Killer Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor Essay
1 Introduction The target of this research is to look at the frequency of a receptor a killer
immunoglobulin like receptor (KIR) present on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells a key
component of the innate immune system. This will begin by briefly discussing the innate
immunity, NK cells, KIRs and their implications.
1.1 Innate Immunity The human immune system can be divided into two categories the adaptive
immune system and innate immune system, however these two systems work in conjunction to
form the immune response. The innate immune system also can be referred to as the non specific
immune system and the first line of defence. As the name suggests the innate immune system is
non specific and recognition and response to pathogens are generic. This system does not confer
memory or long lasting protection from pathogens. The task of this system is to provide instant
defence against pathogens which are present throughout individual s life s and can be found across
other animals and plants. The defence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
while the second line of defences or secondary defences as they are known, consists of cellular
and soluble factors to stop pathogens causing infections. The secondary defences can be divided
up further into cellular factors consisting of macrophages and neutrophils which are phagocytic
by nature (Galli, Borregaard, Wynn, 2011). The final cellular component are cytotoxic cells, NK
cells and will be the focus of this research and discussed in greater detail in section 1.2.0. NK cells
are a class of cytotoxic lymphocyte which protects the body from virally infected and cancerous
cells. These cells can induce cell death by delivering cytotoxic granules and receptor mediated
mechanisms, while also producing cytokines that aid in stimulating the immune cell functions seen
in the soluble factors of the secondary defences (Caligiuri,

Human Beings Have a Right to Die Essay
Do people have the right to die? Is there, in fact, a right to die? Assisted suicide is a controversial
topic in the public eye today. Individuals choose their side of the controversy based on a number
of variables ranging from their religious views and moral standings to political factors. Several
aspects of this issue have been examined in books, TV shows, movies, magazine articles, and other
means of bringing the subject to the attention of the public. However, perhaps the best way to look
at this issue in the hopes of understanding the motives behind those involved is from the perspective
of those concerned: the terminally ill and the disabled.
Imagine, if you can, having altzheimers disease. Sometimes you are completely ... Show more

In the nursing home, they are understaffed, and do not have the proper understanding of your
condition to care for you as you need to be. Instead, you are left to lie in bed day after day, unable
to use anything but your mind.
Once having a mere glimpse into the lives of the terminally ill or disabled, some are able to
understand their plight; but usually most are not. In most cases, these people are able to take
what they ve been given and deal with it. However, in some cases, some simply can not tolerate
their lives as they are. They feel that the only solution to their problem is to end their lives.
Unfortunately, in some cases, the terminally ill or disabled are not capable of accomplishing this
task by themselves, and are left trapped in a life that they do not want. In these cases, when one
wishes to end his life and is terminally ill, disabled, or otherwise unable to do so independently, he
should have the right to die by assisted suicide. Although most people that are terminally ill or
disabled do not wish to end their lives, there are still those few who do. While examining the issue
of assisted suicide, three facets of the controversy must be considered: the political, the moral, and
the human or compassionate views. By supporting their decision, we support their right to choose
and decide what they want to do with their bodies and their lives, we do not

Amazing Grace Walberforce Leadership Qualities
The movie Amazing Grace follows the life of William Wilberforce, a young merchant s son who
took up a career in the House of Commons in Parliament. After converting to Christianity,
Wilberforce realized his calling was to end the horrific and dehumanizing reality of the slave trade.
During the course of his fight to end the slave trade in Great Britain, he exemplified many
leadershiptraits. These leadership characteristics stemmed from his vivid vision, were fueled by
his passionate values, and through relentless persistence, allowed him to change the most
powerful and influential nation in the world. One characteristic displayed by William
Wilberforce that is inherent to every leader is vision. The mission of a leader is to guide a group of

Perseverance is the leadership trait that often goes unnoticed in the life of a leader. Many people
see leaders following their success and never think about the years of hard work and failure that
occurred prior. In the case of Wilberforce, his persistence was staggering especially in light of all
the adversity he faced. During his decade long quest, he proposed multiple bills, all of which
failed. While proposing those bills, he was constantly jeered and mocked. His image and
reputation suffered, rumors were spread about him, yet he persevered. His health deteriorated to
the point of extreme suffering, yet he persevered. The final scene of the movie shows the respect
that Wilberforce received due to his perseverance as both his friends and political enemies gave
him a standing ovation following the passing of the bill that abolished slavery. Perseverance is the
trait that makes a leader stand out from the crowd. It shows that the leader is fully committed to
their cause, and no matter the hardships, they willing to see their vision established into

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence The Art World
For my essay I have chosen to write about the great Leonardo da Vinci or his less known full
name Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, I chose him because of his iconic influence on the art world
and for how fascinating his mind was, being so ahead of his time. He was the Father of the High
Renaissance style and of the most important painters of The Renaissance. With works from Virgin

many generations with his technique and ability to bring out atmospheric prospective. Born On
April 15, 1452 Leonardo was raised in Vinci Italya small town in the lower valley of the Arno
River in the territory of Florence. Growing up in a time of great change, Humanism started to
become a thing of study as compared to focusing solely on god and religion. As a bastard child
of a farmer s daughter Leonardo lived with his father and is guessed to have been prevented
from seeing his her due to her lower social class. Due to his status Leonardo was in a way thrown

Allusions In Dracula
Hidden in Bram Stoker s Dracula contains abundant amounts of allusions and social commentaries.
These rhetorical devices help connect the reader to the experience of the novel and allow them to
have a more in depth understanding of the characters, and usage of religious allusions abets the
reader in achieving that goal. In the worldwide masterpiece Dracula, Stoker uses religious,
mythical, and archetypical allusions to depict Dracula as a peculiar and distinct creature as well as
providing social commentary for current problems during the late Victorian era.
Dracula is seen as the evil mastermind and the villain in archetypal terms. He also has copious
amounts of vampire characteristics; Dracula is described as brute, and more than brute: ... Show

Many of the symbols in the novel are actually important social commentary during the late
Victorian period. For example, many religious objects Dracula shows weakness to shows the
chasm between the religions of Anglican and Catholic Church, as Crucifixes, communion wafers,
and convents are not, despite the bulk of critical attention reading them thusly, exclusively
Catholic (Bowles 2). Stoker is insinuating a possible mending of relations between the two
religions. Also, the usage of religions items shows that science that the West uses cannot usurp
Dracula; instead, the hero has to look into superstition for the cure. In this sense, science is
portrayed as a dangerous entity and many old, superstitious beliefs are reconsidered.
Simultaneously, Harker is seen as having a sense of condescending and untrustworthy attitude
towards the east and their superstition, as shown a crucifix he has been taught to regard such
things as in some measure idolatrous (Stoker 9). Stoker also seems ignorant of Eastern culture,
as he does not know the meaning of eve of St. George s Day (Stoker 9). Also, from the fact that
Roman Catholic populations within Ireland simply do not function in London , it is
understandable why Harker sees another religion in a negative light. (Bowles 1) In the real world,
Stoker is calling for reconciliation of religion, while in the novel, Stoker shows the reason Dracula
cannot die easily. By forcing to use other cultures and their teachings, Stoker shows how others
could have the answers and depict Dracula as an interesting

