The Effects Of The BP Oil Spill
On April 20, 2010, a massive offshore drilling rig, known as the Deepwater
Horizon, exploded and set fire. The results were devastating. Eleven people lost
their lives, and approximately seventeen were injured ( BP Oil Spill Timeline ). The
explosion caused oil pipes to rupture and spill thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf
of Mexico. The BP oil spillhas since turned into one of the worst disasters in recent
memory. The damage that it has caused is insurmountable, and it has taken its toll on
a wide range of people (Walsh). Making Matters worse, the spill has spawned many
controversies (Lustgarten). The question, however, remains the same: Why did this
happen in the first place?
The BP Oil Spill is the result of a series of events that eventually led to thousands of
barrels of petroleum leaking into the Gulf. In early September, BP released a report
that analyzed the events leading up to the accident. The report states that the fire
was caused by a release of hydrocarbons from the well, and then onto the oil rig (BP
Internal Investigation Team). The Deepwater horizon was equipped with failsafe
mechanisms in case anything went wrong. The problem is that they all failed as
well. Once the rig sank, it caused three breaks in the pipes. That is when the spill
occurred. There were multiple chances to stop this. And they all failed, says
Malcolm Spaulding, a professor of ocean engineering at the University of Rhode
Island (Walsh)
One of the most unsettling aspects of the
Causes Of Treaty Of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles On June 28, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were
assassinated by a Serbian terrorist group. As a result, World War I began and lasted
approximately 4 years. This was a war between Germany and the Allied Nations. On
June 28, 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germanyand the Allied Nations.
This treaty was a peace document that would end World War I. Ironically, Treaty of
Versailleswas the principal cause of World War II.
Treaty of Versailles stated that Germany had to take the blame for causing World
War I (World War Two Causes). It also forced Germany to lose territory, pay for the
damages caused by the war, and their air force was forbidden. As a result, the
Treaty of Versailles weakened Germany. The treaty stated that one of the ways that
Germany could pay for the war expenses was by giving other countries some of
their goods. As a result, Germany s economy worsened. The German people were
unhappy with the treaty because they believed that it was unjust and biased. They
thought that it was unnecessarily punitive and profoundly shameful (Hamner). In
distress, People were dissatisfied with the government and voted to power a man
who promised to rip up the Treaty of Versailles (World War Two Causes). This man
was Adolf Hitler. Hitler s goal was to eliminate the Treaty of Versailles. He wanted to
fix the problems that the treaty had caused like poverty, unemployment, and inflation.
He also wanted to get rid of Germany s
Gun Safety Research Paper
Firearm related injury and deaths for children are on the rise. There are more
accidental death and injury as well as some fatalities due to firearms, and it occurs
more than you think. In the United states there is one gun for every home. If the
government was more forceful with their laws, then firearmrelated deaths, and
injuries that occur from children would come to an end. ( Howard, 2005, pg 374 9 )
Research has shown that the sixth leading cause of deathfor children 5 9 years old,
and the eighth leading cause of death for children between 1 4 years of age are
caused by firearms. We as parents should think about gunsafety in our homes. We
should store our firearms somewhere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The topics that grow out of these books include 1. How school shooting might be
seen as ceremonial rituals, 2. How schools come to be seen as an appropriate place for
shootings, 3. How advice to educators relating to school shooting might change the
practice of teaching. ( Warnick, Johnson, A, Samuel, 2010,pg 371 390). The author
has presented various ways to understand school shooting that may eventually prove
helpful, but they also highlighted the problem, tensions, and contradiction associated
with each position. In the end, the author argues, the circumstance surrounding school
shootings and demonstrates the need for the tragic sense in education. The need for
the tragic sense, while manifesting in many different areas of schooling, it
exemplifies most clearly in the targeted school shootings. The National Center for
Education Statistics (NCES) and Bureau of Justice Statistics concludes, Between the
years of (1992) and (2004), the (NCES) says that the victimization rates for students
ages 12 18 generally declined both at school and away from school; that the patterns
held for the total crime rate as well as for thefts, violent crimes, and serious violent
crimes. All

scale. Due to the increase in usage of web services, it has become of prime
importance to design systems for effective web service recommendation. In our
project, we propose a system for effective web service recommendations
incorporating users preferences regarding quality and diversities amongst web
services. Users requirements are considered and mined from his usage history. Then
we find functional similarities using clustering techniques followed by applying a
ranking algorithm to list top k services. To discover high quality Web services, a
number of QoS models for Web services and QoS driven service selection
approaches have been proposed in the service computing field. In this system user
explicitly specifies his/her interests and QoS requirements, and submits them to the
service discovery system. Then the service discovery system matches the user s

The Odessa Steps Sequence
Sergei Eisenstein was a Soviet film director, who directed Battleship Potemkin. A
famous scene in the film is the Odessa Steps sequence. The Odessa Steps sequence
is an example of Eisensteinian attractions, which is a tactic that is used to shock or
jolt the audience, mainly through editing. The scene I am describing is segment C.
Segment C is the scene that consists of the cherub statues, the collapsing iron gate,
and the lion statues. Segment C consists of nine shots. The first shot is a cherub
extending its right arm above its head to reach a club. The cherub is looking straight
ahead. Additionally, the cherub is sitting with its legs wide open. The second shot in
the segment is another cherub looking to the left. The cherub is grasping... Show more

Yes, the narrative is disrupted by the cherubs and the lion statues, but compared to the
other segments the cherubs and the lion statues do not intensify the shots of the iron
gate collapsing compared to the occurrences in segment B and segment A, where
those shots together build upon the intensity of the shots within their own segments.
In segment B the shots continue to intensify the narrative especially seeing the
helpless baby in the carriage on the cusp of descending down the steps, and then the
solider slashing people with his saber, and the woman who was shot in the eye. In
my opinion, these all continue to intensify the narrative because the shots are brief
but it s all shocking and addresses the spectator especially when the woman who is
shot in the eye looks at the camera in horror. Segment B continues to shock one,
whereas segment C disrupts the continuity of the scene. Segment A is also disruptive
like segment C because of the title that says and suddenly, and the lady who is
shaking her head and yelling, and then the lady with the white parasol heading toward
the camera, although this is disruptive it also intensifies the narrative because the
narrative completely switches from the people waving to the people beginning to run

The Virtues of Apathy Essay
The Virtues of Apathy
I just don t think I can continue to live in a place that embraces and nurtures apathy
as if it was virtue. Morgan Freeman speaks these words in the movie Se7en after
declaring that he is going to quit his job as a detective. His character sees crimes of
hate, aggression and murder every day, and he also observes the public s reaction to
them. People turn a blind eye; they no longer care. What has happened to society?
Why has what used to be considered incredibly shocking dissolved into what is
considered an everyday and usual activity? Apathy has become the common response
of American society towards what should be considered shocking because these
activities have become unshocking and everyday .

