John Napier Research Paper
John Napier was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 1, 1550. His parents were Sir
Archibald Napier and Janet Bothwell. Napier came from a wealthy family. His father was a
landowner and his mother was the daughter of Francis Bothwell. Napier was also known as Jhone
Neper, which came from his latin name Joannes Neper ( John NapierBiography ).
Napier was sent to St Salvator s College at the age of 13, because of his intellectual mind. He
gained curiosity in the subject theology. Theology remained very important to him, although he left
college before he could even receive his degree. After leaving college, many believe that he traveled
the world to further his education. When he returned to Scotland in 1571, he met a girl and married
her a year later. He started a family soon after ( John Napier Biography ). ... Show more content on

He spent almost twenty years inventing logarithms. He invented logarithms by continuously
working out very complicated astronomy math problems. He felt as though there should ve been an
easier way to get an answer ( Famous Mathematicians )
Napier invented two treatises, Description of the Marvelous Canon of Logarithms and Construction
of the Marvelous Canon of Logarithms. In the first treaty, he explains how he thought they would
work. In the second treaty, he explains the method that he used to create logarithms (Encyclopedia
Britannica ).
As Napier grew older, theology was still very important to him. People even thought he knew
how to do magic, simply because of what he believes in. People also thought he was strange due
to him putting a black spider in a box so he could carry it with him while traveling (Famous
Mathematicians ). Before Napier passed away he moved back to Edinburgh, Scotland. There, he
continued to invent things such as Napier Bones. Napier Bones was similar to a calculator which
he made out of ivory. He also created a device called the burning mirror (Famous

Uh-1 Huey Helicopter In Korean War
Centuries before the Korean War, wars were long and painful events that any man could ever go
through. Troops would match from countries to countries, crossing mountains, trial through the
forest, and wander the desert to meet with their enemy in battle. The only problem with the troops
traveling so far for so long is that before the war ever starts, the men were fatigued and casualty
rates were higher than they should be. By the Korean War, an amazing machine was introduced to
the military ranks, turning the tide in warfighting and troop survivability. UH 1 Huey Helicopter, or
Utility Helicopter, was the one machine that was created by Bell that change the concept in
warfighting and giving the United States the upper hand in war. On several... Show more content on

with a telescopic unit called the FLIR BRITE Star II. This telescopic unit can lock on to multiple

the enemy before the enemy notice the aircraft. The UH 1 Huey Helicopter is also able to
collect terrain data. With collecting terrain intel from the air, they are able to find the path of
least resistance which can change how effective the mission will be for the troops. With the
hover feature, the UH 1 Huey helicopter can allow troops to rappel out of the aircraft for quick
deployment. This feature was first utilized in Vietnam with the UH 1D. Rappelling from a UH

the area as they might be under surveillance (Hook) Not only did the UH 1 Huey Helicopters

As the creditors view, they prefer the high current ratio. The current ratio provides the best single
indicator of the extent, which assets that are expected to be converted to cash fairly quickly cover
the claims of short term creditors. However, consider the current ratio from the perspective of a
shareholder. A high current ratio could mean that the company has a lot of money tied up in
nonproductive assets.
The return on equity, ROE, is as high as 20.69% (above 15%). It illustrate that the RL
Corporation uses the investors money pretty effectively. As of return of assets, equals to 13.10%,
which reveals how much profit a company earns for every dollar of its assets. Both ROE and
ROA for RL Corporation seems really good and they provide a picture that managers are doing a
good job of generating return from shareholders investments.
The current financial performance is pretty optimistic for RL Corporation. At the same time, we
also need to forecast the future financial data after 2012. To forecast the future free cash flow, only
the internal employees can get the real and accurate information and ratios. As an external

A Comparison For Variable Cost And Absorption Costing
I have attached an analysis for your review. This analysis reflects a comparison for Variable Cost
and Absorption costing using
Sales:60,000 units
Production:80,000 units
Ending Inventory:20,000 units
Based on these analyses I have made several recommendations along with pros and cons to aid in
the decision making process.
I recommend that we use absorption costing over variable costing. Absorption costing is a method
where ...fixed manufacturing costs are inventoriable costs (Datar, et al, 2009). That is, inventory
absorbs all manufacturing costs. In the absorption metho there does not need to be a distinction
between fixe and variable costs.
Per the analyses performed on the attached spreadsheets one can see that the ... Show more content

We should experience some of the following positives after implementing JIT:
Supply Chain Management: The JIT inventory model may assist in being more efficient in the
way we handle supply chains and use our parts to assemble products. We can provide lower costs
throughout the manufacturing process; which can be passed on to our customers. With our lower
costs, we could produce a more affordable product for our customers and thereby help to stay ahead
of our competitors.
Reduction of Waste: By maintaining our current method we are housing products that go unused
and/or become obsolete. This causes us to sell product at a reduced price often less than cost or we
must dump the product with no money gained at all. The JIT inventory model should help to
address this situation and by housing fewer products in the warehouses we could address our
customer needs quicker and be open to customized orders.
Reduction in Warehouse Costs: It can be costly to keep excess inventory on hand. By moving to
JIT we may be able to reduce the number of warehouses we currently have as well as eliminate
excess storage.
Improved Customer Relations: Adopting the JIT model will allow for better servicing of our
customers. Having greater control of the manufacturing process will make it easier to respond to
our customers needs and any changes they may have or require.
While I have high lited the positives above we must also consider possible negative aspects.

Betty Friedan Women s Rights
Who knows what women can be when they are finally free to be themselves Betty Friedan. Betty
Friedan was born on February 4, 1921, at a time when women were allowed to vote, however,
they were not respected in the workplace. Friedan was a revolutionary writer and women s rights
activist, who worked to bring women the same equality as men. She was an extraordinary woman
who spoke out about women s rights when others stayed silent. Betty Friedanwas the most
influential person in getting women the same equal rights as men. Friedan, along with many other
women, felt pressured to devote her time only to child care and not her dream; eventually, she
would change that. Although women were allowed to vote, they were not allowed to hold
government positions, and they were treated poorly if they did have a job. At a young age, Betty
Friedan witnessed her father force her mother to stay home and quit her job. Later on in her life,
Friedan was fired from her job for being pregnant, along with many other women. According to the

Main Causes Of The English Civil War
The English Civil War were multiple events of armed battles and political machinations between
Parliamentarians(Roundheads) and Royalists(Cavaliers) over the English government.
There were multiple battles in the English Civil war, also at different times. The war went on
from August 22 1642 to September 3 1651. Some of the main battles were Edgehill, Marston
Moor, and the battle of Naseby.America was involved in this war and it is one of their only Civil
Wars ever. There were a lot of casualties in the war, and a lot of long battles fought.
The English Civil War was taken place in the Kingdom of England and was nine years long.
Religion was a major cause of the Civil War, mostly stemmed from problems between Charles I
and the Parliament over an Irish insurrection. The war included the Parliament, the Aristocracy,
the middle classes, the commoners, and other armies. The Parliament was the highest legislature
of the House of Lords, a commoner was an ordinary person, the Aristocracy is the highest class in
particular societies, and the middle class are people who are in between the working class and the
upper class. There were supporters of the King and supporters of the Parliament which was led by
Oliver Cromwell, it just all depended on what they believed in. The war also involved other
kingdoms ruled by the Stuart Dynasty, Scotland and Ireland. This conflict left around 34,000
Parliamentarians and 50,000 Royalists dead, while more than 100,000 men and women died from

