Reasons For Imperialism
According to the textbook, World History: Modern Times by Glencoe. Imperialism is said to be
extension of a nations power over other lands (page 430). The power included control of politics,
economy, and culture life of other countries. Imperialism was global and was controlled by France,
Britian, and the United States. Over time other countries became a part of imperialistic rule. There
are four forms of imperial rule that included: colonies, protectorates, spheres of influence, and
economic imperialism. Colonies were in categories by two different kinds; direct rule and indirect
rule. Direct rule meant that officials from France were sent to be in charge of the colonies. Indirect
rule meant that rulers from that area were in charge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Britan saw India as a great source of raw materials because of their canal that made
transporting materials easy and made trade of textiles inexpensive. Being able to get raw
materials and cheap labor from countries who were poor became the drive for imperialism.
Another motivation for imperialism was an effort for countries in power to gain more power
over other European countries. They also wanted to gain more land and they did not stop at
using their military force to get what they wanted! Also imperialism was motivated by moral
benefits. The ruling countries believed they were the superior race because they were white and
everyone else was considered primitive . For example, in the 1850 s the British mistreated Indian
soldiers and this led to a war. The ruling countries also considered it their job to civilize people in
other parts of the world. An example can be seen in the fact that many Indians were impressed by
the British and learned English and actually condemned some tradtions held by the Indians like child

Driving While on The Phone Essay
As technology advances, people become notorious for using their electronics in inappropriate
situations. Teenagers in present day commonly text at the dinner table, while crossing a street, and
even while driving. Not only do teenagers text, their parents do, as well. Texting is a frequent fad
among the young adults, it also a convenient method for parents to keep in contact with their
children. People nowadays have to be in contact with friends and family at every moment of the
day especially while driving it is the equivalent of driving under the influence, using hand held
devices (like Bluetooth) will decrease the number of accidents caused by phones, and studies show
texting reduces a persons reaction time. Recent studies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One simulation showed talking on a cell phone is much more dangerous than talking to a
passenger; the study concluded this because a passenger can take an active role in making the
driver attentive of traffic and of course facilitate with directions. Recently, in Columbus, Ohio, a
news report reported that the State Highway Patrol logged fifty more fatalities than in the same
period for the prior year. The Highway Patrol noted that nineteen fatalities were the result of
distracted driving. The problems of distracted driving exist throughout the United States. For
example, this year Wisconsin enacted a law prohibiting texting while driving due to the danger of
distracted driving. In New York, students at the State University of New York Fredonia (SUNY)
sponsored a texting awareness week to make college students more aware of the risks of distracted
driving. The dangers of distracted driving have led the United States Department of Transportation
to make a major initiative to develop solutions to end distracted driving. The impact of distracted
driving has led President Obama to declare December, 2010 as National Impaired Driving
Prevention Month. Many states have addressed the problem by prohibiting texting while driving.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, thirty states, the District of Colombia and
Guam ban texting while driving. However, the bill to ratify such a ban failed in the Arizona

Fatty Acid Composition Of Adipose Tissue And Colorectal...
Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue and colorectal cancer: a case control study
Colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common cancers worldwide that usually leads to
the death of the patient. Studies have proved that lifestyle factors great influence the development
and spread of cancer. Modifying the lifestyle can reduce the risk of getting colorectal cancer by
70%. It is noted that more consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of developing
colorectal cancer. However, high intake of dietary fibers decreases it. On the contrary
epidemiologic studies that connect the fat intake with colorectal cancer are varying and unreliable.
The concentrations of fatty acids in human serum and in the membranes of red blood cells depict
the intake of previous days or weeks. Conversely, the fatty acid concentration in the adipose tissue
truly show the habitual dietary intake in the previous two to three years. Hence, various studies that
aim to explore the correlation between the concentration of fatty acids and cancer risk use adipose
tissue in this request.
The case study discussed in this paper is conducted in Five University hospitals located in
Northeastern France (Cottet and others 2015). Subcutaneous adipose tissue samples were acquired
from the surgery departments through surgeons. The samples belonged to the patients who were
admitted for elective abdominal surgery. These patients were recently diagnosed of primary
colorectal cancer.

Theme Of Gender In Pride And Prejudice And Hard Times
This paper seeks to examine the variations in the construction and depiction of the female
characters in the novels, Pride and Prejudice and Hard Times, written by Jane Austen and Charles
Dickens respectively. Keeping in mind the specific historical circumstances, social positions and
gender identities of the authors, this paper will explore the various factors that determine the
portrayal of women and the roles that they play in the family and the larger society in the
aforementioned novels. It will also analyze the female characters of these novels to further
understand the influence of such socio economic factors on the representation of women by two of
the greatest writers of 19th century England. Published first in 1813, Pride and... Show more content

Class distinctions and gender roles in the Regency and Victorian eras were centered on a very
rigid social structure. This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an
esteemed Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus
of her novels to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely
selective world that was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period,
including that of Austen, were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that
they live in the shadow of men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered
by means of the money that they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral
funds. The social structure was hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic
upper classes and middle classes, ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely
mingled with each other. Austen intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels
that focus on mannerisms, social communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay
Gender and Genre, describes Austen s style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity,
romantic desire and gender relations as shaped by the social context. (pg

My Most Unforgettable Week Of My Life
POW! I dive left to go for the save. The game had just ended and we were now in the penalty
shootout. I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK shootout. Back in March,
my parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for
the soccer camp, at first I did not want to go but since the camp was full and there were no other
tickets I had to go so I did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I
realized that it would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go
to it this time. There were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent forgot to sign
their kid into the camp. This was my most unforgettable week of my life because this was just
such a good camp, plus I got one of my highlights of my goalie career to me. The camp that I
went to was at Dail soccer/track complex at NC State University. It had a baseball field right
next to it with a camp going on for softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the
street, yet there is a tunnel underneath the street that we took. For the games for overtime it did
not work the same as normal we went straight to the penalty shootout, instead of having two
overtime periods. This week happened to me because my parents were able to sign me up for
the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year. They had won a ticket into the
camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at the web page for it to see what it was about
and thought I would enjoy it, so I went to it. On the first day of camp we went and filled
everything out so I could have fun and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to the
camp to have fun I did not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp.
After that, I went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the second
goalie group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of people that have some
problems with ourselves. Most of the people in our group would talk when our coach talked or
wanted them to pay attention. Then there were the other people, like me, in the group who wanted
to get as far as possible in training and wanted to

