Essay On Tsunamis
Since Tsunamis have occurred, there has been a considerable amount of destruction to buildings and
structures. People have spend Millions in rebuilding these structures which is not benefiting the
economy and this disaster has been continuously been in the news and also has been happening
around the world especially in the Ring of Fire. This part of the world is disastrous as many seismic
sea waves, earthquakes and volcanoes occur. [1] There are many problems relating to waves that
affect people over the world. Some waves being very dangerous while other not as much. Tsunamis

One major limitation to Curved seawalls or seawalls in general is that they ruin the view and scene for
tourists. Although, seawalls protect and prevent any harm to human residence, a big tall concrete
structure instead of an open area with a view will ruin the tourist attraction in an area. Coming to a
beach, people and especially tourists would expect to have a beautiful scene with nothing blocking
their sight. Would a concrete wall ruin tourists view on shorelines or beaches? This connects to a
social aspect as people want to enjoy and have fun at the beach with sunny weather and also a great
view, but with a big concrete wall, tourists and people would not feel that welcomed. This also
connects to Beach reviews online as tourists might comment something negative about the scene and
view. This also connects to an economical aspect because tourists will not be as attracted to the beach
or shoreline as they used to be, meaning, that the workers in stores, shops or workers doing activities
will not earn as much money as not many people would be there.

Athens, The Polis And The High Classical Period
Athens, the Polis and the High Classical Period, Athenians Acropolis.
The Acropolis (Athens, Greek) is a city on the hills with four magnificent buildings around. The city
built 495 425 BC near the Athens, city of Athens. The meaning of the Acropolis is come from an Acro
means highest point and the polis means city. Persians in 490 BCE and again in 480 479BCE

that time and a great see and trading power. The Acropolis is a proof of human and Greek ancient who

Pros And Cons Of Tattoos
Today, older generations view tattoos as trashy, unclassy, and unprofessional; while younger
generations think they are more acceptable, art like, and a way to further express yourself. Tattoos
today are becoming more accepted by the younger generations. As a result of this it is now much
easier to have visible tattoos in a workplace today, then it was years ago, but tattoos still have a long
way to go before being completely accepted like they are amongst other countries, and/or cultures.
People like to say be yourself and don t let anyone else stop you from being you. Yet as people grow
up and start to find who they want to be, they find themselves getting judged for many things. People
could be judged for many things whether it s the color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, to really understand opinions on tattoos and how they ve changed, one has to look at tattoos
in the workplace. USA Today published an interview with a man named Richard Bailey. Bailey is 45
years old and has very visible tattoos all up and down his arms. 20 years ago, Bailey was working in a
social services sector. Based on his experience in the workplace there, he said that people were very
prejudiced and judgy towards him if he were to wear a short sleeved shirt. Additionally, he said that he
would get odd looks.( Monty, Lynn ) Going back to another man with tattoos who also receives odd
looks, Kevin Bailey says that he felt the most discrimination when getting interviewed for a job.
Kevin said he was told that It wasn t the best idea to turn up with my tattoos showing. Kevin then
questions this by asking, How does a person s artwork on their skin, deem them different to the norm
of society? , following with Having tattoos does not affect your suitability for a job. ( Bailey, Kevin )
If this statement is true, then why has it been so hard for people with visible tattoos to get jobs? With
roughly 45 million Americans having tattoos today, ( The Progression of Social Acceptance of Tattoos
) one would think having tattoos is the norm . Subsequently, these people should be fine

One To One Correspondence
One strategy that I thought was useful was One to One Correspondence. It is important to teach
students how to relate math concepts to real life objects and situations. Relating math to a student s
personal life could help a student who is struggling in math. If the student could connect a math
concept that they are struggling with to a personal connection, it could make the concept easier or
more reliable to them. Many students always ask Will we ever use this in real life? when learning a
math concept. It is important to teach our students how to use math in a real life situation, so they are
motivated to learn the concept and practice it every day. As well, relating the math questions or
concepts to the student s interest will help motivate

Describe A Circumstance, Obstacle Or Conflict In My Life
Prompt: TEXAS A M UNIVERSITY Describe a circumstance, obstacle or conflict in your life, and
the skills and resources you used to resolve it. Did it change you? If so, how? His Name was Rob
Though I have faced many obstacles, or at least what I consider to be obstacles, there is one specific
instance that comes to mind when I reflect upon this prompt. It was not so much an obstacle as a guy,
and his name was Rob. I know what you are thinking. Here is another teenage girl about to blather on
about her boy problems. If you knew me, you would know right off the bat that this is not the case,
and if you are willing...give me a chance. I will relay to you a personal explanation for the quizzical
statement above. Then, and only then, can you draw your own conclusions. In the summer of my
sophomore year, one of my mom s childhood friends came to visit us. For the sake of anonymity, she
shall henceforth be referred to as Jane Doe. Jane was unhappy with her marriage, and after several
years of unhappiness decided to leave her husband. Her husband, or ex husband shall I say, was
named Rob and is the same man as aforementioned. Nothing was so terrible in their relationship that,
in my opinion, it could not be fixed. However, it never has been nor ever will be my place to judge
them or their actions. Months passed and Jane became a closer member of our family. She finally
(over a period of several months) came to the decision that she would stay with us on the large plot of
land our family shares. We were overjoyed at this news, and above all else we were happy that she
was happy. Then one day a letter arrived for Jane. It was from Rob, her now ex husband. It came so
swiftly and without warning that I do not feel it is unjust to compare it to a falling star, yet unlike a
falling star its arrival was not anticipated with wishes and excitement. The letter, to the best of my
memory, said something along the lines of this, I have cancer. It seems I couldn t live with me either.
Although the card was set up to portray such utterly heart wrenching news comically, I am not
ashamed to admit that just by thinking back to this time, tears pool in my eyes. In a manner of a few
weeks, Jane was packed to head back to Rob.

