The Tricky Goblin And The Green Goo
CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
The Tricky Goblin and the Green Goo
I must have lost my footing somehow during my slip through the mirror because I fall out of it
and crashed with a with a painful thud on my bedroom floor. I looked up. My room was dark,
but a door was ajar in the kitchen, and light from a fixture stretched across the hallway. I
untangled my feet and rose. Then silently crept into the living room, hid behind the sofa, and
peeked over the top. Gordok sitting at the table eating some kind of green gunk and giggling
with a group of witches. I stood up and the look in his eyes made my blood run cold! You u u ...
he hissed his face even brighter green then the goo. One of the witches picked up a glop off the
plate and threw it at me. It landed on my forehead and dripped off my nose and onto my chin.
Eww ... what is this disgusting stuff? I asked wiping it off with the back of my sleeve. The goblin
bared his fangs and his beady eyes began to glow. Shut up and hand it over boy! I suppose you
want this? I said daggling the key out in front of me. The witches scramble to their feet. I ran
down the hall and into my room, slamming the door and locking it behind me. Gordok started to
pound on the door. The jig is up boy. Just give us what we want and I ll let your Parent s go. Why
am I running I thought as I pulled the wand out from beneath my vest. How do I know that you re
not just say that, I shouted back. Have I ever lied to you? he laughed and

Douglas Ivester Case Study Essay
Case Study
Coca Cola and CEO Douglas Ivester
And
BP and CEO Tony Hayward
1.If Douglas Ivester was so successful, for years, on the executive staff, why did he fail when he
was given the CEO/president position? Give an overall impression, broad stroke explanation of
why he failed. Ivester was a hardworking, diligent CEO, but he lost sight of the people side of
Coca Cola. In any business people are a very important aspect that needs to be nurtured because
without them the business is nothing but a name. Ivester s predecessor, Robert Goizueta, had a
management mantra this is a people relations business (Knoop, 11). Ivester seemed to forget that
mantra and took over the company selfishly.
2.List the key situational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From an emotional intelligence perspective I think Douglas Ivester had more failing then
successes. Ivester had a high I.Q. but lacked emotional intelligence (E.I.). He failed by not have
very good social skills. This was shown by how he dealt with the bottlers of Coca Cola. He
wanted power over them instead of building relationships. Also, he failed by not having empathy
for others. His lack of empathy was shown by the contamination scare in Belgium. At the time of
the scare many people were dealing with the past scare of Mad Cow Disease in 1994. The Coke
contamination made everyone s emotions heighten. Ivester should have responded more quickly to
the situation and with more empathy for the people who were experiencing it first hand. His one
success was motivation. Ivester was highly motivated and he seemed to push through all of his
setbacks although it seemed he didn t learn any lessons from his mistakes.
7.What type of leadership approach did Ivester take when he was part of Coke s executive staff?
During the year of being part of Coke s executive staff Ivester was more of manager instead of a
leader. Ivester was able to work up the corporate ladder at Coca Cola. He became a finance wizard
and for twenty years he was proving himself to the company. He was very competitive at what he
did and he was a genius at managing operations.
8.What type of leadership approach did he take once he became CEO? Ivester s

My Learning Disability
If I was invited to an interview for a new job, I would choose not to disclose my learning
disability to the interviewer. Despite the fact that there are many upsides to disclosure, I personally
feel as though the cons outweigh the pros. Some of the cons include embarrassment, loss of
independence, and overall discrimination you may face from employers. First of all, sharing that
you have a learning disabilitycan be very nerve wracking or even embarrassing for some. People
aren t always accepting, and they may see you as someone who you re truly not. This ties into the
second reason why I wouldn t disclose my learning disability in a job interview: loss of
independence. When people find out that you have a learning disability, sometimes they

Great Wall Of China Dbq Essay
Did you know before the Qin and Han built the Great Wall, the chinese had to build walls around
individual cities to protect them. The Great wall of China was built by the Shang and Han
Dynasties of ancient china to protect the nation from the Xiongnu. The great wall of china: did the
benefit outweigh the cost? The construction of the wall was worth the cost because, he security it
provides increased trade and in turn, increased openness to new ideas transferred along the silk
road. To begin, the wall provided more security for China. In other words, the wall was used as a
shield. The wall was about 4,000 miles long acting as a barrier against the Xiongnu to the north
(Doc.A). It appears that the wall was built so the sides of the wall would... Show more content on

To clarify, trade increased due to the traders feeling safer. The silk road ran along the great wall
so the silk road was protected (Doc.A). There are three major trading centers protected by the
wall. The exports and imports of Han China were great (Doc.D). The trade between nations
created peace that the silk road needed to stay safe. The wall increased trade due to traders
feeling safer. Another benefit of the wall was China s openness to new ideas. In other words, the
silk road carried new ideas to China. The silk road integrated new religions and types of music
(Doc.D). None of the exports of Han China included religion or music. Emperor Wudi did lots t
keep the merchants and caravans safe (Doc.D). The emperor wouldn t have done this if he wasn
t open to new cultures. China s new openness to new ideas is thanks to the wall. It is clear that
the wall was worth the cost because, the security it provided increased trade and openness to
new ideas. The wall served as a shield against the Xiongnu. The silk road was successful due to
the protection the great wall provided. The silk road also brought along more ideas as well as
openness to them. In conclusion the building of the wall was worth the cost due to its

Justice and Love in Hugo s Les MisГ©rables
The nineteenth century was an era distinguished by invention, progress, and social change.
Countries were busy healing from previous wars while fighting ongoing battles at the same time.
Nationalism and militarism became extremely evident around the world as advances in science and
exploration propelled new discoveries. Significant movements, such as Romanticism and the
Industrial Revolution, stemmed in Europe and swept the masses, spreading widely across nations.
The rapid growth of the British Empire, alongside the calamitous fall of the French Empire, marked
the beginning of the eventful nineteenth century. Years after the French Revolution, the French
Empire was defeated in the Napoleonic wars, resulting in a broken union full of... Show more

Under the Declaration of Rights, the foreman s action of discriminating Valjean would be legally
protected because distinction based on virtue is permitted. However, the Declaration completely
disregards the fact that Valjean was imprisoned for something he did in a hopeless situation. The
society turned innocent people into hardened criminals because of their status. In Les MisГ©rables,
Hugo focuses on society s mistreatment of Valjean in order to show how society in nineteenth
century France was defective because it took no notice of the morality of inevitable crime. By
incorporating an accurate historical figure into his novel, Hugo highlights the idea that even in
miserable conditions, life can be changed through perseverance and effort. In Les MisГ©rables,
Jean Valjeanescapes his dark criminal past and uses his knowledge of industry to start a successful
factory. Years later, he becomes the mayor and is rumored to have immense sums deposited with
Laffitte, with the special condition that they were always at his immediate command (Hugo 55).
Hugo places Jacques Laffitte, a real banker from French history, into his novel to interact with the
transformed Valjean. Laffitte, a successful banker and politician, rose

John Grierson Documentary Techniques
A documentary is the artistic representation of actuality as said by John Grierson. A documentary
is not real life, but only a representation of the real world. There are two different types of
documentaries; objective and subjective. Objective documentaries normally refer to impartial,
based on observed facts and is unbiased. Whilst subjective documentaries refer to a personal
interpretation of facts or events that is not impartial. This documentary on high school relationships
is subjective as we have our own opinion which is that nobody should judge other people on their
opinions for these romantic relationships. Our group chose the topic of High School Relationships
as it is a common discussion throughout our grade. Many people converse... Show more content on

