Financial Advisor Career
Senior Paper
When I was 10, my mom and dad got divorced. For 3 years after that me and my mom had
basically nothing. No heat, no food, we were lucky to have a house. Ever since then, I knew I
wanted to help people with financial trouble, which is why I enrolled in Business Academy at
New Market Skills Center. As I have been studying there, I have picked up a myriad of skills I
can use in the real world. I help with multiple blood drives and lead tours around the campus
every week. But the most important skill I ve picked up in my short time at New Market is how
to control and budget your money, which I feel is a skill everybody needs, but not everyone has
this crucial skill. With that mindset I have decided that I want to pursue a career in ... Show more

While I was observing there, I got to experience a normal day as a bank teller and got to have a
one on one conversation with Robert Hoffman, a financial advisor. The thing that stuck out the
most while talking to Mr. Hoffman was how he explained his job, Most Americans don t
understand finances. Financial planning is much like a GPS, You need to know where you are
and where want to be, it s my job to tell you how to get there (Hoffman). What he said stuck to
me not only because he explained his job so simply but also because he s passionate about his
job and was excited that I m interested in doing what he does. Also while shadowing, I got the
chance to interview a member consultant, Laura Grunenfelder. When I asked about her typical
day, she said A typical day for me is making sure my team has the tools they need to complete
their job, making sure we ve satisfied our customers expectations and keeping the branch safe
and secure (Grunenfelder). When I asked about what technology is used she said Computers are
so important to being a teller. If the system crashes, it slows us down a lot. We also use social
media to advertise our branch, we have team members overseeing our social media accounts
(Grunenfelder). With the information I have gathered on my job shadow I am finding myself more
drawn to this career than I ever have

Essay On Aztec Empire
Meta: Kajot is taking players back to the era of the Aztecs. Rebuilding this age old empire one
sandstone at a time, Aztec Empire is a reel based experience that is worth getting excited about.
Aztec Empire
It is safe to say that there have been many empires throughout the world, with most writing their
name into the history books. One of these empires was known as the Aztec Empire, which looks to
carry a little more mystique than the eras that came before. Taking true inspiration from this era in
time, this famous empire has been brought to life by the casino slots game that is simply known as
Aztec Empire. Promising to be magical and devoted to the natural way of life the Aztec people, this
game sets it stall to be different than competing titles in more ways than one.

Intimate Partner Violence Problem Statement
Problem Statement
Around the world, one in every three women has been coerced into having intercourse, beaten, or
abused during some point in her lifetime (Domestic Violence Statistics, 2015). The topic that will
be studied with the paper is intimate partner violence or another term that can be used is domestic
violence. Domestic violence or intimate partner violence is the systematic pattern or control or
power perpetuated by one partner against another (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence,
n.d.). Throughout the paper the term domestic violence and intimate violence will be used
interchangeably. The misconception is that domestic violence or intimate partner violence is only
between two people in a romantic relationship, but this is not so. Domestic violence includes, but is
not limited to child abuse, elder and vulnerable adult abuse, spousal or partner abuse, and sibling
violence (Can Fam Physician, 1999). This behavior can include but is not limited to sexual assault,
intimidation, and physical assault (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, n.d.). Reports
from 10 countries have shown that somewhere between 55 and 95 percent of women who
experience physical abuse by a partner had never contacted the police, shelters, or other
organizations for help (Domestic Violence Statistics, 2015).
Intimate partner violence or also known as domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to
women including thefts, rapes, and car accidents combined (Domestic Violence

Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s The Heart Of Darkness

Female Roles in Joseph Conrad s the Heart of Darkness:
In regards to Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, many literature reviews focus on the motifs of
Imperialism, the symbolism of darkness and fog, or the aspect of racism in Conrad s work. During
the era which Conrad wrote, England was going through the Victorian Era, which was marked by a
shift in views on morality. The term Victorian morality is used today to describe values which
adopt a social code of conduct in a restrictive way, such as views on sexual restraint and a low
tolerance of crime (Sanders, 2). The Victorian era saw social issues such as child labor and
prostitution become issues which influenced societal views on the roles of women in British
society (Sanders, 10). These social norms shaped men s views on women in general, giving rise to
the underlining perceptions of female purity and the role of women as homemakers. This essay
will examine the role that societal views on women in the 19th century had on Conrad s portrayal
of women by the analysis of four sets of minor characters in his book, Marlow s aunt, the two
women knitting outside of the office, The Intended (Kurtz fiancГ©), and Kurtz mistress.
Social exclusion became a popular topic among academics debating such topics as poverty and
unemployment. Social exclusion of women is the lack of social integration and power (Young,
1159). In Conrad s work, he perpetuates the idea that

North American Craton Research Papers
North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent,
makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to
the earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of
years ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction
zones, slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to
their size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin
gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction,
sedimentation, and continental collision. The center of the North American... Show more content on

The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still
located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of
shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually
formed into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform
were later shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions
in which they became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of
groundwater slowly dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on
earth with over 346 miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places
like the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as
karst topographies. There are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but,
more predominantly at the surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for
example. The gradual uplift of the Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several
sedimentary layers in this region, beginning around ~100 million years ago. Over time river and
wind processes have left the distinctive strata of silt and shale

Momentum is a phenomenon shows that well performed stocks continue to outperform their peers
while poor performed stocks continue to underperform. Thus, more mutual funds use this powerful
strategy to draw a broad range of investors by getting higher risk adjusted returns. AQR is a hedge
fund based in Greenwich, Connecticut, offering investing products that applies price phenomenon
known as momentum. This case study enables investors to get a closer look at AQR s momentum

Traditional momentum strategy
According to the case, there were four differences between AQR s retail momentum strategy and
traditional momentum strategy.
1. The retail strategy can only take long positions on winner stocks, while the traditional one can
also short the loser stocks to maximize returns.
2. As an open ended mutual fund, AQR has to maintain certain level of liquidity and be ready to
return capital to investors when they demand, while the traditional strategy used by hedge funds
can require a lock up period and a long redemption notice period.
3. AQR s strategy faced more stringent reporting and compensation requirements.
4. AQR s strategy was required by regulators to be sufficiently diversified among assets, industries
as well as companies. And to compare the profitability of both strategies, we estimated the expected

Hip hop has influences on other type of music also, from blues to rock and roll. The youth of this
generation see hip hop like what the older generation see blues. An essential to hip hop is graffiti
writing. Before hip hop it was used as a political expression for different gangs. Now, many
people use it as a way to bring their words to life. It carries meaning and expression of thoughts
and ideas. It holds feeling and energy. It holds a strength and assortment that not just the artist
can see. It carries independence, motive and inspiration. Not everyone can understand what it
beholds. It contains beauty and grace. Lyrical poets use it to state ideas, no matter the cost of
conveying them. Graffiti was around since existence of human and thousands of years before
written languages urbanized. The natives used their environment as a canvas for expression.
Artists use a wall as a canvas. It doesn t even require a museum to see it; all you have to do is