Leasing A Piece Of Machinery Or Property
Leasing a piece of machinery or property can be beneficial for a company or individual rather than a
straight out purchase. This report will define a lease, the types, and benefits. While illustrating the
difference between a lessee and the lessor, showing the implantations of tax benefits each party will be
able to partake in. The third aspect that will be covered is the written agreement between the parties,
and how these terms can be self defining as to what type of lease in which the parties are agreeing to.
A lease is a legal document outlining the terms under which one party agrees to rent property from
another party. A lease guarantees the lessee (the renter) use of an asset and guarantees the lessor (the
property owner) regular payments from the lessee for a specified number of months or years. Both the
lessee and the lessor must uphold the terms of the contract for the lease to remain valid. (Investopedia)
With in the contracts the details of the agreement are laid out, for both the lessee and lessor. Within
these documents and who they are written can determine what type of lease they are.
Lease Types
There are in general two types of leases. The first would be a capital lease which is a lease in which
the lessor only finances the leased asset, and all other rights of the ownership transfer to the lessee
(Accounting Tools). Within the parameters of the capital lease the lessor can only record the interest
on the lease as an expense, while the asset itself

High Anxiety With Mixed Emotions
Being deployed through Matterhorn caused high anxiety with mixed emotions. The soldiers you
become family with and you learn that the higher ranking officers are not your friends or family. The
racial problems are brought from home to the jungle and even though you fight side by side with these
attitudes, a worry of trouble erupting in your own company is a constant. We are taken through the
Vietnam War encountering the entire struggle, heartache, and gripping physical and mental pain from
the deployed soldiers barely old enough to obtain a driver s license. The plans placed on paper
constituting plans of attack are not sufficient for the current war zone and the colonel whom is
nowhere near just wants the men to keep going no matter what the cost. The goal of the directing rank
is to keep the body count of the Vietnamese high and they are not against turning reported probables
into confirmed numbers. Marlantes insight into Matterhorn was appalling; the men were treated with
the utmost disrespect when it came to their basic needs. The lack of resupply, FAC man, the company
s enlisted forward air controller, has once again not been able to talk a resupply chopper down through
the clouds, so this had been the fourth day without resupply, limited the men from functioning
properly. The men who had been injured were holding on to hope that a medivac would come. To me
this is completely unacceptable. These men were sent to Vietnam to fight a war they did not start

Essay about Socrates Views on Virtue and Happiness
There are certain truths of the world that cannot be ignored or overlooked. Many philosophers have
spent countless years discussing, debating and evaluating such truths. One such influential philosopher
is Socrates. Born in Athens in 469 B.C.E, he spent most of his time at the marketplace and other
public places engaging in dialogues about truths of life. Among many other things, he discussed virtue
and happiness and how closely they are related. According to Socrates, virtue is absolutely necessary
for perfect happiness because virtue brings a type of happiness that other things could never bring. In
this paper, I will explain the aforementioned idea of Socrates on virtue and happiness and through
evidence from Plato s Apology which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea of goodness and virtue goes anything beyond worldly values and ideals. A good man cannot
be harmed either in life or in death (41d), says Socrates further explaining that no matter what, a better
man [cannot] be harmed by a worse (30d). Having virtue gives you a certain happiness that is well
beyond life or death or worldly values and goods. So, how exactly does a person become virtuous?
Socrates offers suggestions and explanation for this question as well. Socrates claims that one cannot
be virtuous accidentally. Just because you commit a virtuous act does not make you virtuous. An
understanding of the concept of virtue is equally important as the virtuous act itself. One needs to
understand the nature of virtue which requires reflection of virtue and this reflection is only possible
once you grasp your own ignorance about the nature of virtue. This understanding of one s own
ignorance is human wisdom. So, since being perfectly happy requires being virtuous and being
virtuous requires human wisdom, human wisdom is necessary for perfect happiness. So as a person
begins to acquire human wisdom which is merely an understanding and acknowledgment of one s own
ignorance, they are on their road to acquiring perfect happiness. So what happens to people who
cannot acquire human wisdom and in turn cannot be virtuous? Are they denied happiness

Essay on How To Write Using the APA Writing Style
The APA writing style is most commonly used to cite sources for psychology, education, and social
sciences and is also the official writing style of the American Psychological Association. The General
APA Organizational Guidelines are basic guidelines that explain how to write a research paper in the
APA format. These guidelines ensure clear and consistent presentation of written material that
differentiates from other writing styles because it concerns elements such as: Citations, punctuation,
presentation of numbers, etc There are four major sections in an APA paper. They consist of the title
page, abstract, main body, and references. The title page of an APA paper has recently been changed in

The body of an APA paper Come back to. A literature review is a type of APA paper that summarizes a
scientific text about ones topic or question. A literature review focuses on a specific topic of interest
and includes a critical analysis where one would compare different literature that relates to the subject
of one s own work. It normally includes a title page, introduction section, and a list of references.
Many confuse a literature review with an annotated bibliography, but the difference between a
literature review and an annotated bibliography is that an annotated bibliography only summarizes
briefly about an article that one viewed while an annotated bibliography focuses specifically on a
topic. An experimental report, also know as lab reports is put shortly, a story of ones research where
someone would guide a reader through their experiment. Though this story, one would have to argue
that their research is both valid and reliable, the meaning of their research, and how it relates to work
that was previously written. An experimental report normally follows the scientific method and should
include these following sections: Title page, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion,
references, appendixes (if necessary), and table or figures (if necessary).
Because an APA paper should be as formal and scientific as possible, gender terms should not be used
when they are not necessary. For example, the APA

Feynman was born in Queens New York in May of 1918. He was raised by his Mother, a housewife,