Bowling for Columbine expressed a lot of emotion in some of the audience, as they were agreeing
with the point of view, and were connecting on an emotional level. The humor added in Bowling
for Columbine was a very smart idea, as it was placed in a good spot, not too shortly after the
camera footage but also not too much afterwards so that the audience would not be switching
moods multiple time. Whilst, when watching Spellbound a lot of the audience got bored, and were
distracted easily, they were not very focused on the topic.Until it was nearing the end, the
competition was getting close to announcing the winner, the anticipation was spiking and the
suspense was great. The technique which Spellbound used, using music to attract the audience

Whole Milk Vs Skim Milk
Two Products When deciding between whole milk and skim milk, most people including
myself, base their choices on differences in taste, cost, and nutritional value. Personally I prefer
whole milk over skim milk because whole milk has more nutritional value and tastes better. I will
show a number of differences and similarities in these products. First I will talk about the
information on whole milk. When we look to the characteristic of taste, we see that whole milk is
superior. We see that many people prefer to have lots of fatty flavors in their diets, and the addition
of whole milk into their diet would allow them to get the taste they love and still get a lot of
nutrients. When we look to the characteristic of cost, the consumer should... Show more content on

To buy skim milk would be a horrible thing to do just based on taste alone. When we look to the
past, we see that skim milk is made of, used to be industrial waste. To make the milk its
trademark white color, companies add powdered milk solids into the milk to make it look white
instead of the blue it usually looks like. When we look at cost, the consumer will see that skim
milk will win here. The reason skim milk is cheaper is because it has less cream, so it costs less.
When we look to the characteristic of nutritional value, skim milk is lacking. Created from the
industrial waste of whole milk, skim milk doesn t have as much nutritional value as whole milk
does. Often times people think that drinking skim milk lowers calorie consumption, but that is
false because the consumer gets less fat in the skim milk, and the consumer feels less satisfied.
When the consumer drinks skim milk he or she often eats lots of junk food instead of being
satisfied with just milk. According to healthland.time.com, skim milk has almost no nutritional
value. It has no Vitamin K and the other vitamins need fat to be absorbed into the body, which
skim milk doesn t offer. Also the same website stated that drinking skim milk can increase the
likelihood of heart disease. So really drinking skim milk is a net harm, not a net gain. Also when
the cows that are used to make skim milk are milked, they are often times sick. The FDA allows
up to 750 million pus cells per liter of milk, which the consumer really doesn t want to be drinking.
So, I hope the consumer will drink whole milk over

Benefits And Rewards For Employee Benefits
Employee benefits are an essential component of an organization s total rewards strategy.
Today companies design benefits packages that are unique and rewarding in order to attract and
retain talented workers. In fact, employee benefits have evolved significantly over the years.
Employee benefits are no longer just the basics, such as healthcare and retirement plans.
Organizations are now expanding their benefits and rewards offerings to include creative
perquisites, such as onsite childcare, flexible work schedules, and employee game rooms.
Employers understand that to gain a competitive advantage in the war for talent, they must create
new and improved rewards for their employees. This paper will examine the innovative benefits and

Innovative benefits are the solution to meet employee demands. Innovative benefits are any
creative reward designed to provide employees with a special privilege, financial value, and/or
personal advantage. Innovative benefits include many employee perquisites, such as onsite
childcare, paid time off, employer matched charitable donations, discounted gym memberships, and
tuition assistance. Employees are attracted to organizations that create innovative benefits
packages. Organizations are creating and adopting innovative benefits in order to improve their
overall compensation strategies. Compensation strategy defines how an organization plans to
reward its employees for their time and efforts. An effective compensation strategy enhances (1)
talent management, (2) supports an organization s business objectives, and (3) provides
organizations with a return on their investment. Therefore, in order for innovative benefits to
enhance the competitiveness of an organization s overall compensation strategy, the benefits must
align with these three goals. First, innovative benefits plans can give organizations a competitive
advantage in recruiting, developing, and retaining talented workers. The war for talent in the
workforce is becoming more competitive. According to researcher Tapomoy Deb (2005) the

Rebecca Bloomwood Research Paper
Throughout this journal, one can see that Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as outgoing
and ecstatic. Initially, Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as outgoing for a diversified
amount of explanations. First of all, she went on a trip with her boyfriend and had to go a few
days without clothes. She has decided to make outfits on the go. Some people may believe that
she is outgoing because this is not easy to pull off. In addition, Rebecca is not afraid to take
risks. She went on a trip with Luke in a days notice. Rebecca may feel like she is being a good
girlfriend by going on trips with her boyfriend in a short notice and that s why she is so outgoing.
In the text it states, there re a bit expensive but then, everyone knows you should never skimp on
shoes, because you ll hurt your feet (Kinsella 16).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly, when Rebecca was at the wedding she told everyone that Luke was there when he was
really not. This shows she is creative and can come up with any excuse on the spot. Some people
may think she is lying due to her stories she makes up as well as some people may believe she is
innovated. She interacts with people well and can start a conversation with any person. She also
puts herself out there like talking to people she does not know at the wedding. On the other
hand, Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as ecstatic for an assorted number of reasons.
The first reason is she came up with a motto to go by. In the book it states, My new motto is buy
only what you need. I know, it sounds almost too simple but it really does work. Before each
purchase, I ask myself one question: do I need this? And only if the answer is yes do I make the
purchase. Its all just a matter of self discipline . This quote shows that she gives herself a goal in
her shopping problem to stop spend so much. People can tell she sets good goals on spending

Symptoms And Diagnosis Of Sepsis
With sepsis becoming a growing concern with each passing day, we must develop new ways to
combat it aggressively. With EMS becoming a more advanced, educated, and integral member of
the health care team; there must be an inclusion of them into the early and advanced treatment of
sepsis. According to a research team in the Netherlands 3.3 out of every 100 patients encountered
by EMS in the United States have severe sepsisdiagnoses, compared to only 2.3 per 100 for
myocardial infarction and 2.2 per 100 for stroke (Van der Wekken et al., 2016). This is massive
considering it is not considered a time critical diagnosis like myocardial infarction and stroke
already are. The Revised Sepsis Syndrome Classification and Prehospital Sepsis Alert Score are the
potential solution to these issues and look to increase rapid recognition, advanced treatment, and
decrease mortality from this destructive and aggressive pathological process.
Research Proposal: Prehospital Sepsis Score and Alert Protocol For Early Detection and Treatment

Sepsis has become the newest major threat to health in not only the United States, but worldwide.

inappropriate and incomplete treatment, stronger, more resistant, and more dangerous superbugs
have begun to emerge. An aging population with a multitude of comorbidities, and the rise in

Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art
Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung
Galaxy Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The
year was 2002, I was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit
that day was likely a black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered
vans. The music blasted through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck.
The song Pieces Mended by The Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated
in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade.
I remember thinking that the entire situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy
was going to help me. The only ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine
flavored dutch, and my bed. The song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day,
because honestly, what did they know about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto
for the next few years (The Used, 2002). Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and
adolescence are difficult to remember, but the emotions that arise in association with being fifteen
are difficult to forget. Using music and movement made it easier to embody a younger version of
myself for the Adolescent Mandala assignment. Embodiment meant going back to that song that

There are a few key aspects of dairy farming that need to be monitored carefully or result in
unwanted outcomes. This includes the voltage on the fences around the farm, the temperature of the
milk that is in the vat and the activity of the water pump. A constant monitoring system of these
three important farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application
will be designed to incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the
required voltage on them this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be
difficult to monitor as currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester.
The milk temperature is required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk
company to ensure it is safe for human consumption. This is done through using chiller machines
as if the milk does not reach this temperature in time the entire vat full of milk must be disposed of
which causes a loss of income for the

Racial Tensions In Court Cases
Racial tensions are at an all time high. Whites and minorities are given different sentencing for the
same kind of crime, with the lenient sentences going to Whites. African Americans are being killed
by police officers, and the public are no longer willing to just sit back and do nothing. People are
starting to take matters into their own hands. Our country is becoming divided and dangerous.

