How Climate Change Affected Canada
Climate change happens when long term weather patterns are refined. It can be identified in the
changes of temperature, winds, precipitation, and other forms of natural processes. This can occur
through many different factors, one being through human activity. Global warming is one of the
main scales used to measure climatechange. For life to be able to continue on Earth, the sun is
required. Solar radiation is reflected back into space, however, small amounts of radiation get
trapped in the Earth s atmosphere, causing a rise of temperature. The atmosphere is composed of
delicate gases, the most important gas being Carbon Dioxide. A main component on Earth is
Carbon, which is released into the atmosphere through many activities, one human... Show more

Asset-Based Community Development
For the last three months, I have been volunteering at Bobbi and The Strays, while there I help
feed the cats but most importantly I give them attention. One of the worst side effects of living in a
shelter is that many times the workers have no time to be affectionate towards the animals. This
can cause them to become aggressive or even depressed making the transition from shelter to home
much more difficult. I really enjoy being able to sit down and play with all of the kittens and cats.
But, what I really enjoy is watching the workers, volunteers, and the whole Freeport community
works together in order to maintain happy and healthy space. We live in a time filled with a lot of
hatred and mistreatment, this mistreatment is usually broadcasted... Show more content on

Many times when people think of social activism they fail to realize that social activism includes
animals as well. However, social activism is a very broad topic that includes people, animals, and
the environment. Animal abuse is a major issue in America, abuse towards domesticated and
wild animals is still relatively prevalent. The goal of Bobbi and The Strays is to take in
neglected, abused and unwanted animals and find loving homes for them. Bobbi and The Strays
are also a no kill shelter meaning that regardless of whether or not an animal is old or
unadoptable they will not be killed in order to make more space. Many shelters within America
will euthanize healthy animals if they have been living in the shelter too long or are old. Bobbi

Essay on Africa vs European Imperialism
DBQ: Imperialism In AfricaAzra Azvar Period 3 2/21/10 White s vs Blacks
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries European imperialism caused its countries to divide up the
rest of the world, each country claiming bits as its own. Due to its large amounts of resources,
Africa was one of the main areas European nations invaded in the cause if imperialism. In Africa,
there were positive and negative effects towards the Africans and the invaders. Some positive
effects on Africans were that they were provided with security by their rulers and new technology
was introduced to them. Some of the negative effects were that the Africans lost their natural rights
such as freedom, the beginning of slavery, and the loss of their land and ... Show more content on

During the Berlin Conference, the nations of Europe divided up Africa as though no on lived on
the continent and the land was free to take. Also, Europeans lived at the expense of the Africans,
who received little or no pay for the labor they have to put up with. The Africans were tormented in
so many ways and their deprived souls.
Although imperialism was mostly negative fro Africans, they did receive some benefits. One
positive effect was that they were provided with security by their rulers (Doc .4). Colonization and
the presence of European soldiers reduced warfare within the colony. Another positive effect of
imperialism for the Africans was that improved technology gave introduced to the civilized world.
Communications improved because Europeans set up telephone and telegraph poles. Also,
transportation improved because of railroads and the steam engine. Although, this technology was
mostly used by Europeans, the ideas were brought to the African colonies all the same. The Africans
did benefit from the imperialism a tinge.
European imperialism in Africa had a large impact on the Africans, but it also affected the
Europeans who colonized the continent. One positive effect of imperialism on Europeans was
that they were able to gain financially from Africa s resources (Doc 4). Africa had a large number
of resources such as diamonds and rubber which could be sold at a high

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice...
Do you hate littering? Don t you hate when you go to a nice beach and you see trash all over?
Dave Barry s anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice Guys is a high level of comedy that uses a
personal issue and exaggerates it to reveal universal truth about littering. The author uses comic
characters/caricatures and hyperboles. First, the author used a lot of hyperboles. For example,
on page 326, I HATE littering. I hate it when you go to a park or the beach and the day is
suddenly destroyed by the arrival of The Picnic People from Hell. This situation was exaggerated
with humor to express the narrator s hatred for littering. Another example of a hyperbole is on
page 325, They just WALK AWAY from what looks like the scene of a tragic dumpster explosion.
This quote is expressing the how big of a mess they left.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, on page 326, Captain Tidy is a concept I have fantasized about for many years. He
is a masked avenger for the forces of neatness. When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes
swooping out of nowhere and explains to the litterer, in polite terms, that he or she is being a
jerk. Captain Tidy is a caricature in this passage. He is a character that the narrator made up so
he could have some fun but also tell people to pick up their trash. The narrator and his friend
would dress up in their costumes and go out in public to stop people from littering. The reason
why Captain Tidy is considered a caricature is because he is a made up character. Another example
of a caricature is on page 326, But if I knew that if Captain Tidy had a SIDEKICK, a LARGE
sidekick, a large, TRAINED OPTOMETRIST sidekick, that would be a whole different story.
And thus Jeff and I became Captain Tidy and Neatness Man. The other caricature in this passage
is Neatness Man. Just like Captain Tidy, Neatness Man is not real. He is also a made up character
to try to get people to stop