Crying and vomiting, love making and dying, and beauty and sickness are paired
together and stressed in his novel Blue of Noon. Bataille s main character is almost a
complete opposite to what is considered a normal human being. The character loves
what is evil and debaucherous. He even finds the dead more sexually attractive than
the living. Bataille uses this estranged character to perform actions that should be
everyday; however, the nature of the character performing the actions unfamiliarizes
them. A perfect example of this is when the character is sitting down for an evening
meal at a pleasant restaurant. Instead of finishing the meal and his conversation with
the woman sitting next to him, the character violently stabs the woman in the leg
with his fork (Bataille 39). Such an action is completely out of place, yet it happens
as though it is ordinary and everyday.
Looking back from a modern perspective, Highmore states that Surrealism s attention
to everyday life stands the everyday on its head (Highmore 49), meaning that the
Surrealists accomplished their task of upsetting the normal and confusing the
ordinary. However, Highmore also notes the second accomplishment of Surrealism
when he says, There is a danger that Surrealism s attempt to make the familiar (the
everyday) unfamiliar has itself become all too familiar
Positive Effects Of Recycling
Recycling means to regain old materials into new, and allowed the human to use it
again. Many countries suffered from the waste, which is sometimes lead people to
migrate because of the side effects of not recycling. Countries which not use the old
materials for recycling face many problems, such as, pollution, pressure in the landfill
and other which can affect on human health. Also, it can affect on the economic
costs, because the government have to pay to clean and repair the damages. For
example, china need to spend about 1.75 trillion yuan to clean the air pollution in
their country between 2013 and 2017 (according to Chinese Academy for
Environmental Planning). Results of recyclingcan be grouped into three main
headings: minimize the landfill, save our resources, and it could be a way to save
money.
One of the positive effect to recycle old trash that is help to reduce the landfills. To
explain, many countries doesn t use the method of recycling, so they burned the
trash or throw it in empty area. But humans do not know the side effect of their
behavior. Burning trash will cause air pollution and increased emissions of
dangerous gases, such as, methane and carbon monoxide. However, recycling
materials like paper could really help to reduce landfills, because paper took quit
time to brake down. A perfect example of this, in the United States people have used
more paper for a very long time, and the amount of the paper in landfills has
increased, and when US had

Sue Klebold Interview Summary
In this recent interview, Kate Fillion (Macleans) interviewed Sue Klebold, the
mother of Dylan Klebold, one out of the two Columbine shooters, shared the
aftermath of the Columbine High School shooting. On the day of April 20, 1999 in
Columbine, Colorado, 12th graders Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into
Columbine High School with guns and homemade bombs and killed 13 people,
wounded 24, and later, turned the guns on themselves. Sue Klebold is now a
suicide prevention activist and has also written a book, A Mother s Reckoning,
where she talks of the events before and after the Columbine shooting. In her book,
she writes that there were no clues of Dylan being violent and that she missed signs
of psychological deterioration. Before the events of the shooting, Dylan was a good
kid; He was in the gifted program, volunteered at a daycare centre, and had a good
school social life.

Two years before Columbine, Dylan had written in his journal about wanting to
die. His journal had talked of suicidal feelings. Another sign was a dark and violent
paper that Dylan wrote that was brought to a concern to his parents but not to full
attention. Dylan had also purchased a gun with the help of another friend, with the
impression to use for target practice but that clearly took a different direction.
Dylan was depressive and suicidal but wouldn t have likely killed anyone on his
own, said the FBI profilers. Unlike Eric Harris, who planned the attack, was a
psychopath and was incapable of empathy while also charming. Before the
Columbine shooting, Eric Harris had a website where he broadcasted threats, which
was brought to the attention of the police by Judy Brown, mother of a boy who Eric
threatened to be killed, but actions weren t made by the police to follow
Vampires Never Die, By Guillermo Del Toro And Chuck
Hogan
In the text Vampires Never Die, by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, the
authors main purpose is to tell the origin of vampires and how the perception of
vampires has changed throughout history. Although the myth of an undead monster
was created before the word vampire ever was, this text begins with a story told by
John William Polidorithat created the two main branches of vampirefiction known
today. These branches include the vampire as a romantic hero and the vampire as
an undead monster. Moreover, Polidori s creation was widely accepted as being
based upon Lord Byron, a superstar in the era of the 1800s. This new twist to an
old idea was thought of by Polidori because he was a doctor and friend to Lord
Byron. Nonetheless, Polidori resented Lord Byron s charm, physique, and brilliance
thus creating the alter egos. However, this text also suggest vampires may have
originated from the repressed memories humans had as primates. Therefore, out of
necessity, people may have been cannibalistic. In addition, this text suggest that
vampires do not wish to destroy human lives but rather live for eternity. Furthermore,
vampire characters are often used today in a variety of media ranging anywhere
from cereal boxes to romantic fiction. Additionally, Polidori s Dracula vampire movie
was a success due to the featuring of new technology at the time including telegraphs,
typing machines, and blood transfusions. Today, the world is exposed to wireless
technology and is
Not Enough is Known About Botox Essay examples
Thesis Not enough is known about the long term use and the long term side effects
of the toxin, despite the fact that Botox has been approved by The Food and Drug
Administration and is being used for a variety of medical conditions.
Everyday, as I go through the morning ritual of applying my make up, the visible
signs of aging are becoming more apparent. I see skin that is starting to sag and
everyday, I swear, a new wrinkle appears. Of the many things I can find fault with on
my aging face, the most bothersome are the deep creases between my eyebrows. For
this reason, five months ago, I decided to check out my options for obliterating these
deep valleys on my forehead. After calling several cosmetic surgeons in the... Show

In addition, considering it is a relatively new procedure, I wanted to know if there
were other doctors in the local area who were performing this procedure and, most
importantly, the price I would have to pay to undo my furrowed brow.
Through my research I found that Botox, the trade name for Botulinum Toxin type
A, is a neuromuscular junction blocking agent produced by the bacterium
Clostridium Botulinum ( Botulinum Toxin ). In other words, Botox is derived from
the same poisonous bacterium which causes botulism a deadly food poisoning. The
Botox works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which
results in muscle weakness. It does not alter the muscle or the nerve, but prevents
the relay of information between the two ( Botulinum Toxin ). Therefore, Botox is
beneficial in the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines because it causes specific
muscles to relax, which in turn lessens the lines of facial expressions. Because
Botox relaxes specific muscles, it is also used to treat a variety of medical conditions
dealing with muscle spasms.
Botox was first used in the 1980s to treat muscular problems with the eyes, such as
uncontrolled blinking and squinting, lazy eyes and crossed eyes (Health Beat).
Botox has also been used to stop excess sweating by injecting the toxin into the sweat
ducts in the skin (Channel 2000). However, in 1989, Dr.

that children are usually best looked after within their family. The act came into

Consequences Of Prejudice
To Kill a Mockingbird: The Physical Effects Of Prejudice The consequences of
prejudice can be to the biggest or to the smallest extent as seen in the classic, To
Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Although prejudice effects all people differently,
the characters throughout the novel experience the uniting commonality of being
considered outcasts in their society. This is depicted through Harper s writing when
Dolphus Raymond is victimized due to his actions, Boo Radley s reputation
becomes forever tarnished and Atticus is besmirched by the citizens of Maycomb.

and insane human being. For instance, when Scout recalls that Any small crimes

on a regular basis, prejudice concerning him could always be heard around the
town whether it was a warning or a myth. Due to the amount of prejudice Boo
faces, he decides it is best to stay isolated from the people in Maycomb. The reader
knows this could be the case as Scout thinks Boo Radley s stayed shut up in the

of prejudice, Boo s reputation has been tarnished, he could never be trusted to come

no longer looked at as a member of society, but as an outcast who will forever be