Abstract: Steganography is a kind of secret communication method used to hide secret data in
some digital media such as images, audio etc. Cryptography and watermarking are other similar
techniques. Data is secured using these methods, but the fact that data is present somewhere gives
us a specific target, whereas sole purpose of steganography is that none must know there is some
hidden data in the file. So, steganography easily has upper hand over cryptography and
watermarking. Steganography can use almost all kinds of media present over internet to transmit
secret data. In this paper, we review some audio steganography techniques, their algorithms and
some challenges faced in their design and implementation. We will look in detail some modified
techniques for audio steganography. Also, we look at the problems faced with using mp3files as
cover media.
Introduction
Steganography is the science of hiding information so that it remains undetected except by its
intended receiver. Need of steganography arises when one needs to communicate privately and he
cannot risk to arouse the suspicion by sending encrypted message in plain sight.

The Management Of The Hospitality Field
As future managers in the hospitality field we must be aware of what all we are responsible for
when it comes to our guests. Lawsuits are becoming ever so common, and we must know what
we are liable for so that we may prevent situations before they arise. Knowing the local laws is
crucial to running an efficient business and keeping yourself and your employees up to date on
these laws will save you in the long run. The proper training should be given to both managers and
staff about procedures and precautions that need to be taken in various situations. Taking the time
with this and keeping record of training can prevent multi million dollar lawsuits or other
unnecessary court appearances. I took HA315W this past fall with Dr. Hill,... Show more content on

Offshore Oi Drilling Causes Environmental Damage Essay
Oil drilling is the process of perforating oil from the earth s surface. This process can be
dangerous. The drilling process can be harmful to nearby animal life. The process used to locate
oil waves can be harmful to animal life. When the oil ascends, it brings with it a number of deadly
chemicals. The chemicals released can consist of mercury and arsenic. Other substances such as
lead have been known to ascend with the oil (Horton, Jennifer, 1).
An oil spill is the process by which oil is mistakenly dispensed. The danger and damage an oil

The animal death toll was far greater than that of the human (Clean Energy, 1). Over four thousand
animals died, and more were injured as a result of the British Petroleum oil spill (Clean Energy, 1).
Dolphins were enveloped in the oil (Clean Energy, 1). Four hundred and six dolphins lost their
lives during the eighty seven day plague (Clean Energy, 1). The bird population of the Gulf
decreased as well (Clean Energy, 1). Some of the birds were cloaked with oil (Clean Energy, 1).
Thousands of dead and suffering birds were seen floating in the black pools of oil (Clean

(Clean Energy, 1). However birds and dolphins were not the only victims (Clean Energy, 1). The
British Petroleum oil spill destroyed a portion of the sea turtle population found in the Gulf of

the spill (Clean Energy, 1). A grand total of six hundred and nine sea turtles died as a result of the
spill (Clean Energy, 1). These are only the documented deaths (Clean Energy, 1). The true animal
death toll is estimated to be fifty times the number of deceased carcasses that were found floating,
or washed up on the shore (Clean Energy, 1).

Compare And Contrast Phaaethus And Icarus
The two myths Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus describe two foolishly ambitous boys. Their
Characteristics are small minded, for what they do, say, feel, and think are relatively idiotic. The
conflict, or major problem is Character vs. Self. Through the use of Characterization and Conflict,
both mythical protagonists Phaethon and Icarusdemonstrate a shared lesson that a prideful disregard
of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can lead to disastrous consequences.
Furthermore, Phaethon from Phaethon and Icarus from Daedalusand Icarus, both are prideful and
foolish. These characteristics are what progress the conflict. A good example is when Phaethon
does not listen to his fathers reasoning and instead uses Apollos promise against himself. I have
asked sire and you have promised (52) Phaethon obviously didnt even consider his fathers
advice, or warning, he has an over all disregard for his father Apollo, this isnt just rude, but
disrespectful, these actions prove an overall prideful personality, for he believes that he has the
right to defy those who are not just older, but more experienced and wise too, this pridefullness
led to the climax, where Phaethon dies a most terrible death. Icarus has similar characteristics, for
example, when Daedalus warns Icarus, Icarus holds no regard for this Warning. Above all do not
fly to high (61) His father yells. Yet,later in the text Icarus specifically states Sun...I can fly as high
as you! Icarus doesnt just

Great Gatsby Influences
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald
The way a person writes can be influenced by several factors. In The Great Gatsby written by
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, this novel is loosely based on Fitzgerald s own life. The Great

as The Roaring Twenties. The novel The Great Gatsby, was influenced by the time period, it was

Great Leap Forward Essay
Great Leap Forward was a movement during China s second Five Year Plan led by Communist
Party of China from 1958 to 1960, in order to improve the current situation of poverty and
backwardness in China at that time. Although it started with a good intention, the result of the
Great Leap Forward was disappointing. It was totally a mistake made by Mao during the
exploration of socialist that it brought a disaster to the Chinese economy and people s standards of

The causation of this failure event was complex and it is a topic worth many historians studying.

