Essay on Edwin Arlington Robinsons the Mill
Lucius Beebe critically analyzes Edwin Arlington Robinson s, The Mill best. Beebe s analysis is from
an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not be. She
notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of the modern
world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme. Lucius Beebe
expresses that a minor overflow of significant details has been exposed over Edwin Arlington
Robinson s The Mill, much of it concerned with whether the miller s wife did indeed drown herself
after the miller had hanged himself. Another, even more provocative question has never been asked:
did the Miller actually hang himself? Beebe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, Lucius Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier, with one
clause hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of past perfect
verbs giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect in the second
stanza, which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which implies that the
fear has a continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia militates against
supposing change, and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change than exists. This
hypothesis is reinforced by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a pair of past conditional
clauses. What he had meant, as direct object, parallels What else there was, as subject, forming a nice
balance of speculation within the triple layered clause. This is continued within the second clause by
what was hanging from a beam, forming a seesaw of supposition that is given another push by the
predicate Would not have heeded, another past conditional verb.
Beebe suggests that this back and forth structure intensifies the pervasive aura of speculation that
surrounds all we know of the miller s wife so far. This ongoing verbal balancing act also underscores
the connotative probability of

Monsanto Vs Bayer Merger
Introduction
For $66 billion Monsanto agreed to be acquisition by Bayer on September 14, 2016. Both companies
have a strong presence in the global biotechnology and chemical industry. Monsanto s expertise in the
seed industry and Bayer s success in the crop protection segment will come together to create an
agricultural input powerhouse. Together these two companies could become one of, it not the largest,
firm in the agricultural industry. With high priorities in research and development, sustainability, and
innovation Monsanto and Bayer complement each other well. This report will cover 5 topics; the
companies involved, their categories of markets, their financial status, a S.W.O.T. analysis, and their
platform for growth after they merge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monsanto specializes in their ever famous glyphosate based herbicides known as Round Up. Where as
Bayer produces herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and seed growth products which dwarfs Monsanto
s sales by 1.5 times. The difference in performance of these two industries shows why these
companies are compatible. They can combine their strengths in the two industries to become an
agricultural power house. Plus, their resources can be effectively used to enter new markets such as
digital agriculture. Monsanto recently acquired the Climate Corporation which is a leader in this field
consistently innovating and improving their technology. With Bayer s capital it is definite that they
will pursue this industry with full force along with dominating the seed and agricultural productivity

Effects Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a military and political confrontation between the United States and the
Soviet Union lasting thirteen days. It began on October 16 and ended on October 28, 1962.
Throughout the entirety of the Cold War, no event brought these two super powered nations closer to
nuclear war than the events that transpired during these thirteen days. During this time, William Roof
was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as a soldier in the United States Army. The constant
pressure by both nations on each other caused high tension for everyone involved, which affected even
the soldiers going about their everyday lives.
The first nation to make a move in this particular war was the United States. In order to place pressure

The high tension, life threatening, and nearly war starting negotiations between the two leaders
showed the clear flaws between the two nation s communications with each other. This was shortly
amended by the creation of the Moscow Washington hotline, allowing for quick and frequent
communication between the two nations. This hotline allowed the relations between the two
superpowers to vastly improve over the course of the rest of the Cold War and prevented such an event
as the Cuban Missile Crisis from ever occurring again. Bill summed up the Cuban Missile Crisis in an
excellent way by stating, It was almost the dumbest way to blow up all of humanity. The Soviets and
us just pointed big guns at each other till everyone got scared, and if either country would have shot
those big guns the world wouldn t have ever been the same again. You can t get two super powered
countries firing nukes at each other and expect the world not to change, and I think both Khrushchev
and Kennedy realized that and did everything they could to stop it, and thank God they

The previous organizational structure for payment of services rendered did not allow officials enough
time to investigate claims to ensure the claims were legitimate. Perpetrators study the law and use the
knowledge to fraud insurance and government agencies. The governance of rules, regulations and
laws was not stringent enough to stop perpetrators from frauding the system. New guidelines allow
agencies more time to detect suspicious claims, investigate and save the insurance companies millions
of dollars. Society does not concentrate on proactive actions to prevent fraud, instead society deals
with the problem after the fact. Consumer watch groups do not have tools in place to prevent fraud.
Perpetrators rely on the oversites of insurance companies in order to target and fraud insurance
companies. Insurance companies and the federal government should pool resources using a percentage
of profits to finance a task force to arrestively fight fraud. The penalty for fraud should be more
stringent which will cause perpetrators to think twice before formulating a plan to commit fraud. The
Affordable Health Care Act is the beginning of many programs established to fight against fraud.
Health care fraud is a growing problem and should be taken more seriously by citizens of the United
States. Physicians, health care workers, and patients are responsible for

The Controversy Between Science And Pseudoscience
Climate deniers are accused of practicing pseudoscience, as are intelligent design creationists,
astrologers, UFOlogists, parapsychologists, practitioners of alternative medicine, and often anyone
who strays far from the scientific mainstream. The boundary problem between science and
pseudoscience, in fact, is notoriously fraught with definitional disagreements because the categories
are too broad and fuzzy on the edges, and the term pseudoscience is subject to adjectival abuse against
any claim one happens to dislike for any reason. In his 2010 book Nonsense on Stilts (University of
Chicago Press), philosopher of science Massimo Pigliucci concedes that there is no litmus test,
because the boundaries separating science, nonscience, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

That is, does the revolutionary new idea generate any interest on the part of working scientists for
adoption in their research programs, produce any new lines of research, lead to any new discoveries,
or influence any existing hypotheses, models, paradigms or world
views? If not, chances are it is
pseudoscience.
We can demarcate science from pseudoscience less by what science is and more by what scientists do.
Science is a set of methods aimed at testing hypotheses and building theories. If a community of
scientists actively adopts a new idea and if that idea then spreads through the field and is incorporated
into research that produces useful knowledge reflected in presentations, publications, and especially
new lines of inquiry and research, chances are it is science.
This demarcation criterion of usefulness has the advantage of being bottom up instead of top down,
egalitarian instead of elitist, nondiscriminatory instead of prejudicial. Let science consumers in the
marketplace of ideas determine what constitutes good science, starting with the scientists themselves
and filtering through the editors, educators and readers. As for potential consumers of pseudo
science,
that s what skeptics are for, but as always, caveat

Cultural Pluralism Course At The Harvard Implicit...
The first assignment in our Cultural Pluralism course was to take part in several individual studies as
part of the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT). Each of the studies measures a person s attitudes
and beliefs that they may not be willing or unable to express and to write about our experience. For
some individuals, taking these types of tests would be possibly a little unsettling. As for myself, I was
very sure that I had a strong understanding of who I am and what I believe, so I thought the results
would not be very surprising. Since bias can occur at any phase of research, including data collection I
allowed the program to randomly choose three individual studies so I could avoid the issue of
potential bias by selecting only the ones that I had a personal interest in. Allowing the program to
choose would also ensure that I would get my true results regarding how I really looked at issues
because I wouldn t have any way of knowing how I would answer the questions prior to the study. The
first study measured my automatic association of the concepts female and males with the concepts of
lead and support. The data suggested that I had a strong automatic association of Male with lead and
female with support. No surprise there since I have always association lead or leadership with the
males in my life such as my father and husband. They were the strong ones, who directed the family in
all matters of importance. My father was the head of the household and

1. Define and explain the significance of jure imperii and jure gestionis (reference the theory of
sovereign immunity to which they are relevant).
Principally, the theory of restrictive sovereign immunity is basically when the Department of States
can elect to instill immunity, or otherwise not let immunity happen (Murphy, 305). There are
specifically two areas that either allows this unit to acclaim immunity and or reject immunity
(Murphy, 305). The first area is known as jure imperii. When governments of other nations have an
undertaking that is relevant to the community, then immunity is acclaimed (Murphy, 305). The second
area is known as jure gestionis. If a government of another nation has relayed information on
undertakings in being profit oriented, then rejecting immunity is the option (Murphy, 305).

