Tort And Contractual Liability
TASK 6 Contrast liability in tort with contractual liability. Explain liability in negligence as well. Torts
are considered unfair acts that result in loss, causing damage or injury to anyone else in the form of
body, property, or legal rights . The reason behind this is the violation of duty that was owed as
decreed by law. Tort laws are considered civil wrong and the individual who is wronged can sue in the
civil court either as compensation or some form of equitable remedy to have prevented repetitive
actions. When parties are bound by contracts, contractual liability also exists. This act of volunteering
is generally voluntary. Companies and individuals are all applicable for Tort Laws. Law of obligations
can be used as a classifier for both laws of tort and contract. Every individual is applicable for the Tort
Law that has relevance to while the contract law is assumed voluntarily. Agreements result in
contractual obligations. As a consequence, legal ramifications result in legal obligation. Contractual
liability is an obligation assumed by any contracting party under the terms of a contract ... Show more

If a party does not perform an action in the way that the contract stipulated, the contractual liability is
then incurred. One example is a single party contracted to rent an inflatable swimming pool for an
outdoor party. If the item is not received on the correct date and time, the contract is breached and the
pool company is held liable for the amount stated in the contract. But if the individual fails to make
payment the company for the pool, he is responsible for the losses caused to the company by not

The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves ...
The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves
To emphasize her viewpoint in The Waves, Woolf employs a distinctive style. She interlocks the
dramatic monologues of six characters at successive stages in their lives to tell her story; and prefaces
each of the sections with a descriptive passage of sun and waves through a single day. In these
passages descriptions of the sun, the sea, the plants, and the birds make implicit comparisons with the
characters speeches. The actions of the birds in the descriptive passages most strikingly parallel the
developing consciousness of the characters, exemplified by Susan.
The birds developing singing abilities and early explorations parallel Susan s experiences in childhood

About to leave finishing school in Switzerland, Susan declares her hatred of the unfamiliar I hate fir
trees and mountains. Anticipating her return home, she asserts, I cannot be divided, or kept apart (97)
and describes the sensuous pleasures of home and country life.
Further into the novel, the birds behavior corresponds to Susan s early adulthood, her prime, and her
middle age. The birds sing alone, stridently . . . as if the song were urged out of them . . . as if the edge
were being sharpened. They [descend] dry beaked, ruthless, abrupt (109), soar in high flights, observe,
sever upon encountering a rock. Susan, hating London, comes dowdily dressed like a creature dazed
by the light of a lamp (119) to Percival s farewell dinner. At this reunion she learns that Bernard,
whom she loves, has become engaged. Susan thinks that something irrevocable has happened. . . . We
shall never flow freely again (142). The sun rises to its full height; the birds passionate songs
addressed to one ear only (149) stop; they build nests. Word arrives that Percival, who has loved
Susan, has died in India. Susan, engaged to a farmer, shows momentary anger at the news. The sun no
longer stands in the middle of the sky; the birds sit still and pause in their song as if glutted with
sound, as if the fullness of midday had gorged them (165). Susan sees the seasons

The Poverty Of The United States
Poverty can be defined as a condition that people suffer from due to lack of economic resources. For
being such a prosperous country, the United States possesses a persistent problem. The problem is the
poverty rate in America and how it has become a force that continuously grows. One fact that
American citizens are not aware of or do not wish to implement in their minds is that nearly 50 million
people in the United States live in poverty. Amongst the 50 million people in the United States that
live below the poverty line, over 5 million more were women than man. This phenomenon as to in
which women experience poverty at far higher rates than men is described as feminization of poverty,
a term coined by Diana Pearce in 1978 (3: Thibos). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his main arguments was that federal welfare became so generous that it led to women
preferring unwed motherhood and indolence over getting married and obtaining jobs (315: Edin and
Lein). An associate professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, Kathryn Edin, teamed up
with Laura Lein, a senior lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, in order to express whether the
benefits of living off the welfare program in the United States actually enabled single mothers to make
ends meet. Edin and Lein conducted a study by interviewing 379 single mothers in Boston,
Charleston, Chicago, and San Antonio and displayed their studies in Making Ends Meet: How Single
Mothers Survive on a Welfare Check . Amongst these single mothers, 214 were welfare reliant
mothers and they were the people that Edin and Lein focused on in order to test the assumption of
whether the welfare system was being abused or not. All 214 of these women and their 464 children
relied on the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), the government income transfer
program for poor families that consisted of non elders. On average these single mothers spent $213 a
month on housing, $262 on food, $336 on other necessary expenses, and $64 on items that were not
necessarily essential. This summed up to be a total of $876 being spent on an average family of 3.17

The Passing of Hong Kong to Mainland China Authorities
Percy Craddock, British Ambassador to China, to pass on to Premier Zhao Ziyang. The letter
consented to explore Chinese proposals for Hong Kong s administration. In this first breakthrough, the
British found an effective method to push forward the talks with the Chinese, through communications
between the top leaders. By adding a channel of communication above the negotiating table, the
British found a shortcut to win Chinese concessions by directly appealing to the people who had the
final say. (482 asymmetry).
Finally Britain had realized that it had been taking the wrong approach to negotiating with China.
With the advice from Prime Minister Lee in hand and some firsthand experience of what to expect
from China Britain formulated a new diplomatic strategy for dealing with China. Britain now
understood that if they pushed directly against the Chinese then they would be seen as Colonial
bullies. They had learned that Hong Kong was not just a political or economic matter to China but that
it was a matter of repairing their national pride. They also now understood the intricacies of Chinese
bureaucracy and how to navigate it. British Foreign Secretary Howe came up with a metaphor that
summed up Britain s new strategy. Hoped that it would diminish[ed] as much as possible the
atmosphere of confrontation and would cultivate relations with Chinese leaders. Hong Kong was like
a Ming vase an object of priceless value. He highlighted that the two sides were engaged in

