Egyptian Pyramids And The Pyramids
The Egyptian pyramids were an important aspect of the Egyptian life and culture constructed
around 2500 BCE with their geographical location being at the West bank of the River Nile. The
three pyramids on the Giza plateau were built in a span of three generations by three Pharaohs
namely Khafre, Menkaure and Khufu. These monuments are unsurpassed in terms of height and
mass with the architects of the pyramids building them in a way that they could face the setting
sun as they served as a resting place for the dead. In stead of that, each pyramid acted as a royal
mortuary which included a temple on its base and a causeway which was made out of stone
leading from the east of the plateau. These temples were used by the living to honor the... Show

The completion of the upper hemisphere of the Pantheon is connected to a hypothetical lower
hemisphere that touches the central point of the floor. This central point is referred to as the
Oculus and has an opening of about 8.3 meters wide at the top of the cupola that serves as the
only source of light for the building as shown in figure 1.1. Its basic design was devised in a way
whereby the portico had columns attached to a rotunda with a dome shape. An intermediate block
was put in between the rectilinear portico and the round rotunda to help in transition between the
two. Its walls are made from concrete that is brick faced which was witnessed in most ancient
buildings and the Roman aqua ducts. The concrete of the dome was graded into 6 layers with the
architects mixing scoria and a low density volcanic rock at the top of the dome as derived from Tod
Marder and Mark Wilson. Scholars have indicated that Egypt was a kingdom formed and united
under a single ruler in which the government was centralized thus enhancing engagement between
the political elite and the citizens. Earlier Egyptian Pharaohs had absolute power owing to the fact
that they appointed members of the royal family to prestigious positions but with time the
government positions became hereditary and most of the district

What Is Listening Skills
Opted skill: Listening skill(s)
Before we start off with the activities, we need to know what the word listening means. Harmer
(2001, p.228) viewed listening as a fundamental language skill. It provides the perfect opportunity
to hear voices other than the teacher s, enable students to acquire good speaking habits as a result
of the spoken English they absorb, and helps to improve their own pronunciation .
Learning of foreign language rely on four basic skills which can be classified into receptive and
productive skills. Listening and reading comes under receptive whereas writing and speaking
comes under productive. In language learning, out of the four skills, listening stands to be as one
of the most important skill. It is also accounted as a Cinderella skill. Environment plays ... Show

8. Be the boss:
Allow your child to be the boss while you play together for a set amount of time. Your child will
tell you what to play and how to play. This is excellent to help you understand how your child
views your parenting instruction, and it gives you an opportunity to model listening for your child.
9. Listen and act:
Put some animal toys in front of the child. Narrate some basic instructions about animal characters
and what they are doing. Have your child listen and move the characters along to the story. 10. Put

The Road In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The name of this book written by Cormac McCarthy, the Road, can always drive the readers into a
misunderstanding that it is a Road style work. However, it is actually a apocalyptic story which
includes bunch of description and discussion about belief, morality and the human nature. It
actually presents how people will act under a extreme terrible situation when the civilizationtotally
does not exist. Actually McCarthy is not the only one who uses a lawless environment to analysis
the humanity. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is also a story which puts the characters in a
raw environment and presents their action. These two works have the similarities in the way they
set up the stories, the type of conflicts and the way they end the stories; and this similarities
actually show how the things described in the stories are commonly deemed, and help the two
stories to support each other s ideas. Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based
story. However, even though the missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make
similar settings for the story. In the Road, the characters are in the environment where the
resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord of the Flies, the characters are in an island where
is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful that how McCathy is sure his description
under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but what is described in Lord of the Flies
can confirm it. More

Christian Worldview Purpose

Professor Andre Mooney
The purpose of the Christian worldview is to guide one how God wanted us to live our lives. It
starts from the very beginning of creation to the world we currently live in today. Christians have
faith in Christ. Christians truth about God is believed to be First, God created the world good
indeed, the creation, especially man who is its crown, actually manifests God s goodness and that
all creation is fallen through original sin (Echeyerria, 2007). This is what makes prophecy an
integral part of Christianity.

Jesus was the son of God, who was created by God and the second person within the trinity. God
is viewed as the father, the son, and the holy spirit, according to the Christian worldview. Jesus
was created from God planting a seed in Virgin Mary. Jesus was thus born to spread the word
about God and all the gospel. Jesus lived a life as a human as all of us do now. He experienced a
lot of things we as human s experience. Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins where he died on the
cross. Jesus is important to the Christian worldview because he is the ultimate reason we are who
we are today. God is both holy and just, so although he created humanity to be immortal, he could
not accept them into his holy kingdom in their sinful state (Lecture 5). After Jesus sacrificed
himself on the cross, this served as redemption and it was then that god allowed them into the

Identity In Alice s Adventures In Wonderland
Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland creates a warped reality, causing each
character s identity to become confused. An exception to this confusion of identity is the
Cheshire Cat, who shows an uncanny awareness of his own madness, giving him considerable
control over his presence and allowing him to occasionally leave only a grin behind. Alice,
contrarily, is strewn all over as she loses herself in Wonderland. In Wonderland, all are mad, but to
Alice this is preposterous, even as she fails to explain who she is both to herself and to others.
Carroll s juxtaposition of the Cheshire Catand Alice in their first meeting scene exaggerates Alice s
insecure identity and its development throughout her adventures in Wonderland. In Alice s
Adventures, Alice falls down a rabbit hole for what seems like forever, while bits and pieces of her
identity remain trapped at the entrance. After this fall,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alice begins by startling at the sight of the Cat sitting on a tree bough, while the Cat only grins
at Alice. As dear Alice asks for advice on which way she ought to continue, the Cat claims, if you
do not know where you want to end up, then surely it does not matter which way you go (Carroll
49). This simplistic view of decision making plays on the complexity that humans weave into
simple decisions of everyday life. Alice s confusion is spotlighted by this overtly simple take on
decisions, and her confusion can then be tied to the absence of a concrete identity. The Cat
proceeds to reveal that in Wonderland, we re all mad here. I m mad. You re mad, and this
awareness and acceptance of the fury within himself further serves to bold Alice s insecurity
(Carroll 49). Perhaps, if Alice knew who she was to others and to herself in Wonderland, she would
not deny the madness of Wonderlands creatures, including

Promised Land Film Analysis
The movie Promised Land addresses many issues of deception and bribery in environmentalism
from natural gas companies. The movie starts out with Matt Damon s character, Steve Butler, and
Frances McDormand s character, Sue Thomason are salespeople for a natural gas company and
go to small towns like the ones that Butler was born in, in order to sell natural gas which can in
turn possibly help save these towns. However, an environmentalist, Dustin Noble played by John
Krasinski, shows up in order to convince the town not to get the natural gas pumps. A few people
such as the high school teacher are not convinced that natural gas is the solution to help the small
town. Due to Dustin Noble being there, this small town is not just a clean sweep... Show more

Southwestern Energy Production Company, Pennsylvania Superior Court opened the doors to
trespass laws against fracking and natural gas companies. Southwestern Energy Production
Company put wells in the land adjacent to the Briggs siblings land but when the wells were
placed in the ground they were going into the Briggs property. The company has allegedly been
extracting natural gas from the Briggs property since 2011 without their permission. The result of
the case was that now the law is that Pennsylvanian law of fracking will not apply to capturing of
natural gas from fissures that flow towards unpaid areas making it illegal to do so (Morgan
Besecker, 2018). As well, the Colorado Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of six teenager
environmental activisits. In the case, the court ruled in favor of making public health and
environment the antecedence instead of creating an harmony between natural gas and
environmentalism because they determined that this would not be effective (Paraskova, 2018).
Lastly, Dakota Access Pipeline is one more instance of where environmentalism has gone against
the big natural gas companies. The Dakota Access Pipeline is controversial due to its impact on the
environment and has been protested heavily by Native American people such as the Sioux and
Meskwaki people. Natural gas companies have been running constant television advertisement to
sway people to support them however it is not working. Natural gas companies see the resistance,
which despite the support of the current U.S. president, and continue to push against