This move was largely due to the hardships experienced on American soil during the
Great Depression and its losses in World War I (American Isolationism). However
on December 7th, 1941, the isolationist stance held by the United States was
shattered when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and war was officially declared
on Japan, Germany, and Italy (American Isolationism). This war would go on for
another four years, taking with it close to 50 million lives and devastating not only
families, but entire nations (By The Numbers). Due to the incredible loss of life, the
United States understood that ending the war, especially the ongoing war in the
pacific, was of paramount importance. Unfortunately for the Japanese, it would be its
country s own sense of pride and nationalism that brought its undoing. Despite being
overpowered, without resources, and lacking a functioning navy, the Japanese
government refused to surrender to the United States (Powers). Many have
speculated that a contributing factor may have been Japan s ancient belief in bushido
an old Samurai idea that the supreme sacrifice of life was the purest of
accomplishments (Powers). This suggested that the Japanese army was willing to
fight until they had exhausted all their resources, all their lives, and left their country
in ruin. While he knew that continuing the
The Five Goals Of The Populist Party
7. The Populist Party was created in 1892 in a convention in Omaha by white
farmers. This party s main goals was to have representations and equality, but a
specific goal was to have silver coinage thus encouraging the mass printing of paper
money and circulating currency, this would benefit all Americans because the poor
would now have some money and the wealthy who had gold had more money
because gold is more valuable. The second goal of the populist partywas to settle a
graduated income tax which was first placed on the rich. This income tax would
go to lower the McKinley tariff which taxed farmers for their equipment, another
benefit was that it would act as a balance between the rich and poor where they
world both pay the same rate of tax. The third goal for this party was to have the
decision of direct election of senators because they wanted to resolve issues in
government with democracy. This would allow Americans to vote for politics and
have a direct vote. The fourth goal of the populist party was for the government to
have ownership of transportation such as railroads. The western farmers hated the
railroads because of the unfair exploitation in the cost of shipping their products, and
the costs depended on each railroads owner to decide the price so the populist
wanted an even and fair railroad system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Populist party was successful due to their ideas to improve America, the
coinage of silver and income tax eventually were adopted. Competing with the
Republican and Democratic Party it acted as a third party and wise option to farmers
who sought to change the laws with railroads. But the dissolution occurred in 1896
when they elected William Jennings Bryan as their president a democratic candidate
who took majority of the votes to the Democratic Party. With the rise in prices for
farm equipment which did not help but made matters worse, and the fact that the
party could not get urban supporters to vote diminished its members eventually
leading to its
Success And Success Of Success

whoever owns this must have money. You begin to wonder what he or she does

you engage in conversation, and you re overly excited about this new car and

termination of attempts or endeavors; (2) the attainment of wealth, position, honors

The Armenian Genocide, also known as the Armenian Holocaust, was the organized
killing of Armenians. While there is no clear agreement on how many Armenians lost
their lives, there is general agreement among Western scholars that over a million
Armenians may have perished between 1914 and 1918. It all happened during the
Ottoman Empire, present day Turkey, where 2 million Armenians lived. The

However, in 1913, an ultra nationalist group within the movement seized control of
the group. This faction was comprised of men who believed in creating a pure
Turkish country that excluded non Muslim and non Turkish people like the
Christian Armenians (FACT SHEET). Two of head people of CUP (Committee for
Union and Progress) would later be responsible for initiating the mass murder. They
were Talat Pasha, and Jamal Pasha. Talat Pasha, also known as Mehmed Talat, was
the minister of interior affairs and Jamal Pasha was the Military Governor of Syria.
These leaders became close friends with Germany which in turn supplied the Turks
with military support and training and in 1914, the Ottoman Empire aligned itself
with Germany and the central powers in World War I. As the war raged on, and the
Turks fought the Christian Russians, they began to worry about the Armenians.
They were worried that the Armenians would turn on them and fight on the enemy

The Turkish government starts to poke at an Armenian massacre by publicly
accusing and punishing Armenian bakers on an obviously false charge of poisoning

Doyle s stories and how he has fabricated Sherlock s form of reasoning or
understanding in cases. These people have created many films depicting Doyle s
stories. In some films such as The Great Mouse Detective and Sherlock Holmes, the
story line is the same as Doyle s original but some names and characters have been
changed. In the films, The Great Mouse Detective and Sherlock Holmes, the story
proceeds the same as a detective solving a seemingly impossible case. In Sherlock
Holmes, Sherlock uses his deductive reasoning to solve a case that has been
brought up that no one knows how to solve. The same follows in The Great Mouse
Detective as Basil has a case brought to him about a missing father. The difference
between the two though is that Sherlock in Sherlock Holmes does proceed his cases
sometimes with much rudeness or is willing to fight his way, physically, through any
of his problems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Great Mouse Detective, Basil of Baker Street is the lead detective that uses
the help of an assistant named Dawson to solve a mystery. In this same way
Sherlock in Sherlock Holmes is also a detective that uses the help of an assistant
named Watson to solve cases. The difference however is not the same characters
are pulled from the stories. For example, in The Great Mouse Detective the peg
legged man makes an appearance, but in Sherlock Holmes he does not. The
opposite is for Irene Adler, she is in Sherlock Holmes, but not The Great Mouse
Detective. The characters in both stories are idealized from the original story of
Sherlock Holmes but are made to be different because of the audience the characters
are created
Water Contamination Research Paper
Water contamination due to increased population and industrial activities is one of
the most challenging issues to the researchers, because it is continuously increasing
threats to both human health and the environment. With the rapid development of
industries such as metal plating facilities, mining operations, fertilizer industries,
tanneries, batteries, paper industries and pesticides, etc.,(1,2) heavy metals
wastewaters are directly or indirectly discharged into the environment increasingly,
especially in developing countries. Unlike organic contaminants, heavy metals are not
biodegradable and tend to accumulate in living organisms. Many heavy metalions are
known to be toxic or carcinogenic and cause high blood pressure, anemia, cancer,
renal kidney disease, nervous system... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owing to the standard limits of water, it generates a strong demand to improve the
efficiency of existing methods for removing Pb and Zn from the water. Many
techniques have been reported for the effective removal of hazardous heavy metals
from aqueous solutions such as adsorption, flocculation, coagulation, membrane
filtration, electrochemical operations, solvent extraction, bio sorption, chemical
precipitation, ion exchange, as well as various other processes (6 7). However, most
of these techniques have several disadvantages such as production of secondary
pollution, high cost, high levels of energy and chemicals needed, and weak treatment
operation at low metal concentrations. (8 9). Adsorption is now recognized as an
effective and economic method for heavy metal wastewater treatment. The adsorption
process offers flexibility in design and operation and in many cases will produce high
quality treated
Examples Of Mistakes To Avoid While Making Career
Change
Mistakes to avoid while making career change
A career is a long journey. During the career you have to go through many ups and
downs which many bring undesired situations and you have to find solutions to it. A
person becomes expert in that career if pursued for long time due to experiences he
or she gets.
A career change is a major milestone in the path of career. You may move to
complete random path of career after career change, if followed in wrong direction.
Your expertise level is lost and you learn new skills which are completely different
from your earlier career. Hence few mistakes are to be necessarily avoided while
switching to new career.

