Origins Of The Periodic Table
As we know, today there are one hundred and eighteen elements on the periodic table of elements, but
it didn t start out like this. Robert Boyle, a scientist, discovered the element phosphorus in 1680. Also,
in this year the element became known to the public. By the year of 1809, the number of elements
discovered at the time was up to 47. Also, scientists began to see a pattern in the characteristics of the
elements. Later in 1863, The 56 elements discovered at the time were then divided into 11 groups
based on their characteristics by an english chemist named John Newlands. In the year 1869 a Russian
chemist by the name of Dimitri Mendeleev started the making of the periodic table. He started by
rearranging the elements in order of atomic mass. He also expected the discovery of other elements, so
he decided to leave empty spaces in his table so he could add new elements later. In 1894, the noble
gases were discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Lord Rayleigh. The noble gases were added to the
periodic table in a group labeled 0. Eventually in 1945, Glenn Seaborg discovered and identified
lanthanides and actinides. The Lanthanides were the elements with atomic numbers greater than 57
and lower than 71. The Actinides were elements greater than 92. These elements today are located
underneath the periodic table (refer to figure 1). The last major change to the periodic table occurred
in the 20th century due to the work of Glenn Seaborg. starting with his

Cameroon Research Paper
2.2.1 Cameroon Cameroon is situated by the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa. With Nigeria
located towards the west side Chad and the Central African Republic remain towards the east, whilst
the People s Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon situate towards the south. These
different populations of Cameroon are categorised simply into south, west and north groups. It s area
equates to 179,527 square miles (approximately 465,000 square kilometers). Along the Nigerian
border the Kirdi live in round homes with some villages constructed along the sides of cliffs. They
maintain their traditional religious beliefs. In the north the Fulani are dominant and make up around a
tenth of Cameroon s population. Originally cattle herders they have settled in one place as farmers and
merchants. The Choa, Katoko and Kirdi all live in the northernmost regions. Bamoun and the
Bamiléké are groups part of the western highlands. The Bamiléké are known for their farming skills
and their spirit focused traditional religion. As a result of centuries south groups of Bantu speakers

A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View
A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up to her
death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but it is more
likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the townsfolk. The
point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss Emily Grierson
because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss Emily as being viewed as a
fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was a tradition, a duty and a care
(79). This is the first example the reader gets of the narrators conflicting bias towards Miss Emily. It is
likely that when she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and in
her buildings. When the smell eventually disappears the narrator states that the town began to feel
sorry for her because of the madness that ran in her family. The narrator almost immediately
contradicts himself by stating that it was believed the Griersons held themselves a little too high for
what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing because now
she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a penny more or less
(81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for as long as possible and
claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were about to resort to law, she broke
down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes sympathetic after, stating that we were
sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process, even saying We did not say she was crazy then.
We believed she had to do that. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we
knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will
(81). This shows another inaccurate view of the towns opinion of Miss Emily at this point in time,
because not everyone in Jefferson would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she
wasn t crazy. The narrator groups everyone in Jefferson together, making the town as a whole a
character by generalizing what would have been their opinions or

The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles
Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining
popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent
innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about
emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are
expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing
process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the
environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global
warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more
effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant.
There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of
them agree. Some only analyze part of the broader issue, while others seem to have obvious biases as
the center of their argument. One article, Electric Vehicles: Just How Green Are They? by Pamela
Worth explains that the average gasoline powered vehicle gets 29 miles per gallon. Worth uses this
statistic to show that after production, electric vehicles are cleaner than the average gasoline powered
vehicle in all areas of the United States (Worth). Another piece, Gasoline vs

Scotland By Professor Rab Houston
This essay is a critical evaluation of the book, Scotland: A Very Short Introduction (hereafter
Scotland) by Professor Rab Houston (Houston 2008). In the argumentative essay I intend to use this
source mainly for historical context and background colour. In this evaluation, I focus on two criteria:
first, I investigate whether this book represents a credible source: I will examine the authorship,
publication and intentions of the work in order to evaluate whether there are any objections to the use
of this source in terms of objectivity or rigorousness. Second, I briefly discuss the content of the work
in order to decide whether the information within will be of use in an argumentative essay about the
issue of Scottish independence.
Professor Houston is Professor of History at St Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of
nine books and over 80 academic articles and book chapters (University of St Andrews n.d.). Despite
these seemingly impeccable academic credentials, it has been stated that his commission to write this
work was the cause of outrage in some parts of the academic community. Critics point to the facts that

The Man Cave Case Study
 Briefly summarize the case. Brad and Julie worked hard to get a home they wanted and it took them
two years to get the man cave Brad had always wanted. With this man cave, they were able to put in
some valuable pieces into the man cave and it was a showcase for this family. One day they had a fire
in the home and it cause major damage to the man cave, to the point of having to start over and rebuild
the basement. They were able to rent a house from a family that would have lost the home if they had
not rented this home. Thus, they was able to help the family out. They looked at what they wanted to
do with the home and redid the man cave into a family cave.  What are some key principles or

because they believe there s no such thing as killing with a good intention to help the patient. If the

