Bilingual Education System in China Essay
It is generally claimed in today s world that bilingual education is becoming one of the most
significant issues in the sphere of global education. In comparison with the status of bilingual
education (BE) in China, a great deal more is known about its development in countries of Europe
and North America (Feng 2007, vii). However, BE in Chinahas a lot of varieties determined with the
educational context of students and the diversity of languages spoken in regions. But what is
bilingual educationin the context of China of 21st century?
The established model of BE in China, called language maintenance or heritage language bilingual
education, represents the using of mother tongue by language minority students as a main language

And this trend is observed in different academic institutions and is able to improve the entire
Chinese education system (Feng, 2007, ii).
When we consider personal advantages of Chinese English BE in the PRC, one of the most
influential ones is English proficiency which implies communicatory, occupation and cultural
benefits for bilingual students in the future. For example, it is acknowledged that English language
has become the essential instrument of assimilation of foreign technologies since the
announcement of open door policy in the country. Thus, in terms of getting a job in the industrial
sphere at the state level it would be obviously beneficial for bilingual employers in comparison
with monolingual candidates, who are competent to perform their duties only in native language
medium (Xiong, 2009, 35 36). Furthermore, Xiong (2009, 35) states that there is a direct
relationship between educational background and earning capability of individual. To clarify, he
gives an example of the survey carried out in Swiss labour market, which indicated a substantial
direct correlation between English language proficiency and the average amount of revenue.
Therefore, it means that English speaking workers who acquired bilingual education are more
expected to get a high paid job. In other words, it is a passport

Amino Acids And Different Functional Groups
Amino acids are difunctional compounds made of two different functional groups; an amino
group, NH2 and a carboxylic acid group, COOH. When these two compounds connect, a zwitterion
is created. Zwitterions are compounds with no overall electrical charge, but they do have positive
and negative charges in separate parts. Amino acids are the best known zwitterions, the NH2 end is
positively charged and the COOH is negatively charged.
The difunctional nature of each amino acid allows them to form peptide bonds with other amino
acids and form long chains. An example of two amino acids are glycine and alanine (see figure 1)
[1] [7]. These two amino acids can link together to form a dipeptide (a larger molecule).
When two molecules react ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proteins have 40+ amino acid residues joint and can have up to 2000 amino acid residues joint.
Peptide chains are made up of amino acid residues and not amino acids. This is because when a
condensation reaction occurs, a water molecule is lost, thus peptide chains are formed of what is
left which is amino acid residues. [1] [7]
There are 20 different amino acids that make up all proteins. Each one has a different purpose
which is defined by the R groups (side chains). The R groups also define which amino acids are
charged, polar or hydrophobic (see table 1).
Primary structure of proteins:
The primary structure of a protein is the linear sequence of amino acids, this linear sequence is
called a polypeptide chain. Amino acids are held together by intramolecular covalent bonds which
are called peptide bonds. Primary structures determine what the final 3 dimensional structure of that
protein will be. [5]
It is important to understand the properties of a peptide bond as it determines the later stages of a
protein. A peptide bond formed between 2 amino acids has a rigid planar structure. This structure
is due to interactions between electrons of the double bond of the carbonyl group and those of the
C N bond. This gives the bond, double bond characteristics which does not allow any rotation (see
figure 3).
Peptide groups are made of many amino acids combined which are in planar position, connected by
Ca atoms as show in figure 4. Although

Being A Practicing Surgeon, Atul Gawande Essay
Being a practicing surgeon, Atul Gawande approaches the dilemma of aging from a unique
perspective. The study and implementation of traditional medical practices, he suggests,
contributes to a problem solving, solution based approached to over coming the hurdles of old
age. The medical field, he says, puts the entirety of its focus on fixing the concrete problems that
patients come into the emergency room with, instead of focusing on the best overall solution to
satisfy the patients primary desires at the end of life. It is a very valid and important point. Why
put tens of thousands of dollars into a chemotherapy treatment plan to lengthen a persons life, if it
only ends up yielding a few extra weeks and causes tremendously more pain and suffering? At what
point does being alive become not worth it, especially when the patient sees not benefit, but more
suffering? This is the issue within the modern medical system that bridges the gap with medicine
and agingstudies. Aging studies, with its theories and concepts, hopes to present a solution to the
problem that Gawande points out in such detail and with so many personal examples. How can the
things that are most important to the patient be provided without all the intrusiveness and
extraordinary expenditures of our healthcare mentality? In summary, aging studies seeks to mend
the discontinuity between the stone faced objectivity of medical solutions and, as Gawande puts it,
what matters in the end .

Inhumanity In The Blade Runner By Hampton Fincher And Humans
Blade Runner, the classic sci fi noir movie by Hampton Fincher and David Peoples, is a futuristic
perspective on slavery, humanity, and the rights of thinking beings. In the movie, Deckard, a blade
runner and the main character of the story, hunts down Nexus 6 replicants: androids imposed with
superhuman strength and nearly human intelligence who have gone rogue (2, 10). These androids
are given a four year lifespan to prevent them from developing human emotions which way
throughout the movie to further complicate the balance between androids and humans (6).
Throughout the movie, the line between humanity and inhumanity becomes thinner and better,
causing problems for Deckard and Tyrell Corporation. In its entirety, Blade Runneris attempting to
get the audience to decide whether replicants deserve the same freedom and rights as humans. To
help the audience in their decision, the movie proved information about the supposedly inhumane
replicants and their human creators.
In one of Deckard s first confrontations with a replicant in the movie, the replicant, Leon, refers
to himself and the other replicants as slaves , and they are not wrong (60). Similarly, to the n
word used during the times of slavery, Replicants are referred to as skin jobs , a seemingly
derogatory term. Despite their similarities to humans, they are still looked down upon and
regarded by the word above (12). The Blade Runners themselves are very similar to the slave

Trumpeter Swan Research Paper
The Trumpeter Swan is an immense waterfowl with a heavy body and long neck; they can
stretch to 6 feet in length and can weigh more than 25 pounds. These waterfowl can be found in
North America, Alaska, and Canada. They are known as one of the heaviest flying birds and are
almost twice as big as a Tundra Swan. The color pattern they are known for is their entirely white
body and black legs and bill. Immatures are a grayish brown with a mottled bill that is black at the
base. During migration, the Trumpeter Swan can be confused with the Tundra Swan. A few ways
in which they differ is that the juvenile swan s plumage persists until spring migration, they have
narrower heads, and are larger.
These birds once nested over most of North America but began to disappear due to human
disturbance. However, due to conservation efforts that have been focused on reintroducing the
species, they are having a healthy comeback. Trumpeter Swans inhabit ponds, lakes, and rivers; in
winter, they may even inhabit bays. Historically, they seemed to favor fresh water over salt water,
but that description no longer applies to them. They forage in shallow water and on land, and will

They would migrate as far south as Texas and California. In 1960, their breeding range was also
said to stretch as far as Missouri and Nebraska. However, in the 1930s, fewer than 100 swans
remained in Canada. Their rapid disappearance started in the 1600s, when hunters began to
overhunt them for their meat, skin, and feathers. By the late 1800s, their populations were
decimated. It was also assumed that the loss of muskrats and beavers harmed Trumpeter Swan
populations due to the fact they use their dens and dams. However, due to conservation projects,
the species were able to recover by the early 2000s. They are now being reintroduced to certain

Poetry essay
How does the poet vividly convey ideas concerning the influence that nature has upon man?
Compare and Contrast at least two poets from cluster one giving detailed close analysis throughout.
(Comparison of Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael
Longley.)
Equally Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael Longley portray
to the reader that nature can consume and influence mans behaviour. They also both highlight how
easily things can come and go through our lives unnoticed and insignificant, without realising its
value until it s lost.
Longley s use of simile is very effective when conveying to the reader the influence of nature upon
man. Using the simile Like a hillside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of pathetic fallacy not only sets the mood but also allows the reader to appreciate how
easily the weather affect us as humans and cause a change in our moods. In contrast Longley uses
the structure of his poem to show how nature has occupied him; towards the end of the poem
enjambment is used to represent how his thoughts have been lost in natureAnd the otter s
skidmarks melting into the water this not only uses the enjambment to represent how broken and
dismembered his thought are but uses the metaphor to show how his thought are being washed as
he is absorbed deeper and deeper into nature and its complexity.
Longley s poem however uses several different techniques to show natures effect on man, the use of
sibilance within Landscape vividly conveys how nature can influence someone s thoughts. Within
stanza oneLike skeins of sheep s wool: is a bulls horn silting depicts how before the poet was at
peace in nature all his complicated thoughts were tangled and intertwined, however now they are all
started to crumble into nothing. This technique is used to emphasise a point due to the use of
intense sounds, such as s which allows the reader to further think and articulate themselves around
the point as the techniques use makes the stanza far more predominant.
As a whole Longley s poem landscape has a far more rounded ending.