The Legacy Of Douglass Macarthur
Douglass MacArthur was born in 1880 at the Little Rock Barracks in Arkansas to his father
Arthur MacArthur and his Mother Mary Pinkney Hardy MacArthur. His father Arthur
MacArthur was a United States Army captain. Being born in a Barracks, Douglas MacArthur
said that it was here I learned to ride and shoot even before I could read or write indeed, almost

The Pathophysiology Of Muscles
The word muscle has its origins in the Latin word musculus which means little mouse . The
terminology became popular as the movement of certain muscles, most notably biceps, was thought
to be reminiscent of a mouse moving beneath a rug. Another explanation is that at the anatomical
level, some muscles look like mice. This holds true especially for muscles with long, thin tendons
that resemble a mouse s tail.
Muscles are specialized contractile tissues responsible for motility, a feature that is a distinguishing
characteristic between the plant and animal kingdoms; and are responsible for most physiological
processes in higher animals like blood circulation, contractions of the heart, involuntary peristaltic
movements of the gut, respiration, voluntary body movements, maintenance of posture, gait and
facial expressions. How a single tissue performs such varied functions can be attributed to the
distinct mechanical, contractile, structural and electrophysiological properties that are acquired by
each muscle type during the course of development. The two broad classes of muscle fibres are
striated (cardiac and skeletal) and non striated (smooth) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each myofiber is in turn composed of hundreds of contractile organelles called myofibrils that run
through the length of the myofiber. These are rod like structures made up of protein, and are

Elasticity of Demand
The purpose of this essay is to define elasticity of demand, cross price elasticity, income
elasticity, and explain the elastic coefficients for each. I will explain the contrast of and
significance of difference between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be
more or less elastic for availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and
consumer s time horizon, and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to
business decision making that result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic
demand and perfectly inelastic demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of
demand, also known as price demand elasticity, is defined as... Show more content on

The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A
formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in
quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in
quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the
demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the
demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make
adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income
elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between
cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of
change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures
changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and
elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a
change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their
price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their
profits. Cross price

Literature Review On Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is a common chronic condition, occurring in approximately three million people
in the United States (American College of Cardiology, 2015). It can lead to serious complications
such as blood clots, stroke, or heart failure (American College of Cardiology, 2015). Therefore,
healthcare providers must understand how to manage new onset and chronic atrial fibrillation.
Patients may present to the emergency department with atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular
response in both new onset and chronic cases. There are different choices of treatment for atrial
fibrillation with rapid ventricular response. For instance, healthcare providers can choose a rate
controlling medication such as metoprolol or diltiazem. Or they ... Show more content on

The main limitation of this study was the design. Researchers were unable to randomize the groups.
Furthermore, they were unable to detect subgroups (Hines et. al., 2016). They didn t get to directly

A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
The Production Code attempted to censor sex and violence in film of the 1930 s and 40 s. Instead
of impairing, it encouraged directors to use artistic ideas and integrity to surpass the viewers
expectations actively involving them in the film despite Hollywood s censorship. Howard Hawks
is one such director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. His screen
adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel The Big Sleep portrays the same amount of sexuality
and violence apparent in the written word, using a distinctly subtle style, which develops broader
themes. Comparisons with the extremely dull 70 s remake by Michael Winner further suggest the

Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a
producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to
the screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to
the Michael Winner version.
Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood
s nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her
birthday suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes.
The problem does not lay in the vulgarity of this blatant flamboyance of flesh; however, it adheres
to the common false mystique that exhibitionism equals sex appeal.
Another fault in Michael Winners remake is its strict adherence to the plot of the novel. The
relationship between Vivian and Marlowe in the movie is non existent. It seems as though Robert
Mitchum, playing Marlowe, has more fun flirting with Agnes, played by Joan Collins, in Geiger s
bookstore than with the snotty, senior Sternwood sister. Leaving Eddie Mars gambling casino,
Marlowe kisses Vivian in an attempt to find out, what Eddie Mars has on her. However, Vivian is
not pleased with Marlowe s prodding and shrieks, so that s the way it is you rotten bastard. As

Persuasive Ethical Issues
Time is an element of nature that while it may seem limitless, it is proven to be limited. Time in
perspective of the world and existence is said to be unyielding while time in perspective of humans
has an indefinite end of some odd decades. Time cannot be extended, taken away, or stopped as it is
not able to be manipulated by human means. The delicate balance of time runs on a continuous
cycle that seeks to have no end. What if, metaphorically speaking, time could be extended? Through
scientific innovation, life extensiontherapies and medications are in the making to help extend the
lifespan of humans from 70 90 years old to 100 120 years old. Although this theory may seem
glamorous, it does raise some ethical issues as to whether... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Extra time can be great if the human body s aging process could be spread out over 120 years
like it is over 80. If aging were spread out, then quality of life might not be so bad. Martien
Pjinenburg and Carlo Leget made the statement that, Quality of time outweighs quantity of time.
The argument of quality over quantity can be brought up into many issues, but the most
prominent being about life. As insinuated in the beginning, if the quality of a long life is poor,
then the subject may be more apt to contemplate suicide as a means to escape constant worldly
torture. If quality of life is positive, the subject would be more apt to take the longer life given as
a blessing instead of a curse. The extension of human life is an ethical issue that depends on the
person. The issue of poor life quality such as physical decrepitude will be brought out more in the
older generations. Selfish family members that want to prolong a possible family member s life
through this method is really just inhibiting the family member if their current condition is poor.
Good intentions can be misguided in instances where one person doesn t want another dying so
they preserve them just so they don t have to go through the pain and heartache. In Listening to
Public Concerns About Human Life Extension, it is stated by the authors that the most commonly

The Value Of Liberal Education
Value of Liberal Education in Today s Society There are many different things that we value.
Someone СЂrefers business as it sees its success, someone is trying to succeed in СЂolitics. Each

considered as a very imСЂortant СЂart of our lives it is education. Liberal education is one of the
basic values of modern society and it СЂlays a very imСЂortant role in our lives. Liberal education
creates lots of ways to go ahead in the future. It makes us strong mentally, socially and
intellectually by increasing our knowledge level, technical skills and good СЂosition in the job. All
successful careers require critical thinking, teamwork, sensitivity to cultural, economic and societal
differences and СЂolitical СЂersСЂectives. A liberal artseducation СЂrovides this grounding. So,
liberal education is an imСЂortant tool that is aСЂСЂlied in the contemСЂorary world to succeed,

is highly valued. I think СЂrogress is mainly deСЂendent on highly educated СЂeoСЂle. A

Approaches to Health
INTRODUCTION
This report will be investigating the various sociological perspectives on health as well as the
models and definitions of health and ill health. These topics will assist in the understanding of how
different people and different cultures react to ill health.
1.1 CONTRASTING SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON HEALTH
In modern society there is a general consensus that good health is something that everyone wants to
experience and that each individual knows what this involves. Because there are so many different
definitions of health and ill health it can become a very complicated concept. Walsh (2011) states
that In sociological terms health and illness are contested concepts. This means that the general
meaning of these words should not be taken for granted.
Negative Definition of Health
The negative model is based on the idea that health is the opposite of disease. The definition
believes that disease is a biological state where the individual is afflicted by a physical condition
or illness (Walsh, 2011: 325). It views the body as a machine that may malfunction at times,
because for some reason or another, its parts have stopped working. The damage to these
machine parts is the disease. It a health care professional s role to identify these fault and repair
them. This is based on medical intervention via drugs or surgery. This can be a very negative
outlook on health because some conditions could be caused by social factors, so a physical

Media and technology can be one type of channel ortoolbox to enhance the learning environment,
but I believe that they are not the only solution for achieving our educational goals. McLuhan
(1964) proposed the idea that medium is the message and the four tiered questions to evaluate
new technology when we think about applying it: what does it extend? ; what does it make
obsolete? ; what is retrieved? and what does the technology revert into if it is over extended? . I
believe that if we seriously rethink those questions before we determine what kind of technology
we will use to improveour teaching, it will lead us to a more neutral decision.

