The Japanese yen s appreciation to record highs against the euro and relative strength against the
US dollar has led to a boom in outward foreign direct investment (FDI). Exporters are transferring
their operations from Japan to other economies, where parts and labour costs are lower. п‚ђJapan s
current account surplus could move into a deficit sooner than 2015 if more companies shift
production abroad to combat losses from a strong Japanese yen. In 2011 Japanese firms
purchased a record number of firms across the rest of Asia. Worldwide the number of Japanese
purchases reached 455, only just short of its record of 463 in 1990. п‚‘Japanese firms are also
acquiring shares in natural resource companies. Mitsubishi spent more than $5 billion buying a
quarter of mining giant Anglo American s Chilean copper unit, and trading group Itochu bought a
$1 billion stake in a US oil and gas firm. п‚’The Japanese Prime Minister has encouraged the trend.
We will take advantage of the appreciating Japanese yen to support Japanese companies in
purchasing foreign companies and acquiring resource interests, he said. п‚“However, Japanese
authorities have signalled there are concerns about a further appreciation of the Japanese yen. The
central bank said last month that it plans to increase the funds available for currency intervention.

Kid Kustomer Eric Schlosser Analysis
Paper on Kid Kustomer by Eric Schlosser It is easier to influence someone who cannot
comprehend that they are being influenced. This is ultimately Eric Schlosser s main argument in
his case against the mass marketing scheme aimed at children. Our subconscious influences our
decisions more than we are probably aware. As we grow older, we recognize this; children,
however, do not possess the same capacity to discern this as we do and so, their naivety is
exploited by marketing companies. These companies make their ads to appeal to the factors their
target audience desperately (albeit unconsciously) seek. Whether it be by creating a sense of
belonging, exclusiveness, and contentedness to the customers, their tactics are subtle enough to
lure a wide array of people. Due to the fact that I myself was once a kid, I can personally attest
Schlosser s claim that, [kids have a] fundamental need for status and belonging (2002). I did not
have a need per se for the hot new trend back in grade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether you are 5 or 55, there is always going to be some group that you will want to be a part
of. The marketing giants picked up on this tendency and capitalized it. As mentioned in Kid
Kustomers , the creation of Disney s Mickey Mouse Club and its rise in the 1980s and 1990s
expanded the horizons of traditional marketing. Kids now received personalized messages catered
to them (Schlosser, 2002). These messages helped to link the kids to their favourite brand and
forge a connection. If anything, the kids probably thought Mickey Mouse was actually messaging
them and probably ran around, smugly telling all their friends the Mickey Mouse had messaged
them and that they were friends. Companies like McDonalds did not use the same approach as
Disney, but theirs was just as effective. In fact, McDonalds introduction of collectible toys not only
attracted eager kids who wanted to have a full set, but it also attracted adult

Sacco Vs Vanzetti
Upon his death sentence, Bartolomeo Vanzetti said, I wish to tell you that I am an innocent man. I
never committed any crime but sometimes some sin. I wish to forgive some people for what they
are now doing to me. On August 23, 1927, two innocent men were executed by electrocution in
Boston. Those two men were Sacco and Vanzetti, who were treated unjustly for prejudiced reasons.
Both men supported anarchist groups that promoted warfare against the government. Sacco and
Vanzetti received an unfair trial because of their radical political views, tainted witnesses in court,
and denial of a new trial.
Nicola Sacco was born in Torremaggiore, Italy, in 1891. Sacco was sixteen when he moved to the
United States. When he immigrated, he worked whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the police were looking for evidence to use against Sacco they found a cap and claimed
that it was his. He denied owning the cap, and so they had him try it on infront of the jury. He
repeatedly said the cap did not fit (Linder). As the court was trying to find evidence against
Vincetti they could not come up with anything stable. So, in front of the court he said this,
Eugene Debs say that not even a dog something like that not even a dog that kill the chickens
would have been found guilty by American jury with the evidence that Commonwealth have
produced against us. I say that not even a leprous dog would have his appeal refused two times
by the Supreme Court of Massachusetts not even a leprous dog ( Sacco and Vanzetti Case ).
Although some say the trial was fair there are still a lot of people who believe it was not. Three
months after the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti the state of Massachusetts passed a law stating,
in any case in which a defendant has been convicted of murder in the first degree, the Supreme
Judicial Court must review both the law and the evidence ( Sacco Vanzetti: Justice ). Also, in 1977
Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation claiming that Sacco and Vanzetti
had been treated unjustly. Furthermore the case is still debated a lot today because it is a perfect
example of domination over the

The Travelling Salesman Problem
Travelling Salesman Problem
Institution
Name
Introduction
A salesman is required to visit all the cities with a known distance between every two cities
keeping in mind that the cities have to be visited once. The problem facing the salesman is to
determine the shortest possible route the salesman has to use to visit the towns just once and goes
back to the original city.
The Travelling Salesman Problem first statement was made by a Viennese mathematician Karl
Menger. It brought a connection and relation with the definition of the curve length proposed by
Menger that stated that the stretch of a curves distance can be defined as the lower limit upper
bound of the groups of all numbers that can be contained by taking each group of points of the
curve and producing the shortest length of the polygonal graph. This problem is called the
messenger problem.
The Travelling Salesman Problem can be stated as where a network has n cities or nodes, and one
of the nodes (node 1) is the origin and the cost of travelling which include the ... Show more content

Research paper on the beatles
The Story of My Search
Everyone, Americans and Europeans alike, have heard of, if not grown off of, a generation and
culture started by an ensemble of four shaggy haired Liverpool musicians that the world went mad
over; no one can deny that no greater event impacted today s pop culture than Beatlemania . But not
everyone has heard the story behind the Beatles, who were they? How did they become the band
and how did they make it big? What s the story of their struggle?
Before researching, I already knew a lot about the Beatles. I knew that the band was made up of
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They started the famous British
Invasion of the 1960 s on American pop/rock music, and they started a craze that ... Show more

There he met his first wife, Cynthia and Stuart Sutcliff. Although Sutcliff had very little good
musical ability he bought a bass guitar and joined The Quarrymen (a pre Beatle, Lennon creation).
Next came the co genius of this phenomenon, Paul McCartney. Born on June 18, 1942 to Jim and
Mary Patricia Monin, Paul was the eldest of two boys in a very close knit family. He first
attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School but was soon switched to Joseph Williams
Primary School at Gateacre because their mother insisted on the best education for her boys.
Paul used to love to listen to the radio and was very influenced by his dad who played in a little
band but eventually had to give it up because he got false teeth and couldn t play the trumpet
properly anymore. John s mother died of breast cancer when he was only fourteen, which
devastated the family and launched John into spending some of his time writing songs, which
would later be the pay off of his life.
George Harold Harrison was born to Harry and Louise French Harrison on February 25, 1943 in
Wavertree as the youngest of four children. Like John, George s first school was Dovedale Primary

ride home and soon became friends, both sharing a love for music. As a kid, George was often