Comparing Of Mice And Men
What if killing someone was good? What if the death of your child was the only to cure you? The
books Of Mice and Men and The Pearl are both thought provoking stories that were brilliantly
authored by Jordan Steinbeck, and both of stories address this topic. Of Mice and Men tells the story
of two workers in the Salinas Valley, while The Pearl tells a parabolic story, about a poor fisherman
working to save his child. Both stories tell touching, and quite frankly, heart breaking stories about
what types of sacrifices must be made for the greater good. While both of these books are extremely
similar in resolution, both of them share a multitude of systematic differences, especially when it
comes to central women characters.. The Pearl is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a girl s hair, he pulls it by accident and to keep her from screaming he bounced her up and down, and

George realizes that Lennie will be chased and locked up, he realizes that in order to help his friend,
he must kill him. When George finally saves his friend, his friend realizes he did the right thing and
says, You hadda, George. I swear you hadda. Equivalently to The Pearl, in order to save someone, the
ultimate sacrifice had to be made. Divergently The Pearl, women play a very different role in Of Mice

to the fact that she relies on Curley, and that she is confined to her house. Curley s Wife talks about

The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit
The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self
has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very
existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of
self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was
skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this
paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his
claims on continuity. Descartes non reductionist arguments, though not incorrect, lack the soundness
that Parfit poses with his reductionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that
nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself,
whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the
truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to
fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the
moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses,
which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its
distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax
that remains which has undergone some alterations from what is was before. He concludes that the
nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the
perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer.
Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is
fundamentally the derivative of perception. His rational thinking provides the proof of his existence
that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of
consciousness, experience and emotions.

A personal trend that has become popular in the last ten years is the use of designer drugs among

The Idle No More Movement
Friedrich Nietzsche is a German philosopher that has a great influence on Western philosophy. One of
his works called On the Genealogy of Morals discusses an overlying theme of superiority and power
as well as good and bad . This book discusses the difference that the power that superior people have
compared the the weak and poor. Nietzsche exemplifies how the powerful seem to forget about issues
that do not pertain to themselves where as the weak fight for the issues (Nietzsche, 2007, pp 14). This
idea of the powerful overlooking the weak in On the Genealogy of Morals, directly relates to the Idle
No More movement. The Idle No More movement is a social and political protest consisting of

The Canadian government has continually entered indigenous protected land to have diamond, gold,
and oil mines, as well as run oil pipelines. These operations have given the Canadian government
billions of profits. Unfortunately, only little of that profit gained by the Canadian government is given
to the aboriginal peoples. I believe that that the fact that the Canadian government is profiting off of
illegal activity and not sharing a large portion of the profits with the rightful owners of the resources is
wrong. This action and lack of respect for the law goes directly against Nietzsche s idea of
utilitarianism. Nietzsche describes the idea of utilitarianism as involving how we ought to be made of
finer stuff than Utilitarianism (Lecture, 2016). He describes it as a pursuit of pleasure and good that
has a positive and maximized effect for the majority of people (Lecture, 2016). This idea is how
indigenous people live their life. They live their life so that the future generations can use the same
land as they used it. If one person were to destroy the land for the pursuit of profit, then it should
create wealth for the greater number of people. Christoff s article on Idle No More exemplifies this
when Chief Spence says great riches are being taken from our land for the benefit of a few, including
the government of Canada and Ontario, who receive large royalty payments, while we receive so little,

The Robertson Family Analysis
The arrival of a new baby brings excitement, joy, and anticipation. The Robertson family was certainly
no exception to these feelings when their son Steven was born. Ida and John Robertson were like most
new parents when it came to expectations and interactions with their son on a daily basis. This nuclear
family of three soon realized their way of life would be altered as they struggled to adapt to Steven s
condition. As their little boy continued to grow, the parents would enquire about genetic testing,
search for a school conducive to Steven s needs, and learn to embrace a lifestyle in which Steven
would thrive.
Ida and John observed their son s delayed reactions and lack of interest in engaging activities while
interacting with him. However, Ida explained that she was a new mother and did not understand fully
why Steven would not respond to her facial gestures. Ida began to question if Steven s condition was
related to her older sister s intellectual disability. Therefore, the couple sought genetic testing and

The Clash of Faith and Evidence
The Clash of Faith and Evidence History has shown that in the past, religion dominated as an
explanation of knowledge and was used to explain many of the world s mysteries such as why the sun
rises and sets and how the world came to be. Science, using concrete and tested evidence, gave light to
many of these mysteries and debunked the myths created from religion. In today s modern society,
science has advanced in a remarkable fashion. Science has broken down objects into structured
molecules, found the genetic code that makes up an individual s DNA, and it even found a way to
clone a sheep. Scientists of today are beginning to tread into territories that, some would argue, border
along the lines of God s work. With science progressing the way it is, many believe that science and
religion will forever be locked in conflict. However, neither side of the argument have truly been able
to prove the existence of God. It is in this view that both, science and religion, should cooperate with
each other to find the answer instead of senselessly bickering about which side is right. The most
popular view between the conflict of science and religion is incompatibility, that is the view that
science and religion cannot exist together in harmony. In this view, the two are significantly different
approaches to knowledge. Science depends solely on experimental verification, while religion depends
strongly on faith. Advocates of this perspective say that history proves true of the

High School, Collegiate, And Professional Activities
In my first essay, I took a deeply cynic position against competition. But, as discussed by Shields,
maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in high school, collegiate, and
professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.). Decompetition is like competition, but it
primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.).
Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a
neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is
inherently good either. The game of jacks played today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of my
opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one of us
could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time
someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the
jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered when someone did
the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new; we used each other s perspectives
to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten.
But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened
our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success,

Magnet Schools Research Paper
What is a Magnet School?
In contrast with charter and private schools, a magnet school is an exclusive part of the local public
school system. Normal public schools use geographic zones to determine where students will attend
school. This means that students attend the school that is closest to where they live. Magnet schools
operate outside of zoned school boundaries, but remain under the same administration and part of the
local public school system. The U.S. Department of Education provides financial assistance for these
schools through their Magnet Schools Assistance program.
http://www2.ed.gov/programs/magnet/index.html
What is the Purpose of Magnet Schools?
Magnet schools originally began as part of a mass effort to desegregate public schools. Today, they
serve the same mission by giving students opportunities to select schools that best fit their needs.
Ideally, these same students will enrich the school s demographic makeup by representing different
social and ethnic backgrounds. When it comes to the curriculum, almost all magnet schools use
special course loads to incentivize students from various neighborhoods to attend. The goal ... Show

