A Historical Views Of Leadership
Part III Historical Views of Leadership
Modern attempts to understand leadership often ignore the considerable insights provided by great
figures of the past.
Bernard M. Bass demonstrates that leadership was a recognized phenomenon from the emergence
of civilization.
Sampling of thinking about leadership from different perspectives as well as from various time
periods and cultures will be given.
All voices used, highlight the key issues identified by Spitzberg: the importance of the leader, the
recruitment of leaders, the process of leadership, and the relationship between leaders and followers.
J. Thomas Wren incorporates many different philosophers views in order to demonstrate that
leaders differed greatly in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greeks admired and wanted heroic leaders that had 1. justice and judgment (Agamemnon), 2.
wisdom and counsel (Nestor), 3. shrewdness and cunning (Odysseus), and 4. valor and activism
(Achilles).
Machiavelli believed that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct,
or more uncertain in its success, than to lead in the introduction of a new order of things. o He
believes that leaders needed steadiness, firmness, and concern for the maintenance of authority,
power, and order in government.
Hegel s (1830) Philosophy of Mind argues that by first serving as a follower, a leader subsequently
can best understand his followers, which people still believe today.
10 The Hero As King Thomas Carlyle
Kingship is a form of heroism.
A King is the commander over Men subordinates must loyally surrender themselves to their King.
A King commands over its people to furnish them with constant practical teaching, and to tell them
what they are to do.
Carlyle believes that putting the Ablest Man in each country in a supreme place and loyally respect
him will lead to a perfect government.
People will believe that what the Ablest Man tells them to do will be the wisest and the fittest. o
However, most people cannot do this. They cannot entrust everything to one person, they need
evidence and structure.

The Comfort Of Strangers Essay
The extract from Ian McEwan s novel The Comfort of Strangers tells the story of Robert and his
distant relationship with his family. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him
and his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them.
During their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them
play dress up with their mothers belongings. The extract follows a sequence of events: the first is
dress up in the early afternoon, then, clean up in the late afternoon, followed by dinner. In this
extract, Ian McEwandisplays Robert s distant relationship with his sisters, father, and mother by
demonstrating the unreliability of appearances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with
their father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep
into my mind, (McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked
deep into [Robert s] mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father
having immense, almost supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan
demonstrates the father s power by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced
represents a timid and quick action which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene.
On the other hand, looked represents a more authoritative and attention demanding action
performed by the father, which causes a shift of tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all
about the sisters, making Robert in some ways invisible, but now with the father looking
directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative away from Eva and Maria as Robert
gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift from the fun and lighthearted
tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious tone when introducing
the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me, Robert, what
have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue in the
extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and him
due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the
question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power.
The father s knowledge of Robert s naГЇvetГ© that leads Robert to think

My Service Learning With Child Protective Services ( Cps )
First Impressions Before taking this class or completing my service learning with Child
Protective Services (CPS), I really had not had any experience with CPS. I just made the
assumption that the agency was biased and flawed based on the experiences other people had
with CPS. I also did not think it would be a place that I would want to work because I did not want
to work with children, although now I realize that was a really unfair opinion I had of the agency. I
also thought a lot of people abused the service because I had heard a lot of stories of people calling
CPS on each other out of spite. After learning about CPS and being able to observe what the
agency does, I do realize the agency is not what I thought it was. I also realize... Show more content

Although my first day in the office was uneventful I was looking forward to going back, because
I was excited to see what other types of tasks Ms. Green has to carry out. My first day was my only
day in the office though, after a while Ms. Green stopped responding to my emails.
From my understanding it was not Ms. Green who was avoiding me, it was the agency
preventing her from communicating with not only me, but with other families who she could
have been working with. I became so frustrated and disappointed that I was getting gypped from
the service learning portion of class. I also imagine the families she was working with were
frustrated as well because they were stuck in a sort of limbo. Even though I was not able to go
back to the CPS office and complete any more hours there, I did get the opportunity to observe a
case in court. Which definitely made me place some faith back into the agency, it made everything
we learned in class click together for me. In particular there were some terms that came up in court
that I remember discussing in class, such as family reunification, safe and stable housing, and the
family service plan. I really felt like I was able to fully understand what was happening during the
hearing because we covered so much in class. This case involved three children who were currently
living in foster care with a family, and their parents who were trying to get the three children
returned to them. I did not anticipate how emotionally

This article is about a custom made Louboutin shoe made to celebrate Disney s re release of the
famous story Cinderella on DVD and Blu ray in the autumn of 2012. The shoe is embellished with
crystal butterflies and has a sheer lace design with the iconic Louboutin red sole.
I had the idea of a custom shoe for my version of Cinderella. The glass slipper in Perrault s version
was one of a kind and that s the reason that we had a happily ever after. I would like to preserve
that in my paper but we no longer have one of a kind shoes. I believe it was fate that when I

Captain Honore Dialectical Journal
Port des Cannes, France Marci awoke at dawn, ready to jump back into life and sail down the
coast to Spain. She laid out the map, tracing the coastline and studying the inlets where the boat
would seek harbor. She sat one last time, on the balcony of her room at the Majestic, overlooking
the beach and glanced out at the harbor. She sipped her espresso, pensive about Javier. Her jaw
quivered ever so slightly as she said her final goodbyes. Time to join the living. Enough grieving!
She had wept the reverent tears of a forlorn wife. Now, there was a new man waiting in the folds
of the curtains. Someone that made her feel alive again after feeling so old, for so very long. He

the old seaman s way of navigating piloting with chart, parallel rules and dividers. He used a
hand bearing compass, pointed at a lighthouse or some other landmark and looked across the
lubber s line into the bowl, taking bearings of two or more objects, and reading the direction or
bearing of that object, off of the compass. Then, he plotted them onto his chart. Where the lines

Comparison Between Edinburgh And France
3.0Comparison between Edinburgh and France
The main reason for the exchange year is to engage yourself with the culture and history of the city
that you have chosen and for me it was Edinburgh. I love this city because it is the perfect example
of a blend of medieval architecture, nature and modernity. Strolling around the city, you can see its
gothic style architecture and other 16th century monuments around the city. While walking the
streets of Royal Mile, we can see the gorgeous gothic style St Giles Cathedral, streets filled with
small alleys that are like secret chambers to the hidden world and the magnificent Edinburgh Castle
at the Castle Hill. From the castle, one could view the Princess Street, one of the busiest and

