Indigenous Struggle For A Life With Dignity

Indigenous Struggle for a Life with Dignity in the Ecuadorian Amazon
In this paper I argue that lawsuit filed against ChevronTexaco for dumping 18 billion gallons of
toxic wastewater, spilling roughly 17 millions gallons of crude oil, and leaving hazardous waste
in hundreds of open pits dug out of the forest floor have affected more than the ecosystem of the
Ecuadorian Amazon. ChevronTexaco has also completely threatened the Ecuadorian indigenous
people s way of life and was able to delegitimize their claim due to the global capitalist system and
lack of epistemic justice. However I also argue in this paper that the indigenous people s struggle
against ChevronTexaco is an exemplification of resistance to the global capitalist system and stands
in solidarity with the global justice movement. Indigenous peoples is a term especially used in the
international context to recognize the existence of ancestral peoples who existed prior to the
formation of modern nation states and whose way of life was, and is, historically denied, outraged
and discriminated against. In September 2007 the United Nations Declaration on the Human Rights
of Indigenous Peoples was signed. This represents a huge discursive change within the international
context when recognizing the importance of indigenous people s livelihoods. Indigenous ethos
versus western ethos is extremely different in how they identify themselves. Indigenous peoples

Analysis Of Francois Hutteau s Great Search For Liberty
Francois Hutteau s great search for Liberty
Hello my French brothers and sisters! Dark times have befallen our precious land, and pure
chaos has ensued. I write to the people in France in hopes of establishing a new land. A land that
can be looked upon proudly with eyes of great virtue. In order to achieve our wildest dreams we
must sort through the rubbish that has landed us here in the first place. How will we as a society
react to the many things that have been dealt to the people of France? Perhaps our great fight
ends in bloodshed, and broken promises. Or perhaps we could take heed of the laws and policies
our fellow Europeans across the Sea. I had the pleasure of visiting one of the cities in America that
the citizens take so much pride in: Boston, Massachusetts. A port town on the North Eastern coast
that was a large part of the American Revolution. It was also home to the Notorious Boston
Massacre. There are a number of things that I enjoyed about my trip, but pointing out the
differences between Boston and France had to be the most delectable part of my trip. The way in
which they practice religion is something to behold. Their new Constitution is also no laughing
matter, and lastly the many things Americans find fun is mesmerizing, and also repulsive. America
is a tremendous place and I cannot wait to guide you through my journey and inferences.
The first voyage I made when I got off the boat was directly towards a church. I decided to visit
the Old North Church and as I approached I noticed that the brick work seemed to glisten in the
sun, and the white interior reminded me of how pure the world can really be. The church
practiced Protestantism, and started soon after the War.[1] I admired the way in which the
citizens praised God, but I did happen to notice that their practices were rather different from my
own. After talking to some of the Americans most had either commented on my accent or
expressed their condolences to the revolution. I also asked them about how they worship and how
they choose to worship. Many of these American citizens were free to choose what they wanted to
worship. Most did say that they would be judged for their religious decisions, but were never
forced into doing

A Reflection On Race
Reflection 3: Race Race is a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by
physical characteristics, such as skin, eyes, and hair. Race is the one thing that surrounds us and
helps form us without even thinking. People don t think twice about judging someone and guessing
their race. It happens naturally now when you first look or meet someone. Racealso is involved with
a variety of values, assumption, and historical meaning. That explains why people who don t
believe in stereotypes can easily recite them. In the 1900s, deciding who was an american and
who was not was a significant thing that was going on. The film states, Whiteness was not just
being a skin color, to be white was to gain the full rewards of american citizenship. In other
words, if you weren t considered white, you lived a struggled life. The ideal thing in the 1900s
was to be considered white because that is when you were able to have the most opportunities
and do something for family. The film also explains that in 1909 courts and legislators would
determine who was white. People started question how the would work out in the sufficient way
but the problem was that different states would consider different things. For example, In Virginia
you were considered black if you had 1/16 of black in you. While in Florida it was 1/8 but Alabama
considered you black if you had any black in you. In other words people could walk across a state
line and change race. Therefore, people question what is the main criteria for being American .
The film states that you would have to gain full rewards of american citizenship to be considered
white and it had to be decided through a judge. This leads to a large amount of flaws. For
instance, in 1915 Leo Frank, a jew in atlanta was pulled from jail and hung for killing a white
girl. People started to question what was white and if a Jew could be considered a white man.
People who were seen as non american were seen as the enemy. They strip them of their civil
liberties and put them in internment camps. This start becoming a problem because what becomes
our country if most people are getting kicked out and killed. The problem was that there was no
exact way to calculate if you were

Illegal Drug Use And Prostitution
Money is often thought of as the root of all evil because it has been proven time and time again
that some people will do anything to get as much as possible. Some of the most profitable
organized crimes are so successful they are international but often rely on harming others to get
ahead. Illegal druguse, human trafficking and prostitutionare three of most lucrative crimes today
generating billions of dollars a year. The money is obtained illegally so the need for money
laundering is essential. Several factors go into each of these issues and some of these issues can
easily be tied to one another. Greed, survival, addiction and emotional needs are just a few factors
that drive the businesses of organized crime. As with any business, money is the fuel that keeps it
going. In many cases illegal drug use, prostitution and money laundering are found to be linked. An
example would be a person turning to prostitution in order to provide the funds necessary to get the
drugs that they needed. Money laundering can also include other sources such as illegally acquired
funds through financial transactions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2013). Issues of illegal drug use,
prostitution, and money laundering will always be a struggling issue in the world of crime.
Americans have had a complicated history with drugs, illegal or otherwise. Up until the early 20th
Century, many substances we now condemn as illegal were, not only legal, but widely used in
products sold to households across

Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Name Of The People
In Bacon s Declaration in the Name of the People , Nathaniel Bacon lists every major offense of
Sir William Berkeley, many of which collide with one another to display how the governor s
actions and inactions built upon each other to create turmoil for the people of Virginia. However,
Berkeley defends himself and proclaims Bacon a traitor in, The Declaration and Remonstrance of
Sir William Berkeleyhis most sacred Majesties Governor and Captain Generall of Virginia . In
order to gainthe king s favor, both men write separate declarations, but one has everything to lose
while the other has everything to gain.
The first of the offenses listed by Bacon is the demanding of unjust taxes which are not being
used to better the colony at least not for the underclass; thus, Berkeley has also been accused of
abusing his power as governor. With the purpose of monetary gain, Bacon applies for a trading
license but is denied by Berkeley and the council, which consists of many of Berkeley s cronies.
This leads Bacon to make the allegation that Berkeley has made a monopoly of the beaver trade
which is true but Berkeley only denied Bacon s request because he knew Bacon wanted more
power and where there is money, there is power.
In the midst of the two men s quarreling, the lower classes of Virginia are demanding land. They
begin to migrate to Indian Territory and are consequently murdered by the Indians. Though there is
an army at his command, Berkeley does not use them against the

Halloween By Diane Arbus Analysis
Masks
In the photograph Halloween by Diane Arbus there are two children dressed up for Halloween in
the foreground. The central figure in this photograph is a child in a cute Mickey Mouse costume.
Based on his height he is most likely around the age of five to six. Despite his appealing costume,
the boy is wearing a scary mask on his face. The mask is a skeleton s face with its mouth and eyes
wide open. Mickey Mouse s face on the boy s costume, is smiling, which is a contradictory
expression to the mask. The boy is standing upright, but putting more pressure on his left side,
allowing him to lean a bit. Both of his hands are raised parallel to his shoulders. His fingers are
curled like he is trying to scare someone. The body language of the boy appears that he ... Show

The little girl is also wearing a Halloween costume. Unlike the boy s cheerful Mickey Mouse
costume, her dress has bats and spider webs on it. There also seems to be a rope on the dress,
meant to look like a bow. Similar to the boy, the girl is also wearing a mask. Instead of a skeleton
s face, her mask looks like a creepy doll s face. The girl is also standing upright to the left of the
boy and a little behind him. It appears that her hands are raised too. Her left hand is hidden
behind the boy, so it is unclear what it is doing. In her right hand she is holding something, but
her fingers are similarly curled, as if she is also trying to scare someone. The way her shoulders
are shrugging makes her appear to also be uncomfortable with her position. By looking at the
background, it appears that the children are in the city. There are buildings lined up all the way
down the street and cars are parallel parked next the sidewalk. Two or three other people are also
walking on the sidewalk. All around where the two children are standing is a lot of trash and
cracks on the ground. Directly behind the children is a break of the buildings and instead a fence.
Up against the fence is where most the trash is

Embryology of anorectal malformations
The hindgut develops into the distal third of the transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon,
rectum, and the upper part of the anal canal. The endoderm of the hindgut also forms the lining of
the bladder and urethra . The terminal part of the hindgut contributes to the posterior region of the
cloaca, the primitive anorectal canal; the allantois merges into the anterior portion, the primitive
urogenital sinus Figure 1(Sadler, 2011). The cloaca is a cavity lined by endoderm and ventrally
covered by surface ectoderm. The boundary lying between the endoderm and the ectoderm forms
the cloacal membrane. A layer of mesoderm called the urorectal septum,

Growth Of Informal Immigrants In The Philippines
One of the most critical issues facing our country is the annual growth of the population of informal
settlers. In 2000, one of the largest censuses of the country was conducted which surveyed
population and housing. Together with statistics from a 2007 census on population, an accurate
representation of informal settlers was formulated. The data from the two censuses showed that the
number of households in the Philippines that are currently occupied by informal settlers reaches an
approximate 600,000, with the highest density of residents being situated in Quezon City (Cruz). A
more alarming fact is that the NCR alone holds 1/3 of the entire population of informal settlers. It s
hard to pinpoint the exact time the very first families considered informal settlers started to migrate
to urban cities, specifically into Metro Manila. There is, however, numerous statistical studies that
show spikes in population number throughout the years. One of the largest spikes in the squatter
population occurred between 1970 to 1980, originating from approximately 283,000 to a whopping
1.6 million (From squatters to informal settlers ). The biggest spike occurred not only during the
reign of the Marcos administration, but after its fall, which caused a major backlash in its attempt
to fix the crisis of informal settling. There are some things that should first be taken into
consideration. Despite the concrete statistics, it s not so easy to just point fingers and directly
accuse the

Castles In The Middle Ages
Castles evolved over the time from the early beginnings of the Middle Ages all the way to the
end of the period. These significant pieces of architecture started out as a simple structures and
eventually turned into something a lot more complex and innovative. The castles were where the
kings and lords lived with their families. Also, a bunch of staff members lived there. They were
needed to carry out all the jobs. The system is called manorialism and it is when peasants and/or
serfs would do work in the lord s estate or castle(Feudalismin Europe). The reasons these castles
were built was to ensure protection to the important people of the time. Most castles in the
Medieval Period included a moat around the perimeter, a keep which was a... Show more content on

