Abraham Lincoln 16th President Essay
Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States. An honest man, a man for the people, a
strong leader, the President that freed the slaves, just a few things that come to your mind when you
think of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a one room log cabin on Nolin
Creek in the southeast of Hardin County in the state of Kentucky; where he lived with his parents
Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks until 1816, then moved to Perry County, Indiana. At the young age
of nine years old Nancy died of milk sickness after his father mourned the lost of his mother Thomas
then later was remarried to Sarah Bush Johnston. Lincoln and Sarah were actually very close, he even
referred to her as mother rather than Stepmother or Sarah. Shortly after Lincoln experienced another
move, when the family relocated to Macon County, Illinois. Lincoln never went to college, in fact he
only had 18 months of schooling. After his election to the state legislature, Lincoln wanted to become
a lawyer, and began to teach himself the law by reading. He was ... Show more content on

Lincoln s two political heroes, Henry Clay and Thomas Jefferson, both slave owners, saw no way that
blacks and whites could ever live together in peace. Lincoln first publicly advocated for colonization
in 1852, and in 1854 said that his first instinct would be to free all the slaves, and send them to
Liberia. In hopes of getting their support on a plan for colonization in Central America, Lincoln hosted
a delegation for freed slaves at the White House. Given the differences between the two races and the
hostile attitudes of whites toward blacks. He argued that it would be better for us both, therefore, to be
separated. Lincoln s support of colonization provoked great anger among black leaders and
abolitionists, who argued that African Americans were as much natives of the country as whites, and

Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Icmart )
INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND
The world has witnessed a marked increase in patients presenting to infertility clinics in the past three
decades.1 Nigeria lies within the infertility belt where prevalence of infertility is at the highest.2
Infertility has been found to be the leading reason for gynaecological consultations (accounting for
about 60%) with a prevalence of about 15% in Nigeria.3 According to the World Health Organization
(WHO) and International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART),
infertility is defined clinically as a disease of the reproductive system characterized by a failure to
achieve successful pregnancy after twelve months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.4
Reproduction either in vivo or in vitro is dependent on the presence of viable gametes (sperm and
ovum), a successful sperm to ovum interaction; fertilization and an effective implantation of the
fertilized ovum onto the endometrial wall of the uterus.3 In a study carried out in south western
Nigeria, the common causes of infertility were: tubal factor (39.5%), uterine factor (30%), and ovarian
factor (13%).5 Other causes included cervical factor (3%), pelvic inflammatory disease PID (5.5%),
and endometriosis (2.5%).5
In vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment offers the highest pregnancy rate irrespective of the cause of
infertility.6 The first successful IVF procedure was documented by Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe in
1978, where ova and sperm were

Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term...
Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s.
Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two
sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other
language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one
of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both
sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals
(Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for
weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties
(lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore,
bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary
to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter
version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical
representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition
for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the
present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency
task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we
expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested
in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and
word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994;
Service and Martin, 1997). For example, adults nonword repetition performance predicted their ability
to learn novel words in a foreign language (Speciale, Ellis and Bywater, 2004 as cited in Kaushankaya
et al.). Similarly, Rosen and Engle (1997) found

In November of 2007, Amanda Knox, native of Seattle, Washington was living in Perugia, Italy with

their alike personalities. While living in Italy, Knox met Raffaele Sollectio and immediately fell in
love. She then began spending much more time with Sollectio and less time with her friend, Meredith.
On November 1st of 2007, the lives of not only Meredith would be impacted, but the entire city of

The Effect Of Salmon Kills On The Klamath
1. Salmon is everything was written about the 2002 fish kill on the Klamath river. There were several
factors that lead to the writing of salmon is everything. The most important of which was that there
was a lack of awareness in the community. The play was written so that people outside of the native
communities could better understand how the fish kill had effected those communities. The second
objective was to help and bring together the different viewpoints on the Klamath. I think that this play
was necessary because it helped to educate the local communities as well as bring the various
viewpoint together on to one stage.

Silas Deane Research Paper
History is often said to be what has happened in the past, and a historian s job is to bring that
information back, without distorting it. This undistorted passing of history is often times may not
always be achieved, and the story of the death of Silas Deane is a great example of that The formerly
known story was one of rags to riches, and back to rags. He was born to a humble blacksmith, who
had high aspirations for his son, and sent him off to Yale, where he studied law. He opened his own
practice and was very successful. Not satisfied, he entered into the world of politics, working his way
up the ladder, eventually becoming a delegate to the first and second Continental Congresses, drawing
the attention of leaders. He was then sent to France as the American representative of the colonies,
later joined by Benjamin Franklin and Arthur Lee. He was described as ambitious and someone to be
watched, even accused of using his position in government for personal profit. Further controversy
forced him out of France, America, and England, ending up in Flanders. He lived there until the
controversy died down some and then moved to England, where he lived in obscurity, resorting to
drinking, and living in the house of a prostitute. His one loyal friend, Edward Bancroft, provided
financial support for him. When he thought the coast was clear to move back, he set sail for America
aboard the Boston Packet out of London. On its way, a storm came, blowing out both of the ships

Hospital Birth Defects
Birth Defects Associated With Out Of Hospital Births
At a point in history, Homebirths and Midwives were prevalent when delivering. However; the use of
these two methods plateaued as many people were concerned with the health of the infants and the
mothers. The ultimate goal of delivery is the safety and protection of both the mother and the child.
For a time, and still to this day, women turned to hospitals to ensure that safety. However, as a new
wave of feminism has empowered mothers to take control of the natural birthing process, more and
more women are reverting back to the home birth method. Though homebirth goes smoothly for most
mothers, there is always the potential for complications that many mothers are not prepared to handle.