The initiation of Great Leap Forward was based on the basic situation and the information
provided by individuals and collectives at that time in China. Before the launch of Great Leap
Forward, the current status of Chinese economy was quite optimistic. The development of
agricultural cooperatives was so rapid that the number of cooperatives increased almost 45 times
from 300 to over 14,000 in a short 2 year period. In addition, China had just achieved great
success in the First Five Year Plan. The average annual increase rate of the national income
reached over 8.9 percent from 1953 to 1957. These outcomes and achievement gave Mao an
impression that people have the capacity to complete the high indicators he set and made him feel
that the new climax for the socialist masses is coming and all the cadres should energetically lead
the movement in a planned way.
However, some individuals and local cadres were not honest about the output they made. People
used to tell the good news only and hide the bad news to please superiors. Data and output were
often exaggerated. For instance, the total food production in four provinces was reported to the
central government as 66.8 billion in 1952, which seemed unrealistic. Although people intended to

Multiple Intelligence Theory and Learning Styles
Multiple intelligence theory and learning styles
According to my multiple intelligence learning profile, I am an equally strong kinesthetic,
intrapersonal, and existential learner. This suggests I learn by doing, learn best working with
others, and have a big picture orientation. I seek what works in practice rather than theory. In my
view, the fact that I received the same score in all three areas is indicative of the similarity between
these different types of intelligences. For example, existential learners like to synthesize ideas
based on their learning; develop a strong identity with their neighborhood and town; and express a
sense of belonging to a global community (Intelligence profile: Existential, 2012). Tying into my
sense of knowing thyself in relationship to others, I also have a strong intrapersonal intelligence.
This means I am capable of communicating my feelings to others, sensing my strengths and
weaknesses, and show confidence in my abilities (Intelligence profile: Intrapersonal, 2012).
Kinesthetic learners likewise seek to interact with their environment; enjoy hands on activities and
can remain focused on a hands on task for an extended period of time (Intelligence profile:
Kinesthetic. (2012).
I was not disappointed to read about my learning profiles, given that all three intelligences seem to
cohere well with the skills required to succeed in the workplace. Most of the skills demanded today
are learned on the job and employers are

Monoamine Hypothesis
Introduction Approximately 151 million people are currently combating major depressive
disorder (MDD) worldwide (Haddad Gunn, 2011). Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects
around one in six men, and one in four women during any given moment of their lives, and in any
twelve month period, nearly five percent of individuals in their surrounding communities are
depressed (Haddad Gunn, 2011). Depressive episodes may appear at any age; however, MDD is
most prevalent in adults who are eighteen years old to sixty four years old, with a median age of
onset being the twenties (Hillhouse Porter, 2015). The treatment of MDD often consists of
evidence based treatments (EBTs) that include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and

Several researchers (Hirschfield; 2000; and Schildlkruat, 1965) suggest that this hypothesis states
that individuals with depression have minimal concentrations of serotonin, norepinephrine, and
dopamine (as cited in Hillhouse Porter, 2015). Assumptions surrounding the monoamine hypothesis
were founded off an unanticipated discovery during the late 1950 s when two distinct classes of
chemical substances were effective in treating severe depression (Hillhouse Porter, 2015). The first
class of chemical substances contained monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MOAIs), exemplified by
iproniazid, which was utilized to treat tuberculosis, but presented apparent psychotropic effects; the
second class of chemical substances contained tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), represented by
imipramine, an unoriginal type of antihistamine (Mulinari, 2012). Risks factors associated with
development of MDD are lack of support systems, employment opportunities, prior or current abuse,
substance abuse, relationship difficulties, and life stressors (Haddad Gunn, 2011). The inception,
development, and diagnosis of MDD are affected by many factors, that including genes,
environment, and behavior (Yumi et al., 2015). Noteworthy, genetic, behavioral, abuse, and
socioeconomic risk factors for depression include a family history of abuse, alcohol misuse,

Genetic Engineering Negative Essay
After genes were discovered, scientists have been trying to disclose the mysteries of them. Since
genes are the basic building blocks of organism, they are extremely crucial to the development of
biological science. Genetic engineering seems to help the scientists explore the genomes. Genetic
engineering is a relatively new technology that is used to manipulate the genome of an organism.
It can be utilized to raise plants, cure diseases, create genetically modified babies, and clone living
organisms. In other words, scientists can use genomes as Lego blocks to build or change an
organism. When an innovative idea is introduced to people, two groups manifest: one that supports
the idea and one that opposes it. Recently, as the products of the technology, such as GMO food,
get increasingly more involved in human lives, people start to debate whether genetically
engineering is more beneficial or harmful. On the surface of the issue, genetic engineeringseems to
only serve benefits. However, while the development of genetic engineering can change our world
for the better, it has various negative influences on the human race in many aspects: it is harmful
toward the agricultural environment; it acts against nature; and it creates ethical problems.
Scientists must consider the disadvantages of the technology carefully, before they over develop it
to an extent that it creates irreversible harms which can impair the entire human race.

The Role Of The CIA Aid In Afghanistan
The CIA has played a prominent role combating radical Islamic groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan,
and the Middle East since 1979. After the soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, the CIA even
funded some of these groups in order to embarrass their main enemy at the time, the Soviet Union.
They did not, however, account for the fallout that would occur after the Soviets left. To a certain
extent, the terrorist attacks on 9/11 were a blowback from CIA policies in that region, and the
attacks, arguably, could have been prevented.
Firstly, it is important to understand the reasoning for the United States to support the Afghani
rebels, or the Mujahedeen, against their Soviet invaders. Afghanistan was a mess. In 1978, the

Theory Of The Permafrost Theory
Permafrost theory
The third medium explored as a heat sink for the heat exchanger is permafrost. Permafrost is soil
that is frozen year round. The top layer of permafrost experiences an active change in temperature
over the year. However, the permafrost retains a constant annual temperature a couple meters below
the surface. The constant below freezing temperature of the permafrost makes it a potential heat
sink for the heat exchanger.
The permafrost is treated as a solid for our exploratory analysis of it as the heat sink. Therefore, for
the purposes of our models, conduction is the primary mode of heat transfer out of the heat
exchanger system when permafrost is used as the surrounding medium. Fourier s Law is used as the
fundamental equation used in all of the heat exchanger analysis.
Fourier s Law: q = k∇T
Where:
q = Heat flux k = Thermal conductivity
∇T = Temperature gradient
A basic model of the heat exchanger is a pipe carrying the CO2 through permafrost. The inlet
temperature, outlet temperature, and heat rate out are all known variables. The dimensions of a
simple tubular heat exchanger are found using the general heat exchanger equation.
General Heat Exchanger Equation: q=UA∆T
Where:
Q = Heat rate
U = Overall heat transfer coefficient
A = Outer surface area
О”T = Change in temperature
The pipe experiences heat transfer by means of internal convection from the CO2, conduction
through the pipes material, and conduction from the permafrost. The overall heat

