Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero
Richard as an Anti hero:
To what extent does Richard embody this archetype?
In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and
psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities.
Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A
protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is
admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the
character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. The play
opens up with Richard s, (Duke of Gloucester) soliloquy: I am determined to ... Show more content on

Richard says to Lady Anne: Your beauty was the cause of the effect:
Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep
To undertake the death of all the world,
So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129)
Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he had
murdered both her father and husband. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in response.
Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard succeeds in
manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will provide Anne with the emotional
support she would need; especially after suffering two loses. By persuading and manipulating Lady
Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a truce with the house of
Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses
on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds.
Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. Richard
acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious
man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge 235). I will deliver
for you or else lie for you (1, 1,115.) are the exact words that Richard expresses to Clarence when
Clarence was being sent to the tower. As soon as Clarence is out of sight, Richard s

The Great War And Modern Memory By Paul Fussell
In 1975 the Oxford University Press published the first edition of The Great War and Modern Memory
written by Paul Fussell. As Fussell states in the opening line, this book is about the British experience
on the Western Front from 1914 to 1918. In this paper I will argue, that despite the numerous literary
awards this book has won, it contains historical inaccuracies and shortcomings in relation to the
accurate information provided that takes away from the prestige of the book. Despite the numerous
negative aspects of the book, this paper will also briefly highlight the few positive areas of the book,
therefore providing an in depth analysis of the book. When analyzing any sort of book, it is best for
the reader to have a basic summary and understanding of the books arguments and evidence in order
to understand further arguments made about said book. It is important to note at the beginning of this
paper that Fussell fought in the Second World War, something he does not mention until the end of his
book. Fussell also states that as wounded ex infantry officer, who is fascinated and at times obsessed
with his own experience in Europe during the Second World War, he related his circumstances to those
that he wrote about who participated in the First World War. It is important to keep in mind because it
may influence how Fussell wrote his book and the reader should be aware of this fact while reading
this analysis of his work. Fussell s book contains nine chapters that

School Tryout Essay
There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports
teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an
incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without
trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a
traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional
breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport
team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life
lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why
schools need to permit tryouts.
Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too
many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s
too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve.
(Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete)
should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion.
Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain
sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other
athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during
practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the
appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular
game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can
achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally,
Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that

Vacation Rentals Or Hotels
Vacation rentals or hotels, that is the question. When choosing the most suitable accommodation for
your trip, there are a few factors that come into play. For example, how much are you willing to spend
for a night? After all, the money that doesn t go into accommodation, goes into meals or shopping.
To help you deal with this struggle, we have compiled a checklist to guide your choice in deciding the
perfect accommodation for your trip. Undecided between vacation rentals or hotels? Read on to find
out more about which to pick when you are planning your perfect holiday trip.
Costs can vary according to the size, location and length of your stay. If you are not on a tight budget,
staying at a hotel might be more enticing than spending a night at a vacation home. Unlike a vacation
rental, a hotel offers more customer oriented services such as room keeping services and a 24 hour
reception and concierge to attend to any needs you might have. Stay in a hotel and when you are back
after a long day spent exploring the city, you can be sure to return to a tidied room and clean sheets.
If your budget is not as flexible, vacation rentals are the way to go. The biggest perk is that instead of
getting a room all to yourself, you get an entire house! This often comes complete with a living room,
a bedroom and a kitchen. It will be like you never left home, except maybe a little bit nicer and more
exciting.
More often than not, the reason why most hotels are costly is due to the fact

The Environmental Impact Skiing On The Environment
The environmental impact skiing has as a whole on the environment has been a growing concern for
some time now. Resorts especially have taken specific notice to their carbon foot print, and actions to
reduce it. Several companies have taken this trend of going green and established themselves as the go
to people for whatever their service/product may be. In large, the snow sports industry has stepped up
their game with sustainability practices in hopes of leaving the world as they found it years ago. One
slope side lighting company called Arctic Beam has developed a futuristic looking LED lighting
solution that can cut energy usage in half for a typical ski resort. Although slope lighting is not a big
issue for many ski resorts, the ones who offer night skiing can benefit tremendously. By reducing
energy use by half and ski resort can now invest that half into other sustainable projects and further
their steps to becoming an environmentally friendly resort. These lights also reduce light pollution by
having a 120 degree angle of light and ability to concentrate the beam to certain areas. Compared to
the usual gas light bulbs used today whose light direction is 360 degrees with little control over where
the light can be directed. The difference is remarkable with visibility as well. The Arctic Beam puts
out light which can be registered more readily by the human eye then light emitted by the gas bulbs.
This creates a safer skiing and riding zone by increasing typical night

Examples Of Spiritual Warfare In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape...
Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:12 says, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of
wickedness in the heavenly places. In the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, Uncle
Screwtape sends a collection of letters to Wormwood, always signing your affectionate Uncle
Screwtape. Screwtape, the older demon, counsels Wormwood on how to tempt the patient , a human.
Through the course of the letters his Patient becomes a Christian. When his patient die, the human
ascends to heaven and Wormwood descends to Hell. We can all agree these demons were manipulative
and harmful, but we disagree whether they are pitiable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the letters Screwtape gives Wormwood (or Lewis gives us) many examples of lies from
the demons. Although there are several lies, there are four deceptions, which I thought are most
interesting. The first is having pride in humility. When the patient is humble Wormwood is to point out
his humility, therefore reversing his obedience into pride. The second exposed deception is a
distraction from the truth. When studying authors or philosophers the patient Wormwood encourages
him to ask about the authors background, why he wrote it, or how he came to his conclusion. All these
questions are good, but Wormwood purposefully uses these questions to distract his human from
questioning the truth. I believe Lewis believes this question is important because it is important to
evaluate a belief as good or bad on the basis of truth. The third lie is praying for someone else s sin. In
the book, Wormwood s assignment is to encourage his patient to pray for his mother s faults, so that
the patient focuses on her faults. Lastly, the fourth lie the patient believes is in his misdirected anger.
Screwtape encourages Wormwood to direct the Patient s hatred of their enemy in war to his neighbors,
and his good intentions toward strangers, that way his virtues are closer to fantasy than reality. In
result, the patient was kind to strangers and hateful to family and close friends. Lewis brilliantly
exposes these lies in an intriguing and thought provoking