To illustrate, both charter and magnet schools are technically public schools, but charter schools are
not required to follow the same state rules and regulations that public and magnet schools must follow.
Instead, charter schools are free to select which textbooks to use, which courses to teach and which
teachers to hire. That is, they are allowed to hire teachers who do not meet the state s minimum
licensing qualifications. Magnet and public schools are managed by the school district, but charter
schools are controlled by an internal board of directors. The admissions processes in magnet schools is
often quite rigorous and competitive, but charter schools use open enrollment admission and maintain

Themes Of Xenophobia In District 9
Thirty years ago, aliens arrive on Earth, not to conquer or give aid, but to find refuge from their dying
planet. Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are managed by
Multi National United, which is not concerned with the aliens welfare but will do anything to master
their advanced technology. When a company field agent Wikus contracts a mysterious virus that
begins to alter his DNA, there is only one place he can hide: District 9. The film was directed by Neill
Blomkamp and starred Sharlto Copley (Wikus). It begins as a documentary style investigation and
then as the film continues it becomes more conventional and character driven following Wikus and his
transformation into a Prawn. The film focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, there are signs saying either no prawns or no humans and the humans show a major sign
of xenophobia towards the prawns. In this day in age we see a lot of hatred towards foreigners, in
particular, terrorists. In the beginning of the movie you see Blomkamp interviewing the humans about
the prawns. They show a great level of hatred and disgust for the prawns intruding on their town. In
the real world, we see this same form of hatred or disgust from certain people about the immigrants
and refugees intruding on and taking over many American s jobs. Blomkamp wants to push the issue
that there is great hatred throughout the world today. The main reason he produced the film in
Johannesburg was because there were high tensions between native south Africans and Zimbabwean
refugees. He wanted to try to make the town he grew up in great again. Blomkamp wanted to open
people s eyes with the use of science fiction to show that in some ways we treat other humans like the
humans treated the prawns. Differential Criticism studies works by and about oppressed groups,

Birth Control Should Be Available To Teenage Girls
According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), teen pregnancy rates have decreased by 11 percent
to those aged 15 19 years in the years 2013 to 2014. If a continuum of these rates is to be achieved,
birth control should be available to teen girls without a prescription because they can prevent
unintended pregnancies. Also, the staggering abortion rates could be lowered due to the use of oral
contraceptives being available at any time. If condoms can be bought in stores to help guys protect
themselves, birth control should be over the counter. Birth control pills should be available to teenage
girls because teenage boys have availability to condoms, it would lower teen pregnancy rates, and
lastly it gives young girls control over their own body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

any place you go, condoms are being handed out left and right to young men to protect them from

much sooner. Yes, the use of condoms during any sexual activity could prevent an unintended
pregnancy, but it should be ok for a young girl to take the extra mile to protect her body. Yet girls in
this day in age are struggling to receive protection from pregnancy due to the extreme prices of birth
control and having to have a prescription. While guys can walk into any store and get a pack of

Biometric access control systems are so far the best type of access control we have today. The
reasoning for this is because it relies on identifying unique human characteristics such as fingerprints,
retinas, hands, etc. Since these characteristics are unique to each person like DNA, biometric access
control systems are considered far better than the other systems I have listed.
When it comes to access control of computer systems, many of the same types of control systems
mentioned above are also used along with passwords and encryption.
Uses of different systems
There are many ways to use the systems I have already mentioned. Almost all buildings use keys to
lock doors, but depending on the facility, they might also use smart card or proximity cards to control
access into different parts of the building. By doing this they can enhance security and effectively
control the access to different areas all through a computerized system. This allows them to easily
grant or deny access in a very short period of time or only allow access during certain times of the day.
Biometric access control systems can also be used in the same manner. Being able to control access in
this manner also allows for good tracking and logging of who comes and goes.
Components of an access control system
Components of an access control system can be a door, turnstile, gate, elevator, or any other physical
barrier where granting access

Honor In Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
In Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing, the theme of honor is what ultimately directs this play.
The main plot deals with suspected infidelity between Claudio and his soon to be bride, Hero. In the
time that this play is set, a woman s virginity defined her worth and sustained a man s honor. Claudio s
supposed honor and social status would be ruined if he were to marry a woman who was impure. The
honor of a woman is appears to be almost solely based on their purity and loyalty to their husbands,
while a man s honor seems to be not based on their behavior, but rather the behavior of those around
them. A man s honor rarely depends on his physical actions, but more so his military or occupational
standing and friendships. Because Claudio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This principle is seen predominantly when Hero s worth is completely diminished when her fiance is
tricked into thinking she is cheating on him. At the wedding, Claudio humiliates Hero by accusing her
of infidelity. Claudio says, Give not this rotten orange to your friend; / She s but the sign and
semblance of her honour. / Behold how like a maid she blushes here! (IV.I. 31 33). In this quote,
Claudio is explaining to Leonato that he is giving away his impure daughter to him, and that he is
almost offended that he would be offered such a terrible gift. Claudio even goes so far to declare that
he would never marry her by saying, Not to knit my soul to an approved wanton meaning that there is
no way he would even been seen with Hero because of her infidelities. Unfortunately, Hero is actually
a virgin throughout the whole play, but because she is thought to have had relations with another man,
her fiance denounces her, and she is publically shamed for all of her actions, ultimately leading to her
to have to fake her own death just in order to prove she is actually a virgin. All of this unnecessary
heartache that Hero went through was because of how high society held, and to an extent, still holds a
woman s innocence and sexual purity. While this high standard is set for women to be their purist self

Examples Of The Seven Stages Of Grief
When someone looses a loved one, they will go through the seven stages of grief. In Extremely Loud
and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, Oskar goes through the seven stages of grief after his
dad dies on September 11th, 2001. Throughout the novel, Oskar goes through all of the seven stages.
In stage one, Shock and Denial people will react to the loss with disbelief. They will deny the reality
of the loss in order to avoid the pain. People will use this as a shield to block out the fact of their loss
and not want to talk about the situation and/or person because it will make them miss or feel sad about
it. Oskar can be shown to be in this stage when he hides the voicemails from when his dad on the
worst day, For example, I opened the apartment door, put down my bag, took my shoes off, like
everything was wonderful, because I didn t know that in reality everything was horrible, I went to the
phone to check the messages and listened to one after another paragraph 2, page 68. . He doesn t want
anyone else to hear them so he goes to the store to buy a new phone then recorded a greeting from the
first phone onto it. Oskar wrapped up the old phone in a scarf and put in a grocery bag and put it in his
closet so no one could find it.
Another example of Oskar showing Shock and Denial is when he s in the store and he looks at a piece
of paper where they write their names to see what the color of the ink looks like. While Oskar is
looking at it , he see s his dad s name on it, written in red ink. Oskar is shocked that it s on there and
denies and feels sad about it. When he looks at it, without hesitation, Oskar asked the manager when
did his dad write that and other questions like, why and how could he go to that store just to write his
name on everything. Oskar tried to make him believe that his dad went to the store.
In stage two, Pain and Guilt, as the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable
pain. People tend to hide it, avoid it or escape from it, they tend to replace it with alcohol and drugs.
Life feels chaotic and scary during this phase. Oskar can be shown in this stage by when he gives
himself bruises. For example, when Oskar was listening to the last voicemail

