Affluenza Sparknotes
Introduction I. We re a nation of consumers exploited by deceptive marketing ploys that compete for
our every dollar. a. According to the MAGNA US Forecast Update March 2017 the advertising
industry spent 180 billion dollars marketing everything from presidential candidates to cars and beauty
products. b. Companies mass produce products overseas which using cheap parts that often don t last
very long, causing us to have to purchase a replacement, creating a perpetual cycle known as planned
obsolescence. II. In the book Affluenza: How Overconsumption Is Killing Us and How to Fight Back
Affluenza is defined as a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety,
and waste resulting from the dogged pursuit of more. a. As a society, we re consumed with wanting
more whether it s the latest model or the newest hot item. b. Our consumerism leads to pollution,
depletion of our resources, and mass quantities of waste. III. We have become a very wasteful society
where it seems as if everything is disposable; as a society, we need to be conscious of just how much
waste we produce and what we are able to do to reduce that amount to protect our environment. Body
I. The Environmental Protection Agency released the Advancing Sustaining Materials Management:
2014 Fact Sheet in November of 2016 and Americans produce 4.4 pounds of trash every single day. a.
After recycling, composting and combustion with energy recovery, only 2.3 pounds of our daily trash
ends up as waste in a landfill. b. Nevertheless in 2014, 136 million tons of waste still ended up in a
landfill. II. We all hear we need to recycle. We see labels with the iconic recycling symbol, but if that s
all we do we re missing a huge portion of being ethically conscious consumers. a. The EPA has a
Waste Management Hierarchy and it begins with reducing and reusing what we consume in order to
reduce waste. b. Source reduction not only reduces pollution but saves our natural resources and your
money! c. It goes against American culture to want less, where there s always an ad for the latest
gadget or a sale at just about any store. III. However, we need to change and there s so much we can
do to reduce our consumption. a. I m

Modern Revival Of The Cornett
The cornetto is a wooden wind instrument widely used throughout Europe from the 15th through the
17th centuries. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with the trumpet like instrument
called the cornet. A hybrid between a woodwind (like the recorder) and a brass instrument (like the
trumpet), it was a long and slender tube, curved to one side, and had open finger holes. Sound was
produced by blowing into a cup shaped mouthpiece, like that of the trumpet. The combination of the
mouthpiece and finger holes results in difficulties of intonation (pitch) and embouchure (mouth
positions). Once mastered, it s extremely agile and has a range of dynamics and expressions that span
between brassy trumpet sounds to incredibly sweet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the classification system of Hornbostel and Sachs, they are classified as trumpets with
finger holes . They flourished mainly in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, but began a
decline in popularity from the second half of the seventeenth; from 1700 onwards their use fell off
dramatically, even though in some parts of Europe they persisted until the early 1800s. Their modern
revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as Otto Steinkopf in
Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts in public in the
1950s.
Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for
example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for
cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind style
fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re invention of
both their playing technique and usage. Cornetts are usually considered to be difficult to play well, but
performance standards have improved dramatically over the last fifty years or so.
If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor white
trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for their
poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with

How Is Carrie A Universal Fairy Tale
Fairytales are typically interpreted as children s stories about magical and imaginary beings and lands,
but that is often not the case. Many people do not realize that fairytales are very present in adult
literature. These stories are often disguised, and contain topics that appeal to older generations such as
matters of sex and death. The novel, Carrie by Stephen King, is a modern day fairytale that is
perceived as a horror by most readers. Alex. E. Alexander exhibits the idea that Carrie is a universal
fairytale in his critical essay, Carrie a Universal Fairytale . He exemplifies the characteristics of a
fairytale and how Carrie mimics these trends. Novels such as Cinderella and Rapunzel, contain
elements of fairy tales, that Carrie also possesses. Much like Cinderella, the protagonist, Carrie, goes
through a rite of passage, maturation. This thought to bring forth her supernatural power, an element
that is evident in Rapunzel. Also in Cinderella, is the presence of an antagonist adult figure, Carrie s
natural mother, but Cinderella s stepmother. The commonalities between the novel and the stories,
prove to the reader that Carrie, although morbid, is truly a fairytale.
One characteristic of most fairytale s is rights of passage. In stories such as Cinderella, the protagonist
lives through an event that marks an important stage in her life, marriage. For Carrie, this event was
maturation. Alexander explains: Girls in their first period are placed in isolated huts where

Essay on Diego Rivera
Diego Rivera
Diego Rivera he is a Mexican painter who produced murals on social themes and who ranks one of
my countries greatest artists. He was born in Guanajuato and educated at the San Carlos Academy of
Fine Arts , in
Mexico City. he studied painting in Europe between 1907 and 1921, becoming familiar with the
innovative cubist forms of the French painter Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. In 1921 Riviera
returned to
Mexico and took a prominent part in revival of mural painting initiated by artists and sponsored by the
government . Believing that art should serve the working people and be readily available to them , he
concentrated on painting large frescoes, concerning the history and social problems of Mexico, on the