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural
ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick
the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they
are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by
Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice
of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The
Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a
uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated
ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was like on the frontier. Murlock lived in
a simple log house made with one door and one window. The latter, however, was boarded up
nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people knew the secret of the window,
or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had lived nearby and relayed the
story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life. Bierce portrays this actual
life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and downs, that sometimes he
had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook beneath his arms, and at
the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another sounds as of bare
feet upon the floor! His did the best he cloud but with no medical help she died after three days. He
laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically dad what he
thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her hair.
Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real situation
of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although some
people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Romantic and comes closer to understanding the
life of an uneducated ordinary

Molecular And Biochemical Genetic Studies On Rice...
Title: Molecular and Biochemical Genetic Studies on Rice Blast Disease.
1 Summary:
Background: Rice (Oryza sativa, L.) is one of the strategic crops in Egypt, and improvement of its
productivity is an essential requirement to ensure food security. Rice blast is one of the most
important diseases of rice causing an average yield loss of 30 50% annually in rice growing areas
of the world. Many resistant rice cultivars are short lived after deployment because of the highly
variation in Magnaporthe oryzae population, due to a high level of genomic instability of the
pathogen. So that, the rice breeders trying to overcome this problem by developing resistant
varieties by genetic approaches to maintain sustainability of rice production.
Proposed Research: The aim of the current study is to study the rice blast mechanisms at molecular,
biochemical and physiological levels in some rice genotypes.
Methodology: (1) Some selected rice genotypes will be evaluated for blast resistance in seedling
stage under greenhouse condition. (2) Identification of rice blast resistance gene(s) in the
genotypes. (3) Determination of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO)
activities and the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves of tested genotypes before and after
8 days from inoculation date with Pyricularia oryzae. (4) Quantitative real time PCR (qRT PCR)
analysis will be carried out to identify the most responsive rice blast resistance gene(s) in the
genotypes. (5) For

Are There Risks And Confidentiality When Conducting On...
Are there risks to confidentiality when conducting on line counseling?
Yes there is risk to confidentiality when conducting online counseling. Online counseling does not
guaranty discretion there are security breaches and there as well as other security measures that
have not been thought of to help keep and protect privacy (Coleman, 2000). Another breach that
could occur as far as confidentiality when conducting on line counseling is breach in data, WIFI
and or secure networks, like using public computers and or public non secure WIFI. These sources
of accessing the internet have been known to have security breaches all the time. For example in
recent news OPM has a had a security breach for its government and contract employees where all
of their private information had been hacked into this includes any information you had to give up
on your neighbors and any foreign information that was part of your background check as well as
all personal and identifiable information, This breach violated all HIPAA training and requirements.
Also online counseling can leave space for misunderstandings of information received and
observed which can result in mismanagement, negligence s and better opportunity for incorrect
diagnosis or treatment (Coleman, 2000). For example with emails and text messages people
misconstrue information that is being received all the time, if there is not a comma in the right
place or you accidently put something in all in caps it could be received as you

Lack Of Communication In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
When both involved do not effectively communicate with each other, a distant marriage may lead
to discontent for all. Sinclair Ross s short story, The Painted Door , deals with the growing
dissatisfaction and loneliness of a farmer s wife, Ann, who feels alone as her husband deals with the
harsh conditions of the environment. This story demonstrates how deeply communication can
affect a marriage, be it bad or good. One of the most fundamental elements of a healthy relationship
is communication. Lack of communication in a relationship can result to severe consequences.
Irrespective of the kind of relationship, lack of communication magnifies issues in a relationship
undermining the very foundation of the relationship. The success of any relationship relies on one
s ability to communicate well. Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share
our interest, concerns, support each other. John is a simple farmer who thinks the only way he can
please his wife, is by working all day to earn money for her. However, Ann would prefer he spend
more time with her. Their relationship is stressed even further when Ann is left at home alone with
nothing to think about but their relationship because John has to go to his father s house. The
terrible snow storm accentuates Ann s feelings of loneliness and despair. These feelings lead Ann to
seek comfort and companionship from Steven, the attractive friend of her husband, John, thus
leading to John s suicide.

Difference Between Hiring A Professional
Graphic Design
Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and
doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person
doesn t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business
and its values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the
attention of the viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product
or service, yet many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more
than a symbol of the company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this.
With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with
the customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they
look, and a professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the
customer with information about the company. Although these may not seem of importance to the
average person, technical aspects such as bleeding and cropping do play a role in the customer s
perception of the brand. They don t realize this, but it is truly the case. Our team of graphic
designers is familiar with these and other techniques and use them where appropriate to convey the
desired message.
Most importantly, graphic design involves more than creating a logo. Layout and production design

The talk in the off season was that Jordan Eberle was going to slide into that spot on the right wing
and Bailey would never put up the same numbers without the captain to pad his statistics. Well,
Bailey did just fine on his own, producing seven points in 8 ВЅ games prior to the reunion. And
Eberle has looked fantastic on his own as well, combining with up and coming Mathew Barzal and
a rejuvenated Andrew Ladd to form a powerful second unit.
Sometimes, you just mesh well with certain guys. Obviously, when you got Johnny (Tavares)
down the middle, he s such a threat at all times and Anders brings a great element to the line,
doing all the dirty work. Bailey said when I asked him about the remarkable chemistry. I think it
just works. It s been fun to be back with those guys and we hope to continue this success .

the NHL s current financial environment, not to mention he has positioned himself well for a
hefty raise, increasing his point per game average from an average of 0.49 to 0.68 last year to

Death By A Suicidal Pilot
Death by a suicidal pilot sounds absurd to think that this even possible. As we consider the
hundreds way possible to commit suicide why this way? Is this a new thing or has it been around
for years? What regulations are in place to determine a pilot is mentally unstable with a possibility
of committing suicide? Is there anything more can the FAA do to prevent this form happing?
These are all questions to determine if the current policies in place will reduce aviation assisted
suicides to zero as we enter the 21th century.
Aircraft assisted are rare now days according to an Air Space magazine article: In the 20 years
between 1993 and 2012, 24 of 7,244 fatal aviation accidents (0.33 percent of the total) are
thought to have been caused deliberately by a member of the pilot crew (Reichhardt, T. (Jul 29,
2104). Less than 1 percent, but where there plane crashes before 1993 caused by suicides. This
.33 percent doesn t include the aviators committing suicide by airplanes since World War II.
Japanese military aviators, also known as Kamaikaze pilots, committed 3,860 suicide attacks in
WWII between 1944 and 1945 causing 48.1 percent of all damage to US warships and more than
7,000 killed.(3) The Kamikaze suicide is almost non existence now days when it comes to
military actions and only the mentally unstable suicidal aircrews remain. A lot of time passed
since 1945, so all the recent airplane suicides have been caused by the same major factors as a