However, the best choice should be the one that achieves the ultimate goal of the safe delivery. The
statistics hold the records and can be paramount for a mother who wants to make the decision. The
figures indicate that birth at home is risky when compared to birth in the hospital mostly where there
are a delivery complications, and emergency services are needed. According to the Federal birth
registers, out of a thousand babies born at home, 3.9 would likely to have birth defects mostly
associated with delivery emergency and complications. On the other hand, the same statistics claim
that for the hospital based deliveries, only 1.8 of one thousand babies faced birth related defects
(Mathews, Curtin through Friday, 2015). The statists also point out that there is a high risk of
deficiency when the baby is born at home than when born in the hospital environment. The defects as
result of childbirth related complication are high in midwives attended birth than those delivery
process carried out in hospital when there is an emergency. Statisticians document 7 defects per one
thousand deliveries that have associated birth complications with deliveries attended by midwives.
According to the statistics done in the years 2016 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,
the home delivery has gained favors than hospital delivery in the recent time. This implies that as

The Genesis of Feminism in Literature
Feminism is a theory that all sexes should have political, economic, and social equality. Hawthorne
was a writer during the Romantic Era in literature; one of the many individuals fired by their ideals
sought to tell the world about them through their works (e.g. art, literature, music). Hawthorne was
raised by his spouseless mother, which probably led him to believe women could be equal to men.
Hawthorne grew up with his mother became overly protective and pushed him toward relatively
isolated pursuits (Grade Saver 1). Whilst Hawthorne s single mother life prospered, his odium for the
belief of Puritanism started when he learned his association to Judge John Hawthorne, one of the
judges who oversaw the Salem witch trails. Hawthorne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

him a feminist. Although it may appear Hawthorne favors anti feminism because his choice of setting,
it is also practical that he did this to prove Hester s strength against her community s prejudice. The
settings that are chosen by an author are for the readers to anticipate what will happen in the story and
for the reader to understand what the author believes. The story takes place in a Puritan settlement
where religion is the primary law and everyone must abide by it. The Puritans mainly believe that
there should be no woman alone and should always have a male companion no matter what. Puritan
ideals mainly deter feminist ideologies

According to Dictionary.com, the term mad can be defined in many different ways. A person who is
mad can be mentally ill or deranged, overcome by desire or eagerness, greatly provoked or irritated,
extremely foolish or unwise, or wildly excited or confused. (Dictionary.com, 2015). In Herman
Melville s book Moby Dick, Captain Ahab states, What I ve dared, I ve willed; and what I ve willed, I

then it would be easy to say yes Captain Ahab was mad. Supported by observation of crewmembers of

Moby Dick, Captain Ahab was overcome by determination and eagerness to kill the white
spermwhale, Moby Dick, who caused Captain Abab to lose his leg during their encounter. Captain
Ahab was so focused on meeting the whale again that he appeared deranged and at times foolish and
unwise. He put the lives of his crewmembers in jeopardy because of his infatuation of killing this
whale. Not having the concern of others can also be a definition of someone who is mad. Captain

DRUIDS
Who were the Druids?
The stereotypical image of a Druid is one of a thoughtful philosopher and magician, schooled in the
lore of the traditions, and in charge of the education of the chieftains as well as those who sought to
obtain knowledge considered obscure by the rest of society. They were knowers of truth, able to
manipulate that truth as well as inform others of it. Druids not only influenced society religiously, they
also influenced it socially i.e. they took on the parts of teachers, judges, magicians, craftsmen,
advisors, priests, and masters of ceremonies, and in doing so, were greatly respected in society.

Mistletoe is, however, very rarely found, and when found, it is gathered with great ceremony and

A Brief Note On Crime And Crime Rates
Crime is one of the major issues that America has been facing for over one hundred years. Although
crime has been steadily decreasing ever since the 1990 s there are still a lot of room for improvement.
With this issue bring many subsequent problems, such as incarcerated people per capita. This doesn t
only have an extreme burden on those incarcerated and their families, but also on the federal
government. This costs them billions of dollars every year to control delinquent behavior but it still
hasn t worked to its full potential. There are three topics containing four variables that must be
considered when attempting to reduce crime rates. This includes police, surveillance, and federal
assistance. The variables they produce are, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first studied found there was a strong correlation between the rate at which someone is arrested
for an offense and the rate of the same offense (Tittle and Rowe, 1974). This was mostly seen in
robberies, when a robber was arrested the rate of robberies would slightly decrease. This poses two
reason of the decrease, either the other people who frequently rob people do it less frequently because
they are frightened to also be arrested, or that the robber who was arrested was a repeat offender. This
is interesting because it doesn t have to be one or the other, the reality is that there is most likely a mix
of both happening. This effect was examined by another researcher who coined the term the tipping
effect, and understood that clearance rates only affect some crime rates and not in others depending on
the offense (Bailey n.d.). This means that the clearance of a crime, which is the closing of an open
case, either by arrest, death, etc. could not always positively impact the crime rate. This is not only a
difference in violent crimes and property crimes because there was a negative association found in
property crimes and clearance rates (Logan, 1975).
This poses four main problems, first the fact that crime rates and clearance rates directly influence
each other. This is a major road block that is preventing the causal effect of the independent variable
on the crime

