hours by the bureau chief, who demands a
confession. Professing his innocence, he is defiant about not signing a letter of self criticism. Your
police station owes me an apology (Jin). Feeling sick, his hepatitis flairs under the stress, but he is
left imprisoned until Monday when the chief returns.
Monday morning his bride sends a former student of Mr. Chui, Fenji, a lawyer from a small firm
of two attorneys to get him out of jail. The young man confronts and insults the chief, who sends
him to the yard in the heat to learn some manners. Mr. Chui sees Fenji from his window and feels
nauseous Poor devil, he thought, as he raised a bowl of corn glue to his mouth (Jin). He realizes
he has to sign the confession to get them out of jail. After signing, Mr. Chui is so sick he can
barely walk (Jin), if he were able to he would razed the entire police station and eliminated all
their families (Jin). Once outside, Mr. Chui and Fenji, begin to walk around the station stopping at
several restaurants to eat and drink small amounts of food. Fenji watch his teacher mutter to
himself and and for the first time Fenji thought of Mr. Chui as an ugly man. (Jin). Muji City, a
month later, has an outbreak of hepatitis. A man of honor would not endanger others as he has. In
conclusion, his contempt is not a grand cause for the good of others it is how he feels about
everything. His bride, his

The Crossover Utility Vehicle Or Suv Segment Is Booming
The subcompact crossover utility vehicle or SUV segment is booming, due to a slew of new
products introduced within months of each other this year. The segment is not new, but it does
demonstrate that consumers have an insatiable appetite for all things SUV. As a result,
manufacturers are looking for ways to gratify that demand.
We saw our first subcompact SUVs in the 1990s in both the first generation Kia Sportage and the
Chevrolet Tracker. Those vehicles either grew in proportions or were replaced by larger models to
reflect consumer interest in spacious SUVs.
Demand for compact models such as the Honda CR V, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, and the Toyota
RAV4 seemed to indicate that larger was better. But interest in vehicles such as the... Show more

The 2016 Fiat 500X is sold in Pop ($20,000), Easy ($22,300), Trekking ($23,100), Lounge
($24,850) and Trekking Plus ($27,100) editions. Except for the Pop, all wheel drive can be had
across the model line, adding $1,900 to the corresponding model line.
The base Pop gives shoppers a choice of a normally aspirated 2.4 liter four cylinder engine (180
horsepower and 175 foot pounds of torque) paired with a nine speed automatic transmission or a
turbocharged 1.4 liter four cylinder engine (160 horsepower and 184 foot pounds of torque) paired

My test model came with the larger engine and the automatic transmission. It was my third go

So before I go cover all the nuances of the new SUV, allow me to give you the skinny on the driving
aspect.

Difference Between Rap And Hip Hop
It should be of no surprise that the majority of rap music, new and old, includes lyrics that refer to
glorifying the use of illicit substances. Because rap and hip hop are the main types of music
listened to in the Black community, it should be noted that the music primarily affects this
demographic. The detrimental effects of the lyrics on the community can still be seen today. Rap
and hip hop have shaped the culture of the Black community significantly. The glorification of
different drugs in rap music across rap in the United States has significantly influenced the lifestyle
of the listeners. Rap and hip hop was originally created to foster creativity and artistic expression
in impoverished Black communities in New York. DJ Kool Hercwas the first individual to bring
rap to the forefront in New York. Rap was a way that young black individuals, especially men,
could come together in an inclusive and positive setting. Hip hop gave individuals a platform
and a safe space to express what was going on in their community. Rap is deeply rooted in the
Black community because of the historical context and importance it holds in the culture.
Unfortunately, the genre of rap and hip hop has evolved over time and the original meaning has
been demolished. Now the music is full of vulgar lyrics about sex, violence, and drugs. Sadly, the
adoration of drugs in the genre is a common source for all of the issues mentioned above.
One common theme that all rap music shares is the promotion

that God put on this earth. One of my favorite characteristics about this animal is there
big bushy cute tail. The ring tailed lemurs scientific family is Lemuridae.

lemurs live. We are destroying their habitat. Madagascar was a good home for lemurs
until now. Ring tailed lemurs are being protected now but it is difficult to enforce.
Ring tailed lemurs shelter in tropical forests to semi desert. They like to shelter
on ground or climbing in trees. Most lemurs only like climbing in trees. The ring tailed
lemur prefers to be on the ground.
Scientists classify lemurs along with humans, apes, and monkeys, as being
primates. Ring tailed lemurs really resemble monkeys, except lemurs have a pointy nose.
The ring tailed lemurs scientific name is Lemur catta. Here is the classification system
of the ring tailed lemur:
В· Kingdom: Animalia
В· Phylum: Chordata
В· Class: Mammalia
В· Order: Primates
В· Family: Lemuridae
В· Genus: Lemur
В· Species: Lemur catta
Lemurs arrived in Madagascar fifty thousand years ago, when the island
was closer to Africa. The first humans arrived 2000 to 1500 years ago. They
hunted at least 18 of the larger species of lemurs to extinction! Ring tailed lemurs
are threatened in Madagascar because of habitat loss due to fires, overgrazing by
livestock, and tree cutting for charcoal production growth.

Andrew Carnegie Contributions
Andrew Carnegie s Contributions to Society
Andrew Carnegie s gifting the means for better education to the public started advancing American
society. The libraries he funded helped the common man get educated, which in turn, helped society
get more knowledgeable. The charitable trusts that he created sought to better many aspects in
education. The institutes and colleges that he founded and granted money to were scientific
research based, which also helped to progress American society. Through Carnegie s gifts of
libraries, institutes and charities to the general public, American society started to improve.
Carnegie funded many libraries in the United States, which he believed would help for the
improvement of mankind. According to the Dictionary of American Biography by Charles
Scribner s Sons, he gifted sixty million dollars of his fortune to libraries in the United States.
The thought process behind this seemed to be that for society to develop further, there would
have to be more public access to knowledge. Carnegie thought that libraries would allow for a
more knowledgeable society. In his essay in The North American Review titled Wealth he states
that, In bestowing charity, the main consideration should be to help those who will help
themselves... This belief shows why Carnegie would want to fund libraries because it is a facility
where people can help themselves. He wanted libraries to be available to all people who wanted
more knowledge. If enough

W. E. B. Du Bois s Criticism Of Claude Mckay ´ S Home To...
Among the critical responses to Home to Harlem, W.E.B. Du Bois s criticism of Claude McKay s
text seemingly speaks from an essentialist perspective. Du Bois simply found that McKay s
representation of black culture within his novel reproduced stereotypical and crude images which
white audiences desired in the midst of the Harlem Renaissance. In response to Du Bois, McKay
argued that the novel was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of
Claude McKay s views, it could be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity
at all. Rather, Home to Harlem s perpetual mobility and movement invests in the idea of black
identity as production rather than as the exhibition of a collective one true self ... Show more content

Had Felice not offered up Chicago as a new place of residence, Jake would have wound up
exactly how he d started, having been thinking a gitting away from the stinking mess [of
Harlem], a place he d previously designated as home, to go on off to the sea again (McKay 322).
Throughout the text, Jake frequents a variety of unique places, from Harlem to Pittsburgh to
Brooklyn to the train in which he had taken [a] job on the railroad (McKay 125). McKay s
audience is privy to a plethora of details regarding Jake s rousing endeavors in every new
location he discovers. Home to Harlem s audience watches as that strange, elusive something in
Jake catches him and has him [roaming] away and wandering to some unknown new port,
caught ... by some romantic rhythm, color, face, passing through cabarets, saloons, speakeasies,
and so on; in short, the emphasis on Jake s travels is on his restlessness in his desire for
movement rather than a search for some inner truth he may hold (McKay 41). Thus, the
picaresque novel employment of the episodic form is vital for Home to Harlem as it allows for
the motif of movement to be used for its potential. Not only that, though, but it can easily be
inferred that Claude McKay designed his novel to be structured in such a way with a degree of
intentionality. For whatever reason, McKay understood that an episodic format was the best to
display Jake s story. Thus, his audience must

