Comparing The Representation Of Women s The Yellow...
Compare the representation of women in Gilman s The yellow wallpaper and Austen s pride and
prejudice . To what extent do you agree with the view that Gilman presents conventional patriarchal
expectations of women, more critically than Austen.
Both Austen and Gilman breakthrough the conformity of femininity at a time of rising feminism in a
bid to encourage the female viewpoint which was put down or rather shunned to be less valuable by
the society they lived in. Gilman however presents it in a more peculiar and violent way in making her
character fall into sanity to bring across women s right of voice. One could argue Austen, although
subtly hinting at the affects or mocking patriarchy, does not seem to have as much of an impact or
focus on exploring the harsh conventional expectations women faced and the effect it had on
restraining their creative conscience.
Both authors focus on the unequal status of women within marriage. Gilman explores, Women s
obligation to remain in the domestic sphere. She argues that it steals them of the expression of their
full powers of creativity and intelligence. Her character jane, mocks the rational masculine
explanation in not believing in faith but rather figures in comparison Elizabeth s reading in pride and
prejudice allows her to explore her self identity. Both Austen and Gilman ironically mock the social
convention of men s rationality being above women s creativity. However, one could argue that in all

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
Do something about it. Everyone has problems from struggles in life. Malcolm X told his life story of
how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to
Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically by taking a
stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today s modern standards. Using his personal life
experience with racism towards African Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for all with
a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort to voice
his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more effective
message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and relatability to
establish a dominant impression upon the reader s mind. An example of this tone is when Malcolm, at
a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm tells Alex that It has
always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I can to be prepared (4).
The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel empathy for him, but to
appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in. When Malcolm chooses to
state die by violence (4) instead of describing what kind of violence or with more emotion, he gets the
reader past the emotional aspect of his belief with this stolid diction

To Kill A Mockingbird Mood Analysis
At times in life, you go through many things that you never knew you would have to experience. You
usually don t know what it feels like to do something until you actually do it. In the book, To Kill a
Mockingbird , Scout is a little girl growing up in an environment filled with cruelty. This is because of
how colored people were treated. Also, she would see how other people were like but she didn t truly
understand what it is like to be those people. Than she learns that you don t know something until you
re in it s place. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird , you can find many literary elements. Some of
them are the setting, characters, and mood.
In like manner, setting is an literary element that you can find in the scene that Scout discovers that
you don t truly know a person until you stand in their shoes and walk around in them. The setting is

Mood contributes to the book because at some point in the book, it can be such a happy moment but
than it can just turn into a sad moment. This is something that colored people faced a lot back in those
days and even in the book. For example, on chapter 25, it saids A crowd of black children were
playing marbles in Tom s front yard. A little girl grinned ear to ear. Sam was trotting behind his
mother when they came up. Dill said Helen said, evenin , Mr. Finch, won t you have a seat? But se
didn t say any more. Neither did Atticus. Scout said Dill, she just fell down in the dirt, Just fell down
in the dirt, like a giant with a nig foot just came along and stepped on her .This shows us that it was
just a normal day for Tom s family. The kids were playing and the family was together. They may
have had worries over Tom but they were happy until Atticus gave them the news. This was about
Tom being dead. That is when the whole mood of the story just changes from being normal to a dark

The J.B. by Archibald MacLeish Argues Why God Allows Evil...
If God is powerful and loving the humankind, then why does He permit evil as well as suffering in
this world? Various answers had been offered by many Christian philosophers and many victims of
suffering, but there was not a lucid answer that could settle this argument permanently. God uses
malicious acts of this world to rise up His own people and remind them that there is an opportunity
that they can posses their eternal life. Literature, especially biblical literature has exploited this
biblical nature to its fullest in various types of forms, including the play J.B. by Archibald MacLeish.
In the play J.B, Archibald MacLeish reanimates and modernizes elements taken from the story of Job
to come up with his own response to the ultimate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarah once asked her children on a Thanksgiving Day, Has anyone of you thanked God? Really
thanked Him? (29). At first, Sarah fearfully respects God, because she already knows that her
prosperity that she has today is going to be taken by God eventually. Sarah s true temperament is not
truly revealed after the death of her five children. Has death no meaning? Pain no meaning? , Sarah
questioned J.B (109). Sarah is bitter and angry at God, because she does not expect God to take away
her loved ones that fast. She even becomes more depressed and hopeless when J.B is still faithful to
God at this point. At the end of Scene Eight when Mrs. Murphy said, And he s alone now , implying
the leaving of Sarah for her own good. Sarah is an example of fake piety that is fallen after an
astonishing punishment. Just like the story of Job where god takes away Job s animals and family, J.B
s five children are now gone along with his job as a banker. Fortunately, J.B still stays strong despite
the fact that his family is corrupting, because he believes that God will show him his guilt as one of
God s puppet so he can be released from the prison of anxiety.

