The Influence Of J. S. Mill On Liberty
1) J.S MILL On Liberty
Mills take On liberty is similar to Huntington s argument on clash of civilization because mills believe
that society will always have diversity. The fact that people of different belief will co exist but liberty
and freedom of an individual is vital in keeping a society oppression free. In an attempt to answer
question One section C, I will discuss J.S Mill theory On liberty for an individual and the society.
Mill believes in the individual and his freedom to exercise his rights a person so long it does not harm
others. That no one should be forced or pressured into doing things against their will and not even
society, forceful ruler ship and public opinions of other should interfere in an individual s decisions.
According Mill individual liberty is a good thing to major extent because he think it is a means to
protect citizens form illegitimate leadership. The citizens had Political liberty to serve as a watch dog
for the government in the case they abused their political power. The citizens could impeach such
leaders if they found guilty. This kind of liberty makes the political leaders active and keep them on

Their government became their servants and will have do anything people wanted. This type of
system was the direct opposite of a tyrant government , an extreme form democracy where the citizens
make all the decisions. The government becomes a puppet with no opinion. The problem with this
system is that government is also made up people (less of the population) therefore the majority
becomes oppressive to the minority . This is what happen in the modern day society where the
majority imposes their standards on

Herskovitz Short Story
Eleven million people were killed during the Holocaust. To put that in perspective, imagine waking up
and all the people in New York and Chicago combined were killed. That is how many people had lost
their lives because of what they believed in and how they looked. Racism, hatred, and bigotry toward
the Jewish, gypsy, and others caused a genocide of innocent people. The ones who survived were left
with a memory of fear and maltreatment. Very few are able to talk about what happened to this day.
Michael Herskovitz is a man who lived through the Holocaust to tell his story. Born in Botfalva,
Czechoslovakia in 1929, he grew up with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and raised by his mother and father.
Their family owned a small store and lived in the town as one of two Jewish families. Herskovitz was
told he wasn t allowed to go to school anymore and soon after German soldiers caused his family
business to close down. Not to long after, Herskovitz and his family were told to leave his home and
were transported to a ghetto named Uzhhorod. They were transported from the ghetto to a
concentration camp soon later. They were placed at Auschwitz. Here, Herskovitz was separated from
his family. His little brother and mother had been placed in a line for those who were incapable of
work, his sisters were put in the line for girls and women, his father went in the line for adults, and
Herskovitz went in the line for teenagers. Herskovitz and his father walked side by side while they

Persuasive Essay On Greyhound Racing
Good afternoon ladies and gentle today I stand before you in the aftermath of Mike Baird s decision to
ban greyhound racing in NSW. The topic has generated much debate, was the ban fair and just or was
it an overreaction and unnecessary? Baird has since reversed his original decision to ban greyhound
racing and has decided to give the industry another chance. In my opinion this was the right thing to
do. Not only is greyhound racing a multimillion dollar industry but also creates many jobs, engages
fans of all ages and is an integral part of many country towns across Australia. However it s not all
sunshine and rainbows when it comes to the industry it does have its problems including live baiting
and greyhound euthanasia.
Cameron Hallinan is a 19 year old boy from Orange who is heavily into his greyhounds and was
working with his family greyhounds before the ban was introduced enjoying every minute of it,
Cameron says that he didn t even know what the government was until Mike Baird and the NSW
government started messing with his greyhounds, once the ban was eventually reversed Cameron
describes Baird s efforts as disappointing and states that how overturning the ban was the end of living
hell for himself, this passion and dependence on the greyhound industry is riddled through rural
communities across country Australia and in Keith Wainwright s case has been carried on for
generations Keith has been going down to his local greyhound track every week for decades, the

An Essay About Eleanor Roosevelt
Do what you feel in your heart to be right for you ll be criticized anyway. You ll be damned if you do,
and damned if you don t. This quote by Eleanor Roosevelt is a phrase that she lived by her entire life.
She was a woman trying to speak up for those that did not have a voice, fearing they would be
criticized for speaking up. She continued in her selfless journey of helping others, even more so when
she became married to Franklin Roosevelt, the future president. During his time as president, Eleanor
became even more influenced in the lives of others as she helped Eleanor Roosevelt, an inspiring
woman that helped many while performing the part of First Lady, started out with a rough life but
ended it with a lasting legacy.
Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 to a proud mother, who later would be too ashamed
to even look at her. Her mother was Anna Halls Roosevelt, an outstanding beauty and figure of grace
in their society, and Eleanor was just not. She was reminded of this daily as her mother would always
call her granny meaning back then too plain. Though she never let it show, it had always affected her,
making her extremely self conscience. She would feel this way until she grew older and finally gained
confidence when she went to the Academy in London. Her father, Elliott Roosevelt, was her favorite

