The Supply Chain Involved From A Growing Grape
With the global wine industry expected to generate almost $292 billion in 2014, Wine production
and its supply chain are no doubt big business. The supply chain involved from a growing grape
to an uncorked bottle is one that involves many intricate details. Because of the popularity of wine,
grapes are in fact the largest fruit crop on Earth. But that is not indicative of the complex and
interlacing processes that are necessary to grow the proper grapefor wineproduction. Proper
weather conditions, the right mixture of soil, and balanced pruning are just the tip of the
iceberg in just the first step of the entire wine supply chain. These same grapes that have been
tended to as if they were patrons of a restaurant having their own fine glass are then picked and
crushed only to be placed into containers to begin the next step of their journey. A long series of
processes including, cold soaks, must adjustments, adjustments, fermentation, and yeast addition
are where complex science and agriculture join forces. In a scene worthy of a science fiction
movie in a mad scientist s labratory, these grapes slowly become wine. Finished product can be
bottled or transferred in bulk to its next destination but will eventually land in a glass where a
final customer enjoys the fruits of all the labor involved in this harmony of moving parts. This
analysis will be a detailed report of exactly how this supply chain works and how all of these
moving parts work to bring the consumer this

Energy Costs
Energy costs There are various energy sources available in the world today. These are either
renewable sources or non renewable sources. Some of the non renewable sources include coal,
oil, and nuclear fuel while renewable resources are solar energy, wind power, biomass, geothermal
wave and tidal power, hydropower and so on. Costsupply and uncertainty are usually quite
asymmetric when it comes to the energy industry and any other industry in the world. The paper
will look at the future of energy extraction in terms of costs.it will also look at how technological
improvement have impacted energy extraction even in the wake of the depletion of convectional
sources. Cost supply and uncertainty are asymmetrical when it comes to extraction of energy. The
cost of energy extraction will determine the supply. The future of energy extraction is quite
uncertain since non renewable energy sources are slowly being depleted. The future of energy
extraction is quite uncertain which means that the cost and supply are going to be determined by
the availability of the energy sources which will be extracted. The future of extraction of energy is
determined by as a result of costs. This is because there are various techniques which are used in
extraction of energy. These techniques used all cost differently depending on the complexity of the
method of extraction that is being used. The convectional energy sources which are in existence are
slowly being depleted. This means that the

Manipulation of Bacteria Essay
MANIPULATION OF BACTERIA
INTRODUCTION:
In this experiment that we performed, there were many methods that were used to help us
manipulate and identify the bacteria E.coli on a MacConkey agar plate. The first part of the
experiment involved the methods of manipulating, identifying and counting the bacteria and the
second part was to find out whether the bacteria E.coli was the only type found in the given area by
gram staining.
E.coli was the chosen bacteria for this type of experiment. It is a gram negative bacterium that will
grow rapidly given any culture medium with the necessary energy source, nutrients, pH, and
temperature . Therefore, MacConkey Agar being the medium for its growth will enable us to
achieve the experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

METHOD FOR MANIPULATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF BACTERIA
пЃ¶Lab coat and gloves have to be worn for safety
пЃ¶Start of by ensuring the work area and equipments are clean so that there is no contamination to
your work.
пЃ¶Taking the sterile loop without holding the loop side dip inside the given bacteria culture
provided and streak the MacConkey agar plate shown below.
пЃ¶The first loop L1 is to be streaked as shown. The loop is then to be put into the sharps bin
immediately to prevent contamination of the work area and other equipments.
пЃ¶Taking a fresh loop streak L2a then using the other side of the same loop, streak L2b also.
пЃ¶A third loop L3a is then used to streak the bottom right, then flip the other side and streak the
bottom left corner L3b like the image shows.
пЃ¶Lastly, take the last loop L4 and create a squiggle in the middle of the plate. This is the
streaking procedure so that the bacteria will be spread out as much as possible for better results
during the count.
пЃ¶This is then covered and labelled ready for inoculation to make it easy to identify.
пЃ¶For the viable count, a set of dilutions have to be made. Place the 9 tubes in their stand and
add 900ul of PBS into each bottle adding it to the neat sample of bacteria culture first.
пЃ¶Sequentially, add 100ul from the previous sample to the next e.g. take 100ul from the neat
sample dilution into the following 900ul forming 10

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis
Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about
which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be.
Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World
and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally,
are often forgotten. On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap
contends that leisure is just as neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly
different statements, these works share quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In
Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence
that many blue collar workers posses as well as the positive impact that physical work can have
on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says encapsulates this more than his description
of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe the shop floor provided what school did
not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the
most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy.
(1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen where he describes how by using
our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally, by working out the parts of
the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by

Shepherd Of Hermas
The Shepherd of Hermas (sometimes called The Pastor or The Shepherd) is a Christian work of
the second century, considered a valuable book by many Christians, and occasionally considered
canonical by some of the early Church fathers. The reference to Clement of Rome suggests a date
between 88 and 97 for at least the first two visions. Since Paul sent greetings to Hermas, a
Christian of Rome (Romans 16:14), some have followed Origen s opinion that he was the author of
this religious romance. However, others set the date of composition in the 2nd century. The
Shepherd had great authority in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. It was cited as Scripture by Irenaeus and
Tertullian and was bound with the New Testament in the Codex Sinaiticus, and it was... Show more

The fifth vision introduces the Angel of repentance in the guise of a shepherd, from whom the
whole work takes its name. He delivers to Hermas a series of precepts (mandata, entolai), which
form an interesting development of early Christian ethics. The eleventh mandate, on humility, is
concerned with false prophets who desire to occupy the first seats (that is to say, among the
presbyters). Some have seen here a reference to Marcion, who came to Rome c. AD 140 and
desired to be admitted among the priests (or possibly even to become bishop of Rome). After
the mandates come ten similitudes (parabolai) in the form of visions, which are explained by
the angel. The longest of these (Similitude 9) is an elaboration of the parable of the building of a
tower, which had formed the matter of the third vision. The tower is the Church, and the stones
of which it is built are the faithful. But in the third vision it looked as though only the holy are a
part of the Church; in Similitude 9 it is clearly pointed out that all the baptized are included,
though they may be cast out for grave sins, and can be readmitted only after penance. The
Shepherd of Hermas uses many indirect citations from New Testament. He shows acquaintance
with the three Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John. He most often refers to the Epistle of
James and the Book of Revelation. He also uses Ephesians and other Epistles,

Lego s Partnership With Oil Interests And The Destruction...
On July 8th, 2014, Greenpeace released a video criticizing LEGO s partnership with oil giant
Shell. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental groups, sought to force
LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to implement offshore drilling in the
Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic
ecosystem, Greenpeace used the video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the
relationship between LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave
Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with. Keeping the
Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally, which made the video
advertisement even more potent.
Factual Assertions
Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the medium used
is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted. While this does not take
away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to determine what is actually factual.
The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed between
Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of co branding deals since
the 1960s. LEGO and Shell agreed to create a set of toys that carries the Shell logo and would be
sold at gasoline stations worldwide. The intended effect was to put LEGOs in the hands of more

Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge Essay
The Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was a definitive, but effortful, victory of the Battle of the Bulge. On
the 16th of December 1944, the Battle of the Bulge officially commenced on Belgian grounds (Cole
331). Among its many, devastating battles, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge remains the most
compelling, due to the unwavering resilience of American forces. American artilleryin this battle
arose with relative force, effectively withstanding and deflecting German forces. Victory, in the
Battle of the Bulge, eluded American forces until the fateful Battle of Elsenborn Ridge. This was
due, primarily, to the adaptive repurposing of existing weaponry, and other timely innovations. The
Americans established a rigid defensive line at Elsenborn Ridge, a portion of Belgian territory,
which became the fortuitous target of German attacks on the Roderhohe and Kodenhovel. The
Germans were pristinely equipped in this war and content in their capacity to expel American
forces. However, their hopes were tarnished as American artillery erected a formidable defense on
their attacks. The American military mounted a heap of Pozit fuze shells, proximity fuses, and
artillery adapted to diffuse the German forces (Cole 361). These attacks proved highly destructive
amid the sight of countless German and American casualties. Hence, German... Show more content

beneficial in this battle. Both sides were stricken with misery amid the frigid temperatures, and

What Is The Literary Analysis OfThe Republic Of Plato
The Republic of Plato is a fiction about a conversation. This conversation bridges a huge amount
of topics, most regarding concepts of justice or goodness. The points of the book seemingly is to
sort out what makes a good man and what makes a good city. God men and good cities, Socrates
and friends conclude, must fit a myriad of criteria. During the course of this fiction the idea of
fiction itself comes up, specifically idea s about using imitation as an art and how it makes a man
and city just or unjust. Platospeaking as Socratesdelivers a few idea s about this which all develop
as he builds his city and the characters figure that imitation in poetry is wholly unjust. In the end,
Socrates sets up idea s about the regulation of art that contradicts what Plato is doing, but he does
this to beckon the reader to specific meaning in the book itself. The Republic of Plato is told
through the lens of Socrates, this is established on the first page of narrative through notation.
Socrates: I went down to the Piraeus (327a) the book reads. Although short, this is important
regarding the fact that this notation changes the novel into a dialogue, it implies that Socrates is the
one narrating. Plato is in effect imitating Socrates. This becomes increasingly interesting as the
discourse about the just city and justiceitself progresses. Socrates and friends agree that poets won
t he use a narration like the one we described a little while ago concerning Homer s verses, and

1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why?
A temperature inversion is most likely to form on a calm night. Windy nights are not ideal for
an inversion to occur since an inversion is considered a stable layer of atmosphere as well as due to
the wind mixing the air to even out the density, remembering cold air is denser than warm air so it
will flow downhill and pool in a valley.

Symbolism In A Young Goodman Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a story based around real events that took place during the
seventeenth century. Goodman Brown is exposed to the real world and what may be the true
identity of the people around him. After seeing the truth, Goodman Brown does not know who he
can truly trust. Although Brown loves his wife and is strong in his faith, he begins to question
himself and everything around him. This story is written with foreshadowing, symbolism, and
point of view. In the story, A Young Goodman Brown
, Nathanial Hawthorne uses true events to
portray how life can sometimes be confusing and a lie.
Nathanial Hawthorn was born on July 4th 1804 and he died on May 19th 1864. His home life
helped him create this great story. His father died and left him and his siblings with his
stepmother. Nathanial took life events and created a beautiful story making people question do
you really know a person. This story really never tells if the vision Goodman Brown has is true or
just a nightmare.
Many of the characters have small roles that are very significant to the end of the story. Nathanial s
characters are flat, with little to no detail. The information given about the characters was not a
great amount. Faith is one of the first characters shown in the short story. She is a very important
key to the story because Goodman Brown loves her so. Hawthorne based A Young Goodman

Soccer Field Goal Kick
When it comes to kicking a soccer ball it depends on the force and distance of the kick. A field goal
kick will be different from a pass in a combination play. Mental preparation has to be used to be
ready for the kick. When kicking a field goal, laces kick will be used (toe down, power in knee

limb/ foot speed), or the accuracy of direction of kick, which relies on the position of the plant
(non kicking) foot and hip position at impact. There are different stages for analysis movement of

Justinian Dbq Essay
In 395 A.D., the Roman Empire split into the Eastern and Western Empires. Constantinople was the
capital of the Byzantine Empire and thrived under the leadership of Justinian, who was the emperor
from 527 A.D. to 565 A.D. Although the empire has some Roman influence, it is remarkably
different from ancient Rome, with there being markets and products from places unheard of.
Justinian also enforced Christianity and built the Hagia Sophia and created a new legal system, the

Constantinople was built by Constantine, Justinian s predecessor. Justinian built barriers on all
sides of the city to protect it from invasion. The two water barriers on opposite sides of the city
had thick walls to protect the city (Document 5). On the back side of the city where the palace
and Hagia Sophia are located, massive walls were built and the opposite side has a moat and a
wall. Therefore, the only easy entrance into the city was the Golden Gate (Document 5). Because
there are walls and barriers surrounding the city, Constantinople was safe from invasion, unlike
Rome which was easily invaded. The locations of buildings in Constantinople were very different
from Rome s. The Golden Gate, which lead into the Mese, where all of the forums, political offices,
aqueducts, and significant buildings were located (Document 5). This is completely different from
Rome, because buildings and aqueducts were scattered throughout the city. With all important
places being centralized, it makes it easier for people to be together and complete tasks more
efficiently. Because Justinian has a different mindset on how to protect and construct cities,
Justinian made a new Byzantine

The Teachability Dilemma of Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurs are a very, or perhaps the most, important boost in our economy. They do not only
take the risk for the sake of a business, but also they provide our economy with employment
opportunities and culture. A society can only be prosperous only when it rewards and encourages
entrepreneurial activity because in fact, it is the entrepreneurs and their activities that are the
critical factor for success, prosperity, growth and opportunity in any given economy.
Entrepreneurship is not easy and it comes with its own risks and up and downs. On the last decade,
entrepreneurship has rose and expanded, with this change and constant expansion, it has changed
the rules of entrepreneurship once again. But I certainly believe that... Show more content on

He or she must accept enough risk to innovate and create, but not so much that the business or
activity is not profitable.
Entrepreneurs also require certain characteristics that are necessary for success. The
characteristics of many entrepreneurs include spontaneous creativity and a willingness to make
decisions in the absence of solid data. He or she may be driven by a need to create something
new or build something tangible. As new enterprises have low success rates, a person in this role
must also have considerable persistence. He or she may have the greatest chance of success by
focusing on a market niche either too small or too new to have been dominated by established
businesses.
One of the disadvantages of being an entrepreneur is that it has a lot of vulnerabilities. For example,
entrepreneurs may face social risk if their innovations challenge societal norms, or they may face
psychological risk as their hard work affects their families peace of mind. Many find that the
independence, notoriety, and feeling of contributing something valuable to society that often come
with being an entrepreneur outweigh these dangers.
All of this values mentioned above are characteristics required in a great, perhaps on all successful,
entrepreneurs. But everybody needs to find the characteristics needed in