Declaration Of Independence Dbq
On July 4th, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress. This
document stated the independence of the new nation, The United States of America. After the battle of
Lexington and Concord the colonists started to show their wants and needs to separate from England.
Parliament decided to pass the Stamp Act which is, ¨a taxation measure designed to raise revenues for
a standing British army in America.¨ The main statement of this Act was ¨no taxation without
representation.¨ The colonists were angry at England because they could not vote for members of
Parliament and no colonists were members of Parliament either. They thought this was very unfair
treatment and they wanted to go against it. Parliament also said that the colonies could not trade
anything with anyone but England and this fired them up even more. They wanted the freedom to
trade with who they wanted to trade with instead of only being able to trade with one country,
England. Of course when they got made it started a huge cry and that the colonists should not be taxed
unless their own representatives approved the taxes. This is when the ¨no taxation without

People all around the world are familiar with Shakespeare. His plays and sonnets are read in
classrooms of all ages around the world. But how does Shakespeare relate back to the time period he
was from? As historians and readers, we know that Shakespeare gifted us with his words, plays, and
sonnets, as well as benefited the people of his time with entertainment from plays. But, could
Shakespeare have changed history with his work? Is it possible that Shakespeare was a pivotal
member of creating the humanist idea and expanding the Renaissance? Did Shakespeare change the
way people thought about religion during this time? Is Shakespeare responsible for inspiring

Physician Assisted Suicide Is A Controversial Topic
One may have heard of suicide, but not physician assisted suicide. The two are very different in terms
of the act of taking one s own life. For instance, physician assisted suicide is done with help from
another person, usually a physician; where the doctor is willing to assist with either the means of how
to take one s own life or the actual act itself. This can either be by prescribing lethal doses of drugs to
these patients who want to take their own life or by counseling these patients on what drugs they
should take. Essentially, it is giving a painless death to someone who is suffering from an incurable
illness (MedicineNet Inc. 2015).
Physician assisted suicide is a very controversial topic. Many people feel very strongly about letting
people have free will and others feel very strongly about showing these people compassion instead of
the help of ending their life (Cable News Network (CNN) 2015). Currently the United States has three
states that legalized physician assisted suicide. These three states include Oregon, Washington, and
Vermont (Cable News Network (CNN) 2015). All three of these states allow a competent adult who
has a terminal illness to choose to end their life with the help of a physician (Death with Dignirty
National Center 2015). The people who qualify for this must have at least six months or less to live

An experiment with hissing cockroaches that has been done is Does temperature affect the growth rate
of young Madagascar hissing cockroaches? They had two sections with ten young roaches in each
one. They were trying to learn if different temperatures slow or speed up the growth rate of the
roaches. They concluded that temperature did affect the growth rate. The roaches in the warmer
section had a higher metabolism. Temperature/ Development Experiment Another interesting
experiment is observing how Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches react to pesticide. They had a box of
sand that had one half sprayed with pesticide. They put four roaches in the box. The Hissing
Cockroaches were walking on the side with pesticide as well as the side without pesticide. Then, they
appeared dead for two days. On the third day of appearing dead the roaches were sprayed with water.
After that, the roaches seemed fine. They were moving around the tank, eating, and drinking. They

Compare And Contrast The American Industrial System...
With the internal improvements spreading throughout early America during the 1830 and 1840s,
science and organized experimentation became more important than ever. As a result of the
transportation revolution, America started undergoing revolutionary changes in its industrial system.
Manufacturers moved from being ran by small families to large business ran as the costs and
complexities increased. Additionally, in the 1840s, laborers started striking for better working
conditions and shorter workdays. With the rapidly growing industrialization, we start seeing a greater
need in the improvement of technology throughout America. Technologies such as the Francis
Turbine, which increased the efficiency of water power, are needed to power the larger manufactures
that continue to succeed. Furthermore, we see the ideology of Manifest Destiny play a role by creating
heavier need for a means of transportation, as well as that for a means of communication. The
circumstances leading up to and during the 1830 and 1840s create a larger demand for technological
innovations than ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The improvements such as the water turbines and many of the railroads spreading throughout the
countryside were created as a direct result of the need of these manufactures. The turbines and mills
allowed for them to run more efficiently or produce a wider variety of goods, while the railroads
increased the capability of importing goods and exporting produce. We see a direction correlation
between the manufacture s success and the improvement of technology and internal improvement. The
Boston Association recognized this connection and acted accordingly, in some cases even funding
additional railroads. The overall success of manufacturing in early America drives a key part of the
system by a practical investigation of the most current technological

Why Dogs Are Better Pets Than Cats
Why Dogs are The Best I believe Dogs are better pets than cats. I have owned three dogs and many of
my relatives own dogs. Although dogs take more time and money, they are overall still better pets.
More United States households own a dog, than cats. Cats cough up fur balls. Dogs are good listeners
and are fun to play with. Just think about it with a dog you don t have deal with a litter box. Dogs are
really good listeners, you can tell your dog a secret and they won t tell anyone else. They are also good
companions, they are good for someone who lives by themselves. Dogs can help firemen, police, FBI,

