Candle Burning Lab
The purpose of this lab was to observe the burning of a candle and to determine the rate at which a
candle burns. In order to begin, we tightened our candle into the clay located in a weight boat.
Then, we measured the initial height and mass. The original height was 8.5 cm. The original mass
was 9.26 g. In addition, we noted that the candlewas made of wax, had a spiral pattern, was pink
with white stripes, and had a pencil like shape.
For the experiment, we attempted to burn the candle for 5 2 minute time periods. As we were
burning the candle, here were our observations: the wick is burning, burning is taking place inside
the candle, wax is melting, candle is getting shorter, most heat released above flame, wick is
slanting, wick is blackened,

Racial Discrimination Effect on Labor Market
The earliest form of racial discrimination against Asian Americans was encountered during the
California Gold Rush. The Gold Rush attracted Chinese immigrants who came to California to fill
the high demand for laborers. However, as more and more Chinese immigrated to California and
the lower paying labor jobs were filled, the Chinese began filling higher paying positions typically
held by Whites. As a result, an anti Chinese Movement was formed followed by the enactment of
the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 which prevented any additional Chinese immigration into the
United States. Essentially, Chinese were discriminated against by the Whites due to fear of the
Chinese taking over their jobs. After World War II, the federal government ended

In most cases, the relationship between education and wages is widely accepted since lower
education level equates to lower knowledge and skills, qualifying workers for only low paying
jobs. Also, the inability to speak fluent English may have hindered Hispanic wages and
employment. The inability to communicate in English affects individuals performance especially
in jobs that require close interaction with English speaking customers (16). Latinos working on a
full time basis earned approximately $549 per week in 2011 which represented only 71% of what
was earned by Whites. This wage gap has been steady even during recession periods. However,
unlike other ethnic minority groups, the wage disparities between Whites and Latinos are also
clearly attributable to differences in education, work experience, and other demographic
characteristics (Charles and Guryan 510). According to the statistics from researchers, the effect of
poor English on wages varies, with some reports indicating 30% of the wage disparity between
Hispanics and Whites is attributable to the language barrier. Hispanics who do not speak English
are relegated to positions which require little to no customer interaction, primarily in the agricultural
industry. The challenge of speaking fluent English is common among the Hispanics. As noted in
1976, only 18% of the Hispanic workers in the United States spoke fluent or even partially fluent
English. In 1979, the overall annual earnings for

The cell is the basic unit of life and is the smallest, simplest organism that can perform all of life
s functions. The cell was discovered in 1665 by Robert Hooke. The three types of cells are plant
cells, animal cells, and prokaryotic cells. These cells share many qualities but are also different in
many ways.
There are a few organelles that exist in all three types of cells. The first of these is the cell
membrane (also known as the plasma membrane). The plasma membrane is the outer boundary
of the cell that protects the cell from its surroundings. It is selectively permeable because it
controls what enters and exits the cell. Carl Naegeli and C. Cramer discovered the plasma
membrane in 1855. The cytosol is also present in the Plant, Animal, and Prokaryotic cells. The
cytosol is the thick, gelatin like liquid in the cell that accounts for almost 70% of its volume. The
cytosol of a cell is the substance in which the organelles are suspended and it provides the proper
conditions for their function and movement. The cytosol was discovered by Albert Claude,
Christian de Duve, and George E. Palade in 1835. A third structure contained in all three types of
cells is the ribosome. Ribosomes are spherical in shape and are made up of RNA and protein. They
are often found on the endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosomes are important in the manufacturing of
proteins and are the site at

The Upside And Hardship Of Hamlet From Hamlet By William...
The Upside to Hardship The three characters, Hamlet from Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Mr.
Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Pi from Life of Pi, all must overcome
hardships in order to be successful in life. It is apparent that each of these characters has his own
struggle to go through. However, each struggle helps the character to become stronger in his own
way. These struggles give the characters strive to achieve a goal, and eventually each character is
able to achieve his own individual success. It is through the experience of hardships, Hamlet, Mr.
Darcy and Pi, become stronger, more ambitious individuals, ultimately achieving success. It is
impossible to go through life without hardships, as Hamlet, Darcy and Pi are powerful examples
of characters who endure many hardships throughout their journey to success. One struggle that
Hamlet encounters within the play is the murder of his father: But two months dead, nay, not so
much, not two; so excellent a king that was to this Hyperion to a satyr, so loving to my mother
(Shakespeare, I, ii, 139 141). Shakespeare uses this allusion to show Hamlet s admiration of his
father, and how devastated he becomes after Old Hamlet s death. Hyperion is the God of Light,
while a satyr is a grotesque creature that is half man half goat, symbolic of sexual promiscuity
(Mabillard). This allusion helps the reader to understand Hamlet s love for his father, as he
believes him to be a great and

The Nature Of Village Life In The High Middle Ages
The Nature of Village Life in The High Middle Ages
One Ox and Luttrell Psalter are texts that I think give an interesting perspective on village life.
Based on my readings of One Ox, I would characterize village life in the High Middle to have been
ruled with aristocracy, secularism, and church, with a strong emphasis on farming, money, and
markets showing an agrarian society. The Luttrell Psalter shows images of agriculture labor by
peasants, men, women, and children alike showing the importance of agriculture, as well as a
wealthy class of magistrates, showing the same ruling systems present in One Ox , but a market
system, and secularism are absent. The ruling class of a village are shown in One Ox who are
aristocrat and clergy figures, the officials the mayor of the village, provost, and celebrated priest
of the church. Though it seems they are on the lower end of wealth, as they even have to partake
in agriculture, There is no need for us to plow any longer in rainstorms. The mixture of church, and
magistrates are seen between these three officials showing how the two must probably have to
work together to run a village.
There s different points in the story where the officials do many illegal things, but only get
reprehended once in the market for inflation, ...in response to the abuse the assembly of shoe
makers increases, with angered minds This shows something like guilds are present in markets.
Then, They are led off by bailiffs, presented to

Golden Gate Research Paper
HISTORY Located at the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, a three mile long strait
connects the San Francisco Bay to the nearby Pacific Ocean. This strait (named Golden Gate by
U.S. Army Captain John Freemont in 1846) separates the cities of San Francisco and Marin. Due
to its location near the Pacific, the strait is known for its strong tidal forces; as well as gale force
winds and dense fogs. Because of these conditions, during the early twentieth century, ferries
provided the only feasible form of transportation between the two cities. Following the end of
World War I, San Francisco city engineer Michael O Shaughnessy began challenging engineers to
design and construct a bridge across the Golden Gate. Due the location s geography, most claimed
that such a project would cost no less than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after the pier (surrounded by a caisson) was placed in the water, a storm caused the nearby
water to churn. This water raised the caisson and continuously beat it into the fender. After
removing the pier, workers reinforced the fender with concrete; thus making the fender a part of
the final foundation. The pier was completed in January 1935; followed five months by the
tower. Two months after completing the towers, it was time to begin constructing the cables.
Two main cables would stretch from one anchorage to the other: passing over both of the towers.
Using technology from the company John A. Roebling s Sons, workers spun over 25,000 pencil
thin wires into 7,650 foot long, 36.5 inch wide cables. With the advanced technology, workers
were able to complete the construction in less than seven months. In September 1936, workers
completed the roadway steel. Eight months later, workers complete and secure the road deck.
This was achieved through the use of 254 sets of suspender ropes, which were spaced fifty feet
apart and extended to the main cables. These ropes help to secure and support the weight of the
new road.