I have never seen Arthur Seat and the Meadows empty. There are always people who would jog,
hike or cycle near Arthur Seat and also there must be people jogging, playing tennis, games or
enjoying the great weather (if possible) at the Meadows when it is sunny.
Furthermore, one of the important differences between in France and Edinburgh is the diversity
of people that exist here. There are a lot of people who comes from different ethnic background
and nationalities in Edinburgh. There are more than 10000 non European students in Edinburgh.
This contributes to the heterogeneity of the city. It made me have the sense of belonging in this
city and not felt foreign or as an outsider. Apart from that, in Edinburgh alone we have more than
200 Malaysians studying here. This facilitated me in adapting in Edinburgh. However, in Le
Havre, there was lack of diversity making me felt always a foreigner in its homogenous society. It
took more time for me to adapt with the French society even though I am able to speak their
language. I have always felt being judged by the people surrounding me while I was walking
around France.
It is undeniable that France is the location to taste the best cuisine in the world. However, it is
noteworthy to mention that Edinburgh has its own charm in terms of the food. There is a varied
choice of food here in Edinburgh from the Scottish traditional cuisine (haggis), fish and chips, the
English breakfast to other cuisines coming from all around the

Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins
Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution
of power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society
together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power
range from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be
served in a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is
something that we perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many
intricacies in regard to power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight
by Randall Collins, the author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power
most effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to
giv(e) in on something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a
mother and child. Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has
promised his mother that he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let
him go and play, assuring her that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The
mother concedes, and the child is happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and
losses, the mother has gained points with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores
will still be done, only a few hours later. Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is
evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in
what he does, and in letting her son go she has not only made him happy but is also asserting her
power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most effectively realized her power by knowing when to
sacrifice something that is of lesser importance while gaining more long term benefits. Another way
that power may be asserted is by the influences of certain situations, namely

A Brief Note On John Snow As A Surgeon And A Doctor
19th Century
John Snow was a qualified as a surgeon and a doctor in 1838. Dr Snow was interested in how
cholera spread through drinking water and observed that people who drank water and drank
water from the one company was most likely to come across this disease than the people who do
not drink that company s water. Dr Snow planned a map which he noted all the cases of cholera
and then realised that all the people who were ill were getting their water from the same and only

the broad street water pump, so he went to the broad street water pump and took the handle of the

Hartford, City That Has Developed Into A Concentric Zone...
Hartford, CT is a well known city that has developed into a concentric zone fashion. A concentric
zone consists of five zones; Central Business District, Transitional Zone, Working Class Zone,
Residential Zone, and the Commuter Zone. Each zone consists of different qualities that can all be
found in Hartford. Hartford is very similar to Chicago based on the description of Chicago given by
Dr. Burgess. Just like Chicago, Hartford is also a city that has a high crimerate.
The first zone is the Central Business District. This zone is a majority of non residential buildings
and has an emphasis on business and commerce. Downtown Hartford would be considered a
central business district. This zone also has a population of workers that commute from different
towns to get to work and even from another state. In downtown Hartford, there are many popular
businesses, clubs and restaurants that attract people and customers. Examples of these business
include The Hartford Courant, AETNA and even Capital Community College. Popular restaurants
and attractions include Black eyed Sally s, Black Bear Saloon and Club NV which is a popular
nightclub. The State Capitol is also located in Downtown Hartford. Some of the people who work
in downtown Hartford live in other towns like Windsor or Bloomfield while others may travel from
Springfield, Massachusetts.

An Investigation into How the British could have achieved victory in the American War of

The American War of Independence was perhaps the first colonial war of independence during the
period of European dominance across the globe. Great Britain, a relatively new country with a
stable, democratic government, established an enormous trading empire which stretched from
North America to East India and was the greatest superpower on Earth. It came to be so, firstly by
its highly effective navy which allowed it to transport goods and defeat other rival fleets. Its

It is believed she gave word to Paul Revere that the British were planning on destroying the
armouries at Lexington and Concord and thus he spread the famous line of The British are
coming! Many British Generals serving throughout the French Indian War began to sympathize
with the colonists who fought alongside the British. This meant that many of the experienced and
greatest of British Generals, including Gage himself, did not believe that war was the right option
and did not believe in the British cause. So to prevent the catastrophes that Gage caused during
the first months of the War, the British should have given the position to a General who was both
capable but also sensible. Historians believe that if General Charles Cornwallis had of served in
his stead then the early British disasters could have been avoided and the colonists would have been
crushed in the first few months. Cornwallis was a competent commander, but when he inherited his
Lordship, he often voted against heavy taxation of the colonies. Many blame him for the British
defeat of the War because of his surrender at Yorktown but with his intervention at an earlier date,
such a competent commander could have increased the odds of the British winning the war.

Adderall Vs Ginseng
Ginseng is a common herbal remedy used to boost energy. There are three main species of
Ginseng including Oriental, Siberian, and American, however, all species have the common
side effects of reduced stress, improved vitality, and improved immune system. Subsequently,
there are also many alternatives that are prescription remedies for lack of energy, one of which
being Adderall. Adderall, also known by its generic name and drug classification as
amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, is generally used to treat narcolepsy and attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), however, is also less popularly used as an energy
booster. Although both of the drugs are similar in function, they are very different when
compared and contrasted. While both drugs are similar in utility, their administration and
dosage forms vary. Being that Ginseng is available in both herb and root form, it can be
transformed to be administered in several different ways. For example, for a more preferred and
natural administration, Ginseng can easily be brewed, chewed, swallowed, or stewed to be