How Is Richard Parker Similar In Life Of Pi
Life of Pi Essay Piscine and Richard Parker are two different species; Pi is a human and Richard
Parker a bengal tiger. Stuck in a lifeboat with a limited amount of food and water, a tiger and a
human are not going to be good companions. Eventually, one or the other is going to survive, and
the other will not. Yann Martelcreates an alternate idea. Throughout the book, Yann Martel shows
the importance of using your enemies to help get through situations. Richard Parker also helps by
catching flying fish, which is a good source of food. Soon, they start Yann Martel places a human

and didn t want to be in the situation by himself. Once, he saw Richard Parker, he said, Don t
give up, please. Come to the lifeboat. (Martel 121). After thinking over the situation, he realized,
a bengal tiger was not the kind of company he wanted. Pi said to himself, In a few seconds you ll
be aboard and we ll be together. Wait a second. Together? We ll be together? Have I gone mad?
(Martel 123). By including this in the context, Yann Martel shows that if the two are together, it is

Future And Future Of Implants
Future of Implants
When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: I
expect that it will expand. He explained that current DBS technologies are seeing expanding
indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new
domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole
field of brain computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic
limbs). This is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real world
application. Additional implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The
future of those is less certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application
as time goes on [Marko].
One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size;
nanoscale implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased
longevity so that there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With
continued research and development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the
Blue Brain Project, implants will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This
is extremely important, for millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them
by a disease.
Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep

Juxtaposition In On The Rainy River
In the section On the Rainy River from the novel The Things They Carried, author Tim O Brien
describes his difficulty in choosing between going to war or going to Canada. O Brien
implements many different rhetorical and stylistic strategies to express his dilemma. His use of
juxtaposition, rhetorical questions, and somber diction enhance his frustration of his two choices.
O Brien uses juxtaposition to compare his option of running away to Canada with what he would
rather do: live his life. O Brien describes a scene he has imagined of himself running away. In this
dream like state O Brien sees himself getting chased by the Border Patrol with helicopters and

named Elroy. Naturally after spending six days together it would seem logical that Elroy would
have some question. The obvious questions, as O brien calls them, Why was I there? Why
alone? Why so preoccupied? are questions that are never asked by Elroy and are never directly
answered (47). While the answers become apparent to the readers as the section continues,
another question arises: Why did Elroy not ask these questions? The answer to that is because
he already knew. Elroy understands why O Brien is staying there so he does not need to ask
him. It is clear that Elroy understands the dire situation he is in when at the end of the section
Elroy leaves an envelope with some money and a note saying emergency fund, (51). These
questions and Elroy himself help make it clear that not only is this situation difficult for O Brien,
but for others as well. Elroy understands that this is a sensitive issue and O Brien is the only one
who can make the decision, so it is better for him to keep to himself and not intrude on O Brien s

The biggest trial and misfortune for Ernst Von Bergmann came with the death of Crown Prince
and Kaiser, Frederick. Crwon Prince and Kaiser suffered from hoarseness which means having a
vocal tone characterized by weakness of intensity and excessive breathiness, the hoarse voice of
the auctioneer . It began when The Crown Prince was diagnosed by another Doctor, named
Gerhardt. Gerhardt saw that the Prince had an irregular projection of the left vocal cord and
diagnosed him with Polypoid (nonmalignant growth or tumor protruding from the mucous lining
of an organ such as the nose, bladder, or intestine, often causing obstruction) which continued to
grow. A few months later, on May of 1887, The Prince was diagnosed with Epithelioma (benign
or malignant tumor derived from epithelial cells. Bergmann came to see the Prince and
recommend laryngofissure and also removal of the affected cord, and possibly part of the thyroid
cartilage if it was affected. Since a well known Doctor name Hahn in Berlin had successfully
operated for the same disease.
A couple of days later, another Doctor confirmed the diagnosys of Bergmann, a Doctor name
Tobold. They brought it to the Crown Prince and the Prince also agreed with to have the surgery
performed. The complete laryngectomy had been specifically excluded but on request of Queen

The Anasazi Indians
It was during the time period that Christ was born that the Anasazi Indians appeared in the Four
Corners area which is the area where the boundaries of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado
meet. For the over a thousand years the Anasazi thrived and built their homes into the side of
cliffs. These cliff dwellings could only be reached by climbing and made for a great defense
system against enemies; some dwellings reached five stories in height and contained hundreds of
rooms. Many of the elaborate cliff dwellings and terraced apartment houses built of stone, mud, and
wood that dot the Four Cornersregion still stand today and date back to about 9,000 CE., but the
people who comprised this desert culture did not begin to settle into an agricultural lifestyle
until around A.D. 400. The Anasazi, which is a Navajo word meaning the ancient ones , likely
received corn, squash and beans, which are a prime source of protein, added to their diet and the
knowledge to raise them from their southern neighbors in Mexico. Vegetable crops provided a
reliable food source that made an increase in population possible and also allowed time for other
interests such as religion, art, ritual, public works and handicrafts. This allowed the Anasazi
society continued to evolve and progress. The ancient ones also possessed beans, a prime source
of protein and new varieties of corn. Other innovations included the bow and arrow which
eventually replaced spears and at least two varieties of dogs

Word Christian Research Paper
What does the Word Christian Mean?
1.What does the word Christian mean in the university s name?
The word Christian has been used extremely, and in some cases strangely, for over 2000 years.
Historically, it was born in the ancient city of Antioch. There, according to Acts 11:26, the
disciples were first called Christians (ESV). Since that first century usage, Christian has defined
religious groups sects, armies, athletic endeavors, political parties, and a host of entities and ideas
which probably would make those original disciples shake their heads in disbelief. The Christian

Evangelical is unique as a Christian identifier in that it describes a movement within orthodox
Christianity which transcends denominational and even confessional boundaries. Evangelicals exist
among Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Lutherans, Mennonites lots of denominations!
Though several people have attempted to define this movement, the most broadly accepted
definition was crafted by British historian David Bebbington. In his book Evangelicalism in
Modern Britain (1989) he noted four distinctive, or characterizations, about evangelicals which
have well described the movement all along its 400 plus year history and throughout all the
denominations and global regions where it is found: conversions, the belief that lives need to be
changed; activism, the expression of the gospel in effort; Biblicism, a particular regard for the Bible
and what may be called crusaderism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (Bebbington,
1989, p. 3). Please note that powerful Republican voting bloc in the U.S. is not one of the