Improvements As A Writer And Thinker
Improvements as a Writer and Thinker Reflecting as a writer and thinker I have noticed
tremendous improvements in my work. My whole thought process and way of viewing topics has
changed, giving me a better understanding when I write. In the beginning of the term I ran into
many problems in College Writing I for instance, I was not too familiar with writingin MLA format
and struggled reaching the page count. I found myself to procrastinate when papers were assigned
making my anxiety levels increase. Despite my struggles as a writer and thinker, I learned how to
overcome these obstacles. I learned to be open minded and looking at topics from another
perspective. In the beginning of the term I was assigned an essaythat described me as a writer and
thinker. With this essay being my first assignment, I was quite stressed with the feeling of failure.
After this assignment I learned the importance of the drafting system. After my paper was graded
I received it back and noticed multiple mistakes. This was the first step I practiced improving.
Writing multiple drafts helped me analysis the material I wrote from another point of view. For
example, I was able to eliminate sections that were unrelated from the main point. Building my
vocabulary up another step I had focus as a writer and thinker. I used a combination between the
dictionary and thesaurus to help me increase my vocabulary. Overtime with experience, I saw
improvements in all of these categories that I was struggling

Problems With Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is very delicate topic when considering its relationship with child development.
Children who are present within a family experiencing domestic violence are likely to experience
problem integrating as they grow up and are probable to be significantly affected as a result of
seeing one of their tutors being aggressed. Many children who see domestic violencehappening in
their homes typically believe that they are the reason for differences between their parents. In
addition to this, these individuals are exposed to becoming victims of child abuseand constantly live
in a state of fear.
In order to understand how domestic violence affects children, one needs to gain a more complex
comprehension of the idea of domestic violence. A common definition of domestic violence is
any episode of threatening behavior, aggression or abuse between two grown individuals who are
in a relationship or who are members of the same family, with no regard to their gender or sexuality
(Sterne Poole 3).
While seeing domestic violence happening can be traumatic even for an adult, matters are much
more troubling when considering a child s perspective. Domestic violence is much more common
than some might be inclined to believe and most schools are probable to have children who have
seen it happen at home. For many, home is a stressful, unpredictable place; the family is a source
of conflict and some children live in an almost constant state of fear about the next violent

sign off on them, make sure that all off balance sheets are reported, disclose to the public all
material changes that have taken place within the company over a given year, and lays down
penalties for those who do not follow these requirements. The Public Company Accounting
Oversight Board monitors businesses to make sure they comply with the act. GM, although it has

Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis
Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be.
Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities.
As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used
for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of
Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of
understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic
status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages
and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and
passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand
the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little
awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does
not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving
diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society
needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that
her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts
her discussion

Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed...
In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox
have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because
of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so
they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get
their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase
the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox
s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus
restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for
The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still
relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject
matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough
evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and
meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political
goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however
Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state
of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the

Speech Codes Theory Essay
I.Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the
kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize
their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge
can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key
theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates
research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published
in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of
four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was
presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of
which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory
was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a
large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version
of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about
cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the
ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these studies were cited in

Mid-Life Crisis Narrative
I watched another man having a mid life crisis, pull out of the Novak car dealership across the
street in a silver convertible. My uncle ran that dealership. I scanned my dad s car lot; the cars
were much older with red numbers written on the windshields, and they were Hondas rather than

Steven Spielberg s Gertie The Dinosaur
The main problem that animation faces is that it is an overtly fake diegetic form. The viewer is
presented with a constructed reality of drawings and paintings, which may represent the real world,
but unlike photographic film, does not look like it. The challenge therefore is to create characters
that may believably inhabit their particular diegetic reality. Animators have strived to find a way to
resolve this issue through their character design and an awareness of how to deliver narrative
information through their characters. This essay will illustrate the solutions that animators have
found to make their audiences believe what is put in front of them.
In 1914 Winsor McCay took up the (self imposed) challenge of making dinosaurs live again via
animation. The result was Gertie the Dinosaur a semi live act with McCay performing onstage with

He talks to her and asks her to perform tricks, which she obliges to do. We are also drawn
attention to the fact that she is thirsty and she drains a lake. The performance would climax with
her picking up McCay (as he exits the stage.) and bounding of the screen with him on his back.
Through this series of call and response between the live action McCay and the animated Gertie,
McCay creates the illusion of human understanding within the animated dinosaur. There is also at
one point a look of glee in her face after a fight scene when she throws the defeated mammoth into a
lake. Through the human interaction and the animation McCay has anthropomorphically endowed
the animated creature with human emotions: he has made her believable to the audience by giving
her recognizable human traits.
In his book Understanding Animation Paul Wells recognizes that the use of attributing animated
animal characters anthropomorphic characteristics has become a mainstay of character
development. It will be discussed in further detail later in the

Both the Northand South had lots of farmers, but the South was more successful. Their success