How Industries Compete in the Textile Industry
Firms in the textile industry can compete using pricing or non pricing strategies. Pricing strategies
involves the use and manipulation of prices to increase market share and reduce potential and
existing competition in the textile industry. Non pricing strategies on the other hand refer to all the
alternatives, excluding price, that a firm uses to achieve the same objectives.
One of the most common pricing strategies used in the textile industry is the use of limit pricing.
This involves a firm setting a low enough price to deter new entrants from coming into the textile
industry. For example, a firm would set the price of their products below the estimated average cost
of the new entrant thus making the new entrant encounter a loss ... Show more content on

Successful adverts would mean that the consumers will buy products from the firm that had
advertised and this will increase their customer base and possibly profits. Other firms will also
advertise heavily and the success will depend on which advert caught the attention of the consumer.
Furthermore, advertising may increase the demand for a good and may make the demand for that
good inelastic. The inelastic nature of the good will then allow firms to raise price in order to cover
the costs of the advertising. However, advertising can be very expensive and deciding on the right
methods of advertising may be very difficult. Furthermore, the success of the advert depends on the
action of the other firms. If the other firms also decide to increase their advertising expenditure,
then the firms may not be able to catch the attention of as many consumers as they intended. This
would mean that the advertising was unsuccessful hence not promoting competition.
Another non pricing strategy that a firm may adopt is developing their products so that their
products are unique compared to rival firms products and customers would rather buy the unique
products than the ordinary ones. For example, in the textile industry, people usually look for a
particular type of fashion E.G. collared or non collared, tight T shirts or maybe even short sleeved
shirts as compared to long sleeve shirts. Firm in the textile industry can change their products to
suite the tastes and fashions

Robert Edmond Jones was born December 12, 1887, in Milton, New Hampshire. Jones was the
second child born to Fred and Emma Jane Cowell Jones. He began to take violin lessons at the
age of nine, eventually playing in the Harvard Pierian Sodality Orchestra, but even when he was
a child he was sure being an artist was his aspiration. In 1905, Jones graduated from Nute High

pursued a liberal arts course of study and graduated cum laude in 1910. In this same time period,
he had entered in the popular drama course taught by George Pierce Baker. Following graduation

He was an unashamed beggar for beauty and an unsurpassed inventor of it. Here are some of his
famous quotations from The Dramatic Imagination, We have learned that beneath the surface of
an ordinary everyday normal casual conscious existence there lies a vast dynamic world of
impulse and dream, a hinterland of energy which has an independent existence of its own and
laws of its own: laws which motivate all our thoughts and actions. Our playwrights are
attempting to express directly to the audience the unspoken thoughts of their characters, wo show
us not only the patterns of their conscious behavior but the pattern of their subconscious lives.
We accept motion pictures unthinkingly as objective transcripts of life, whereas in reality they
are subjective images of life. On stage we shall see the actual characters of the drama; on the
screen we shall see their hidden secret selves. The theatre is a school we shall never have done
with studying and learning. A stage setting is not a background; it is an environment. I think [the
theatre] needs also actors who have in them a kind of wildness, an exuberance, a take it or leave it
quality, a dangerous quality. I am indebted to the great Madame Freisinger for teaching me the
value of simplicity in the theatre. The sole aim of the arts of scene designing,

Final Exam What factors contribute towards the success of a racial justice organization in Los
Angeles, California? In the midst of a heavy racially political environment in Los Angeles, the
factors related to setting a solid foundation towards success can be directly linked to the importance
in understanding the historical context behind such politics, in combination with paying close
attention to the different ways the issues of class, race, citizenship, gender and sexuality share
representation within previous organizations like the Black Panther Party, the East Winds, KIWA,

Heavily influenced by the BPP, East Wind began in Los Angelesin 1972. Primarily consisting of
Japanese Americans, activists focused on the Japanese American population by doing community
work and organizing much like the BPP. East Wind strongly emphasized serving the people by
engaging in local struggles around drug abuse, worker issues, and community mental health (Pulido

minority, must be explained to better understand the establishment of the East Winds. Bob H.
Suzuki brings to light the transition from Yellow Peril of Japanese Americans being в

minority formulates from the wake of World War II, as the limited upward mobility of Asian
Americans was achievable because of the demand for workers to fill lower echelon white collar
jobs along with training and socialization Asians had acquired through both home and extended
schooling (Suzuki 43). Because of the model minority myth many Japanese American s found
themselves struggling against discrimination, as they were expected to be quiet and behave and not

Analysis Of Hey Boo, By Harper Lee
Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, never expected her novel to be as successful as it
was and is. Her success from the novel did not come so easily. Lee finally met with a publisher
and editor, Tay Hohoff, in New York after receiving a number of rejection letters in 1957. While
living in New York, Harper Lee s lifelong friends, the Brown s, had faith in her success and
presented her with enough money to take a year off from work to write a literary phenomenon
called To Kill a Mockingbird. The video Hey Boo revealed the meaningful purpose behind the
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, and demonstrated the major influences it had on the people s and
nation s internal moralities and views during the 1960 s. This film illustrates the

Madame Bovary Foreshadowing Essay
In Madame Bovary, the minor characters represent Emma Bovary s moral failures and emphasize
her inability to obtain satisfaction. Gustave Flaubert connects these characters to Emma to reiterate
the uniformity in the state of dissatisfaction with society. Many of these characters parallel Emma
s life, thus foreshadowing the fate of her marriage and life with Charles. The characters actions
and characterization, in the beginning and the end of the book, foreshadow and emphasize Emma
s state of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Heloise s nonexistent satisfaction with Charles and their
marriage foreshadows Emma s dissatisfaction with her marriage to Charles. Before her marriage
she had been warned, she would be unhappy, however, her fantasy of love blinds her from the truth

The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney
Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The
Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors
grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his
Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for
the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but
also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman
epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later,
Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic,
poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of
William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular
Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler,
rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the
Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less
complex ways of living as a way to escape reality.
In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to
cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive
imagery.

Native American Melting Pot
In America, there is a term we use to define the U.S. population, which is, The Melting pot. The
integration of lifestyles, cultures, and beliefs in this metaphorical melting pot, has been simmering
since the early 1500 s. Spanish settlers migrated to new worlds determined to claim land promised
to them by the Crown of Spain. Although, consequently, the natives had not realized that their way
of life and all that it entails, would become among the first ingredients in the pot of U.S. history.
Despite integration beginning with the emigrant settlers, they considered indigenous natives to be
savage, second class citizens on their own soil. In comparison to the superior standards of Spanish
customs, protecting these very ideologies of superiority against the Native Americans happened
peacefully, or by forcefully. The natives were simply out matched in arms, against Anglo
Americans, which is why the legacy of Hispanidad remains disparaged and vague. Therefore,
whitewashed accounts of U.S. history must be revised to include Latino contributions, factors, and

Double Displacement Reaction Lab Report
!!!What is a Double Displacement Reaction?
Let us imagine ourselves going to a dance and having a dance partner. Once we arrive to the
dance, we interact with other people and we end up switching dance partners with another person.
Now you end up with a new dance partner. The same kind of thing can be compared to what occurs
in a double displacement reaction in chemistry.
A __double displacement reaction__, also known as a __double replacement reaction__ or