The Darkness Of The Night
The slightly built woman dreaded the advancing darkness of the night as she stood solemnly by the
window, staring, but not actually seeing the rolling green hills of the Appalachian Mountains. Their
peaks dominated the landscape, rising high above the treetops. How she would love to escape over
their crests never to return.
In the distance, an encroaching curtain of gloom had begun to fall across the countryside. Lightning
bolts flashed brilliantly across the sky briefly brightening the room, as the loud rumble of thunder
shook the windows.
The damp air from the approaching rain blew through the open window and hung in the room with
humid, oppressive tension, bringing the potential for chaos along with a cleansing relief from the
relentless summer heat.
Worry and doubt cast a burden on her heart as the setting sun slowly seeped into the earth, drawing her
ever closer to despair.
Uneasy fingers ruffled through light brown hair, which flowed in long waves to her waist. Beautiful,
tear filled violet eyes reflected an intensity that was rare in someone so young.
One hand reached up hastily wiping a tear from her rosy cheek where a smattering of faint freckles ran
randomly across the bridge of her nose.
The bleakness of the threatening thunderclouds, chasing across the evening sky, matched the depth of
her encompassing depression.
It was Friday, and the coal miners would be converging on the local merchants to spend the small
amount of cash they received each week. The

Comparison Of Blindness And The Maze Runner
Blindness For my reading for this trimester I chose to read Blindness. The book starts with a man
suddenly going blind at a traffic light. From there everyone who comes in contact with this man
becomes blind and then the people who become blind find that people they come in contact with also
become blind. I had several connections with this book. In this paper I will talk about my connections
with this book to other books I have read and this book to my life. Two books that this story reminded
me of were The Hunger Games series and the Maze runner series. One of the main reasons why I
thought of these books was because of the fact that they are trapped or contained in a place against
their will. A similarly between The Maze Runner and Blindness is that they have a reason why they
were put in these places in The Maze Runner they were put in the maze because of their intelligence.
In Blindness they were put in the asylum because of the fear of the blindness spreading. A second
reason is that in these stories it seems like the government or whoever was in charge was against the
people contained in these areas. In a way all the governments in these ... Show more content on

The health sector is among the most important sectors in the United States economy. The government
has enacted certain laws that affect the corporation s activities and the insurance industry in general.
The regulation affects competition among the health insurance companies, and the insurance industry

Among the five forces of competition; existing competitive rivalry between suppliers, threat of new
market entrants, bargaining power of buyers, power of suppliers and threat of substitute products, the
most significant for UnitedHealth Group are threats for substitute products and rivalry among
competing firms. Given the fact that there are numerous healthcare insurance firms in the world; there
are also a number of substitutes for the corporation products and services. In recent years, the banking
industry has become involved in insurance activities. They provide some medical plans, which act as

Why were the Habsburgs unable to consolidate their power...
The seventeenth century was undeniably a period of great division, war and turmoil for Hungary. After
the events of the previous century, Hungary remained divided into three distinct areas. The largest was
Ottoman Hungary, under the direct control of Constantinople, which encompassed the south and south
east of Hungary. Second, there was the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom founded by János Zápolyai in
1526, who after the defeat of the Hungarian forces at the First Battle of Mohács sought the support of
Sultan Suleiman I to be crowned King of Hungary by a rival faction of the nobility and became the
Sultan s vassal. After 1571, with the coronation of István Báthory, this Kingdom became the

the Habsburg Archduke of Austria Ferdinand I was elected King of Bohemia. He moved to secure his

1526. However, he was not uncontested. János Zápolyai was also elected King by the majority of the
nobility on November 11th. In order to cement his rule, Zápolyai was encouraged by a Polish noble
and the French ambassador to Poland to enter an agreement with the Ottoman Sultan. As a result,
Suleiman I supported Zápolyai and had him become his vassal. Suleiman then moved to expand
further into Hungary and marched west, reaching Vienna in 1529. After the siege, heavy snowfall
forced the Ottomans to retreat on October 14th, while Ferdinand secured the western province of
Hungary. It was this division which remained the status quo until our period being studied, due to the
exhaustion of the Ottoman machine of expansion. The result was the split of Hungary by the
seventeenth century into the Habsburg controlled Royal Hungary in the west, the rival Principality of
Transylvania in the east and the Ottoman controlled lands of the south and centre. This made sure that
the Habsburg could consolidate power in Hungary while it was so divided. It should next be argued

his best known works are entitled #61505;Dover Beach #61504; and #61505;The Buried Life.
#61504; Although the exact date of composition is unknown, clearly they were both written in the
early 1850s. The two poems have in common various characteristics, such as the theme and style. The
feelings of the speakers of the poem also resemble each other significantly. The poems are concerned
with the thoughts and feelings of humans living in an uncertain world. Even though Arnold wrote
#61505;Dover Beach #61504; and #61505;The Buried Life #61504; around the same time, the ...

Indeed, this sound of sadness is an ancient entity since #61505;Sophocles long ago/ Heard it on the

eternal note of sadness #61504; has been important to writers and philosophers throughout time.
Arnold believed this same sound existed in all the seas around the world. The waves, sounding of
despair, also symbolize the curtailment of religious values. In stanza three the speaker describes the
diminishing faith of religion in England: #61505;The Sea of Faith/ Was once, too, at the full, and
round earth #61501;s shore/ Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled. #61504; At one point England
#61501;s faith was like a high tide. It was similar to a belt being placed around the world, holding it
together. During this time people believed in their religion, thus leading England into a state of order
and tranquility. However, now the speaker only feels a troubled sense of blankness: #61505;But now I
only hear/ Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,/ Retreating, to the breath/ Of the night wind, down
the vast edges drear/ And naked shingles of the world. #61504; This passage emphasizes a mood of
uncertainty and alienation in the world. In stanza four, the speaker ends on a note of melancholy. Love
is offered as a possible solace from the sadness of the world, but quickly this idea is abandoned for