They needed to defend their territory. The first real castles they built were motte and bailey
castles. These castles had a large mound, or motte, and then the keep would go on top of that. It
was almost impossible to get up that motte. The other aspect of these special castles was the
bailey. This is where the followers of the lord lived. There were many structures inside the bailey
including stables, storehouses, bakeries, kitchens, houses, and quarters for soldiers ( Castle ). A
wooden fence called the palisade surrounds the building and a ditch called a fosse also surrounds
the bailey. Windsor castle was one of the first motte and bailey castles built in Europe.
Concentric castles had two or three walls that went around the keep. The inside walls were built
even higher than the walls that were on the outside. This meant that the soldiers/defenders were
able to fire arrows over the heads of the soldiers defending the outside walls ( Castle ). There was
also a death hole which was in the middle of two walls which would trap an intruder who entered.
A moat could also be added for extra protection. These two castles were common in that time

The Article Over Population Is Not The Problem `` New...
In the article Over Population Is Not the Problem New York Times. On 13 September 2013, Erle
Elis informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying
capacity. That the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying
capacity is estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s populationstands at around 7
billion. In other words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050,
population will reach 9 billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the
life support that sustains us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so
as our population expands. This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations.
However, there is many ways to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment.
Women s empowerment has four proportions: having control over their own body, education,
radical and monetary.
So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If
so can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy
Coen) There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing
everyone s human rights, especially women s rights. In the Organization Global Population Speak
Out the activists state that gender equality is a very important part in stabilizing global population.
They say how well a society

Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay
In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the
average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting.
Cummings asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality,
then grow into busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live
their lives, and die, still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition,
foreshadowing, and figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he
explains how this lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while
they live their lives in a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community
and individuality. Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each
generation repeats a cycle. For instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names... Show

For instance, Cummings writes that the Women and men (both little and small) who cared for
anyone not at all, sowed their isn t and reaped their same. Both little and small is a metonymy for
all people, which Cummings uses to explain the first problem with the setting, which is how all
the people in it apparently don t care for anyone, except for maybe themselves. Cummings then
uses an extended metaphor to discuss the second problem. Sowed their isn t is a metaphor for the
people raising children, and reaped their same refers to how these children have all been raised to
conform to society so that they all end up the same. So in the end, the setting of Cummings poem is
a town that might look pretty on the surface, but lacks a caring community and stifles creativity with

Chemotherapy Research Papers
Researchers at the Purdue University developed a new technology that simulates chemical process
and reaction of tumors with chemotherapy drugs. It is a possible tool for screening anticancer
drugs before approving them for treatment.
There are many different types of chemotherapy drugs, so clinicians may be able to narrow down
which ones are likely to be more effective than others. Successful drug delivery and overcoming
drug resistance are the primary clinical challenges for management and treatment of cancer. To
address this problem, we developed the tumor microenvironment on chip (T MOC), said Bumsoo
Han, a professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at Purdue University.
The new microfluidic device has a size of 4.5 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study will continue to test other types of cancers, such as pancreatic and prostate cancers.
This confirms T MOC s predictive ability for in vivo drug response. This initial characterization of
T MOC indicates its transformative potential for testing drug effectiveness, said Han.
Drug Resistance Evolution of Cancer Cells
Cancer cells developed methods to avoid anticancer drugs from killing them. These methods can
stop medicinal effects of chemotherapy and even cytotoxic agents that kill any cells
indiscriminately. Bill Murray, a retired major league baseball administrator, diagnosed with
melanoma endured three separated courses of a new class of immunotherapy to treat the disease.
In 2011, Murray was first given a peptide based vaccine and a monoclonal antibody called
nivolumab. Nivolumab targets the programmed cell death protein 1 displayed on the surface of
T cells, a type of lymphocyte white blood cell. PD 1 works as a signal receptor on activated T cells
that packs down T cell activity after detecting its counterpart, PD L1 on the surface of tumor cells.
The nivolumab was intended to block PD L1 and allow Murray s T cells to fight cancer.
Unfortunately, the treatment did not work and Murray had to be given a new antibody called
ipilimumab. It binds cytotoxic T lymphocyte associated protein 4 expressed by PD 1 T cells. The
ipilimumab allowed Murray s immune system via T cell offensive to combat cancer.
But five years later,

Examples Of Lessons In The Chrysalids
Lessons Being Taught in The Chrysalids
Love and faith are both components to survival. In the Chrysalids David loves Rosalind and his
sister Petra and protects them. John Wyndham, the author of the book places this society in a time
after war were mutations are becoming more common so Petra, Rosalind, and David need to run
away to survive or else they will get caught. Also these people in this society are very faithful
(religious) and follow the bible, and if something occurs that the bible does not say then they get
sent to the fringes. The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham teaches valuable lessons about love, survival,
and faith.
The Chrysalids teaches lessons about love. If someone loves another then they will protect them.
For example David ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with people follow the rules until they come across their own challenges. For one thing
Aunt Harriet having another mutation. As she continues to have mutations she gives up and
finally decides she will keep the baby. This shows that she was a good citizen but as she keeps
experiencing heartbreak she then decides to try and break the rules. Also sometimes being too
faithful is wrong. For example when Angus Morton came with the unusually large horses. I don
t believe it ... god never made horses of these size, the government can t have approved them,
(36). This proves that being too religious is bad because these horses were too big but they work
ten times better and faster but eat the same, so the horses being too big would have helped
really well. Another point is that faith makes people not think for themself. For instance David
knows the bible, has studied it for years but when he sees Sophie s extra toe doesn t understand
why it is so bad. This proves that David does not see the harm in an extra toe but the bible does
not say that it is aloud making everyone think it is bad. Therefore faith is a lesson as the main
idea of the book is being different, and that as people continue to be faithful it may be a dangerous