Glenohumeral Joint Research Paper
The Glenohumeral Joint and its
Function Within the Human Body
The glenohumeral joint, or shoulder joint, is one of the human body s appendicular joints and
boasts the greatest ROM (range of motion) of any joint in the body. An appendicular joint is a joint
that is part of the appendicular skeleton which includes the pectoral girdle, pelvic girdle, and limb
bones. The appendicular joints typically have a larger range of motion, but due to this are often
weaker than those found in the axial skeleton. The glenohumeral joint is responsible for articulating
movement of the upper arm by way of pivoting the humerus at the point that it meets with the
scapula. There are many different classifications of joints within the human body and the
glenohumeral joint is classified as a ball and socket joint which is one of six different synovial
joints present in the body. A synovial joint is a joint that contains articular cartilage, joint capsules,
and synovial membranes. A ball and socket joint is a joint that can be described as a ball that fits
into a cup shaped dock allowing motion in all directions. This arrangement allows the bone to
employ three different types of movement, angular, rotation, and circumduction. This structure is
what allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due in large part to the significant presence of a synovial membrane nestled between the
ball (humerus) and the socket (scapula). The synovial membrane is particular to freely movable
joint cavities and is a cushion between the two bones. As briefly mentioned previously, synovial
joints contain articular cartilage which covers bones at the joint , joint capsules a sac that covers
the ends of bones , and synovial membranes fluid that serves to reduce friction, provide shock
cushioning, and lubricates. These features are key in the glenohumeral joint because it has such a
large ROM and is subject to more shock than many other joints in the

4.The meaning of to the extent ITA 2007, section DA 1
In my opinion, the phrase of to the extent in ITA 2007, section DA 1 means an item of expenditure
may be apportioned between the amount that meets the general deductibility test or the amount
which does not satisfy the test (CIR v Banks, 1978).
5a. Deferred maintenance
In this case, the client is operating a bakery, and he anticipates he will incur $6.000 in maintain his
shop over the next 12 months. But according to the section DA 2 (1) ITA 2007, it states that
deduction for any expenditure or loss to the extent that it is of a capital nature (DA 2 General
limitations, 2004). Therefore, the maintenance expenditure is caught by section DA 2 (1), due to
the maintenance expenditure has a capital nature. For that reason, the deferred maintenance of
$6,000 is not allowed to deduct.
5b. Labour cost
In this scenario, the labor cost is to print his shop in order to save some costs, and it incurred by him
in the course of carrying on his business, which is consistent with the section DA 1(b) ITA 2007
(DA 1(b) General Permission, 2004). Therefore, the labor cost $1,000 is allowed to deduct.
5c. Childcare cost
In this situation, his wife is ill and is in hospital for a week. So, he has to pay his neighbor $100,
to look after their child. Put it simply, it is a childcare cost which has a private nature. According
to the section DA 2 (2), it sets out a deduction for any expenditure or loss to the extent that it is

In October 2003, San Diego experienced the Cedar Fire that claimed 273,246 acres, 2,820
structures, and 15 lives (CAL FIRE, 2015). It gained the moniker, The Hundred Year Fire
because another fire of its magnitude was not expected for another 100 years (San Diego Fire

San Diego experienced the largest wildfire in history (San Diego Fire Facts, 2016). This fire
gained the name, Witch Fire (CAL FIRE, 2015). These fires highlighted that there were not enough
fire fighters and resources to combat such fires. They highlighted areas that lacked emergency
service protection and showed a lack of preparedness (San Diego Fire Facts, 2016). Years after
the fires, some changes that came about include: wood shake shingles being banned on new
construction and could not be used as roof replacements (Mainar, 2013) and 100 feet became the
new defensible space, an increase from 65, between the fuel, for example vegetation, of the fire

Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting...
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to
kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he
had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost
as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an ElephantOrwell states, I was young
and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every
Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some
predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he
contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese
people, and killing the elephant.
In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is
well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism
among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his
position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost
everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing
the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a
sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to
enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he
is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for.
Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with
the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He
would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him
every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a
Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this
point in the essay Orwell starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a

Foretold Narrative Style
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a novel, that is written in a non
linear writing style. Non linear writing style is the exact opposite of chronological order. The way
the story is written affects our perception of the protagonists , Santiago s death. This novel is filled
with superstitions, religion and fate, all of these three key components seemed to lead to Santiago s
death as the noveland the story of his death developed. In order to fully understand what
happened to Santiago the day that he died, Garcia Marquez used diction, symbolism, and tone.
Garcia Marquez was trying to express the idea that superstition, fate, and religion are huge
aspects of a person s life and you can t escape the path that has already been mapped out for you.
He conveys these thoughts throughout the novel using Santiago Nasar s death as something that
seemed almost inescapable as you read the novel. Garcia Marquez used the idea of the
supernatural in his novel. He did this by using symbolism. When Garcia Marquez was young he
had to go live with his grandparents because it was common at the time in Colombian culture to
leave your children wherever one could manage because of financial situations. Garcia Marquez
was told stories of his grandparents adventures of when they were young. This is where Garcia
Marquez had developed his style of writing as magical realism. A lot of the superstitions in the
book he got from living with his grandparents. His grandparents,

