The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and
education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United
States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy
basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy
existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child
(Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son
preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p.
41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the
female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender
inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment
between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide
literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a

Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed
Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a
sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in the
Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that Jerusalem
was chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special, singular space; the
description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to economic power and
involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development and destruction of
Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of the Iron Age. These
characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the ancient Near East time to
present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world.
In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated
locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special,
singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). He also
states that spaces are always interrelated with nature and with culture, and they are shaped by political
processes, social relations and economic forces. Furthermore, defining religions as confluence of
organic cultural flows about dwelling and crossing, about finding a place and moving across

Great Awakening Dbq
The Great Awakening was an intensely religious movement that spread rapidly throughout the
colonies in the mid 1700s. This explosive and fiery movement eventually led to the Separation of
Church and State in America. By undermining the prestige and honor of the older clergy members and
the mouthpiece of royalty, the Great Awakening gave authority for members of society to challenge
their authority. The Great Awakening made people question their religions beliefs, leading to the
creation of multiple different denominations, creating competition between churches and eventual
separation. In addition, the Great Awakening led to the founding of new lights centers, which sparked
revolutionary movements. The Great Awakening served as the first ... Show more content on

The large religious movement made people question their original faith, values, and ideals. The
movement led to more liberal thinkers as opposed to conservative. The movement gave colonists the
ability and confidence to challenge the older clergy members, sparking the religious and governmental
rebellion of the Separation of Church and State. Due to the new thoughts and ideas, multiple different
churches and denominations were created. These served as competition for the established church,
taking power away from it. As the established churches lost power, it left room for the new thinkers to
challenge their ideas. The Great Awakening led to the founding of new light centers, which
encouraged people to meet together and challenge conservative beliefs. Finally, the Great Awakening
served as the first movement of its kind and size in American history. The movement united men
across the colonies, creating a sense of togetherness and power. By undermining conservative leaders
and ideals along with by giving power and unity to liberal colonists, the Great Awakening set the stage

The Edict Of Hamurabi And The Code Of The Salian Franks
Civilization has continued to exist and grow because of the many institutions that exist within most
individual cultures, such as art, religion, ethics, etc. I believe that the most important factor in the
development of civilization and the biggest aid to the success of past societies is law. Law exists in
every society that we have seen throughout this semester, whether it be from the earliest examples of
written law like in The Code of Hamurabi, or in the most recent example we have seen in The Code of
the Salian Franks. I will seek to analyze the examples of important laws that we have seen throughout
developing society, and how they were integral to the growth of the civilization they were created in,
including: The Code of Hamurabi, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enacted in 313 A. D. by Constantine Augustus, this law was made and established to prevent the
persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire, and was a huge step forwards for society for a number
of reasons. Firstly, the law was a very early example of tolerance and acceptance of religious
practices. This law was put in place to bring peace, but more so than just peace it helped set a
precedent for future civil issues and how they could be solved. among other things which we saw
would be for the good of many, those regulations pertaining to the reverence of the Divinity ought
certainly to be made first, so that we might grant to the Christians and others full authority to observe
that religion which each preferred; whence any Divinity whatsoever in the seat of the heavens may be
propitious and kindly disposed to us and all who are placed under our rule (Edict of Milan, Page 1)
The second, and arguably most important advancement this law promoted was a turning point for the
development of civilization through the vast growth of Christians following the edict. While the
Roman Empire had once been a Polytheistic worshipping society, once Christians were granted the
right to free worship, we see a very large shift in the number of Christians compared to other forms of
religion within the empire. However, not only were Christians the majority in Rome, they quickly
became the dominating religion in the world, and because they became the biggest and most
influential religion in the world, their choices in early history are ingrained in our own society today.
We typically measure time in history by suffixing years with either BC or AD, which stand for Before
Christ and anno domini ; The latter being Latin for The year of our Lord . So through this law, we see
civilization not only getting its first taste of civil liberties, but also inadvertently affecting the way in
which we

Tourette Syndrome Research Papers
Tourette syndrome is a disorder that affects people worldwide, no matter what age, ethnic group, or
race. It is a disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive motor or vocal actions called tics.
Though not much is known about how TS is passed on, how it can be prevented, or the causes, there is
still research being conducted on how TS can be treated and about TS itself.
Not much is known about how TS is passed on over generations or the causes. Yet that does not stop
scientists from forming guesses. Scientists once believed that it was an autosomal dominant disorder.
Though this has been dismissed as false, there are other ideas of where this disorder comes from. One
hypothesis says that TS comes from a mutation on the SLITRK1 gene because this has been found in
few people with TS. But this is not proven to be the sole cause of TS. That of which is not known.
Tourette syndrome is known for the tics that come with it. If a person has tics, that does ... Show more

Medicine such as Neuroleptics, Risperidone, and Fluphenazine have all shown progress in lessening
the occurrence of tics. Therapy has also shown promising results in those diagnosed with TS.
Therapies such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Comprehensive behavioral Intervention for Tics
(CBIT) have both shown great progress in decreasing the occurrence and complexity of the tics.
The outlook for Tourette s syndrome is hopeful. High quality research is being conducted by medical
professionals and support groups such as Tourette s Association of America. This is a group that
teaches people about Tourette s and provides support for those diagnosed and their family members. It
provides information on Tourette s syndrome and shows the complications that those with the disorder
and their family members have to go through. Tourette s syndrome is a complex disorder that affects