Freud id, ego, superego
To become a healthy adult socially, mentally and physically Freud believed that children must develop
a reasonable balance between id and superego. Id is the natural, unsocialized, biological portion of
self, including hunger and sexual urges. Superego is composed of internalized social ideas about right
and wrong. When describing the effects of socialization: the process through which people learn the
rules and practices needed to participate successfully in their culture and society, Peter Berger said,
Not only do people live in society, but society lives in people. We make up a society. The laws we set
in place labeling right and wrong, and the authoritative persons we put in charge teach us obedience.
Society lives in us: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some may argue that we have the freedom of choice, but our choices are limited and making the one
that is not socially acceptable can result in punishment. When we do not follow social norm we
receive ridicule and/or punishment. The United States of America values freedom, yet there are laws
put in place restricting us of doing whatever we want. Structural functionalists point out that schools
teach children not only to read and write, but also to obey authority and to conform to society s rules.
It is most useful for explaining the benefits of a stable social system. Structural functionalists theorize
that socialization in schools, religious institutions, families, and elsewhere smoothly integrates the
young into the broader culture, avoiding conflict or chaotic social change. Humans are creations of
their culture. Everything we know we have been taught from the people surrounding us. Humans are
also self creating. Bringing what we have learned to other regions sharing and spreading the different
cultures creating new ideas and different ideas begin to slowly blend. The conflict theory is useful for
understanding how socialization can repress dissent, discourage social change and reproduce
inequalities. Conflict theorists can look at how some parents socialize children to consider girls less
valuable than boys by requiring girls to wash dishes after dinner, but allowing boys to go outside to
play. They can also look at how

Methods Of An Adult English As A Second Language ( Esl )...
Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods are used in an Adult English as a
Second Language (ESL) classroom. I am interested in what types of activities facilitate students
understanding, make students comfortable, and encourage student participation. I chose to concentrate
on this aspect of second language (L2) learning because as a future teacher, I believe it is important to
be mindful and use activities and interactions that appeal and are beneficial to all students. This study
made me more aware of the interactions and activities used in the classroom. In order to narrow down
the investigation, the following three research questions were formulated:
1. What methods are used in the classroom?
2. What activities are used in the classroom and what method do they align with?
3. Do students respond to some activities more than others?
Theoretical Context: There are many methods that have been formed regarding second language
acquisition. According to Brown (2014), the communicative method emphasizes authenticity,
interaction, student centered learning, task based activities, and communication for real world,
meaningful purposes (369). A main tenant of the communicative method is second language
acquisition transpires within a communicative environment. According to Brown (2014), the Total
Physical Response is a method that relies on physical or kinesthetic movement accompanied by
language practice (382). The main ideas of Total Physical

What Does Plath s Cut Poem
Almost similar to Edge , Cut is one of Plath s collections that contain bright metaphors of death
things. It conveys the idea of a woman who cut her thumb when setting meal in the kitchen rather than
the onion that she will be used for cooking. In this poem, Plath expressed the idea of an insurgent in
life.
What a thrill
My thumb instead of an onion.
The top quite gone
Except for a sort of a hinge (L. 1 4)
Ironically, in the opening of this poem labels the joyful of cutting the thumb. It indicates the signs of
psychological disorder for the woman who cuts her thumb. As previously stated in Chapter II, usually
in hard times of life, people often lost their self and unconsciously do something destructively toward
other or self. When a thumb is cut, people should cry for it or sad because her thumb is in pain.
However, this woman is pleased when her thumb cut. Her thumb cut until her upper thumb fairly
disappeared but she feels the pleasure for this. In this case, the incident of cutting thumb seems not an
accidental one. It is looked like the woman intentionally cut her thumb.
Of skin,

Dead white.

(Gale. 2005). From the title, I am vertical; it tells the existence of humanity as a mortal individual. So,
horizontal in this poem can see as the position of a human when back to nature as death coming. By
being horizontal, the speaker thinks to be more valuable for her life or other people. The speaker
thinks that her/his death will be a good thing to other. Death is a prestigious goal that the speaker

Low-Fiber Diets
Introduction
Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A low fiber diet restricts fibrous foods that are
not digested in the small intestine. A diet is considered to be low fiber if it contains about 10 15 grams
of fiber a day. In general, a low fiber food will have fewer than 2 grams of fiber per serving. Low fiber
diets may be used to:
Promote healing and rest the bowel during intestinal flare ups.
Prevent blockage of a partially blocked or narrowed gastrointestinal tract.
Reduce fecal weight and volume.
Slow bowel movements.
You may be on a low fiber diet as a transitional diet following surgery, after an injury, or because of a

Major Challenges of Organizational Management
MAJOR CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
There are a number of differences between FMC s Aberdeen and Green River, the two facilities of
discussion. One may assume, therefore, that managerial styles, business practices, and other aspects of
business and the employees involved, would be very different from one another. On the other hand, it
is quite possible to use very similar styles of doing business and managing a company, despite
differences in the company, as a good style of managing, and good practices would assist any business
in succeeding. Management, employees and productivity being the main focus s at hand, one may first
want to review these differences between the two facilities. To begin with, the facility in ... Show more

Good communication between all management levels and employees is also necessary in keeping any
business running efficiently. Again, seeing as how the Aberdeen facility has already established these
practices, and has them running smoothly, they need only to maintain them and increase innovation
with the times.
If I were to use an analogy to describe these two types of managerial styles, I would state that the
original style of managing was like a pyramid, and this new style of managing was a linked chain. The
pyramid is dependent on all of its members, but there is a definite sense of superiority, as the higher
management levels shrink down in numbers, but tower over all else. This pyramid, upon producing
positive results, is viewed by others as having produced them due to the excellence of the peak of the
pyramid, with very little or no recognition at the bottom of said pyramid. The linked chain on the
other hand, though still managed with upper and lower levels, reacts more as a team, giving those
involved more recognition for their accomplishments. People who are recognized as such, and
appreciated for their individual strengths, may be more likely to utilize these strengths and feel that
they are a part of the company, rather than a pawn of the company. There is something very positive to
be said for this type of thinking, if everyone on the Earth felt