Essay on Benefits of Video Games
Most people think that playing video games will lead you to a life of crime,
delinquency, and slothfulness. The opposite, however, is the truth.
Video games can be used to improve hand eye coordination, vision, reaction times,
and much more. Does this mean kids should spend all day, everyday playing? No.
This occurs when they are used properly and in moderation.
Video games actually help your motor skills and other physical aspects, contrary to
popular belief.
In a study done in New York, one set of surgeons played video games for 3 hours a
week, while the other set played none. The set who played the video games made 37
percent fewer mistakes during laparoscopic (controlling a small camera through a

In another study, those who play action video games on a regular basis can process
visual information faster and can track 30 percent more objects than non gamers.
Action video games are shown to increase one s contrast sensitivity, or the ability to
notice minute changes in color against a uniform background. One group of gamers
played action games, like Call of Duty, while the others played The Sims. The Call of
Duty group showed a 38 percent increase in aforementioned sensitivity, whereas the
Sims group showed none whatsoever.
Video games can also slim you down. Wii Fit, for example, has players doing yoga,
stretches and other exercise in order to unlock fun yet exercise related games. Dance
Dance Revolution requires players to dance by placing their feet on the
corresponding arrows. After a while, players work up a sweat due to the required
rapid movement. Microsoft s new toy, Project
Natal for the Xbox 360, lets gamers use their whole body to control their on screen
counterparts.
Gaming can also make you smarter. People who play video games display fluid
intelligence, or problem solving. Managing multiple objectives and multiple
resources is one of the goals that helps you become smarter.
Learning the rules of the game and what strategy works best for you also helps you.
Gaming can also you learn. Since video games are driven by goals

Comparing Dziga Vertov s Film, Man with a Movie Camera and Run Lola Run
The main and essential thing is : the sensory exploration of the world through film.
We therefore take as a point of departure the use of the camera as a keno eye, more
perfect than the human eye, for the exploration of the chaos of visual phenomena that
fills space.
Dziga Vertov , Manifesto The Council of Three (1923)
The innovative theories and filmmaking techniques of Dziga Vertov revolutionized
the way films are made today. Man With a Movie Camera (1929), a documentary that
represented the peak of the Soviet avant garde film movement in the twenties,
displayed techniques in montage, creative camera angles, rich imagery, but most

Not filming life unawares for the sake of the unawares , but in order to show people
without masks, without makeup, to catch them through the eye of the camera in a
moment when they are not acting... (41 Vertov)
His original ways of thinking, isolated him from all other filmmakers. Even his
style of using montage (editing style commonly used by Soviet directors) in Man
with a Movie Camera was very different. In this film, hours of footage are edited
together in many cuts, which is the style that Vertov is well known for. His cuts are
very rapid and he displays them accordingly to music to add excitement to the
sequence. The sequences act on all three levels of montage: narrative, intellectual, and
emotional. For example in the beginning of Man with a Movie Camera, there is a
sequence in a theatre where the cameraman sets up the film for the audience to watch
(appendix 1). The lights come on, the seats go down, the cameraman sets up the
projector, the audience enters, the lights dim, the orchestra awaits and then the
manifest begins. The narration comes from the editor throughout the whole film. The
cameraman cannot possibly be the narrator since he is randomly out of frame and it
is a silent film.
From the very beginning... the centrality of the cameraman s vision is put into
question, since he moves out

Cultural Conflict In Ama Ata Aidoo s Dilemma Of A Ghost
The conflict within Dilemma of a Ghost by Ama Ata Aidoo seems to arise from
the Eulalie s foreignness, however; it arises from both party s lack of knowledge of
the others culture and Ato s new Americanized beliefs. The world is comprised of
diverse cultures and beliefs. Ideals of one s culture can be tested when influences
from the outside changed a person s ideals. In Dilemma of a Ghost, not only does
cultureconflict arise between Ato s wife Eulalie and Esi but also from Ato himself
and how his ideals have changed since going to school in America. The culture
conflict between Eulalie and Esi seemed to be conveyed through many mediums. It
is conveyed through roles of the family, differences in food choices, difference in
language. The biggest conflict between Eulalie and Esi is the couple s decision on
not having children.
In the prelude, a poem titled I am the bird of the Wayside foreshadows what
conflicts the reader will discover in the play. This an important part of the play
because it gives the reader issues that the play will center around. During act one of
the play Ato returns home from schooling that his mother (Esi) helped put him

Traditional Voting In America
Introduction Most democratic societies are fueled by the power of the people and
when the opportunity to use that power is removed you should expect rash
repercussions. History has displayed that time and time again. America being the long
time democratic leader of the free world has seen many instances where groups within
the population felt like their votingrights weren t being respected. America as a
nation has slightly overcame those struggles but currently there are still many
obstacles between the average voter and actually casting a vote. Many problems
include lack of time, lack of convenience, lack of knowledge, and more. To combat
this we have explored the alternatives to the traditional voting in a booth method that
is so popular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many jobs require people to travel thus disqualifying them from voting where they
are registered. People with disabilities have a hard time getting to the polls and are
not always given special accommodation from the government in order to ensure
they are able to vote. It is also inconvenient for elderly people to get the polls in
order to vote for things that directly affect them. Because of this, issues regarding
raising minimum wage for the working class, rights for people with disabilities, and
Social Security are not reflected in the polls. In a democratic society, it is important
to have representation of all citizens. Unfortunately, the current voting system is a
way to subconsciously disenfranchise certain

traumatic and life changing experiences, even before we knew what Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was. However, not a lot has changed since we
began acknowledging PTSD as more than just depression or anxiety. PTSD has
slowly become more recognized among the medical community due to an increase
in the number of cases; are we to blame for that? Is there discrimination for people
that suffer from PTSD? Through my research I found multiple cases where a person
with PTSD was denied a job or suffered other indignities because of their diagnosis.

PTSD is not taken as seriously as it should be, and this has had detrimental effects on
current and veteran soldiers that we do not fully understand.
Based on this article s information I can see where some of the criteria actually
apply to me, does this mean that I suffer from PTSD or are these points not
actually valid ways of preforming the diagnosis that veterans should expect while
they are being evaluated? As stated by David Dobbs in his article The PTSD Trap,
The diagnostic criteria for PTSD... represent a faulty, outdated construct that has
been badly overextended . . . routinely mistakes depression, anxiety, or even normal
adjustment. (Dobbs 6) Through this article Dobbs explains the views of a Captain
Stevens who aided in helping Iraqi GI s that were wounded daily from crossfire or
other war related injuries. Stevens had experienced traumatic events every day, he
understood what the Veterans Affairs were seeing, but he did not understand how
they could tell who truly had PTSD as opposed to those who were suffering from
depression or the anxieties of war. When soldiers who were thought to have PTSD
arrived back to the states they were then evaluated to determine if they presented with
symptoms that were associated with the American Psychiatric Association s eight key
points that I mentioned above. If a soldier presented with them they were then sent
for treatment to aid them in their battle against PTSD. I understand that this has been

Symbolic Interactionism In The Media
Media has been one of the biggest influence in any person s life no matter what age
they are. They are so many forms of media which makes it almost impossible to
avoid everyday, and with the advancement of technology it is only going to get
worse. Therefore, since it is almost impossible to avoid media, companies use this to
their advantage to send out messages or advertise their products through the media. In
addition to advertisingthrough media, businesses send out subliminal messages with
symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionism is a sociological perspective that is
influential in many areas of the sociological discipline, meaning that symbols are
used to promote a certain action from someone, but in this case I am referring to
companies promoting consumer participation through magazines and television
shows.
Magazine reading has gone down in the past decade, but it is still a great way to
advertise. Since the amount of people reading magazines have gone down, magazine
companies use symbolic interactionism in a very unique way. The method is that they

One common form of symbolic interactionism is contests or sweepstakes to have
the audience participate in different aspects of the show other than watching the

airs on TV network AMC. While watching an episode of the show, there is a
sweepstakes called Dead Sweepstakes which incorporates giving out two code
words during both commercial breaks that leads to prizes. Also, the TV series has
video games, figures, and apps to increase profit and advertise the show. Overall, the
consumer s own interest is their downfall because they are forced to see those

