Frankenstein s monster begins his life full of hope, displaying care for other people and a desire
for knowledge despite the abandonment and confusion he feels. Somewhere along the road of his
life, however, the creature s pain and loneliness damage his internal being with violent results. At
what point did the dark forces of his outside world become too much to endure? Could he have
ignored his reality and continued to live in hope of a better time? Furthermore, how can we apply
the creature s struggle to humanity?
Circumstances or events in a person s life can affect him or her in a multitude of ways and at a
multitude of times. At the beginning of the book, Frankenstein s monster is alone and confused,
and yet he feels nothing but a desire to live fully and with a good heart. The creature s
explanation is simple: As yet I looked upon crime as a distant evil; benevolence and generosity
were ever present before me, inciting within me a desire to become an actor in the busy scene
where so many admirable qualities are called forth and displayed (130). The creature is referring
to his time watching the cottagers, whom he observed and admired from afar for a time at the
beginning of his life. He sees only the good in these people and thus looks on the world and his

In English 2111 we studied from the books of The Bedford Anthology of World Literature volume
one through three. We as a class had to analyze three units; which were units 1 (Creation), 2 (Epic
Heroes), and 3 (Courtly Love). Each unit had its level of difficulties but my favorite unit was unit 3
Courtly Love. Courtly Love gave me different outlook of love when I read the different poems and
help me understand things I did not understand. To finish the summer strong we are to analyze once
more taking one story from each unit to analyze power. In my opinion you could use the word
power in multiple ways. You could have the power of love, the power to rule over, or just to have
power to be able to move your body.