Descriptive Language In The Contender By Robert Lipsyte
Description begins in the writer s imagination, but should finish in the reader s. Stephen King.
Descriptive language helps to create a picture in the reader s mind. Authors can create descriptive
language through narration or dialogue. In the novel The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, the author
uses descriptive language and dialogue to develop the characters and the setting. In The Contender, the
author Robert Lipsyte uses descriptive language throughout the whole story. One example of
descriptive language in the story is on page 47. It says, The second sit up was harder than the first, and
the third was harder still. But by the fourth sit up his muscles began to get warm, like a car engine
heating up on a cold morning.. In the text it says that each sit up was harder than the last but by the
last sit up he began to get used to it. This quote shows you what the character, Alfred, is doing and
how it felt to do the activity he was doing physically. A second example of descriptive language in the
story is on page 54. It says, Alfred caught his breath. It was huge. It was almost a circle, and the seats
rose right up the walls toward a ceiling of cables and beams. In the center of the floor, gleaming white
under hundreds of spotlights, was the ring. The ropes were wrapped in velvet. In this quote the author
is trying to paint a picture in the reader s mind by using descriptive words like huge and wrapped in

Essay about Response to Article about the Capsaicin Receptor
The Summary of The capsaicin receptor: a heat activated ion channel in the pain pathway
Capsaicin is a natural product of capsicum peppers, that is an active ingredient in many hot foods.
When nociceptors neurons that transmit information regarding tissue damage to pain processing
centers in the spinal cord and brain come in contact with capsaicin, the neuron gets excited, and there
is a perception of pain, and the a local release of inflammatory mediators. These nociceptors get
excited by increasing permeability of plasma membrane to cations, but the molecular mechanism
explaining this phenomenon is unclear. Capsaicin is being used in an analgesic agent in the treatment
of painful disorders, causing long term loss of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because capsaicin has the ability to trigger robust calcium influx into sensory neurons in vitro, a
cloning strategy was contrived. Since capsaicin responsiveness seemed to be confined to nociceptive
neurons with cell bodies that resided within sensory ganglia, a cDNA library was constructed from
dorsal root ganglion derived messenger RNA. The pools consisted of 16,000 clones in each, and was
transfected in human embryonic kidney derived HEK193, and the transfected cells were filled with the
fluorescent calcium sensitive dye Fura 2 (emits light when in contact with Calcium), and examined for
capsaicin evoked changes in intracellular calcium levels. When a positive pool was found, it was
reassayed, repeating the process over and over, until an individual clone containing a 3 kilobase cDNA
insert was weeded out, which conferred capsaicin or resiniferatoxin. It was determined that this was
the DNA encoded aminoacid sequence of the protein that comprises the capsaicin receptor. Since the
vanilloid group chemically represents capsaicin, it was called VR1. The scientists compared the
pharmacological properties of the cloned receptor to those of native vanilloid sites in sensory ganglia.
They examined the electrophysiological responses to a variety of vanilloid agonaists and antagonists.
It was concluded that capsaicin and resiniferatoxin activate the current, while capsazepine, and
synthetic antagonist, blocks the

There are numerous disabilities that exist in the world today that can affect people s physical or mental

discrimination and segregation in society. Even regardless of the societal barriers that exist against

Art or art therapy has the power to help people in general in terms of expression and combating
depression. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they are
unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release of
negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is solely based
on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities tend to be less
judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Thus, it can be seen that
these are good reasons why a person with disabilities might want to join the artistic sphere. Scientific
research has shown that art does have meditative effects where it renders stress to relaxation in a
person s physiology. In different researches, changes in brain wave patterns, autonomic nervous
system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitter have occurred as a result of listening to music
(Zahovaeva, 2014). Art in medicine is not a new concept, ancient rites of healing were performed hand
in hand with music, dance and drama to emphasize the healing process (Zahovaeva, 2014). Within the
context of disability studies, this proves to be greatly advantageous because art is both beneficial in
terms of its ability to affect psychological as well as physiological side of people. Rubinstein, a
Russian psychologist, claimed that

All Quiet on the Western Front by Ericha Maria Remarque
I think it [war] is more of a kind of fever. No one in particular wants it, and then all at once there it is.
We didn t want the war, the others say the same thing and yet half the world is in it all the same. (206)
Erich Remarque describes how war is an odd sort of happening through Albert Kropp, one of the most
intelligent young men of Paul Bäumer s company. Remarque, himself a German World War 1 veteran,
uses the characters of Paul s company to channel his frustrations from his experiences during the war.
The vivid imagery used to describe bombardments and life at the front allows the reader to visualize
the reality of warfare. It s bloody, messy, and repulsive. Extreme detail aids Remarque in exposing the
atrocities of war, and its repercussions. All Quiet on the Western Front focuses on an anti war theme,
and how war itself has no purpose other than to be savage and wasteful.
Some aspects of the novel serve as symbol for important things Remarque would like the audience to
note. Kemmerich s boots are the most prominent example. The soft leather boots are passed down
from man to man after one dies, and it isn t thought of in depth. Kemmerich takes them from a
deceased airman, and after he dies, Müller is the owner. Paul then inherits the boots from Müller. The
footwear symbolises the nonchalance of war, and how one must remain practical. Paul realizes this as
he observes Müller hound Kemmerich for his boots. Schoolmaster Kantorek, the old teacher of Paul,