Divine Command Theory And Natural Law Theory
Religion has always been a central part of human history, tracing back to the earliest known records
in human existence. From the ancient Egyptians to the Mayans, from the Celts to the Greeks and
Romans, from Hinduism to Judaism to Catholicism, religion has always been the center of human
culture. Recent studies have suggested that religionwas centered on advanced alien races whose
technology was misunderstood. However, one thing is undeniable, these age old systems of
belief and worship of a higher being or deity were, in a sense, their own moral systems, two of
which are Divine Command Theory and Natural Law Theory. These two systems, among others,
once guided and advised ancient humans in moral judgements. Divine Command Theory is a
proposed relationship between moral correctness and the higher deity s commands, henceforth
the deity will be called god. This situation is elaborated upon in a dialogue between Socrates and
Euthyphro, in where Socrates asks Euthyphro what it means to be pious or to be morally right.
After failed attempts to answer this, Socrates proposes two options to this question that is
known as the Euthyphro Dilemma, Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious? Or is it
pious because it is loved by the gods? (text). In other words, is the pious thing inherently pious
(a.k.a morally right) and therefore is loved by the gods, or is being loved by the gods what causes
something to be morally right. In effect, it asks whether moral rightness was

In this way, the researcher is able to discover the recurring patterns of behavior and relationships.
After these patterns are identified and described through early analysis of field notes, checklists
become more appropriate and context sensitive. Focused observation then is used at later stages
of the study, usually to see, for example, if analytic themes explain behavior and relationships over
a long time or in a variety of settings. Observation is a fundamental and highly important method
in all qualitative inquiry. It is used to discover complex interactions in natural social settings. Even
in studies using in depth interviews, observation plays an important role as the researcher notes the
interviewee s body language and affect in addition to her words. It is, however, a method that
requires a great deal of the researcher. Discomfort, uncomfortable ethical dilemmas and even
danger, the difficulty of managing a relatively unobtrusive role, and the challenge of identifying the
big picture while finely observing huge amounts of fast moving and complex behavior are just a
few of the challenges.
Whether a researcher is simply observing from afar or finding a participant observer role in the
setting, some contexts may present dangers. Street ethnography is a term that describes research
settings which can be dangerous, either physically or emotionally, such as working with the police

A Man Called Ove Essay Theme
In the novel, A Man Called Ove written by Fredrik Backman, Ove, an old man, is living in
Sweden. He lives on a private road in old town homes. His neighbors were old friends, but now
they are moving to retirement homes and new more modern people are moving in. Patrick and
Parvaneh are one of the new couples that moved in. They have little children and Ove will
become very close to them because of traumatic events. White Men are the authority in the book.
They try and come into the neighborhood and take everything away from Ove and his neighbors.
Ove lives in a neighborhood with very strict rules that he likes to keep to. For example, motor
vehicles are prohibited, so when the new neighbors bring their car in Ove isn t to happy with them.

To start off, a part I did not like about the book was the part about Ove s dad. I felt as though this
complicated the plot a lot and was not necessary to the base of the book. It did not need to be
added into the book because it had no effect to my understanding of what was happening in the
book. If anything it made me more confused because it went back in time, then it came back to
the present and it was confusing what time period we were in at the moment. A good part of the
book was when Parvaneh was becoming friends with Ove because he needed to get out of his
daily routine. Ove needed someone to shake up the life he had been living for many years. I
would not recommend this book to adolescents because the book was confusing at some points
and the humor was guided towards the adults. Personally, I would read another book by Fredrik
Backman because the book was still very well written. I also could understand the book, for the
most part. To continue, this book would be better read by adults because the humor was more
guided to that age group. Also, this book is still relevant today because people do not live forever.
We have to learn to move on from the bad times just like Ove did. When a loved one dies we feel
grief, but like Ove we use the people around us to begin to feel better about what happened to us.
In conclusion, this was a good book and I would rate it three out of five

life, without being able to move properly one cannot perform everyday tasks. Unfortunately, there
are people who are not able to do so and face many hardships in their life and may be in a lot of
pain. Therefore, these people seek professional assistance to help them regain their ability to
function normally. Usually, they end up in the care of a physical therapistand his assistant.

patients who will need to adapt to having an artificial limb or being permanently confined to a

Serial Killers And The Serial Killer
Although the prevalence of the serial killer is ultimately unknown, many researchers agree
about one half of 1% of homicides are determined to be the product of serial killers (Homant
Kennedy, 2014). In order to prevent future victims, improve the ability of law enforcement to
detect and apprehend, potentially incorporate treatment for current serial killers, and increase
the ability to detect potential future serial killers it is important to identify characteristics that
may cause one to become a serial killer. The question researchers have strived to answer is are
serial killers born or are there explicit factors that contribute to someone ultimately becoming a
serial killer? Researchers have potentially exposed several factors that potentially contribute to
one becoming a serial killer. These conditions are notably greater in prevalence in known serial
killers compared to the general population. These factors consist of family dynamics/parental
characteristics, experienced child abuse (physical, sexual, and neglect), and psychological
disorders. Serial Killers: Born or Created Dependent Variable A serial killer is an individual who
has killed three or more people during separate incidents and at possibly different geographic
locations where there is a cooling off period between each homicide (Homant Kennedy, 2014).
Researchers have identified several typologies of serial killers, however most of the research has
been done on the serial sexual sadist

Twentieth Century Violence
The twentieth century was an especially violent time in the world. The violence reflected in the
media, art and music. Some of the violent media was depicted in photojournalism. With photos like
Lee Miller s Buchenweld. The photo showed American citizens the violence that was going on with
Hitler in charge of Germany. Something we would have never seen without the photojournalism in
the twentieth century. It is always said that art imitates life, this was no different for the artists of
the twentieth century. Most of the music made in the twentieth century was about the sorrow the
artists felt for the violencegoing on in the world. Picasso was one of the artist that work seemed

A Classroom Divided By Martin Luther King Jr.
A Classroom Divided, is a Classroom United On the day following the assassination of Martin
Luther King Jr., third grade teacher Mrs. Elliot altered her lesson plans surrounding the class unit
on discrimination to concretely teach the students by having them experience the unfairness of
bigotry firsthand. In 1970, the lesson was filmed for a documentary to demonstrate the implications
of stereotypes. The class was split into two groups based on a characteristic of minimal importance
in the societal context: eye color, to develop stereotypical behaviors among the students. On
Tuesday, the first day of the experiment, the students were deemed the blue eyed students and the
brown eyed students. In order, to develop the same type of racism that is generated among whites
and colors, Mrs. Elliot started to describe the differences between the two groups. The brown eyed
students were deemed less intelligent and inform that they would be allowed five minutes less time
for recess, not be allowed to use the drinking fountain and had to wear collars so they could be
identified. Additionally, the two groups could not participate in any activities together and to
demonstrate their incompetence that was initially dismissed by the blue eyed students she provided
examples in which the student hit their little sister or forgot their glasses deeming them forgetful,
incompetent and mean. For the second day of the lesson, the roles were reversed and similar
stereotypes were appointed.

