Lockheed Martin Case 2011
Executive Summary
Lockheed Martin is a leading security and defense company based in Bethesda, MD with operations
that span the globe. Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert
Stevens leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense (A
amp;D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase
shareholder value. However, recent issues with contract mismanagement and cost overruns
involving the government F 35 program leave a negative outlook on their operations. They also
face increasing pressure to acquire and retain key employees from a diminishing talent pool.
Government budget cuts threaten to hurt revenues, thus making it important for ... Show more

Efficient buildings, where companies such as Lockheed Martin have converted their buildings to be
efficient in saving energy, which is a way to cut costs in a declining economic environment,
emphasize stewardship of the environment. Europe has enacted a Clean Sky initiative, which is a
large research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport
technology.
Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge
technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R amp;D spending to be fairly
high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology.
Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending.
Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government
spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also
attempt to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin s secured contract with Israel for future
purchase of F 35 s, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased
competition is expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become
more competitive (Thompson).

The Initiation Of 3 D Printing
Initiation of 3 D printing took place in end 1980s. Fundamentals of 3 D printing were laid by
Japanese Professor. Although he was not able to contribute 100% with his idea, but later on, Mr.
Charles Huck carried on with this idea and finally came up with a machine that can create
prototypes. Later he also co founded a 3 D manufacturing company that is right now one of the
largest 3 D company in the world and contributes a lot to modern era problems. After this initiative,
progress on additive manufacturingprocess or 3 D printing got started, and since then, it became one
of the most important sector of science, specifically engineering, as it have produced a lot of useful
results and have also simplified some lengthy tasks, transforming them into efficient, accurate and
cost effective activity.
As discussed in introduction about types of 3 D printers and variety of industries where they can
be used, explanations regarding these aspects are as follows:
i.STEREO LITHOGRAPHY (SLA) ii. FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING iii. SELECTIVE
LASER SINTERING (SLS) iv. MULTI JET MODELLING (MJM)
v.VFLASH PRINTER vi. FUSED FILAMENT FABRICATION (FFF) OR FUSED DEPOSTION
MODELLING (FDM)
Fundamentals of all types of printers stated above are same. As prototypes are printed layer by
layer, so certain dimensions are required by printers to print that part. As all designing activities are
performed on computer and computers are used to directly send commands to printers, defining
actual structure of

Embryo Diagnosis
Embryo Diagnosis
Karen and Roger have decided to start a family. Again. It has been nearly six years since their
first and only child, Katie, was born, and just over two years since she died. In her four years of
life, Katie was plagued with the fatal Tay sachs disease. Because the enzyme needed to rid her
brain of fatty materials was absent at birth, she lost her sight when she was only eighteen months
old. Her ability to operate the left side of her body was gone several months later.
Understandably, the loss of their daughter devastated the young couple. The difficulty of watching
their little girl suffer and knowing it was their genetic makeup that caused her pain made it harder
to try having another baby. They honestly didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The possibility of predicting not only diseases, but specific traits such as eye color, height, and
intelligence levels makes eugenics very possible and much easier to attain. Not only is eugenics
ethically incorrect, but it will also have a negative effect on our genetic diversity.
Testing embryos for predispositions to certain behavioral tendencies like violence, schizophrenia,
alcoholism, or homosexuality could also lead to unfair destruction. Nurture and environment are
also factors that constitute behavior, as well as genetics.
Once these tests have been performed, there is no guarantee that the results are absolutely written in
stone. It is possible to terminate perfectly healthy embryos and unknowingly implant those with the
dreaded disease. Also, doctors are unable to predict the true extent of the disease. An embryo
diagnosed as positive may develop into a child with less severe symptoms and still be able to lead a
somewhat normal and productive life.
Some wonder about the defective embryos. Their existence is due only to the chance that two
people may have a healthy child, and to destroy them seems cold. Gary D. Hodgen of the Jones
Institute has a response to this concern. We don t for a minute pretend an embryo is paper wad,
said Mr. Hodgen. We know it s a potential human life (Wheeler A10).

Advertising Strategies In Advertising
Viktor drives a 2013 Dodge RAM. He realized he was wasting up to $1,000 in gas money a week so
he did a little car research. Two days later, he was driving down the freeway on his way home from
work. He glanced at a neatly placed billboard of a 2016 Prius with excellent mileage. The car
fascinated Viktor. He bought the car right away and traded in his gas chugging truck. Viktor was
happy and ready to use the money he will save on a vacation.
The ad industry is a necessary evil. This paper will examine how advertisements use marketing
strategies to reach the viewer s subconscious. To help prove my point, I will use the 2016 Toyota
Prius: Heck on Wheels advertisement. The advertisement starts with what is a content, organized,
single, middle aged man, momma s boy, with an indoor job, and drives a Prius singing to a
metal beat. The advertisements overall focus is to try to convince the audience that The All New
Prius is the new cool. It shows some safety features that come from driving the Prius. The driver
Todd Morgan approaches a gas station and shuns the other vehicles for needing to fill up gas it
shows the Prius saves a lot of gas. The advertisement is for the Average Joe . Some marketing
strategies used by this advertisement and advertisement companies include gender, social status, and
data mining.
Social status means the ranking one has in society. For example, the Kardashians have a very high
social status, a homeless heroin addict has a low social status. Todd

Cash Budgeting

Using a Cash Budget for Planning Purposes
Introduction
Let me begin by explaining what a cash budget is. A cash budget is a tool that helps individuals
and companies forecast a short term financing needs. Investopedia defines a cash budget as, an
estimation of the cash inflows and outflows for a business or individual for a specific period of
time. (Cash Budget) A cash budget is used to determine the borrower s ability to generate cash and
repay debt. A cash budget also provides an estimate of a company s or an individual s short term
cash position.
In this paper I will reveal the primary uses of cash budgets, as well as lay out a format for a cash
budget, explain which borrowers should prepare a cash budget ... Show more content on

Banks use cash budgets to determine when customizers are likely to need to borrow and to assure
themselves that borrowers will be able to repay the loans. On occasion the bank may want to
rework the cash budget and distinguish how unexpected changes in cash flow assumptions change
it. So if sales were lower than expected how would the company be doing and are they going to be
able to make good on their commitment to the bank. This could enable the bank to uncover
financing needs for foreseen by the company. For example when the cash flow shows the company
produces less than its minimum cash requirement, the company will need to borrow money. If its
cash flow is monitored monthly rather than quarterly or semiannually, a company can react to
problems more quickly. If it appears that budgeted amounts could be significantly different from the
past statements, then further attention should be given to the budget. Some factors affecting the
budget may have been overlooked or past statement relationships may no longer be applicable, due
to unnoticed changes. (White, 1997)
However it is not only companies who benefit from constructing a cash budget. For individuals, a
cash budget is a good method of determining where your cash is regularly being spent. This is

John F Kennedy Ich Bin Ein Berliner Analysis
On June 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy gave what is considered one of the most recognized and
poignant speeches of his career, and in the history of the cold war. The speech was named Ich
bin ein Berliner translated into I am a Berliner and was given at a time in history when
communism was trying to take hold across the globe. The division of Germany into the
communist East Germany and the democratic West Germany was a constant reminder of
communism s threat to freedom. Kennedy s speech, given in Democratic West Berlin, Germany,
brought together the free world as hundreds of thousands of people around the world were able
see first hand what communism did to people who were once free. The Berlin wall was built by
the Soviets in August 1961 and separated Communist East Berlin from Democratic West Berlin.
It was built as a way to prevent people in East Berlin from escaping to West Berlin. People in
East Berlin were experiencing their economy decreasing under Communism, whereas West Berlin
was experiencing economic growth. Several year s earlier the Soviet Union s leader Leonid
Khrushchev had wanted to sign a treaty saying no one from East Berlin could flee over to West
Berlin to be free. Khrushchev used the Soviet s nuclear bombs as threats and Kennedy told