Moreover, the frontal lobe of the brain is playing an essential role in controlling individual s behavior,
but the sad is it can only develop up to an age of 20. If children s frontal lobe is underdeveloped or
damaged, the things they do will be always improper, but in contrast if the frontal lobe is stimulated,
its fibrous tissue will grow and get thick that will help a lot on keeping their behavior in order. Video
games stunt the development of the frontal lobe in brain, which is very harmful to next generation of a
nation. Video games also have negative impacts on other parts of brain which are responsible for
sensory, emotion and visual perception. A Strong impulse of sound and light in video games can
directly divert the children s attention. In order to achieve an attractive effect, video games are often
colorful and stereotyped. When there is too much stimulus on visual and auditory, the children s
sensory function will be attenuated and sluggish to react. Additionally, many people argued that there
is a direct connection between children playing violent video games and becoming more violent on
their behavior. In an experiment, two groups of children were tested and they are separated by three to
six months. The purpose of this experiment is to assess the participants video games habits and

How Does Photography Affect The World
With the development of modern technology, cameras have now become an optical instrument for
recording or capturing images, which can be stored locally, transmitted to other locations or even both.
Since that, photography starts to appear as a common activity for people to play with and it is also one
of the most outstanding factors to affect different countries with architectural style. The first thing that
photo affect us is the cultural identity and personal characteristics, people nowadays are gradually
losing their personal identity along with the development of photography. Secondly, through the

We regard ourself as some virtual characters on social media, we post photos of ourself, the food we
eat or maybe just some random photos we take, all of these photos become a part of ourselves.
However, people always want to show the good side of themselves, so photography and internet
become a perfect tool to get rid of all the bad defects. In other words, everyone is building a new self
through the internet. One perfect example would be the software Photoshop, photoshop was originally
innovated to show grayscale images on a monochrome display, and later on, developed into a full

or face lifting .No wonder Photoshop is named to be an unnatural tool, it is hard to distinguish the
truth behind a photo, in which can cause people to recognize themselves in a wrong way. From the
article to what extent does photoshop affect society written by Nikol, it says, Daily, we are bombarded
by the appearance of flawless celebrities in television, advertisements, and commercials. This wrong
perception of a perfect body has led to the creation of numerous campaigns that are fighting the use of

cash and cash equivalents that are equal to current debt. Current ratio above 1 defines that company
has sufficient cash and cash equivalents to pay back the current liabilities. While current ratio below 1
define that company lack of cash and cash equivalents to pay back the current liabilities. In 2001

The Reform Movements of America
American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different reform
movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement, prison
movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced together, there
may initially seem to be little connection between these various different movements. However, they
were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the human spirit. This idea that all
humans should be free provided the support for all of the different movements. The temperance
movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from its own vices. The education
movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform movement was not based on physical
liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not
create any possibility of change in the inmates. The women s rights movement was based upon the
notion that women should not be treated as inferior to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery
movement did not focus solely on the idea that slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it
deprived people of their physical liberty without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in
the antebellum South and the indignities that accompanied it. The temperance movement is one of the
least understood of all the reform movements because, while it had a tremendous impact on American
society, its

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny
As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings
of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors
texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A
Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she
continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself.
Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant

Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he
gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his
character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished.
Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has
written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is
sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a
pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and
sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her
paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley
Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche,
however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of
nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the
play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias.
After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for
all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between

Carbon Nanotubes
Carbon is the fundamental element for everything on Earth. All life on Earth depends on carbon.
Carbon has different forms of allotropes including diamond, graphene and charcoal. Carbon is found
in position 12, with 4 colvalent electrons. All the allotropes have different properties nd uses due to
how the carbon atoms are bonded. Carbon is able to single, double and triple bond with other elements
to form complex molecules. Carbon can also use its four electrons to form diamond, where it is strong
and stable, or three electrons to form graphite found in pencils, buckyball or all forms of nanocarbon
including carbon nanotube.
Diamond has a giant molecular structure. Each carbon atom is covalently bonded to four other carbon