St. John s Last Speech
Let s get straight to the point. When asked, what do you want to be remembered as, I would answer
promptly, a passionate guide.
There s a trend I ve been noticing lately within St John. Members who stay past a year, tend to
stay forever, while many others come and go quickly. I ve been personally affected by a lot of my
new acquaintances sudden departures. It s like meeting a rainbow, then within a shimmer, they re
gone.
I reckoned, it s that they haven t found their reason to stay yet. Specifically, their purpose. From
anecdotal evidence, I can t say I was always this enthusiastic about St John.
I was born a leader. From kindergarten back in China, I would fervently campaign for class
president. In middle school, I jumped at any student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to help new members discover their purpose, and their reasons to stay. By recognizing their
buried strengths, and gently giving them that nudge, I believe a lot of hidden talent can be found
within St John. If that were my duty, I guess I would be remembered as a passionate guide, right?
But that s not enough. Having passion for a pre existing worthy cause wonderful, but I want to be
more than that. Instead of a speck of sand within the vast Sahara that is the phenomenon of St John
s history, I want to be a bee within a kingdom of hives of St John s future. I want to contribute
something new to the continuing making of St John Ambulance.
I have a brain. It channels nebulae, from which, galactic stars of ideas emerge. Ideas that can paint
the abyss beyond, solve the riddles integrated within; ideas that can magnify the micro, and simplify
the macro. I call this: imagination.
When passion meets imagination, you get innovation. Beyond a guide, I want to be remembered as
an innovator.
St John Ambulance can never be perfected, just as everything is on earth. But with generations of
genius and dedication from individuals who love their organization and pioneer new designs, St
John slowly

The Roots Of Lean Manufacturing
Production managers are faced with many challenges within their facilities such as managing
inventories, controlling waste, and managing an ever changing production schedule. Managing
product flows can be difficult when balancing supply chain inventories with demand changes or
scheduling problems due to throughput variations. Several methods for managing these challenges
have been developed through the years and each have their own advantages and disadvantages for
different applications. The methods discussed in this paper will be limited to the Theory of
Constraints, Just in Time, and Material Requirements Planning. All three methods are designed to
manage different aspects of a manufacturing facility s product flow but all three were ultimately
developed as an optimization strategy for the manufacturing process. The roots of Lean
Manufacturingis one of the earliest management strategies to be developed to address the
challenges for production control and may well have been the birth of strategic production control
as we know it today.
LEAN MANUFACTURING
At the end of the 18th century Benjamin Franklin wrote about reducing waste in Poor Richard s
Almanac and this may very well have been the starting point for waste reduction thinking. At the
beginning of the 20th century Henry Ford was the first person to truly integrate a production
process with waste reduction, inventory control, and time management in mind. This paved the
way for Lean Manufacturing strategies to

Rhetorical Questions In My Last Duchess By Robert Browning
The poem My Last Duchess is a historical event that involves the Duke of Ferrara and Alfonso
who lived in the 16th century. Robert Browning My Last Duchess presents a narrative about a
recently widowed Duke who talks with an emissary had come to an arranged marriage with
another lady from a powerful and wealthy family. In the perspective of Duke, power and wealth
were integral in marriage and was determined to be married to a wealthy lady from a famous
family. As the Dukeorients the emissary through the palace, he stops and shows a portrait of the
late Duchess who was a lovely and young girl. The Duke then begins by stating information about
the picture and then to the Duchess. Duke claims that the Duchess flirted with everyone and did
not appreciate the history of the family: gift of a nine hundred years old name. (33) However,
when an individual continues to read the poem, it is evident that the Duke played an important role
in killing the lady. Duke states that he gave commands; / Then all smiles stopped together (45 46)
he used these words to define the death of his beloved Duchess. The aim of the essay is to analyze
literary devices that emphasize the content of the poem, which includes rhetorical questions,
exclamation mark, and em dash.
Browning has used extensively rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions are questions that are
posted in a literary work that does not need an answer: the strategic aims of rhetorical questions
are for emphasizing an issue or creating an object. Duke indicates the aspect of misogyny through
stating Will t please you sit and look at her? I said. (5) This is not a suggestion but indicates an
aspect of command especially when he completes the state with I said. Reading the poem shows
that the Duke never appreciated women or had a negative perspective of women, which may have
contributed to the death of Duchess. The approach taken is a form of objectification of women,
which may have been right at the time but the current society frown about it. In addition, the Duke
wants the reader to sympathize with him and he states A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad,
(22) indicating that he lacks the wording for his comments. Even though he may have contributed

beautiful too. According to Nam Suzanne, top five beach destinations of this country belong to
Patong Beach (Phuket), Railey Beach (Krabi), Maya Bay (Koh Phi Phi Ley), Hua Hin Beach
(Hua Hin) and Kata Beach (Phuket). Besides that, Thailand also has many other striking spots
such as tropical islands, hill tribes, museums, Buddisht temples, etc. and several World Heritage
sites (Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, Historic City of Ayutthaya, Dong Phayayen Khao Yai
Forest Complex, Phuphrabat Historical Park, Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex (KKFC), ...)
(World Heritage List 2012). Many courses were made up for tourists in Thailand so that they
can learn some native skills like Thai cooking, Buddhism and traditional Thai massage. This is a
very interesting activity, especially for foreign visitors. Another motive for tourists to visit this
country is the variety of national festivals here. Some famous ones are the fun for all water

the Elephant Round up in Surin, the Rocket Festival in Yasothon and the curious Phi Ta Khon

Dreams from My Father Essay
Essay: Dreams From My Father
Barack Obama s Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race
and identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the
book. Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience
than the majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems
similar to the experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross s Black Psychological
theory, the Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama s experience does
not necessarily occur in chronological order according to Cross s model, in my opinion, it portrays
a good example of how someone enters each stage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human
family, proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people,
not as black people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to
Barack, in my opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of
people and most importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race.
Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My
perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was
simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama
was cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having
also a black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites
because of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who
held the view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people
who loved, cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack.
Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. Cross s
Nigresence Model declared was the immersion stage of racial identity for a black person. In this
stage, African Americans basically submerge