Obesity Is Common All Over The United States Society Today
There are a variety of public issues in the United States society today. Many people are facing
some type of illness or disease, one we do not consider a major problem until just recently.
Obesity is a disease/condition that many people in America are suffering from. Really obesity
can be defined in many different ways; Mayo Clinic defines obesity as a complex disorder
involving an excessive amount of body fat (Obesity, 2015). When a person is diagnosed having
this disease/condition it can cause many health problems such as, diabetes, heart trouble, high and
low blood pressure. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than
one third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S adults are obese. ( Adult Obesity Facts, 2015).... Show

Adding, many factors have been shown that Obesity should be taken more seriously then what
many people consider. Factors of a person becoming obese can be all of the following,
community and environment, drugs, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, lack of sleep, bad habits
(smoking and drinking), genetics, social and economic issues, and one of the most important is
they way a person s family lives. Obesity can happen so quickly in young children if their family
does not do anything to make sure their children are getting enough exercise and good nutrition.
First, community and the environment play a role in exercise. A way a person can help prevent
becoming overweight, if living on a farm or in a neighborhood. Gather friends, family, or even
pets and take them for a walk, ride a bike, run, and some if close enough may walk to work. It is
very important to make sure environments are created to make it simpler and easier to participate
in physical exercise and maintaining a healthy diet. Next, drugs can have impact on your body
weight. Many may not realize how much drugs can have an effect on our bodies and health in
general. The pharmacist that I work for told me that most of your antidepressants (Wellbutrin) or
steroids could cause us to gain weight. Along with Antihistamines (Zyrtec), Antihypertensive (blood

The Crucible
A dramatist who explores the theme of revenge throughout his play is Arthur Miller in The
Crucible. There are different characters in this play that carry this theme of revenge, Abigail
being one in particular, as she seeks revenge against Goody Proctor. This is due to Goody
Proctor firing Abigail from her job after she had found out Abigail had had an affair with her
husband. This seventeen year old girl also has an endless capacity for dissembling. John Proctor,
Reverend Parris, and the Putnam s are also characters in the play that are out to seek revenge for

than explain it to Abigail. It also shows why Parris wants revenge, as it explains that some of the
villagers literally do not like him. The individual on the other hand who Parris seeks his settling

Proctor clearly is empathised in act three, which is set in the courtroom. Made known by Parris s
subtle comments about Proctor, such like Beware this man, your Excellency, this man is
mischief and He s come to overthrow the court, your Honour. Both these comments convey the
idea that Parris is strongly trying to get his thoughts about Proctor across. This proposal shows
through the words Excellency and Honour that Parris is trying to get the attention of Judge
Hathorne as he directs theses comments straight to him. Parris s revenge towards Proctor is clear
once he expresses that John is not a good Christian, as he does not attain church regularly. This
observation, which Parris has made, is one of the main reasons to why Parris reacts to Proctor in
the ways he does. This revenge is not as strong as Abigail s and Proctor s, although it is

Discrimination Of Genes In The Film Gattaca
Both in the movie Gattaca and in the early 20th century, children were genetically engineered to be
the optimal recombination of parent s genes. In the movie, Vincent was given 99% probability of
developing congenital heart defect and life expectancy of 30.2. In the eugenic movement in the
early 20th century, congenital defect was classified as unfit. Although he was not executed, he
faced lots of discrimination from the perfect society. In 1911, prisoners and children residing in
poor houses were sterilized involuntarily. Moreover, Preliminary Report by the Committee of the
Eugenic Section of the American Breeder s Association recommended Euthanasia to keep up the
standard of the race. In contrast, in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was not discriminated because of his
social status, color, or race. However, in the eugenicsmovement in the US in the early 20th century
there was discrimination because of social status, color, and race. For example, The Racial
Integrity Act of Virginia, made a marriage between a white and non white a felony and then 1927,
Virginia state was allowed sterilization of people considered genetically unfit.
Well, the genetic engineeringhas been legislated to a certain extent. At the age when ultrasound

Dualism And Personalism
Dualism is a philosophy that hypothesizes our mind is more then just our body. Dualists all deny
that the mind is the same as the brain. In contrast Personalism is a philosophy that says our mind
and body are one and the same. Personalists regard personhood as the fundamental notion that
which gives meaning to all reality. We will explore their differences through their impact on
abortion, death and politics.
Dualism is a philosophy that in its most basic form holds that the mind is comprised of a
nonphysical substance, while the body is composed of the physical substance called matter. This
type of dualism is called substance dualism, or Cartesian Dualism. This type of dualism was

If the mind truly was a different substance then while the body dies the brain would still show
some signs of life, because the mind would still be causally affecting it.
Dualism and abortion. Because a dualism at its core it the belief that something is composed of
two different parts, body and mind, a dualists could look at abortion two ways. The first way is
that because the mind and body a different and only causally interact, then abortion does not end
the life and so should not be considered murder. The second way is that because the mind and
body ARE causally affecting one another then because you hurt one half it affects the other and a
harmful way and should be considered and harmful act and outlawed. Because body and mind are
one and the same both these views are wrong just on principle, but if we delve deeper the view
that abortion end the life and thus shouldn t be considered murder is obviously the more harmful
of the two. But it is especially harmful because this view separates the mind from the body and
thus supports the pro abortionists view that the baby is just a bunch of cells and isn t sentient. And
the second view is harmful, but not quite as harmful as the first. The second view marginalizes
what happens during abortion, by saying that because the mind is causally affected by what
happens to the body that the act is harmful is different then saying the act

Music was essential to the pattern and texture of Greeek life. Music was so important that it was a

have motivated banks to spend large budget on building mobile banking systems, but the adoption

[2011] pointed out that main customer segments of mobile and Internet banking were not
necessarily the same, which might explain why Sadi et al. [2010] distinguished mobile commerce

Therefore, compared to huge online banking studies and relative few research available to help
banks understand the adoption of mobile banking [Suoranta Mattila 2003; Laukkanen Pasanen
2008; Puschel et al. 2010], more studies to investigate what influences people to adopt mobile
banking are necessary and demanded. Given that the chance of success in introducing a new
product or service is highly related to the depth of understanding of what influences consumers to
adopt this new product or service, this study employed the unified theory of acceptance and use of
technology (UTAUT) with age and gender as moderating effects to elaborately investigate what
affecting individuals to adopt mobile banking. The findings culled from this research can help
banks execute intricate marketing campaigns and customize service options to cater to specific
customer segments in the context of electronic banking. 2. Literature Review Literature reveals that
abundant research on electronic banking has focused on Internet banking (also called online
banking), whereas research focusing on mobile banking is relative little and receives underrated