I started my project and research by picking some research and learning goals. I decided I wanted
to investigate what my own patterns of tensions were, how to release them, the relationship to
the way I sit and neck tension and alignment, and what in particular causes this type of tension
for me. My original hypothesis was I would like to study my body alignment while sitting,
specifically in my upper back between my two scapula and my neck. I want to study this
alignment by actively journaling the changes I m feeling with our exercises in class, what
triggers my notices, through a series of progressive pictures, and by testing different positions .
After being in the class for a little while and learning more about somatic theory and important
principles, I decided to write a new thesis that reflected my expanding area of learning. My new
thesis was I want to study my biggest patterns of tension and how releasing that tension changes
my Body Map and Stress Level. I want to study how breath affects this process. I also want to
study how this new found release affects my dancing teaching ability . I started my actual
research within the neck with the basics: common injuries and range of motion. I found that
most neck injuries are from major accidents or from habitual tension and stress. The basic range of
motion is a 45 degree tilt forward and back, as well as side to side. Additionally you have an 80
degree range of motion looking side to side. All of these ranges are

Comparing The Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism
Capitalism is an economic system in a society in which private owners control industry and trade
within a country, rather than the state. Both Karl Marx and Max Weber, have written theories on
how this system develops in countries and creates a nation state that is characterised by production
and wealth. Marx s theory takes more of a top down approach, suggesting that people have little
power in how their society is run. On the other hand, Weber s bottom up approach demonstrates
how people have the ability to initiate capitalismand change their society. Marx s theory of
historical materialism is based on a 5 stage system inevitable of any society, Weber s theory of The
Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalismstates that it was a much smaller group within a feudal
society whose religiosity inadvertently kick started capitalism. Although both these theories look
at how capitalism develops within a society, Marx s macro scale theory is more applicable to
every society, unlike Weber s micro scale approach that focuses on one group within society and
their spirit of capitalism . Naturally, the theories vary due to the time of writing and the economic
or political situation. Marx wrote of historical materialism during a German economic crisis,
whereas Weber wrote his theory a generation after, seeing the economy develop and stabilise. This
impacted the message they were portraying and influenced two opposing theories.

Domains Of Development
In my term paper, I discussed how stress affects the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical
development in adolescents. At the end of my research paper, I have discovered that stress can
lead to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, impulsive and problematic behaviors due to sleep
deprivation that can cause substance abuse, and suicideideation due to lack of social support from
family and friends that will affect all four domains of development. Furthermore, I will discuss my
self reflection on how stress may affect the four domains of development as I transition to the next
stage of development, young adulthood. Additionally, I will conduct two interviews with different
adults that are in the later stages of development, young and middle... Show more content on

I am currently eighteen years old attending San Jose State University as a first year
undergraduate student majoring in Nursing and will be graduating in 2020. Also, I am raised
and currently living in San Jose, California. As I move into young adulthood, I think that stress
will influence my four domains of development because, during this stage, I will undergo
completing my college degree, finding a stable job, and being more independent. Transitioning
into young adulthood will affect my physical development because by then I will have a full
time job that will physically exhaust me that will result in the lack of exercise which then leads
to obesity and other cardiovascular diseases. Along with social and emotional development, I
will not be able to have the adequate amount of time to spend with family and friends due to my
job and that may lead to anxiety and depression that could also affect my current occupation.
Lastly, I think my cognitive development will be greatly affected because of the amount of
pressure that will be put upon me to complete my college degree and seek an occupation will
mentally drain me and that can affect my sleeping patterns and result in sleep deprivation. Several
ways that I can do to help promote a successful transition to the next stage of development is to take
advantage of San Jose State University s campus resources, like the Student Wellness Center that

Personal Narrative-Sarah Is Good
Sarah is trouble. Not that Beth wasn t trouble because she is, its just Sarah never listened and
always found a way to get herself into shit, and as her partner it was Beth s job to get her out of
it. Beth would be lying if she said she didn t like Sarah, in fact, she found Sarah to be brave and
instinctual which were good qualities especially for a cop. If Beth was being honest with herself
she would admit that she had some feelings for Sarah and that she found Sarah s strong willed
nature and her strength very attractive. But Beth didn t want to be honest with herself. After all
she was her mentor for fucks sake. But it was the little things, like the way Sarah smirked or the
way she flirted with Beth. Or the way She got snapped out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When they got out of the car they observed the house. The house had little paint on it and was
really just plain old brown wooden boards. Like something out of a horror movie. It was a
moderately sized house buried deep in the middle of nowhere perfect for an insane person
looking to murder a whole bunch of people. The house was surrounded by trees and gravel but
there were no signs of a vehicle. Sarah was quick to start approaching the house. I swear Sarah
doesn t hear a word I say Beth thought silently and quickly speed walked up to her, grabbing her
shoulder causing her to stop. please don t run off anywhere until I give you the go ahead. Beth

both cautiously walked in side. The furniture looked like it was from the 50 s and dust painted
the floor. There was a stairwell right next to the doorway that had an old red rug going up the
middle of it. Beth and Sarah gave each other a glance and straightened from their somewhat
crouched positions. They had one goal: to clear the house of any dangerous threats. The source was
anonymous so the likely hood of it being true is slim. But they have to look into it

The Tell Tale Heart Insanity
Edgar Allan Poe is a peculiar author who wrote many short stories that made his readers question

his fall into madness. The protagonist is the one telling his own story about his obsession with

Within every paragraph one could see how nervous the narrator is while telling this story. He is
very repetitive and is constantly reminding the audience that is not mad just because he wants to
kill a man. He even says I have told you that I am nervous: so I am. (Poe ) The narrator admits he
is nervous but then proceeds to ask how being nervous makes him a madman. Ultimately, what is
author is saying through tone is that throughout the whole story the protagonist admits he is
nervous and shows he is sad about his deed in the end when he admits to what he as done. This
shows how the main character is not in the right mindsets and is indeed mad not just

Megans Law Essay
In July of 1994, a little girl named, Megan Kanka, was raped and strangled. They found her body
near her home in
Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The story of thing young girl has shocked the nation. The man
responsible for this brutal act is named, Jesse Timmendequas. He had been convicted twice prior
to this attack. He also served six years in a treatment facility and had been released. Many people
said that he was a quiet man, and this left them to think he was harmless. Unfortunately, this wasn t
the case.
This sex offender lived in the same town, as a matter of fact, he lived across the street from the
Kanka family. This man was not ready to be released at all. In fact, he shouldn t have been