Overcoming Fears In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
Overcoming Fears I killed him, he said slowly. I killed that boy (Hinton 56). In the book The
Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, they talk about a boy named Johnny that killed a boy, and the growth
of a child named Ponyboy. Johhnny Cade has many names. To live on the rundown section of
Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1960 s you are not expected to be wealthy or to have an emotional
attachment to things. That is what the Greaser s were; they jumped, stole, and went to jail. People
would never expect them to be educated or that somebody loves them. The Greasers were all there
for each other, they loved one another like family. This boy, his family is the gang
. From the
backgrounds that Johnny grows up in, you can see why the names given to him. These titles are
not just words. They explain who he is. Suspicious, damaged, and a hero are all labels to
describe Johnny Cade. Suspicious is a word that describes Johnny very well. He had a nervous,
suspicious look in his eyes, and that beating from the Socs didn t help matters. (Hinton 31) The
Socs jumped Johnny and ever since the incident he was always looking around and scared that, he
was going to be in that situation again. It was killing Johnny. He had never been a coward. He was
a good man in a rumble. He stuck up for the gang and kept his mouth shut around the cops. But
after the night of the beating, Johnny was jumpier than ever. I didn t think he d get over it. Johnny

Roles Of Harry Potter And The Basildoter
Snakes and their serpentine kin play important antagonistic roles in the world of Harry Potter.
The Basilisk is the monster in Harry s second annual death courting in Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets. A Freudian analysis sees the battle between Harry and the Basilisk as a
sublimation of the Oedipal Complex. This has been recognized in books such as Classical Myths
and Films in the New Millennium. Jungians also see other archetypes in play around Harry and
snakes. However, the Basilisk was not just another of Harry s trials. The Basilisk imparted much
more in Harry s fulfillment of his story. Harry Potteris almost a trope for Oedipal. Harry has often
and clearly been diagnosed with the Oedipal complex. The elements are similarly often and
clearly portrayed throughout the series. Lily s undying love saves Harry through her own death. It
is a transcendent love for her son. Voldemort had imparted part of his soul onto Harry, which is
pivotal to his defeat. Voldemort is a part progenitor that Harry kills. Even his wife Ginny is
portrayed with semblances of Harry s mother. In accordance to Freudian Theory of Eros Thanatos,
the libido is unable to satisfy the Life Drive, therefore the Death Drive becomes dominant. Harry
kills the forbearer that prevents him from relations with his mother. Then sublimates that continued
frustration with marriage and career. Psychoanalysis is very cut and dry in terms of explanation. In
fact, Freudian interpretations pass over snake

Tay Sach s Case Study
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the hereditary genetic disease Tay Sach s, discovered
during a pregnancy. The discussion will focus on developing an interdisciplinary team and care
plan for the expectant parents based on their wishes. This paper will also cover any ethical and/or
legal dilemmas that may arise as well as identify counseling needs of those involved. In addition,
there will be a personal reflection about high risk pregnancy, abortion, and the decision made by the
expectant parents.

Signs and symptoms of the disease do not begin to surface until the child is around six months of
age and it begins with gradual dysfunction of the motor skills. As the nervous system further
degrades the symptoms become worse and the child loses sight, hearing, and mental functionality.
Unfortunately there is no treatment for Tay Sach s except comfort measures and the life
expectancy for a child with infantile Tay Sach s disease is typically four to five years
(Ainsworth, 2011). The physician would need to emphasize that maternal age or lifestyle does not
have any part in the cause of this diagnosis. The physician would then need to explain the options
available at this time which are carrying the child to term or terminating the pregnancy via
therapeutic abortion (Tay sachs.org). Depending on the parent s decision, should they choose to
carry the child, they can also choose to care for the infant or place it for adoption. After the
physician has spoken with the family, the RN would need to be there for the family, not only to
listen, but again to answer any questions they may have.
Mr. and Mrs. Trosack have decided to carry their infant to full term and care for their child due to
their religious beliefs. At this time the RN would be responsible to clarify and document the parents
wishes. The RN would be responsible for coordinating appointments with the specialists that

A Study on California s Smoking Ban
California s Smoking Ban
(APA Citation)
It was in 1964 that the Surgeon General of the United States first published a report on the ill
effects of smoking cigarettes, and within a year the first law requiring health warnings on cigarette
packages was in effect. From that point, the government has slowly, but continually, imposed more
and more restrictions on the use of tobacco products. Throughout the 1960s, 70 s, 80 s, and 90 s,
the both individual jurisdictions within the State of California, as well as the entire state, continued
to impose tougher and tougher restrictions on smoking cigarettes until 1994, when California
became the first state in the union to pass a law which completely prohibited smoking in most
enclosed workplaces. ( Secondhand Smoke Exposure ) This law, which took effect in 1998,
restricted smoking in all enclosed places of employment including offices, factories, bars and
restaurants. But by the early 21st century, the current restrictions were not enough for California s
lawmakers and a push was started to ban smoking in all public places. Since the passage of these
restrictions in the 1990 s, there has been a great deal of change in the state with advocates of the
smoking ban pointing to the increased health benefits for the citizens of the state, while opponents
focus on the economic damaged in the business community caused by the restrictions. It is
therefore necessary to examine the State of California and its ban on smoking and how it has

Reclamation may be funded by a private investor to develop land for means of building on. This
may also incorporate the demolition of building and areas of land which could be make way for
new developments. Building Maintenance Facilities Management can be controlled by a private
company working for a government origination.
These jobs will require trades such as structural engineers who work on houses, hospitals, bridges

balance of a slave and free states in the Union to 15 a piece. It also created more tension between
the north and the south.