Eric Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Developmental psychology is a study of the growth and the maturation of a person over time. How the
individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of these factors
shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of
psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and
the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are
different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to
resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages,
because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life.
Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He
explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a
positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist
focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S).
The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain
about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has
to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The

George Dickie And I On The Aesthetic Attitude
George Dickie and I on the Aesthetic Attitude Does the term aesthetic attitude have a true definition,
or is it just a crafted myth charged with freeing the Aesthetic theory from an obsessive concern with
beauty? Is the idea of the aesthetic attitude a misleading way of understanding the aesthetic
experience? George Dickie tackles these tough questions in his critique of the aesthetic attitude titled,
The Myth of Aesthetic Attitude (which will from now on be referred to as TMAA). In this essay I will
discuss Dickies critique of the aesthetic attitude. In the first half I will consider the three main ways
Dickie characterizes the aesthetic attitude and explain why he considers it to be a myth. In the second
half I will examine the three reasons Dickie believes the aesthetic attitude is a misleading way to
understand the aesthetic experience and also explain why I strongly agree with his beliefs. George
Dickie begins his essay by introducing three theories that he categorizes according to how strongly he
believes they characterize the aesthetic attitude. He argues that the strongest theory, posed by distance
theorists Edward Bullough and Sheila Dawson, revolves around the technical term distance used in a
way similar to, The man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Four Print Magazine Advertisements
Print magazines ads can have a lot of influence in the world, like offering a new window into a
product that readers did not know before. Magazine ads offer a first impression for some introducing a

Primary diagnosis
Malignant neoplasm of head neck (ICD 10 CM C76.0) The head and neck cancers start in the mucosal
surfaces involving the squamous cells. The cancers are predominant in the mouth, nose and throat.
Some of the symptoms include lumps, sore throat, hoarse voice and trouble swallowing. It is noted
than head and neck cancers are more common in men that in women. Tobacco use, alcohol intake and
infection by human papilloma virus increase the risk of head and neck cancer (WoÅŗniak et al., 2012).
Rationale: The patient has a history of head and neck cancer that has been managed for the last one
year and has had chemotherapy and radiotherapy for 6 weeks. There is a report of cancer

Performance Comparison Of Industrial Project Delivery Systems
6. PERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF INDUSTRIAL PROJECT DELIVERY SYSTEMS 6.1
Research Setting The performance comparison was done using the same 439 Industrial project data
that was utilized for the correlation analysis. The three delivery systems compared are Design Build,
CM at Risk and the traditional Design Bid Build systems. The study aims to find significant difference
between the performances of fast track delivery systems (DB and CMR) and the traditional system.
The project performance was compared in terms of schedule, cost and change performance using the
same metrics as done for the Spearman s correlation analysis. 6.2 Assumptions Validation The
performance metrics that were tested were first checked for the normality assumption. None of the
variables satisfied normality according to the Q Q plots. Shapiro Wilk test was conducted on each
variable to ascertain the deviations from normal distribution. The cost performance generated a W =
0.918631 with a p value 0.0001 which supports the hypothesis that the data is not obtained from a
normal distribution. The W for schedule performance was 0.442249 with a p value 0.0001. Similar
was the case with cost change percentage (W = 0.748467, p value 0.0001) and schedule change
percentage (W = 0.519286, p value 0.0001). The Q Q plots are shown in Figure 24. Figure 24: Q Q

Design, Instrumentation And Analytical Tools Essay
The previous chapter focused on the identification and discussion of the theoretical framework, related
theories and the theoretical assertions of previous studies. This chapter identifies the methods, design,
instrumentation and analytical tools. The content of the chapter aims at the identification of
appropriate and suitable methods and the adoption of such within the confines of a systematic design
which clearly stipulates population and sampling procedures; data collection instruments with regards
to variable measurement and operational definitions, instrument reliability and validity as well as
descriptive and inferential statistical tools (Sekaran, 2003; Sarantakos, 2005). 3.2 Research Design
The research design is primarily concerned with the structure and framework of plans within which
empirical activities concerned with research are to be undertaken. It encapsulates concepts such as
population and sample of the study, methodology and characteristic of the study as well as instrument
for generation of data and defines the layout for the entire field work (Sullivan, 2001; Sarantakos,
2005). Similarly, Baridam (2008) describe research design as the basic question of how the focus of
the research will be brought into and how they will be employed within the research setting to obtain
the required information. It is a framework for collecting valid and reliable data to test the hypotheses
and answer the research questions. There are two main types of research