Legalization Of Same Sex Marriages
Legalization of Same Sex Marriages As a Muslim, in my opinion same sex marriage is not right
and same sex marriage should not be legalized. Out of this statement comes the question: what is
the purpose and meaning of marriage. Can we ever explain marriage in the context of a bond
between two males or two females. Can this relationship be called a Marriage ? Whether we
disguise this relationship with the label of marriage, does it become accepted into society as a
real marriage? Or are we fooling ourselves? Marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a
woman which defines many different aspects of a relationship. It is a complement between two
different and opposite types of humans. In the natural state of existence, traditional marriage is
meant to be between two people of the opposite sex. But for the past 20 years, the debate of the
legalization of marriage has uprooted many ideologies that once existed in traditional societies.
Society is now conforming to a different mentality and it is questioning the purity of marital
relations as cited in the Torah, in the Bible and in the Quran as well in ancient scripts from
civilizations of the past. Do we really believe that same sex marriages will be equal to
heterosexual marriage? Many people believe that marriage has two objectives; one is to procreate
and the other is to have intimate relations. In society a lot of people are opposed to same sex
marriages because in a traditional marriage the idea is that there is only

How Does Tennyson Use Language In The Charge Of The Light...
The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, written by Alfred Tennyson is a mГ©lange of
diverse elements. At heart, it is a free verse epic designed to memorialize the bravery of the six
hundred men who readily rode into the valley of Death under the aegis of patriotism. Tennyson
uses this poem not glorify the battle itself but, rather the soldiers who were an epitome of
obedience and valor in spite of the blunders made by their superiors.
In the first stanza, Tennyson, with his apt use of repetition and language, is able to offer the reader
a ringside seat to the action on the battlefield as the Light Brigade is ordered to charge into enemy
lines in the pursuit of guns. He quickly engages the reader by opening with: HALF a league, ...

They are not well equipped, yet they continue to fight. It is this due to demonstration of valiance
that All the world wonder d . The ambiguity in what exactly the people were perplexed about
were they perplexed by the soldiers bravery or by the fact that they were consciously sent to
fight a losing battle, gives the reader the freedom to use their imagination to explore the plethora
of emotions felt by the people back home at the time of this battle. The theme of inescapability
and inescapabilty are further established in the following line through strong diction: Plunged in
the battery smoke . The word plunged has connotations of helplessness, allowing the reader to
imagine the utter desperation experienced by the soldier as he is consumed by smoke. The sheer
horror of this image allows the reader to appreciate the soldier s bravery in such horrible times.
It is due to this valor that the soldiers seem to emerge victorious as suggested by the lines: Reel d
from the sabre stroke/ Shatter d and sunder d. However, the victory is not as joyous as the reader
would like to believe They rode back, but not/ Not the six hundred. The repetition of not is used to
ensure that the reader is painfully aware of the fact that not everyone survived. Only the lucky few

Currently, the part of bioethics that is most developed in Malaysia is that which relates to
biosafety which is governed by the Biosafety Act 2007 (hereinafter the 2007 Act ). This Act is
under the auspice of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE). However,
strangely the biotechnology industry is under the supervision of the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). As for the agriculture industry, the relevant ministry is the
Ministry of Agriculture, while the Ministry of Health is responsible for medical practices and
food products. The fact that different ministries are involved in governing issues in biotechnology
has led to not only the lack of coordination between them but also possible overlapping functions
in implementing the 2007 Act and its regulation. Apart from this, however, the provisions of the
2007 Act is rather vague on other bioethical issues. The 2007 Act which was gazetted in 2007,
generally provides for biosafety and addresses all Living Modified Organisms (LMOs). It is
interesting to note that Malaysia uses the term LMOs rather than GMOs and Malaysia has made a
declaration in the Convention of Biodiversity 1994 that the former term gives meaning to the latter.
The 2007 Act is envisaged to strike a rather difficult balance between the creation of a sustainable
biosafety on the one hand and the protection of

Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era
Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are
perfectly showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the
Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that
were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not,
showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most
books were targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own
works have extensive plots woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak
House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty
characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious
murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own
childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and
Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their eight children. As a child, the
family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental in Charles
life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were true, and thus stretched
his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a clerk in the

Ewe Genotypes
Genotype rather Than Non Genetic Behavioural Transmission Determines the Temperament of
Merino Lambs, is an article that poses the question of whether the genotype of a mother ewe, or
the environment of a lamb plays a larger part in the overall temperament the lamb develops. To
find the answer to this hypothesis, six experiments were conducted on the different lamb to ewe
demeanors. The four possible lamb to ewe combinations, include calm to calm (C C), calm to
nervous (C N), nervous to calm (N C), and N N (nervous to nervous). To further clarify, calm
refers to sheep who are calm, or untroubled when by themselves or around humans. By the same
token, nervous is used in reference to the fearful ways in which sheep act when they are either...

The arena test can be described by a pen full of the lamb s flock mates who are being guarded by
a motionless human (or an open field experiment used to isolate the lamb from the ewe and
study their demeanor). (1) Because of this, the test is determining whether the desire of a lamb
being with their flock mates, is stronger than avoiding the human. On the other hand, the
isolation box test is an experiment where the agitation of the lamb is observed, when they are
placed, alone, inside of a plywood box. Both of these studies share common behaviors of the
lamb, which include the tendency to bleat and jump, the number of times they jumped and
bleated, and the number of squares they crossed. From the data gathered from this table, it can
be seen that the number of behaviors performed between the non fostered C C and N N lambs
differ exponentially. An example of this distinction, is found in the number of bleats and
tendency to jump. For the non fostered C C pair, the lamb bleated 53.7 times, while the N N pair
lamb bleated an average of 88.6 times. Further, the C C pair lamb was found to jump 167 times,
while the N N pair only jumped an average of 16 times. This is such a drastic difference between
the two groups, which seems to negate the ideas that N N pair lambs are more agitated easier and
thus express these behaviors more frequently than the other pairs. After examining the table, a
pattern of behaviors cannot be found for any specific groups. This is true seeing as though one pair
does not constantly have more moments of reaction than each and every other pairing and in the
different categories. Due to this, an overall opinion of a lamb s temperament based on their
genotype, environment, and the experiments given, cannot be determined. Although there is not a
significant difference in which lambs were more content or nervous, it was

Is informed consent always necessary for randomized, controlled trials? The following sentences are
different scenarios that answer the question. Informed consent should not be waived unless the
treatment is offered inside and outside the trial. Treatment should not involve more than minimal
risk compared to alternatives. Genuine clinic must value the treatments the same. No reasonable
person should have a preference for one treatment or another (Truog et al. 1999). If the treatments
can be found in and outside of the trial, then you don t need the consent of the patient. For example,
a trial comparing a beta blocker with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor for treatment of
hypertension should not be approved for a waiver of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author states, Should specific informed consent be sought from a patient enrolled in the study?
If so, then what should be done if the patient chooses not to participate (Truog et al. 1999)? In this
scenario the patient does not give their consent to participate in the trial so the dilemma of what to
do with the patient rises. Should no data be collected on the patient or should they be moved out of
the program and if that happens, what was the point of having the trial in the first place? If you
have to collect informed consent from patients in the trial it is going to make the data polls smaller
and harder to collect. Genuine clinical treatments must exist in balance when weigh against one
another (Truog et al. 1999). That this is trying to explain is that when in a trial you cannot have a
treatment that has more risks or wait time compared to an alternative treatment. For example, if
treatment one has larger risks and a longer recovery time compared to treatment two, which has
fewer risks and a short recovery time, then the treatments are not balanced. In this example
treatment one and two have the same over all out come, but since treatments are not balanced the
patient must give informed consent before undergoing any treatment. If informed consent is not
collected, how well the patients know if they are getting the treatment in the trial that best suits their
wishes? The author states If the

Lake Placid Narrative
It was going to be an exciting and thrilling weekend in the Miracle Village. The Miracle village

Each time we crossed them we would get yelled and whistled at. We saw a rock that was