Analysis Of Tim Burton s The Brilliant Joker Essay
It is easy to empathize with Jack Nicholson s brilliant Joker as he laments in Tim Burton s classic
1989 film, Batman, Where does he get those wonderful toys? The average person may not be
villainously inclined, but one can certainly relate to having their best laid plans constantly being
thwarted. Though, to be fair, probably very few people would take issue with someone as awesome
as the Batmangetting in their way. Despite being a mere mortal, Batman and his fellow graphic
novel heroes serve as present day gods akin to the ancient Greek gods of Rome. There are a great
many things that set Batman apart from his colleagues, however; chief among them are his tragic
origin story, the best villains in modern literature, his total lack of superpowers, wealth, and endless
interpretations.
Everyone loves a good origin story. Superman s parents are killed in the explosion of their home
planet, Krypton, and spare him from the same fate by shipping him off to earth on a spacecraft.
Spider Man, who was already living with his aunt and uncle because his parents died while he
was still a child, witnesses his beloved uncle Ben die in front of his eyes at the hands of a thief.
Yet Batman s origin tale easily surpasses both in terms of flair for the dramatic. As a child, young
Bruce Wayne is walking with his parents, Thomas and Martha, through an alley after having left a
screening of the Mark of Zorro. Gunmen seeking to steal Martha s exposed pearls approach the
family. An altercation

Effects Of Martial Law In The Philippines
On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos issued Proclamation 1081, declaring
martial law over the Philippines. It has been 44 years since that dreadful day, but the scars still
remain in the heart of every Filipino citizen. Martial Law proclaims that an area is placed under
the control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is usually imposed when the government or
civilian authorities fail to function effectively. The reason behind the declaration of Martial Law in
the Philippines was to suppress a series of bombings, threat of a communist takeover, and an
assassination attempt on Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile in Mandaluyong. This was also
imposed to save the republic and to improve the social, economic, and political... Show more

However, these good gains did not last long. Basic human rights were not attained during the
Martial Law. People at that time did not practice being disciplined at that time, but instead, they
followed orders because they feared the authorities who had the power to arrest civilians who
would disobey the rules. With power given to the military to save democracy, they committed a
number of human rights violations. An estimate of 7,000 victims of torture, 2,000 people
salvaged, and 1,000 people disappeared. (Malanes, 1999) Statistics are not just numbers. This
was a serious case of human rights violation wherein thousands of lives were lost and thousands
of families destroyed. Thus, the Martial Law is considered as the darkest days of democracy.
Human rights violations is the best evidence that there was no democracy in the Philippines during
Ferdinand Marcos regime. Additionally, the economic crisis and debt crisis caused by the Martial
Law made the country suffer. Unemployment rates were high and poverty in the Philippines only
grew larger. A lot of people remember fondly the peace and order brought by the Martial Law, but
the brutal side of the Marcos regime brought us Filipinos into hardships, sufferings, and

Different Abilities That Set Humans Apart From Other Lives...
One of the unique abilities that set humans apart from other life forms is the ability of speech
production. Although it occurs involuntarily the act of speaking can be traced back to neural
level even before the muscles are directed to move or before the first breathe is taken to supply
the energy source for speech. Most people may not realize it but the fact is saying a word or even
a sound is quite laboring on the body, especially when it must occur rapidly to even create a single
sentence.
Before a word or even a sound is produced the respiratory and phonatory systems must be activated
and set into motion. Respiration which fuels the body is defined as the exchange of gas between an
organism and its environment (Seikel, page 35), while Phonation is defined to be the product of
vocal fold vibration which occurs within the larynx (Sekiel, page 165). In preparation to breathe, the
diaphragm must move inferiorly giving the lungs room to expand. This intake of air must travel a
great distance from either the nose or mouth, down through the larynx, and into the trachea, bronchi
and, finally, lungs. While simply breathing, the air will travel through the vocal folds which remain
in the abducted position. During speech production the vocal folds will adduct causing the air
traveling through them to create a rippling effect as the folds vibrate. It is important to note this is
merely the beginning stage at this point and that sounds produced at this point would resemble that

synthetic food dyes in food and cosmetics
Food dyes are additives that help to give food and other items a more colorful and appealing

and in some cases, bugs. However, as time went on, other ways to make food dyes were created.
Natural food dyes lead to synthetic coal tar food dyes, and eventually synthetic coal tar food dyes

Wells Fargo shows a much higher profitability ratio than Samsung, with over 8X that of
Samsung. This is to be expected as services are typically more profitable than hardware sales
which operate on leaner margins. Wells Fargo also outperforms Samsung significantly on return on
sales with over 25X better performance. This again is attributable to better margins on services
than hardware. Wells Fargo has a much stronger return on equity than Samsung with a Dupont ratio
over 5X higher than Samsung s. Samsung has a stronger financial leverage ratio than Wells Fargo
with almost 20% lower ratio for Samsung. Samsung also has a much lower total asset turnover
than Wells Fargo. This is attributable to the quick turnover of assets in the manufacturing industry
compared to the slow turnover of assets in the financial services sector. With Samsung being the
only international company evaluated, there doesn t seem to be any significant impact of IASB

For different purpose, the different GDP frames will be used. Real GDP is the value of final goods
and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year;
Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the
prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages
of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential
GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can
be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the
expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total
consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In
this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the
G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The change of
these components will eventually affect real GPD. The expenditure approach is important because
it can tell the government of consumers demand so that the government can better allocate
resources. It can also convey the economic situation signals to the central bank to help them to carry
out macroeconomic regulation and control. The figure 1 below shows the aggregate expenditure

Atlit Yam Essay
Atlit Yam in Israel
Atlit Yam is a typical Neolithic site submerged in the Mediterranean Sea, near the coast of Haifa,
Israel (Holloway, 2014). This ancient village, aging 9,000 years old, started to be excavated in
1990s (Marchant, 2009). There have been numerous remains discovered by archaeologists,
including a large amount of houses and walls, a water well surrounded by stone baluster, a large
number of human remains and plenty of artefacts made by stone, wood and bone (Holloway,
2014). One of the most exciting discoveries is some skeletons of women and children, which have
been confirmed to be the earliest known cases of tuberculosis (Marchant, 2009). This settlement
provides an excellent chance to study life in the Neolithic Age.
Reasons of the subsidence of Atlit Yam are complicated. Basically, the erosion of saltwater, the
tectonic effects and eustatic effects may all make contribution to the submergence of the village.
With the erosion of saltwater, the well in Atlit Yam was contaminated badly so that the village
was abandoned by its people, not long before it was covered by sand and water (Marchant, 2009).

The recent underwater discoveries led by archaeologists from the University of Cambridge and the
University of Nottingham show that some of the part of the submerged city can be dated from at
least 2,800 B.C., far more earlier than the assumption of 1,600 B.C. to 1,100 B.C., which even
contains a larger number of material valuable to be studied (Marchant, 2009). Unlike some
submerged settlements which are lack of planning and contracture, Pavlopetri has already

Discoveries In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
Siddhartha s Discoveries
Happiness is something every human being strives for. Most individuals would do anything to
achieve this state. It can be as slight as having a good hair day or something as extreme as
moving to a different location. There is a certain type of happiness that is a freedom of any
trouble. This type of happiness is called peace. A very select few people will do absolutely anything
to attain this type of happiness. A young gentleman named Siddharthais one of those people. In the
book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha goes off on a journey to find inner peace.
Throughout his expedition, he became the extremes of being dirt poor to filthy rich. He left the
dearest people in his life to accomplish his goal of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Eventually, Siddhartha worked his way up to become one of the wealthiest people in the town.
Unfortunately, the price for his riches was his ethics. Siddhartha adapted to the environment
round him and he lost any enlightenment he ever had and became part of the Child People ,
which is what Siddhartha called anything that was lost in the trace of regular lifestyle. He
became so dissatisfied with his life, not understanding why. He had all anyone could ask for
right. He had a money and a beautiful woman who was now teaching him the ways of love. Then
he realized why his life was so problematic at the time. He was dependent on only materialist
items and ideas. This whole world of Kamaswami people had been but a game to him, a dance
that one goes to see, a comedy. (Hesse 67)Siddhartha started to think that his life at the time was a
joke; all the items he had would never have any sentimental value to him. Even Kamala, who he
was supposed to love, never really had a connection. He repeated prior mistake of believing that
someone can teach a feeling. As Siddhartha learned this new way of thinking, he went back to the
path of spiritual