integration. If anything they were working against the grain doing spiteful things that slowed down
Vince s movement. Its unknown what type of relationship Vince had with the division presidents
from the beginning, but it appears as if the divisional presidents felt as if they had not reason to
know him or have a relationship with him.
With constant tension between the presidents and Vince he could not get them on board to fix the
business. Vince was told to do whatever it takes by Roman the founder and he did so. Vince gave
everyone plenty of opportunities, and plenty of time until he saw the presidents as a liability rather
then an asset. The main problem on why Vince could not get the divisional president on board was
because personally they had no reason. Their pay was not based on company performance, and the
integration would just make more work for them. Vince should have devised an incentive program.
Although they may not have deserved it, or they needed any more money, it would have been
worth it to Vince. He would not have to have gone through as much trouble, and he would not have
had to do everything on his own, or rely only on himself. If he awarded a bonus in incremental

Margaret Sanger Biography Essay
Margaret Sanger was one of the most influential women of the progressive era. While both a
suffragist and an avid women s rights advocate, she worked tirelessly on her goal to create a safe
and effective birth control method, though many people thought her work to be evil and
sacrilegious. But despite her opposition, she was in the end successful and inspired countless others
in the process through her selfless work and her desire to help others.
Sanger grew up in a large family and while working as a nurse, she saw first the many problems
that overpopulation was causing and had the potential to cause (Sanger). In the 1910s, Sanger

She believed it was her duty to place motherhood on a higher level than enslavement and
accident (Sanger) and in doing so, make motherhood an option. Up to this point in history, that
was considered a woman s duty to have and raise children, but Sanger saw things differently.
Sanger saw the desperation of the women who had more children than they could handle and
wanted to make a difference. Sanger collected 250,000 letters from women and published them
in a book called Motherhood in Bondage, which contained messages from these women. One
particularly moving one reads I have two small children twenty months apart, the baby now
seven weeks old and am twenty one years myself. You might know what this means to me to
care for two babies at this age when it simply stopped my being with my friends who can still be
free to go, although I would do anything for my two children to help them go through a decent
life. I am constantly living in fear of becoming pregnant again so soon (I am a prisoner). This
seems to be an accurate account of motherhood in this time period and shows the great need for
birth control which Sanger responded to with her continuous work. By creating the ability to
control the number of children a woman had, Sanger enabled families to escape the financial and
health troubles that often

Shining The Spotlight On Artificial Sweeteners

Writing 122
9 June 2015 Shining the Spotlight on Artificial SweetenersIt has been said many times before,
sugar is bad and also sugar substitutes are bad but what are the real underlying factors that support
these claims? Going to the grocery store and always seeing a product that is advertised as low sugar
or sugar free due to the supplementation of various sugar substitutes, one may be curious to
discover whether or not sugar free options are a healthier alternative to their sugar counterparts.
Arguments for both sides of the issue are readily available via any popular diet magazine or
public talk shows discussing health and diet trends. The media has consistently portrayed the use of
sugar substitutes as being beneficial for dieting and low calorie lifestyles, and people are believing
the unsupported claims by these companies, in turn purchasing the first products they see on the
shelves labeled sugar free without any knowledge of what they are putting into their body and how
it affects them. The question then arises what are the experts actually saying regarding this issue?
Do artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame, etc, do more harm than good? While it would
appear authorities have mixed feelings regarding this issue, artificial sweeteners, despite having
low to zero calories, do more harm than good to your body. There are no proven benefits to sugar
substitutes and many studies have shown that

took about 2 3 hours.
I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts

carry on in the overhead bin, but since I could barely reach to that point, someone was nice
enough to help me in putting my luggage into that spot. I sat down and watched my other sister
walk right by us with my nephew since their seat was way in the back. My mom turned and

The Rise Of The Great Depression Essay
By the end of the 1920s, the United States had the largest economy in the world. With the
destruction brought on by WWI, Europeans endured hardships while Americans continued to
thrive. Upon a successful victory of the presidency, Herbert Hoover didn t have a doubt that the
United States would soon witness the day when poverty was exterminated. Then, in a moment of
what seemed to be triumph, everything collapsed in the U.S. With the stock market crashing in
1929, it set off a chain of events that catapulted the U.S. into the longest and deepest economic
crisis it had ever seen. It is far too easy to put the blame of the Great Depressionon one event, but
when there is poor investing over time with the lack of government programs and a drop in
consumer purchasing power due to the market collapse it can delay the process of fixing the
economy for future leaders. It is far too simple to view the stock market crash as the only cause
of the Great Depression. A fit economy can be revived from such devastation. Long term causes
sent the nation into a downward slope of despair. American firms acquired substantial profits
during the 1920s and immediately reinvested most of the funds into expansion. By 1929,
companies had come to the bubble point. Workers couldn t continue to help further expansion, so
a slowdown was unpreventable. While corporate profits soared and wages improved over time, so
did the spread of the distribution of wealth. The richest people of American had over

Language, Language And Language
Have you ever listened to someone from another country speak English? A lot of times, people
speaking a second language will pronounce things a little differently than native speakers, or they
will talk at a different rhythm. Languages have their own pace, places where you expect people to
pause or speed up or articulate more clearly. We call this part of language an accent. People
speaking a secondary language may have a foreign accent, while those speaking a native tongue
have a local accent. Musicis a lot like this. Musical rhythms tend to have natural accents, emphases
on certain notes within a meter. Just like fitting in with a new culture requires learning their accent,
accents are essential to understand musical conversation.
Metric Accents
Accents in music can appear in a few basic forms. Let s start with the simplest. In many languages,
parts of speech contain natural accents. In Spanish for example, the last syllable is naturally
emphasized in most words. Music is the same in that there are natural accents within every score.
Every musical composition is divided into measures, units of a set number of beats, and certain
beats naturally carry more emphasis than others. The most important is the downbeat, the first beat
of a measure. The downbeat is always naturally accented, so there is no need to provide an accent
mark over it. We call an accent that occurs naturally in a measure a metric accent. In most Western
music, the first and third beats have metric