The Degenerate Art Movement
I m going to be explaining 3 glass stores that I ve grow up with; I have many experiences with all
of the stores, some I visit still while some have been just a few visits left for the past. They all are
targeting the same consumers just all on different levels of the same market segment. All of the
shops target people who buy glasswhether they be glass pipes, glass marbles, glass sculptures, as
well custom metal jewelry in some. The Degenerate art movement has recently taken major
interest from many; recently a huge spike in new collectors, artists, as well many new galleries
and stores. The Degenerate Art Movement I am talking about is basically the glass blowers out
there who are going against the social norms. They are artists that are taking a medium used for
art, and a medium that has been used to make pipes and bongs and fuse the 2 ideas of art and
pipes or water pipes into one. They are using glass pipes as the way to portray their talent. To
some they laugh at the fact, but what they don t know is that there are water pipes out there
selling for anywhere from $1,000 all the way up to $30,000. To some they are recognized as
modern day living Picasso s, and others just dirty hippies making money off a drug culture.
These artists don t just make pipes though; they make things such as glass marbles where
beautiful images and mind bending ideas are encased for one to view and enjoy forever. They
make amazing things like cups and plates to eat off of. I ve seen some

Health Symptoms And Risk Factors
[Introduction]
All human beings share the innate liking of sweetness since we experience from mother s milk.
Now, sugar and sugar rich foods are the most popular and worldwide consuming (McGee 645).
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) was introduced to the food and beverage industry as a substitution
to sucrose because of its higher degree of sweetness and the decreasing use of sugar supply during
World War II (White). Over a half century, scientists still dispute the safety of HFCS to health.
Some studies point out that HFCS has equivalent effects as sucrose and does not account for risk
factors for health at normal consumption levels. However, several studies conducted by Standhop,
Akar, Hoebel, and Collison have shown that HFCS shows greatly problems in health. Therefore,
people should be aware of sugar consumption from HFCS because HFCS introduces health
symptoms as cardiovascular disease and risk factors of type II diabetes.
[Talk about HFCS]
Nowadays, Americans tend to consume more excessive sweet products because of the
accessibility of HFCS. Since HFCS can provide sweeter taste than table sugar at the same doses,
it rapidly gains market share in food and drink industry after the late 1960s. HFCS improved
functionality and cost savings and HFCS used in industry rose to a peak in 1999. It is mainly used
in process foods including canned foods, dairy products, cereals, candies, desserts, and beverages.

Analysis Of Gossip Girl
The television series Gossip Girl encompasses many aspects of current day society. Based off the
popular book series, the show follows Manhattan s elite, and showcases the lives of the
upperclassmen teens, focusing on their relationships, school lives and careers. When looking at
Gossip Girl from a sociological perspective, there s many hidden themes that are brought to light.
While also showcasing some controversial issues, Gossip Girl reflects many themes that can been
seen in society. Contrary to some belief this series displays a substantial amount of feminism, with
the use of powerful female characters, but lacks the accurate representation of social classand
contains numerous gender stereotypes.
In addition to the fact that the show largely surrounds the leading female protagonists, Blair Waldorf
and Serena van der Woodsen, there is a great deal of feminism being shown by these Upper East
Side women. To begin with, Blair Waldorf can be seen as the shows most driven and head
strong female, who goes about her life in an unabashedly feminist way. She demonstrates female
power and dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank.
Despite her social standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being
handed to her and chooses to work for her goals. This can be shown in both the books and the
television series, as Blair strives to get a 4.0 grade point average, enrolls herself in AP classes,

Strategic Analysis Of Under Armour Case
As consultants, we decided to do a strategic analysis on Under Armour Inc., an American
manufacturer of footwear, sports and casual apparel. We selected Under Armour because of their
renowned reputation in the U.S. and because of their recent fluctuating financials. The most
noticeable fluctuation was the $100 million dropin profits, which was initially attributed to a lack
of seasonal sales in the beginning of 2017. However, we discovered that a lack of seasonal sales
was not the sole factor that contributed to the recent poor sales but that it was the recent strategic
shifts by the company. These strategic moves were categorized into four groups: Branding,
Investment, Identifying Trends and Distribution.
We, therefore, recommend that the company investment into the new growing trend of of

Musical Theatre
An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best
performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on
paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical
theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the
backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on
paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that
the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone,
and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content

That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character,
because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their
character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on
Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from
year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact
same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character
in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my
performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between
two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted
and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith
played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines
differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and
personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a
text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one
is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings,
emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s
shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in
the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to
relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who
never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist

Project financing discipline includes understanding the rationale for project financing, preparation
of the financial plan, assessment of the risks, designing the financing mix, and raising the funds. In
addition, one must understand the cogent analyses of why some project financing plans have
succeeded while others have failed. A knowledge base is required regarding the design of
contractual arrangements to support project financing; issues like the host of legislative provisions,
government and administrative constrains, public and private infrastructure partnerships, public

borrowing capacity; how to prepare cash flow projections and use them to measure expected rates of

New Testament Synopsis Essay
The basic story of the New Testament is that Jesus Christ is God incarnate as our Savior. All the
Gospel authors, whether first hand witnesses or faithful writers, described ways in which Jesus of
Nazareth fulfilled Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah to come. The death and
resurrection of Jesus are pivotal to the story of the Old and New Testament, as the climax and
fulfillment of the salvation hopes expressed from the beginning of recorded history. The Gospels
not only describe the birth and death of Jesus of Nazareth, but detail his life and teaching including
minutiae which parallel portions of the Old Testament and one would think this truth would have

Women in Art Essay
Women in Art
Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed great and many individuals have been
labeled masters of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as
great or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last
quarter of the 20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women
artists have ever created or been appreciated to the level of greatness that perpetually befalls their
male counterparts. The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be
anything but subordinate and unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. Giving a brief
history of gender discrimination in the art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The study of why women artists have systematically been erased from history and why currently the
exhibition of women s art is not valued as much as the male artists continues. There have been
many theories behind the eradication of women artists from history. At the beginning of the Women

Why have there been no great women artists? In here article, she addressed her own question
offering one of the first consciously feminist challenges to the established canons of art history.
Her query proved to be a rallying cry for women artists in the fervent days of the Women s
Liberation movement and offered fragments of a manifesto to women artists, and others, intent on
reexamining and ultimately restructuring the discipline (Morse, 1992). Nochlin argues that
contemporary feminists contend that there is a different greatness between men s art and women
s art. This view of art undermines the general discipline. It categorizes its value in order to give it
a higher classification among gender. Many women are trying to delve back into history and
recapture any trace of artistic women in order to document and arrange their

Caribbean Literature 1900 1929 In the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, during the year of 1900

Thomas Redcam (1870 1933) and Claude McKay (1878 1972). Thomas Redcam was a Jamaican
poet who came from Irish ancestry. Throughout his life he promoted Jamaican literature and was a

Though you cas me from your breas An trample me to deaf; My heart will trus you none de less,