The Intersection of Religion and Politics in 17th 19th Century Africa
The stories of Dona Beatriz, Uthman dan Fodio, and Guimba the Tyrant present three cases in which
religion and politics overlapped in different ways and to varying degrees. These three individuals lived
in distinct historical contexts and had unique religious trainings, sources of spiritual power, track
records as religious and political authorities, goals for reshaping the religious and political landscape
of their regions, reputations among their contemporaries, and obstacles with which to contend. Some
common themes of 17th 19th century African social and political history span these three stories
despite their distinct historical contexts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, Dona Beatriz was trained as a nganga marinda, an intermediary between the spiritual and
temporal worlds in African societies. She displayed spiritual gifts from a young age, which was
unsurprising among aristocrats in Kimpasi society. While realizing that she could not conform to
traditional social roles, such as that of a subservient wife, Beatriz actively cultivated her spiritual gifts
for greater social good and waged a war against all forms of greed and jealousy and its most obvious
manifestation, misuse of kindoki, supernatural powers or curses (Thornton 110). Her attacks on
individuals, most notably some Capuchin missionaries, preceded her martial entrance into the political
fray. Dona Beatriz grew up among political instability, and by 1703 a number of religious signs had
convinced many people that religious purification would bring about political stability. Dona Beatriz
preached that peace could be achieved only through unification under one king, guided by devotion to
Kongolese Catholic belief. Beatriz s mandate came from St. Anthony, who took up residence in her
body and revealed truths about the Kongolese origins of Christianity. In the context of the ideological
divide and political tensions between the Capuchin missionaries from Europe and native Kongolese
Catholics over the

A Statement Of Reform Education Literacy
A Statement of Reform in Educational Proficiency Pertaining to Bernie Sanders Candidacy
In a recent BuzzFeed article, a freshman at UCLA was asked how his life as a college student was
going. It s the remix to ignition, there s no food in the kitchen, my whole life is a mess, I don t know
what s going on and I can t afford my tuition . The life of a college student is stressful. Getting to class
on time after staying up all night studying and trying to earn a degree on pop tarts and canned potatoes
is not an aspect many people dream of experiencing. On top of it all, students endure college with
their biggest fear, how they propose to pay for it, because as most students and educators know it s
expensive. So, I ve come up with a backup plan. Instead of going through all this trouble paying for
some degree that doesn t even guarantee me a job after graduation, I m going to quit college, become
an oven, and get up to five hundred degrees. I m joking of course, but it s an idea that could probably
save you a couple of bucks. Paying for college is an eerie and sinister part of life that many Americans
are forced to face every day. According to The College Board, almost seventy percent of college
students in the United States, the majority being of non Caucasian decent, do not receive adequate
funding and scholarships to help pay for the tuitions at high dollar public universities such as Ohio
State, Arizona State and UCLA, and even inexpensive schools such as TSTC.

attain the good life one must live a pleasant existence free of worry and pain. Through reflection of the

In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure.
Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their
intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a
consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future
consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally
reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton
2000, p. 59).
The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life
without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly
and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in
order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live
virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary
native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by
the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the
three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

Curse Definition Essay
A curse, as defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary, is a prayer or invocation for harm or injury to
come upon one. An evil or misfortune that comes as if in response to imprecation or as retribution. A
cause of great harm or misfortune: Torment The word is a noun and is derived from twelfth century
English curs . However, it can also be used as a verb, the more common definition of the word is in
association with the menstrual cycle of females or using profanity.
The term really hold no significance to me other than when used to do harm or wishing to do harm to
someone. Can a person be cursed, yes, but only if the receiver of the curse is venerable to believing in
such things. I believe that while curses are not to be done lightly, there ... Show more content on

Any person with even a minimal education knows the term curse is used for negativity. Whether you
are cursing someone who cut you off in traffic, or just telling someone to shut up , it is still releasing
negativity upon someone. I m not saying I m above such actions, I am just as guilty of uttering
something that wasn t nice to others. I m not proud of it, and I do try and react in a different way, but I
think the thought process of most people is to react to when they feel they have been wronged. While I
understand that thought process, and at times have wanted to seek revenge myself, I usually just ask
the Gods and Goddess to give me strength to be of strong mind, and for them to deal justice as they
see fit.
While the term curse will always be associated with negativity, it is an individual choice as to whether
a person believes in performing a curse or receptive of a curse. Many believe that the threefold law is
a guide as to what to put out to the universe, and what can come back. Even positive magick can go
wrong, so it is of great importance that all magick be considered of intent. If you don t let go of a
grenade, eventually you re going to blow yourself up . This is good advice to follow, even if doing

Emma s View Of Love
Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession with
falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other people to
fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her life. If she were
more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself before blaming her love
interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past. Emma has a very unrealistic
perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone because she will always be dissatisfied.
She destroyed her own marriage before it even started because of her preconceived idea of love.
Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do anything for her but she does not feel the same
way about him due to her fairytale idea of love. It seems as if she is not capable of separating her real
life romances from the romance novels that she read when during her time at the convent.
In Gustave Flaubert s novel, Madame Bovary, Emma Bovary is unknowingly a slave to her desires.
Emma is so infatuated with the thought of falling in love that it causes her to experience many
problems in every aspect of her life. For example, Emma is married to Charles Bovary, however, she
is not particularly in love with him. Most people get married because they are in love with each other

The Dangers Of Animal Abuse
Background Research:
What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any
animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on
the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are thrown into shelters. This became a
problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. When the system
began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little
monetary value was placed on them (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday,
today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an
animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains,
hearts, and bones. A reported case was that authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult
dogs from a self processed animal rescue after they were found in the rescuer s filthy home. ( No Kill
Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and
forced the animals into an unsafe shelter . The shelter being a dirty home.
Animal abuse awareness is very important because it is showing that harm to an animal is not okay, it
is a crime, and should not be taken lightly. Animals feel too, dogs don t hide what they feel ( Marc

Rmk Influence On German Culture
With this concept in mind, the Kampfbund für deutsche Kultur, or the Militant League for German
Culture, was created in 1929. Originally headed by Alfred Rosenburg, the Nazis took over the
institution when Hitler rose to power and it became known as the Reichskulturkammer in 1933. The
RKK was created to combat cultural influence that did not further Germanness . A division of the
RKK became known as the Reichsmusikammer, or the RMK, that was used to censor music all
throughout Germany. The only problem with the RMK was that it was entirely run by men with
almost no musical background. It can be agreed that all Germans were very fond of music and its
impact on the soul, but not all took the time to learn how to create and play music. The first of many
cultural restrictions targeted music specifically and crippled the creation of music in German society.