In Cold Blood Perry Quotes
In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, one of the two killers, Perry Smith, is presented to
be an emotional villain whose actions towards others reflects the way society has treated him. The
traumatic and broken childhood that Perry endured did not only leave him untrusting of others but
was a gateway to the dramatic and unpleasant life that Perry lived. Not only shown through his
criminal actions, but every aspect of Perry s life is negatively marked by his experiences,
illustrating the trainwreck that his life turned out to be.
Perry s complicated feelings towards society is shown through his treatment of the Clutters during
the home invasion. Perry s erratic treatment of the family, showing both kindness and ruthless
violence, puzzles the detectives on the case. This inconsistent behavior is a reflection of both the

It is vital for law enforcement to determine whether a search warrant, arrest warrant, or both is
needed. When an arrest is to take place within a dwelling where reasonable privacy is expected,
law enforcement must determine whether or not the prospective arrestee lives there. If the person
to be arrested lives there, only an arrest warrant is needed. If the dwelling belongs to a third party,
an arrest warrant and a search warrant is necessary. In order to comply with the Fourth Amendment
s protection of privacy, police must secure the appropriate warrant(s) and knock and announce their
presence.
There are three exceptions as to when officers do not need search or arrest warrants and/or

a)Consent: When asking permission to enter, consent may be voluntarily given to law enforcement,
as long as the person has authority to do so, e.g. the homeowner. Non residential landlords,

A Comparison Of The Glass Menagerie
While reading Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie , readers are drawn into the drama
and disaster that is the Wingfield family. There were several different film and television versions
of this play done thru the years from 1950 to 1987. After watching several different adaptations,
Paul Newman s film adaptation in 1987 is extremely faithful to the written version. Focusing on
plot, setting, and character development the audienceis introduced to a familywith an austere future
structured around a series of abandonments, difficulty accepting reality and the impossibility of
true escape. Both versions begin with a narrator looking back at the past and setting the stage for
what memories will follow. The story is told in hindsight by Tom. It begins with Laura and
Amanda waiting at the dining table for Tom to join them, so they can say grace and begin the meal,
showing the audience, the family is very close and depend on each other. Throughout, readers also
see constant conflict between the mother and children, but never conflict between the siblings. For
instance, when Williams writes after an argument between Tom and Amanda; AMANDA: I won t

Summary Of Characters In The Golden Compass
Alex de Castro Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ended up being the one who was
most reluctant toward the idea and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one
who thought of all the negatives of we don t need a dog. For the first few weeks he was in the
house, I did not like him. He knew it too. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog and
saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, he was different from the
rest. I find the same thing with myself in my family, not like the others most of the time, but both
of us are included and loved. Now, this dog and I are closer than any of my other family members

Gun Possession Laws In America
Weapons have evolved to become more sophisticated every century, especially guns. A gun is a
weapon that can shoot projectiles called bullets. There are many types of guns, such as the
hunting rifle, the hand pistol or a semi automatic pistol. Guns are also more efficient and effective
than knives or arrows, as a weapon since many can shoot from and to a far distance. Some are also
very compact. A guns use can vary from recreational hunting to committing a crime. Since guns
can be very dangerous at times, a licence must be obtained to own a gun. Some countries, such as
Canada, do require a full mental and background check before receiving a license. Some laws,
such as a trigger lock, requires all gun owners to lock and secure their guns... Show more content on

A study conducted with 201 parents and an equal number of their children found that 33 percent
of the children knew the location of the guns in the house, while 22 percent even handled the
weapons, despite their parent s contrary (Boodman). This study showed that even though
parents think their children do not know the locations of the firearms stored in the house, it is
not the case. Miller says, Age was not a factor in whether children had handled weapons. Five
year olds are just as likely to do what 14 year olds do. Even teaching kids to be safe around guns
doesn t work, declared Jon Vernick, This is probably the first time I ve heard that education is a
bad thing and not effective. (qtd. in Boodman) The issue of gun accessibility in homes widened
on May 8, 2006, when a delusional 18 year old, Matthew Kennedy, shot two Fairfax police officers
to death. He was armed with seven guns, including an AK 47 style assault rifle. Authorities said to
have found 15 other guns propped up against walls, and two others were loaded. The risks of guns
being in the hands of youths are being simply underestimated (Boodman). Two other incidents
include a 10 year old who unintentionally shot himself dead while attempting to find his soccer ball
and a 13 year old who shot himself with a semi automatic pistol. Miller states that parents should

Marx, Durkheim and Weber each had different sociological views of the role and function of

Durkheim s theories make sense and are for me a nice and fluffy way of looking at Religion, but
I have a feeling that if he were to see the route Religion has gone down in modern society would
he still feel the same about the majority of Religions, for example the scandal s in the Catholic
church over the past forty years that are only really surfacing now. And Weber s thoughts were
more rational as that what was expected of people was to keep their heads down and they would
eventually be rewarded with Heaven.
Even if in today s society more numbers are in decline of practicing religion, Marx s views on
the subject are definitely the most valid. There expectations of people may not be as extreme as
they were back in the 1800 s of their followers as they are now, but of the three, Marx s views are
the most realistic of what Religion truly is. His ability to see what religion was actually doing to
people s lives back then is remarkable and for his words to still have such relevance now in
modern society shows that he was extremely perceptive of society. Marxism also assumes that
Religion will eventually disappear and for someone to envisage that from over one hundred years
ago is clearly someone who knew what they were talking about. And that is why I chose Marx.

A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis
Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which
they live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A
Madman s Diary, by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the
narrator going to visit two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two
brothers has recently been cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the

In A Madman s Diary, the madman is the only one who is truly in touch with reality. He is the only
one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between
cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without
Lu Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the
society he is living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the
possibility of the nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children
who have not consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature
of this society of consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the
feudalistic society can change if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that
he has hope for the future of society. ...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope
that the future for the children of China will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun
conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China through the madman s hope in the story. The
madman is the only one who is truly aware of the problems of the society that they live in.
Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways of life. Metaphorically, this is
representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the feudal system, and that it
would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun uses the madman s
fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of

Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male

However, Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity

Autocratic leadership style: PiГ«ch and his successor Winterkorn both had an aggressive,

The Pros And Cons Of Poverty In The Non-Metro Area
Poverty rates among all citizens are highest in the extremely urban and truly rural areas of the
United States. However, poverty rates, as measured by the Department of Agriculture s
Economic Research Service, are higher in non metro areas as compared to metropolitan centers.
The demographics of poverty offer insight to public administrators and policy writers beyond the
demographics of simply rural versus metro areas. For example, in 2016 rural White citizens
were half as likely to live in poverty as either Black or Native American citizens. In addition, a
female head of household in a rural area is nearly eight times as likely to live in poverty as a
married couple. Couple these demographics with the fact that only 46 million citizens live in
nonmetro areas roughly 15% of the national population it is not surprising that rural areas seem
to receive less attention by federally elected officials than urban and suburban areas. At the
county level, poverty as defined by the US government is an immensely rural problem, with the
most remote rural places at the greatest disadvantage. It would seem obvious that where and how
an individual lives would matter in a person s ability to rise above the poverty level. However,
federal policy that addresses poverty is not specific to rural areas or metropolitan areas. Within the
context of all policy, rural areas are unique and policy makers ought to consider this when
addressing legislation to help citizens in these

Human Rights And Reproductive Rights Essay
The concept of human rights is a multifaceted one, thereby making it a frequent topic of debate on
a global scale. Furthermore, defining human rights is a complex and volatile issue that brings up

rights and to what extent can a person exercise these rights. These types of discussions can be
controversial despite most of us, especially in a liberal democracy, where we tend to view human

equality, another issue that affects nearly everyone through means of privilege or prejudice. A
crucial aspect of achieving equality between the sexes is giving women the right to control what
happens to their own reproductive organs without the approval of men. Lynn M. Morgan, medical
anthropologist scholar and author of Reproductive Rights or Reproductive Justice? Lessons from
Argentina seeks to address the discrepancy between a human rights framework versus a social
justice framework to tackle the issue of reproductive rights in Argentina. She initially addresses the
fact that using the human rights framework, often used in Argentina by pro choice activists, can be
problematic. As explained earlier, the concept of human rights is convoluted by its very nature.
Hence, Lynn Morgan argues that this issue should be addressed using a justice framework instead,
a typically US centric approach. It is clear