Essay On Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rome
The Dominating Advantages of Rome The small city of Rome emerged as a city state right
around 600 BC and was located in the Latium region in the Italian Peninsula. On its way to
eventually dominating the entire peninsula, it is documented that Rome had a few advantages
that gave them the upper hand. Some of these advantages were geographical location, outside
influence, innate culture characteristics, and their military power. They started as a tiny city
state (a city and its territory separated from other countries) and over the course of around three
hundred years they expanded and began to conquer nearby territories and eventually conquered
the entirety of the Italian Peninsula. In the 6th Century BC the main way to transfer and trade
goods was through physically transporting said goods. Two of the main ways to do this was
through land and maritime commerce. A very unique thing about the city state of Rome was its
geographical location in respect to roads and routes for ships. Virtually every land road in
Latium converged into Rome. Rome s centralized location on the coast was a prime position
seeing as weary seamen had a perfect hub to stop, rest, and trade. Having that much traffic from
land travellers and boats carrying goods from hard to reach countries gave Rome a distinct
advantage over any other region, let alone another city state on the Italian Peninsula. This gave
Rome access to goods and that surrounding regions did not possess. In having these new

From this, engineers determined that chassis quality was important. A fourth table was created
to know the importance index of various function groups by using information from table1 and
table 3. For example, the importance index for chassis is calculated by multiplying each row in
table 3 with the relative percentage of each column of table1 that is (.50 x .41) + (.30 x .32) + (.10
x .18) + (.10 x .09) = .33. A final table was developed to calculate the target costindex for each
functional group. The target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from
table 4) with target cost (from table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and
the target cost is 20% so the target cost index is 1.65. A function group with target cost index
ration less than 1 indicates that it is a candidate for possible cost reduction. That is the ratio of
cost to benefit is low. Options available are: Re evaluating assumptions or importance, reduce cost
of existing design by working with supply partners. In general, 80% of the components and
systems are provided by suppliers. So working with the suppliers for cost reduction is very critical
for target costing. Through an iterative process, either the importance index or the target cost is
adjusted to bring the target cost index to the desired level. By using target costing, Mercedes

will have a positive impact on overall satisfaction or customer loyalty and retention. Typically, the
goal is to establish the list of priorities and relative importance of the explanatory variables, rather

Effects Of Technology On Family Relationships
Influence of technology on family relations Technology has dramatically affected the way family
members relate with one another. Several years ago family members lived for each other and had a
lot of affection for each other from the way they communicated to the way they carried out their
activities together. In the modern era technology has influenced the nature and direction of flow of
information in the family(Correa 123). The use of human and non human characters affects the
nature of the relationship that exists in a family and the expectations of various characters from

The narrator also uses onomatopoeia to describe the nature of the relationship in the home. For
instance, he says his wife paused in the middle of the kitchen and watched the stove busy
humming to itself, making supper for four (Bradbury 1). The author used this sound to illustrate
loneliness are the stove was busy in the absence of human beings. Though the stove was meant to
cook for four people, those people were absent although the cooking was on going. It implies that
the replacement of human being by a machine is not possible and so the presence of the family
members is necessary for a lively environment. The narratives of the home environment
demonstrate the loneliness the family is experiencing and diminishing relationship, especially
between the parents and children. The narrator tells of the silent nursery that resembles jungle
glade at hot noon (Bradbury 1). George and his wife visit the nursery, but when they cannot take
more of the horrible site, they dash out frightened by imaginary lions. She suggests they shut the
nursery and the house for some time and go on vacation. George is amazed and asks his wife

Manipulation In John Donne s The Flea
Manipulation at First Sight
The seductive poem The Flea by John Donne makes a more effective argument for why
the love interest should yield to his affections than the seductive poem To His Coy Mistress by
Andrew Marvell. Donne s speaker is more effectively manipulative than Marvell s, and
Marvell s speaker does not have the command of logic that Donne s speaker has.
The first and most consistent tactic used by Donne s speaker in The Flea is alternating
meter. The first line of the poem is iambic tetrameter, with a trochaic first foot to catch the
attention of the reader; the second line of the poem is iambic pentameter. The meter fluctuates
between the two for the entire poem. This alternation works to keep the lover off balance ... Show

her of her inevitable death. His argument is not definite or specific enough; his proposed course

Book Review: Killer Angels
The novel Killer Angels by Michael Shaara portrays the battle of Gettysburg in all of its glory
from the perspective of both the Union and the Confederate soldiers. He told the story of the
battle day by day, switching from General to General, and showing an immense amount of insight
and research to how things most likely occurred during the heat of battle in July of 1863. Not only
did Shaara display various viewpoints of the battle, he did it in a convincing style.
Killer Angels was written not as a work of non fiction but rather as a historical fiction, in which
literary license and research was used to put the reader into the mind of all of the main leaders of
the Battle of Gettysburg. At the time of the publishing of this novel, Shaara s idea of humanizing
all of the leaders was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, on the Confederate side, he shows how an ailing and weary Robert E. Lee has
pinned his hopes to end the war on the idea of attacking and destroying the Union army on it s own
ground. Shaara depicted Lee s top general, James Longstreet, as being against the invasion because
he believed the South s military success had come from a defensive style of warfare. This idea that
Longstreet was apprehensive about the attack is an interesting perspective that deepens the struggle
of Lee in the battle. As they advance into Pennsylvania, Shaara ties his new idea together with the
known fact that the Confederates had been left with a dangerous lack of information about Union
movements. This is due to cavalry officer J.E.B. Stuart failing to provide them with reports from
his scouting mission. Shaara s perspective on Longstreet does a lot to aid his reputation after he
was scapegoated in the aftermath of the war by the defeated Confederate