Essay on The Epic of Gilgamesh on Immortality and Its...
As long as humans have lived and died, we have strived to know the meaning of life. We assume that
there is a meaning or importance to life, and in doing so try to provide some permanence to our
existence so that a greater machine might continue to function. It is only natural, then, for us to be
interested in the concept of immortality. If there is purpose to an ending life, a life that does not end
must be supremely important. This idea is exemplified throughout time in stories both historical and
fictional. The Epic of Gilgamesh is one such story. Gilgamesh deals with immortality on nearly every
level, and at the same time points back to mortality, trying to extract a reason for living and dying.
Ostensively, The Epic of Gilgamesh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Bull of Heaven is sent to Uruk from the gods, Gilgamesh and Enkidu slay it quickly by
stabbing a sword into the Bull s neck (Gilgamesh 82). If the Bull of Heaven is a god, then clearly the
gods can be killed. The Bull of Heaven also seems to be a guardian of sorts for the gods, which
implies the gods need protection. Later the story describes a flood weapon that gods are actually
fearful of (Gilgamesh 113), perhaps because it could bring about their death. This all makes an
interesting distinction between immortality and invincibility – although life might continue forever if
left alone, it is not necessarily incapable of being stopped. And the spiritual life seems to continue for
humans when the physical life ends. Enkidu talks about being taken to a horrible afterlife: He seized
me, drove me down to the house where those who stay are deprived of light, where dust is their
food, and clay their bread. (Gilgamesh 89). Thus, while humans might be able to obtain spiritual
immortality, it will only be a state of suffering, which reflects back to the negativity of seeking
immortality in life. Gilgamesh also deals with perpetual life by symbolically demonstrating death and
rebirth. Enkidu, after having intercourse with the prostitute Shamhat, is rejected by the animal
kingdom that was his home (Gilgamesh 55 56). At this moment, Enkidu s life as an animal ends, but
his life continues as a human. Similarly, the snake that steals Gilgamesh s plant of

Financial Crisis in This Time is Different by Reinhart and...
People always think that the technology renovations, institutional changes and experience gains can
make the world emerge from financial crisis saying that this time is different . But they may be too
optimistic. The outrageous truth is that each new financial crisis is not predicted or forestalled. As
Reinhart and Rogoff said in their book This Time is Different , technology is changing, fashion is

A banking crisis usually refers to a situation in a general market adjustment when faith in banking
institutions falls, and people start trying to move their money to other places for safe keeping.
(RationalWiki) If we need to find something in common for all financial crises, that will be excessive
build ups of debt. Excessive debt accumulation makes banking industry more profitable and more
stable than it really is and it will easily be ignored at the beginning. However, if the equilibrate has
been destroyed, systemic risk will grow and increases more quickly and greater than usual.

Where Is The Line Between Depression And Being Depressed...
Where is the Line Between Having Depression and Being Depressed ?
I remember it well, the first time I thought I had depression. I was 17. My psychology textbook had
innocently listed the symptoms of clinical depression, and I read them with increasing fervour, the
cogs in my mind whirring and clicking into place. This is me! I thought, my obviously fully developed
adult brain making proper conclusions. Equal feelings of dread and relief settled into the pit of my
stomach. Despite my knowledge that psychology students have a tendency to incorrectly self
diagnose, this was my reality for the six years separating now and then. I maintained this belief
through a detrimental concoction of confirmation bias and self fulfilling prophecies.
Countless times I ve sat, mindless gaze fixed on the wall, eyes brimming with silent, slow tears. The
void opens in my chest, I reach for my phone, then stop, with the helpless hesitation of one who truly
believes that none of her friends will care. You are useless, my mind whispers. You are worthless. I
stare listlessly at stucco ceilings, white and blank and empty; I hide within the folds of duvet covers; I
wither within a trench of self pity. The insidious beast settles in, to either destroy my relationships or
render me useless in any endeavour. But, once the storm passes, I am myself again ostensibly flatline
but not necessarily depressed.
Over the years my experience has not continued to be so bleak, though, and I discovered in my

Pros And Cons Of Recession In The United States
What are the main arguments and the reasons and rationalizations that need to be addressed? Due to
the recession the company is experiencing a decline in profits, however, the business remains
profitable. Potentially, the recession could continue and business may decline further. A proactive plan
is better than being reactive in regards to addressing the declining profits. Layoffs are the quickest and
easiest solution to the issue. On the other hand, the success of the company is in large part due to the

Common folklore says that the Teddy Bear toy is named after Theodore Roosevelt. Rumor has it that
he saved a young bear in the wild, and thus gave the cute and cuddly toy a name. (Donna, 1) This is a

The different Christian views struggle with the brokenness of human nature. The difference in views
lies in how this brokenness is interpreted. How does one balance the human being who is born in the

seeking answers to this question, and what is the best way to act on these answers in dealing with the

the human, which only ends in the presence of God. The latter reflects the view of the Christian
Realist.
The philosopher and father of the Christian Realist position, Reinhold Niebuhr, argues that Augustine
s City of God lays the foundation for the Christian realist thought. It is in this work that Augustine
presents a realistic view of humankind that was in contrast with the classical view of the human being.
The latter s view idealized human s unlimited potential because of their ability to reason. Niebuhr
argues that this difference in the viewpoints of Augustine and the classical philosophers lies in
Augustine s biblical, rather than rationalistic, conception of human selfhood with the ancillary
conception of the seat of evil being in the self (Niebuhr, Christian Realism and Political Problems 123
124). It is from this concept that Niebuhr argues that human nature is evil as a result of sin. This sinful
nature of the human has forever shaped his movements. It drives his

