Essay on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Some time ago, I decided to read Twenty Thousand Leagues
under the Sea, by Jules Verne. I figured that because it was so well known it must be an extremely
interesting book. In addition, it was science fiction, the one area that I was always interested. My
assumption was only partially correct, for I only was to a degree interested in the piece of writing.
When Jules Verne was writing this book, he must have been reading some incredibly dull science
book the day before, for that was what the book was written as. The style of writing was utterly
against my tastes, and though the plot was moderately interesting, the style of writing really ruined it.
Often, the author will trail off describing some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It promptly fitted a frigate, the Abraham Lincoln, to destroy the beast, and invited Pierre to join them,
for his science capabilities. For many months they searched, but could not find this Narwhale
anywhere. When they found it, it attacked the ship, disabling it, and sending M. Aronnax, Ned Land (a
harpooner) and Conseil (servant of Pierre) overboard. Soon, the three were guests in the Narwhale,
now known to be a ship, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo. During the stay aboard the
Nautilus, Pierre Conseil and Ned encounter and discover many wonderful and interesting facts from
the sea. Often, they would accompany the captain in an under water expedition. Several of these
excursions were to hunt, and others were simply to explore a submarine region. One of the times when
the purpose was just to investigate an underwater region, Captain Nemo and M. Aronnax explored the
lost city of Atlantis. On a separate occasion, Pierre found that there was a supply of coal underwater
that the Nautilus used as a source of fuel. In addition to underwater excursions, the Nautilus itself was
on a round the world journey, which accounted for the most exiting time of the book. This was when
Captain Nemo was attempting to access the South Pole. That meant passing the Great Ice Barrier, and
surviving with very little air. During this rather long voyage, the submarine gets wedged between two
icebergs,

The Development Of Gifted Adolescents
Development Script
When it comes to development, there are many different forms. A person goes through not only
physical and intellectual development but also emotional and even social development. While some
develop efficiently in all areas, others can encounter issues with their development in some or even all
areas. No matter how one develops though there is always questions about it. How it all works, what
to expect, and even why one is not developing in a certain way or like another person. Imagine you are
a parent, how would you explain these developments to your child? What would you tell them about
the changes they may encounter physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially?
Physically
Although gifted adolescents have a way of viewing things differently than that of an average
adolescence, they still face the same physical changes. As the parent of a 14 year old smart girl, it is
important to approach the subject with honesty and maturity not to insult her intelligence. Explain to
her that the increase in the size of her hips, breast, and the addition of pubic hair, are all characteristics
of her sexual identity. Reassure her that the beginning of her menstrual cycle is normal for a girl that is
leaving childhood and entering into the stage of adolescents. Discuss the new feelings that she may be
experiencing, allow her to express these feelings openly. Intellectually
On the intellect side of development, that occurs throughout one s entire

JOINT FIELD PROJECT
MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
Your major and final project for both Organizational Behavior and Management Communication will
be a field based project pursued by your group, involving field research (interviews, focus groups,
data collection, etc.), and culminating in a formal report and an oral presentation (by the team) to your
client (optional) and your classmates and professors.
Objectives
The objectives of this assignment are:
1. To provide you the opportunity to apply the theory and processes you are learning to actual practice,
with the structure and guidance provided by your professors, and with the support of your group and
other classmates.
2. To provide you with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proposal will not be graded, but it will be read carefully with an eye for feasibility, potential
pitfalls, and possible directions you might pursue for most fruitful results. You will not receive credit
for the final report unless the proposal has been submitted and returned to you. The proposal letter will
be read and graded as an assignment in Management Communication.
2. Final Written Report
Purpose and Audience
A final report is usually the last stage in some sort of problem identification/problem solving process,
or, at least, an evaluative process. Within business organizations, the audience is usually a two part
one: the staff who will be charged with acting on your findings, and the executives who want to be
able to grasp quickly the gist of your report and to act accordingly. In order to satisfy both these
audiences, your report needs to be prepared in full detail for the former audience, although as briefly
and concisely as is consonant with that goal; and in intelligent summary form for the latter audience,
usually as an executive summary.
Form and Organization
The most common flaw in reports made in business organizations, whether in written or oral form, is
that they are too linear. That is, they are organized in a pattern reflecting the process the investigator
(s) followed in conducting the study. You ll want to write instead for readers who want their concerns
emphasized, and not be

Slavery American Slavery
Slavery in America has always been a widely discussed topic. Many of these discussions have be
focus on why slavery grew so rapidly between the late 1700 s and the mid 1800 s just before the Civil
War. The number of slaves in the south during the late 1700 s was approximately 500,000, this number
grew to almost four million by the 1860 s. There is evidence to support that the perpetuation and
expansion of black slavery in the United States between 1776 and 1860 was influenced by greed, a
since of white superiority, and legislation. A combination that would lead to an eventual civil war.
Greed was a major driving force in the expansion of black slavery in the in the 18th and 19th
centuries. This expansion of slavery was a cycle that would perpetuate itself. Plantation owners would
realize early on that the ownership of slave would increase their socioeconomic status and the greed
for this status was enormous. The use of slaves would create higher profit margins for the plantation
owners. With higher profits, plantation owners could purchase more land, and with more land came
the need for more labor (slaves) to operate the larger plantation. A larger plantation would lead to
owner coming into power within the local government as a top land owner. The political power that
came with local government leadership also became lusted after. At the time, the greed for more
money birthed the greed for more land, the greed for more land birthed the greed for political power.

Tomi Cade Bambara The Lesson
Puppy by George Saunders and The Lesson by Tomi Cade Bambara are both stories that show the
ugly side of poverty. In Puppy the main character Marie and her kids are well off because of Marie s
husband. However, the other family in the story which include Callie and also Callie s husband and
her kids live in poverty. Marie goes to Callie s house to check out a puppy her kids are interested in.
When Marie gets there due to the class differences Marie cannot understand why Callie does things
the way she does and also why her house is the way it is. Furthermore, because Callie is living in
poverty Marie looks at her as less of a person. In The Lesson is narrated by a girl named Sylvia who

The negative effects can be seen in that competition for jobs in American society is so competitive that
author John Michael Roberts asserts that people, Work for free (28). While Americans tend to believe
that competition brings out the best in people, the Marxist theory states that it actually brings out the
worst in people such as greed, selfishness, and unethical actions. This can be seen by how the
characters of The Lesson and Callie s family are living in extreme poverty despite being in the richest
nations in the world. Danzinger and Danzinger assert, The child poverty rate in the US is high in
relation to the rate in other industrialized countries (57). This high poverty rate can be seen in The
Lesson and it shows how competition can leave some people at the bottom even in New York, one of
the richest states in the United States. Miss Moore sees that it is unjust for kids to be living in such
poverty and says, Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people spend on a toy
what it would cost to feed a family of six or seven ( The Lesson , Bambara 151). While some people
get rich off competing, some get left behind and many times the ones that do get ahead had to do
something unethical. Sylvia notices all of the unethical practices it takes to get ahead in a competitive
society and as a result, when Miss Moore gives Sylvia money