Entropy Research Paper
Entropy and Energy Density in A Finite and Infinite Dimensional Universe
Entropy, or disorder, is increasing in the universe and aims to do so until it reaches its maximum limit
or capacity [1]. Energy density, on the other hand, is the amount of energy stored per a given volume
of space [2]. While the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant [3], energy density
decreases as the universe continues to expand.
In an infinite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand indefinitely in all
directions, entropy will continue to increase until it eventually reaches its maximum. When this
happens, all energy would have been transformed into the same type of energy and dispersed equally
throughout the whole universe. This would happen because if entropy has reached its maximum limit,
then everything would have already been disordered to its maximum limit. At this point, the whole
universe would then be in equilibrium: the Heat Death of the Universe [4]. Another possible outcome
is that, as the universe is expanding indefinitely, then entropy will also increase indefinitely and will
not be able to reach its maximum limit.
On the other hand, in a finite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand only
until a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

universe will reach its minimum in the finite dimensional universe, as there will no longer be space for

density of the universe will begin to increase again as the volume of the universe continues to decrease

launched an education resource which highlights the inspiring contributions and successes of refugees
settling in Australia. Title, Celebration of Refugee Lives : Stories of Strength and Resilience , it

families and identify steps to improve family settlement outcomes. Past projects found that the issues
of family conflict, violence and separation in settlement have become one of the most pressing
problems experienced by refugee families settling in Australia. This is exacerbated by other challenges
such as inadequate and overcrowded housing, language difficulties, unemployment and trouble

Social Problems Of The Social Problem
One major social problem that concerns me is social division. Social divisions include but are not
limited to: gender, race, class, identity, language barriers, and geographical locations. They are often
separated into categories of people. Ex. Homeless, elderly, sex offenders, single parents, disabilities,
children, teens, etc. In today s time, we seem to point the finger on everyone else rather than taking the
blame ourselves and it is not surprising to see that the majority is being accused on young people in
particular. With the rate of crime and increasing amount of teen suicide, this can be easy to point the
finger at them. However, we all share the responsibility of the social problems at hand. We all disrupt
social order for our own pleasing. With the busyness of life we do not stop and take the time needed to
acknowledge the needs of others. We lose the incentive we once had to care for others for a mere
moment of pleasure we may receive. And due to that mere moment of pleasure, we come open the
door of diversity, social justice, and at risk populations. The young people of today s society are more
at risk then the elderly. The young are the next generations to come. More and more youth are
suffering from psychological problems and are lacking incentive and failure to thrive. The unresolved
issues play a part in the future. The youth are in need of finding security. If we are pointing the finger

Dancer in the Dark Film Review Essay
If I was to reduce my description of Dancer in the dark to one word, it would be daring. Its immediate
effect on me was stronger than that of maybe any other film I ve ever seen. It shook me, stirred my

does. Its radical make, boldness and consistency exceeds all expectations and probably everything that

Selma, however, harbours a dark secret. She is afflicted with a hereditary blinding disease that eats
away at her sight as she grows older. She works horrendous hours of every day and night to save up to
pay for an operation that will give her son the chance of a life free of blindness. Selma is saved from
the crushing sadness of her existence by music. Music she hears on the factory floor, the passing train,
echoed footfalls, the air shaft in the wall. Every time she hears or feels a beat she imagines herself
breaking into a spontaneous song and dance routine like she had seen so many times in her childhood.
Any rhythmic sound source is likely to elevate her to the world of musicals. Sounds of her
surroundings are the bass line to an extravagant musical fantasy world, this not only allows her to
break away from the horrors of the situations she finds herself in, but also allows Von Trier to briefly

crumbling and falling apart around her.
There are many aspects about Dancer in the Dark that make it stand out so distinctly. Relating to the
songs, the first phrase that came to my mind after seeing the film was: a musical for people who

when we hear musical. In addition, the songs were not embedded realistically in the film (that s

Rhetorical Analysis Of Animal Rights By Vicki Hearne And...
A Measure of Happiness or Suffering
On the topic of animal rights, Vicki Hearne and Peter Singer represent opposite ends of a belief
spectrum. Singer describes, in numerous articles, that he believes animal rights should focus on if the
animal is suffering, and the best option to prevent it is to limit interaction between animals and
humans. Specifically, in Speciesism and Moral Status Singer compares the intelligence and ability of
non human animals to those with severe cognitive disabilities to establish an outrageous solution to
animal belittlement. He uses logos (the appeal to reason) and ethos (the appeal to ethics), to question
the current rights in place to appeal to other scholars. Nevertheless, his approach can cause an
emotional disconnect to the readers; this apparent in contrast to Hearne s pathos (the ... Show more

Between the two, Hearne s argument in What s Wrong With Animal Rights is widely preferred,
because Hearne chooses to focus on compelling people s emotions. Her arguments and reasoning are
more understandable and believable to a wider audience. Though she makes naive mistakes, her
establishment of authority on the topic of animal rights still makes it easier to skim over them. Since
Singer s Speciesism and Moral Status is intended for scholars, it makes it harder to spread his
message. His lack of pathos throughout the article makes it harder to allow the reader to connect and

