The Internet And Its Impact On Our Lives Essay
According to History.com, in 1965, ARPAnet, also known today as the Internet, was invented for
military purposes. However, Tim Berners Lee had a different intention for ARPAnet. He invented
the worldwide web where information was accessible for anyone.
Centuries ago, to impart knowledge or information from the past and pass it from one person to
another, books were created. To obtain it, they had to go to a library, read tons of books about a
certain topic, jotted down and remembered the details they need. Today, all you need is an internet
access and you could have an enormous amount of data at your fingertips in an object that was
manufactured with the same size as a brick. Libraries were mainly used to obtain a physical
evidence of a documentation needed for research, studies, papers or projects. As stated in
History.com, for 56 years, the Internet had evolved. It became an ultimate tool in our daily
lives. However, nothing comes without a price. Nicholas Carr, an author of the article Is Google
Making Us Stupid? , published in The Atlantic as to how the Internet, specifically google, is
changing the way we read and the way we interact with reading materials. On the other hand, John
Battelle, an author, and a journalist, wrote a polemical article entitled Google: Making Nick Carr,
But It s Made This Guy Smarter published his response to Carr in his own blog. Battelle said that
I am feeling my brain light up, I and feeling like I m getting smarter whenever he

Analysis of Shuttle Challenger and Columbia Shuttle Mishaps
Running Head: ANALYSIS OF SHUTTLE CHALLENGER AND COLUMBIA SHUTTLE
MISHAPS Analysis of Shuttle Challenger and Columbia Shuttle Mishaps ENG 401 Assignment
04 March 2013 Introduction On January 1986, the Challenger Shuttle blew up shortly after it
took off. The accidents took seven lives including aerospace engineers, the specialties pilot, and
scientists. The tragic accidents occurred 73 seconds after the flight and caused by the fuel leak
from one of the two Solid Rocket Boosters. The explosion represented one of the most significant
events in 1980s. However, 17 years after the explosion of the Challenger Shuttle, the Shuttle
Colombia also had an in flight explosion leading to the loss of seven lives. The objective of this
paper is to analyze the Columbia mishap with reference to resistance to change and how the issues
contribute to the accident. Identification of Individual Resistance to Change ad Causes Changes are
very critical to enhance organizational effectiveness. An organization needs to implement changes
to stay productive, competitive as well as avoiding calamity in the case of aviation sector. Changes
are the process of instilling new attitudes, values, norms and behaviors within an organization to
support the way of doing work. However, the implementation of changes is a task that requires
adequate planning and design since changes are not always welcome and could lead to individual s
resistance to change. (Agboola, Salawu,2011). The identification

Think By John Piper Summary
John Piper has dedicated many years of his life to writing books, preaching sermons, and running
various ministries. His education includes a degree in Literature and Philosophy, a Master of
Divinity, and a doctorate in New Testament Studies. He has written over 50 books and a vast
amount of articles and other forms of literature pertaining to Christianityand the human response to
religion. In one of his books, Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God, Piper explains how
the use of conscious thought and understanding is essential to being able to better glorify and
worship God. In the introduction, Piper clearly states his main goal for Think and his hopes for
his readers after finishing each chapter. He claims that he will not support his various arguments
using only his opinions and experiences, as other authors of similar books have done, but will
show his readers what is written in the Bible about those topics (16). Piper then gives an outline of
his book, explaining what each chapter contains (18 21).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shares how, through thinking and learning, he grew in his relationship with God and his
enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge (26). He explains how there is a tension between the
religious and academic communities because they believe they cannot coexist. He states that this
same belief has infiltrated our minds as well sometimes through faulty biblical interpretation (28
29). He argues that one cannot have knowledge without thinking, but also cannot have thinking
without knowledge. Piper explains that biblical interpretation is not solely the job of the reader.
To fully grasp the message of the Bible, the reader has to have God s help and guidance

Bourdieu Theory
Homeowners faced design choices that federal agencies, corporations, builders, architects, research
and development organizations, and media outlets honed down into a smaller list for the masses. I
frame the design options that homeowners had with two themes access, and science and
technology. The theme of access addresses the social, cultural, and political structures that dictated
design options. Science and technology encompass the construction processes and materials,
interior materials, and objects within the house. In some instances, the theme of science and
technology impacted access. I will illustrate how these themes frame and narrow the design options
available to homeowners when purchasing or renovating their homes.

Advancements in science and technology required changes in construction materials due to
economic concerns for builders and homeowners. Where plaster was once the standard for wall
insulation and construction, drywall was becoming the standard instead (Lane, 2015). Plaster wall
construction required skilled workers, and this process is time consuming and costly to construct
and repair, whereas, unskilled workers could install drywall quicker and less expensively (Lane,
2015). The combination of reduced construction time and unskilled workers saved builders and
construction companies money. Drywall enabled homeowners to renovate at a reduced cost and
change wall appearances easier with paint and wallpaper (Jensen, 2004; Lane,

Stereotyping of Bend It Like Beckham and Billy Elliot

In this essay I will discuss about the stereotyping of Bend it like Beckham and Billy Elliot and the
different cultures. In Bend it like Beckham the mum of the main character doesn t want her to play
football because she is a girl and it isn t honourable for the family. She won t let her play football
because of this but Jess plays football behind her back. In Billy Elliot, the boy starts to dance and
the dad is against boys dancing and says they should be out boxing or playing football. This film
was set during the miner strike.
In Billy Elliot, there was a lot of stereotyping, mainly towards Billy being a dancer. Billy has an ...

The director uses happy music when Billy dances in front of his dad to make it look like he is
fighting against the stereotyping. When Billy s brother has a go at the teacher when she says
that Billy missed a dance audition, this is stereotyping because the brother has a go at the
teacher and says that he would be embarrassed to have a brother that dances and that he doesn t
want a gay for a brother. This is stereotyping against dancers and gays, because not all dancers are
gay, just because they like dancing and there isn t anything wrong with being gay just as long as
u don t try and get other people to join you. During this part of the film, the director uses sad rock
type music to show anger from his brother. After this part, Billy starts dancing to release his
anger, this type of music is also rock too show that Billy is unhappy. You can also see he is
unhappy buy him Trying to climb the wall, which looks like he is trapped in something and
trying to get out of it. Billy seems to express himself in dancing during the film and release his
feeling about things. Dancing seems to be the only thing Billy has. We also see the stereotyping
towards Gays when Billy hits a boy and told him to p*ss off u queer B*stard. This shows that
Billy has a violent side to him and is upset here. We also know that Billy isn t somebody who

Furthermore, they feel comfortable being with each other alone when the author explains, I
remembered how my stepfather and I enjoyed watching programs like Gunsmoke , The Virginian ,

a teacher in high school or college when the author states, I walked to my car thinking about what
I was doing as an instructor and how I was doing it (158). These things make him feels struggle

feel unfair that they only let the boys do dishwasher because the boys are more stronger than girls.