The Pros And Cons Of The Basel Accords
BAFI 1029
RISK MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT
S.VIGKNESH
S3532231
TOPIC 1
introduction
The Basel Accords is a set of regulations adhered by banks. The main goal was to help banks
maintain a minimum capital to sustain losses during a bad economy period. Also, to aid financial
institutions reduce risk while they grow and operate.
introduced in 2004, Basel II had an improved and stricter framework compared Basel I, yet
during the financial crisis it failed. The failure of Basel II regulations caused Basel III to be
created. Its purpose was to work along with Basel I and Basel III framework and regulation and
concurrently provide extra protection to banks during harsh periods by being more conservative.
subsequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, to keep the minimum liquidity, banks will reduce its lending services to its customers.
Both consumption and investment in the economy will be affected. GDP is the summation of
government expenditure, consumption, investment, and the difference between export and import.
If both consumption and investment are reduced, the GDP growth of an economy will be
negatively affected. In fact, a study in 2011 shows that the GDP growth would be decreased by
0.05% to 0.15% on a medium term basis.
Conclusion
In my opinion there will always be pros and cons in regulations as there is no perfect regulation.
In order to achieve higher security, growth must be sacrificed, vice versa. This is evident in the
change from Basel II to Basel III. Basel III too has its own flaws such as relying too much on
credit rating agencies. Credit rating agencies, as proven by the subprime crisis can cause errors in
their predictions. As times goes, there will be a significant change to the current regulation to
improve the flaws.
A good regulation should be able to be flexible. For instance, when the economy is safe and
flourishing, the regulation should be more relaxed and have decreased barriers for banks in terms
of the minimum requirement for capital reserves. And when the economy is floundering, a stricter
approach should be used. For example, the minimum requirements for requirement for capital
reserves should be increased.

Main Hermeneutical Strategies Used By Basil
One of the main hermeneutical strategies used by Basil in his work is confirm the oneness of the
triune God. While some of his heretical opponents insist that the triune Godhead is not fully
unified, Basil set the record straight by saying that according to the distinction of Persons, both are
one and one, and according to the community of Nature, one. Basil is not talking about two or three
different Gods, but of one single God, one that is not cloven in two, nor the glory divided, but
instead of a God that is triune in essence. The eternal generation of the Son, along with the eternal
precession of the Holy Spiritis essential to the doctrine of the triune God, and Basil asserts that
taking any part of this away from God is heresy. The Godhead can only rightly be described in its
triune form, as Holy Spirit is conjoined to the one Father through the one Son, and through Himself
completing the adorable and blessed Trinity.
One of Basil s greatest typological arguments is that the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father
throughout the canon of scripture. He asks the question, how can he who calls Scripture God
inspired, because it was written through the inspiration of the Spirit, use the language of one
who insults and belittles Him? That is to say, how can scripture that is inspired by the Holy
Spirit still be the living, breathing word of God? If people are to be called the temples of God
with the Spirit of God within them, how can this Holy Spirit be demoted to

Capitalism In Norris s Mcteague, By Frank Norris
In the reading, McTeague, by Frank Norris, a dentist named McTeague watches the day to day
lives of San Francisco s various laborers through the bay window of his Dental Parlor. McTeague
noticed that the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific
times of the day. Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is
inferred that the city has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norrisportrayed the city
as full of liveliness and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character
with humanlike characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First
and foremost, the chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is
shown as a continuous cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later,
following in the path of the day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry,
glancing apprehensively at the powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the
city is a busy area where countless things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock
that lets people know where they have to be and when. The powerhouse clock is a symbol of how
San Francisco has a biological clock similar to what humanshave. Norris writes that the street
wakes breakfasts and sleeps in order to show that the street is comparable to a living organism.

The Impact Of The European Union On The Common Security...
Many of the institutions within the European Union play a substantial role in formulating EU
foreign policy. The Common Security and Defense Policy, often referred to as the CSDP, was
created as a way for the EU member states to develop defense, military and crisis management
policies. The CSDP, which began as a Franco British initiative in 1998, was created as a major
component of the Common Security Foreign Policy of the European Union. In the years since its
inception, the CSDP has enabled the EU to gain power and become a world leader in the realm
of international security. Much of the common security and defense policy s success is due to
the capabilities and resources that are provided by the EU member states and world partners
such as NATO. As many of the European Union member states are members of both the CSDP
and NATO, the two organizations work side by side in order to accomplish Western security
goals. Britain had played a leading role in the EU common security and defense policy since it
was created. Since the vote in June 2016 to decide whether the British exit from the EU would
take place, many have wondered what Brexit would mean for the EU and its institutions. This
paper will examine and analyze the impact of Brexit on the EU Common Security and Defense
Policy. In order to truly understand how the UK s exit from the Union will impact the CSDP and
EU foreign relations, as a result of a change in the political landscape of the EU, one must first

Ray was majorly inspired by Nat King Cole, but his music was also influenced by country, jazz,
blues, and rhythm artists of the day, including Louis Jordan and Charles Brown. In the start of Ray
s musical career, Ray s style of music was very similar to these major influences.
Later on Ray drifted from this style and found his own sound/style.
Ray moved to Seattle at the age of 16, a year after his mother, Aretha, had died. In Seattle Ray met
Quincy Jones (American record producer and musician), a friend he kept for the rest of his life.
In the 1940s Ray performed with the McSon Trio. In 1949, he released his first single, Confession

The Prosecution Of Sexual Assault
The prosecution of sexual assault is unlike the prosecution of any other criminal offence. There an
intense focus on the character and motivation of the complainant. Traditionally, this focus has
translated into a preoccupation with aspects of the complainant s behavior which is not
immediately related to the circumstances of the offence. One example is whether the complainant
provided a recent complaint after the assault. This focus also results in an extraordinary interest in
the demonstration of proof of resistance by the complainant and the corresponding application of
force by the perpetrator, though neither is an element of the crime. A proper appreciation of the law

It is not mentioned in our conversations and that silence contributes to the continuation of domestic
and sexual violence. As early as the year 800, rape was a capital offense in Anglo Saxon England. In
1769, William Blackstone, the leading eighteenth century authority on common law in both
England and the colonies, defined common law rape as the carnal knowledge of a woman forcibly
and against her will (Samaha). The definition boiled down to four elements: Sexual intercourse by
force or a threat of severe bodily harm (actus reus). Intentional vaginal intercourse (mens rea).
Intercourse between a man and a woman who wasn t his wife (attendant circumstance). Intercourse
without the woman s consent (attendant circumstance). The common law required proof beyond a
reasonable doubt of all four elements. In the common law trials, rape victims were allowed to
testify against accused rapists; it was up to the jury to decide whether to believe them. But the
victim s credibility depended on three conditions, always difficult (and often impossible) to satisfy:
Her chastity, whether she promptly reported the rape, whether other witnesses corroborated the
rape (womanslawproject.org). By the 1970s and 1980s was a time of major reform of sex offense
laws. First, states changed rape prosecution procedures that had been in effect since the 1600s.
Many states abolished the corroboration rule that required the

The Country Club College- Inhibition of Eudaimonia
The Country Club College Inhibition of Eudaimonia Adding food coloring to drinking water will
not enhance its nutritional value. Also, an emphasis on enhancing the coloring, at the cost of clean
water, will degrade the function of water to provide nourishment. This same logic applies to
education. In articles written by the New York Times, Inside Higher Ed, and Brookings, colleges
across the country are spending increasing dollars on recreational facilities and administration than
on its academics. According to Aristotle, these actions will stifle the very purpose of education, to
create an informed citizenry, and degrade the quality of society. As a consequence, these
ornamentations to recreation is immoral and immoderate (a vice). This... Show more content on