The Implications Of Prospect Theory
The aspects that prospect theory takes into account and the expected utility doesn t, are
emphasis on low probability events and protective willingness, which means greater risk
aversion for precautionary decisions under risk (Kusev, P., van Schaik, P., Ayton, P., Dent, J.
Chater, N. 2009). These are called heuristics and biases in decision making. In this part, other
heuristics and biases of framing of the problem, gambler s fallacy and overconfidence will be
discussed in depth with respective example and ACAR of its significance on process of making
decisions. Firstly, the bias is framing of the problem. When people frame the problem in different
ways, it will result in different decision. The example is observed when the description of options
in terms of gains (positive frame) rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically
different choices (Gonzalez, C., Dana, J., Koshino, H. Just, M. 2005). This takes an important
place in business decision making. ACAR is made following. Frame (2012) outlines that framing
is the first step when people make decisions. Russo and Schoemaker (1989) proves that this bias
affects the recognition and response to problems by providing the boundaries (what will be
considered part of the choice set), reference points (elements used to determine success and failure),
and yardsticks (how the outcomes are measured) . Nevertheless, different people can have different
framing of the problem so if they exchange thoughts, outcomes

Comparing Poems My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
TITLE
Robert Browning s poems, My Last Duchess ( MLD ) and Porphyria s Lover ( PL ) take the form
of dramatic monologues and are striking examples of literature written in the Victorian era. Due to
their form, a great interaction is developed between the reader and narrator, with an additional
oratory effect; this allows the audience to understand a situation less ambiguously through features
such as tone. Therefore, Browning is able to present male and female characters more completely.
Furthermore, the poems accurately convey gender inequality present in Victorian society, hinting at
the lack of liberties given to women.
In MLD, Browning employs the Duke as narrator, developing the reader s perception of his
personality through use of language and literary devices. As a result, the Duke inadvertently
portrays himself as egocentric, proprietorial and at times arrogant, psychotic and paranoid. He
refers to the painting of his late wife as my last Duchess , with the possessive pronoun my indicating
the Duchess is just another of his possessions. This element of the Duke s ... Show more content on

Therefore, bias may be introduced as the narrator would not portray himself with negative facets.
Consequently, the reliability of the narrator becomes questionable. This is amplified in MLD,
where the Duke s proud nature possibly hinders the truth. In PL, Browning repetitively attempts to
depict Porphyria s lover as innocent, while in reality the murder was manic and psychotic. As a
result, uncertainty is created throughout PL, as such a narrator may be deceptive. So, the reader s
perception of Porphyria s lover might be incorrect, especially during his period of euphoria when
Porphyria appears to give herself up to him. This unreliability acts as another way for Browning to
portray the male characters, as a misleading narrator will introduce a whole range of negative

Uelsmann s work was not well received in the photography community. His creations were not
considered photography; however, he was well received in the art community. John Szarkowski
hosted a solo exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in 1967. Uelsmann was considered iconoclastic
and set out to convince critics that photography offered alternatives to the conventional purist
sensibility... Uelsmann debated that photos could evoke elusive states of feeling and thinking
triggered by irrational and imaginative juxtaposition (Kay). Uelsmann has succeeded in finding a
following among photographers and artist alike. In the past forty years, Uelsmann s work has been
exhibited in over 100 solo shows throughout the US and overseas. He has permanent instillations in
museums worldwide (Taylor). Uelsmann s photos are now revered for their original technical form
as well as their surreal matter (Johnson).

This growth is largely fueled by the increased global demand for premium chocolate. The major
developing countries such as China and India are expected to offer great opportunities to the
global chocolate industry; thanks to the use of chocolate as a functional food. Organic and fair
trade chocolate is a rapidly growing segment of the industry. With consumers developing more
awareness regarding environment friendly products, this segment is expected to rise rapidly in the
next five years. One of the major concerns for the chocolate industry is the rising number of
counterfeit products. This is a great threat for the overall confectionery market and chocolate is no
exception.
The global chocolate market is highly consumer driven and companies need to focus on their
development and marketing strategies towards capturing a larger consumer base, and acquiring
new markets. The major strategies used are consolidation of processes, and enhancement of brand

Hardship In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
The Outsiders was written by S.E. Hinton. The book was written in 1967. The Outsiders take
place during the 1960s. The book is about Ponyboy and his gang. They are greasers and going up
against the Socs from the west side. The theme of The Outsiders is hardships can happen to
anyone, no matter what kind of person they are. An example of a hardship is when Johnny dies.
Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold... The pillow seemed to sink a little, and Johnny died (Hinton 148).
This shows when Johnny died and Ponyboy was there with him. Ponyboy had become very close
to Johnny during their time up in the old church in Windrixville. Another example is when Dally
died. He was jerked half around by the impact of the bullet, then slowly crumpled with a look

The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay
Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington,
but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There s something to be said when
the main characters of a novel don t even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who
were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and
Father weren t the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their
family, including Little Girl who would join Mother s family at the end of the tale, were the only
ones who were not named. That s because it s an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a
symbol for the typical middle class American family during the ProgressiveEra. However, this is
not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive
Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who
represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique
one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There s a
reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship,
and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas
forms a marriagebetween the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father
and Mother change positions. While Father grows

Vinson Synan is a Christian scholar and Dean Emeritus at Regent University in Virginia Beach. In
this work, he describes the most remarkable historical events that shaped the Pentecostalism in
America and worldwide. Synan points out specific characteristics that clarifies the origins of the
Pentecostal church in America. His main purpose is to present a historical analysis of the
Pentecostalismand its roots. According to him, the reader needs to be aware of the Pentecostal
traditions developed during the twentieth century in order to understand Pentecostalism as a major

developments and the doctrine of Sanctification (69). Synan also points out the revival meeting
occurred in Los Angeles at the beginning of the twentieth century. According to him the Azusa
Street Revival in 1906 was fundamental for the expansion of Pentecostalism in America and
Europe. In chapters six and seven, Synan explains the expansion and the influence of the
Pentecostal churches in the south of the United States and in the world. According to him, during
that time period, the principles of the Azusa Street Revival was still very strong in the United
States, which also influenced the growth of the missionary work. The issue of speak in tongues was
a major concern in this period (111). In the next chapter, Synan elucidates the main controversies

Advantical Analysis Of Qantas Airways Limited
Rivalry among Competitors: High.
Domestically Qantas Airways Limited has only one competitor in the market, that being Virgin
Australia Holdings Limited creating a duopoly. As they are parent companies of smaller airlines.
Both companies offer a cheaper airline option (Qantas jetstar and Virgin s Tiger airways) as well
as a more corporate option (Qantas and Virgin airlines).
Threat of new Entrants: The threat of new entrants within the airline industry is very low. This is
due to the high barriers to entry found within the market. The major barrier being the high capital
investment required in order to start a new airline. With planes costing millions of dollars as well as
starting up routes. The industry is also very heavily regulated by the Australian government through
the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and Airservices Australia. Airlines need to hold an Air

companies and finally the airport themselves.
When looking the aircraft manufacturers (Boeing and Airbus), the bargaining power is low. This is
due to the airline industry being the only major source of income for these companies, this is also a
costly product to both manufacture and purchase, costing millions. Airline companies are generally

School Dynamics, Classroom Environments, And Teaching...
My field experience was at Port Chester High School and Preston High School. During my