Outline the contribution to Islam of ONE significant person or school of thought other than
Muhammad and the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs.
Sayyid Qutb s contributions lie in his books and writings, which express his values and
perspectives. He wrote a total of 24 book and articles criticising the American way of living and
the Arab world for trying to become westernised. Social Justice in Islam was written first,
expressing his belief in tawhid (unity in God) and in Islam as the only way of life. He then joined
the Muslim Brotherhood, contributing to Islamic perspectives as chief editor of the brotherhood s
newspaper. Sayyid was arrested as he was accused of attempting to overthrow the govt. In prison, he
completed Shadows of the Qur an, which is a commentary on the Qur an, trying to find new
ideology and thus return to a truly Islamic environment analysing how Muhammad dealt with
ignorance. Milestones was published after his release and was so controversial, it lead to him
being re arrested. Three concepts were introduced in Milestones known as jihad (struggle against
evil as a community), jahiliyya (ignorance) and aqida (belief in Allah). As a result, Muslims strive
to fulfil their duty to defeat jahiliyya through forms such as jihad to serve Allah.

times when all we were doing was having fun. All the allusions to health also make the consumer

The first advertising technique use is transfer. Transfer is everywhere from the smiling faces of
the models to the use of words like, Organic, Healthier, Tastier, Better, and New. All these words

Teams must select the perfect combination of skilled players and enforcers (Jones, Nadeau Walsh,
1997). In addition to battling other enforcers, these players try to limit the success of opposing

thus incentivizing violence in the game of hockey. A culture of violence is embraced, rather than
discouraged. This violence trickles down from the ice to the crowds and to younger generations in
amateur leagues (Jones, Ferguson Sunderman, 1996). In an analysis that reflected on the culture of

Essay On Risk-Dependent Lncrnas
3)Risk dependent lncRNAs transcripts significantly recaptured both neural tube specific enhancers
that were validated in vivo and the neuroblastoma susceptibility variations that were found by
GWASs.
In order to discover oncogenic noncoding loci, we first asked whether deregulated noncoding
transcripts between two distinct risk groups over represent functional enhancers that have been
evident by tissue specific enhancer activities and disease susceptibility alleles in neuroblastoma.
To identify functional enhancers from transcriptome profiling, we have reanalyzed dysregulated
transcripts derived from total RNA seq data (GSE49711, n=498, tumor cell content 60%) pertaining

Specifically, over 1400 positively validated tissue specific enhancers were downloaded from the
VISTA Enhancer Browser (31). These in vivo validation was tissue specific, thus an empirical p
value was also calculated per type of tissue and enriched for neural tube (empirical P 0.005, Fig
3D). We conclude that risk group dependent lncRNAs are a powerful metric to indicate tissue
specific functional enhancers. A risk dependent enhancer was hereafter defined from the neuro tube
specific enhancers if its locus overlaps with any risk dependent lncRNAs.
Oncogenic signaling underlying these tissue specific and risk dependent enhancers is ready for
interpretation. We identified 37 neural tube specific risk dependent enhancers, of which we
observed three strong associations to oncogenesis below:
We first inquired the TF binding potency, as the binding of sequence specific TFs to cognate motifs
is typically required by enhancers to regulate gene expression (32). 70 human TFs showed
significant binding potency (odds 1.5, FDR 0.001, with more than 10% instance proportion), with
tumorigenic regulator FoxM1 among the top 5 (Fig 3E).
None housekeeping genes were captured, agreeing with the idea that housekeeping genes are in
general regulated by simple promoters (1). In contrast, these TFs significantly over represent
known oncogenes (P=0.01, odds=5) and tumor suppressor genes (P=0.0003, odds=7.5, Fig

The Long Term Economic Growth
As a product of colonization, the limited industrial development in the colonized area is a global
issue. Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed
countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the
contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can
say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current
contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized
countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own

In To Build A Fire Symbolism
In literature, imagery is used to evoke certain images and feelings in the reader s mind, to show
the reader the story instead of merely telling it. On the other hand, metaphors, and symbolism are
used to represent a concept and gives nuance to a story. Jack London uses imagery, metaphors,

London emphasizes this concept when he describes King s clothes as ... old and slouchy... his