History And Construction Of T.d Judah
T.D Judah was an American railroad and civil engineer who was a central figure in
the original promotion and design of the first Transcontinental Railroad. Being
that he was the main engineer he did most of the land surveying before the actual
plan was devised. He was determined to find the best route for the railroad over the
Sierra Nevada Mountains. In order to fund this massive project, Judah allied with
the Big Four . The Big Four were: Leland Stanford, Collis P. Huntington, Mark
Hopkins, and Charles Crocker. These men managed financing and construction of
the CPRR (Central Pacific Railroad). Up until the Civil War era, travel and
commerce were both slow and messy for individuals that moved westward and
wanted to sell their products back to the East. In 1862 and 1864, Congress pushed
through two acts called the Pacific Railroad acts that created the opportunity for the
East to be tied to the West. Although this war during the Civil War, Southern
Democrats were not apart of Congress, which left the Northern Republicans in charge
of its completion. Within a short amount of time, the Union Pacific Railroad
Company and the Central Pacific Railroad Company received millions of acres of
land, plenty of supplies, and large attraction in investments for the railroad s
development.
Over time, the railroad influenced the industrial and commercial aspect of America
by facilitating traveling and network reaching for trade and business. Standardized

was and is one of the greatest monarchs in English history. Obtaining the crown at a
young age of twenty five, she seized a bankrupt country caused by previous rulers,
a country with an unstable religion, and loose ties with other great powers of the
world. Elizabeth I ruled for nearly half a century granting her the remembrance
with reigning with stability, the flourishment of the arts, and increased trade.
Elizabeth s sense of duty to her people was very admirable and that is one the
reasons that makes her such a great monarch. She was committed to her people and
never swayed from doing such that. In saying that, one of the ways people showed
their love and to show her greatness it was represented in portraits. Portraiture of
Queen Elizabeth I illustrates an evolution of her reign over England and Ireland in
the years of 1558 1603. Early portraits of young Elizabeth showcase what is going

books and status clothing would be displayed in the earlier portraits. Later portraits
of Elizabeth also showcase her life and the importance of virginity, purity, crowns,

Early Medieval Art Summary
Book Review: Early Medieval Art , by Lawrence Nees
It was during the Middle Ages (300 1000 AD), that various distinctive forms of art
began to emerge in western Europe. A variety of significant mosaics, buildings and
other forms of art came from this time that continue to be analyzed in the present. In
the book Early Medieval Art, Lawrence Nees successfully provides an intricate
interpretation of these various art forms that developed in this time in history while
allowing the reader to conceptualize the emerging cultures of the first millennium in
Europe. Nees is able to do this by outlining key aspects of the studied works of art
that symbolize how life was at this point in history. At the beginning of his book, it
is apparent that Nees seeks to provide a less traditional view on art at this time
when he states, I offer a different story of early medieval art in place of the more
traditional tale of the decline of Rome and triumph of Christianity . Nees thesis is
subsequently inexplicitly stated to analyze the role of tradition in early medieval
western art and its transformation as time progressed. By following a non
conventional thesis when writing this book, Nees is able to contribute a new
perspective into the overall topic of medieval art. Although Nees clearly states that he
seeks to explore other analyses of early medieval art that don t focus on the decline of
Roman culture, he doesn t neglect this important topic completely. To completely
ignore this
The Most Dangerous Game Personal Response
Imagine you are walking into a library. You pick up a book and start reading the
summary. You notice that the character s life is very similar to what you are

The Importance Of Screen Acting
Screen Acting Assignment.
There are many skills in the performing arts world, and as a professional actor, you
will need to acquire these skills in order to become the best actor you can be.
To start with, it is important that an actor follows the next two professional acting
rules. The first rule is to punctual. It is important to be punctual, as you may be
needed on the set to perform or rehearse lines before shooting. It could be argued that
being punctual is one of the most important rules an actor should follow, and without
punctuality, an actor or performer won t be cast in performances or hired. Therefore,
punctuality is a key skill an actor should learn, with techniques helping to keep
punctuality. For example, setting multiple alarms, or resetting your sleep schedule
have been proven to help people maintain their punctuality.
The second rule is being professional. As an actor, you may be needed to inspire or
empower others, and by not acting professional or being immature, you are letting
down your own work, the people who got you where you are now, but you are also
letting down yourself, in the sense that you aren t living to your full potential. It
could be argued that being professional increases the rate of employability as casting
agents will be more impressed with the attitude and behavior the actor is expressing.
Finally, it is important to act professional as you can promote respect, therefore losing
the lack of gender and sexual equality, and reducing the stigma around certain
character roles.
You will need to learn about the specific techniques known as technical skills. An
example of technical skills would be stage left and stage right. These skills are the
technical name for the sides of a stage. Actors use this term as they believe it is a
more technical and professional than the sides of a stage. Therefore, the technical
terms are skills that should be used on stage as it will make the actor sound a lot
more professional. It could be argued that knowing the technical terms stage left and
stage right allow the actor to act in a completely better manner, therefore resulting in
acting and looking more professional. Always remember that stage left and right are
from the actor s point

(Boggs, Petrie, 2008) For them to create objects they first start with a blank screen

size which are important and should be consistent with all the elements in the
project so the layers of lines are built up to the patches and that creates the model
that defines the shape of the object. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) The modeler contains the
power of design; which the animator provides the illusion of life. The animator also
uses tools to make objects move which helps the animation process begin the same
way, with a storyboard. A storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the
elements will move and interact with each other. This process is important to the
animator because it helps decide what movements need to be assigned to objects in
the animation. The animator must also have key points of movements for each object
in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each object in a frame by
frame sequence. The final product when put together, gives the look of fluid
movement which when the modeler is formed, the animator provides motion. These
designs and elements are nothing but empty or hollow forms

The water quality of the U High creek was determined to be excellent. However, not
all areas of water have an excellent water quality. One way humans can negatively
impact the water quality of an area of water can include using large amounts of

thus causing the buildup of algae and blocking sunlight from providing energy to the

negatively involves using chemical waste products in factories because chemicals

kill off animals living in the water. Additionally, these chemicals can invade rivers so

The Netting Trash Trap captures and removes waste from stormwater and
industrial plants using energy from the flow of the water to trap trash in
disposable mesh. (Fresh Creek Technologies, Inc., 10/27/16) A benefit of this
solution is that it doesn t require or need a pump or plug in to work. Because the
Netting Trash Trap runs by the energy of the flow, systems don t have a problem
wearing out or needing additional power. In addition to this, the Netting Trash
Trap systems are designed for an extended trouble free service. These devices can
last over 20 years. (Fresh Creek Technologies, Inc., 10/17/16) However, if there are
animals living in the same water as the Netting Trash Trap, then they could get
caught and accidentally killed. In addition to this, because it is unclear where the
disposable mesh goes after it traps all floatables, the mesh could accidentally get let
into the water and become pollution rather than a pollution
Electronic Banking in Nigeria
Electronic Retail Payment Systems:
User Acceptability and Payment Problems in Nigeria
1.1Introduction
The world has witnessed an upsurge of electronic payment instruments meant to
facilitate trade and simplify payments. (Abor, 2004) Before the introduction of
electronic payment into the Nigerian banking system, all customers had to walk into
the actual bank to do transaction of all kinds. Customers had to queue up and spend
more hours to talk to a teller to make their transactions. (Abor, 2004) The
inconveniences caused by these long queues can discourage someone to make
payment. For many years, bankers, technology specialists, entrepreneurs, and others
have advocated for the replacement of physical cash and the introduction of more ...