Reality, as people often point out, is an ongoing, live soap opera in which the cast and roles
depend on perspective and the storyline on history. Literature, on the other hand, boasts a world
of magic and possibility. It exists as an interactive universe where a story can go in one direction
and a thousand directions all at once. Such a world is made possible by Intertextuality, the use
of old, malleable literature to create new literature by either alluding to the former to bring to
light a revelatory hidden message or exploring the consequences of a twist on a classic. William
Golding s Lord of The Flies, Stephanie Meyer s The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, and ABC
Family s Once Upon A Time are a few examples of works that have helped me gain a better
understanding of Intertextuality and the effect of its use. Intertextuality allows works and their
essences to remain timeless. Whereas a classic is restricted to the words included on the pages,
newer books have the freedom to expand the life altering concepts presented in these classics and
make them relevant to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ABC Family s popular T.V. show, Once Upon A Time, portrays the story of a town called
Storybrooke where fairytale characters are imprisoned without their memories from the enchanted
forest but with one hope, the Savior, Emma Swan. As can be noticed, the show, using the principle
of Intertextuality, reinvents the common understanding of Fairytale Land and the essence of each
intertwined story but maintains each character s basic, recognizable identity. In fact, one of the
episodes is an adaptation of the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk in which Jack is actually female,
and climbs up the stalk with an army to murder the giants but ultimately dies of blood loss. This
deviation forces the reader to ponder over the significance of Jack living when a man but dying
when a

How Did Israel s Food Rations Contribute To The Creation...
THE DIVISION OF ISRAEL
Under the reign of Solomon, Israel reached great economic and political heights along with its
security and prosperity. Solomon was renowned for his wisdom, wealth and building projects, but
with these projects came heavy taxes and harsh labour on his people. After his death, the kingdom
was divided into two separate kingdoms, north and south. The biblical record accounts for the
division as a consequence for him staying from God, but his tax and labour laws and new
administrative districts also lead to friction within his people. The immature leader that followed
him amplified this friction.
One of the contributing factors to the division was the heavy tax imposed on the people. This
came in the form of food rations for both the Kings court. The writer of kings records the
massive daily provisions of the king s palace, which included milled flour and livestock. The 12
new administrative provided these rations monthly. This caused major angst within the country as
Judah was excluded from providing rations. Along with providing rations for Solomon, the people
had to supply wheat and olive oil for the King Hiram of Tyre, who provided timber for the Temple
of the Lord. These heavy taxes cause an extensive burden of the realm and caused major fractures
on the kingdom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused discontent amongst the Israelites and contributed to the division of the kingdom. These
districts ignored the traditional boundaries created by Moses. The new districts all Israel didn t
include Judah, which showed how Judah and Israel were regarded as two separate entities by the
royal administration (Ahroni). This meant Judah was excluded from the mandatory tax asll citizens
had to pay for being part of all Israel . These new districts and the administration added tension to

Gender In The Color Purple
The overarching trauma of this novel is highlighted by Celie s relationship with Shug Avery.
Though the brutality continues, Celie still manages to find an escape allowing her to come
closer to the line of thriving. For Celie her first notion of Shug comes from her abusive husband
s obsession with the singer. Her growing sense of imagination and curiosity began to develop a
more nuanced character. The reader is given a new looking at the character; Celie crosses the
threshold of survival to thriving only for a few fleeting seconds. Our first encounter of this
diminishing joy unfortunately encapsulated a well rounded sense of author s purpose. And then
I think about Shug Avery. I know what he doing to be done to Shug Avery and maybe she like it.
I put my arm around him (Walker, 12). There are several key elements that the author has
intentionally created. The first being the motif of sex, for Celie sex has been a brutal massacring
for her body, which resulted in two heartbreaking children. While these children were taken from
her and killed, Walker highlights the wedding night sex scene shifting from brutal to sad. The
reader can clearly see that the idea of Shug is what allows Celie to escape from her horrid reality.
As Charmaine Eddy notes in his paper entitled Marking the body: the material dislocation of
gender in Alice Walker s The Color PurpleBecause Shug s picture has initiated lesbian sexual desire
in Celie, this imitation must be seen as a transvestism, a drag

Super Bowl Stereotypes
Methodology Sample of Super Bowl commercials The Super Bowl commercials were content
analyzed for the year 2018. Consequently, our population consisted of everybody we endeavored
to comment on in Super Bowl 2018 commercials, which included white men and women as well
as men and women of color. Our sample comprised 37 commercials out of the 81 Super Bowl
commercials that aired in 2018. Of the 37 commercials, there were 59 central characters. Out of
those 59 central characters, 43 of the characters were male and 16 were female. Furthermore, we
did not observe any gender queer or gender binary, therefore our group resorted to not code for
those categories. It is important to note that our coding exposed that 72% of the central characters
were white males (20.9% males of color). Likewise, out of the same 39 Super Bowl 2018
commercials, 27%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, everyone in the class contributed to the coding. In addition, there were two different
groups with our professor acting as the commonality between the two groups. Another essential
point was that everyone in our class had to vote if someone disagreed on the central characters.
Accordingly, everything discussed as a group led to valuable insight as to how the end results
were later determined. In the commercials, we looked specifically for the central characters and
the type of stereotype the central character fell into if any. Also, the commercials were coded as
montage if no one in the class could tell what stereotype the central character was classified in, or
if there were too many central characters to count. Our study categorizes a widespread list of
female and male stereotypes which have been extensively used in prior research to examine
gender (or racial) stereotypes in print advertisements as seen below (Hatzithomas et al., 2016). See

Stockholm Syndrome
This documentary caught my attention right from the opening lines. People, in general, do not
like to admit when they are wrong, so when the narrator began by claiming that the entire set of
beliefs he had grown up with and lived his life by were wrong and untrue it made me stop and
consider how that would affect a person. To have your entire way of thinking be proven invalid
would be an unsettling situation to put it simply. I could not begin to imagine how that would feel,
but I tried to keep this thoughtin mind as I continued with the rest of the documentaryas it explored
complex ideas involving education, employment, and obedience. As someone who is pursuing a

rewind just to give my thoughts a second to catch up, and in that sense, the film fully
accomplished its goal. In discussing complicated ideas such as education, employment, and