Essay about Transformation of Japan
Transformation of Japan
During the time period between the 1850s and 1950s, Japan underwent massive changes politically,
economically, and socially. Acknowledging the failure of isolation, Japan imitated the West in an
attempt to modernize, however, still retaining its own identity. A reorganized and more centralized
government allowed Japan to industrialize in half the time it took the nations of Western Europe.
Industrialization provided Japan with the tools needed to transform itself from a half civilized and
backwards society during isolation, to a dominating superpower during WWII.
In 1853 during the Tokugawa shogunate, Matthew Perry, an American commodore, arrived with an
army at Edo Bay to coerce the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan entered the race for colonies. Japan became imperialist after 1890 due to the need to pay the
new army, search for raw materials and new resources, and avoid Western intrusion of Japan s
possessions. Japan quickly defeated China in the Sino Japanese War in 1895 gaining territory in
northern China. In 1902, Japan allied itself with Britain, demonstrating the arrival of Japan as an equal
to the Western powers. In 1904, Japan won the Russo Japanese war on account of its superior navy. In
1910, Japan annexed Korea. Economically, Korea was economically exploited.
The Great depression called for radical measures, which included military aggression. Japanese
military played a major role in setting diplomatic policy. The military was separate from the
bureaucracy and adhered to the emperor. The military saw Japan s liberalism as a threat to traditional
Japanese values and customs and the military s position in the government. In 1931, the military
captured Manchuria without government approval. In 1932, several military officials assassinated the
prime minister. As a result, a mildly military government was created as militaristic prime ministers
presided. The militaristic prime ministers called for expansion in Asia to create an empire. The
demand for wider conquests by the military drove Japan to enter WWII.
After WWII, Japan was devastated by war, but the aid of the U.S. allowed them to recover quickly.

Psych Analysis
The introductory paragraphs are pictured as an upside down triangle, which start out with a broad
statement and narrow down to a point. Whereas a middle paragraph is more like a block, it starts out
with a broad statement but elaborates instead of narrowing down.
The main purpose is to explain the points in your thesis by not confusing the reader. Paragraphing
keeps each point separated so that one big block of explaining does not bore your reader, it also helps
the writer explain his point.
Writing big paragraphs helps the writer explore writing on their own, it makes them think and learn to
control the details, unimportant sentences, etc.
An essay has an intro, a middle, and conclusion. A paragraph is exactly like that, the only difference ...

Different Types Of Cell Research
HSC Research Paper
From brain cells to skin cells, our body is made up of 200 different types of specialized cells. One of
the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in
other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout
your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to
develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. With regenerative abilities,
stem cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division and when the stem cell divides to
create another cell, the new cell has the potential to either stay a stem cell or differentiate into a ...

For over 40 years, they have been used to successfully treat the cancers of blood, including lymphoma
and leukemia. HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers
continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical
uses of HSCs.
The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated
that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other
words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or
platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in
which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice,
which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks
following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they
could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of
healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions,
such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells.
Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and
differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done,

I believe the book of Jonah intends to teach us that God is a gracious and merciful Lord who will grant
salvation to those who desire to repent, by the virtue of; accepting the Lord with all your heart, mind,
and soul. This idea is evident by the content of the book. First, we understand that one cannot seek
God and flee from him simultaneously. He wants us to obey his will even if adversity chooses to arise.
However, Jonah refuses the Lord s will and chooses to disobey him. Consequently, Jonah is thrown
overboard and swallowed by a fish. Although, once Jonah prays for forgiveness the Lord grants it.
Subsequently, Jonah preaches the gospel and the king of Nineveh as well as his people repent to the
Lord and forgives. This angers Jonah, even though the Lord forgave Jonah of his atrocious act just as
he did with the Ninevites. In conclusion, we learn that if we repent and obey the Lord s calling, God

Strategy Implementation Process Paper
In everything that we do, we have used some kind of strategy (plan). From driving to the store, which
street to take to get there the fastest, to selecting that perfect item at the high tech store, the newest
digital gadget. It is in our nature to formulate this kind of behavior when we are given a choice. In an
organization it is much harder to accomplish that same behavior because there is more than one
individual in the process, but still possible to do. Strategy is a guide by which an organization moves
from a current state of affairs to a future desired state. In this paper I will explain the strategy
implementation concept of the basic model of strategic management that we can use to make this
happen. Strategy implementation is the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Write Your Own Rock Song
In most instances, a listener strives to find a song that is simultaneously culturally and socially
conscious, while having a listenability that allows the song to be played at any time or any place. For
the above song, I took a pointedly socially and culturally approach to the socioeconomic inequalities
that persist in the United States, using subtle and themes of freedom and hardship, while concurrently
using the not so subtle theme of class differences to convey the differences between social classes in
our society. The lyrics provide the potential listener with a juxtaposition of someone who invariably
questions their place in society in comparison with an individual who seems to have everything they
could ever need or want, hence the inclusion of (Mercedes) Benz in the second verse. The lyrics are
written in simple verse form and intentionally have the last two lines of the first verse rhyming with
each other, as well as the first two lines of the second verse rhyming with one another. The rhyming is
meant to emphasis the restraints that lower class people have in terms of social mobility and the
freedom those in upper classes enjoy on a daily basis. The end and Benz creates a slant rhyme that
resembles the perpetual cycle of poverty in contrast with someone who is sad about their luxury car
being out of commission. Given the form of the lyrics and their social connections, the options for
music selection and instrumentation varied across genre and sound. For the

Jeff Koons artwork is not considered art, however I believe that his artworks are considered art
because its his own creation and it is a new kind art that we have not seen much of. From our lecture,
Professor Brandon Vickerd talked a little about Jeff Koons, and he stated that Some people would look
at his work as pioneering and of major art historical importance, while others view his work as kitsch:
crass and based on cynical self merchandising. (Taken from PowerPoint). By researching this artist, I
found that basically anything could be considered art as long as you make it your own, original and
make it look interesting.

Tay Sachs Disease Essay
Tay Sachs is an incurable genetic disease that affects the central nervous system. It is a rare disorder
that occurs chiefly in infants and children, especially those of the Jewish heritage. It is characterized
by a red spot in the retina, paralysis, gradual blindness, and loss of muscle movement.
Tay Sachs can only be inherited, which means it is passed from parents to child only. The process
begins in the fetus, very early in pregnancy. However, the disease does not become physically
apparent until the child is several months old. Tay Sachs is caused by the absence of a vital enzyme,
called the Hex A gene, which is in chromosome 15. This gene plays an important role in the nervous
system. It breaks down the fatty substance called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents who suspect they might be at risk are strongly encouraged to be tested before pregnancy.
Pregnant mothers can have their unborn babies tested for Hex A deficit that causes Tay Sachs. If these
tests do not detect the Hex A gene, the baby has the Tay Sachs mutation. If the tests do detect the Hex
A gene, then the baby is perfectly healthy. Between the 10th and 12th weeks of pregnancy, an
expectant mother can get a chorionic villus sampling or CVS. In this procedure, a small sample of the
placenta is drawn into a needle or small tube for analysis. Between 15 18 weeks of a pregnancy, an
expecting mother could have an amniocentesis to test for the Hex A mutation. This test involves a
needle that is inserted into the mother s belly to draw a sample of amniotic fluid that surrounds the
fetus. Children are usually tested for Tay Sachs after having hearing, sight, and movement problems.
The disease can be identified by a doctor through blood tests and screening.
Children affected by Tay Sachs disease are born seemingly normal and develop like any other child in
the first three to six months of life. Throughout the next month, and sometimes even years, the baby
will progressively lose the ability to see, hear, and move. The child will develop a cherry colored red
spot in the back of the eye and they lose or never even gain important motor and mental skills. The
child will stop smiling, crawling, sitting, turning over, and reaching for things. By