The Power Of Discovery In The Tempest And Into The Wild
Discoveries challenge societal and individual s beliefs of human relevance and identity through new
experiences and other individuals who influence the transformation of one s inner self and the
world they inhabit. Both the The Tempest and film Into the wild demonstrates the power of
discovery in transforming one s perspective on themselves and the world. Shakespeare s, The
Tempest explores the universeas impersonal, insinuating human irrelevance and the need for others
in self transformation. Similarly, the film Into the wild communicates transformation through
isolation within the natural environment by deviating from the familiar, learning forgiveness and
that natureis harsh proving escapism to be more detrimental than cathartic. Both texts explore the
physical power of nature and aspects of self discovery catalyzed through others and by challenging
societal beliefs and encountering new human experiences.
The discovery of human insignificance within the universe is revealed through the disruption of
social order, provoking new worldviews and communicating the universe as impersonal. These
concepts of discovery challenge the beliefs and assumptions of human power and portray human
irrelevance and how isolation leads to self discovery away from society s expectations. The setting
of play emphasis isolation on the island and acts as a tool for the characters to explore self without
the beliefs of society dominating the individual s values. Prospero, the

The Impact Of Attitudes On The Workplace Essay
Attitudes and emotions in the workplace are extremely important because they dictate job
performance. The emotions that people go through are something that cannot be avoided;
however, they can be manipulated. Managers, leaders, CEO S of companies learn to do this by
experience and training. They manipulate employee s emotions with the purpose of achieving
better performance and satisfy an organization s goals. Although people have always had
different emotions, the notion that managers need to care for employee s satisfaction and
happiness is newly implemented in the workplace. In this paper, I will be explaining the impact
of attitudes in the workplace, how mood, emotions, attitudes and behavior affect job
performance and I will implement the point of view of the CEO of the Defense Commissary
Agency, Mr. Joseph Jeu. Attitudes are defined as Relatively stable feelings or beliefs that are
directed towards specific persons, groups, ideas, jobs or other objects (P.358). Due to the
Hawthorne effect, studies suggested that attitudes, moral and production were closely linked in a
positive relationship. We could only imagine that organizations were fast to hear about this and
implement actions to improve the overall moral. However, this was not easy for them since they
had to study worker s behaviors in order to know what would be satisfying and what would not be.
In addition, they had to figure out how to measure satisfaction. According to Landy, new variables

Off Balance Sheet Financing Practices
The traditional accounting methods have been replaced by a number of new accounting techniques.
Some of which are observable while other remain hidden. Off Balance Sheet Financing or OBSF is
one of these new accounting techniques. It is a mode of obtaining finance for a business without
disclosing significant capital expenditures on the balance sheet of a company by means of using
different ways of classifying such expenses. OBSF is most of the times used by business
enterprises to maintain their leverage or gearing positions in such a way which would not have any
negative implications on the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, these expectations pose pressure on the management to find ways which may result in
better presentation of the financial statements and improved earnings (Boot and Thakor 1991). The
Banking sector in particular and other sectors in general are mostly seen following this approach.
As for instance, there has been observed a trend of investing in such portfolios and instruments
which are regarded as high risk investments. But the intention behind this is to improve or strictly
stating inflate the earnings of an enterprise without having regard to the riskiness of such
investment decisions and the fact that the stakeholders of the business need justification of such
improvements in the performance in the form of financial statements disclosures. For the purposes
of obtaining security on the risky investments, corporations tend to enter into complex third party
arrangements which cannot be disclosed in the financial statements. Apart from this, one other
motivating factor which is regarded as the major reason behind this approach of management is that
they have their own interests and objectives. As for instance, managers are better off in their
performance appraisals when the company is showing profits consistently (Boone and Raman 2001).
The practices of off balance sheet financing and accounting, as stated earlier, comprise of operating
leases, joint venture and collaborations with respect to R amp;D. Among these options,

Idealism And Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius
Berkeleyan Idealism and Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius
Jorge Luis Borges short work of fiction titled Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius grapples with many
philosophic issues. In the main, this short story deals with the philosophic notion of subjective
idealism as posed by George Berkeley s Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge.
Within this essay I argue that, while he acknowledges the presumed irrefutability of Berkeley s
argument, Borges Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius aims to disparage both totalitarianism and
Berkeleyan idealism by drawing an analogy between the two via his literary creation of the
fictitious world of Tlön.
The notion of subjective idealism, within western philosophy, is credited to the 18th century
philosopher George Berkeley. In his most notable work regarding this system of metaphysics, a
Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge, Berkeley holds that nothing exists
outside of the immaterial ideas within minds. Esse est percipi or to be is to be perceived
(Berkeley,11). Berkley s form of subjective idealism is able to avoid the problem of solipsism by
his holding that the totality of perceived ideas reside in the mind of God. This monistic system of
metaphysics runs contra to the earlier works of Locke and Descartes whose relative theories
assumed a dualist stance concerning metaphysics. The philosophic relevance of subjective idealism
is conveyed by Borges in Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, when he cites David Hume who held that

Remains Of The Day Loyalty
At the center of Kazuo Ishiguro s The Remains of the Day is a lack of loyalty to oneself in the
protagonist, Mr. Stevens, an aging butler at Darlington Hall, who is blindly loyal to his employers,
Lord Darlington and Mr. Farraday. Stevens absentminded loyalty to Lord Darlington in particular
has significant ramifications, most notably affecting his relationship with Miss Kenton, the head
housekeeper at Darlington Hall for many years. Rob Atkinson s assertion that Stevens position in
Darlington Hall resembles what students of the legal profession call neutral partisanship
(Atkinson 185) is logical. Atkinson describes how defenders of neutral partisan lawyering are also
at pains to show how the professional role they prescribe serves the public good (187).... Show more

Like these legal defenders, Stevens constantly tries to justify his complete dedication to Lord
Darlington. Stevens believes that the expectation of a distinguished butler is to be as passive and
obedient as possible; discounting whatever an employer does that is morally wrong. This blind
loyalty is quite pathetic, as Stevens suppresses his own emotions in favor of Lord Darlington s.
Although loyalty is usually an admirable quality, in The Remains of the Day, it prompts Stevens to
suppress his own feelings leaving them completely unexpressed. Stevens pursuit of greatness and
dignity is a commendable quest, but he simply goes about attaining it incorrectly, ultimately leaving
him to feel unfulfilled in both his life and his relationships with

Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis
People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and loveless
creatures. However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these thoughts nonsensical as
people can provide an abundance of support and love to those with no blood relation to them and
can embrace strangers as family. In Charles Dickenstwo novels Great Expectationsand Oliver Twist,
Dickens challenges the typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity
anyone can become a guardian or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much faith
in blood relations and look to others for sources of guidance and compassion.
Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children could find
guidance through those closest to them regardless of their non familial relationship. In Oliver
Twist, Dickens provides numerous figures to guide poor Oliver, none of which are related to
him by blood, excepting Rose. After falling ill and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the
housekeeper bestow great kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he
was their child: I have never forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side
by side with those of my own children (388). The housekeeper especially gives motherly attention
to Oliver although she has no prior relation to him. She compares Oliver to her memories of her
own progeny and therefore blatantly stands in as a mother figure in Oliver s life. By

The Relationship Between China s Economic Prosperity And...
To what extent is the relationship between China s economic prosperity and its population s quality
of life a positive one?
Introduction
For my research, I have decided to look into the relationship between China s economic prosperity
and its people s quality of life and produce a definitive answer on whether if the economic
prosperity really is all positives and no negatives.
My grandparents lived through the last decade of China s so called century of humiliation
(between 1839 and 1939), they experienced some of China s darkest times such as the Japanese
invasion and China s great leap forward which almost destroyed the country, but China always
fought back against fearful odds and after the economic reform in 1979, everything finally
seems to back on the normal tracks with China s GDP (sort of a measure of the economy) is
only second to US in 2015. With a steady supply of cheap and massive working class who could
manufacture goods at a relatively low cost, China was able to revive its economy using the
manufacturing power and that in turn has lifted over 800 million people out of poverty.
A good proportion of people in China are now regarded as middle class (a household with a third
of its income for discretionary spending) and with that, a few problems have also spawned such as
pollution and desertification, which will be touched on in this report.

Oscar Wao Essay
The ending of a novel can be evaluated by the reader in several different ways, however to
properly analyze the work is to further explore the logic of how everything has come to be. The
ability of the author to show the reader that the ending is reasonable from the preceding action and
the character s nature is what should truly be examined. Not only is the ending of The Brief
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz both happy and unhappy, it is logical in the sense that it

Trouble began to brew because of the woman, and it seemed logical to any normal person to
discontinue the pursuit; but Oscar s stubbornness that was frequently depicted in situations
throughout the novel led him to his death. In this novel there was no other way for Oscar to die
logically; he needed a big bang to bow out of his eccentric life and what better way for him, than
to die for love. True love, what Oscar had been searching for his entire life and finally found, had
killed him. The conclusion of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz is
satisfying because the ending revolved around Oscar s death, the separate stories of the novel
now intertwined because of him. His transformation and new personality was ultimately the
cause of his death, but in a sense it can be considered happy because it seems just right. Oscar
becomes a new person and breaks free of his nerdy and rejected persona. Diaz seamlessly weaves
the ending of Oscar Wao s story and all the characters around him due to their natures and the
preceding actions. The ending of this novel is convincing and logical because of Oscar s new
transformation which led him to do things which he would have not done before. These things that
he did, most specifically pursuing a woman he should not have, led him to his death. Despite the
morbid ending, it is not unreasonable; it is certainly logical and therefore satisfying to the

Changes in Policy after School Shootings
Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the
primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter
and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states
including Pennsylvania where policehad been preparing for active shooters with local schools.
Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is
why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This
response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing
schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure
goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when
law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active
shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter,
and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to
implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis,
control assembled personnel, and to communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came

Female Gangs
Since the evolution of civilization, man has always formed groups, and sects to lead a covered
life. As time passed by, the scenario changed, what turned out to be group formation for hunting
during the nomadic times led to formation of groups as tribes for waging wars, and eventually in
the urban times, now street gangs are formed in mostly developed cities, which are filled with crime
and hate towards people other than their own gangs. Gangs all over the world especially in the
United States of America, are very often very underlined as a male dominated one, and females that
were supposed to be with the gangmembers, were either their wives of girlfriends, and females who
were seen actively involved were supposed to be for sole purposes... Show more content on

Female gangs and crimes committed by females can no longer be taken as one of the incidents
which can be evident from the following: Make no mistake, these girls are not girl scouts, they are
not as organized as established male gangs, but they are getting close (Courtesy: Lieutenant Gary
French, commander of the Boston Police s Youth Violence Strike Force, Retrieved on February 9th

Females in gangs follow what is known as the gang s code of dressing, which would include
having same tattoos, same hair color and same dressing style. The system of gangs have always
incorporated a sense of brotherhood and family towards its members, and females who enter
these gangs want to take refuge away from their homes and schools, and that is why females
today who are joining gangs and are ready to go at any level to connect to the gangs;many of
them are willing to take tests like group sex with gang members or doing burglary just to prove
their mettle. The roles of females in the coming times in street gangs are more like to change for
the worse, and females will be involved in more and more gruesome crimes, because of the new
ideologies of male gang members that females who are caught are generally given a relaxed
sentence compared to their male

Essay about Humans Must Adapt to Global Warming
No one in the scientific community would argue with the premise that the earth s climate has
changed over the eons of its existence or that it will continue to change. The arguments now revolve
around if mankind s use of the environment has specifically altered our climate.
Scientists have described our world as a clump of matter that spun out of the sun to join its journey
hurling though cold and empty space. Our spaceship earth would match the moon and have no
climate had not molten core continued to pierce its cold crust, spewing forth chemicals that would
eventually form our atmosphere, our seas and life itself ( Mcphee ).
The geological record shows a tumultuous earth, but because the events occur slowly over millions

In an online edition of the Journal Science, one team suggests that glaciers flowing into the
Amundsen Sea are melting twice as fast near the coast than they has ten years age. These glaciers
help drain the West Antarctic Sea, and area that consists of enough ice to raise the sea leveltwenty
or so feet ( Revkin ). As the receding glaciers and polar ice caps part of the natural gerological
process, or is the human s comsumption of fossil fuels to blame? Do we as humans face a
dilemma of rising seas of our own making or is the earth following it own path and we can only
be observers of events that our beyond our control? The earths history is recorded in rocks, tree
ring, ice cores, and mud. We must assume that the climates were warmer or colder based on the
type of fossiled fauna left in the geological record. No actual evidence is left in rock formations
that shows the chemical make up of historic atmospheres. Scientists have recently by passed this
dilemma by coring glaciers, allowing them to look into past atmospheres as old as 750,000 years.
Glaciers are made by compaction of snow on land. As the snow compacts and gets deeper it is
subject to alteration and movement owing to its own weight and pressure (Curry 292). Snow
deposits transform into a glaciers at an average depth of about 10 meters. The deeper the firn snow