Rivera was an active member of the Mexican Communist party , and he painted murals in the National
Palace , Mexico City 1929, and the Palace Cortes ,
Cuernavaca1930 .In 1929 Riviera married Frida Karlo who is now considered to have been a leading
20th century Mexican painter.
I think what I like the most the murals that he painted I liked how he drew the Indian people their
faces the scenery , the palace and his style. Riviera s murals are rich in archeological detail and
painted in sharply outlined , linear style. Most of them have clear , three dimensional figures in a
shallow space , although a deep spatial extension of landscape appears at the top of some works .
Rivera also executed easel paintings and portraits and designed and built his
Mexico City house , the Anahuacalli, which is now a museum housing the extensive collection of pre
Columbian art that he left for Mexican people . I liked the water colors that Riviera used for the
murals and the way he painted the pictures .I imagine take him a long time to draw the murals and
paint them and drawing the faces . I have seen his murals in the walls in Mexico City and I really
think is very hard to draw the murals and I also have seen in the museums alot of pictures that Riviera
has drawn and I was really impressed with all his work.
The thing that I liked the most were the murals that he drew and the painting and how he drew the
faces of the people and the different colors of skins of the

Giant Panda Affected by Road Construction
The Qinling giant pandas are a slowly diminishing species. If left unprotected they will eventually
become extinct. Fan, Li, Quan, Wu, Hu, and Yang investigated the effects of road construction on
endangered Qinling giant pandas. Road construction can greatly affect the environment. According to
the article, the harmful effects of roadway expansion extend to an area ten times broader than the
roadway itself (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). It can cause harmful chemicals to contaminate water sources
and food supplies. Subsequently, road construction isolates species from one another, and this in turn
blocks gene flow..., which steeply [decreases] genetic diversity (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). On the other
hand, road networks can isolate these species from their main water source and/or food supply. The
giant panda s only food source is bamboo. Bamboo is a fickle plant that grows in certain habitats,
under pristine conditions. Therefore, becoming isolated from bamboo forestry is detrimental to their
survival. Researchers investigated the impact of road construction on giant panda s habitat and its
carrying capacity in the Qinling Mountains (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145).
Methods:
First, the scientists determined a study area that would serve as their representative sample of the
population. The south slope of the Qinling Mountains was chosen because it contained a rich
population of Qinling giant pandas, and the environmental conditions were optimal for bamboo
growth. Secondly,

Security And Application Software Within A School...
In this report, I will be discussing operating systems, management of information, security and
application software within a school environment and personal use. The context of this report will be
inclusive of my internal assessments of which I have completed at school, and at home. Operating
software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and software of a
computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every action and task
which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software for it to operate.
Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise operating systems, of
which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the computer s hard drive and is
intangible. It includes the computer programs, folders, files and documents. The internet browser, like
Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome that allows you to visit online web pages and the operating system
that the browser is running on is considered software, while computer hardware is any physical device
used in or with your computer or machine. It is something you can physically touch. Examples of
hardware include a mouse, monitor, keyboard and motherboards. The interfaces of applications,
device management, processor management, memory management, user interface and storage
management are the six main tasks controller by the operating system. When saving to a USB stick or

The Battle Of Little Bighorn And Custer s Last Stand
Custer s luck! The biggest Indian village on the continent! Supposedly, these were the last words
recorded to have been uttered by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer before the infamous
battle that would claim his life and the lives of hundreds of soldiers (Dippie 2). Nearly a century and a
half later, this conflict is immersed in just as much controversy as it was the day it occurred. The
Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer s Last Stand is perhaps more famous due to the difficulty of
differentiating the myths versus the facts, rather than its actual historical significance in the 19th
century. The different interpretations via historians, archaeologists, and Native Americans have
contributed to the positive and negative versions of the battle that exist today. However, by
understanding the basics, conflict, and research that surrounds the Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer
s Last Stand, one can form their own opinion and better interpret the ways in which it is portrayed in
media and throughout time by interested persons and descendent communities. In 1874, Custer led an
army expedition to the Black Hills of present day South Dakota, a sacred property of the Lakota Sioux
Nation, which was recognized under the Sioux Treaty of 1868. There, Custer and his men found a
great amount of gold, and when President Grant and the US administration offered to buy the area, the
Lakota Sioux nation refused to sell due to its holiness in their culture. Two years later, the

Why Is Credibility Of Online Sources Important In Education
When researchers begin looking online for sources it can become tiresome looking through countless
web pages to find a credible source. On Global Post.com an article, Why is Credibility of Online
Sources Important in Education? written by Kori Morgan said, One problem of authorship on the
Internet is that anyone with the skills and equipment can publish a website. Although a resource may
have good information, it may be published by someone without qualifications, experience and
education. This quote by Morgan is a great explanation of why online sources can become trouble for
people s research. Without knowing the proper techniques for reviewing websites this can be fatal for
the author s paper. Starting with the least credible website,