Germany as a Victim
Germany as a Victim
On the 16th June the German government, lead by Count Brockdorff Rantzau, were presented with the
Treaty of Versailles. They were originally given 14, and then 21 days, to agree to it. The treaty, which
included some 440 Articles, was not as vindictive as Clemenceau had wanted nor as moderate as
Lloyd George would have wished. It certainly fell far short of the conciliatory features of Wilson s
fourteen point proposals. (Evans and Jenkins) However, in order to decipher whether the end results
were destructive to Germany or not, it is necessary to asses not only the main points of the treaty

Temperature Affects Candle Rate Investigation
INTRODUCTION Problem: How does the size of a beaker placed over a candle affect the length of
the time it will burn for?
Hypothesis: If different sized beakers (100 ml, 50 ml, 250 ml, 400 ml) are placed over the lit candle,
then the candle will stay lit for longer if it s covered by the largest beaker (400 ml) ,because fire needs
oxygen to stay alive.
VARIABLES The independent variables is the different sized beakers... (50 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml, 400
ml). The dependent variables is the amount of time in between placing the beaker completely over the
candle, and the flame burning out. The controlled variables is that the candle used in the experiment
was always the same, and that all the beakers were made of glass.

Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online
Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s,
adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was
considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s
visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social
commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass.
Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of
Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to
compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to
inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of
outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms
with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people
allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet
could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the
1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for
example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer

Moonshine In Southern Appalachia
Southern Appalachia is located in the Eastern United States cultural region. It stretches from the
southern part of New York to northern Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. This cultural region in the
Eastern United States relies heavily on moonshine and the distribution of moonshine. Moonshine is
illicitly distilled or smuggled liquor. Other words that are common when speaking of moonshine is
white lightning, mountain dew, hooch, homebrew, and white whiskey. The making and distribution of
moonshine has helped shape the literature, music, and environment of Southern Appalachia while the
Whiskey Rebellion and the Prohibition helped lead moonshine to its part in the Southern Appalachian

The answer to this problem was to put a federal tax on liquors and spirits, like moonshine, white
whiskey, hooch, mountain dew, etc. For these early moonshiners, making and selling alcohol wasn t a
hobby or a way to make extra cash it was how they survived (Grabianowski). Moonshine is typically
made with corn mash. Moonshine was once banned under the 18th Amendment to the United States
Constitution. However, the liquor controlled laws forbid moonshining focus mainly on evasion of
revenue taxation on spirituous and intoxicating liquors, and are required by the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of the United States Department of the Treasury (Wikipedia). The
enforcers of these laws are known as revenooers or revenuers. Early in American history, these federal
agents were attacked when they came around to collect the tax on liquors and spirits, and a number of
them were tarred and feathered (Grabianowski). These problems arose with the federal agents, or the
revenuers because they were trying to make these moonshiners and farmers pay taxes on their profit,
interrupting their income and profit of making and selling alcohol. Moonshine became a part of the
daily life of these citizens because of the money being made, having to pay the tax would risk being
able to feed their families and make a living. Moonshine was an essential part of American history

My research will be based on Political, Economic, and Social Organization of Singapore an
industrialist city state. Even though Singapore s history dates from the 11th century, the island was
little known to the West until the 19th century. Singapore is one of the World s largest ports, because
the city of Singapore has become a major port, with trade exceeding that of Malaya s, Malacca and
Penang combined. The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the advent of steamships launched an
era of prosperity for Singapore as transit trade expanded throughout Southeast Asia (Bureau of East

This triangle would prove to be a good move for the three countries, but with free trade agreements
(FTAs) and close economic partnerships (CEPs) coming onto the scene, the growth triangles
introduced in the 80 s looked as if they may have competition in the economic realm, but GTs
continue to be at the tip of the spear due to the cooperation between the three are still very productive
for them all. With all three countries being relatively close together, costs are minimal. Not to
mention, this export oriented cooperation is still attractive to foreign trading (Heng, 2006, pg. 1). The
pioneering GT in Southeast Asia is that of the IMS GT, and its evolution is very much tied to the
economic development of the Singapore economy (Toh amp; Low, 1993, Kakazu, 1997). There are
five GT s in existence and GT s are highly regarded by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations

Puritan Americans During The English Reformation
The English Reformation Puritans The Puritans was a group of English Protestants from the late 16th

kept them from the act of worship that they wanted to practice. There were three step to Reformation

Because of American religious history there were several groups that came to the New World to make
their mark. The Puritans had a stronger influence on society both positive and negative. A. One of the
positive things taken place was the reform in the church on social, political, ethical, and theological
ideas. This brought about commitment of the gospel from each generations. The work of the Holy
Spirit displayed spiritual wisdom in the pulpits, the way the preacher preached and led the
congregation with his leadership role. This brought about a change in the way things were done, the
start of revival injected new ideas into the Christian faith. Another way was the movement of anti
slavery, this could bring freedom to Black America. Also, the religious freedom was incorporated in
the American society that all people could worship and serve God in their own ethics groups. After the
freedom of slavery, the blacks were able to work for themselves and work for others as free men.
Black preachers started their own churches and met every week for service. There were many changes
made in society in the way we live and worship in today s society. As believers in God we have come

Essay on Benefits and Effects of Different Types of Training
People often think that bodybuilding is the best way to show off muscle strength. Instead, there are
smarter ways to gain strength and show off strength and it can be done in more effective ways than
straight weight lifting. In this report, I will show the benefits and effects of different types of training.
Strong muscles, being essential to good health, can be built and toned through many different forms of
exercise. Three primary methods of strength training are traditional exercise, alternative exercise and
other miscellaneous methods of training. Traditional exercise is mainly things that you will find at
your normal gym like weights, treadmills and other common equipment. Alternative exercise includes

Trainers can also give you exercises to do without any equipment at all, so you can do them at home.
Another thing that trainers do is mix pieces of equipment, like making you use weights while on an
exercise machine. Also, if personal trainers are too expensive or hard to get, group classes are a great
option. You will get most of the same exercises, just in a group environment. Group classes are also
great because you can be inspired t(o work harder, faster, more frequently, etc.) by other people in the
class. Alternative exercise is another option for muscle strengthening. Good forms of alternative
exercise are group classes. The classes do not necessarily need to be group exercise classes, there are
many other classes available that will strengthen you. Yoga is one of those classes. Yoga not only
stretches your muscles out so they have more room to grow, you also usually work in a warm or hot
environment, which makes your muscles work harder. Yoga involves balance, concentration, and
relaxation. These things are all necessary and relevant to muscle strengthening because if you do too
much strengthening in a short amount of time, like a week, you could possibly get injured. Pilates is
another class that is great for strengthening. Pilates is a strengthening class that works smaller, but
essential muscles in your body. Pilates also has lots of great core exercises involved. Another form of