Political Theater And Consumer Culture Essay
The most essential skill in political theater and a consumer culture is artifice. Basically means that
skill they used is artifice. Its an image based culture communicates through narratives, pictures

culture have both in common of artifice. You need to master the art of entertainment and if not

Lesson plan (Fifteen Dogs Presentation) My presentation will focus on the uptake of the novel,

novel is being taken up by Twitter, and turned into a promotional device. My line of research
follows the question: How do different twitter users, use the platform to uptake the novel, and turn
it into a form of promotion? I will start my presentation by looking at the scholarship behind my
presentation, focusing on Freadman s example of the Ryan death penalty case. I will look at the

novel, and Apollo and Hermes drink there. The tweet is a clear display of promotion, as it tries
to incite the Fifteen Dogs Twitter public to come to come to the bar. The second example I will
discuss is a little more abstract. It looks at the self promotion of a freelance entertainment writer,
named Renee Gold. Gold also uses the Fifteen Dog hash tag, but she is not part of the Fifteen

I will address the idea that, Gold s Twitter feed centres around a different genre, of celebrities and
fashion. I will also explain that, this is the only time she has ever tweeted about the novel, and she
makes this tweet directly after Alexis wins the Giller Prize. It becomes evident that she is trying to

Tensions between the French and English speaking Canadians has been a topic issue for quite
some time now. Throughout the years it has been questioned as to wether or not the French and
English speaking Canadians have the potential ability to be together as a nation. Various votes
have been held in order to try and establish what the people of Canadafeel about this situation.
However, the history of the English and French speaking Canadians prove that Canada is an
impossible nation. Foreign Policies, such as the Naval Services Bill, the Boer War and Conscription
all contribute to why Canada is an impossible nation. Political Issues involving the Constitution Act,

The unilateral partition of the constitution and the refusal of other provinces to back Quebec further
alienated French Canadians. Consequently, this endured the tensions
between the nation to rise even higher than they already were because it had been stated that
many provinces didn t agree with the French Canadians and that made them subsequently bitter.
Many agree that it is getting to the point that Quebec should separate from Canada. One in three
Canadians support this statement. That is where the Referendum Act Two, 1995, takes a role in
the dispute over French and English speaking Canadians. After voting on it, the English speaking
Canadians prepare to keep Quebec in Canada. Yet, 32% said that they d rather see Quebec leave.
When asked how they d vote if another referendum took place with the same question, 49% of the
people voted yes, and 42% of the people voted no. While another referendum on secession is not
the wish of the people of Canada or
some of the people in Quebec, the stated intention is to get Quebec independence. The Clarity Act
was the PQ s plans to hold another referendum. They want to create a winning conditions and that is
what they intend to do. The government of Canada has the right and obligation to indicate what, in
a referendum on secession, it would consider to be a clear majority on a clear question. In
conclusion it is proved that due to the Constitution Act,

Katherine Carroll s Alice s Adventures, Wonderland And...
In most Victorian literature, curious women are severely punished because Victorian society
prohibited women from indulging themselves in curiosity; this idea originates from the fear that
female knowledge would jeopardize patriarchal security (Aikens 29). In contrast, the protagonist of
Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (and What Alice
Found There) does not receive punishment for her curiosity, despite living under Victorian
conditions. Instead, Carroll replaces this prohibitive standard with a standard of freedom entitled to
both genders. Most literary critics, therefore, accept Carroll as a feminist and praise him for
challenging genderstereotypes. Others, however, are hesitant to do the... Show more content on

in Cohen 16)
These gender roles are derived from natural characteristics of men and women: a woman s natural
gentleness provides the best environment for a developing child, and a man s natural intellectual
and fighting superiority make them best suited for the field (Cohen 16). Thus, while men
commuted to their place of work, women stayed home to oversee domestic duties because all
Victorians, even those who idolized women, saw [women] as the weaker sex, requiring protection
and support ; they believed that to subject the female body to any manly tasks would be to abuse it
(Cohen 18). Also, Victorian women strived for motherhood since marriage and reproduction were
of utmost importance to them; they devoted their pre marital lives to obtaining knowledge ranging
from music and singing to modern languages, solely for the purpose of attracting a husband
(Corbett 22).
Though based on general characteristics, these standards do not account for every man or woman.
Who is to say that a man cannot be as nurturing or supportive as a woman, or that a woman cannot
excel intellectually or fight adeptly? Is a woman automatically incapable of living up to her male
counterpart, or is the capability to succeed in a field dependent upon the individual and not the
gender? These are the questions Carroll addresses through his depiction of Alice, the empowering
protagonist who inadvertently challenges gender stereotypes.

From what does the self originate? For ages, humans have pondered the nature of their
personalities. Several theories have been presented over the years, One implies that a person s
traits are determined at birth and that one s personality may be ingrained into their very DNA;
while another sates that the environment in which the subject is in affects their characteristics far
more than any deep seated traits. This question, as well as many others, are topics that are brought

Essay about Mystagogy
What is Mystagogy?
BY
Walter Bradely
When considering the topic of Mystagogy and the Church s understanding of the subject it is
important to recognize the complete picture, the scope of what is covered. Looking quite
literally at Mystagogy, and perhaps a common view held by most, it is very simply the final of
four stages in the RCIA process of bringing believers into the Church. However, the context of
this paper will focus at a more in depth look at the nature of Mystagogy and its essential
relationship to the liturgical life of the Church. In doing this I will also show the relationship
between Mystagogy and exegesis, the sacraments as mysteries and the vital place of narrationes in
Mystagogy. Before an attempt to delve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t until Christ broke bread, that the disciples on the road to Emmaus recognized Jesus, it was
the grace received through the Eucharistic Sacrament that enabled the eyes of faith to penetrate the
mystery and see Christ there in their midst.
Mystagogy can be taken further in its understanding to go beyond just those newly baptized
individuals but rather instruction to all those baptized who lack understanding and zeal of the
great mysteries in the sacramental life of the Church of which they are receiving. It is a call to
all the baptized and certainly pressing given hope of a New Evangelization as called for by John
Paul II. Mystagogy has its aim at the understanding of the sacraments so that it enables the
individual to enter into and participate in that mystery in which they are partaking. The aim of all
catechesis has this as its end, to lead participants to and participate in the very life of God, to be
made one with God and ultimately return back to God. If this catechetical element is lacking then
we risk the serious issue of a hollow ritualism. Catechesi Tradendae makes this point very well,
Catechesis is intrinsically linked with the whole of liturgical and sacramental activity, for it is in the
sacraments, especially the Eucharist that Christ Jesus works in fullness for the

twiddle factors needed in the DFT structure. More specifically, it reduces the number of
calculations and changes multiplication factor to shift operations, thus maintaining the

significantly without data rate loss and does not require the extra side information. However, the