Benefits Of A Long Run Relationship Between Gdp Per Capita...
In this section, we first use unit root test to select countries that are suitable for bonds test. Then,
bonds test is carried out to determine the existence of a long run relationship between GDP per
capita and GHG emission per capita. Next, if the result of bonds test is inconclusive, we employ
Engle and Granger cointegration test to determine whether a long run relationship exist. Once the
existence of a long run relationship is tested, we proceed to find out parameters and turning points.
5.1 Cointegration Analysis and Error Correction Term We first use Augmented Dickey Fuller unit
root test to check stationarity of variables at their level and at their first difference. In Table 2, we

Insert Table 2 here We carry out the bonds test several times including up to four lags. There is
evidence that the ARDL F statistics is sensitive to the lag order, so we select lag order based on
minimum value of Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) for it is a consistent model selector. If
AIC are close in two models, we use BIC as the selection criteria. After obtaining the optimal lag
order, we calculate the F statistics of the ARDL model. We list selected lags for each country and
the F statistics for the corresponding models in Table A1 (production based analysis) and Table A2
(consumption based analysis) in Appendix. As shown in Tables A1 and A2, some countries allow
for the existence of a long run relationship in more than one functional form. In those cases, we
need to determine the functional forms together with the long run relationship parameters estimated
by Equation (4). We will check (i) whether the parameters are significant; (ii) whether turning pints
of is inside of the sample; (iii) whether cubic forms has only tiny decreasing sections and approach
linear models; (iv) whether the error of Equation (3) is serially uncorrelated and the model is stable.
Table A3 in Appendix lists the ECT estimation for long term relationships with three functional
forms and the optimal functional form that we selected based on the bonds test and ECT
estimation. In 77 countries, a relationship between GDP per capita and GHG emissions is detected,

Analysis Of The Book Win Friends And Influence People
How to Win Friends and Influence People delivers an in depth and holistic perspective on human
relationships. The premise of the novel is essentially building relationships and its aim is to help
the reader accomplish exactly what is stated in the title; win friends and influence people. Written
by Dale Carnegieand first published in 1937, the novel was a product of the Dale Carnegie
Course in Effective Speaking. His courses were so popular, publishers realized that people skills
are a prized commodity to people from all walks of life and there would be a huge market for a
manual in developing this skillset. Credited as one of the first best selling self help books ever
published, this novel has served as an exceptional resource to generations of people around the
world. The longevity and relevance of the novel is a testament to the consistency of human
relations. The book was slightly revised for its later publications so some original features have
been omitted, I will be reviewing its recent 2005 publication.
What is so unique and impressive about the book is that it s written in a manner that effectively
breaks down exactly how the reader should behave and the characteristics the reader should
convey. Carnegie presents techniques on how to deal with people in your everyday life and how
to carry yourself in what seems like a high pressure situation. The organization of How to Win
Friends and Influence People allows the reader to easily follow the skills and techniques

A Critical Analysis of The Tale of the Unknown Island by JosГ© Saramago.
Kirkus in 2010 called this story a mischievous and thoughtful satire on ruling elites and bold
dreamers, cast in the form of revisionist fairy tale. This review could easily be applied to another
story of Saramago s, Centaur , and beautifully sums up the style of the author. The Tale of the

These examples show both the author s and the protagonist s challenge to the order of things and
the complete belief the character has. The best example of this is on line eight when the king says
that he shall not give you the boat the man replies with calm assurance you will .
If the conflict between the man and the order encompasses the first half of the story, then the
second half tells of love and the relationship between the man and the cleaning lady. It begins on
page three line thirty one she had just then decided to follow the man it shows that the belief of
the man and his success in claiming the boat from the king had stirred the woman into following
him. The story builds on their relationship on page six line ten as the woman starts to think of the
man in a very homely way having cleaned the boat while the man was gone looking for a crew
she worries about the provisions on board the boat as the man will turn up saying he s hungry,
which is what all men say the minute they get home appropriately describing the boat as their
home. The problem with the love developing in the story is the man s inability to see that all he
needs he has in front of him. We can see a metaphor for this on page four line three this is indeed
how destiny tends to behave. It is right behind us, it has already stretched out its hand to touch us
on the shoulder . Only on page seven we can start to see a

Often times power comes in many forms strength is a kind of power. Since Gilgamesh has no match
in regards to strength that makes him superior. Superior meaning, the highest being that rules
overall. Gilgamesh meets someone who also has the same strength him. The person was Enkidu,
who was sent down from the gods. In the beginning of their friendship, both bumped heads a lot,
until they realized that they both had equal strength. Besides Enkiduit was no one else who had the
same strength as him. The two of them was like Batman and Robin, until Enkidu dies. We
witnessed the transformation of Gilgamesh s heroic indifference to death.... said by Tzvi Abush. I
agree with this statement because The Death of Enkidu had a big impact on Gilgamesh and also
his power. The death of Enkidu made Gilgamesh open his eyes more. I guess you can say that
Gilgamesh humbled himself way more. Instead of being this Ideal heroto his community or city, he

the unjust man in reality, they will say, who, as his practice is akin to truth and his life not ruled

Summary Of Birnam Wood
The story, Birnam Wood by T. Coraghessan Boyle, is about a young man named Keith who was
a part time substitute teacher who filled in whenever he received a call. Not having a steady job
meant that Keith and his unemployed girlfriend Nora could only afford to live in small rundown
shacks. Keith describes the first place they lived in as, a shack, a converted chicken coop from a
time long gone. (156) One day the two of them go to look at another seasonal rental, only this
one was smaller and neither of them like it. Keith says that this was awkward for him, he felt
that he was the provider and was beginning to resent Nora for not working. The following day a
friend of theirs, Artie, calls to tell them about a place they could possibly stay. Keith and Nora
eventually house sit a much nicer place for the rest of the season, and Nora finally obtains a part
timejob working at a local bar as a hostess. One evening, Keith stays at the bar and begins talking
to Steve (another patron at the bar). When Steve shows interest in Nora, Keith dismisses it, and
other things are said and eventually personal information is exchanged. At the end of the night
Steve shows up in the house with a bottle of tequila to see Nora. After trying to get Steve to
leave, Nora (who appears to be upset and confused about why this man is in their house looking
for her) essentially allows Steve to stay. At the end of the story Keith is left standing outside

Ethics – Information Systems Assignment 2
Ethics Information Systems Assignment 2 11981634
Executive Summary
In the 21st century, information systems are being heavily integrating into our everyday routiunes.
Such systems present numerous morally questionable situations for humans (Mumford 2003).
aforementioned notion is explored within the case study, allowing us to analyse potential problems
that could arise via exploration of Masons 1986 PAPA Framework which includes Privacy,
accessibility, property and accuracy.
Privacy
The power that current and future information systems afford us with to gather information about
people, their preferences, and their activities by way of surveillance, communication, storage and
retrieval is increasing (Mason, 1986). Thus, laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jenny has divulged confidential information that her business has tried to keep secret. Such
information included business plans and technical information that could have a significant
commercial value. It is evident that her business was trying to protect their asset as they classified
the information on their ERP system as secret and confidential information .
Jenny could run into law problems as it is a common law duty to not take unfair advantage of

little to no right to disclose the private information.
Furthermore, Jenny s hacking has revealed an obvious security loophole within her company that
could be used to violate numerous privacy policies and steal personal data that could be used for
illegal or unethical purposes.
Accuracy
Even if data collection is ethical, there are still questions raised regarding the accuracy of the data.
In information systems, we depend intemperately upon the accuracy of such information as
inaccurate information can present many problems for a business (Altschuller 2004).
There is no way of determining that the data Jenny has provided to the competitor business is
accurate. If the competitor decided to use the information in their systems for financial decisions,
inaccuracies could have