Utilising A Wide Range Of Sources Critically Evaluate And...
Utilising a wide range of sources critically evaluate and discuss the following statement:
Dangerousness is said to be socially constructed.
Dangerousness is a term that is used in various settings such as legal, academic, administrative and
popular discourse (Bennett, n.d:3.). The meaning of the term can vary throughout the different settings
(ibid). In criminology the term often corresponds with acts of violence, and is used to label an
offenders potential level of risk of harm they may cause (Farrington and Tarling, 1985:175). Someone
who is labelled as dangerous is thought to pose as a threat or risk to society. However, dangerousness
is not easily defined; it can actually cover a range of factors; which makes it more of an umbrella
term. For example, three distinct constructs such as risk factors, potential harm, and risk level are used
to determine dangerousness (Greene and Wrightsman, 2007:263). Nevertheless, even though the term
lacks a clear and concise definition, it is used on a daily basis to make very important decisions
regarding offenders who have been previously convicted of a specified offence such as, a violent
offence, or a sexual offence (Legislation.gov.uk, 2003). Society is becoming increasingly obsessed
with danger or risks to health and safety, and anxiety and fear are becoming a more dominated feature
in everyday life (Furedi, 2007:198). It is thought that dangerousness is a product of societal
construction, this essay will assess how

How Does Danforth Occur In The Crucible
The mass witch hysteria in Salem. Massachusetts, deteriorated the rational and emotional stability of
its citizens. The obvious breakdown in Salem s social order led to the tragedy in which twenty
innocent people were hanged on the accusation of witchcraft. At many points throughout the play
there were opportunities to stop the witch trials; however, one character in particular prevented the
crease in convictions. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Deputy Governor Danforth is responsible for
the tragedy in Salem. One of many reasons the witch trials were able to continue was because of Judge
Danforth s ignorance towards what was actually going on in Salem. When Francis Nurse and John
Proctor try to explain to him the girls are deceiving him, he over rules their ideas by challenging And

well as being exposed to false evidence, Judge Danforth also makes the claim that witchcraft cannot
be disproved; therefore the court has to rely solely on the girl s accusations. Danforth declares, But

Role Of Helen In The Odyssey
Helen of Sparta s portrayals in many different accounts of mythology and history are extremely

Helen, the Trojan war began. In The Odyssey , Helen is shown as living happily with Menelaus after
he brought her back from Sparta. She is portrayed as an intelligent person who sees things for what

At the beginning of the story, the gods are debating what to do with the Greeks after they pillaged
Troy, but more specifically, violated Athena s shrine. Athena asks for help and says to Poseidon, I
want to help the Trojans who were my enemies, and make the Greek army s homecoming a bitter one.
(Euripides 63). To which Poseidon replies, You re so fickle. Your mind leaps here and there: now you
hate, and now you love, and both in excess. (Euripides 65). Even Poseidon admits to the fickleness of
the goddess since her allies during the war were the Greeks. This lends itself to show that Helen could
be telling the truth about the goddesses having an argument about the beauty of each other and
Aphrodite forcing Helen to run away with Paris. Helen also helps her argument by pointing out that
the fight was preordained by the gods based on the prophecy about Paris, and then blames Paris s
mother and father for letting Paris live, rather than slaying Paris and trying to stop the prophecy from
coming true. Through the many effective arguments, Helen shows that she did not ask to be carried
away by Paris and that she liked Menelaus. Menelaus seems very weak compared to Helen, especially
since he seems to not be able to make up his mind whether to kill her or not. In the end, Menelaus
seems to decide on letting her live, though he still tells

In the start of the play, Othello, Iago is professing his hatred for Othello, for giving the lieutenant

her beauty is to perfect to describe and grasp. He praises her instead of lusting after her. Although this

lusts after women in a very beastial and aggressive manner. Even now, now very now, an old black

Classic Coming of Age Stories in A White Heron by Sarah...
Reading coming of age stories are always interesting and at times nastolgic. Coming of age stories
typically include a young protagonist forced to make a grown decision which is a transition to their
first move into adulthood. In a sense, these stories show the protagonist shifting from innocence to
gaining experiences. The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by
Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright. Both being coming of
age stories, they have similar features but were different in the sense that one protagonist seemed to
have made a shift into adulthood whereas one did not. Starting of with A White Heron , the story starts
with a mellow, quiet mood. Sylvia is walking in the woods with her companion, her cow. Jewett
includes words and phrases such as childish patience and the little girl that makes the reader grasp the
idea of Sylvia being a child. The fact that Sylvia hears the whistle of the stranger and hides also show
the idea of her being a young child. The first day meeting the stranger, Sylvia seems reserved and not

Technology
Some of the major trends in surrounding areas of organizational development in training and strategy
in Japan are mostly brought about by challenges. These challenges then lead to problem solving which
results to change thus new trends are formed. It is thus of great importance to discuss the macro issues
responsible for bringing about these trends. These may include changes in technology. Japan is among
the leading countries when it comes to science and technology; this puts Japan in a situation where it
is ever changing in terms of infrastructure and developments. Technology brings about new ideas into
reality, this leads to the organizations having to draft new ways to adopt.
When organizations are training their employees, the emerging trends do not allow them to leave

efficiency in work. The organization will tend to undertake those projects that are useful, and
resourceful, hence it will easily adapt to changes brought about by technology. Also these trends are in

Taking care of their dog and making sure he/she is giving the proper care is the most important thing
to a veterinary/vet. tech./assistant. Throughout this text one will begin to learn and note the key
aspects of dog grooming, along with that, they will be able to apply them to their skills. So why not
take this knowledge and make someone s dog s vet trip more of a relaxing spa day.
Before one can begin any type of grooming, applying for and getting the job at a vet, animal hospital,
etc. is a must. How can that be achieved? Well it s quite simple really, I m going to let you in on a few
key secrets that can...and will help you land the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At most vets or animal clinics there are small and large dogs, because of the size differences the small
and large dogs the grooming techniques differ. But lets hold on for a second. Before we even begin to
groom the dogs one should get to know the dog better. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a
few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to
get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real
grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points
to remember. Though the dog has familiarized themselves with you, they still may not want a bath. At
all cost do not force the dog to be bathed, in the end you are only going to stress out the dog and a
stress dog creates an even more frustrated groomer. The point was clearly stated in the quote The
reality is that few dogs were born loving baths, or even water. Resistance toward getting a bath can
stem from inexperience or a previous bathing debacle. Regardless of the reason, a calm demeanor and
gentle persistence are essential to keeping your pooch calm in the bathtub. SSS It gives a clear view
and why the dog may feel this way and how to correct it for a successful grooming. Once you have
gotten the dog to relax and stay calm you are ready to start. This first step is optional and mostly used
for dogs who have long fur, before applying any water grab a brush and brush through the fur, this
technique helps to lessen the amount of tangles the dog could have had or will have by the end of the
bath. Now you can go ahead to apply water all over the dog s body to get the fur nice and soaked.
After the dog has been soaked next is the shampoo, most vets use shampoos that help kill fleas, ticks,
and other vermin. Bring the shampoo to a lather and get it all over the dog,