Pandora Compare And Contrast Essay
Another important requirement for the process of natural selection among species is having a variety
of traits. The variation of traits to be selected upon by the environment allows for the changing of
allele frequencies among the generations of the population. One of the main sources for genetic
variation is sexual reproduction, which occurred between members of the Na vi and members of the
Thanator species. Sexual reproduction among members of a species can lead to genetic mutations in
the DNA, which can attribute to the variability of genes. One obvious variable trait among the
hominid species of Pandora is their height. The males were typically seen to be taller in height than
the females, but with each member having a different height the trait can vary among offspring. If the
environment demands for taller offspring then it will naturally select for that trait among individuals,

The species throughout Pandora also seem to have homologous characteristics among each other. A
homologous structure is essentially an anatomical similarity between organisms of different species
that are representative of variations on a structural basis and are derived from a common ancestor.
Different homologous structures are present depending on the species and their kingdom, for example
mammals tend to have pelvic bones and fish do not. Homology Between the Hominids and Various
Species on Pandora Much homology exists between the hominid species of Pandora and the other
species, such as the fact that the hominids have four fingers and toes on each hand and foot, and the
thanator species has four finger like claws on each foot. This even number of phalanges between both
species must be beneficial to both of them in some way, enough so that it has become a heritable trait
that was chosen by the environment through the process of natural

Composer, Igor Fyodorvich Stravinsky
Neoclassicism taken literally is new classical which can be understood as a return to the classical
style. The neoclassical idea of returning to the classics in a new style is one that moved through
several art forms starting from the scholastic community in the mid 18th century. The essence of
neoclassical was that it brought many scholars and artists back to Grecian classics which came to be
part of their classics. Music was one of the last art forms touched by the neoclassicism idea, and even
then it only occurred several decades into the 19th century. Of all the neoclassical composers, Igor
Fyodorvich Stravinsky is the one that is the most well known in the music world for his contributions
to the creation of the style. Stravinsky s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rimsky Korsakov took an interest in the young Stravinsky and ended up teaching him privately in his
home. Having Nikolai as a teacher was beneficial to Stravinsky s as it helped impart to him the idea
and workings of Korsakov s Russian classic style on an intimate level. It must be said that Nikolai was
a well known Russian composer of his time who had worked alongside Mily Balakirev, Cesar Cui,
Modest Mussorgsky, and Alexander Borodin to establish The Balakirev Circle where they worked to
create Russian Classical Music genre. One of the key points of the Russian Classical style was that it
heavily used village songs as part of their work to enrich their Russian Classical music style.
Korsakov s influence on Stravinsky is heavily reflected in his first major work titled Symphony in E
Flat which he dedicated to his teacher. The symphony itself has many major ideas of his teacher
Russian classic style such as the first movement being in a sonata form, as well as the second
movement and finale which pays homage to Russian folk songs. This symphony with its Russian
classical characteristics is the first glimpse of Stravinsky s ability to take on a new style and produce a
musical work that showcased the essence of the particular style. Stravinsky s chance to work at a new
style came after his second major work, the Scherzo Fantastique. Sergei

Daniel Story Erika Quotes
In the book Daniel Story, by Carol Matas, the character Erika is admirable because she is creative,
determined and above all she is brave. Erika is someone I would look up to. She goes through a lot,
she still survives the Nazi s, but dies from illness. Erika is creative because she makes her own music.
In Lodz she had her own violin and played her music in their apartment, untill the Nazi s took it away
from her. Another reason Erika is creative is because she came up with her own speech in Lodz. The
speech was very inspiring and even made Daniel, Erika s brother, and Rosa, Erika s best friend,
speechless. The speech read I m ashamed of you, too. Don t you see? This is the way Nazis think.

find their way onto the guestroom floors, and then utilize the amenities offered to them such as the
fitness center, pool, and the pantries located in each lobby. But throughout the hotel there are design
pros and cons that will have an impact on the overall experience of both Hampton Inn and Homewood

Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests have the option to utilize the shared public space available
on the second floor this includes the fitness center, the pool, two meeting rooms and a board room. For
all aspects of their experience in this hotel, the Hampton Inn and the Homewood Suites guest only
expects to interact with their respective brand. This also applies to the shared public space between
both brands, so the second floor cannot feel separated to the guest. But the amenities on this floor are
arranged well enough so Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests have access to every amenity on
this floor. The corridor in front of the meeting rooms connects guests to the entire floor and allows
them to simultaneously share public space.
Cons
A guest entering the Hampton Inn from the New York Avenue entrance will reach the front desk area
and also come upon the second vestibule entrance from the parking courtyard. Since there is a small
area between the vestibule and front desk, this will become a bottleneck for the lobby; guests will be
clustered here waiting to check in. This area is also in front of the only path leading to the elevator
lobby, so the guests waiting for check in will obstruct other guests who are coming back from the
pantry area or from the outside of the hotel and are trying to reach the guestroom

Essay on The Oxbow
The Oxbow, Thomas Cole
ART 101
Thomas Cole uses an implied line to separate the dark, untouched forest and dark sky with the
tranquil, cultivated farmland below. Cole uses an actual line to outline the banks of the Connecticut
River bending through the pastoral land. Actual lines are also used to define the edge of the horizon in
the distance. He also used actual lines to portray the rows of manicured farmland. The first geometric
shape I could make out is the triangle of the tiny easel in the middle ground. Other geometric shapes
include the outlines of the pastures and fields. You see very angular boundaries and rows of plowed
fields. There are plenty of organic shapes as well. Most notably of course is the shape of the ... Show

The actual light doesn t appear to have an effect on this paining. However, implied light does. Cole
uses chiaroscuro to create the illusion of the ominous nature of the forest and the dark clouds, the
impression of heavy rain clouds. Cole uses a strong value contrast between the natural forest and the
serine river valley. Light as a medium seems to me defined as actual light, which I do not believe is
used in two dimensional works.
I believe color, and in part lack of, is very important to this masterpiece. Cole colors the river valley
light green and light brown to show vibrancy and cultivation of the cleared fields. He colors the forest
dark green and eliminates colors in the shattered tree trunks and rugged cliffs to show the natural
wonder of the untouched forest. These differences in color show how man is destroying the natural
wilderness in favor of agricultural advancement.
I believe Cole purposely avoided the appearance of unity in this painting. The separation between the
two landscapes was not a peaceful transition. He wanted to show the diversity between the natural
land from the cultivated land.
I believe this painting is intentionally asymmetrical. Again, Cole wanted to show the non peaceful
transition between the two landscapes.