However, as we mentioned above, H2SO3 is unstable and further decomposes to H2O and SO2.
The gas formed is SO2.
!!!Lesson Summary
A __double displacement reaction__, also known as a __double replacement reaction__ or
__metathesis reaction__ is a type of reaction that occurs when the cations and anions switch
between two reactants to form new products. When predicting products in a double displacement
reaction, we need to identify the different ions first and their charges. After that, we switch the ions
of the two reactants and write down the products. The final step is to make sure that your chemical
equation is balanced.
There are three types of reactions that fall under the double displacement reaction category:
precipitation, gas formation and neutralization reactions. A __precipitation reaction__ forms an
insoluble solid compound. A __neutralization reaction__ occurs between an acid and a base that
forms a salt and water. A __gas formation__ reaction is when two compounds react to form a

to stay competitive. The automobile industry was able to position itself globally by
manufacturing economical vehicles. In 1979, Japan shifted its focus to the technological fields
as they drifted away from the industrial industries. Their focus was on developing computers,
semiconductors, and technology industries. The Bubble Economy The bobble economy refers to
the time period of 1980 to 1993. During this time frame Japan saw the Yen rise to three times its
value and corporate land rise to 180% of its value. As a result the Japanese government regulated
the monetary policies system and raised interest rates. The Tokyo stock market dropped 38%
wiping out over two trillion in estimated value. In October 1993, the recession bottomed out and
Japan rebounded slowly by switching their focusing on technological innovations to regain strong
market position behind the United States. Japan retained as the leader of the semi conductor and
automobile industries. In 1995 the rise of the Yen forced Japan to shift production overseas to
China, Tokyo, and Malaysia. Today Japan and the United States have a strong economic

Key aspects of the Canadian health care system
Canada is known for its universal health care system. Health care services across Canada are
financed by the government and follows the guidelines of the Canada Health Act (1984) Which
states: to protect, promote, and restore the physical and mental well being of residents of Canada
and to facilitate reasonable access to health services without financial or other barriers . The Canada
health act includes medically necessary hospital diagnostic and access to a physician. Further more

(CITE) Despite its success the Canadian health care system has some concerns associated with
it and It is important for policy makers, and the health management sector to address these issues
and provide solutions for them. Health management is a complex social goal, and a major
initiative in Canada, which is heavily relied on the public sector. One of the major issues the
health care system is currently facing the over crowded emergency departments and extremely
long waiting times. . In this paper I will discuss the issue of overcrowded hospitals as a results of
the rising population of the elderly. Many of our hospitals are over crowned, there are long
waiting time, and the elderly are not provided with sufficient care. Overcrowding will place an
increasing amount of burden on the hospital by delaying testing and diagnosis times, creating a
shortage of nurses and doctors, and it may also have a negative impact on the financial state of the
hospital.
Why is it an Issue?
According to statistic Canada their will be a dramatic change in the senior population in Canada,
this mean that the entire baby boomer generation will become part of Canada s senior population
which is those aged above 65. Furthermore in 2010 statistics Canada reported that by the year
2036 the seniors population will increase to about 23 25%. This change in the aging population of
Canada has a huge impact on the health care services. Many seniors require regular access to health
care

Ethical Theories That We Have Taught Are Deontological...
The two Contrasting ethical theories that we have studied are Deontological ethics and
Utilitarianism. Deontological: Deon means obligation or duty; Logia means speech Whereas,
Utilitarianism: means the greatest happiness of the greatest number Deontological ethical,
according to deontologists certain actions are right or wrong in themselves and so there are
absolute ethical standards that must be supported. The problems with this position are concerned
with how we know which acts are wrong and how we distinguish between a wrong act and an
omission. Philosophers such as Nagel argue that there is a fundamental concept of right which
makes our actions, while this might be dominated in certain circumstances. There may be an

Kant believe that if an action had moral intentions, therefore it is morally relevant no matter
what the consequences are. This theory states that consequences of an action does not matter
and have no moral relevance, only intentions are morally applicable. Deontology also focuses on
an individual s duty to point an action, not an end as the sole purpose of that action. Kant s
standard by which it is judged morality of an action lies in the second formulation of the
Categorical Imperative, treat others as ends, not as mere means to an end. This means that
actions are not moral if you intend to use someone, without their knowledge, exclusively for a
purpose if reaching a certain end. Kant believes that people have a duty to treat others as both
means and an end in order for an action to be considered moral. Kant s theory of Deontology
looks seems to be divided on whether or not the actions are moral. Since Deontology places an
importance on intentions that determine the morality of an action, this news article would not be
considered completely immoral according to Kant. The article would have to be divided between
two ethical actions, which are the oil spill and the attempts to cleaning to determine morality. It
didn t have no intentions for the perforation platform to explode and cause the oil well to eruption

Sports is a rapidly growing lifestyle in the community. This occurs because of increased public

that people should go to the gym, but they still can doing exercise without going to gym. Activities
such as walking and running are cheap and more accessible. Cheaper than other activities because

Nitric Oxide On Oxygen Levels
Nitric Oxide on Hypoxia Levels in Metabolism and Vasoactivity Regulation This review paper is
based on research and learned techniques through this semester (Fall 2015), conducted under Dr.
Kenneth Kambis in the Adair Hall Facility. Although final approval was authorized in December,
there were previous volunteers that were informed under another approval given. In the research
project titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment
Simulating a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia
levels in various ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and
vasoactivity in certain species systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper
materials, methods, and equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygenwhether in humans, sheep,
rats or mice is essential to understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be
done in vivo or in vitro. In the laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the
oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure
of oxygen in a given hypobaric environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis,
2015). Thus the regulation of oxygen in partial pressures is similar to those found in hypobaric
atmospheres of up to extreme altitude. Innovation In human research the demographics to consider
in a study are age, gender, height, weight, and

Minority Groups In Canada
In a world where society is mostly driven by our faults, family can be a relative term that brings it
all back down to earth. Since societies can be extremely divided at times, it is important to have a
back bone and a community that understand your own values, customs, and practices. It has been
said that minority groupfamilies, which in Canada or the United States, could be considered anyone
who isn t Caucasian, are less stable in form and function than families who are a part of the general
societal majority . Throughout this essay, I would like to discuss how untrue this statement is.
From racial and cultural differences, to relying on each other and to growing as a unit, it is evident
that minorities can have an even stronger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different cultures and practices require acceptance from each dominating ethnic groups, and this
can be incredibly difficult to achieve. Growing up in the 90 s or earlier, it was particularly
difficult to find classmates, or even friends who shared the same values as you. As time goes on,
society opens up to various practices and accepts the fact that not everyone is the same. This leads
to relying and confiding in those who are of the same minority groups.
Since it can be difficult to meet people who are in the same ethnic minority, it forms a bond and
sense of reliance on one another. These families have no one but each other, which proves that
their relationship will be stronger, because their loyalty lies with each other. A Muslim family
that must pray 5 times a day for religious purposes will feel more accepted and understood with
those of their own religious group. In elementary school, I was the only Muslim until Grade 6. I
did not learn to pray or share my values with anyone because no one would understand or even
accommodate my needs. When the Muslim community began to expand, I noticed prayer groups
being formed and students had a quiet area to meet their religious needs. I wonder how different I
would be if there

Netflix And Hulu Comparison
Netflix and Hulu plus are pretty similar, both have video streaming and entertain people, but
Netflix is way better in many ways. Hulu has recent seasons and more seasons of shows. Netflix
has more TV shows and movies. Netflix also has no commercials. While Hulu people have to wait
2 minutes for the show to come back on. People can also, rent DVDs on Netflix. These some
examples on why Netflix is way better than Hulu Plus. One reason Netflix is better than Hulu
plus is that it has a lot of TV shows and movies people can choose from. A person can spend
hours just flipping through shows, and if they do not feel like watching a show, they can watch a
movie instead. Netflix has shows that have already ended or do not show any more on regular...