Jamaica as well. In this poem Jamaica McKay believes that his country Jamaica is one that can do
no wrong.
Once again the ideas of nature, faith and love continue in his next poem Flame Heart but this
time the idea of nature becomes the more predominant one. In this work Mckay speaks how he
returns back to Jamaica. Throughout the poem he mentions aspects of nature in the land that he
can not recall but then mentions the one part of the land he remembers so vividly. McKay
speaks of poinsettia plants he remembers so well. He speaks of their beauty and color, I have
forgotten much, but I still remember The poinsettia s red, blood red in warm December (McKay,

he dives even deeper when mention of climate comes in. This statement about the poinsettia is
mentioned a few times in the poem giving off a strong vibe and conviction. Everything to the
speaker is a blur but through his blurs he is able to remember that red blood poinsettia plant in

The Physics Of Chemistry Class
In Chemistry class, the one word you will hear repeatedly is the atom. But in the beginning, it
was never this way. Before people had a rough idea what things were made up of, we all thought
objects were made up of the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air. This thought was given to
us by Aristotle, who was a popular philosopher and scientist in 322 B.C. Then one day, a man
named Democritus proclaimed that every substance is made up of tiny, indivisible particles. The
Greek said that these particles were called atomon , and they all varied in shape depending on their
properties. But this idea was rejected by leading philosophers at the time, which was around 400

Later on in the 20th century came a man named Earnest Rutherford. This physicist conducted an
experiment that is widely known in the chemistry world: the gold foil experiment. The experiment
went like this: there was an alpha particle source that would pass through gold foil in a vacuum. The
outcome of this experiment was that the particle went through, but went in different directions. This
forced Rutherford to conclude that an atom was much more than just open space with scattered
electrons, showing that Thomson s Plum Pudding Model to be inaccurate. Rutherford had also
concluded that an atom must have a positively charged center that contained most of it s atomic
mass. Rutherford was a major contribution to chemistry, discovering the nucleus and the proton.
Rutherford s discovery helped other scientists by his discovery. English physicist James Chadwick,
for example. When Rutherford proposed that an electron and a proton could combine together to
make a neutral particle, it came to the question what else was in a nucleus addition to protons. But
there was no evidence of this. Another experiment had caught Chadwick s attention: an experiment
by Frederic and Irene Joliot Curie. The pair had studied the radiation from beryllium as it hit a
paraffin wax target. The couple had found that the radiation hit the protons, causing them to be
knocked loose from hydrogen atoms in that target. The protons also recoiled with a high velocity.

Summary Of Magnus Chase And The Gods Of Asgard
For the most part, everyone has friends. Some people show more loyalty to their friends than
others. For example, Magnus Chase from the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. As
Magnus attempts to stop Loki and not die again, he relies on his friends as his rock. As a result, in
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer , Rick Riordanuses hyperboles,
irony, and the antagonist to help show Magnus unrelenting loyalty to his friends. First of all, in
the book of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard from Rick Riordan, one way Magnus loyalty
is shown is through hyperboles. For example, in the 25th chapter, it describes the battle between
the dragon Mr. Alderman, Magnus, Jack, Blitzen, and Hearthstone. In the book series, to kill a
dragon affects someone s fate, and Magnus decides that he won t put Hearthstone through affecting
his own fate. It says, My insides fluttered at the thought of killing the dragon, but there was no way
I d let Hearthstone take the fall for that. Riordan, page 221. This evidence is significant because it
shows the hyperbolethat shows Magnus s allegiance to Hearthstone. The hyperbole in this statement
is that his insides fluttered ; but, in this statement, Magnus is willing to harm his own fate for
Hearthstone. This shows a great amount of loyalty, something that many people may not have been
able to do. The evidence shows that Magnus is willing to put his own skin on the line for his
friend(s). In the end, Magnus shows

How will group and team collaboration facilitate the success of training?
Many times workplaces establish training programs that are focused on individuals completing the
training instead of focusing on team training. With so many changes occurring with the economy
and the communication industry it is important to keep the staff informed of changes that are
occurring and that the whole team is onboard with new training. When training is focused on team
collaboration for the completion of it there are many benefits that will help the team as a whole and
the individuals on achieving success with the new material. Some of the benefits that can be noted
with team collaboration is increased productivity, better team communication skills, brings the team
to focus on the group success rather than just individual, and increases employee engagement. The
benefits that come from team collaboration impact training. When there is a strong collaboration
the team is united and focused on the goal of the training. Through the collaboration the training
material can be discussed and understood by the team as a whole any if any questions come from
it they can be answered. Working as a team to complete training is not just a win for the

Port Everglades Case Analysis
Imagine being hired as a consultant for the Port Everglades by the management. As a consultant,
you were hired to look at situations that are happening at the port over the past and current year.
After analyzing the port, you have to recommend changes that can improve the Port. Which in the
future can result in the Portbeing one of the top harbors in Floridathat attracts a lot of different
businesses and gain money for the community. To start your new job as a consultant, you have to
look at the Harbor s history and current situation, market forecast, do a SWOT analysis, Horizontal
analysis, vertical analysis, and news that has come up in the media about the Port. Also at the end
of the job the advisor would have to give the company their... Show more content on

For example, to find out how much the company Operating revenue has increase since 2013 the
consultant would have to take the amount of Revenue the company made in 2015 which was
$153,324,384 and divide by the amount the company had in 2013 $ 142,931,312. After doing
the calculation the consultant would have got a ratio of 104.4% of the increase in 2015 since
2013. After that to find the percent of increase in 2014 which was $153,193,953 then the
individual would divide by the base amount from 2013 $146,824,45 and there would have been a
104.3% increase. The consultant should include this ratio in their analyzation because it will
show how much the Port makes a year, even though they are under contraction trying to expand
their Port. This information would see if the Port is losing business because of the projects that
they are doing on their Port or not. Also, while doing the Horizontal analyses the advisor should
include the Ratio of increase or decrease in the firm Expenses over the years since the company
has to spend money to complete their Projects. To be able to receive this ratio the individual
would take the amount of expenses from both 2015 and 2015 and divide the amount spend in in
the year 2013 from these numbers to get the ratio of increase. For

Child Labor Reform Movement Essay
During the 1900s, America s children went to school and played. Children spent their summer in
the sun by doing outside activities like swimming as well as reading books and enjoying an ice
cream break. However, as recently as the early years of this century, there were many poor
children that did not live the same lifestyle. These children did not have time to play because they
spent their days in factories, coalmines, and in fields. Over two million children in America under
the age of 16 had jobs that consisted of twelve hours without stopping. Many children were forced
to work because many came from poor families who needed the extra help. The brutal conditions of
working long hours and unsafe environments lead some individuals to... Show more content on

During 1892, Lewis Hines graduated from high school and worked in an upholstery factory and
in the next several years Hine worked several jobs while he was studying stenography, drawing,
and sculpture. Hine eventually earned a Master s degree in education from the University of
Chicago. Hine s first passion was not photography rather it was teaching. His first job was as a
teacher at the Ethical Culture School in New York City. Hine s had a friend named Frank Manny
who was the one that convinced Lewis Hine to become the school photographer at the Ethical
Culture School, where he gained technical skills (Hine, 11). Lewis Hine started off with a ten
dollar box camera and soon after set up a dark room at school that lead him to start an after school
camera club, where he learned about art photography along the students (Freedman, 9). According
to the book Crusade for the Children, by 1908 Hine spent several years as an amateur,
photographing immigrants, Bowery inhabitants, and Lower Eastside hovel children. Soon after
Hine quit teaching because he was interested in portraying the difficulty of the poor (Trattner, 105).
Hine spent some time working for The survey magazine but later was hired by the National Child
Labor Committee by 1906 Hine started work on a freelance basis (105). According to the book