Could Napoleon Dynamite Have Asperger s
It was hard for me to watch this movie and separate Napoleon s behaviors from his friends and
family members. Many of the things he does and says are like those of the people around him.
His overall weirdness was not behavior that I immediately would have identified as Asperger s,
rather someone who is simply a little odd. However, as I continued to watch the movie I was
able to find certain examples that could be red flags for Asperger s. From the very beginning of
the movie, it seemed like Napoleon never opened his eyes. They are open just enough to be
squinting, and they are rarely directed to be looking at a person. Asperger s typically come with
poor eye contact in social situations, and Napoleon definitely has this characteristic. Even when
he is talking directly to someone, he doesn t have the comfort level to look them in the eye. The
second thing is that he is very uncoordinated. He is able to play tetherball, but just barely because
he hits it with different amounts of power and so is constantly jumping out of the way. When he
goes out to feed Tina the llama, he is awkward about getting the food through the fence to her,
and then flings it on the ground in front of her with his fork. He also has an awkward walk that
gets especially odd when he runs and is very uncoordinated. The third characteristic that is typical
of people with Asperger s is a lack of interest in the feelings and emotions of others. Napoleon
makes comments to people that most of us wouldn t

Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine History
Prince William Forest Park YM Sgt. John Williams Date Established: November 14 1936
Location: Prince William County, Virginia Landmarks: Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine, One day a
Baltimore man named John Detrick was hiking along Quantico Creek during which near the
meeting of the North and South Forks, he noticed something gleaming in the water. It was
Pyrite, known commonly as fool s gold and Iron Sulfide. One of the great ironies of this area
was that Pyrite would prove more profitable than the real gold found in the Greenwood Gold
Mine. The Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine began operations in 1889. The large number of patents in
the mid nineteenth century and industrial growth after the Civil War made pyrite profitable.
Sulfur was a necessary ingredient in several household products such as soap, textiles, paper, and
fertilizer. When World War I began, the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine contributed to the production
of gunpowder. After World War I, the price of pyrite dropped. Nationwide, in many industries,
workers struck. While there is no evidence of union activity, workers at the Cabin Branch Mine
started to strike in 1920. They demanded a 50 cent raise. By this time, cheaper sources of sulfur
were found overseas. The mine closed later that year Greenwood Gold mine, The Greenwood gold

charity was left to the Anglican Church, then recognized as the official church of the state. This
status ended in 1785 with Virginia s Statute for Religious Freedom. The commonwealth s
government insisted that counties make a centralized place to care for the poor, rather than
providing door to door relief. The government appointed Overseers of the Poor, who in turn

The battle of African Americans for more noteworthy parts in North American military clashes
traverses four centuries. Open doors for African American support in the U.S. military were
continuously extremely constrained and dubious. Shares, avoidance, and racial segregation were
based on the common disposition in the United States, especially with respect to the U.S. military,
that African Americans did not have the scholarly limit, fitness, and aptitudes to be fruitful
contenders. Political weight applied by the dark press, social equality bunches, verifiably dark

them a fabulous case of the battle by African Americans to serve in the United States military. In
the mid 1940s, key pioneers inside the United States Army Air Corps (Army Air Forces) did not
trust that African Americans had the scholarly ability to wind up effective military

Devil in a Blue Dress Rhetorical Analysis Novel vs. Film...
Devil in a Blue Dress: Novel vs. Film The hardboiled mystery novel, Devil in a Blue Dress, by
Walter Mosley was first published in 1990 and was acknowledged by former U.S. President, Bill
Clinton, as one of his many favorite novelists (Easy Writer). Taking place in post war Los
Angeles, the story is narrated by an African American laborer, Easy Rawlins, who is transformed
into an L.A. detective after being pulled in to the affairs of local townspeople. The successful novel
continued onto screen adaptation in 1995 and was directed by Carl Franklin and starred Denzel

In addition to the differences seen through Easy s point of view, there are also several
differences in how the author and director utilize certain effects to obtain a dark tone. The screen
adaptation paid homage to the dark tone perceived in the novel through lighting and a voiceover
narration from Easy. Several scenes in the movie appear to have darker lighting than others.
This effect allows viewers to feel the mysterious and secretive mood that is intended. In the
scene where Easy visits John s nightclub the lighting in the movie portrays the room as very
dark and musty. The room itself is very enclosed and secretive since the owner, John, was into
the speakeasy business before Prohibition was repealed. The nightclub itself is for the black
community and has a very low key reputation. To show the secretive, mysterious reputation of the
nightclub, Franklin shoots the scene with little to no lighting (Devil in a Blue Dress Movie
1995). Throughout the film the audience is led through Easy s point of view, which is heard
through his voiceover narration. According to a movie review by Edwin Jahiel, Washington s
voice is rather too sweet, lacks the tough staccato... . Again, we see actors blocking take effect as
Washington attempts to live up to his typical role as the good guy . The movie takes a much
different approach towards Easy s character, which results in a smooth, legato narration. His short,

Cultural
Culture plays a large role within society and the business environment of Portugal when compared
to a country like the U.S. This is of important concern when considering doing business in Portugal
and the ability to conform to society. The Portuguese are conservative, traditional, and are people
who hold formality when dealing with one another, which is shown through the form of politeness.
Their culture respects hierarchy for example business and society are vertically structured.
Investing time in building relationships and trust with business colleagues is a very important part
of their business culture along with communication. They also have a more relaxed attitude towards
time and do not see deadlines as crucial as people from many other cultures do which could possible

always relevant when doing business in foreign countries. Considering Portugal is part of the EU

The Oil And Natural Gas
Everyday oil and natural gas is being found in new areas and being sought after by companies
who want to drill for and use those resources. More often than not these resources are under land
already owned by someone else so the companies must come to an agreement with the landowner
in order to get permission to drill for the oil and natural gas. Oil and gas are valuable commodities
for landowners and can mean an extra income. Instead of selling the land and completely giving up
their stake in the potential fortune most owners decide to negotiate a leasewith the company in
which both parties benefit from the resources.

A landman (or woman) is a person whose job it is to secure leases on as large an area as possible
and they are either employed by oil and gas companies or work independently. Because these men
and women are professionals and are trained in the art of making sells using all possible tactics, it
is usually advised that landowners seek an attorney or some type of professional to assist in the

A lease in this context is a legal document or contract between a landowner who is the lessor and
a company (or individual) who is the lessee that grants the lessee rights to exploration and
development rights to potential subsurface mineral commodities. Today there is no standard oil
and gas lease form. At one point the Producers 88 form was considered the standard form but
today various oil and gas companies utilized several different types of lease forms as their starting
point for negotiations. Generally their are two broad types of oil and gas lease forms based on the
timing of the lease bonus payments. The most commonly used type is the Pay Up lease which no
bonus payments are due after the signing of the lease, instead the lessor gets one hundred percent of
the lease bonus money combined with annual rental payments up front. The other type is the Rental
Lease that is not as commonly used in which the lease, can lapse if the rentals are not paid in a

Reflection Paper On My Diet
Summary I had such an unhealthy diet before but my diet has changed since I made a few plans
for the Journal #1. And I was pretty good to keep it until when I just finished the Journal #2.
Most of them are going pretty well still now too but recently I have something wrong on my diet
again. Even if I did not plan such a big thing, to keep everything that I planned was a little
difficult because I had been having the unhealthy diet for a pretty long time which means it
takes time to change my old habits. I just realized that I am getting to return to my old habit and
I have to plan again to improve it. Challenges I realized that I am getting to return to my old diet
habits and I was thinking about what cause that. And I think the reason could be my schedule of
the school because I realized that I usually take food at home or school and I do not take an
instant food at home anymore. It means the school is the only place that I take food except for
home. One of my challenges that I made was that taking a breakfast and I still keep that because
I could buy homemade Korean food that composed of a light soup with a few side dishes which
are very healthy food for every week. But at the school, I always have two classes that from 8 or
9 a.m. to around 3 or 4 p.m. during the weekdays and I should take a lunch at school. But, in the
school I do not have many choices for food. So, I just take food for satiety and I cannot digest