Risks Associated With The Outsourcing Of It Functions
An analysis of the outcomes of the outsourcing of IT functions reveals that there are several
challenges facing organizations who are contemplating or have already outsourced IT business
functions.
Through my research on the topic of IT outsourcing I have determined that there are many different
types of risks associated with the outsourcing of IT functions to a third party company that can equal
or exceed the benefits if certain considerations are not taken into account. Risks of outsourcing IT
functions can include strategy risks, selection risks, implementation risks and management risks. The
outsourcing of IT functions to a 3rd party can be beneficial to a company as it allows that company a
means to reduce expenses, focus on its core competencies and free up resources to drive business
growth. But ultimately, if the who, what, when, where, why and how are not determined up front and
written into a flexible contractual agreement, and the relationship between both parties is not a
partnership the venture is destine to fail. Let s examine in depth the various types of risks associated
with the outsourcing of IT functions to a 3rd party vendor.
Strategy Risks One of the biggest strategy risks associated with outsourcing is determining the proper
scope of the IT business processes which should be outsourced. Organizations should look to
outsource non cost effective and undesirable business functions but need to make sure that the
function which is being outsourced is not

Zoos Literature Review
Are the enclosures in zoos safe and beneficial for the animals? Both authors have different opinions
when it comes to zoo enclosure, but Benbow focuses on how the enclosures have improved over the
years, where Fraser focuses on how the improved enclosures are still not quite safe enough for the
animals. This helped me to understand that although the enclosures have improved, they still need
some work.
In an article by S.M.P. Benbow called Zoos: Public Places to View Private Lives, she discusses how
zoo enclosures have improved over time. She goes into detail about how the enclosures started as
something that was supposed to be exactly like there habitat, and as time goes on it has gotten more
real. Benbow also discusses the different technological advances in the enclosures, and how they are a
space that represents a different place (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). S.M.P. Benbow worked in the
Department Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba, and is now the Associate
Dean at the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. This particular article
was part of her Peer Reviewed works. The motivation behind this work and many others is her love of
the environment. This article is a peer reviewed article, so the structure and language is professional
and scholarly. This article puts a lot of emphasis on zoos being developed to be like their natural
habitats. The majority of the article gives detail on the development of zoos over the years. The author
takes time to explain everything, and backs up all evidence with quotes and information from other
sources. Benbow seems incredibly knowledgeable on Zoos and the environment. She also leaves out
her opinion most of the time and give mostly facts, but she seems to think the advancements made
have helped improve enclosures. This author makes the idea of zoos seem less bad by explaining how
the enclosures have improved tremendously (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23).
In an article written by Stephen Fraser called Safe Havens, he discusses how enclosures are still not
safe enough. Fraser starts off with a story of a tiger who jumped over and attacked three men. They
found out that the reason the tiger attacked was because the men were taunting the

The Gillette s Vice Of The Disposable Crown Cork Bottle Cap
King Camp Gillette was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1855. At the early age of 16 he became a
traveling salesman where he met William Painter, the inventor of the disposable Crown Cork bottle
cap. This friendship ignited Gillette s passion for invention and entrepreneurship. In 1895 he had an
idea of a disposable razor blade. The problem was how to make the blades thin enough and at a price
low enough to be profitable. Then in 1901 Gillette met an MIT graduate by the name of William
Nickerson and the idea and dream became a reality. The Gillette Safety Razor Company began making
safety razors and blades.
The company offered a new product, safety razors and blades, a product of convenience at a
reasonable price. Gillette had a few lean years to establish a customer base. To attract new customers
Gillette tried advertising by putting his face stamped on the thin razor blades, and then gave away the
razor as a free gift. The razor was useless without the blades. The marketing gimmick of FREE
worked! Gillette gave free razors that then created a demand for the blades. Gillette sold razors in bulk
at discounted prices to banks so they could use them as give away when you opened an account, the
Shave and Save campaigns were huge success. Gillette took it even further when he then sold to the
Wrigley s gum company; packets of coffee, tea, spices, and marshmallows. Gillette sold millions of
razors at steep discount to the Army hoping the habits soldiers developed at war

Common Prenatal Congenital Heart Disease Essay
Tetrology of Fallot(TOF) is the most common prenatal congenital cyanotic heart disease accounts for
about 1/3600 live births and about 7% to 10% of of all congenital heart disease and is the most
common cause of cyanosis in the neonatal period1 , 2. Typical Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) may be
missed in Four chamber view. An abnormal Four chamber view is rarely seen in typical TOF cases . In
the typical form of TOF the fetal echocardiography is often characterized by a normal four chamber
view, a subaortic Ventricular septal defect (VSD), Dilated over riding of aorta seen in a LVOT view,
Pulmonary stenosis and an increased Aorta/Pulmonary artery ratio, minimal antegrade flow in the
main pulmonary artery and the aortic flow originated from right and left ventricle. All pregnant
women with low risk factors , suspected fetal cardiac anomalies and with increased risk factors should
be analyzed by extended fetal echo during the level 2 scan (18 22 weeks scan ). It is also important to
identify the side of the aortic arch, which is quite easier in the prenatal period in three vessel view .
This will be useful if surgery is planned postnatally. Extracardiac abnormalities, such as midline
defects, central nervous system and renal abnormalities may be found in fetuses with TOF. These
extracardiac defects are associated with chromosomal abnormalities. When TOF is diagnosed, serial
follow up scans at 5 6 weeks intervals are adviced to know about the growth of the

Social Comparison Theory
The social comparison theory offers some level of explanation for how media images actually come to
impact the way women feel about their bodies. It examines how individuals evaluate themselves in
relation to peers, groups, and/or social categories (Milkie, 1999). The main argument is that people
compare themselves on many different dimensions with other individuals who are similar to them.
Depending on the target of comparison, a person will usually judge themselves as being either or
better or worse on some dimension. An upward comparison occurs when an individual compares
himself or herself to someone who fares better than they do on a particular construct. In contrast,
downward comparisons involve a person comparing himself or herself to ... Show more content on