1.3Factors Affecting Payment Choice
1.3.1 Customers Wealth/Levels of Income
Consistent with Kwast and Kennickell (1997) research, wealth has an important role
to play in terms of consumer s decisions on payment choice. Consumers wealth may
influence payment choice and the availability of payment instruments that one can
choose. For instance, while wealthy consumers may be able to fund their obligations
generally, consumers that experience brief financial shortfalls may not find electronic
bill payment desirable as a payment instrument.
(Mantel, 2000) In such a situation, the consideration of the risk factor will let some
consumers to avoid using pre authorized electronic bill payment.
1.3.2 Educational Level
On the bank customers survey, we also focused on education, because this might
affect the demand for electronic banking products. For example, Kwast and
Kennickell (1997) have illustrated how education play important role in determining
household use of e money products.
Kwast and Kennickell concluded that the US market for such products is still highly

Know Sweat: Falsehoods and Facts You Probably Don t Know About
Antiperspirants...But Should!
By Merilee Kern, MBA
Sweat understandably gets a bad rap. It can ruin our hair; our clothes; our furniture;
our mood; our image at home, work and socially; our ability to exercise, play music
and handle gadgets; and far more. And while men tend to sweat more than women
under normal circumstances, both genders are equally impacted by hyperhidrosis a
serious medical condition causing people to sweat excessively (up to 4 or 5 times
more than normal). In fact, according to the International Hyperhidrosis Society the
scholars of sweat nearly 367 million people of all ages struggle with hyperhidrosis on
their hands, feet, face, underarms, or body.
Those living with hyperhidrosis suffer from extreme, uncomfortable, embarrassing,
and emotionally devastating sweating. In fact, an infographic from Dermira an
innovative biotech dedicated to developing treatments for chronic skin conditions is
rife with scary hyperhidrosis statistics and sheds revealing light on this debilitating
sweat inducing condition.
Whether you sweat situationally at a normal level or have clinical hyperhidrosis,
there s one shared weapon: antiperspirants. Love them or hate them, pretty much all
of us need or could certainly benefit from them. But buyer beware; all antiperspirants
are not created equal. And some misnomers exist about antiperspirants that are

How the Montessori skill builders assist point 1 and 2 above.
Creativity is the making of anything and children are less interested in the product
than they are interested in the process. They are learning without an outcome in mind
and will construct meaning to any skill acquisition or concept as it requires them to

A teacher could either practice a art , hobby or craft or encourage visiting experts to
share their pursuits with the children. Like any other area it needs to presented as a

Maria Montessori states she has not developed this arts program without analysing
the difficulties and barriers involved. Her objective is to give the child the

as demonstrated by the teacher. These activities are especially designed to develop
muscular control such as the ones needed for efficient scissor and a pencil.
There are threading activities for needle craft, folding activities which can lead to
the creation of concertina cards, fans or origami. Scissor and pasting activities help
the child acquire the skills for collage and decoupage. Stamping and printing

The Twelfth Day of July
The Twelfth Day of July
Task: Explain how Kevin and Sadie change by the end of the novel
The Twelfth Day of July is a book by Joan Lingard. This book is about the discord
between the Catholic and Protestant religions. It centres on the characters of Kevin
McCoy, who is Catholic, and Sadie Jackson, who is Protestant and how their
friendship develops despite the religious bigotry which affects the country they live
in. The Twelfth Day of July is a celebration in Northern Ireland, for Protestants which
started in the 18th century celebrating the Glorious Revolution and the victory of
Protestant King Billy over Catholic King James II at the Battle of Boyne in 1690.

kitchen table KING BILLY WAS HERE. LONG LIVE KING BILLY . She thinks
she has got away with it when she hears a noise behind her; she turns around only
to be confronted by Kevin. She tries to run out the kitchen and throws flour all over
the place as a distraction. She succeeded, she got out of the kitchen and hid in a
stinky bin, she heard voices outside the bin, Kevin giving orders to his friends to
find her. The smell of the bin made her wretch, but she could not leave it just yet,
someone kicked the bin and she felt the vibrations through her body. She felt like she
was in there for an eternity. Eventually the voices faded and she left the bin but not
the area.
The next morning her brother goes into her room to wake her only to find her bed
empty, he thinks this is strange, he goes down stairs and there is still no sign of
Sadie. He decides to go to Kevins house and asked his friends Linda and Steve to go
with him, they go in search of Sadie, when they arrive at Kevins house they are
told by the McCoy s that they have not seen her so they go home to speak to his

The Rights And Effectiveness Of Drugs
Abstract This paper will explore The Kefauver Harris bill that which ensured
prescription drug manufacturers to provide proof of the security and effectiveness
of drugs before administering them to consumers. The background information
used in this paper comes directly from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
website as well as from The New England Journal of Medicine to give an in depth
view on how the amendment was established. The focus will be primarily on the
effect of law, the criticism, support and opposition received as a result of the law s
ratification. Additionally, further discussion into the Kefauver Harris Amendment

genuine work with given skills and talents to fulfill the work he assigned us to do.

unfortunate results, the law ultimately conquered all necessary outcomes. An
overview of the law, a Christian worldview of the law, and provisions transpired in

Circumstantial Evidence In John s The Man From Earth
People become skeptical about an unusual story even if there is a circumstantial
evidence. People add circumstantial evidence of the story when they try to share it
with others making them believe it. Sometimes speakers provide physical evidence in
addition to circumstantial evidence, but the audiences still tend to have doubts in
their minds. It is very common to hear from audiences saying that they think the story
is true because of the provided evidence, but they still doubt it. In The Man From
Earth (2007), John describes what his early life was like and how he behaved
according to landscape and natural events such as the sun rising and sunset, but
colleagues call it textbook knowledge and disbelieve him. This does not likely
happen if the subject of the story is something that happens on a daily basis.

Most people think that there is only one true world in which they live, and
everyone lives their own life in this world. This is not true, unfortunately. The
world in which each person lives is the world for himself or herself that is built up
by his or her own sense and thoughts, which is slightly different from the true
world. The word that expresses this well is a phrase that the world exists only as
much as people know. It is not that people perceive the world because it exists, but
the world exists because people perceive. And people are very vulnerable hearing the
truth that breaks this world of their own. For instance, Children who believe in the
existence of Santa Claus may react violently if they hear that Santa Claus is not real.
Edith, in The Man From Earth (2007), becomes outraged when John says he was
Jesus who tried to pass down Buddha s lesson to others. Colleagues go through
emotional up and downs constantly and even upset while they listen to John s story
which stands against their common sense and faithful

  • 2. The Effects Of The BP Oil Spill On April 20, 2010, a massive offshore drilling rig, known as the Deepwater Horizon, exploded and set fire. The results were devastating. Eleven people lost their lives, and approximately seventeen were injured ( BP Oil Spill Timeline ). The explosion caused oil pipes to rupture and spill thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The BP oil spillhas since turned into one of the worst disasters in recent memory. The damage that it has caused is insurmountable, and it has taken its toll on a wide range of people (Walsh). Making Matters worse, the spill has spawned many controversies (Lustgarten). The question, however, remains the same: Why did this happen in the first place? The BP Oil Spill is the result of a series of events that eventually led to thousands of barrels of petroleum leaking into the Gulf. In early September, BP released a report that analyzed the events leading up to the accident. The report states that the fire was caused by a release of hydrocarbons from the well, and then onto the oil rig (BP Internal Investigation Team). The Deepwater horizon was equipped with failsafe mechanisms in case anything went wrong. The problem is that they all failed as well. Once the rig sank, it caused three breaks in the pipes. That is when the spill occurred. There were multiple chances to stop this. And they all failed, says Malcolm Spaulding, a professor of ocean engineering at the University of Rhode Island (Walsh) One of the most unsettling aspects of the