Andrew Marvell, “to His Coy Mistress”
Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress In To His Coy Mistress the speaker carefully constructs a
subtle and logical argument as to why his addressee should sexually unite with him. The speaker
attempts this proposition through finesse in manipulating reason, form and imagery. The reasoning
employed would be familiar to a reader educated in Renaissance England, as it is reminiscent of
classical philosophical logic, entailing a statement, a counter statement and a resolution. In line with
this method Marvell s speaker codes his argument in classical imagery. To understand this argument
I will be approaching the poem in three clearly defined sections, which are denoted in the poem
with indented lines. The first of these section... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next section runs from lines 21 to 32, here the speaker moves away from the hypothetical to
reality but retains the melodramatic language used in the previous section to sustain the tenacity
of his points. Time here is portrayed as chasing the speaker as opposed to being something the
speaker is in control of as in the end of the last section. This is done using the image of a winged
chariot (l.22), this has classical associations with Greek mythology which relates to his form of
argument. The meter of the poem is restrictively regular, this structure emphasises the idea that
time is constantly progressing; reflecting the speaker s argument. Space is no longer inhabited by
images of movement and life like the rivers previously mentioned but instead: before us lie
/ Deserts of vast eternity (ll. 23 4). The desert has strong connotations with deathliness, an issue
that the speaker gruesomely develops upon and progresses within this section. The speaker implies
on lines 26 7 that the only exploration of the mistress s body that will be undertaken will be by the
worms that are decomposing her body if she remains in her coy state. This thought that her sexuality
should not be wasted is elaborated upon with a crude pun on line 29: And your quaint honor turn to
dust which, as the Norton Anthology of Poetry explains in the footnote, is a play on the Middle
English noun queynte which means female genitals. These images of

The Effect Of Proper Methods Of Teaching Computer Science
MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTER SCIENCE
Thomas Trunko
Missouri University of Science and Technology
Department of Computer Science
Abstract
This research is focused on the effects and proper methods of teaching Computer Science (CS)
topics to students below the undergraduate level, mostly students in middle or high school. Most
middle and high schools in the world today do not include CS courses into their curriculum. There
have been many researchers looking into the benefits of learning CS, such as teaching students to
work together as a group, among other skills. Most of the research used in this study will be
academic journals and articles focused around the topic of teaching students the beginner ideas of
CS, such as logic and programming. These articles are best for this topic since the research is
looking into the best methods of teaching, and the benefits of teaching the topics to students at a
younger age. These articles will be analyzed by looking at possible solutions and benefits to
implementing CS courses into a middle and high school setting. The results include how through
the course of learning about CS most students were able to learn the skills of teamwork, problem
solving, and creativity. The results lead to the conclusion that schools should implement these
courses to help advance technology in many ways, including better computers, phones, and security.
Along with advancing technology, this also will help students along another path that

Episodic Framing
James Britton, a professor at Oxford and the developer of multiple theories regarding language and
the effects it has on human learning wrote that experience is kaleidoscopic: the experience of
every moment is unique and unrepeatable. Until we can group items in it on the basis of their
similarity we can set up no expectations, make no predictions: lacking these we can make nothing

And to be able to spot deceptive techniques used in the news one most understand how to identify

How about maybe? In this paper I will outline the problems of the pedagogical approach the
United States federal government took in light of the War on Drugs on the wide public education

against the 1986 initiative by Nancy Reaganthat became one of the most subtle but destructive
aspects about the War on Drugs. She started an country wide program aimed at educating the youth.
More specifically on being able to prevent druguse in teenagers. However, there were unintended

must have been to use our tax money to fund ineffective police educational programs. While no
statistics were shown, the fact that these programs were found to be highly ineffective gives this
argument quite a bit of merit. Parallel to this, in 1986 congress passed the Drug Free Schools and
Communities Act which mandated a zero tolerance policy to drugs in schools. This was the first
time police officers began arresting students straight out of schools. This fact also shines light on

Why All Police Officers Should Carry Tasers
In this day and age self protection is always a key concern for many people. The fear of crime
and even the people who commit crime, there is always a chance that you could get robbed, caught
up in physical altercation, or even happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. People in
general approach these situations differently and prepare for these situations in different ways.
Smart people normally avoid putting themselves in situations like these by just avoiding problem
areas thus eliminating as much trouble as they possibly can. However, police officers put their lives

I feel the answer is yes and here s why. Much of these reasons are based on my own experiences
working as a federal law enforcement official with the United States Coast Guard overseas and
on the home front. All police should have effective methods to divert to when criminals are
hazardous or uncooperative. Usually police officers carry pepper spray, batons, and a firearm. In
many cases the baton is seen as brutal or violent method to get suspect to cooperate simply by
beating them. Then there is pepper spray which I have had personally shot in my face with. The
pain caused by pepper spray is intense ... [and causes] an involuntary closing of the eyes, a gagging
reflex, and temporary paralysis of the larynx (Wu, 371). It is very effective but on the flip side if a
officer sprays pepper spray the odds that some of the spray gets on the officer is also very likely
causing discomfort and possibly impairing the officer for seeing properly if it blows back in his
eyes. Also, pepper spray sometimes has no effect on people under the influence of drugs. Third,
there are firearms and let s face it if a gun is involved odds are very high that someone ends up
dead and that s never a good thing. I

Boy Scouts Ethnography
I chose to write my ethnography on the history and culture of the Boy Scouts of America because
this organization has been such a positive influence in my life. I have been an active member of
Troop 1 in Brewer, Maine since I was eleven years of age. To most people, they believe that
scouting only teaches you to build fires and set up tents, but scoutingtruly teaches a person so much
more. 2. After researching my ethnography and interviewing my informants, I ve felt like an insider

The most unusual thing I ve learnt about the culture I studied were the miscellaneous outdoor
challenges that Boy Scouts participate in across the country. One such example of this is the 50
Foot Rescue Relay. For this challenge, each Scout must be able to coil and throw a rope and tie a

If I had the ability to change one thing about the culture I studied, it would be the seriousness of

Will Salas In The Film In Time
During the movie In Time, the main character, Will Salas is living in a society where time is
money. While the rich can live forever, the poor live hour to hour. Will begins the movie as a
normal man who didn t agree with the system but never worked against it for fear of being
reprimanded. As pay wages decrease and his mother dies from it, he takes action and sets out to
destroy their communities system. In doing this he runs into love as well as troubles with the law.
At the end of the movie, he accomplished his goal; he demolishes the system forcing the

Second Messenger Research Paper
Second messengers and their actions
Second messengers are intracellular molecules that transmit received signs at receptors on the cell
surface to the target molecules. They also, expand strength of signals.
Second messenger are classified into three major classes:
1)Cyclic nucleotides.
2)Inositol triphosphate IP3 and diacylglycerol DAG.
3)Calcium ions Ca3+.
Common mechanism of second messenger system:
There are several different secondary messenger systems, but they all are quite similar in overall
mechanism, although the substances involved and overall effects can vary.
This conformation change can affect the activity of the receptor and result in the production of
active second messages.