The Dawes Act Of 1887
Indigenous peoples of the United States have been persecuted against since the birth of the nation.
As years progressed, the Indians were stripped of their identity and exposed to the realities of the
American lifestyle a lifestyle that failed to coincide with the traditions and culture they possessed
years prior to the influx of Americans into western territory. As desire for this territory increased
due to economic ventures, and the ultimate desire to expand due to Manifest Destiny, measures
needed to be taken to ensure the land was to be in full possession of the government. Thus, the
Dawes Act was enacted in 1887, which allotted new lands to Indians in exchange for American
citizenship. While its promise could be construed as a generous gesture by the government, the act
in reality was nothing but a gesture; it was a burden. Therefore, the Dawes Act of 1887, along with
other attempts of Indian assimilation, threatened family ties and culture, stripped them of sacred
lands, and proved that citizenship came with a fatal denunciation of their culture. The Dawes Act
not only impacted the current inhabitants of the indigenous lands, it also affected the future
generation of Indians; since the culture was being readjusted to be acceptable for American
standards. On the new lands granted to the Indians were private government run boarding schools
in order to successfully assimilate children of the native population into society. In Document F, the

The As A Verb From The Saxon Language And Means

Over the years, as I have studied about Paganism and the different paths that came forth, I have
always had this feeling that when saying the term, So Mote it Be at the end of a ritual or spell,
was kind of like saying Amen . While I felt the two terms had a connections, I always felt that So
Mote it Be was a term that felt more familiar, that I had been saying it forever. With the term
having a similar meaning to Amen , it feels more grounded to me. Like saying it sends it out to the
four corners of the universe, and from there the universe can take what I have asked and use it as it
so pleases.
In today s modern Pagan and Wiccan society, the term is used abundantly. As I was researching
this term, I was shocked to find out that the Freemasons use So Mote it Be in their own rituals,
and the society of Freemasons, are a Christian group, but using a Pagan term. Or a term more

Similarities Between Wwi And WWII
World War I and World War II, costed many nations hundreds of thousands of lives. The wars are
like feeling angry about losing a game, useless and unfortunate. Although WWI and WWII
happened at completely different times, they consist of several similarities, as in who fought and
why, as well as differences, such as how the U.S. joined and why, and the weapons they used.
World War I(WWI), took place over a span of a few years causing many deaths. WWI occurred
from 1914 to 1919, and started due to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (Staff, 2016).
Many factors played into the starting of this war. Poor communication caused a lot of problems
during the first world war. Battles would start without the proper equipment or number of troop. ...

Mexican War Justified
The Mexican War: Justified or Unjustified?
The Mexican War, or as it was called in Mexico, the American Invasion, was a very controversial
event. Before the Mexican War, people from the US began moving to Texas. Texas was a disputed
territory, as neither country agreed on who owned it. Mexico said they owned, while the US said
that they did. There are many reasons to argue that the Mexican War should/should not have been
started. The Mexican War should not have been started because US settlers in Texasbroke Mexican
law, the US invaded Mexico, and the countries had mixed up borders.
Before the Mexican War started, both the US and Mexico had mixed up borders. Mexico thought

country really owned Texas. Mexico had the Nueces River as their border, while the US thought

in their own land, nor could they know if they were invading another land. The Mexican

shows the US was not justified in going to war because the borders were mixed up. The US

Women s Sport Coverage
Women s Sport Coverage is Decreasing We are the best in the world, have three World Cup
championships, four Olympic championships, and the men get paid more to just show up
compared to how much we get paid to win major championships, says Hope Solo (American
Goalkeeper). In the 1920 s the issue of broadcasting, promoting, and displaying women s sport
equal to men was brought about. Gertrude Ederle, a competitive american swimmer in 1926
became the first womanto swim the English Channel, while also breaking the malerecord. She is

Women sacrifice as much as men, for example after giving birth they make impressive efforts to
come back to competitive levels while men have not been said to make any of these such efforts.
This leads to another point on how women actually have the ability to do things most men can t.
For example, men don t have the proper body types to perform in figure skating, synchronized
swimming, or gymnastics like women can. The competitiveness is the same. The quality and skill
levels are the same. Different, of course, but not inferior in any way (Ottoway). Even if a female
was better than a male at a certain sport they would still be treated as inferior. For example a
female hockey player, Rachel Fradette states, even if I was a better athlete than the male hockey
players, my team still got the worse ice time and treated as almost a joke when we
practiced...women not only have to fight for their stance, but they also have to be the absolute
best at their craft (Fradette). When girls get treated this way they then start to lose the love of
the sport which leads to less and less role models and less successful female athletes. These
female athlete role models are important for future generations as girls decide to also become
athletes they want someone to look up to and learn from and realize to not give up even if they are

Why I Decided to Not Go on the Trip It was actually a pretty simple decision. I woke up the

muffled giggles and outright laughing. The sounds blended and the wailing started again. I
looked around frantically at all the delighted faces. My eyes finally stopped on the steel desk

Geologist who have studied geothermal energy uses the sonar, heat ray and satellite imagery to
determine where are most of the geothermal activity going on. They still have to be careful to dig
underground to find the perfect heat and water to build their power plant. There are four main kinds
of geothermal resources; they are hydrothermal, Geo pressured, hot dry rock and magma. The most
common use is the hydrothermal resource. Hydrothermal resources have a common ingredient of
water and heat. This geothermal reservoir of steam or hot water occur naturally were magma comes
close enough to the surface to heat the ground. Water circulates at great depth along the faults.
Hydrothermal resources are used for many different energy purposes depending on the temperature.
When low temperature occurs, it is a direct use for heating. The other kinds are the high
temperature it produce electricity. When temperature of geothermal energy occurs around 104.444

I think that is was a great effect on the cinematography side and a great way to set the mood for
the movie. At one point, the camera moved from the viewpoint of in front of a building in the
center of the communities out to a view of all the communities as a whole. By doing this, the
viewer saw that all the building and all the dwellings , or houses, were like a mirror image of
each other. Everything seemed to be symmetrical. And this just goes along with the theme of the
movie perfectly. Everyone is the same. Everything is the same. The color palette that is used
also ties into the theme very well. The beginning of the movie is in all black and white. This is
what the members of the community see. The Elders have not only taken away freedom, they
have also taken away color. Once Jonas learns about each color, it is brought back to the movie.
I think this idea was brilliant. It puts the view in the eyes of Jonas and his transition to being an
ordinary human . Coincidentally, the phrase ordinary human is also the name of the featured
song in the movie. This brings me to the score of the overall movie. I really enjoyed each piece
of music that was used for this movie. Each and every time there was music, it really set the mood
for the setting. The time the music really stuck out to me was during the Ceremony of the
Graduates . While Jonas is standing on the stage waiting for his name to be called, the music made
me feel the anticipation. It was upbeat, then slow, then upbeat again and I feel like I was going

Reformulating the Hazards Mitigation Paradigm Essay
Scholarly assessments of our nation s capability to effectively respond to hazards suggest a
paradigm shift is needed regarding the future direction of research, policy and tactics for preparing
and responding to natural and human made hazards. This paper will provide a historical overview
of our nation s emergency preparedness and response posture, examine the need to reformulate the
existing hazards paradigm into a broader resiliency framework, and suggest roles and
responsibilities characteristic of government and community stakeholders in the context of this
broadened approach. Mechanisms needed to achieve a successful implementation of this improved
strategy will also be examined.