Deciding What Computer to Purchase

What kind of things does a person look for when they are deciding to buy a computer or other

Southwestern Border
On the South Western border of the United States roughly 2000 immigrants cross the border
illegally from Mexico every day. The vast majority of these immigrants are seeking financial
security and a safer life in the United States however, some are coming over to traffic weapons and
drugs for gangs and cartels. It is these few individuals that have caused the U.S. government to
pursue a multi billion dollar defense along the border.
The border between the United States and Mexico consists of 1,952 miles of land border that
divides a first world and third world nation. Any border is an environment of opportunity. People
flock to borders around the world to exploit the regions resources and people. There are always
plenty of people at the borders of nations to build large factories, or to traffic narcotics and weapons

The Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853 dictated the border
between the United States and Mexico. The people of the region that surrounds both the United
States and Mexican sides of the border have a very similar past. The original inhabitants were
Native American societies, then the Spanish came to the New World and, by a perceived divine

The Massachusetts Of Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Experiment Massachusetts has undergone many changes in their health care
system since enacting a universal health care law in 1988. The effects of the Massachusetts health

Massachusetts began its health care reform in 1988. Under the direction of Governor Michael

employer mandate; unfortunately this implementation suffered multiple postponements
(McDonough, Rosman, Phelps, Shannon, 2006). Some components of the 1988 law were
implemented and stand today: the CommonHealth program for Medicaid coverage to disabled
adults seeking to work and to certain disabled children, the Medical Security Plan provides coverage
to workers who are collecting unemployment compensation, the Healthy Start program provides
coverage to lower income pregnant women and new mothers, and the student health insurance
mandate (McDonough et al., 2006). The years 1996 to 1997 brought about another wave of health
care reform for Massachusetts. The expansions in 1996 and 1997 resulted in an increase in the
number of people enrolled in MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid program). As well, one of the
key elements of Massachusetts s safety net is

Scientific Revolution Changes
To begin with, people back then and still today don t think certain subjects are important or
necessary to have a life or live successfully. During the Seventeenth Century there were many
political issues, in addition to that they needed to add an intellectual challenge. It arrived to the
people The Scientific Revolution, it challenged conceptions and beliefs about the nature of the
world, it made people have their differences. With the Reformation and the subsequent religious
wars it had created an environment in which Europeans became more comfortable challenging both
of the ecclesiastical and political realms. The Europeans taught that with The Scientific Revolution
people should view the universe in a new way. The Scientific Revolution changed the Eighteenth

Analysis Of Abate s First Chapter On Snow White And Maria...
Differing Facts from Fictions: which Fictions?
Reading Abate s first chapter on Snow White and Maria Tatar s observation of classic fairy teles,
my mind simultaneously wonders to the recent factual events occurring in both Indonesia and the
United States. In 2015, an Indonesian (step) mother banged her 9 year old daughter to the wall,
buried her with her favorite doll, and announced to the public that her child was missing to get the
public sympathy. The nation was enraged, shocked, and were unable to explain the crime and
motivation that defy easy comprehension (Szegedy Maszak, quoted by Abate, 36). why would a
mother kill a girl that she adopted and raised ever since she was little baby? What motivated her?
In February 2016, a small town in Ohio was rocked with a criminal event that killed 8 family
members where three innocent children escaped a brutal execution style murders. The event, as
tragic as it was, received less public condemnation to the fact that the little children were kept alive.
Were the killers experienced the huntsman like moments when changed his mind about killing
Snow white, that they did not murder them?
According to Abate (48), Snow white reflects the strong past presence as well as powerful current
reality of child murder committed by the ( biological or non biological ) parents. It breaks the
silence surrounding filicide (47). Other fairy tales like Red Riding Hood (RRH), Cinderella,

Introduction
The purpose of this recommendation report is to recommend the best practice for voter
identification and consistent voting laws in the United States. The audience for this report includes
United States citizens, US Congress, those aspiring to become US Citizens. Based on my research,
I recommend that the officials of this country come together to create equal and strict voting laws to
ensure the integrity of Presidential Elections.
Background
Throughout US History, voting laws and methods has evolved tremendously. Laws governing the
US elections date back to Article 1 of the Constitution, which gave the states the responsibility of
overseeing federal elections. In order to win the presidency, as it is today, the candidate needs a
majority of 270 electoral votes out of a possible 538 (Staff). You may be asking yourself why the
US determines who wins the Presidential election based off of electoral votes rather than the
winner of the overall popular vote. The reason being, our Founders rejected a direct vote for
president; they needed a

The Negative Consequences Of Technology For Children
Often iPads, tablets, and smartphones are thought of the world s greatest advancement. Who, in
the 1980s, would have thought that they would be able to carry their phones out of their houses
and use a hand held rectangular device in which not only can make calls, but also be operated as
GPS, calculators, games and infinite amounts of different features. Of course, like everything in
the world, exploiting the use will result in negative outcomes. Parents are utilizing technology as
a form of disciplining their kids in which is only leading to isolation. Instead, parents should wait
until children are better prepared to be given such responsibility. Phones, iPads, tablets, iPods,
laptops, computers all facilitate everyday life. Computers become a necessity in a couple of jobs;
keeping files, research, reminders, etc. Multiple, effective applications of such technology can be
set in place, however, that is not what is being done. Parents are giving children such elaborate
devices for absolutely the most unreasonable intentions. Kids merely entertain themselves for far
too long, which transforms into isolation. Unknowingly growing separated from educational value,
friends, and family. For future generations only disaster emerges, but there is still a way that this
can be retained from happening and involvement of parental help is required. As technology
grows, children s ability to learn shrinks. Before toddlers can even say the word mom , parents are
already handing them

socioeconomic classes influence the achievement gap between students in America?
Describe the achievement gap between students in America
Background information of the achievement gap.
The Glossary of Education Reform defines the achievement gap as any significant and persistent