Examples Of Modernism In Lolita
Modernism is a literary movement that was born in the 20th century in order to find new forms of
writing and create something entirely different that the world has seen before.
Modernists proclaimed about a complete separation from realistic traditions that took place in the 19th
century and decided to put an emphasis on Impressionism, Perspectivism and Subjectivity in their
literary works. The main idea of Modernism is that emphasis was put on how we see rather what we
perceive. Our own understanding and perception of event is even more important than an event of
itself. The Modernists present the inner world of hero in the first place. How the consciousness and the
subconsciousness are interacting, and how our actions and decisions are made ... Show more content

The Documentary Child Of Rage
The documentary, Child of Rage (HBO Monet, 1990), is sad and disturbing. According to the
American Psychiatric Association (APA, 2013), the child meets much of the criteria for conduct
disorder. The child was shown to frequently bully, threaten, intimidate, use pins on people and animals
with the intention to harm, was physically cruel to people and animals, stole and hid knives, sexually
molested her little brother and stated she wanted to kill her parents and brother which are many of
criterion A set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5 (APA, 2013). She did not seem to be
remorseful or feel guilty at the beginning of the HBO Monet (1990) documentary but did express
remorse as evidenced crying at the end. While she was talking with the interviewer she seemed to
exhibit a lack of empathy and did not show emotion and would most likely have a specifier of
childhood onset with limited prosocial emotions and is severe (APA, 2013). I felt it was remarkable
the therapy she received did so much for her and literally saved her life.
Reactive attachment disorder is described (Kress Paylo, 2014) as a disorder in which the child
received extreme neglect by the primary caregiver and as a result does not form emotional bonds with
others. Recent studies, state Kress Paylo (2014), show that all children in order to develop emotional
bonding with others need their basic physical and emotional requirements met. This was also the case
with the little girl in the HBO

During the Tokugawa period, Japan was mainly a closed off country as it wanted little to do with
being influenced by the outside world, and particularly, by the West. Japan was willing to dabble with
outside influences on what was becoming a national cuisine, but refused to give up it s national
identity. Introducing foreign aspects to Japanese cuisine was acceptable as long as Japan maintained
power and control over how these aspects would manifest. In Tokugawa period Nagasaki was a
regional site that attracted many Chinese settlers. Influenced by these Chinese settlers, an eating trend

Shippoku dining included not only imitation of Chinese style dishes, but also the imitation of Chinese
dining culture. Dishes were communal, which was not common for Japanese cuisine of the time, and
forced shippoku dining to be quite a social experience. Dishes and utensils used for shippoku were
supposed to look Chinese and have Chinese decorations, but the main distinction between the dishes
and utensils used for shippoku from everyday dishes and utensils were what shippoku diners called
them, which shows just how hard they were trying to imitate Chinese dining culture an ordinary bowl
could turn into a shippoku bowl if you called it the right thing; everything about shippoku dining was
supposed to sound Chinese in both names and pronunciation. This imitation, however, was explicitly
an imitation, which is evident from how hard they tried to look Chinese. There was less emphasis on
authenticity and modestly taking inspiration from Chinese culture, rather they were blatantly imitating
the culture as something that was other. This attitude shows that

Salmonella Of Salmonella And Enteritidis
Salmonella is a communicable disease that is caused by the salmonella enterica bacterium. There are
many types of this bacteria including salmonella Typhimurium and Enteritidis. Salmonella is most
common in young children and elderly who have impaired immune systems meaning they are more
likely to contract infections. Salmonella is one of the most reported causes of food poisoning in the
UK.
Types:
All types of salmonella come from the genus Salmonella, the bacteria then gets divided up into
categories. The majority of the components in each bacteria are about 95% identical for example E.
coli and Salmonella are around 60% identical at the DNA level.
There are 3 main serovars of salmonella; Typhimurium, Typhi and Enteritidis. A serovar is a distinct
variation of a bacteria and are classed together based upon their similarities. The distinct types help
the scientists create effective treatment to target the certain type of salmonella, which makes the
treatment more effective because it distinguishes the exact strain of salmonella to cure it.
Biological structure:
This biological structure of a salmonella bacteria contains; ribosomes, cytoplasm, bacterial flagellum,
mesosome, cell wall, and a plasma membrane.
Ribosomes This is a tiny particle made up from RNA and a large number of proteins found in the

Toyota was the only brand in the market at that time that had not produced a concept car. Therefore,
Toyota awarded Calty Design Research the contract to help them design and develop the concept car.
The estimated cost of developing is concept car is $1 million. Currently, Toyota FT 1 is still at the
concept stage. In August 2014, its gray replica was displayed at the Monterey Jet Center, Monterey,
California.
Concept Car Photography
Concept cars not only contribute to the development of new models of cars, they have also created a
number of new jobs and industries, such as the concept car photography. Today, there are a number of
concept car photographers, such as the renowned Tim Wallace who has worked with a number of car
manufacturers and brands such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Dodge, Chevrolet, and
Peugeot.
The need to reach many customers as possible motivated the development of concept car photography.
This is because many customers across the globe are unable to attend the motor shows where concept
cars are normally displayed. Therefore, good, quality pictures of concept cars need to be taken for
publishing in newspapers, magazines, and websites where customers can easily access them. The more
customers a car manufacturer is able to reach, the better idea it is able to get about customers
perception of the concept car. Most photographs of concepts cars are normally displayed on their

Project Requirements Of AAir Quality
3 Feasibility Study
3.1 Project requirements
The main requirements of this project is to create a solution that is capable of detecting a change of air
quality in a room(s) without a physical connection to the sensor and the web page host.
The sensor must be able to detect a change in air quality such as temperature and humidity. A wireless
network connection will be required so that data can be submitted to a webpage which will be
constantly updated via a live stream.
There must be some form of interaction with the end user, being able to send an alarm warning the
user about the room condition or a warning system on the sensor webpage with an alert on the page.
Also the webpage must be able to display multiple results in the event additional sensors are added.
3.2 Potential solutions and technical feasibility
I have three potential solutions, however there is only a slight variation between them, as a result, I
will make statements on the changes in the following solutions, and note in the title will cover what
area the solution covers to prevent repetition.
3.2.1 Solution 1 Temperature humidity sensor with XML data format
The first stage would be to build or obtain(both have advantages, building a sensor is more flexible
plus be more accessible but would be time consuming whereas obtaining one would be more
restrictive but it would save time for more important tasks) a sensor that can detect fluctuations in
temperature and humidity.
The next step would be to

Income Inequality In The Workplace
Throughout the history of the world, women have been discriminated against in all forms, especially
in the workplace; this includes unequal pay and much more. Even though America is advancing and
changing to provide equality to every individual, there are still many countries in which women are
still looked down upon simply because of their gender. Discrimination against women in the
workplace is not only taking place in America but also many parts of the world. Women who are well
educated and equally trained in their field are paid less than men who are sometimes not even
educated enough or well trained for the same job. There are many studies which show the difference
between the pay gap between men and women; these studies are sometimes done to show the systemic
discrimination that women face in the workforce. One of the main issue with income inequality
between men and women are simply because women are seen as the weaker sex when it comes to
working; because of this, woman earns less money at their jobs than men. The purpose of this research
is to provide insight into the income inequality between women and men. This research will use many
scholarly works to prove my hypothesis on the matter. In a way women being paid less than men
depend on their gender and any change in gender directly affect the way they are being paid or their
income.
In Miller article, she explains the most important reason why there is such a big income gap between
working women and men. One of