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Ww1 Trenches
Of the numerous strategies used throughout World War 1 and 2 those in WW2 proved more effective
due to the standstill trench warfare brought, the ease with which trenches were defeated by tanks later
in the war, and the speed and efficiency widespread mechanized warfare and blitzkrieg gave to armies
in WW2.
In throughout WW1, trenches were used quite liberally along the front lines. As a strategy to prevent
advancement of the enemy s front lines trenches proved effective, however due to its widespread use
by both sides it prevented nearly any progression in the war for periods of time. The stagnation it
caused is a major reason why widespread use of the tactic was ineffectual. Dues to the long periods
troops stayed in trenches, which were quite unsanitary and muddy soldiers often contracted infectious
diseases or gangrene, pushing this tactic further into the reaches of inferior due to the harm it could
cause one s own troops. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tanks allowed a force to advance towards an enemy s lines with the protection of the armor and
playing a part in rendering trenches obsolete. The further advancement of tank technology following
WW1 cemented trench warfare s ineffectuality and obsolescence, as the vast majority of tank s flaws
were greatly improved.
The invention, improvement, and proliferation of tanks not only rendered numerous WW1 strategies
completely obsolete but gave rise to mechanized warfare. Mechanized warfare in its various forms
proved quite effective One specific type such as the highly mechanized blitzkrieg, allowed the Nazis
to very quickly and effectively overwhelm the defenses of nations during invasions prior to and early
in the Second World War. Besides Blitzkrieg, mechanized warfare in general, allowed battles to reach

Pain and Painkillers
Like a bell ringing mechanism in a church . That is how, in 1664, Descartes (Jackson, 2002) suggested
pain should be visualized. This, however, is a very primitive description of the phenomenon of pain.
Injury or inflammation of a bodily tissue can lead to profound changes in the internal chemical
environment. Damaged cells discharge their intracellular components, releasing substances, notably
ATP, potassium ions (K+) and acetyl chloine (ACh). Some of these contents act on nociceptors
directly, triggering an action potential which will end up in the brain. Other components released from
the cells can sensitize the terminals, making them hypersensitive to further stimuli. This allows a pain
signal to be transmitted when a seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hinders the production of the neurotransmitter ACh, resulting in fewer action potentials being
transmitted down the neurones and hence a numbing effect is experienced. It is thought that morphine
and other narcotics may exploit this natural mechanism that has evolved for the similarly shaped
enkephalins. Heroin is a far more powerful drug than morphine, possibly because the drugpasses the
blood brain barrier far more readily. The heroin is then hydrolysed to morphine once inside the body
and so the pain killing mechanism is likely to be very similar to the way in which morphine works.
However, it is common to develop tolerance and desensitization towards opioids as the opioid
receptors are continually used. This has been termed the cascade of cellular adaptation (Strelzer J,
2001; Borgland SL, 2001). Furthermore, animal studies have suggested that, in the case of morphine
taken during chronic pain, not only tolerance is acquired towards its analgesic effects, but also an
increased sensitivity towards pain actually develops (Ibuki T, et al, 1997; Celerier E et al, 2001).
Non narcotic analgesics are the household drugs used to treat moderate pains. These include
paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen. There are very few noticeable effects beyond treating specific
pains (in contrast to narcotics, when a feeling of well being takes over the body).

The Sunni-Shia Divide
Introduction
Islam is a monotheistic religion that started in Arabia (1). It was founded by the prophet Muhammad
and during the first century of its creation, it spread throughout Arabia and beyond (12). Muslims
believe that Muhammad saw visions of the angel Gabriel telling him the of the wisdoms of God.
Today, Islam is the second largest religion in the world and just like other major world religions, there
are divisions that exist in Islam. What must be the most significant division is the division between the
Sunnis and the Shiites.
What caused the split and their claims to legitimacy
Islam was founded by Muhammad and during his life, he was able to gain many followers, even
conquering the city of Mecca from which fled because of prosecution (1). Because of the zeal of its
followers, Islam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The centuries old Sunni Shia divide is exacerbated by contemporary concerns over power, freedom
and equality (8). Many Sunni countries are prejudiced against Shiites and at the same time, are scared
of Shiism spreading. Sunni dominated governments such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan have
worked to keep Shiites and Sunnis divided and specifically, to keep Shia subjugated (8,9). For
example, the government of Saudi has worked to build a network of mosques, seminaries, schools,
and writers that emphasize Sunni identity (8). In Algeria, the minister of education dismissed teachers
in the fear that they were spreading Shiism. The Sunni s fear of Shia spreading that it controls even the
potential of Shiism to spread makes the divide even bigger and has caused anti Shia propaganda with
renewed virulence (9,11). The prejudice that Sunnis hold against Shiites is illustrated in this example.
A man who was to give a guest lecture in Pakistan on Sunni Shia relations told a group of Muslim
professors, when asked, that he was Christian. One of them replied, Well at least you re not Shia

Analysis Of A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
A slanted truth is when a person tries to lessen the blow of the truth by not saying the whole truth or
says it in a manner that eases the blow by using tactics such as humor. A Modest Proposal by Jonathan
Swift is a piece of literature that is used to make a statement to the people and leaders of Ireland to
hopefully scare them into changing their corrupt taxing system and poor treatment of the middle class.
Swift s idea to offer up children to be eaten is a rather diverting way that slants the truth for the public
while still getting his point across.
Eating children is a horrendous thought for any human, or at least it should be. During the 1700s
Ireland was going through economic struggles brought on by the poor leadership of the country. The
rich, who ran the country where over taxing and raising the price to live everyday life to help support
their grand life style. When the country faced economic struggles and jobs became scared, the rick
stayed in their high castle while the rest of the country struggled just to eat. This nearly wiped out the
middle class. It is a melancholy object to those, who walk through this great town, or travel in the
country, when they see the streets, the roads and cabin doors crowded with beggars of the female sex,
followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags, and importuning every passenger for an alms.
(Swift, Paragraph 1)
A Modest Proposal was created to show the country how their corrupt political system is leading to its
destruction. Swift uses the slant proposal of raising and eating the poors children for the upper class
for money will actually help the country through their hardships. But my intention is very far from
being confined to provide only for the children of professed beggars: it is of a much greater extent,
and shall take in the whole number of infants at a certain age, who are born of parents in effect as little
able to support them, as those who demand our charity in the streets. (Swift, Paragraph 3) There is a
whole system within the madness that is very persuasive and convincing of his ridiculous idea. First
off the mother and father must start to have more children. He states that the children should be raised
up, and even bred