An effort to centralize federal emergency functions was instituted in 1979 where many separate
disaster related responsibilities were merged into the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA). FEMA developed an integrated emergency management system, realigning its mission
from civil defense into disaster relief, recovery and mitigation programs using an all hazards
approach. Following the terrorist attacks of 2001, FEMA coordinated its activities with the newly
formed Office of Homeland Security by joining 22 other federal agencies, programs and offices
which became the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2003 (Federal Emergency
Management Agency, 2010).
Despite efforts to better organize federal response programs, expectations regarding improved
federal response to natural disasters were shattered by FEMA s poor performance in dealing with
hurricanes (Waugh Tierney, 2007, p.33). While integrating FEMA into DHS was intended to the
federal response capability, DHS was found to be plagued by high employee turnover and low
morale to the degree Homeland Security had the lowest job satisfaction rating out of 36
government agencies surveyed; DHS instituted an ineffective and oft misunderstood color coded
threat warning system; DHS response to Hurricane Katrina exposed a lack of coordination and
leadership; and, the agency s integration of people, assets and technology into one overarching
entity has proved complicated and overwhelming (Fessler, 2008). Such

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Crime Essay
This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of sociological explanations of crimes with
links to Durkheim s anomie theory, Merton s strain theory and the Labelling theory which will
draw upon different academics that will highlight these specific areas of research. In sociological
terms, crime is a social concept as it does not exist as an autonomous entity, but it is socially
constructed by people. It can be analysed that sociological explanations of crimeattribute deviance
to various aspects of the social environment. For example, crime is strongly related to modern city
life where this type of social environment creates cultural enclaves which results in producing
criminal or deviant behaviour (Carrabine et al, 2014).
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Merton was influenced over his work and continued to develop the concept of
anomie in his work relating to the social upheaval that occurred in USA (Burke, 2005, p.99). Smith
also argues that the following insights in criminology do have their origins in Durkheim s work as
deviance is, in part, the product of weak moral integration and poor social regulation and that social
change, such as the transition to modernity, can often generate anomie and with this an increase in
the levels of crime. (2008)
However, an underlying weakness of Durkheim is that his theory basically assumes individuals
do not have a choice over their actions as their lives are predestined because of the social
conditions in which they live in (Burke, 2005, p.127). This implies that there is no scientific
evidence and therefore impossible to locate any acceptable mechanism to explain social change
which has led to his work being dismissed methodically (Ronald, 1991). Therefore, Merton s
theory is not just denying any reason for social change, but it could create the assumption that
deviance behaviour is more common in lower class where individuals live in poor social
environments so are ultimately prone to take the path of crime.
Merton further developed the concept of anomie to describe an imbalance between cultural goals
and institutionalised means. He believed that anomie was the result from the absence of alignment
between people s socially desired aspirations, such as

They go on to say that corporate control and the desire to reach a wider and Whiter audience has
led rap away from overtly antiracist sentiments. Although hip hop artists have always been
diverse and self critical (Ogbar,1999) With all major recording labels being owned by white

When it comes to rappers, crime is so normal because they portray themselves as gangsta throughout

Nineteen Days That Unexpectedly Changed America
10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America
Summer Reading Test On December 3, 1901, a few months after the death of President William
McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt addressed the United States. He said, Indeed, from every quarter of
the civilized world we received, at the time of the President s death, assurances of such grief and
regard as to touch the hearts of our people. In the midst of our affliction we reverently thank the
Almighty that we are at peace with the nations of mankind; and we firmly intend that our policy
shall be such as to continue unbroken these international relations of mutual respect and good will.
While the death of President McKinley was indeed an important moment in United States history, it
became more important because of what it led up to. While all of the dates studied in 10 Days that
Unexpectedly Changed America, by Steven M. Gillon are obviously important, some seem more
important than others. In this student s opinion, September 6, 1901 seems to have a bigger
influence on American History than, say, September 9, 1956. While History progressed in an
important way during Elvis s dancing on the Ed Sullivan show, the assassination of a United States
President and the installation of the president after him seems to hold more value. According to
Gillon, President William McKinley was the most popular president since Abraham Lincoln. He

Filing Systems May Not Be Electronic Or Manual
Filing systems may either be electronic or manual. An organisation will probably utilise a
combination of both systems, choosing the most suitable arrangement for the data that is to be
stored. Regardless of the type of system adopted, it should be effective and efficient, accessible,
accurate, reliable and user friendly. In a school setting, both electronic and manual filing
systems are used on a daily basis. To give an example; A manual filing system is used to store
individual pupil s confidential information. Each pupil has their own file; this is filed
alphabetically and held in a filing cabinet in the school office. The child s file contains
confidential information such as date of birth, address, family history and medical details. This
filing cabinet is kept locked at all times to ensure that children s information is protected and
respected and only available for viewing by authorised staff. An electronic filing system is used to
record the school s financial transactions. This is a very thorough and rigorous method for storing
such important details. The system generates orders; payments and reports that enable the head
teacher and school business manager to monitor spend and control budgets. This system is only
accessible to the school business manager and access is protected by a password. Filing systems
may be used to store information that is readily available to anyone to browse, such as telephone
numbers of schools within the local education authority.

Millions of people around the world indulge in foods and drinks containing the leading artificial

conducted to determine the possible health effects it may have. Aspartame includes two ingredients:
aspartic acid and phenylalanine. Both are naturally occurring amino acids that are produced by our

Therefore, overweight individuals who choose to consume artificial sweeteners can prevent weight
gain. Furthermore, when artificially sweetened beverages were compared to water in a short term
weight loss program, subjects consuming artificially sweetened beverages actually lost significantly
more weight and reported considerably less feelings of hunger (Peters et al., 2014). Thus, the
increased satisfaction obtained from consuming a sweet beverage can lead to reduced overall
caloric intake. Finally, researchers Pandurangan, Park, and Kim (2014) studied the impact of
aspartame on adipogenesis, or the formation of fatty tissue. When adipocytes were treated with
aspartame, there was significantly reduced lipid accumulation as well as down regulation of
chemical receptors critical for adipogenesis. Therefore, this information suggests that aspartame
may be a potent substance to alter adipocyte differentiation and control obesity (Pandurangan, Park,
Kim, 2014). So, not only does consuming aspartame behaviorally help with adherence to weight
loss programs, but also is chemically proven to control obesity. Besides weight maintenance
benefits, there are other health benefits to consider. Aspartame sweetened drinks present a sweet

Jason Bivins Jazz And Religion Summary
In his eye opening book, Jason Bivins analyzes the connection that jazz music has with American
religion. Not many scholars have decided to address this area religious studies.
He conducts interviews with multiple musicians, in an effort to grasp what level of impact that
their religion or spirituality had on their work.
He pushes for the need of religious experience to understanding jazz, while, at the same time,
attempts to show that jazz can serve as a catalyst for fresh interpretations to American religion.
Scholars of religion have begun to place a greater emphasis on the senses, particularly vision and
hearing
He lays out his case in eight chapters, which equally divide the book s main content into two parts.

Eventually, he begins to pivot to the influence of the other faiths. For example, Islam gave black
jazz artists another way to find their subjectivity. Much of the Islamic jazz artists can be attributed

In chapter 3, he focuses on how jazz is able to create narratives for American religion. He said that
the retellings of jazz employ strategies of evasion designed to counter attempts to control and
commodify jazz and religion alike... (Bivins, pg. 84).
In chapter four, he focuses on jazz communitarianism. Even in the participation of counter

the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) who were able to foster

Americans suffered many economic, social, and political problems in the post Civil War era. I

important during the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the
biggest impacts on Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue
that I feel greatly affected America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest
political issues, to me, is the Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a
major issue because it made Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the

Japan is one of the few countries that support the practice whaling. For decades, the country has
continued to maintain its right to whale and shown aggressively lobbying with the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) for reconsideration of commercial whaling. Commercial whaling is a
practice that involves the hunting and killing whales for their oil meat, or whalebone. With their
pro stance on whaling, Japan has faced strong international criticism especially from
environmentalists and Western governments, which view Japan as obstructing international efforts
to protect these mammals. This paper will argue that Japan should not be forced to remove the
practice of commercial whaling in order to satisfy the international views. This is because... Show