Sure People have the most recent episodes on Hulu, but they can also go to the show s website

Netflix does not have for example the show Community. It is a great show it is very funny, but it
is not on Netflix. For people to watch it they have to go to Hulu or stream somewhere else. It s
pretty much the only thing good about Hulu plus. Another reason Netflix is way better than
Netflix, is that they do not have commercials/ads. People can sit around at home and binge watch
their show without any interruptions. When a person is watching their favorite show and getting
really into it, they do not have to be interrupted by a commercial for baby s diapers. They do not
have to wait two minutes of the same commercial playing over and over every commercial break.
Hulu, on the other hand has commercials. It is terrible right when the ad is done they show a
little bit of the show and there is an ad again. A two minute ad is not big deal, but it could get
really annoying especially if the ad buffers and just keeps buffering. Unless they have like ad

Realism In Art And Art In The 19th Century
Realism began in France in the 1840 s. It was the first unconventional, anti institutional art
movement. It challenged Neoclassicism and Romanticism by diverting every ones attention to
more social issues which were brought by the disturbed and raging 19th century. In simpler words,
Realism was, opposed to the Romanticismways of merely representing nature, an approach to art to
position oneself in the real , whether it was scientifically, morally, constitutionally, or even
theoretically. When it comes to theoretical beliefs, Realismincorporated the progressive aims of
modernism. This was done through pursuing new certainties, by reconsidering and capsizing
customary systems of philosophies and morals.
The realistic works developed with the introduction of photography. Through it, an invention of
representations was created and they looked accurately factual. ... Show more content on

Romantic emotionalism as well as classical naivety was banned entirely. From this era onwards,
artists felt the freedom to portray real life situations without aesthetics. Realism influenced
impressionism and many other contemporary art styles as it imitated a liberal modification in the
prominence and purpose of art overall. To this day, the characteristic style still manages to impact
visual arts and thus can be viewed as revolutionary. In the words Stokstad, Realism, reflected the
positivist belief that art should show unvarnished truth, and realists took up subjects that were
generally regarded as not important enough for a serious work of art . It depicted how the realm
esteemed working men only for the labor they achieved, rather than their social eccentricity. In
short, Realism was a trigger to portray the hardships of pastoral

Human Resource Management Of An Organization Essay
Graschl (2011) commented on the essential piece of information that Human Resource
Management of an organization is one of the integral part of the organization that helps in
maximizing the performance of the employees for meeting the objectives of the organization. In
this contemporary world, the importance of hoteland hospitality industryis increasing in a rapid rate
and hence managing the people within the hotels and restaurants is now a major concern. This is
because, it is generally seen that the hospitality industries that deals with the welfare and
satisfaction of the customers, do not give much care and importance to the employees. As
mentioned by Lean Darder, Villar GarcaВa Pla Barber (2011) the employees therefore are not at all
treated well that leads to the less employee retention and dissatisfaction. The hotel industry in New
Zealand is in a consistent growth over years and hence it is essential for the hotels to look after the
interest of the employees. The HR practices should be present that includes both the appraisals and
employee engagement that is essential for each and every hotel industry.
In this research work, the researcher deals with the identification of the contemporary issue of
Human resource management along with the discussion on the employee engagement process as the
contemporary issue. In addition to this, the management of the identification of the issues that

Internet Dangers
As advancements in technology continue to exceed expectations, the internet starts to present itself
more as a reliable tool than a technological breakthrough. With every passing year, people take for
granted what a powerful asset the internet can truly be. However, common sense would suggest
that, every powerful tool comes with a significant risk. The risk takes the form of every lewd,
violent, and undesirable website which exists in the vast network of information. Some possess
knowledge extensive enough to avoid these dangerous sites, but those who are young and blissfully
ignorant of the unseen nature of the internetcannot possibly be expected to avoid these dangers on
their own. Therefore, in order to protect the minds, hearts, and futures of the younger generation,
precautionary measures should be taken to prevent children from accessing or stumbling upon sites
which, by no means, should ever be seen by children.
It is said that over 30 percent of all data transferred across the internet is pornography (Kleinman,
2017). With much of this content being easy to access and free to view, it comes as no surprise that
numerous children find themselve viewing explicit content. A study was done that shows up to
fifteen percent of all 12 17 year olds view pornography through online sources or other means, this
includes unwanted exposure. The study also states that 70 percent of 15 17 year old internet users
report stumbling upon pornography quite often. Teens who have had

Obesity Among City Dwellers Is Becoming One Of The Major...
Obesity among city dwellers is becoming one of the major national health concerns. In fact, it
became a crisis. Nationally, $147 billion is spent yearly for obesity related care, including 77%
greater spending on medications for the obese than for non obese individuals (Marchiondo
2014, P. 156). According to the CDC, among Maryland adults over 18 years old 65.4% were
overweight, with a Body Mass Index of 25 or greater. Also, 27.1% were obese, with a Body
Mass Index of 30 or greater (CDC Obesity Facts Adolescent and School Health, 2012). Among
Maryland s adolescents between grade 9 and 12, 15.6 percent are overweight and 12.2 percent
are obese (Obesity and Overweight for Professionals: State Programs: Funded States: Maryland
DNPAO CDC, 2012). This problem places residents on a critical risk for several co morbidities
especial cardiovascular issues. Community health assessment about the problem of obesity in the
city of Greenbelt is performed. The city of Greenbelt is found in PG County. According to the US
census 2010, the city is home for 23, 068 people. It is a diverse city with African Americans being

Essay on Amnesia in Memento Directed by Christopher Nash
The film, Memento, tells a multidimensional story about a man, Leonard Shelby, who suffers
from short term memory loss illness, anterograde amnesia. He is impaired by this medical issue
due to being hit on the head when defending his wife, who was attacked and raped in their house
during the middle of the night. He kills one of the invaders during the attack. With inability to
form new memories, one of the last things Leonard remembers is seeing his wife, die. He then
devotes his life to finding and killing the second attacker. However, Leonard, being unable to store
and remember new memories, develops a technique to help him recall what has already happened in
his life post head trauma. He does this by using hand written notes, tattoos,... Show more content on

The movie switches back and forth between various series of color and black and white
sequences. The black and white scenes illustrate the story in chronological order; whereas the
scenes in color continue in reverse chronological order, demonstrating the use of flashbacks.
However, the opening credits unfolds a scene of Leonard killing Teddy, who is a claimed and
assumed, but unproven police officer, assigned to the rape of Catherine Shelby, Leonard s wife. He
is also an acquaintance of Leonard, who attempted to assist him in his determined search for his
wife s killer. Although, the audience realizes this beginning scene actually exposes the end of the
conclusion of the story. The black and white sequential scenes and the reversal color scenes
alternate awaiting the conclusion of the film where they meet in the middle of the story.
Director and screenwriter, Christopher Nolan, portrays the movie s protagonist, Leonard Shelby, as
a flawed hero tries to find some justice in an unfair world, as wrong was done onto him with the
rape and murder of his wife. This neo noir thematic device is displayed through Leonard, as he is,
at heart, a genuinely good person, despite making questionably moral decisions, in this case to
naivety and gullibility due to his mental incapability. Suffering anterograde amnesia, the death of

The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing
Summary of the project:
The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as
social, professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a
complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes
it hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is
attributed to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native
and second language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating
the acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be
incorporated in the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics
, which views language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express
meanings (Bloor Bloor, 1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based
on Saudi Arabia with the intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two
persuasive genre writings, which are discussion and exposition genres. To do so, SFL is employed
with its powerful analytical tools that are helpful in educational contexts. In particular, these
analytical tools examine written language in the way sentences and clauses are organized as well
as the way sentences are joined together to make a whole text (Coffin, 1996; Feez, 1998; Rothery,

Youth Sports and Character Development
Youth Sports and Character Development
Introduction
Character development is not something that can be gained or developed over night. Character
development is the multiple life skills that an individual builds within themself throughout their
lifespan. When a person develops good character in their early years of life, they will benefit in
the long run because they used the life skills they gained and put them to use, becoming a
successful individual in all aspects of life. There is one thing for certain in this world, everyone
wants to accomplish something in life and we want to recognize our full potential. In order to do
this we must have some skills, and in this case it s life skills. Life skills are a range of