America Needs Greater Voter Participation Essay
Government and Politics America Needs Greater Voter Participation
We may live in a country that encourages voting in political elections, yet the level of voter turnout in
America is relatively small and continues to decline. Compared to other countries with democratic
governments, the United States falls very near the bottom of the list with its percentage of voter
participation. One explanation for this disturbing phenomenon states that the American system
requires more effort from voters, asking them to participate in more elections for more levels of
government with more elective offices at each level than any other country in the world (Schudson
159). In most other democracies, the citizens may be asked to vote only 2 or 3 ... Show more content

This encourages the formation of several parties to represent specific interests and generally, the wider
the selection, the higher the turnout rate (Edwards, Wattenber, and Lineberry 208). For example, the
American presidential election of 1992, when Ross Perot ran as the candidate for the Reform Party,
turnout levels increased (Teixeira 149).
The threat of large, influential socialist parties in many European democracies increase their incentive
to vote. When the decision has to be made between conservative or socialist control of the
government, the consequences for redistribution of income and the scope of government are far
greater than the ordinary American voter can conceive of (Edwards, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 246).
Some countries manufacture incentives by imposing fines on those eligible voters who do not show up
at the polls. Most Americans would consider an imposition of this sort extremely undemocratic. If
such a thing were attempted in America, I believe that we would see the highest levels of turnout ever
in an election, but only long enough to vote that proposition down, and exercise the power of recall on
every elected official that supported it in the first place!
Another explanation for the differences between American turnout and

He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on
frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many
valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classiļ¬ed documents.
Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray. At the time,
homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross indecency. He was then
given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with estrogen hormone injections,
choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was
barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British government. The treatments subjected him
to years of pain and mental relapses from the hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of
chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance slowly began to wither as he became psychologically
traumatized from the drugs. He began to shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one
point stabbed himself in his leg with a knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him
dead. It appeared that Turing committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In
1966, the annual Turing Award was established and given each year to a person for technical
contributions to the computing community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize.

Essay on Should the 22nd Admendment be Repealed
In the political world today there are so many different opinions about several different topics. The
topics that I will address to you will be, should the 22nd Amendment be repealed and also should the
foreign born be allowed to run for president. In both topics you may have your pros and cons, but I am
strongly against the both of them because I feel that the Constitution should not be taken advantage of.
Government should not be allowed to manipulate the Constitution to suit his or her needs. While
making adjustments to the Constitution to allow different things to take place for convenience doesn t
leave any form respect of the Constitution. There should be a line drawn to keep this from happening
for years to come on these issues and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American people are use to being able to vote for a new president especially if the one that is in office
is not doing a good job for the people. I like the way it is because when we limit it to only two terms it
helps bring in qualified people with new views and that may have a different outlook on how things
are being handled in the White House. Conflict will arise either way you choose to go and personally I
think that if it isn t broke why try to fix it. We as voters enjoy exercising our right to vote, but I
strongly feel that the government has the right to put who it wants in office no matter what. So,
presidents having limits on how long they can run is our savior because sometimes you can vote and
vote and your voice remain unheard.
In addition to the 22nd amendment being repealed, there have been several talks about also allowing
foreign born to run for president. According to the USA Today, polls aren t showing favor for putting
someone born in a foreign country in the top position as the President of the United States (Kasindorf,

The Full Effects of War Essay
War is one thing that we all know is a necessary evil. The United States has been involved in many
wars since being founded in the late 1700 s. There are many reasons that the United States has been
involved in, or is currently involved in wars. Although war is not always a popular thing to become a
part of, the full effects of the war are not always known and may never be known as long as the United
States is a country. Stephen Crane tells us that there are many effects of war in his poem War is Kind .
From that it can be derived that physical, mental, family, etc are all effects of war needing to be
monitored. All of these effects are causing hardships among the people that are coming home from
these battles either directly or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These effects are all common in the world today, even without war being the cause, many
underdeveloped countries around the world that have the aforementioned malnutrition and suffering.
Hopefully, the United States can help soldiers coming home from wartime missions with the physical
aspects of the home life that they are no longer able to perform anymore. One way that we as a
country can help out the soldiers is to fit them with the limb, or body parts that they have lost.
According to Spc. Lorie Jewell, prosthetics are keeping soldiers in the mainstream of life and in some
cases, on active duty (Jewell). One example of the work that has been put into helping soldiers is the
following; Spc. Lewis, 20, knew very little about prosthetics just a few months ago. A Jan. 21 mortar
attack on an Army camp near Baqubah, Iraq changed that. Lewis was a communications equipment
repair specialist attached to the 588th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. It
was early evening and he was standing next to his vehicle, talking and smoking with two friends
when, without warning, a mortar round hit them. From the ground Lewis recalled looking up to see
most of his right leg completely severed from his body. The two friends were dead. Two months later,