There should be a longer sentence for these offenders.
Because it is such a terrible and scarring experience for those who survive it, these people
shouldn t be able walk freely and live a normal life. These kids have to live with it for the rest of
their lives. It causes them to lose trust in people. We want our youth to be strong and loving, not
scared and traumatized. These sex offenders should never forget the crime that they committed.
They should not only do the time in jail, but they should also do the time out of jail. They should
feel like victims for the rest of their lives, and if the community feels like having these people
exposed, then so be it! Megan s mother stated, quot;If the family had been told that Jesse
Timmendequas was their neighbor, the girl would never have been allowed anywhere near the
neighbors. quot; {Ahearn, pg. 1}
Those who commit this crime, after knowing about
Megan s Law, should face more of a penalty. They know the consequences that they must face.
Those who committed the crime before Megan s Law was enacted, are also on the exposed list.
News organizations should also print or air the names and addresses of those with records of
passed and present convictions. We should have no mercy on them just like they have no mercy on
our young. This isn t a punishment, but a service to our community. These sex offenders have three
different categories that they are sorted into. Most are Tier One or Tier Two,

Pros And Cons Of Social Hierarchy Theory
This particular model is well established in today s modern communities. However, there are
certain disadvantages of the said model. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as
standard of living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than
biological that are responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchyand power that vastly
affects a person s health in today s world.
Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their
financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis
of race, religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the
health and services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss
social dominance theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The
theory describes the source of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain
groups and adversely affect people in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory,
there are dominant and subordinate groups and there exists inequality in both these groups.
There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in all developed economies on the basis of
age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race, rank, belief and faith. There are
five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups possess dominance over
other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It is more prevalent in
males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization happenings. We further
discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society into three groups
namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known as the Marxist
Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land belongs to
upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money
comprises of middle class. Lastly, less earning group with no property comprised the lower class.
There have been discrepancies amongst all these groups as far as health and health care

Crime And Violence In Colombia
South America has been known to be a major drug supplier for the United States and the rest of the
world. Colombia, in particular, in the past and in the present has had issues with crime and violence
inside of its borders. The violence and growth of gangs stems from the drug production and youth
recruitment that is common in Colombia today. These two factors are what has caused Colombia to
experience internal conflict among the Colombian citizens.
With being located in a suitable environment for growing drugs, Colombia has been a leading
nation for the production of drugs, especially cocaine (Blake). From the production of these drugs,
there comes a great deal of power and wealth. Drug production can produce immense profits for
these gangs. These huge profits from the drug industry are then turned into guns for further
fighting ( The Colombian Cartel ). By turning all their cash into guns, the gangs are just adding to
the violence within Colombia. The profits from the drug production have a direct connection to
the violence that is becoming progressively prevalent. For example, Colombia has a violence rate
for every 100,000 people of 37.61, whereas European countries such as France (1.07), ... Show

production allows for these gangs in Colombia to gain access to weapons which leads to violence