Television, advertisements, magazines, and other forms of popular media provide a plethora of
references for upward social comparison. Images in the media generally project a standard to which
women are expected to aspire, yet that standard is almost completely impossible for most women to
achieve (Schooler et al., 2004; Thompson Coovert, 1999). Women almost always fall short of
standards that are expected of them regarding physical appearance. Particularly for women, it is
difficult to go through a day without viewing images that send the message, you re not good enough.
The pervasiveness of the media makes it very challenging for most women to avoid evaluating
themselves against the sociocultural standard of beauty (Milkie, 1999). Most companies that target
women in the media actually attempt to foster social comparison with idealized images, in order to
motivate women to buy products that will bring them closer to the ideal (e.g. diet products, makeup,
hair products). If women see a discrepancy between themselves and the images they view in
advertisements (which the almost definitely will), they will be more inclined to buy the products that
are advertised (Thompson Coovert,

Persuasive Essay About Tattoos
As anyone who has ever made the leap to get a tattoo knows, it is an extremely involved process that
cannot be taken lightly. The depictions of the tattooing process in the media are skewed: that of
walking into a studio at two in the morning while intoxicated to get a petite tattoo of a butterfly and
walking out half an hour later with no issues. More realistically, the tattooing process is an immensely
serious one with respect to artistic integrity and medical safety. If upon leaving the tattoo studio, you
don t reek of Green Soap, chances are, you had a subpar experience. The initial step in getting a tattoo
is one that most potential clients have trouble with, deciding on a design! Most artists will have a
portfolio of premade designs to choose from, but the quintessence of getting a tattoo is approaching an
artist with a completely unique and personal concept. This step cannot be taken lightly, as one must
take into consideration the following when thinking about their design: placement, size, budget, color,
durability, pain, and feasibility. It s improbable to expect an artist to be able to recreate a photo
realistic image in a five inch tattoo in the ditch of a client s knee, for example. When thinking of a
design, consider that it must be large enough to convey the image accurately with enough black
outlining to ensure the color won t leak or fade into the skin over time while not simultaneously be too
large as to break the bank or require copious sessions of

Hospital Acquired Infections Essay
Healthcare acquired/associated infections (HAIs) are caused by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens.
These are infections we can get while we are receiving medical treatment in a healthcare facility.
These infections can be serious, but are also very preventable. The most common HAIs are central line
associated bloodstream infections, nosocomial pneumonia, catheter associated urinary tract infections,
and surgical site infections. The most frequent mode of transmission of hospital acquired infections is
by direct contact. These infections are very serious and can possibly lead to death, so prevention of

Nosocomial pneumonia is a lung infection that can occur in patients 48 72 hours after being admitted
to a healthcare facility. This type of pneumonia occurs mostly in patients that are on a ventilator, a
machine that helps them to breathe, or patients who are critically ill and have a compromised immune
system. Hospital acquired pneumonia can also be spread by healthcare workers, who can pass germs
from their hands or clothes from person to person (direct contact) or by droplets (coughing, sneezing,
etc.). Some ways to prevent this type of infection from happening is by placing the patient in a semi
upright or upright positioning [that may] reduce the risk of aspiration and pneumonia and noninvasive
ventilation using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (Sethi, 2017). Generally, the main
pathogens that cause this infection are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus species,
Haemophilus influenzae, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Proteus species,
Serratia marcescens and methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (Rotstein et al., 2008).
Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a very important concern. Catheter associated urinary tract infections,
also known as CAUTI, are the most common type of HAI with approximately 75% [being] associated
with a urinary catheter ( Catheter associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), 2017). A urinary
catheter is a tube that is inserted into

Essay on Make-up of Life-giving Cells
What is a cell? A cell is the structural, functional and biological unit of all organisms (biology

synergy to perform the bodily functions God has given man to maintain homeostasis. The cells that
work in harmony consist of an array of cells such as, epidermal, nerve, or muscle. As these various
cells work together they form a biological machine to give life. Before the discovery the cell, many
had their theory of what composed life. Greek philosophers believed that everything consisted of

The nucleolus is where the ribosomes or protein factories are manufactured. From its production it is
exported through the nuclear pores and into the cytoplasm to begin its protein manufacturing. The
second major part of the eukaryotic cell is the cytoplasm. This serves as the cell s fluid medium or
matrix. This jellylike fluid allows the organelles or little organs to float within it. Cytoplasm also
contains many dissolved chemicals. The cytoplasm and organelles use the properties within it to create
chemical reactions to produce energy as well as recycling. To give added structure to the cell, the
cytoplasm contains a cytoskeleton to prevent being squashed. The cytoskeleton is composed of large,
hollow rods called microtubules. This gives rigidity like a buildings steel beams. These beams also
hold the organelles in place. The hollow rods act as highways for transporting goods around the cell.
The proteins from the ribosomes or protein factories can be packaged into a special container where
they are shipped by the microtubules. At the center of the microtubules is the centrosome. This
structure is where the microtubules branch off, which is near the middle of the cell. The centrosome is
called the organizing center because it can break down the microtubules and allow the organelles to
move around. At the center of the centrosome is where the commands are made called the centrioles, a