My Love Letter
The sole qualification for writing a love letter is that you feel the love and want to express it. That s
the beauty of it. But it would be trite and probably false to say that as an expat, I can love Canada
more truly (observe: Gord Downie). I think it interesting, however, that my love for Canada has grown
up become richer, more intentional and more constant since I left.
I moved with my family from Toronto to New York in 2014 to take a job teaching philosophy a
fantasy job, a world class city.
The months before leaving were a time of pre emptive nostalgia, but I thought the pain I was feeling
and its peculiar sweetness were for the rites of passage ahead. Leaving the city where my children
were born. Leaving my friends as they were leaving me, all leaves on the wind of the horrid academic
job market. Leaving my student days behind.
All that was real.
I was raised, as is any self respecting Northwestern Ontarian, to hate Toronto. But, I loved Toronto
passionately, completely. My husband, from Montreal and similarly brought up, was equally smitten.
Of course, it was hard to leave. Of course, it would be sad. We went back for my convocation at the
University of Toronto a few months after moving to New York and it was wrenching the geographical
version of seeing your gorgeous ex too soon after the breakup.
But two things happened that made me realize the bittersweet quality of our departing days wasn t just
about Toronto, or the life we had built there.

Symbols Used In Ground Zero Cross
Among one of the most famous symbols used in Ground Zero is the Ground Zero Cross. It represents
the spiritual and physical healing this country desperately needed. After the attacks on 9 11, Fr. Brian
Jordan OFM, a Roman Catholic Franciscan priest, said it was a symbol of hope... [a] symbol of faith...
[a] symbol of healing. Symbols are very important and influential to everyone. Symbols holds a
hidden meaning that, in most cases, are more influential than telling it blunt. Yes, sometimes telling it
bluntly works but putting it as a symbol shows a deeper meaning and relevance to what you, your
community, or your nation stands for. This symbol, the Ground Zero Cross, reveals that our country

Research Report On Emergency Management Essay
Research in Emergency Management
Research in Emergency Management is important in order to obtain the information needed to
continue improving processes in the future. Without this material, natural disasters and other events
will continue to ruin lives either by death or destruction. There are approaches to lessen the impact and
to recover quicker, and with research done correctly and thoroughly, these approaches can be put into
place sooner rather than later.
Within research in Emergency Management, there are different methods to obtain data that is
beneficial not only to the researcher, but the participants. These methods include experiments, surveys
and case studies. Inside each of these studies, there are many options on how to acquire the material
depending on the situation. How the information is broken down, whether it s quantitative or
qualitative can make a difference in the results, and will be explained after how to gather the data.
Finally, what to do with the results and who/how to present them is the last piece of conducting the
research in order to improve the process.
Different types of experiments are used during research in emergency management. In a classic
experiment, subjects are either people or animals and put into two arbitrary groups. These groups
consist of the experimental group and the control group according to van Thiel. (van Thiel, ).
Conducted in a research laboratory, the experiment group undergoes one test, while the control group

The Importance Of Karma In Jainism
Karma, in Jainism, is physical matter or (ajiva) that are attracted to the soul by its actions. This karma
then obscures the purity of the soul making it difficult for an individual to achieve liberation or
(moksha). In this religion, the complexity of karma is understood to have an effect in both the physical
sense as well as in the spiritual realm. It is believed that one cannot fully liberate from samsara unless
the soul is cleansed of all karma, dark or light. Because achieving moksha is no easy feat, many souls
continue to endure samsara by accumulating more karma. To stop the continuous accumulation of
karma and achieve moksha, one must allow the soul to endure a journey of extreme asceticism.
Though many souls are not able to embark on this journey, all Jains make five ethical vows which
include ahimsa, satya, asteya, brahmacharya, and aparigraha. Through austere practices of self
discipline, those that desire to reach moksha must follow three main principles, ahimsa, anekantavada,
and aparigraha. Following these principles allows one s soul to rid of all physical evils and eventually
detach from the body to unite with other perfected souls in Siddha Loka or the World of Saints .
Avoiding Karma in Jainism is an autonomous quest done through intense altruism, self restraint and
patience. Ahisma meaning non violence is one of the fundamental principles of Jainism that
individuals practice to avoid karma. This is the belief that one should not harm any form of