Hockey As A Hobby For Canadians Essay
What started as a hobby for Canadians, hockey has developed into the glorified sport that takes the
time of millions of people on Saturday night. Not only has this game changed the lives of people
living in the great white north; hockey itself has earned a reputation where fights and violence steal
the show. The moment where two players drop their gloves and pull up the always interfering elbow
guards could bring a whole arena to its feet. However, In the last couple years, this iconic piece of the
game has been challenged by everyone from hockey experts to hockey moms. People against the
violence would make the argument that it takes away from skilled players having to always watch out
for the notorious goon skating around the ice. Not to mention increasing injuries in the game of
hockey that are presumably linked to over physical play. These are just some of arguments against the
art of fighting in the NHL. But to keep good ratings and the millions of dollars the hockey industry
brings in each year, fighting must remain a key part of Canada s game. With hockey being invented
back in the late 1800 s, at that time there was not even the thought of having fights during a game.
Fighting was only introduced a couple years later. This forced the NHL to make rules for fighting,
giving lengthy suspension for dropping the gloves against players on the other team(Fitzpatrick). As
the years rolled on, there were only six teams in the NHL; it consisted of Toronto, Montreal,

How Did Sherman s March To The Sea Cut A Swath Of Destruction
Sherman s march to the sea cut a swath of destruction sixty miles wide and two hundred eighty five
miles long from Georgia s industrial hub, Atlanta, to the coastal city of Savannah. During his march
Sherman estimated his forces caused at least one hundred million dollars worth of damage adding up
to a little more than one and a half billion by today s standards. Major General William Tecumseh
Sherman began his military career at the United States Military Academy where he graduated in 1840
as a Second Lieutenant. Once the Civil War broke out he was sent to the Mississippi area where he
quickly distinguished himself and rose through the ranks. He was eventually placed in command of
the forces charged with taking the Mississippi River and gained the respect of Lincoln. This gained
him command of the Army of Tennessee and Georgia with which he was to split the deep south from
the upper south, keeping the Confederate armies busy while Grant swept down from the North.

This created a dreadful economic situation in the South. Without the ability to produce any material
goods they could not export items nor could they keep themselves fed with any real consistency. It did
not help that the slaves freed by Sherman were straining already limited resources and the southerners
hated them. However, this was the case in most of the south Sherman s actions were just a smaller part
of the whole. On a larger scale the industrial destruction contributed to the mass migration of African
Americans from the South to Northern industrial cities. The legacy of Sherman s march to the sea
starting with the burning of Atlanta made the southerners wary and bitter towards the soldiers during
the reconstruction period. There were some lasting effects directly related to Sherman s march, but
many repercussions of the war were similar in all areas of the south and not a direct cause of

3. The Hampton Court Maze the most popular one today
The Hampton Court Maze is placed in East Molise in England.
It was ordered by William III in the 17th century and designed by George London and Henry Wise.
Although is not nearly large as nowadays mazes, it s very confusing and it s known as the world s
most visited and most popular maze. Medieval mazes used to have one path to the center, but like
other modern day mazes, The Hampton Court Maze provides multiple path choices and dead ends.
Most people stay inside for several hours, even if it takes 30 45 minutes to complete it and find an
exit.
For those who can t go to England to experience this, there s novel Three Man in a Boat written by
humorist Jerome K. Jerome in 1889.
The author showed how one of the characters, Harris thinks how actually it s too easy to find an exit.
He makes fun of a maze and people who can t complete it.
He explains why he thinks that it s not even a maze, but after entering he also become lost and with

Spasmodic Dysphonia Essay
How can our daily lives be if we only whispered? What about having a breathy or strained voice? For
many, these questions do not come across when communicating. Yet, several do not realize the
different types of voice problems that individuals have. Day by day numerous people are being
diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia. The majority do not understand what it is or how it can be
treated. Researchers have begun conducting studies to identify brainstem functions with patients with
Spasmodic Dysphonia, determine the risks, and develop the best recovery treatment for this disorder.
In 1989, an organization was founded in order to provide advanced research and decrease the
thousands of cases that go misdiagnosed, but also help those who are undiagnosed. ... Show more

have research the main priorities that healthcare professionals should take into consideration when
working with spasmodic dysphonia patients. It is highly encouraged for clinicians and researchers to
group as a team in order to better find results on how to treat and prevent spasmodic dysphonia.
Throughout numerous of studies it has been shown that spasmodic dysphonia is characterized as a
neurological disorder that belongs to the group of dystonia. Therefore, a current study tried to oversee
if there s a comparison between spasmodic dysphonia and focal dystonia. Dystonia can affect the
individuals whole or partial part of the body such as limbs, cervical, cranial upper muscle (Ludlow,
Adler, Berke, etc., 2008, 499). The majority of the times muscle spasms occur involuntary in the
larynx causing the voice to break or sound tight, breathy, or whispery. Spasmodic dysphonia has a
combination of abnormal sensory feedback and abnormal interpretation of the sensations from the
larynx to the brain causing irregular movement towards the laryngeal area. In order to begin to
evaluate the patient for a voice disorder the otolaryngologists must do a screen questionnaire, follow
by a speech examination and last conduct a nasolarynscopy (Ludlow, Adler, Berke, etc., 2008, 495). In
order for an ENT to differentiate hyperadduction SD vs hyperabduction SD a voice test must be
conducted such as having the patient repeat sentences, words, or phonemes. Once the ENT has
determined what type of SD and the severity of the disorder. Then the patient will be referred to a
specialist for treatment and after be send to a speech language pathologist for speech

Parkinson s Dance Therapy
As children, people are often encouraged to pick up hobbies related to physical fitness to maintain
their health and keep them active. As aging occurs, sometimes involvement in sports and physical
activities weans off. Dancing is an activity that many partake in, whether it be on the professional
stage or in the comforts of the home. To many, dancing brings joy and studies have shown that
dancing can reduce anxiety.
There have also been studies that indicate that physical activity, particularly dancing, can help
improve aging related brain health by aiding with Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s afflicts millions
and affects that nervous system causing loss of movement. While there is no known cure for
Parkinson s, dance therapy can help.