At Port Chester High School, I observed an 11 grade US History class with Mrs. Sandoval. The
classroom contained 22 students. Mrs. Sandoval was patient and seemed to motivate her
students. She was very organized and made sure that every student was engaged and remained on
task. What really impressed me about the class was her easy rapport with the students. Mrs.
Sandoval explained to me that a goal she sets for herself as an educator is to build the student
teacher interrelationship, established on trust and fairness. According to Sadker and Zittleman
(2013), often the successful teachers are the ones that enjoy managing and motivating people and
are often found to have a pretty good sense of humor. Mrs. Sandoval feels when she jokes around
or is playful with the students they respond better. She feels that it creates a more comfortable
learning environment. As per her students, she is viewed as the cool teacher , because of this they
often try not to disappoint her. In essence, she is able to deliver the lesson and still maintain a high
level of accountability.
At Preston High School, I observed Mr. Carneiro s 10th grade Global History 2 class. The

Poetry Analysis Thanks By Yusef Kounyakaa
Nicholas Nava
Mr. Coogan
AP Lang 6
22 November 2017
Poetry Essay Beauty is a subjective idea that focuses on the characteristics preferable to a single
species that gives an advantage over another and at the cost of another species survival. Humans
have created astounding empires with beautiful cities and monuments because they were the most
progressive species that are able to do so because of their capacity for violence. Some empires fear
for their survival, so they must eliminate any threat whether it be humans or other animals. The
poem, Thanks by Yusef Komunyakaa, it symbolizes how humans can become single minded only
driven by their own personal desires at the sake of anyone else. Humans naturally commit ugly
atrocities to progress their own beauty, or at least idea of, and they instinctively oppose nature
because mankind is the dark side of nature. The poem describes the life of a man during the
Vietnam War, a conflict involving the United States and local Vietnamese who supported a
communist regime, and how unexplainable sporadic events saved his life. He gives thanks to an
unknown force that saves his life multiple times throughout his tour in Vietnam because the
instances are what some people consider luck and others and act of a higher being or deity.
Throughout the poem he expresses his gratitude towards the entity that watches over him but later
he questions the existence of a god because why would one allow there to be a war in the first
place and then send

Peter And Peter In The Gospels Of Matthew And Mark
Peter, one of the most important disciples in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, is portrayed as
Jesus acquaintance and pupil; as well as one of Jesus most important followers. Both of the
Gospels seem to portray Peter in similar ways, yet they draw different images of the disciple. In
the Gospel of Matthew, Peter has a much larger appearance in the teachings of Jesusand becomes
more significant to Jesus throughout the Christian doctrine. However, in Mark, the author portrays
Peter as a much lesser character in the life of Jesus and even leaves Peter out of some of the stories
till the end of the book. Each Gospelportrays a slightly different picture of Peter s personality and
role.
Peter is introduced as one of the first followers of Jesus in both Matthew 4:18 and Mark 1:16.
Both passages seem to describe Jesus discussion verbatim. Peter, also known as Simon, was with
his brother and spoke with Jesus. Jesus simply told them, Follow me and I will make you fish for
the people (Matthew 4.19, Mark 1.17). Peter and his brother merely replied, And immediately they
left their nets and followed him (4.20, 1.18). Peter and his brother were fishermen, which could
cause them to either be prosperous or not. This passage portrays Peter and his brother as extremely
dedicated to their Lord from the beginning because each of them abandons ... Show more content on

In other words, what the disciples did not understand; while Matthew focuses on Peter s spiritual
gains, or what the disciples learned. Matthew also portrays Peter in an abrogating way. For
instance, when Jesus asks Peter why he puts forth doubt in his leader in 14:31 Matthew is
portraying him as someone who doubts his leader, who is almighty and powerful. Jesus does not
question Peter s faith in Him in Mark. However, Jesus presents some positive light in Matthew as

Character Analysis Of A Separate Peace
Separating Peace Character By Character
A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of high school boys in a private college
preparatory school named Devon. Most of Devon s students want, have, and search for peace
throughout their time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and
discovers their own peace. Each character has found or withheld a certain peace, in real life. Each
separate peace is exposed throughout fatal or cheerful events. The words separate and peace
represent a variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe
author John Knowles chose this title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace.

He was always fully at peace there and did not care what the others thought about that. There are
so many people who love to be outside just to be there and admire the scene. I completely relate,
especially during the summer.
During the times that I was spending my time alone I felt completely friendless and without
acquaintances. I eventually became used to it and it was not so bad. When I did end up in a
group like Leper did with Gene, Finny, Chet, and Bobby, I felt better about myself. I also met a
new girl in my grade who was always by herself. I felt bad and began to talk to her. She would
not force herself on anyone and was really quiet and shy and would stay by herself if needs be.
She was really excited to make new friends and we hit it right off. A body can be peaceful, being
alone to revel in their own version of entertainment, but still with a group of pals. This is one
specific peace that can fill a person. There are so many more and a couple of other categories were
demonstrated through the writing, each showing in a different main character.
The title does not necessarily stand just for being happy when alone. It can also be interpreted to
being a peace if being talkative, surrounded by close buddies, having healthy, silly, crazy
relationships with everyone, and doing the possible and anything off the beaten path (such as
breaking the rules and jumping out of a tree). In the text there is one constantly

Theme Of Fate In No Country For Old Men
Fate or Free Will in No Country for Old Men
Throughout the entire movie No Country for Old Men there is a very strong theme of the
juxtaposition of fate and free will. There is endless emphasis on the decisions that characters make,
and how their decisions will ultimately affect their lives. All the characters are presented with
situations where their choice plays a role in their fate. In No Country for Old Men, the fate of
characters is determined by their actions and choices.
The first scene of the movie is set in a police station. An officer who had just apprehended Anton
Chigurh, says No worries sir, I ve got it under control over the phone. Moments after, the police
officer is dead on the floor after being strangled by Chigurh. Some people might claim that the
death of this officer was predetermined and that there was nothing he could do to prevent
himself from coming across a psychopathic killer like Anton Chigurh. However, his choice to
pursue a career as a police officer put him at a greater risk. It is important to realize that his
choices brought him to his death. In the scene of the movie, the police officer also has his back
towards Chigurh who is sitting on a bench with no restraints other than his handcuffs. The officer
s choice to turn his back to a criminal, and not properly restrain said criminal is his choice. All the
choices he made leading up to his death were the cause of his death. If he had chosen a different
career path, he would have had a much

A Crumbling Nation Essay
For those who do not know much about the Soviet Union, or those intrigued by the almighty
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), the history of the collapse of the Soviet Union is

as to how it could potentially have sustained longer than it did by the Soviet elite. A dramatic

the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union. During this time, the Arabs and the Israelis
went to war; because of this, an oil embargo was put forth and prices skyrocketed. Many
countries and nations around the world were struggling to make do on little to no oil, including
the two world superpowers. Tough times were had by all during this time during the Brezhnev

thousands were losing jobs and sinking more and more into financial woes, the Soviets struck oil
in Siberia. A quick shift took place, putting the Soviet Union as the main oil exporter. The strike of