National Environmental Policy Act ( Nepa )
In the United States, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was enacted on January 1, 1970 and
Environmental Protection Agency began operation December 2, 1970. In many developed countries,
since 1960s growing awareness about the side effects of unrestricted development and
industrialisation had pressured policy makers to establish environmental policies and agencies. During
that period, the policies were designed to focus on prompt and remedial action plans rather than
prevention tools. As a result, Command and Control (CAC) approach became the dominant tool which
is comprised of setting environmental standards (command) and penalising non complied actions
(control).
The experience with CAC during 70s and 80s suggests that the regulatory policies in practice cost far
greater than expected. Since CAC has been introduced by many countries, economists focused on the
economic evaluation of the approach in terms of its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Some studies
suggest that the environmental standards mandated by governments are hard to be set at an efficient
level because of legislative constraints, imperfect information, regional differences and non uniformity
of pollutants. Another issue with CAC is associated with enforcement problems such as costs of
monitoring and administration.
For the reasons mentioned above, new approach has been recommended by many economists. The
new policy is called Economic Instrument (EI) which provides incentives to companies or

one of the main concerns in the film because the Amistad Africans were slaves, gathered illegally, and
that brought forth another issue: the disagreement on which group of people owned the slaves, Spain,

The Pros and Cons of Globalization Essays
Nowadays people have become closer than before. Services and goods produced in a country will be

It is the process that has led to the diverse parts of the globe becoming much closer to each other

factor to encourage the spread of globalisation.
Globalisation has given us some great advantages throughout our lives. At the same time,
globalisation has created some disadvantages. As a result of the increase and the speed of economic
globalisation, it became easier to cross a border which has resulted in organized crime. For example
the international mafia gangs have taken advantage of the chaos and turmoil in some parts of the

In a time when the British won a war against the Native Americans and the French, to the first
political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans, there were rebellions. It is in this context
that changes can be found between the March of the Paxton Boys, Shays Rebellion, and the Whiskey
Rebellion. Violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 changed significantly in terms of reasons
behind the desire for violent protest and the result that occurred because of the rebellion. Admittedly,
one significant continuity was the continued rebellion of the common people against the elite. In all

Financial Literacy
For a majority of young adults, college is the beginning of financial independence. It leads to a greater
responsibility for students to make sound financial decisions. Young adults are faced with many new
financial challenges that require a high level of responsibility (Lyons et. al, 2006). Once at college,
many students are confronted with financial challenges such as: paying rent, writing checks, and
taking out loans for the first time.
If used responsibly, credit cards can work in favor of students. They can establish a credit history and
practice good financial habits. A study completed by Cliff Robb in 2011 examined the relationship
between financial knowledge and credit card behavior of college students. Approximately 80% of

Lyons et al. (2006) determined that the majority of college students (76.7%) indicated that they had
gone to their parents for financial information. A study completed in 2010 by Bryce Jorgensen and
Jyoti Slava tested the perceived parental influence on the education of the financial literacy of college
students. This study found that parental income had a significant influence on the perceived parental
influence of financial knowledge on students (Jorgensen and Savla, 2010). Parents earning higher
incomes had their children perceive a greater amount of influence that they had on their financial
literacy, and the more positive that their children s financial attitudes and behaviors tended to be
(Jorgensen and Savla, 2010).The study also indicated that students who reported learning about
finance explicitly from their parents had better financial attitudes and behaviors, yet lower financial
knowledge than students who reported learning only implicitly about finances from their parents
(Jorgensen and Savla, 2010). These findings were attributed to the fact that parents with higher
incomes have a greater number of opportunities to interact with their children in a diverse financial
transactions than parents with lower incomes, such as buying a car or renting a college apartment.
(Jorgensen and Savla, 2010). A separate study showed that high school and college students who
observed their parents in financial experiences, such as observing the saving habits of their parents,

Emerson And Individuality
How does Emerson define individuality in paragraph one of Self Reliance? In the first paragraph of
Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he defines his individuality by interpreting the true meaning
of emotions and perspectives of other writers and the importance of being authentic. Emerson also
discourages following behind other writers in their perspectives and encourages people to develop
their own opinions. Throughout the first paragraph, Emerson speaks of the sentiment of feelings and
the impact it as on its readers and the importance of speaking your own thoughts and words. Emerson
tells us that we are to speak our latest conviction, and then we will be socially understood and
respected. In the writings, Emerson also encourages people to pay more attention to their self, and one

reader a sense of imagery describing the brief moment when a thought comes to mind and he tells the
reader to focus more on themselves rather than the thoughts and feelings of other poets and wise men.
Emerson begins to downplay the character [man] by saying he dismisses everything that comes to
mind, treating himself as unworthy, and disregarding all emotions and thoughts of himself as if they

STEM Education in the United States Essay
Science education has been a controversial topic among employers and schools for years. Employers
are requesting more STEM graduates yet the schools are unable to keep up with the rising demand.
Unemployment rates continue to go up while positions in the science, technology, and engineering
fields have remained open and unfulfilled. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)
education is vital to the position of the United States in the world standings in STEM research and
design. Currently 3 of the 5 top positions in STEM research are held by Asian countries and sadly the