Two Theories of Literacy Development
In this task I am going to identify 2 different theories of language development I am going to be
doing, Naom Chomsky and Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is
related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines
when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say,
This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in
size. In Piaget s view, children learn to talk naturally when they are ready without any deliberate
teaching by adults he thinks children pick up language by repeated behavior. From doing his
research into children s language and how they think,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between
seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more
rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues
well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas
about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example,
there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile.
During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or
learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are
able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able
to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they
now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about
objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn
about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the
same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are
still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage

Abstract As there is not a whole lot known about the revitalization of Fort Worth Texas
, so it is
important to draw attention to the transformation of the city hiding in Texas from the beginning of
Revitalization in 1979 to the end of it in 2011. Fort Worth was in economic disorder after WWII
and it was seen through the crumbling state of the city... people moved from cities into suburbs and
these people began shopping at strip malls rather than downtown centers. (Bernard,1). This severely

To make Fort Worth a major center in the metropolis as it was before, and not just a part of it as
the city had become, the Bass Brothers Enterprise decided to make the Bass Hall out to be the
centerpiece of the Sundance Square by making it the best architecturally and aesthetically, as well
as acoustically. Bass Hall is currently the permanent home of the Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth
Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Opera, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
and Cliburn Concerts(Bradley Hasse, 6). Before Revitalization the thought of such programs was
ridiculously impossible, especially for them to be based out of Fort Worth. The Bass Brother s

being one of the top ten best opera houses in the world (Fort Worth Architecture, 1) further allotted

Revitalization process. As stated, the building was originally rejected by the city as a tax funded
project (as taxpayers felt their money was better used elsewhere), so the millionaires were so
adamant about creating the famous hall at the time that the

At their nature the emo representatives are extremely sensitive characters. The psychologists
define them as introverts, who don t want to communicate with the ambient world. Because of
that they find a field of manifestation in the poetry. The poems that they write are dark,
dispiriting, depressive and they inspire sadness and nostalgia. In this respect they to a great

In fact this type young people, as all the rest, need love and seek it all the time. Just in the process
of this search they fall into the dark bottom of their souls and they suffer desperately. They suffer,

Groupon is a Deal of the day website that features discounted gift certificates usable at local or

Chicago, followed soon thereafter by Boston, New York City, and Toronto. By October 2010
Groupon served more than 150 markets in North America and 100 markets in Europe, Asia and
South America and had over 35 million registered users.
A sum of $1 million was invested to develop the idea and in April 2010, the company was valued

Not only will a business have to offer a steep discount for a product or service, but will also have to
pay a high commission structure to Groupon, just for listing the deal.
The theory behind small businesses doing this is, even though they would lose money on the
coupons, they believe they can attract long term customers. Unfortunately, this theory is wrong.
The businesses find customer volume falls off after the deals are done and they are not much
better off than before they offered the coupon. Business owners have no incentive to list deals
through Groupon. In fact, it would end up hurting the business by doing so. So why would a
business owner renew a deal on Groupon?
The company s problem is not related to who is CEO, but it is about the business model. In fact,
the next CEO will run into the very same issues that Mason had. Unless the new CEO can
introduce a radical change in the entire business model, it is very unlikely much can be done to turn
the company around. Even with Mason gone, investors will just stay away.
This is a company, which should have thought twice before going public. Eventually the volume
of coupons will drastically fall and no matter how big Groupon s sales force is, it will not be able
to stop the bleeding when the coupon issuers do not benefit. Groupon s best option is to adapt to a
stronger business model and not just focus on management change.

Additionally, as shown in figure 1, for this template model, ProQ3 shows a ProQ3D score of
.659 (Uziela et al., 2017). Similarly, as shown in figure 2, for the experimentally determined

walking you need to do depends on your age and fitness level, if you ve been inactive for a while,
have an existing medical condition or are pregnant, then talk to your doctor or Physical therapist
before beginning any walking or exercise program.
To begin walking, Start with slow 10 minute walks on a plane surface with proper shoes on, then
gradually increase the distance of your walks. Professionals suggest increasing the length of

The Horrifying Details of Mad Cow Disease Essay
The Horrifying Details of Mad Cow Disease
Mad Cow Disease, scientifically referred to as (BSE) Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, is a
disease that affects those humans who eat the meat from infected cows. Mad Cow Disease is
one of several fatal brain diseases called (TSE) Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy.
(USDA) There was evidence of a new illness resembling the sheep disease scrapie. It was
technically named BSE but quickly acquired the mad cow tag because of the way infected cattle
behave. (CNN) In 1997, there was an award given to Stanley Prusiner, for concluding that a
distorted protein called a prion was responsible for Mad Cow Disease, noted the long incubation
period made it difficult to distinguish (Bryant). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first events was he forgot how to spell his name. Then he forgot little things, like to

paper work done, so Tracie was doing his monthly expense report. About a month later, she
noticed that he was having a hard time doing basic math. By the end of July, Doug was terrible.
He went to Idaho on a business trip and was late calling home because he could not remember their
phone number. When Tracie asked why he did not use directory assistance, he claimed he could not
remember how to spell their last name (Kilzer).
By the middle of August, he could barely work. He blamed it on stress from traveling for work.
He thought a new job might help, so Tracie typed his resignation because he could not remember
how to use a computer. When he was looking for a new job, they found out that he could not fill
out an application by himself. By the end of the month, they sold their mobile home that they
lived in while finishing college and were going to move into the house they have just built, but
Doug had no job. Tracie had not found a teaching contract yet. She decided to take him to the
doctor when some friends came to help them move, and Doug did not know who they were. Doug s
resignation lost their insurance, so the kind house builder gave back all the money they put down.
The

Chemical Castration Of Sex Offenders
Sex offenders are people who have been charged and convicted of or pled guilty of a sex crime.
Sexual offenders are not all the same, rather each case in different and unique. A sex offender s
crime can range from gaining access to underage pornographic material to rape and even just
kidnapping a child. Nonetheless the acts committed by sex offenders are morally wrong and
continues to occur in the United States. On September 3rd a law was passed in Guam to begin
chemically castrated sex offenders prior to being released on parole. Chemical castration is a
process in which sex offenders will intake anti androgen, a hormone medication to control
unacceptable sexual behavior. The chemical castration ill cause a reduction in a person s sexual

Taking a Look at Four-Dimensionalism
Four dimensionalism is often seen in the field of metaphysics as a strong and sound solution to
many puzzles. Whether that s the Antinomy of Constitution, the Ship of Theseus, or the Paradox of
Increase, four dimensionalism always appears as a probable solution. But, four dimensionalism is
not the all powerful solution it appears to be at first glance. The theory itself has many
repercussions if it is taken to be true, leading me to dispute its overall validity. So what exactly is
the four dimensional theory? To begin, we must understand what the dimensions of our world are.
We experience the first three dimensions on a daily basis; namely, length, width, and height. These
three dimensions are typically referred to as the spatial dimensions. The next, fourth, dimensionis
then considered to be time. We cannot specifically see time but we know that time is continually
moving forward and we are subject to its progression. Four dimensionalism then exclaims that
objects consist of all four dimensions, splitting objects into spatial and temporal parts. We see the
spatial components when we look at an object but the temporal component is harder to see.
Essentially, the four dimensionalist believes that an object is never wholly present at one instance
in time but rather consists of the spatial components and all of the temporal components. This is
seen as the theory of perdurance and is accepted by four dimensionalists (Lewis). So when we hold
an object, say a