John Malcolm Fraser Research Paper
John Malcolm Fraser was an Australian politician who was the 22nd Prime Minister of Australia
and the Leader of the Liberal Party from 1975 to 1983. On the 16th of december, 1976, was the
enactment of Aboriginal Land rights (Northern Territory) Act. This act secured the Aboriginal right
to their ancestors land. This act is significant in that it was the first of the Aboriginal land rights acts,
allowing for a claim of title if claimants can provide evidence of their traditional association with
land. His motivation, contribution and involvement has still not to this day been forgotten by the
Aboriginal people.
Malcolm Fraser did not believe that Aboriginals were being treated fairly and this showed in his
contribution to the Aboriginal Land rights act. The Northern Land Council s chairman, Mr Samuel
Bush Blanasi, said Mr Fraser was a great friend of Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. Mr

This was watered down from the Whitlam proposals but remains a significant milestone in both the
recognition of Aboriginal rights and their practical fulfilment. His government also established the
Human Rights Commission whose work has continued to monitor and advocate for the human
rights protections of all Australians, with a special role in relation to Indigenous people. His
government also took some important measures in terms of the protection of the Australian
environment. It was the Fraser government that prohibited exploration and drilling on the Great
Barrier Reef. The Aboriginals would have looked very highly on him for this, as he is involved in
saving their land. By providing legal title and a measure of control over some of our traditional
lands, the Act has allowed us to determine the pace and extent of our involvement in the broader

Section 2: Results based on high horizontal resolution IR and microwave data
Figure 2 shows the radially averaged horizontal temperature structure in TCs inferred from AMSU

Anomalies are with respect to the temperature observed at 600 km away from storm center at each
height. The UT warming bulges upward near storm center where the convective activity is
strongest. Relative to the chosen background, the LS cooling occurs at 17 km above sea level or
about 100 mb as shown in Koteswaram [1967] and at about 200 km away from storm center,

The horizontal resolution is 4 km. While the evolution of the intensity of TCs is rather symmetric
about the time of first LMI (personal communications with John Knaff), the convective structure
is not: the coldest cloud tops occur prior to first LMI. Brightness temperatures between 4 and 2
days are associated with the presence of deep convective outbursts within a few hundred
kilometers of storm center. Between 2 and 0 days, brightness temperatures are consistent with the
formation of a sustained ring of deep convective clouds between the outer edge of the eye and
100 km away from storm center (e.g., Heymsfield et al. [2001], Emanuel [2003]). After 0 days,
both the intensity of TC systems and the heights reached by deep convection decrease rather
rapidly, which translates to warmer brightness temperatures. Compared to Figure 2, the coldest
cloud tops occur about 100 km inward of the coldest temperature anomalies at first LMI. Warmer
brightness temperatures within 30 km of storm center at 0 days correspond to the clear moat
observed inside the eyewall [Willoughby, 1998].

Decision For Setting Non Financial Targets Essay
Introduction
In the rapidly changing business environment, there is enormous pressure to conduct activities in a
better, controlled and efficient manner. The accelerating change creates uncertainties and
complexities thus creating challenges for management in their strategic plans. Management cannot
continue to rely on Management Accounting Control Systems whose primary emphasis is on
financial targets since such traditional analytical approaches can fail to adapt to the quick and
unexpected economic landscape. This paper provides that managers must not rely on quantitative
performance targets hence supports the argument for setting non financial targets in organizational
objectives
Discussion
The measurement of performance is a great challenge in the contemporary business world since the
non financial targets are hard to ascertain. It implies that an organization could end up with
inefficient and ineffective MACS that lead to poor utilization of resources and ultimately increase
the probability of organizational failure. The increasing strategic uncertainty creates a problem to
quantify the non financial factors that could be incorporated in internal controls (Hirst, 1983).
Unavailability of qualitative targets also creates cases of dysfunctional behaviors by subordinates in
achieving organizational objectives. For a holistic perspective on performance, control strategies
must incorporate non financial indicators since the gains are more than the associated costs (Otley,

Louisiana Purchase Thesis
Introduction My history day topic for 2016 is the Louisiana purchase: the deal between France
and the United States and the westward expansions to this new land. A historical event that took
place in the year of 1803, where america was a new land a young republic if you will where
pioneers had just broken form a king and started a new land with hopes of expanding from shining
sea to shining sea, the specific event that happened was that Thomas Jefferson( the president at that
time) bought land from France but more specifically he bought 828,000 thousand acres of land
almost three cents an acre, this almost doubling the size of what we now call the U.S.A.

Another reason was that far across on a different land,if napoleon hadn t bought the land hadn t

Professional Learning Community Analysis
Professional Learning Community is not a term I would use to describe my school. The textbook
describes Professional Learning Communities as, ...one that promotes and values learning as an
ongoing, active collaborative process with dynamic dialogue by teachers, students, staff, principal,
parents, and the schoolcommunityto improve the quality of learning and life within the school
(Roberts Pruitt, 2009 p.6). Based on that description alone, as a school we lack the basic
components of having a collaborative process with dialogue from the teachers, staff, and principal
with the focus on improving the quality of learning. Given all of the research findings and positive

Some teachers are naturally hesitant to try new things, but I present the program as a trial run, the
teachers know that if we implement something that s not working we will examine steps to fix it
together. My principal does a great job with this, she listens to the teacher s ideas or suggestions
and will find solutions to any problem. Next, I asked, What are some benefits and challenges of
PLCs? Ms. Alexander paused and thought for a moment, the benefits are that teachers work
together with a purpose, they talk about student learning, and the teachers share the same vision.
The challenge is maintaining consistency across the board and motivating every teacher to stay
committed. I have witnessed the challenge with maintaining consistency on a few occasions at my
school. For instance, teachers were randomly grouped together for a teambuilding activity, in which
teachers had to share with their group members common challenges they face every school year.
The group members then developed a short list of tips or strategies that the teacher could use to
remedy whatever challenges they were facing. As

doc.com proposes a change from a function orientation to a process orientation through facilitating a
streamlined customer journey. Instead of a patient considering what procedures they have at the
hospital, family doctor, and specialist seperately, doc.com creates connectivity between business