As a result, World War I began and lasted approximately 4 years. This was a war between Germany and the Allied Nations. On June 28, 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germanyand the Allied Nations. This treaty was a peace document that would end World War I. Ironically, Treaty of Versailleswas the principal cause of World War II. Treaty of Versailles stated that Germany had to take the blame for causing World War I (World War Two Causes). It also forced Germany to lose territory, pay for the damages caused by the war, and their air force was forbidden. As a result, the Treaty of Versailles weakened Germany. The treaty stated that one of the ways that Germany could pay for the war expenses was by giving other countries some of their goods. As a result, Germany s economy worsened. The German people were unhappy with the treaty because they believed that it was unjust and biased. They thought that it was unnecessarily punitive and profoundly shameful (Hamner). In distress, People were dissatisfied with the government and voted to power a man who promised to rip up the Treaty of Versailles (World War Two Causes). This man was Adolf Hitler. Hitler s goal was to eliminate the Treaty of Versailles. He wanted to fix the problems that the treaty had caused like poverty, unemployment, and inflation. He also wanted to get rid of Germany s

There are more accidental death and injury as well as some fatalities due to firearms, and it occurs more than you think. In the United states there is one gun for every home. If the government was more forceful with their laws, then firearmrelated deaths, and injuries that occur from children would come to an end. ( Howard, 2005, pg 374 9 ) Research has shown that the sixth leading cause of deathfor children 5 9 years old, and the eighth leading cause of death for children between 1 4 years of age are caused by firearms. The author has presented various ways to understand school shooting that may eventually prove helpful, but they also highlighted the problem, tensions, and contradiction associated with each position. In the end, the author argues, the circumstance surrounding school shootings and demonstrates the need for the tragic sense in education. The need for the tragic sense, while manifesting in many different areas of schooling, it exemplifies most clearly in the targeted school shootings. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and Bureau of Justice Statistics concludes, Between the years of (1992) and (2004), the (NCES) says that the victimization rates for students ages 12 18 generally declined both at school and away from school; that the patterns held for the total crime rate as well as for thefts, violent crimes, and serious violent crimes. Due to the increase in usage of web services, it has become of prime importance to design systems for effective web service recommendation. In our project, we propose a system for effective web service recommendations incorporating users preferences regarding quality and diversities amongst web services. Users requirements are considered and mined from his usage history. Then we find functional similarities using clustering techniques followed by applying a ranking algorithm to list top k services. To discover high quality Web services, a number of QoS models for Web services and QoS driven service selection approaches have been proposed in the service computing field. In this system user explicitly specifies his/her interests and QoS requirements, and submits them to the service discovery system. Then the service discovery system matches the user s interests and QoS requirements with

The Odessa Steps sequence is an example of Eisensteinian attractions, which is a tactic that is used to shock or jolt the audience, mainly through editing. The scene I am describing is segment C. Segment C is the scene that consists of the cherub statues, the collapsing iron gate, and the lion statues. Segment C consists of nine shots. The first shot is a cherub extending its right arm above its head to reach a club. The cherub is looking straight ahead. Additionally, the cherub is sitting with its legs wide open. The second shot in the segment is another cherub looking to the left. The cherub is grasping... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, the narrative is disrupted by the cherubs and the lion statues, but compared to the other segments the cherubs and the lion statues do not intensify the shots of the iron gate collapsing compared to the occurrences in segment B and segment A, where those shots together build upon the intensity of the shots within their own segments. In segment B the shots continue to intensify the narrative especially seeing the helpless baby in the carriage on the cusp of descending down the steps, and then the solider slashing people with his saber, and the woman who was shot in the eye. In my opinion, these all continue to intensify the narrative because the shots are brief but it s all shocking and addresses the spectator especially when the woman who is shot in the eye looks at the camera in horror. Segment B continues to shock one, whereas segment C disrupts the continuity of the scene. Segment A is also disruptive like segment C because of the title that says and suddenly, and the lady who is shaking her head and yelling, and then the lady with the white parasol heading toward the camera, although this is disruptive it also intensifies the narrative because the narrative completely switches from the people waving to the people beginning to run for their

Morgan Freeman speaks these words in the movie Se7en after declaring that he is going to quit his job as a detective. His character sees crimes of hate, aggression and murder every day, and he also observes the public s reaction to them. People turn a blind eye; they no longer care. What has happened to society? Why has what used to be considered incredibly shocking dissolved into what is considered an everyday and usual activity? Bataille s main character is almost a complete opposite to what is considered a normal human being. The character loves what is evil and debaucherous. He even finds the dead more sexually attractive than the living. Bataille uses this estranged character to perform actions that should be everyday; however, the nature of the character performing the actions unfamiliarizes them. A perfect example of this is when the character is sitting down for an evening meal at a pleasant restaurant. Instead of finishing the meal and his conversation with the woman sitting next to him, the character violently stabs the woman in the leg with his fork (Bataille 39). Such an action is completely out of place, yet it happens as though it is ordinary and everyday. Looking back from a modern perspective, Highmore states that Surrealism s attention to everyday life stands the everyday on its head (Highmore 49), meaning that the Surrealists accomplished their task of upsetting the normal and confusing the ordinary. However, Highmore also notes the second accomplishment of Surrealism when he says, There is a danger that Surrealism s attempt to make the familiar (the everyday) unfamiliar has itself become all too familiar
  • 8. Positive Effects Of Recycling Recycling means to regain old materials into new, and allowed the human to use it again. Many countries suffered from the waste, which is sometimes lead people to migrate because of the side effects of not recycling. Countries which not use the old materials for recycling face many problems, such as, pollution, pressure in the landfill and other which can affect on human health. Also, it can affect on the economic costs, because the government have to pay to clean and repair the damages. For example, china need to spend about 1.75 trillion yuan to clean the air pollution in their country between 2013 and 2017 (according to Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning). Results of recyclingcan be grouped into three main headings: minimize the landfill, save our resources, and it could be a way to save money. One of the positive effect to recycle old trash that is help to reduce the landfills. To explain, many countries doesn t use the method of recycling, so they burned the trash or throw it in empty area. But humans do not know the side effect of their behavior. Burning trash will cause air pollution and increased emissions of dangerous gases, such as, methane and carbon monoxide. However, recycling materials like paper could really help to reduce landfills, because paper took quit time to brake down. A perfect example of this, in the United States people have used more paper for a very long time, and the amount of the paper in landfills has increased, and when US had