Innovation Report for Instant Coffee

People has gradually become so used to drinking instant coffee that some even did not know what

Benjamin Franklin created thirteen virtues that he personally followed that aided his quest for

Gatsby s practice of elocution and ability to schedule his business is one example of these
specific virtues. Jay Gatsby often seems to be reminded of his past, but his goal is not to even

that one should use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak
accordingly (Franklin). Gatsby achieves this virtue whenever he is in the company of Daisy
Buchanan, his love interest of many years. There is a certain irony to their relationship as Daisy

Arrowsmith Sparknotes
Arrowsmith is a classic American novel written by Sinclair
Lewis. Lewis wrote this book in the early 1900 s as a current outlook on the world of science in
that time. The main theme it focuses on is commercialism and its effect on science. During this
time period there were many advances in the field of medicine; everyone was racing to find the
cure to deadly diseases and then patent it and profit off it. Helping humanity was more of a business
than a service to the human race as doctors and institutes became more and more capitalistic. Like a
business trying to maximize its profit, many doctors and scientists cut corners and guessed at many
things so they could get their products or methods on the market as fast as possible. However, ...

The Battle Between Grendel And Beowulf
Carl Van Clausewitz once said, Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior. In a
culture where being a warrior is a very integral part of everyday lives, having courage is a key
component of social survival. To have courage means to be able to defend a kingdom by every
means possible. It means protecting and ascertaining the wellbeing of the people within one s own
kingdom. And above all, courage means remaining loyal to one s king, regardless of the
circumstance. This is the warriorculture that Beowulfin Beowulf was a part of successfully as a
thane, and the same warrior culture that leads the narrator in The Wanderer to lament past
memories. In Beowulf, the fight between Grendeland Beowulf was certainly a nail biter. In this
fight, however, Beowulf shows his courage by doing his absolute best at defending the kingdom
by taking on this gruesome monster. Grendel was wreaking havoc on the kingdom to no end. He
was killing many and terrorizing the citizens greatly. When Beowulf heard of this, as a
courageous thane, he stepped in to try to stop this and protect the people. Hygelac s kinsman kept
[Grendel] helplessly locked in a handgrip. As long as either lived, he was hateful to the other. The
monster s whole body was in pain; a tremendous wound appeared on his shoulder. Sinews split and
the bone lappings burst. Beowulf was granted the glory of winning; Grendel was driven under the

Lancelot As A Hero In King Arthur And His Knight
Within any story, the hero must contain three integral qualities: he or she must be the apparent
protagonist of the novel, he or she must commit oneself to noble qualities and doings without
exception, and he or she must be figuratively or literally invisible.
In King Arthur His Knights, the three main contenders to be the hero of the story are Lancelot, King
Arthur, and Galahad. However, each has a fatal flaw that annuls their ability to become the hero,
for none of them adhere to all three qualities of a hero.
Lancelot has the most plausible chance to be the hero of the story. He exhibits two of the three
qualities needed to be the hero. He seems to be the protagonist because his existence is necessary
for the progression of the story, and he is literally invincible. He can easily destroy any foe that
blocks him from success from bouts with an invisible knight to bouts with up to 15 knights at
once (). Lancelot apparently exhibits the strong qualities of a knight, so why is he not the hero of
the story? He does not fit the heroic quality of committing himself to nobility. The notable example
of this lack of quality is his affair with Guinevere. In The Knight of the Cart Lancelot heroically
rides to save Guinevere, but later that night sleeps with her while committing treason against King
Arthur (). Some may excuse his actions with the belief that he is in love with Guinevere and
Guinevere with him. However, love does not always have to express with sex and thus

Scientists are sure that it exists because of the observable gravitational effect that it exhibits on
galaxy clusters and galaxies.
One way to explain how space acquires energy comes from the Quantum Theory of Matter.
According to this theory; the empty space is really full of temporary particles that evolve
continuously until they disappear. For instance, a theory in standard physics states that stars at
the edges of a spiraled galaxy should move much slower than those near the center of the galaxy,
where the galaxy s visible matter is more concentrated. But, observations show that stars tend to
orbit at somewhat of an equal speed, no matter where they are positioned in the galaxy. This
puzzling theory makes sense if one assumes that the stars at the borders of galaxies are affected
by the gravitational pull of an unseen mass dark matter in a halo around the galaxy. Another
explanation for dark energy is that it is a new kind of dynamical energy fluid or field that fills all
of space but something whose effect on the expansion of the Universe is the opposite of that of
matter and normal energy.
Some dark matter possibilities could still be probable. If it was tied up in brown dwarfs or in
small chunks of heavy element, they could still be made up of baryonic matter. These possibilities
are known as massive compact halo objects, or MACHOs . The more common view is that dark
matter is not baryonic at all, but that it is

morals, and beliefs they hold shape their identity. Though an event like the siege may
temporarily disrupt an individual, causing them to stray from their path and for a period of
time, make decisions they would not usually make, there will always be hope. Despite the
conflicts that the siege brings, the characters all maintain a shred of hope and with it a shred
their personality before the siege, and after they fully regain hope, symbolized by the music of
the Cellist, they all revert back to the people they once were. The deviations in behavior, beliefs,

He dies in pain and transforms into a flower. Kusama s art installation relates to this myth as she
projects the audience and herself as Narcissus(es). With these convex mirror globes, Kusama
attempts to reveal the self love each person has for themselves. By revisiting the myth of
Narcissus and placing it in another mode of genre while challenging common art conventions,
Kusama attempts to display the sociological, psychological, and identity issues of her time. A
display of shimmering balls in water or field of grass does not seem to echo the Narcissus myth,
and yet Kusama s work is paratextual and hypertextual. Paratextuality is a term used by French
literary theorist Gerard Genette and is defined in Graham Allen s Intertextuality as all the elements
which stand on the threshold of a text (Allen 223). Kusama uses peritexts such as titles and labels
to draw the attention to Narcissus (Allen 100). When Kusama displayed her art, she placed two

Some Like It Hot Film Analysis
In Some Like It Hot, directed by Billy Wilder in 1959, the movie was chosen to be filmed in
black and white because when Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon were filmed in color they looked
ghoulish in their makeup. The cross dressing characters of Jo/Josephine and Jerry/Daphne choose

they got mixed up with. The movie focuses on non conventional forms of love and companionship

Differently, in color films, completely different and more complex techniques are required in
order to achieve complete artistic control. Historically, in order to film movies in color, directors
and camera workers had to abandon the grayscale craft which they had been working with for

Why Spanking Is Wrong
Sitting back and watching the destruction of our youth is very disconcerting. We need to take back
our youth from the streets, clubs, and gangs. There has been a sort of disconnect with the way
youths are being raised because, parents can no longer spank their kids when they do wrong.
Society has decided that spankingwas too harsh and that parents needed to find other ways to
discipline their children. Spanking is a type of corporal punishmentthat is commonly used to
discipline children. Without producing any physical injury, the parent will normally strike the child
s bottom with their open hand, belt, or a switch (which is normally a tiny off a tree) for
inappropriate behavior.