Middle Class In Victorian Society
Representing the middle class in media predates modern entertainment to Victorian times, when
music halls and novels entertained audiences with exaggerations of life. These early reflections
influenced the way television comedies do today. According to Banville (2011), All of these
cultural forms have one thing in common, the goal of representing the livid experiences of
ourselves and others to both ourselves and others (p. 17). Although the medium changed from
music hall to sitcom, being middle classis a shared experience that transcends decades due to the
diverse audience that identifies with the material. Victorians stereotyped lower class men who
attempted to gain wealth or appear wealthy as feminine, therefore unworthy of wealth or royalty
(Banville, 2011, p. 18). They used stereotypes of lower class citizens to protect their way of life,
and perpetuate wealth disparity in England. Stereotypes sustained Victorian music halls and
novels to distinguish the wealthy from the poor, and they used these stereotypes to stifle a class
of people s quality of life. The same stereotypes are the basis for many jokes in present day
comedies such as Everybody Loves Raymond (Banville, 2011, p. 24).
Scharr (2001) argues that, Humorous exchanges are often expressions of power between the joke
teller and the target of the joke, is a well supported notion (p. 25). According to Berger (1987) We
derive pleasures from the feelings of superiority endangered when we observe these

Caged Bird By Maya Angelo
Caged bird by maya Angela
When I read caged bird, i noticed that maya Angelo used metaphors, symbolism and repetition, in
her poem, she used metaphors to give an understanding view on both sides of her topic, and built up
on those two sides with repetition.
I caged bird, right away I noticed when she portrayed a metaphor in the line can seldom see
through/his bars of rage his wings are clipped and/his feet are tied (Angelou, 10 13), I personally
see the meaning of this as, showing when a person is trapped within themselves not able to see
the world in front of them, I also feel that what she is portraying in my point of view is that, you
can never get past something if you keep yourself their, I get this idea from the line can seldom see
through/his bars of rage (Angelou, 10 11) also I feel she s showing what society can do to someone
and how they can slow down their progress when she writes his wings are clipped and/his feet are
tied (Angelou, 12 13)

While creating her metaphorical view I think that she used symbolism as apart of that, I also
believe that the symbolism that she uses in her poem is about the bird, i could recognize that
she might have been using the bird as a person, I especially notice this when she writes a caged
bird stands on a grave of dreams (Angelou, 27)I know that birds don t have ambitions or dreams,
so I used this knowledge to deduce it to being a human, this isn t exactly personification, but
more like giving the bird the ability to be know for its placement in its view of dreams and

Union Membership Decline
The research will analyze the causes of union membership decline in the United States. Throughout
the years unionization has been on the decline and will need to discover new ways to get members
to join. Unions will need to focus on marketing campaigns to gain membership.
Causes for Decline
There can be numerous explanations to why there is a detrimental decline for union memberships.
Some of the major reasons for a decline in union membership include the following:
Globalization: can attribute towards the decline for union memberships, as a competitive
workforce is shrinking and being divided. During the great recession businesses couldn t afford the
high wages and benefit packages of an increasing world economy to stay competitive (Voice...

However, the government has been eliminating most union rights for government workers (Wilson,
2017). President Richard Trumka of the AFL CIO has stated, our struggling economy, weak laws
and government assaults have taken a toll on union memberships (Wilson, 2017).
Laws: are persistent to guarantee employee rights and standards have been protected and addressed
through local, state and federal legislation. Recent anti labor legislation in several states has limited
collective bargaining rights; impact union membership (Anderson Bowen, 2013). Public policy has
hindered union memberships. The first labor laws were written during the Great Depression and
have seldomly changed (Wilson, 2017). Republicans are wanting to do away with union dues to
accelerate union membership but will put pressure on labor unions to collectively bargain in
projects.

The Fall Of The House Of The Usher
Edgar Allen Poe stories are viewed as being supernatural and tragic; however, when given a
closer look there is much more to meet the eye. His stories give the readers an insight of his life
and a more profound meaning than what s on the surfaces. Although Poe was not the social
outcast that Baudelaire conceived him to be, he was, and still is, perhaps the most thoroughly
misunderstood of all American write (Stovall 417). Poe s poems and short stories can be
analyzed in serval different perspectives. Take such as, Poe s The Fall of the House of the Usher

Roderick is following the same path as the Usher s, which they have been doing for many
generations, before him. He had no other choice and through the years was molded to believe
that he should be his own sister s lover. They were raised more of future lovers than as siblings.
The line between lovers and family was never drawn for them, so the family secret also stayed
with their family. The secrets sealed in the direct line of descent (Poe 703). Another key factor
for intermarriage is to keep any property they own in the Usher s name. The family house could
possibly be the last thing that the Usher own. Once the house fall in someone else handles who
knows what could have happened. The house was not in the greatest structures, one flaw being
the crack that ran down the center of the house. That house held everything that was the Usher
and when Roderick and Madeline died the house came down right after them. The tragedy to
love someone, but cannot be with them is the downfall of the Ushers and their history. Roderick
and Madeline are a twisted story of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet with the exact same ending,

Essay on The Labour Government as The Creator Of The...
The Labour Government as The Creator Of The Welfare State A Welfare State is a system in
which the government undertakes responsibility for the well being of its population, through
unemployment insurance, old age pensions and other social security measures. In order to achieve
this the Labour Government of 1945 51 introduced a number of reforms, including the National
Insurance Act of 1946 and the Education Act. They also managed to achieve full employment, a
target never met before in Britain. However, they are not the only reason for the arrival of the
Welfare State. The Liberal Government of 1906 14 also deserves some credit, as well as the
coalition government formed during World War Two,