Examples Of Justice And Punishment In King Lear
Justice, Punishment, and Mercy It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. One of
William Shakespeare s most famous and commonly used quotes is an important juxtaposition to how
Shakespeare wrote some of his plays, while it seems he did not believe as much in divine destiny or
action, but in the action of oneself physically, and how that affects one s life. In both King Lear and
Measure For Measure by Shakespeare, there are three very important themes that were influenced by
the times in which they were written justice, punishment, and mercy. The difference between the two
is in first play, those three themes are completed in divine actions, while in the second play the trio are
meted out by the actions of characters within the play. Punishment in the 1600 s was often a from of
public entertainment in larger towns and cities, and was used to display and humiliate criminals. The
acts committed by these criminals had a large range in severity, covering theft to sexual misdemeanors
and treason. A common problem with these punishments though was consistency. Shakespeare was
able to illustrate some of these inconsistencies in both of his plays Measure For Measure and King
Lear. Shakespeare not only was able to provide a beautiful form of entertainment to all of the separate
classes, while also appealing to educations of all levels and political and social issues without causing
uproar; what he was able to do is a mastery of writing and understanding of the

Racism In America Chapter 1 Summary
In Chapter 1, Alexander provides a brief history of race and racism in America. For those readers less
familiar with the narrative of American history, this tour through slavery, Bacon s Rebellion,
Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Populism, the end of Jim Crow through Board, and the Civil Rights
Movement of the 1950s and 1960s is very instructive. Even if this narrative sounds familiar though,
what comes next is probably less so. The backlash to the Civil Rights Movement manifested itself in
the Southern Strategy and the first construction of stereotypes such as lazy welfare cheats and black
criminals. Law and order rhetoric became a popular way to stoke hostility towards blacks; it was
carried out by conservatives to win votes among poor whites.

What Does Nigger Mean
Use of the N word
In America, racial slurs are used, frequently at that. The word nigger is a common derogatory word,
and that s when the discussion on whether or not the word should be freed come in. To put it another
way, some people see it as they mean no harm in saying it, and if it s in a popular rap song why not
sing along; while others see it as, the word was used by past opressores, and the word was used to talk
down upon African Americans, so there s no good intention in the use of the word. Ultimately, the
word nigger is and always will be a derogatory word, adolescents say it while talking about the
weather in society, the word just needs to be used at the bare minimum, there s absolutely no reason
for it and it shouldn t be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word in general has no other use but to refer to a black person, in a complete derogatory way, and
if everyone s equal why is the word used, when it s main reason is to differentiate one race from
another offensively? We have indirectly given a pass to a lot of people to just say it and sing along,
and it s confusing why only some see this as a problem. (Thompson) The word isn t in the dictionary
for it s good name, it s in there to show the negative image it once held strongly against black people.
The shackles had been taken off the ankles and wrapped around the mind. And she would say that we
were continuing the oppressors work, to put it another way, black people fought for equality for the
longest, and now in the 21st century, the use of the word nigger is repeating the words and
discrimination black people worked so hard to overcome. (Thompson) All in all, nigger is throwing
salt to the wounds to black people who faced oppression, not only do white people say it minorities do
also, and that s not right there s no redefying this word and there should be no hope of doing so, the
word needs to vanish and be forgotten, just like how people want slavery to be

The Gospel Of Wealth Analysis
The late 19th century was a time of rapid industrialization in the United States during which many
people developed different views towards wealth and the wealthy class. Three specific viewers who
had similar, but differentiating opinions of this were Andrew Carnegie, Eugene Debs, and Booker T.
Washington who believed that wealth could either enable people to rise in society or that it should be
distributed.
Andrew Carnegie was not only a hugely successful businessman, but a great philanthropist. With the
wealth that he acquired from the Carnegie Steel company, he promoted education and world peace.
Carnegie was perhaps one of the first people to publicly state that the wealthy had a moral obligation
to give away their fortunes. In 1889, he wrote The Gospel of Wealth ; in this book he argued that all
personal wealth that is not used to provide necessities for one s family should be treated as a trust fund
for the better of the community. Carnegie also built free public libraries in an effort to encourage self
education. Finally, Carnegie set up a number of trusts to continue his mission even after his death.

Washington, Eugene Debs s view on the growth of wealth during industrialization was a more
negative view of capitalism and more eager to change. In the 19th and early 20th century, he was the
leader of the American Railway Union and the Socialist Party. He believed in the rights of the worker
and the rights of the common man. He argued that wealth in the nation should be shared, which is
similar to the belief that Andrew Carnegie had. Debs saw that most of the rich remained rich and the
poor remained poor; throughout his life, he worked on trying to change this condition. This action is
seen when he led the Pullman Palace Car strike in order to obtain better conditions for the workers of
the Chicago railroad company since their wages were split in

Introduction: Acute meniscal tears may interfere with the normal biomechanics and functions of the
knee joint during motion and thus, may lead to severe pain accompanied by mechanical symptoms
throughout daily living activities as well as impairment of the quality of life.
Objectives: The main purpose of the present study was to identify the major predictors of the clinical
outcome following arthroscopic partial meniscectomy performed for acute trauma related medial
meniscal tear leading to mechanical symptoms in patients over 60 years of age.
Methods: In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 154 arthroscopic partial medial
meniscectomies performed for acute symptomatic tears in patients over 60 years of age were
evaluated. Body mass index (BMI), duration of symptoms, the hip knee ankle angle (HKA), type of

Pros And Cons Of Technology Based Society
With the world we live in today, it s not a secret that we are moving towards a more technological
based society. Just like with other aspects of life, there are pros and cons to this transition. First off,
with technology becoming more of a necessity in today s world, more people and businesses rely on
this for their daily lives and operations. For example, according to (Schiffer, 2017), a casino used an
internet connected fish tank to help keep track of the tank s temperature, cleanliness, and food. The
article goes on to tell how the casino s information was hacked by hackers accessing to the fish tank.
Personally, I was amazed by how the hackers could hack an entire casino, through one fish tank. On
the other hand, a technology based world can also make life easier. For example, Amazon has now
begun to use robots in their warehouses to sort and pick items. Although this may threaten some
employee s jobs, these machines are easier to operate and can be monitored more closely than an
employee. The fish tank in the casino and the robots that Amazon use are classified as the Internet of
Things.
According to (Cornish, 2017), the internet of things refers to electronic devices that transmits
information back and forth of the internet. These items include but are not limited to Fitbits and
Amazon Echo with Alexa. I personally own an Amazon Echo and I can say that I love using it. Using
only your voice, it can play music, call someone, or even search the Internet. With the