Even with the court ruled decision by the IWC, the opponents felt that it was not as decisive as
they would have hoped for. The IWC has defended most of Japan s whaling insisting to those
that oppose that the research is solely for research implying that the majority of whales killed by
Japan are taken in an internationally designated haven, which Japan has chosen to ignore
(MacKenzie). The idea of the Whale Wars is likely to continue by animal rights activist and anti
whaling governments. The United Nation s International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled that
Japan s scientific research program JARPA II was not what it was suppose to be. This ruling has
also barred Japan from whaling in the Antarctic (MacKenzie). This ruling momentarily stopped
Japan vessels from whaling. In June of 2014, the Prime Minister in Japan Shinzo Abe, showed
defiance of the International Courts ruling as he was quoted in say to aim for resumption of
commercial whaling by conducting whaling research in order to obtain scientific date
indispensable for the management of whale, which is essentially saying Japan will continue to kill
whales until it is proven that it is okay to kill whales (Hays). The statements made by the Prime
Minister were viewed as disappointment. Greenpeace

The Need to Psychological Egoism in Life
I have always looked at myself as an unselfish person with a good sense of empathy towards my
friends and other people. I have always thought about egoism as something solely negative. That
was before I knew the true meaning and concept of the word. Now I am no longer so sure; is it
possible to be an absolute altruist? Is it possible to keep going on an absolute altruistic line of life
without any egoistic subsidiary interference?
Psychological egoism is a human beings factual motivation in life. Psychological egoism builds
around that our intended actions are always controlled by our own interests, wishes and motives.
We are motivated by a wish to accomplish a sort of self fulfillment, meaning that our actions in
all aspects of our lives (from buying a sandwich because we are hungry, to studying for an exam
to get a good grade) are all done because it is for our own beneficial interests, wishes and motives.
The definition for ethical egoism is basically how we ought to act . Ethical egoism builds itself
around the idea that the best way to promote collective reimbursement, is to follow self interests.
By always striving for our own personal self fulfillment a person will better be able to promote
what is in the best interest of the community, more so than always striving to promote the
community s interests. A person is able to hold a sociable role that supports the general public by
taking care of his or her own well being and self interest first. The relationship

Examples Of Funny Memories With Anton
Funny memories with Anton (True Story)
By Richard Nata
My best friend named Antonius, we used to call him by the name of Anton. Anton, I ll always
remember funny stories with you.
No day without laughing while studying together Anton. We both had some physical similarity,
namely Chinese, handsome, thin, short, bespectacled and love to make people laugh. We fell
together because there was an oil spill on the road so that the motorcycle was driven Anton fell on
the road. When falling, we feel like the riders are being dropped in circuit racing. Our downfall on
the road no less intense with the fall of Valentino Rossion the racing circuit. People shout to see us
fall.
They ran away to our place. We wake up and said, It s okay, everything... Show more content on

So, we went home before the game ended.
The next day, Anton told me, yesterday really happen real fights between the participants of the
game. I really regret not being able to see a real fight. I can only imagine the fight was like a story
in the movie The Karate Kid.
When did I ask how the end results? Anton tells if they won the game. But after the game is
finished, then their Dojo fight with others Dojo elsewhere.
The question now is if I and Anton still there, whether both of us will be beaten like in the movie
The Karate Kid? Due to the shots of the two of us which caused the match to be the hot
atmosphere. I also do not know the answer. :)
There are still a lot of stories about me and Anton is not told here due to the limited number of
words. To date I will never forget has had a friend named Antonius because we have experienced no
day without laughing while still in college with him.
Anton now lives and works in Sydney, Australia. While I lived in Tangerang, Indonesia.

Comment on the Trend and the Size of Poverty in Hong Kong...
8. Comment on the trend and the size of poverty in Hong Kong society. To what extent do you
consider the present Social Security system would be effective to alleviate poverty in Hong Kong?
Introduction In such a cosmopolitan city as Hong Kong, it is not uncommon to see a number of
affluent parents spending a large sum of money on their children, ranging from joining calligraphic
class to extra physics tutorial lessons, and from buying the most updated mobile phones for them to
sending them to overseas schools. This practice is even becoming increasingly popular due to the
economic boom in recent years. By contrast, despite the seemingly prosperity of this city, there still

вћў Social assistance Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) To date, CSSA is
regarded as the mainstay of the social security system in Hong Kong, occupying 50% of the total
social welfare expenditure (Tsoi, 2002). It is developed from the Public Assistance Scheme. The
aim of CSSA is to bring the income of needy individuals and families up to a prescribed level to
meet their basic and special needs. It provides a safety net for those who cannot support
themselves financially. (Social Welfare Department 1998) It is a non contributory and means
tested scheme. Its target groups are elderly people, low earning group, unemployed and single
parent family. Statistics has shown that most of the recipients of CSSA are the elderly, which
accounts for 50.7% in 2004 with the average growth of 7.1% per year, followed by the group of
low income population (28.8%). (Census and Statistics Department, July 2005). There are totally
three major types of benefits provided by CSSA. Concerning standard rates, generally the basic
rules are that the rates for children and seniors are higher than those of the adults, rates for single
individuals living alone are higher than those for family members. As for supplements, they are
used to help single parents and recipients to cover expenses in raising the children up and for
replacement of household goods respectively. Finally, special grants are

In opposition to the two stories recounting King Midas wretchedness, the two stories give the
Golden Touch an alternate undertone. By telling the whole backstory and determination, the short
story considered a more positive undertone. This conflicted with the sonnet s all the more
premonition and discouraging state of mind. All through the whole story, the ruler was upbeat
about his fortune and girl. He was so devoured by his need for gold that there was no space for
distress or torment. So as long as he had his kid and room of gold, there was nothing for him to

Essay Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
How would you feel for doing something incredible but not receiving a reward? Becoming a
professional is every athlete s dream. Professional athletes, for instance, Lionel Messi is paid over
$2.2 million every month. Professional athletes earn millions of dollars, whereas, college athletes
play their sport with their heart and soul, but they don t get paid at all. I believe that collegeathletes
should be paid because they work as hard as professional athletes, they need to take care of
themselves and college athletes need to be looked at for their hard work.
Firstly, college athletes work as hard as professional athletes. They practice and train to win each
game they play. They are sacrificing themselves at a chance to play the game they love. Both
college athletes and professional athletes play their game with heart and soul. Pros get paid to
represent their team and bring fame to that team. Why can t college athletes get paid the ... Show

College athletes have two things to take care of; their school and their team, however,
professionals have one. College athletes have to work really hard because they have games to
play in and have a part time job. If they do get a job, they earn around $11.50 an hour which is
really low because half the time they might leave work with only $11.50 $34.50 to go to
practice. The NCAA earns about 1 billion dollars a year says Maxwell Strachan (a senior editor
of The Huffington Post). They make their money from March Madness, Television, and tickets.
If they do get paid but the athletes don t make it into professionals, they will still have money to
take care of their lives. Every other student will find a way to get paid for example students who
are interested in art will soon try to sell their work, students interested in writing will soon publish
their book and get paid but college athletes put their time and effort for the sport they love but they

Libertarianism And Anti-Landmines
Motorolla, a multinational telecommunication company was involved in selling electronic parts to
mine manufacturers, indirectly contributing to the deaths caused by anti personnel landmines.
Back in January 1996, the news broadcasting Motorola s semiconductor chip being found in a
Chinese made landmine in Cambodia spurred public debate over the company s ethical code of
conduct (HRW, 1997). Anti personnel mines are explosive weapons built to harm and kill enemies,
they are placed just below the grounds to eliminate mass enemies during the war. During that time,
particularly in the USA people were aware of the atrocities produced by anti personnel mines and
the public held various campaigns to combat against it. Despite war having ended, unexploded...