The Frames And Their Goals And Beliefs Into Collective Action
Frames Literature
Within social movement literature, frames play a major role in impacting how movement actors
translate their goals and beliefs into collective action. Specifically, frames shape the parameters of
action and the strategic choices underlying these actions. Additionally, framing processes have taken
center stage in an attempt to understand the emergence and development of social change efforts
(Croteau Hicks, 2003: 252). For sociologists, frames act as schemata of interpretation which render
things or situations meaningful (Goffman, 1974: 21). Political scientists attribute this concept to
collective action, where frames simplify and condense aspects of the world out there, with the end
intention of mobilizing potential adherents and constituents (Benford Snow, 1988: 198). In its simplest
form, movements may try to remake the world in their own image (Clemens in McAdam et al, 1996:
213). Therefore, to get supporters involved in collective action, organizers must shape their frames in
an attractive manner. To generate collective action frames, movement organizers participate in what
scholars call frame articulation (Benford Snow, 2000: 623). Frame articulation, according to Benford
and Snow, involves the connection and alignment of events and experiences so that they hang together
in a relatively unified and compelling fashion (2000: 623). Benford and Snow further argue: what
gives the resultant collective action frames its novelty is not

1993, while on a trip to Sudan, Carter found a Sudanese toddler stalked by a vulture. The vulture is
waiting for the girl to die and to eat her but Carter stopped and took a picture instead of helping the

Executive Summary
The purpose of this report, commissioned by Mr Jim Dickie, is to analyse and answer all discussion
questions relating to the case New Modes of Trade Finance , which describes the current position of
Palate Able Delights (PAD), a niche retailer of various high end food products, who plans to begin
assessing various markets for the commencement of exporting its food products, which it has no
experience in.
Consideration was to be given to the applicability of non traditional online and offline payment and
trade finance methods (such as those offered by PayPal and UPS), open account terms and more
stringent, traditional finance methods such as documentary letters of credit.
After careful analysis of the circumstances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although PAD is interested in trading on open account terms by far the riskiest for exporters (FITT,
2008), presumably for the potential of greater sales, the risks are somewhat difficult to justify.
Specifically, PAD s a niche business offering high end, gourmet products not a commodity type
product attempting to enter a saturated market. As such, while open terms, given their prevalence, may
be necessary in markets where competition is high and entry to them is deemed strategically
significant, PAD likely commands some level of market pull (demand) in most markets. This suggests
that PAD s assumption of the substantial risks associated with open account terms is somewhat
unnecessary and, given its high margins and assumed ability to absorb some additional costs, it should
opt for a greater level of security.
This is especially so for small, perhaps one time customers, with order values of say, under $2,000.
Here, non traditional payment systems such as PayPal or credit card facilities are more appropriate
than the complex and time consuming traditional payment types. Furthermore, these methods would
typically involve payment in advance, providing PAD with a high level of

Comparing Two Picture Analysis
Introduction When we look at carefully at any work of art we notice that it shows an expression of
creativity, intelligence and originality. In reality, creativity is the fruit of a sort of communication
between our thought and our heart. Then the shape appears in our mind and we start producing the
object. After looking at the two pictures carefully, I can compare and show the contrast of them. By
comparison I consider that the two objects are beautiful works of art. The people who created them are
all very skilled in art. The shapes are well elaborated. They are really excellent works of art. The
images are talking. They give you an idea of how the people were living at that time by their
appearances and their dressings. The images show

The Age Of Champions By Rowe Kahn
After our class viewing of the Age of Champions as well as reading the numerous articles including
one by Rowe Kahn, it is clear that there is a variety of ways people can view the term aging
successfully. A variety of gerontologists have similarities and differences in their definition of the
term, and this paper will compare some of the athletes from the film these definitions. The main
definition of aging successful is said to be, successful gaining includes three main components: low
probability of disease and disease related disability, high cognitive and physical functional capacity,
and active engagement with life (Rowe Kahn, 433). The first component of low probability of disease
related disability does not only refer to the physical disease itself being present in the persons body,
but also the severity of the risk of the factors of such disease(s). High cognitive and physical
functional capacity depicts what the individual can do and not just what they do. Finally active
engagement with life deals with how the individual interacts with others (interpersonal relations) and
creating societal value without any return (productive activity) (Rowe Kahn, 433). We are going to
look into the lives of Roger Gentilehomme and Earl Blassingame and analyze if they are considered to
be aging well based on variety of articles as well as personal opinion. Roger Gentihomme was born in
1909, making him 107 today and he is an all star tennis player. He tells us how he

Free Radicals And Oxidative Stress
Nowadays, oxidative stress is the major risk factor for several health complications. Free radicals are
the normal byproduct of cellular metabolism that leads to oxidative stress, resulting in damage to
nucleic acids, lipids and proteins, and is an underlying cause of various diseases in the human system,
including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory conditions, diabetic complications, Alzheimer
s disease and ageing [4 8].
Free radicals promote tumor growth by activating certain signal transduction pathways that induce the
transcription of c fos, c jun and c myc, the proto oncogenes that stimulate tumor development [1, 2].
Excessive free radicals produced during cellular metabolism can attack the deoxyribose DNA
backbone and bases, which causes mutation and in turn leads to cancer. ... Show more content on