The Four Dimensions Of Qualitative Research
The following paper will discuss the qualitative research, while describing its dimensions, basic
concepts, methods and differences. First, it will portray the four dimensions of the qualitative
research: positivism, postpositivism, constructivism and objectivism, which are divided into
epistemological and ontological. Secondly, it will describe the definition and basic concepts of the
qualitative research; and thirdly, it will represent the five methods possible while conducting a
qualitative research: phenomenology, ethnography, action research, grounded theory, and case study. It
will elaborate each method s definition, distinctive features and data collection methods. In the end, it
will present the differences between all above mentioned research methods. I. Dimensions I.1.
Epistemological positions Positivism is an epistemological position that supports the implementation
of the methods of the natural sciences to the study of social reality. According to Johnson and
Duberley (2000) it is an approach to research that attempts to match as closely as possible to that in
the natural sciences, by: a) relying on observations of the empirical world. b) Avoiding the use of
subjective or metaphysical speculation. c) Attempting to be objective, ... Show more content on

that they are in a constant state of revision (Bryman et al. 2006). Social constructivists hold

As with all things, it takes some hard work and effort to keep your garden looking good. However,
there are a few ways to make your maintenance work in the garden quick and easy. 1. Get the pH of
your soil by taking it to your local garden center or even your agriculture department of the local
college or county co op. By formulating your soil to fit your needs, you will have the best looking
garden around. Adding compost and even organic fertilizers are a great choice for maintaining your
garden soil. If you can get the pH right, your plants should last for ages. 2. Keep like minded plants
together based on needs. You should try to keep plants that need water in one particular area while
plants with fewer water needs should be planted in another place. The same principle goes for
sunshine as well. Some plants just need a little bit of sun while others need the shade. Keeping like
minded plants together takes the guessing out of maintenance. 3. Choose raised bed containers for a
controllable approach to gardening. The raised beds allow for easier weed control as well as the proper
drainage, fertilizer, watering and more. Plus, you don t have to get on your hands and knees to care for
your plants. 4. Mulching is important to plants. Not only is it a material that looks good but also does
some great things for your place as well. For instance, mulch is not only attractive but

Culture In Huck Finn
Mark Twain s satire The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn comments society s culture in the south and
its power to influence people. As the narrator, Huck Finn, travels south on the Mississippi River, his
perception of the world around him evolves and undermines the faucets of naturalism and he makes a
major moral decision. However, newly found conscience comes at a price, the loss of his innocence
and the realization of the functions of his society. Overall, this piece is a comment on culture and its
ability to influence and shape the perceptions of an individual that are originally dictated by heredity
and environmental factors. There are several examples in the novel that comments on the culture of
the south and it power of influence it has on people. It is ironic to characterize the characters, such as
the Grangerfords, Huck encounters on his journey. As blusterous as they are, the Grangerfords are
respectable characters driven by loyalty and respect, however, their way of living is ironic as they are
driven by guns and feuds as they preach all about brotherly love, and suck tiresomeness; but

Designing The Fashion Industry ( Mcalpine 14 )
According to scratchhard.com, the fashion industry generates an average of $20 billion each year.
Fashion designers are the heart of the fashion world. Designing is a form of art that is translated into
clothing. Inspiration for the designs comes from trends, art, culture, places, and the media. Fashion
designers create ideas which they turn into clothing to sell. The first step of designing is researching
current fashion trends and predicting future trends. Trends determine the success of the fashion
industry (McAlpine 14). Designers choose a speciality to design. Swimwear, bridal wear, children s
clothing, footwear, and men s wear are a few examples of design categories. Sketching the original

Fashion designers can create apparel for numerous people or for a select few. Haute couture designers
create clothes specifically for a customer. One outfit could cost thousands of dollars. Ready to wear
designs are produced in large numbers but sold at high prices. Mass produced clothing is constructed
in large numbers and sold at reasonable prices. This is where most designers work. Boutique designers
work alone or in groups to create their own designs and find outlets to sell their clothing. In 2012,
twenty five percent of the designers were self employed. Large apparel companies usually consist of a
team of designers headed by a creative manager. Very few designers work for high fashion brands.
High fashion designers earn the most money and are the most well known. Many different outlets of
design are available as career options (McAlpine 14).
Formal education fro fashion designers is not required, but it is recommended. Preparing to become a
fashion designer can start in high school by taking art, home economics, math, and chemistry (Morkes
324). When an employer is seeking to hire a designer, a person with a fashion degree, an impressive
portfolio, and experience or an internship will be the most likely to receive the job. Many universities
offer various degrees pertaining to fashion. Baylor University in Waco, Texas is one of the top twenty