Informal And Informal Language
Informal Language is Dependent on Context
Many of us switch between formal and informal language without much thought. It has become
almost instinctual to adapt the appropriate language to the purpose, audience and the social setting
of the discourse. Informal language includes the use of discourse particles, hypertaxis and non
standard syntax which are used to increase social proximity, promote in group membership and
reinforce the exclusivity of the group. The use of informal language largely depends on context:
where the conversation is upheld, what text type and mode it is in and the audience to which it is
directed to.
The situation plays an imperative role into the degree in which informal language is used. Teenage

The spoken mode, in general, is much more personal and informal than the written with slimmer
chances of misunderstandings and responses tend to be instantaneous rather than delayed. While
the written mode is more scripted and usually appears without non fluency features, the spoken
mode involves many prosodic and paralinguistic features could be used including stress, large
range of volume (from whispering secrets to exclamations) and a rising intonation can help the
speaker hand over the floor. Fast pace can sometimes be understood as informal because the
information may not necessarily be viewed as important and a slower to medium pace may be
used to ensure the audience is comprehending what is said, this speed is more often used in formal
language. Informal body language may also be used such as waving of hands or excitedly jumping
whilst formal, in comparison, would include standing still and without the blatant display of
emotion. By reviewing the previous Ja mie example, we can see that not only does her situation
change, but her audience also changes from close friends to her peers, their parents, and her
teachers. Ja mie shows how informal language builds the private identity of her friendship group
and how formal language distances herself from her public audience. Audience predetermines
whether informal language should be used depending on the relationship between speaker and
listener, private or public, and if the

Language in my Thought and my Action
Since I was born, I have been learning languages consciously and unconsciously without asking
why. S.I. Hayakawa and Alan R. Hayakawa s Language in Thought and Action remind me the goal
of the study of language to learn to think more clearly, to speak and to write more effectively, and
to listen and to read with greater understanding.
This book is divided into 2 parts, the functions of language and language and thought. The deepest
debt of the author in this book is to the general semantics. It is designed to educate the reader using

The Open and Closed Mind
Hayakawa summarized The Open and Closed mind on pages 131 3. It tells that people with
closed minds apparently feel threatened and fearful. If someone trusted the speaker, but rejected
his statement, he would view the speaker as unconsciously on the enemy side. If someone rejected
the speaker, the statement is unacceptable to him too. He rejects both. They are two valued people,
which have to like everything about the speaker or nothing. Reasonably secure and well organized
persons enjoy their own belief system, but they are also open to information about their disbeliefs
system. They can empathize with persons who hold others ideas that they do not believe in, is to
have an open mind.
A question raised up in my mind is that, am I a news anchor with an open mind? Theoretically,
anchor should be open minded, to writing the true story and report the fact o the audiences. But, if
I am a closed mind anchor, I know in advance which side I am on, and engage the correspondent or
accept the article that will give aid and comfort to that side. Forsaking the obligation to illuminate, I
may turn on the heat. However, the result is inevitable: the other side fights back. But in this world,

I Heard A Fly Buzz
Death, Where Is Thy Sting?
Jim Morrison once wrote: It s strange that people fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At
the point of death, the pain is over. Most people view death with reverence, fear, and maybe
some sadness, but the authors of I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died , Death, Be Not Proud ,
Because I could not stop for Death treat it as if it s trivial thing that you can make fun of. They
were a little different, but they helped to Especially in their time period, when poets had a stiff
and staunch view of serious things , which to them was almost everything. They paved the way
for people to not be afraid of death, but instead view it as the passing from one body into paradise,
with death being the middle man. I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died , by Emily Dickinson, Death, Be
Not Proud , by John Donne, Because I Could Not Stop for Death , by Emily Dickinson, are all
poems that deal with the subject of death, but not in the normal way.
I heard a fly buzz when I died, written by Emily Dickinson in free verse, is a poem about an
interesting turn to a somber occasion. The poem starts out by telling us about someone on her
deathbed. It tells us of all her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It begins by talking about how people think that death is something they should be afraid of, and
that death is proud of its power , but Donne explains that we should have no fear of it. Death thinks
that it has the power to kill us, but in reality he really doesn t. He is actually helping us, if we are
Christians, to reach our end goal, heaven. If we die, then we just end our lives on this sinful and
lost planet and begin our life with our savior in heaven. Donne basically spends most of the end
of the poem mocking death and calling it a slave . He ends by saying that Death, thou shalt die ,
which reminds us that someday Jesus will destroy death and pain and suffering forever and we will

How Is Siddhartha Successful
Great achievement is always correlated with fame and riches, but is that all? What about happiness,
knowledge, and family? In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, the most successful characters
are Siddhartha and Vasudeva. Based on their pursuit of knowledge, evaluating themselves and their
psychological happiness, they have both become the characters that have lead a successful life.
Leading a successful life is no easy task, they are faced with many obstacles.
Initially, Siddhartha would ve been the successful character of the two, but thinking back on
Vasudeva and how he had his priorities straight from the beginning, it would make him be more
prosperous in life. The article How 9 Incredibly Successful People Define Success says, Zappos ...

Vasudeva left into the woods to die peacefully once he reached perfection, unity. This relates to

many skills Siddhartha now has. Listening and giving advice to others, taking them across the river,

Russi A Nation Of Power
From the beginning of ancient history, Russia had been eager in becoming a nation of power.
Russia would become a nation that would face many struggles. Its fight for world domination
would see power change hands many times. Those struggles and sacrifice of time, money and lives
would pay off in the end, as Russiawould become the second highest power next to the United
States. Russia is a country (Capital, Moscow) with a population of 142.5 million people with the
major language being Russian. The people of Russia practice religions in Christianity, Buddhism,
Islam and Judaism.
Ancient Russia In the beginning, Russia was never really Russia, as we know it to be today but
a group of cities coalesced into an empire. In the early ninth century, the Varangians crossed the
Baltic Sea and landed to Eastern Europe. The Varangian people were lead by a semi legendary
warrior named Rurik. In 862, he would lead his people into the city of Novgorod on the Volhov
River. To this day, it is uncertain if his rule was one which would be taken by force or if he was
invited. Rurik would invest a lot of time in the city of Novgord. In 882 Rurik s successor, Oleg
would help him to extend his power southward. Oleg would gain control of a Slavic city called
Kiev. Kiev would become the center of a trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople. The
empire would flourish for the next three hundred years under a new name, Kievan Rus. In 989, the
Oleg s great grandson would become

The Women At The Tomb
The Women at the Tomb. (Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of Christ began
with the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three resurrection stories that
highlight the resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels appear to the women telling the good
news of a living Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the second is Jesushimself who delivers the message of
the resurrection to the two disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope,
Jesus appears to the eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends
with the story of the ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and
connection to the book of Acts of the apostles, which is also written by the same author. Luke s
style suggests that he used various sources to write this pericope. The pericope occurs in all three
gospels and even in John . It is situated after the passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison
reveals the following common details which build the story: 1) the women go to the tomb to
prepare Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the week early in the morning. 3)
They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a report. 5) It is followed
by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles and 7) the apostles responded
to the women s report. Darrel Bock says that only 17 of Luke s 169 terms are in agreement with
Mark. Luke s account complements the other Gospels giving