Capitalism Vs Religion
Exam #3
Capitalism thrives in the United States in a manner different than anywhere else in the world. As time
passed, it became apparent that spending and creating secured the power it currently possesses. While
this country appears to be secular in the way it is regulated, it in actuality owes its economic success
to religion. Reality is, the notion of capitalism and the American work ethic is owed to Protestants,
despite the secular worldview Americans have held in more recent times. Weber argues that the
Protestant work ethic provided a foundation for the success of capitalism in the secular sphere of
collective society. The calling derived such practicality in terms of economics through its
individualistic approach to eternal salvation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Worshippers of the faith were now more inclined to save and invest wisely in all their economic
endeavors. Because of the practicality implemented in their faith, the Protestants became committed to
practicing smarter tactics to obtain a place in Heaven. The role that these ideas played in the formation
of their economic success, was integral to not only their success, but the rise of capitalism in the
United States. The ideas that were derived from this faith soon became the spirit of capitalism. This
spirit was easily applicable to capitalism, and the practices and methods the Protestants developed
soon became more commonplace within collective society. The ascetic practices that were being
implemented in the United States were now integral to credit and value, which is a core belief of
Protestantism. However, despite the success that the United States now possessed due to the rise of
capitalism in their society, they reached a level of idleness in their spirit. By complying to economic
modesty, the average American worker was now trapped in an iron cage . This iron cage refers to the
over rationalization of the United States with their money. By becoming conscious of their actions and
aware of the result that followed, the workers spirit died a little. The calling soon enough became an
illusion that existed long ago in a different society, but is now

Critical Appreciation Of Alfred Prufrock
Alfred Prufrock was a depressed old man that questioned things with such a creative mind that make
people stop and really question it themselves. The vibe that Alfred expresses while speaking draws the
listener in with an almost unnerving sadness. They way the Alfred speaks can move the reader as they
do not know whom he is speaking to. Of course, much more thought has to be put into his words
because the answer to how he feels is not given and you have to really look for it. He seems to look at
the glass as if it is half empty. These are just a couple of suggestions that Mr. Alfred J. Prufrock needs
to hear so that his opinions on life can be turned around. It is shown in this poem that Alfred J.
Prufrock is very depressed and almost feels as if though he doesn t have much meaning in life. Many
people can go through this in life, infact people at a young age feel like they have accomplished
nothing when they begin to compare themselves to their friends. However, Mr . Prufrock you must
have accomplished something within your youth. Regardless if it was a large or small
accomplishments, in the long run they will all equal out the same. Either people will know who you
are or not there is not an in between. So when you say Do I dare disturb the universe of course you
should! Everyone does, just because you may have only created a small ripple or a huge wave in the
universe, you still have contributed. As you are now older and you look back on life it is best to view

Catch 22 Literary Analysis
War tears away not only our mortal bodies but also strips away and desecrates the structure of our very
minds. Author Joseph Heller tries to define this through his wartime novel Catch 22 where he tells the
story of a World War II bomber named Yossarian, who faces internal struggle through his personal
experiences of war. This unique vantage point of an ordinary combatant who directly changes and
adapts through the events of the war allows the author to create and convey his own thoughts on the
fragile psyche of the men. In the novel Catch 22, Joseph Heller attempts to illustrate his thoughts on
the complete meaningless nature of war through paradoxical and cyclical encounters and certain
events and interactions between characters that help to answer the essential question of war s true
effects on the mental state of soldiers on the front.
Heller employs the powerful Catch 22 to persuade the reader on the meaninglessness of war through
purely absurd situations that clearly define the stupidity within the higher powers of government and
the conflict itself. Heller defines this immense level of idiocy through the ridiculousness in the rules
and regulations governing figures create to control the men in their command. Such an abnormality
occurs under the rule of Colonel Korn who set a rule during the education sessions that the only
people who were permitted to ask question where those that never did. Soon the only people attending
were those that never asked questions and the

System Of Education Vs American Education
Lifestyles differ throughout generations. It is because of several factors related to people s behaviors,
historical events, social environment, and scientific and technical progress. My upbringing and
schooling experience has some new features different from what had my grandparents in their youth.
Therefore, the American System of Education today and before still focuses on the religious education
and socialization of students through multiple activities. First, my life is similar to the elder s life in
terms of the religious influence throughout the years of education. Municipal authorities built public
schools with the extension to the church, and students went to the church every day. My grandparents
prayed every day before the start of the classes. It is the same experience as I had at school. Moreover,
I entered the Catholic University of America. American education encourages new generations to
share the same Christian values of obedience, discipline, and patience. It has become another

First, American education is the framework for getting knowledge. It is a system of studies for the
public. Then, the question is: Why should new generations refer to the lifestyles and schooling
experiences of elder generations? This question is rhetorical. However, I think each generation adds to
the improvement of the American System of Education making it more appropriate and multifaceted
in methods and approaches. Therefore, one has to understand the American education in combination
with practical advantages and disadvantages. Another question refers to my upbringing and schooling
background and whether it is the same for other students. Not everyone has a motivation to study
thoroughly and to obey parents. It refers to the social and economic factors splitting the society into
different layers and spreading