If a child gets a spanking he will view it as violence to get what he wants but thinks the parents
condones violence because he received a spanking. When that is not the case, most children that
receives a spanking knows what they did was wrong and they should not do those things again.
Spanking is not a form of violence but a form of discipline that helps parents keep their children
in line. Those parents that believes in spanking, most comes from a Christian background. It is
widely believed the God commands them to spank for the wrongdoing. The Christians knows in
the Bible it says in Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare
for his crying . So, therefore they have no problems spanking the children for their misdeeds. The
parents who does not believe in spanking, thinks that other forms of punishment such as time out is
effective. Contrary to popular believe, that may work for some but not all. There has to be a
middle ground somewhere. Some parents thinks that giving a child stern talk will also help. There

Eating Disorders And Gymnastics Essay
Eating Disorders And Gymnastics
Eating disorders are especially common among athletes because the pressure of the sport
environment frequently precipitates the onset of these problems. In this population, certain
compulsive behaviors such as excessive exercise and restricted eating patterns are seen as
acceptable, and pathogenic methods of weight control are often introduced. In addition, concern
about body size and shape is increased because of the social influence for thinness [from coaches
and peers], anxiety about athletic performance, and negative self appraisal of athletic achievement
(Williamson et al. 1995). Finally, the competitive nature of sports reinforces characteristics such as
perfectionism, high achievement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some male athletes do use extreme methods for losing weight, but an important difference exists
between these and the self starvation strategies of anorexics. For instance, a wrestler s perception
of his body is not distorted and when he is not competing, he can regain the weight with ease.
Do female gymnasts suffer an even greater risk?
As demonstrated by such famous gymnasts as Kathy Johnson and Nadia Comaneci who have
struggled with eating disorders themselves, women s gymnastics seems designed for the disease (
Dying for a medal 1994). In the 1992 NCAA survey, 51% of the gymnastics programs that
responded reported this illness among its team members, a far greater percentage than in any other
sport ( Dying to win 1994). Unfortunately, the real number is probably even higher.
Why might gymnasts be more vulnerable to eating disorders?
Anorexia often strikes young women who try to evade the natural process of becoming adults and
who use excessive measures to maintain a thin and girlish figure the exact description of what today
s female gymnast must accomplish to stay competitive at its highest levels. For these athletes, the
onset of womenhood is their biggest fear because it means developing hips or breasts that might
hinder their performance. Thus, starving themselves offers the most convenient solution to their
problem. In addition, many of these girls begin training specifically for this sport since the time they

Malnutrition And Human Development
In 1990 the very important first Human Development Reported a new proposal for promoting
human development. Human development is developing the richness of human life. Human
development focuses on developing people s lives rather than assuming the economical growth.
Opportunities about human development is all about giving individuals more independence to live
their lives to their full potential. For instance, teaching a young man would help build his skills,
but there would be no sense in doing that if he is denied access of getting a job opportunity.
Human development is about having more choices and more opportunities . The process is to help
develop a good environment for people and their families and to help develop them to their full
potential.
Malnutrition contributes to undernutrition and overnutrition and is also a deficiency of nutrition.
Agents that cause malnutrition are poor diet and repeated infections which is particularly in
underprivileged populations. Inadequate diet and disease are linked in to your common guideline
living and environmental conditions, and are linked in with meeting the primary needs such as
housing, food, and health care. Malnutrition is a health outcome as well as a risk factor for
diseases. There are over two billion individuals in the world that suffer from many forms of
malnutrition. Malnutrition is an basic cause of death of over 2.5 million children each year.

The Importance Of Asian Art
Art is a way for the Asian artist to express their feelings with the viewers. The Asian culture uses art

Hokusai shows a large wave heading towards two boats. The artist leaves the art frozen, allowing
the viewer to depict their own ending to the scenario. Art in the Asian American culture incorporates

artistry in China begins to evolve once the Han reclaim the throne. With the start of the Ming

Because squared units are not intuitive, we square root the variance, known as the standard
deviation.
Diversification and Variance Reduction
When uncertain numbers are averaged together, the distribution of the average goes up in the
middle and down on the ends, becoming more centralized. This centralizing of the distribution is
the primary manifestation of diversification.
The width or narrowness of a distribution defines the range of uncertainty of the number. The wider
the distribution, the greater the variance, standard deviation and uncertainty.
The Central Limit Theorem
If enough independent samples of almost any distribution are averaged together, then the resulting
distribution will be normal .
The Normal Distribution
The normal distribution is an idealization of the result of averaging a large number of identical,
independent random variables. They are centered at their mean or average. Their width is measured
by the standard deviation, or the square root of the variance.

Poaching And Robin Hood
INTRODUCTION
We, the people of the world, do many things for the sake of our survival. Things that we are very
proud of and things that we are not. People have needs and they do or invent things based off of
their needs. How far they are willing to go is the million dollar question. Poaching has been
going on since the world began, but it did not become a problem and become illegal until the
Late Middle Ages. In the times where the lower class were peasants and the upper class had
control of pretty much everything. Robin Hood was of the first well known poachers during this
time period. His reasoning, like the reasoning like many other that poach, Hood was in desperate
need of money and food for his family. With the help of his crew, Hood... Show more content on

Although, in reality the number of people that actually know why poaching is done is very low.
Poaching, by definition, is the illegal act of killing, capturing, or removing mammals, birds, fish,
reptiles, insects, or plants from their natural habitats. (Greene, 1994, p.11). Yes. poaching is
illegal but there is a reason to why people feel the need to do these types of things. One of the first
reasons to why started poaching in the beginning was the fear of starvation. This reasoning was
often said to cause the most motivation for people to poach. People in countries where poaching is
most common, like Zimbabwe and Kanye, the economy is not doing well enough for people to
have enough money to support their families. By hunting for large game, poachers use the meat to
feed their families and allow them to keeping living. The desperation that people that poach must
have to do this is unimaginable, but just like the average person in any country they will do what
they have to to keep their family ahead.
Another reason why poachers do what they do is for the huge income that they gain from it.
Wanting to make a respectful income is not being greedy. Just like any other job, poachers do
what is necessary to make money. Poachers will sell parts of animals or animals all together. Most
poachers only receive 5 10% of the money that they make selling the animal. Based off of the job
that they do that is very little

Hemoglobin A1c Test Essay
The hemoglobin A1C test measures a person s average blood sugar over the course of two or
three months. It is very important for women who are pregnant to get their hemoglobin A1C
checked on a regular basis. Below is a list of reasons pregnant women should get their A1C levels
checked:
Gestational Diabetes Is Common
A form of diabetes that develops during gestation, or pregnancy, is known as gestational diabetes. It
affects anywhere from 4.2 to 9.6 percent of pregnant women. During pregnancy, the placenta
produces high levels of hormones. These hormones can impair the function of insulin, which leads
to elevated blood sugar.
Gestational diabetes can lead to complications. However, if it is detected early, then a woman can
have a normal, healthy pregnancy. A hemoglobin A1C test can detect gestational diabetes.... Show

These miscarriages typically occur during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Studies have shown
that women who have high A1C Levels are at a greater risk for having a miscarriage. Fortunately,
women who get their blood sugar under control are less likely to have a miscarriage in the future.
More Accurate Than Home Glucose Monitoring
Many women check their blood glucose level at home. While home monitoring is beneficial, a
A1C test is more accurate. Blood sugar levels can fluctuate throughout the day, so high blood sugar
can be missed. Because the A1C test measures long term blood sugar control, it is better for
diagnosing gestational diabetes.
See How Well A Person Is Responding To Treatment
Diet and exercise can lower blood sugar in women who have gestational diabetes. However, diet
and exercise may not be enough. In fact, it is estimated that 10 to 20 percent of pregnant women
with gestational diabetes need medication. Oral drugs can be used to lower blood sugar. Doctors
may also recommend