Ethical decision making skills are important in our everyday lives because we are constantly
making decisions on something, whether it s deciding on what you will do on a day to day
basis or if it s dealing with a situation that must be resolved. Having the ability to affectively make
the best decision possible for any situation by gaining ethical decision skills and putting them to
use are essential for everyone. When a person is involved with sports, they are constantly learning
and practicing ethical decision making skills because there are always decisions that must be
made. Whether the situation is between two teammates or dealing with calls in game situations,
there are always decisions being made. Being a participant in sports, an individual obtains
personal and social values and behaviors. This is where an individual builds close relationships
through the experience of being apart of a team. Within the building of close relationships in sports,
a person learns how to work effectively in group settings. Individuals gain and learn the importance
of handling different situations and viewing them in a strategic way when resolving a conflict.
Other features of an individual having good character are honesty, integrity and ethical behavior.
These characteristics are brought about through being a participant of a sport because when an
athlete recognizes they are in the wrong during game play, they develop the importance of honesty.

geeky look, and the first rock musician to attract not only a female, but also a male audience.
Singing Style
Holly had a unique singing style which featured stretched syllables and high energy. He broke the
typical rock practice by singing ballads with a feeling of nervous excitement, said Arnold Shaw in
The Rockin 50s. Buddy took a ballad of woeful words and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He influenced artists from Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones and The
Beatles, who named themselves after insects as a tribute to The Crickets. Holly was an
inspiration for the early writings of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Many artists have paid
tribute to Buddy such as Susan Allanson and Linda Ronstadt. Weezer released a song titled
Buddy Holly in 1994 which references the singer. Perhaps one of the most known tributes is
American Pie released in 1971 by Don McLean. The song memorialized the day the music died,
referring to February 3rd, 1959, the day Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and Big Bopper died in a
tragic plane crash. Eddie Cochran recorded Three Stars, a tribute to the singers deaths just one
day after the accident. He was a huge hit in England; Buddy, a musical based on Holly s life
opened in London in 1986 and showed for over a

Compared to other fields, Wildlife Biologists have high educational requirements. Because the
field requires intimate knowledge of many biological processes, as well as anatomy and
ecological systems, this career requires at least a Bachelor s Degree. You may want to get an

field. However, this will only get you to access to an entry level position this may not what you

schools offer bachelor s degree programs in wildlife biology or in a closely related field, such as
ecology. An undergraduate degree in biology with coursework in zoology and wildlife biology
also is good preparation for a career as a zoologist or wildlife biologist this help you understand it
easier. The U.S. Geological Survey, under the U.S. Department of the Interior, states that

Bowen Family Systems Theory
The couple I chose for this case study is the older, married couple, Albert and Marion Mazur. I
chose this couple while watching the documentary, Love, Etc. In this documentary, five couples
were followed and featured, among those, Albert and Marion were the couple that displayed
complete unity. Married for over fifty years, these two individuals define Dr. Murray Bowens family
systems theory. Basically, the theory focuses on whatever occurs in an individual s life affects his
or her family. In order to understand one person in a family, it is imperative to view each
individual as a member of the family. Therefore, the couple s history and marriagewill be explored
using the Bowen Family Systems Theory. The concepts of the theory in... Show more content on

Therefore, there are, in fact, four parts of the theory connecting and interlocking in a hierarchy
system.
Background
Albert and Marion Mazur began their relationship working together as songwriters. They both
played the piano and wrote songs before they actually met. Living less than a mile from each
other, their meeting was not love at first sight, but their mutual love for music. After working
together for a few years, they married. They were happy and in love, yet still continued with their
love of songwriting and making music. Little did they know what the future had in store for them
as a couple. Marion s health began to decline with the early signs of dementia, whereas their roles
as they once knew, soon would be reversed (Andresevic, 2013).
Theoretical Foundation According to Bowen s family system theory, the Mazur s, demonstrated
many of the facets related to the concepts within the hierarchy of the connected systems. First, the
concept of wholeness was evident by their actions when they were together versus apart. Before
they were a couple, they were living as single, independent persons and each would be viewed
differently than when they became a couple. The two of them being together or whole was much
greater than summing them up as parts. Next, their roles and interdependence essentially intertwine
when they come

Analysis Of The Poem Poor North By Mark Strand
Mark Strand s poem, Poor North depicts the life of a married couple facing countless struggles
during a harsh winter. It tells of a man working in an unsuccessful store while his wife sits at
home, wishing for her old life back. The way the wife copes with her sadness is both intriguing
and perplexing. She misses her old life, even though it is described to have not been special;
however, the wifemay be a person who never feels satisfied or fulfilled by the external world due
to internal conflict. Despite the wife s obvious misery, she stays by her husbands side and they stroll
in the cold together, bracing the wind. As a means of escape from life, she peers into her past in
order to find hope in the present.
The title of the poem implies that the home of characters is not a place where anyone would want
to spend their life. When the north is described as the poor north, in both the title and at the end of
the first stanza, it makes it seem as though it is an established fact, recognized by anyone who has
visited or lived there. The description is solidified when the speaker says, nothing goes right in
the poor north (5). A bad experience must have occurred in order for the speaker to feel
negatively about the setting of the poem; otherwise, there would be no need for strong language to
describe it. The speaker is external, almost as though they are watching the events unfold from a
distance, as if they were looking through a window into someone else s life.

The Benefits Of College Tuitions In America
College tuitions in American is too expansive for the young adult who has the potential to be
successful in our community. Many people were not able to attend college due to financial issues.
College tuitions can go over $100,000 for a four year college. In result, they find part time jobs to
pay their tuitions and spend extra time in collegefor total of six through seven years instead of four
years to achieve their bachelor degree. In addition, many college students take loans and had to pay
over $30,000 of debtafter attending college (Lobosco). It s upsetting to see people especially
young adults to get accept to an excellent college but unable to afford it.
This has become a huge problem because we are speaking about the future of America. The
people who has the potential to do good for the country. One of them can even be our president
one day and help aid America. Everyone deserve an opportunity to become successful however it
cost a lot of money and it hold many people back to do so. In the article When Colleges Dangle
Money to Lure Students Who Ignored Them Ron Lieber talk about students get accepted into
colleges and unable to afford it unless college tuitions are low cost. Lieber is only speaking about
a liberal arts program which made a lot of student overwhelm by the cost of tuition. I could not
imagine what will law or medical school would cost. Lieber states The Upheaval that comes with
reopening the college decision is rough on teenagers as well as

William Shakespeare s The Restoration Period
Throughout history there have different styles of comedy that inherit different aspects of society
during that time. During the Restoration period, there is one author who stands out from the rest
and is known as the father of comedy of manners and that author is Molliere. One of his most
notable pieces of work was the Misanthrope; thats core principles are based on the comedyof
manners. The fundamentals of the comedy of manners often have a multiple consistencies that
are true to most plays written during that time. It s sole purpose is to get a satirical perspective
at the life, manners and social aspect of the upper class and aristocrats. Itt is considered high
comedy due to the fact that it creates a critical perspective of the life of the upper classes, unlike
low comedy which serves no other purpose than to create laughter. Plays which use comedy of
manners often poke fun at the character s outlooks on life, their manners toward each other and
their view toward lower social classes. In general the characters of plays/books during this time
have very generic roles such as the fool, hypocrite, the jealous lover, ect... Additionally the plots of
these plays usually are surrounding a complicated lovesituation that puts a few characters in
conflict with each other. These principles are true to plays written during that time, especially
Moliere s Misanthrope which represent the core beliefs of the comedy of manners. The main
characters in the Misanthrope embody the main