Puritans And The Pilgrims Research Paper

The Puritans and the Pilgrims: What made the Puritans different?
Many Americans are familiar with the two groups, Puritans and Pilgrims, but most don t know the
differences between them. The Puritans began a group of people that were members of the
Anglican Church. Their goals were to rid the church of any remaining influences from Catholicism.
They were mainly English Protestants of the 16th century who wanted to follow the Calvinist
model of religion rather than the ever present Catholicism. Several Puritans lost faith in the
Anglican Church and felt it could never be completely purified from all Catholic influence; as a
result they abandoned the Church and completely separated themselves from the Anglican religion.
These Puritans where referred to as Separatists. The remaining majority of Puritans inherited the
title of non separating Puritans, over time these two groups would become increasingly hostile
toward each other.
The Puritans wanted to remain a part of the English establishment, and work toward reforming the
church from within. All the while they immigrating to New England, they still held onto their
English heritage, and their main emphasis in forming a new colony was to be a biblical witness
so to say, the city on a hill . Their objective was to set a shining example... Show more content on

Although they still considered themselves English as well, they were determined to form their own
spiritual and political identities. Their faith put more of an emphasis on individual righteousness
before God, instead of the Puritan form, that put more of an emphasis on corporate and community
righteousness. The Puritans were energized as a group by the constant persecution of their faith. As
a result they developed an entire system for defining and explaining their doctrine concerning

little knowledge about the Black Loyalists of Nova Scotia and knew nothing about their exodus to

issues arose because I was using Powerpoint Online which did not have many of the features of
the full version. While creating this powerpoint, I had access to my mother s computer which
had the full version of Microsoft Powerpoint on it. Therefore, I did not experience any of the
previous issues, such as font size, spacing and crashing. However, I did not have enough time to

Declining Birth Rates
Before, characterizing the family was straightforward. Couples had a tendency to live together after
marriage, with kids following not long after. Presently, be that as it may, things have changed.
Characterizing the average structure of an advanced family is significantly more confounded, with
less relational unions, rising separation rates and expanding quantities of common associations
testing the present. Throughout the year s American thought of a familyhas changed in Declining
birth rates, moves in marriageand separation levels, and single parentfamilies.
Throughout the years, the declining birth rates have changed. In 1971, the normal family measure
was 2.9 individuals however, in 2006, this figure had fallen by 17% to 2.4 individuals. Amid a
similar period, the youngsters per family fell by 10% from 2.0 to 1.8, however, this figure

particularly since the broadened post World War II time of increased birth rates accomplices have

Endosulfan Literature Review
Impact of Endosulfan on Male Reproductive functions a review
ABSTRACT
Endosulfan is an organochlorine insecticide and acaracide used to control a broad range of insect
and arthropod pests on a wide variety of crops in many agrosystems. It can cause acute and chronic
toxicity. Endosulfan is a neurotoxin, haematoxin, genotoxin and nephrotoxin. Toxicity of this
insecticide on reproductive organs is confirmed. So this article reviews experimental and
epidemiological studies of reproductive toxicity of endosulfan in males. The Literature search was
carried on PubMed for the years 1994 2014. Twelve experimental studies and two humanstudies on
Male Reproductive Toxicity induced by endosulfan were identified. Based on the findings, it
suggest that endosulfan can affect the male reproductive system and also that these effects are
likely to be larger if exposure occurs during the developmental phase. Further investigation of
endosulfan as reproductive toxicant is warranted.

PlatoВґs The Symposium and it theme Compared to the French...
Life is pink, or so says Louis Armstrong s version of Edith Piaf s beautiful French song, La Vie
En Rose. Plato is arguably the most famous philosopher from Ancient Greece. The Symposium,
one of Plato s most famous works, is a brilliant piece of literature centered on a group of men
telling their own versions of what they believe to be Love. The Goddess of Love however, is the
main focus of Platos work more so than the act of actually being in love. This becomes the men s
main focal point for the duration of their speeches. Both the story and the song, depict versions of
love of Love that are relatively common. In the soft tones of La Vie En Rose, the perfection of what
being in love can become is heard clearly. Believing that everything is wonderful and it could
never change is a symptom of the rose coloured glasses Armstrong is singing about. Socrates in
believes that Love can be both horrible and bad. There are people who believe that love is the
solution to all of their problems, and those who believe that there are bad aspects that come with
being in love. Hundreds of years apart, and these two men are trying to send different messages
about the same subject love. When you agree he is neither good nor beautiful, you need not think
he is ugly and bad; he could be something in between. (Plato, P. 23) Socrates is a character whom
is famous in his own right. Though it is often believed Plato is using him as a device to speak his
own thoughts. Through the rest of the

Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist And The Trial
Throughout life, events occur and mold us. Events that hold many achievements and hardships.
Events that causes us to adapt, hopefully, for the better. Events that becomes experiences, which
we learn from and evolve into a wiser self. However, these inspiring words and pithy phrases are
more suited for those who seek a generic answer. While we have these moments of triumph and
success, we also have terrors that reside on the opposite side of the spectrum. Moments of lasting
pain and trivial endeavors that leave an imprint on us unlike the moments of joy. It is through man
s isolation and pain that tell us not to talk to strangers or play with fire. Unfortunately, it is difficult
to explain the feelings of pain than it is of joy. Franz Kafkaexplores these feelings. Franz Kafka
journeys and displays the complicated genre of alienation and psychological tribulation of
mankind in his stories, The Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist, and The Trial. On July 3, 1883,
Franz Kafka was born to a mother who was oblivious to his ambitions and to a father who held
the family with vises. In the city of Prague, where he was born, he saw the true face of his father
within his household (Franz, par 1). A man who controlled everything and trivialized the aspect of
creativity and imagination. During school and work, he always aspired to become a writer.
However, he needed to have a stable job to continue his hobby of writing. Through his father s

Thucydides at His Best Essays
The true essence of human nature is seen during times of great hardships as can be seen comparing
Pericles Funeral Oration and the plague in Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War.
Thucydides accounts for many different aspects of justice, power, and human nature through his
text. The order, the style of his writing, choice of words, and relations of what he believes actually
happened, allows the reader to make different inferences about the message he s trying to convey.
The juxtaposition of the two stories portrays many different characteristics to investigate and
analyze.
The question can be raised, why compare the funeral oration and the plague with each other, the
answer simply lies in its order. Thucydides shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also shows that when powerful speakers used rhetoric, they would exaggerate. Pericles allowed
the people to feel their city wouldn t be able to be destroyed, but the conceit he had for the city
didn t turn out to be true.
In the funeral oration there is a visual of continuous strength, courage, unity, fighting, and power
that is building this great city called Athens, but then when looking at the plague, you see it
break apart. Thucydides mentions the steps and characteristics of the symptoms the plague had
on the human body. He describes it so that the reader sees how the plague affected the body,
breaking it down organ by organ. This can relate to the breakdown of Athens due to the plague.
It takes this one disease to take one human life as well as a strongly built city. He also shows the
breakdown of the city by describing the setting, instead of seeing an orderly city with its
beautifully established buildings, you d find dead people lying one on top of the other in the
streets, sick people at the fountains, mostly signs of death around every corner.
The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of
the body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. The same can be said
for the city. The plague hit the structure of the city, and destroyed it little by little, just as it
destroyed the different parts of the body, eventually causing a break down of the empire, the same
empire that