On the day of April 20, 1999 in Columbine, Colorado, 12th graders Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into Columbine High School with guns and homemade bombs and killed 13 people, wounded 24, and later, turned the guns on themselves. Sue Klebold is now a suicide prevention activist and has also written a book, A Mother s Reckoning, where she talks of the events before and after the Columbine shooting. In her book, she writes that there were no clues of Dylan being violent and that she missed signs of psychological deterioration. Vampires Never Die, By Guillermo Del Toro And Chuck Hogan In the text Vampires Never Die, by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, the authors main purpose is to tell the origin of vampires and how the perception of vampires has changed throughout history. Although the myth of an undead monster was created before the word vampire ever was, this text begins with a story told by John William Polidorithat created the two main branches of vampirefiction known today. These branches include the vampire as a romantic hero and the vampire as an undead monster. Moreover, Polidori s creation was widely accepted as being based upon Lord Byron, a superstar in the era of the 1800s. This new twist to an old idea was thought of by Polidori because he was a doctor and friend to Lord Byron. Nonetheless, Polidori resented Lord Byron s charm, physique, and brilliance thus creating the alter egos. However, this text also suggest vampires may have originated from the repressed memories humans had as primates. Therefore, out of necessity, people may have been cannibalistic. In addition, this text suggest that vampires do not wish to destroy human lives but rather live for eternity. Furthermore, vampire characters are often used today in a variety of media ranging anywhere from cereal boxes to romantic fiction. Additionally, Polidori s Dracula vampire movie was a success due to the featuring of new technology at the time including telegraphs, typing machines, and blood transfusions. Everyday, as I go through the morning ritual of applying my make up, the visible signs of aging are becoming more apparent. I see skin that is starting to sag and everyday, I swear, a new wrinkle appears. Of the many things I can find fault with on my aging face, the most bothersome are the deep creases between my eyebrows. In addition, considering it is a relatively new procedure, I wanted to know if there were other doctors in the local area who were performing this procedure and, most importantly, the price I would have to pay to undo my furrowed brow. Through my research I found that Botox, the trade name for Botulinum Toxin type A, is a neuromuscular junction blocking agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum ( Botulinum Toxin ). In other words, Botox is derived from the same poisonous bacterium which causes botulism a deadly food poisoning. The Botox works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which results in muscle weakness. It does not alter the muscle or the nerve, but prevents the relay of information between the two ( Botulinum Toxin ). Therefore, Botox is beneficial in the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines because it causes specific muscles to relax, which in turn lessens the lines of facial expressions. Because Botox relaxes specific muscles, it is also used to treat a variety of medical conditions dealing with muscle spasms. Botox was first used in the 1980s to treat muscular problems with the eyes, such as uncontrolled blinking and squinting, lazy eyes and crossed eyes (Health Beat). Botox has also been used to stop excess sweating by injecting the toxin into the sweat ducts in the skin (Channel 2000). However, in 1989, Dr.

This war would go on for another four years, taking with it close to 50 million lives and devastating not only families, but entire nations (By The Numbers). Due to the incredible loss of life, the United States understood that ending the war, especially the ongoing war in the pacific, was of paramount importance. Unfortunately for the Japanese, it would be its country s own sense of pride and nationalism that brought its undoing. Despite being overpowered, without resources, and lacking a functioning navy, the Japanese government refused to surrender to the United States (Powers). This party s main goals was to have representations and equality, but a specific goal was to have silver coinage thus encouraging the mass printing of paper money and circulating currency, this would benefit all Americans because the poor would now have some money and the wealthy who had gold had more money because gold is more valuable. The second goal of the populist partywas to settle a graduated income tax which was first placed on the rich. This income tax would go to lower the McKinley tariff which taxed farmers for their equipment, another benefit was that it would act as a balance between the rich and poor where they world both pay the same rate of tax. The third goal for this party was to have the decision of direct election of senators because they wanted to resolve issues in government with democracy. This would allow Americans to vote for politics and have a direct vote. The fourth goal of the populist party was for the government to have ownership of transportation such as railroads. To him the house is just a place to stay and the car is just a thing to drive, but to you these things represent reaching a level of success. What is success? Success is a term with many definitions. Webster s dictionary defines success in four different ways: (1) the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; (2) the attainment of wealth, position, honors or the like; (3) a successful performance or achievement; and (4) a person or thing that is successful. Despite the seeming clear definitions of the word, it s different for each individual. However, out of the four meanings, many only associated the word with definitionnumber two. While there is no clear agreement on how many Armenians lost their lives, there is general agreement among Western scholars that over a million Armenians may have perished between 1914 and 1918. It all happened during the Ottoman Empire, present day Turkey, where 2 million Armenians lived. The Armenian Genocideis the second most studied massacre, after the Holocaust. This faction was comprised of men who believed in creating a pure Turkish country that excluded non Muslim and non Turkish people like the Christian Armenians (FACT SHEET). Two of head people of CUP (Committee for Union and Progress) would later be responsible for initiating the mass murder. They were Talat Pasha, and Jamal Pasha. Talat Pasha, also known as Mehmed Talat, was the minister of interior affairs and Jamal Pasha was the Military Governor of Syria. These leaders became close friends with Germany which in turn supplied the Turks with military support and training and in 1914, the Ottoman Empire aligned itself with Germany and the central powers in World War I. As the war raged on, and the Turks fought the Christian Russians, they began to worry about the Armenians. They were worried that the Armenians would turn on them and fight on the enemy s side. Therefore CUP decided the best thing to do is eliminate the race, wipe them off the face of the earth. The start of the genocide started early in the year of 1915. The world changes and new cases appear every day like in the novel series of the The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Many readers have been very much interested in Doyle s stories and how he has fabricated Sherlock s form of reasoning or understanding in cases. Early Medieval Art Summary Book Review: Early Medieval Art , by Lawrence Nees It was during the Middle Ages (300 1000 AD), that various distinctive forms of art began to emerge in western Europe. A variety of significant mosaics, buildings and other forms of art came from this time that continue to be analyzed in the present. In the book Early Medieval Art, Lawrence Nees successfully provides an intricate interpretation of these various art forms that developed in this time in history while allowing the reader to conceptualize the emerging cultures of the first millennium in Europe. Nees is able to do this by outlining key aspects of the studied works of art that symbolize how life was at this point in history. At the beginning of his book, it is apparent that Nees seeks to provide a less traditional view on art at this time when he states, I offer a different story of early medieval art in place of the more traditional tale of the decline of Rome and triumph of Christianity . Nees thesis is subsequently inexplicitly stated to analyze the role of tradition in early medieval western art and its transformation as time progressed. By following a non conventional thesis when writing this book, Nees is able to contribute a new perspective into the overall topic of medieval art. What you probably don t know is that what you are relating is characterization, conflict, and narration. • 38. The Importance Of Screen Acting Screen Acting Assignment. There are many skills in the performing arts world, and as a professional actor, you will need to acquire these skills in order to become the best actor you can be. To start with, it is important that an actor follows the next two professional acting rules. The first rule is to punctual. It is important to be punctual, as you may be needed on the set to perform or rehearse lines before shooting. It could be argued that being punctual is one of the most important rules an actor should follow, and without punctuality, an actor or performer won t be cast in performances or hired. Therefore, punctuality is a key skill an actor should learn, with techniques helping to keep punctuality. For example, setting multiple alarms, or resetting your sleep schedule have been proven to help people maintain their punctuality. The second rule is being professional. As an actor, you may be needed to inspire or empower others, and by not acting professional or being immature, you are letting down your own work, the people who got you where you are now, but you are also letting down yourself, in the sense that you aren t living to your full potential. It could be argued that being professional increases the rate of employability as casting agents will be more impressed with the attitude and behavior the actor is expressing. Finally, it is important to act professional as you can promote respect, therefore losing the lack of gender and sexual equality, and reducing the stigma around certain character roles. You will need to learn about the specific techniques known as technical skills. An example of technical skills would be stage left and stage right. These skills are the technical name for the sides of a stage. Actors use this term as they believe it is a more technical and professional than the sides of a stage. Therefore, the technical terms are skills that should be used on stage as it will make the actor sound a lot more professional. It could be argued that knowing the technical terms stage left and stage right allow the actor to act in a completely better manner, therefore resulting in acting and looking more professional. Always remember that stage left and right are from the actor s point

A storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the elements will move and interact with each other. This process is important to the animator because it helps decide what movements need to be assigned to objects in the animation. The animator must also have key points of movements for each object in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each object in a frame by frame sequence. The final product when put together, gives the look of fluid movement which when the modeler is formed, the animator provides motion. These designs and elements are nothing but empty or hollow forms