The Gas Of Houston Natural Gas
Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas of Houston (HNG), Texas and
InterNorth. Houston natural gas covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running
from east to west and InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from
north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company
sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In
the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123
million. InterNorth was a natural pipeline company located in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1984 InterNorth
had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a
buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low
debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and
borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed
heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore merging with Houston
Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984 InterNorth acquired
HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that
time. The negotiations for HNG were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for

Court Observation Paper The court I attended was the court # 184, on October 25th 2015 at Harris
County Criminal Justice Court , located in downtown of Houston city. The Judge in charge was Jan
Krocker. It was an aggravated sexual assault of child case between The State of Texas vs. Samuel

trial started. I sat in the back where the public sits, facing the judge bench. The courtroom was cold
and quiet. Especially it was very small, much smaller and less impressive than I expected.. Everyone
was in formal dressing code. There were just a few number of spectators and family members in the
court room. There was a clerk who was typing everything what was happening during the court time.
Judge Krocker appeared to have things under control and had the proceedings moving forward
smoothly. She was a very friendly lady with short blonde hair. She was listening attentively. She spoke
clearly and distinctly so that everyone in the courtroom could hear. Samuel Gallegos is a white man
about 5 8 tall. He looked quite nervous while some police officers were standing behind him. From
what I understood, this case was really happening back in 2014 and the suspect has criminal history
relating to assault of child and another related case to this case. On my left hand side were the bailiffs

The Negative Effects Of Modern Technology
Technology is the distribution of intelligence that deals with the arrangement and use of industrial
means and their relationship with life, society, and the environment. Since the establishment of
modern technology has been entangled with it. On average a smartphone user will check their phones
150 times a day . And that is just how the people cooperate with their Smartphone. Technology has a
large negative effect on society. Neurologists worry that if unless we wake up to the catastrophe that
the appliance filled, stimulant enhanced 21st century is doing to the human brain. Humans could be
sleepwalking towards a forthcoming in which most of the living things eventually become artificial.
Electricity is the advanced technology that separates the line between living and nonliving machines,
and between our bodies and the outside world. There are several reasons how today s machinery could
be helping the civilization, however it is needed to be cautioned that there are more considerable cons
that come along with technology as well. For instance, children are becoming too reliable on
technology that they have an absence of any physical abilities thus becoming lazy and overweight. Or
having teenagers not have skills in writing that are mandatory for everyone to effectively
communicate with each other exclusively in a professional environment. Today s civilization lives in a
world of artificial intelligence that is blinded from all of the cons. Modernized technology has played
a very important role in affecting both types of relationships. Although modern technology helps
people to connect with the past, present, and the future, it has subsidized to the eradication of
relationships. Examples of modern technology that has impacted relationships include smart phones,
laptops, and computers. Furthermore, the internet is the most dedicated modern technology used in the
form of emails, Facebook, MySpace, and Snapchat. Modern technology has not accomplished to
entitle people to fully express their feelings. This is because without face to face communication,
emotions could be misunderstood which often results in conflicts. Technology has been a cause to the

The Marine Insurance Act 1906
Introduction.
The Marine Insurance Act 1906 ( MIA 1906 ) sets out a duty of utmost good faith between contracting
parties in insurance contracts. This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes a heavy
burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate, culminating in
statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised form, focusing on
whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained.
The duty in brief.
Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full disclosure
between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It has been
suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties . UGF instead
imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive obligation to
disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract.
The roots of the duty of utmost good faith.
The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in
Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure on
the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information
between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally only
known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord

The Relationship Between Madness And Creativity, By...
Whether it is a natural talent or an acquired skill; writing allows artists to bring their creative
expression to life. Interestingly enough, there is a widespread belief that some writers develop their
creativity and knack for writing through suffering from a mental illness. This belief stems from past
research based on the relationship between madness and creativity, especially in the writing field.
Katherine M. Thomas and Marshall Duke wrote the article, Depressed writing: Cognitive distortions
in the works of depressed and non depressed poets and writers. Their article focuses on digging deeper
into the relationship between madness and writing by making an in depth analysis of writing samples
from depressed writers versus the writing samples of those who weren t. Duke and Thomas found that
there is a need for analyzing works of writing because it may provide understanding in the
relationship, which will lead to an understanding of depression and mental illness. Due to this widely
known relationship, some may look at mental illness in a positive light. This relationship may cause
people to look at the distortions as simply art; thus, diminishing the severity of mental illness. When
looking at psychological distortions from an artistic perspective, this may remove the humanity of the
writer; therefore; it is important to analyze and seriously look for the signs of cognitive distortions
because it may help us understand and possibly distinguish the relationship between