Health Halo Effect
The article The Fair Trade Effect: Health Halos From Social Ethics by Jonathon P. Schuldt,
Dominique Muller, and Norbert Schwarz claims that there is something called the halo effect, which is
when someone or something has a good first impression and further evaluations are seen as good on
unrelated topics. This effect also applies to food and is called the health halo effect. Examples of this
are when companies put labels on foods like low fat or healthy, this leads to people thinking that the
food product has fewer calories, estimating less calories, and leads to people ordering higher calorie
foods. There is also discussion about whether ethical food claims like fair trade, organic, and locally
produced might influence peoples perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point in the article is that if there is the word organic or fair trade on the product it affects
how healthy a person perceives the product to be. I agree with this point because I am one of those
people, I am more likely to buy a product if it has organic or fair trade on the label because I assume it
is healthier. When I see this on the label I think low fat or low calories. However, there are other
factors that can influence the likely hood of a person choosing a product and thinking it is healthy, like
emoticons. A person is more likely to avoid a product if there is a unhappy face emoticon on the
label(Vasiljevic et al. 7). The second point is that people are more likely to think a product has higher
calories or lower calories depending on whether a company treats its employees fairly or not. To me
this point depends on how informed the person is about products and companies. Many people are not
really informed about how companies treat their employees, especially when companies only allow
the public to see what they want us to see. The study was only conducted on people who had strong
ethical food values but what about people who do not have strong ethical food values. That is why
labels are so important it determines if a person perceives the product as unhealthy or healthy, but as
discussed in class even food labels can be

Project Organization And Management Structure
Project organization and Management Structure: As the experimental methods are complementary to
each other, but are not critically interdependent, the cooperative design of my research plans will
greatly facilitate my ability to accomplish the specific aims. To monitor the progress and project
quality, I will conduct meetings with Prof. Battaglia on a bi weekly basis, write monthly reports that
can be incorporated into peer reviewed publications, and present my research outcomes at lab group
meetings on a quarterly term. This way I can keep on a self consistent project monitoring process and
receive essential feedback from Prof. Battaglia and my prospective colleagues in the laboratory on a

The Scarlet Letter, By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Not everything in life has just one meaning. Symbolism occurs in everyday ordinary life. One of the
most recognizable stories that contain symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter .
Symbolism is when an object is used in place of a different object. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the
most symbolic writers in all of American history. In The Scarlet Letter , the letter A is used to
symbolize a variety of different concepts. The three major symbolistic ideas that the letter A represents
in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter are; shame, guilt, and ability.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter , the first symbolistic idea that the letter A represents is
the idea of shame. In the beginning of the story Hester Prynne is about to be punished for her dirty
deed that she has done. The whole idea is to shame Hester as her punishment. In order for Hester to
receive her punishment they must first parade her around and make a huge deal about a small
situation. The make a mountain out of a molehill by having Hester stand on a scaffolding and have the
whole town look upon her while the scarlet letter is given to her. Hawthorne says in chapter one page
59 of the book, Thus she will be a living sermon against sin, until the ignominious letter be engraved
upon her tombstone. The letter is there and will stay there until the day she dies. Even then, the letter
will still be engraved among her tombstone, so as when anyone walks by they

The United Fruit Company As A Position For Commit...
The United Fruit Company was founded 1899, after the takeover of the Boston Fruit Company, thus
forming the largest banana company in the world (Landmeier, 1997). Through strategic business
moves, immediately developed a monopoly over the rapidly expanding banana trade in Latin America.
This new company had 112 miles of railroad, 212,394 acres of land, and a capital of $11,230,00 and
proceeded to buy lands in Santo Domingo, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, and Cuba, and increase
additional acreage in Nicaragua, Jamaica, and Colombia (May and Plaza 1958, p.7) as well as
exporting 16 million bunches of bananas per year. As a result of all these factors, from wealth to mass
ownership of land, it is clear to see how the United Fruit Company were ... Show more content on

Primarily, the first issue that arises is the fact that a company that was founded in the United States
dealing with military dictatorships in less advanced politically as well as economically countries than
themselves is undoubtedly a form of exploitation, but also manipulation as citizens of the United
States would not have been aware such a relationship existed between the United Fruit company and
Latin American military dictatorships. In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976) argues that corporations
with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control the markets in which they
operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see
this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators, United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus)
with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in
with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on
its own. The state can act as a facilitator for the process of exploitation and profit over people. For
example, the U.S Government bears responsibility for United Fruit s enterprises as it encouraged the
government of Guatemala to adopt policies that would benefit American enterprise and the United
Fruit Company (Dosal 2005, p.3). Corporations and the state participate in criminality as a direct
result of the nature and ethos of capitalism. Despite the

The Great Gatsby Nick Carraway Narrator
Some would argue the most vital character of the story is the protagonist, however many more would
say it is the narrator. The narrator describes what his happening in the story, and we see every moment
through their eyes. But alas, not all narrators can be trusted. Especially in a time like when The Great
Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was written. The narrator for this book is Nick Carraway, who grew up
with his well off family in Chicago and then went to Yale. Throughout the book, he reveals attributes
about him that make him seem like a reliable narrator, however he may very not be.
With the first few paragraphs of the novel, Fitzgerald starts to build a narrator that readers feel they
can really trust. For example, Nick begins the book quoting the advice he received from his father
remember that all the people in this world haven t had all the advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald
1). Then he goes on to state that he usually tries to reserve his judgements. One after another, he
stresses that he is not judgemental. Nick also has a secondary role, which means that he is the one
observing most situations rather than taking part in them. Fitzgerald makes him ... Show more content