Florida Recruiting Case Study
Florida Recruiting: Making Florida fun again
In a few weeks, the Athletic Director for the University of Florida, Scott Stricklin, will announce the
new head football coach for the Gators. One huge focal area for Stricklin is finding a coach that will
implement an offensive scheme that matches the Gators need.
The certain type of offense that many are calling for in Gainesville is the spread option philosophy,
while also running run/pass option attacks (once seen under Urban Meyer). Currently, the Gators 2018
recruiting class has pieces that fit the mold to these sorts of schemes.
Potential Head Coaches

Scott Frost. His immediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recruits That Must Stay in Class
Whoever the next head coach is for the Gators, they will inherit a plethora of talent on the offensive of
the ball. As it stands, they will also likely walk into one of the best recruiting classes of the 2018
cycle, highlighted by 4 star quarterback Matt Corral. Corral has reiterated multiple times that he is
committed to the Florida Gators and will be early enrolling despite the coaching changes.
From a recruiting standpoint, Corral is a west coast type of prospect that can arrive in Gainesville and
compete day one at the quarterback positions. The different skillset he will provide for this position
group is something the unit has been missing for quite some time. The ability to extend plays, throw
on the run, and move the chains with his legs separates Corral from many quarterbacks in this class.
He has a legitimate opportunity to start game one next season, with the inadequate play Florida has
seen from multiple quarterbacks this season. For a spread offensive scheme, Corral is the perfect fit.
But, along with Corral, the next coach will need to get wide receiver prospects Jacob Copeland and
Jamarr Chase to stay firm with their commitments to the Gators #AllBite18 class. Both players
possess unbelievable athletic ability that can piece together this broken offense. Their abilities to reel
in tough catches, fool defenders in their route tree, and their deep ball threat are all pieces this Florida

The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911
A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had
merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working
conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and
Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced
to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in
September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the
International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired
many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the
garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on
November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12).
The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of
improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911. Years before the
tragedy, the motivations of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company workers to participate in the Uprising of
Twenty Thousand were

Pros And Cons Of Farm Subsidies
For many years, there have been numerous critics of farm subsidies. Free market conservatives
welfare state defending liberals alike have supported deep cuts in these payments to farmers. In many
peoples eyes, farmers are wealthier than the average American. So why should farmers get tens of
billions of dollars each year in the form of federal aid? According to the authors of the Farm Bill, there
would be bold cuts in some of these controversial subsidy programs. The opposition to the Farm Bill
argued that cutting/eliminating one big subsidy altogether would save taxpayers a total of
approximately $23 billion over a period of ten years. However, according to the Congressional Budget
Office, total government aid to farmers will swell to $24 by this year (2017). In my opinion, despite
what the politicians in Washington say, farmers will always get their money. That is, the agriculture
committees in the Congress will always make sure that farmers get their money. ... Show more content

As a fiscal conservative, I want to eliminate programs that ultimately cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
Also, farm subsidies continue to tie farmers in a knot of unproductive regulations. According to the
CATO Institute, farm subsidies also seem to damage the nation s economy. Farm programs cause
overproduction, the overuse of marginal farmland, land price inflation excess borrowing by farm
businesses. In addition, according to the Government Accountability Office, there are about $500
million worth of improper farm payment each year. Also, since about 2000, the federal government
has paid $1.3 billion in subsidies to people who own farmland that is not even used for the purpose of
farming. If farm subsidies were to be completely eliminated, agriculture in the U.S. would continue to
thrive because farms would adjust plant crops that diversify their sources of

Who Introduced Innovations in the Kashmiri Shawl
Kings or Communities: Who introduced innovations in the Kashmiri Shawl?
After briefly discussing the genesis of the Kashmiri Shawls we will now try to explore another main
aspect of this study that is who really transformed Kashmiri shawl industry. All the historical
chronicles and travelogues have overstated the role of the Kings in the development of the Kashmiri
shawls. Nowhere is the role of the local communities delineated. Almost all historians and scholars
who have worked on shawls have consensus on the fact that all the new technicalities visible in the
Shawl making were possible because of the Kings who ruled Kashmir in the past. But, which political
rule has more influenced the shawl industry can t be ascertained with certainty. That is why Ames
(1986) contends that it is impossible to speak of one great period in the development of the Kashmiri
shawl; each culture brought its own unique contribution. The development of the Kashmiri shawl is
influenced directly by changing historical circumstances
In this section we tried to deconstruct this historical claim that the shawl industry in Kashmir
developed because of the innovations introduced by various Kings. We explored the nature of this
royal patronage and the role various Kings played in the development of the pashmina shawls in
Kashmir. We found that Kashmiri pashmina shawl industry developed because of the ingenuity and
creative potential of the local communities.

Human Consumption Of Silkworm Pupae
4. Safety/ Regulations
4.1. Safety Evaluation with Respect to Formulations, Functionality, and Processing.
Human consumption of silkworm pupae is prevalent in many countries such as China, Japan, and
Thailand. It can be traced back to a thousand years ago in many African and Asian cultures 24. The
utilization of silkworm pupae in food is still a traditional practice25. Research shows that there are no
toxic effects, mutagenicity and abnormal effects related to silkworm pupae and they are safe for
human consumption26. Foodborne pathogens are one of the major public health concerns in
developing countries. In our target region, foodborne illnesses are common due to poor general
hygiene, lack of professional equipment and inadequate food handling at home27. In Ethiopia, the
average annual incidence level of foodborne illnesses is 5.8% and average death associated with
diarrhea, the major symptoms caused by food related diseases, is 45%28. Common pathogens related
with animal origin food products are Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli O157:H727.
4.2. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs)
In order to assure food safety, Nu Stew would be produced in standardized GMP facilities. The
facilities will be maintained at constant room temperature and air velocity. The operating staff would
be educated with adequate knowledge of safe food processing. During the production, the hazard