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Rhetorical Analysis
Dylan Wheeler Dr. Woo English 162 6 June 2015 Writer Jonathan Kozol, in the essay The Human
Cost of an Illiterate Society, suggests that the alarming rates of illiteracy in the U.S. are corroding the
fundamentals of democracy, reinforcing the structures of inequality that created the problem to begin
with. His argument draws on a range of evidence and support from multiple sources such as
philosophers and historical figures, anecdotes, and first person accounts. Kozol s purpose is to not
simply illustrate the various personal tragedies that people with underdeveloped reading skills face,
but to tell his audience that such tragedies when you add them up constitute a threat to the basic values
that maintain the nation as a whole. Kozol

Strong women are prevalent in our culture. For example, Helen Keller, was blind and deaf, but still
made an impact on our society. Other examples of strong women include Harriet Tubman and Amelia
Earhart. The book, The Odyssey, is no different; there are many strong women in this book, Circe and
the Sirens are examples of this. These women are all strong because they possess various traits, such
as Harrit Tubman s detrmantion and the Sirens beautiful voices, along with the knowledge to put them
into effect. The Sirens and Circe hold certain character traits, some of which they share, and others
they differ on. Circe is one of the strong women in this book. Circe is an immortal who can do simple

Circe changed her mind, also Ulysses wanted to return to Ithaca, his home country. Circe is not the
only strong women in The Odyssey; the Sirens are a set of sisters that are also strong in this book. The
Sirens are two sisters with beautiful voices that draw men to them. Once a man hears their voices, he
is unable escape, if he hears their voice he will be drawn to them, doing whatever it takes to get to the
island they are living on. Once a man reaches the island of the sisters, they take the bones of the men
and use then to make drums, which are a part of their music. These two sisters have the faces of young
girls, but the bodies of birds. Because the Sirens are so powerful, if any man hears their voices all the
men will be dragged to their island. To prevent this Ulysses plugs his men s ears with beeswax.
Ulysses, however keeps his own ears unplugged to be able to hear the sound going on around him,
Ulysses has his men tie him to the mast so he is unable to escape. Because of the beautiful voices he is

From 2006 2008, while I was working as a creative executive at Brightlight Pictures, I was fortunate
to develop and work on really cool films and TV series such as the half hour comedy About A Girl for
The N Network/Global. One project was a book that I loved called OLD SOULS, and is based on a
true story. The author, Tom Shroder, was an editor at the Washington Post Magazine, and as a curious
but skeptical man, convinced the acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Ian Stevenson, to allow him access on
his journey through India and Lebanon, meeting various case studies of children who could remember
and recount details about their past lives that would be completely impossible for them to know
otherwise. Over the course of the journey and his book, Tom went from skeptic to believer.
I found the material fascinating, and was so passionate about the book that I convinced Tom, via his

Io Research Paper
The Io Volcano Observer (IVO) is one mission under the New Frontiers program planned to launch on
May 29th, 2021 and reach Jupiter by 2026. Led by Alfred McEwen of the University of Arizona, it is
focused on observing one of Jupiter s satellites, Io, which has been deemed one of the best satellites
for studying tidal heating and the histories of terrestrial planets due to its active volcanic surface. The
aforementioned tidal heating is directly correlated to the habitable zones of planetary systems and,
thus, could help us better understand how a planetary system becomes habitable and which planetary
systems, aside from our own, currently are. IVO also plans to understand the interior structure of Io,

Critical Analysis of The Robot Invasion Patrick F. Nagle Delaware Technical Community College
Critical Analysis of The Robot Invasion In the article The Robot Invasion by Charles Gillis, it talks
about in the not too distant future how robotics will be a part of everyday society, how it will be used
in manufacturing and labor industry instead of people for jobs that are dirty, dangerous, and difficult.
The author argues that the world will be swarming with the robotics in the future which will change
the job industry and even how basic chores are done around the house. The world is changing as the
technology of robots are slowly taking over jobs, is not a too farfetched argument. For many years the

This automated warehouse system is said to triple distribution productivity by using robots to whip
merchandise from storage areas to the shipping bays. These robots have already taken the place of lots
of warehouse workers, but at the same time have opened the door for newer jobs that require workers
to program and interface with the robots to get the job done correctly. These robots really show how
robots will be moving into the workplaces to change how people will do jobs. As this is happening
now in the industry, it will be more commonly seen as the technology advances and cost of the robots
is more manageable for the efficiency that it provides. This article has been providing many different
types of support in the fact that robots are advancing in many ways and eventually going to be part of
everyday life. For most people that would read this article it would be very hard to really get that it is
not something that is here to frighten us but to inform us. All this support from different scientists,
engineers, and futurists is very informative in the tone to portray what will becoming of robots in the
future of the world. This type of informative tone is hard to read into as there is so much to cause