It would have been better for the entire family if Jacob would have never given the garment,
because everyone knew already that Joseph had the undivided attention from his father, and the

his sons towards Joseph. The problem was big enough and there was no need to make it bigger,
which eventually later in the story results in Joseph s exile into Egypt. Most importantly this is a
passage that interestingly shows many family problems that we are currently witnesses of, such
as parents marking their children lives through their decisions which further more have an

Analysis Of The Movie The Truman Show
The media has become so powerful in today s society that it has come to the point of controlling
our daily lives. We accept the reality of the world with which we re represented. It s as simple as
that . This was said by a character in the movie, The Truman Show that was released in 1998,
distributed by Paramount Pictures, directed by Peter Weir, and includes stars such as Jim Carrey,
Laura Linney, Natasha McElhone and many more. There is a crucial need to criticize the media
in order to explore the way something is presented and to be sure that we are thinking for ourselves
because the media is not always accurate in its portrayal of facts. The Truman Showis a non stop, 24
hour live broadcast of a man named Truman Burbank. Truman has no idea that his life is fake,
full of actors, and that there are over 5,000 hidden cameras that document his entire life,
although his life and emotions are still genuine. The show is watched by Truman fans all over
the world that are addicted and can t get enough of it. These fans want to know his every move.
The creator of the show was a man named Cristof who claims that he knows everything about
Truman because he has had him trapped in a fake city called Seahaven in a giant television studio
in a super dome his whole life and watches his every move. Everything seems to change when
Truman begins to notice strange things happening around him. For example, while on his daily
routines to work he sees a hobo who looks exactly like his

Investigation of Effect of Temperature on Amylase Activity
Investigate the effect of temperature on amylase activity
Introduction
Amylase is an enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of starch into sugars. Amylases are found in
almost all plants, animals and microorganisms. Large amounts of amylase occur in germinating
cereals, and in the pancreas and saliva of higher animals.
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to find out the rate of reaction between amylase and starch in a range
of different reaction temperatures.
Hypothesis
As the reaction temperature of amylase solution and starch solution increase, the reaction rate of
amylase and starch will increase. After reach the optimal temperature of amylase, the reaction rate
of amylase and starch will rapidly decrease.

Crossing Within Polylingual Families With Contested Structure
Introduction
This research seeks to examine crossing within polylingual families with contested structure. I
analyzed a scene from the television show Trailer Park Boys in which a three member family
interact using the concepts of crossing, facework, and footing, in order to answer my research
question. I found that the central character uses crossing as a method of performing facework. As a
result of this, he also indicates preference and dispreference to his family members.
Theoretical Framework
Crossing involves someone speaking in another language, dialect, or pattern which feels
distinctly other (Rampton, 2000, p. 54). This can occur in a wide variety of contexts such as
first generation Americans using English in a non English household in order to embrace one
cultural system over another. Or, using a different pattern of speech around a significant other s
parents in order to convey positive social values. In the case of the scene I analyzed, the central
character s language is already crossed as he is a white man speaking almost exclusively African
American Vernacular English (AAVE). He further uses crossing to interact with his Hispanic
girlfriend. As a character, his crossed language is one of his most defining qualities, making him
an interesting case study. Because of the character s use of AAVE as a white man, he can be
juxtaposed with Mike , the person of interest in a study of white teens and AAVE adoption (Cutler,
1999). Mike, like Jamie, the main

childhood onto her middle age years, her life as the very first, first lady, and how her life was
after her husband, John F. Kennedy had passed away. Before I begin I will give you a briefly
biography about her. Jacqueline Kennedy became the first lady in 1961. Her father was John
Vernou Bouvier III and her mother was Janet Norton Lee. She had a sister named Caroline Lee and
of course her husband President John F. Kennedy. She had four kids named, Arabella Kennedy,
Caroline Bouvier Kennedy, John Fitzgerald Kennedy Jr, and Patrick Bouvier Kennedy. Jacqueline

Jacqueline Kennedy additionally tried to utilize the White House to showcase human
expressions. She turned into the most noticeable defender for the foundation of the National
Cultural Center in the country s capital, in the long run to be named for her spouse. At the White
House she facilitated exhibitions of musical drama, graceful expression, Shakespeare and
present day jazz, all performed by American organizations. After her meeting with French
Minister of Culture Andre Malraux in May of 1961, he made a credit to the U.S. from France of
the Louver Museum s well known Mona Lisa painting, and Jacqueline Kennedy directed the
divulging. From Malraux, she created thoughts on the consequent making of a U.S. Bureau of
the Arts and Humanities, an endeavor she examined with Rhode Island Senator Claiborne Pell
and one that she expected would rise with the production of a presidential expressions guide and
consultative board in 1961. The possible formation of the National Endowment for the
Humanities and the Arts accomplished her objective, she later reflected. She also often

Training, Learning And Development
TRAINING, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT An Organization put efforts to help their

by interviewing with employees they determine what needs to be fixed. Sometimes, HR manager of
company take help from internal sources to find out required training to enhance organization need.
Further, willingness of employees for training is also important because without their involvement
results will not be satisfactory. This organization use different factors to influence their employees
for training like different pay scale, based on their qualification of employees. Succession planning
is another factor by which an employee cannot be considered eligible for a particular job until he

The highest number of cases occurred in 1953 with over 50,000 people infected with the virus.
When hygienic conditions were poor polio attacked infants. The disease was spread by
contaminated water and contact with fecal contamination. Many infants died when the conditions

built up antibodies to protect against the virus. The monkeys that survived were then given another

Essay about If I See A Ghost Are My Senses
IF I SEE A GHOST ARE MY SENSES TO BLAME?
To complement the full apprehension of the terms which will be used throughout this argument, a
number of meanings taken from The Lexicon Webster Dictionary is provided:
GHOST
The soul or spirit of a dead person. A disembodied spirit.
HALLUCINATION
(psy) an apparent perception, as by sight or hearing, for which there is no real external cause, as
distinguished from illusion
ILLUSION
A false impression or belief. False perception or conception of some object of sense. A perception of
a thing which misrepresents it, or gives it qualities not present in reality.

All these examples fall under error of perception but the following is an interesting experiment
carried out by the Toronto Society Of Psychical Research. They discovered that sГ©ance
phenomena might be attributed, at least in part, to the same psychokinetic force that is commonly
believed to be responsible for poltergeist (unquiet ghost) activity. They suggested that this force
could be produced by the minds of the sitters, fuelled perhaps by their unanimous belief that such
phenomena would occur during the sГ©ance. They theorized that the role of the medium was that
of a placebo, and that no particular psychic sensitivity was necessary for a successful sГ©ance.
Apart from considering all the forms of perceptional errors, we can explain the existence of such
spirits that are perceived (but not always believed!) If we want to stick to the Rationalist philosophy
and therefore state that such presences should be reasoned out, rather than just experienced, we can
say that this subject has brought together many professionals from around the globe, using their
knowledge and their equipment to get the truth out. This type of philosophical approach is what I
am trying to use to explain these so called ghosts.