Parkinson s Disease
Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of
nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life
activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun
and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it
refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions
between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the
risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that
makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The
effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that
the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These
combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will
ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that
influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences
of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be
difficult. Growing up I had an uncle who had Parkinson disease. He got this from

  • 2. Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero Richard as an Anti hero: To what extent does Richard embody this archetype? In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. The play opens up with Richard s, (Duke of Gloucester) soliloquy: I am determined to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard says to Lady Anne: Your beauty was the cause of the effect: Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep To undertake the death of all the world, So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129) Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he had murdered both her father and husband. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in response. Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard succeeds in manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will provide Anne with the emotional support she would need; especially after suffering two loses. By persuading and manipulating Lady Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a truce with the house of Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds. Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. Richard acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge 235). I will deliver for you or else lie for you (1, 1,115.) are the exact words that Richard expresses to Clarence when Clarence was being sent to the tower. • 3. The Great War And Modern Memory By Paul Fussell In 1975 the Oxford University Press published the first edition of The Great War and Modern Memory written by Paul Fussell. As Fussell states in the opening line, this book is about the British experience on the Western Front from 1914 to 1918. In this paper I will argue, that despite the numerous literary awards this book has won, it contains historical inaccuracies and shortcomings in relation to the accurate information provided that takes away from the prestige of the book. Despite the numerous negative aspects of the book, this paper will also briefly highlight the few positive areas of the book, therefore providing an in depth analysis of the book. When analyzing any sort of book, it is best for the reader to have a basic summary and understanding of the books arguments and evidence in order to understand further arguments made about said book. It is important to note at the beginning of this paper that Fussell fought in the Second World War, something he does not mention until the end of his book. Fussell also states that as wounded ex infantry officer, who is fascinated and at times obsessed with his own experience in Europe during the Second World War, he related his circumstances to those that he wrote about who participated in the First World War. It is important to keep in mind because it may influence how Fussell wrote his book and the reader should be aware of this fact while reading this analysis of his work. Fussell s book contains nine chapters that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. School Tryout Essay There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why schools need to permit tryouts. Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve. (Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete) should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally, Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Vacation Rentals Or Hotels Vacation rentals or hotels, that is the question. When choosing the most suitable accommodation for your trip, there are a few factors that come into play. For example, how much are you willing to spend for a night? After all, the money that doesn t go into accommodation, goes into meals or shopping. To help you deal with this struggle, we have compiled a checklist to guide your choice in deciding the perfect accommodation for your trip. Undecided between vacation rentals or hotels? Read on to find out more about which to pick when you are planning your perfect holiday trip. Costs can vary according to the size, location and length of your stay. If you are not on a tight budget, staying at a hotel might be more enticing than spending a night at a vacation home. Unlike a vacation rental, a hotel offers more customer oriented services such as room keeping services and a 24 hour reception and concierge to attend to any needs you might have. Stay in a hotel and when you are back after a long day spent exploring the city, you can be sure to return to a tidied room and clean sheets. If your budget is not as flexible, vacation rentals are the way to go. The biggest perk is that instead of getting a room all to yourself, you get an entire house! This often comes complete with a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen. It will be like you never left home, except maybe a little bit nicer and more exciting. More often than not, the reason why most hotels are costly is due to the fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Environmental Impact Skiing On The Environment The environmental impact skiing has as a whole on the environment has been a growing concern for some time now. Resorts especially have taken specific notice to their carbon foot print, and actions to reduce it. Several companies have taken this trend of going green and established themselves as the go to people for whatever their service/product may be. In large, the snow sports industry has stepped up their game with sustainability practices in hopes of leaving the world as they found it years ago. One slope side lighting company called Arctic Beam has developed a futuristic looking LED lighting solution that can cut energy usage in half for a typical ski resort. Although slope lighting is not a big issue for many ski resorts, the ones who offer night skiing can benefit tremendously. By reducing energy use by half and ski resort can now invest that half into other sustainable projects and further their steps to becoming an environmentally friendly resort. These lights also reduce light pollution by having a 120 degree angle of light and ability to concentrate the beam to certain areas. Compared to the usual gas light bulbs used today whose light direction is 360 degrees with little control over where the light can be directed. The difference is remarkable with visibility as well. The Arctic Beam puts out light which can be registered more readily by the human eye then light emitted by the gas bulbs. This creates a safer skiing and riding zone by increasing typical night ... • 7. Examples Of Spiritual Warfare In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape... Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:12 says, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. In the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, Uncle Screwtape sends a collection of letters to Wormwood, always signing your affectionate Uncle Screwtape. Screwtape, the older demon, counsels Wormwood on how to tempt the patient , a human. Through the course of the letters his Patient becomes a Christian. When his patient die, the human ascends to heaven and Wormwood descends to Hell. We can all agree these demons were manipulative and harmful, but we disagree whether they are pitiable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the letters Screwtape gives Wormwood (or Lewis gives us) many examples of lies from the demons. Although there are several lies, there are four deceptions, which I thought are most interesting. The first is having pride in humility. When the patient is humble Wormwood is to point out his humility, therefore reversing his obedience into pride. The second exposed deception is a distraction from the truth. When studying authors or philosophers the patient Wormwood encourages him to ask about the authors background, why he wrote it, or how he came to his conclusion. All these questions are good, but Wormwood purposefully uses these questions to distract his human from questioning the truth. I believe Lewis believes this question is important because it is important to evaluate a belief as good or bad on the basis of truth. The third lie is praying for someone else s sin. In the book, Wormwood s assignment is to encourage his patient to pray for his mother s faults, so that the patient focuses on her faults. Lastly, the fourth lie the patient believes is in his misdirected anger. Screwtape encourages Wormwood to direct the Patient s hatred of their enemy in war to his neighbors, and his good intentions toward strangers, that way his virtues are closer to fantasy than reality. In result, the patient was kind to strangers and hateful to family and close friends. Lewis brilliantly exposes these lies in an intriguing and thought provoking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Intersection of Religion and Politics in 17th 19th Century Africa The stories of Dona Beatriz, Uthman dan Fodio, and Guimba the Tyrant present three cases in which religion and politics overlapped in different ways and to varying degrees. These three individuals lived in distinct historical contexts and had unique religious trainings, sources of spiritual power, track records as religious and political authorities, goals for reshaping the religious and political landscape of their regions, reputations among their contemporaries, and obstacles with which to contend. Accordingly, Dona Beatriz was trained as a nganga marinda, an intermediary between the spiritual and temporal worlds in African societies. She displayed spiritual gifts from a young age, which was unsurprising among aristocrats in Kimpasi society. While realizing that she could not conform to traditional social roles, such as that of a subservient wife, Beatriz actively cultivated her spiritual gifts for greater social good and waged a war against all forms of greed and jealousy and its most obvious manifestation, misuse of kindoki, supernatural powers or curses (Thornton 110). Her attacks on individuals, most notably some Capuchin missionaries, preceded her martial entrance into the political fray. Dona Beatriz grew up among political instability, and by 1703 a number of religious signs had convinced many people that religious purification would bring about political stability. Dona Beatriz preached that peace could be achieved only through unification under one king, guided by devotion to Kongolese Catholic belief. Beatriz s mandate came from St. Anthony, who took up residence in her body and revealed truths about the Kongolese origins of Christianity. • 9. A Statement Of Reform Education Literacy A Statement of Reform in Educational Proficiency Pertaining to Bernie Sanders Candidacy In a recent BuzzFeed article, a freshman at UCLA was asked how his life as a college student was going. It s the remix to ignition, there s no food in the kitchen, my whole life is a mess, I don t know what s going on and I can t afford my tuition . The life of a college student is stressful. Getting to class on time after staying up all night studying and trying to earn a degree on pop tarts and canned potatoes is not an aspect many people dream of experiencing. On top of it all, students endure college with their biggest fear, how they propose to pay for it, because as most students and educators know it s expensive. So, I ve come up with a backup plan. Instead of going through all this trouble paying for some degree that doesn t even guarantee me a job after graduation, I m going to quit college, become an oven, and get up to five hundred degrees. I m joking of course, but it s an idea that could probably save you a couple of bucks. Paying for college is an eerie and sinister part of life that many Americans are forced to face every day. According to The College Board, almost seventy percent of college students in the United States, the majority being of non Caucasian decent, do not receive adequate funding and scholarships to help pay for the tuitions at high dollar public universities such as Ohio State, Arizona State and UCLA, and even inexpensive schools such as TSTC. ... In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure. Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton 2000, p. 59). The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