Melody Of Love Analysis
The theme I chose is love, and I chose the early 1900s as a time period to focus on. I believe that this
is a topic worth exploring in humanities because everybody can relate to it, and people tend to create
impactful art, music, etc., in the name of love. Love can have a huge impact and play an essential and
influential role in a person s life. The reason why I chose this specific time period is because I believe
that it was a great time of romanticism. It was the beginning of a time where people took different
approaches to showcase their thoughts and feelings, especially through art and music. The time period
was also more modern, so many of the works involving love are relatable to people today. Melody of
Love Composed by Hans Engelmann
Hans Engelmann lived from 1872 to 1914. He was a German composer who traveled to Pennsylvania
to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional pianist, as he was dissatisfied with his life working in
a mercantile office. Not much is remembered about him today, but his music was very popular and
appreciated during his time. Other songs composed by him include Poppy Buds, Heart s Melody,
Spanish Serenade, and many others. Our focus, Melody of Love, was composed in 1903 and was
meant to be played on the piano. The cultural context of the song greatly reflects Engelmann s German
upbringing, where it is customary for young boys to go through musical training at the time. The song
was very popular at the time, and

Types And Methods Of Tests That Are Being Used During...
Biodata Test There are many forms and methods of tests that are being used during selection process.
Biodata test is a type of exam that is used in selection process which uses background experience and
behaviors to predict applicant s performance on certain jobs. The biodata test I took was designed to
predict performance on a position in sales and customer services. The test predicts dependability,
positive customer service attitudes, retention, management potential, and performance of an applicant.
Based on score an applicant receive, the test gives recommendation to hiring management whether an
applicant is good fit for the position or not. Since I took the test after our discussion during class, I
probably had better glimpse of what it would like than other people who took before the class.
However, I was not sure what to look for in terms of questions and answers. I have heard about
various testing methods and types that companies use for selection, and I imagined one more similar
to academic test that measures intelligence. Yet, this test was different and some questions looked very
inappropriate or illegal in some sense. The test begun with asking basic information about me such as

Malicious code is Software or firmware intended to perform an unauthorized process that will have an
adverse impact on the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of an information system. 1 Today, as
ubiquitous computing is fast becoming a reality and information systems are becoming a part of
everything from mobile phones to cars, any threat to an information system represents a risk to

So they built a large horse and presented it to the Trojans as a gift, which the Trojans accepted. Hidden
inside the gigantic horse was a small army of Greek soldiers. During the night, the soldiers
dismounted and quickly gained control of key defenses, allowing the rest of the Greek army to invade
the previously invulnerable city of Troy. Just as in the myth, Trojan horse programs allow
unauthorized users access to a computer system. While viruses and worms usually carry a payload,
Trojan horses usually do not. Payloads are the part of the malicious code that modify, erase, or leak
information from a system. They may also alter the state of a system, by displaying a simple undesired
screen or causing programs to crash or behave abnormally. The lifecycle of viruses and worms is to
infect as many systems or files as possible, and then to execute its payload at a predetermined trigger.
The trigger may be a time or system event. Trojans, on the other hand, allow unauthorized,
anonymous access to information systems. Another type of threat that is becoming increasingly
popular is malicious code hybrids. Hybrids use a combination of virus, worm, and Trojan techniques;
virus techniques for self replication, worm techniques for rapid propagation over the Internet, and
Trojan techniques for remote system compromise. Today, hybrids represent a growing threat because
of their increasing sophistication and multiple propagation

Identification is the first of the four steps in this process. Any user that expects to gain access to a
system referred to as a supplicant, and the tool that every user who gains entry to the network, referred
to as an Identifier. The identifier can have numerous different methods for identifying the supplicant.
The identifier should be able to locate the users credentials from a database of unique information that
determines the supplicants identity. The most common form of verification is through using the
employees first and last name. In case there happen to be colleagues with common names, such as
John Doe, employee Id s or Social Security numbers remain utilized. In a good number of companies,
they are no longer using the employee s Social Security number to identify them in their system. They
are replacing them with an employee ID. This reduces the information that a network intruder (also
known as a hacker) or another employee gaining access to their Social Security numbers.
Authentication is the second step in this process. Once identification of the employee is established,
there will be a request for input from that user. That will either corroborate to the system that he or she
is who they claim to be or that they are not who they claim to be.
The complexity of the authentication process depends on the type of information that needs

The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars
Capstone Introduction Paragraph
The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and cell
phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many years. But
they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations
they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars
were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the
pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more
electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations
which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric
car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric
cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have
to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly
charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from
when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and
many more. Plus using electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will
become extinct. Electric cars will continue to

companionship. Starting at birth, it is vital for bonds that enforce these needs are made. One way for
this type of connecting to be made is through attachment. Attachment theory is defined by oxford
dictionaries as a theory that emphasizes the bond formed by an infant toward its mother (or other
principal caregiver) and its pre eminent influence on behavior in adolescent and adult relationships.
(Oxford) This theory developed from a British psychologist by the name of John Bowlby between the
1950s and 1960s. From day one, babies are pretty much helpless. Due to this, they need a lot of
support, and forming a strong emotional bond with another individual will aid in their feelings of
stability, love and support; which will ultimately increase their chances of future success and survival.
A psychologist by the name of Mary Ainsworth conducted a study named Strange Situation where she
talks about three types of styles of attachment. These styles include secure attachment, ambivalent
insecure attachment, and avoidant insecure attachment. Mary Ainsworth is mainly known for her
extended research on the work of John Bowlby and Attachment Theory. Ainsworth created a
procedure called Strange Situation in order to observe and asses the condition of attachment in
relationships with caregivers and children. In this study, the child involved is observed for twenty
minutes as they play in a room