At the beginning of the book, he stresses to the readers that he is a trustworthy character. However, the
favoritism he gives certain characters makes him seem unreliable. First of all, he is extremely
sympathetic to Gatsby. He barely interacted with the rest of the characters in the book, but for some
reason chooses to value Gatsby above all of them. On page 44 he says to Gatsby They re a rotten
crowd...you re worth the whole damn bunch put together . It s hard to notice the favoritism he makes
with the amount of unreadable characters, but it does over romanticize the root of the story. If the
story was presented without Nick s perception of Gatsby, it is just a man who longs for a relationship
with a rich society

Advantages Of Qualitative Method
According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good knowledge of
certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from qualitative methods
comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus making it easy for the
researcher to re frame, re analyze and check the responses at a later time. Locke, et al., (2000) as cited
in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is to get the understanding about
peoples idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is that it helps the researcher to
fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a happening under investigation which
other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another advantage of qualitative methods is the use of the open ended questions for collecting the
data. This form of questions allows the participants to answer the questions in a different way by
dictating individual responses which makes the method different from other methods of research. The
method also allows the researcher to gather essential information directly from the affected
participants which he/she may not have known about. More generally, the method can be said to
provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain answers.
Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent, thus creating
a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such as what
happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The method especially
the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information necessary for a further
research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton,

Chadwick s Class Structure
The transportation changed greatly from horse drawn carriages to electric powered street cars that
were more comfortable and faster, this also meant the roads needed to be wider like they were made in
France after the revolutions by Napoleon the 3rd. Public health was made better by people like Edwin
chadwick who was an advocate for better sewer systems and cleaner factories. The class structure
changed a great amount due to reform in the government to make a middle class made up of skilled
workers and unskilled workers, this led to the class structure being more balanced and rich people
didn t control everything like the old times. Family life changed because men were seen as the bread
winner and didn t need to spend time with his family

Reintroduction of Wolves at Yellowstone Park Introduction While highly controversial, the
reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone Park has provided many beneficial ecological changes to the
entire parks ecosystem. After a nearly 70 year absence, in January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate
packs were captured in the Canadian Rockies and transported to Yellowstone National Park in the
states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (Sanders par. 2). The Canis Lupus or more commonly known

5). While in the acclimation pens the wolves were fed a diet of elk and other road kill with wolves
typically consuming 21 to 32 pounds of meat in a single feeding. In March of 1995, three of the packs
were released in Yellowstone, but with one issue; the wolves refused to exit through the gate because
they had associated it with humans, forcing the park rangers to cut a hole in the side of the enclosure
for them to escape (Sanders par. 11). Once the wolves were released two of the packs left the park and
set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside the park. On May 3, 1995
female wolf number nine gave birth to eight puppies, the first wolves to be born in the park in nearly
70 years. The mother and pups were recaptured and taken back to the acclimation pen, until the pups
were weaned (Sanders par. 15). The reason for this recapture was because at this time, this wolf and
her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf population. Since this time there have been
no other human interventions preferring to let nature take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a
second group of wolves was captured and brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with
two more acclimation pens being built, bringing the total to four. In the winter of 1997 1998 the
reintroduction of wolves was stopped due to the high success of the wolf packs breeding and the pups
surviving on their own. The breeding

Joshua 6: 14 17
You can shout now; the Battle is over
There are times in our lives when we must face some battles we think we cannot win. When such
occurs, God by his Spirit gives you the victory.
In Joshua, the 6th chapter God gave the city of Jericho into the hands of Israel. I want to tell of some
of the events that led up to the victory of Jericho. Joshua and the people of Israel ventured out from
Shittim in Chapter 3 of the book of Joshua before they cross the Jordan River. Shittim was a place in
the land of Moab where they had rested from their victories over the cities of Sihon and OG and the
Ark of the Lord was with them. Who was Joshua? Joshua was the son of Nun and the tribe of
Ephraim. Joshua s name means savior, a deliverer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

weakness and if we have strong faith in him we will have our victories. As a result, you must have a
one on one relationship with Jesus. My faith and trust in Jesus brought me through the battle with
Cancer. I know God is a healer and he would not have brought me this far to leave me. Jesus said if I

Aboriginal Students In Residential Schools Case Study
They achieved this by introducing laws, such as the Indian Act, which prohibited the Aboriginals
people basic rights, and with the introduction residential school that took away Aboriginal children
from their parents and the reserves in order to assimilate the children from a young age with teaching
them the Christian values and Euro Canadian manners. Both the Government of Canada and the
Church worked together in order to benefit each other. The residential schools were a church run

Usually, the schools were built in areas where they were far away from the Aboriginal homes, which
therefore cut off ties with family and community influences. In these residential schools, children were
stripped of their identity of their heritage where they were forbidden to speak their native language
and where only English was allowed to be spoken; not allowed to wear their native clothing, this
caused children the loss of their belief in their traditions of their native culture due to not being able to
put them in practice because they were the Other which is considered inferior (rel after 304). The most
horrible things of this residential school if the children did speak their native language or did anything