My Work And Dedication Of My Father Works At Dupont...
There were many different degrees to to choose from but pursing a degree in Accounting stood
out to me because there are so many different paths you can go on to where you want to be in life.
So far, I ve set many goals not only on the degree and jobs associated with it, but also goals for the
years to come in my life. Of course there will be a lot of responsibilities and hard work to come
with this major, but in the end hopefully all the hard work and dedication will pay out. I grew up
in a small town in West Virginia
named Parkersburg where there were a decent amount of jobs but
there were to bigger companies in the area that pretty much made Parkersburg a suitable place to
live. Those two companies were DuPont Washington Works and the Bureau of the Fiscal
Service. My mother works at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and my father works at DuPont.
Growing up she always told me accountants made good money and also received great benefits
because it was a government job. I never really knew much about accounting or the business
world until I took a business class and accounting class in high school which taught me a lot
because I got to practice accounting, ran a business in a 9 week simulator, and have an internship
with State Farm, Dan McPherson. It was safe to say, I would be attending West Virginia University
in pursuit of an accounting degree. Now fast forward a couple months to where I am at now at
West Virginia University where I am enrolled in accounting

Art Briles Case Study
It s a crazy world that we live in.
So crazy, in fact, that even when a coach turns a blind eye while a massive sexual assault scandal
implodes the very program he helped turn into a national powerhouse, is still considered one of the
premiere coaching candidates in college football.
Art Briles, the soon to be 61 year old former Baylor Head Coach is looking for work. His entire
life, both playing and coaching has been spent in the state of Texas, dating back to his playing days
from 1974 1977 for Houston. Since then, Briles has worked his way through the ranks to a 99 65
record, as well as becoming one of the best talent developers in the entire country.
Under Briles tutelage, Baylor has sent players like Josh Doctson, Bryce Petty, Robert ... Show more

Since 2013, Briles compiled some pretty impressive recruiting classes given the state of Baylor as a
less attractive version of the Texas Longhorns. Respectively, Baylor ranked 41st, 36th, 26th, and
27th from 2013 2016 according to 247Sports. In that same span, Malzahn managed the 10th, 8th,
6th, and 9th best recruiting classes in the country.
The kicker between the two class rankings is what was done with them. From 2013 2016, Briles
compiled a 32 7 record at Baylor, while Malzahn was 28 15 with a 13 12 SEC record as mentioned
before. In conference, Baylor was 22 5 under Briles from 2013 2016. One thing Briles knows how
to do is win inside his conference, something Malzahn has struggled with mightily since taking over
for the Tigers.
If Malzahn does lose his job at Auburn, and Briles is considered, it may just be the best move the
Tigers could make from a football standpoint. If you re looking at the media scrutiny and off field
issues Briles brings with him, then it makes no sense at all. Briles is a public relations disaster
right now, but could soon begin repairing his image through speaking and apologizing if he even
remotely hears or feels that he s in the running for major coaching