According to an NMBER paper, most college students placed more value on amenities and high
levels of consumption than instruction ( Consumption Amenities in Higher Education ). This
deliberate sacrifice of academia by students for the country club will only fuel the drive for excess
spending on pleasure to attract potential students. Scott Jaschik s article details this agenda. The
Customer Is Always Right? described the race for amenities as the consequence of student spending
choices. In a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, four year colleges searching for a
way to attract a majority of potential students will invest in consumption preferences. By spending
more of the budget in amenities (student services and activities, athletics, facilities), colleges would
meet the high value students place on these categories. Since academic support and instruction
(libraries, museums, course costs) was only favored by students competing for highly competitive
institutions, the vast majority of four year colleges would not increase academic investment. The
cost of appealing the masses would be degrading academic quality ( Many Students Opt for
Colleges That Spend More on Nonacademic Functions, Study Finds | Inside Higher Ed ). The
metamorphosis of academic institutions to amenity centers affects both the students and society as
a whole. According to Aristotle, proper education leads to the formation of well ruling leaders

Hunger Is An Ugly Side Effect Of Poverty Essay
Introduction Hunger is a current social issue that plays a role in many American families who
are living in poverty. Although poverty is a major issue in its own category, hunger is an ugly
side effect of poverty. Living in poverty has long term negative impacts on the overall well being
of children. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor
people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare
susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity.
Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally
adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable
means (Siefert, K. (2008). White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian families in the United States are all
faced with hunger. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety,
developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing
hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the
USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008).
Children that are faced with food insecurities may have trouble cognitively and physically in
school. To help in end hunger in schools, programs like The National Lunch Program and The
School Breakfast Program was developed. There are a number of immediate, as

The Use Of Glyphosate And Its Effects On The Environment...
The 1990 s ushered in more than Gameboys and a Nebraska Florida State college football
rivalry. It was also a mad scientists delight with the introduction of Dolly, a cloned sheep, and
genetic engineering of food. Hoping to create a powerful agricultural tool, chemical companies
set out to rearrange the building blocks of life and came back with genetically modified (GM)
crop varieties that resist herbicide applications and produce insecticide during the growing
process. Whether you are for, against, or indifferent to GM ingredients in your food, consumers
should be informed on the questionable practices behind growing GM crops and they have a
right to know what they are eating through food labeling. GM crops have been touted by their
makers to actually reduce the amount of herbicides that are needed to spray on crop fields to
control weeds. This is great news for the environment and humans alike, right? This claim,
however, appears to not be the truth. As resistant weeds have emerged on the battle field, the use
of glyphosate, a main ingredient in the most widely used herbicide, continues to climb yearly as
outlined by the USDA. Currently over 100 million pounds of glyphosate is being used on crop
fields throughout the United States and that is just one of the many approved herbicides. Farmers
are battling super weeds with more glyphosate and even applying a secondary herbicide to regain
control on their fields. As this battle rages on, bee colonies are collapsing,

The beginning of economic hardship started after World War I, Kaiser William I, the German ruler
fled to Holland. In his place was the democracy of Germany, they were known as the Weimar
Republic. The Weimar Republic was blamed for the failure of World War 1, due to signing the
Treaty of Versailleson the 29th of June 1919 (BBC, 2014). This led to the Great Depression.
Prior to the Great Depression Germany was doing well, it was the most powerful industry. This is
the main reason for the anger and hatred within the German society, they were use to power and a
stable economy. The German economy relied heavily on America, without this it caused a mass of
unemployment and 744 banks failed (livinghistoryfarm, 2003). This led to poverty within
Germany with the unemployed increased to six million (Mason, J., 2003). This had an impact on
different groups within society. Children feared of leaving school unemployed with no jobs, while
anxiety and embitterment grew in the minds of the Germans (Swinton, J., 1995). Farmers were
also greatly impacted, they were unable to sell or produce stock which meant no money or food in
Germany. The Great Depression impacted Germany politely and socially, many were upset about

The And The War For America
Often when we speak of the struggle for America we think of the Revolutionary War, or even of
the Civil War. We reminisce of tales of bravado and of cunning, of George Washington and our
country s forefathers leading the revolution against the British and of pursuing the dream of a
nation free from tyranny. But often the tyranny that this new nation itself took part in is largely
glossed over. It is largely accepted that America unfairly pushed out the Native Americans from
their homelands, but the means in which they did so was crueler than the British tyranny that we
rebelled against. In Colin Calloway s The Shawnees and the War for America, we learn of a
different struggle for America, we learn of the plight of the Native Americans... Show more content

The Indians viewed their land much differently than the colonists did. The colonists came over
from Europe and as such has no roots or historical attachment to the land. They only viewed it in
terms of its economic potential (Calloway 24). The Indians, however, did have deep roots, they
did have a historical attachment to the land. But it was much more than that. The Shawnees, as
well as several other Indian tribes, believed that the land they existed on was an island. They
believed that it was placed there by the Great Spirit and that the Shawnees were a chosen people.
They believed that the Great Spirit recreated the world following a flood and chose the Shawnee
people as the first people to reintroduce to the world, to this piece of land (Calloway 34). So, the
colonists (which at this time encompassed the British, the French, and the American colonists)
viewed this land simply in terms of money and ownership, but the Shawnees viewed it as their
God given right and possessed a spiritual connection to the land. Indian populations in the Ohio
region learned to play the British and the French off one another. But eventually the two powers
declared war and both looked to the Indians for alliances. Indian populations in Ohio weren t
particularly loyal to either the British or the French, they only wished to keep their sacred land free
from European possession. Most tribes believed that siding

  • 2. Essay on Influences and Reality Influences and Reality As adults do we tend to read the styles we ve grown up with? Do we find ourselves subscribing to and reaching for magazines in the checkout line that our parents read? I do. As I become more independent I see subtle changes in the styles around me but find myself grounded in what my parents, my brothers and my environment have familiarized me with. Strewn around me are volumes of Outdoor Life , Prevention , Better Homes and Gardens , Midwest Living , Vogue and Masonry Construction. A magazine to satisfy many interests, each containing pieces of my life. You will not find Time or Forbes in my hands unless I have research to do in them for school. I am not familiar with politics, big business or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A great influence on the styles around me is attributed to where I live and intend to live. The first magazines I looked at as a child were Masonry Construction and Popular Mechanics because that is what my dad read. When my family moved up north to a resort from the Twin Cities suddenly my world at the age of six was changed and I loved it. I think I was too young to fully appreciate styles of writing at age six but as I got older I saw my way of life in other magazines such as Country Living. A conservative, country life; simple and surrounded by beauty. Country Living and Better Homes and Gardens have a small town, country style. The articles and information given have conversational tones, a sense that something is sincere and shared. Recipes are often given with a story to introduce their significance, perhaps a family memory; not just jotted down for another to copy. The writing involves me. I think What a great memory and as I look on I see that I could make the same dish with ease. I enjoy stories about other rural peoples lives and how they cope with weeds in their vegetable garden or how they added a porch to their home and now enjoy Eavesdropping on a wren s refrain and watching a game of squirrel tag in the treetops (Nolan 90). The style is family and nature oriented and aesthetic. Midwest Living sparks my interest because of my life on the resort. Articles address ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