Raising The Driving Age
The driving age should resume to stay at 16, because high school is the time you need to start learning
how to be independent as a young adult. This teaches the young adults at an early age, really big
responsibilities that they will need to learn also in the long run. There will be times that you won t
have anyone to drive you to a certain place that you need to be based on circumstances. By the time
you are 18, you are considered an adult by then. If you are just learning to drive, how are you suppose
to be comfortable going places without being afraid to be in an accident or cause an accident, because
you never drove before? Raising the driving age won t save lives. It s inexperience, not age, that
causes accidents. Raising the driving

The Relationship Between Violent Crime And The Following...
Literature Review
Introduction
This is a non exhaustive literature review of research published between 2006 and 2016. It relies
primarily on peer reviewed literature published within the discipline of sociology, but also draws upon
studies related in other disciplines such as criminology and psychology. The studies in this literature
review focus on violent crime in the U.S. Many studies in this review discuss how some sociological
variables can influence crime for better or for worse. This literature review will discuss the
relationship between violent crime and the following five themes: race, religion, gender, income, and
immigration.
Race
Violent crime has consistently been a significant issue throughout U.S. history, especially between
racial and ethnic groups. As a country, we ve had to deal with violent crime dating back to slavery in
the 1600 s, up unto today with issues such as police brutality against racial and ethnic minorities.
Researchers have found that segregation between races within neighborhoods can have a heavy
influence on violent crime (Hipp 2007; Krivo, Byron, Calder, Peterson, Browning, Kwon, Lee 2014),
although not all literature had the same results. Three races that were used throughout the research
were Blacks, Whites, and Latinos. Within racially segregated neighborhoods, those with a higher
percentage of African Americans experience higher rates of violent crime (Hipp 2007). The same
thing can also be said about Latinos. Among racially

Child Trafficking China Essay
Child Trafficking
The loss of a child or not being able to keep one is one of the worst and hardest things a person can go
through. The one child policy in China is leading to more orphans being put through the unorganized
adoption process and it results in children being sent into child trafficking. In China the rate of
children being put through adoption has increased. The increase of orphans being put into adoption is
directly related to the one child policy that was placed in China. This policy prevents families from
having more than one child because of the high population rate. With the influx of children going in
and out of the adoption agencies it affects the authenticity of the process and is leading to children
being out in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the one child law has been in place it has raised the number of orphans going in and out of the
orphanages. With the higher number of children it leads to them being not watched as carefully and
put in the hands of the wrong people. Some of the people that adopt children will them sell them to
make a profit off their organs. Many organs are used but the kidneys make up 75% of the global illicit
trade in organs (Denis and Davison). The kidneys are being sold because of the rising rates of
diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems (Denis and Davison) that are occurring more
commonly in people. With the demand for organs so high currently, the adoption rate is going to
increase to try and sell children for their organs. Especially with the birth rate still increasing, the
Chinese are still having kids and sending the girls to orphanages more often than boys. The one child
policy is affecting the organ trade because families are still having kids when they are not suppose to
and it is leaving children without families in orphanages. The children without the families are then
placed in danger of getting adopted by people that are selling them for their organs. Since some
kidneys can be sold for up to $200,000 (Denis and Davison) the demand for the organ is increasing
every day. The more organs that are sold the more

The Influences of Nature In Hinduism
In every civilization there is a main a religion and an influence of that religion. In India the main
religion is Hinduism and Hinduism is influenced by the nature around the country. Christopher G.
Framarin proposed his theory on how nature influences India in his journal, The value of nature in
India (Hindu) traditions. Framarin explains his ideas on how to achieve moksa and what animals have
effect on the moksa cycle. He also places other philosophers ideas into his journal and thoroughly
explains the ideas in detail and how he feels about them. The traditions of Hindusim that are
influenced by nature has an effect on everything they believe in. Ahimsa is doing good deeds or non
harm to anything in this world. Through ahimsa Hindu people can achieve moska. However, there are
more rules than just being nice to work through the caste system in Hinduism. Even though ahimsa is
non harmful there are many strict ideas on what exactly is harmful. Himsa can postpone moska, himsa
is the deed of doing harm or injury to another being. In the caste system the way someone can rise up
the top and become a divine is for him or her to perform ahimsa deeds and through each reincarnation
to step up in the caste. The Hindu s use a form of measurement when figuring out if the move up or
down in the system. Every ahima deed someone does it produces a merit and for every himsa deed it
produces a demerit. If so many merits are achieved moksa will be complete, however if a demerit is

Glucocorticoids Research Paper
Glucocorticoids are well known for their analgesic, anti inflammatory, immune modulating, and
antiemetic effects.
A. Anti Inflammatory and Immunosuppressive Effects
Glucocorticoids dramatically reduce the manifestations of inflammation. This is due to their profound
effects on the concentration, distribution, and function of peripheral leukocytes and to their
suppressive effects on the inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and on other mediators of
inflammation. Inflammation, regardless of its cause, is characterized by the extravasation and
infiltration of leukocytes into the affected tissue. These events are mediated by a complex series of
interactions of white cell adhesion molecules with those on endothelial cells and are inhibited by
glucocorticoids. After a single dose of a glucocorticoid, the concentration of neutrophils in the
circulation increases while the lymphocytes (T and B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils
decrease. The changes are maximal at 6 hours and are dissipated in 24 hours. The increase in
neutrophils is due both to the increased influx into the blood from the bone marrow and to the