Poverty Is A Global Issue
Every city has poverty. Travel around the world, I bet it wouldn t be difficult to find a city that
doesn t have an impoverished community. Poverty is a global issue, but most importantly it s a
local issue to me in the city that I live in. Among the 10 largest cities in America, Chicago has the
third highest povertyrate with 40 60% of our residents living under the poverty level. People who
live in poverty are given less opportunities, resources and tools than people who live in the
middle or upper class. Poverty is not a pleasant subject, however, poverty is real. In the daily lives
of the poor, poverty becomes a network of disadvantages. The end result is that there is a lack of
access to education, employment, health care, affordable housing, proper sanitation and good
nutrition among many generations of the poor (End Poverty). Of the issues associated with
poverty, the lack of access to an education stands out to me the most. In Chicago, education is
greatly valued and is vital for all development and growth achievements in people. Education is
the process in which people gain knowledge, help form and shape attitudes and opinions, and
allow people to gain a set of skills that they can further use in areas outside of a school
environment. However, education systems in Chicago are taking a huge deficit due to the effects
of poverty. The effects of poverty are already big factors toward the concern about Chicago, and
why it is portrayed as negatively as it is, but those

The Differences Of The Roman Empire And The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire was a vast powerful empire dating from 330 1453. The capital was
Constantinople (modern day Istanbul), first known as Byzantium. To begin with, the Roman
Empire was split up into two halves by Emperor Diocletian in A.D. 285. The empire was divided
into the Western Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire(The Byzantine Empire). The
Eastern Roman Empire was similar to the Western Roman Empire but had some prime differences.
These differences included language, acceptance of Christianity, and influences from Middle
Eastern along with Greek Culture. During most of the Eastern Roman Empire s existence, it was
the political, military, and financial powerhouse of Europe. When Justinian I(Widely known as

This shows that Justinian is a vicious bloodthirsty man, who did not value the lives of his
citizens. Justinian ruled such as Roman emperors Nero and Caligula in the fact that he was
mentally disturbed and unhinged. He ruled parallel to those emperors because he was
bloodthirsty and had no limits to his extreme tyranny. He recklessly killed all who dissented, and
this too he did in the name of piety. For he did not call it homicide when those who perished
happened to be of a belief that was different from his own. This is another excerpt from the Secret
History by Procopius. It once again shows that Justinian had no limits to what he viewed as
acceptable, ruthlessly murdering all who stood in his way. Justinian had no limits, as did many
Roman emperors. Roman emperors such as Tiberius, Caligula and, Nero. The last two out of three
had an extreme authoritarianism, making the innocent suffer at any chance they could, such as
Justinian. ... So while he was Emperor, the whole earth ran red with the blood of nearly all the
Romans and the barbarians. Such were the results of the wars throughout the whole Empire. During
this time. But the civil strife in Constantinople and in every other city, if the dead were reckoned,
would total no smaller number of slain than those who perished in the wars, I believe. This excerpt

Gregor Mendel s Theory Of Genetics
Introduction
Gregor Johann Mendel was a scientist, Augustinian friar and an abbot of St. Thomas Abbey in
Brno, Margraviate of Moravia. He was born on July 20, 1822 and died on January 6, 1884 at the
age of 61. He was Austrian and was the child of Anton and Rosine Mendel along with two other
siblings. He studied in the field of genetics at two universities and one institution and is known for
creating the science of genetics.
Early Life Gregor was born the middle child and the only son of Anton and Rosine Mendel. He
lived and worked on the family farm that had been family owned for generations. He worked in

Some of these characteristics were the height of the plant, shape of the pod, shape of the seed,
size and color of the seeds. He cross pollinated the plants with different characteristics in order to
study the effects on the offspring. He also made sure to prevent accidental pollination by insects.
He cultivated thousands of pea plants throughout his experiments. He collected the seeds of the
offspring and examined them for changes or variations in color, shape, and size. He compared
the plants for differences in height. Over a period of eight years he examined and observed
plants that would form the basis for a deeper study of genetics. He presented the results of his
experiments in 1865 at the Natural History Society of Brno. In 1866 his findings were published in
Experiments on Plant Hybridization. His research failed to create an impact at that time. He was
made abbot of the monastery in 1868, where he had been teaching. The increase in responsibilities
prevented him from carrying out anymore scientific experiments. Gregor Mendel s experiments and
information failed to gain much attention and importance during his lifetime, but he did form the
foundation for what is now known as Mendel s Laws of Inheritance.
Accomplishments Gregor Mendel discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance by his work
through pea plants. He concluded that genes come

Shrek Rhetorical Analysis Essay People have always watched fairytales at a very young age,
growing up to believe in them. Some watched them to obtain some kind illusion, for pure
entertainment, and others for the sake of love. However, not every fairytale has a purpose of
giving us an illusion, of entertaining us, or making us believe in love. Shrek is not a typical fairytale.
Even though many people see Shrek along with other fairytales as any other movie created for

It is universally understood that the means of such expression refer to a pair of lovers whose
relationship is sabotaged by outside forces. It is seen as Shrek develops feelings for Fiona, and
Fiona falls in love with Shrek. It is pretty odd because Shrek is a huge ogre and Fiona is just a tiny
human princess, who was supposed to marry a prince. Even donkey mentions to Shrek that She
s as nasty as you are. Another quality they have in common. It is not the star crossed lovers
fairytale we are used to, but their feelings are so true and pure. What changes, is Fiona s
transformation into an ogre which makes things easier for the couple. The director uses pathos
to appeal to the audience emotions and make them develop a connection between the
complicated but true love both of these characters have developed. A friendly beast or an animal
companion, who helps guide the hero throughout the quest, is expected to be someone brave,
smart, and helpful. Shrek s friendly beast is an ass. The denotation for this ass would be a
donkey but in society, the connotation for calling a donkey an ass is seen as saying they are
stupid and imbecile. Donkey proves to be a different friendly beast by always making stupid
jokes, fearing every single part of the quest, and complicating things up for Shrek instead of
making them simpler. Even though he may not be very helpful, he is still a very loyal and kind

Self Preservation Is Not The Bee s Knees Essay
Self Preservation is Not the Bee s Knees: A Refutation to Part III of Spinoza s Ethics
Benedict de Spinoza takes an unique stance in his Ethics, claiming all things exist only to
prolong their own existence and preserve their essence. Yet there are plenty of examples in
nature alone that seem to counter his claims where creatures strive for an action that will lead to
their deaths, as seen in the case of various species of spiders and bees. However, Spinoza s claim
that things strive to preserve their essence fails to fulfill his goal in explaining how and why nature
works the way it does, as seen in the case with self sacrificial spiders as well as the behavioral
and biological aspects of male bees (drones). Thus, I argue that although Spinoza tries to move
away from a teleological account of the world to a more mechanistic one by introducing his idea of
self preservation, his idea is lacking and is unable to actually explain anything in depth, and we
therefore must look to Aristotle s account of final causes to actually understand the behavior of
aforementioned creatures. In order to develop my argument I will begin by discussing Spinoza s
stance on the self preservation of essence and why his account fails to actually provide an in
depth explanation about how nature works, and then I will look at the behavior of male redback
spiders as well as the self destructive biology of male bees which will help demonstrate why
Aristotle s teleological account of nature is still