YOUR NAME: Daniel Nieto READING (give authors of readings): Grossman, Rai, Leshan 1. Summarize the central themes, theses, issues, or arguments of the reading assignment. All three articles discuss the central issue of what motivates someone to commit a violent act or kill another person. They do this in slightly different ways, and with different context having both Grossman and Leshan discuss violence in the context of war. Grossmans discuss the topics in multifaceted approach and brings up several different reasons why specifically someone would be willing to kill someone such as emotional, cultural, moral, social, and mechanical distance. Leshan mainly discussed the idea that there is a change in the perception of reality during war time which justifies the killing of other people. Finally, is Rai who states and argues that morality is the main motivation the drives people to commit violent acts against others 2. Summarize at least four key points made by the authors. In the case of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leshan has two points the first point is that there are two realities one during peace time and one during war times, and it s the shift from what he calls the sensory world of peace time and the mythical time of war that allows us to mentally adjust to the justification that the killing of the enemy is done because they are mythical, demonic, or total evil. This shift is also characterized by a shift in how various things are perceived based on the examples Leshan uses to demonstrate the differences between war time in which the topics discussed become very dichotomous and extreme. • 4. Essay On The Army I knew you would screw up something... It always happens, and always a different way... but this situation looks very serious... Where are the rest of the guys? Major looked at me questionably and Dusko also looked at me but with the horror in his eyes. To me, it was funny how their looks were different, reflecting their totally different positions at that moment. It would be much nicer to watch this entire situation as a movie from some good seats. But, it was not a time for analyzing their minds, no matter how much alcohol I had in my system. I let them home for the New Year celebration... they will be here in the morning finally I said clearly and relaxed, like talking about something very simple move. You let the whole unit... Both of them were now smoking and the room was full of thick smoke. But, I did not come all this way here to control you. It s not my duty, there are few our captains and lieutenants in charge of controlling of all our units. But, something happened... One of our captains from command was playing with the grenade during the New Year celebration, just a few hours ago. He was teasing some other people who would hold the grenade for the longest period without security pin... And somehow... who knows how the grenade exploded in his hand... I was called immediately and rushed to the hospital to see him... And there was not much to see... The doctors are still fighting for his life... Why he did that? Dusko was not aware how his question was stupid, but it was maybe the only question you could ask in that moment. He was one of our officers who came back from the war... from Vukovar. The name Vukovar itself was enough to explain everything. Military and paramilitary operations there went off too much for any normal mind. • 5. Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Environment Overpopulation is often Times argued as one of the most severe, if not the most severe, environmental problem. This past year world population exceeded 7.3 billion and continues to grow at an alarming rate. By the year 2050 it is projected that world population will exceed over nine billion. Overpopulation puts a serious strain on the world and its resources and is a root cause of many environmental issues. Issues such as, climate change, diminishing biodiversity, and pollution, are all just some of the problems caused by overpopulation. In order to control the rapid population growthit is imperative that countries begin to further educate their citizens in family planning and responsible resource consumption. Paul Ehrlich, an American scientist and a former professor of population studies at Stanford University, states that For an area to be considered overpopulated; its population reaches a point where it can t be maintained without rapidly depleting nonrenewable resources (or converting renewable resources into nonrenewable ones) and without degrading the capacity of the environment to support the population. (Caion Demaestri) Studies suggest that when it comes to our consumption of the earth s resources, society is living beyond its means (Dimick.) Without natural resources, life on earth does not exist and at the rate that the earth s human population is growing, resources are running out faster than most are aware of. • 6. Summary Of Saboteur By Ha Jin Ha Jin s short story Saboteur tells of a man who seems discontent, idealistic, and gravely ill. In Muji, Mr. Chui, is accused of sabotage and taken by force to jail after a run in with railroad authorities. His crime is for speaking out against police officers assaulting him and his bride during lunch in the city square. The reader is lead to believe this is a simple case of excessive force by the police, therefore the abuse of power is the catalyst of this short story, but the real story is about Mr. Chui s contempt for all those around him and his utter lack of integrity. Mr. Chui is thirty four, a lecturer at Harbin University, is gaunt, pale, and still recuperating from hepatitis. His bride, a pale girl who wears glasses, is a ... Monday morning his bride sends a former student of Mr. Chui, Fenji, a lawyer from a small firm of two attorneys to get him out of jail. The young man confronts and insults the chief, who sends him to the yard in the heat to learn some manners. Mr. Chui sees Fenji from his window and feels nauseous Poor devil, he thought, as he raised a bowl of corn glue to his mouth (Jin). He realizes he has to sign the confession to get them out of jail. After signing, Mr. Chui is so sick he can barely walk (Jin), if he were able to he would razed the entire police station and eliminated all their families (Jin). Once outside, Mr. Chui and Fenji, begin to walk around the station stopping at several restaurants to eat and drink small amounts of food. Fenji watch his teacher mutter to himself and and for the first time Fenji thought of Mr. Chui as an ugly man. (Jin). Muji City, a month later, has an outbreak of hepatitis. • 7. The Crossover Utility Vehicle Or Suv Segment Is Booming The subcompact crossover utility vehicle or SUV segment is booming, due to a slew of new products introduced within months of each other this year. The segment is not new, but it does demonstrate that consumers have an insatiable appetite for all things SUV. As a result, manufacturers are looking for ways to gratify that demand. We saw our first subcompact SUVs in the 1990s in both the first generation Kia Sportage and the Chevrolet Tracker. Those vehicles either grew in proportions or were replaced by larger models to reflect consumer interest in spacious SUVs. Demand for compact models such as the Honda CR V, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, and the Toyota RAV4 seemed to indicate that larger was better. But interest in vehicles such as the... The 2016 Fiat 500X is sold in Pop ($20,000), Easy ($22,300), Trekking ($23,100), Lounge ($24,850) and Trekking Plus ($27,100) editions. Except for the Pop, all wheel drive can be had across the model line, adding $1,900 to the corresponding model line. The base Pop gives shoppers a choice of a normally aspirated 2.4 liter four cylinder engine (180 horsepower and 175 foot pounds of torque) paired with a nine speed automatic transmission or a turbocharged 1.4 liter four cylinder engine (160 horsepower and 184 foot pounds of torque) paired with a six speed manual transmission. My test model came with the larger engine and the automatic transmission. It was my third go round with the nine gear slush box, with Chrysler 200S and Jeep Cherokee models similarly outfitted. So before I go cover all the nuances of the new SUV, allow me to give you the skinny on the driving aspect. The larger four is suitable for the 500X. The transmission takes some getting used to and even then there were times I could feel it hunting for a gear. This model also offers three driving modes: normal, sport and weather. • 8. Difference Between Rap And Hip Hop It should be of no surprise that the majority of rap music, new and old, includes lyrics that refer to glorifying the use of illicit substances. Because rap and hip hop are the main types of music listened to in the Black community, it should be noted that the music primarily affects this demographic. The detrimental effects of the lyrics on the community can still be seen today. Rap and hip hop have shaped the culture of the Black community significantly. The glorification of different drugs in rap music across rap in the United States has significantly influenced the lifestyle of the listeners. Rap and hip hop was originally created to foster creativity and artistic expression in impoverished Black communities in New York. DJ Kool Hercwas the first individual to bring rap to the forefront in New York. Rap was a way that young black individuals, especially men, could come together in an inclusive and positive setting. Hip hop gave individuals a platform and a safe space to express what was going on in their community. Rap is deeply rooted in the Black community because of the historical context and importance it holds in the culture. Unfortunately, the genre of rap and hip hop has evolved over time and the original meaning has been demolished. Now the music is full of vulgar lyrics about sex, violence, and drugs. Sadly, the adoration of drugs in the genre is a common source for all of the issues mentioned above. One common theme that all rap music shares is the promotion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The libraries he funded helped the common man get educated, which in turn, helped society get more knowledgeable. The charitable trusts that he created sought to better many aspects in education. The institutes and colleges that he founded and granted money to were scientific research based, which also helped to progress American society. Through Carnegie s gifts of libraries, institutes and charities to the general public, American society started to improve. Carnegie funded many libraries in the United States, which he believed would help for the improvement of mankind. According to the Dictionary of American Biography by Charles Scribner s Sons, he gifted sixty million dollars of his fortune to libraries in the United States. The thought process behind this seemed to be that for society to develop further, there would have to be more public access to knowledge. Carnegie thought that libraries would allow for a more knowledgeable society. In his essay in The North American Review titled Wealth he states that, In bestowing charity, the main consideration should be to help those who will help themselves... Du Bois s criticism of Claude McKay s text seemingly speaks from an essentialist perspective. Du Bois simply found that McKay s representation of black culture within his novel reproduced stereotypical and crude images which white audiences desired in the midst of the Harlem Renaissance. In response to Du Bois, McKay argued that the novel was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of Claude McKay s views, it could be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity at all. Rather, Home to Harlem s perpetual mobility and movement invests in the idea of black identity as production rather than as the exhibition of a collective one true self ... Thus, the picaresque novel employment of the episodic form is vital for Home to Harlem as it allows for the motif of movement to be used for its potential. Not only that, though, but it can easily be inferred that Claude McKay designed his novel to be structured in such a way with a degree of intentionality. For whatever reason, McKay understood that an episodic format was the best to display Jake s story. Thus, his audience must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Legalization Of Same Sex Marriages Legalization of Same Sex Marriages As a Muslim, in my opinion same sex marriage is not right and same sex marriage should not be legalized. Out of this statement comes the question: what is the purpose and meaning of marriage. Can we ever explain marriage in the context of a bond between two males or two females. Can this relationship be called a Marriage ? Whether we disguise this relationship with the label of marriage, does it become accepted into society as a real marriage? Or are we fooling ourselves? Marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman which defines many different aspects of a relationship. It is a complement between two different and opposite types of humans. In the natural state of existence, traditional marriage is meant to be between two people of the opposite sex. But for the past 20 years, the debate of the legalization of marriage has uprooted many ideologies that once existed in traditional societies. Society is now conforming to a different mentality and it is questioning the purity of marital relations as cited in the Torah, in the Bible and in the Quran as well in ancient scripts from civilizations of the