Comparsion of Three Renaissance Paintings and Sculptures...
The Renaissance was big part of the past era even today we still have festivals celebrating the
Renaissance. I am going to compare and contrast the difference between three different paintings and
sculptures that were a big part of the Renaissance era. The Limbourg brothers were both born in the
Netherlands, but worked in France. They featured calendars of religious feast days; these calendars are
richly embellished with finely detailed scenes of activities and tasks associated with certain months
and seasons of the year. In the first painting called May, you can see a parade of aristocratic gentleman
and ladies who have come out in their bright and colorful, bejeweled costumes to celebrate the first
day of May. In the painting you can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were specific criteria for the competition panel to which all submissions had to conform. In
addition to the Abraham and Isaac story, complete with all of its figures within a four lobed frame (pg
384). Andrea Pisano had already fashioned one of the doors in the 1330 s and the idea was to match
the new with the old. Brunelleschi s version was very expressive and barely contained the Gothic style
frame. In his piece of work you see Abraham lunging for Isaac s throat with a knife, then you see an
angel coming at the same moment to grab Abraham s arm to stop him from slashing his son s throat
and killing him. Isaac s head had been wrenched to the side to expose his neck and his whole body is
compressed between the harsh stone of the sacrificial altar on which he kneels and the strength of his
father bearing down on him (pg 394). You can see a ram stuck in the thicket and just lies in front of
Isaac and at the bottom you see a donkey along with two servants. Brunelleschi s work is by far more
dramatic and disturbing, all angels and movement and raw emotion, like nothing that had ever been
created before... [Walker 22 23]. Then you have Ghiberti s panel that is of the same subject, but
completely different in all possible ways. You see Abraham body that echoes the shape of the rock and
then lunges toward Isaac in a dynamic counterthrust. In the same instance Isaac

Conservative Judaism Vs Liberal Judaism
One basic belief of Judaism is the belief in one god who is responsible for the creation of the universe,
and who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. Another belief that Jews hold, which is
somewhat unique among monotheistic religions is the belief that god does not have a body. This
means god is neither male nor female, which can make god more relatable. Jews also strongly believe
that god listens to every person, and is interested in every person. Attached to this belief is the belief
that god speaks to humans, sometimes in ways one would not expect.

practically every other religion. Judaism does not seek to convert people ... Show more content on

I shall begin with the points of congruence (of which there are few). Both segments are unorganized,
and do not have a centralized religious authority at their core. In fact, the term orthodox is an umbrella
that encompasses many different orthodox movements within Judaism. Liberal Judaism shares this
lack of monolithic movement or philosophy, with all congregation being independent. This creates a
diversity within these two particular sects that is richer than in other strands of Judaism. Found within
both Orthodox Judaism and Liberal Judaism is a disapproval of interreligious marriage. Orthodox
Judaism is outspoken and very explicitly in opposition to interreligious marriage. While it takes a
more low key approach to the question, Liberal Judaism shares this view. As an example, Liberal
rabbis in the United Kingdom do not conduct mixed marriages. The final case of similarity between
Liberal Judaism and Orthodox Judaism is their mutual celebration of religious holidays. Those of the
Liberal Jewish persuasion observe the same Jewish festivals and celebration as Orthodox Jews. While
Liberal Judaism does stray from Orthodox Judaism in regards to theology and some liturgy it is
important to recognize that they celebrate the same holidays and retain many of the same rituals as