The movie The Mission takes place during the Jesuit Reduction, which was a program that set up
Jesuit missionaries to teach Christianity to the natives. It tells a story of Father Gabriel ,a Spanish
Jesuit priest, who goes on to a quest to the South America Jungle to convert the community of Guarani
Indians to Christians. The film starts off by Father Gabriel making a journey to the Guarani
community. Once, he reaches the tribe they prepare to kill him but spare his life because he plays an

Racism In America Chapter 1 Summary
In Chapter 1, Alexander provides a brief history of race and racism in America. For those readers less
familiar with the narrative of American history, this tour through slavery, Bacon s Rebellion,
Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Populism, the end of Jim Crow through Board, and the Civil Rights
Movement of the 1950s and 1960s is very instructive. Even if this narrative sounds familiar though,
what comes next is probably less so. The backlash to the Civil Rights Movement manifested itself in
the Southern Strategy and the first construction of stereotypes such as lazy welfare cheats and black
criminals. Law and order rhetoric became a popular way to stoke hostility towards blacks; it was
carried out by conservatives to win votes among poor whites.

Overfishing the World Big Fish Population
Over Fishing the World Big Fish Population
Insert your Name Here
SCI275
Axia College of University of Phoenix
The overfishing of our world s oceans is causing a depletion of some prize fish, such as tuna and
swordfish, to the point that some scientists believe that 90% of these big fish populations have been
fished out. Jeremy Jackson of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography published a study in 2001 in
which he asserts that overfishing is more destructive than toxic pollution or degrading water quality
(University of Phoenix, 2007). Dr. Daniel Pauly, Professor and Director of the University of British
Columbia s Fisheries Centre, describes it as follow on The Overfishing.org (2007) website: The big
fish, the bill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By putting this plan into practice, we will also resolve the other problems created by over fishing, as it
effects not only the depleted fish population, but also the animals for which those fish are food of
choice. Whales are turning to sea otters for food, rather than the sea lions and seals on which they
normally feed, as those populations also decline. Over fishing has also caused the use, as stated earlier,
of smaller mesh nets, increasing the amount of by catch that is caught in the nets. By catch is the
seabirds, dolphins, sea turtles, and even whales that are also caught in the net as they drag it in, and
are usually dumped back into the ocean, dead or dying. A drastic reduction in the amount of by catch
will subsequently occur with the reinstating of the larger mesh nets.
The management plan may cause fishermen to have to look into a second source of income for the
first five to ten years, as the most severe restrictions are put into place, giving the fish populations can
breed and repopulate, and a reassessment to be done by the scientific community charged with
monitoring the big fish groups. Governments might be forced to subsidize the industry for this initial
period, to help prevent illegal poaching by some fishermen who saw poaching as their only economic
alternative. Consumers would have to reduce their use of fish, and would have to pay more for the fish
they did purchase at the market during this period of

Papal Infallibility Of The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. The church is Apostolic for a variety of
reasons. Without this mark of the Church, there would be no church officials responsible for
continuing the works of Jesus Christ and the twelve Apostles. Being Apostolic allows the church to
pass authority to its leaders, and teachings on from generation to generation. The Catholic Church is
Apostolic, and many of its attributes are related or reflect this mark of the Church. The word apostolic
means of or relating to the apostles, or in some cases of or relating to the pope, because he is the
successor of Saint Peter. The Church is apostolic because it was founded by the apostles who were

Creon s Determination In Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a play by Sophocles which embellishes the rivalry between Creon who stands for the state
values and Antigone who stands for family values, the start at the end of a battle between Polyneices
and Eteocles, brothers of Antigone and Ismene. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon
new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand
disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by a woman. Contrarily, Antigone cherishes
personal conscience and love for her brother which transcends state laws irrespective of any situation
that befall her. Antigone s incredible brevity makes her deserve our admiration for her resolve and
determination, (Goheen, Robert F page 45). In this essay, I will exemplify some of the reasons as to
why Antigone really ought to have our admiration for her resolve as well as determination. In addition
to this, I will conclude by giving my views based on the entire essay.
Main discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone bewails Creon s order that anyone who attempts to mourn or bury Polyneices must be stoned
to death. Some argue that Antigone ought to be the chief protagonist. To buttress this point, they argue
that her name is used as the title of the play. However, what they fail to consider is that Sophocles
intentions in the play were to highlight Antigone and her soon to be a deadly clash with Creon hence
the fundamental title, Antigone. Analytically speaking, Creon does to be regarded Tragic hero instead
of Antigone. There is no doubt as to the ultimate nature of the work, that being tragedy. Along the play
s genre comes specific developed prerequisites and Creon is the only character in the play that
substantially fits them all, (Goheen, Robert F page