Patriotism In The Anti-War Film Paths Of Glory
Patriotism is a bundle of conflict within itself. Although patriotism is a show of immense
support towards one country, it can be depicted wrongfully at times. In reference to that
statement, consider the drama/anti war film Paths of Glory, directed by none other than Stanley
Kubrick, famous for other films such as the film adaptation of Stephen King s The Shining,
2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange. Paths of Glory is a film where soldiers in
World War I refuse to execute an impossible attack, and their superior officers choose how to deal
with their cowardice, and is transcendently humane over other movies in comparison. In addition,
the film Paths of Glory criticizes acts of patriotism by depicting merciless, egomaniacal military
captains, commanders, and officers. However, it blatantly ignores acts of patriotism that achieve
results far beyond the normal expectation (even those of Kirk Douglas character, Colonel Dax, the
primary protagonist of the film), so the film s theme can blend in throughout the background of the
important events of the film. Patriotism is not something to be taken lightly, and the film Paths of

with that release date. However, even with the release date taken out of the question, the visual
items presented with the film (such as posters, possible merchandise, etc.) were given a very pro
war vibe to them. Even so, the marketing team associated with the film did very well in terms of

Alwar is defined as the one is who is immersed in the divine experience with God. There were 12
Alwars, among them were 11 men and 1 woman who lived during the 5th to the 9th century in the
Tamil speaking sector of South India. They wrote devotional songs and poetry on Vishnuand

it is important to note that these Alwars all came from different socioeconomic backgrounds. The
12 Alwars, also known as the Vaishnavite saints brought prominence in the Bhakti movement with
the poetry being the Nalayira Divya Prabandham (4000 songs). The names of the Alwars are:

Before time, in some presently incomprehensible way, God and His kingdom stood outside of any

Effective Control Capacity Of Administration
After strategies are planned and arrangements are made, management s essential assignment is to
make moves to guarantee that these arrangements are done, or, if conditions warrant, that the
arrangements are adjusted. This is the discriminating control capacity of administration. Also since
administration includes guiding the exercises of others, a real piece of the control capacity are
verifying other individuals do what ought to be done. In numerous circumstances, a control
framework manufactured around estimation and criticism is not attainable. Furthermore actually
when plausibility is not a restriction, utilization of an input situated control framework is
frequently a second rate result. Yet, great controls might be made and kept up utilizing different
procedures. In the event that all work forces dependably did what was best for the association,
control and even administration would not be required (Krajewski, 2007). However, clearly
people are once in a while incapable or unwilling to act in the association s best investment, and a
set of controls must be actualized to make preparations for undesirable conduct and to empower
alluring activities. One paramount class of issues against which control frameworks guard may be
called individual constraints. Individuals don t generally comprehend what is anticipated from
them or how they can best perform their employments, as they may fail to offer some imperative

Reviewing The Supreme Court Of Canada Case
Analyzing the Supreme Court of Canada Case:
Carter v. Canada (Attorney General) the Death with Dignity Case
The appellants Lee Carter, Hollis Johnson and Gloria Taylor joined with other appellants to
bring the civil claim which is against the prohibition on assisted suicide found in s. 14 and s. 241
(b) of the Criminal Code (Carter, para. 20). The same issue which was brought in Rodriguez v.
British Columbia 20 years ago was declared to be constitutional. In this case, ultimately Lee Carter
s appeals succeeded.
The Law Before the Ruling According to s. 14 and s. 214 (b) of the Canada Criminal Code, the
law criminalized the person who aids another person to commit suicide and it banned the death
inflicted on that person. In short, these provisions did not allow a person to seek a physician
assisted death, regardless of being suffered intolerably from a serious or incurable disease (Carter,
para.1).
Questions Before the Court
пЂWhether the Criminal Code provisions prohibiting physician assisted dying found in s. 241 (b)
violates the claimants rights to life, liberty and security (s.7) and rights to equal treatment (s. 15) of
the Charter (Carter, para.29, 40).
пЂWhether the prohibition is justified under s.1 of the Canadian Charter (Carter, para.2).

Tax considerations will need to be made with this strategy, as in the event the share of the property

Catcher In The Rye Symbolism Essay
Catcher in the Rye essay Essay question: Analyse how symbolism was used to develop the key
ideas in the written text. In the novel Catcher in the Rye , author J.D Salinger uses symbolism to
create and portray key idea to us as the readers. The key ideas he portrays are; Holden Caulfield
is the guardian of youth and that Holden is a broken record that no one wants to listen to.
Throughout the novel, author J.D Salinger often mentions a red hunting hat worn by Holden and
the way in which Holden wear is it backwards. Now to me this reminds me of a backstop in
baseball, the guy that stands behind the batter and catches what the bowler throws at him. I say
this because players in this position often wear their caps backwards. I feel as... Show more content

The book is him with the pieces glued back together, his record glued together, spinning and
making a noise that people want to hear, the noise he wants to make. This idea of Holden being
a broken record or someone that no one wants to listen is further portrayed throughout the book.
An example of this is in the hotel room when Holden is with a prostitute. Even though she is
getting paid she still doesn t want to just sit down and listen to Holden talk, she s not up there to
listen to a broken record. I feel that this moment in the book is where I see the two key ideas
Salinger is trying to portray finally link together. In this part of the book we have Holden in a
situation where he is meant to be doing adult things but instead all he wants to is talk because as
much as he wants to take part in these activities he can t bring himself to do it because he is that
catcher in the rye, the guardian of youth. At the same time he is once again being portrayed by
Salinger as a broken record because he wants to talk but the girl doesn t want to listen. Overall I
think that author J.D Salinger uses many different forms of symbolism such as the hunting hat,
the broken record and the description of Holden being the catcher in the rye to portray key ideas to
us the readers. These key ideas are; Holden Caulfield is the guardian of youth and Holden is a
broken record

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Z Waves
Terahertz (THz) waves, or T rays, refer to electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range of 0.1
10 THz. THz waves occupy the region between microwaves and the infrared, as shown in Figure
1.1. Until about two decades ago, when THz time domain spectroscopy technique was invented, the
THz spectrum had remained more or less unexplored and unutilized. However, the development of
ultrafast lasers and derivative techniques such as photocon¬ductive switching and sampling and
electro optic generation and detection in the 1980s made it feasible to study the THz waves.
Fig. 1.1: Position of terahertz spectrum (1 10 THz). This range is also known as the far infrared, or
sub millimeter range, and the lower limit is often extended down to 300 GHz (О» ... Show more