King Henry V wanted to continue the negotiations with France and made some demands that the

but only if France paid 1.6 million crowns; part of the debt owed his ancestors for the capture of

France refused to negotiate; so King Henry asked the Parliament to tax France for the inheritance

Properties of Gases
Properties of Gases
General Chemistry 1
Lab 5
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment is to examine the properties of several gasses, which were the
products of a reaction, and examine the way the gasses react under certain conditions. These
conditions, such as introducing a flame to the gas as well as oxygen and CO2, caused other reactions
to occur.
Hypothesis:
If the gasses are correctly synthesized then there will be a clear reaction with the introduction of the
flame, O2, CO2, Air, limewater, and Bromthymol indicator.
Procedures:
Step 1. I placed a small amount of Mossy Zn in the test tube and then added HCL. I used the

CO2 through the tube of the gas assembly through the limewater, which caused it to turn a cloudy
color and possibly produce a precipitate. Using the same gas assembly technique, I ran the CO2
through a few ml bromothymol blue in the well plate as well. When the gas contacted the
bromothymol, it turned from blue to yellow then to a murky green.
Step 5. I added a few pieces of Alka Seltzer to the gas delivery tube and added water to create the
gas reaction. Using the gas assembly C amp;P tube, I ran this gas synthesis through the limewater in
the well plate, which turned the limewater from hazy to clear.
Step 6. I put some of the limewater in the test tube and with the straw, I breathed through the
limewater. This had the opposite effect of the Alka seltzer gas as the breath caused the limewater to
turn hazy.
Analysis:
(Results included in my procedures) The hydrogen was proven to be combustable. The oxygen was
proven to be flameable. No reaction with the hydrogen and oxygen mixture which may have been

Huei and Kun [2] proposed that the speed of moving objects in a single image can be estimated
using the blur parameters, the camera parameters and imaging geometry. To illustrate, the
displacement of a moving object (d) can be determined using similar triangles according to the
blur length (k) Figure2. And by knowing the shutter speed of the camera (T), the speed of the
object is v =d/T(1). Since this paper is concerned with Fourier Transform, the details of equation (1)
are omitted and calculating the blur parameter is detailed below.
The blur parameters, including the blurs direction and length, can be determined by examining their
impact on the Fourier spectrum. As shown in figure, the Fourier spectrum of the motion blur
contains strips of dark lines that are parallel and uniformly separated. Note that the Fourier spectrum
depends on the objects orientation; so the direction of the motion blur could be extracted from the
frequency spectrum. Also, as the blurs length increase, the edges get smoother, resulting in lower
frequency response. These observations suggest that the frequency spectrum has all the needed
information to determine the blurs parameters. In particular, the object shown in the figure is
moving along the horizontal axis, and this caused the vertical orientation of the dark lines in the
frequency spectrum. Furthermore, increasing the blurs length, which can be achieved by increasing
the object s speed, lessens the distance

Reflection About Depression
Only a handful of people know this about me, however one year ago I was diagnosed with
moderate suicidal depression. Depression is a mental illness that not only affects how you
mentally perceive reality, it affects how your brain processes and executes your actions as well.
Depression has not only changed my ways of contemplating my everyday complications , but it
has changed my belief about inner and self strength completely. Let me tell you, my depression
is the reason I am writing about my belief, in gaining strength from desperate times. Now, I m 14
years young, and have lived in two different countries, one province, and two states in a matter of
two and a half years. Which is part of the reason why I am a completely different person now.
Moving is aggravating and exasperating for really anyone who goes through it, but it has a whole
other perspective when you are a student in high school. Moving was upsetting and set my anxiety
and depression off like a firecracker, but at the same time it was an adventure that I was lucky to
have had. Why? Because it made me get out of the house and meet people. Sure, I could have
stayed inside and slept all summer, but then I might not have been here typing this as of right now.
Moving gave me strength by making me get out and find new things and new people. My
experience with depression turned my whole life around. I didn t want anything to do with school,
my family, or even myself. I didn t understand how I would try so hard

Civil Liberties And The Government Of The United States
Legal historian Geoffrey Stones claims that the government of the United States has in the past
overreacted in times of war and crisis, and has seriously violated many civil liberties. A
democracy requires high levels of civil rights, liberties, and political openness in order for its
citizens to fully participate in political election, and other governmental activities; however, the
demands of national security usually require much less openness, secrecy, and limitations on civil
rights and liberties. Throughout history there have been times were large numbers of individuals
have experienced political discrimination and have had great difficulty exercising their civil
liberties. Ethnic minority groups, and immigrants have been among the most targeted by the
government in times of crisis. Under conditions of war, American civil liberties and political
participation are usually curtailed and violated in many ways by the government, usually with the
active support of some groups and people in society. Times of national security threat are often
accompanied by what historian Richard Hofstadter calls the paranoid style in American politics. In
other words, war produces preoccupation with internal threats to national security, and some
groups with in society are targeted as security ricks because of their ethnic or political belief. This
paper will briefly explore different times and crisis were civil liberties have been obstructed by the
government for national security

The inner journey is a concept that has always been debated, and so has its meaning. The word
inner has the alternative meaning of personal. Moreover, the word journey has an alternative
meaning of movement. So, the concept of the inner journey, customarily, has the meaning of a
personal movement. Inner journeys have often been described as the metaphor behind a physical
journey. The statement Journey is the reward and the idea of a personal movement are depicted
in the texts, My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The Transall Saga

It must be noted that inner journeys are plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that
no one can escape. As Robert Frost says in The Road Not Taken , Two roads diverged in a yellow
wood.
In Sally s quest for information, she met a lady called Elsie who gave her a great depth and
insight into her Grandmother and the past. In Sally s mind, her journey was definitely rewarded
and this made her feel full inside . Sally s mother, Gladys, had also found an new sense of
fulfillment which completed her as a whole, because she was previously only half a person . For
Sally, it was her determination and stubborn nature which meant that she was rewarded, because
in her heart she realized that unless the family went on such an epic journey we never would
have known our place . Sally said What had begun as a tentative search for knowledge had grown
into a spiritual and emotional pilgrimage . This journey of self discovery, enlightenment and
acceptance, were all key discerning factors in how, for Sally, the journey was a rewarding

Budh Vader Research Paper
Darth Vader struggled for breath, drawing upon the Force to protect his lungs and his flesh from
the searing heat of the lava behind him. Born in the arid wastes of Tatooine, he d never believed
that anything could ever feel hot to him. When he finally left, he d believed the rest of the galaxy
to be like a glacier beautiful, but cold.
Mustafar, however, had taught him the real meaning of heat. And it was a brutal instructor.
So he breathed, chest laboring to fill his lungs with air as the Force kept the monstrous heat at bay
and filtered the poisonous fumes. And as he breathed, acutely aware of the glowing river of lava
behind him, he stared up at his one time Master. His one time mentor. And, it seemed, his one time
friend. Obi Wan Kenobi, the man he d loved like tje brother he d never had. The one man he d
thought would understand. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Instead, he used the Force to alter his path, landing in a crouch before Obi Wan as his one time
Master s blade slashed the air where he would have been. There was no joy in his heart as his
lightsaber tore through Obi Wan s abdomen. He loved his former Master, loved him as a friend and
a brother. But... there was no other