Coffee Commodity Chain And Its Effects On The Global South
Through out this essay I will discuss the coffee commodity chain and its effects on the Global
South. This essay will also, illustrate the impact coffee has on boosting developing countries
economies while, looking into Fairtrade and its links to the commodity chain.
The world in terms of development is divided in two, which is known as the North South divide this
shows a separation between developed and developing countries. This separation is caused by
economic, social and environmental factors, economy being the clearest and most prominent
influence. For many countries in the Global South coffee is their main income, and as a result is
highly important to their economy. For instance if coffee decreases in price then farmers will not
earn enough surplus to keep their farms and what follows is a life of poverty. The following are the
world s top exporters in coffee (as of July 2016, in thousands 60kg bags): 1. Brazil with 1,926 2.
Vietnam with 1,650 3. Columbia with 489 4. India with 412 5. Honduras with 403
This is a clear indication that even though these are developing countries they still remain the
highest exporters, which signals they re not entirely benefiting from their produce or in fact
receiving enough money for them. World exportation of coffee grew by 9.5% in August 2016,
compared to August 2015 (ICO 2016). This displays an increase in demand for coffee therefore in
retrospect farmers should be able to increase their prices to

Rising College Tuition in America
Rising College Tuition in America College Prices Soar Again! Budget Cuts Cause Even Higher
Tuition! Higher Education Now Even Less Affordable These are all statements that have been
seen all over the media: newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. (3 SV: SV) Rising college
tuition in America has been a problem for years. Many students drop out after a single year due
to the pricey costs of tuition. The rapid rise can be attributed to many aspects of the economy, not
just a single source. There have also been some propositions of how costs could be lowered, but
these have yet to be seen. The United States has gone into a tuition crisis. Tuition rates have been
on the rise since the start of colleges. In 1988, the average college tuitionwas about $2,800 for a
year of schooling. In 2008, that number had risen 130% to nearly $6,800 for one year; according
to Annalyn Censky of CNN Money, if the average income had raised the same amount, median
family earning would be roughly $77,000 a year, instead of the current $33,000. Americans are
making $400 less on average than they did in 1988 says Censky. Over the past twenty years, college
has risen 5% of the median family income from 12% to 17%; private colleges went from 27% to
47% says Economist.com. (1 SV; SV.) Tuition isn t the only thing rising at colleges: room, meals,
books, and other fees are rising as well. (4 SV: A,B,C,D.) This also takes its toll on families as well
as the students themselves. Many students