Academic Dishonesty At Todays Education System
Academic Dishonesty in Todays Education System
One of the greatest concerns in schools is academic dishonesty. Over time cheating has increased
drastically for many reasons. As a result of this, institutions have had to enforce strict rules and create
honor codes to protect the integrity of their students. Although academic dishonesty has several
negative effects, students continue to cheat for reasons such as: unclear guidelines, pressure, being
overworked, and lack of effort.
Academic dishonesty takes numerous forms. It can vary from plagiarism to professional misconduct.
Due to this, the definition of what academic dishonesty is has become blurred for not only students,
but teachers as well. More often than not, students are not aware that what they are doing qualifies as
cheating. Colleges and universities do a poor job of educating their students and instructors on what
qualifies as cheating. Although most schools have honor codes in place to protect their students
integrity, the guidelines can lack clear boundaries and consistency. These guidelines can also lack how
instructors are to enforce these rules, leaving them without a clear process to follow. This can lead to
many accidental violations of the honor codes. It is important institutions regularly reinforce the
principles of academic dishonesty, so that students are aware and can avoid such situations. This cause
is less apparent than others, but transpires frequently in schools everywhere. Grades rather than

Jean-Jacques Rousseau s The Mission
The Mission, a film set in 1507, reflects on a Jesuit mission settlement, torn apart by Spanish and
Portuguese government. With the papacy caught in the midst of this turmoil, conflicting ideas of
injustice and moral sense drive the message of the film. In connection to the Enlightenment, an era of
new philosophical ideas from the 1400s up until the 1600s, Jean Jacques Rousseau s ideas of
individuality, human nature and corruption are best represented through the films.
As a philosopher in France, Rousseau focused heavily on human nature and what led human beings to
change. From innocence to malice, Rousseau believed people became corrupted by society; their
impure actions resulted from societal expectations. In one of his works, Rousseau ... Show more

appearance, humor without virtue, reason without wisdom, and pleasure without happiness. () To him,
government expected everyone to present themselves as copies, with little room for originality and
individuality. Those in positions of power had crooked values, only wanting to benefit themselves.
Because the government was power hungry and constantly feening for more land and power, they held
too much control. In the film, as the Cardinal visits the missions, he sees their beauty and falls in love
with their complexity and peaceful structure. Even though he sees the good in the missions and

Tensions between the North and South had grown steadily since the anti slavery movement in 1830.
Several compromises between the North and South regarding slavery had been passed such as the

Lincoln in 1861 proved to be the boiling point for the South, and secession followed. This eventually
sparked the civil war; which was viewed differently by the North and the South. The Northern goal

The Chrysalids is a Dark Book by John Wyndham
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is a dark book where the plot, characters and setting are all
influenced by death. The word Chrysalid is a scientific term which refers to the larva that most insects
pass through before becoming adults. John Wyndham metaphorically compares this definition to the
story by comparing this process to humans. He is saying that the state humans were in before
Tribulation was a baby state and now they are maturing into adults. It does not come at an easy price;
sacrifice and death affect the process of change. The influence of prejudice and bigotry throughout
The Chrysalids leads to death in the lives of Sophie Wender, Aunt Harriet and Joseph Strorm. Firstly,
resulting from prejudice and bigotry Sophie is killed tragically. Since Sophie was born with a mutation

China s Transition Economy Essay examples
China s transition from a planned economy to a market economy began at the end of 1978. When

prices of goods or monopolises international trade. It is somewhere in between.
Reform measures:
1) The introduction of enterprise taxation.
2) The new wage system which linked with the productivity of workers (this would give workers

Trade was monopolised by centrally controlled Foreign Trade Corporations, under the control of the
central Government ministries. Other trade was not permitted.
Also, exports had state controlled prices set by the Foreign Trade Corporations under the foreign trade
plan. Similarly, imports were sold to domestic firms and consumers at state controlled prices.
Fortunately, the trade regime has been significantly liberalised. China s Open Door policy has
dramatically reversed the self sufficient position of pre 1978, welcoming foreign investment and trade.
Increasingly, China s imports and exports are being determined by market forces. The ratio of imports
and exports to Gross Domestic Product is 42:100 and China is now the 10th largest trading nation.
Formal trade planning has been abolished, but a number of central foreign trade corporations and large
state owned enterprises have been given selective monopoly powers to export and import strategic
commodities (important resources that China had to ensure a steady supply of). This process has been
termed as canalisation by the World Bank (1994).
These commodities, shown in the table, represented approximately 4.6% of China s exports and
19.4% of imports in