Whether it is Tom Hanks from Forrest Gump or Julia Roberts from Erin Brockovich, actors and
actresses have the power to leave movie goers thinking. Along with the writer, director, producer
and about a hundred others, actors have some impact on what viewers feel. Denzel Washington is
an actor who is constantly involved in influential movies. Denzel Washingtons roles in dissenting
voice films like Philadelphia, Fences, Malcolm X, and Cry Freedom leave viewers discussing and
emotionally reacting to opinions that differ from the majority. Philadelphia introduces justice and
the social issues, prejudice and discrimination, that comes from sexual orientation and a medical
diagnosis. Fences highlights discrimination and delivers a message on the meaning of life and all
that comes with it. Malcolm Xgives viewers a look at politics, transformations, and discrimination
while Cry Freedom sheds light on the political corruption, friendship, and race relations in South
Africa. In 1993, Philadelphia was released starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks.
Washington played a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller who, unwilling at first, eventually helps a
man, Andrew Beckett (Hanks) who believes he was wrongly fired from his job after a co worker
saw what was assumed to be signs and symptoms of HIV. This film is based off the true story of
Geoffrey Bowers and introduces the social and medical fear that surrounds AIDS and the people
who have it. The main message behind this ground breaking

Copyright in a work can be infringed by copying it, issuing copies of it to the public or making an
adaptation of it . It is apparent that hyperlinks are not a material form of a copy, but merely an
electronic link to another site. Authorisation would only be required for clickable links, if it is

People’s Experiences of Death and Dying Are Profoundly...
Introduction
People s experiences of death and dying are profoundly affected by social and cultural differences.
Socio economic factors such as standard of living, economic infrastructure, diet, environmental
disasters, war, sexual pervasiveness, disease etc all interconnect to affect the way in which they
frame an individual s experience of death and dying. The unequal distribution of resource
throughout the world and the differing levels of food shortage, disease, war and natural disasters
need to be taken into account when considering how health care workers can improve the needs of
people who are dying.
Culture, identity and personal beliefs all have a profound impact on an individual s choices in the
context of the dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should not see the elderly as a burden and think only in terms of medicating the elderly.
They need to challenge the view that Good death is when a person grows old and dies
peacefully (Block 1, Unit 3, page 116). Health care workers need to have appropriate training to
identify the many unmet social needs of the elderly and provide better access to palliative care.
Rather than seeking solely to provide a peaceful death, they should also look to provide a dignified
death and provide the best level of care they can offer to the elderly patient taking into account the
patients social and emotional care needs and observing their personal choices.
Cultural differences
We live in an increasingly multicultural world, with global inequalities and world events such as
natural disasters and wars. This means that we are surrounded by many different competing and
challenging ideas about a good death (Block 1, Unit 4, page 120). Trying to recognise different
attitudes, beliefs and cultural practices could assist those caring for the dying and could contribute
towards greater equality (Block 1, Unit 5, page 120).
In the audio for Block 1, Unit 5, Activity 5.3 Nurat describes her father s death in the family home
in Bradford. She talks about her cultural background and the importance of family members caring
for the dying person rather than leaving them in a care home or hospice. For Nurat, visiting

Mandatory Concealed Weapons On Campus
Because of the changes of brutal criminal acts on college campus, numerous professional weapon
extremist have recommended that both the college student and college instructors ought to be
permitted to carry concealed weapons on campus. Those for this may assert that their rights have
been damaged on the grounds that numerous school grounds decline to permit weapons of any sort

rather it is whether firearms ought to be permitted on a school grounds. The Constitution of The
United States of America as of now concedes nationals the privilege to carry concealed weapon,
and being in the south, I am by a wide margin no outsider to seeing a firearm every once in a
while, however it is not proper for firearms to be in a defenseless region, for example, a school

permitting them on an instructive office would extraordinarily improve the probability of harm or
demise. Americans, as beforehand specified, have the privilege to carry weapons, and this ought to
be held sacrosanct, and not encroached, taken away, or restricted. Then again, stricter guncontrol
ought to be executed for the individuals who decided to convey a hid weapon, and firearm control
ought to be carried out by having stricter accreditation forms before a gun or firearm grant is

Just in Time
1.Executive Summary
This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the Just In Time system, the advantages and
disadvantages of the system and how it would benefit AG Z. The Just In Time (JIT) system is a
process where goods are ordered as required, as opposed to the currently used batch processing
system where goods are made in bulk and stored in warehouses until sold. The Just In Time system
was initially developed to not only cut down the amount of waste produced by other systems, which
was seen as incurring unnecessary costs rather than adding value to the company, but to also meet
customer demands with minimum delays. It has been found that when implemented correctly the
JIT system can benefit the company in numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In its simplest terms, the Kanban system is used to alert the production team exactly what needs to
be produced, the quantity required and the designated time frame (Horngren, George Srikant 1997).
5.Expected Results
The Batch Processing System currently used at AG Z is a system where products are produced in
bulk quantities or batches whether required by the customer or not. These goods are then stored in
warehouses until required. This process produces large amounts of waste in both inventory and
warehousing as the goods are not sold immediately, and could be required to be held for any length
of time.
The Just in Time system however is a process that produces necessary products as required. This
system is highly beneficial as it reduces the amount of inventory waste, as the goods are made to
order. It also reduces warehousing costs as the goods are made and shipped directly to the customer
rather than being held for extended periods at the warehouse.
As a result of these benefits, the JIT system has been particularly effective for companies with a
high customer demand on newly developed technologies such as computers. If the product is
produced when required and as specified by the customer, this not only allows the customer to order
exactly what they want with modern technology, but it also benefits the manufacturer who is
guaranteed a return on the goods straight