Mercedes Vs Subaru Research Paper
Mercedes Benz CLA250 vs. Subaru WRX Premium
If you re in the market for a new entry level luxury sedan you ve probably run across the
Mercedes Benz CLA250. The Mercedes starts at $32,400, which is very cheap for a Mercedes,
and that s exactly what they want you to think. Over the years Mercedes has grown to be a
respected German car company making very pricy luxury cars. They all come with extremely
fancy heated and cooled massaging seats, top of the line audio systems and attention to detail
that will blow your mind away. This all comes with a price tag, you must be making a lot of
money because after you buy a Mercedes you better have money laying around, because when a

car but it does have better fuel economy. Front wheel drive handles awful and is horrible in the
winter. The Mercedes also comes with a sluggish 7 speed automatic. The gear changes are very
slow and make the car even less fun to drive. On the Subaru you have two options. You have the
option between a 6 speed manual or an automatic CVT transmission. If you have a brain you ll
buy this car with the 6 speed manual. I believe every car should have a manual option as it is the
best way to drive a car. It s more involving and makes you pay more attention to the road. Plus
you can t text and drive or any other distracting weird thing people do while driving. In all when
you look at these cars they are very similar but when you look a little deeper you can tell Mercedes
is pulling the classic rip off I still give Mercedes kudos for their other cars, but this one just doesn
t seem worth it to me. It s not a total rip off it s just you re gonna have to pay extra to get a car
with a Mercedes badge on it. I think it s really stupid and a waste of money but if you re a fan of
overpriced European cars then the Mercedes is the perfect option. The Subaru obviously comes out
on top in this one with more features and a starting price way cheaper than the

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Symbols In The Masque Of The...
No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. (446). The Masque of the Red Death by
Edgar Allan Poe is about a devastating plague that is going around a country. Edgar Allan Poe is
one of the many gothic literature writers. He loves to write about insanity, murder, and the evil
within humans and the human mind. Poe s short story has a lot of symbolism and it all leads to
the theme that no one can escape death. Poe uses a lot of symbolism in this story. The author uses
different rooms and colors to represent the stages of life. That at the eastern extremity was hung for
example in blue and vividly blue were its window. The second chamber was purple in its ornaments
and tapestries ,and here the panes were purple. The third was green throughout, and so were the
casements. The fourth was furnished and lighted with orange the fifth with white the sixth with

Even the Prince couldn t escape the inevitable. The was a sharp cry and the dagger dropped
gleaming upon the sable carpet, upon which, instantly afterwards, fell prostrate in death the

the dark adventure the Prince thought he was above death, he was happy that half of the
population had fallen victim to the Red Death . Death doesn t care about social class or anything
like that, it will capture anyone it wants. At the end of the story it says that death had killed
everyone. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all. (452).
Death doesn t care if they are rich or poor, if they are beautiful or ugly. It doesn t matter because
no one is above death. Death will always win, and in this case it did. The guests thought they were

The Era Of New Technology
The 1990s was the era of new technology. This era consists of wars and a variety of inventions
coming into our world, such as The Persian Gulf War, and the Google Search Bar. This decade
was a time of all sorts of records broken and right into the history book, just like when Eilleen
Collins was the first female to become an astronaut. This is a start to something big in many years
to come.
The Persian Gulf War was one of the great wars that helped America to be what is today. This war
helped people achieve freedom and liberty in their lives. Furthermore, the United States paid for the
war and it costs the U.S. millions of dollars in debt (NAGEL, 21). The war was declared on August
20, 1990. This war was declared because of Iraq s invasion in Kuwait on August 20, 1990. Iraq s
leader, Saddam Hussein, ordered the invasion and occupation of Kuwait with the apparent aim of
acquiring that nation s large oil reserves, canceling a large debt Iraq owed Kuwait, and expanding
Iraqi power in the region (EXAMINER.COM). Persian Gulf War took place in Southwestern Asia.
The U.S benefited some things not just for them, but for other countries. People said the U.S
achieved freedom for other countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. These countries did
not possess freedom. One thing the U.S benefited from this war, was respect. Another thing the
U.S. gained during this war was allies, such as Iran. Also, the U.S. gained respect from Saudi
Arabia and Kuwait. And as

Analysis Of Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Charles Berger, a communication theorist coined the term Uncertainty Reduction Theory in 1975.
This theory discusses that when people meet one of their first concerns is to reduce uncertainty
about the other person and the situation. Berger uses eight axioms, verbal communication,
nonverbal warmth, information seeking, self disclosure, reciprocity, similarity, liking, and shared
networks to discuss the connection between these axioms and reducing uncertainty (Griffin, E.,
Ledbetter, A., Sparks G, 2015). Berger and Calabrese s (1975) Uncertainty Reduction Theoryhas
basic assumptions that when strangers meet, their primary concern is one of uncertainty
reduction or increasing predictability about the behavior of both themselves and others in the
interaction (p. 100). A video interview with Charles Berger and Em Griffin discusses
Uncertainty Reduction Theory and what it means to Berger. In the video, Berger states that the
theory deliberates the struggles that people go through in their lives to adjust to the changing
world around them. One of the main struggles people face is that uncertainty is always there,
especially in a new situation. Berger states, if we re going to act in ways that will achieve our
desired goals that is, we ll get what we want we have to be able to anticipate, to be able to predict
what the physical world is going to do and what the people in it are going to do ( A First Look... ,
2015). Because the world is changing and new experiences are

Second Hunting Weekend Narrative
My second hunting weekend was about to begin, I was pulled out of Library class at CCE and

would hunt with until the sun went down. We then fed and watered the dogs as they had been
running all day and we shot a bb gun and a .22 rifle which hit me in the eye with the scope. I was

Animal Rights And The Rights Of Animals
For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think
and feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others
think they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place
that are strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. In the United States however;
some of the animal rightslaws are considered to be useless and under enforced (Animal Legal
Historical Center). More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and
should be protected by laws and regulations (Animal Legal Historical Center). Sadly there are
many people residing in the United States who don t take animal rights or protection laws
seriously. These people abuse animals in many ways, including food industries that disobey the
regulations set in place for the slaughter of animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals
there are people who fight for their rights and the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists.
The controversy over the rights of animals continues today within the United States. There has
always been a question about the emotions of animals. Can animals feel and exhibit emotions in
the same way that humans do? Some people agree that animals do show signs of intelligence and
emotions like love and pain. After all there are bird breeds who mate with only one partner during
their lifespan giving us the impression

Non-Governmental Safety Regulations
Every person on earth needs food to survive. Hence, ensuring that the food we consume is in fact
safe to eat is one of the most fundamentally important actions that an agency, governmental, or
otherwise can take. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO, 2010), the
responsibility of ensuring safe foodproducts is a shared responsibility among government and non
government agencies. When examining the role of non governmental agencies in this important
component of the food market, one might consider their position both in terms of governmental
regulations and independent of these. The role of governments, for example, is to establish
policies for food safety by means of a system of controls to ensure that these are met. The
government, however, is not solely responsible to ensure that these safety standards are met.
Indeed, an even more direct responsibly for ensuring food safety and acceptable standards lie with
non governmental entities, including all the operators within the food chain. Even consumers play
a role in ensuring food safety standards by means of expressing concerns or requirements for the
safety of the products that they consume. In international trade, government and non government
agencies also collaborate to ensure acceptable food safety standards. The rules are imposed within
the SPS and TBT Agreements of the WTO. This means that a uniform food safety standard is
provided to ensure the safety of products for all consumers worldwide,