past. Do we really believe that same sex marriages will be equal to heterosexual marriage? Many people believe that marriage has two objectives; one is to procreate and the other is to have intimate relations. In society a lot of people are opposed to same sex marriages because in a traditional marriage the idea is that there is only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At heart, it is a free verse epic designed to memorialize the bravery of the six hundred men who readily rode into the valley of Death under the aegis of patriotism. Tennyson uses this poem not glorify the battle itself but, rather the soldiers who were an epitome of obedience and valor in spite of the blunders made by their superiors. In the first stanza, Tennyson, with his apt use of repetition and language, is able to offer the reader a ringside seat to the action on the battlefield as the Light Brigade is ordered to charge into enemy lines in the pursuit of guns. Currently, the part of bioethics that is most developed in Malaysia is that which relates to biosafety which is governed by the Biosafety Act 2007 (hereinafter the 2007 Act ). This Act is under the auspice of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE). However, strangely the biotechnology industry is under the supervision of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). As for the agriculture industry, the relevant ministry is the Ministry of Agriculture, while the Ministry of Health is responsible for medical practices and food products. The fact that different ministries are involved in governing issues in biotechnology has led to not only the lack of coordination between them but also possible overlapping functions in implementing the 2007 Act and its regulation. Apart from this, however, the provisions of the 2007 Act is rather vague on other bioethical issues. The 2007 Act which was gazetted in 2007, generally provides for biosafety and addresses all Living Modified Organisms (LMOs). It is interesting to note that Malaysia uses the term LMOs rather than GMOs and Malaysia has made a declaration in the Convention of Biodiversity 1994 that the former term gives meaning to the latter. Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental in Charles life. Ewe Genotypes Genotype rather Than Non Genetic Behavioural Transmission Determines the Temperament of Merino Lambs, is an article that poses the question of whether the genotype of a mother ewe, or the environment of a lamb plays a larger part in the overall temperament the lamb develops. To find the answer to this hypothesis, six experiments were conducted on the different lamb to ewe demeanors. The four possible lamb to ewe combinations, include calm to calm (C C), calm to nervous (C N), nervous to calm (N C), and N N (nervous to nervous). The arena test can be described by a pen full of the lamb s flock mates who are being guarded by a motionless human (or an open field experiment used to isolate the lamb from the ewe and study their demeanor). (1) Because of this, the test is determining whether the desire of a lamb being with their flock mates, is stronger than avoiding the human. On the other hand, the isolation box test is an experiment where the agitation of the lamb is observed, when they are placed, alone, inside of a plywood box. Both of these studies share common behaviors of the lamb, which include the tendency to bleat and jump, the number of times they jumped and bleated, and the number of squares they crossed. From the data gathered from this table, it can be seen that the number of behaviors performed between the non fostered C C and N N lambs differ exponentially. An example of this distinction, is found in the number of bleats and tendency to jump. For the non fostered C C pair, the lamb bleated 53.7 times, while the N N pair lamb bleated an average of 88.6 times. Further, the C C pair lamb was found to jump 167 times, while the N N pair only jumped an average of 16 times. This is such a drastic difference between the two groups, which seems to negate the ideas that N N pair lambs are more agitated easier and thus express these behaviors more frequently than the other pairs. After examining the table, a pattern of behaviors cannot be found for any specific groups. This is true seeing as though one pair does not constantly have more moments of reaction than each and every other pairing and in the different categories. Due to this, an overall opinion of a lamb s temperament based on their genotype, environment, and the experiments given, cannot be determined. Although there is not a significant difference in which lambs were more content or nervous, it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should no data be collected on the patient or should they be moved out of the program and if that happens, what was the point of having the trial in the first place? If you have to collect informed consent from patients in the trial it is going to make the data polls smaller and harder to collect. Genuine clinical treatments must exist in balance when weigh against one another (Truog et al. 1999). That this is trying to explain is that when in a trial you cannot have a treatment that has more risks or wait time compared to an alternative treatment. For example, if treatment one has larger risks and a longer recovery time compared to treatment two, which has fewer risks and a short recovery time, then the treatments are not balanced. In this example treatment one and two have the same over all out come, but since treatments are not balanced the patient must give informed consent before undergoing any treatment. There were several different film and television versions of this play done thru the years from 1950 to 1987. After watching several different adaptations, Paul Newman s film adaptation in 1987 is extremely faithful to the written version. Focusing on plot, setting, and character development the audienceis introduced to a familywith an austere future structured around a series of abandonments, difficulty accepting reality and the impossibility of true escape. Both versions begin with a narrator looking back at the past and setting the stage for what memories will follow. The story is told in hindsight by Tom. It begins with Laura and Amanda waiting at the dining table for Tom to join them, so they can say grace and begin the meal, showing the audience, the family is very close and depend on each other. • 30. Summary Of Characters In The Golden Compass Alex de Castro Three years ago, my family adopted a dog. I ended up being the one who was most reluctant toward the idea and still was even after he had entered our family. I was the one who thought of all the negatives of we don t need a dog. For the first few weeks he was in the house, I did not like him. He knew it too. Over time, I started to relate and bond with this dog and saw how he was different, he did not act like a normal dog of his breed, he was different from the rest. I find the same thing with myself in my family, not like the others most of the time, but both of us are included and loved. Now, this dog and I are closer than any of my other family members are with him. In the novel The Golden Compass, the author Philip Pullmandevelops a similar type of relationship for each of his characters called daemons. These companions reflect a certain person s identity, soul, and changes in feeling through their different forms, usually as animals. I am being considered for Mr. Pullman s next novel and he has asked me to develop daemons of my own for the next book in his series. After a few days of thinking I have decided on three animals that would be a great representation of me in daemon form, an owl, a lemur, and a butterfly. Throughout my academic career, I have tended to be a good student who got excellent in elementary school and straight A s in middle school. • 31. Gun Possession Laws In America Weapons have evolved to become more sophisticated every century, especially guns. A gun is a weapon that can shoot projectiles called bullets. There are many types of guns, such as the hunting rifle, the hand pistol or a semi automatic pistol. Guns are also more efficient and effective than knives or arrows, as a weapon since many can shoot from and to a far distance. Some are also very compact. A guns use can vary from recreational hunting to committing a crime. Since guns can be very dangerous at times, a licence must be obtained to own a gun. And Weber s thoughts were more rational as that what was expected of people was to keep their heads down and they would eventually be rewarded with Heaven. Even if in today s society more numbers are in decline of practicing religion, Marx s views on the subject are definitely the most valid. There expectations of people may not be as extreme as they were back in the 1800 s of their followers as they are now, but of the three, Marx s views are the most realistic of what Religion truly is. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary, by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. However, poverty rates, as measured by the Department of Agriculture s Economic Research Service, are higher in non metro areas as compared to metropolitan centers. The demographics of poverty offer insight to public administrators and policy writers beyond the demographics of simply rural versus metro areas. For example, in 2016 rural White citizens were half as likely to live in poverty as either Black or Native American citizens. In addition, a female head of household in a rural area is nearly eight times as likely to live in poverty as a married couple. Couple these demographics with the fact that only 46 million citizens live in nonmetro areas roughly 15% of the national population it is not surprising that rural areas seem to receive less attention by federally elected officials than urban and suburban areas. At the county level, poverty as defined by the US government is an immensely rural problem, with the most remote rural places at the greatest disadvantage. It would seem obvious that where and how an individual lives would matter in a person s ability to rise above the poverty level. • 38. Human Rights And Reproductive Rights Essay The concept of human rights is a multifaceted one, thereby making it a frequent topic of debate on a global scale. Furthermore, defining human rights is a complex and volatile issue that brings up many crucial discussions such as, what it means to have rights , who deserves these suggested rights and to what extent can a person exercise these rights. These types of discussions can be controversial despite most of us, especially in a liberal democracy, where we tend to view human rightsin a similar manner. When examining human rights even further, there are clear ties to equality, another issue that affects nearly everyone through means of privilege or prejudice. A crucial aspect of achieving equality between the sexes is giving women the right to control what happens to their own reproductive organs without the approval of men. Lynn M. Morgan, medical anthropologist scholar and author of Reproductive Rights or Reproductive Justice? Lessons from Argentina seeks to address the discrepancy between a human rights framework versus a social justice framework to tackle the issue of reproductive rights in Argentina. She initially addresses the fact that using the human rights framework, often used in Argentina by pro choice activists, can be problematic. As explained earlier, the concept of human rights is convoluted by its very nature. Hence, Lynn Morgan argues that this issue should be addressed using a justice framework instead, a typically US centric approach. It is clear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main goal was to help banks maintain a minimum capital to sustain losses during a bad economy period. Also, to aid financial institutions reduce risk while they grow and operate. introduced in 2004, Basel II had an improved and stricter framework compared Basel I, yet during the financial crisis it failed. The failure of Basel II regulations caused Basel III to be created. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, to keep the minimum liquidity, banks will reduce its lending services to its customers. Both consumption and investment in the economy will be affected. GDP is the summation of government expenditure, consumption, investment, and the difference between export and import. If both consumption and investment are reduced, the GDP growth of an economy will be negatively affected. In fact, a study in 2011 shows that the GDP growth would be decreased by 0.05% to 0.15% on a medium term basis. Conclusion In my opinion there will always be pros and cons in regulations as there is no perfect regulation. In order to achieve higher security, growth must be sacrificed, vice versa. This is evident in the change from Basel II to Basel III. Basel III too has its own flaws such as relying too much on credit rating agencies. Credit rating agencies, as proven by the subprime crisis can cause errors in their predictions. As times goes, there will be a significant change to the current regulation to improve the flaws. A good regulation should be able to be flexible. For instance, when the economy is safe and flourishing, the regulation should be more relaxed and have decreased barriers for banks in terms of the minimum requirement for capital reserves. And when the economy is floundering, a stricter approach should be used. For example, the minimum requirements for requirement for capital reserves should be increased.