Challenges And Advantages And Disadvantages Of Matrix...
There are many types of structures that an organization might have, each of them comes with its own
set of advantages and disadvantages. Let us look at the benefits and drawbacks of three (or rather,
five) of the more modern structures. Matrix organizations One of the biggest challenges for employees
in a matrix organization is the fact that they have to report to multiple managers. With employees
directly reporting to two or more supervisors, these supervisors need to be highly coordinated with
one another to make sure that they re giving consistent orders. Otherwise, employees may be given
orders from different managers that are very difficult to follow in unison. Even worse, orders from
different managers can outright conflict. Employees can t follow these orders because they re mutually
exclusive. This causes ambiguity and confusion as to what the employee should do. This problem can
be avoided with high levels of communication and coordination between department managers and
project managers though. If these managers can stay on the same page, they can have a much clearer
picture of where to lead employees and they can put up a unified front. In that way, instructions from
either manager that a given employee reports to can give orders consistent with the orders given by the
other manager, and the employee will be able to follow the lead of both managers simultaneously.
There are clearly challenges in leading a matrix organization, as well as challenges in working

Cocaine Intoxication Essay
Cocaine Intoxication Cocaine intoxication occurs when you snort, smoke or inject too much cocaine.
One becomes restless and overactive shortly after using cocaine, but with excessive use, cocaine
intoxication can lead to death (Adult Health Advisor, 2005). The four stages of cocaine intoxication
are cocaine euphoria, cocaine disphoria, cocaine hallucinosis and cocaine psychosis. It has been noted
that cocaine intoxication closely resembles a psychiatric disorder. In the movie, The Boost , the main
character Lenny Brown goes through each stage of cocaine psychosis and examples of his progression
can be seen in the movie. The first stage of cocaine intoxication is cocaine euphoria which is described
as being similar to a manic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is sometimes referred to as a crash . Other symptoms include anxiety, sadness, apathy,
irritability and sexual indifference. Contrast to cocaine euphoria, individuals feel tired and want sleep,
but cannot fall asleep. Users in this stage also have strong cravings for more cocaine to return to the
increased pleasure and energy in stage one. As the movie moves forward, so does Lenny s experience
with cocaine intoxication. In the bar scene when he is waiting for the dealer with his wife, he is
irritated with the dealer for being late, even though his wife is relatively unaffected by having to wait.
Also, one can see how Lenny craves more cocaine once he is out of the hospital. He was just released
for overdosing on cocaine, but as soon as he gets in the car with his wife, he asks her if she has any.
Another example to show how desperate Lenny is to obtain more cocaine and try to impress people is
by stealing $20,000 from his boss. As one moves into stage three, the symptoms and affects start to
become more severe and dangerous. This third stage is referred to as cocaine hallucinosis. In this
stage, individuals experience hallucinations and delusions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that
occur in the absence of actual stimulation (Kassin, 2004, 654.) In cocaine hallucinosis, users see, hear,
feel, taste and smell things that are not there. Delusions, in contrast to hallucinations, are

Modified Adeli Suit Therapy Case Study
This source discussed, in more detail, the specific effects suit therapy in children that were diagnosed
with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. The source is written by, credible authors, Alegesan and Shetty
who are both practicing physiotherapists. The article carries authority because it was published in a
peer reviewed journal, the Online Journal of Health and Allied Sciences. In this study, conducted by
Alegesan and Shetty, the method was randomly selecting thirty children between the ages of four and
twelve to participate (Alegesan Shetty, 2011). The thirty children selected fulfilled certain criteria such
as being diagnosed with cerebral palsy; specifically, spastic diplegia (Alegesan Shetty, 2011). The

A study conducted by Mahani, Karmiloo, and Amirsalari (2011) compared the effectiveness of the
Modified Adeli Suit therapy (MSAT), Adeli Suit therapy (AST), and Neurodevelopmental therapy
(NDT) for children with cerebral palsy. All of the main contributors to this article have received higher
level degrees, and the article was published in a reputable occupational therapy journal. This clinical
randomized trial studied a total of thirty six children that have cerebral palsy and who met the
inclusion criteria. The thirty six children were randomly placed into one of three groups: Modified
Adeli Suit therapy, Adeli Suit therapy, and Neurodevelopmental therapy, and each child received their
assigned therapy for two hours a day, five days a week for four weeks (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari,
2011). The AST group received one hour of prep work, and the second hour was spent wearing the
suit where they completed vigorous exercises. In the NDT group, the children spent the entire two
hours performing passive and active movements. Lastly, the MSAT group conducted movements
similar to the NDT group, during the first hour, and spent the second hour in the suit, where they
performed fun and meaningful goal based activities. The Gross Motor Function Measure was used at
zero, four, and sixteen weeks to compare the effectiveness of each treatment. The results show that the
MSAT was the most effective treatment, and there was no significant difference in outcomes between
the AST and NDT groups (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). However, any of the three intense
therapies produced positive improvements. The experimenters believe that the shortened amount of
time spent on each movement and the goal based activities correlated with the positive outcomes in
the MSAT group (Mahani, Karmiloo,

Somalia Cultural Identity
No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark this quote by Warsan Shire comes to mind
Every time Cultural identity and immigration is discussed. I am a Somalia Muslim woman and Just
like many immigrants in the united states, I also identify as an American. My parents migrated from
their home in the horn of Africa when the civil war broke out. This seems simple, Somalis left their
beloved home due to civil war, but no its way more complex than that, and in order to understand who
I am, I will give few facts and background history. Somalia is a long, narrow country that wraps
around the Horn of Africa. It has the longest coast of any African nation, bordering on both the Red
Sea and the Indian Ocean. The inland areas are predominantly plateaus, with the exception of some
rugged mountains in the far north. The northern region is more arid, whereas the southern portion of
the country receives more rainfall. Many Somalis are nomadic or semi nomadic herders, some are
fishermen, and some farmers. Mogadishu is the capital and largest city. Somalia is composed of a
single, homogeneous ethnic group. Although Somalis may differ in nuances of local lifestyle, they
share one language, religion, and culture, and trace their heritage to a common ancestor. Colonial rule
began in the mid 1800s and divided the land inhabited by ethnic Somalis into several territories. The
French controlled the northernmost region (the area that is now Djibouti), the British colonized

A Brief Look at Green Buildings
According to Bauer, Peter, Schwarz (2010), green buildings represent a revolution in environmental
sustainability and are gaining increasing acceptance in many organizations. Green buildings
significantly reduce the incidence of workplace hazards and illnesses, which might increase the
productivity and personal mood of employees. (Leaman, Bordass, 2007) assert that the natural world
is a source of guidance and a mirror that often reflects back to the soul . The relationship between
individuals and nature has various facets that include beauty, commodity, language, discipline, spirits,
prospects and idealism. All of these facets support the inspiration and intuition of individuals.
Therefore, a natural environment in the workplace can aid to lift the spirits of employees and this can
have a positive impact on the personal mood of the employees (Smith Pitt, 2012). The concepts
employed in the design of many green buildings can help employees to explore and gain intimacy to
the immediate natural environment, which can improve their personal moods.
Green buildings and a natural environment in the workplace also increases the personal mood of
employees because they are able to enjoy fresh and improved quality of air (Leaman Bordass, 2007).
Unsustainable building practices can contribute to an increase in pollutants that might have a negative
effect on the health of the employees. With their health at risk, employees cannot perform optimally.
The work environment