Well before I read this book, I actually did think about...
Well before I read this book, I actually did think about what the title could mean and why the
author wrote it so. Before I read this book I thought the book was about astronauts or something
ridiculous. During the book I had some ideas that The Fault In Our Stars meant a mistake or
something that predestined one s fate. I was kind of close. The title meant that the Fault is not
always in the others, but in ourselves. For instance, Hazel Grace has cancer and a chronic illness
not because she did something to cause it; It was just fate. I believe the title was just giving us a
hint of the main idea of the book. Category 1, #5 As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep:
slowly, and then all at once. Even before she admits it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Category 2, #3 If this book were to be found in the distant future, 3052 to be exact, I would think
that it was written for a more fantasy driven culture. If some random historians and sociologists
just randomly came by this book, first they d probably think what is a book, why was society so
messed up back then, and why were their books so amazing. One could conclude that their era
was one of literary prosperity. Most likely because of influences from previous eras of literature
and innovation increasing throughout time. Category 3, #1 I think that one of the characters that I
notices the most was Peter. He was the author of the book Imperial Affliction, which Hazel Grace
and Augustus Waters both read and found something in common. They both loved this story so
much that they went to Amsterdam where Peter lived and confronted him in order to find out the
untold ending. When they realize a few things about Peter (he is a total jerk, drunkard, and that he
didn t even write the end of his book) and his book, they just decide to forget him. But later on, at
the ending of the book when the tide turns and Augustus Waters washes away, Peter Van Houten
shows up and reveals his characters flaws happened because of his children s deaths. This made me
sit up and appreciate the making of this character, and the authors creativeness throughout the book.
I think the irony in this character is that many older people are like this but

MRAP Acquisition
As if it were not complex enough, the Defense Acquisition System (DAS) resides within a complex
system. Congress, industry, and national strategy all influence and affect the acquisition process.
Mass producing the effectiveness of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle (MRAP)
acquisition may tempt the amateur. However, although the unprecedented speed and strategic
leader attention afforded the MRAP acquisition resulted in relative success, the process should not
be used as a model for future acquisitions. The challenge of acquisition lays in difficult to define
metrics, shifting policies, short term leadership, and its position of a complex system within a
system. First, measuring success and failure proves elusive, making identifying meaningful change
difficult. Perhaps because of this fact, the rules change rapidly. Since its inception in 1971, the
Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 5000 series has been revised more than a dozen times a
change approximately once every three years. Well meaning and proactive defense secretaries
institute changes and then leave office prior to institutionalization. Finally, due to the complexityof
the system of systems involved, no single internal modification possesses the ability to maximize
the acquisition process. These three factors alone make acquisition and acquisition reform a
Sisyphean task. Of the three factors discussed above, strategic leadership holds the most potential to
effectively influence the

Atherosclerosis: Its incidence and importance
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of mortality and morbidity and is accounted for
almost 1 out of 5 deaths in the world. Atherosclerosis is a chronic heart disease that causes most of
the vascular deaths. The fat deposition in arterial walls progressively develop into atheroma leading
to restriction in blood circulation thus increasing risk of local thrombosis. Local thrombosis often
forms the base that leads to partial or total obstruction of the artery. At the time of birth, the
probability of a cardiovascular disease is 47%. The impact of Atherosclerosis on morbidity and

George Orwell s A Hanging Essay
In any account written by an author, real or fake, there is always a deeper goal whether it is to
persuade, inform, or just simply entertain. There is always some meaning at its heart. Sometimes,
however, messages become swayed and it becomes difficult to recognize the author s intentions in
writing. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued.
A Hangingby George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes
thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his
work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict
within Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries
responsible for carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital
punishment clear, there is fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his
possible usage of the prisoner to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog
portraying the event through the eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers
humorous words in contrast to the stark sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective,
though strong, also comes under scrutiny in its effectiveness. In order to address this piece and
analyze its methods of intention, it is preferable to first provide a summary of its events so that a
fluent discussion is allowed. The

Kidney Stone Diseases
Since the occurrence and progression of various human pathological conditions have been
proposed to have an involvement of uric acid (UA), a number of researchers have therefore
attempted to elucidate the potential roles of UA underlying the pathogenesis of UA related
diseases (1, 2). Among these, UA is well documented in kidneystone diseases since it serves as not
only a main crystalline composition of pure UA but also a principal risk factor for hyperuricosuric
calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stone disease (3, 4). These two kidney stones account for a
significant percentage of stone forming patients and have an increasing prevalence worldwide over
the past few decades. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms underlying UA related kidney stone
diseases are still not well understood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
UA can widely affect various cellular functions; therefore, the tight control of serum UA level is
necessary to maintain cellular homeostasis under normal circumstances. Kidney serves as a
major excretory organ to control a balance of UA by which excessive UA is eliminated from the
body through urine (5). Consequently, the defective renal handling of UA can cause an
imbalance in UA levels in plasma and urine, and contribute to the development of several
diseases, especially kidney stone disease (1, 4). Hyperuricosuria is typically defined as an excess
of urinary uric acid; greater than 800 mg/day in men and greater than 750 mg/day in women, which
has been recognized as one of the most common metabolic abnormalities in kidney stone patients
(6). However, potential roles of UA in renal system underlying kidney stone pathogenesis have been

Henry Martyn Robert s Rules Of Order
Henry Martyn Robert, author of Robert s Rules of Order was born in 1837 and died in 1923,
and a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. In 1863 he was asked to chair
a local town meeting at a church in New Bedford, Massachusetts but didn t know how to preside.
He assumed the assembly would behave, but the meeting was a disaster, lasted 14 hours and
really didn t accomplish anything. General Robert was very frustrated and vowed to never again
attend another meeting until he knew more about Parliamentary Law. He researched a small book
on the subject, and found some rules for DELIBERATE ASSEMBLIES with four or five motions
according to rank, two or three could not be debated, and some amended. He traveled around the
country collecting Parliamentary information and saw different interpretations of Parliamentary
Law in various organizations. **Robert saw the need for a uniform set of rules to enable civic

Rules of Order. He accomplished the major groundwork for establishing the order, rules, and

owner operated shops, and you can even find foodand flowers for your daily home needs.
Pike s was originally opened as a farmers market in 1907 and today, 110 years later it is so much
more than a place to meet the local food growers and purchase local foods. Now you can find
crafts, fresh farm foods, and even specialty food stores. The restaurants open first, many of them at