Values And Values Of The Music
Beliefs and values of oneself in music are essential to determining future musical decisions. A
students self efficacy can be highly predictive in determining levels of performance achievement
(Lehmann, Sloboda, Woody, 2007). Secondary music students who want to be quality musicians
build a system of dispositions, skills, and abilities that enable them to self regulate their learning
(Hewitt, 2015). These students generally have greater self efficacy and are more likely to engage
themselves in meaningful musical experiences to produce the best results (Hewitt, 2015). Helping
students build positive self efficacy is an important area of interest for musicteachers. Oftentimes,
music students spend significant time practicing away from direct instruction or influence of their
teachers, meaning that self regulation plays a crucial role in music learning (Miksza, 2012). This
paper will address important factors like gender, examinations, and competition, and how these
factors affect a student building self efficacy in secondary music.
Effects of Gender There are many factors involved in creating musical self efficacy, and researchers
have noted that gender is among the most influential. Nielsen (2004) found that male students were
more likely to have higher self efficacy than female students in similar musical programs. He
administered a 50 item questionnaire to 130 first year music students in church music, performance,
and music education programs at six Norwegian

Justice Is One Of The Most Important Moral And Political...
Justice is one of the most important moral and political concepts. The word comes from the Latin
jus, meaning right or law. Since the beginning of time, injustice has been an issue each individual
has experienced during his or her daily lives. Even today we still are experiencing riots and protests
from African Americanin order to achieve justice. In Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 by Anna
Deavere Smith we see an example of injustice through the Rodney King case and the shooting of
Latasha Harlins. Rodney King and Latasha Harlins experienced racial injustice, which can be
defined as the denial of rights based on an individual s raceor racial background. Both two victims
were mistreated for the color of their skin and were stripped from their equal rights and

In Los Angeles, California, four Los Angeles police officers had been caught beating an unarmed

On April 23, the King trial jury begins its deliberations, and hours later the verdict was announced

Summarize findings from one global current event, within the last six months, that relate to an
innovation that can improve the mortality amd morbidity rates of cardiovascular disease in
developing countries.
After years of what sometimes seemed painstaking slow efforts to bring a less invasive approach
to managing mitral valve (MV) disease, things are finally moving forward on several fronts. It s
likely a response to the eye opening clinical success and rapid adoption of transcatheter aortic valve
replacement (TAVR). The success of TAVR has reinvigorated efforts to develop less invasive
approaches to the other heart valves. It has not been easy, but the transcatheter revolution marches
on.
Vavular heart disease has been called both The next epidemic and the forgotten epidemic. It is
responsible for more than 24,000 deaths and 85,000 deaths hospitalizations each year in the United
States, with those numbers increasing as the population ages and life expectancy rises. While
approximately 2.5% of the populations has moderate or severe valve disease,1 the prevalence in
those 75 years of age and older ranges between 11.7% and 13.3% depending on the source. 1,2

considers revenue generated from the sales of trancatheter aortic valve implants to determine

Poe s Dark Romanticism In The Poe By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s Dark Romanticism Dark Romanticism took a variety of forms, but Edgar Allan Poe was
most fascinated with madness, death, and evil. Edgar Allan Poe s writing style can typically be
identified as dark and gothic, yet euphonic. Poe s predictable style is clearly demonstrated to his
readers. Edgar Allan Poe raises the level of dark romanticism in the stories, The Raven and The
Pit and the Pendulum by using symbolism as a representation of death, by creating unreliable
narrators, and by using a haunting tone to set the weary mood. The progression of symbolism in
the stories to represent the horror of death is shown throughout Poe s work. In Poe s The Raven,
. The raven brings the narrator to the sense that he will never be able to see his lost love, Lenore,
again. This causes the speaker to wonder if his, soul from out that shadow... shall be lifted the
raven replies nevermore (130). The shadow casted by the raven identifies the death of his lover,
and the speaker has the realization that he will never regain the feeling of happiness and that he
may never escape his shadow. Throughout The Pit and the Pendulum, Poe uses the pit to illustrate
the Hell the speaker is put through and the death he is about to face. My cognisance of the pit, he
writes, had become known to the inquisitorial agents the pit, whose horrors had been destined for
so bold a recusant as myself, the pit, typical of hell (264). The pit represents the narrator s descent
into Hell and the

Comparing Araby and Genesis Essay
Parallels between Araby and Genesis
In the Bible, the story of creation occurs in the garden of Eden. The book of Genesis tells the tale
of Adam and Eve, whom God allowed to eat the fruit from any tree in the garden except for that of
the central tree of knowledge. Unfortunately, with the serpent s deceitful encouragement, Eve
enticed Adam to eat from that banned tree. The fruit opened Adam s eyes to the reality that he was
naked (Gen. 3:7 20). Interestingly, the second paragraph of Araby alludes to the Genesis account of
Eden. The wild garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a few straggling bushes.

Later the narrator tells of how he follows her to school and how he thinks about her constantly,
much like an adolescent in love would do. This feeling is not foreign to any reader; during the
youth of our lives, we too have desired someone at a point beyond normality.
Adam, the narrator, is obviously infatuated with Mangan s sister. Similar to what an adolescent
would do, the narrator trusts his love and will do anything for her. Such is the case when
discussing Araby, a bazaar. As she cannot attend due to a prior engagement, the narrator agrees to
get her something if he goes. Thus, the narrator offers to do something beyond what he would
normally do. Since the first mention of Araby is the narrator s conversation with Mangan s sister,
the bazaar apparently is neither a normal nor an extraordinarily popular event. Coupled with the
aunt s surprise at the narrator s desire to visit the bazaar, a reader receives the feeling that the
narrator would not have otherwise gone to Araby.
Eve has shown Adam the fruit, and Adam is weighing its opportunities. Without desire for
schoolwork and little more for play, the narrator had hardly any patience with the serious work of
life, which...seemed to [him] child s play, ugly monotonous child s play. Clearly, the narrator is

Rhinovirus Inducing Wheezing And Asthma Exacerbation In Children
A respiratory viral infection plays a major role in important aspects of asthma and its exacerbation;
which is nearly associated for about 80% of overall respiratory condition. Viral pathogen associated
with wheezing includes Human Rhinovirus (HRV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV),
Parainfluenza, and coronavirus (Busse Lemanske. 2010).
Rhinovirus is associated with common colds that may cause sore throat, sinus infection, ear
infection and to some degree of bronchiolitis and pneumonia (American Academy of Pediatrics.
2015). This type of cold can happen at any time of the year but most common during winter or
spring. The goal of managing Rhinovirus is to prevent exacerbation in children, preventing the
disease excludes the ability of the exacerbating asthma for fatal outcome.
The purpose of the paper is to critically assess and manage using recently published guidelines on

specifically to Rhinovirus.

There is increasing debate on the question in what value should be placed upon human life.
Numerous agencies and policy makers have taken great interest in tackling the issue of human life
valuation. Although there is increasing controversies that surround producing estimates for valuing
a human life, it is imperative to understand the importance of reaching an economic value attached
to a human life. The ability to successfully quantify an individual s life would provide policy

Thus, standard HK estimates incorporate a zero value for persons without labor income such as
retired individuals with only investment or pension income , (Landefeld amp; Seskin, 1982).
The advantages in using the HK model are two fold. Primarily there is relative ease in using the
HK model as the data that is necessary to compute the model is not difficult to obtain. Moreover,
the HK model provides numerical estimates from indisputable measures without including any
objective numbers based on unquantifiable data. The object of the HK model is to place a
monetary value on human life from purely economic and productive measures by measuring
labor force participation and projected earnings, in which the HK model succeeds. According to
Card amp; Mooney however, the HK model has two main weaknesses First it takes no account of
either the existing decision making processes in the Health Service or the views of the individual
patients at risk. Secondly, it implies that the objective of health care is to add to the productive
capacity of the nation, which is true but it is not the sole objective , (Card amp; Mooney, 1977).
In light of the limitations in the HK model, a model that takes a more comprehensive measure of
the private valuation individuals place on small reductions in risk and the probability of death.