When Labour took the idea they produced three pieces of legislation. These were the National
Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act of 1946, the National Insurance Act of 1946 and the National
Assistance Act of 1948. The National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act made injuries sustained
in the work place a public matter and set up an insurance scheme, where the worker, employer
and the state paid money weekly, providing insurance against injury. The National Insurance Act
provided, as suggested by Beveridge, a range of benefits to cover the person from birth until
death. The National Assistance Act provided further cover for those who were disabled, old
aged, sick or of any other special needs, acting as a safety net. The problem with this, however,
was that benefits were not set high enough and so National Assistance boards were flooded with
applications for extra benefit, creating great strain on the available funds. To deal with the problem
of disease Labour provided the National Health Service. This was completely thought up by them
and was very successful. It provided free medical assistance of any kind, including eye care, dental
care, hearing facilities, specialists and general practitioners. It is arguably the greatest single
achievement in the story of the Welfare State. Ignorance was dealt with through the

Premenstrual Syndrome Essay
Introduction Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects about half of women who are of reproductive
age, and the global prevalence for PMS is roughly 47.8% with percentages of women affected
varying by country1. Symptoms of PMS are cyclic, occur during the luteal phase, and diminish with
the onset of the menses2. There are more than 200 symptoms that have been associated with PMS,
but the most common symptoms can be categorized into 3 groups: behavioral, psychological, and
physical symptoms. Behavioral symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, change in sexual
interest, food cravings, and/or overeating2. Psychological symptoms include irritability, anger,
depressed mood, crying, anxiety, tension, mood swings, difficulty concentrating,... Show more

Iron is also a crucial part of menses, as it is found in blood, and the menstrual cycle can deplete a
woman s stores. While food sources are the recommended vehicles in which to meet the
recommendations for these vitamins and minerals, supplementation is another way a woman could
ensure she is getting the recommended dose of the aforementioned vitamins and minerals.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of vitamin and mineral supplementation on
reducing PMS symptoms in women between the ages of 20 and 30. Half of the female population
suffers from PMS, while others experience significant symptoms that are not severe enough for a
clinical diagnosis, but occur during the luteal phase and affect daily living. This study is important
because PMS affects many women, and if this study successfully found a supplement or nutrition
prescription that reduced symptoms, women could live life regularly again.
Study Aims and Hypothesis One of the aim of this study is to identify if women with PMS have a
nutritional deficiency that could be an underlying factor in the symptoms they are experiencing.
Another aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of different vitamins and minerals on
reducing symptoms of PMS by testing various vitamin and mineral supplements on

Thucydides And Thucydides History And Warfare
Herodotus and Thucydides were historians who dramatically influenced the way we look at Greek
history and warfare. The two historians approach their stories in completely different ways, which
ultimately leads to different explanations of the origins of conflict. Herodotus focuses on recalling
the origins of the Ionian Revolt, the rise of the Persian Empire, and the Persian Wars with Greece,
while Thucydides writes about the Peloponnesian War. M.I. Finely suggests, in the introduction of
Thucydides book that Thucydides is complementing Herodotus by beginning where Herodotus left
off (Finley, History of the Peloponnesian War p.16). Although these two historians approach the
start of conflicts in different ways, it seems that Thucydides is not suggesting that Herodotus
explanations are wrong. While evaluating conflicts of warfare, Herodotus provides a less bias
perspective than Thucydides, but Thucydides is able to understand the underlying causes of wars
better due to the fact that he is writing about warfare that he was alive for. Thucydides conveniently
opens up his book by explaining his methodology. The Athenian tells the readers that his motivation
for writing the book was ignited by a sense that the war fought between Athens and Spartawould be
important (Thuc. 1.1). The reader should be aware of the biases that Thucydides includes in his
writing, due to the fact that he is an Athenian writing about an Athenian war. Thucydides portrays

This is because the market will likely eventually become too saturated to sustain 3% growth on
the increasing stores base. Also the effects of the short run growth drivers will likely taper off
after some years. In the long run, the company may likely have to close more stores than it
opens to maintain its strong store productivity levels. (2) Given the short run period growth
drivers outlined, especially the impact of the economic recession, store productivity is expected
to increase. We have assumed a ceiling of ~$750 sq.ft; as only very high end boutique apparel
stores have sustained such productivity levels. From 2014, productivity is forecast to decrease
to normal industry average levels of sales of ~$550 $600/Sq.ft. (3) Average Sq.ft/store is
assumed to remain the same over the forecast period. This assumption appears reasonable since
historically the four year CAGR is 0.43%. 3 (4) The same store revenue growth rate provided in
the 10 Q for 2010 is assumed for the shortrun; as the company has proven that it can achieve that.
However, as the stores base increases in the long run, it become harder to sustain this growth rate.
Therefore we have assumed a lower long run rate; more aligned to more mature companies in the
industry. Sensitivity Analysis Upon conducting the sensitivity analysis (see Exhibit 1), we
determined the key factors driving the valuation: п‚· Discount rate п‚· Tax rate п‚·