A longitudinal study conducted by Ronald Ferguson, an economist who focuses on the
achievement gap, is included in a video lecture. In this study, he discovered that people who do
not have fundamental math and reading skills or do not have a college education have received 25
percent less income since the 1970 s ( The Achievement Gap: Dr. Ronald F. Ferguson ).
Ferguson continues describing the results of his study by saying that there are not many jobs
available to people who do not have basic skills. Instead, the jobs that are available to them are
either taken by machines, low paying, or overseas ( The Achievement Gap: Dr. Ronald F. Ferguson
).
Demonstrate how differences in income between socioeconomic classes influence the achievement
gap between students in America
Statistical information concerning the achievement of students in families above and below the
poverty line.
In 1997, Smith, Brooks Gunn, and Klebanov conducted a study using data from the Children of the
National Longitudinal Survey of Youth and the Infant Health and Development Program. They
found that the poorest children scored 6 13 points lower on various tests (Blazer and Romanik).
In 2002, Lee and Burkam conducted a study using 1600 5 and 6 year olds. The results showed
that math scores were 60 percent lower than richer classes and that english scores were lower by
56 percent (Blazer and Romanik).

Medicine And Traditional Medicine
When one s body is not feeling quite right do they pick up the phone to make an appointment with
their physician? Or do they contact their grandmother for advice on what to do? For millions of
years people have used traditional medicine in the form of natural herbs and home remedies to cure
the unhealthy and prevent further disease. Furthermore, leading to the development of modern
medications.
In a world that is rapidly evolving in every aspect many cultures remain providing traditional
medicine as a primary source of healthcare. In Africa and Asia nearly 80 percent of their
populations utilize traditional practices rather than modern medicine. Traditional medicine is the
use of natural herbs and plants that are found all over the world to aid in maintaining a healthy
body. The use in herbs as medication has been found to date to 4000 5000 B.C. (Rasoulian
Kheirandish par.1). Although, more plants, trees and herbs are essentially healthy are being
discovered today (Shetty par. 2).
Traditional medicines (TMs) make use of natural products and are of great importance. Such forms
of medicine as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, Kampo, traditional Korean
medicine(TKM), and Unani employ natural products... (Yuan, Ma, Ye Piao p.1). These medications
have been manufactured by crushing the plant, herb, tree bark or root resulting in a mixture that
contains hundreds of active molecules within it. Testing the effectiveness of the molecules in the
mixture is near

Police Privacy Concerns
1.3 Privacy Concerns
While police are utilizing body cameras, it is vital to ensure privacy and confidentiality for any
information or person videotaped. That is why it is necessary for police departments to have
detailed guidelines in place. Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier recently cautioned that the
video footage will capture a broad range of information including police communications,
passwords and interiors of private residences that would need to be redacted before releasing video
(Vega, 2015, par. 7). This will take a good deal of time and resources as millions of hours of video
recordings will need to be stored and analyzed (Vega, 2015). Also, body cams worn by police could
result in a great deal of mass surveillance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Institute of Justice, at the end of 2013 only 25% of the 18,000 police
departments in the United States were using body cameras (Maney, 2014). This number has
increased greatly since 2013 as one third of police departments are now outfitting policemen
with wearable cameras (Delong, 2015). The American Civil Liberties Union has voiced
concerns about privacy regarding footage recorded on body cameras and has asked questions
about whether the scene like that of a suicide or domestic battery be made public (Vega, 2015). In
response to concerns about privacy, the President of Citizen s for Privacy authorized this study to
determine if the benefits of police worn body cameras outweigh the impact on people s privacy and
to establish some recommendations to further protect citizen s privacy with the ever growing use of