An evil or misfortune that comes as if in response to imprecation or as retribution. A cause of great harm or misfortune: Torment The word is a noun and is derived from twelfth century English curs . However, it can also be used as a verb, the more common definition of the word is in association with the menstrual cycle of females or using profanity. The term really hold no significance to me other than when used to do harm or wishing to do harm to someone. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any person with even a minimal education knows the term curse is used for negativity. Whether you are cursing someone who cut you off in traffic, or just telling someone to shut up , it is still releasing negativity upon someone. I m not saying I m above such actions, I am just as guilty of uttering something that wasn t nice to others. I m not proud of it, and I do try and react in a different way, but I think the thought process of most people is to react to when they feel they have been wronged. While I understand that thought process, and at times have wanted to seek revenge myself, I usually just ask the Gods and Goddess to give me strength to be of strong mind, and for them to deal justice as they see fit. While the term curse will always be associated with negativity, it is an individual choice as to whether a person believes in performing a curse or receptive of a curse. Many believe that the threefold law is a guide as to what to put out to the universe, and what can come back. • 13. Emma s View Of Love Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession with falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other people to fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her life. If she were more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself before blaming her love interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past. Emma has a very unrealistic perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone because she will always be dissatisfied. She destroyed her own marriage before it even started because of her preconceived idea of love. Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do anything for her but she does not feel the same way about him due to her fairytale idea of love. It seems as if she is not capable of separating her real life romances from the romance novels that she read when during her time at the convent. Emma is so infatuated with the thought of falling in love that it causes her to experience many problems in every aspect of her life. • 14. The Dangers Of Animal Abuse Background Research: What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are thrown into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self processed animal rescue after they were found in the rescuer s filthy home. ( No Kill Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe shelter . The shelter being a dirty home. Originally headed by Alfred Rosenburg, the Nazis took over the institution when Hitler rose to power and it became known as the Reichskulturkammer in 1933. The RKK was created to combat cultural influence that did not further Germanness . A division of the RKK became known as the Reichsmusikammer, or the RMK, that was used to censor music all throughout Germany. The only problem with the RMK was that it was entirely run by men with almost no musical background. • 16. Essay on The Epic of Gilgamesh on Immortality and Its... As long as humans have lived and died, we have strived to know the meaning of life. We assume that there is a meaning or importance to life, and in doing so try to provide some permanence to our existence so that a greater machine might continue to function. It is only natural, then, for us to be interested in the concept of immortality. If there is purpose to an ending life, a life that does not end must be supremely important. This idea is exemplified throughout time in stories both historical and fictional. The Epic of Gilgamesh is one such story. Gilgamesh deals with immortality on nearly every level, and at the same time points back to mortality, trying to extract a reason for living and dying. Ostensively, The Epic of Gilgamesh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Bull of Heaven is sent to Uruk from the gods, Gilgamesh and Enkidu slay it quickly by stabbing a sword into the Bull s neck (Gilgamesh 82). If the Bull of Heaven is a god, then clearly the gods can be killed. The Bull of Heaven also seems to be a guardian of sorts for the gods, which implies the gods need protection. Later the story describes a flood weapon that gods are actually fearful of (Gilgamesh 113), perhaps because it could bring about their death. This all makes an interesting distinction between immortality and invincibility – although life might continue forever if left alone, it is not necessarily incapable of being stopped. And the spiritual life seems to continue for humans when the physical life ends. Enkidu talks about being taken to a horrible afterlife: He seized me, drove me down to the house where those who stay are deprived of light, where dust is their food, and clay their bread. (Gilgamesh 89). Thus, while humans might be able to obtain spiritual immortality, it will only be a state of suffering, which reflects back to the negativity of seeking immortality in life. Gilgamesh also deals with perpetual life by symbolically demonstrating death and rebirth. • 17. Financial Crisis in This Time is Different by Reinhart and... People always think that the technology renovations, institutional changes and experience gains can make the world emerge from financial crisis saying that this time is different . But they may be too optimistic. The outrageous truth is that each new financial crisis is not predicted or forestalled. As Reinhart and Rogoff said in their book This Time is Different , technology is changing, fashion is changing, but self deception of governments and investors are not. A banking crisis usually refers to a situation in a general market adjustment when faith in banking institutions falls, and people start trying to move their money to other places for safe keeping. (RationalWiki) If we need to find something in common for all financial crises, that will be excessive build ups of debt. Excessive debt accumulation makes banking industry more profitable and more stable than it really is and it will easily be ignored at the beginning. However, if the equilibrate has been destroyed, systemic risk will grow and increases more quickly and greater than usual. • 18. Where Is The Line Between Depression And Being Depressed... Where is the Line Between Having Depression and Being Depressed ? I remember it well, the first time I thought I had depression. I was 17. My psychology textbook had innocently listed the