John Stuart Mill Essay
Majorities tend to prevent any opportunity that a minority group might have to gain support for a
contradicting opinion. It is incredibly easy for members of society to abandon their beliefs in the
midst of an overpowering majority. This process leads to an unequal society in which the rights of
the people are restricted. In the essays, On Libertyand On Representative Government, written by
John Stuart Mill, there is a concern for the tyranny of the majority. He expresses his concern in, On
Liberty, by supporting an increase in individual liberties. It is expressed again in, On Representative
Government, by promoting a true democracy. Mill proposes remedies for combating this tyranny of
the majority, and further discusses the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To counter this notion of monarchy by majority, Mill offers remedy through individual liberties in,
On Liberty.
By increasing the individual liberties of men in a society, you increase their personal freedom of
forming individual opinions. The less restricted a person s thoughts, the more unique their
opinions become. `In proportion to the development of his individuality, each person becomes
more valuable to himself and is, therefore, capable of being more valuable to others (On Liberty
60). To constrain someone s thoughts would result in that person becoming more likely to join
the majority. Allowing someone to think for themselves will help acknowledge the voices of all
the classes of a society. Having said that Individuality is the same thing with development and that
it is only the cultivation of individuality which produces, or can produce, well developed human
beings... (On Liberty 61). Despite their fallibilities, an individual is more likely to know what
would make him happy than someone else would. Therefore, if people develop independence of
judgment and take responsibility for their own happiness, utility will be maximized. I regard utility
as the ultimate appeal on all ethical questions; but it must be utility in the largest sense, grounded
on the permanent interests of man as a progressive being (On Liberty 10). Human progress, best

Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory
While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning
about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the
workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same
job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market;
The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also
had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women
would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so
closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to
organize. Also, they were supervised since that idea appealed to many parents who would send
their daughters to the mills. Some parents would send their daughters to the mills because they
could barely provide for their children. Not many jobs were for women at the time, especially those
that paid a so called good wage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo
Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea
with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of
four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their
mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of
the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St.
Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice.
According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very
well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with
nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public
monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this
explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably
does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that
Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that
the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol.
Also, it is important to mention that at least three

If an embryo was taken and mutated for the bicoid gene; the fly would develop no anterior
structures. It would grow without a head and will eventually die.
It was then found that the three genes that code for the anterior development are bcd, exuperantia
[exu], and swallow [swa]. Studies show that the bcd protein is concentrated at the head end and
gradually decreases in concentration as it extends towards the posterior end of the fly. When the
bcd gene was mutated in an embryo, it resulted in embryos with a second posterior region
developing instead of where the head should have been. In bcd mutant embryos, a duplication of
the posterior telson is seen whereby it completely eradicates the presence of anterior structures.
These mutant flies obviously ceased to survive and are thus considered to be strong

Pros And Cons Of American War In The Philippines
CON #1 As an ally of United States, it is not impossible to create enemies around the world that
would lead to engagement into battles.
The Philippines during 1941 was to the eyes of the Japanese Empire a perfect strategic location for
their campaign of conquest of South Eastern Asia. Not only was it a perfect place to station troops
to launch further assaults on positions like Singapore and Australia. It was also a resource rich
country which would further fuel the Japanese war machine and feed the Japanese people at home.
Though there was a substantial American Force stationed throughout The Philippines at the time, it
was both of the strategic location and resources which governed the Japanese decision to invade the

patches of grass are scattered throughout the desert and there may be a variety of different species
building their habitats in them. Aside from being a home to native species, the patches of grass

It is a small invertebrate with multiple adaptations to survive in the desert ecosystem. For
starters, this insect has very strong mandibles which can instantly kill the shovelbug s prey.
However, the way it traps its prey in the first place is the interesting part. Similar to an antlion,
the shovelbug digs a small pit in the sand with its shovel like legs, hence the name shovelbug.
Soon after, an unknowing insect may wander into this pit and become food as a result. Having
said that, this isn t all it does to capture prey. This insect actually creates a web identical to that of
a spider s which ensures that the shovelbug s food won t be escaping. Additionally, my beast has
developed long, oval shaped wings like the ones you would find on dragonflies. This adaptation
makes for a quick escape if the shovelbug comes across a dangerous predator. Another adaptation to
avoid predators is the hard exoskeleton which helps them blend into their environment. This
exoskeleton was originally just camouflaged flesh that would change color depending on the
surroundings. It still serves the same purpose with the additional benefit of a

Globalisation in Russia
Globalisation in Russia : the challenge of the transition to the world economy
Fifteen years ago, the Soviet Union was a socialist authoritative country, tightly isolated from
capitalist countries. Nowadays, its direct heir, Russia, is one of the most quickly growing markets
of the world, strongly open on the global economy.
During the 1990s, Russia underwent an extraordinary transformation from a communist
dictatorship to a multi party democracy, from a centrally planned system to a market economy,
and from a belligerent enemy of the West to a cooperative partner. This change was as unexpected
as exceptional: two decades ago, only an idealist would have imagined the evil empire to transform
so quickly and peacefully into a democratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term of transition reveals by itself the prevailing frame of mind at the beginning of the 1990
decade. The concept of transition intends the passing from a situation В–a singular balanceВ– to
another. It is an intermediate situation, a transitory state. There would be thus one market economy,
only one model which it would be possible to reach quickly.
The Russian experiment of the 90ies shows that while wanting to go from a point A (Soviet
economy) to a point B (an idealized market economy), Russia reached another balance, a point C (a
degraded market economy). For all these reasons it is preferable to speak about a process of
transformation rather than about transition.
It seems important, at this stage, to take an interest in the concept of market economy. The market
is a central concept in economy, but its definition is seldom explicit. It is at the same time a
physical place where are carried out the exchanges, a whole of outlets related to a product and the
abstract place of the meeting between supply and demand. For certain authors like Ludwig von
Meises, the market economy corresponds to capitalism and can be thus defined as the exact
opposite of socialist economies.
Actually, the economies of the Soviet block had, to differing degrees, market components. As a
result, it seems more judicious to define the market economy as an economy whose activity is
organized

EXERCISE 4
After spending $600,000 for R D, chemists at Cats Gone Wild have developed a new cat food
called WOW MEOW. The food will be packaged in an 8 ounce can and will be introduced to the
cat food market, which is estimated to be 42 million 8 ounce cans nationally. WOW MEOW will
be distributed in major metropolitan areas that account for 65% of the US cat food volume.
The food will be promoted via newspapers and will offer a coupon for $0.40 off for the first can
purchased and the retailer will receive the regular margin and be reimbursed for redeemed
coupons by Cats Gone Wild. Past experience indicates that for every 5 cans sold during the
introductory year, one coupon will be redeemed. The cost for the newspaper advertising campaign
will be $500,000 in addition to coupon redemption reimbursements. Other fixed overhead costs are
expected to be $180,000 per year.
Management has decided that the suggested retail price for the 8 ounce can to the consumer will
be $1.00. The only unit variable costs for the product are $0.36 for materials and $0.12 for labor.