Essay on Theory Of Knowledge
Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of
knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate
whether or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and
consider what they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the
objectivity and empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly
based on inductive and deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive
reasoning and is presented as a distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by
verification: correspondence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a
modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by
using a combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific
hypothesis from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to
testing. The name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we
can predict that particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a
deduction from the initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is
confirmed. Confirmation of the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true
x number of times, we claim that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis
process is the part of the model that encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method
one only has access to a limited number of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed
to incorporate advantages of both types of verifications, by using inductive reasoning as
confirmation processes, it is still affected by the fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic
criticism of the original scientific model. Questions such as, Why is it legitimate to assume that
things will continue to behave as they always

gathered along his military days. Many of his stories mentioned in this chapter of the book came
from a military experience. The abutting few chapters talked about are simple, but biggest
missed concepts of being not only a great person but leader in charge. A few of the best chapters

everybody wishes to be. Another key chapter, Take care of the troops is about how to aid your

A Worn Path tells of an elderly and frail black woman and of the hardships that she must
overcome. Upon reading the story, you realize that there is more to the story than meets the eye.
She faces many roadblocks along her way. Phoenix faces many dangerous obstacles along her
way, for a person of her age. She faces racism from some of characters she meets along the way.
Phoenix faces inferior treatment, as though she is nothing more than some insect to squash. This
story is about not only her journey to Natchez, but also about her journey through society and the
struggle to overcome the dangers, being treated inferior, and the racism. It s December when

She runs the risk of having that barbwire slash though her dress and cut her back to pieces. , if
she was to get caught going under that fence, the consequences she faced could have been death.
The obstacles on the path to Natchez were dangerous and Phoenix could have suffered serious
injury. Any kind of injury suffered out in the open and alone like she was in the middle of the
winter could have resulted in death. However, it is in the end that the reader sees just how
precious her journey is and for the lover of her grandson moves Phoenix to town. It is the same
type of unfair obstacles that Phoenix must have dealt with her entire life. Yet she made it
through them all un harmed and her spirit still intact. Phoenix lived in a society where racism
was still running strong. Yet she faced and dealt with that every day of her life. As an African
American slave, she would have toil in the fields, wondering if she would still be alive by the
time the sun was setting. Phoenix is visible shaken with a run a scarecrow she believed to be a
ghost. She says to image, Ghost, she said sharply, who be you the ghost of? For I have heard of
nary death close by (Welty 24).Slave mothers would often show that same fear as they watched the
shadows return from the field; wondering if their loved ones were still alive or was going to come
home unharmed. Phoenix faced those same fears as a mother and grandmother. If Phoenix was

Pneumoniosis
Several studies that go hand and hand with Pneumoconiosis Berylliosis is uncommon, that is
affecting workers, in the aerospace, nuclear, telecommunications, semi conductor and electrical
industries. It has been recognized as a cause of occupational lung disease since the 1940s and can
cause an allergic immune response (beryllium sensitization), acute beryllium disease (similar to
acute pneumonitis) and chronic beryllium disease (a granulomatous lung disease with symptoms
similar to sarcoidosis) (Patient plus). Historically, black miners have been evident to show higher
dust levels than were white miners. Black men are employed underground in high dust occupations

Eliminating silicosis is a priority of the International Labour Organization and the World Health
Organization (Environmental health). As miners continue to age and work for longer periods,
the burden of Pneumoconiosis will continue to increase, prevalence is particularly high in
emerging countries. The crude proportion of silicosis for white miners was six times that of
black miners in 1975. By 2007, it was 1.5 times higher for black miners. The proportion of
miners with Pneumoconiosis increased from 0.03 to 0.32 for black miners and from 0.18 to
0.22 for white miners. Pneumoconiosis is also a prescribed industrial disease. Financial
compensation may be available where an individual is able to show they worked in a job for
which their disease is prescribed and that their illness is likely due to the occupational exposure
in modern times (Patient plus). The most commonly occurring variant, apart from asbestosis, is
coal worker s pneumoconiosis (CWP), arising from the inhalation of coal dust. There is
generally a long time lag between exposure and onset of the disease10 years in the case of coal
dust and 15 60 years with asbestos hence, newest cases or deaths from pneumoconiosis reflect
the working conditions of the past (Patient plus). The increase can be explained by increasing
age and employment duration for white miners. For black miners, it can be only partly
explained by these two factors (Environmental Health). Coal miner s as well as many other
minors, were defined as those who had ever been employed in the mining industry. The study
population comprised all miners who had been employed for 1 year and who died from an
external cause of death. External causes of death included those coded in the International
Classification of Diseases (WHO 1992) as injuries (e.g., as a result of mine or traffic

Saussure s And Diachronic Perspectives
SAUSSURE S
SYNCHRONIC AND DIACHRONIC PERSPECTIVES
ASSIGNMENT BY: MANASWITA CHAKRABORTY DEPT. OF LINGUISTICS MA 1st
SEMESTER ROLL NO: 34
INTRODUCTION
One of the major consequences of the arbitrary nature of sign, is the distinction made between the
synchronic and diachronic study of language by the Swiss linguist and semiotician Ferdinand De
Saussure. Regarding the debate surrounding the perspective, it has been suggested by Saussure s
critics that in trying to distinguish between these two, and in granting priority on the synchronic
nature of study over the diachronic one, he was to a great extent ignoring the historical entity of
language. Inspite of the distinction made by Saussure, he believed that both kind of facts are
intertwined. Hence it raised a paradoxical situation.
SYNCHRONIC AND DIACHRONIC STUDY OF LANGUAGES
Synchronic study of language refers to the study of the linguistic system in a particular state
without taking the time period through which it has evolved into consideration. Here the languages
are treated as self contained systems of communication at any specific time without taking it s
history into account.
In contrast to the synchronic study of languages, is the diachronic study which studies the evolution
of a linguistic system over a period of time and are treated

the Nazis took over the Netherlands and started enforcing rules limiting the jews. In 1941 Anne

The Controversial Issue Of Abortions
As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their
hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places
that are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just
looking at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many
controversial issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper. When the word Abortion
is heard, a heated argument often arises between couples, families, governments, and most
commonly throughout women s minds around the world. Over the past hundred years, the topic
of abortions has been an ongoing issue. Many people agree to this practice, while others see it as
completely absurd. In the past, present and most likely into the future, women have very little
say in deciding whether to have an abortion or to have a baby. For many women, rape is a major
issue. Without a choice, in most commonly a life or death situation, women are raped and
impregnated by the man who raped them. In cases like this, the majority of women are not
financially stable to have a child, nor are they physically or mentally prepared for the life they
have ahead. This is when the discussion of abortion comes into place and the controversial
argument begins. In Canada in 1892, parliament passed a criminal code that stated the prohibition
of abortions as well as the sale, distribution and