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Relationship Between Good And Evil
The Choice of Illusion Robert Louis Stevenson s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde, follows the life of Dr. Jekyll as he attempts to answer the question of how to be good. Jekyll
comes to the conclusion that the make up of man consist of two parts: the good and the evil. The
relationship between good and evil are according to Jekyll a duality. This duality is understood as
interdependence between good and evil. In other words, good and evil exist in relationship with each
other, thus without one, the other ceases to exist. However, it seems as if Jekyll wants to suggest that
good and evil are independent and can be separated. This interpretation of duality shows that Jekyll
simply misinterprets the relationship between good and evil. Though Jekyll may seem to
misunderstand the relationship between good and evil, the text shows that while he does, he
intentionally ignores reality and creates for himself an ultimately futile fantasy. If Jekyll s
understanding of the relationship between good and evil is one of independence, then being ... Show

How do we see good and evil? What is our understanding of the relationship between the two? Are we
disillusioned like Jekyll was? Jekyll s end does not have to be the fate of all disillusionment. The
choice is there and one can choose to continue in one s fantasy as Jekyll did or in contrary, to
understand the significance of choice and retain the possibility of being good. The relationship
between good and evil allows there to be a choice. It is in this choice that good and evil can even exist.
It then in this choice that we can attain being a good person or a bad person. This stresses the
importance of the choices we make. Jekyll s choices led him to an end that cost his life. Life is a series
of decisions and it is these decisions that we can live a good or a bad life, to die happy or unhappy, to
be or not to be a good