Essay on A Society of Oppression in A Handmaid s Tale
A Society of Oppression in A Handmaid s Tale
As the saying goes, history repeats itself. If one of the goals of Margaret Atwood was to prove this
particular point, she certainly succeeded in her novel A Handmaid s Tale. In her Note to the Reader,
she writes, The thing to remember is that there is nothing new about the society depicted in The
Handmaiden s Tale except the time and place. All of the things I have written about ...have been done
before, more than once... (316). Atwood seems to choose only the most threatening, frightening, and
atrocious events in history to parallel her book by specifically the enslavement of African Americans
in the United States. She traces the development of this institution, but from the ... Show more content

Once the oppressed group is demoted to it, or property, freedoms can be taken away. Property cannot
read or write for example, or leave their respective grounds a plantation in the case of slaves, or the
Center in the case of the Handmaids without an escort or master. Segregation is also an issue, as
blacks could not sit with the whites at church or eat at the same dinner table, the Handmaids were not
permitted to sit with the Wives at assemblies or eat at their banquet tables. In addition, a Handmaid
does not have any claim on her own child, who belongs to her masters, the Commander, and his wife,
just as a slave mother would have no right to keep her child from her master if he wished to sell it.
Finally, there is the renting of women to men, not unlike the renting of slaves to farmers, as property
of the owner (of course the rent money does not go to the worker; what could an it need with such a
human invention?). As the Commander demonstrates to Offred when she enters the bordello, He slips
around my wrist a tag...like tags for airport luggage. If anyone asks you, say your an evening rental, he
says... (233). An earlier Commander set this trend by announcing, Let women learn silence, with all
subjection, (221). After all, property cannot be capable of rebellion, it is merely

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Film Blackfish
In the documentary film Blackfish, directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, the director debates the rights
for sea animals. Cowperthwaite makes the claim that sea animals should be freed from their
enclosures in entertainment because they re harming themselves and the humans that are training
them. She uses all rhetorical analysis of pathos, ethos and logos, but pathos trumpets over all. Pathos
is such a strong appeal in this documentary because of the animals lives and the peoples emotion
towards the subject of the matter. Cowperthwaite is able to engage the audience with pathos because
of the appreciation of the arguments significance. The documentary film, Blackfish, targets an
audience of the general public who feel for the customers of SeaWorld. ... Show more content on

SeaWorld logically claims that about 25% of whales have the folded fin and a former trainer says only
about 1% have this problem and they believe that, that is why the whale in SeaWorld had a folded fin
(Blackfish). They also claim that when orcas are separated from their families and taken away from
their natural habitat; they become stressed and angry. They also say that s why the whales are so
violent towards themselves and the trainers. Orcas are like humans because they have human like
brain function and emotion (Blackfish). The film supports this because they observed the orcas and
notice how sad they get because they re not with anyone they know. They can also develop
relationships and bonds that humans can develop as well. Blackfish can support these claims of this
argument because they quote SeaWorld directly that says, orcas live in cohesive long term social units
called pods, and the strongest association bonds in a pod are the mother/calf bonds (SeaWorld). That
being said, this also relates back to pathos because of the bonds. They re literally ripped from their
parents to come perform for humans, when they can be in their natural environment, exploring the
seas. Its so emotional knowing what happens and how they re being treated, but SeaWorld is still open