If we hope to continue in the direction that we are going, it is imperative that we increase interest in
STEM fields. The best way to increase the amount of STEM graduates is to increase STEM interest in
school aged children. Some states have more successfully integrated STEM into their education
system through the introduction of magnet schools and other specialized programs. These schools
have helped increase interest in STEM education by exposing students very specific components of
the fields. Some ways that they achieve this is by introducing specialized courses like aquatic science
and robotics. Robotics is one of the most commonly introduced classes in the 6th 12th grades and is
responsible for a large increase in STEM interest. (Waters) Students report that their favorite part of
robotics is the hands on nature of the class. This teaching method has since been applied to other non
robotics classes resulting in higher class participation and attentiveness. AUVIS foundation helps
schools start up robotics programs and reports that schools with robotics programs that expand on the
AUVIS teaching method have also increased their performance on standardized tests. Robotics has
further helped foster STEM education through the introduction of national robotics competitions.
These competitions are beneficial to the children because it

In the early 1920s, the first radio stations were established by radio equipment manufacturers and
retailers who offered programs in order to sell more radios to consumers. As time passed, many non
profit organizations followed suit in setting up their own radio stations, and included: schools, clubs
and civic groups. When the practice of sponsoring programs was popularized, each individual radio
program was usually sponsored by a single business in exchange for a brief mention of the business
name at the beginning and end of the sponsored shows. However, radio station owners soon realised
they could earn more money by selling sponsorship rights in small time allocations to multiple
businesses throughout their radio station s broadcasts, rather than selling the sponsorship rights to
single businesses per show.
This practice was carried over to commercial television in the late 1940s and early 1950s. A fierce
battle was fought between those seeking to commercialize the radio and people who argued that the
radio spectrum should be considered a part of the commons to be used only non commercially and for
the public good. The United Kingdom pursued a public funding model

Over the last 20 years, there has been a substantial increase in these advances to reduce the chances of

The Presentation of Nature in Robert Frost s Poetry Essay
The Presentation of Nature in Robert Frost s Poetry
Many of Robert Frost s poems contain the vital ingredient of nature . Frost uses nature as a metaphor,
primarily, in his poems to express the intentions of his poems. He uses nature as a background
metaphor in which he usually begins a poem with an observation of something in nature and then
moves towards a connection to some human situation. He uses rural landscapes, homely farmers and
the natural world to illustrate this human psychological struggle with everyday situations that we seem
to experience.
Frost uses blank verse in The Wood Pile by using an iambic pentameter. This is very typical of Frost in
his nature poetry. We get this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker does not know which road to take; neither of the roads is less travelled by. He has to
make a decision and at the end of the day, the nature of the decision is that there is no Right path, just
a chosen path and the other path as show in The Road Not Taken .
The Wood Pile is appealing, but the point Frost is trying to make could be perhaps speaking of human
effort and what it comes to or hinting at despair. But the last two lines are warming and carves itself
into the poem permanently, perhaps ending the poem with a sense of hope, in that the wood decays,
generating heat, which makes it have some uses, even though it has been abandoned and left to rot, yet
it is a hopeless task all the same. In The Wood Pile , there was hard snow , which held the speaker
back from going any further, but the speaker persists on, but to only get lost. This leads the speaker to
the woodpile to a revelation of human effort, despair and decay, here is an example where Frost uses
nature as a barrier in his poems, but in a worthwhile way.
Another example of this is in the poem, Mending Wall . We have two men meeting only in terms of
civility and neighbourliness to build a barrier between them. They do so out of habit and tradition. Yet

Importance Of Mise En Scene And Cinematography
introduction: in this essay, I will demonstrate the significance of understanding cinematography and
mise en scene as a filmmaker and a spectator. without the ability of reading or understanding mise en

the visual storytelling the filmmaker is trying to attempt furthermore it would be even more difficult
for the filmmaker to create a visual storytelling without at least knowing the power of mise en scene
and cinematography. in mise en scene, we could start by looking at semiotics, thus, we could examine
anything we do around us and in movies. one could not fully understand a movie and filmmaker

History of Modern Computing
Computer has been an important gadget in many peoples life. Computers come in various design, size
and types. For example, there are computers that needs to be placed on the desk or on a flat surface
like the desktop computer and the laptops. Where else we have the computers that can be carried along
with us like the mobile phones and tablets. Computers are so important that it is used to communicate
by billions of people. For example people use computer for far distance communication like sending
emails to friend and workmates or talking to family members at any time without restriction and this is
really convenient. Computers are also used for working purpose like the consumer using it for
business, employees to employers as well as customers. (Gary B.Shelly 2011). Computers are also
used for education in schools, library, and at homes as well by students, adults and kids. Computer is a
very helpful medium to learn knowledge and information. In this 21st century, nothing works without
the basic knowledge in computer for example a small shop uses computer to keep the records of thing
that they have sold and even a road site food stall uses the calculator which is also a computer to count
the price. Compare to the past era children used to play out door games but in recent era children
prefer to play indoor with their computers. Today I will be writing about the modern history of

The Negative Consequences Of Stereotyping
Stereotyping is to treat or classify a person, place, or thing according to a mental idea or conception.
This concept has been inherited every generation throughout life. Everyone knows right from wrong,
but when stereotyping comes into play, it s acceptable. Stereotyping negatively affects the lives of
those who judge along with those who are judged. Within a couple readings and videos portraying
stereotypes, I have begun to realize why people continue to assort things into groups. My outcome is
that people judge directly off what they see, then they begin to understand the truth to it.
To begin with, the reason we continue to use stereotypes are to make one feel better about themselves.
One person s thoughts has the power to influence anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the film Crash, a newbie cop who meant no harm towards black people or anyone in
general ends up killing one in cold blood. This occurred because of his experiences with his partner
who illegally treated civilians without respect only because of the color of their skin. Due to his acts,
the new cop, off patrol, shot a black hitchhiker when pulling out a christian figurine from his pocket
thinking it was a firearm. Stereotyping is mainly influential. Imagine growing up without hearing
certain people are bad or stink or are smart even. Stereotypes aren t always bad, but they still criticize
all aspects of people. Influential judgement continues thus, giving a nickname to all walks of life. The
film Crash shows that most forms of stereotypes are based upon discrimination among diverse races.
To sum up, diversity plays a big role within stereotyping. If one does not look, talk, or walk like the
rest, they are poorly judged and treated without morality. Furthermore, prejudism has caused much
distrust in all neighborhoods in the world as we can see from the above authors and the film, Crash.
Stereotyping has formed many other types of inequal prejudism amongst all ages that are very difficult
to take back. From this, many mishaps have occurred from judging, however we still go through life

they should go to the hospital. He also told us that asthma attacks are very obvious when they come