  • 2. The Supply Chain Involved From A Growing Grape With the global wine industry expected to generate almost $292 billion in 2014, Wine production and its supply chain are no doubt big business. The supply chain involved from a growing grape to an uncorked bottle is one that involves many intricate details. Because of the popularity of wine, grapes are in fact the largest fruit crop on Earth. But that is not indicative of the complex and interlacing processes that are necessary to grow the proper grapefor wineproduction. Proper weather conditions, the right mixture of soil, and balanced pruning are just the tip of the iceberg in just the first step of the entire wine supply chain. These same grapes that have been tended to as if they were patrons of a restaurant having their own fine glass are then picked and crushed only to be placed into containers to begin the next step of their journey. A long series of processes including, cold soaks, must adjustments, adjustments, fermentation, and yeast addition are where complex science and agriculture join forces. In a scene worthy of a science fiction movie in a mad scientist s labratory, these grapes slowly become wine. Finished product can be bottled or transferred in bulk to its next destination but will eventually land in a glass where a final customer enjoys the fruits of all the labor involved in this harmony of moving parts. This analysis will be a detailed report of exactly how this supply chain works and how all of these moving parts work to bring the consumer this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten. On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally, by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by ... • 10. Shepherd Of Hermas The Shepherd of Hermas (sometimes called The Pastor or The Shepherd) is a Christian work of the second century, considered a valuable book by many Christians, and occasionally considered canonical by some of the early Church fathers. The reference to Clement of Rome suggests a date between 88 and 97 for at least the first two visions. Since Paul sent greetings to Hermas, a Christian of Rome (Romans 16:14), some have followed Origen s opinion that he was the author of this religious romance. However, others set the date of composition in the 2nd century. The Shepherd had great authority in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. It was cited as Scripture by Irenaeus and Tertullian and was bound with the New Testament in the Codex Sinaiticus, and it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fifth vision introduces the Angel of repentance in the guise of a shepherd, from whom the whole work takes its name. He delivers to Hermas a series of precepts (mandata, entolai), which form an interesting development of early Christian ethics. The eleventh mandate, on humility, is concerned with false prophets who desire to occupy the first seats (that is to say, among the presbyters). Some have seen here a reference to Marcion, who came to Rome c. AD 140 and desired to be admitted among the priests (or possibly even to become bishop of Rome). After the mandates come ten similitudes (parabolai) in the form of visions, which are explained by the angel. The longest of these (Similitude 9) is an elaboration of the parable of the building of a tower, which had formed the matter of the third vision. The tower is the Church, and the stones of which it is built are the faithful. But in the third vision it looked as though only the holy are a part of the Church; in Similitude 9 it is clearly pointed out that all the baptized are included, though they may be cast out for grave sins, and can be readmitted only after penance. The Shepherd of Hermas uses many indirect citations from New Testament. He shows acquaintance with the three Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John. He most often refers to the Epistle of James and the Book of Revelation. He also uses Ephesians and other Epistles, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Lego s Partnership With Oil Interests And The Destruction... On July 8th, 2014, Greenpeace released a video criticizing LEGO s partnership with oil giant Shell. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental groups, sought to force LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to implement offshore drilling in the Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic ecosystem, Greenpeace used the video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the relationship between LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with. Keeping the Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally, which made the video advertisement even more potent. Factual Assertions Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the medium used is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted. While this does not take away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to determine what is actually factual. The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed between Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of co branding deals since the 1960s. LEGO and Shell agreed to create a set of toys that carries the Shell logo and would be sold at gasoline stations worldwide. The intended effect was to put LEGOs in the hands of more ... On the 16th of December 1944, the Battle of the Bulge officially commenced on Belgian grounds (Cole 331). Among its many, devastating battles, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge remains the most compelling, due to the unwavering resilience of American forces. American artilleryin this battle arose with relative force, effectively withstanding and deflecting German forces. Victory, in the Battle of the Bulge, eluded American forces until the fateful Battle of Elsenborn Ridge. This was due, primarily, to the adaptive repurposing of existing weaponry, and other timely innovations. The Americans established a rigid defensive line at Elsenborn Ridge, a portion of Belgian territory, which became the fortuitous target of German attacks on the Roderhohe and Kodenhovel. The Germans were pristinely equipped in this war and content in their capacity to expel American forces. However, their hopes were tarnished as American artillery erected a formidable defense on their attacks. The American military mounted a heap of Pozit fuze shells, proximity fuses, and artillery adapted to diffuse the German forces (Cole 361). • 13. What Is The Literary Analysis OfThe Republic Of Plato The Republic of Plato is a fiction about a conversation. This conversation bridges a huge amount of topics, most regarding concepts of justice or goodness. The points of the book seemingly is to sort out what makes a good man and what makes a good city. God men and good cities, Socrates and friends conclude, must fit a myriad of criteria. During the course of this fiction the idea of fiction itself comes up, specifically idea s about using imitation as an art and how it makes a man and city just or unjust. Platospeaking as Socratesdelivers a few idea s about this which all develop as he builds his city and the characters figure that imitation in poetry is wholly unjust. In the end, Socrates sets up idea s about the regulation of art that contradicts what Plato is doing, but he does this to beckon the reader to specific meaning in the book itself. The Republic of Plato is told through the lens of Socrates, this is established on the first page of narrative through notation. Socrates: I went down to the Piraeus (327a) the book reads. Although short, this is important regarding the fact that this notation changes the novel into a dialogue, it implies that Socrates is the one narrating. Plato is in effect imitating Socrates. This becomes increasingly interesting as the discourse about the just city and justiceitself progresses. Socrates and friends agree that poets won t he use a narration like the one we described a little while ago concerning Homer s verses, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study on California s Smoking Ban California s Smoking Ban (APA Citation) It was in 1964 that the Surgeon General of the United States first published a report on the ill effects of smoking cigarettes, and within a year the first law requiring health warnings on cigarette packages was in effect. From that point, the government has slowly, but continually, imposed more and more restrictions on the use of tobacco products. Throughout the 1960s, 70 s, 80 s, and 90 s, the both individual jurisdictions within the State of California, as well as the entire state, continued to impose tougher and tougher restrictions on smoking cigarettes until 1994, when California became the first state in the union to pass a law which completely prohibited smoking in most enclosed workplaces. • 33. Different Abilities That Set Humans Apart From Other Lives... One of the unique abilities that set humans apart from other life forms is the ability of speech production. Although it occurs involuntarily the act of speaking can be traced back to neural level even before the muscles are directed to move or before the first breathe is taken to supply the energy source for speech. Most people may not realize it but the fact is saying a word or even a sound is quite laboring on the body, especially when it must occur rapidly to even create a single sentence. Before a word or even a sound is produced the respiratory and phonatory systems must be activated and set into motion. Respiration which fuels the body is defined as the exchange of gas between an organism and its environment (Seikel, page 35), while Phonation is defined to be the product of vocal fold vibration which occurs within the larynx (Sekiel, page 165). In preparation to breathe, the diaphragm must move inferiorly giving the lungs room to expand. Real GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year; Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The change of these components will eventually affect real GPD. The expenditure approach is important because it can tell the government of consumers demand so that the government can better allocate resources. • 44. Decision For Setting Non Financial Targets Essay Introduction In the rapidly changing business environment, there is enormous pressure to conduct activities in a better, controlled and efficient manner. The accelerating change creates uncertainties and complexities thus creating challenges for management in their strategic plans. Management cannot continue to rely on Management Accounting Control Systems whose primary emphasis is on financial targets since such traditional analytical approaches can fail to adapt to the quick and unexpected economic landscape. This paper provides that managers must not rely on quantitative performance targets hence supports the argument for setting non financial targets in organizational objectives Discussion The measurement of performance is a great challenge in the contemporary business world since the non financial targets are hard to ascertain. It implies that an organization could end up with inefficient and ineffective MACS that lead to poor utilization of resources and ultimately increase the probability of organizational failure. The increasing strategic uncertainty creates a problem to quantify the non financial factors that could be incorporated in internal controls (Hirst, 1983). Unavailability of qualitative targets also creates cases of dysfunctional behaviors by subordinates in achieving organizational objectives. For a holistic perspective on performance, control strategies must incorporate non financial indicators since the gains are more than the associated costs (Otley, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of Christ began with the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three resurrection stories that highlight the resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels appear to the women telling the good news of a living Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the second is Jesushimself who delivers the message of the resurrection to the two disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope, Jesus appears to the eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends with the story of the ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and connection to the book of Acts of the apostles, which is also written by the same author. Luke s style suggests that he used various sources to write this pericope. The pericope occurs in all three gospels and even in John . It is situated after the passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison reveals the following common details which build the story: 1) the women go to the tomb to prepare Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the week early in the morning. 3) They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a report. 5) It is followed by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles and 7) the apostles responded to the women s report. Darrel Bock says that only 17 of Luke s 169 terms are in agreement with Mark. Luke s account complements the other Gospels giving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Coffee Commodity Chain And Its Effects On The Global South Through out this essay I will discuss the coffee commodity chain and its effects on the Global South. This essay will also, illustrate the impact coffee has on boosting developing countries economies while, looking into Fairtrade and its links to the commodity chain. The world in terms of development is divided in two, which is known as the North South divide this shows a separation between developed and developing countries. This separation is caused by economic, social and environmental factors, economy being the clearest and most prominent influence. For many countries in the Global South coffee is their main income, and as a result is highly important to their economy. For instance if coffee decreases in price then farmers will not earn enough surplus to keep their farms and what follows is a life of poverty. The following are the world s top exporters in coffee (as of July 2016, in thousands 60kg bags): 1. Brazil with 1,926 2. Vietnam with 1,650 3. Columbia with 489 4. India with 412 5. Honduras with 403 This is a clear indication that even though these are developing countries they still remain the highest exporters, which signals they re not entirely benefiting from their produce or in fact receiving enough money for them. World exportation of coffee grew by 9.5% in August 2016, compared to August 2015 (ICO 2016). This displays an increase in demand for coffee therefore in retrospect farmers should be able to increase their prices to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Rising College Tuition in America Rising College Tuition in America College Prices Soar Again! Budget Cuts Cause Even Higher Tuition! Higher Education Now Even Less Affordable These are all statements that have been seen all over the media: newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. (3 SV: SV) Rising college tuition in America has been a problem for years. Many students drop out after a single year due to the pricey costs of tuition. The rapid rise can be attributed to many aspects of the economy, not just a single source. There have also been some propositions of how costs could be lowered, but these have yet to be seen. The United States has gone into a tuition crisis. Tuition rates have been on the rise since the start of colleges. In 1988, the average college tuitionwas about $2,800 for a year of schooling. In 2008, that number had risen 130% to nearly $6,800 for one year; according to Annalyn Censky of CNN Money, if the average income had raised the same amount, median family earning would be roughly $77,000 a year, instead of the current $33,000. Americans are making $400 less on average than they did in 1988 says Censky. Over the past twenty years, college has risen 5% of the median family income from 12% to 17%; private colleges went from 27% to 47% says Economist.com. (1 SV; SV.) Tuition isn t the only thing rising at colleges: room, meals, books, and other fees are rising as well. (4 SV: A,B,C,D.) This also takes its toll on families as well as the students themselves.