In practice, dexamethasone is less widely used for control of PONV by anesthetists in gastrointestinal
patients, perhaps because of a lack of proven efficacy in these patients. However, its use is advocated
in some enhanced recovery programs (ERAS) to improve recovery after colorectal surgery. Its precise
mechanism of action is unknown but it has been proposed that the antiemetic properties arise due to
activation of glucocorticoid receptors in the medulla, or by inhibiting central production of
prostaglandins or inhibiting the release of endogenous opioids. It is also known to improve appetite,
and in combination with reduced nausea and vomiting, aids early recovery. Glucocorticoids can also

Without connection to others there is no me
Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either
forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find
ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood to
adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with
something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear
understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with
others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ...

to be extremely successful in life, having been selected to act in a number of films including the

found when our decisions and actions are truly our own; when we stand alone and free of connections,
without social influence.
Considering a different perspective, it can be argued that both sides of the argument are true to a
certain extent, in that we are able to possess a sense of existence whilst devoid of most connections,
but there are some affiliations such as the bonds we share with our family that we cannot live without.
A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with others shape who we are.
These connections ideally provide love, protection, security and the opportunity to discover our
values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to define us from the time of our birth. In The Member of the

Identify and evaluate the key factors which influence the effectiveness and strength of a mentoring
relationship. |
This essay will start by defining mentoring, and giving a brief understanding of mentoring. This essay
will then go on to identify and evaluate a number of key factors that may influence the effectiveness of
a mentoring relationship. This essay will focus on the example of mentoring within schools and a
learning mentor to be more specific.
Firstly this essay will look at the difference between coaching and mentoring. Both coaching and
mentoring are processes that allow both individual and schools to achieve their full potential.

A Learning Mentor is a relatively new concept in the field of education and is used within schools to
support them in raising standards.
Specifically Learning mentors are placed in schools to raise pupils attainment, improve attendance and
to reduce permanent and fixed term exclusions. Many schools have successfully implemented the
Learning Mentor programme and assessed that the impact is evident on individuals and groups of
pupils (George, 2010)
Learning mentors tend to work on a one to one level or in small numbered groups, a learning mentor
must be a good listener, be able to encourage and motivate and act as a role model and encourage the
build up of a mutually respectful relationship (Hayward, 2001).
According to Hayward (2001), Learning Mentors have had an incredible impact on individual pupils
lives, in some cases transforming low achieving and unfocused students with minimal self esteem and
a lack of commitment into more confident pupils with higher grades, improved motivation and a sense
of direction. What all Learning Mentors have in common is their aim to break down barriers to
learning , unlocking education opportunities for school students and releasing hitherto untapped

How Does Monkey King Change Throughout The Novel
Monkey King is a most well known Chinese fictional character existing in the novel Journey to the
West written by Wu Cheng en. The novel is an extended account of the legendary pilgrimage of the
Tang dynasty Buddhist monk Xuanzang who traveled with three disciples to Central Asia and India to
obtain Buddhist sacred texts and returned after many trials and much suffering. Monkey King is one
of the three disciples who not only has vivid and human like personalities but also has magical
powers. I feel a strong relatability between the fictional character and me.
First, he is born from a rock indicating his difficult life with a harsh start and plenty of struggles that
follows. Other monkeys are indifferent to him due to his unusual birth and try to isolate him. Then,
one day Monkey King finds a new cave behind a waterfall which is cool in the summer and warm in

Racial Profiling And Native Americans
Racial Profiling and Native Americans
Keith A. Kuhn
Criminology 410 005
9 October 2014
Introduction
When you hear the words police racial profiling your mind may automatically jump to images of
white cops stopping young black men in expensive cars, the Rodney King beatings, or even the Rev.
Al Sharpton giving a deposition about racial tensions. This is because those images are the hot button,
go to stories that media often bombards the six o clock news with. As Americans, we have seen so
much of these images that we tend to think that the racial divide is only black and white. However,
what if you were to be told that racial profiling is more than just white on black? There is a group of
Americans who face more racial discrimination than African Americans: Native Americans. Native
Americans are under represented as victims and over persecuted as offenders. This paper will attempt
to define the issue of racial profiling and how it affects Native Americans, provide a review of the
current research being done, and provide a brief interview that shows how this subject is viewed in
real world scenarios.
Definition
Racial discrimination is defined by Law.com as unequal treatment of persons, for a reason which has
nothing to do with legal rights or ability. Federal and state laws prohibit discrimination in many facets
of society. However, racial profiling by law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that
targets people for suspicion of crime based

U2 V. Negativland Summary
I think that the court s ruling should be overturned because I don t believe that Negativland violated

In the article entitled U2 Negativland the case from our side Negativland believes their work does not

I agree because the artist named Weird Al Yankovic. He uses the instrumentals for a popular songs and
changes the lyrics to make fun of it. Yankovic has never been sued for his work because they are
parodies. Since Negativland made a parody of U2 s I still haven t found what I m looking for , they
should not be sued.
Negativland released their album with a huge title saying U2 and Negativland in a smaller font with an
image of the WW2 U 2 spy plane on it. U2 s label, Island Records, sued Negativland claiming that

Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War
Since the invention of nuclear weapons, they have presented the world with a significant danger, one
that was shown in reality during the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, nuclear weapons
have not only served in combat, but they have also played a role in keeping the world peaceful by the
concept of deterrence. The usage of nuclear weapons would lead to mutual destruction and during the
Cold War, nuclear weapons were necessary to maintain international security, as a means of
deterrence. However, by the end of the Cold War, reliance on nuclear weapons for maintaining peace
became increasingly difficult and less effective (Shultz, et. al, 2007). The development of technology

Korea, in regard to the development of their armory of nuclear weapons.
Since the end of the Cold War, the cases of nuclear proliferation in Iran and North Korea have
gathered enormous international attention. Iran s nuclear program appeared as a result of the Cold War
alliance between the United States and the late Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In 2003, Iran
was suspected of developing a military nuclear capability and is now developing medium and
intermediate ballistic missiles, which are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. On the other hand,
North Korea set off a nuclear device and declared suspicions about a military nuclear program in
2006. Iran and North Korea have recently started cooperation to develop multi stage ballistic missiles
and have conducted several missile flight tests over the last few years (Schmid, 2008).
With sources dating back to the late 1960s, North Korea s nuclear weapons program has expanded to
be a useful instrument of the government s security. Its principal motivations for developing the
nuclear weapons are as follows: to block foreign pressure, create an international impact and preserve
the terms and conditions of the DPRK (ruling party of North Korea). In contrast, Iran s motivations to
develop strategic weapons appear to be more complex than that of North Korea. Iran s efforts to