[cannot] go near. Is the reason for this description because humans do not want to acknowledge the
darkness lurking within? William Golding reveals what is inside that black box and exposes the reality
of the human condition through his novel, Lord of the Flies. The novel shows how the suppression of
evil becomes a difficult task without the presence of rules or punishments. As well, how fears and
temptations of one could possibly cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By placing blame on someone else they will benefit at the expense of another, which is considered evil
since the other will suffer the consequences while the one at fault does not. Raj Raghunathan, who has
a Ph.D., explained that there are two main reasons why one would blame others: either because it
makes one feel more confident...or because it makes one appear superior to the other person. Humans
do not want to acknowledge or take responsibility for their mistakes. By placing their faults on
someone else, they feel less guilt and feel they have power over another. In the novel Lord of the
Flies, Jack and his tribe believe that [the beast] came disguised [and that] he may come again even
though [they] gave him the head of [their] kill to eat (Golding 177). They blame the beast for Simon s
death, since the beast is supposedly using Simon as a disguise. Jack and his tribe know they are at
complete fault for his death, yet do not want to acknowledge or be responsible for their actions. They
believe that blaming the creature on the island will prove their innocence of the situation.
Furthermore, in the novel, Piggy comforts Ralph by stating that it was an accident, ... that s what is
was. An accident. His voice shrilled again. Coming in the dark he had no business crawling like that
out of the dark. He was batty. He asked for it (Golding 173). Ralph and Piggy do not blame
themselves for taking part in killing Simon because acknowledging their wrong would mean they
would have to accept the fact that they are no longer superior to Jack and his tribe. Ralph and Piggy
use blaming as a defense mechanism, allowing them to eliminate their guilt and for them to continue
to believe they are still good within, not evil. To sum up, the act of deflecting the blame off one s self
so that one is not held responsible and to also rid of their guilt to remain superior, is where the evil

Ingathering because of it marking the end of the harvest, which made it a time of rejoicing. The Feast

40 years spent in the wilderness, the journey and deliverance from slavery to the promised land, and to
remind people that we are only pilgrims on the earth. The feast served also as a time to remember God
s direction in the wilderness wanderings. Finally, it served as a time to remember the protection God

My Day At The Fair
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are the best parents in the world! I said. You re welcome
sweetie. said my mom and dad. When I found out that I was riding at the Goodells 4 H Fair, I freaked
out! It was my second year at Fair. I did a class called Horseless Horse the year before because you
have to be 9 to ride and I was only 8 years old and called a participant. But that s okay I still got to
work with horses and that s all that mattered to me. Now back to the main story. The only thing that
we didn t have was a horse. We searched everywhere and couldn t find anything that was right for me.
Then one day at school I got a note from one of my best friends Kylie Guyette who owns two horses.
The note said you can use Paris at the Fair. Now, I was pumped! I kept reading you can use my saddle
at Fair too but don t tell your mom, let my mom tell your mom! So exactly when I walked into my
house, I told my mom. She said she would talk to her or let her tell my mom. But after that she said i
can tell my mom. So I guess now all I could do was wait. But that was going to be hard. A couple days
later they were talking about it and they said at the meeting that I could do some showmanship with
the horse and see how it worked. A couple days later my parents told me that I was leasing Paris. I was
so happy now that I was riding Paris and Kylie G. was riding Mattie and our other friend Kylie W. was
riding Lucky. Mostly everybody in my 4 H Club had a horse

Dulce Et Decorum Est And Jessie Pope s
The poems Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen and Who s for the Game? by Jessie Pope are
direct antitheses of each other, such that their views about war, the chosen literary schemes, and the
effects on the readers are exact opposites in each view. Who s for the Game? is a strong pro war poem
with a simplistic rhyme scheme, basic meaning, shallow imagery, and is intended to provoke and
challenge young men into joining the war. Conversely, Dulce et Decorum Est is an anti war poem with
a relatively more complicated rhyme scheme, complex meaning, deep imagery, and is intended to
discourage those who write such propaganda as Who s for the Game? . The authors of these poems
have polar opposite views on the topic of war, and of fighting for one s country. Jessie Pope is pro
war, and her poem can be reduced down to provoking propaganda with the intent of encouraging
young men into joining the war. Wilfred Owen, a soldier, is anti war, and his poem is a direct message
that Fighting and dying for one s country is not sweet or right, it s an ancient lie. Although both of
them are notable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, the first three stanzas of Dulce et Decorum Est were used to introduce the background
information that was needed to make the punch in the mouth message hit as hard as necessary. Since
the poem is a direct response to Who s for the Game? it seems appropriate that it would be opposite, in
being indirect to contrast how direct Who s for the Game? with its immediate statement of its message
and intent. Who s for the Game? . The first two lines of Who s for the game are as follows: Who s for
the game, the biggest that s played / The red crashing game of a fight? (Pope, lines 1 2) Here, Pope has
literally stated the ever so important title of her poem as well as the main message and purpose of the

Restitution As A Means Of Reconciling Offender
Restitution as a means of rehabilitating offenders tries to give the offenders a better understanding of
what they have done, and the effects they have caused due to their actions. Punishing them with jail
time does not seem to be enough to get offenders to understand the magnitude of their crime. If they
have the ability to pay back the victims it will give them a sense of accomplishment and will allow
them to feel as if they are doing good and correcting their mistakes. Restitution as a means of
reconciling offender and their victims give the ideology that if they fully paid the person they hurt that
they can both put their anger behind them and move on from what had happened. Restitution as a
means of punishing the offenders means that