Research Methodology Of A Research Approach Essay
3. Research Methodology In order to address the objectives set out in this research, a quantitative
research approach has been employed and follows models developed by Tinbergen (1962),
MacCullum (1995), Andrew (2002), and Augustin and Tawah (2012). The study is designed in such a
way that it doesn t take the entire model developed by any one of these scholars, instead it adopts
those variables which are appropraite to the situation under investigatation and adds some relevant
explanatory variables. 3.1. Research Design In this study, 11 independent variables have been used to
measure the pattern of the dependent variable. Dependent variable vary by the factors that influence
them where as independent variables stand on their own changes in other variables in the model have
no effect on them. An independent variable in one context may be a dependent variable in another.
The dependent variable in this research is the average of bilateral trade and the research is designed to
learn more about the determinants of the direction of trade in the EAC member states. GDP in both
trading partners, distance between the centers in both the trading partners, number of people in both
countries, membership in a preferential trade agreement, the existence of common border, language,

American Satire Examples Of Satire
In the Netflix mockumentary series, American Vandal, created by Dan Perrault, the main character
Dylan Maxwell, an 18 year old senior at Hanover High School was held responsible for performing
vandalism on 27 cars causing $100K worth of disfiguring. Everybody believed that Dylan was in
charge of the destruction, despite the fact that he claimed innocence. Instead, they thought Alex
Trimboli, the eyewitness, Ms Shapiro, the Spanish teacher and everyone else that claimed he was
behind the vandalism were speaking the truth. They put Dylan as the prime suspect based on his past
with Ms Shapiro and furthermore because they believed he was capable of committing such crime.
The examples of satire that the creators used were humour, exaggeration and irony. A diversion was
utilised to make the show enjoyable for young people, yet with the use of satire, they could influence
teenagers to appreciate the show while accepting a genuine message about how a false allegation
against anyone could destroy their lives. Many of the people in the show were biased against
rebellious teenagers which was something that Dylan was known for being. In the mockumentary,
Dylan Maxwell was accused based off his image, his past, as well as his lifestyle. A significant
number of the students that were requested to share their opinion said that what Dylan had to state did
not make a difference since he was imbecilic and so forth. The thesis of the show is never to prejudge
a person based on their past.

My Life As A Better Life
A lot of people would always look back at their childhood and say, Wow! Those were good times. To
me, it wasn t. I was easy to get picked on as I was chubby and I am unable to speak Bahasa Indonesia
fluently. In my elementary school, I began to get a lot of hatred from my classmates as they would
speak behind my back. I began to hate humanity and began to develop depression over the years. As I
was always being picked on, I was unable to create any friends until I moved to Malaysia. When I
moved to Malaysia, I had a mindset of: There is no point of making any friends. This all changed once
I met Chan Young Jeon, or as known as CY. Despite my traumatizing childhood, CY helped me
experience a better life with his compassion, diligence, and creativity. Having the ability to analyze
other people just by looking at them is something unique, most of us cant do it but CY can. CY has
this ability and it has become second nature for him. When I moved to Malaysia, he could tell that I
was timid. When he sat next to me, he began to ask questions about my age, the places I ve been and
my impression of Malaysia. At first, I did not know what to do because usually, no one would go up to
me. When he struck a conversation, I began to mumble and he could tell I was scared. As he realized
this, he took me around the school and I asked him questions such as How is the community here? Are
they friendly? When I asked him these questions, he immediately knew I got bullied frequently. He
began to introduce me to some of his friends and taught me how to socialize. Out of curiosity, I asked
him Why are you helping me? He replied back I know you have been through a rough patch and you
seem like you need a friend to guide you. I began to understand why he was compassionate towards
other people. He did this to make sure that they are not alone in this and lending a helping hand allows
other people to not feel abandoned. CY wasn t very diligent in school. He is a strong procrastinator
and he would try to skip school. Despite his bad habits, he was able to make money independently by
creating his own small business. He put countless hours into his new business as he would research on
the latest trends. At the end of the day,

Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt And Woodrow Wilson
Over the course of American history we have had forty four presidents who rose to meet the public
demand. As with everything, there were presidents who did a great job leading the country and others
who did a flat out terrible job. There are two presidents who stand out amongst the crowd as the best
and worst presidents, they are Franklin D. Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) is praised by many as one of the best presidents for good reason. He was
a tremendous president, with one of the biggest and most helpful thing he did as president being the
New Deal. When elected, FDR was not afraid to focus on helping the American people out. He knew
that something had to be done to get us out of the Great Depression. This is where the New Deal come
into play; it started with the creation of jobs to get America back to work. In May of 1920 FDR signed
the Tennessee Valley Authority Act into law, creating thousands of jobs to build dams to control
flooding and provide hydro electric power to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sedition Act of 1918 was signed into effect by Woodrow Wilson after he urged congress to do so.
This act was a blatant offence against the Constitution and the people. This act expanded on the
Espionage Act which made it legal for the government to charge and arrest anyone who spoke bad
about the government, flag, or a important political figure such as Wilson himself. The act, along with
other similar federal laws, was used to convict at least 877 people in 1919 and 1920, according to a
report by the attorney general. (PBS.org) People tried to challenge this act in court cases such as Debs
v. United States and Abrams v. United States, yet the courts upheld the conviction and the act every

Benefit Of Moderate Drinking
Benefits of Moderate Drinking Drinking alcohol can be good for your health and studies have shown
that boozing on occasion has some perks which includes reduced stress, decresed risk of heart attacks,
and lower chances of diabetes. Social drinking is used by many people globally. Kloner et al.(2007)
from the School of Public Health at Harvard University found that moderate amounts of alcohol raises
levels of high density lipoprotein, and higher HDL levels are associated with greater protection against
heart disease. Moderate alcohol consumption has also been linked with beneficial changes ranging
from better sensitivity to insulin to improvements in factors that influence blood clotting. Such
changes would tend to prevent the formation of small blood clots that can block arteries in the heart,
neck, and brain, the ultimate cause of many heart attacks and the most common kind of stroke. This
finding is applicable to both men and women. HDL cholesterol is the well behaved good cholesterol .
It removes harmful bad cholesterol from where it doesn t belong.
Drinking in moderate amounts can lead to certain psychological benefits, as research show. Low
levels of alcohol can reduce stress, anxiety and help reduce tension. Studies show that low levels of
comsupmtion get more sleep on average than those who sleeps in excess. In addition, consumption
can also cause the comsumer to feel more relaxed. These psychological effects of moderate drinking
are positive ones that can be