In accordance with consequentialism, their actions are considered to be wrong because of the
atrocities produced by landmines inflict massive harm to the human welfare. One million people
have been killed by exploded landmines(Care, 2003). In fact, a utilitarian would calculate the sum of
all the pleasures that result from Motorola selling its components to the Chinese mine manufacturer
and subtract the suffering that this action has caused anyone involved. Bentham, the father of
utilitarian also wrote, By the principle of utility is meant that principle which approves or
disapproves of every action whatsoever according to the tendency it appears to have augment or
diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in question (Anderson, 2004). Although
Motorola has no intention of inflicting any harm to the third party involved (in this case the citizens
of Cambodia), the reality is that the landmines being planted on the homes of these people
significantly prevents them from living a happy life. It is every individual, whether it is a single
citizen or an organisation to act in ways that will bring benefit to the aggregate utility. For a

Good Country People by Flannery O Connor
Flannery O Connor was a southern belle born in Savannah, Georgia in 1925. She was a Catholic
girl living in the Bible belt of the country. She lived in two different worlds (Meyer, 421); the
fictional world that she created for her stories and her personal life. In her stories, she used
exciting characters so that she could live through them and live an interesting life. She uses her
stories to portray totally unanticipated, but totally plausible things. O Connor s stories present
complex experiences that cannot be tidily summarized; it takes the entire story to suggest the
meanings (Meyer, 426). She uses her characters to show irony, private experiences, fears, and
diverse parallels into her story Good Country People . One of the strongest parallels that I saw in
the story was between O Connor and the character Joy. She was the main protagonist of the
story, written as an unpleasant and lonely woman who has moved home to wait for her
imminent death. O Connor s life was much like Joy s life in many ways. Joy was a young girl in
her thirties, who had to move home because she had a weak heart which kept her from her the
life that she desired. She was not able to teach at a university using her degree in philosophy. She
lived at her childhood home in the country with her mother, reading books all day, every day. O
Connor, who also had to move home because she was getting sick with lupus, could not follow her
life dreams. Lupus can sometimes be confused with a heart

Father In Roseanne
In the 90 s television series, Roseanne, the daily life of the Conner family is follow with a
comedic touch. In it, the ways members the family engage with each other is modeled after a
stereotypical view of the American middle class household. As a result, the show focuses mostly on
the actions and roles the father and mothertake as a part of a family. Using scenes in the first two
episodes, it is possible to analyze what being a mother and father means in America in the modern
era. Dan Conner, the father featured in the show, displays characteristics of what many Americans
believe a father to be. In the first episode, when complaints of the sink being clogged arise, he is
the one expected to fix it, and promises to do so. As most fathers are, the manis seen as the
household handyman. The father is also supposed to relieve any serious issues the children are
faced with. While arguing, one of the daughters cuts their finger, creating panic among the kids.

For the most part, while Roseanne is at home, she is tending to the three kids. In the morning,
she would guide them in getting ready for school by preparing breakfast for them, interrupt
distractions such as talking on the phone, and breaking up arguments the kids would have. In
every case where fighting occurred, the mother was always the one to settle their differences.
These scenes are meant to emphasize the traditional role mothers have in raising and managing
the children of a family. Not only are women supposed to take care of the children, but they also
must keep the father in line. While at work, Roseanne explains how she has molded Dan the way
he is to make sure he is a good husband. In the show, the typical responsibilities of a mother are

Informative Essay On Disneyland

Disneyland
Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth. It is one of the two theme parks built on the
Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California and it s not only in California, it s also in Tokyo,
France and Hong Kong. It opened on July 17, 1955 by the one and only Walter Elias Walt
Disney. Disney was born in Hermosa, Illinois on December 5, 1901 and died on December 15,
1966 at the age of 65. He died of lung cancer that was brought from his lifelong chain smoking. This
amusement park came onto Walt s head after seeing his own two daughters in an amusement park
that was dirty with trash everywhere. After thinking about the filthiness in the amusement park, he
imagined a clean and safe amusement park which is now known as Disneyland. Disney isn t just
only known for being the founder of Disneyland and Walt DisneyWorld, but also for being an
innovated animator who created the famous cartoon character known as Mickey Mouse.
Disneyland takes up 6,964,250 sq feet or 647,000 mВІ. This amusement park was $17 million but

imagineers but as soon as the finishing touches were being added to the attraction, the
imagineers decided to add the Mickey symbols all over the amusement park. Obviously the word
spread and soon it became a tradition and ever since that happened, Disneyland has been getting
people to look for the hidden Mickey s. The symbols are located on almost all of the rides and all
of the avenues. This is a fun activity to do with your family if you end up going to the amusement

Positive Liberty
Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty?
The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin,
focused on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss
amp; Hardy, 2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty.
According to Berlin, negative freedom can be defined as freedom from , that is, freedom from
constraint or interference of others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways:
freedom to , that is the ability to pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self
rule, as opposed to the dependence on others (Cherniss amp; Hardy, 2010). Keeping the idea of
positive liberty at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And are we to presume that if the law doesn t explicitly say we can do something, we are not
allowed to do it? (Keong, 2007).
Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the
state to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to
push through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard
of living, though not everyone is comfortable with the moral hazard this might evoke (Keong,
2007). Key questions asked with this in mind include; if you are guaranteed something, will you be
willing to contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements?
(Keong, 2007; Haworth, 1991).
After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates
surrounding positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the
government should promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about
people expecting the state to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote
positive liberty to maintain order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought
of the government not promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they
like with no consequence which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty,
people can do what

California Air Pollution
Los Angeles has the worst air quality in the nation. In the Los Angeles area an estimated 1,341
people die each year from conditions caused by poor air quality (Danelski, 2016). When compared
to our neighboring cities and counties our death rate is significantly higher. While both local and
state governments have enforced many different regulations to combat air pollution. Point Sources
of Air PollutionA major source of air pollution in Los Angeles is diesel engines. Diesel engines are

California is a hub for transport and agriculture. Last year, The Port of Long Beach unloaded an
estimated 3.8 million TEUS (Twenty foot equivalent unit) (Port of Long Beach). These units were
moved around California and into other states using diesel trucks. These diesel trucks emit high
levels of sulfur, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The second significant point source for air pollution is wildfires. In 2017 alone, there were 7,117
fires across the entire state of California which burned a total of 505,956 acres (CAL FIRE,
2018). Twenty nine of these fires took place in Southern California in December. The Thomas Fire

total of forty days and caused numerous environmental issues.
Wildfires are common in areas with hot and dry weather as well as dry brush. In the United States
alone, ninety percent of wildfires are started by unattended campfires, burning cigarettes, and arson

The Origins Of The American Mafia
INTRODUCTION Since their beginning, American society has been fascinated with the gangster
lifestyle and the American Mafia is no exception to this trend. Mafia themed movies such as
Scarface and Goodfellas have proven to be timeless classics. However, the American Mafia goes
deeper than the media shows. While they do have the same name, the American Mafiais a group of
Italian Americans and is not directly affiliated with the original Sicilian Mafia. The American
Mafia is a highly organized and complex nationwide criminal network with a membership hierarchy
and a strict set of values.
HISTORY
The origin of the American Mafia can be traced back to the late 1800 s and early 1900 s.
Thousands of Italians flocked to America in hopes of better economic opportunities. Between 1880
and 1910, the Italian population in New York alone increased by 2400%, from 20,000 to 500,000.
While the majority of the Italian immigrant were good and law abiding citizens, a minority formed
small neighborhood gangs that would later become one of the largest organized crime gangs in the
United States. During the 1920 s Prohibition era, the 18th Amendment was in full swing and the
manufacture, sale, and distribution of alcohol was strictly banned. The budding American Mafia
took this as a business opportunity and turned to bootlegging. They were incredibly successful at
this and their crime regime also grew to include money laundering, smuggling, and bribing officials.
Meanwhile in Italy, the