Although, seawalls protect and prevent any harm to human residence, a big tall concrete structure instead of an open area with a view will ruin the tourist attraction in an area. Coming to a beach, people and especially tourists would expect to have a beautiful scene with nothing blocking their sight. Would a concrete wall ruin tourists view on shorelines or beaches? This connects to a social aspect as people want to enjoy and have fun at the beach with sunny weather and also a great view, but with a big concrete wall, tourists and people would not feel that welcomed. This also connects to Beach reviews online as tourists might comment something negative about the scene and view. This also connects to an economical aspect because tourists will not be as attracted to the beach or shoreline as they used to be, meaning, that the workers in stores, shops or workers doing activities will not earn as much money as not many people would be there. ... • 4. Pros And Cons Of Tattoos Today, older generations view tattoos as trashy, unclassy, and unprofessional; while younger generations think they are more acceptable, art like, and a way to further express yourself. Tattoos today are becoming more accepted by the younger generations. As a result of this it is now much easier to have visible tattoos in a workplace today, then it was years ago, but tattoos still have a long way to go before being completely accepted like they are amongst other countries, and/or cultures. People like to say be yourself and don t let anyone else stop you from being you. Yet as people grow up and start to find who they want to be, they find themselves getting judged for many things. However, to really understand opinions on tattoos and how they ve changed, one has to look at tattoos in the workplace. USA Today published an interview with a man named Richard Bailey. Bailey is 45 years old and has very visible tattoos all up and down his arms. 20 years ago, Bailey was working in a social services sector. Based on his experience in the workplace there, he said that people were very prejudiced and judgy towards him if he were to wear a short sleeved shirt. Additionally, he said that he would get odd looks.( Monty, Lynn ) Going back to another man with tattoos who also receives odd looks, Kevin Bailey says that he felt the most discrimination when getting interviewed for a job. Kevin said he was told that It wasn t the best idea to turn up with my tattoos showing. Kevin then questions this by asking, How does a person s artwork on their skin, deem them different to the norm of society? , following with Having tattoos does not affect your suitability for a job. ( Bailey, Kevin ) If this statement is true, then why has it been so hard for people with visible tattoos to get jobs? It is important to teach students how to relate math concepts to real life objects and situations. Relating math to a student s personal life could help a student who is struggling in math. If the student could connect a math concept that they are struggling with to a personal connection, it could make the concept easier or more reliable to them. Many students always ask Will we ever use this in real life? when learning a math concept. It is important to teach our students how to use math in a real life situation, so they are motivated to learn the concept and practice it every day. • 7. Describe A Circumstance, Obstacle Or Conflict In My Life Prompt: TEXAS A M UNIVERSITY Describe a circumstance, obstacle or conflict in your life, and the skills and resources you used to resolve it. Did it change you? If so, how? His Name was Rob Though I have faced many obstacles, or at least what I consider to be obstacles, there is one specific instance that comes to mind when I reflect upon this prompt. It was not so much an obstacle as a guy, and his name was Rob. I know what you are thinking. Here is another teenage girl about to blather on about her boy problems. If you knew me, you would know right off the bat that this is not the case, and if you are willing...give me a chance. I will relay to you a personal explanation for the quizzical statement above. Then, and only then, can you draw your own conclusions. In the summer of my sophomore year, one of my mom s childhood friends came to visit us. For the sake of anonymity, she shall henceforth be referred to as Jane Doe. Jane was unhappy with her marriage, and after several years of unhappiness decided to leave her husband. Her husband, or ex husband shall I say, was named Rob and is the same man as aforementioned. Nothing was so terrible in their relationship that, in my opinion, it could not be fixed. However, it never has been nor ever will be my place to judge them or their actions. Months passed and Jane became a closer member of our family. She finally (over a period of several months) came to the decision that she would stay with us on the large plot of land our family shares. We were overjoyed at this news, and above all else we were happy that she was happy. Then one day a letter arrived for Jane. It was from Rob, her now ex husband. It came so swiftly and without warning that I do not feel it is unjust to compare it to a falling star, yet unlike a falling star its arrival was not anticipated with wishes and excitement. The letter, to the best of my memory, said something along the lines of this, I have cancer. It seems I couldn t live with me either. Although the card was set up to portray such utterly heart wrenching news comically, I am not ashamed to admit that just by thinking back to this time, tears pool in my eyes. In a manner of a few weeks, Jane was packed to head back to Rob. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Leasing A Piece Of Machinery Or Property Leasing a piece of machinery or property can be beneficial for a company or individual rather than a straight out purchase. This report will define a lease, the types, and benefits. While illustrating the difference between a lessee and the lessor, showing the implantations of tax benefits each party will be able to partake in. The third aspect that will be covered is the written agreement between the parties, and how these terms can be self defining as to what type of lease in which the parties are agreeing to. A lease is a legal document outlining the terms under which one party agrees to rent property from another party. A lease guarantees the lessee (the renter) use of an asset and guarantees the lessor (the property owner) regular payments from the lessee for a specified number of months or years. Both the lessee and the lessor must uphold the terms of the contract for the lease to remain valid. (Investopedia) With in the contracts the details of the agreement are laid out, for both the lessee and lessor. Within these documents and who they are written can determine what type of lease they are. Lease Types There are in general two types of leases. The first would be a capital lease which is a lease in which the lessor only finances the leased asset, and all other rights of the ownership transfer to the lessee (Accounting Tools). Within the parameters of the capital lease the lessor can only record the interest on the lease as an expense, while the asset itself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The soldiers you become family with and you learn that the higher ranking officers are not your friends or family. The racial problems are brought from home to the jungle and even though you fight side by side with these attitudes, a worry of trouble erupting in your own company is a constant. We are taken through the Vietnam War encountering the entire struggle, heartache, and gripping physical and mental pain from the deployed soldiers barely old enough to obtain a driver s license. The plans placed on paper constituting plans of attack are not sufficient for the current war zone and the colonel whom is nowhere near just wants the men to keep going no matter what the cost. The goal of the directing rank is to keep the body count of the Vietnamese high and they are not against turning reported probables into confirmed numbers. Marlantes insight into Matterhorn was appalling; the men were treated with the utmost disrespect when it came to their basic needs. The lack of resupply, FAC man, the company s enlisted forward air controller, has once again not been able to talk a resupply chopper down through the clouds, so this had been the fourth day without resupply, limited the men from functioning properly. • 10. Essay about Socrates Views on Virtue and Happiness There are certain truths of the world that cannot be ignored or overlooked. Many philosophers have spent countless years discussing, debating and evaluating such truths. One such influential philosopher is Socrates. Born in Athens in 469 B.C.E, he spent most of his time at the marketplace and other public places engaging in dialogues about truths of life. Among many other things, he discussed virtue and happiness and how closely they are related. According to Socrates, virtue is absolutely necessary for perfect happiness because virtue brings a type of happiness that other things could never bring. This idea of goodness and virtue goes anything beyond worldly values and ideals. A good man cannot be harmed either in life or in death (41d), says Socrates further explaining that no matter what, a better man [cannot] be harmed by a worse (30d). Having virtue gives you a certain happiness that is well beyond life or death or worldly values and goods. So, how exactly does a person become virtuous? Socrates offers suggestions and explanation for this question as well. Socrates claims that one cannot be virtuous accidentally. Just because you commit a virtuous act does not make you virtuous. An understanding of the concept of virtue is equally important as the virtuous act itself. One needs to understand the nature of virtue which requires reflection of virtue and this reflection is only possible once you grasp your own ignorance about the nature of virtue. This understanding of one s own ignorance is human wisdom. So, since being perfectly happy requires being virtuous and being virtuous requires human wisdom, human wisdom is necessary for perfect happiness. So as a person begins to acquire human wisdom which is merely an understanding and acknowledgment of one s own ignorance, they are on their road to acquiring perfect happiness. So what happens to people who cannot acquire human wisdom and in turn cannot be virtuous? Are they denied happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Major Challenges of Organizational Management MAJOR CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT There are a number of differences between FMC s Aberdeen and Green River, the two facilities of discussion. One may assume, therefore, that managerial styles, business practices, and other aspects of business and the employees involved, would be very different from one another. On the other hand, it is quite possible to use very similar styles of doing business and managing a company, despite differences in the company, as a good style of managing, and good practices would assist any business in