Investigating biological characteristics and dynamics using THz techniques has both advantages
and disadvantages. One of the most important advantages is the low energy of THz waves,
corresponding to a few meV, which is well below the ionization energies of atoms and molecules.
This means that we can study materials with THz waves without disturbing the system under
study, unless enough power is applied to cause a significant increase in temperature. The other
major advantage is that the characteristic energy of the hydrogen bond, which is the most
dominant bond in biological molecules, lies in the THz frequency range and, therefore, THz
waves can directly detect spectral features such as resonances and motions of molecules.
However, a serious disadvantage is the high absorption of THz waves by the water in which
biological molecules reside. This water absorption can mask the characteristic features of samples,
even though biological dynamics naturally occur in water. All of the above is some applications in
THz region, for more details and applications see

Social Inequality in Elderly Americans
Social Inequality in Elderly Americans
Elderly people (women and men age sixty five or older) (Macionis, 2005), Have many obstacles
to face as they grow older, many of these obstacles involve social inequality. Not only do the
elderly have to learn to deal with many forms of Ageism (the stereotyping and prejudice against
individuals or groups because of their age), some also have to deal with the fact that they do not
have enough savings or pension benefits to be self supporting, for most people over sixty five, the
major source of income is social security (Macionis, 2005). This forces many elderly Americans
back into the workforce to continue to earn money to support themselves and or spouses. Although

Choosing a long term care facility can be very difficult because of incidents of abuse and/or
neglect reported against care facilities can be overwhelming. For example in Ending Elder
Abuse: A family guide , Diane Sandell lists many elder abuse incidents from her files such as:
neglect of decubitis ulcers led to infection, sepsis, gangrene, and death. Facility failed to provide
necessary diabetic diet; improper insulin administration, insulin overdose; dehydration and
death. Resident left alone in chair in shower room fell, became paralyzed from neck down.
Many reports of pinching, rough handling, slapping, yelling, threats (2000). It is believed that
abuse is most likely to occur if the caregiver not only finds the work difficult but also (1) works
full time, (2) cares for young children, (3) is poor, (4) feels little affection for the older person,
(5) finds the elderly person very difficult, and (6) gets no support or help from others (Macionis,
2005). Although there is no excuse for abusing elderly Americans, it is still very prominent in
today s society. Diane Sandell explains in Ending Elder Abuse, that her 91 year old mother was
beaten by a long term care facility employee in the middle of the night for reasons unknown. It is
stated that her mother died 6 weeks after the incident, unable to recover mentally from the abuse
(2000).
In conclusion, elderly Americans face many obstacles as they grow in age, such as ageism,
workforce discrimination, poverty,

The British legal principles were violated when a principle was established in the hanging of a

Aboriginal people and forced removals across Australia. Ned Kelly who is an Irishmann who later

The Sneetches Analysis
When we think of prejudice, we often think of racism. However, racism and prejudice are not
interchangeable terms. Through the phrase power plus prejudice, we have learned that racism,
for example, can only be achieved with power. One can only be racist towards someone else if
he or she has the power to do so. Meaning, is this person white or black? If they re white, they
have power ergo can be racist. Throughout both Mixed Blood Stew by Jewell Parker Rhodes and
the story The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss, the concept of power plus prejudice is portrayed. The story
of The Sneetches offers an accurate portrayal of society today. In the story, we are told that there
are creatures living on an island called sneetches. Some are born with... Show more content on

Since Dr. Seuss uses strong words throughout the story, we can assume that the sneetches were
either privileged or not privileged and that there were truly only two options within their society.
However, at the end, when he uses positive word choice, we can assume that the sneetches living
as a whole society was the correct choice from the start. In the story Mixed Blood Stew, we are
given examples of miscegenation and how members of society with mixed race backgrounds are
victims of prejudice. Similarly to the sneetches without stars on their stomachs, mixed race
members of society are often looked at as lesser and not worthy of our time. However, we now
understand that no matter what background someone might have, we should always give them a
chance without judgement. In Mixed Blood Stew, many cultural references are made elaborating on
this point. The one that sticks out to me the most is the reference to Lucy, the oldest fossil found
that shows human characteristics. The author writes, Wasn t Lucy their mother too? (Rhodes) This
reference is meant to enforce the message that all humans come from similar fossils and should be
considered equal. The entirety of Mixed Blood Stew highlights the importance of recognizing that
all humans are equal regardless of racial background. In both stories, there is a similar issue
present. Generally speaking, this issue is targeting a

Those who practice behaviour therapy are called behaviourists and tend to look more at specific,
learned behaviours and how the environment has an impact on those behaviours. (2) They tend to
look for treatment outcomes that are objectively measurable. (3) Most behaviour therapists use
interventions, structured interviews, or different behavioural rating forms, these different
assesments are used so the therapist can determine exactly what the individuals problem may be. As
behaviour therapists believe that current behaviours arise from previous physical events, I do not
think that this therapy would be best suited to a paitent with an Internet addiction disorder, I believe
that the patient has an underlying disorder such as depression and or anxiety. Researchers suggest
that persons with social anxiety disorder often feel more comfortable using online communication
methods versus face to face interactions due to high levels of fear and anticipation of threat and
negative evaluation associated with live interactions. Furthermore, research has established a clear
connection between social anxiety and problematic internet use but little is known about the
specific factors involved in this connection. (4) Internet addiction disorder has only recently been

Analysis Of Blood Wedding By Federico GarcГa Lorca
The theater Blood Wedding is a folk tragedy which was produced by the Spanish dramatist
Federico GarcГa Lorca. In this theater, there are five main characters, including Leonardo, the
bride, the groom, the groom s mother, and Leonardo s wife. The author narrated the story in
Episodic plot structure, in which the overall effect is cumulative, we need to see many scenes
before we understand what is happening. The story happened on the day of a wedding in a
village, among a couple and a man. The couple were going to get married, but the bride who had
had been with a young man whose name was Leonardo for seven years, still had old affection with
Leonardo. In the morning of the wedding, at the wedding banquet, Leonardo and the bride danced...