  • 2. The One Child Policy And Gender Bias Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in the Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that Jerusalem was chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special, singular space; the description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to economic power and involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development and destruction of Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of the Iron Age. These characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the ancient Near East time to present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world. In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special, singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). He also states that spaces are always interrelated with nature and with culture, and they are shaped by political processes, social relations and economic forces. Furthermore, defining religions as confluence of organic cultural flows about dwelling and crossing, about finding a place and moving across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Great Awakening Dbq The Great Awakening was an intensely religious movement that spread rapidly throughout the colonies in the mid 1700s. This explosive and fiery movement eventually led to the Separation of Church and State in America. By undermining the prestige and honor of the older clergy members and the mouthpiece of royalty, the Great Awakening gave authority for members of society to challenge their authority. The Great Awakening made people question their religions beliefs, leading to the creation of multiple different denominations, creating competition between churches and eventual separation. In addition, the Great Awakening led to the founding of new lights centers, which sparked revolutionary movements. The Great Awakening served as the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The large religious movement made people question their original faith, values, and ideals. The movement led to more liberal thinkers as opposed to conservative. The movement gave colonists the ability and confidence to challenge the older clergy members, sparking the religious and governmental rebellion of the Separation of Church and State. Due to the new thoughts and ideas, multiple different churches and denominations were created. These served as competition for the established church, taking power away from it. As the established churches lost power, it left room for the new thinkers to challenge their ideas. The Great Awakening led to the founding of new light centers, which encouraged people to meet together and challenge conservative beliefs. Finally, the Great Awakening served as the first movement of its kind and size in American history. The movement united men across the colonies, creating a sense of togetherness and power. By undermining conservative leaders and ideals along with by giving power and unity to liberal colonists, the Great Awakening set the stage for the Separation of Church and State in ... • 5. The Edict Of Hamurabi And The Code Of The Salian Franks Civilization has continued to exist and grow because of the many institutions that exist within most individual cultures, such as art, religion, ethics, etc. I believe that the most important factor in the development of civilization and the biggest aid to the success of past societies is law. Law exists in every society that we have seen throughout this semester, whether it be from the earliest examples of written law like in The Code of Hamurabi, or in the most recent example we have seen in The Code of the Salian Franks. I will seek to analyze the examples of important laws that we have seen throughout developing society, and how they were integral to the growth of the civilization they were created in, including: The Code of Hamurabi, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Enacted in 313 A. D. by Constantine Augustus, this law was made and established to prevent the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire, and was a huge step forwards for society for a number of reasons. Firstly, the law was a very early example of tolerance and acceptance of religious practices. This law was put in place to bring peace, but more so than just peace it helped set a precedent for future civil issues and how they could be solved. among other things which we saw would be for the good of many, those regulations pertaining to the reverence of the Divinity ought certainly to be made first, so that we might grant to the Christians and others full authority to observe that religion which each preferred; whence any Divinity whatsoever in the seat of the heavens may be propitious and kindly disposed to us and all who are placed under our rule (Edict of Milan, Page 1) The second, and arguably most important advancement this law promoted was a turning point for the development of civilization through the vast growth of Christians following the edict. While the Roman Empire had once been a Polytheistic worshipping society, once Christians were granted the right to free worship, we see a very large shift in the number of Christians compared to other forms of religion within the empire. However, not only were Christians the majority in Rome, they quickly became the dominating religion in the world, and because they became the biggest and most influential religion in the world, their choices in early history are ingrained in our own society today. We typically measure time in history by suffixing years with either BC or AD, which stand for Before Christ and anno domini ; The latter being Latin for The year of our Lord . So through this law, we see civilization not only getting its first taste of civil liberties, but also inadvertently affecting the way in which we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tourette Syndrome Research Papers Tourette syndrome is a disorder that affects people worldwide, no matter what age, ethnic group, or race. It is a disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive motor or vocal actions called tics. Though not much is known about how TS is passed on, how it can be prevented, or the causes, there is still research being conducted on how TS can be treated and about TS itself. Not much is known about how TS is passed on over generations or the causes. Yet that does not stop scientists from forming guesses. Scientists once believed that it was an autosomal dominant disorder. Though this has been dismissed as false, there are other ideas of where this disorder comes from. One hypothesis says that TS comes from a mutation on the SLITRK1 gene because this has been found in few people with TS. But this is not proven to be the sole cause of TS. That of which is not known. Tourette syndrome is known for the tics that come with it. If a person has tics, that does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medicine such as Neuroleptics, Risperidone, and Fluphenazine have all shown progress in lessening the occurrence of tics. Therapy has also shown promising results in those diagnosed with TS. Therapies such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Comprehensive behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) have both shown great progress in decreasing the occurrence and complexity of the tics. The outlook for Tourette s syndrome is hopeful. High quality research is being conducted by medical professionals and support groups such as Tourette s Association of America. This is a group that teaches people about Tourette s and provides support for those diagnosed and their family members. • 7. Capitalism Vs Religion Exam #3 Capitalism thrives in the United States in a manner different than anywhere else in the world. As time passed, it became apparent that spending and creating secured the power it currently possesses. While this country appears to be secular in the way it is regulated, it in actuality owes its economic success to religion. Reality is, the notion of capitalism and the American work ethic is owed to Protestants, despite the secular worldview Americans have held in more recent times. Weber argues that the Protestant work ethic provided a foundation for the success of capitalism in the secular sphere of collective society. The calling derived such practicality in terms of economics through its individualistic approach to eternal salvation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Worshippers of the faith were now more inclined to save and invest wisely in all their economic endeavors. Because of the practicality implemented in their faith, the Protestants became committed to practicing smarter tactics to obtain a place in Heaven. The role that these ideas played in the formation of their economic success, was integral to not only their success, but the rise of capitalism in the United States. The ideas that were derived from this faith soon became the spirit of capitalism. This spirit was easily applicable to capitalism, and the practices and methods the Protestants developed soon became more commonplace within collective society. The ascetic practices that were being implemented in the United States were now integral to credit and value, which is a core belief of Protestantism. However, despite the success that the United States now possessed due to the rise of capitalism in their society, they reached a level of idleness in their spirit. By complying to economic modesty, the average American worker was now trapped in an iron cage . This iron cage refers to the over rationalization of the United States with their money. By becoming conscious of their actions and aware of the result that followed, the workers spirit died a little. The calling soon enough became an illusion that existed long ago in a different society, but is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Critical Appreciation Of Alfred Prufrock Alfred Prufrock was a depressed old man that questioned things with such a creative mind that make people stop and really question it themselves. The vibe that Alfred expresses while speaking draws the listener in with an almost unnerving sadness. They way the Alfred speaks can move the reader as they do not know whom he is speaking to. Of course, much more thought has to be put into his words because the answer to how he feels is not given and you have to really look for it. He seems to look at the glass as if it is half empty. These are just a couple of suggestions that Mr. Alfred J. Prufrock needs to hear so that his opinions on life can be turned around. It is shown in this poem that Alfred J. Prufrock is very depressed and almost feels as if though he doesn t have much meaning in life. Many people can go through this in life, infact