Moonwalk Paintings
The first painting that caught my attention was Moonwalk made in 1987 by Andy Warhol. This
painting was one of Andy Warhol s final work. There are several versions of this painting, a

sun is reflecting off of the astronaut and the flag. The pink version gives a feeling of warmth like
some sort of heat signature is appearing off of the painting itself. The painting gives off a an

Ever since then, I knew I wanted to help people with financial trouble, which is why I enrolled in Business Academy at New Market Skills Center. As I have been studying there, I have picked up a myriad of skills I can use in the real world. I help with multiple blood drives and lead tours around the campus every week. But the most important skill I ve picked up in my short time at New Market is how to control and budget your money, which I feel is a skill everybody needs, but not everyone has this crucial skill. With that mindset I have decided that I want to pursue a career in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I was observing there, I got to experience a normal day as a bank teller and got to have a one on one conversation with Robert Hoffman, a financial advisor. The thing that stuck out the most while talking to Mr. Hoffman was how he explained his job, Most Americans don t understand finances. Financial planning is much like a GPS, You need to know where you are and where want to be, it s my job to tell you how to get there (Hoffman). What he said stuck to me not only because he explained his job so simply but also because he s passionate about his job and was excited that I m interested in doing what he does. Also while shadowing, I got the chance to interview a member consultant, Laura Grunenfelder. When I asked about her typical day, she said A typical day for me is making sure my team has the tools they need to complete their job, making sure we ve satisfied our customers expectations and keeping the branch safe and secure (Grunenfelder). When I asked about what technology is used she said Computers are so important to being a teller. If the system crashes, it slows us down a lot. • 4. Intimate Partner Violence Problem Statement Problem Statement Around the world, one in every three women has been coerced into having intercourse, beaten, or abused during some point in her lifetime (Domestic Violence Statistics, 2015). The topic that will be studied with the paper is intimate partner violence or another term that can be used is domestic violence. Domestic violence or intimate partner violence is the systematic pattern or control or power perpetuated by one partner against another (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, n.d.). Throughout the paper the term domestic violence and intimate violence will be used interchangeably. The misconception is that domestic violence or intimate partner violence is only between two people in a romantic relationship, but this is not so. Domestic violence includes, but is not limited to child abuse, elder and vulnerable adult abuse, spousal or partner abuse, and sibling violence (Can Fam Physician, 1999). This behavior can include but is not limited to sexual assault, intimidation, and physical assault (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, n.d.). Reports from 10 countries have shown that somewhere between 55 and 95 percent of women who experience physical abuse by a partner had never contacted the police, shelters, or other organizations for help (Domestic Violence Statistics, 2015). Intimate partner violence or also known as domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women including thefts, rapes, and car accidents combined (Domestic Violence ... • 5. Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s The Heart Of Darkness Ally Jones Professor Smith English 1302 November 18, 2014 Female Roles in Joseph Conrad s the Heart of Darkness: In regards to Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, many literature reviews focus on the motifs of Imperialism, the symbolism of darkness and fog, or the aspect of racism in Conrad s work. During the era which Conrad wrote, England was going through the Victorian Era, which was marked by a shift in views on morality. The term Victorian morality is used today to describe values which adopt a social code of conduct in a restrictive way, such as views on sexual restraint and a low tolerance of crime (Sanders, 2). The Victorian era saw social issues such as child labor and prostitution become issues which influenced societal views on the roles of women in British society (Sanders, 10). These social norms shaped men s views on women in general, giving rise to the underlining perceptions of female purity and the role of women as homemakers. This essay will examine the role that societal views on women in the 19th century had on Conrad s portrayal of women by the analysis of four sets of minor characters in his book, Marlow s aunt, the two women knitting outside of the office, The Intended (Kurtz fiancГ©), and Kurtz mistress. Social exclusion became a popular topic among academics debating such topics as poverty and unemployment. Social exclusion of women is the lack of social integration and power (Young, 1159). North American Craton Research Papers North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent, makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to the earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of years ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction zones, slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to their size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction, sedimentation, and continental collision. The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually formed into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform were later shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions in which they became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of groundwater slowly dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on earth with over 346 miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places like the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as karst topographies. There are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but, more predominantly at the surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for example. The gradual uplift of the Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several sedimentary layers in this region, beginning around ~100 million years ago. • 10. Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose... The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life. Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another sounds as of bare feet upon the floor! Yes there is risk to confidentiality when conducting online counseling. Online counseling does not guaranty discretion there are security breaches and there as well as other security measures that have not been thought of to help keep and protect privacy (Coleman, 2000). Another breach that could occur as far as confidentiality when conducting on line counseling is breach in data, WIFI and or secure networks, like using public computers and or public non secure WIFI. Sinclair Ross s short story, The Painted Door , deals with the growing dissatisfaction and loneliness of a farmer s wife, Ann, who feels alone as her husband deals with the harsh conditions of the environment. This story demonstrates how deeply communication can affect a marriage, be it bad or good. One of the most fundamental elements of a healthy relationship is communication. Lack of communication in a relationship can result to severe consequences. Irrespective of the kind of relationship, lack of communication magnifies issues in a relationship undermining the very foundation of the relationship. The success of any relationship relies on one s ability to communicate well. Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other. John is a simple farmer who thinks the only way he can please his wife, is by working all day to earn money for her. However, Ann would prefer he spend more time with her. Their relationship is stressed even further when Ann is left at home alone with nothing to think about but their relationship because John has to go to his father s house. The terrible snow storm accentuates Ann s feelings of loneliness and despair. These feelings lead Ann to seek comfort and companionship from Steven, the attractive friend of her husband, John, thus leading to John s suicide. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Difference Between Hiring A Professional Graphic Design Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person doesn t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business and its values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the attention of the viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product or service, yet many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more than a symbol of the company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this. With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with the customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they look, and a professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the customer with information about the company. Although these may not seem of importance to the average person, technical aspects such as bleeding and cropping do play a role in the customer s perception of the brand. They don t realize this, but it is truly the case. Our team of graphic designers is familiar with these and other techniques and use them where appropriate to convey the desired message. Most importantly, graphic design involves more than creating a logo. Layout and production design along ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Divine Command Theory And Natural Law Theory Religion has always been a central part of human history, tracing back to the earliest known records in human existence. From the ancient Egyptians to the Mayans, from the Celts to the Greeks and Romans, from Hinduism to Judaism to Catholicism, religion has always been the center