1910 Revolution Essay
The 1910 Revolution in Mexico was the first of Latin America s great 20th century revolutions. The
revolution prompted a political system that gave way to an unmatched stability in Mexico for more
than half a century. The political, social, and cultural effects of the revolution triggered the
formation of the PRI, the agrarian reform, a new relationship with the United States, and in turn the
consolidation of national identity through cultural policies. In looking at these effects of the 1910
Revolution, we can determine why developments in Mexicotoday are so important to the United
States and characterize current bilateral relations, given such a deep rooted complex U.S. Mexico
relationship.

Analysis Of Robert Frost s Poem And The Thawing Wind
In Robert Frost s poem To the Thawing Wind, in the literal sense, he is asking the Southwest wind
to come, melt the snow and bring spring, but symbolically he is tired of the winter and wants
warm weather. He wants to burst out of his cabin and have a good time, not thinking about poetry.
The poet has been confined in his winter cabin and is wanting the windand rain to melt the snow, so
it will change his winter isolation. He has been longing for the thawing wind because that is when
spring is coming. He is anticipating spring to come because it will bring him inspiration and the
freedom needed to be able to do new things and enjoy everything good that comes with this season.
In the literalsense, Frost speaks to the seasons and describes his distaste for the weather; however,
figuratively he desires to go outside to be a part of the process of spring and feel alive again. In
the first line of Frost s poem, he is ordering the wind to Come with rain, O loud Southwester!
Speaking literally, he is telling the southwest wind to come with rain so it can melt the snow and
bring spring. His use of the word loud means he is asking for the wind to come and wake up his
household. Figuratively, he is wanting spring to come because it will give him the chance to be
outside and enjoy nature. In the next line, he mentions birds when he asks for the wind to Bring the
singer, bring the nester. During spring, birds come and make their nests and sing because of the

How To Juggle Three Tennis Balls
The past weeks we have been learning how to juggle in class with three tennis balls. We were
given the balls and were told to juggle with no instruction. However, there were a few people in
the class that were able to juggle because they were taught at a younger age or already knew how
to do so. We were trying to get through the three stages of motor learning, cognitive, associative,
and automaticity stages. During the first stage, cognitive, I was confused and had no idea what
was going on in the situation. I was in completely lost when it came to juggling. I never really
understood how to juggle three tennis balls, but I had an idea on how to do so and I tried it and it
was not the right way. In the second stage, associative, I was starting... Show more content on

With more practice the better you will get at the skill and the easier it will come to you. If the
student is at the cognitive or even the associative stage they need practice to get to the automaticity
stage. Another strategy is to give them hints on how to do the skill, with other people telling you
how to do it helps you understand it more and eventually get it to the automaticity stage. The last
strategy is that the student will be able to experiment the skills on their own, by that I mean trying
different techniques to accomplish the task at hand. For example, while juggling have the students
try different ways to start throwing the ball and catching them with different hands to see what feels
more comfortable for them and what way you have the most

Character Analysis Of James Watson In The Novel The Double...
James Watson James Watson is both the narrator and author of the novel The Double Helix. The
reader begins to understand this character by the actions and ways this character is treated. He is
at the time 19 years old and graduated from the University of Chicago. James Watson is a character
the reader can relate to with events such as James not just focusing on science, but enjoying parties
and meeting the girls at Cambridge University. He is portrayed as a very determined scientist as he
throughout the novel. He shows this when he studies RNA, bacterial sextuality and most
importantly DNA. He dreamed of achieving scientific glory through genetics and microbiology.
Watson uses most of his time working and struggling with Francis Crickto create a DNA model.
Him and Crick work well together even through some road blocks and bumps. Along the way
Watson also works with Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin. Rosalind Franklin provides
conflict because she has difficulty at first working and getting along with the others. This group of
scientist navigates a new world of discoveries as they race other scientists to the DNA structure.
They are motivated by this competition and they use the mistakes of the other scientist to their
advantage. For example when they get hold of a draft of Pauling s most recent breakthrough on
DNA. They are shocked and disappointed to find out it looks as though he has cracked it, however
it turns out he has made some very noticeable mistakes. The

Rembrandt Harmenszoon Research Paper
What is there to be said about the man known as Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn? From the
time he was very young he had an apparent advanced skill when it came to art. Little is known
about Rembrandt himself, Rembrandt left no journal or notebook, and only seven of his letters
have been located all addressed to the same man, concerning a specific project and revealing little
of his thought or personality (rembrandtpainting.net). Throughout his life he was widely known as
a skilled artist, but towards later years there is speculation on what happened to him as an artist and
a person, also known as the Rembrandtmyth. Now, due to the fact that this man is one of the first
and only artists to make a vast amount of self portraits, circulation... Show more content on

In 1642, Rembrandt composed The Night Watch, which is the background of the controversy
surrounding Rembrandt s later years. This painting is one which portrays thirty four total figures,
two of which were important members of a militia at the time, Willem van Ruytenburch and
Frans Banning Cocq. Now, because Rembrandt was proficient at his lighting and shading skills,
and the way he incorporated light and darkness to focus on certain aspects of his work, this piece
focuses on these two, but also shared by a young girl wearing yellow in the background, and
these three are the central focuses in this specific work. Eighteen members of this militia total
commissioned and paid 1,600 guilders to complete The Night Watch. Back then, this was a
tremendous amount of money. There are rumors that speculate around this painting, and one of
the most profound is that the people who commissioned him to do this painting hated it and
were disgusted by it. Some say this was the turning point in his life because he lost a lot of
respect because of the feedback he got, and apparently lead more and more people to not
commission paintings from him. Even though this is a rumor at most and research proves this was
not a downfall to him, experts still ponder the possibility of this leading him to a downfall. Being
the most controversial work by Rembrandt, it is the most studied and researchers are still looking for

The Political Art Of Art
Professor Sarah Tamez
Art 1301.09
November 23, 2015 Political Art Art can be expressed in many forms but one of the best has got
to be political art, as it expresses art in a relevant form for many to understand, it doesn t require
knowledge in history. It puts out a statement in a bold way so that people may better understand
what is trying to be expressed. Many artists use art in topics like reproductive rights, equality, gun
control, human rights, the environment and war to express desire for change. One of the most
outspoken political artists is Barbara Kruger, who has had her work installed in many well
known museums. Kruger has become even more known because of her relevance using art to
criticize well known public figures like Kim Kardashian and George W. Bush, she has also been
a proud supporter of reproductive rights. One of her most known works is Your body is a
battleground which was printed in 1989 in her support for the March for Women s Lives . To
show the positive and negatives sides of the inner struggle, the good and the evil. She has a
reputation of supporting feminism ideas but she hasn t stopped there, she s even had her work put
on display in the Hirshhorn Museum. She has gotten the attention of The New York Times and
The Los Angeles Times because of her distinctive contemporary works. The beauty of her art is
that it relates to many, her art ranges from domestic violence to compulsive shopping and
everything in between, it is also really easy

Preventing Elderly Falls
Goal: Post about preventing falls for seniors Total words in document: Title: How to Avoid The
Slip, Trip, and Fall Slips and falls are the leading cause of unintentional deaths for seniors. They
can also cause serious injury, which can mean time away from the home to rehabilitate. This is
often distressing for both seniors and family members. It is important to fall proof the home as
much as possible. Install grab bars These are especially essential in the shower where slips are
most likely to happen due to wet conditions. It is a good idea to have them around the toilet as
well, since this up and down movement is often difficult for seniors. Adjust height Consider
changing the height of things like toilet seats and chairs to make them easier to get on and off.