Chapter Analysis Of Tea Cake By Zora Neale
Tea Cake s beating of Janie early in chapter 17 is one of the most confusing incidents in the novel. We
read that Janie is hardly effected by this so we begin to question why. Her character finally had
developed a voice and she shows it by accepting the beating, saying that she is strong enough to
handle him and will only speak when she chooses to. In previous chapters we watched as Jody played
god, and now we see this trait in Tea Cake. The storm, however, is thought to be simple and safe by
Tea Cake, when in reality it is a force to be reckoned with. The chapter in which Tea Cake, Janie, and
Motor Boat wait out the storm is the most direct example of this conflict. Here we see humans against
god, Janie and her friends against nature. The

The Bombing Of Osama Bin Laden
The 9 11 tragedies changed the lives of the world and united our

Qaeda planned carefully in the attacks on the Unites States by sending nineteen militants over a period
of several years to keep our suspicions down. They also held their meeting all across the globe. The
planning meetings were held in Malaysia, they took flying lessons in the United States, and the leaders
of al Qaeda were in Hamburg, Germany. This is how many militants got over to the United States
undetected especially the lead hijackers Mohammed Atta who was on our watch list . He was the one
who communicated with Osama Bin Laden over e mail about when the attacks were going to take
place. This was just the preparation of what is about to come the United States way. On September 11,
2001, nineteen hijackers bordered four domestic airplanes on the East Coast. Two San Francisco
bound planes would crash into the Twin Towers. At 8:46 am American Airlines flight eleven crashed

An Analysis Of Katherine Anne Porter s The Grave
An intriguing setting is crucial to a successful story. When a book or story does not have a proper
setting the reader is going to be uninterested and unimpressed. Usually when a reader is uninterested
or unimpressed with the reading, they will put in down and not finishing reading. The goal of any
writer should be to make the reader visually picture their story or book. When a reader can visualize
the story, they tend to be entertained with the reading and finish to the end. Writers have to bring the
book to life with the details of the surrounding atmosphere. The reader wants to be able to see the
green pasture or taste the homemade apple pie just from the description. I enjoy reading and I will not
finish reading a story if the setting is not detailed. One more important aspect of a great story is
symbolism. As a reader, I m always searching to find a deeper meaning. The Grave by Katherine Anne
Porter, she does a stellar job at bringing the reader in and making them feel as if they were apart of the
story. Even though, every story or book has a setting, characters, and symbolism, it needs to be great
setting, relatable characters, and deep symbolism for the reader to interpret and also captured the
immediate attention of the reader.
When thinking of a gravesite or cemetery most people s minds automatically think dark, haunted and
scary. A cemetery does not have a reputation of being very fun to go to, it will always have a gloomy

The Internal And External Factors Of An Organization
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze the culture, the internal, and the external factors in
an organization. Our job is to examine the entirety of the organization. That would include the
structural and environmental elements that effect the operation of the business. We will also take an in
depth look at the perspectives of employees, managers, owners, and clientele. The Organization Just
Chillin Snowball and Sweet Treat Shop is a locally owned mom and pop business. The owner Jeffery
Robertson and his wife, Corey, opened this business in November 2012. Since then, it has become a
staple of the Northshore area in Mandeville. Just Chillin has grown over the past four years, in both
popularity and in size, so much that they are now in the process of opening another location. Just
Chillin is an excellent company to observe and analyze the culture and the internal and external
factors that have made this company so successful over these past few years. Cultural Analysis What
is an organizational culture? Just Chillin Snowball and Sweet Treat Shop has a strong organizational
culture which has allowed the business to prosper in the community. A strong organizational culture is
one where the employees possess shared values, principles, traditions, and ways of doing things that
influence the way organizational members act and assist to distinguish the organization from other
organizations (Mary Coutler, Stephen P. Robbins, 51). Our observations have shown, that

Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders
The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the
dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or
being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being
very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged
the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the
American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically
significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context
as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him
or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors
have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can
be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing
to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience
such as grief due to the death of a loved one. (Myers, 506) A psychologist can use The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to help determine the criteria for