Working With The Communications Department A Presentation
Due to the fact the issue was identified through an audit, it was on all the manager s radar.
However, we as managers tend to get issues on our radar and fail to act. The business started to
address this issue by holding a Town Hall meeting with leaders to address the issue. By working
with the Communications Department a presentation was created to capture what our competitors
were doing in the same arena, we were bleeding out in. By putting this into perspective, leaders
were able to see how close those competitors were, to taking the business away from us. Knowing
that their jobs and futures are at risk, we were able to gain about a 55 65% stakeholder commitment
to drive this initiativeforward. Even though the support was more than we... Show more content on

goal is to show that linkage that brings into fruition a roadmap that outlines a road of success,
addressing the concerns of our customers. In a business as intricate as ours, it is critical to have a
roadmap that helps all stakeholders understand the direction the business is taking and a solid
plan on how we will get there. In order to ensure achievement and success of the goals, we needed
to tie the initiative directly to the objectives. With this new initiative, each employee was able to

Gender In Advertising
Taking a look at the details can make a big impact in what you think you are seeing. On the
outside, we see sexes that are the biological differences in individuals, but what about the concept
of gender? The expectations that society creates about men and women establish these levels of
association people gather together. As these roles come about, people begin to grow accustom and
oblivious to the reoccurring presence. In the current era, media continues to expand all over the
areas of daily living. One of the major forms of communication is advertising, which relays
information to society about a certain product, location, or trending topic. Whether it be on
television, the radio, or the internet, genderis intertwined into these forms of... Show more content

Not only is gender forcefully depicted over the course of life, but also the level of intensity in the
advertisements is seen quite often. Sexual influence is used abundantly towards men, and
businesses find a way to incorporate this factor in almost anything. One of the more gentle ads is
the M M pin that has the green candy taking off her outer shell. The sex appeal from the candy
gives off a vibe to men that if they purchase this product, they will be satisfied. Not only is it seen
through a cartoon candy, but in real life women too. The intensity increases for products that more
older men would see. As seen on television, the well known Hardee s commercials utilize women
as a way to pair burgers with romance. These commercials vary in magnitude, but one of the more
vulgar ones is the all natural burger. The main girl appears to be naked throughout the commercial,
and gives off seductive vibes that put the male actors in a trance. Curiosity grows as in continues
to stream, and at the end the audience see that the girl is clothed, rather in a skimpy outfit, with of
course, the burger. Another pin that displays similar intensity is the Charlotte Brillat Savarin
cheese ad, which has a girl mostly naked, only covered by an apron. Even though the
advertisement is for cheese, the woman adds a way to gain the attention of men, who socially are
viewed to desire sex appeal. All in all, the pins reveal that the gender identity for real men is aimed
at intimate relationships with