Conflict in Daniel Ridgway KnightВґs Paintings
Daniel Ridgway Knight was an odd American artist who loved to paint relaxed French peasants in
luscious landscapes. Ironically, he lived during a stressful time when the Industrial Revolution
displaced numerous farmers and polluted the environment. He seemed to ignore the harsh truth and
shut himself in his imaginary serene world. For instance, In the Premier Chagrin, translated as The
First Grief, Knight paints two healthy girls conversing on a stonewall in front of gorgeous fields. At
first, it appears as merely a pretty painting that is nicely contrasted to show depth and realism.
Yet, with a closer look, this contrast in the colors and lines of the landscape and the figures
creates tension to suggest the painter s conflict between longing for serene freedom and feeling
trapped within the stiff society. Though the viewers focus first on the centered figures, it is easier
to first analyze the surrounding settings to understand them. The stone wall foreground and the
open fields of the background each embodies one of the girl s thoughts. The back landscape is
filled with warm, airy colors of blue and orange, as if it were under a bright sun. On the other hand,
the foreground s stone wallsand concrete floor has dark, cold, shadowy, earthy colors that seem to
appear as if under a stormy cloud. The sunny land suggests free, pure, spacious land previous to the
industrialization. Yet, the darkened foreground due to the overcasting shadows resemble the
currently dirty,

The Assassination Of Timothy Mcveigh
Ever since its creation America has always been seen as the icon for peace and prosperity;
however, just like every other nation in the world, America has encountered some exceedingly dark
and sinister incidents of the past years. Like David Berkowitz s killing spree in New York City
during the summer of 1976, the Virginia Tech shooting that took place on the college campus in
2007, and even the horrific Oklahoma City Bombing that Timothy McVeigh orchestrated in 1995.
But there is one event in particular that was even more heinous and stranger than any of those the
JonestownMassacre. It was a mass suicide that occurred on November 18, 1978, in Guyanathat took

It was after several moves starting in the Midwest and ending in the Westcoast that Jones
decided that the Peoples Temple needed to emigrate from San Francisco to Guyana in order to
escape what he believed to be creeping fascism in the United States. Jones was a Marxist after all
so there was always that need to rebel against America and its capitalistic ideas (Russell 39). And
the communist utopia that Jones and the Peoples Temple had created (Jonestown) began to
flourish. It had seemed that the utopia Jones had always envisioned was now reality. The
members of the Peoples Temple began to feel at home because it was a place where anyone no
matter what race, gender, or even age could live in perfect harmony with one another. In fact
during its first phase of existence it could actually be considered a proper socialist community from
the point of view of a true political scientist (Latson). And it was not until the late 1970s that Jim
Jones and Jonestown began to crumble which could only be explained by Jones unusual
metamorphosis. Nobody really knows for sure what happened to him when he and the Peoples
Temple had left the United States to build their community in Guyana, but it would be something
that would end up destroying not only himself but everything he and the Peoples Temple had
created. In 1978 it had become evident that the

hit a weight loss plateau? It s time to learn why, and what you can do about it. Fat was practically
falling off your body just a few weeks ago, and now you re wondering if your scale is broken
because no matter what you do, your weight won t budge. What gives? Why did your routine
suddenly stop working, and what can you do to push through this weight loss plateau?
Understanding Weight Loss Vs. Fat Loss Weight loss is a tricky little devil because it doesn t
differentiate between changes in fat, muscle, and water. The goal, of course, is to lose maximum
fat and minimum muscle, and to keep water retention at a healthy minimum. When you step on
the scale and register a pound lighter than the day or week before, you probably assume that you
ve lost a pound of fat; if you weigh the same or more, you probably assume that you ve lost no fat,
or gained. Unfortunately, it s not that simple. Nothing swings weight up or down as easily as water
retention, for example. If you eat a lot of sodium and carbs,

Addiction In Double Down
With the broad spectrum of addictions being diagnosed, analyzed, and remedied people mostly
ignore the other side of what addictions can also cause. Relationships can be created and destroyed

All About Covalent Bonding ! Valence Electrons
All About Covalent Bonding! Valence Electrons All About Ionic Bonding!
пЃ¶Covalent bonding is when electrons are shared by atoms, which enables the atoms to gain more
stability.
пЃ¶Covalent bonding is done between two nonmetal atoms.
пЃ¶Molecules that are covalently bonded have low melting points because the electrons are being
shared. Plus, they are terrible conductors of electricity, because the molecule is made up of
nonmetals.
пЃ¶Covalent bonds can have three types of bonds, a single bond. A double bond, and a triple bond.
пЃ¶Gilbert N. Lewis created an illustration called the Lewis dot structure which portrayed covalent
bonds. пЃ¶ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By sharing these valence electrons, it creates a full electron shell. o Demonstration: H2O, the water
molecule is the perfect example of how covalent bonding uses valence electrons to create a full
electron shell. Oxygen has six electrons on the energy level 2p. For that energy level to be full, it
can have two more electrons. Therefore, two hydrogens bond with that one oxygen, to ensure its
stability. Hydrogen bonds with the oxygen because in order for hydrogen s outermost shell (1s) to
be filled, it needs one electron to be shared with it. So, oxygen shares one electron with each of the
two hydrogens, and the two hydrogens hare its one electron with the one oxygen.
пЃ¶Atoms that use ionic bonding transfer valence electrons. Metals give nonmetals electrons,
which make the metals positively charged, which is called a cation. Nonmetals receive electrons
from metals which make the nonmetals negatively charged which is called an

Bronislaw Malinowski Research Paper
There have been many scholars that have had different views on rituals and why people partake
in them. One of the most renowned English Functionalist had the idea of rituals being performed
because of a psychological reason. Bronislaw Malinowski proposed that humans participated in
rituals whenever they were in danger. He suggested that rituals were performed as a mean to
help people deal with anxiety. Bronislaw Malinowski was lead to believe that uneducated
cultures did not understand how to cope with everyday problems so they performed rituals
instead. In the reading, Bronislaw Malinowski uses The Trobriand Islanders as an example of his
theory. The islanders would take long journeys for trading purposes. The islanders would sail on

He saw rituals as a way for people of a society to preserve their unity with one another. Emile
Durkheim s theory was that while people were partaking in rituals they would put aside their self
centered tendencies and become a part of their society. He believed that rituals would bring such a
powerful bond between the participants. The rituals needed to continue to be performed to keep the
bond alive. Emile Durkheim inspired A.R Radcliffe Brown who agreed with his theories. There are
three different categories that Anthropologist place people who perform rituals in. These categories
are, Category A which is Shamans; Category B which is Priest; and Category C which is Prophets.
The phrase shaman comes from the language of a Siberian group. The translation of it is one who
is excited or moved. The most well known culture that has shamans in them are the Native
American Indians. Native American tribes are not the only cultures that have them. In South
American shamans are common. The most common place to find shamans are in

Conformity Vs. Normative Information
From the time we are very little, the number one source for correct facts has always been on the
news. Yet after recently learning about conformity involving informational versus normative
information, it opened my eyes further to understand how influenced society is as a whole. Another
similar example that has been growing recently is social media. Instead of flipping on the news
stations, it is just as popular now for individuals to look up information on the internet. Although
just like how news stations are biased and only hold true to the sources they support, as do websites
on the internet. What is worse about the internet is that people nowadays can post anything they

4-33 By John Cage
John Cage, an American composer, once stated There is no such thing as an empty space or an
empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In Cage s musical career, he
challenged the concept of sound by finding a compelling beauty in silence. His philosophy was
that silence let people feel the sounds in the environment and that silence can give off a deep
pleasure, which is shown in his piece 4 33 . However, silence isn t viewed as a common conception
of music, and at first I found Cage s philosophy very abstract, but then realized its validity and
how it can be a breakthrough in the American culture. Overall, silence is just like music, it can be
very powerful since it is an extended form of communication, gives the ability... Show more content