  • 2. Comparing The Representation Of Women s The Yellow... Compare the representation of women in Gilman s The yellow wallpaper and Austen s pride and prejudice . To what extent do you agree with the view that Gilman presents conventional patriarchal expectations of women, more critically than Austen. Both Austen and Gilman breakthrough the conformity of femininity at a time of rising feminism in a bid to encourage the female viewpoint which was put down or rather shunned to be less valuable by the society they lived in. Gilman however presents it in a more peculiar and violent way in making her character fall into sanity to bring across women s right of voice. One could argue Austen, although subtly hinting at the affects or mocking patriarchy, does not seem to have as much of an impact or focus on exploring the harsh conventional expectations women faced and the effect it had on restraining their creative conscience. Both authors focus on the unequal status of women within marriage. Gilman explores, Women s obligation to remain in the domestic sphere. She argues that it steals them of the expression of their full powers of creativity and intelligence. Her character jane, mocks the rational masculine explanation in not believing in faith but rather figures in comparison Elizabeth s reading in pride and prejudice allows her to explore her self identity. Malcolm X told his life story of how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically by taking a stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today s modern standards. Using his personal life experience with racism towards African Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for all with a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort to voice his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more effective message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and relatability to establish a dominant impression upon the reader s mind. An example of this tone is when Malcolm, at a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm tells Alex that It has always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I can to be prepared (4). The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel empathy for him, but to appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in. When Malcolm chooses to state die by violence (4) instead of describing what kind of violence or with more emotion, he gets the reader past the emotional aspect of his belief with this stolid diction ... Various answers had been offered by many Christian philosophers and many victims of suffering, but there was not a lucid answer that could settle this argument permanently. God uses malicious acts of this world to rise up His own people and remind them that there is an opportunity that they can posses their eternal life. Literature, especially biblical literature has exploited this biblical nature to its fullest in various types of forms, including the play J.B. by Archibald MacLeish. How the individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of these factors shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is the idea of the aesthetic attitude a misleading way of understanding the aesthetic experience? George Dickie tackles these tough questions in his critique of the aesthetic attitude titled, The Myth of Aesthetic Attitude (which will from now on be referred to as TMAA). In this essay I will discuss Dickies critique of the aesthetic attitude. In the first half I will consider the three main ways Dickie characterizes the aesthetic attitude and explain why he considers it to be a myth. In the second half I will examine the three reasons Dickie believes the aesthetic attitude is a misleading way to understand the aesthetic experience and also explain why I strongly agree with his beliefs. Compared to other countries with democratic governments, the United States falls very near the bottom of the list with its percentage of voter participation. One explanation for this disturbing phenomenon states that the American system requires more effort from voters, asking them to participate in more elections for more levels of government with more elective offices at each level than any other country in the world (Schudson 159). In most other democracies, the citizens may be asked to vote only 2 or 3 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The threat of large, influential socialist parties in many European democracies increase their incentive to vote. When the decision has to be made between conservative or socialist control of the government, the consequences for redistribution of income and the scope of government are far greater than the ordinary American voter can conceive of (Edwards, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 246). Some countries manufacture incentives by imposing fines on those eligible voters who do not show up at the polls. Most Americans would consider an imposition of this sort extremely undemocratic. If such a thing were attempted in America, I believe that we would see the highest levels of turnout ever in an election, but only long enough to vote that proposition down, and exercise the power of recall on every elected official that supported it in the first place! One way that we as a country can help out the soldiers is to fit them with the limb, or body parts that they have lost. According to Spc. One example of the work that has been put into helping soldiers is the following; Spc. Lewis, 20, knew very little about prosthetics just a few months ago. A Jan. 21 mortar attack on an Army camp near Baqubah, Iraq changed that. Lewis was a communications equipment repair specialist attached to the 588th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. It was early evening and he was standing next to his vehicle, talking and smoking with two friends when, without warning, a mortar round hit them. This karma then obscures the purity of the soul making it difficult for an individual to achieve liberation or (moksha). In this religion, the complexity of karma is understood to have an effect in both the physical sense as well as in the spiritual realm. It is believed that one cannot fully liberate from samsara unless the soul is cleansed of all karma, dark or light. Because achieving moksha is no easy feat, many souls continue to endure samsara by accumulating more karma. To stop the continuous accumulation of karma and achieve moksha, one must allow the soul to endure a journey of extreme asceticism. Though many souls are not able to embark on this journey, all Jains make five ethical vows which include ahimsa, satya, asteya, brahmacharya, and aparigraha. Through austere practices of self discipline, those that desire to reach moksha must follow three main principles, ahimsa, anekantavada, and aparigraha. Following these principles allows one s soul to rid of all physical evils and eventually detach from the body to unite with other perfected souls in Siddha Loka or the World of Saints . HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In 1984 InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes a heavy burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate, culminating in statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised form, focusing on whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained. The duty in brief. Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full disclosure between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It has been suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties . UGF instead imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive obligation to disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract. The roots of the duty of utmost good faith. The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure on the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally only known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interestingly enough, there is a widespread belief that some writers develop their creativity and knack for writing through suffering from a mental illness. This belief stems from past research based on the relationship between madness and creativity, especially in the writing field. Katherine M. Thomas and Marshall Duke wrote the article, Depressed writing: Cognitive distortions in the works of depressed and non depressed poets and writers. Their article focuses on digging deeper into the relationship between madness and writing by making an in depth analysis of writing samples from depressed writers versus the writing samples of those who weren t. Duke and Thomas found that there is a need for analyzing works of writing because it may provide understanding in the relationship, which will lead to an understanding of depression and mental illness. Due to this widely known relationship, some may look at mental illness in a positive light. This relationship may cause people to look at the distortions as simply art; thus, diminishing the severity of mental illness. When looking at psychological distortions from an artistic perspective, this may remove the humanity of the writer; therefore; it is important to analyze and seriously look for the signs of cognitive distortions because it may help us understand and possibly distinguish the relationship between ... When I moved to Malaysia, he could tell that I was timid. When he sat next to me, he began to ask questions about my age, the places I ve been and my impression of Malaysia. At first, I did not know what to do because usually, no one would go up to me. When he struck a conversation, I began to mumble and he could tell I was scared. As he realized this, he took me around the school and I asked him questions such as How is the community here? Are they friendly? When I asked him these questions, he immediately knew I got bullied frequently. He began to introduce me to some of his friends and taught me how to socialize. Out of curiosity, I asked him Why are you helping me? He replied back I know you have been through a rough patch and you seem like you need a friend to guide you. I began to understand why he was compassionate towards other people. He did this to make sure that they are not alone in this and lending a helping hand allows other people to not feel abandoned. CY wasn t very diligent in school. He is a strong procrastinator and he would try to skip school. Despite his bad habits, he was able to make money independently by creating his own small business. He put countless hours into his new business as he would research on the latest trends. At the end of the day, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