Violence Is The Unspoken Disease Of The World

Essay #1
Violence is the unspoken disease of the world. According to Christopher Mikton, the World Health
Organization, is a leader in the study of violence in the world (Mikton, 45). WHO states that, an
estimated 1.4 million deaths occur every year due to this disease (WHO). In Marilyn Manson s
Columbine: Whose Fault Is It? Manson elaborately explains how violence has consistently been the
social normality (Manson). Mankind has become so desensitized to violence that it is used as a
scape goat for everyday problems. Humans are unknowingly self harming by being violent in
nature. Violence no longer is no longer considered violence, it has become a source of
entertainment. Violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cycle of being behind bars, is in part due to the concentration of violence within prison walls
which reinforces criminal activity. As Dr. Kathryn McCollister, states in her paper The Cost of
Crime to Society: New Crime Specific Estimates for Policy and Program Evaluation. The cost of
housing, healthcare, and transportation of these inmates, cost the United States tax payers roughly
$194 billion in 2007 alone (McCollister). This money that is spent on taking care of and
maintaining inmates, could instead be used to better the environment which allows these inmates to
be created.
Violence is no longer considered violence, it has become a source of entertainment. Former
employee, Megan Zlock, of iStratedgy Labs, says that violence is the easiest way to develop
conflict for the narrative of a story. Violence is a proven tool for increasing sales and ratings. This
is because violence causes stress hormones to be released, creating a sense of excitement (Yenigun).
A recent study by L. Rowell Huesmann, professor at the University of Michigan, states that ...more
than 60 percent of television shows contain violence (Huesmann). Children who watch television
shows containing violence, compared to those did not, were observed to be much more aggressive
when interacting with peers. Studies have also shown that young adults who watched television
shows on a regular basis,

Population Control In Vonnegut
In 2BR02B, Vonnegut provides a fruitful, dark, and mind bending story. Vonnegut s story represents
the values of death and life when he says, [d]eath, barring accidents, was an adventure for
volunteers (Vonnegut). This reveals that there are those who consider death an adventure and not
an end. His story illustrates the toll of human nature on humanity, no matter the situation. In
particular, Vonnegut utilizes a story of population control to propel his ideas further. Furthermore,
Vonnegut employs the short story to describe the inconsistencies of population control. Ultimately
Vonnegut s illustration paints population control as a heartless act against humanity. However,

The symbolism between the Painter and the Mural is a salient contrast within Vonnegut s story.
This contrast is an intentional comparison used to highlight the ultimate behavior of humanity
amongst a form of population control as inhumane as gas chambers. The painter acts as symbolism
of humanity s rejection. The mural acts as the glorification of the control. The Painter gives off a
careless attitude and a slight rejection towards the population control in the story. In response to the
orderly s comments the painter scorns, You think I m proud of this daub? You think this is my idea
of what life really looks like (Vonnegut). This reveals the painter s attitude towards population
control. Furthermore, it solidifies the fact that the painter represents humanity s rejection. In direct
relation, of course, is the mural. The mural itself, is a representation of all the important people of
the hospital staff. Moreover, the mural acts as a glorification and acceptance of the population
control. Together, the painter is seen filling the faces of these people, simultaneously rejecting that
the mural, [l]ooks just like heaven or something (Vonnegut). What the contrast reveals in a deeper
sense is humanity (the painter) continuing to accept the inhumane population control (painting the
mural) regardless of their rejection. It worthy to note that the acceptance of population control
varies from each human being. That is

Analysis Of The Passing Of Grandison And Quentin...
Humor. Mockery. Relationship Goals. Can you consider these three things in a story about slavery?
Slavery is typically a sensitive and serious topic. In Charles W. Chesnutt s short story, The Passing
of Grandison and Quentin Tarantino s film, Django Unchained , these three components were
combined for entertainment purposes. In this essay, I will implement the comparison that both the
short storyand film shows with the three component of humor, mockery and the relationship goal
of a slave. The Passing of Grandison was humorous in many ways. The humor started the Colonel

In this story, Chesnutt changes the reader s initial perception of the characters, which was
humorous. Such as, even though Charity somewhat persuades Dick Owens to proceed in losing his
father s slave, she never believe that he would actually succeed. Dick returns home, and Charity
Lomax hilariously marries him, as she was mildly impressed her with his act. In the movie, Django
Unchained, Taratino humor comes in condemning the importance of slavery, which he makes fun
of events and groups of people that existed during the time of slavery. In the movie, there is a
white German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him
because he needed him to find some men he is looking for. What so hilarious about this was that
Dr. Schultz could have used anybody beside a slave that was on the same plantation with the
men that Django might have known, he was not even certain that Django knew of these men he
was looking for. Also, in the movie, Taratino made the scene with Django changing wardrobe to
be a hilarious part of the movie. You can say that Django went from rags to riches, after Django s
freedom Dr. Schultz offers to buy him a new suit whatever he wanted. Django selects a blue two
piece with lace cravat and knickerbockers, he assumes that s what gentlemen (a free slave) would

Sometimes, the deployed spouse has trouble getting back into the swing of things like managing
money and household routines. These phases seem to affect every family in many different
ways, positively and negatively. Throughout the deployment process, children seem to be the
most affected in the family when their loved one is about to leave them for a long period of
time. The earliest war time deployment in history was back during World War II (Lester and
Flake). This had to have been an extremely tough time for families considering how brutal this
particular war was. About 40% of children in active duty families are younger than five years
old. Out of this 40%, 14% of the children have school issues: failing, having little to no interest in
learning and their work, and problems with their teachers. More than half saw their grades fall
when one of their parents was deployed. School aged children seem to have more effects when a
parent is deployed. Studies show that the older the child, the more likely it is that they will use
drugs and consume alcohol (Lester and Flake). According to Patricia Lester and Eric Flake,
school aged children show higher levels of emotional and behavioral distress. Being in school

Athenian Vs. Athenian Society
Athens and Sparta, two rivals of ancient Greece that made the most noise and gave us the most
traditions. Though they were close together on a map, they were far apart in what they valued and
also how they lived their lives. Spartan and Athenian society were very different in many parts. The
differences are what set these two apart, and the things they shared in common are what unified
them as Greek city states. Spartaand Athens shared similarities and differences in their systems of
government, military, judgment and views of their women. In addition to this, the social gatherings
of Athenians and Spartans that were also similar and different.
Both Athens and Sparta had an Assembly, the members were elected by the people. Sparta who
was ruled by two kings, the Agiads and Eurypontids, these two kings who mainly served as
generals and high priest. Though they had no real power, they were known for their great
influences. They ruled until they died or were forced out of office.
Athens was ruled by archons, who were elected annually, severed originally for life, then they
served for ten years and eventually only served for just one year. Upon leaving office, they became
members of the council of the Areopgaus. Thus, because both parts of Athens government had
leaders who were elected, Athens is said to have been the origin of democracy, whereas Sparta was
a military oligarchy.

The Locust And The Bird My Mother s Story Analysis
All about perspective
It s all about perspective. Each one has his own point of view on life, either according to one s
culture, traditions or even political opinions. Along with these perspectives, comes the
recognition of different identities. Actually, the diversity of the Arab s identity will be shown
according to how others perceive them (using Jackals and Arabs ), how they perceive themselves
(using Hanan El Sheikh s novel: The Locust and The Bird: My Mother s Story ), and finally how
I perceive them according to what I read in Tayeb Salih s novel: Season of Migration to the North .