The Sunflower By Simon Wiesenthal Essay
Vince Lombardi, an American football player, and a coach, once said, Leaders aren t born, they
are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. With these words,
Lombardi highlights that people are nurtured to become a leader and a follower. For instance,
Lombardi asserts that a person is trained, whether to be a leader, or a follower, through eagerness
and determination. The book, The Sunflower, written by Simon Wiesenthal, an author and a Jewish
holocaust survivor, who focuses on one of the most controversial topics during and after World
War II, forgiveness. In this book, Weisenthal talked about a questionable case in which Karl, an
SS soldier who murdered plentiful of people, asked Weisenthal for forgiveness for all the pain he
had done towards all the people that were affected by him. When it comes to the topic of
whether people are born to become leaders or followers or is one trained by the environment,
most people will readily agree that people are conditioned to become a leader or a follower,
where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of, What makes a person a
leader? Whereas some are convinced that people are natural born leaders. Becoming a leader
consists with a few reasons such as developed leadershipskills, the bystander apathy, and the
diffusion of responsibility.

All employee and employers, like nurses and nurse leaders, are based on collaborative relationships
with one another. When two or more individuals view issues or situations from different
perspectives, these relationships can be compromised by conflict. Conflict stems from discordance
that arises in values, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, or behaviors of two or more individuals (Pangman
Pangman, 2010). For the purpose of this article, conflictis defined as a phenomenon occurring

When people encounter conflict situations, they need to be able to accept conflict as a normative
challenge and use effective conflict management approaches and other alternatives to transform
conflict into an opportunity for growth (Pangman Pangman, 2010). It is important for negotiators to
have a clear understanding and working knowledge of the approaches to conflict and to be aware of
various alternatives to managing conflict. Therefore, the process of negotiation is an effective
interactive approach that emphasizes the need to maintain ongoing relationships and to share power
and control. One of the international bestselling book on negotiation is Getting to YES, by Roger
Fisher and William Ury that provide ideas about negotiation as a method of conflict management
using principled negotiation. Negotiation can be defined as basic means of being able to receive
what you want from others and where you discuss back and forth until an agreement is reached
(Fisher Ury, 2011). Negotiation is an ongoing effective strategy that emphasizes the need to
maintain good working relationships in day to day activity within health care organizations
(Pangman Pangman, 2010). Moreover, there are many areas in life where people spend time
negotiating with one another whether it is over a contract, a family quarrel, a peace settlement, or a
curfew. Negotiators often find themselves using three methods to negotiation such as soft, hard, or

Children are innocent until we pollute their minds with the filth of society is what Dawe is
saying. Owen describes the sky as Littered with stars , ironically, as the stars are pure and not
soiled with the filth of mankind. Thus by saying the sky is littered with stars, he is taking the
point of view of society the fact that they would want to bring order and conformity to
everything. These stars are scattered across the sky in an unorderly fashion, and no one had got
around to fixing [them] up yet . He is highlighting that society takes beautiful, unadulterated
natural things and pollutes them with their rules and regulations. Moving from childhood to the
middle ages in but a few lines, highlighting that it s not worth mentioning the rest of his
childhood, as it was all had too much of a resemblance to what has already been said. There is a
quick and noticeable change of tone as the man is described as a money hungry , back stabbing
and miserable , no longer the image of innocence as he was portrayed in the first 4 stanzas. Not
guarded by adolescence any more, he enters the real world and is instantly polluted with the filth
of society. He says goodbye to the stars their natural splendour no longer interests him, he is now
a part of the materialistic world. He will no longer show any emotion, and he is now realistic , in
other words, fake. The following dialogue is a symbol of the man s beliefs, what he has been