Sir Bedivere s Role In Arthurian Legends
Sir Bedivere, a knight with a courageous amount of love for his king, the great Arthur, is a
critical piece of the puzzle in understanding a knight s devotion to his master. His presence in
Morte Darthur by Sir Thomas Malory proves the love a man has for his lord. Bedivere is the last
man standing, aside from Arthur, after the battle with Sir Mordred and his company. Sir Bedivere
assists Arthur by completing his dying wish and comforting him prior death. The website,
Arthurian Adventure, creates a deeper comprehension of Sir Bedivere and his role in Arthurian
legends. Sir Bedivere is a perfect model of a medieval knight. Chosen to be the disciplinary marshal
of the Round Table, he holds a position of authority and importance among Arthur and... Show more

The page focusing on Sir Bedivere is found by looking at the long character list on the left side
task bar. The given information is educational and provides a remarkable overview of Sir
Bedivere s involvement in Arthurian legends. Mentioning Bedivere s duties, battles, relatives,
and example excerpts pertaining to him allow for a basic yet enlightening article. Unfortunately,
the website spectators may be disinterested due to the bland fonts and awkward arrangement.
The theme colors and designs match the medieval era perfectly, however, each is used in excess
and without pattern. Hyperlinks and tabs are randomly colored and either in mismatched font or
letter size compared to the rest of the screen. Sir Bedivere s page is full of fantastic graphics
depicting images from modern day locations as well as art from the time period. These
illustrations could have created a uniformity for the knight s individual page, instead the pictures
are placed randomly in the text area, causing the information, aligned justified, to become
unbalanced and unattractive. This internet source is poorly designed as it only utilized half of the
monitor. The frenzy of information is cut off so that the entire right half of the screen is a blank
design with no words or advertisements. While the aesthetics are a repellent, the material is worth
the overwhelming mess of colors and fonts. Arthurian Adventure is a site dedicated to the
information, not the optical taste. Sir Bedivere s actions are a stellar example of the unselfish life a
knight should lead. With deep devotion to his brothers and his king, he deserves respect from all
Arthurian fans. The last moments of Arthur s body and sword, Excalibur, are spent with this great
man. The website Arthurian Adventure gives viewers a visually weak but educational take on this

Antwone Fisher 3 Essay examples
Antwone Fisher in my opinion is probably the most impactful movie I have ever seen. People
may say, What a good movie but I say what a good man . Antwone Fisher grows up living in a
foster home where he is beaten, mentally and sexually abused. After spending time in an
orphanage he doesn t know what to do with his life. After thinking about it he decides to join the
Navy. The movie picks up with Antwone as a young sailor who has a problem controlling his anger.
Sent to a psychiatrist (played by Denzel Washington) he slowly begins opening up, learning to
confront the past that has fostered his long standing rage. Washington s psychiatrist becomes
Antwone s substitute father figure, the person who teaches him to drop his guarded... Show more

I don t know about you but that has to take a lot of courage to uncover your deep dark past. This
movie is filled with fear and courage and most of all the help of others.
There is one part in the movie that really made this movie one of the most impactful movies I have
ever seen. He made a poem and presented it to his psychiatrist. It read:
Who will cry for the little boy lost and all alone
Who will cry for the little boy abandoned without his own
Who will cry for the little boy he cried himself to sleep
Who will cry for the little boy who never had for keeps
Who will cry for the little boy who walked a burning sand
Who will cry for the little boy the boy inside the man
Who will cry for the little boy who knew well hurt and pain
Who will cry for the little boy who died and died again
Who will cry for the little boy a good boy he tried to be
Who will cry for the little boy who cries inside of me
This poem has a true meaning behind it. The meaning of it is of Antwone when he was little. He
would cry himself to sleep. He would get beaten over an over again. It just kept building up and
finally he cried for help on the inside. Luckily he got help from his psychiatrist before it was too
late. The last quote from the movie that made it such an impactful movie was, You are the champ,
you have beaten everyone who has beaten you In the end I think that Antwone Fisher is the most
impacting movie someone will ever see. Throughout

Horwitz And Foreign Language Anxiety
2.1.3.1.Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope s contribution and Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale
(FLCAS)
In 1986 Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope introduced their groundbreaking article and defined FLA as
an interrelated but a distinct type of anxiety for the first time: a distinct complex construct of self
perceptions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors related to classroom language learning arising from
the uniqueness of language learning process (Horwitz, Horwitz, Cope, 1986, p. 129). Based on
their teaching experience with foreign language students in university classes, Horwitz, Horwitz
and Cope suggested that FLA is not only a classroom anxiety being transferred to foreign language
classrooms, but a situation specific anxiety, which learners experience in the well defined, unique
situation of language classroom (Tran, 2012).
From a theoretical viewpoint, Horwitz et al. (1986) was not only concentrated on the definition of
the foreign language anxiety, but also on three important performance anxieties: communication
apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation, which they believed to be rewarding for
a better conceptualization of foreign language anxiety.

MacIntyre and Gardner (1989) have demonstrated cognitive effects of anxiety. They emphasized the
negative effects of anxiety in short and long term memory and how it causes limited vocabulary

pointed out that, in terms of language skills, students who have a high level of foreign language
anxiety tend to have poor language learning and achievement. Similarly, Aido (1994), Ying (1993),
Saito Sammiy (1996) have all reported that there might be a repetitive cause and effect relationship
between language anxiety and language

Capital Gains Tax Case Summary

Tax implications on a sale of land and an intended gift of the sale of proceeds
Counsel is asked to advise Mr Reginald Green who wishes to challenge an assessment of Capital
Gains Tax by the HMRC. Mr Green contends that the gain benefits from the relief in section 222 of

Summary of Facts
Mr Reginald Green sold a parcel of land 12 months ago. Mr Green sold his only house 7 years ago,
after which he retired and bought a canal boat. Mr Green lived on the boat for the next two years

Aristotle s Characteristic Perspectives Of Happiness
Many individuals attempt to characterize and consider diverse meanings of what happiness is,
and I believe that Plato and Aristotle offer intriguing perspectives of happiness and what it
implies for one to live a good life with great things surrounded by himself. Our two Philosophers
concur that happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to
carry on with a decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose,
or goal. For example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best
understands what a chair is. True happinessis when we see an end in itself which is supreme good .
However, it is very important to identify the true happiness from the false happiness. This confusion
might lead us to a life in a bubble with lot of imaginations.
It is very true that Happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue . Having a good job, loving
wife, and awesome lifestyle does not mean that someone has true happiness, but morally and
spiritually sound, good qualities, kindness, honesty, etc. Like Aristotle says main door(hallmark)
for true happiness which is virtue is achieved by how we maintain the mean which is how we
balance two excesses. (1106a 24 29) In Simple plan even though Hank had all those great
achievements in his life to be successful such as wife, house. Job, vehicle, he does not have a pure
heart. That is why once he saw the large amount of money he started showing

A retail pricing strategy where retail price is set at double the wholesale price. For example, if a

relatively high profit margin and the fact that other variables need to be taken into account.[7]

A cutoff cost is the value set by a monopolist to dishearten monetary section into a market, and is
illicit in numerous nations. The farthest point cost is the value that the contestant would look after