Clearly, the religious aspect, in their lives in the village, makes up an important part of their

every few pages or so The Koran or the act of prayer is mentioned: My father, having finished his
prayers and recitations from the Koran... (Salih, 1969, p.2). Also, they use prayer times as a
reference for their daily schedule. They even interfere religion in most of their social matters; for
example the narrator was asked about the European women and their culture: They say that the
women are unveiled and dance openly with men... , Wad Rayes also posed a question implying
that foreigners are sinners: That they don t marry but a man lives with a woman in sin? (Salih,

appear between religion and sexuality. For example, many inappropriate sexual references were
made concerning the women and their treatment as pure sex preys. Actually, while sitting with his
neighbors, Wad Rayes confessed of his will to marry so that he can enjoy sexual pleasures once

The Positive Aspects Of Bureaucracy
1.One of the positive aspects of bureaucracy that covers so many scenarios is it fosters
impartiality. The structure in bureaucracy commands responsibility by all and that structure also
provides security in many situations for those within the bureaucratic system as well as those
impacted by that system. 2.A crisis situation I m familiar with is one that has occurred at a local
middle school and a leader has immerged within a group of students. That person doesn t even
realize she is considered the leader but many of the true leaders realize it and are attempting to
use her leadership to help solve the crisis. The crisis began on the second week of school when a
number of teachers were displaced from their assignment at this particular school. This
displacement caused a lot of emotional pushback by other teachers, parents and most definitely
students. One particular student moved quickly in an attempt to rally the students to support the
displaced teachers. Though she was only able to get two other students to participate with her and
speak that night at the school board meeting, their bravery stood out to members of the school
board as well as administration within the school. The video of their moving speeches has been
shared over and over on social media. The situation did contribute to the emergence of the leader as
she was directly impacted by the displacement of teachers though it did not necessarily demand it.

The Disease Of Red Measles Or Measles
Rubeola
Rubeola, also called red measles or measles, is an acute viral disease that causes a red rash over
the body. Measles is one of the most common and most deadly communicable childhood diseases.
It is spread from one child to another through direct contact with droplets from the nose and throat.
Sometimes, it is spread through air borne droplets from an infected child. This is a very
contagious disease that usually consists of a rash, fever, and cough. The rubeola virus can live on
surfaces for hours.
The virus was first isolated in 1954 by Nobel Laureate John F. Enders and Thomas Peebles, who
were careful to point out that the isolations were made from patients who had Koplik s spots, white
spots under the tongue. The rubeola virus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symptoms of measles begin to appear about seven to fourteen days after a person is infected, but
can be as long as twenty days. Most cases start with a mild to moderate fever, cough, runny nose,
red eyes, and sore throat. About three to five days later, a red rash appears. The rash begins at the
hairline, then spreads down to the rest of the body. When the rash appears, the fever may be as high
as 103В°F to105В°F. Symptoms may last for one to two weeks. Many cases are complicated by
secondary infections caused by bacterial pathogens, mainly Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus
pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Haemophilus influenzae. These pathogens readily
invade the body because measles damages the normal body defenses. Secondary infections most
commonly cause earaches and pneumonia.
Measles can be prevented by injecting an attenuated rubeola virus vaccine. At the time of the
introduction of the vaccine in the early 1960s, there were about 400,000 cases of the disease were
being reported each year in the United States, probably representing one tenth of the actual number
of victims. The number of cases in the United States have declined to maybe just a few each year.
In 1980 the worldwide incidence of rubeola was estimated to be 100 million with 5.8 million
deaths. Globally, vaccination programs have lowered the number of cases dramatically since then,
however, the decline in incidence has not been uniform among the different regions of

The Effects of Greek Theatre on Women
Effect of Greek Theatre on Women
Theatre is the art that shaped the Hellene culture, and that is the single most influential culture that
shaped the world (Germal 57) . The people of ancient Greece, known as the people Hellenes, were
responsible for many firsts, theatre being among them. Theatre and other arts flourished in ancient
Greece between 550 BCE and 220 BCE. Its geographic influence was momentous, spanning
through parts of modern day Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Spain, and France. These productions were
showcased and funded by the government, making them accessible to all citizens. This allows for
an accurate portrayal of Greek culture due to the large amount of people that experienced it, as it
was an integral part of their culture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ever changing people s history is left in the few remaining volumes the works of comedy,
tragedy, and satire (____________90) .
One of the earliest Greek records of satire can be traced to around 500 B.C. Early Greek satires (
Satyrs or Satyric dramas ) were in essence comedy plays, usually fairly bawdy, and often
involved men dressed as Satyrs (clearly the root of the word Satyric). Satyrs were mythological
creatures with the upper half of a man and the bottom half of a goat or horse. Satyr was one of
three forms of Athenian drama, nestling comfortably as a new genre alongside tragedy and
comedy. Satyr was quickly developed between the writers Pratinas, Aristeas, and Aeschylus. These
new Satyrs did not begin life as fully developed features they were instead used as interval pieces
to relieve the seriousness of tragic plays. These comic pieces, counterpointing and parodying the
tragedy, became extremely popular devices and led to the extension of the form.
Ancient Greek comedy was one of the final three principal dramatic forms in the theatre of
classical Greece (the others being tragedy and the satyr play). Athenian comedy is conventionally
divided into three periods, Old Comedy, Middle Comedy, and New Comedy. Old Comedy
survives today largely in the form of the eleven surviving plays of Aristophanes, while Middle
Comedy is largely lost, i.e. preserved only in relatively short fragments in authors such as
Athenaeus of Naucratis. New Comedy is known

Graduate Degree At The University Of Waterloo
The overarching goal I have for pursuing a degree in Industrial/Organizational psychology is to
gain experience from specific areas of research in the I/O psychology field. I have had the
opportunity to take part in the research of this field throughout my undergraduate degree but
have not been able to explore it as in depth as I could through a graduate degree. Completing a
Master s of Applied Science in I/O psychology at the University of Waterloo will allow me to
reach this goal as I know that research is an integral part of the program. As such, my current
interest in career choices are focused on the teaching and research aspects of being a professor.
My recent experience as an Honours Thesis student has demonstrated my passion for research
and teaching as I have had the opportunity to conduct my own research and present it in order to
teach my classmates about my thesis topic. My previous experience in research has
demonstrated that I have the ambition to pursue graduate studies in order to reach my career
aspiration. I know that a Master s of Applied Science in I/O psychology at the University of
Waterloo will guide and challenge me to achieve my long term goal. Throughout my Master s
degree my objective is to work with people and conduct impactful research. I enjoy collaborating
and learning from others which will allow for personal development and well rounded learning. I
also aspire to work with people who share the same passion as I do in I/O psychology.

Events such as World War I, the Russian Revolution, World War II, the Cold War and the Collapse
of the Soviet Union have all influenced Russia and therefore impacted on the current political
systems of Russia (Simkin, 2013). The above mentioned events will be discussed in order to
highlight the effect these events had on Russia.
WORLD WAR I (1914 1918)
It is believed that the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand ultimately led to the war that
took place from 1914 1918 in which Russia suffered devastating losses (Johnson, 2007). Austria
declared war on Serbia and the Russian army was therefore mobilized to defend Serbia, and this
therefore resulted in hundreds and thousands of people being killed (Simkin, 2013). This war,
also known as the Great War , was divided into two opposing forces known as the Allies and the
Central Powers fought from a variety of networks (Trueman, 2013). Russia formed part of the
Allies and fought alongside France, Italy, Japan, Great Britain, and the United States, while the
Central Powers of Germany and Austria Hungary fought against them (Simkin, 2013). Trenches
also lined the Eastern front, where the Russians retreated after being defeated by the Germans in
September 1914 (Simkin, 2013). In 1918 Russia dropped out of the war so German troops could be
diverted from the Eastern front to the Western front (Simkin, 2013).

Essay on Microsoft Manages Legal and Ethical Issues
Microsoft Manages Legal and Ethical Issues
S. Nevarez
Olympic College
OLRM 202: Introduction to Organizational Ethics
Microsoft is the global leader in computer software, and well recognized in the field of corporate
social responsibility and philanthropy. However, since 1990 the computing giant has been plagued
by allegations of antitrust violations and monopolistic, non competitive business practices. By
answering the three questions posed in Part 5, Case 7 of Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making
and Cases; this review will address how such a legal and ethical dichotomy is possible, and how
the issues relate to one another in terms of corporate reputation.