In the theater Blood Wedding , there were some scenes mixed with Flamenco dance, which is
very popular in the Spanish literature. The beginning is a Spanish language plot with English
introduction. The dancing with the dancers at the beginning of the dance is a shadow, casting
on the screen behind the dancers. The shadow looks like the dancer but also not without doubt,
which undoubtedly indicates some things, heralding love behind the other protagonist it? Or the
same fate of both of the two main male characters? This was a tragedy, which happened between
two families, among a couple, and more, between the two men, whose fate may would be
shadowed or indicated in the Flamenco dance. The play was showed in a black box theatre,
where the spaces are easily built and maintained, and are usually home to plays or other
performances with very basic technical arrangements, such as limited set construction. For the
play Blood Wedding , the black box gave it sufficient space and room to make itself best, because
the space of the stage is versatile and easy to change. And there were some design challenges in the
play. In costumes, the play arranged no masks for the main characters, through which the play
emphasized the characters so that the audience can follow the emotion of the characters very well,
and can understand the the story theme better. When the climax of the plot came, the light of the
stage became red, the color of

The Character Analysis Of Iago Of Othello
At first glance, Iago of Othello can appear to have little motivation for his destructive tendencies;
however, when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, his incentive takes on a
twisted internal logic. His all consuming desire for revenge is not necessarily because of any
outside influence by Othellohimself, but rather the fact that Othello disrupts Iagos conception of
himself and is a pawn whom he can manipulate for pleasure. His arrogance and entitlement are
also classic symptoms of antisocial personality disorder, as is his superficial charm, which allows
him to enlist the assistance of Roderigo in his plot to destroy Othello s marriage.

For example, act 1 scene 1 depicts him and Roderigo discussing Othello s impending marriage.
During this scene, Roderigo mentions that Iago hast had [his] purse/ As if the strings were thine
(1.1.2 3). A common symptom of antisocial personality disorder is the inability to handle money
responsibly, whether because of an unreliable source of income or reckless spending (Personality
and Personality Disorders, 88). In either case, from the first scene of the play it is clear that he is
leeching off of Roderigo for personal gain. His disorder appears to manifest itself differently
depending on the person with whom he is interacting, as shown when he speaks to Emelia and his
charming, relatively eloquent exterior melts away into an aggressive, rude figure. This behavioral
pattern indicates that Iago is a fundamentally antisocial person, not reacting to a specific negative
situation.
Iago reveals a good deal about the inner workings of his mind when he states that But for [his]
sport and profit. [He] hate[s] the Moor (1.3.386). He relates this to the alleged adultery between
his wife and Othello, but when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, it
becomes literally true. According to the DSM, such individuals are frequently motivated by
pleasure seeking. The reasons which Iago gives for his hatred of Othello do not stand up to scrutiny
when his hostile

Dionysus in Grecian Myth Essay
Dionysus in Grecian Myth
The god, Dionysus, fills an integral role in Grecian Myth. According to Euripides Bacchae,
Dionysus represents the animalistic and mystic life force that connects humanity to its innate
earthy roots #8212;roots that are illogical, chaotic, and instinctual. In this paper I will be
discussing this aforementioned mystic life force and its existence in ancient Greece s supremely
logical society. Being as completely logical as the ancient Greeks tended to be, they needed some
sort of release valve that kept them from all going crazy in their otherwise rigid existence. The god,
Dionysus, provided this release in their world through the manifestations of wine, women, and song.
Without these simple earthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women were reported as performing weird fantastic things, what miracles and more than
miracles while under Dionysus influence (665 66). Each one of those different mystical acts they
performed represented a different aspect of Dionysus divinity. The women struck the ground and
wine sprang forth for them to drink, they tore live cattle limb from limb, and flew among other
things. The wine was representative of Dionysus gift of wine to mortals. The animals were a
reminder of Dionysus love for raw animal flesh. The women flying were simply examples of
Dionysus awesome powers and the things mortals can do when under the mystical high you
experience under Dionysus control. These awesome acts were spread far and wide by the shepherds
who witnessed them first hand. The stories they told of the miracles performed instigated a
powerful and destructive curiosity in Pentheus. His curiosity was born out of his attempts to
suppress his human side that was all Dionysus represented. Pentheus became so focused on denying
his irrational and animalistic values that they eventually became his obsession. What should have
been a natural human high turned into a perversion of the normal mortal experience with Dionysus.
Pentheus manic desire to view the acts of the women on the mountain was the manifestation of his
perverted sense of pleasure. This voyeuristic desire could only be satisfied through experiencing
another perversion set up by