Persuasive Essay On Cyber Bullying
According to a study from the Pew Research Center, 92% of American teens go online to post,
like, comment, tweet, and re tweet at least a hundred photos a day. Preadolescents between the
ages of 9 15 primarily use social media websites as a portal to communicate with past friends, find
new ones, and to post about their day. However, the use of these sites such as Facebook, Twitter,
and YouTube etc. can put young kids at risk of being bullied online, stalked by predators and
pedophiles, and subjected to inappropriate pictures and videos. The truth is today youths lack the
basic understanding of the dangers that lurk within social media, and therefore should not be
allowed to use them until they can fully comprehend all the risks attached to using these sites.
A growing issue kids in America between the ages of 9 15 deal with today while using social media
sites is online bullying, also known as cyberbullying. It is a known fact that bullying can start in
school, and continue online. Young adolescents that use social media to harass their peers, use
them because they feel that it is the easiest, and the most effective way to torture their target
without getting caught. Based off a recent study on cyberbullying in 2014, it states that 52% of
young adults have reported being bullied online by a member of their class (Cyber Bullying
Statistics 2014, n.d.). Peer on peer online harassment is a serious issue that can come with some
very upsetting consequences like suicide, or retaliation that can change the lives of everyone
around them. In a story like Grace K. McComas a 15 year old Glenelg High student from
Baltimore who committed suicide on Easter morning of 2012 after being cyberbullied by her
peers for months (Ames, n.d.). Also the story about Noel Estevez, a 14 year old boy from New
York who killed his abuser by stabbing him 3 times on July of 2014, are some examples of how
bullying on social media websites can negatively affect young adults today. Kids should be banned
from using social media until they understand that the comments and posts that they put online can
often come with consequences that can take their life, or the life of their victims.
Today s youth also face the risk of being stalked by

Equal Employment Opportunity History and Laws Many of us have heard of or have been made
aware of the phrase Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO). But how many of us genuinely
comprehend the criterion of EEO and why it subsists? Equal Employment Opportunity laws are
designed to give all workers fair consideration on the basis of job performance rather than any
irrelevant personal factors. These laws are in place in order to prevent bias, prejudice, bigotry, and

Sections 102 and 103 of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 The Act authorizes compensatory and punitive
damages in cases of intentional discrimination, and provides for obtaining attorneys fees and the
possibility of jury trials. It also directs the EEOC to expand its technical assistance and outreach
activities (Federal EEO Laws, 2011).
Sections 501 and 505 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
This act is much like the ADA, the only difference is that the Rehabilitation Act is that it focuses on
the federal government. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was the first rights legislation to prohibit
discrimination against people with disabilities. However, this law applied to programs conducted
by Federal agencies, those receiving federal funds, such as colleges participating in federal student
loan programs, Federal employment, and employment practices of businesses with federal contracts
(The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 2011). Section 501 demands affirmative action and bans
discrimination in employment by Federal agencies. Section 505 includes steps managing solutions
and attorney s expenditures under Section 501 (The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 2011).

Analysis Of Exelon ( Rivastigmine Tartrate )
Exelon (Rivastigmine Tartrate) is a hydrogen tartrate salt of Rivastigmine that acts as a reversible
cholinesterase inhibitor. As a cholinesterase, it is administered in an increasing amount over a set
period of time. Through the inactivation of butyrlcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase, Exelon
prevents the breakdown of the chemical acetylcholine which is thought to be important in
memory, thinking, and reasoning. Due to these capabilities, it is frequently employed to combat
the effects of dementia due to Alzheimer s and Parkinson s diseases where patients tend to have a
lower concentration of acetylcholine. Rivastigmine is also under evaluation in clinical trials as a
treatment for cocaine dependence. It can be employed both orally and as a transdermal patch. The
patch is more popular due to fewer side effects. In addition, Exelon has a size of about 250Da per
moleculeНѕ this is small relative to the benchmark of 500Da for transdermal transfer. Its small
size combined with its lipophillic and hydrophilic nature makes it ideal for topical administration.
Rivastigmine has a halflife of about 1.5 hours and when taken in a transdermal patch, it has a lag
phase of between 0.5 and 1 hour. When taken orally, it has a bioavailability that is linear until
about 3mg at 40%. It then follows a nonlinear pharmacokinetic model, as its bioavailability will
increase with an increase in dosageНѕ when administered via transdermal patch, approximately
50% of the active ingredient is

Equal Rights for Same-Sex Couples Essays
Imagine being in love with someone, but never having the ability to make the relationship official.
For many same sex couples across the United States of America this is a reality. Even though great
strides have been made in the advancement of gay rights, homosexual couples still face opposition
from the Federal Government by being denied the right to a marriage. Same sex marriages should be
constitutionalized. While the Federal Government denies gay and lesbian couples the right to
marry, there are some state governments which allow same sex couples the right to domestic
partnerships, civil unions, and marriages. Comparing marriage to civil unions and domestic
partnerships is a bit like comparing diamonds to rhinestones (Human... Show more content on

These states which grant domestic partnerships and the states mentioned above which allow
civil unions are in the beginning stages of trying to rectify the Federal Government s Defense of
Marriage Act. Currently six states and one territory issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian
couples. These states are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and
Vermont plus the District of Columbia (Human Rights Campaign). Though these states and
Washington, D.C. allow gay marriage, these couples still do not have the same rights and
benefits as heterosexual couples. There are many financial benefits received from a marriage
which make it appealing to same sex couples. These rights and federal tax benefits are given to
married heterosexual couples, but homosexual couples do not receive them. Such benefits
include the couple filing for joint tax returns and inheriting money or property from his or her
spouse without paying tax (Zajac, Koova, and Rocks 29). Due to the Defense of Marriage Act
(DOMA), which states marriage as being a legal coming together of husband and wife (Zajac,
Koova, and Rocks 29), marriages for same sex couples are deemed unconstitutional. This means
that even though a state may approve and allow a gay couple to be married , the Federal
Government prohibits it. Gay and Lesbian couples along with many gay rights activists strongly
oppose the Defense Of Marriage Act. Even the Obama administration,

Effects Of Snapchat s Technological Disruption In The...
Snapchat s Technological Disruption in the Social Media Industry Throughout the past two
decades, social media has become a prevalent tool in one s life for purposes such as social
interaction from a distance, easy accessible information, and personal satisfaction from its
entertainment. Facebook introduced photography in social media, Twitter s purpose was to
have a status consisting of short, written expressions, and Instagram introduced filters into
sharing photos and videos. Due to technological advances, each of these companies have been
able to change society s use of social media overtime. However, one hot and new company has
been able to technologically disrupt the social media industry by giving their user a
tremendously different experience with digital interaction. This modern social media juggernaut
was founded by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown in 2011 (Brown no longer has
affiliation with the company). Snapchat is an application designed for one to share photos and
videos which disappear in a maximum of ten seconds. This allows its users to send or post any
information without having to stress about others judgement or the fear of regret. In an interview
with The Telegraph, Spiegel mentions one key reason why he created Snapchat: Snapchat changed
that perception of deleting something as bad. Online typically you delete something if it s bad or
if it s really embarrassing. What Snapchat said was if we try to model conversations as they occur