of human culture. Recent studies have suggested that religionwas centered on advanced alien races whose technology was misunderstood. However, one thing is undeniable, these age old systems of belief and worship of a higher being or deity were, in a sense, their own moral systems, two of which are Divine Command Theory and Natural Law Theory. These two systems, among others, once guided and advised ancient humans in moral judgements. Divine Command Theory is a proposed relationship between moral correctness and the higher deity s commands, henceforth the deity will be called god. This situation is elaborated upon in a dialogue between Socrates and Euthyphro, in where Socrates asks Euthyphro what it means to be pious or to be morally right. After failed attempts to answer this, Socrates proposes two options to this question that is known as the Euthyphro Dilemma, Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious? Or is it pious because it is loved by the gods? (text). In other words, is the pious thing inherently pious (a.k.a morally right) and therefore is loved by the gods, or is being loved by the gods what causes something to be morally right. After these patterns are identified and described through early analysis of field notes, checklists become more appropriate and context sensitive. Focused observation then is used at later stages of the study, usually to see, for example, if analytic themes explain behavior and relationships over a long time or in a variety of settings. Observation is a fundamental and highly important method in all qualitative inquiry. It is used to discover complex interactions in natural social settings. Even in studies using in depth interviews, observation plays an important role as the researcher notes the interviewee s body language and affect in addition to her words. It is, however, a method that requires a great deal of the researcher. Discomfort, uncomfortable ethical dilemmas and even danger, the difficulty of managing a relatively unobtrusive role, and the challenge of identifying the big picture while finely observing huge amounts of fast moving and complex behavior are just a few of the challenges. If anything it made me more confused because it went back in time, then it came back to the present and it was confusing what time period we were in at the moment. A good part of the book was when Parvaneh was becoming friends with Ove because he needed to get out of his daily routine. Ove needed someone to shake up the life he had been living for many years. Personally, I would read another book by Fredrik Backman because the book was still very well written. I also could understand the book, for the most part. To continue, this book would be better read by adults because the humor was more guided to that age group. Also, this book is still relevant today because people do not live forever. We have to learn to move on from the bad times just like Ove did. When a loved one dies we feel grief, but like Ove we use the people around us to begin to feel better about what happened to us. Upon a successful victory of the presidency, Herbert Hoover didn t have a doubt that the United States would soon witness the day when poverty was exterminated. Then, in a moment of what seemed to be triumph, everything collapsed in the U.S. With the stock market crashing in 1929, it set off a chain of events that catapulted the U.S. into the longest and deepest economic crisis it had ever seen. It is far too easy to put the blame of the Great Depressionon one event, but when there is poor investing over time with the lack of government programs and a drop in consumer purchasing power due to the market collapse it can delay the process of fixing the economy for future leaders. It is far too simple to view the stock market crash as the only cause of the Great Depression. A fit economy can be revived from such devastation. Long term causes sent the nation into a downward slope of despair. American firms acquired substantial profits during the 1920s and immediately reinvested most of the funds into expansion. By 1929, companies had come to the bubble point. Workers couldn t continue to help further expansion, so a slowdown was unpreventable. While corporate profits soared and wages improved over time, so did the spread of the distribution of wealth. The richest people of American had over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Language, Language And Language Have you ever listened to someone from another country speak English? A lot of times, people speaking a second language will pronounce things a little differently than native speakers, or they will talk at a different rhythm. Languages have their own pace, places where you expect people to pause or speed up or articulate more clearly. We call this part of language an accent. People speaking a secondary language may have a foreign accent, while those speaking a native tongue have a local accent. Musicis a lot like this. Musical rhythms tend to have natural accents, emphases on certain notes within a meter. Just like fitting in with a new culture requires learning their accent, accents are essential to understand musical conversation. Metric Accents Accents in music can appear in a few basic forms. Let s start with the simplest. In many languages, parts of speech contain natural accents. In Spanish for example, the last syllable is naturally emphasized in most words. Music is the same in that there are natural accents within every score. Every musical composition is divided into measures, units of a set number of beats, and certain beats naturally carry more emphasis than others. The most important is the downbeat, the first beat of a measure. The downbeat is always naturally accented, so there is no need to provide an accent mark over it. We call an accent that occurs naturally in a measure a metric accent. In most Western music, the first and third beats have metric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Implications Of Prospect Theory The aspects that prospect theory takes into account and the expected utility doesn t, are emphasis on low probability events and protective willingness, which means greater risk aversion for precautionary decisions under risk (Kusev, P., van Schaik, P., Ayton, P., Dent, J. Chater, N. 2009). These are called heuristics and biases in decision making. In this part, other heuristics and biases of framing of the problem, gambler s fallacy and overconfidence will be discussed in depth with respective example and ACAR of its significance on process of making decisions. Firstly, the bias is framing of the problem. When people frame the problem in different ways, it will result in different decision. The example is observed when the description of options in terms of gains (positive frame) rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically different choices (Gonzalez, C., Dana, J., Koshino, H. Just, M. 2005). This takes an important place in business decision making. ACAR is made following. Frame (2012) outlines that framing is the first step when people make decisions. Russo and Schoemaker (1989) proves that this bias affects the recognition and response to problems by providing the boundaries (what will be considered part of the choice set), reference points (elements used to determine success and failure), and yardsticks (how the outcomes are measured) . Nevertheless, different people can have different framing of the problem so if they exchange thoughts, outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Comparing Poems My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover TITLE Robert Browning s poems, My Last Duchess ( MLD ) and Porphyria s Lover ( PL ) take the form of dramatic monologues and are striking examples of literature written in the Victorian era. Due to their form, a great interaction is developed between the reader and narrator, with an additional oratory effect; this allows the audience to understand a situation less ambiguously through features such as tone. Therefore, Browning is able to present male and female characters more completely. Furthermore, the poems accurately convey gender inequality present in Victorian society, hinting at the lack of liberties given to women. In MLD, Browning employs the Duke as narrator, developing the reader s perception of his personality through use of language and literary devices. As a result, the Duke inadvertently portrays himself as egocentric, proprietorial and at times arrogant, psychotic and paranoid. He refers to the painting of his late wife as my last Duchess , with the possessive pronoun my indicating the Duchess is just another of his possessions. This element of the Duke s ... Consequently, the reliability of the narrator becomes questionable. This is amplified in MLD, where the Duke s proud nature possibly hinders the truth. In PL, Browning repetitively attempts to depict Porphyria s lover as innocent, while in reality the murder was manic and psychotic. As a result, uncertainty is created throughout PL, as such a narrator may be deceptive. So, the reader s perception of Porphyria s lover might be incorrect, especially during his period of euphoria when Porphyria appears to give herself up to him. This unreliability acts as another way for Browning to portray the male characters, as a misleading narrator will introduce a whole range of negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington, but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There s something to be said when the main characters of a novel don t even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and Father weren t the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their family, including Little Girl who would join Mother s family at the end of the tale, were the only ones who were not named. That s because it s an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol for the typical middle class American family during the ProgressiveEra. However, this is not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There s a reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriagebetween the two eras before one is completed.