In hopes of getting their support on a plan for colonization in Central America, Lincoln hosted a delegation for freed slaves at the White House. Given the differences between the two races and the hostile attitudes of whites toward blacks. He argued that it would be better for us both, therefore, to be separated. Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Icmart ) INTRODUCTION 1.0 BACKGROUND The world has witnessed a marked increase in patients presenting to infertility clinics in the past three decades.1 Nigeria lies within the infertility belt where prevalence of infertility is at the highest.2 Infertility has been found to be the leading reason for gynaecological consultations (accounting for about 60%) with a prevalence of about 15% in Nigeria.3 According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART), infertility is defined clinically as a disease of the reproductive system characterized by a failure to achieve successful pregnancy after twelve months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.4 Reproduction either in vivo or in vitro is dependent on the presence of viable gametes (sperm and ovum), a successful sperm to ovum interaction; fertilization and an effective implantation of the fertilized ovum onto the endometrial wall of the uterus.3 In a study carried out in south western Nigeria, the common causes of infertility were: tubal factor (39.5%), uterine factor (30%), and ovarian factor (13%).5 Other causes included cervical factor (3%), pelvic inflammatory disease PID (5.5%), and endometriosis (2.5%).5 In vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment offers the highest pregnancy rate irrespective of the cause of infertility.6 The first successful IVF procedure was documented by Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe in 1978, where ova and sperm were ... • 6. Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term... Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s. Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals (Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties (lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore, bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994; Service and Martin, 1997). He was born to a humble blacksmith, who had high aspirations for his son, and sent him off to Yale, where he studied law. He opened his own practice and was very successful. Not satisfied, he entered into the world of politics, working his way up the ladder, eventually becoming a delegate to the first and second Continental Congresses, drawing the attention of leaders. He was then sent to France as the American representative of the colonies, later joined by Benjamin Franklin and Arthur Lee. He was described as ambitious and someone to be watched, even accused of using his position in government for personal profit. Further controversy forced him out of France, America, and England, ending up in Flanders. He lived there until the controversy died down some and then moved to England, where he lived in obscurity, resorting to drinking, and living in the house of a prostitute. The first studied found there was a strong correlation between the rate at which someone is arrested for an offense and the rate of the same offense (Tittle and Rowe, 1974). This was mostly seen in robberies, when a robber was arrested the rate of robberies would slightly decrease. This poses two reason of the decrease, either the other people who frequently rob people do it less frequently because they are frightened to also be arrested, or that the robber who was arrested was a repeat offender. This is interesting because it doesn t have to be one or the other, the reality is that there is most likely a mix of both happening. This effect was examined by another researcher who coined the term the tipping effect, and understood that clearance rates only affect some crime rates and not in others depending on the offense (Bailey n.d.). This means that the clearance of a crime, which is the closing of an open case, either by arrest, death, etc. could not always positively impact the crime rate. This is not only a difference in violent crimes and property crimes because there was a negative association found in property crimes and clearance rates (Logan, 1975). This poses four main problems, first the fact that crime rates and clearance rates directly influence each other. This is a major road block that is preventing the causal effect of the independent variable on the crime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both authors have different opinions when it comes to zoo enclosure, but Benbow focuses on how the enclosures have improved over the years, where Fraser focuses on how the improved enclosures are still not quite safe enough for the animals. This helped me to understand that although the enclosures have improved, they still need some work. In an article by S.M.P. Benbow called Zoos: Public Places to View Private Lives, she discusses how zoo enclosures have improved over time. She goes into detail about how the enclosures started as something that was supposed to be exactly like there habitat, and as time goes on it has gotten more real. Benbow also discusses the different technological advances in the enclosures, and how they are a space that represents a different place (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). S.M.P. Benbow worked in the Department Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba, and is now the Associate Dean at the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. This particular article was part of her Peer Reviewed works. The motivation behind this work and many others is her love of the environment. This article is a peer reviewed article, so the structure and language is professional and scholarly. This article puts a lot of emphasis on zoos being developed to be like their natural habitats. The majority of the article gives detail on the development of zoos over the years. The author takes time to explain everything, and backs up all evidence with quotes and information from other sources. Benbow seems incredibly knowledgeable on Zoos and the environment. This author makes the idea of zoos seem less bad by explaining how the enclosures have improved tremendously (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). • 26. The Gillette s Vice Of The Disposable Crown Cork Bottle Cap King Camp Gillette was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1855. At the early age of 16 he became a traveling salesman where he met William Painter, the inventor of the disposable Crown Cork bottle cap. This friendship ignited Gillette s passion for invention and entrepreneurship. In 1895 he had an idea of a disposable razor blade. The problem was how to make the blades thin enough and at a price low enough to be profitable. Then in 1901 Gillette met an MIT graduate by the name of William Nickerson and the idea and dream became a reality. The Gillette Safety Razor Company began making safety razors and blades. The company offered a new product, safety razors and blades, a product of convenience at a reasonable price. Gillette had a few lean years to establish a customer base. To attract new customers Gillette tried advertising by putting his face stamped on the thin razor blades, and then gave away the razor as a free gift. The razor was useless without the blades. The marketing gimmick of FREE worked! Gillette gave free razors that then created a demand for the blades. Gillette sold razors in bulk at discounted prices to banks so they could use them as give away when you opened an account, the Shave and Save campaigns were huge success. Gillette took it even further when he then sold to the Wrigley s gum company; packets of coffee, tea, spices, and marshmallows. • 28. Common Prenatal Congenital Heart Disease Essay Tetrology of Fallot(TOF) is the most common prenatal congenital cyanotic heart disease accounts for about 1/3600 live births and about 7% to 10% of of all congenital heart disease and is the most common cause of cyanosis in the neonatal period1 , 2. Typical Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) may be missed in Four chamber view. An abnormal Four chamber view is rarely