A dynamic balance between free radicals and antioxidants is necessary for proper physiological
function [4]. Natural antioxidants may be incompetent in promoting complete protection from free

  • 2. Origins Of The Periodic Table As we know, today there are one hundred and eighteen elements on the periodic table of elements, but it didn t start out like this. Robert Boyle, a scientist, discovered the element phosphorus in 1680. Also, in this year the element became known to the public. By the year of 1809, the number of elements discovered at the time was up to 47. Also, scientists began to see a pattern in the characteristics of the elements. Later in 1863, The 56 elements discovered at the time were then divided into 11 groups based on their characteristics by an english chemist named John Newlands. In the year 1869 a Russian chemist by the name of Dimitri Mendeleev started the making of the periodic table. He started by rearranging the elements in order of atomic mass. He also expected the discovery of other elements, so he decided to leave empty spaces in his table so he could add new elements later. In 1894, the noble gases were discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Lord Rayleigh. The noble gases were added to the periodic table in a group labeled 0. Eventually in 1945, Glenn Seaborg discovered and identified lanthanides and actinides. The Lanthanides were the elements with atomic numbers greater than 57 and lower than 71. The Actinides were elements greater than 92. These elements today are located underneath the periodic table (refer to figure 1). The last major change to the periodic table occurred in the 20th century due to the work of Glenn Seaborg. starting with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up to her death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but it is more likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the townsfolk. The point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss Emily Grierson because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss Emily as being viewed as a fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was a tradition, a duty and a care (79). This is the first example the reader gets of the narrators conflicting bias towards Miss Emily. It is likely that when she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and in her buildings. When the smell eventually disappears the narrator states that the town began to feel sorry for her because of the madness that ran in her family. The narrator almost immediately contradicts himself by stating that it was believed the Griersons held themselves a little too high for what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing because now she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a penny more or less (81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for as long as possible and claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were about to resort to law, she broke down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes sympathetic after, stating that we were sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process, even saying We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will (81). This shows another inaccurate view of the towns opinion of Miss Emily at this point in time, because not everyone in Jefferson would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she wasn t crazy. The narrator groups everyone in Jefferson together, making the town as a whole a character by generalizing what would have been their opinions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant. There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of them agree. Some only analyze part of the broader issue, while others seem to have obvious biases as the center of their argument. One article, Electric Vehicles: Just How Green Are They? by Pamela Worth explains that the average gasoline powered vehicle gets 29 miles per gallon. Worth uses this statistic to show that after production, electric vehicles are cleaner than the average gasoline powered vehicle in all areas of the United States (Worth). • 9. Scotland By Professor Rab Houston This essay is a critical evaluation of the book, Scotland: A Very Short Introduction (hereafter Scotland) by Professor Rab Houston (Houston 2008). In the argumentative essay I intend to use this source mainly for historical context and background colour. In this evaluation, I focus on two criteria: first, I investigate whether this book represents a credible source: I will examine the authorship, publication and intentions of the work in order to evaluate whether there are any objections to the use of this source in terms of objectivity or rigorousness. Second, I briefly discuss the content of the work in order to decide whether the information within will be of use in an argumentative essay about the issue of Scottish independence. Professor Houston is Professor of History at St Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of nine books and over 80 academic articles and book chapters (University of St Andrews n.d.). • 13. Descriptive Language In The Contender By Robert Lipsyte Description begins in the writer s imagination, but should finish in the reader s. Stephen King. Descriptive language helps to create a picture in the reader s mind. Authors can create descriptive language through narration or dialogue. In the novel The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, the author uses descriptive language and dialogue to develop the characters and the setting. In The Contender, the author Robert Lipsyte uses descriptive language throughout the whole story. One example of descriptive language in the story is on page 47. It says, The second sit up was harder than the first, and the third was harder still. But by the fourth sit up his muscles began to get warm, like a car engine heating up on a cold morning.. In the text it says that each sit up was harder than the last but by the last sit up he began to get used to it. This quote shows you what the character, Alfred, is doing and how it felt to do the activity he was doing physically. A second example of descriptive language in the story is on page 54. It says, Alfred caught his breath. It was huge. It was almost a circle, and the seats rose right up the walls toward a ceiling of cables and beams. In the center of the floor, gleaming white under hundreds of spotlights, was the ring. The ropes were wrapped in velvet. Essay about Response to Article about the Capsaicin Receptor The Summary of The capsaicin receptor: a heat activated ion channel in the pain pathway Capsaicin is a natural product of capsicum peppers, that is an active ingredient in many hot foods. When nociceptors neurons that transmit information regarding tissue damage to pain processing centers in the spinal cord and brain come in contact with capsaicin, the neuron gets excited, and there is a perception of pain, and the a local release of inflammatory mediators. These nociceptors get