Gandhi And The Life Of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Bapu (the father of the nation) and Mahatma (the great
soul) was born at Porbandar on 2nd October, 1869. Karamchand was his father and Putlibai was his
mother. His father was a hereditary diwan of a petty princely state in erstwhile Kathiwara. His mother
was a pious, God fearing, devout and simple lady given to traditional religious practices such as
prayers, reciting of God s names, counting rosary beads etc. They belonged to the caste of Vaishya. In
London, he had a very unhappy and restless life as he felt like a square peg in a round hole in the so
sophisticated English society and milieu. He remained almost an outcast although he tried to ape the
English youth. All his attempts to become a fashionable English gentleman again proved a
misadventure as his attempts to smoke and eating meat had proved earlier in India. Therefore, he gave
up these attempts of becoming a gentleman and decided to follow his own nature. There he read
Barnard Shaw s Plea for Vegetarianism and declared, From the day of reading this book, I may claim
to have become a vegetarian by choice the spread of which became my mission. He also set up a
vegetarian club there and one day invited Sir Adwin Arnold to become the club s Vice president. In
1891, he passed his Bar at Law examination and in the summer of the same year returned to India, to
his great relief, and he was called to the Bar at Bombay but again as a practitioner of law, he proved a

How Vietnam War Affected America
The United States war with Vietnam was undoubtedly a different kind of war . Guerilla tactics and a
largely jungle environment throughout the theatre of Vietnam made this a supremely unique conflict in
the annals of American military history. Faced with this type of unique enemy and terrain, the
American Armed Forces undoubtedly had to evolve and adapt their tactics accordingly. One element
that is particularly extraordinary and exclusive to the Vietnam War is the development of highly
organized scout sniper training. Prior to the Vietnam War, the United States had zero trained snipers.
By the time the War had ended, trained American snipers had killed more than 13,000 enemy soldiers.
The impact of these efforts must be examined on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost immediately, the program began churning out success stories. This new type of warfare was
utterly foreign to many Marines. Lying and waiting on a near invisible enemy to appear and
subsequently pulling the trigger only once as opposed to large scale firefights was counterintuitive
during this time period. Nevertheless, the Marine Corps managed to find marksmen who also
possessed qualities such as patience, unwavering nerves, and a great deal of confidence. Due to the
dire need for snipers at this point in the war, enlisted men spent only three weeks in Land s sniper
training program. Despite the haste in which these men were trained, the 17 original snipers in the 1st
Brigade rack up more enemy kills than any other Corps combat battalion in their first three months in
the field. The most striking advantage such successful organized sniping brought to American forces
was its sheer economic efficiency. In what is often viewed as a war of excess; a war of tremendous
financial and human cost, organized scout sniping offered a tremendous amount of value to the United
States Armed Forces. According to figures released by the Department of Defense, the average
number of rounds expended in Vietnam to kill one enemy solder with the M 16 was 50,000. The
average number of rounds expended by U.S. military snipers to kill one enemy soldier was 1.3 rounds.
That s a cost difference of $23,000 per kill for

My Hockey Lesson Lessons
When life gets hard, get hard back. This is the lesson I have learned through this last hockey season.
My coach, my teammates, my parents, all taught me this one lesson and from this, I became a better,
athlete, student, and probably the most important a better person. Through this essay, I will share this
lesson and how it applies to my story and hopefully, it can apply to your story as well. In 8th grade I
moved here to Camas from a small town in Alaska where hockey was a lifestyle. We moved after
tryouts however so I couldn t play that season. Over the summer I decided to go out for the team
pretty confident that I would be the best player on the team because who ever heard of big hockey in
Vancouver? That was the most I ve been wrong in a long time. The first day of tryouts I could barely
skate backwards due to not playing an entire season and I was completely blown out of the water by
my new team. Looking back they weren t even that good to be honest but compared to me at the time
they could have been NHL All Stars. That was just the beginning of one of the biggest life lessons I
would learn. My 5th practice of the season I got into a fight with one of my teammates because he
came over and started yelling at me for screwing up the drill. This was an enormous shock to me for
two reasons, first one is because it was my first hockey fight and second because it was an enormous
transition to go from being one of the best on your old team to coming to a new one and

  • 2. Essay on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Some time ago, I decided to read Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, by Jules Verne. I figured that because it was so well known it must be an extremely interesting book. In addition, it was science fiction, the one area that I was always interested. My assumption was only partially correct, for I only was to a degree interested in the piece of writing. When Jules Verne was writing this book, he must have been reading some incredibly dull science book the day before, for that was what the book was written as. The style of writing was utterly against my tastes, and though the plot was moderately interesting, the style of writing really ruined it. Often, the author will trail off describing some ... For many months they searched, but could not find this Narwhale anywhere. When they found it, it attacked the ship, disabling it, and sending M. Aronnax, Ned Land (a harpooner) and Conseil (servant of Pierre) overboard. Soon, the three were guests in the Narwhale, now known to be a ship, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo. During the stay aboard the Nautilus, Pierre Conseil and Ned encounter and discover many wonderful and interesting facts from the sea. Often, they would accompany the captain in an under water expedition. Several of these excursions were to hunt, and others were simply to explore a submarine region. One of the times when the purpose was just to investigate an underwater region, Captain Nemo and M. Aronnax explored the lost city of Atlantis. On a separate occasion, Pierre found that there was a supply of coal underwater that the Nautilus used as a source of fuel. In addition to underwater excursions, the Nautilus itself was on a round the world journey, which accounted for the most exiting time of the book. This was when Captain Nemo was attempting to access the South Pole. That meant passing the Great Ice Barrier, and surviving with very little air. During this rather long voyage, the submarine gets wedged between two icebergs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Development Of Gifted Adolescents Development Script When it comes to development, there are many different forms. A person goes through not only physical and intellectual development but also emotional and even social development. While some develop efficiently in all areas, others can encounter issues with their development in some or even all areas. No matter how one develops though there is always questions about it. How it all works, what to expect, and even why one is not developing in a certain way or like another person. Imagine you are a parent, how would you explain these developments to your child? What would you tell them about the changes they may encounter physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially? Physically Although gifted adolescents have a way of viewing things differently than that of an average adolescence, they still face the same physical changes. As the parent of a 14 year old smart girl, it is important to approach the subject with honesty and maturity not to insult her intelligence. Explain to her that the increase in the size of her hips, breast, and the addition of pubic hair, are all characteristics of her sexual identity. Reassure her that the beginning of her menstrual cycle is normal for a girl that is leaving childhood and entering into the stage of adolescents. Discuss the new feelings that she may be experiencing, allow her to express these feelings openly. Intellectually On the intellect side of development, that occurs throughout one s entire ... Final Written Report Purpose and Audience A final report is usually the last stage in some sort of problem identification/problem solving process, or, at least, an evaluative process. Within business organizations, the audience is usually a two part one: the staff who will be charged with acting on your findings, and the executives who want to be able to grasp quickly the gist of your report and to act accordingly. In order to satisfy both these audiences, your report needs to be prepared in full detail for the former audience, although as briefly and concisely as is consonant with that goal; and in intelligent summary form for the latter audience, usually as an executive summary. Form and Organization The most common flaw in reports made in business organizations, whether in written or oral form, is that they are too linear. That is, they are organized in a pattern reflecting the process the investigator (s) followed in conducting the study. You ll want to write instead for readers who want their concerns emphasized, and not be