  • 2. The Tricky Goblin And The Green Goo CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR The Tricky Goblin and the Green Goo I must have lost my footing somehow during my slip through the mirror because I fall out of it and crashed with a with a painful thud on my bedroom floor. I looked up. My room was dark, but a door was ajar in the kitchen, and light from a fixture stretched across the hallway. I untangled my feet and rose. Then silently crept into the living room, hid behind the sofa, and peeked over the top. Gordok sitting at the table eating some kind of green gunk and giggling with a group of witches. I stood up and the look in his eyes made my blood run cold! You u u ... he hissed his face even brighter green then the goo. One of the witches picked up a glop off the plate and threw it at me. It landed on my forehead and dripped off my nose and onto my chin. Eww ... what is this disgusting stuff? I asked wiping it off with the back of my sleeve. The goblin bared his fangs and his beady eyes began to glow. Shut up and hand it over boy! I suppose you want this? I said daggling the key out in front of me. The witches scramble to their feet. I ran down the hall and into my room, slamming the door and locking it behind me. Gordok started to pound on the door. The jig is up boy. Just give us what we want and I ll let your Parent s go. Why am I running I thought as I pulled the wand out from beneath my vest. How do I know that you re not just say that, I shouted back. Have I ever lied to you? he laughed and ... • 3. Douglas Ivester Case Study Essay Case Study Coca Cola and CEO Douglas Ivester And BP and CEO Tony Hayward 1.If Douglas Ivester was so successful, for years, on the executive staff, why did he fail when he was given the CEO/president position? Give an overall impression, broad stroke explanation of why he failed. Ivester was a hardworking, diligent CEO, but he lost sight of the people side of Coca Cola. In any business people are a very important aspect that needs to be nurtured because without them the business is nothing but a name. Ivester s predecessor, Robert Goizueta, had a management mantra this is a people relations business (Knoop, 11). Ivester seemed to forget that mantra and took over the company selfishly. 2.List the key situational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From an emotional intelligence perspective I think Douglas Ivester had more failing then successes. Ivester had a high I.Q. but lacked emotional intelligence (E.I.). He failed by not have very good social skills. This was shown by how he dealt with the bottlers of Coca Cola. He wanted power over them instead of building relationships. Also, he failed by not having empathy for others. His lack of empathy was shown by the contamination scare in Belgium. At the time of the scare many people were dealing with the past scare of Mad Cow Disease in 1994. The Coke contamination made everyone s emotions heighten. Ivester should have responded more quickly to the situation and with more empathy for the people who were experiencing it first hand. His one success was motivation. Ivester was highly motivated and he seemed to push through all of his setbacks although it seemed he didn t learn any lessons from his mistakes. 7.What type of leadership approach did Ivester take when he was part of Coke s executive staff? During the year of being part of Coke s executive staff Ivester was more of manager instead of a leader. Ivester was able to work up the corporate ladder at Coca Cola. He became a finance wizard and for twenty years he was proving himself to the company. He was very competitive at what he did and he was a genius at managing operations. 8.What type of leadership approach did he take once he became CEO? Ivester s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Learning Disability If I was invited to an interview for a new job, I would choose not to disclose my learning disability to the interviewer. Despite the fact that there are many upsides to disclosure, I personally feel as though the cons outweigh the pros. Some of the cons include embarrassment, loss of independence, and overall discrimination you may face from employers. First of all, sharing that you have a learning disabilitycan be very nerve wracking or even embarrassing for some. People aren t always accepting, and they may see you as someone who you re truly not. This ties into the second reason why I wouldn t disclose my learning disability in a job interview: loss of independence. When people find out that you have a learning disability, sometimes they ... The Great wall of China was built by the Shang and Han Dynasties of ancient china to protect the nation from the Xiongnu. The great wall of china: did the benefit outweigh the cost? The construction of the wall was worth the cost because, he security it provides increased trade and in turn, increased openness to new ideas transferred along the silk road. To begin, the wall provided more security for China. In other words, the wall was used as a shield. The wall was about 4,000 miles long acting as a barrier against the Xiongnu to the north (Doc.A). The trade between nations created peace that the silk road needed to stay safe. The wall increased trade due to traders feeling safer. Another benefit of the wall was China s openness to new ideas. In other words, the silk road carried new ideas to China. The silk road integrated new religions and types of music (Doc.D). None of the exports of Han China included religion or music. Emperor Wudi did lots t keep the merchants and caravans safe (Doc.D). The emperor wouldn t have done this if he wasn t open to new cultures. China s new openness to new ideas is thanks to the wall. It is clear that the wall was worth the cost because, the security it provided increased trade and openness to new ideas. The wall served as a shield against the Xiongnu. • 6. Justice and Love in Hugo s Les MisГ©rables The nineteenth century was an era distinguished by invention, progress, and social change. Countries were busy healing from previous wars while fighting ongoing battles at the same time. Nationalism and militarism became extremely evident around the world as advances in science and exploration propelled new discoveries. Significant movements, such as Romanticism and the Industrial Revolution, stemmed in Europe and swept the masses, spreading widely across nations. The rapid growth of the British Empire, alongside the calamitous fall of the French Empire, marked the beginning of the eventful nineteenth century. Years after the French Revolution, the French Empire was defeated in the Napoleonic wars, resulting in a broken union full of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under the Declaration of Rights, the foreman s action of discriminating Valjean would be legally protected because distinction based on virtue is permitted. However, the Declaration completely disregards the fact that Valjean was imprisoned for something he did in a hopeless situation. The society turned innocent people into hardened criminals because of their status. In Les MisГ©rables, Hugo focuses on society s mistreatment of Valjean in order to show how society in nineteenth century France was defective because it took no notice of the morality of inevitable crime. By incorporating an accurate historical figure into his novel, Hugo highlights the idea that even in miserable conditions, life can be changed through perseverance and effort. In Les MisГ©rables, Jean Valjeanescapes his dark criminal past and uses his knowledge of industry to start a successful factory. Years later, he becomes the mayor and is rumored to have immense sums deposited with Laffitte, with the special condition that they were always at his immediate command (Hugo 55). Hugo places Jacques Laffitte, a real banker from French history, into his novel to interact with the transformed Valjean. Laffitte, a successful banker and politician, rose ... • 8. Whole Milk Vs Skim Milk Two Products When deciding between whole milk and skim milk, most people including myself, base their choices on differences in taste, cost, and nutritional value. Personally I prefer whole milk over skim milk because whole milk has more nutritional value and tastes better. I will show a number of differences and similarities in these products. First I will talk about the information on whole milk. When we look to the characteristic of taste, we see that whole milk is superior. We see that many people prefer to have lots of fatty flavors in their diets, and the addition of whole milk into their diet would allow them to get the taste they love and still get a lot of nutrients. When we look to the characteristic of cost, the consumer should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To buy skim milk would be a horrible thing to do just based on taste alone. When we look to the past, we see that skim milk is made of, used to be industrial waste. To make the milk its trademark white color, companies add powdered milk solids into the milk to make it look white instead of the blue it usually looks like. When we look at cost, the consumer will see that skim milk will win here. The reason skim milk is cheaper is because it has less cream, so it costs less. When we look to the characteristic of nutritional value, skim milk is lacking. Created from the industrial waste of whole milk, skim milk doesn t have as much nutritional value as whole milk does. Often times people think that drinking skim milk lowers calorie consumption, but that is false because the consumer gets less fat in the skim milk, and the consumer feels less satisfied. When the consumer drinks skim milk he or she often eats lots of junk food instead of being satisfied with just milk. According to healthland.time.com, skim milk has almost no nutritional value. It has no Vitamin K and the other vitamins need fat to be absorbed into the body, which skim milk doesn t offer. Also the same website stated that drinking skim milk can increase the likelihood of heart disease. So really drinking skim milk is a net harm, not a net gain. Also when the cows that are used to make skim milk are milked, they are often times sick. The FDA allows up to 750 million pus cells per liter of milk, which the consumer really doesn t want to be drinking. So, I hope the consumer will drink whole milk over ... Initially, Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as outgoing for a diversified amount of explanations. First of all, she went on a trip with her boyfriend and had to go a few days without clothes. She has decided to make outfits on the go. Some people may believe that she is outgoing because this is not easy to pull off. In addition, Rebecca is not afraid to take risks. She went on a trip with Luke in a days notice. Rebecca may feel like she is being a good girlfriend by going on trips with her boyfriend in a short notice and that s why she is so outgoing. She also puts herself out there like talking to people she does not know at the wedding. On the other hand, Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as ecstatic for an assorted number of reasons. The first reason is she came up with a motto to go by. In the book it states, My new motto is buy only what you need. I know, it sounds almost too simple but it really does work. Before each purchase, I ask myself one question: do I need this? And only if the answer is yes do I make the purchase. Its all just a matter of self discipline . • 11. Symptoms And Diagnosis Of Sepsis With sepsis becoming a growing concern with each passing day, we must develop new ways to combat it aggressively. With EMS becoming a more advanced, educated, and integral member of the health care team; there must be an inclusion of them into the early and advanced treatment of sepsis. According to a research team in the Netherlands 3.3 out of every 100 patients encountered by EMS in the United States have severe sepsisdiagnoses, compared to only 2.3 per 100 for myocardial infarction and 2.2 per 100 for stroke (Van der Wekken et al., 2016). This is massive considering it is not considered a time critical diagnosis like myocardial infarction and stroke already are. • 12. Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung Galaxy Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The year was 2002, I was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit that day was likely a black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered vans. The music blasted through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck. The song Pieces Mended by The Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade. I remember thinking that the entire situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy was going to help me. The only ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine flavored dutch, and my bed. The song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day, because honestly, what did they know about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto for the next few years (The Used, 2002). Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and adolescence are difficult to remember, but the emotions that arise in association with being fifteen are difficult to forget. Using music and movement made it easier to embody a younger version of myself for the Adolescent Mandala assignment. During the Industrial Revolution, young girls and women worked in mills to earn pay while men worked in factories. This includes the voltage on the fences around the farm, the temperature of the milk that is in the vat and the activity of the water pump. A constant monitoring system of these three important farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application will be designed to incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the required voltage on them this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be difficult to monitor as currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester. The milk temperature is required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk company to ensure it is safe for human consumption. • 20. The Pathophysiology Of Muscles The word muscle has its origins in the Latin word musculus which means little mouse . The terminology became popular as the movement of certain muscles, most notably biceps, was thought to be reminiscent of a mouse moving beneath a rug. Another explanation is that at the anatomical level, some muscles look like mice. This holds true especially for muscles with long, thin tendons that resemble a mouse s tail. Muscles are specialized contractile tissues responsible for motility, a feature that is a distinguishing characteristic between the plant and animal kingdoms; and are responsible for most physiological processes in higher animals like blood circulation, contractions of the heart, involuntary peristaltic movements of the gut, respiration, voluntary body movements, maintenance of posture, gait and facial expressions. How a single tissue performs such varied functions can be attributed to the distinct mechanical, contractile, structural and electrophysiological properties that are acquired by each muscle type during the course of development. I will explain the contrast of and significance of difference between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be more or less elastic for availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and consumer s time horizon, and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to business decision making that result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic demand and perfectly inelastic demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of demand, also known as price demand elasticity, is defined as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their profits. Cross price ... Instead of impairing, it encouraged directors to use artistic ideas and integrity to surpass the viewers expectations actively involving them in the film despite Hollywood s censorship. Howard Hawks is one such director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood s nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her birthday suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes. • 32. The Battle Between Grendel And Beowulf Carl Van Clausewitz once said, Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior. In a culture where being a warrior is a very integral part of everyday lives, having courage is a key component of social survival. To have courage means to be able to defend a kingdom by every means possible. It means protecting and ascertaining the wellbeing of the people within one s own kingdom. And above all, courage means remaining loyal to one s king, regardless of the circumstance. This is the warriorculture that Beowulfin Beowulf was a part of successfully as a thane, and the same warrior culture that leads the narrator in The Wanderer to lament past memories. In Beowulf, the fight between Grendeland Beowulf was certainly a nail biter. In this fight, however, Beowulf shows his courage by doing his absolute best at defending the kingdom by taking on this gruesome monster. Grendel was wreaking havoc on the kingdom to no end. He was killing many and terrorizing the citizens greatly. When Beowulf heard of this, as a courageous thane, he stepped in to try to stop this and protect the people. • 33. Lancelot As A Hero In King Arthur And His Knight Within any story, the hero must contain three integral qualities: he or she must be the apparent protagonist of the novel, he or she must commit oneself to noble qualities and doings without exception, and he or she must be figuratively or literally invisible. In King Arthur His Knights, the three main contenders to be the hero of the story are Lancelot, King Arthur, and Galahad. However, each has a fatal flaw that annuls their ability to become the hero, for none of them adhere to all three qualities of a hero. Lancelot has the most plausible chance to be the hero of the story. He exhibits two of the three qualities needed to be the hero. He seems to be the protagonist because his existence is necessary for the progression of the story, and he is literally invincible. He can easily destroy any foe that blocks him from success from bouts with an invisible knight to bouts with up to 15 knights at once (). Lancelot apparently exhibits the strong qualities of a knight, so why is he not the hero of the story? He does not fit the heroic quality of committing himself to nobility. The notable example of this lack of quality is his affair with Guinevere. In The Knight of the Cart Lancelot heroically rides to save Guinevere, but later that night sleeps with her while committing treason against King Arthur (). Some may excuse his actions with the belief that he is in love with Guinevere and Guinevere with him. However, love does not always have to express with sex and thus ... Scientists are sure that it exists because of the observable gravitational effect that it exhibits on galaxy clusters and galaxies. One way to explain how space acquires energy comes from the Quantum Theory of Matter. According to this theory; the empty space is really full of temporary particles that evolve continuously until they disappear. For instance, a theory in standard physics states that stars at the edges of a spiraled galaxy should move much slower than those near the center of the galaxy, where the galaxy s visible matter is more concentrated. But, observations show that stars tend to orbit at somewhat of an equal speed, no matter where they are positioned in the galaxy. This puzzling theory makes sense if one assumes that the stars at the borders of galaxies are affected by the gravitational pull of an unseen mass dark matter in a halo around the galaxy. Another explanation for dark energy is that it is a new kind of dynamical energy fluid or field that fills all of space but something whose effect on the expansion of the Universe is the opposite of that of matter and normal energy. Some dark matter possibilities could still be probable. If it was tied up in brown dwarfs or in small chunks of heavy element, they could still be made up of baryonic matter. These possibilities are known as massive compact halo objects, or MACHOs . The more common view is that dark matter is not baryonic at all, but that it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is seen as Shrek develops feelings for Fiona, and Fiona falls in love with Shrek. It is pretty odd because Shrek is a huge ogre and Fiona is just a tiny human princess, who was supposed to marry a prince. Even donkey mentions to Shrek that She s as nasty as you are. Another quality they have in common. It is not the star crossed lovers fairytale we are used to, but their feelings are so true and pure. What changes, is Fiona s transformation into an ogre which makes things easier for the couple. The director uses pathos to appeal to the audience emotions and make them develop a connection between the complicated but true love both of these characters have developed. A friendly beast or an animal companion, who helps guide the hero throughout the quest, is expected to be someone brave, smart, and helpful. Shrek s friendly beast is an ass. Yet there are plenty of examples in nature alone that seem to counter his claims where creatures strive for an action that will lead to their deaths, as seen in the case of various species of spiders and bees. However, Spinoza s claim that things strive to preserve their essence fails to fulfill his goal in explaining how and why nature works the way it does, as seen in the case with self sacrificial spiders as well as the behavioral and biological aspects of male bees (drones). Thus, I argue that although Spinoza tries to move away from a teleological account of the world to a more mechanistic one by introducing his idea of self preservation, his idea is lacking and is unable to actually explain anything in depth, and we therefore must look to Aristotle s account of final causes to actually understand the behavior of aforementioned creatures. In order to develop my argument I will begin by discussing Spinoza s stance on the self preservation of essence and why his account fails to actually provide an in depth explanation about how nature works, and then I will look at the behavior of male redback spiders as well as the self destructive biology of male bees which will help demonstrate why Aristotle s teleological account of nature is still ...