Essay on The Unique Art Produced During the Renaissance
The renaissance or rebirth was a cultural awakening which spanned from the fourteenth to sixteenth
century. A growing interest in humanist traits and classical ideas heavily influenced the art during the
renaissance. A growing community of artists provided much needed competition for their profession.
The renaissance introduced many different and modern ideas but also remained obedient to classical
belief. The unique art of the renaissance spread throughout Europe. Northern European art differed
tremendously from Italian art. Art during the early renaissance time period was mostly commissioned
by wealthy and powerful families. Ruling families were accepted by the average public. These
families commissioned various and lavish artworks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This unique blending of fresh ideas and rejuvenating classical ideas defined Masaccio s artwork and
more importantly the art of the early renaissance. The high renaissance time period introduced the
world to arguably its best artists. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian ruled the
grand community of artists at the time. Da Vinci and Michelangelo further succeeded because of their
versatility. The high renaissance was marked by rival city states and a continued trend of lavish
spenders. Religious and political leaders spent great quantity of money to have their chapels, or any
setting appear better than their rivals. Michelangelo s artwork dominates over any other in the Sistine
chapel. The Sistine chapel is the ideal place of where new popes are elected. Michelangelo brought
along his love for sculpting in his paintings. There are about three hundred figures on the Sistine
Chapel s ceiling, and no two appear the same. Michelangelo s artwork has an enormous variety of
expression. Arguably Michelangelo s best painting; The Creation of Adam perfectly represents his
ideas. God is shown flying through the sky; while Adam is bound to the earth. Beneath the Lord s left
arm appears to be Eve, waiting to be born. The viewer s eye follows the entire arm motion perfectly,
which ends up pointing at Christ s child face. Michelangelo s figures differ greatly from Leonardo Da
Vinci s formal poses and gestures. Michelangelo s figures include

Essay on Gender and Music Preference
Gender and Music Preference There are so many different forms and genres of music that people
admire. Even older genres that have seemed to die out still have fans such as disco or polka. Many
researchers discuss why people favor the music that they do. This has been a popular topic in music
research considering how important music has become in everyday life. Music is played in the car, on
the internet, on cellphones, and even behind commercials on television. It is hard to imagine a world
without it. Now there are many reasons discussed about why people prefer one kind of music over
another, such as one s age. One s age could determine what music was popular when they were a kid,
or what genres they have been around to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their
listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the
reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves themes
of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age, ethnicity,
culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left out. While
some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting into the generic
stereotypes. I disagree and believe that gender does take part in the music selection one makes.
Literature Review Kelly D. Schwartz and Gregory T. Fouts created a study set out to examine the
personality characteristics and developmental issues of three different groups of adolescent music
listeners. The first group analyzed was adolescent listeners who preferred light qualities of music. The
second group was those who preferred heavy kinds of music, and the last were for those who preferred
a wide range of music. One hundred and sixty four adolescents participated in the study. The results of
this research showed that each of the three music preference groups was tended to demonstrate a
unique profile of personality and developmental issues (2001), Susan A. O Neill has researched
numerous issues related to

Since the design in the fashion industry rarely creates a new process, machine or manufactures, they
have a separate statute specifically for them for new, original and ornamental design for an article of
manufacture. Trade dress protection is addressed under the Lanham Act to defend the design and
appearance of the product as well as that of the container and all elements making up the total visual
image by which the product is presented to customers. Colors have also been addressed under the
Trade dress protection in which the United States Supreme Court has stated that the color and designs
of a product are only protected under the Lanham Act if a secondary meaning has been demonstrated.
Color and design must be associated by the customer for that particular product over time.
In 2004, the legal team decided to advance with option 4: Trademark protection. They claimed
trademark infringement, trademark dilution, as well as unfair competition and false designation.
Trademark infringement harbors a manufacturer or seller s product to include a word, slogan or
symbol. For instance, Apple is an example of a word that cannot be used in relationship with software
or computers as it will cause confusion from a consumer s perspective. Nike holds the trademark of
the slogan Just Do It that is associated with its product and McDonald s hold trademark of the golden
arches symbol. In some instances this

The San Francisco Earthquake By Jerome Clark
Rajdeep Singh
Men lost their reason at these awful moments ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). This was said
by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single sentence,
he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). The
Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire, and the
aftermath of the disaster.
The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San Francisco.
The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The
music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice was like thunder, and it
seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the earthquake to come in a
matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera House (Montagne 1). On
April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened by intense shaking. The
earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that arrived 20 seconds earlier.
It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake because of the early and
inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century. With today s modern equipment, seismologists
have estimated the earthquake to be a 7.7 to 8.3 on the Richter scale. This single quake ruptured 290
miles along California s San Andreas fault line

How Did Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor
WWII was a war in which the United States was hoping to stay out of. But that hope was shattered
when the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. THey managed to completely knock the pacific fleet right
out of the fight before it had even began. Immediately after, the U.S declared war against Japan. Then
a mass production was in effect in the states. getting America right back on its feet in the pacific.
Many battles ensued in one of the worst world wars ever seen before.
The first major keystone of the U.S defensive was the Battle of the midway. This is when the japanese
had thought that most of the U.S carriers had been destroyed. They did not expect the the U.S.S t
Yorktown to have made such a hasty repair at Pearl Harbor, This was an advantage had the U.S had
against the Japs. These faulty japanese assumptions were there downfall due to the fact that the U.S
had set up an ambush of their own. This lead to the loss of the four major japanese carriers used in the
six carrier force during the Pearl Harbor Attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Loligo Lab Report
Synopsis. The chromatophore organs of Loligo are each composed of five types of cells: a central
pigment cell; radially arranged, obliquely striated muscle fibers; neuronal pro? cesses; glial cells; and
an investment of sheath cells. Sheath cells are absent in Octopus chromatophore organs. The cycle of
expansion and retraction of a chromatophore organ may occur within the order of a second. It is clear
that the muscle fibers expand the pigment cell and spread out the pigment granules. The pigment is
contained within an unusual, filamentous, cytoplasmic compartment called the cytoelastic sacculus.
This com? partment has elastic properties.
Reflector cells and iridocytes produce structural colors even though their components are colorless.