  • 3. Killer Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor Essay 1 Introduction The target of this research is to look at the frequency of a receptor a killer immunoglobulin like receptor (KIR) present on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells a key component of the innate immune system. This will begin by briefly discussing the innate immunity, NK cells, KIRs and their implications. 1.1 Innate Immunity The human immune system can be divided into two categories the adaptive immune system and innate immune system, however these two systems work in conjunction to form the immune response. The innate immune system also can be referred to as the non specific immune system and the first line of defence. As the name suggests the innate immune system is non specific and recognition and response to pathogens are generic. This system does not confer memory or long lasting protection from pathogens. The task of this system is to provide instant defence against pathogens which are present throughout individual s life s and can be found across other animals and plants. The defence ... The secondary defences can be divided up further into cellular factors consisting of macrophages and neutrophils which are phagocytic by nature (Galli, Borregaard, Wynn, 2011). The final cellular component are cytotoxic cells, NK cells and will be the focus of this research and discussed in greater detail in section 1.2.0. NK cells are a class of cytotoxic lymphocyte which protects the body from virally infected and cancerous cells. These cells can induce cell death by delivering cytotoxic granules and receptor mediated mechanisms, while also producing cytokines that aid in stimulating the immune cell functions seen in the soluble factors of the secondary defences (Caligiuri, ... • 4. Human Beings Have a Right to Die Essay Do people have the right to die? Is there, in fact, a right to die? Assisted suicide is a controversial topic in the public eye today. Individuals choose their side of the controversy based on a number of variables ranging from their religious views and moral standings to political factors. Several aspects of this issue have been examined in books, TV shows, movies, magazine articles, and other means of bringing the subject to the attention of the public. However, perhaps the best way to look at this issue in the hopes of understanding the motives behind those involved is from the perspective of those concerned: the terminally ill and the disabled. In the nursing home, they are understaffed, and do not have the proper understanding of your condition to care for you as you need to be. Instead, you are left to lie in bed day after day, unable to use anything but your mind. Once having a mere glimpse into the lives of the terminally ill or disabled, some are able to understand their plight; but usually most are not. In most cases, these people are able to take what they ve been given and deal with it. However, in some cases, some simply can not tolerate their lives as they are. They feel that the only solution to their problem is to end their lives. Unfortunately, in some cases, the terminally ill or disabled are not capable of accomplishing this task by themselves, and are left trapped in a life that they do not want. In these cases, when one wishes to end his life and is terminally ill, disabled, or otherwise unable to do so independently, he should have the right to die by assisted suicide. Although most people that are terminally ill or disabled do not wish to end their lives, there are still those few who do. While examining the issue of assisted suicide, three facets of the controversy must be considered: the political, the moral, and the human or compassionate views. By supporting their decision, we support their right to choose and decide what they want to do with their bodies and their lives, we do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While proposing those bills, he was constantly jeered and mocked. His image and reputation suffered, rumors were spread about him, yet he persevered. • 7. Allusions In Dracula Hidden in Bram Stoker s Dracula contains abundant amounts of allusions and social commentaries. These rhetorical devices help connect the reader to the experience of the novel and allow them to have a more in depth understanding of the characters, and usage of religious allusions abets the reader in achieving that goal. In the worldwide masterpiece Dracula, Stoker uses religious, mythical, and archetypical allusions to depict Dracula as a peculiar and distinct creature as well as providing social commentary for current problems during the late Victorian era. Dracula is seen as the evil mastermind and the villain in archetypal terms. He also has copious amounts of vampire characteristics; Dracula is described as brute, and more than brute: ... For example, many religious objects Dracula shows weakness to shows the chasm between the religions of Anglican and Catholic Church, as Crucifixes, communion wafers, and convents are not, despite the bulk of critical attention reading them thusly, exclusively Catholic (Bowles 2). Stoker is insinuating a possible mending of relations between the two religions. Also, the usage of religions items shows that science that the West uses cannot usurp Dracula; instead, the hero has to look into superstition for the cure. In this sense, science is portrayed as a dangerous entity and many old, superstitious beliefs are reconsidered. Simultaneously, Harker is seen as having a sense of condescending and untrustworthy attitude towards the east and their superstition, as shown a crucifix he has been taught to regard such things as in some measure idolatrous (Stoker 9). Stoker also seems ignorant of Eastern culture, as he does not know the meaning of eve of St. George s Day (Stoker 9). Also, from the fact that Roman Catholic populations within Ireland simply do not function in London , it is understandable why Harker sees another religion in a negative light. (Bowles 1) In the real world, Stoker is calling for reconciliation of religion, while in the novel, Stoker shows the reason Dracula cannot die easily. By forcing to use other cultures and their teachings, Stoker shows how others could have the answers and depict Dracula as an interesting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Puritans And The Pilgrims Research Paper Eric Swain Professor Wells HIS 121 9 August 2014 The Puritans and the Pilgrims: What made the Puritans different? Many Americans are familiar with the two groups, Puritans and Pilgrims, but most don t know the differences between them. The Puritans began a group of people that were members of the Anglican Church. Their goals were to rid the church of any remaining influences from Catholicism. They were mainly English Protestants of the 16th century who wanted to follow the Calvinist model of religion rather than the ever present Catholicism. Several Puritans lost faith in the Anglican Church and felt it could never be completely purified from all Catholic influence; as a result they abandoned the Church and completely separated themselves from the Anglican religion. These Puritans where referred to as Separatists. The remaining majority of Puritans inherited the title of non separating Puritans, over time these two groups would become increasingly hostile toward each other. The Puritans wanted to remain a part of the English establishment, and work toward reforming the church from within. All the while they immigrating to New England, they still held onto their English heritage, and their main emphasis in forming a new colony was to be a biblical witness so to say, the city on a hill . Plato is arguably the most famous philosopher from Ancient Greece. The Symposium, one of Plato s most famous works, is a brilliant piece of literature centered on a group of men telling their own versions of what they believe to be Love. The Goddess of Love however, is the main focus of Platos work more so than the act of actually being in love. This becomes the men s main focal point for the duration of their speeches. Both the story and the song, depict versions of love of Love that are relatively common. In the soft tones of La Vie En Rose, the perfection of what being in love can become is heard clearly. Believing that everything is wonderful and it could never change is a symptom of the rose coloured glasses Armstrong is singing about. Socrates in believes that Love can be both horrible and bad. Events that causes us to adapt, hopefully, for the better. Events that becomes experiences, which we learn from and evolve into a wiser self. However, these inspiring words and pithy phrases are more suited for those who seek a generic answer. While we have these moments of triumph and success, we also have terrors that reside on the opposite side of the spectrum. Moments of lasting pain and trivial endeavors that leave an imprint on us unlike the moments of joy. It is through man s isolation and pain that tell us not to talk to strangers or play with fire. Unfortunately, it is difficult to explain the feelings of pain than it is of joy. Franz Kafkaexplores these feelings. Franz Kafka journeys and displays the complicated genre of alienation and psychological tribulation of mankind in his stories, The Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist, and The Trial. On July 3, 1883, Franz Kafka was born to a mother who was oblivious to his ambitions and to a father who held the family with vises. In the city of Prague, where he was born, he saw the true face of his father within his household (Franz, par 1). A man who controlled everything and trivialized the aspect of creativity and imagination. During school and work, he always aspired to become a writer. However, he needed to have a stable job to continue his hobby of writing. Through his father s personality, Kafka derived his stories and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Thucydides at His Best Essays The true essence of human nature is seen during times of great hardships as can be seen comparing Pericles Funeral Oration and the plague in Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War. Thucydides accounts for many different aspects of justice, power, and human nature through his text. The order, the style of his writing, choice of