  • 2. Candle Burning Lab The purpose of this lab was to observe the burning of a candle and to determine the rate at which a candle burns. In order to begin, we tightened our candle into the clay located in a weight boat. Then, we measured the initial height and mass. The original height was 8.5 cm. The original mass was 9.26 g. In addition, we noted that the candlewas made of wax, had a spiral pattern, was pink with white stripes, and had a pencil like shape. For the experiment, we attempted to burn the candle for 5 2 minute time periods. As we were burning the candle, here were our observations: the wick is burning, burning is taking place inside the candle, wax is melting, candle is getting shorter, most heat released above flame, wick is slanting, wick is blackened, ... • 3. Racial Discrimination Effect on Labor Market The earliest form of racial discrimination against Asian Americans was encountered during the California Gold Rush. The Gold Rush attracted Chinese immigrants who came to California to fill the high demand for laborers. However, as more and more Chinese immigrated to California and the lower paying labor jobs were filled, the Chinese began filling higher paying positions typically held by Whites. As a result, an anti Chinese Movement was formed followed by the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 which prevented any additional Chinese immigration into the United States. Essentially, Chinese were discriminated against by the Whites due to fear of the Chinese taking over their jobs. After World War II, the federal government ended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most cases, the relationship between education and wages is widely accepted since lower education level equates to lower knowledge and skills, qualifying workers for only low paying jobs. Also, the inability to speak fluent English may have hindered Hispanic wages and employment. The inability to communicate in English affects individuals performance especially in jobs that require close interaction with English speaking customers (16). Latinos working on a full time basis earned approximately $549 per week in 2011 which represented only 71% of what was earned by Whites. This wage gap has been steady even during recession periods. However, unlike other ethnic minority groups, the wage disparities between Whites and Latinos are also clearly attributable to differences in education, work experience, and other demographic characteristics (Charles and Guryan 510). According to the statistics from researchers, the effect of poor English on wages varies, with some reports indicating 30% of the wage disparity between Hispanics and Whites is attributable to the language barrier. Hispanics who do not speak English are relegated to positions which require little to no customer interaction, primarily in the agricultural industry. The challenge of speaking fluent English is common among the Hispanics. As noted in 1976, only 18% of the Hispanic workers in the United States spoke fluent or even partially fluent English. In 1979, the overall annual earnings for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Pre Ap Biology Research Paper Hannah Porter Mr. Condo Pre AP Bio 1 November 4, 2014Pre Ap Biology Research Paper The cell is the basic unit of life and is the smallest, simplest organism that can perform all of life s functions. The cell was discovered in 1665 by Robert Hooke. The three types of cells are plant cells, animal cells, and prokaryotic cells. These cells share many qualities but are also different in many ways. There are a few organelles that exist in all three types of cells. The first of these is the cell membrane (also known as the plasma membrane). The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell that protects the cell from its surroundings. It is selectively permeable because it controls what enters and exits the cell. Carl Naegeli and C. Cramer discovered the plasma membrane in 1855. The cytosol is also present in the Plant, Animal, and Prokaryotic cells. The cytosol is the thick, gelatin like liquid in the cell that accounts for almost 70% of its volume. The cytosol of a cell is the substance in which the organelles are suspended and it provides the proper conditions for their function and movement. The cytosol was discovered by Albert Claude, Christian de Duve, and George E. Palade in 1835. A third structure contained in all three types of cells is the ribosome. Ribosomes are spherical in shape and are made up of RNA and protein. They are often found on the endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosomes are important in the manufacturing of proteins and are the site at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Upside And Hardship Of Hamlet From Hamlet By William... The Upside to Hardship The three characters, Hamlet from Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Pi from Life of Pi, all must overcome hardships in order to be successful in life. It is apparent that each of these characters has his own struggle to go through. However, each struggle helps the character to become stronger in his own way. These struggles give the characters strive to achieve a goal, and eventually each character is able to achieve his own individual success. It is through the experience of hardships, Hamlet, Mr. Darcy and Pi, become stronger, more ambitious individuals, ultimately achieving success. It is impossible to go through life without hardships, as Hamlet, Darcy and Pi are powerful examples of characters who endure many hardships throughout their journey to success. One struggle that Hamlet encounters within the play is the murder of his father: But two months dead, nay, not so much, not two; so excellent a king that was to this Hyperion to a satyr, so loving to my mother (Shakespeare, I, ii, 139 141). Shakespeare uses this allusion to show Hamlet s admiration of his father, and how devastated he becomes after Old Hamlet s death. Hyperion is the God of Light, while a satyr is a grotesque creature that is half man half goat, symbolic of sexual promiscuity (Mabillard). This allusion helps the reader to understand Hamlet s love for his father, as he believes him to be a great and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Nature Of Village Life In The High Middle Ages The Nature of Village Life in The High Middle Ages One Ox and Luttrell Psalter are texts that I think give an interesting perspective on village life. Based on my readings of One Ox, I would characterize village life in the High Middle to have been ruled with aristocracy, secularism, and church, with a strong emphasis on farming, money, and markets showing an agrarian society. The Luttrell Psalter shows images of agriculture labor by peasants, men, women, and children alike showing the importance of agriculture, as well as a wealthy class of magistrates, showing the same ruling systems present in One Ox , but a market system, and secularism are absent. The ruling class of a village are shown in One Ox who are aristocrat and clergy figures, the officials the mayor of the village, provost, and celebrated priest of the church. Though it seems they are on the lower end of wealth, as they even have to partake in agriculture, There is no need for us to plow any longer in rainstorms. The mixture of church, and magistrates are seen between these three officials showing how the two must probably have to work together to run a village. There s different points in the story where the officials do many illegal things, but only get reprehended once in the market for inflation, ...in response to the abuse the assembly of shoe makers increases, with angered minds This shows something like guilds are present in markets. • 8. Golden Gate Research Paper HISTORY Located at the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, a three mile long strait connects the San Francisco Bay to the nearby Pacific Ocean. This strait (named Golden Gate by U.S. Army Captain John Freemont in 1846) separates the cities of San Francisco and Marin. Due to its location near the Pacific, the strait is known for its strong tidal forces; as well as gale force winds and dense fogs. Because of these conditions, during the early twentieth century, ferries provided the only feasible form of transportation between the two cities. Following the end of World War I, San Francisco city engineer Michael O Shaughnessy began challenging engineers to design and construct a bridge across the Golden Gate. Due the location s geography, most claimed that such a project would cost no less than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon after the pier (surrounded by a caisson) was placed in the water, a storm caused the nearby water to churn. This water raised the caisson and continuously beat it into the fender. After removing the pier, workers reinforced the fender with concrete; thus making the fender a part of the final foundation. The pier was completed in January 1935; followed five months by the tower. Two months after completing the towers, it was time to begin constructing the cables. Two main cables would stretch from one anchorage to the other: passing over both of the towers. Using technology from the company John A. Roebling s Sons, workers spun over 25,000 pencil thin wires into 7,650 foot long, 36.5 inch wide cables. With the advanced technology, workers were able to complete the construction in less than seven months. In September 1936, workers completed the roadway steel. Eight months later, workers complete and secure the road deck. This was achieved through the use of 254 sets of suspender ropes, which were spaced fifty feet apart and extended to the main cables. These ropes help to secure and support the weight of the new road. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Industries Compete in the Textile Industry Firms in the textile industry can compete using pricing or non pricing strategies. Pricing strategies involves the use and manipulation of prices to increase market share and reduce potential and existing competition in the textile industry. Non pricing strategies on the other hand refer to all the alternatives, excluding price, that a firm uses to achieve the same objectives. One of the most common pricing strategies used in the textile industry is the use of limit pricing. This involves a firm setting a low enough price to deter new entrants from coming into the textile industry. For example, a firm would set the price of their products below the estimated average cost of the new entrant thus making the new entrant encounter a loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Successful adverts would mean that the consumers will buy products from the firm that had advertised and this will increase their customer base and possibly profits. Other firms will also advertise heavily and the success will depend on which advert caught the attention of the consumer. Furthermore, advertising may increase the demand for a good and may make the demand for that good inelastic. The inelastic nature of the good will then allow firms to raise price in order to cover the costs of the advertising. However, advertising can be very expensive and deciding on the right methods of advertising may be very difficult. Furthermore, the success of the advert depends on the action of the other firms. If the other firms also decide to increase their advertising expenditure, then the firms may not be able to catch the attention of as many consumers as they intended. This would mean that the advertising was unsuccessful hence not promoting competition. Another non pricing strategy that a firm may adopt is developing their products so that their products are unique compared to rival firms products and customers would rather buy the unique products than the ordinary ones. For example, in the textile industry, people usually look for a particular type of fashion E.G. collared or non collared, tight T shirts or maybe even short sleeved shirts as compared to long sleeve shirts. Firm in the textile industry can change their products to suite the tastes and fashions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was an unashamed beggar for beauty and an unsurpassed inventor of it. Here are some of his famous quotations from The Dramatic Imagination, We have learned that beneath the surface of an ordinary everyday normal casual conscious existence there lies a vast dynamic world of impulse and dream, a hinterland of energy which has an independent existence of its own and laws of its own: laws which motivate all our thoughts and actions. Our playwrights are attempting to express directly to the audience the unspoken thoughts of their characters, wo show us not only the patterns of their conscious behavior but the pattern of their subconscious lives. We accept motion pictures unthinkingly as objective transcripts of life, whereas in reality they are subjective images of life. On stage we shall see the actual characters of the drama; on the screen we shall see their hidden secret selves. The theatre is a school we shall never have done with studying and learning. A stage setting is not a background; it is an environment. In the midst of a heavy racially political environment in Los Angeles, the factors related to setting a solid foundation towards success can be directly linked to the importance in understanding the historical context behind such politics, in combination with paying close attention to the different ways the issues of class, race, citizenship, gender and sexuality share representation within previous organizations like the Black Panther Party, the East Winds, KIWA, and GALA. The thesis of the model minority formulates from the wake of World War II, as the limited upward mobility of Asian Americans was achievable because of the demand for workers to fill lower echelon white collar jobs along with training and socialization Asians had