Minoan Culture And Style
The Minoan civilization flourished in Crete. Unlike other early civilizations, Minoans accepted
equality among men and women. Women were of great importance and had authority in society, which
is evident through artifacts found of female deities and the mother goddess. Interestingly, the clothing
Minoan women wore was intricate and highly ornamented. Experts believe such elaborate clothing
was possible because of Minoan s weaving and dyeing skills and trade. Minoans used clothing mainly
for status and decoration. As civilization changed, clothing styles changed, and after political conflict,
the rich Minoan culture and style ended. However, a few style staples of Minoan dress have inspired
other clothing styles and designers. Overall, fashion is evolutionary and cyclical, and one present day
inspiration of Minoan culture can be appreciated from Mary Katrantzou s Spring Summer 2017
collection.
Mary Katrantzou was born in Athens, Greece. She has a BA in Textile Design and an MA in Fashion.
Her aesthetic caliber in designing and working with prints and embellishments have been recognized
by the industries top professionals, which has earned her multiple prestigious awards. The press even
call her the Queen of Print.
Like the Minoans, Mary Katrantzou is from the Mediterranean and incorporates a lot of print and
color into her design. She manipulates color, lines, and shape to create harmony in her collections but
with a modern twist. She refers to her

Amory Blaine s Mirrors in Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel This Side of Paradise, Amory Blaine searches for his identity by
mirroring people he admires. However, these
mirrors actually block him from finding his true self. He falls in love with women whose personalities
intrigue him; he mimics the actions of men he looks up to. Eleanor Savage and Burne Holiday serve as
prime examples of this. Until
Amory loses his pivotal mirror, Monsignor Darcy, he searches for his soul in all the wrong places.
When Monsignor Darcy dies, Amory has the spiritual epiphany he needs to reach his paradise the
knowledge of who Amory Blaine truly is. Amory appears to be a rather vacuous choice for a ... Show

Eleanor and Amory hate each other after this realization, but the hatred has a good quality in that
Amory understands that he had loved himself in Eleanor, so now what he hated was only a mirror
(218). Choosing to emulate Eleanor s dementia proved to be a bad decision along the course of Amory
s search for himself. He sees his own defunct image in this mirror, and it frightens him.
It causes him to temporarily loathe himself as well as Eleanor, but it also teaches him that he needs to
become an individual. While this idea exists in
Amory s mind, it does not strike him full force until the death of Monsignor
Darcy.
Monsignor Darcy seems to be an odd choice for a role model for Amory since Amory continually
refers to himself as a paganist (209). However, it is not surprising that Amory idolizes the Monsignor
not only because his pagan talk is superficial, but also because Beatrice held the Monsignor in the
highest regard. Amory does not mean he believes in paganism when he refers to himself as paganist;
he does not know himself well enough to know whether or not he believes in God. Rather he means he
experiences what could be called a paganism of the soul: he has no soul, therefore nothing exists for
him to, figuratively, worship, or technically, with which to worship. Amory looks up to Monsignor
Darcy because he epitomizes what Amory wishes he could be; passively he

The Importance Of Rescission And Restitution Of The Law Of...
REMEDIES
Rescission
A contract with missing required elements can be officiated void by the courts. Rescission officially
voids a contract.
In contract law, rescission has been defined as the unmaking of a contract between parties. Rescission
is the unwinding of a transaction. This is done to bring the parties, as far as possible, back to the
position in which they were before they entered into a contract. [6]
The contract between Debbie and Alan is VOID (SUPRA).
As such, the court will most likely rescind the contract and officially make it void.
Restitution
Restitution damages are money damages that are awarded to an innocent party to compensate for the
benefit that party gave. Restitution will always involve a loss to the innocent party that benefits the
other party.
Rescission and Restitution: the remedy of canceling a contract and making restitution to the parties.
The law of restitution is the law of gains based recovery. It is to be contrasted with the law of
compensation, which is the law of loss based recovery. When a court orders restitution it orders the
defendant to give up his/her gains to the claimant. When a court orders compensation it orders the
defendant to pay the claimant for his or her loss. Simply, the plaintiff will get the value of whatever
was conferred to the defendant when there was a contract. [7]
Here, the facts state that Debbie paid Alan $1,000 to purchase the stamp. Since, Debbie did not receive
consideration in return, it is