Having a solid shoe can help immensely with stability and mobility. Stocking feet can also cause
slips because they are inherently more slippery than a good rubber soled shoe. Make flooring
non slip Polished wood and tile floors are a slip hazard. Make sure that flooring has enough
resistance to prevent slipping. Carpeting is ideal, but non slip mats are also a good choice for
bathrooms and kitchens. Just be careful of transitions that might be a trip hazard. Remove trip
hazards Trip hazards are many in the average home. Be careful of transitions between rooms and
types of flooring. Make sure that floors are level and that transitions between carpet and tile or
wood are covered with a transition piece that is well attached and at the correct angle to prevent
tripping. Consider installing ramps over stairs, or adding a chair lift to avoid falling on stairs.
Avoid loose clothing Loose clothing, especially if it drags on the ground, can be a fall hazard.
Getting wrapped up in a garment, or tripping over a hem, are recipes for trips and falls. Make sure
that clothing is well fitted and does not

Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis
Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural
goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational
to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A
lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is
chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the
people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to
have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by
rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role
model for others to follow.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors.
A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno,
Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership
seemed to naturally be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw
them as my leaders. Those traits are what made me choose to follow them.
Leadership Behaviors

College Is An Exciting Time For Any Student
College is an exciting time for any student. For many it s the first time they have fully been away
from home for an extended period of time and for the most part out from under the umbrella of
their parents influence and control. Whether it s a university an hour away, across the state and for
a few possibly across the country this is the first timeyou re considered an adult in the eyes of law
and free to make your own choices and decisions. The idea of going to collegeand deciding what
career you want to pursue is very exciting because you finally get to pursue your interests and
determine if that is in fact what you want to do for the rest of your life. However despite
graduating high schoolmany of those fears and stigmas are still embedded in our minds and
follow us to college. The fear of being judged for your looks, clothing, interests, hobbies, and just
overall what you just enjoy doing. Many of these we can push past by finding friends with
similar interests but the stigma with eating alone for many is something they have a hard time
trying to escape because of what it meant in high school. Western Carolina is considered a small
school compared to a school like East Carolina University whose undergraduate enrollment is more
than double the size of our entire enrollment and UNC Chapel Hill who is triple our entire
enrollment which is just above ten thousand. Regardless of the size of the school and having
graduated with friends who attend all of these schools one

The Components Elements Of Education
Education comes in different philosophies and is a crucial element in every civilization. When a
country is oppressed, one of the first things the oppressor tries to take over and get control is their
education. The reason is because with education, one can give or withhold any kind of information
and shape the nation in the way they see appropriate. With the exception of oppressed individuals,
educationteaches their society who they are, what is the nature of their environment, and how does
the context exist in the in the environment? Through control, the government is able to hold power
over the component elements of education. The component elements of education include the
teacher, learner, curriculum, learning environment, methodology, desired results, the teacher
student relationship, and the teacher community relationship. Three philosophies of pedagogythat
could be divided into the component elements of education are the classical traditional/conservative
philosophy, liberal progressive, and critical pedagogy. Although a few aspects within the elements
are similar, they are very different in their approach of teaching philosophies. The classical
traditional/conservative philosophy, liberal progressive, and critical pedagogy compare within the
curriculum, but their ideologies of teacher, learner, and desired results are drastically different.
Each philosophy has an overall goal for their society and people through the component elements of
education.

Summary Of John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government
In John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, Locke discusses a lot of important topics. The
topics discussed are the state of nature, common wealth, a civil society, equality of men, and
much more. In my writing, I will be discussing a few of these topics. I will be explaining how
John Locke s account of the state of nature set up and support his argument for a liberal political
structure of civil society. John Lockebegins the Second Treatise of Government by discussing the
state of nature. This state of nature that he talks about is the equality and freedom all men receive
at birth and the liberty they have when it comes to their lives and property. This means that the
decisions a man makes cannot be narrowed by another man, making them all living in the same
state, also known as the state of nature. Locke then quotes Richard Hooker on the obligation to
mutual love amongst all men (8). Hooker talks about how equality is the fundament of a civil
society and how if a man wants something, he must give it first. John Locke then talks about how

He starts off this chapter by saying that God having made man such a creature, that in his own
judgement, it was not good for him to be alone... (42). While saying that men should always
work together, Locke also talks about how a man can also join a political society where every
one of the members hath quitted this natural power, resigned it up into the hands of the
community in all cases that lished by it (46). Here, Locke is saying how if a man wants to be a
part of the political party, he must get rid of some or all the things that a state of nature provides
to him. Locke believes this is how a political society should work because if a man wishes to live in
a society ran off political ideas, he must give up his state of nature to live in a civil political
society which does not give him more freedom or rights than any other

Group Observation Strategies
Ellie is a 14 year old 9th grader. Ellie just moved from a small town in Oklahoma to Phoenix,
Arizona. Ellie has an older sister, and two younger brothers. Ellie loves art, and can be found
doodling all the time. Ellie also likes to listen to music, and has her headphones in whenever she
has the opportunity. Ellie likes to keep to herself, and doesn t often talk with other students. Ellie
does really well at completing work independently, and tests on grade level. I am worried about
Ellie, because her introverted behavior is beginning to cause disruptions with other classmates.
Group work is required in my class, and not talking with others in class is affecting her grade.
Other students do not want to work with Ellie, because she doesn t talk with others or pull her
weight in group assignments. Ellie s goals are to increase her participation in discussions, and
interact effectively with group activities (discussions, peer editing, writing workshop, etc.).... Show

This strategy uses peers to reinforce behavior. Group contingency can have a reward for
reaching the goal, or a punishment for not reaching the goal. I would choose dependent group
contingency for Ellie. This means that Ellie or her group would earn a privilege by
demonstrating appropriate group behavior. I think this would work well for Ellie, because it
would raise her social status with her peers. Her peers would become encouragers for her. This
could also help Ellie connect with her peers, and build positive relationships. If effective, this
strategy will help Ellie increase her participation in discussions, and her ability to interact
effectively in a