2. Discuss the role of Microsoft s leadership and corporate culture in generating a large volume of
ethical and legal issues.
In the opening paragraph of a letter to employees regarding Business Conduct, Steven A Ballimer,
Microsoft CEO writes:
Microsoft aspires to be a great company, and our success depends on you. It depends on people
who innovate and are committed to growing our business responsibly. People who dedicate
themselves to really satisfying customers, helping partners, and improving the communities in
which we do business. People who are accountable for achieving big, bold goals with unwavering
integrity. People who are leaders, who appreciate that to be truly great, we must continually strive to
do better ourselves and help others improve.
In addition to a socially responsible code of conduct, community focused initiatives, and the
creation of over 15 million Internet Technology jobs worldwide, Microsoft founder Bill Gates is
head of the single largest philanthropic organization in the world: the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation, with an endowment of 37.1 billion dollars.
Even with this publicly ethical image, Microsoft has been mired in litigation since 1990, and has
paid billions of dollars in legal settlements and fees to address allegations of anti competitive
business practices. Hollywood even jumped on the bandwagon with the 2001

The Review By Rodrigo Perez Of Quentin Terentino s Django...
The review written by Rodrigo Perez of Quentin Terentino s Django Unchained, is excellent and
very well written. However, the review makes a mockery of one of Terentino s best films.
Quentin Terentino is a popular film maker. He has made films including: Pulp Fiction, Django
Unchained, Hateful 8, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, and many more. Django Unchained is about a
slave named Django who is purchased by bounty hunter, Dr. Shultz. Dr. Shultz takes Django
under his wing to help him along the way. In return for Django s help, Dr. Shultz will help him
find his wife, Broomhilda, who is working as a servant at the Candieland plantation in
Mississippi. To purchase Broomhilda, Django and Dr. Shultz pretend they are interested in
Mandingo fighting. They tell Mr. Calvin Candie, owner of Candieland that they want to
purchase one his best fighters which gets him interested in working business with them. Their
plan is to travel to Mississippi and get Broomhilda as well. Right as the purchase is about to
happen, Dr. Shultz gets greedy and everything goes awry. This three hour comedic drama pulls
the audience in with gruesome battle scenes and its well timed humor. Django Unchained was
produced well and is one of Terentino s best. Not everyone agrees with this though. For example,
there are many reviews written that find the movie boring and pointless. The review of Django
Unchained by Rodrigo Perez is a harsh review to a filmthat is an exemplary example of the work by

Chinese Kinship Systems Essay
Chinese Kinship Systems
Works Cited Missing
It would be impossible to disagree with the statement that Chinese kinship is based on male
predominance . In fact this statement may even be under emphasizing the control and absolute
power that males wield across all levels of Chinese society. Of course, where their power initially
comes from though, is through the family or termed differently the jia . It is this extended or ideal
family that cultivates the consistent patrilineal form of control/descent and dictates that residence in
said jia is primarily patrilocal. That being said, what I hope to be able to create over the following
pages is a clearer understanding of the ideal (Chinese) system of control. This ideal system, based on

I will return to this point later, but before going anywhere further it is best to ask why a son was
so important in the first place? There is, of course, a myriad of strong reasons, one reason being
that surnames were passed down through the male line. This process meant that a male child was
needed to take the surname of their father not their mother. Meaning that surname in China was
integral to creating a kinship system, which placed heavy emphasis on male superiority. It was
through this handed down surname, that the massive kinship systems such as a lineage or a clan
could be generated and held together over generations and generations. Hereditary surnames were
also the primary form of hierarchical family organization, and were inherently needed to practice
ancestor worship. This type of worship, through a patrilineal method, was exercised even after
kinship members had long since been deceased. The handing of the surname to a father s son (s),
then meant that he now existed to continue not only his present family but the extended family that
came before him, and the jia that would surface in the future. Baker s use of a rope metaphor works
well here, depicting a rope (standing for male heirs and descendents) which stretches back into the
past and forward into the future. The rope at any one time may be thicker or thinner according to
the number of strands (jia) or fibers (male individuals) which exist, but so long as one fiber remains
the rope is there....That is

Efficacy Of Treatment For Social Phobia
Review
A couple of researchers at the Anxiety Disorders Research Center in the Department of Psychology
at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) examined weaknesses of CBT (Craske et al.,
2014). Although CBT has been known for the most effective treatment for social phobia, not all
patients show improvements after the treatment. Patients easily drop out during, or at the early
stage of the treatment. Even patients who successfully finished the entire session tend to have a
hard time continuing to use methods they learned and to maintain low level of anxiety, so the
likelihood of reoccurrence exists. Therefore, alternative ways to solve these weaknesses are needed
in order to develop the treatment itself and to provide the most matchable treatment method for
each patient, according to the article by Craske et al. (2014).
The goals of this study were to examine the efficacy of ACT compared to CBT and to find the
intermediating risk factors of each treatment (Craske et al., 2014). The first hypothesis was that
social anxiety disorder patients who have a moderate level of cognitive misappraisals will show
better improvements if they received CBT compared to ACT. In addition, researchers hypothesized
that patients who received CBT also will outperform patients receiving ACT when they have a high
level of avoidance. Another hypothesis they chose to examine was that with a comorbid mood
disorder, social anxiety disorder patients will show better outcomes with ACT than