  • 2. A Historical Views Of Leadership Part III Historical Views of Leadership Modern attempts to understand leadership often ignore the considerable insights provided by great figures of the past. Bernard M. Bass demonstrates that leadership was a recognized phenomenon from the emergence of civilization. Sampling of thinking about leadership from different perspectives as well as from various time periods and cultures will be given. All voices used, highlight the key issues identified by Spitzberg: the importance of the leader, the recruitment of leaders, the process of leadership, and the relationship between leaders and followers. J. Thomas Wren incorporates many different philosophers views in order to demonstrate that leaders differed greatly in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greeks admired and wanted heroic leaders that had 1. justice and judgment (Agamemnon), 2. wisdom and counsel (Nestor), 3. shrewdness and cunning (Odysseus), and 4. valor and activism (Achilles). Machiavelli believed that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to lead in the introduction of a new order of things. o He believes that leaders needed steadiness, firmness, and concern for the maintenance of authority, power, and order in government. Hegel s (1830) Philosophy of Mind argues that by first serving as a follower, a leader subsequently can best understand his followers, which people still believe today. 10 The Hero As King Thomas Carlyle Kingship is a form of heroism. A King is the commander over Men subordinates must loyally surrender themselves to their King. A King commands over its people to furnish them with constant practical teaching, and to tell them what they are to do. Carlyle believes that putting the Ablest Man in each country in a supreme place and loyally respect him will lead to a perfect government. People will believe that what the Ablest Man tells them to do will be the wisest and the fittest. o However, most people cannot do this. They cannot entrust everything to one person, they need evidence and structure. 11 Rulers and Generals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Comfort Of Strangers Essay The extract from Ian McEwan s novel The Comfort of Strangers tells the story of Robert and his distant relationship with his family. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him and his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them. During their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them play dress up with their mothers belongings. The extract follows a sequence of events: the first is dress up in the early afternoon, then, clean up in the late afternoon, followed by dinner. In this extract, Ian McEwandisplays Robert s distant relationship with his sisters, father, and mother by demonstrating the unreliability of appearances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with their father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep into my mind, (McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked deep into [Robert s] mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father having immense, almost supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan demonstrates the father s power by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced represents a timid and quick action which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene. On the other hand, looked represents a more authoritative and attention demanding action performed by the father, which causes a shift of tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all about the sisters, making Robert in some ways invisible, but now with the father looking directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative away from Eva and Maria as Robert gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift from the fun and lighthearted tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious tone when introducing the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me, Robert, what have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue in the extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and him due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power. The father s knowledge of Robert s naГЇvetГ© that leads Robert to think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Service Learning With Child Protective Services ( Cps ) First Impressions Before taking this class or completing my service learning with Child Protective Services (CPS), I really had not had any experience with CPS. I just made the assumption that the agency was biased and flawed based on the experiences other people had with CPS. I also did not think it would be a place that I would want to work because I did not want to work with children, although now I realize that was a really unfair opinion I had of the agency. I also thought a lot of people abused the service because I had heard a lot of stories of people calling CPS on each other out of spite. After learning about CPS and being able to observe what the agency does, I do realize the agency is not what I thought it was. I also realize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although my first day in the office was uneventful I was looking forward to going back, because I was excited to see what other types of tasks Ms. Green has to carry out. My first day was my only day in the office though, after a while Ms. Green stopped responding to my emails. From my understanding it was not Ms. Green who was avoiding me, it was the agency preventing her from communicating with not only me, but with other families who she could have been working with. I became so frustrated and disappointed that I was getting gypped from the service learning portion of class. I also imagine the families she was working with were frustrated as well because they were stuck in a sort of limbo. Even though I was not able to go back to the CPS office and complete any more hours there, I did get the opportunity to observe a case in court. Which definitely made me place some faith back into the agency, it made everything we learned in class click together for me. In particular there were some terms that came up in court that I remember discussing in class, such as family reunification, safe and stable housing, and the family service plan. I really felt like I was able to fully understand what was happening during the hearing because we covered so much in class. This case involved three children who were currently living in foster care with a family, and their parents who were trying to get the three children returned to them. I did not anticipate how emotionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article is about a custom made Louboutin shoe made to celebrate Disney s re release of the famous story Cinderella on DVD and Blu ray in the autumn of 2012. She laid out the map, tracing the coastline and studying the inlets where the boat would seek harbor. She sat one last time, on the balcony of her room at the Majestic, overlooking the beach and glanced out at the harbor. She sipped her espresso, pensive about Javier. Her jaw quivered ever so slightly as she said her final goodbyes. Time to join the living. Enough grieving! She had wept the reverent tears of a forlorn wife. • 10. Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution of power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power range from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be served in a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is something that we perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many intricacies in regard to power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight by Randall Collins, the author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power most effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to giv(e) in on something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a mother and child. Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has promised his mother that he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let him go and play, assuring her that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The mother concedes, and the child is happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and losses, the mother has gained points with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores will still be done, only a few hours later. Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in what he does, and in letting her son go she has not only made him happy but is also asserting her power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most effectively realized her power by knowing when to sacrifice something that is of lesser importance while gaining more long term benefits. Another way that power may be asserted is by the influences of certain situations, namely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This meant that many of the experienced and greatest of British Generals, including Gage himself, did not believe that war was the right option and did not believe in the British cause. So to prevent the catastrophes that Gage caused during the first months of the War, the British should have given the position to a General who was both capable but also sensible. Cornwallis was a competent commander, but when he inherited his Lordship, he often voted against heavy taxation of the colonies. Literature, on the other hand, boasts a world of magic and possibility. It exists as an interactive universe where a story can go in one direction and a thousand directions all at once. THE DIVISION OF ISRAEL Under the reign of Solomon, Israel reached great economic and political heights along with its security and prosperity. Solomon was renowned for his wisdom, wealth and building projects, but with these projects came heavy taxes and harsh labour on his people. After his death, the kingdom was divided into two separate kingdoms, north and south. The biblical record accounts for the division as a consequence for him staying from God, but his tax and labour laws and new administrative districts also lead to friction within his people. The immature leader that followed him amplified this friction. One of the contributing factors to the division was the heavy tax imposed on the people. This came in the form of food rations for both the Kings court. The writer of kings records the massive daily provisions of the king s palace, which included milled