succeeding. Management, employees and productivity being the main focus s at hand, one may first want to review these differences between the two facilities. To begin with, the facility in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Good communication between all management levels and employees is also necessary in keeping any business running efficiently. Again, seeing as how the Aberdeen facility has already established these practices, and has them running smoothly, they need only to maintain them and increase innovation with the times. If I were to use an analogy to describe these two types of managerial styles, I would state that the original style of managing was like a pyramid, and this new style of managing was a linked chain. The pyramid is dependent on all of its members, but there is a definite sense of superiority, as the higher management levels shrink down in numbers, but tower over all else. This pyramid, upon producing positive results, is viewed by others as having produced them due to the excellence of the peak of the pyramid, with very little or no recognition at the bottom of said pyramid. The linked chain on the other hand, though still managed with upper and lower levels, reacts more as a team, giving those involved more recognition for their accomplishments. People who are recognized as such, and appreciated for their individual strengths, may be more likely to utilize these strengths and feel that they are a part of the company, rather than a pawn of the company. There is something very positive to be said for this type of thinking, if everyone on the Earth felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Ww1 Trenches Of the numerous strategies used throughout World War 1 and 2 those in WW2 proved more effective due to the standstill trench warfare brought, the ease with which trenches were defeated by tanks later in the war, and the speed and efficiency widespread mechanized warfare and blitzkrieg gave to armies in WW2. In throughout WW1, trenches were used quite liberally along the front lines. As a strategy to prevent advancement of the enemy s front lines trenches proved effective, however due to its widespread use by both sides it prevented nearly any progression in the war for periods of time. The stagnation it caused is a major reason why widespread use of the tactic was ineffectual. Dues to the long periods troops stayed in trenches, which were quite unsanitary and muddy soldiers often contracted infectious diseases or gangrene, pushing this tactic further into the reaches of inferior due to the harm it could cause one s own troops. ... The further advancement of tank technology following WW1 cemented trench warfare s ineffectuality and obsolescence, as the vast majority of tank s flaws were greatly improved. The invention, improvement, and proliferation of tanks not only rendered numerous WW1 strategies completely obsolete but gave rise to mechanized warfare. Mechanized warfare in its various forms proved quite effective One specific type such as the highly mechanized blitzkrieg, allowed the Nazis to very quickly and effectively overwhelm the defenses of nations during invasions prior to and early in the Second World War. • 33. Pain and Painkillers Like a bell ringing mechanism in a church . That is how, in 1664, Descartes (Jackson, 2002) suggested pain should be visualized. This, however, is a very primitive description of the phenomenon of pain. Injury or inflammation of a bodily tissue can lead to profound changes in the internal chemical environment. Damaged cells discharge their intracellular components, releasing substances, notably ATP, potassium ions (K+) and acetyl chloine (ACh). Some of these contents act on nociceptors directly, triggering an action potential which will end up in the brain. Other components released from the cells can sensitize the terminals, making them hypersensitive to further stimuli. This allows a pain signal to be transmitted when a seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This hinders the production of the neurotransmitter ACh, resulting in fewer action potentials being transmitted down the neurones and hence a numbing effect is experienced. It is thought that morphine and other narcotics may exploit this natural mechanism that has evolved for the similarly shaped enkephalins. Heroin is a far more powerful drug than morphine, possibly because the drugpasses the blood brain barrier far more readily. The heroin is then hydrolysed to morphine once inside the body and so the pain killing mechanism is likely to be very similar to the way in which morphine works. However, it is common to develop tolerance and desensitization towards opioids as the opioid receptors are continually used. This has been termed the cascade of cellular adaptation (Strelzer J, 2001; Borgland SL, 2001). Furthermore, animal studies have suggested that, in the case of morphine taken during chronic pain, not only tolerance is acquired towards its analgesic effects, but also an increased sensitivity towards pain actually develops (Ibuki T, et al, 1997; Celerier E et al, 2001). Non narcotic analgesics are the household drugs used to treat moderate pains. These include paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen. There are very few noticeable effects beyond treating specific pains (in contrast to narcotics, when a feeling of well being takes over the body). • 34. The Sunni-Shia Divide Introduction Islam is a monotheistic religion that started in Arabia (1). It was founded by the prophet Muhammad and during the first century of its creation, it spread throughout Arabia and beyond (12). Muslims believe that Muhammad saw visions of the angel Gabriel telling him the of the wisdoms of God. Today, Islam is the second largest religion in the world and just like other major world religions, there are divisions that exist in Islam. What must be the most significant division is the division between the Sunnis and the Shiites. What caused the split and their claims to legitimacy Islam was founded by Muhammad and during his life, he was able to gain many followers, even conquering the city of Mecca from which fled because of prosecution (1). Because of the zeal of its followers, Islam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The centuries old Sunni Shia divide is exacerbated by contemporary concerns over power, freedom and equality (8). Many Sunni countries are prejudiced against Shiites and at the same time, are scared of Shiism spreading. Sunni dominated governments such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan have worked to keep Shiites and Sunnis divided and specifically, to keep Shia subjugated (8,9). For example, the government of Saudi has worked to build a network of mosques, seminaries, schools, and writers that emphasize Sunni identity (8). In Algeria, the minister of education dismissed teachers in the fear that they were spreading Shiism. The Sunni s fear of Shia spreading that it controls even the potential of Shiism to spread makes the divide even bigger and has caused anti Shia propaganda with renewed virulence (9,11). The prejudice that Sunnis hold against Shiites is illustrated in this example. A man who was to give a guest lecture in Pakistan on Sunni Shia relations told a group of Muslim professors, when asked, that he was Christian. One of them replied, Well at least you re not Shia ... • 35. Analysis Of A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift A slanted truth is when a person tries to lessen the blow of the truth by not saying the whole truth or says it in a manner that eases the blow by using tactics such as humor. A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift is a piece of literature that is used to make a statement to the people and leaders of Ireland to hopefully scare them into changing their corrupt taxing system and poor treatment of the middle class. Swift s idea to offer up children to be eaten is a rather diverting way that slants the truth for the public while still getting his point across. Eating children is a horrendous thought for any human, or at least it should be. During the 1700s Ireland was going through economic struggles brought on by the poor leadership of the country. The rich, who ran the country where over taxing and raising the price to live everyday life to help support their grand life style. When the country faced economic struggles and jobs became scared, the rick stayed in their high castle while the rest of the country struggled just to eat. This nearly wiped out the middle class. It is a melancholy object to those, who walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads and cabin doors crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags, and importuning every passenger for an alms. (Swift, Paragraph 1) A Modest Proposal was created to show the country how their corrupt political system is leading to its destruction. Swift uses the slant proposal of raising and eating the poors children for the upper class for money will actually help the country through their hardships. But my intention is very far from being confined to provide only for the children of professed beggars: it is of a much greater extent, and shall take in the whole number of infants at a certain age, who are born of parents in effect as little able to support them, as those who demand our charity in the streets. (Swift, Paragraph 3) There is a whole system within the madness that is very persuasive and convincing of his ridiculous idea. First off the mother and father must start to have more children. He states that the children should be raised up, and even bred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Relationship Between Good And Evil The Choice of Illusion Robert Louis Stevenson s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, follows the life of Dr. Jekyll as he attempts to answer the question of how to be good. Jekyll comes to the conclusion that the make up of man consist of two parts: the good and the evil. The relationship between good and evil are according to Jekyll a duality. This duality is understood as interdependence between good and evil. In other words, good and evil exist in relationship with each other, thus without one, the other ceases to exist. However, it seems as if Jekyll wants to suggest that good and evil are independent and can be separated. This interpretation of duality shows that Jekyll simply misinterprets the relationship between good and evil. Though Jekyll may seem to misunderstand the relationship between good and evil, the text shows that while he does, he intentionally ignores reality and creates for himself an ultimately futile fantasy. If Jekyll s understanding of the relationship between good and evil is one of independence, then being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How do we see good and evil? The relationship between good and evil allows there to be a choice. It is in this choice that good and evil can even exist. It then in this choice that we can attain being a good person or a bad person. This stresses the importance of the choices we make. Jekyll s choices led him to an end that cost his life.