  • 2. Reasons For Imperialism According to the textbook, World History: Modern Times by Glencoe. Imperialism is said to be extension of a nations power over other lands (page 430). The power included control of politics, economy, and culture life of other countries. Imperialism was global and was controlled by France, Britian, and the United States. Over time other countries became a part of imperialistic rule. There are four forms of imperial rule that included: colonies, protectorates, spheres of influence, and economic imperialism. Colonies were in categories by two different kinds; direct rule and indirect rule. Direct rule meant that officials from France were sent to be in charge of the colonies. Indirect rule meant that rulers from that area were in charge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Britan saw India as a great source of raw materials because of their canal that made transporting materials easy and made trade of textiles inexpensive. Being able to get raw materials and cheap labor from countries who were poor became the drive for imperialism. Another motivation for imperialism was an effort for countries in power to gain more power over other European countries. They also wanted to gain more land and they did not stop at using their military force to get what they wanted! Also imperialism was motivated by moral benefits. The ruling countries believed they were the superior race because they were white and everyone else was considered primitive . For example, in the 1850 s the British mistreated Indian soldiers and this led to a war. The ruling countries also considered it their job to civilize people in other parts of the world. An example can be seen in the fact that many Indians were impressed by the British and learned English and actually condemned some tradtions held by the Indians like child ... In New York, students at the State University of New York Fredonia (SUNY) sponsored a texting awareness week to make college students more aware of the risks of distracted driving. The dangers of distracted driving have led the United States Department of Transportation to make a major initiative to develop solutions to end distracted driving. • 4. Fatty Acid Composition Of Adipose Tissue And Colorectal... Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue and colorectal cancer: a case control study Colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common cancers worldwide that usually leads to the death of the patient. Studies have proved that lifestyle factors great influence the development and spread of cancer. Modifying the lifestyle can reduce the risk of getting colorectal cancer by 70%. It is noted that more consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer. However, high intake of dietary fibers decreases it. On the contrary epidemiologic studies that connect the fat intake with colorectal cancer are varying and unreliable. The concentrations of fatty acids in human serum and in the membranes of red blood cells depict the intake of previous days or weeks. Conversely, the fatty acid concentration in the adipose tissue truly show the habitual dietary intake in the previous two to three years. Hence, various studies that aim to explore the correlation between the concentration of fatty acids and cancer risk use adipose tissue in this request. The case study discussed in this paper is conducted in Five University hospitals located in Northeastern France (Cottet and others 2015). Subcutaneous adipose tissue samples were acquired from the surgery departments through surgeons. The samples belonged to the patients who were admitted for elective abdominal surgery. These patients were recently diagnosed of primary colorectal cancer. Patients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an esteemed Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus of her novels to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely selective world that was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period, including that of Austen, were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that they live in the shadow of men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered by means of the money that they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral funds. The social structure was hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic upper classes and middle classes, ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely mingled with each other. Austen intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels that focus on mannerisms, social communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay Gender and Genre, describes Austen s style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity, romantic desire and gender relations as shaped by the social context. • 12. My Most Unforgettable Week Of My Life POW! I dive left to go for the save. The game had just ended and we were now in the penalty shootout. I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK shootout. Back in March, my parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for the soccer camp, at first I did not want to go but since the camp was full and there were no other tickets I had to go so I did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I realized that it would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go to it this time. There were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent forgot to sign their kid into the camp. This was my most unforgettable week of my life because this was just such a good camp, plus I got one of my highlights of my goalie career to me. The camp that I went to was at Dail soccer/track complex at NC State University. It had a baseball field right next to it with a camp going on for softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the street, yet there is a tunnel underneath the street that we took. For the games for overtime it did not work the same as normal we went straight to the penalty shootout, instead of having two overtime periods. This week happened to me because my parents were able to sign me up for the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year. They had won a ticket into the camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at the web page for it to see what it was about and thought I would enjoy it, so I went to it. On the first day of camp we went and filled everything out so I could have fun and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to the camp to have fun I did not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp. After that, I went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the second goalie group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of people that have some problems with ourselves. Most of the people in our group would talk when our coach talked or wanted them to pay attention. Then there were the other people, like me, in the group who wanted to get as far as possible in training and wanted to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Data is secured using these methods, but the fact that data is present somewhere gives us a specific target, whereas sole purpose of steganography is that none must know there is some hidden data in the file. So, steganography easily has upper hand over cryptography and watermarking. Steganography can use almost all kinds of media present over internet to transmit secret data. In this paper, we review some audio steganography techniques, their algorithms and some challenges faced in their design and implementation. We will look in detail some modified techniques for audio steganography. Also, we look at the problems faced with using mp3files as cover media. Introduction Steganography is the science of hiding information so that it remains undetected except by its intended receiver. Need of steganography arises when one needs to communicate privately and he cannot risk to arouse the suspicion by sending encrypted message in plain sight. • 16. Compare And Contrast Phaaethus And Icarus The two myths Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus describe two foolishly ambitous boys. Their Characteristics are small minded, for what they do, say, feel, and think are relatively idiotic. The conflict, or major problem is Character vs. Self. Through the use of Characterization and Conflict, both mythical protagonists Phaethon and Icarusdemonstrate a shared lesson that a prideful disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can lead to disastrous consequences. Furthermore, Phaethon from Phaethon and Icarus from Daedalusand Icarus, both are prideful and foolish. These characteristics are what progress the conflict. A good example is when Phaethon does not listen to his fathers reasoning and instead uses Apollos promise against himself. I have asked sire and you have promised (52) Phaethon obviously didnt even consider his fathers advice, or warning, he has an over all disregard for his father Apollo, this isnt just rude, but disrespectful, these actions prove an overall prideful personality, for he believes that he has the right to defy those who are not just older, but more experienced and wise too, this pridefullness led to the climax, where Phaethon dies a most terrible death. Icarus has similar characteristics, for example, when Daedalus warns Icarus, Icarus holds no regard for this Warning. Above all do not fly to high (61) His father yells. Great Leap Forward Essay Great Leap Forward was a movement during China s second Five Year Plan led by Communist Party of China from 1958 to 1960, in order to improve the current situation of poverty and backwardness in China at that time. Although it started with a good intention, the result of the Great Leap Forward was disappointing. It was totally a mistake made by Mao during the exploration of socialist that it brought a disaster to the Chinese economy and people s standards of living. Before the launch of Great Leap Forward, the current status of Chinese economy was quite optimistic. The development of agricultural cooperatives was so rapid that the number of cooperatives increased almost 45 times from 300 to over 14,000 in a short 2 year period. In addition, China had just achieved great success in the First Five Year Plan. The average annual increase rate of the national income reached over 8.9 percent from 1953 to 1957. These outcomes and achievement gave Mao an impression that people have the capacity to complete the high indicators he set and made him feel that the new climax for the socialist masses is coming and all the cadres should energetically lead the movement in a planned way. However, some individuals and local cadres were not honest about the output they made. People used to tell the good news only and hide the bad news to please superiors. Multiple Intelligence Theory and Learning Styles Multiple intelligence theory and learning styles According to my multiple intelligence learning profile, I am an equally strong kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and existential learner. This suggests I learn by doing, learn best working with others, and have a big picture orientation. I seek what works in practice rather than theory. In my view, the fact that I received the same score in all three areas is indicative of the similarity between these different types of intelligences. For example, existential learners like to synthesize ideas based on their learning; develop a strong identity with their neighborhood and town; and express a sense of belonging to a global community (Intelligence profile: Existential, 2012). Tying into my sense of knowing thyself in relationship to others, I also have a strong intrapersonal intelligence. This means I am capable of communicating my feelings to others, sensing my strengths and weaknesses, and show confidence in my abilities (Intelligence profile: Intrapersonal, 2012). Kinesthetic learners likewise seek to interact with their environment; enjoy hands on activities and can remain focused on a hands on task for an extended period of time (Intelligence profile: Kinesthetic. (2012). I was not disappointed to read about my learning profiles, given that all three intelligences seem to cohere well with the skills required to succeed in the workplace. Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects around one in six men, and one in four women during any given moment of their lives, and in any twelve month period, nearly five percent of individuals in their surrounding communities are depressed (Haddad Gunn, 2011). Depressive episodes may appear at any age; however, MDD is most prevalent in adults who are eighteen years old to sixty four years old, with a median age of onset being the twenties (Hillhouse Porter, 2015). Several researchers (Hirschfield; 2000; and Schildlkruat, 1965) suggest that this hypothesis states that individuals with depression have minimal concentrations of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (as cited in Hillhouse Porter, 2015). Assumptions surrounding the monoamine hypothesis were founded off an unanticipated discovery during the late 1950 s when two distinct classes of chemical substances were effective in treating severe depression (Hillhouse Porter, 2015). The first class of chemical substances contained monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MOAIs), exemplified by iproniazid, which was utilized to treat tuberculosis, but presented apparent psychotropic effects; the second class of chemical substances contained tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), represented by imipramine, an unoriginal type of antihistamine (Mulinari, 2012). Risks factors associated with development of MDD are lack of support systems, employment opportunities, prior or current abuse, substance abuse, relationship difficulties, and life stressors (Haddad Gunn, 2011). The inception, development, and diagnosis of MDD are affected by many factors, that including genes, environment, and behavior (Yumi et al., 2015). Noteworthy, genetic, behavioral, abuse, and socioeconomic risk factors for depression include a family history of abuse, alcohol misuse, intimate partner violence or abuse, and poverty (Haddad Gunn, 2011). • 22. Genetic Engineering Negative Essay After genes were discovered, scientists have been trying to disclose the mysteries of them. Since genes are the basic building blocks of organism, they are extremely crucial to the development of biological science. Genetic engineering seems to help the scientists explore the genomes. Genetic engineering is a relatively new technology that is used to manipulate the genome of an organism. It can be utilized to raise plants, cure diseases, create genetically modified babies, and clone living organisms. In other words, scientists can use genomes as Lego blocks to build or change an organism. When an innovative idea is introduced to people, two groups manifest: one that supports the idea and one that opposes it. Recently, as the products of the technology, such as GMO food, get increasingly more involved in human lives, people start to debate whether genetically engineering is more beneficial or harmful. On the surface of the issue, genetic engineeringseems to only serve benefits. However, while the development of genetic engineering can change our world for the better, it has various negative influences on the human race in many aspects: it is harmful toward the agricultural environment; it acts against nature; and it creates ethical problems. Scientists must consider the disadvantages of the technology carefully, before they over develop it to an extent that it creates irreversible harms which can impair the entire human race. They did not, however, account for the fallout that would occur after the Soviets left. To a certain extent, the terrorist attacks on 9/11 were a blowback from CIA policies in that region, and the attacks, arguably, could have been prevented. • 24. Theory Of The Permafrost Theory Permafrost theory The third medium explored as a heat sink for the heat exchanger is permafrost. Permafrost is soil that is frozen year round. The top layer of permafrost experiences an active change in temperature over the year. However, the permafrost retains a constant annual temperature a couple meters below the surface. The constant below freezing temperature of the permafrost makes it a potential heat sink for the heat exchanger. The permafrost is treated as a solid for our exploratory analysis of it as the heat sink. Therefore, for the purposes of our models, conduction is the primary mode of heat transfer out of the heat exchanger system when permafrost is used as the surrounding medium. Fourier s Law is used as the fundamental equation used in all of the heat exchanger analysis. Fourier s Law: q = k∇T Where: q = Heat flux k = Thermal conductivity ∇T = Temperature gradient A basic model of the heat exchanger is a pipe carrying the CO2 through permafrost. The inlet temperature, outlet temperature, and heat rate out are all known variables. The dimensions of a simple tubular heat exchanger are found using the general heat exchanger equation. General Heat Exchanger Equation: q=UA∆T Where: Q = Heat rate U = Overall heat transfer coefficient A = Outer surface area О”T = Change in temperature The pipe experiences heat transfer by means of internal convection from the CO2, conduction through the pipes material, and conduction from the permafrost. Glenohumeral Joint Research Paper The Glenohumeral Joint and its Function Within the Human Body The glenohumeral joint, or shoulder joint, is one of the human body s appendicular joints and boasts the greatest ROM (range of motion) of any joint in the body. An appendicular joint is a joint that is part of the appendicular skeleton which includes the pectoral girdle, pelvic girdle, and limb bones. The appendicular joints typically have a larger range of motion, but due to this are often weaker than those found in the axial skeleton. The glenohumeral joint is responsible for articulating movement of the upper arm by way of pivoting the humerus at the point that it meets with the scapula. There are many different classifications of joints within the human body and the glenohumeral joint is classified as a ball and socket joint which is one of six different synovial joints present in the body. A synovial joint is a joint that contains articular cartilage, joint capsules, and synovial membranes. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an ElephantOrwell states, I was young and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing the elephant. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for. Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. I decided I wanted to investigate what my own patterns of tensions were, how to release them, the relationship to the way I sit and neck tension and alignment, and what in particular causes this type of tension for me. Both Karl Marx and Max Weber, have written theories on how this system develops in countries and creates a nation state that is characterised by production and wealth. Marx s theory takes more of a top down approach, suggesting that people have little power in how their society is run. Marx s theory of historical materialism is based on a 5 stage system inevitable of any society, Weber s theory of The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalismstates that it was a much smaller group within a feudal society whose religiosity inadvertently kick started capitalism. Naturally, the theories vary due to the time of writing and the economic or political situation. It does not take into consideration social aspects such as standard of living and the financial system as a whole. There are several other factors other than biological that are responsible for an illness in individuals such as hierarchyand power that vastly affects a person s health in today s world. Hierarchy is defined as the categorization of collection of individuals in accordance with their financial, societal and professional position in the society. Individuals are divided on the basis of race, religion, class, ethnicity and many more factors which in turn have great impact on the health and services provided to individuals in these distinct categories. Firstly, we will discuss social dominance theory which was developed by Sidanius and Pratto in the year 1999. The theory describes the source of societal hierarchies and how these classifications boost certain groups and adversely affect people in particular groups (Moss, 2016). According to this theory, there are dominant and subordinate groups and there exists inequality in both these groups. There are three different arrangement of hierarchy in all developed economies on the basis of age, gender and subjective reasons such as ethnic group, race, rank, belief and faith. There are five key determinants of this theory. To start with, governing groups possess dominance over other minor groups. Also societal background greatly impacts these groups. It is more prevalent in males than females and is affected by traits of people and socialization happenings. We further discuss Karl max s theory of socialism which classifies individuals in society into three groups namely upper, middle and lower class (Hierarchy structure, 2017). Normally known as the Marxist Social Hierarchy, the said theory explains that the wealthiest individuals owning land belongs to upper class, individuals who work for upper class and sells their talent in return of money comprises of middle class. Colombia, in particular, in the past and in the present has had issues with crime and violence inside of its borders. The violence and growth of gangs stems from the drug production and youth recruitment that is common in Colombia today.