words, and relations of what he believes actually happened, allows the reader to make different inferences about the message he s trying to convey. The juxtaposition of the two stories portrays many different characteristics to investigate and analyze. The question can be raised, why compare the funeral oration and the plague with each other, the answer simply lies in its order. Thucydides shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also shows that when powerful speakers used rhetoric, they would exaggerate. Pericles allowed the people to feel their city wouldn t be able to be destroyed, but the conceit he had for the city didn t turn out to be true. In the funeral oration there is a visual of continuous strength, courage, unity, fighting, and power that is building this great city called Athens, but then when looking at the plague, you see it break apart. Thucydides mentions the steps and characteristics of the symptoms the plague had on the human body. He describes it so that the reader sees how the plague affected the body, breaking it down organ by organ. This can relate to the breakdown of Athens due to the plague. It takes this one disease to take one human life as well as a strongly built city. He also shows the breakdown of the city by describing the setting, instead of seeing an orderly city with its beautifully established buildings, you d find dead people lying one on top of the other in the streets, sick people at the fountains, mostly signs of death around every corner. The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of the body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. The same can be said for the city. The plague hit the structure of the city, and destroyed it little by little, just as it destroyed the different parts of the body, eventually causing a break down of the empire, the same empire that ... • 25. Crossing Within Polylingual Families With Contested Structure Introduction This research seeks to examine crossing within polylingual families with contested structure. I analyzed a scene from the television show Trailer Park Boys in which a three member family interact using the concepts of crossing, facework, and footing, in order to answer my research question. I found that the central character uses crossing as a method of performing facework. As a result of this, he also indicates preference and dispreference to his family members. Theoretical Framework Crossing involves someone speaking in another language, dialect, or pattern which feels distinctly other (Rampton, 2000, p. 54). This can occur in a wide variety of contexts such as first generation Americans using English in a non English household in order to embrace one cultural system over another. Or, using a different pattern of speech around a significant other s parents in order to convey positive social values. In the case of the scene I analyzed, the central character s language is already crossed as he is a white man speaking almost exclusively African American Vernacular English (AAVE). He further uses crossing to interact with his Hispanic girlfriend. As a character, his crossed language is one of his most defining qualities, making him an interesting case study. Because of the character s use of AAVE as a white man, he can be juxtaposed with Mike , the person of interest in a study of white teens and AAVE adoption (Cutler, 1999). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Huei and Kun [2] proposed that the speed of moving objects in a single image can be estimated using the blur parameters, the camera parameters and imaging geometry. To illustrate, the displacement of a moving object (d) can be determined using similar triangles according to the blur length (k) Figure2. And by knowing the shutter speed of the camera (T), the speed of the object is v =d/T(1). Since this paper is concerned with Fourier Transform, the details of equation (1) are omitted and calculating the blur parameter is detailed below. The blur parameters, including the blurs direction and length, can be determined by examining their impact on the Fourier spectrum. As shown in figure, the Fourier spectrum of the motion blur contains strips of dark lines that are parallel and uniformly separated. Note that the Fourier spectrum depends on the objects orientation; so the direction of the motion blur could be extracted from the frequency spectrum. Also, as the blurs length increase, the edges get smoother, resulting in lower frequency response. These observations suggest that the frequency spectrum has all the needed information to determine the blurs parameters. In particular, the object shown in the figure is moving along the horizontal axis, and this caused the vertical orientation of the dark lines in the frequency spectrum. Furthermore, increasing the blurs length, which can be achieved by increasing the object s speed, lessens the distance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depression is a mental illness that not only affects how you mentally perceive reality, it affects how your brain processes and executes your actions as well. Depression has not only changed my ways of contemplating my everyday complications , but it has changed my belief about inner and self strength completely. Let me tell you, my depression is the reason I am writing about my belief, in gaining strength from desperate times. Now, I m 14 years young, and have lived in two different countries, one province, and two states in a matter of two and a half years. Which is part of the reason why I am a completely different person now. Moving is aggravating and exasperating for really anyone who goes through it, but it has a whole other perspective when you are a student in high school. Moving was upsetting and set my anxiety and depression off like a firecracker, but at the same time it was an adventure that I was lucky to have had. Why? Because it made me get out of the house and meet people. Sure, I could have stayed inside and slept all summer, but then I might not have been here typing this as of right now. Moving gave me strength by making me get out and find new things and new people. My experience with depression turned my whole life around. Stanhope then finds out that Raleigh is in his company and isn t too pleased that he is. • 38. Civil Liberties And The Government Of The United States Legal historian Geoffrey Stones claims that the government of the United States has in the past overreacted in times of war and crisis, and has seriously violated many civil liberties. A democracy requires high levels of civil rights, liberties, and political openness in order for its citizens to fully participate in political election, and other governmental activities; however, the demands of national security usually require much less openness, secrecy, and limitations on civil rights and liberties. Throughout history there have been times were large numbers of individuals have experienced political discrimination and have had great difficulty exercising their civil liberties. Ethnic minority groups, and immigrants have been among the most targeted by the government in times of crisis. Under conditions of war, American civil liberties and political participation are usually curtailed and violated in many ways by the government, usually with the active support of some groups and people in society. Times of national security threat are often accompanied by what historian Richard Hofstadter calls the paranoid style in American politics. In other words, war produces preoccupation with internal threats to national security, and some groups with in society are targeted as security ricks because of their ethnic or political belief. Our two Philosophers concur that happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to carry on with a decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose, or goal. For example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best understands what a chair is. Persuasive Essay On Cyber Bullying According to a study from the Pew Research Center, 92% of American teens go online to post, like, comment, tweet, and re tweet at least a hundred photos a day. Preadolescents between the ages of 9 15 primarily use social media websites as a portal to communicate with past friends, find new ones, and to post about their day. However, the use of these sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube etc. can put young kids at risk of being bullied online, stalked by predators and pedophiles, and subjected to inappropriate pictures and videos. The truth is today youths lack the basic understanding of the dangers that lurk within social media, and therefore should not be allowed to use them until they can fully comprehend all the risks attached to using these sites. A growing issue kids in America between the ages of 9 15 deal with today while using social media sites is online bullying, also known as cyberbullying. It is a known fact that bullying can start in school, and continue online. Young adolescents that use social media to harass their peers, use them because they feel that it is the easiest, and the most effective way to torture their target without getting caught. Based off a recent study on cyberbullying in 2014, it states that 52% of young adults have reported being bullied online by a member of their class (Cyber Bullying Statistics 2014, n.d.). Peer on peer online harassment is a serious issue that can come with some very upsetting consequences like suicide, or retaliation that can change the lives of everyone around them. Through the inactivation of butyrlcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase, Exelon prevents the breakdown of the chemical acetylcholine which is thought to be important in memory, thinking, and reasoning. Due to these capabilities, it is frequently employed to combat the effects of dementia due to Alzheimer s and Parkinson s diseases where patients tend to have a lower concentration of acetylcholine. Rivastigmine is also under evaluation in clinical trials as a treatment for cocaine dependence. It can be employed both orally and as a transdermal patch. The patch is more popular due to fewer side effects. In addition, Exelon has a size of about 250Da per moleculeНѕ this is small relative to the benchmark of 500Da for transdermal transfer.