  • 2. The Internet And Its Impact On Our Lives Essay According to History.com, in 1965, ARPAnet, also known today as the Internet, was invented for military purposes. However, Tim Berners Lee had a different intention for ARPAnet. He invented the worldwide web where information was accessible for anyone. Centuries ago, to impart knowledge or information from the past and pass it from one person to another, books were created. To obtain it, they had to go to a library, read tons of books about a certain topic, jotted down and remembered the details they need. Today, all you need is an internet access and you could have an enormous amount of data at your fingertips in an object that was manufactured with the same size as a brick. Libraries were mainly used to obtain a physical evidence of a documentation needed for research, studies, papers or projects. As stated in History.com, for 56 years, the Internet had evolved. It became an ultimate tool in our daily lives. However, nothing comes without a price. Nicholas Carr, an author of the article Is Google Making Us Stupid? , published in The Atlantic as to how the Internet, specifically google, is changing the way we read and the way we interact with reading materials. On the other hand, John Battelle, an author, and a journalist, wrote a polemical article entitled Google: Making Nick Carr, But It s Made This Guy Smarter published his response to Carr in his own blog. Battelle said that I am feeling my brain light up, I and feeling like I m getting smarter whenever he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the introduction, Piper clearly states his main goal for Think and his hopes for his readers after finishing each chapter. He claims that he will not support his various arguments using only his opinions and experiences, as other authors of similar books have done, but will show his readers what is written in the Bible about those topics (16). I frame the design options that homeowners had with two themes access, and science and technology. The theme of access addresses the social, cultural, and political structures that dictated design options. The Power Of Discovery In The Tempest And Into The Wild Discoveries challenge societal and individual s beliefs of human relevance and identity through new experiences and other individuals who influence the transformation of one s inner self and the world they inhabit. Both the The Tempest and film Into the wild demonstrates the power of discovery in transforming one s perspective on themselves and the world. Shakespeare s, The Tempest explores the universeas impersonal, insinuating human irrelevance and the need for others in self transformation. Similarly, the film Into the wild communicates transformation through isolation within the natural environment by deviating from the familiar, learning forgiveness and that natureis harsh proving escapism to be more detrimental than cathartic. Both texts explore the physical power of nature and aspects of self discovery catalyzed through others and by challenging societal beliefs and encountering new human experiences. The discovery of human insignificance within the universe is revealed through the disruption of social order, provoking new worldviews and communicating the universe as impersonal. These concepts of discovery challenge the beliefs and assumptions of human power and portray human irrelevance and how isolation leads to self discovery away from society s expectations. The emotions that people go through are something that cannot be avoided; however, they can be manipulated. Managers, leaders, CEO S of companies learn to do this by experience and training. They manipulate employee s emotions with the purpose of achieving better performance and satisfy an organization s goals. Although people have always had different emotions, the notion that managers need to care for employee s satisfaction and happiness is newly implemented in the workplace. In this paper, I will be explaining the impact of attitudes in the workplace, how mood, emotions, attitudes and behavior affect job performance and I will implement the point of view of the CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency, Mr. Joseph Jeu. Attitudes are defined as Relatively stable feelings or beliefs that are directed towards specific persons, groups, ideas, jobs or other objects (P.358). Due to the Hawthorne effect, studies suggested that attitudes, moral and production were closely linked in a positive relationship. We could only imagine that organizations were fast to hear about this and implement actions to improve the overall moral. However, this was not easy for them since they had to study worker s behaviors in order to know what would be satisfying and what would not be. In addition, they had to figure out how to measure satisfaction. According to Landy, new variables to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, these expectations pose pressure on the management to find ways which may result in better presentation of the financial statements and improved earnings (Boot and Thakor 1991). The Banking sector in particular and other sectors in general are mostly seen following this approach. As for instance, there has been observed a trend of investing in such portfolios and instruments which are regarded as high risk investments. But the intention behind this is to improve or strictly stating inflate the earnings of an enterprise without having regard to the riskiness of such investment decisions and the fact that the stakeholders of the business need justification of such improvements in the performance in the form of financial statements disclosures. For the purposes of obtaining security on the risky investments, corporations tend to enter into complex third party arrangements which cannot be disclosed in the financial statements. Apart from this, one other motivating factor which is regarded as the major reason behind this approach of management is that they have their own interests and objectives. As for instance, managers are better off in their performance appraisals when the company is showing profits consistently (Boone and Raman 2001). • 16. Idealism And Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Berkeleyan Idealism and TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges short work of fiction titled TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius grapples with many philosophic issues. In the main, this short story deals with the philosophic notion of subjective idealism as posed by George Berkeley s Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge. Within this essay I argue that, while he acknowledges the presumed irrefutability of Berkeley s argument, Borges TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius aims to disparage both totalitarianism and Berkeleyan idealism by drawing an analogy between the two via his literary creation of the fictitious world of TlГ¶n. The notion of subjective idealism, within western philosophy, is credited to the 18th century philosopher George Berkeley. In his most notable work regarding this system of metaphysics, a Treatise Concerning Principles of Human Knowledge, Berkeley holds that nothing exists outside of the immaterial ideas within minds. Esse est percipi or to be is to be perceived (Berkeley,11). Berkley s form of subjective idealism is able to avoid the problem of solipsism by his holding that the totality of perceived ideas reside in the mind of God. This monistic system of metaphysics runs contra to the earlier works of Locke and Descartes whose relative theories assumed a dualist stance concerning metaphysics. The philosophic relevance of subjective idealism is conveyed by Borges in TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, when he cites David Hume who held that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stevens absentminded loyalty to Lord Darlington in particular has significant ramifications, most notably affecting his relationship with Miss Kenton, the head housekeeper at Darlington Hall for many years. Rob Atkinson s assertion that Stevens position in Darlington Hall resembles what students of the legal profession call neutral partisanship (Atkinson 185) is logical. Atkinson describes how defenders of neutral partisan lawyering are also at pains to show how the professional role they prescribe serves the public good (187).... Although loyalty is usually an admirable quality, in The Remains of the Day, it prompts Stevens to suppress his own feelings leaving them completely unexpressed. • 18. Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and loveless creatures. However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these thoughts nonsensical as people can provide an abundance of support and love to those with no blood relation to them and can embrace strangers as family. In Charles Dickenstwo novels Great Expectationsand Oliver Twist, Dickens challenges the typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity anyone can become a guardian or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much faith in blood relations and look to others for sources of guidance and compassion. Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children could find guidance through those closest to them regardless of their non familial relationship. In Oliver Twist, Dickens provides numerous figures to guide poor Oliver, none of which are related to him by blood, excepting Rose. After falling ill and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the housekeeper bestow great kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he was their child: I have never forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side by side with those of my own children (388). The housekeeper especially gives motherly attention to Oliver although she has no prior relation to him. She compares Oliver to her memories of her own progeny and therefore blatantly stands in as a mother figure in Oliver s life. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Relationship Between China s Economic Prosperity And... To what extent is the relationship between China s economic prosperity and its population s quality of life a positive one? Introduction For my research, I have decided to look into the relationship between China s economic prosperity and its people s quality of life and produce a definitive answer on whether if the economic prosperity really is all positives and no negatives. My grandparents lived through the last decade of China s so called century of humiliation (between 1839 and 1939), they experienced some of China s darkest times such as the Japanese invasion and China s great leap forward which almost destroyed the country, but China always fought back against fearful odds and after the economic reform in 1979, everything finally seems to back on the normal tracks with China s GDP (sort of a measure of the economy) is only second to US in 2015. With a steady supply of cheap and massive working class who could manufacture goods at a relatively low cost, China was able to revive its economy using the manufacturing power and that in turn has lifted over 800 million people out of poverty. A good proportion of people in China are now regarded as middle class (a household with a third of its income for discretionary spending) and with that, a few problems have also spawned such as pollution and desertification, which will be touched on in this report. The Positives Wealthier Population Quite an obvious benefit of a strong economy is a wealthier population as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Oscar Wao Essay The ending of a novel can be evaluated by the reader in several different ways, however to properly analyze the work is to further explore the logic of how everything has come to be. The ability of the author to show the reader that the ending is reasonable from the preceding action and the character s nature is what should truly be examined. Not only is the ending of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz both happy and unhappy, it is logical in the sense that it follows logically from the climax of the novel all while the character s have been constant throughout, except Oscar. Trouble began to brew because of the woman, and it seemed logical to any normal person to discontinue the pursuit; but Oscar s stubbornness that was frequently depicted in situations throughout the novel led him to his death. In this novel there was no other way for Oscar to die logically; he needed a big bang to bow out of his eccentric life and what better way for him, than to die for love. True love, what Oscar had been searching for his entire life and finally found, had killed him. The conclusion of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz is satisfying because the ending revolved around Oscar s death, the separate stories of the novel now intertwined because of him. His transformation and new personality was ultimately the cause of his death, but in a sense it can be considered happy because it seems just right. Oscar becomes a new person and breaks free of his nerdy and rejected persona. Diaz seamlessly weaves the ending of Oscar Wao s story and all the characters around him due to their natures and the preceding actions. The ending of this novel is convincing and logical because of Oscar s new transformation which led him to do things which he would have not done before. These things that he did, most specifically pursuing a woman he should not have, led him to his death. Despite the morbid ending, it is not unreasonable; it is certainly logical and therefore satisfying to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Changes in Policy after School Shootings Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states including Pennsylvania where policehad been preparing for active shooters with local schools. Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter, and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis, control assembled personnel, and to communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came after the failure of law enforcement to set up a successful command center whereas Fire and EMS successfully instituted an incident command center based on ... Essay about Humans Must Adapt to Global Warming No one in the scientific community would argue with the premise that the earth s climate has changed over the eons of its existence or that it will continue to change. The arguments now revolve around if mankind s use of the environment has specifically altered our climate. Scientists have described our world as a clump of matter that spun out of the sun to join its journey hurling though cold and empty space. Our spaceship earth would match the moon and have no climate had not molten core continued to pierce its cold crust, spewing forth chemicals that would eventually form our atmosphere, our seas and life itself ( Mcphee ). Many agree that it is getting to the point that Quebec should separate from Canada. One in three Canadians support this statement. In most Victorian literature, curious women are severely punished because Victorian society prohibited women from indulging themselves in curiosity; this idea originates from the fear that female knowledge would jeopardize patriarchal security (Aikens 29). In contrast, the protagonist of Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (and What Alice Found There) does not receive punishment for her curiosity, despite living under Victorian conditions. Instead, Carroll replaces this prohibitive standard with a standard of freedom entitled to both genders. Thus, while men commuted to their place of work, women stayed home to oversee domestic duties because all Victorians, even those who idolized women, saw [women] as the weaker sex, requiring protection and support ; they believed that to subject the female body to any manly tasks would be to abuse it (Cohen 18). Also, Victorian women strived for motherhood since marriage and reproduction were of utmost importance to them; they devoted their pre marital lives to obtaining knowledge ranging from music and singing to modern languages, solely for the purpose of attracting a husband (Corbett 22). Though based on general characteristics, these standards do not account for every man or woman. Who is to say that a man cannot be as nurturing or supportive as a woman, or that a woman cannot excel intellectually or fight adeptly? Is a woman automatically incapable of living up to her male counterpart, or is the capability to succeed in a field dependent upon the individual and not the gender? Mystagogy can be taken further in its understanding to go beyond just those newly baptized individuals but rather instruction to all those baptized who lack understanding and zeal of the great mysteries in the sacramental life of the Church of which they are receiving. It is a call to all the baptized and certainly pressing given hope of a New Evangelization as called for by John Paul II. Mystagogy has its aim at the understanding of the sacraments so that it enables the individual to enter into and participate in that mystery in which they are partaking. The aim of all catechesis has this as its end, to lead participants to and participate in the very life of God, to be made one with God and ultimately return back to God. If this catechetical element is lacking then we risk the serious issue of a hollow ritualism. • 38. How Did Lenin Contribute To The Failure Of The Provisional... The Russian Revolution of 1917 was one of the most important events of the twentieth century. Having to deal with his growing opposition and the embarrassing defeats Tsar Nicholas II faced in World War I, the Tsar was left with no choice but to abdicate his throne and get replaced by the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government however failed to disengage from WWI or resolve the economic downfall that resulted from the collapse of the old order. Due to these failures the Provisional Government also broke down and were unable to bring Russiaback to the functioning democracy it once was. Because of the lack of an operating government The Bolsheviks were able to seize power without competition, for a long time. Although Lenin s leadership is widely regarded as the reason for The... After the execution of his brother because of his involvement in anti tsarist activities, Lenin took an interest in political studies and joined many discussion groups, quickly rising to the position of leader. Lenin was also very strong willed and brilliant, making him a formidable leader. Unlike the Provisional Government which lacked support and authority, he made sure there were internal conflicts between the Bolsheviks, in turn creating a ruthless political party. Even though he had the leadership qualities that lead the Bolsheviks to victory, it should be remembered Lenin only returned to Russia after the February Revolution, therefore making the fall of the tsarist regime and the Provisional Government taking control prerequisites for the Bolsheviks rise to power in 1917. Further proving evidence that Lenin s leadership qualities were more or less a trigger factor that lead to the collapse of the old order, as he wouldn t have been able to express his leadership abilities had the Tsar still been in ... The vast majority of these immigrants are seeking financial security and a safer life in the United States however, some are coming over to traffic weapons and drugs for gangs and cartels. It is these few individuals that have caused the U.S. government to pursue a multi billion dollar defense along the border. The border between the United States and Mexico consists of 1,952 miles of land border that divides a first world and third world nation. Any border is an environment of opportunity. People flock to borders around the world to exploit the regions resources and people. There are always plenty of people at the borders of nations to build large factories, or to traffic narcotics and weapons into neighboring nations. The Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853 dictated the border between the United States and Mexico. The people of the region that surrounds both the United States and Mexican sides of the border have a very similar past. The original inhabitants were Native American societies, then the Spanish came to the New World and, by a perceived divine right, took the land away from the natives and claimed the land for Spain. After the Spanish settled into the area the English speaking nations came and claimed the lands from the earlier Spanish settlers and Native Americans who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effects of the Massachusetts health care laws are a good indicator of what people should expect from the enactment of the ACA. The multiple health care reforms in Massachusetts were in an attempt to increase health care coverage while still maintaining financial stability. Background Massachusetts began its health care reform in 1988. Some components of the 1988 law were implemented and stand today: the CommonHealth program for Medicaid coverage to disabled adults seeking to work and to certain disabled children, the Medical Security Plan provides coverage to workers who are collecting unemployment compensation, the Healthy Start program provides coverage to lower income pregnant women and new mothers, and the student health insurance mandate (McDonough et al., 2006). The years 1996 to 1997 brought about another wave of health care reform for Massachusetts. The expansions in 1996 and 1997 resulted in an increase in the number of people enrolled in MassHealth (Massachusetts Medicaid program). Who, in the 1980s, would have thought that they would be able to carry their phones out of their houses and use a hand held rectangular device in which not only can make calls, but also be operated as GPS, calculators, games and infinite amounts of different features. Of course, like everything in the world, exploiting the use will result in negative outcomes. Parents are utilizing technology as a form of disciplining their kids in which is only leading to isolation. Instead, parents should wait until children are better prepared to be given such responsibility. Phones, iPads, tablets, iPods, laptops, computers all facilitate everyday life. Computers become a necessity in a couple of jobs; keeping files, research, reminders, etc. Multiple, effective applications of such technology can be set in place, however, that is not what is being done. Parents are giving children such elaborate devices for absolutely the most unreasonable intentions. Kids merely entertain themselves for far too long, which transforms into isolation. Unknowingly growing separated from educational value, friends, and family. For future generations only disaster emerges, but there is still a way that this can be retained from happening and involvement of parental help is required.