Silence is a time for the true self to connect to the flow of energy around. For the silent piece 4
33 , the performance usually goes like this: a performer goes on stage, sits at the piano and opens
the keyboard lid but sits quietly for the duration with seldom turns of music pages. After each
movement, the performer closes and reopens the lid and sits again, at the end he closes the lid,
bows and walks off stage (Peter Gutmann, 1). However, the reactions of the audience and the
sound of the environment is what create the music. The tension builds in the hall because people
are confronted with an unexpected silence which stimulates many responses and makes sounds r
through the ruffling of the audience and the area of the hall. In the hall, coughing, sneezing, un
wrapping of gum or mints, shifting in seats, opening a door, the air conditioning, or any other
aspect can occur as the nature of the outside world such as wind, the passing of an airplane,
crunching of leaves, and other natural aspects also occur (Eric Rockwell, 1). This piece becomes a
personal sound because every listener can create their own reaction. Overall the balance between
nature and human sounds are what John Cage considers music. Each sound has a distinct tone and
duration that the audience can become aware of instead of how they usually disregard it. Through
this silent piece, Cage helps the audience see that

Separating Wall Columns Into The Separation Of Liquefied...
A series of articles have been published from the Yeungnam University mainly led by Long and
Lee that relates to the incorporation of dividing wall columns into the separation of liquefied
natural gas. Each base case had slight variances and the proposed dividing wall column design was
also distinctive.
1.5.1.1 First case study
Figure 29 Double Dividing Wall Column for Natural Gasseparation (Long and Lee 2011)
In this natural gas liquid (LNG) separation study conducted by Long and Lee (2011), the base
separation system includes a sequence of depropaniser, debutanizer and deisobutanizer which
separated a system the includes ethane, propane, n butane, i butane and heavies (C5+) (Long and
Lee 2011). The demethanizer and deethanizer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This arrangement reduced energy costs by 30.5%, which is a large jump from the previous
sequence but there are no logical explanations provides as to how they reached this particular
arrangement. The three columns were then integrated into a single Agrawal column (figure 20)
with a pressure of 14 bar, but this resulted in the required energy increasing by 13.5% from the
conventional sequence showing the unsuitability of integrating the three columns into one (Long
and Lee 2011).
1.5.1.2 Second case study
In a second study conducted by Long and Lee (2012), they aimed at optimising and integrating a
deethanizer and depropaniser, which operate at 30.98 and 17.5 bar respectively. The inspiration
of this particular study came from a patented document conducted in 1996 that presented
improvements in demethanizing and deethanizing stages of Liquefied Natural Gas separation
(Manley 1997). This can be challenging as a balance between a high and low pressure must be
found when integrating the two columns into a single dividing wall column. A high pressure will
increase the temperature of the top stream and lower refrigerant cost but column and equipment
wall thickness will have to be significantly increased. So a balance between the operating and
capital cost must be found with the selection of operating pressure. However Long and Lee
(2012) opted to go with a low pressure of 17.5bar to minimise capital costs and reboiler duties
resulting in a 31.74% decrease in operating

My Fourth Performance Analysis

book Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives. Julio is an immigrant that
tries to cross the border seven times, and on the eighth time he goes through terrible
circumstances only to make it through the desert alive. My group will try to use theories of
Conquergood, Pollock, and Bell, while keeping in mind the second learning objective in order
to execute Julio s story properly. We ve taken great pains to ensure that we keep Conquergood s
theory of dialogic performance in mind. Since we are committing to the piece and
understanding Julio s story, we are not in danger of falling into the Skeptic s Cop out or the
Custodian s Rip Off (Conquergood, 1985, pg. 5). We have to ensure that we balance the idea of
being enthusiastic to portray him realistically and to show Julio s story, while trying to not portray
Julio as a fascinating story that is represented as a freak show (Conquergood, 1985, pg. 7). There
needs to be an interaction with ourselves as performers and the story without trying to act . There...