  • 2. Egyptian Pyramids And The Pyramids The Egyptian pyramids were an important aspect of the Egyptian life and culture constructed around 2500 BCE with their geographical location being at the West bank of the River Nile. The three pyramids on the Giza plateau were built in a span of three generations by three Pharaohs namely Khafre, Menkaure and Khufu. These monuments are unsurpassed in terms of height and mass with the architects of the pyramids building them in a way that they could face the setting sun as they served as a resting place for the dead. In stead of that, each pyramid acted as a royal mortuary which included a temple on its base and a causeway which was made out of stone leading from the east of the plateau. These temples were used by the living to honor the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The completion of the upper hemisphere of the Pantheon is connected to a hypothetical lower hemisphere that touches the central point of the floor. This central point is referred to as the Oculus and has an opening of about 8.3 meters wide at the top of the cupola that serves as the only source of light for the building as shown in figure 1.1. Its basic design was devised in a way whereby the portico had columns attached to a rotunda with a dome shape. An intermediate block was put in between the rectilinear portico and the round rotunda to help in transition between the two. Its walls are made from concrete that is brick faced which was witnessed in most ancient buildings and the Roman aqua ducts. The concrete of the dome was graded into 6 layers with the architects mixing scoria and a low density volcanic rock at the top of the dome as derived from Tod Marder and Mark Wilson. Scholars have indicated that Egypt was a kingdom formed and united under a single ruler in which the government was centralized thus enhancing engagement between the political elite and the citizens. Harmer (2001, p.228) viewed listening as a fundamental language skill. It provides the perfect opportunity to hear voices other than the teacher s, enable students to acquire good speaking habits as a result of the spoken English they absorb, and helps to improve their own pronunciation . Learning of foreign language rely on four basic skills which can be classified into receptive and productive skills. • 4. The Road In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding The name of this book written by Cormac McCarthy, the Road, can always drive the readers into a misunderstanding that it is a Road style work. However, it is actually a apocalyptic story which includes bunch of description and discussion about belief, morality and the human nature. It actually presents how people will act under a extreme terrible situation when the civilizationtotally does not exist. Actually McCarthy is not the only one who uses a lawless environment to analysis the humanity. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is also a story which puts the characters in a raw environment and presents their action. These two works have the similarities in the way they set up the stories, the type of conflicts and the way they end the stories; and this similarities actually show how the things described in the stories are commonly deemed, and help the two stories to support each other s ideas. Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based story. However, even though the missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make similar settings for the story. In the Road, the characters are in the environment where the resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord of the Flies, the characters are in an island where is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful that how McCathy is sure his description under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but what is described in Lord of the Flies can confirm it. More ... • 5. Christian Worldview Purpose Rebecca Drew CWV 101 08/16/2017 Professor Andre Mooney The purpose of the Christian worldview is to guide one how God wanted us to live our lives. It starts from the very beginning of creation to the world we currently live in today. Christians have faith in Christ. Christians truth about God is believed to be First, God created the world good indeed, the creation, especially man who is its crown, actually manifests God s goodness and that all creation is fallen through original sin (Echeyerria, 2007). This is what makes prophecy an integral part of Christianity. God: What is God like? What are God s Characteristics? What is his creation? He experienced a lot of things we as human s experience. Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins where he died on the cross. Jesus is important to the Christian worldview because he is the ultimate reason we are who we are today. • 7. Identity In Alice s Adventures In Wonderland Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland creates a warped reality, causing each character s identity to become confused. An exception to this confusion of identity is the Cheshire Cat, who shows an uncanny awareness of his own madness, giving him considerable control over his presence and allowing him to occasionally leave only a grin behind. Alice, contrarily, is strewn all over as she loses herself in Wonderland. In Wonderland, all are mad, but to Alice this is preposterous, even as she fails to explain who she is both to herself and to others. Carroll s juxtaposition of the Cheshire Catand Alice in their first meeting scene exaggerates Alice s insecure identity and its development throughout her adventures in Wonderland. In Alice s Adventures, Alice falls down a rabbit hole for what seems like forever, while bits and pieces of her identity remain trapped at the entrance. After this fall,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alice begins by startling at the sight of the Cat sitting on a tree bough, while the Cat only grins at Alice. As dear Alice asks for advice on which way she ought to continue, the Cat claims, if you do not know where you want to end up, then surely it does not matter which way you go (Carroll 49). This simplistic view of decision making plays on the complexity that humans weave into simple decisions of everyday life. Alice s confusion is spotlighted by this overtly simple take on decisions, and her confusion can then be tied to the absence of a concrete identity. The Cat proceeds to reveal that in Wonderland, we re all mad here. I m mad. You re mad, and this awareness and acceptance of the fury within himself further serves to bold Alice s insecurity (Carroll 49). Perhaps, if Alice knew who she was to others and to herself in Wonderland, she would not deny the madness of Wonderlands creatures, including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have the option between a 6 speed manual or an automatic CVT transmission. If you have a brain you ll buy this car with the 6 speed manual. In all when you look at these cars they are very similar but when you look a little deeper you can tell Mercedes is pulling the classic rip off I still give Mercedes kudos for their other cars, but this one just doesn t seem worth it to me. It s not a total rip off it s just you re gonna have to pay extra to get a car with a Mercedes badge on it. This era consists of wars and a variety of inventions coming into our world, such as The Persian Gulf War, and the Google Search Bar. This decade was a time of all sorts of records broken and right into the history book, just like when Eilleen Collins was the first female to become an astronaut. This is a start to something big in many years to come. The Persian Gulf War was one of the great wars that helped America to be what is today. This war helped people achieve freedom and liberty in their lives. Furthermore, the United States paid for the war and it costs the U.S. millions of dollars in debt (NAGEL, 21). The war was declared on August 20, 1990. This war was declared because of Iraq s invasion in Kuwait on August 20, 1990. Iraq s leader, Saddam Hussein, ordered the invasion and occupation of Kuwait with the apparent aim of acquiring that nation s large oil reserves, canceling a large debt Iraq owed Kuwait, and expanding Iraqi power in the region (EXAMINER.COM). Persian Gulf War took place in Southwestern Asia. The U.S benefited some things not just for them, but for other countries. People said the U.S achieved freedom for other countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. These countries did not possess freedom. One thing the U.S benefited from this war, was respect. • 14. Analysis Of Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory Charles Berger, a communication theorist coined the term Uncertainty Reduction Theory in 1975. This theory discusses that when people meet one of their first concerns is to reduce uncertainty about the other person and the situation. Berger uses eight axioms, verbal communication, nonverbal warmth, information seeking, self disclosure, reciprocity, similarity, liking, and shared networks to discuss the connection between these axioms and reducing uncertainty (Griffin, E., Ledbetter, A., Sparks G, 2015). Berger and Calabrese s (1975) Uncertainty Reduction Theoryhas basic assumptions that when strangers meet, their primary concern is one of uncertainty reduction or increasing predictability about the behavior of both themselves and others in the interaction (p. 100). A video interview with Charles Berger and Em Griffin discusses Uncertainty Reduction Theory and what it means to Berger. In the video, Berger states that the theory deliberates the struggles that people go through in their lives to adjust to the changing world around them. One of the main struggles people face is that uncertainty is always there, especially in a new situation. Berger states, if we re going to act in ways that will achieve our desired goals that is, we ll get what we want we have to be able to anticipate, to be able to predict what the physical world is going to do and what the people in it are going to do ( A First Look... , 2015). • 16. Animal Rights And The Rights Of Animals For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think and feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others think they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place that are strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. In the United States however; some of the animal rightslaws are considered to be useless and under enforced (Animal Legal Historical Center). More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and should be protected by laws and regulations (Animal Legal Historical Center). Sadly there are many people residing in the United States who don t take animal rights or protection laws seriously. These people abuse animals in many ways, including food industries that disobey the regulations set in place for the slaughter of animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals there are people who fight for their rights and the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists. The controversy over the rights of animals continues today within the United States. There has always been a question about the emotions of animals. • 17. Non-Governmental Safety Regulations Every person on earth needs food to survive. Hence, ensuring that the food we consume is in fact safe to eat is one of the most fundamentally important actions that an agency, governmental, or otherwise can take. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO, 2010), the responsibility of ensuring safe foodproducts is a shared responsibility among government and non government agencies. When examining the role of non governmental agencies in this important component of the food market, one might consider their position both in terms of governmental regulations and independent of these. The role of governments, for example, is to establish policies for food safety by means of a system of controls to ensure that these are met. The government, however, is not solely responsible to ensure that these safety standards are met. Indeed, an even more direct responsibly for ensuring food safety and acceptable standards lie with non governmental entities, including all the operators within the food chain. Even consumers play a role in ensuring food safety standards by means of expressing concerns or requirements for the safety of the products that they consume. In international trade, government and non government agencies also collaborate to ensure acceptable food safety standards. The rules are imposed within the SPS and TBT Agreements of the WTO. This means that a uniform food safety standard is provided to ensure the safety of products for all consumers worldwide, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Essay on Theory Of Knowledge Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate whether or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and consider what they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the objectivity and empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly based on inductive and deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive reasoning and is presented as a distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by verification: correspondence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by using a combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific hypothesis from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to testing. The name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we can predict that particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a deduction from the initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is confirmed. Confirmation of the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true x number of times, we claim that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis process is the part of the model that encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method one only has access to a limited number of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed to incorporate advantages of both types of verifications, by using inductive reasoning as confirmation processes, it is still affected by the fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic criticism of the original scientific model. OF LINGUISTICS MA 1st SEMESTER ROLL NO: 34 INTRODUCTION One of the major consequences of the arbitrary nature of sign, is the distinction made between the synchronic and diachronic study of language by the Swiss linguist and semiotician Ferdinand De Saussure. Regarding the debate surrounding the perspective, it has been suggested by Saussure s critics that in trying to distinguish between these two, and in granting priority on the synchronic nature of study over the diachronic one, he was to a great extent ignoring the historical entity of language. Inspite of the distinction made by Saussure, he believed that both kind of facts are intertwined. Hence it raised a paradoxical situation. SYNCHRONIC AND DIACHRONIC STUDY OF LANGUAGES Synchronic study of language refers to the study of the linguistic system in a particular state without taking the time period through which it has evolved into consideration. Here the languages are treated as self contained systems of communication at any specific time without taking it s history into account. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Symptoms of measles begin to appear about seven to fourteen days after a person is infected, but can be as long as twenty days. Most cases start with a mild to moderate fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and sore throat. About three to five days later, a red rash appears. The rash begins at the hairline, then spreads down to the rest of the body. When the rash appears, the fever may be as high as 103В°F to105В°F. Symptoms may last for one to two weeks. Many cases are complicated by secondary infections caused by bacterial pathogens, mainly Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Haemophilus influenzae. These pathogens readily invade the body because measles damages the normal body defenses. Secondary infections most commonly cause earaches and pneumonia. Measles can be prevented by injecting an attenuated rubeola virus vaccine. At the time of the introduction of the vaccine in the early 1960s, there were about 400,000 cases of the disease were being reported each year in the United States, probably representing one tenth of the actual number of victims. The number of cases in the United States have declined to maybe just a few each year. In 1980 the worldwide incidence of rubeola was estimated to be 100 million with 5.8 million deaths. Globally, vaccination programs have lowered the number of cases dramatically since then, however, the decline in incidence has not been uniform among the different regions of ... This ever changing people s history is left in the few remaining volumes the works of comedy, tragedy, and satire (____________90) . One of the earliest Greek records of satire can be traced to around 500 B.C. Early Greek satires ( Satyrs or Satyric dramas ) were in essence comedy plays, usually fairly bawdy, and often involved men dressed as Satyrs (clearly the root of the word Satyric). Satyrs were mythological creatures with the upper half of a man and the bottom half of a goat or horse. Satyr was one of three forms of Athenian drama, nestling comfortably as a new genre alongside tragedy and comedy. Satyr was quickly developed between the writers Pratinas, Aristeas, and Aeschylus. These new Satyrs did not begin life as fully developed features they were instead used as interval pieces to relieve the seriousness of tragic plays. These comic pieces, counterpointing and parodying the tragedy, became extremely popular devices and led to the extension of the form. Ancient Greek comedy was one of the final three principal dramatic forms in the theatre of classical Greece (the others being tragedy and the satyr play). Athenian comedy is conventionally divided into three periods, Old Comedy, Middle Comedy, and New Comedy. Old Comedy survives today largely in the form of the eleven surviving plays of Aristophanes, while Middle Comedy is largely lost, i.e. preserved only in relatively short fragments in authors such as Athenaeus of Naucratis. New Comedy is known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Events such as World War I, the Russian Revolution, World War II, the Cold War and the Collapse of the Soviet Union have all influenced Russia and therefore impacted on the current political systems of Russia (Simkin, 2013). The above mentioned events will be discussed in order to highlight the effect these events had on Russia. WORLD WAR I (1914 1918) It is believed that the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand ultimately led to the war that took place from 1914 1918 in which Russia suffered devastating losses (Johnson, 2007). Austria declared war on Serbia and the Russian army was therefore mobilized to defend Serbia, and this therefore resulted in hundreds and thousands of people being killed (Simkin, 2013). This war, also known as the Great War , was divided into two opposing forces known as the Allies and the Central Powers fought from a variety of networks (Trueman, 2013). Russia formed part of the Allies and fought alongside France, Italy, Japan, Great Britain, and the United States, while the Central Powers of Germany and Austria Hungary fought against them (Simkin, 2013). Trenches also lined the Eastern front, where the Russians retreated after being defeated by the Germans in September 1914 (Simkin, 2013). • 44. The Review By Rodrigo Perez Of Quentin Terentino s Django... The review written by Rodrigo Perez of Quentin Terentino s Django Unchained, is excellent and very well written. However, the review makes a mockery of one of Terentino s best films. Quentin Terentino is a popular film maker. He has made films including: Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Hateful 8, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, and many more. Django Unchained is about a slave named Django who is purchased by bounty hunter, Dr. Shultz. Dr. Shultz takes Django under his wing to help him along the way. In return for Django s help, Dr. Shultz will help him find his wife, Broomhilda, who is working as a servant at the Candieland plantation in Mississippi. To purchase Broomhilda, Django and Dr. Shultz pretend they are interested in Mandingo fighting. They tell Mr. Calvin Candie, owner of Candieland that they want to purchase one his best fighters which gets him interested in working business with them. Their plan is to travel to Mississippi and get Broomhilda as well. Right as the purchase is about to happen, Dr. Shultz gets greedy and everything goes awry. This three hour comedic drama pulls the audience in with gruesome battle scenes and its well timed humor. Django Unchained was produced well and is one of Terentino s best. Not everyone agrees with this though. For example, there are many reviews written that find the movie boring and pointless. • 45. Chinese Kinship Systems Essay Chinese Kinship Systems Works Cited Missing It would be impossible to disagree with the statement that Chinese kinship is based on male predominance . In fact this statement may even be under emphasizing the control and absolute power that males wield across all levels of Chinese society. Of course, where their power initially comes from though, is through the family or termed differently the jia . It is this extended or ideal family that cultivates the consistent patrilineal form of control/descent and dictates that residence in said jia is primarily patrilocal. That being said, what I hope to be able to create over the following pages is a clearer understanding of the ideal (Chinese) system of control. This ideal system, based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will return to this point later, but before going anywhere further it is best to ask why a son was so important in the first place? There is, of course, a myriad of strong reasons, one reason being that surnames were passed down through the male line. This process meant that a male child was needed to take the surname of their father not their mother. Meaning that surname in China was integral to creating a kinship system, which placed heavy emphasis on male superiority. It was through this handed down surname, that the massive kinship systems such as a lineage or a clan could be generated and held together over generations and generations. Hereditary surnames were also the primary form of hierarchical family organization, and were inherently needed to practice ancestor worship. This type of worship, through a patrilineal method, was exercised even after kinship members had long since been deceased. The handing of the surname to a father s son (s), then meant that he now existed to continue not only his present family but the extended family that came before him, and the jia that would surface in the future. Baker s use of a rope metaphor works well here, depicting a rope (standing for male heirs and descendents) which stretches back into the past and forward into the future. The rope at any one time may be thicker or thinner according to the number of strands (jia) or fibers (male individuals) which exist, but so long as one fiber remains the rope is there....That is ... • 46. Efficacy Of Treatment For Social Phobia Review A couple of researchers at the Anxiety Disorders Research Center in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) examined weaknesses of CBT (Craske et al., 2014). Although CBT has been known for the most effective treatment for social phobia, not all patients show improvements after the treatment. Patients easily drop out during, or at the early stage of the treatment. Even patients who successfully finished the entire session tend to have a hard time continuing to use methods they learned and to maintain low level of anxiety, so the likelihood of reoccurrence exists. Therefore, alternative ways to solve these weaknesses are needed in order to develop the treatment itself and to provide the most matchable treatment method for each patient, according to the article by Craske et al. (2014). The goals of this study were to examine the efficacy of ACT compared to CBT and to find the intermediating risk factors of each treatment (Craske et al., 2014). The first hypothesis was that social anxiety disorder patients who have a moderate level of cognitive misappraisals will show better improvements if they received CBT compared to ACT. In addition, researchers hypothesized that patients who received CBT also will outperform patients receiving ACT when they have a high level of avoidance. Another hypothesis they chose to examine was that with a comorbid mood disorder, social anxiety disorder patients will show better outcomes with ACT than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