seen in typical TOF cases . In the typical form of TOF the fetal echocardiography is often characterized by a normal four chamber view, a subaortic Ventricular septal defect (VSD), Dilated over riding of aorta seen in a LVOT view, Pulmonary stenosis and an increased Aorta/Pulmonary artery ratio, minimal antegrade flow in the main pulmonary artery and the aortic flow originated from right and left ventricle. All pregnant women with low risk factors , suspected fetal cardiac anomalies and with increased risk factors should be analyzed by extended fetal echo during the level 2 scan (18 22 weeks scan ). It is also important to identify the side of the aortic arch, which is quite easier in the prenatal period in three vessel view . This will be useful if surgery is planned postnatally. Extracardiac abnormalities, such as midline defects, central nervous system and renal abnormalities may be found in fetuses with TOF. These extracardiac defects are associated with chromosomal abnormalities. When TOF is diagnosed, serial follow up scans at 5 6 weeks intervals are adviced to know about the growth of the ... • 29. Social Comparison Theory The social comparison theory offers some level of explanation for how media images actually come to impact the way women feel about their bodies. It examines how individuals evaluate themselves in relation to peers, groups, and/or social categories (Milkie, 1999). The main argument is that people compare themselves on many different dimensions with other individuals who are similar to them. Depending on the target of comparison, a person will usually judge themselves as being either or better or worse on some dimension. An upward comparison occurs when an individual compares himself or herself to someone who fares better than they do on a particular construct. In contrast, downward comparisons involve a person comparing himself or herself to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Television, advertisements, magazines, and other forms of popular media provide a plethora of references for upward social comparison. Images in the media generally project a standard to which women are expected to aspire, yet that standard is almost completely impossible for most women to achieve (Schooler et al., 2004; Thompson Coovert, 1999). Women almost always fall short of standards that are expected of them regarding physical appearance. Particularly for women, it is difficult to go through a day without viewing images that send the message, you re not good enough. The pervasiveness of the media makes it very challenging for most women to avoid evaluating themselves against the sociocultural standard of beauty (Milkie, 1999). Most companies that target women in the media actually attempt to foster social comparison with idealized images, in order to motivate women to buy products that will bring them closer to the ideal (e.g. diet products, makeup, hair products). If women see a discrepancy between themselves and the images they view in advertisements (which the almost definitely will), they will be more inclined to buy the products that are advertised (Thompson Coovert, ... • 30. Persuasive Essay About Tattoos As anyone who has ever made the leap to get a tattoo knows, it is an extremely involved process that cannot be taken lightly. The depictions of the tattooing process in the media are skewed: that of walking into a studio at two in the morning while intoxicated to get a petite tattoo of a butterfly and walking out half an hour later with no issues. More realistically, the tattooing process is an immensely serious one with respect to artistic integrity and medical safety. If upon leaving the tattoo studio, you don t reek of Green Soap, chances are, you had a subpar experience. The initial step in getting a tattoo is one that most potential clients have trouble with, deciding on a design! Most artists will have a portfolio of premade designs to choose from, but the quintessence of getting a tattoo is approaching an artist with a completely unique and personal concept. This step cannot be taken lightly, as one must take into consideration the following when thinking about their design: placement, size, budget, color, durability, pain, and feasibility. It s improbable to expect an artist to be able to recreate a photo realistic image in a five inch tattoo in the ditch of a client s knee, for example. When thinking of a design, consider that it must be large enough to convey the image accurately with enough black outlining to ensure the color won t leak or fade into the skin over time while not simultaneously be too large as to break the bank or require copious sessions of ... Nosocomial pneumonia is a lung infection that can occur in patients 48 72 hours after being admitted to a healthcare facility. This type of pneumonia occurs mostly in patients that are on a ventilator, a machine that helps them to breathe, or patients who are critically ill and have a compromised immune system. Hospital acquired pneumonia can also be spread by healthcare workers, who can pass germs from their hands or clothes from person to person (direct contact) or by droplets (coughing, sneezing, etc.). Some ways to prevent this type of infection from happening is by placing the patient in a semi upright or upright positioning [that may] reduce the risk of aspiration and pneumonia and noninvasive ventilation using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (Sethi, 2017). Generally, the main pathogens that cause this infection are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus species, Haemophilus influenzae, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Proteus species, Serratia marcescens and methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (Rotstein et al., 2008). Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a very important concern. The millions of cells that compose the body give life. These cells work together in synergy to perform the bodily functions God has given man to maintain homeostasis. The cells that work in harmony consist of an array of cells such as, epidermal, nerve, or muscle. As these various cells work together they form a biological machine to give life. The cytoplasm and organelles use the properties within it to create chemical reactions to produce energy as well as recycling. • 37. Academic Dishonesty At Todays Education System Academic Dishonesty in Todays Education System One of the greatest concerns in schools is academic dishonesty. Over time cheating has increased drastically for many reasons. As a result of this, institutions have had to enforce strict rules and create honor codes to protect the integrity of their students. Although academic dishonesty has several negative effects, students continue to cheat for reasons such as: unclear guidelines, pressure, being overworked, and lack of effort. Academic dishonesty takes numerous forms. It can vary from plagiarism to professional misconduct. Due to this, the definition of what academic dishonesty is has become blurred for not only students, but teachers as well. More often than not, students are not aware that what they are doing qualifies as cheating. Colleges and universities do a poor job of educating their students and instructors on what qualifies as cheating. Although most schools have honor codes in place to protect their students integrity, the guidelines can lack clear boundaries and consistency. These guidelines can also lack how instructors are to enforce these rules, leaving them without a clear process to follow. This can lead to many accidental violations of the honor codes. It is important institutions regularly reinforce the principles of academic dishonesty, so that students are aware and can avoid such situations. This cause is less apparent than others, but transpires frequently in schools everywhere. Grades rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The word Chrysalid is a scientific term which refers to the larva that most insects pass through before becoming adults. He is saying that the state humans were in before Tribulation was a baby state and now they are maturing into adults. It does not come at an easy price; sacrifice and death affect the process of change.