  • 2. Bilingual Education System in China Essay It is generally claimed in today s world that bilingual education is becoming one of the most significant issues in the sphere of global education. In comparison with the status of bilingual education (BE) in China, a great deal more is known about its development in countries of Europe and North America (Feng 2007, vii). However, BE in Chinahas a lot of varieties determined with the educational context of students and the diversity of languages spoken in regions. But what is bilingual educationin the context of China of 21st century? The established model of BE in China, called language maintenance or heritage language bilingual education, represents the using of mother tongue by language minority students as a main language of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this trend is observed in different academic institutions and is able to improve the entire Chinese education system (Feng, 2007, ii). When we consider personal advantages of Chinese English BE in the PRC, one of the most influential ones is English proficiency which implies communicatory, occupation and cultural benefits for bilingual students in the future. For example, it is acknowledged that English language has become the essential instrument of assimilation of foreign technologies since the announcement of open door policy in the country. Thus, in terms of getting a job in the industrial sphere at the state level it would be obviously beneficial for bilingual employers in comparison with monolingual candidates, who are competent to perform their duties only in native language medium (Xiong, 2009, 35 36). Furthermore, Xiong (2009, 35) states that there is a direct relationship between educational background and earning capability of individual. To clarify, he gives an example of the survey carried out in Swiss labour market, which indicated a substantial direct correlation between English language proficiency and the average amount of revenue. Therefore, it means that English speaking workers who acquired bilingual education are more expected to get a high paid job. In other words, it is a passport ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Amino Acids And Different Functional Groups Amino acids are difunctional compounds made of two different functional groups; an amino group, NH2 and a carboxylic acid group, COOH. When these two compounds connect, a zwitterion is created. Zwitterions are compounds with no overall electrical charge, but they do have positive and negative charges in separate parts. Amino acids are the best known zwitterions, the NH2 end is positively charged and the COOH is negatively charged. The difunctional nature of each amino acid allows them to form peptide bonds with other amino acids and form long chains. An example of two amino acids are glycine and alanine (see figure 1) [1] [7]. This is because when a condensation reaction occurs, a water molecule is lost, thus peptide chains are formed of what is left which is amino acid residues. [1] [7] There are 20 different amino acids that make up all proteins. Each one has a different purpose which is defined by the R groups (side chains). The R groups also define which amino acids are charged, polar or hydrophobic (see table 1). Primary structure of proteins: The primary structure of a protein is the linear sequence of amino acids, this linear sequence is called a polypeptide chain. Amino acids are held together by intramolecular covalent bonds which are called peptide bonds. Primary structures determine what the final 3 dimensional structure of that protein will be. [5] It is important to understand the properties of a peptide bond as it determines the later stages of a protein. A peptide bond formed between 2 amino acids has a rigid planar structure. This structure is due to interactions between electrons of the double bond of the carbonyl group and those of the C N bond. This gives the bond, double bond characteristics which does not allow any rotation (see figure 3). Peptide groups are made of many amino acids combined which are in planar position, connected by Ca atoms as show in figure 4. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Being A Practicing Surgeon, Atul Gawande Essay Being a practicing surgeon, Atul Gawande approaches the dilemma of aging from a unique perspective. The study and implementation of traditional medical practices, he suggests, contributes to a problem solving, solution based approached to over coming the hurdles of old age. The medical field, he says, puts the entirety of its focus on fixing the concrete problems that patients come into the emergency room with, instead of focusing on the best overall solution to satisfy the patients primary desires at the end of life. It is a very valid and important point. Why put tens of thousands of dollars into a chemotherapy treatment plan to lengthen a persons life, if it only ends up yielding a few extra weeks and causes tremendously more pain and suffering? At what point does being alive become not worth it, especially when the patient sees not benefit, but more suffering? This is the issue within the modern medical system that bridges the gap with medicine and agingstudies. Aging studies, with its theories and concepts, hopes to present a solution to the problem that Gawande points out in such detail and with so many personal examples. How can the things that are most important to the patient be provided without all the intrusiveness and extraordinary expenditures of our healthcare mentality? In summary, aging studies seeks to mend the discontinuity between the stone faced objectivity of medical solutions and, as Gawande puts it, what matters in the end . Being Mortal, in one way ... • 5. Inhumanity In The Blade Runner By Hampton Fincher And Humans Blade Runner, the classic sci fi noir movie by Hampton Fincher and David Peoples, is a futuristic perspective on slavery, humanity, and the rights of thinking beings. In the movie, Deckard, a blade runner and the main character of the story, hunts down Nexus 6 replicants: androids imposed with superhuman strength and nearly human intelligence who have gone rogue (2, 10). These androids are given a four year lifespan to prevent them from developing human emotions which way throughout the movie to further complicate the balance between androids and humans (6). Throughout the movie, the line between humanity and inhumanity becomes thinner and better, causing problems for Deckard and Tyrell Corporation. In its entirety, Blade Runneris attempting to get the audience to decide whether replicants deserve the same freedom and rights as humans. To help the audience in their decision, the movie proved information about the supposedly inhumane replicants and their human creators. In one of Deckard s first confrontations with a replicant in the movie, the replicant, Leon, refers to himself and the other replicants as slaves , and they are not wrong (60). Similarly, to the n word used during the times of slavery, Replicants are referred to as skin jobs , a seemingly derogatory term. Despite their similarities to humans, they are still looked down upon and regarded by the word above (12). The Blade Runners themselves are very similar to the slave catchers of the early United ... • 6. Trumpeter Swan Research Paper The Trumpeter Swan is an immense waterfowl with a heavy body and long neck; they can stretch to 6 feet in length and can weigh more than 25 pounds. These waterfowl can be found in North America, Alaska, and Canada. They are known as one of the heaviest flying birds and are almost twice as big as a Tundra Swan. The color pattern they are known for is their entirely white body and black legs and bill. Immatures are a grayish brown with a mottled bill that is black at the base. During migration, the Trumpeter Swan can be confused with the Tundra Swan. A few ways in which they differ is that the juvenile swan s plumage persists until spring migration, they have narrower heads, and are larger. These birds once nested over most of North America but began to disappear due to human disturbance. However, due to conservation efforts that have been focused on reintroducing the species, they are having a healthy comeback. Trumpeter Swans inhabit ponds, lakes, and rivers; in winter, they may even inhabit bays. Historically, they seemed to favor fresh water over salt water, but that description no longer applies to them. They forage in shallow water and on land, and will occasionally forage in ... However, in the 1930s, fewer than 100 swans remained in Canada. Their rapid disappearance started in the 1600s, when hunters began to overhunt them for their meat, skin, and feathers. By the late 1800s, their populations were decimated. It was also assumed that the loss of muskrats and beavers harmed Trumpeter Swan populations due to the fact they use their dens and dams. However, due to conservation projects, the species were able to recover by the early 2000s. They are now being reintroduced to certain areas, such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, and ... • 7. Poetry essay How does the poet vividly convey ideas concerning the influence that nature has upon man? Compare and Contrast at least two poets from cluster one giving detailed close analysis throughout. (Comparison of Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael Longley.) Equally Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael Longley portray to the reader that nature can consume and influence mans behaviour. They also both highlight how easily things can come and go through our lives unnoticed and insignificant, without realising its value until it s lost. The use of pathetic fallacy not only sets the mood but also allows the reader to appreciate how easily the weather affect us as humans and cause a change in our moods. In contrast Longley uses the structure of his poem to show how nature has occupied him; towards the end of the poem enjambment is used to represent how his thoughts have been lost in natureAnd the otter s skidmarks melting into the water this not only uses the enjambment to represent how broken and dismembered his thought are but uses the metaphor to show how his thought are being washed as he is absorbed deeper and deeper into nature and its complexity. Longley s poem however uses several different techniques to show natures effect on man, the use of sibilance within Landscape vividly conveys how nature can influence someone s thoughts. Within stanza oneLike skeins of sheep s wool: is a bulls horn silting depicts how before the poet was at peace in nature all his complicated thoughts were tangled and intertwined, however now they are all started to crumble into nothing. This technique is used to emphasise a point due to the use of intense sounds, such as s which allows the reader to further think and articulate themselves around the point as the techniques use makes the stanza far more predominant. Many people are facing some type of illness or disease, one we do not consider a major problem until just recently. Obesity is a disease/condition that many people in America are suffering from. Really obesity can be defined in many different ways; Mayo Clinic defines obesity as a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat (Obesity, 2015). When a person is diagnosed having this disease/condition it can cause many health problems such as, diabetes, heart trouble, high and low blood pressure. There are different characters in this play that carry this theme of revenge, Abigail being one in particular, as she seeks revenge against Goody Proctor. This is due to Goody Proctor firing Abigail from her job after she had found out Abigail had had an affair with her husband. This seventeen year old girl also has an endless capacity for dissembling. There is a fraction sworn to drive me from my pulpit. Do you understand? these words do you understand give off the impression that Parris is trying to convince himself of this fact rather than explain it to Abigail. It also shows why Parris wants revenge, as it explains that some of the villagers literally do not like him. The individual on the other hand who Parris seeks his settling of scores with is John Proctor, as he does not respect Parris as a reverend. Parris s dislike towards Proctor clearly is empathised in act three, which is set in the courtroom. Made known by Parris s subtle comments about Proctor, such like Beware this man, your Excellency, this man is mischief and He s come to overthrow the court, your Honour. Both these comments convey the idea that Parris is strongly trying to get his thoughts about Proctor across. This proposal shows through the words Excellency and Honour that Parris is trying to get the attention of Judge Hathorne as he directs theses comments straight to him. Parris s revenge towards Proctor is clear once he expresses that John is not a good Christian, as he does not attain church regularly. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say, This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in size. In Piaget s view, children learn to talk naturally when they are ready without any deliberate teaching by adults he thinks children pick up language by repeated behavior. The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example, there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile. During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage ... April 9th, 2015 Abstract As there is not a whole lot known about the revitalization of Fort Worth Texas , so it is important to draw attention to the transformation of the city hiding in Texas from the beginning of Revitalization in 1979 to the end of it in 2011. To make Fort Worth a major center in the metropolis as it was before, and not just a part of it as the city had become, the Bass Brothers Enterprise decided to make the Bass Hall out to be the centerpiece of the Sundance Square by making it the best architecturally and aesthetically, as well as acoustically. Bass Hall is currently the permanent home of the Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Opera, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Cliburn Concerts(Bradley Hasse, 6). Before Revitalization the thought of such programs was ridiculously impossible, especially for them to be based out of Fort Worth. The Bass Brother s contribution of the Nancy Lee and Perry R. The theory behind small businesses doing this is, even though they would lose money on the coupons, they believe they can attract long term customers. Unfortunately, this theory is wrong. The businesses find customer volume falls off after the deals are done and they are not much better off than before they offered the coupon. Business owners have no incentive to list deals through Groupon. In fact, it would end up hurting the business by doing so. So why would a business owner renew a deal on Groupon? • 39. Taking a Look at Four-Dimensionalism Four dimensionalism is often seen in the field of metaphysics as a strong and sound solution to many puzzles. Whether that s the Antinomy of Constitution, the Ship of Theseus, or the Paradox of Increase, four dimensionalism always appears as a probable solution. But, four dimensionalism is not the all powerful solution it appears to be at first glance. The theory itself has many repercussions if it is taken to be true, leading me to dispute its overall validity. So what exactly is the four dimensional theory? To begin, we must understand what the dimensions of our world are. We experience the first three dimensions on a daily basis; namely, length, width, and height. These three dimensions are typically referred to as the spatial dimensions. The next, fourth, dimensionis then considered to be time. We cannot specifically see time but we know that time is continually moving forward and we are subject to its progression. Four dimensionalism then exclaims that objects consist of all four dimensions, splitting objects into spatial and temporal parts. We see the spatial components when we look at an object but the temporal component is harder to see. Essentially, the four dimensionalist believes that an object is never wholly present at one instance in time but rather consists of the spatial components and all of the temporal components. This is seen as the theory of perdurance and is accepted by four dimensionalists (Lewis). So when we hold an object, say a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ironically, he lived during a stressful time when the Industrial Revolution displaced numerous farmers and polluted the environment. He seemed to ignore the harsh truth and shut himself in his imaginary serene world. For instance, In the Premier Chagrin, translated as The First Grief, Knight paints two healthy girls conversing on a stonewall in front of gorgeous fields. At first, it appears as merely a pretty painting that is nicely contrasted to show depth and realism. Yet, with a closer look, this contrast in the colors and lines of the landscape and the figures creates tension to suggest the painter s conflict between longing for serene freedom and feeling trapped within the stiff society. Though the viewers focus first on the centered figures, it is easier to first analyze the surrounding settings to understand them. The stone wall foreground and the open fields of the background each embodies one of the girl s thoughts. The back landscape is filled with warm, airy colors of blue and orange, as if it were under a bright sun. On the other hand, the foreground s stone wallsand concrete floor has dark, cold, shadowy, earthy colors that seem to appear as if under a stormy cloud. • 49. 4-33 By John Cage John Cage, an American composer, once stated There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In Cage s musical career, he challenged the concept of sound by finding a compelling beauty in silence. His philosophy was that silence let people feel the sounds in the environment and that silence can give off a deep pleasure, which is shown in his piece 4 33 . However, silence isn t viewed as a common conception of music, and at first I found Cage s philosophy very abstract, but then realized its validity and how it can be a breakthrough in the American culture. Overall, silence is just like music, it can be very powerful since it is an extended form of communication, gives the ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Silence is a time for the true self to connect to the flow of energy around. For the silent piece 4 33 , the performance usually goes like this: a performer goes on stage, sits at the piano and opens the keyboard lid but sits quietly for the duration with seldom turns of music pages. After each movement, the performer closes and reopens the lid and sits again, at the end he closes the lid, bows and walks off stage (Peter Gutmann, 1). However, the reactions of the audience and the sound of the environment is what create the music. The tension builds in the hall because people are confronted with an unexpected silence which stimulates many responses and makes sounds r through the ruffling of the audience and the area of the hall. In the hall, coughing, sneezing, un wrapping of gum or mints, shifting in seats, opening a door, the air conditioning, or any other aspect can occur as the nature of the outside world such as wind, the passing of an airplane, crunching of leaves, and other natural aspects also occur (Eric Rockwell, 1). This piece becomes a personal sound because every listener can create their own reaction. Overall the balance between nature and human sounds are what John Cage considers music. Each sound has a distinct tone and duration that the audience can become aware of instead of how they usually disregard it. Through this silent piece, Cage helps the audience see that ... • 50. Celie Vs Spielberg The book and motion picture The Color Purple is a compelling story of a one Celie who finds her womanhood and humanity with help from the other characters. From her abusive father and husband to her loving friend Shrug Avery, a strong woman known for her voice, Celie takes a long journey into personal freedom. Both Walker and Spielberg use Celie s experiences to convey how her struggles allow her to come into her womanhood, however, Walker tells the story through a darker and hopeless lens whereas Spielberg presents the pain through a much less negative perspective. Both Alice walker and Steven Spielberg portray Celie s struggles in detail, however, Spielberg fails to show Celie s seriousness and soulem spirit in the production of The Color Purple. As the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this section of the scene Celie does display happiness through a smile and light laughter. This sense of happiness does not carry over in the book. The book portrays a more, glass half empty point of view, where Celie is more jealous of her husband s relationship with Shrug. When Mr. gets home from meeting Shrug, Celie wants to ask a million questions about her but holds them all in because Mr. would not want to answer them. She also shows her self consciousness in the book because of Shrug. Although Celie looks up to Shrug and idolises her in the book, she also knows that shrug is the woman which her husband wishes he had married. This is very destroying to Celie s self confidence. Celie knows that the bar is set so high for her that she will never be able to live up to the standards to which her husband expects. In both the book and the movie, Celie helps Shrug back to health. In the book Celie and Shrug come out of Shrugs sickness with a very strong relationship and Celie uses Shrug as a way to become who she is as a person. In the movie, Celie and Shrug ... • 51. Separating Wall Columns Into The Separation Of Liquefied... A series of articles have been published from the Yeungnam University mainly led by Long and Lee that relates to the incorporation of dividing wall columns into the separation of liquefied natural gas. Each base case had slight variances and the proposed dividing wall column design was also distinctive. 1.5.1.1 First case study Figure 29 Double Dividing Wall Column for Natural Gasseparation (Long and Lee 2011) In this natural gas liquid (LNG) separation study conducted by Long and Lee (2011), the base separation system includes a sequence of depropaniser, debutanizer and deisobutanizer which separated a system the includes ethane, propane, n butane, i butane and heavies (C5+) (Long and Lee 2011). The demethanizer and deethanizer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This arrangement reduced energy costs by 30.5%, which is a large jump from the previous sequence but there are no logical explanations provides as to how they reached this particular arrangement. The three columns were then integrated into a single Agrawal column (figure 20) with a pressure of 14 bar, but this resulted in the required energy increasing by 13.5% from the conventional sequence showing the unsuitability of integrating the three columns into one (Long and Lee 2011). 1.5.1.2 Second case study In a second study conducted by Long and Lee (2012), they aimed at optimising and integrating a deethanizer and depropaniser, which operate at 30.98 and 17.5 bar respectively. The inspiration of this particular study came from a patented document conducted in 1996 that presented improvements in demethanizing and deethanizing stages of Liquefied Natural Gas separation (Manley 1997). This can be challenging as a balance between a high and low pressure must be found when integrating the two columns into a single dividing wall column. A high pressure will increase the temperature of the top stream and lower refrigerant cost but column and equipment wall thickness will have to be significantly increased. So a balance between the operating and capital cost must be found with the selection of operating pressure. However Long and Lee (2012) opted to go with a low pressure of 17.5bar to minimise capital costs and reboiler duties resulting in a 31.74% decrease in operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. My Fourth Performance Analysis My fourth performance will be a group performance that focuses on the story of Julio, from the book Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives. Julio is an immigrant that tries to cross the border seven times, and on the eighth time he goes through terrible circumstances only to make it through the desert alive. My group will try to use theories of Conquergood, Pollock, and Bell, while keeping in mind the second learning objective in order to execute Julio s story properly. We ve taken great pains to ensure that we keep Conquergood s theory of dialogic performance in mind. Since we are committing to the piece and understanding Julio s story, we are not in danger of falling into the Skeptic s Cop out or the Custodian s Rip Off (Conquergood, 1985, pg. 5). We have to ensure that we balance the idea of being enthusiastic to portray him realistically and to show Julio s story, while trying to not portray Julio as a fascinating story that is represented as a freak show (Conquergood, 1985, pg. 7). There needs to be an interaction with ourselves as performers and the story without trying to act . There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Stephanie Anderson (2016), our second learning objective in this class is, Students will be able to identify the dynamics of ethnic, cultural, gender/sexual, age based, class, regional, national, transnational, and global identities and the similarities, differences, linkages, and interactions between them . In reading, analyzing, and performing stories like Julio s, we come to understand the obstacles other people have to overcome. More specifically, the race and ethnicity of another creates tensions between other cultures. The interaction the different nations, cultures, races, etc., have with one another have an unequal power dynamic which results in poor treatment.