flour and livestock. The 12 new administrative provided these rations monthly. This caused major angst within the country as Judah was excluded from providing rations. Although patriotism is a show of immense support towards one country, it can be depicted wrongfully at times. In reference to that statement, consider the drama/anti war film Paths of Glory, directed by none other than Stanley Kubrick, famous for other films such as the film adaptation of Stephen King s The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange. Paths of Glory is a film where soldiers in World War I refuse to execute an impossible attack, and their superior officers choose how to deal with their cowardice, and is transcendently humane over other movies in comparison. In addition, the film Paths of Glory criticizes acts of patriotism by depicting merciless, egomaniacal military captains, commanders, and officers. However, it blatantly ignores acts of patriotism that achieve results far beyond the normal expectation (even those of Kirk Douglas character, Colonel Dax, the primary protagonist of the film), so the film s theme can blend in throughout the background of the important events of the film. Construction Of Construction Projects Project Manager 1.Construction is one of the major industry which involves a huge amount of capital and requires human resources, equipment s, tools, materials and proper technique (Project Management Institute, 2013). In construction projects project manager is required to fulfil the needs of the client in terms of terms of cost, timely delivery and quality. Project manager is the one who identifies the various processes required to carry the project and is responsible for the various activities, relative dependency among the various activities to carry out the process and thus, the construction (Project ManagementInstitute, 2004). Tinnirello (1999) points out that in order to complete the project on time and in definite budget a project manager must keep track on all the activities and actual processes. A study by Gregory (2011) shows that to fulfil the expectations and needs of the client project manager must apply proper skills, techniques and knowledge in the project. Among the more interesting words from Genesis 1 are: In the beginning... it alerts the reader of the fact that everything that has ever taken place as regards man had a starting point, an origin. Time is a created object just as anything else is. Before time, in some presently incomprehensible way, God and His kingdom stood outside of any movement or effect from time. He can say He has a beginning in the sense that before time began, there was no need or reason to mark the flow of events. Yet, great controls might be made and kept up utilizing different procedures. In the event that all work forces dependably did what was best for the association, control and even administration would not be required (Krajewski, 2007). However, clearly people are once in a while incapable or unwilling to act in the association s best investment, and a set of controls must be actualized to make preparations for undesirable conduct and to empower alluring activities. This idea of Holden being a broken record or someone that no one wants to listen is further portrayed throughout the book. An example of this is in the hotel room when Holden is with a prostitute. Even though she is getting paid she still doesn t want to just sit down and listen to Holden talk, she s not up there to listen to a broken record. I feel that this moment in the book is where I see the two key ideas Salinger is trying to portray finally link together. In this part of the book we have Holden in a situation where he is meant to be doing adult things but instead all he wants to is talk because as much as he wants to take part in these activities he can t bring himself to do it because he is that catcher in the rye, the guardian of youth. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Investigating biological characteristics and dynamics using THz techniques has both advantages and disadvantages. One of the most important advantages is the low energy of THz waves, corresponding to a few meV, which is well below the ionization energies of atoms and molecules. This means that we can study materials with THz waves without disturbing the system under study, unless enough power is applied to cause a significant increase in temperature. The other major advantage is that the characteristic energy of the hydrogen bond, which is the most dominant bond in biological molecules, lies in the THz frequency range and, therefore, THz waves can directly detect spectral features such as resonances and motions of molecules. However, a serious disadvantage is the high absorption of THz waves by the water in which biological molecules reside. This water absorption can mask the characteristic features of samples, even though biological dynamics naturally occur in water. Meaning, is this person white or black? If they re white, they have power ergo can be racist. Throughout both Mixed Blood Stew by Jewell Parker Rhodes and the story The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss, the concept of power plus prejudice is portrayed. In the story Mixed Blood Stew, we are given examples of miscegenation and how members of society with mixed race backgrounds are victims of prejudice. Similarly to the sneetches without stars on their stomachs, mixed race members of society are often looked at as lesser and not worthy of our time. However, we now understand that no matter what background someone might have, we should always give them a chance without judgement. In Mixed Blood Stew, many cultural references are made elaborating on this point. The play was showed in a black box theatre, where the spaces are easily built and maintained, and are usually home to plays or other performances with very basic technical arrangements, such as limited set construction. • 50. The Character Analysis Of Iago Of Othello At first glance, Iago of Othello can appear to have little motivation for his destructive tendencies; however, when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, his incentive takes on a twisted internal logic. His all consuming desire for revenge is not necessarily because of any outside influence by Othellohimself, but rather the fact that Othello disrupts Iagos conception of himself and is a pawn whom he can manipulate for pleasure. His arrogance and entitlement are also classic symptoms of antisocial personality disorder, as is his superficial charm, which allows him to enlist the assistance of Roderigo in his plot to destroy Othello s marriage. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder are characterized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, act 1 scene 1 depicts him and Roderigo discussing Othello s impending marriage. During this scene, Roderigo mentions that Iago hast had [his] purse/ As if the strings were thine (1.1.2 3). A common symptom of antisocial personality disorder is the inability to handle money responsibly, whether because of an unreliable source of income or reckless spending (Personality and Personality Disorders, 88). In either case, from the first scene of the play it is clear that he is leeching off of Roderigo for personal gain. His disorder appears to manifest itself differently depending on the person with whom he is interacting, as shown when he speaks to Emelia and his charming, relatively eloquent exterior melts away into an aggressive, rude figure. This behavioral pattern indicates that Iago is a fundamentally antisocial person, not reacting to a specific negative situation. Iago reveals a good deal about the inner workings of his mind when he states that But for [his] sport and profit. [He] hate[s] the Moor (1.3.386). He relates this to the alleged adultery between his wife and Othello, but when viewed through the lens of antisocial personality disorder, it becomes literally true. According to the DSM, such individuals are frequently motivated by pleasure seeking. The reasons which Iago gives for his hatred of Othello do not stand up to scrutiny when his hostile ... • 52. Dionysus in Grecian Myth Essay Dionysus in Grecian Myth The god, Dionysus, fills an integral role in Grecian Myth. According to Euripides Bacchae, Dionysus represents the animalistic and mystic life force that connects humanity to its innate earthy roots #8212;roots that are illogical, chaotic, and instinctual. In this paper I will be discussing this aforementioned mystic life force and its existence in ancient Greece s supremely logical society. Being as completely logical as the ancient Greeks tended to be, they needed some sort of release valve that kept them from all going crazy in their otherwise rigid existence. The god, Dionysus, provided this release in their world through the manifestations of wine, women, and song. Without these simple earthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women were reported as performing weird fantastic things, what miracles and more than miracles while under Dionysus influence (665 66). Each one of those different mystical acts they performed represented a different aspect of Dionysus divinity. The women struck the ground and wine sprang forth for them to drink, they tore live cattle limb from limb, and flew among other things. The wine was representative of Dionysus gift of wine to mortals. The animals were a reminder of Dionysus love for raw animal flesh. The women flying were simply examples of Dionysus awesome powers and the things mortals can do when under the mystical high you experience under Dionysus control. These awesome acts were spread far and wide by the shepherds who witnessed them first hand. The stories they told of the miracles performed instigated a powerful and destructive curiosity in Pentheus. His curiosity was born out of his attempts to suppress his human side that was all Dionysus represented. Pentheus became so focused on denying his irrational and animalistic values that they eventually became his obsession. What should have been a natural human high turned into a perversion of the normal mortal experience with Dionysus. Pentheus manic desire to view the acts of the women on the mountain was the manifestation of his perverted sense of pleasure. This voyeuristic desire could only be satisfied through experiencing another perversion set up by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