His father was a landowner and his mother was the daughter of Francis Bothwell. Napier was also known as Jhone Neper, which came from his latin name Joannes Neper ( John NapierBiography ). Napier was sent to St Salvator s College at the age of 13, because of his intellectual mind. He gained curiosity in the subject theology. Theology remained very important to him, although he left college before he could even receive his degree. After leaving college, many believe that he traveled the world to further his education. As Napier grew older, theology was still very important to him. People even thought he knew how to do magic, simply because of what he believes in. People also thought he was strange due to him putting a black spider in a box so he could carry it with him while traveling (Famous Mathematicians ). Troops would match from countries to countries, crossing mountains, trial through the forest, and wander the desert to meet with their enemy in battle. The only problem with the troops traveling so far for so long is that before the war ever starts, the men were fatigued and casualty rates were higher than they should be. By the Korean War, an amazing machine was introduced to the military ranks, turning the tide in warfighting and troop survivability. The current ratio provides the best single indicator of the extent, which assets that are expected to be converted to cash fairly quickly cover the claims of short term creditors. This analysis reflects a comparison for Variable Cost and Absorption costing using Sales:60,000 units Production:80,000 units Ending Inventory:20,000 units Based on these analyses I have made several recommendations along with pros and cons to aid in the decision making process. I recommend that we use absorption costing over variable costing. Absorption costing is a method where ...fixed manufacturing costs are inventoriable costs (Datar, et al, 2009). That is, inventory absorbs all manufacturing costs. In the absorption metho there does not need to be a distinction between fixe and variable costs. We should experience some of the following positives after implementing JIT: Supply Chain Management: The JIT inventory model may assist in being more efficient in the way we handle supply chains and use our parts to assemble products. We can provide lower costs throughout the manufacturing process; which can be passed on to our customers. With our lower costs, we could produce a more affordable product for our customers and thereby help to stay ahead of our competitors. Reduction of Waste: By maintaining our current method we are housing products that go unused and/or become obsolete. This causes us to sell product at a reduced price often less than cost or we must dump the product with no money gained at all. The JIT inventory model should help to address this situation and by housing fewer products in the warehouses we could address our customer needs quicker and be open to customized orders. Reduction in Warehouse Costs: It can be costly to keep excess inventory on hand. By moving to JIT we may be able to reduce the number of warehouses we currently have as well as eliminate excess storage. Improved Customer Relations: Adopting the JIT model will allow for better servicing of our customers. Having greater control of the manufacturing process will make it easier to respond to our customers needs and any changes they may have or require. While I have high lited the positives above we must also consider possible negative aspects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Betty Friedan was born on February 4, 1921, at a time when women were allowed to vote, however, they were not respected in the workplace. Friedan was a revolutionary writer and women s rights activist, who worked to bring women the same equality as men. Although women were allowed to vote, they were not allowed to hold government positions, and they were treated poorly if they did have a job. • 9. The Roots Of Lean Manufacturing Production managers are faced with many challenges within their facilities such as managing inventories, controlling waste, and managing an ever changing production schedule. Managing product flows can be difficult when balancing supply chain inventories with demand changes or scheduling problems due to throughput variations. Several methods for managing these challenges have been developed through the years and each have their own advantages and disadvantages for different applications. The methods discussed in this paper will be limited to the Theory of Constraints, Just in Time, and Material Requirements Planning. All three methods are designed to manage different aspects of a manufacturing facility s product flow but all three were ultimately developed as an optimization strategy for the manufacturing process. The roots of Lean Manufacturingis one of the earliest management strategies to be developed to address the challenges for production control and may well have been the birth of strategic production control as we know it today. LEAN MANUFACTURING At the end of the 18th century Benjamin Franklin wrote about reducing waste in Poor Richard s Almanac and this may very well have been the starting point for waste reduction thinking. At the beginning of the 20th century Henry Ford was the first person to truly integrate a production process with waste reduction, inventory control, and time management in mind. This paved the way for Lean Manufacturing strategies to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Rhetorical Questions In My Last Duchess By Robert Browning The poem My Last Duchess is a historical event that involves the Duke of Ferrara and Alfonso who lived in the 16th century. Robert Browning My Last Duchess presents a narrative about a recently widowed Duke who talks with an emissary had come to an arranged marriage with another lady from a powerful and wealthy family. In the perspective of Duke, power and wealth were integral in marriage and was determined to be married to a wealthy lady from a famous family. As the Dukeorients the emissary through the palace, he stops and shows a portrait of the late Duchess who was a lovely and young girl. The Duke then begins by stating information about the picture and then to the Duchess. Duke claims that the Duchess flirted with everyone and did not appreciate the history of the family: gift of a nine hundred years old name. (33) However, when an individual continues to read the poem, it is evident that the Duke played an important role in killing the lady. Duke states that he gave commands; / Then all smiles stopped together (45 46) he used these words to define the death of his beloved Duchess. The aim of the essay is to analyze literary devices that emphasize the content of the poem, which includes rhetorical questions, exclamation mark, and em dash. Browning has used extensively rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions are questions that are posted in a literary work that does not need an answer: the strategic aims of rhetorical questions are for emphasizing an issue or creating an object. Duke indicates the aspect of misogyny through stating Will t please you sit and look at her? I said. (5) This is not a suggestion but indicates an aspect of command especially when he completes the state with I said. Reading the poem shows that the Duke never appreciated women or had a negative perspective of women, which may have contributed to the death of Duchess. The approach taken is a form of objectification of women, which may have been right at the time but the current society frown about it. In addition, the Duke wants the reader to sympathize with him and he states A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad, (22) indicating that he lacks the wording for his comments. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the book. Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama was cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having also a black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites because of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who held the view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people who loved, cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack. Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. We had a power nap at the hotel after lunch. Then we went to Chapora Fort that played an important role in history in defending the Portuguese from the attacks of Marathas. After spending some time at the top of the fort we headed towards the Vagator beach. It s a small and beautiful beach with a very less crowd. We spend some quality time together and saw the lovely sunset over the sea. We had some lovely conversation that realizes me how special she is for me. • 16. Andrew Marvell, “to His Coy Mistress” Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress In To His Coy Mistress the speaker carefully constructs a subtle and logical argument as to why his addressee should sexually unite with him. The speaker attempts this proposition through finesse in manipulating reason, form and imagery. The reasoning employed would be familiar to a reader educated in Renaissance England, as it is reminiscent of classical philosophical logic, entailing a statement, a counter statement and a resolution. In line with this method Marvell s speaker codes his argument in classical imagery. To understand this argument I will be approaching the poem in three clearly defined sections, which are denoted in the poem with indented lines. The first of these section... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next section runs from lines 21 to 32, here the speaker moves away from the hypothetical to reality but retains the melodramatic language used in the previous section to sustain the tenacity of his points. Time here is portrayed as chasing the speaker as opposed to being something the speaker is in control of as in the end of the last section. This is done using the image of a winged chariot (l.22), this has classical associations with Greek mythology which relates to his form of argument. The meter of the poem is restrictively regular, this structure emphasises the idea that time is constantly progressing; reflecting the speaker s argument. Space is no longer inhabited by images of movement and life like the rivers previously mentioned but instead: before us lie / Deserts of vast eternity (ll. 23 4). The desert has strong connotations with deathliness, an issue that the speaker gruesomely develops upon and progresses within this section. The speaker implies on lines 26 7 that the only exploration of the mistress s body that will be undertaken will be by the worms that are decomposing her body if she remains in her coy state. This thought that her sexuality should not be wasted is elaborated upon with a crude pun on line 29: And your quaint honor turn to dust which, as the Norton Anthology of Poetry explains in the footnote, is a play on the Middle English noun queynte which means female genitals. The Effect Of Proper Methods Of Teaching Computer Science MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTER SCIENCE Thomas Trunko Missouri University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Science Abstract This research is focused on the effects and proper methods of teaching Computer Science (CS) topics to students below the undergraduate level, mostly students in middle or high school. Most middle and high schools in the world today do not include CS courses into their curriculum. There have been many researchers looking into the benefits of learning CS, such as teaching students to work together as a group, among other skills. Most of the research used in this study will be academic journals and articles focused around the topic of teaching students the beginner ideas of CS, such as logic and programming. These articles are best for this topic since the research is looking into the best methods of teaching, and the benefits of teaching the topics to students at a younger age. These articles will be analyzed by looking at possible solutions and benefits to implementing CS courses into a middle and high school setting. The results include how through the course of learning about CS most students were able to learn the skills of teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. The results lead to the conclusion that schools should implement these courses to help advance technology in many ways, including better computers, phones, and security. Along with advancing technology, this also will help students along another path that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper I will outline the problems of the pedagogical approach the United States federal government took in light of the War on Drugs on the wide public education on drug use. While these scare tactics give an appearance of deterrence there was a study cited in the article by Scientific American, conducted that teenagers were just as likely to use drugs after through these abstinence based programs than if they didn t get any information at all. The article also found a fatal flaw in the DARE campaigns pedagogy, it was the lack of student in student role play on how to handle social situations with drugs. Bringing in the longitudinal study from a reputable source reinforces the argument against the DARE programs pedagogy. Not only did they show that has the Nancy Reagan philosophy been ineffective, the article subtly made a point to highlight how wasteful it must have been to use our tax money to fund ineffective police educational programs. While no statistics were shown, the fact that these programs were found to be highly ineffective gives this argument quite a bit of merit. Parallel to this, in 1986 congress passed the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act which mandated a zero tolerance policy to drugs in schools. Edgar Allan Poe s writing style can typically be identified as dark and gothic, yet euphonic. Poe s predictable style is clearly demonstrated to his readers. Edgar Allan Poe raises the level of dark romanticism in the stories, The Raven and The Pit and the Pendulum by using symbolism as a representation of death, by creating unreliable narrators, and by using a haunting tone to set the weary mood. The progression of symbolism in the stories to represent the horror of death is shown throughout Poe s work. In Poe s The Raven, . The raven brings the narrator to the sense that he will never be able to see his lost love, Lenore, again. This causes the speaker to wonder if his, soul from out that shadow... shall be lifted the raven replies nevermore (130). The shadow casted by the raven identifies the death of his lover, and the speaker has the realization that he will never regain the feeling of happiness and that he may never escape his shadow. Although there is increasing controversies that surround producing estimates for valuing a human life, it is imperative to understand the importance of reaching an economic value attached to a human life. Thus, standard HK estimates incorporate a zero value for persons without labor income such as retired individuals with only investment or pension income , (Landefeld amp; Seskin, 1982). The advantages in using the HK model are two fold. Primarily there is relative ease in using the HK model as the data that is necessary to compute the model is not difficult to obtain. Moreover, the HK model provides numerical estimates from indisputable measures without including any objective numbers based on unquantifiable data. The object of the HK model is to place a monetary value on human life from purely economic and productive measures by measuring labor force participation and projected earnings, in which the HK model succeeds. According to Card amp; Mooney however, the HK model has two main weaknesses First it takes no account of either the existing decision making processes in the Health Service or the views of the individual patients at risk. Secondly, it implies that the objective of health care is to add to the productive capacity of the nation, which is true but it is not the sole objective , (Card amp; Mooney, 1977). In light of the limitations in the HK model, a model that takes a more comprehensive measure of the private valuation individuals place on small reductions in risk and the probability of death. • 39. Analysis Of Robert Frost s Poem And The Thawing Wind In Robert Frost s poem To the Thawing Wind, in the literal sense, he is asking the Southwest wind to come, melt the snow and bring spring, but symbolically he is tired of the winter and wants warm weather. He wants to burst out of his cabin and have a good time, not thinking about poetry. The poet has been confined in his winter cabin and is wanting the windand rain to melt the snow, so it will change his winter isolation. He has been longing for the thawing wind because that is when spring is coming. He is anticipating spring to come because it will bring him inspiration and the freedom needed to be able to do new things and enjoy everything good that comes with this season. In the literalsense, Frost speaks to the seasons and describes his distaste for the weather; however, figuratively he desires to go outside to be a part of the process of spring and feel alive again. In the first line of Frost s poem, he is ordering the wind to Come with rain, O loud Southwester! Speaking literally, he is telling the southwest wind to come with rain so it can melt the snow and bring spring. His use of the word loud means he is asking for the wind to come and wake up his household. Figuratively, he is wanting spring to come because it will give him the chance to be outside and enjoy nature. In the next line, he mentions birds when he asks for the wind to Bring the singer, bring the nester. During spring, birds come and make their nests and sing because of the warmer ... This painting is one which portrays thirty four total figures, two of which were important members of a militia at the time, Willem van Ruytenburch and Frans Banning Cocq. Now, because Rembrandt was proficient at his lighting and shading skills, and the way he incorporated light and darkness to focus on certain aspects of his work, this piece focuses on these two, but also shared by a young girl wearing yellow in the background, and these three are the central focuses in this specific work. Eighteen members of this militia total commissioned and paid 1,600 guilders to complete The Night Watch. Back then, this was a tremendous amount of money. There are rumors that speculate around this painting, and one of the most profound is that the people who commissioned him to do this painting hated it and were disgusted by it. Some say this was the turning point in his life because he lost a lot of respect because of the feedback he got, and apparently lead more and more people to not commission paintings from him. This quote has been very inspirational to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow. Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership seemed to naturally be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw them as my leaders. Those traits are what made me choose to follow them. The topics discussed are the state of nature, common wealth, a civil society, equality of men, and much more. In my writing, I will be discussing a few of these topics. I will be explaining how John Locke s account of the state of nature set up and support his argument for a liberal political structure of civil society. John Lockebegins the Second Treatise of Government by discussing the state of nature. This state of nature that he talks about is the equality and freedom all men receive at birth and the liberty they have when it comes to their lives and property. This means that the decisions a man makes cannot be narrowed by another man, making them all living in the same state, also known as the state of nature. Locke then quotes Richard Hooker on the obligation to mutual love amongst all men (8). Hooker talks about how equality is the fundament of a civil society and how if a man wants something, he must give it first. John Locke then talks about how when a man...