Essay On A Walker
The next morning, Charlie woke to a warm body pressed against her back and an arm draped across
her waist rubbing her wrist. Bass?
Morning, he answered softly, his warm breath brushing across the bare skin of her shoulder. Your
wrist looks fine this morning. Not a hint of green to be found.
That s good, Charlie whispered in return, trying to control her breathing. How s your head?
It still aches a bit, but It appears as if I ll make a full recovery. Apparently not as fast as you though.
Charlie held her breath for a moment before rolling over, lifting her hand to his face. It must be awful

Whatever happened yesterday has to do with him, doesn t it? Charlie answered matter of factly as she
let him help her out of bed and on with her robe.
Join us for lunch, Bass suggested, taking Charlie s hand in his own, effectively breaking the tension
between Uncle and niece.
That s not happening, Miles mumbled as he turned towards the door.
I don t know, your idea of a good time is to get me run over! She called after them, a grin plastered on
her face as Miles growled.

gets suspicious.
Danny sighed. We ve got time for a walk before lunch.

  • 3. Tort And Contractual Liability TASK 6 Contrast liability in tort with contractual liability. Explain liability in negligence as well. Torts are considered unfair acts that result in loss, causing damage or injury to anyone else in the form of body, property, or legal rights . The reason behind this is the violation of duty that was owed as decreed by law. Tort laws are considered civil wrong and the individual who is wronged can sue in the civil court either as compensation or some form of equitable remedy to have prevented repetitive actions. When parties are bound by contracts, contractual liability also exists. This act of volunteering is generally voluntary. Companies and individuals are all applicable for Tort Laws. Law of obligations can be used as a classifier for both laws of tort and contract. Every individual is applicable for the Tort Law that has relevance to while the contract law is assumed voluntarily. Agreements result in contractual obligations. As a consequence, legal ramifications result in legal obligation. Contractual liability is an obligation assumed by any contracting party under the terms of a contract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a party does not perform an action in the way that the contract stipulated, the contractual liability is then incurred. One example is a single party contracted to rent an inflatable swimming pool for an outdoor party. If the item is not received on the correct date and time, the contract is breached and the pool company is held liable for the amount stated in the contract. But if the individual fails to make payment the company for the pool, he is responsible for the losses caused to the company by not paying for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves ... The Importance of Birds in Virginia Woolf s The Waves To emphasize her viewpoint in The Waves, Woolf employs a distinctive style. She interlocks the dramatic monologues of six characters at successive stages in their lives to tell her story; and prefaces each of the sections with a descriptive passage of sun and waves through a single day. In these passages descriptions of the sun, the sea, the plants, and the birds make implicit comparisons with the characters speeches. The actions of the birds in the descriptive passages most strikingly parallel the developing consciousness of the characters, exemplified by Susan. The birds developing singing abilities and early explorations parallel Susan s experiences in childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About to leave finishing school in Switzerland, Susan declares her hatred of the unfamiliar I hate fir trees and mountains. Anticipating her return home, she asserts, I cannot be divided, or kept apart (97) and describes the sensuous pleasures of home and country life. Further into the novel, the birds behavior corresponds to Susan s early adulthood, her prime, and her middle age. The birds sing alone, stridently . . . as if the song were urged out of them . . . as if the edge were being sharpened. They [descend] dry beaked, ruthless, abrupt (109), soar in high flights, observe, sever upon encountering a rock. Susan, hating London, comes dowdily dressed like a creature dazed by the light of a lamp (119) to Percival s farewell dinner. At this reunion she learns that Bernard, whom she loves, has become engaged. Susan thinks that something irrevocable has happened. . . . We shall never flow freely again (142). The sun rises to its full height; the birds passionate songs addressed to one ear only (149) stop; they build nests. Word arrives that Percival, who has loved Susan, has died in India. Susan, engaged to a farmer, shows momentary anger at the news. The sun no longer stands in the middle of the sky; the birds sit still and pause in their song as if glutted with sound, as if the fullness of midday had gorged them (165). Susan sees the seasons ... • 5. The Poverty Of The United States Poverty can be defined as a condition that people suffer from due to lack of economic resources. For being such a prosperous country, the United States possesses a persistent problem. The problem is the poverty rate in America and how it has become a force that continuously grows. One fact that American citizens are not aware of or do not wish to implement in their minds is that nearly 50 million people in the United States live in poverty. Amongst the 50 million people in the United States that live below the poverty line, over 5 million more were women than man. This phenomenon as to in which women experience poverty at far higher rates than men is described as feminization of poverty, a term coined by Diana Pearce in 1978 (3: Thibos). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of his main arguments was that federal welfare became so generous that it led to women preferring unwed motherhood and indolence over getting married and obtaining jobs (315: Edin and Lein). An associate professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, Kathryn Edin, teamed up with Laura Lein, a senior lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, in order to express whether the benefits of living off the welfare program in the United States actually enabled single mothers to make ends meet. Edin and Lein conducted a study by interviewing 379 single mothers in Boston, Charleston, Chicago, and San Antonio and displayed their studies in Making Ends Meet: How Single Mothers Survive on a Welfare Check . Amongst these single mothers, 214 were welfare reliant mothers and they were the people that Edin and Lein focused on in order to test the assumption of whether the welfare system was being abused or not. All 214 of these women and their 464 children relied on the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), the government income transfer program for poor families that consisted of non elders. On average these single mothers spent $213 a month on housing, $262 on food, $336 on other necessary expenses, and $64 on items that were not necessarily essential. This summed up to be a total of $876 being spent on an average family of 3.17 people. Although the money they were receiving was helping them reach their goal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Passing of Hong Kong to Mainland China Authorities Percy Craddock, British Ambassador to China, to pass on to Premier Zhao Ziyang. The letter consented to explore Chinese proposals for Hong Kong s administration. In this first breakthrough, the British found an effective method to push forward the talks with the Chinese, through communications between the top leaders. By adding a channel of communication above the negotiating table, the British found a shortcut to win Chinese