acquired through both home and extended schooling (Suzuki 43). • 13. Madame Bovary Foreshadowing Essay In Madame Bovary, the minor characters represent Emma Bovary s moral failures and emphasize her inability to obtain satisfaction. Gustave Flaubert connects these characters to Emma to reiterate the uniformity in the state of dissatisfaction with society. Many of these characters parallel Emma s life, thus foreshadowing the fate of her marriage and life with Charles. The characters actions and characterization, in the beginning and the end of the book, foreshadow and emphasize Emma s state of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Heloise s nonexistent satisfaction with Charles and their marriage foreshadows Emma s dissatisfaction with her marriage to Charles. Before her marriage she had been warned, she would be unhappy, however, her fantasy of love blinds her from the truth (7). • 14. The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape reality. In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive imagery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The integration of lifestyles, cultures, and beliefs in this metaphorical melting pot, has been simmering since the early 1500 s. Spanish settlers migrated to new worlds determined to claim land promised to them by the Crown of Spain. Although, consequently, the natives had not realized that their way of life and all that it entails, would become among the first ingredients in the pot of U.S. history. Despite integration beginning with the emigrant settlers, they considered indigenous natives to be savage, second class citizens on their own soil. In comparison to the superior standards of Spanish customs, protecting these very ideologies of superiority against the Native Americans happened peacefully, or by forcefully. The natives were simply out matched in arms, against Anglo Americans, which is why the legacy of Hispanidad remains disparaged and vague. When predicting products in a double displacement reaction, we need to identify the different ions first and their charges. After that, we switch the ions of the two reactants and write down the products. The final step is to make sure that your chemical equation is balanced. There are three types of reactions that fall under the double displacement reaction category: precipitation, gas formation and neutralization reactions. One of the major issues the health care system is currently facing the over crowded emergency departments and extremely long waiting times. . In this paper I will discuss the issue of overcrowded hospitals as a results of the rising population of the elderly. Many of our hospitals are over crowned, there are long waiting time, and the elderly are not provided with sufficient care. Overcrowding will place an increasing amount of burden on the hospital by delaying testing and diagnosis times, creating a shortage of nurses and doctors, and it may also have a negative impact on the financial state of the hospital. Why is it an Issue? According to statistic Canada their will be a dramatic change in the senior population in Canada, this mean that the entire baby boomer generation will become part of Canada s senior population which is those aged above 65. In the research project titled: Individual Variability Upon Acute Exposure to a Normobaric Hypoxic Environment Simulating a Physiologic Altitude Equivalent to 3,500 Meters it covered and explores hypoxia levels in various ethnic backgrounds at rigorous activity. The concept of metabolism and vasoactivity in certain species systems is highly regulated under laboratory conditions with proper materials, methods, and equipment. Measuring ranging levels of oxygenwhether in humans, sheep, rats or mice is essential to understand chemical regulation in the organism s system. This may be done in vivo or in vitro. In the laboratory, a normobaric hypoxia chamber is utilized to decrease the oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere to a percentage that closely reflects the partial pressure of oxygen in a given hypobaric environment without reducing the atmospheric pressure (Kambis, 2015). The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing Summary of the project: The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as social, professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes it hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is attributed to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native and second language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating the acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be incorporated in the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics , which views language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express meanings (Bloor Bloor, 1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based on Saudi Arabia with the intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two persuasive genre writings, which are discussion and exposition genres. • 41. How Did Buddy Holly Influence The 1950 s Charles Hardin Holley, also known as Buddy Holly, was one of the most significant and influential rock n roll icons of the 1950 s even though he only ever had one chart topping single. Holly s musical legend was one of many firsts: First rock n roll performer to insist on artistic control over his material and to write/arrange his own songs and supervise his studio sessions. First to master the technical parts of recording including echo, double tracking and overdubbing (he recorded his own voice and guitar playing). First to add classical stringed instruments in rock music. First to ditch the pretty boy looks of most 1950 s performers for a more intelligent, slightly geeky look, and the first rock musician to attract not only a female, but also a male audience. Singing Style Holly had a unique singing style which featured stretched syllables and high energy. He broke the typical rock practice by singing ballads with a feeling of nervous excitement, said Arnold Shaw in The Rockin 50s. Buddy took a ballad of woeful words and ... Weezer released a song titled Buddy Holly in 1994 which references the singer. Perhaps one of the most known tributes is American Pie released in 1971 by Don McLean. The song memorialized the day the music died, referring to February 3rd, 1959, the day Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and Big Bopper died in a tragic plane crash. Eddie Cochran recorded Three Stars, a tribute to the singers deaths just one day after the accident. • 43. Bowen Family Systems Theory The couple I chose for this case study is the older, married couple, Albert and Marion Mazur. I chose this couple while watching the documentary, Love, Etc. In this documentary, five couples were followed and featured, among those, Albert and Marion were the couple that displayed complete unity. Married for over fifty years, these two individuals define Dr. Murray Bowens family systems theory. Basically, the theory focuses on whatever occurs in an individual s life affects his or her family. In order to understand one person in a family, it is imperative to view each individual as a member of the family. Therefore, the couple s history and marriagewill be explored using the Bowen Family Systems Theory. The concepts of the theory in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, there are, in fact, four parts of the theory connecting and interlocking in a hierarchy system. Background Albert and Marion Mazur began their relationship working together as songwriters. They both played the piano and wrote songs before they actually met. Living less than a mile from each other, their meeting was not love at first sight, but their mutual love for music. After working together for a few years, they married. They were happy and in love, yet still continued with their love of songwriting and making music. Little did they know what the future had in store for them as a couple. Marion s health began to decline with the early signs of dementia, whereas their roles as they once knew, soon would be reversed (Andresevic, 2013). Theoretical Foundation According to Bowen s family system theory, the Mazur s, demonstrated many of the facets related to the concepts within the hierarchy of the connected systems. First, the concept of wholeness was evident by their actions when they were together versus apart. Before they were a couple, they were living as single, independent persons and each would be viewed differently than when they became a couple. The two of them being together or whole was much greater than summing them up as parts. Next, their roles and interdependence essentially intertwine when they come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of The Poem Poor North By Mark Strand Mark Strand s poem, Poor North depicts the life of a married couple facing countless struggles during a harsh winter. It tells of a man working in an unsuccessful store while his wife sits at home, wishing for her old life back. The way the wife copes with her sadness is both intriguing and perplexing. She misses her old life, even though it is described to have not been special; however, the wifemay be a person who never feels satisfied or fulfilled by the external world due to internal conflict. Despite the wife s obvious misery, she stays by her husbands side and they stroll in the cold together, bracing the wind. As a means of escape from life, she peers into her past in order to find hope in the present. The title of the poem implies that the home of characters is not a place where anyone would want to spend their life. When the north is described as the poor north, in both the title and at the end of the first stanza, it makes it seem as though it is an established fact, recognized by anyone who has visited or lived there. The description is solidified when the speaker says, nothing goes right in the poor north (5). A bad experience must have occurred in order for the speaker to feel negatively about the setting of the poem; otherwise, there would be no need for strong language to describe it. The speaker is external, almost as though they are watching the events unfold from a distance, as if they were looking through a window into someone else s life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. My Work And Dedication Of My Father Works At Dupont... There were many different degrees to to choose from but pursing a degree in Accounting stood out to me because there are so many different paths you can go on to where you want to be in life. So far, I ve set many goals not only on the degree and jobs associated with it, but also goals for the years to come in my life. Of course there will be a lot of responsibilities and hard work to come with this major, but in the end hopefully all the hard work and dedication will pay out. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia named Parkersburg where there were a decent amount of jobs but there were to bigger companies in the area that pretty much made Parkersburg a suitable place to live. Those two companies were DuPont Washington Works and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. My mother works at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and my father works at DuPont. Growing up she always told me accountants made good money and also received great benefits because it was a government job. I never really knew much about accounting or the business world until I took a business class and accounting class in high school which taught me a lot because I got to practice accounting, ran a business in a 9 week simulator, and have an internship with State Farm, Dan McPherson. It was safe to say, I would be attending West Virginia University in pursuit of an accounting degree. Now fast forward a couple months to where I am at now at West Virginia University where I am enrolled in accounting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So crazy, in fact, that even when a coach turns a blind eye while a massive sexual assault scandal implodes the very program he helped turn into a national powerhouse, is still considered one of the premiere coaching candidates in college football. Art Briles, the soon to be 61 year old former Baylor Head Coach is looking for work. His entire life, both playing and coaching has been spent in the state of Texas, dating back to his playing days from 1974 1977 for Houston. Since then, Briles has worked his way through the ranks to a 99 65 record, as well as becoming one of the best talent developers in the entire country. Under Briles tutelage, Baylor has sent players like Josh Doctson, Bryce Petty, Robert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since 2013, Briles compiled some pretty impressive recruiting classes given the state of Baylor as a less attractive version of the Texas Longhorns. Respectively, Baylor ranked 41st, 36th, 26th, and 27th from 2013 2016 according to 247Sports. In that same span, Malzahn managed the 10th, 8th, 6th, and 9th best recruiting classes in the country. The kicker between the two class rankings is what was done with them. From 2013 2016, Briles compiled a 32 7 record at Baylor, while Malzahn was 28 15 with a 13 12 SEC record as mentioned before. In conference, Baylor was 22 5 under Briles from 2013 2016. One thing Briles knows how to do is win inside his conference, something Malzahn has struggled with mightily since taking over for the Tigers. If Malzahn does lose his job at Auburn, and Briles is considered, it may just be the best move the Tigers could make from a football standpoint. If you re looking at the media scrutiny and off field issues Briles brings with him, then it makes no sense at all. Briles is a public relations disaster right now, but could soon begin repairing his image through speaking and apologizing if he even remotely hears or feels that he s in the running for major coaching ...