people at a young age feel like they have accomplished nothing when they begin to compare themselves to their friends. However, Mr . Prufrock you must have accomplished something within your youth. Regardless if it was a large or small accomplishments, in the long run they will all equal out the same. Either people will know who you are or not there is not an in between. So when you say Do I dare disturb the universe of course you should! • 9. Catch 22 Literary Analysis War tears away not only our mortal bodies but also strips away and desecrates the structure of our very minds. Author Joseph Heller tries to define this through his wartime novel Catch 22 where he tells the story of a World War II bomber named Yossarian, who faces internal struggle through his personal experiences of war. This unique vantage point of an ordinary combatant who directly changes and adapts through the events of the war allows the author to create and convey his own thoughts on the fragile psyche of the men. In the novel Catch 22, Joseph Heller attempts to illustrate his thoughts on the complete meaningless nature of war through paradoxical and cyclical encounters and certain events and interactions between characters that help to answer the essential question of war s true effects on the mental state of soldiers on the front. Heller employs the powerful Catch 22 to persuade the reader on the meaninglessness of war through purely absurd situations that clearly define the stupidity within the higher powers of government and the conflict itself. Heller defines this immense level of idiocy through the ridiculousness in the rules and regulations governing figures create to control the men in their command. Such an abnormality occurs under the rule of Colonel Korn who set a rule during the education sessions that the only people who were permitted to ask question where those that never did. • 12. System Of Education Vs American Education Lifestyles differ throughout generations. It is because of several factors related to people s behaviors, historical events, social environment, and scientific and technical progress. My upbringing and schooling experience has some new features different from what had my grandparents in their youth. Therefore, the American System of Education today and before still focuses on the religious education and socialization of students through multiple activities. First, my life is similar to the elder s life in terms of the religious influence throughout the years of education. Municipal authorities built public schools with the extension to the church, and students went to the church every day. My grandparents prayed every day before the start of the classes. It is the same experience as I had at school. Moreover, I entered the Catholic University of America. Therefore, one has to understand the American education in combination with practical advantages and disadvantages. • 15. Melody Of Love Analysis The theme I chose is love, and I chose the early 1900s as a time period to focus on. I believe that this is a topic worth exploring in humanities because everybody can relate to it, and people tend to create impactful art, music, etc., in the name of love. Love can have a huge impact and play an essential and influential role in a person s life. The reason why I chose this specific time period is because I believe that it was a great time of romanticism. It was the beginning of a time where people took different approaches to showcase their thoughts and feelings, especially through art and music. The time period was also more modern, so many of the works involving love are relatable to people today. Melody of Love Composed by Hans Engelmann Hans Engelmann lived from 1872 to 1914. He was a German composer who traveled to Pennsylvania to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional pianist, as he was dissatisfied with his life working in a mercantile office. Not much is remembered about him today, but his music was very popular and appreciated during his time. Other songs composed by him include Poppy Buds, Heart s Melody, Spanish Serenade, and many others. Our focus, Melody of Love, was composed in 1903 and was meant to be played on the piano. The cultural context of the song greatly reflects Engelmann s German upbringing, where it is customary for young boys to go through musical training at the time. Biodata test is a type of exam that is used in selection process which uses background experience and behaviors to predict applicant s performance on certain jobs. The biodata test I took was designed to predict performance on a position in sales and customer services. The test predicts dependability, positive customer service attitudes, retention, management potential, and performance of an applicant. Based on score an applicant receive, the test gives recommendation to hiring management whether an applicant is good fit for the position or not. Since I took the test after our discussion during class, I probably had better glimpse of what it would like than other people who took before the class. I have heard about various testing methods and types that companies use for selection, and I imagined one more similar to academic test that measures intelligence. Yet, this test was different and some questions looked very inappropriate or illegal in some sense. The test begun with asking basic information about me such as name and address. Just as in the myth, Trojan horse programs allow unauthorized users access to a computer system. While viruses and worms usually carry a payload, Trojan horses usually do not. Payloads are the part of the malicious code that modify, erase, or leak information from a system. They may also alter the state of a system, by displaying a simple undesired screen or causing programs to crash or behave abnormally. The lifecycle of viruses and worms is to infect as many systems or files as possible, and then to execute its payload at a predetermined trigger. The trigger may be a time or system event. Trojans, on the other hand, allow unauthorized, anonymous access to information systems. Another type of threat that is becoming increasingly popular is malicious code hybrids. Electric cars have been around for many years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Starting at birth, it is vital for bonds that enforce these needs are made. One way for this type of connecting to be made is through attachment. Attachment theory is defined by oxford dictionaries as a theory that emphasizes the bond formed by an infant toward its mother (or other principal caregiver) and its pre eminent influence on behavior in adolescent and adult relationships. (Oxford) This theory developed from a British psychologist by the name of John Bowlby between the 1950s and 1960s. From day one, babies are pretty much helpless. Due to this, they need a lot of support, and forming a strong emotional bond with another individual will aid in their feelings of stability, love and support; which will ultimately increase their chances of future success and survival. A psychologist by the name of Mary Ainsworth conducted a study named Strange Situation where she talks about three types of styles of attachment. These styles include secure attachment, ambivalent insecure attachment, and avoidant insecure attachment. Mary Ainsworth is mainly known for her extended research on the work of John Bowlby and Attachment Theory. It relies primarily on peer reviewed literature published within the discipline of sociology, but also draws upon studies related in other disciplines such as criminology and psychology. The studies in this literature review focus on violent crime in the U.S. Many studies in this review discuss how some sociological variables can influence crime for better or for worse. This literature review will discuss the relationship between violent crime and the following five themes: race, religion, gender, income, and immigration. Race Violent crime has consistently been a significant issue throughout U.S. history, especially between racial and ethnic groups. As a country, we ve had to deal with violent crime dating back to slavery in the 1600 s, up unto today with issues such as police brutality against racial and ethnic minorities. Researchers have found that segregation between races within neighborhoods can have a heavy influence on violent crime (Hipp 2007; Krivo, Byron, Calder, Peterson, Browning, Kwon, Lee 2014), although not all literature had the same results. Three races that were used throughout the research were Blacks, Whites, and Latinos. Within racially segregated neighborhoods, those with a higher percentage of African Americans experience higher rates of violent crime (Hipp 2007). The same thing can also be said about Latinos. Many organs are used but the kidneys make up 75% of the global illicit trade in organs (Denis and Davison). The kidneys are being sold because of the rising rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems (Denis and Davison) that are occurring more commonly in people. With the demand for organs so high currently, the adoption rate is going to increase to try and sell children for their organs. Especially with the birth rate still increasing, the Chinese are still having kids and sending the girls to orphanages more often than boys. The one child policy is affecting the organ trade because families are still having kids when they are not suppose to and it is leaving children without families in orphanages. • 29. Glucocorticoids Research Paper Glucocorticoids are well known for their analgesic, anti inflammatory, immune modulating, and antiemetic effects. A. Anti Inflammatory and Immunosuppressive Effects Glucocorticoids dramatically reduce the manifestations of inflammation. This is due to their profound effects on the concentration, distribution, and function of peripheral leukocytes and to their suppressive effects on the inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and on other mediators of inflammation. Inflammation, regardless of its cause, is characterized by the extravasation and infiltration of leukocytes into the affected tissue. These events are mediated by a complex series of interactions of white cell adhesion molecules with those on endothelial cells and are inhibited by glucocorticoids. After a single dose of a glucocorticoid, the concentration of neutrophils in the circulation increases while the lymphocytes (T and B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils decrease. The changes are maximal at 6 hours and are dissipated in 24 hours. The increase in neutrophils is due both to the increased influx into the blood from the bone marrow and to the decreased ... It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear understanding of who we are.