symptoms of clinical depression, and I read them with increasing fervour, the cogs in my mind whirring and clicking into place. This is me! I thought, my obviously fully developed adult brain making proper conclusions. Equal feelings of dread and relief settled into the pit of my stomach. Despite my knowledge that psychology students have a tendency to incorrectly self diagnose, this was my reality for the six years separating now and then. I maintained this belief through a detrimental concoction of confirmation bias and self fulfilling prophecies. Countless times I ve sat, mindless gaze fixed on the wall, eyes brimming with silent, slow tears. The void opens in my chest, I reach for my phone, then stop, with the helpless hesitation of one who truly believes that none of her friends will care. You are useless, my mind whispers. You are worthless. I stare listlessly at stucco ceilings, white and blank and empty; I hide within the folds of duvet covers; I wither within a trench of self pity. The insidious beast settles in, to either destroy my relationships or render me useless in any endeavour. But, once the storm passes, I am myself again ostensibly flatline but not necessarily depressed. Over the years my experience has not continued to be so bleak, though, and I discovered in my ... Due to the recession the company is experiencing a decline in profits, however, the business remains profitable. Potentially, the recession could continue and business may decline further. A proactive plan is better than being reactive in regards to addressing the declining profits. Layoffs are the quickest and easiest solution to the issue. On the other hand, the success of the company is in large part due to the hard work of the staff who would lose their employment. The culture of inclusiveness was one of the things that attracted Dennis to the company and the layoffs could seriously damage the institutions culture (Gentile, 2009). What levers and arguments can be used to influence those who disagree with you? Layoffs are not always the best solution for a decline in company profits. A business must resolve the conflict that exists between their responsibility to meet economic targets and the ethical responsibility of non maleficence. Rumor has it that he saved a young bear in the wild, and thus gave the cute and cuddly toy a name. But what really got Roosevelt interested in the environmental concerns of the nation? • 21. The Differences Between The And Of The Christian Realist... The different Christian views struggle with the brokenness of human nature. The difference in views lies in how this brokenness is interpreted. How does one balance the human being who is born in the image and likeness of God, yet, has fallen from grace? The two distinct views will revolve around seeking answers to this question, and what is the best way to act on these answers in dealing with the broken human. It becomes a question of mercy and grace in this world versus a constant searching by the human, which only ends in the presence of God. The latter reflects the view of the Christian Realist. The philosopher and father of the Christian Realist position, Reinhold Niebuhr, argues that Augustine s City of God lays the foundation for the Christian realist thought. It is in this work that Augustine presents a realistic view of humankind that was in contrast with the classical view of the human being. The latter s view idealized human s unlimited potential because of their ability to reason. Niebuhr argues that this difference in the viewpoints of Augustine and the classical philosophers lies in Augustine s biblical, rather than rationalistic, conception of human selfhood with the ancillary conception of the seat of evil being in the self (Niebuhr, Christian Realism and Political Problems 123 124). It is from this concept that Niebuhr argues that human nature is evil as a result of sin. This sinful nature of the human has forever shaped his movements. It drives his ... Not only has this game changed the lives of people living in the great white north; hockey itself has earned a reputation where fights and violence steal the show. The moment where two players drop their gloves and pull up the always interfering elbow guards could bring a whole arena to its feet. However, In the last couple years, this iconic piece of the game has been challenged by everyone from hockey experts to hockey moms. People against the violence would make the argument that it takes away from skilled players having to always watch out for the notorious goon skating around the ice. Not to mention increasing injuries in the game of hockey that are presumably linked to over physical play. These are just some of arguments against the art of fighting in the NHL. But to keep good ratings and the millions of dollars the hockey industry brings in each year, fighting must remain a key part of Canada s game. With hockey being invented back in the late 1800 s, at that time there was not even the thought of having fights during a game. Fighting was only introduced a couple years later. This forced the NHL to make rules for fighting, giving lengthy suspension for dropping the gloves against players on the other team(Fitzpatrick). • 28. The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911 A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12). The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911. Free market conservatives welfare state defending liberals alike have supported deep cuts in these payments to farmers. In many peoples eyes, farmers are wealthier than the average American. After briefly discussing the genesis of the Kashmiri Shawls we will now try to explore another main aspect of this study that is who really transformed Kashmiri shawl industry. All the historical chronicles and travelogues have overstated the role of the Kings in the development of the Kashmiri shawls. Nowhere is the role of the local communities delineated. Almost all historians and scholars who have worked on shawls have consensus on the fact that all the new technicalities visible in the Shawl making were possible because of the Kings who ruled Kashmir in the past. But, which political rule has more influenced the shawl industry can t be ascertained with certainty. That is why Ames (1986) contends that it is impossible to speak of one great period in the development of the Kashmiri shawl; each culture brought its own unique contribution. The development of the Kashmiri shawl is influenced directly by changing historical circumstances In this section we tried to deconstruct this historical claim that the shawl industry in Kashmir developed because of the innovations introduced by various Kings. • 32. Parkinson s Disease Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be difficult.