concessions by directly appealing to the people who had the final say. (482 asymmetry). Finally Britain had realized that it had been taking the wrong approach to negotiating with China. With the advice from Prime Minister Lee in hand and some firsthand experience of what to expect from China Britain formulated a new diplomatic strategy for dealing with China. Britain now understood that if they pushed directly against the Chinese then they would be seen as Colonial bullies. They had learned that Hong Kong was not just a political or economic matter to China but that it was a matter of repairing their national pride. They also now understood the intricacies of Chinese bureaucracy and how to navigate it. British Foreign Secretary Howe came up with a metaphor that summed up Britain s new strategy. Hoped that it would diminish[ed] as much as possible the atmosphere of confrontation and would cultivate relations with Chinese leaders. Hong Kong was like a Ming vase an object of priceless value. • 7. Pandora Compare And Contrast Essay Another important requirement for the process of natural selection among species is having a variety of traits. The variation of traits to be selected upon by the environment allows for the changing of allele frequencies among the generations of the population. One of the main sources for genetic variation is sexual reproduction, which occurred between members of the Na vi and members of the Thanator species. Sexual reproduction among members of a species can lead to genetic mutations in the DNA, which can attribute to the variability of genes. One obvious variable trait among the hominid species of Pandora is their height. The males were typically seen to be taller in height than the females, but with each member having a different height the trait can vary among offspring. If the environment demands for taller offspring then it will naturally select for that trait among individuals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The species throughout Pandora also seem to have homologous characteristics among each other. A homologous structure is essentially an anatomical similarity between organisms of different species that are representative of variations on a structural basis and are derived from a common ancestor. Different homologous structures are present depending on the species and their kingdom, for example mammals tend to have pelvic bones and fish do not. Homology Between the Hominids and Various Species on Pandora Much homology exists between the hominid species of Pandora and the other species, such as the fact that the hominids have four fingers and toes on each hand and foot, and the thanator species has four finger like claws on each foot. This even number of phalanges between both species must be beneficial to both of them in some way, enough so that it has become a heritable trait that was chosen by the environment through the process of natural ... • 8. Composer, Igor Fyodorvich Stravinsky Neoclassicism taken literally is new classical which can be understood as a return to the classical style. The neoclassical idea of returning to the classics in a new style is one that moved through several art forms starting from the scholastic community in the mid 18th century. The essence of neoclassical was that it brought many scholars and artists back to Grecian classics which came to be part of their classics. Music was one of the last art forms touched by the neoclassicism idea, and even then it only occurred several decades into the 19th century. Of all the neoclassical composers, Igor Fyodorvich Stravinsky is the one that is the most well known in the music world for his contributions to the creation of the style. Stravinsky s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rimsky Korsakov took an interest in the young Stravinsky and ended up teaching him privately in his home. Having Nikolai as a teacher was beneficial to Stravinsky s as it helped impart to him the idea and workings of Korsakov s Russian classic style on an intimate level. It must be said that Nikolai was a well known Russian composer of his time who had worked alongside Mily Balakirev, Cesar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky, and Alexander Borodin to establish The Balakirev Circle where they worked to create Russian Classical Music genre. One of the key points of the Russian Classical style was that it heavily used village songs as part of their work to enrich their Russian Classical music style. Korsakov s influence on Stravinsky is heavily reflected in his first major work titled Symphony in E Flat which he dedicated to his teacher. The symphony itself has many major ideas of his teacher Russian classic style such as the first movement being in a sonata form, as well as the second movement and finale which pays homage to Russian folk songs. This symphony with its Russian classical characteristics is the first glimpse of Stravinsky s ability to take on a new style and produce a musical work that showcased the essence of the particular style. Stravinsky s chance to work at a new style came after his second major work, the Scherzo Fantastique. Sergei ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Lodz she had her own violin and played her music in their apartment, untill the Nazi s took it away from her. Another reason Erika is creative is because she came up with her own speech in Lodz. For all aspects of their experience in this hotel, the Hampton Inn and the Homewood Suites guest only expects to interact with their respective brand. This also applies to the shared public space between both brands, so the second floor cannot feel separated to the guest. But the amenities on this floor are arranged well enough so Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests have access to every amenity on this floor. The corridor in front of the meeting rooms connects guests to the entire floor and allows them to simultaneously share public space. Cons A guest entering the Hampton Inn from the New York Avenue entrance will reach the front desk area and also come upon the second vestibule entrance from the parking courtyard. Since there is a small area between the vestibule and front desk, this will become a bottleneck for the lobby; guests will be clustered here waiting to check in. Cole uses chiaroscuro to create the illusion of the ominous nature of the forest and the dark clouds, the impression of heavy rain clouds. Cole uses a strong value contrast between the natural forest and the serine river valley. Light as a medium seems to me defined as actual light, which I do not believe is used in two dimensional works. I believe color, and in part lack of, is very important to this masterpiece. Cole colors the river valley light green and light brown to show vibrancy and cultivation of the cleared fields. He colors the forest dark green and eliminates colors in the shattered tree trunks and rugged cliffs to show the natural wonder of the untouched forest. These differences in color show how man is destroying the natural wilderness in favor of agricultural advancement. I believe Cole purposely avoided the appearance of unity in this painting. The separation between the two landscapes was not a peaceful transition. He wanted to show the diversity between the natural land from the cultivated land. I believe this painting is intentionally asymmetrical. Again, Cole wanted to show the non peaceful transition between the two landscapes. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. National Environmental Policy Act ( Nepa ) In the United States, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was enacted on January 1, 1970 and Environmental Protection Agency began operation December 2, 1970. In many developed countries, since 1960s growing awareness about the side effects of unrestricted development and industrialisation had pressured policy makers to establish environmental policies and agencies. During that period, the policies were designed to focus on prompt and remedial action plans rather than prevention tools. As a result, Command and Control (CAC) approach became the dominant tool which is comprised of setting environmental standards (command) and penalising non complied actions (control). The experience with CAC during 70s and 80s suggests that the regulatory policies in practice cost far greater than expected. Since CAC has been introduced by many countries, economists focused on the economic evaluation of the approach in terms of its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Some studies suggest that the environmental standards mandated by governments are hard to be set at an efficient level because of legislative constraints, imperfect information, regional differences and non uniformity of pollutants. Another issue with CAC is associated with enforcement problems such as costs of monitoring and administration. For the reasons mentioned above, new approach has been recommended by many economists. The new policy is called Economic Instrument (EI) which provides incentives to companies or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ending of the film revealed that the main African character, Cinque, arrived home in Africa only to find his family was gone and was believed to be taken by illegal slave trade that ironically also kidnapped Cinque and the rest of the Amistad Africans. Throughout The Amistad s plot, the film raised many key issues America faced in the 1800 s. Slavery, an important issue, was one of the main concerns in the film because the Amistad Africans were slaves, gathered illegally, and that brought forth another issue: the disagreement on which group of people owned the slaves, Spain, the Americans who seized the ship, or if they owned themselves. Corruption was another issue that The Amistad detailed. For example, the illegal slave trade was a form of corruption in the English government. Also, another instance of corruption was Martin Van Buren using his position as the newly re elected president to keep pushing the defense team and the Amistad Africans further from reaching their goals of freedom by changing judges and making the trail go through hoops to ... But the last two lines are warming and carves itself into the poem permanently, perhaps ending the poem with a sense of hope, in that the wood decays, generating heat, which makes it have some uses, even though it has been abandoned and left to rot, yet it is a hopeless task all the same. In The Wood Pile , there was hard snow , which held the speaker back from going any further, but the speaker persists on, but to only get lost. This leads the speaker to the woodpile to a revelation of human effort, despair and decay, here is an example where Frost uses nature as a barrier in his poems, but in a worthwhile way. Another example of this is in the poem, Mending Wall . We have two men meeting only in terms of civility and neighbourliness to build a barrier between them. They do so out of habit and tradition. Yet the earth conspires against them, whether at hands of hunters or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Importance Of Mise En Scene And Cinematography introduction: in this essay, I will demonstrate the significance of understanding cinematography and mise en scene as a filmmaker and a spectator. without the ability of reading or understanding mise en scene and cinematography it would be extremely difficult for the spectators/audience to understand the visual storytelling the filmmaker is trying to attempt furthermore it would be even more difficult for the filmmaker to create a visual storytelling without at least knowing the power of mise en scene and cinematography. in mise en scene, we could start by looking at semiotics, thus, we could examine anything we do around us and in movies. one could not fully understand a movie and filmmaker insight without understanding and examine mise en scene and cinematography. In other words, mise en scene and cinematography is an effective and critically essential not only to the filmmaker but also to the spectators . We know very well we must learn to read before we can attempt to enjoy ( 157 James Monaco 1977) the film I have chosen to analyze is inception. the movie is based on a character name Cobb which he is trying to get back home to his family, the movie includes themes on subconscious and dream world(s) in this essay I have chosen a 5 minute sequence from inception which starts from () to (). in the sequence I will analyze the cinematography and try to read the signs within mise en scene and hopefully get a better understanding of the movie and the filmmaker. ... This concept has been inherited every generation throughout life. Everyone knows right from wrong, but when stereotyping comes into play, it s acceptable. Stereotyping negatively affects the lives of those who judge along with those who are judged. Within a couple readings and videos portraying stereotypes, I have begun to realize why people continue to assort things into groups. My outcome is that people judge directly off what they see, then they begin to understand the truth to it. To begin with, the reason we continue to use stereotypes are to make one feel better about themselves. One person s thoughts has the power to influence anyone ... Imagine growing up without hearing certain people are bad or stink or are smart even. Stereotypes aren t always bad, but they still criticize all aspects of people. Influential judgement continues thus, giving a nickname to all walks of life. The film Crash shows that most forms of stereotypes are based upon discrimination among diverse races. To sum up, diversity plays a big role within stereotyping. If one does not look, talk, or walk like the rest, they are poorly judged and treated without morality. Furthermore, prejudism has caused much distrust in all neighborhoods in the world as we can see from the above authors and the film, Crash. Is the reason for this description because humans do not want to acknowledge the darkness lurking within? By placing blame on someone else they will benefit at the expense of another, which is considered evil since the other will suffer the consequences while the one at fault does not. Raj Raghunathan, who has a Ph.D., explained that there are two main reasons why one would blame others: either because it makes one feel more confident...or because it makes one appear superior to the other person. Humans do not want to acknowledge or take responsibility for their mistakes. By placing their faults on someone else, they feel less guilt and feel they have power over another. In the novel Lord of the Flies, Jack and his tribe believe that [the beast] came disguised [and that] he may come again even though [they] gave him the head of [their] kill to eat (Golding 177). They blame the beast for Simon s death, since the beast is supposedly using Simon as a disguise. Jack and his tribe know they are at complete fault for his death, yet do not want to acknowledge or be responsible for their actions. They believe that blaming the creature on the island will prove their innocence of the situation. Furthermore, in the novel, Piggy comforts Ralph by stating that it was an accident, ... that s what is was. An accident. His voice shrilled again. Coming in the dark he had no business crawling like that out of the dark. He was batty. He asked for it (Golding 173). Ralph and Piggy do not blame themselves for taking part in killing Simon because acknowledging their wrong would mean they would have to accept the fact that they are no longer superior to Jack and his tribe. Ralph and Piggy use blaming as a defense mechanism, allowing them to eliminate their guilt and for them to continue to believe they are still good within, not evil.