  • 2. Essay on Edwin Arlington Robinsons the Mill Lucius Beebe critically analyzes Edwin Arlington Robinson s, The Mill best. Beebe s analysis is from an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not be. She notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of the modern world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme. Lucius Beebe expresses that a minor overflow of significant details has been exposed over Edwin Arlington Robinson s The Mill, much of it concerned with whether the miller s wife did indeed drown herself after the miller had hanged himself. Another, even more provocative question has never been asked: did the Miller actually hang himself? Beebe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, Lucius Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier, with one clause hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of past perfect verbs giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect in the second stanza, which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which implies that the fear has a continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia militates against supposing change, and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change than exists. This hypothesis is reinforced by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a pair of past conditional clauses. What he had meant, as direct object, parallels What else there was, as subject, forming a nice balance of speculation within the triple layered clause. This is continued within the second clause by what was hanging from a beam, forming a seesaw of supposition that is given another push by the predicate Would not have heeded, another past conditional verb. Beebe suggests that this back and forth structure intensifies the pervasive aura of speculation that surrounds all we know of the miller s wife so far. This ongoing verbal balancing act also underscores the connotative probability of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Effects Of The Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban Missile Crisis was a military and political confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union lasting thirteen days. It began on October 16 and ended on October 28, 1962. Throughout the entirety of the Cold War, no event brought these two super powered nations closer to nuclear war than the events that transpired during these thirteen days. During this time, William Roof was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as a soldier in the United States Army. The constant pressure by both nations on each other caused high tension for everyone involved, which affected even the soldiers going about their everyday lives. The first nation to make a move in this particular war was the United States. In order to place pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high tension, life threatening, and nearly war starting negotiations between the two leaders showed the clear flaws between the two nation s communications with each other. This was shortly amended by the creation of the Moscow Washington hotline, allowing for quick and frequent communication between the two nations. This hotline allowed the relations between the two superpowers to vastly improve over the course of the rest of the Cold War and prevented such an event as the Cuban Missile Crisis from ever occurring again. Bill summed up the Cuban Missile Crisis in an excellent way by stating, It was almost the dumbest way to blow up all of humanity. The Soviets and us just pointed big guns at each other till everyone got scared, and if either country would have shot those big guns the world wouldn t have ever been the same again. You can t get two super powered countries firing nukes at each other and expect the world not to change, and I think both Khrushchev and Kennedy realized that and did everything they could to stop it, and thank God they ... The previous organizational structure for payment of services rendered did not allow officials enough time to investigate claims to ensure the claims were legitimate. Perpetrators study the law and use the knowledge to fraud insurance and government agencies. The governance of rules, regulations and laws was not stringent enough to stop perpetrators from frauding the system. New guidelines allow agencies more time to detect suspicious claims, investigate and save the insurance companies millions of dollars. Society does not concentrate on proactive actions to prevent fraud, instead society deals with the problem after the fact. Consumer watch groups do not have tools in place to prevent fraud. Perpetrators rely on the oversites of insurance companies in order to target and fraud insurance companies. Insurance companies and the federal government should pool resources using a percentage of profits to finance a task force to arrestively fight fraud. The penalty for fraud should be more stringent which will cause perpetrators to think twice before formulating a plan to commit fraud. • 6. The Controversy Between Science And Pseudoscience Climate deniers are accused of practicing pseudoscience, as are intelligent design creationists, astrologers, UFOlogists, parapsychologists, practitioners of alternative medicine, and often anyone who strays far from the scientific mainstream. The boundary problem between science and pseudoscience, in fact, is notoriously fraught with definitional disagreements because the categories are too broad and fuzzy on the edges, and the term pseudoscience is subject to adjectival abuse against any claim one happens to dislike for any reason. In his 2010 book Nonsense on Stilts (University of Chicago Press), philosopher of science Massimo Pigliucci concedes that there is no litmus test, because the boundaries separating science, nonscience, and ... That is, does the revolutionary new idea generate any interest on the part of working scientists for adoption in their research programs, produce any new lines of research, lead to any new discoveries, or influence any existing hypotheses, models, paradigms or world views? If not, chances are it is pseudoscience. We can demarcate science from pseudoscience less by what science is and more by what scientists do. Science is a set of methods aimed at testing hypotheses and building theories. If a community of scientists actively adopts a new idea and if that idea then spreads through the field and is incorporated into research that produces useful knowledge reflected in presentations, publications, and especially new lines of inquiry and research, chances are it is science. This demarcation criterion of usefulness has the advantage of being bottom up instead of top down, egalitarian instead of elitist, nondiscriminatory instead of prejudicial. Let science consumers in the marketplace of ideas determine what constitutes good science, starting with the scientists themselves and filtering through the editors, educators and readers. As for potential consumers of pseudo science, that s what skeptics are for, but as always, caveat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cultural Pluralism Course At The Harvard Implicit... The first assignment in our Cultural Pluralism course was to take part in several individual studies as part of the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT). Each of the studies measures a person s attitudes and beliefs that they may not be willing or unable to express and to write about our experience. For some individuals, taking these types of tests would be possibly a little unsettling. As for myself, I was very sure that I had a strong understanding of who I am and what I believe, so I thought the results would not be very surprising. Since bias can occur at any phase of research, including data collection I allowed the program to randomly choose three individual studies so I could avoid the issue of potential bias by selecting only the ones that I had a personal interest in. Allowing the program to choose would also ensure that I would get my true results regarding how I really looked at issues because I wouldn t have any way of knowing how I would answer the questions prior to the study. The first study measured my automatic association of the concepts female and males with the concepts of lead and support. The data suggested that I had a strong automatic association of Male with lead and female with support. No surprise there since I have always association lead or leadership with the males in my life such as my father and husband. They were the strong ones, who directed the family in all matters of importance. My father was the head of the household and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The books Of Mice and Men and The Pearl are both thought provoking stories that were brilliantly authored by Jordan Steinbeck, and both of stories address this topic. Of Mice and Men tells the story of two workers in the Salinas Valley, while The Pearl tells a parabolic story, about a poor fisherman working to save his child. George realizes that Lennie will be chased and locked up, he realizes that in order to help his friend, he must kill him. • 11. The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his claims on continuity. Descartes non reductionist arguments, though not incorrect, lack the soundness that Parfit poses with his reductionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself, whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses, which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax that remains which has undergone some alterations from what is was before. He concludes that the nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer. Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is fundamentally the derivative of perception. His rational thinking provides the proof of his existence that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of consciousness, experience and emotions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nietzsche exemplifies how the powerful seem to forget about issues that do not pertain to themselves where as the weak fight for the issues (Nietzsche, 2007, pp 14). I believe that that the fact that the Canadian government is profiting off of illegal activity and not sharing a large portion of the profits with the rightful owners of the resources is wrong. This action and lack of respect for the law goes directly against Nietzsche s idea of utilitarianism. Nietzsche describes the idea of utilitarianism as involving how we ought to be made of finer stuff than Utilitarianism (Lecture, 2016). He describes it as a pursuit of pleasure and good that has a positive and maximized effect for the majority of people (Lecture, 2016). This idea is how indigenous people live their life. They live their life so that the future generations can use the same land as they used it. If one person were to destroy the land for the pursuit of profit, then it should create wealth for the greater number of people. Christoff s article on Idle No More exemplifies this when Chief Spence says great riches are being taken from our land for the benefit of a few, including the government of Canada and Ontario, who receive large royalty payments, while we receive so little, outlines Chief ... • 15. The Robertson Family Analysis The arrival of a new baby brings excitement, joy, and anticipation. The Robertson family was certainly no exception to these feelings when their son Steven was born. Ida and John Robertson were like most new parents when it came to expectations and interactions with their son on a daily basis. This nuclear family of three soon realized their way of life would be altered as they struggled to adapt to Steven s condition. As their little boy continued to grow, the parents would enquire about genetic testing, search for a school conducive to Steven s needs, and learn to embrace a lifestyle in which Steven would thrive. Ida and John observed their son s delayed reactions and lack of interest in engaging activities while interacting with him. However, Ida explained that she was a new mother and did not understand fully why Steven would not respond to her facial gestures. Ida began to question if Steven s condition was related to her older sister s intellectual disability. • 16. The Clash of Faith and Evidence The Clash of Faith and Evidence History has shown that in the past, religion dominated as an explanation of knowledge and was used to explain many of the world s mysteries such as why the sun rises and sets and how the world came to be. Science, using concrete and tested evidence, gave light to many of these mysteries and debunked the myths created from religion. In today s modern society, science has advanced in a remarkable fashion. Science has broken down objects into structured molecules, found the genetic code that makes up an individual s DNA, and it even found a way to clone a sheep. Scientists of today are beginning to tread into territories that, some would argue, border along the lines of God s work. With science progressing the way it is, many believe that science and religion will forever be locked in conflict. However, neither side of the argument have truly been able to prove the existence of God. It is in this view that both, science and religion, should cooperate with each other to find the answer instead of senselessly bickering about which side is right. The most popular view between the conflict of science and religion is incompatibility, that is the view that science and religion cannot exist together in harmony. In this view, the two are significantly different approaches to knowledge. Science depends solely on experimental verification, while religion depends strongly on faith. Advocates of this perspective say that history proves true of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. High School, Collegiate, And Professional Activities In my first essay, I took a deeply cynic position against competition. But, as discussed by Shields, maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in high school, collegiate, and professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.). Decompetition is like competition, but it primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.). Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is inherently good either. The game of jacks played today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of my opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one of us could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered when someone did the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new; we used each other s perspectives to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten. But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success, ... When it comes to access control of computer systems, many of the same types of control systems mentioned above are also used along with passwords and encryption. Uses of different systems There are many ways to use the systems I have already mentioned. Almost all buildings use keys to lock doors, but depending on the facility, they might also use smart card or proximity cards to control access into different parts of the building. By doing this they can enhance security and effectively control the access to different areas all through a computerized system. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, Oskar goes through the seven stages of grief after his dad dies on September 11th, 2001. Throughout the novel, Oskar goes through all of the seven stages. In stage one, Shock and Denial people will react to the loss with disbelief. They will deny the reality of the loss in order to avoid the pain. People will use this as a shield to block out the fact of their loss and not want to talk about the situation and/or person because it will make them miss or feel sad about it. Oskar can be shown to be in this stage when he hides the voicemails from when his dad on the worst day, For example, I opened the apartment door, put down my bag, took my shoes off, like everything was wonderful, because I didn t know that in reality everything was horrible, I went to the phone to check the messages and listened to one after another paragraph 2, page 68. . He doesn t want anyone else to hear them so he goes to the store to buy a new phone then recorded a greeting from the first phone onto it. Oskar wrapped up the old phone in a scarf and put in a grocery bag and put it in his closet so no one could find it. Another example of Oskar showing Shock and Denial is when he s in the store and he looks at a piece of paper where they write their names to see what the color of the ink looks like. While Oskar is looking at it , he see s his dad s name on it, written in red ink. Oskar is shocked that it s on there and denies and feels sad about it. When he looks at it, without hesitation, Oskar asked the manager when did his dad write that and other questions like, why and how could he go to that store just to write his name on everything. Oskar tried to make him believe that his dad went to the store. In stage two, Pain and Guilt, as the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain. Nurses are the support system for the patients and their families, they watch patients suffer, and sometimes they even care for patients who are terminally ill and dying. The modern world of health care and tightening budgets are resulting in additional work related stressors such as barriers to providing optimal care, increasingly complex needs of patients, short acute care lengths of stays, the need for increased knowledge of ever changing technology, nursing shortages, poor staffing, long work hours, limited resources, and feelings of lack of control (Smith, 2014, p. 119). • 36. Salmonella Of Salmonella And Enteritidis Salmonella is a communicable disease that is caused by the salmonella enterica bacterium. There are many types of this bacteria including salmonella Typhimurium and Enteritidis. Salmonella is most common in young children and elderly who have impaired immune systems meaning they are more likely to contract infections. Salmonella is one of the most reported causes of food poisoning in the UK. Types: All types of salmonella come from the genus Salmonella, the bacteria then gets divided up into categories. The majority of the components in each bacteria are about 95% identical for example E. coli and Salmonella are around 60% identical at the DNA level. There are 3 main serovars of salmonella; Typhimurium, Typhi and Enteritidis. A serovar is a distinct variation of a bacteria and are classed together based upon their similarities. The distinct types help the scientists create effective treatment to target the certain type of salmonella, which makes the treatment more effective because it distinguishes the exact strain of salmonella to cure it. Biological structure: This biological structure of a salmonella bacteria contains; ribosomes, cytoplasm, bacterial flagellum, mesosome, cell wall, and a plasma membrane. Ribosomes This is a tiny particle made up from RNA and a large number of proteins found in the cytoplasm. Ribosomes bind to messenger RNA and then synthesises proteins. As sea ice melts natural resources, sea life, and trade routes will become more accessible to humans. Project Requirements Of AAir Quality 3 Feasibility Study 3.1 Project requirements The main requirements of this project is to create a solution that is capable of detecting a change of air quality in a room(s) without a physical connection to the sensor and the web page host. The sensor must be able to detect a change in air quality such as temperature and humidity. A wireless network connection will be required so that data can be submitted to a webpage which will be constantly updated via a live stream. There must be some form of interaction with the end user, being able to send an alarm warning the user about the room condition or a warning system on the sensor webpage with an alert on the page. Also the webpage must be able to display multiple results in the event additional sensors are added. 3.2 Potential solutions and technical feasibility I have three potential solutions, however there is only a slight variation between them, as a result, I will make statements on the changes in the following solutions, and note in the title will cover what area the solution covers to prevent repetition. 3.2.1 Solution 1 Temperature humidity sensor with XML data format The first stage would be to build or obtain(both have advantages, building a sensor is more flexible plus be more accessible but would be time consuming whereas obtaining one would be more restrictive but it would save time for more important tasks) a sensor that can detect fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Discrimination against women in the workplace is not only taking place in America but also many parts of the world. Women who are well educated and equally trained in their field are paid less than men who are sometimes not even educated enough or well trained for the same job. There are many studies which show the difference between the pay gap between men and women; these studies are sometimes done to show the systemic discrimination that women face in the workforce. One of the main issue with income inequality between men and women are simply because women are seen as the weaker sex when it comes to working; because of this, woman earns less money at their jobs than men. • 43. Challenges And Advantages And Disadvantages Of Matrix... There are many types of structures that an organization might have, each of them comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Let us look at the benefits and drawbacks of three (or rather, five) of the more modern structures. Matrix organizations One of the biggest challenges for employees in a matrix organization is the fact that they have to report to multiple managers. With employees directly reporting to two or more supervisors, these supervisors need to be highly coordinated with one another to make sure that they re giving consistent orders. Otherwise, employees may be given orders from different managers that are very difficult to follow in unison. Even worse, orders from different managers can outright conflict. Employees can t follow these orders because they re mutually exclusive. This causes ambiguity and confusion as to what the employee should do. This problem can be avoided with high levels of communication and coordination between department managers and project managers though. If these managers can stay on the same page, they can have a much clearer picture of where to lead employees and they can put up a unified front. In that way, instructions from either manager that a given employee reports to can give orders consistent with the orders given by the other manager, and the employee will be able to follow the lead of both managers simultaneously. There are clearly challenges in leading a matrix organization, as well as challenges in working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been noted that cocaine intoxication closely resembles a psychiatric disorder. Contrast to cocaine euphoria, individuals feel tired and want sleep, but cannot fall asleep. As the movie moves forward, so does Lenny s experience with cocaine intoxication. In the bar scene when he is waiting for the dealer with his wife, he is irritated with the dealer for being late, even though his wife is relatively unaffected by having to wait. Also, one can see how Lenny craves more cocaine once he is out of the hospital. He was just released for overdosing on cocaine, but as soon as he gets in the car with his wife, he asks her if she has any. Another example to show how desperate Lenny is to obtain more cocaine and try to impress people is by stealing $20,000 from his boss. As one moves into stage three, the symptoms and affects start to become more severe and dangerous. This third stage is referred to as cocaine hallucinosis. In this stage, individuals experience hallucinations and delusions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that occur in the absence of actual stimulation (Kassin, 2004, 654.) All of the main contributors to this article have received higher level degrees, and the article was published in a reputable occupational therapy journal. This clinical randomized trial studied a total of thirty six children that have cerebral palsy and who met the inclusion criteria. The thirty six children were randomly placed into one of three groups: Modified Adeli Suit therapy, Adeli Suit therapy, and Neurodevelopmental therapy, and each child received their assigned therapy for two hours a day, five days a week for four weeks (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). The AST group received one hour of prep work, and the second hour was spent wearing the suit where they completed vigorous exercises. In the NDT group, the children spent the entire two hours performing passive and active movements. Lastly, the MSAT group conducted movements similar to the NDT group, during the first hour, and spent the second hour in the suit, where they performed fun and meaningful goal based activities. The Gross Motor Function Measure was used at zero, four, and sixteen weeks to compare the effectiveness of each treatment. The results show that the MSAT was the most effective treatment, and there was no significant difference in outcomes between the AST and NDT groups (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). This seems simple, Somalis left their beloved home due to civil war, but no its way more complex than that, and in order to understand who I am, I will give few facts and background history. Somalia is a long, narrow country that wraps around the Horn of Africa. It has the longest coast of any African nation, bordering on both the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. The inland areas are predominantly plateaus, with the exception of some rugged mountains in the far north. The northern region is more arid, whereas the southern portion of the country receives more rainfall. Many Somalis are nomadic or semi nomadic herders, some are fishermen, and some farmers. A Brief Look at Green Buildings According to Bauer, Peter, Schwarz (2010), green buildings represent a revolution in environmental sustainability and are gaining increasing acceptance in many organizations. They also say that s why the whales are so violent towards themselves and the trainers. Orcas are like humans because they have human like brain function and emotion (Blackfish). The film supports this because they observed the orcas and notice how sad they get because they re not with anyone they know. They can also develop relationships and bonds that humans can develop as well. Blackfish can support these claims of this argument because they quote SeaWorld directly that says, orcas live in cohesive long term social units called pods, and the strongest association bonds in a pod are the mother/calf bonds (SeaWorld). That being said, this also relates back to pathos because of the bonds.