  • 2. Lockheed Martin Case 2011 Executive Summary Lockheed Martin is a leading security and defense company based in Bethesda, MD with operations that span the globe. Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert Stevens leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense (A amp;D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase shareholder value. However, recent issues with contract mismanagement and cost overruns involving the government F 35 program leave a negative outlook on their operations. They also face increasing pressure to acquire and retain key employees from a diminishing talent pool. Government budget cuts threaten to hurt revenues, thus making it important for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Efficient buildings, where companies such as Lockheed Martin have converted their buildings to be efficient in saving energy, which is a way to cut costs in a declining economic environment, emphasize stewardship of the environment. Europe has enacted a Clean Sky initiative, which is a large research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport technology. Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R amp;D spending to be fairly high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology. Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending. Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also attempt to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin s secured contract with Israel for future purchase of F 35 s, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased competition is expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become more competitive (Thompson). SWOT Analysis Our SWOT (Appendix 3) focuses on the analysis of all components of Lockheed s business and industry and the importance of these factors weights in the IFAS and EFAS. The IFAS score ... • 3. The Initiation Of 3 D Printing Initiation of 3 D printing took place in end 1980s. Fundamentals of 3 D printing were laid by Japanese Professor. Although he was not able to contribute 100% with his idea, but later on, Mr. Charles Huck carried on with this idea and finally came up with a machine that can create prototypes. Later he also co founded a 3 D manufacturing company that is right now one of the largest 3 D company in the world and contributes a lot to modern era problems. After this initiative, progress on additive manufacturingprocess or 3 D printing got started, and since then, it became one of the most important sector of science, specifically engineering, as it have produced a lot of useful results and have also simplified some lengthy tasks, transforming them into efficient, accurate and cost effective activity. As discussed in introduction about types of 3 D printers and variety of industries where they can be used, explanations regarding these aspects are as follows: i.STEREO LITHOGRAPHY (SLA) ii. FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING iii. SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING (SLS) iv. MULTI JET MODELLING (MJM) v.VFLASH PRINTER vi. FUSED FILAMENT FABRICATION (FFF) OR FUSED DEPOSTION MODELLING (FDM) Fundamentals of all types of printers stated above are same. As prototypes are printed layer by layer, so certain dimensions are required by printers to print that part. It has been nearly six years since their first and only child, Katie, was born, and just over two years since she died. In her four years of life, Katie was plagued with the fatal Tay sachs disease. Because the enzyme needed to rid her brain of fatty materials was absent at birth, she lost her sight when she was only eighteen months old. Her ability to operate the left side of her body was gone several months later. Understandably, the loss of their daughter devastated the young couple. The difficulty of watching their little girl suffer and knowing it was their genetic makeup that caused her pain made it harder to try having another baby. They honestly didn t ... The possibility of predicting not only diseases, but specific traits such as eye color, height, and intelligence levels makes eugenics very possible and much easier to attain. Not only is eugenics ethically incorrect, but it will also have a negative effect on our genetic diversity. Testing embryos for predispositions to certain behavioral tendencies like violence, schizophrenia, alcoholism, or homosexuality could also lead to unfair destruction. Nurture and environment are also factors that constitute behavior, as well as genetics. Once these tests have been performed, there is no guarantee that the results are absolutely written in stone. It is possible to terminate perfectly healthy embryos and unknowingly implant those with the dreaded disease. Also, doctors are unable to predict the true extent of the disease. An embryo diagnosed as positive may develop into a child with less severe symptoms and still be able to lead a somewhat normal and productive life. Some wonder about the defective embryos. Their existence is due only to the chance that two people may have a healthy child, and to destroy them seems cold. Gary D. Hodgen of the Jones Institute has a response to this concern. We don t for a minute pretend an embryo is paper wad, said Mr. Hodgen. We know it s a potential human life (Wheeler A10). A big question being asked by many is who gets the information ... Two days later, he was driving down the freeway on his way home from work. He glanced at a neatly placed billboard of a 2016 Prius with excellent mileage. The car fascinated Viktor. He bought the car right away and traded in his gas chugging truck. Viktor was happy and ready to use the money he will save on a vacation. The ad industry is a necessary evil. This paper will examine how advertisements use marketing strategies to reach the viewer s subconscious. To help prove my point, I will use the 2016 Toyota Prius: Heck on Wheels advertisement. The advertisement starts with what is a content, organized, single, middle aged man, momma s boy, with an indoor job, and drives a Prius singing to a metal beat. The advertisements overall focus is to try to convince the audience that The All New Prius is the new cool. It shows some safety features that come from driving the Prius. • 7. Cash Budgeting Robert Buckman 7/28/10 Using a Cash Budget for Planning Purposes Introduction Let me begin by explaining what a cash budget is. A cash budget is a tool that helps individuals and companies forecast a short term financing needs. Investopedia defines a cash budget as, an estimation of the cash inflows and outflows for a business or individual for a specific period of time. (Cash Budget) A cash budget is used to determine the borrower s ability to generate cash and repay debt. A cash budget also provides an estimate of a company s or an individual s short term cash position. In this paper I will reveal the primary uses of cash budgets, as well as lay out a format for a cash budget, explain which borrowers should prepare a cash budget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banks use cash budgets to determine when customizers are likely to need to borrow and to assure themselves that borrowers will be able to repay the loans. On occasion the bank may want to rework the cash budget and distinguish how unexpected changes in cash flow assumptions change it. So if sales were lower than expected how would the company be doing and are they going to be able to make good on their commitment to the bank. This could enable the bank to uncover financing needs for foreseen by the company. For example when the cash flow shows the company produces less than its minimum cash requirement, the company will need to borrow money. If its cash flow is monitored monthly rather than quarterly or semiannually, a company can react to problems more quickly. If it appears that budgeted amounts could be significantly different from the past statements, then further attention should be given to the budget. Some factors affecting the budget may have been overlooked or past statement relationships may no longer be applicable, due to unnoticed changes. (White, 1997) However it is not only companies who benefit from constructing a cash budget. For individuals, a cash budget is a good method of determining where your cash is regularly being spent. • 8. John F Kennedy Ich Bin Ein Berliner Analysis On June 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy gave what is considered one of the most recognized and poignant speeches of his career, and in the history of the cold war. The speech was named Ich bin ein Berliner translated into I am a Berliner and was given at a time in history when communism was trying to take hold across the globe. The division of Germany into the communist East Germany and the democratic West Germany was a constant reminder of communism s threat to freedom. Kennedy s speech, given in Democratic West Berlin, Germany, brought together the free world as hundreds of thousands of people around the world were able see first hand what communism did to people who were once free. The Berlin wall was built by the Soviets in August 1961 and separated Communist East Berlin from Democratic West Berlin. It was built as a way to prevent people in East Berlin from escaping to West Berlin. People in East Berlin were experiencing their economy decreasing under Communism, whereas West Berlin was experiencing economic growth. Several year s earlier the Soviet Union s leader Leonid Khrushchev had wanted to sign a treaty saying no one from East Berlin could flee over to West Berlin to be free. • 10. Could Napoleon Dynamite Have Asperger s It was hard for me to watch this movie and separate Napoleon s behaviors from his friends and family members. Many of the things he does and says are like those of the people around him. His overall weirdness was not behavior that I immediately would have identified as Asperger s, rather someone who is simply a little odd. However, as I continued to watch the movie I was able to find certain examples that could be red flags for Asperger s. From the very beginning of the movie, it seemed like Napoleon never opened his eyes. They are open just enough to be squinting, and they are rarely directed to be looking at a person. Asperger s typically come with poor eye contact in social situations, and Napoleon definitely has this characteristic. Even when he is talking directly to someone, he doesn t have the comfort level to look them in the eye. The second thing is that he is very uncoordinated. He is able to play tetherball, but just barely because he hits it with different amounts of power and so is constantly jumping out of the way. When he goes out to feed Tina the llama, he is awkward about getting the food through the fence to her, and then flings it on the ground in front of her with his fork. He also has an awkward walk that gets especially odd when he runs and is very uncoordinated. The third characteristic that is typical of people with Asperger s is a lack of interest in the feelings and emotions of others. Napoleon makes comments to people that most of us wouldn t ... • 11. Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine History Prince William Forest Park YM Sgt. John Williams Date Established: November 14 1936 Location: Prince William County, Virginia Landmarks: Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine, One day a Baltimore man named John Detrick was hiking along Quantico Creek during which near the meeting of the North and South Forks, he noticed something gleaming in the water. It was Pyrite, known commonly as fool s gold and Iron Sulfide. One of the great ironies of this area was that Pyrite would prove more profitable than the real gold found in the Greenwood Gold Mine. The Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine began operations in 1889. The large number of patents in the mid nineteenth century and industrial growth after the Civil War made pyrite profitable. Sulfur was a necessary ingredient in several household products such as soap, textiles, paper, and fertilizer. When World War I began, the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine contributed to the production of gunpowder. After World War I, the price of pyrite dropped. Nationwide, in many industries, workers struck. Open doors for African American support in the U.S. military were continuously extremely constrained and dubious. Shares, avoidance, and racial segregation were based on the common disposition in the United States, especially with respect to the U.S. military, that African Americans did not have the scholarly limit, fitness, and aptitudes to be fruitful contenders. Political weight applied by the dark press, social equality bunches, verifiably dark schools and colleges, and others, brought about the development of the Tuskegee Airmen, making them a fabulous case of the battle by African Americans to serve in the United States military. In the mid 1940s, key pioneers inside the United States Army Air Corps (Army Air Forces) did not trust that African Americans had the scholarly ability to wind up effective military pilots.Subsequent to succumbing to the weight applied by social liberties gatherings and dark pioneers, the armed force chose to prepare a little number of African Americanpilot cadets under extraordinary conditions. In addition to the differences seen through Easy s point of view, there are also several differences in how the author and director utilize certain effects to obtain a dark tone. The screen adaptation paid homage to the dark tone perceived in the novel through lighting and a voiceover narration from Easy. Several scenes in the movie appear to have darker lighting than others. This effect allows viewers to feel the mysterious and secretive mood that is intended. In the scene where Easy visits John s nightclub the lighting in the movie portrays the room as very dark and musty. The room itself is very enclosed and secretive since the owner, John, was into the speakeasy business before Prohibition was repealed. The nightclub itself is for the black community and has a very low key reputation. To show the secretive, mysterious reputation of the nightclub, Franklin shoots the scene with little to no lighting (Devil in a Blue Dress Movie 1995). As years progressed, the Indians were stripped of their identity and exposed to the realities of the American lifestyle a lifestyle that failed to coincide with the traditions and culture they possessed years prior to the influx of Americans into western territory. As desire for this territory increased due to economic ventures, and the ultimate desire to expand due to Manifest Destiny, measures needed to be taken to ensure the land was to be in full possession of the government. Thus, the Dawes Act was enacted in 1887, which allotted new lands to Indians in exchange for American citizenship. While its promise could be construed as a generous gesture by the government, the act in reality was nothing but a gesture; it was a burden. Therefore, the Dawes Act of 1887, along with other attempts of Indian assimilation, threatened family ties and culture, stripped them of sacred lands, and proved that citizenship came with a fatal denunciation of their culture. The Dawes Act not only impacted the current inhabitants of the indigenous lands, it also affected the future generation of Indians; since the culture was being readjusted to be acceptable for American standards. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Crime Essay This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of sociological explanations of crimes with links to Durkheim s anomie theory, Merton s strain theory and the Labelling theory which will draw upon different academics that will highlight these specific areas of research. In sociological terms, crime is a social concept as it does not exist as an autonomous entity, but it is socially constructed by people. It can be analysed that sociological explanations of crimeattribute deviance to various aspects of the social environment. For example, crime is strongly related to modern city life where this type of social environment creates cultural enclaves which results in producing criminal or deviant behaviour (Carrabine et al, 2014). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Merton was influenced over his work and continued to develop the concept of anomie in his work relating to the social upheaval that occurred in USA (Burke, 2005, p.99). Smith also argues that the following insights in criminology do have their origins in Durkheim s work as deviance is, in part, the product of weak moral integration and poor social regulation and that social change, such as the transition to modernity, can often generate anomie and with this an increase in the levels of crime. (2008) However, an underlying weakness of Durkheim is that his theory basically assumes individuals do not have a choice over their actions as their lives are predestined because of the social conditions in which they live in (Burke, 2005, p.127). This implies that there is no scientific evidence and therefore impossible to locate any acceptable mechanism to explain social change which has led to his work being dismissed methodically (Ronald, 1991). Therefore, Merton s theory is not just denying any reason for social change, but it could create the assumption that deviance behaviour is more common in lower class where individuals live in poor social environments so are ultimately prone to take the path of crime. Merton further developed the concept of anomie to describe an imbalance between cultural goals and institutionalised means. Regardless of the type of system adopted, it should be effective and efficient, accessible, accurate, reliable and user friendly. In a school setting, both electronic and manual filing systems are used on a daily basis. To give an example; A manual filing system is used to store individual pupil s confidential information. Each pupil has their own file; this is filed alphabetically and held in a filing cabinet in the school office. The child s file contains confidential information such as date of birth, address, family history and medical details. This filing cabinet is kept locked at all times to ensure that children s information is protected and respected and only available for viewing by authorised staff. An electronic filing system is used to record the school s financial transactions. This is a very thorough and rigorous method for storing such important details. The system generates orders; payments and reports that enable the head teacher and school business manager to monitor spend and control budgets. This system is only accessible to the school business manager and access is protected by a password. Filing systems may be used to store information that is readily available to anyone to browse, such as telephone numbers of schools within the local education authority. ... • 31. Haitian Culture Reflection Paper On January 12, 2010, an earthquake of 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated the Haiti island, leaving more than 316,000 dead, 350 injured and more than 1.5 million homeless, according to data provided by Haitian government. Because of this situation many of the Hattians decided to migrate outside their country in the pursuit of a better life with the promise of an American dream. But after 2010, U.S. authorities began to deny them refuge leaving them homeless in the borders of Mexico. Now, more than 4,000 Hattians are living and working in Tijuana. Since the arrival of the Hattians, I felt the need to know more about their life and culture. So I decided to go to one of the many Haitian restaurants that exist today in Tijuana and learn about their culture. Los Haitianos are the name of the restaurant located in the new Haitian neighborhood in the center of the city. When I arrived I felt a little afraid to be the only woman sitting at the table, but after a few minutes I started talking and feel more comfortable. I ordered the typical Haitian food, fried chicken, rice and beans served with a slightly spicy red sauce, by the way was delicious and cheap. Sitting in front of me was a 25 year old Haitian from Puerto Principe. I asked him if he spoke Spanish and he said yes, I told him if I could ask some question about his culture for my communication class and in return I offered to pay for his food. He answered yes of course. So we started to talk about general culture like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the discovery of this substance in 1965, copious studies have been conducted to determine the possible health effects it may have. Aspartame includes two ingredients: aspartic acid and phenylalanine. Both are naturally occurring amino acids that are produced by our bodies and obtained from food. Therefore, overweight individuals who choose to consume artificial sweeteners can prevent weight gain. Furthermore, when artificially sweetened beverages were compared to water in a short term weight loss program, subjects consuming artificially sweetened beverages actually lost significantly more weight and reported considerably less feelings of hunger (Peters et al., 2014). Thus, the increased satisfaction obtained from consuming a sweet beverage can lead to reduced overall caloric intake. Finally, researchers Pandurangan, Park, and Kim (2014) studied the impact of aspartame on adipogenesis, or the formation of fatty tissue. When adipocytes were treated with aspartame, there was significantly reduced lipid accumulation as well as down regulation of chemical receptors critical for adipogenesis. Therefore, this information suggests that aspartame may be a potent substance to alter adipocyte differentiation and control obesity (Pandurangan, Park, Kim, 2014). So, not only does consuming aspartame behaviorally help with adherence to weight loss programs, but also is chemically proven to control obesity. Besides weight maintenance benefits, there are other health benefits to consider. Aspartame sweetened drinks present a sweet alternative for diabetic patients. Research shows that the ... The economic issue that I believe had one of the biggest impacts on Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877.