  • 6. Slavery American Slavery Slavery in America has always been a widely discussed topic. Many of these discussions have be focus on why slavery grew so rapidly between the late 1700 s and the mid 1800 s just before the Civil War. The number of slaves in the south during the late 1700 s was approximately 500,000, this number grew to almost four million by the 1860 s. There is evidence to support that the perpetuation and expansion of black slavery in the United States between 1776 and 1860 was influenced by greed, a since of white superiority, and legislation. A combination that would lead to an eventual civil war. Greed was a major driving force in the expansion of black slavery in the in the 18th and 19th centuries. This expansion of slavery was a cycle that would perpetuate itself. Plantation owners would realize early on that the ownership of slave would increase their socioeconomic status and the greed for this status was enormous. The use of slaves would create higher profit margins for the plantation owners. With higher profits, plantation owners could purchase more land, and with more land came the need for more labor (slaves) to operate the larger plantation. A larger plantation would lead to owner coming into power within the local government as a top land owner. The political power that came with local government leadership also became lusted after. At the time, the greed for more money birthed the greed for more land, the greed for more land birthed the greed for political power. All of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The negative effects can be seen in that competition for jobs in American society is so competitive that author John Michael Roberts asserts that people, Work for free (28). While Americans tend to believe that competition brings out the best in people, the Marxist theory states that it actually brings out the worst in people such as greed, selfishness, and unethical actions. This can be seen by how the characters of The Lesson and Callie s family are living in extreme poverty despite being in the richest nations in the world. Danzinger and Danzinger assert, The child poverty rate in the US is high in relation to the rate in other industrialized countries (57). This high poverty rate can be seen in The Lesson and it shows how competition can leave some people at the bottom even in New York, one of the richest states in the United States. Miss Moore sees that it is unjust for kids to be living in such poverty and says, Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people spend on a toy what it would cost to feed a family of six or seven ( The Lesson , Bambara 151). Acknowledging the failure of isolation, Japan imitated the West in an attempt to modernize, however, still retaining its own identity. A reorganized and more centralized government allowed Japan to industrialize in half the time it took the nations of Western Europe. Whereas a middle paragraph is more like a block, it starts out with a broad statement but elaborates instead of narrowing down. The main purpose is to explain the points in your thesis by not confusing the reader. Paragraphing keeps each point separated so that one big block of explaining does not bore your reader, it also helps the writer explain his point. One of the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical uses of HSCs. The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice, which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions, such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells. Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done, ... I believe the book of Jonah intends to teach us that God is a gracious and merciful Lord who will grant salvation to those who desire to repent, by the virtue of; accepting the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul. This idea is evident by the content of the book. First, we understand that one cannot seek God and flee from him simultaneously. He wants us to obey his will even if adversity chooses to arise. However, Jonah refuses the Lord s will and chooses to disobey him. Consequently, Jonah is thrown overboard and swallowed by a fish. Although, once Jonah prays for forgiveness the Lord grants it. Subsequently, Jonah preaches the gospel and the king of Nineveh as well as his people repent to the Lord and forgives. This angers Jonah, even though the Lord forgave Jonah of his atrocious act just as he did with the Ninevites. From driving to the store, which street to take to get there the fastest, to selecting that perfect item at the high tech store, the newest digital gadget. It is in our nature to formulate this kind of behavior when we are given a choice. In an organization it is much harder to accomplish that same behavior because there is more than one individual in the process, but still possible to do. • 16. Write Your Own Rock Song In most instances, a listener strives to find a song that is simultaneously culturally and socially conscious, while having a listenability that allows the song to be played at any time or any place. For the above song, I took a pointedly socially and culturally approach to the socioeconomic inequalities that persist in the United States, using subtle and themes of freedom and hardship, while concurrently using the not so subtle theme of class differences to convey the differences between social classes in our society. The lyrics provide the potential listener with a juxtaposition of someone who invariably questions their place in society in comparison with an individual who seems to have everything they could ever need or want, hence the inclusion of (Mercedes) Benz in the second verse. The lyrics are written in simple verse form and intentionally have the last two lines of the first verse rhyming with each other, as well as the first two lines of the second verse rhyming with one another. The rhyming is meant to emphasis the restraints that lower class people have in terms of social mobility and the freedom those in upper classes enjoy on a daily basis. The end and Benz creates a slant rhyme that resembles the perpetual cycle of poverty in contrast with someone who is sad about their luxury car being out of commission. Given the form of the lyrics and their social connections, the options for music selection and instrumentation varied across genre and sound. For the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Tay Sachs Disease Essay Tay Sachs is an incurable genetic disease that affects the central nervous system. It is a rare disorder that occurs chiefly in infants and children, especially those of the Jewish heritage. It is characterized by a red spot in the retina, paralysis, gradual blindness, and loss of muscle movement. Tay Sachs can only be inherited, which means it is passed from parents to child only. The process begins in the fetus, very early in pregnancy. However, the disease does not become physically apparent until the child is several months old. Tay Sachs is caused by the absence of a vital enzyme, called the Hex A gene, which is in chromosome 15. This gene plays an important role in the nervous system. It breaks down the fatty substance called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents who suspect they might be at risk are strongly encouraged to be tested before pregnancy. If the tests do detect the Hex A gene, then the baby is perfectly healthy. Between the 10th and 12th weeks of pregnancy, an expectant mother can get a chorionic villus sampling or CVS. In this procedure, a small sample of the placenta is drawn into a needle or small tube for analysis. Between 15 18 weeks of a pregnancy, an expecting mother could have an amniocentesis to test for the Hex A mutation. This test involves a needle that is inserted into the mother s belly to draw a sample of amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus. Children are usually tested for Tay Sachs after having hearing, sight, and movement problems. The disease can be identified by a doctor through blood tests and screening. Children affected by Tay Sachs disease are born seemingly normal and develop like any other child in the first three to six months of life. Throughout the next month, and sometimes even years, the baby will progressively lose the ability to see, hear, and move. The child will develop a cherry colored red spot in the back of the eye and they lose or never even gain important motor and mental skills. • 22. Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s, adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass. Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the 1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer of Spanish art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Utilising a wide range of sources critically evaluate and discuss the following statement: Dangerousness is said to be socially constructed. Dangerousness is a term that is used in various settings such as legal, academic, administrative and popular discourse (Bennett, n.d:3.). The meaning of the term can vary throughout the different settings (ibid). In criminology the term often corresponds with acts of violence, and is used to label an offenders potential level of risk of harm they may cause (Farrington and Tarling, 1985:175). Someone who is labelled as dangerous is thought to pose as a threat or risk to society. However, dangerousness is not easily defined; it can actually cover a range of factors; which makes it more of an umbrella term. For example, three distinct constructs such as risk factors, potential harm, and risk level are used to determine dangerousness (Greene and Wrightsman, 2007:263). Nevertheless, even though the term lacks a clear and concise definition, it is used on a daily basis to make very important decisions regarding offenders who have been previously convicted of a specified offence such as, a violent offence, or a sexual offence (Legislation.gov.uk, 2003). Society is becoming increasingly obsessed with danger or risks to health and safety, and anxiety and fear are becoming a more dominated feature in everyday life (Furedi, 2007:198). To which Poseidon replies, You re so fickle. Your mind leaps here and there: now you hate, and now you love, and both in excess. (Euripides 65). Consequently, individuals have been involved in the decision making process, in order to address the issue of Water management. This is evident through the measures Australian individuals take to ensure sustainability. The effective management of water quantity is an urgent issue facing Australia. Therefore, in response, various groups have been involved in the decision making process addressing the issue. Supplying Sydney with fresh, abundant and high in quality water is a significant geographical issue. A range of organisations have the responsibility for water management and addressing the issues that come along with it. Different groups target different issues such as the quality, quantity, recycling the water, conserving it and educating communities about the issue. Various groups that have been involved in the decision making process include The Australian Water Association, Water Group, Every Drop Counts Business Program and The water management (WM) chair group. Since then, the story has been re discovered, imitated, and adapted hundreds of times. In doing so, not only is the story of Anne Shirley kept alive but also generations of fandoms are connected through ever evolving forms of media representation and relevant interpretations of the story. Although the fandom has no official name or recognition in the eyes of scholars, it is undoubtedly a presence that continues to grow and influence the way readers perceive Montgomery s timeless tale. In the start of the play, Othello, Iago is professing his hatred for Othello, for giving the lieutenant position to Cassio over himself. Shakespeare uses this hatred to show that Cassio is clearly favored in the army, because he is very inexperienced for the promotion, and is probably a sweet talker that others usually enjoy their presence. Cassio and Iago are foil characters to each other; a foil is a character is one that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the traits of the other character. Iago is very self motivated, devious, and is a ringleader for trouble. In contrast, Cassio is respectful, polite toward women, and truthful. William Shakespeare introduces ... He praises her instead of lusting after her. Although this is one of the best qualities a man could have toward a woman, Iago is going to play the puppeteer and manipulate this quality Cassio has to get revenge on Othello for not promoting him. In contrast, Iago lusts after women in a very beastial and aggressive manner. Even now, now very now, an old black ram/ Is tupping your white ewe (I.i.97 98). When spilling the truth about Othello and Desdemona s marriage, he screams up to her father s window howling inappropiate, racial, and beastial description that proves his lust and sexuality toward woman. This once again foreshadows that Iago is willing to take the respectful and honest Cassio down as long as he get what he wants in the end, Desdemona. William Shakespeare introduces Cassio as an honest and respectful man in order to juxtapose the villainous and revenge seeking Iago through foil characters. Axial View Of The Trial Of Socrates In Plato s account of the trial of Socrates he wrote, It is intimation that what has happened to me is good, and that those of us who think death is an evil are in error (Plato 112). • 36. Classic Coming of Age Stories in A White Heron by Sarah... Reading coming of age stories are always interesting and at times nastolgic. Coming of age stories typically include a young protagonist forced to make a grown decision which is a transition to their first move into adulthood. In a sense, these stories show the protagonist shifting from innocence to gaining experiences. The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright. Both being coming of age stories, they have similar features but were different in the sense that one protagonist seemed to have made a shift into adulthood whereas one did not. Starting of with A White Heron , the story starts with a mellow, quiet mood. Sylvia is walking in the woods with her companion, her cow. Jewett includes words and phrases such as childish patience and the little girl that makes the reader grasp the idea of Sylvia being a child. The fact that Sylvia hears the whistle of the stranger and hides also show the idea of her being a young child. The first day meeting the stranger, Sylvia seems reserved and not paying much attention to him talking about the white heron, even when he confesses to pay ten dollar for anyone who helps him find it. Soon enough, Sylvia develops a crush on the hunter. She does go in the woods with him for his needs to find the white heron but she does not disclose where the bird could be, it seemed as if she just wanted to enjoy his company. These challenges then lead to problem solving which results to change thus new trends are formed. It is thus of great importance to discuss the macro issues responsible for bringing about these trends. These may include changes in technology. Japan is among the leading countries when it comes to science and technology; this puts Japan in a situation where it is ever changing in terms of infrastructure and developments. Technology brings about new ideas into reality, this leads to the organizations having to draft new ways to adopt. When organizations are training their employees, the emerging trends do not allow them to leave technology behind; this includes the use of mobile phones and online training. The result is increased efficiency in work. The organization will tend to undertake those projects that are useful, and resourceful, hence it will easily adapt to changes brought about by technology. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points to remember. • 40. Examples Of Justice And Punishment In King Lear Justice, Punishment, and Mercy It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. One of William Shakespeare s most famous and commonly used quotes is an important juxtaposition to how Shakespeare wrote some of his plays, while it seems he did not believe as much in divine destiny or action, but in the action of oneself physically, and how that affects one s life. In both King Lear and Measure For Measure by Shakespeare, there are three very important themes that were influenced by the times in which they were written justice, punishment, and mercy. The difference between the two is in first play, those three themes are completed in divine actions, while in the second play the trio are meted out by the actions of characters within the play. Punishment in the 1600 s was often a from of public entertainment in larger towns and cities, and was used to display and humiliate criminals. The acts committed by these criminals had a large range in severity, covering theft to sexual misdemeanors and treason. A common problem with these punishments though was consistency. Shakespeare was able to illustrate some of these inconsistencies in both of his plays Measure For Measure and King Lear. Shakespeare not only was able to provide a beautiful form of entertainment to all of the separate classes, while also appealing to educations of all levels and political and social issues without causing uproar; what he was able to do is a mastery of writing and understanding of the ... The Gospel Of Wealth Analysis The late 19th century was a time of rapid industrialization in the United States during which many people developed different views towards wealth and the wealthy class. Three specific viewers who had similar, but differentiating opinions of this were Andrew Carnegie, Eugene Debs, and Booker T. Washington who believed that wealth could either enable people to rise in society or that it should be distributed. Andrew Carnegie was not only a hugely successful businessman, but a great philanthropist. With the wealth that he acquired from the Carnegie Steel company, he promoted education and world peace. Carnegie was perhaps one of the first people to publicly state that the wealthy had a moral obligation to give away their fortunes. In 1889, he wrote The Gospel of Wealth ; in this book he argued that all personal wealth that is not used to provide necessities for one s family should be treated as a trust fund for the better of the community. Just like with other aspects of life, there are pros and cons to this transition. First off, with technology becoming more of a necessity in today s world, more people and businesses rely on this for their daily lives and operations. For example, according to (Schiffer, 2017), a casino used an internet connected fish tank to help keep track of the tank s temperature, cleanliness, and food. The article goes on to tell how the casino s information was hacked by hackers accessing to the fish tank. Personally, I was amazed by how the hackers could hack an entire casino, through one fish tank. On the other hand, a technology based world can also make life easier. For example, Amazon has now begun to use robots in their warehouses to sort and pick items. Although this may threaten some employee s jobs, these machines are easier to operate and can be monitored more closely than an employee. The fish tank in the casino and the robots that Amazon use are classified as the Internet of Things. Guerilla tactics and a largely jungle environment throughout the theatre of Vietnam made this a supremely unique conflict in the annals of American military history. One element that is particularly extraordinary and exclusive to the Vietnam War is the development of highly organized scout sniper training.