While some of his heretical opponents insist that the triune Godhead is not fully unified, Basil set the record straight by saying that according to the distinction of Persons, both are one and one, and according to the community of Nature, one. Basil is not talking about two or three different Gods, but of one single God, one that is not cloven in two, nor the glory divided, but instead of a God that is triune in essence. The eternal generation of the Son, along with the eternal precession of the Holy Spiritis essential to the doctrine of the triune God, and Basil asserts that taking any part of this away from God is heresy. The Godhead can only rightly be described in its triune form, as Holy Spirit is conjoined to the one Father through the one Son, and through Himself completing the adorable and blessed Trinity. One of Basil s greatest typological arguments is that the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father throughout the canon of scripture. He asks the question, how can he who calls Scripture God inspired, because it was written through the inspiration of the Spirit, use the language of one who insults and belittles Him? The CSDP, which began as a Franco British initiative in 1998, was created as a major component of the Common Security Foreign Policy of the European Union. Morales, Sheaford, and Scott (2007) stated, hunger has an immediate impact on poor people because it represents a threat to one s very survival (p. 368). Children living in povertyare susceptible to enduring a level of hunger known as foodinsecurity. Food insecurity was defined as the limited or uncertain availability of foods that are nutritionally adequate and safe, or limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable foods by socially acceptable means (Siefert, K. (2008). White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian families in the United States are all faced with hunger. Thus, this may lead to many problems such as: poor nutrition, anxiety, developmental and psychosocial issues, depression, and chronic diseases. In effort to reducing hunger in America, federal food programs were constructed. The Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA administers 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs (WHY, 2008). Children that are faced with food insecurities may have trouble cognitively and physically in school. To help in end hunger in schools, programs like The National Lunch Program and The School Breakfast Program was developed. There are a number of immediate, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Use Of Glyphosate And Its Effects On The Environment... The 1990 s ushered in more than Gameboys and a Nebraska Florida State college football rivalry. It was also a mad scientists delight with the introduction of Dolly, a cloned sheep, and genetic engineering of food. Hoping to create a powerful agricultural tool, chemical companies set out to rearrange the building blocks of life and came back with genetically modified (GM) crop varieties that resist herbicide applications and produce insecticide during the growing process. Whether you are for, against, or indifferent to GM ingredients in your food, consumers should be informed on the questionable practices behind growing GM crops and they have a right to know what they are eating through food labeling. GM crops have been touted by their makers to actually reduce the amount of herbicides that are needed to spray on crop fields to control weeds. This is great news for the environment and humans alike, right? This claim, however, appears to not be the truth. As resistant weeds have emerged on the battle field, the use of glyphosate, a main ingredient in the most widely used herbicide, continues to climb yearly as outlined by the USDA. Currently over 100 million pounds of glyphosate is being used on crop fields throughout the United States and that is just one of the many approved herbicides. Farmers are battling super weeds with more glyphosate and even applying a secondary herbicide to regain control on their fields. As this battle rages on, bee colonies are collapsing, ... The beginning of economic hardship started after World War I, Kaiser William I, the German ruler fled to Holland. In his place was the democracy of Germany, they were known as the Weimar Republic. The Weimar Republic was blamed for the failure of World War 1, due to signing the Treaty of Versailleson the 29th of June 1919 (BBC, 2014). This led to the Great Depression. Prior to the Great Depression Germany was doing well, it was the most powerful industry. This is the main reason for the anger and hatred within the German society, they were use to power and a stable economy. The German economy relied heavily on America, without this it caused a mass of unemployment and 744 banks failed (livinghistoryfarm, 2003). This led to poverty within Germany with the unemployed increased to six million (Mason, J., 2003). This had an impact on different groups within society. Children feared of leaving school unemployed with no jobs, while anxiety and embitterment grew in the minds of the Germans (Swinton, J., 1995). • 55. The And The War For America Often when we speak of the struggle for America we think of the Revolutionary War, or even of the Civil War. We reminisce of tales of bravado and of cunning, of George Washington and our country s forefathers leading the revolution against the British and of pursuing the dream of a nation free from tyranny. But often the tyranny that this new nation itself took part in is largely glossed over. It is largely accepted that America unfairly pushed out the Native Americans from their homelands, but the means in which they did so was crueler than the British tyranny that we rebelled against. In Colin Calloway s The Shawnees and the War for America, we learn of a different struggle for America, we learn of the plight of the Native Americans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians viewed their land much differently than the colonists did. The colonists came over from Europe and as such has no roots or historical attachment to the land. They only viewed it in terms of its economic potential (Calloway 24). The Indians, however, did have deep roots, they did have a historical attachment to the land. But it was much more than that. The Shawnees, as well as several other Indian tribes, believed that the land they existed on was an island. They believed that it was placed there by the Great Spirit and that the Shawnees were a chosen people. They believed that the Great Spirit recreated the world following a flood and chose the Shawnee people as the first people to reintroduce to the world, to this piece of land (Calloway 34). So, the colonists (which at this time encompassed the British, the French, and the American colonists) viewed this land simply in terms of money and ownership, but the Shawnees viewed it as their God given right and possessed a spiritual connection to the land. Indian populations in the Ohio region learned to play the British and the French off one another. But eventually the two powers declared war and both looked to the Indians for alliances. Indian populations in Ohio weren t particularly loyal to either the British or the French, they only wished to keep their sacred land free from European possession. Most tribes believed that siding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