  • 2. How Climate Change Affected Canada Climate change happens when long term weather patterns are refined. It can be identified in the changes of temperature, winds, precipitation, and other forms of natural processes. This can occur through many different factors, one being through human activity. Global warming is one of the main scales used to measure climatechange. For life to be able to continue on Earth, the sun is required. Solar radiation is reflected back into space, however, small amounts of radiation get trapped in the Earth s atmosphere, causing a rise of temperature. The atmosphere is composed of delicate gases, the most important gas being Carbon Dioxide. One of the worst side effects of living in a shelter is that many times the workers have no time to be affectionate towards the animals. This can cause them to become aggressive or even depressed making the transition from shelter to home much more difficult. I really enjoy being able to sit down and play with all of the kittens and cats. But, what I really enjoy is watching the workers, volunteers, and the whole Freeport community works together in order to maintain happy and healthy space. We live in a time filled with a lot of hatred and mistreatment, this mistreatment is usually broadcasted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times when people think of social activism they fail to realize that social activism includes animals as well. However, social activism is a very broad topic that includes people, animals, and the environment. Animal abuse is a major issue in America, abuse towards domesticated and wild animals is still relatively prevalent. The goal of Bobbi and The Strays is to take in neglected, abused and unwanted animals and find loving homes for them. Bobbi and The Strays are also a no kill shelter meaning that regardless of whether or not an animal is old or unadoptable they will not be killed in order to make more space. Many shelters within America will euthanize healthy animals if they have been living in the shelter too long or are old. Due to its large amounts of resources, Africa was one of the main areas European nations invaded in the cause if imperialism. In Africa, there were positive and negative effects towards the Africans and the invaders. Some positive effects on Africans were that they were provided with security by their rulers and new technology was introduced to them. Some of the negative effects were that the Africans lost their natural rights such as freedom, the beginning of slavery, and the loss of their land and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Berlin Conference, the nations of Europe divided up Africa as though no on lived on the continent and the land was free to take. Also, Europeans lived at the expense of the Africans, who received little or no pay for the labor they have to put up with. The Africans were tormented in so many ways and their deprived souls. Although imperialism was mostly negative fro Africans, they did receive some benefits. One positive effect was that they were provided with security by their rulers (Doc .4). Colonization and the presence of European soldiers reduced warfare within the colony. Another positive effect of imperialism for the Africans was that improved technology gave introduced to the civilized world. Communications improved because Europeans set up telephone and telegraph poles. Also, transportation improved because of railroads and the steam engine. Although, this technology was mostly used by Europeans, the ideas were brought to the African colonies all the same. The Africans did benefit from the imperialism a tinge. European imperialism in Africa had a large impact on the Africans, but it also affected the Europeans who colonized the continent. • 5. Analysis Of Dave Barry s Anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice... Do you hate littering? Don t you hate when you go to a nice beach and you see trash all over? Dave Barry s anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice Guys is a high level of comedy that uses a personal issue and exaggerates it to reveal universal truth about littering. The author uses comic characters/caricatures and hyperboles. First, the author used a lot of hyperboles. For example, on page 326, I HATE littering. I hate it when you go to a park or the beach and the day is suddenly destroyed by the arrival of The Picnic People from Hell. This situation was exaggerated with humor to express the narrator s hatred for littering. Another example of a hyperbole is on page 325, They just WALK AWAY from what looks like the scene of a tragic dumpster explosion. This quote is expressing the how big of a mess they left.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, on page 326, Captain Tidy is a concept I have fantasized about for many years. He is a masked avenger for the forces of neatness. When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes swooping out of nowhere and explains to the litterer, in polite terms, that he or she is being a jerk. Captain Tidy is a caricature in this passage. He is a character that the narrator made up so he could have some fun but also tell people to pick up their trash. The narrator and his friend would dress up in their costumes and go out in public to stop people from littering. The reason why Captain Tidy is considered a caricature is because he is a made up character. Another example of a caricature is on page 326, But if I knew that if Captain Tidy had a SIDEKICK, a LARGE sidekick, a large, TRAINED OPTOMETRIST sidekick, that would be a whole different story. And thus Jeff and I became Captain Tidy and Neatness Man. The other caricature in this passage is Neatness Man. Just like Captain Tidy, Neatness Man is not real. • 6. Improvements As A Writer And Thinker Improvements as a Writer and Thinker Reflecting as a writer and thinker I have noticed tremendous improvements in my work. My whole thought process and way of viewing topics has changed, giving me a better understanding when I write. In the beginning of the term I ran into many problems in College Writing I for instance, I was not too familiar with writingin MLA format and struggled reaching the page count. I found myself to procrastinate when papers were assigned making my anxiety levels increase. Despite my struggles as a writer and thinker, I learned how to overcome these obstacles. I learned to be open minded and looking at topics from another perspective. In the beginning of the term I was assigned an essaythat described me as a writer and thinker. With this essay being my first assignment, I was quite stressed with the feeling of failure. After this assignment I learned the importance of the drafting system. After my paper was graded I received it back and noticed multiple mistakes. This was the first step I practiced improving. Writing multiple drafts helped me analysis the material I wrote from another point of view. For example, I was able to eliminate sections that were unrelated from the main point. Building my vocabulary up another step I had focus as a writer and thinker. I used a combination between the dictionary and thesaurus to help me increase my vocabulary. Overtime with experience, I saw improvements in all of these categories that I was struggling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Problems With Domestic Violence Domestic violence is very delicate topic when considering its relationship with child development. Children who are present within a family experiencing domestic violence are likely to experience problem integrating as they grow up and are probable to be significantly affected as a result of seeing one of their tutors being aggressed. Many children who see domestic violencehappening in their homes typically believe that they are the reason for differences between their parents. In addition to this, these individuals are exposed to becoming victims of child abuseand constantly live in a state of fear. In order to understand how domestic violence affects children, one needs to gain a more complex comprehension of the idea of domestic violence. A common definition of domestic violence is any episode of threatening behavior, aggression or abuse between two grown individuals who are in a relationship or who are members of the same family, with no regard to their gender or sexuality (Sterne Poole 3). While seeing domestic violence happening can be traumatic even for an adult, matters are much more troubling when considering a child s perspective. Domestic violence is much more common than some might be inclined to believe and most schools are probable to have children who have seen it happen at home. For many, home is a stressful, unpredictable place; the family is a source of conflict and some children live in an almost constant state of fear about the next violent ... • 9. Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be. Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities. As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts her discussion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed... In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Speech Codes Theory Essay I.Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these studies were cited in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Steven Spielberg s Gertie The Dinosaur The main problem that animation faces is that it is an overtly fake diegetic form. The viewer is presented with a constructed reality of drawings and paintings, which may represent the real world, but unlike photographic film, does not look like it. The challenge therefore is to create characters that may believably inhabit their particular diegetic reality. Animators have strived to find a way to resolve this issue through their character design and an awareness of how to deliver narrative information through their characters. This essay will illustrate the solutions that animators have found to make their audiences believe what is put in front of them. In 1914 Winsor McCay took up the (self imposed) challenge of making dinosaurs live again via animation. The result was Gertie the Dinosaur a semi live act with McCay performing onstage with the ... Through this series of call and response between the live action McCay and the animated Gertie, McCay creates the illusion of human understanding within the animated dinosaur. There is also at one point a look of glee in her face after a fight scene when she throws the defeated mammoth into a lake. Through the human interaction and the animation McCay has anthropomorphically endowed the animated creature with human emotions: he has made her believable to the audience by giving her recognizable human traits. In his book Understanding Animation Paul Wells recognizes that the use of attributing animated animal characters anthropomorphic characteristics has become a mainstay of character development. • 17. Essay On Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rome The Dominating Advantages of Rome The small city of Rome emerged as a city state right around 600 BC and was located in the Latium region in the Italian Peninsula. On its way to eventually dominating the entire peninsula, it is documented that Rome had a few advantages that gave them the upper hand. Some of these advantages were geographical location, outside influence, innate culture characteristics, and their military power. They started as a tiny city state (a city and its territory separated from other countries) and over the course of around three hundred years they expanded and began to conquer nearby territories and eventually conquered the entirety of the Italian Peninsula. In the 6th Century BC the main way to transfer and trade goods was through physically transporting said goods. Two of the main ways to do this was through land and maritime commerce. A very unique thing about the city state of Rome was its geographical location in respect to roads and routes for ships. Virtually every land road in Latium converged into Rome. Rome s centralized location on the coast was a prime position seeing as weary seamen had a perfect hub to stop, rest, and trade. Having that much traffic from land travellers and boats carrying goods from hard to reach countries gave Rome a distinct advantage over any other region, let alone another city state on the Italian Peninsula. This gave Rome access to goods and that surrounding regions did not possess. In having these new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A final table was developed to calculate the target costindex for each functional group. The target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from table 4) with target cost (from table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and the target cost is 20% so the target cost index is 1.65. To identify functional enhancers from transcriptome profiling, we have reanalyzed dysregulated transcripts derived from total RNA seq data (GSE49711, n=498, tumor cell content 60%) pertaining to neuroblastoma patients with risk stratifications (28). To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, over 1400 positively validated tissue specific enhancers were downloaded from the VISTA Enhancer Browser (31). These in vivo validation was tissue specific, thus an empirical p value was also calculated per type of tissue and enriched for neural tube (empirical P 0.005, Fig 3D). We conclude that risk group dependent lncRNAs are a powerful metric to indicate tissue specific functional enhancers. A risk dependent enhancer was hereafter defined from the neuro tube specific enhancers if its locus overlaps with any risk dependent lncRNAs. Oncogenic signaling underlying these tissue specific and risk dependent enhancers is ready for interpretation. We identified 37 neural tube specific risk dependent enhancers, of which we observed three strong associations to oncogenesis below: We first inquired the TF binding potency, as the binding of sequence specific TFs to cognate motifs is typically required by enhancers to regulate gene expression (32). 70 human TFs showed significant binding potency (odds 1.5, FDR 0.001, with more than 10% instance proportion), with tumorigenic regulator FoxM1 among the top 5 (Fig 3E). None housekeeping genes were captured, agreeing with the idea that housekeeping genes are in general regulated by simple promoters (1). In contrast, these TFs significantly over represent known oncogenes (P=0.01, odds=5) and tumor suppressor genes (P=0.0003, odds=7.5, Fig ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own features resources and structures, and taking effective measures impoting foreign capital and technology and establishing independent or joint scientific research and ventures, to gain a long term economic growth. For the relation between the colonization and the limited industrialization in colony, there are usually two views. One view is that people blame the colonizer were not willing to promote the development of industryin the colony. The other view is that people emphasize it was hard for the colonized to start the process of industrialization in the colony. On the other hand, metaphors, and symbolism are used to represent a concept and gives nuance to a story. Jack London uses imagery, metaphors, and symbols to give his stories meaning that is both authentic and realistic. London uses symbolism and imagery to reinforce the theme of the cycle of life and environmental adaptation in In to Build a Fire and in A Piece of Steak. King fights against Sandel to be able to feed his family and pay the bills because he lost all his money throughout the years. London emphasizes this concept when he describes King s clothes as ... old and slouchy... his cotton shirt, a cheap, two shilling affair, showed a frayed collar and ineradicable paint stains (Jack London 256). In addition, to help the reader visualize his appearance, King is described, ... lips were shapeless and constituted a mouth harsh to excess... jaw was aggressive, brutal, heavy. The eyes, slow of movement and heavy lidded... They were sleepy, lion like the eyes of a fighting animal. The forehead slanted quickly back to the hair, which, clipped close, showed every bump of a villainous looking head. A nose twice broken and moulded... and a cauliflower ear... (256). In addition, Tom King s name symbolizes he once was the King of boxing, but now Youth is his enemy. Additionally, London called this story A Piece of Steak because the steak that is in the title symbolizes that Tom King has a stake at winning the fight against Sandel. However, as the story reaches the resolution, King accepts his fate in the world and accepts the fact that he has no more fights in him since he is not able to go against Youth, thus symbolizing peace. Even though, Tom King tried to adapt to his environment, he could not. Overall, the title has a deep relationship with the story and symbolizes various things that make the story have a ...