excited by increasing permeability of plasma membrane to cations, but the molecular mechanism explaining this phenomenon is unclear. Because capsaicin has the ability to trigger robust calcium influx into sensory neurons in vitro, a cloning strategy was contrived. Since capsaicin responsiveness seemed to be confined to nociceptive neurons with cell bodies that resided within sensory ganglia, a cDNA library was constructed from dorsal root ganglion derived messenger RNA. The pools consisted of 16,000 clones in each, and was transfected in human embryonic kidney derived HEK193, and the transfected cells were filled with the fluorescent calcium sensitive dye Fura 2 (emits light when in contact with Calcium), and examined for capsaicin evoked changes in intracellular calcium levels. When a positive pool was found, it was reassayed, repeating the process over and over, until an individual clone containing a 3 kilobase cDNA insert was weeded out, which conferred capsaicin or resiniferatoxin. It was determined that this was the DNA encoded aminoacid sequence of the protein that comprises the capsaicin receptor. Since the vanilloid group chemically represents capsaicin, it was called VR1. The scientists compared the pharmacological properties of the cloned receptor to those of native vanilloid sites in sensory ganglia. They examined the electrophysiological responses to a variety of vanilloid agonaists and antagonists. It was concluded that capsaicin and resiniferatoxin activate the current, while capsazepine, and synthetic antagonist, blocks the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are numerous disabilities that exist in the world today that can affect people s physical or mental ability which can be taken care of through rehabilitation or medication. Even regardless of the societal barriers that exist against people with disabilities, environmental barriers such as stairs or lack of transportation can greatly limit a person with disabilities access to the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art or art therapy has the power to help people in general in terms of expression and combating depression. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they are unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release of negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is solely based on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities tend to be less judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Thus, it can be seen that these are good reasons why a person with disabilities might want to join the artistic sphere. Scientific research has shown that art does have meditative effects where it renders stress to relaxation in a person s physiology. In different researches, changes in brain wave patterns, autonomic nervous system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitter have occurred as a result of listening to music (Zahovaeva, 2014). Art in medicine is not a new concept, ancient rites of healing were performed hand in hand with music, dance and drama to emphasize the healing process (Zahovaeva, 2014). Within the context of disability studies, this proves to be greatly advantageous because art is both beneficial in terms of its ability to affect psychological as well as physiological side of people. We didn t want the war, the others say the same thing and yet half the world is in it all the same. (206) Erich Remarque describes how war is an odd sort of happening through Albert Kropp, one of the most intelligent young men of Paul Bäumer s company. Remarque, himself a German World War 1 veteran, uses the characters of Paul s company to channel his frustrations from his experiences during the war. The vivid imagery used to describe bombardments and life at the front allows the reader to visualize the reality of warfare. It s bloody, messy, and repulsive. Extreme detail aids Remarque in exposing the atrocities of war, and its repercussions. All Quiet on the Western Front focuses on an anti war theme, and how war itself has no purpose other than to be savage and wasteful. Some aspects of the novel serve as symbol for important things Remarque would like the audience to note. Kemmerich s boots are the most prominent example. The soft leather boots are passed down from man to man after one dies, and it isn t thought of in depth. Kemmerich takes them from a deceased airman, and after he dies, Müller is the owner. Paul then inherits the boots from Müller. The footwear symbolises the nonchalance of war, and how one must remain practical. Paul realizes this as he observes Müller hound Kemmerich for his boots. Video games also have negative impacts on other parts of brain which are responsible for sensory, emotion and visual perception. A Strong impulse of sound and light in video games can directly divert the children s attention. In order to achieve an attractive effect, video games are often colorful and stereotyped. How Does Photography Affect The World With the development of modern technology, cameras have now become an optical instrument for recording or capturing images, which can be stored locally, transmitted to other locations or even both. Since that, photography starts to appear as a common activity for people to play with and it is also one of the most outstanding factors to affect different countries with architectural style. • 24. The Reform Movements of America American History Essay Prior to the Civil War, the United States experienced several different reform movements. These movements included the temperance movement, education movement, prison movements, women s rights movement, and the anti slavery movement. When glanced together, there may initially seem to be little connection between these various different movements. However, they were actually supported by a common theme, the liberation of the human spirit. This idea that all humans should be free provided the support for all of the different movements. The temperance movement was based on the idea that humanity should be free from its own vices. The education movement linked knowledge and freedom. The prison reform movement was not based on physical liberation, but on the idea that the spirit crushing punitive emphasis of old fashioned prisons would not create any possibility of change in the inmates. The women s rights movement was based upon the notion that women should not be treated as inferior to men because of gender. Finally, the anti slavery movement did not focus solely on the idea that slavery, as an institution, was inherently bad because it deprived people of their physical liberty without just cause, but also on how slavery was practiced in the antebellum South and the indignities that accompanied it. The temperance movement is one of the least understood of all the reform movements because, while it had a tremendous impact on American society, its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself. Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant 227), she fails to see that it is she herself who finds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished. Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias. After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between ... Entropy Research Paper Entropy and Energy Density in A Finite and Infinite Dimensional Universe Entropy, or disorder, is increasing in the universe and aims to do so until it reaches its maximum limit or capacity [1]. Energy density, on the other hand, is the amount of energy stored per a given volume of space [2]. While the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant [3], energy density decreases as the universe continues to expand. In an infinite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand indefinitely in all directions, entropy will continue to increase until it eventually reaches its maximum. When this happens, all energy would have been transformed into the same type of energy and dispersed equally throughout the whole universe. This would happen because if entropy has reached its maximum limit, then everything would have already been disordered to its maximum limit. At this point, the whole universe would then be in equilibrium: the Heat Death of the Universe [4]. Another possible outcome is that, as the universe is expanding indefinitely, then entropy will also increase indefinitely and will not be able to reach its maximum limit. With the rate of crime and increasing amount of teen suicide, this can be easy to point the finger at them. However, we all share the responsibility of the social problems at hand. We all disrupt social order for our own pleasing. With the busyness of life we do not stop and take the time needed to acknowledge the needs of others. We lose the incentive we once had to care for others for a mere moment of pleasure we may receive. And due to that mere moment of pleasure, we come open the door of diversity, social justice, and at risk populations. The young people of today s society are more at risk then the elderly. The young are the next generations to come. More and more youth are suffering from psychological problems and are lacking incentive and failure to thrive. • 40. The Frames And Their Goals And Beliefs Into Collective Action Frames Literature Within social movement literature, frames play a major role in impacting how movement actors translate their goals and beliefs into collective action. Specifically, frames shape the parameters of action and the strategic choices underlying these actions. Additionally, framing processes have taken center stage in an attempt to understand the emergence and development of social change efforts (Croteau Hicks, 2003: 252). For sociologists, frames act as schemata of interpretation which render things or situations meaningful (Goffman, 1974: 21). Political scientists attribute this concept to collective action, where frames simplify and condense aspects of the world out there, with the end intention of mobilizing potential adherents and constituents (Benford Snow, 1988: 198). In its simplest form, movements may try to remake the world in their own image (Clemens in McAdam et al, 1996: 213). Therefore, to get supporters involved in collective action, organizers must shape their frames in an attractive manner. To generate collective action frames, movement organizers participate in what scholars call frame articulation (Benford Snow, 2000: 623). • 41. An Ethical Photographer Should Do For Our Last Position... Introduction: Kevin Carter, the south African photographer, is famous for a photograph named Struggling Girl. In 1993, while on a trip to Sudan, Carter found a Sudanese toddler stalked by a vulture. The vulture is waiting for the girl to die and to eat her but Carter stopped and took a picture instead of helping the girl. Hundreds of people feel mad about the photograph because Carter only used the girl to take photograph, and left her away. Ironically, the photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 1994. (1) As an ethical photographer, I believe it is unethical to take photos for vulnerable subjects and then left them away. Body: Photographers is allowed to take photos for vulnerable subjects, because those photos can easily trigger people s emotions. For example, crying toddlers. However, get the permission from their guarantor first and give them some prizes later are the two most important things that an ethical photographer should do. For our last position statement about Jill Greenberg. She also took some photos about vulnerable subjects which are crying toddlers. I believe Jill is an ethical photographer because the children were either professionally hired or her friend s children (and include her daughter). Also, she offered some candy to all toddlers which can make them have a happy face quickly. As for what Carter did in Sudan, it is totally unacceptable. After he found a girl who had stopped to rest while a vulture nearby, the first thing in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Due Dilligence Executive Summary The purpose of this report, commissioned by Mr Jim Dickie, is to analyse and answer all discussion questions relating to the case New Modes of Trade Finance , which describes the current position of Palate Able Delights (PAD), a niche retailer of various high end food products, who plans to begin assessing various markets for the commencement of exporting its food products, which it has no experience in. Consideration was to be given to the applicability of non traditional online and offline payment and trade finance methods (such as those offered by PayPal and UPS), open account terms and more stringent, traditional finance methods such as documentary letters of credit. After careful analysis of the circumstances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although PAD is interested in trading on open account terms by far the riskiest for exporters (FITT, 2008), presumably for the potential of greater sales, the risks are somewhat difficult to justify. Specifically, PAD s a niche business offering high end, gourmet products not a commodity type product attempting to enter a saturated market. As such, while open terms, given their prevalence, may be necessary in markets where competition is high and entry to them is deemed strategically significant, PAD likely commands some level of market pull (demand) in most markets. This suggests that PAD s assumption of the substantial risks associated with open account terms is somewhat unnecessary and, given its high margins and assumed ability to absorb some additional costs, it should opt for a greater level of security. This is especially so for small, perhaps one time customers, with order values of say, under $2,000. Here, non traditional payment systems such as PayPal or credit card facilities are more appropriate than the complex and time consuming traditional payment types. Furthermore, these methods would typically involve payment in advance, providing PAD with a high level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