Utopian Society Today
For this project I decided to take an approach that outlines every bit of society today and transform
that into what it would be like in the new utopian world. I spent hours thinking through certain aspects
of the society contemplating pros and cons at every turn. Every aspect of this utopia had thought
behind it and in truth that is the first step to creating a utopia. Society needs to slow down and think
things through more often. The outline of my Utopia that I created is created with knowledge of
existing problems in our world. Yes, some aspects of the Utopia contain things we have never seen in
our present day, but adequate research has allowed me to make the world as realistic as possible. I

In an article written on the issues religion brings to society the author states RELIGION achieves its
highest social ministry when it has least connection with the secular institutions of society. If caught
speaking about it by another member severe punishment will follow. Religion conflict causes an
absurd amount of problems so by not openly showing your beliefs to those outside your family the
conflict should be eliminated. Religion is banned from weddings however, as the entire community
views marriages. The head priest must be an atheist as he can not show favor to any religion. He is
essentially the librarian of the religion building and is not allowed to see the faces of any people he
services. Religion has a few other limitations as you can only practice it in your free time. Nobody is
excused from work for it. Sapnis Zeme has what is called religion weeks. Two weeks off of work
where families of any religion have time to celebrate their practiced religions holidays. However, if

  • 5. Herskovitz Short Story Eleven million people were killed during the Holocaust. To put that in perspective, imagine waking up and all the people in New York and Chicago combined were killed. That is how many people had lost their lives because of what they believed in and how they looked. Racism, hatred, and bigotry toward the Jewish, gypsy, and others caused a genocide of innocent people. The ones who survived were left with a memory of fear and maltreatment. Very few are able to talk about what happened to this day. Michael Herskovitz is a man who lived through the Holocaust to tell his story. Born in Botfalva, Czechoslovakia in 1929, he grew up with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and raised by his mother and father. Their family owned a small store and lived in the town as one of two Jewish families. Herskovitz was told he wasn t allowed to go to school anymore and soon after German soldiers caused his family business to close down. Not to long after, Herskovitz and his family were told to leave his home and were transported to a ghetto named Uzhhorod. They were transported from the ghetto to a concentration camp soon later. They were placed at Auschwitz. Here, Herskovitz was separated from his family. His little brother and mother had been placed in a line for those who were incapable of work, his sisters were put in the line for girls and women, his father went in the line for adults, and Herskovitz went in the line for teenagers. • 6. Persuasive Essay On Greyhound Racing Good afternoon ladies and gentle today I stand before you in the aftermath of Mike Baird s decision to ban greyhound racing in NSW. The topic has generated much debate, was the ban fair and just or was it an overreaction and unnecessary? Baird has since reversed his original decision to ban greyhound racing and has decided to give the industry another chance. In my opinion this was the right thing to do. Not only is greyhound racing a multimillion dollar industry but also creates many jobs, engages fans of all ages and is an integral part of many country towns across Australia. However it s not all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to the industry it does have its problems including live baiting and greyhound euthanasia. Cameron Hallinan is a 19 year old boy from Orange who is heavily into his greyhounds and was working with his family greyhounds before the ban was introduced enjoying every minute of it, Cameron says that he didn t even know what the government was until Mike Baird and the NSW government started messing with his greyhounds, once the ban was eventually reversed Cameron describes Baird s efforts as disappointing and states that how overturning the ban was the end of living hell for himself, this passion and dependence on the greyhound industry is riddled through rural communities across country Australia and in Keith Wainwright s case has been carried on for generations Keith has been going down to his local greyhound track every week for decades, the ... Her mother was Anna Halls Roosevelt, an outstanding beauty and figure of grace in their society, and Eleanor was just not. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Rhetorical Analysis Dylan Wheeler Dr. Woo English 162 6 June 2015 Writer Jonathan Kozol, in the essay The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society, suggests that the alarming rates of illiteracy in the U.S. are corroding the fundamentals of democracy, reinforcing the structures of inequality that created the problem to begin with. His argument draws on a range of evidence and support from multiple sources such as philosophers and historical figures, anecdotes, and first person accounts. Led by Alfred McEwen of the University of Arizona, it is focused on observing one of Jupiter s satellites, Io, which has been deemed one of the best satellites for studying tidal heating and the histories of terrestrial planets due to its active volcanic surface. The aforementioned tidal heating is directly correlated to the habitable zones of planetary systems and, thus, could help us better understand how a planetary system becomes habitable and which planetary systems, aside from our own, currently are. These robots really show how robots will be moving into the workplaces to change how people will do jobs. • 14. Racism In America Chapter 1 Summary In Chapter 1, Alexander provides a brief history of race and racism in America. For those readers less familiar with the narrative of American history, this tour through slavery, Bacon s Rebellion, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Populism, the end of Jim Crow through Board, and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s is very instructive. Even if this narrative sounds familiar though, what comes next is probably less so. The backlash to the Civil Rights Movement manifested itself in the Southern Strategy and the first construction of stereotypes such as lazy welfare cheats and black criminals. Law and order rhetoric became a popular way to stoke hostility towards blacks; it was carried out by conservatives to win votes among poor whites. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overfishing the World Big Fish Population Over Fishing the World Big Fish Population Insert your Name Here SCI275 Axia College of University of Phoenix The overfishing of our world s oceans is causing a depletion of some prize fish, such as tuna and swordfish, to the point that some scientists believe that 90% of these big fish populations have been fished out. Jeremy Jackson of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography published a study in 2001 in which he asserts that overfishing is more destructive than toxic pollution or degrading water quality (University of Phoenix, 2007). Dr. Daniel Pauly, Professor and Director of the University of British Columbia s Fisheries Centre, describes it as follow on The Overfishing.org (2007) website: The big fish, the bill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By putting this plan into practice, we will also resolve the other problems created by over fishing, as it effects not only the depleted fish population, but also the animals for which those fish are food of choice. Whales are turning to sea otters for food, rather than the sea lions and seals on which they normally feed, as those populations also decline. Over fishing has also caused the use, as stated earlier, of smaller mesh nets, increasing the amount of by catch that is caught in the nets. By catch is the seabirds, dolphins, sea turtles, and even whales that are also caught in the net as they drag it in, and are usually dumped back into the ocean, dead or dying. A drastic reduction in the amount of by catch will subsequently occur with the reinstating of the larger mesh nets. The management plan may cause fishermen to have to look into a second source of income for the first five to ten years, as the most severe restrictions are put into place, giving the fish populations can breed and repopulate, and a reassessment to be done by the scientific community charged with monitoring the big fish groups. Governments might be forced to subsidize the industry for this initial period, to help prevent illegal poaching by some fishermen who saw poaching as their only economic alternative. Consumers would have to reduce their use of fish, and would have to pay more for the fish they did purchase at the market during this period of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Creon s Determination In Sophocles Antigone Antigone is a play by Sophocles which embellishes the rivalry between Creon who stands for the state values and Antigone who stands for family values, the start at the end of a battle between Polyneices and Eteocles, brothers of Antigone and Ismene. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by a woman. Contrarily, Antigone cherishes personal conscience and love for her brother which transcends state laws irrespective of any situation that befall her. Antigone s incredible brevity makes her deserve our admiration for her resolve and determination, (Goheen, Robert F page 45). In addition to this, I will conclude by giving my views based on the entire essay. Main discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone bewails Creon s order that anyone who attempts to mourn or bury Polyneices must be stoned to death. Some argue that Antigone ought to be the chief protagonist. To buttress this point, they argue that her name is used as the title of the play. However, what they fail to consider is that Sophocles intentions in the play were to highlight Antigone and her soon to be a deadly clash with Creon hence the fundamental title, Antigone. Analytically speaking, Creon does to be regarded Tragic hero instead of Antigone. There is no doubt as to the ultimate nature of the work, that being tragedy. In previous chapters we watched as Jody played god, and now we see this trait in Tea Cake. The storm, however, is thought to be simple and safe by Tea Cake, when in reality it is a force to be reckoned with. • 20. An Analysis Of Katherine Anne Porter s The Grave An intriguing setting is crucial to a successful story. When a book or story does not have a proper setting the reader is going to be uninterested and unimpressed. Usually when a reader is uninterested or unimpressed with the reading, they will put in down and not finishing reading. The goal of any writer should be to make the reader visually picture their story or book. When a reader can visualize the story, they tend to be entertained with the reading and finish to the end. Writers have to bring the book to life with the details of the surrounding atmosphere. The reader wants to be able to see the green pasture or taste the homemade apple pie just from the description. I enjoy reading and I will not finish reading a story if the setting is not detailed. One more important aspect of a great story is symbolism. As a reader, I m always searching to find a deeper meaning. The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter, she does a stellar job at bringing the reader in and making them feel as if they were apart of the story. Even though, every story or book has a setting, characters, and symbolism, it needs to be great setting, relatable characters, and deep symbolism for the reader to interpret and also captured the immediate attention of the reader. • 23. Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience such as grief due to the death of a loved one. Da Vinci and Michelangelo further succeeded because of their versatility. The high renaissance was marked by rival city states and a continued trend of lavish spenders. As mentioned above, I believe age, ethnicity, culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left out. This was said by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single sentence, he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire, and the aftermath of the disaster. The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San Francisco. The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice was like thunder, and it seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the earthquake to come in a matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera House (Montagne 1). On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened by intense shaking. The earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that arrived 20 seconds earlier. It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake because of the early and inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century.