  • 4. Modern Revival Of The Cornett The cornetto is a wooden wind instrument widely used throughout Europe from the 15th through the 17th centuries. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with the trumpet like instrument called the cornet. A hybrid between a woodwind (like the recorder) and a brass instrument (like the trumpet), it was a long and slender tube, curved to one side, and had open finger holes. Sound was produced by blowing into a cup shaped mouthpiece, like that of the trumpet. The combination of the mouthpiece and finger holes results in difficulties of intonation (pitch) and embouchure (mouth positions). Once mastered, it s extremely agile and has a range of dynamics and expressions that span between brassy trumpet sounds to incredibly sweet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the classification system of Hornbostel and Sachs, they are classified as trumpets with finger holes . They flourished mainly in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, but began a decline in popularity from the second half of the seventeenth; from 1700 onwards their use fell off dramatically, even though in some parts of Europe they persisted until the early 1800s. Their modern revival dates only from the second half of the twentieth century; performers such as Otto Steinkopf in Germany and Christopher Monk in England were among the first to play cornetts in public in the 1950s. Whereas most renaissance and baroque instruments have direct descendants or analogues (for example, modern trombones and sackbuts, modern and baroque violins, etc.), this is not true for cornetts; no mainstream modern instrument combines a lip vibrated mouthpiece with woodwind style fingering, and this lack of any kind of continuous performing tradition necessitated a re invention of both their playing technique and usage. Cornetts are usually considered to be difficult to play well, but performance standards have improved dramatically over the last fifty years or so. If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor white trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for their poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Is Carrie A Universal Fairy Tale Fairytales are typically interpreted as children s stories about magical and imaginary beings and lands, but that is often not the case. Many people do not realize that fairytales are very present in adult literature. These stories are often disguised, and contain topics that appeal to older generations such as matters of sex and death. The novel, Carrie by Stephen King, is a modern day fairytale that is perceived as a horror by most readers. Alex. E. Alexander exhibits the idea that Carrie is a universal fairytale in his critical essay, Carrie a Universal Fairytale . He exemplifies the characteristics of a fairytale and how Carrie mimics these trends. Novels such as Cinderella and Rapunzel, contain elements of fairy tales, that Carrie also possesses. Much like Cinderella, the protagonist, Carrie, goes through a rite of passage, maturation. This thought to bring forth her supernatural power, an element that is evident in Rapunzel. Also in Cinderella, is the presence of an antagonist adult figure, Carrie s natural mother, but Cinderella s stepmother. The commonalities between the novel and the stories, prove to the reader that Carrie, although morbid, is truly a fairytale. One characteristic of most fairytale s is rights of passage. In stories such as Cinderella, the protagonist lives through an event that marks an important stage in her life, marriage. For Carrie, this event was maturation. Alexander explains: Girls in their first period are placed in isolated huts where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was born in Guanajuato and educated at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts , in Mexico City. he studied painting in Europe between 1907 and 1921, becoming familiar with the innovative cubist forms of the French painter Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. In 1921 Riviera returned to Mexico and took a prominent part in revival of mural painting initiated by artists and sponsored by the government . Believing that art should serve the working people and be readily available to them , he concentrated on painting large frescoes, concerning the history and social problems of Mexico, on the walls ... I think what I like the most the murals that he painted I liked how he drew the Indian people their faces the scenery , the palace and his style. Riviera s murals are rich in archeological detail and painted in sharply outlined , linear style. Most of them have clear , three dimensional figures in a shallow space , although a deep spatial extension of landscape appears at the top of some works . Rivera also executed easel paintings and portraits and designed and built his Mexico City house , the Anahuacalli, which is now a museum housing the extensive collection of pre Columbian art that he left for Mexican people . I liked the water colors that Riviera used for the murals and the way he painted the pictures .I imagine take him a long time to draw the murals and paint them and drawing the faces . I have seen his murals in the walls in Mexico City and I really think is very hard to draw the murals and I also have seen in the museums alot of pictures that Riviera has drawn and I was really impressed with all his work. • 7. Giant Panda Affected by Road Construction The Qinling giant pandas are a slowly diminishing species. If left unprotected they will eventually become extinct. Fan, Li, Quan, Wu, Hu, and Yang investigated the effects of road construction on endangered Qinling giant pandas. Road construction can greatly affect the environment. According to the article, the harmful effects of roadway expansion extend to an area ten times broader than the roadway itself (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). It can cause harmful chemicals to contaminate water sources and food supplies. Subsequently, road construction isolates species from one another, and this in turn blocks gene flow..., which steeply [decreases] genetic diversity (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). On the other hand, road networks can isolate these species from their main water source and/or food supply. The giant panda s only food source is bamboo. Bamboo is a fickle plant that grows in certain habitats, under pristine conditions. Therefore, becoming isolated from bamboo forestry is detrimental to their survival. Researchers investigated the impact of road construction on giant panda s habitat and its carrying capacity in the Qinling Mountains (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). Methods: First, the scientists determined a study area that would serve as their representative sample of the population. The south slope of the Qinling Mountains was chosen because it contained a rich population of Qinling giant pandas, and the environmental conditions were optimal for bamboo growth. Secondly, ... In this report, I will be discussing operating systems, management of information, security and application software within a school environment and personal use. The context of this report will be inclusive of my internal assessments of which I have completed at school, and at home. Operating software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and software of a computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every action and task which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software for it to operate. Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise operating systems, of which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the computer s hard drive and is intangible. It includes the computer programs, folders, files and documents. The internet browser, like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome that allows you to visit online web pages and the operating system that the browser is running on is considered software, while computer hardware is any physical device used in or with your computer or machine. It is something you can physically touch. Examples of hardware include a mouse, monitor, keyboard and motherboards. The interfaces of applications, device management, processor management, memory management, user interface and storage management are the six main tasks controller by the operating system. • 9. The Battle Of Little Bighorn And Custer s Last Stand Custer s luck! The biggest Indian village on the continent! Supposedly, these were the last words recorded to have been uttered by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer before the infamous battle that would claim his life and the lives of hundreds of soldiers (Dippie 2). Nearly a century and a half later, this conflict is immersed in just as much controversy as it was the day it occurred. The Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer s Last Stand is perhaps more famous due to the difficulty of differentiating the myths versus the facts, rather than its actual historical significance in the 19th century. The different interpretations via historians, archaeologists, and Native Americans have contributed to the positive and negative versions of the battle that exist today. However, by understanding the basics, conflict, and research that surrounds the Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer s Last Stand, one can form their own opinion and better interpret the ways in which it is portrayed in media and throughout time by interested persons and descendent communities. In 1874, Custer led an army expedition to the Black Hills of present day South Dakota, a sacred property of the Lakota Sioux Nation, which was recognized under the Sioux Treaty of 1868. There, Custer and his men found a great amount of gold, and when President Grant and the US administration offered to buy the area, the Lakota Sioux nation refused to sell due to its holiness in their culture. Two years later, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, it will portray the four dimensions of the qualitative research: positivism, postpositivism, constructivism and objectivism, which are divided into epistemological and ontological. Secondly, it will describe the definition and basic concepts of the qualitative research; and thirdly, it will represent the five methods possible while conducting a qualitative research: phenomenology, ethnography, action research, grounded theory, and case study. It will elaborate each method s definition, distinctive features and data collection methods. In the end, it will present the differences between all above mentioned research methods. I. Dimensions I.1. Epistemological positions Positivism is an epistemological position that supports the implementation of the methods of the natural sciences to the study of social reality. According to Johnson and Duberley (2000) it is an approach to research that attempts to match as closely as possible to that in the natural sciences, by: a) relying on observations of the empirical world. b) Avoiding the use of subjective or metaphysical speculation. c) Attempting to be objective, ... However, there are a few ways to make your maintenance work in the garden quick and easy. 1. Get the pH of your soil by taking it to your local garden center or even your agriculture department of the local college or county co op. By formulating your soil to fit your needs, you will have the best looking garden around. Adding compost and even organic fertilizers are a great choice for maintaining your garden soil. If you can get the pH right, your plants should last for ages. 2. Keep like minded plants together based on needs. You should try to keep plants that need water in one particular area while plants with fewer water needs should be planted in another place. The same principle goes for sunshine as well. Some plants just need a little bit of sun while others need the shade. Keeping like minded plants together takes the guessing out of maintenance. 3. Choose raised bed containers for a controllable approach to gardening. The raised beds allow for easier weed control as well as the proper drainage, fertilizer, watering and more. Schuldt, Dominique Muller, and Norbert Schwarz claims that there is something called the halo effect, which is when someone or something has a good first impression and further evaluations are seen as good on unrelated topics. This effect also applies to food and is called the health halo effect. Examples of this are when companies put labels on foods like low fat or healthy, this leads to people thinking that the food product has fewer calories, estimating less calories, and leads to people ordering higher calorie foods. There is also discussion about whether ethical food claims like fair trade, organic, and locally produced might influence peoples perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first point in the article is that if there is the word organic or fair trade on the product it affects how healthy a person perceives the product to be. I agree with this point because I am one of those people, I am more likely to buy a product if it has organic or fair trade on the label because I assume it is healthier. When I see this on the label I think low fat or low calories. However, there are other factors that can influence the likely hood of a person choosing a product and thinking it is healthy, like emoticons. A person is more likely to avoid a product if there is a unhappy face emoticon on the label(Vasiljevic et al. 7). The second point is that people are more likely to think a product has higher calories or lower calories depending on whether a company treats its employees fairly or not. To me this point depends on how informed the person is about products and companies. Many people are not really informed about how companies treat their employees, especially when companies only allow the public to see what they want us to see. Primarily, the first issue that arises is the fact that a company that was founded in the United States dealing with military dictatorships in less advanced politically as well as economically countries than themselves is undoubtedly a form of exploitation, but also manipulation as citizens of the United States would not have been aware such a relationship existed between the United Fruit company and Latin American military dictatorships. In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976) argues that corporations with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control the markets in which they operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators, United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus) with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on its own. The state can act as a facilitator for the process of exploitation and profit over people. For example, the U.S Government bears responsibility for United Fruit s enterprises as it encouraged the government of Guatemala to adopt policies that would benefit American enterprise and the United Fruit Company (Dosal 2005, p.3). The narrator describes what his happening in the story, and we see every moment through their eyes. But alas, not all narrators can be trusted. Especially in a time like when The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was written. The narrator for this book is Nick Carraway, who grew up with his well off family in Chicago and then went to Yale. Throughout the book, he reveals attributes about him that make him seem like a reliable narrator, however he may very not be. With the first few paragraphs of the novel, Fitzgerald starts to build a narrator that readers feel they can really trust. For example, Nick begins the book quoting the advice he received from his father remember that all the people in this world haven t had all the advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald 1). Advantages Of Qualitative Method According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good knowledge of certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from qualitative methods comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus making it easy for the researcher to re frame, re analyze and check the responses at a later time. Locke, et al., (2000) as cited in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is to get the understanding about peoples idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is that it helps the researcher to fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a happening under investigation which other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997). ... More generally, the method can be said to provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain answers. Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent, thus creating a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such as what happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The method especially the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information necessary for a further research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton, ... Once the wolves were released two of the packs left the park and set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside the park.