The Japanese yen s appreciation to record highs against the euro and relative strength against the US dollar has led to a boom in outward foreign direct investment (FDI). Exporters are transferring their operations from Japan to other economies, where parts and labour costs are lower. п‚ђJapan s current account surplus could move into a deficit sooner than 2015 if more companies shift production abroad to combat losses from a strong Japanese yen. In 2011 Japanese firms purchased a record number of firms across the rest of Asia. Worldwide the number of Japanese purchases reached 455, only just short of its record of 463 in 1990. п‚‘Japanese firms are also acquiring shares in natural resource companies. Mitsubishi spent more than $5 billion buying a quarter of mining giant Anglo American s Chilean copper unit, and trading group Itochu bought a $1 billion stake in a US oil and gas firm. п‚’The Japanese Prime Minister has encouraged the trend. We will take advantage of the appreciating Japanese yen to support Japanese companies in purchasing foreign companies and acquiring resource interests, he said. п‚“However, Japanese authorities have signalled there are concerns about a further appreciation of the Japanese yen. The central bank said last month that it plans to increase the funds available for currency intervention. • 3. Kid Kustomer Eric Schlosser Analysis Paper on Kid Kustomer by Eric Schlosser It is easier to influence someone who cannot comprehend that they are being influenced. This is ultimately Eric Schlosser s main argument in his case against the mass marketing scheme aimed at children. Our subconscious influences our decisions more than we are probably aware. As we grow older, we recognize this; children, however, do not possess the same capacity to discern this as we do and so, their naivety is exploited by marketing companies. These companies make their ads to appeal to the factors their target audience desperately (albeit unconsciously) seek. Whether it be by creating a sense of belonging, exclusiveness, and contentedness to the customers, their tactics are subtle enough to lure a wide array of people. Due to the fact that I myself was once a kid, I can personally attest Schlosser s claim that, [kids have a] fundamental need for status and belonging (2002). I did not have a need per se for the hot new trend back in grade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether you are 5 or 55, there is always going to be some group that you will want to be a part of. The marketing giants picked up on this tendency and capitalized it. As mentioned in Kid Kustomers , the creation of Disney s Mickey Mouse Club and its rise in the 1980s and 1990s expanded the horizons of traditional marketing. Kids now received personalized messages catered to them (Schlosser, 2002). These messages helped to link the kids to their favourite brand and forge a connection. If anything, the kids probably thought Mickey Mouse was actually messaging them and probably ran around, smugly telling all their friends the Mickey Mouse had messaged them and that they were friends. Companies like McDonalds did not use the same approach as Disney, but theirs was just as effective. In fact, McDonalds introduction of collectible toys not only attracted eager kids who wanted to have a full set, but it also attracted adult ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sacco Vs Vanzetti Upon his death sentence, Bartolomeo Vanzetti said, I wish to tell you that I am an innocent man. I never committed any crime but sometimes some sin. I wish to forgive some people for what they are now doing to me. On August 23, 1927, two innocent men were executed by electrocution in Boston. Those two men were Sacco and Vanzetti, who were treated unjustly for prejudiced reasons. Both men supported anarchist groups that promoted warfare against the government. Sacco and Vanzetti received an unfair trial because of their radical political views, tainted witnesses in court, and denial of a new trial. Nicola Sacco was born in Torremaggiore, Italy, in 1891. Sacco was sixteen when he moved to the United States. When he immigrated, he worked whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the police were looking for evidence to use against Sacco they found a cap and claimed that it was his. He denied owning the cap, and so they had him try it on infront of the jury. He repeatedly said the cap did not fit (Linder). As the court was trying to find evidence against Vincetti they could not come up with anything stable. So, in front of the court he said this, Eugene Debs say that not even a dog something like that not even a dog that kill the chickens would have been found guilty by American jury with the evidence that Commonwealth have produced against us. I say that not even a leprous dog would have his appeal refused two times by the Supreme Court of Massachusetts not even a leprous dog ( Sacco and Vanzetti Case ). Although some say the trial was fair there are still a lot of people who believe it was not. Three months after the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti the state of Massachusetts passed a law stating, in any case in which a defendant has been convicted of murder in the first degree, the Supreme Judicial Court must review both the law and the evidence ( Sacco Vanzetti: Justice ). Also, in 1977 Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation claiming that Sacco and Vanzetti had been treated unjustly. Furthermore the case is still debated a lot today because it is a perfect example of domination over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Professor Kroto contacted Robert F.Curl at Rice University in Texas because who had been using microwave spectroscopy to analyze clusters of metals formed with professor Richard E.Smalley in his lab. • 6. The Travelling Salesman Problem Travelling Salesman Problem Institution Name Introduction A salesman is required to visit all the cities with a known distance between every two cities keeping in mind that the cities have to be visited once. The problem facing the salesman is to determine the shortest possible route the salesman has to use to visit the towns just once and goes back to the original city. The Travelling Salesman Problem first statement was made by a Viennese mathematician Karl Menger. It brought a connection and relation with the definition of the curve length proposed by Menger that stated that the stretch of a curves distance can be defined as the lower limit upper bound of the groups of all numbers that can be contained by taking each group of points of the curve and producing the shortest length of the polygonal graph. This problem is called the messenger problem. The Travelling Salesman Problem can be stated as where a network has n cities or nodes, and one of the nodes (node 1) is the origin and the cost of travelling which include the ... Research paper on the beatles The Story of My Search Everyone, Americans and Europeans alike, have heard of, if not grown off of, a generation and culture started by an ensemble of four shaggy haired Liverpool musicians that the world went mad over; no one can deny that no greater event impacted today s pop culture than Beatlemania . But not everyone has heard the story behind the Beatles, who were they? How did they become the band and how did they make it big? What s the story of their struggle? Before researching, I already knew a lot about the Beatles. I knew that the band was made up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They started the famous British Invasion of the 1960 s on American pop/rock music, and they started a craze that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There he met his first wife, Cynthia and Stuart Sutcliff. Although Sutcliff had very little good musical ability he bought a bass guitar and joined The Quarrymen (a pre Beatle, Lennon creation). Next came the co genius of this phenomenon, Paul McCartney. Born on June 18, 1942 to Jim and Mary Patricia Monin, Paul was the eldest of two boys in a very close knit family. He first attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School but was soon switched to Joseph Williams Primary School at Gateacre because their mother insisted on the best education for her boys. Paul used to love to listen to the radio and was very influenced by his dad who played in a little band but eventually had to give it up because he got false teeth and couldn t play the trumpet properly anymore. John s mother died of breast cancer when he was only fourteen, which devastated the family and launched John into spending some of his time writing songs, which would later be the pay off of his life. George Harold Harrison was born to Harry and Louise French Harrison on February 25, 1943 in Wavertree as the youngest of four children. Like John, George s first school was Dovedale Primary (John was three years his senior, so they never met). Stuck in a lifeboat with a limited amount of food and water, a tiger and a human are not going to be good companions. Eventually, one or the other is going to survive, and the other will not. Yann Martelcreates an alternate idea. Throughout the book, Yann Martel shows the importance of using your enemies to help get through situations. Richard Parker also helps by catching flying fish, which is a good source of food. Once, he saw Richard Parker, he said, Don t give up, please. Come to the lifeboat. (Martel 121). After thinking over the situation, he realized, a bengal tiger was not the kind of company he wanted. Pi said to himself, In a few seconds you ll be aboard and we ll be together. Wait a second. Together? We ll be together? Have I gone mad? (Martel 123). • 10. Future And Future Of Implants Future of Implants When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: I expect that it will expand. He explained that current DBS technologies are seeing expanding indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole field of brain computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). This is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real world application. Additional implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The future of those is less certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application as time goes on [Marko]. One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size; nanoscale implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased longevity so that there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With continued research and development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the Blue Brain Project, implants will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This is extremely important, for millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them by a disease. Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Juxtaposition In On The Rainy River In the section On the Rainy River from the novel The Things They Carried, author Tim O Brien describes his difficulty in choosing between going to war or going to Canada. O Brien implements many different rhetorical and stylistic strategies to express his dilemma. His use of juxtaposition, rhetorical questions, and somber diction enhance his frustration of his two choices. O Brien uses juxtaposition to compare his option of running away to Canada with what he would rather do: live his life. O Brien describes a scene he has imagined of himself running away. In this dream like state O Brien sees himself getting chased by the Border Patrol with helicopters and searchlights, (O Brien 48). He continues to depict this crazy scenario of being chased... Naturally after spending six days together it would seem logical that Elroy would have some question. The obvious questions, as O brien calls them, Why was I there? Why alone? Why so preoccupied? are questions that are never asked by Elroy and are never directly answered (47). While the answers become apparent to the readers as the section continues, another question arises: Why did Elroy not ask these questions? The answer to that is because he already knew. Elroy understands why O Brien is staying there so he does not need to ask him. It is clear that Elroy understands the dire situation he is in when at the end of the section Elroy leaves an envelope with some money and a note saying emergency fund, (51). These questions and Elroy himself help make it clear that not only is this situation difficult for O Brien, but for others as well. Elroy understands that this is a sensitive issue and O Brien is the only one who can make the decision, so it is better for him to keep to himself and not intrude on O Brien s ... • 13. The Anasazi Indians It was during the time period that Christ was born that the Anasazi Indians appeared in the Four Corners area which is the area where the boundaries of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado meet. For the over a thousand years the Anasazi thrived and built their homes into the side of cliffs. These cliff dwellings could only be reached by climbing and made for a great defense system against enemies; some dwellings reached five stories in height and contained hundreds of rooms. Many of the elaborate cliff dwellings and terraced apartment houses built of stone, mud, and wood that dot the Four Cornersregion still stand today and date back to about 9,000 CE., but the people who comprised this desert culture did not begin to settle into an agricultural lifestyle until around A.D. 400. The Anasazi, which is a Navajo word meaning the ancient ones , likely received corn, squash and beans, which are a prime source of protein, added to their diet and the knowledge to raise them from their southern neighbors in Mexico. Vegetable crops provided a reliable food source that made an increase in population possible and also allowed time for other interests such as religion, art, ritual, public works and handicrafts. This allowed the Anasazi society continued to evolve and progress. The ancient ones also possessed beans, a prime source of protein and new varieties of corn. Now, sugar and sugar rich foods are the most popular and worldwide consuming (McGee 645). High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) was introduced to the food and beverage industry as a substitution to sucrose because of its higher degree of sweetness and the decreasing use of sugar supply during World War II (White). Over a half century, scientists still dispute the safety of HFCS to health. Some studies point out that HFCS has equivalent effects as sucrose and does not account for risk factors for health at normal consumption levels. However, several studies conducted by Standhop, Akar, Hoebel, and Collison have shown that HFCS shows greatly problems in health. Therefore, people should be aware of sugar consumption from HFCS because HFCS introduces health symptoms as cardiovascular disease and risk factors of type II diabetes. [Talk about HFCS] Nowadays, Americans tend to consume more excessive sweet products because of the accessibility of HFCS. Since HFCS can provide sweeter taste than table sugar at the same doses, it rapidly gains market share in food and drink industry after the late 1960s. She demonstrates female power and dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank. Despite her social standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being handed to her and chooses to work for her goals. We selected Under Armour because of their renowned reputation in the U.S. and because of their recent fluctuating financials. The most noticeable fluctuation was the $100 million dropin profits, which was initially attributed to a lack of seasonal sales in the beginning of 2017. However, we discovered that a lack of seasonal sales was not the sole factor that contributed to the recent poor sales but that it was the recent strategic shifts by the company. These strategic moves were categorized into four groups: Branding, Investment, Identifying Trends and Distribution. We, therefore, recommend that the company investment into the new growing trend of of fashionable athletic wear apparel, focusing primarily on their female customer base. This new female apparel line will hopefully boost future earnings by serving one of the fastest growing markets in the United States. In addition, it will hopefully attract more female customers, who still perceive the brand as being male centric . Through thorough analysis, we believe that this the best course of action for the company because of several factors that contribute, but are not limited to this new trend such as the increase in health conscious, an increase in athletic wear apparel and the growing number of active gym members across the country. 1. • 22. Musical Theatre An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone, and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character, because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings, emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Margot got put in a closet because she was trying to describe what the sun looked like to the other kids. But apparently the other kids got tired of her non stop talking about the sun so they shoved her in the closet. The sad thing was that they forgot all about Margot when the sun did come out, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Physics Of Chemistry Class In Chemistry class, the one word you will hear repeatedly is the atom. But in the beginning, it was never this way. Before people had a rough idea what things were made up of, we all thought objects were made up of the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air. This thought was given to us by Aristotle, who was a popular philosopher and scientist in 322 B.C. Then one day, a man named Democritus proclaimed that every substance is made up of tiny, indivisible particles. The Greek said that these particles were called atomon , and they all varied in shape depending on their properties. But this idea was rejected by leading philosophers at the time, which was around 400 B.C. Flash forward to 1897, we have a British physicist by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later on in the 20th century came a man named Earnest Rutherford. This physicist conducted an experiment that is widely known in the chemistry world: the gold foil experiment. The experiment went like this: there was an alpha particle source that would pass through gold foil in a vacuum. The outcome of this experiment was that the particle went through, but went in different directions. This forced Rutherford to conclude that an atom was much more than just open space with scattered electrons, showing that Thomson s Plum Pudding Model to be inaccurate. Rutherford had also concluded that an atom must have a positively charged center that contained most of it s atomic mass. Rutherford was a major contribution to chemistry, discovering the nucleus and the proton. Rutherford s discovery helped other scientists by his discovery. English physicist James Chadwick, for example. When Rutherford proposed that an electron and a proton could combine together to make a neutral particle, it came to the question what else was in a nucleus addition to protons. But there was no evidence of this. Another experiment had caught Chadwick s attention: an experiment by Frederic and Irene Joliot Curie. The pair had studied the radiation from beryllium as it hit a paraffin wax target. The couple had found that the radiation hit the protons, causing them to be knocked loose from hydrogen atoms in that target. The protons also recoiled with a high velocity. They ... It is estimated that 24.3 million people around the world have dementia and that, with an estimated 4.6 million new cases every year, we can expect about 43 million people and their families to have to handle the challenge of dementia by 2020. (McNamera, 2011) I will cover three relevant points concerning this disorder that cause changes in the brain. Part one will cover the pathology and staging of dementia. Stage 4 (early stage), shows a moderate cognitive decline as the patients start withdrawing from family or friends because socialization becomes difficult. This stage can last up to two years. Stage five (mid stage), shows moderately severe cognitive decline as many diagnosed elders will need assistance to complete their daily activities. This stage can last up to 1.5 years. Stage six (mid stage), shows severe cognitive decline as incontinence becomes a problem and the ability to speak declines. This stage can last up 2.5 years. Stage seven (late stage), shows very severe cognitive decline as the ability to speak and communicate are completely lost. The patients often lose psychomotor skills and this can average about 2.5 years. Alzheimer s disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia, and accounts for more than half of the dementia cases. The disease was named after German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer in 1906. Increased levels of protein inside and outside the brain s nervous cells make it hard to stay healthy, causing them to deteriorate and eventually die. The brain region called the hippocampus is the center of learning and memory in the brain, and the cells in this region are often the first to be damaged. For example, Magnus Chase from the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. As Magnus attempts to stop Loki and not die again, he relies on his friends as his rock. As a result, in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer , Rick Riordanuses hyperboles, irony, and the antagonist to help show Magnus unrelenting loyalty to his friends. First of all, in the book of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard from Rick Riordan, one way Magnus loyalty is shown is through hyperboles. For example, in the 25th chapter, it describes the battle between the dragon Mr. Alderman, Magnus, Jack, Blitzen, and Hearthstone. In the book series, to kill a dragon affects someone s fate, and Magnus decides that he won t put Hearthstone through affecting his own fate. It says, My insides fluttered at the thought of killing the dragon, but there was no way I d let Hearthstone take the fall for that. Riordan, page 221. This evidence is significant because it shows the hyperbolethat shows Magnus s allegiance to Hearthstone. The hyperbole in this statement is that his insides fluttered ; but, in this statement, Magnus is willing to harm his own fate for Hearthstone. This shows a great amount of loyalty, something that many people may not have been able to do. The evidence shows that Magnus is willing to put his own skin on the line for his friend(s). Since its inception in 1971, the Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 5000 series has been revised more than a dozen times a change approximately once every three years. Well meaning and proactive defense secretaries institute changes and then leave office prior to institutionalization. There is always some meaning at its heart. Sometimes, however, messages become swayed and it becomes difficult to recognize the author s intentions in writing. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued. A Hangingby George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict within Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries responsible for carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital punishment clear, there is fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his possible usage of the prisoner to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog portraying the event through the eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers humorous words in contrast to the stark sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective, though strong, also comes under scrutiny in its effectiveness.