To what extent did Russia undergo economic and political...
To what extent did Russia undergo economic and political reform in the years 1906 14?
After the 1905 revolution Russia was in need of reforms both economically and politically, to
allow it maintain its role of a great power and to prevent another revolution occurring the answer to
this was the October Manifesto. However, due to the stubbornness of the Tsar who was determined
not to relinquish his autocratic powers, what may have appeared as reforms were largely superficial
making little change in particular to the Russian political system.
In early 1906 the October Manifesto was published as a result of the 1905 revolution and as a way
to appease the peasants and appear as a revolutionary change, when truly very little was changed by

This had a big impact, as it lead to 50% of peasants having ownership of land, and agricultural
production had risen from 45.9 million tonnes to 61.7 million tonnes in 1913. It is said by
historians that had war not broken out, Russia could have developed a more stable, loyal and
prosperous peasantry, as Stolypin envisaged. On the other hand, despite the rise on crop yields
and production, not much was done about the living and working conditions of Russia s industrial
workers. This was definitely shown after his assassination, where a plague of Russian unrest came
around again, only leading to the Lena Goldfield massacre of 1912 in Siberia, which led to strikers
being killed by the police. This was then a tipping point for more strikes and demonstrations,
reminiscent of the 1905 revolution, to take place, showing that despite the fact Stolypin had helped
reform a little economically, it was immediately undone by the wrath of popular unrest amongst the
lower classes once more.
From these two arguments it is very easy to see points helping question the extent of the Russian
economic and political changes over the years, but I

Example Of Sphero Project
Sphero project My class did a big project that included partnership, working together, and
constructing an idea. What we had to do for this project was use rubber bands and put them on
the Sphero in any way to make it go faster in water. But this was also a really fun project to do.
What we had to do was get the Sphero across the water first to win the race. How did my group
put our rubber bands on? Good question. Well we basically put rubber bands covering the whole
sphero. Except we left a few openings. We used about 25 rubber bands. What we were originally
going to do was put 25 rubber bands in an x. Then it went slower than it actually does without
rubber bands. So we tried plan B. But that didn t end up working. So we tried plan

Trials And Tribulations, By Helen Keller
Trials and Tribulations According to Helen Keller, Character cannot be developed in ease and
quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition
inspired, and success achieved. That quote is seared into my brain, along with the quote and
picture of her. I can still vividly recall it in my 9th grade homeroom, adjacent to the generic
Dream to Achieve poster. Every weekday I would wake up at 5:00am, take a shower, get
dressed, put on my tie, and go to school. I would eat breakfast in the car to maximize my sleep. I
would then go to class, and eat a hearty lunch. After school I would attend the daily FCA meeting,
prior to going to football practice. I felt like a member of an ant colony, sticking to my mundane
routine, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had upon us. The next day in school wasn t mundane; I didn t feel like a member of an ant colony,
my thoughts were all over the place, discombobulated. In homeroom, tired, fading in and out of

father was experiencing. As time progressed I learned to adapt to my new environment, making

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Representative Democracy
A democracy is a system of government where the citizens directly exercise their power, and have
the right to elect government representatives who jointly create a government body for the entire
nation, for example: parliament. In a democratic government, people have certain rights that the
government can t take away from them, and these rights are guaranteed.
Types of democracy
The main forms of democracy are:
1.Direct democracy
2.Representative democracy
3.Presidential democracy
4.Parliamentary democracy
5.Authoritarian democracy
6.Participatory democracy
7.Islamic democracy
8.Social democracy
Direct Democracy
A direct democracy is when citizens get to vote for a policy directly, without any intermediate
representatives or houses of parliament. If the government has to pass a certain law or policy, it
goes to the people. The people vote on the issue and decide the fate of their own countries. In a
direct democracy taxes cannot be raised without the public support.
When the population is small and educated a direct democracy is a good idea. Switzerland, for
example, has had a long history of a successful direct democracy. This model of democracy drives
people to form parties for their own agendas.
However, most countries are too large which makes it too complicated for a direct democracy to
work within their political borders. In those cases, people prefer to elect representatives on their
behalf, rather than vote on every single issue.

Allelopathy Affects Germination of Radish Seeds Essay
Introduction This experiment is designed to test the allelopathy of two different treatments,
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus cinerea) and Lemon (Citrus limon). The two treatments will be tested on
radish seeds (Raphanus sativus) to investigate the effect of the treatments on the germination of the
radish seeds. Allelopathy is the beneficial or harmful effects that one plant has on another plant by
the release of chemicals. Allelopathy studies the interactions among plants, fungi, algae and
bacteria with the organisms living in a certain ecosystem, interactions that are mediated by the
secondary metabolites produced and exuded into the environment (Francisco A MacГas, JosГ©

In the dishes, I dropped the appropriate treatment into the center, where the marks were made. Next,
I closed the petri dishes, taped them up, and let them sit at room temperature for a week. Then I
opened them up to take two measurements. The first measurement was the number of seeds
germinated. The second measurement was to measure the seedling lengths.
Results All five groups recorded the outcomes that they established. For our bench, we found that
nine raddish seeds in the control dish, zero raddish seeds in the eucalyptus dish, and four radish
seeds in the lemon dish germinated and sprouted. Our bench also found that the average seed
length for the control was thirty one millimeters, for the Eucalyptus was zero. and for the Lemon
was eight and a half. Below, is a chart and graph that shows the whole data as averages from all
five benches. Each bench did the exact same experiment so we knew nothing would be biased.

Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954. New Orleans was a place for opportunities Ruby
and her family lives changed for the better they thought as parents. In New Orleans Ruby went to a
segregated elementary school. In 1954 a lot was happening when it came to deciding on whether
schools should stay segregated or if they should be desegregated. Brown vs. Topeka Board of
Education pushed the issue to the edge and decided to segregate al schools.

Birth Order And Personality Development
For many years, birth order was noted as a distinguishable characteristic in determining the
personality of child. In the early 1900s, when Alfred Adler first established the concept of birth
order, he became the first theorist to give a new dimension to personality development. Not only
did he look at the influence parents had on personality development but the influence of siblings
and the biological position each of them grew up within their family (Boeree, 2006). Adler
identified five fundamental positions in which a child would be categorized into based on their
birth order. These are; the first born child, the second born child, the middle child, the youngest
child and the only child.
Murphy (2012), acknowledges that there are two types of birth order, actual and psychological.
Actual birth order is the order in which a child is born into the world, whereas psychological birth
order is the position in which the child perceives him or herself to be in the family. Since the
inception of the birth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That general rule being the personality traits assigned to specified birth order positions. It is said
that even though siblings grow up together, they have different experiences based on their actual
birth order, however, it should be noted that these siblings can share these different experiences that
become memories. Rather than becoming enemies and allowing those differences to drift you apart,
they can become best friends and, even without or sharing the connotations of each birth order
personality characteristic (Murphy, 2012). Parents play a role in how these feelings towards their
siblings manifest, whether good or bad. If a parent consistently tells the oldest sibling that they
have to be responsible and they have to be this and be that for their younger siblings, then of
course the first born will develop the personality traits of a leader or

Huck Finn Superstitions
In the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, the characters Tom and Huck who
have a tendency to believe in supernatural forces. This means they have many superstitions, these
superstition have affected their lives. For instance, one of Tom s superstitions kept him from
doing a really fun activity. Superstitions, a big part of Tom and Huck s lives, often makes them
believe weird delusions such as when they bring a dead cat s corpse to a graveyard and use
spunk water to cure their warts, putting quicksilver into a loaf of bread to find a drowned person
and when Tom puts on a string of rattlesnake rattles on his ankle to protect him from cramps. One
of the first superstitions introduced in the novel is when Huck sneaks into a graveyard with a
dead cat where he thinks it will cure their warts. Huck has brought a dead cat with him and Tom
appears confused, Say what is a dead cat for, Huck? Good for. Cure warts with (51). Tom, appeared

How My Life Has Changed My Outlook On Life
Did you ever think that your life could change from one minute to the next? I sat on the couch
waiting for the news that would change my outlook on life. I had a pit in my stomach before there
was even news to tell. I knew this news was coming for a long time, but I did not know how. My
world was going how any 15 year old would want it to go. A loving family, nice friends, and all the
free time in the world. What I did not know was that was all about to change. I was laying on the
couch with my head buried deep in the cushions. Almost like that would shield me from the
news I was about to receive. Goosebumps started to appear on my arms and tear drops rose in
my eyes. I heard the door knob turn, and I knew my mom was home. Picking my head up from
out of the cushions, was like picking up a boulder with my bare hands. Before this point in time
my life was basic. There was six people in the room when the news was dropped. Each person
was on the edge of their seat already anticipating the news my mom was about to speak. We all
sat in the living room which could comfortably fit all of us. However, this time was different. All
the seats were filled with heavy hearts. My mom said guys, I have something to tell you .
Seconds following that statement my Mom mom broke down into tears. Seeing someone you love
cry really pulls on your heart. The silence told it all. Something tragic has happened to our family.

How The Recommended System Meets Health Insurance...
Explain how the recommended system meets Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) requirements. HIPAA of 1996 brings compliance requirements that require significant
challenges for healthcare providers. HIPAA has five separate Titles and is colossal (United States
Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The Administrative Simplification requires the
formation of national standards for HIE transactions and nationwide identifiers for providers, health
insurance plans, and employers (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The
Administrative Simplification also addresses the security and privacy of healthcare information
(United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The criteria are meant to improve the
quality and efficiency of America s health care system by encouraging the widespread use HIE.
Furthermore, with the signing into law of the ARRA of 2009, a number of new measures were
enacted under HITECH. HITECH extends the HIPAA Security and Privacy Rule requirements for
individual patient rights, such as, the right of access to EHRs (United States Department of Health
Human Services, n.d.). Additional rights include the receipt of accounting disclosures when made
from an EHR and the right to restrict disclosures of PHI when self paid (United States Department
of Health Human Services, n.d.). HITECH also instituted breach notification requirements for

Investigating The Effect Of Ligand On The TFT Properties...
To investigate the effect of ligand on the TFT properties, we focused on the In2O3 NCs films
cured at 150 В°C. Both the ligand molecules OA and BET were conserved on the NCs surface in
the TFT devices at a curing temperature of 150 В°C. The TGA curves confirmed no weight loss
at 150 В°C (Figure. 4). Moreover, the FTIR spectrum of the thin films cured at 150 В°C also
supported the existence of the ligand molecules OA and BET with high intensity peaks of the
alkyl group Csp3 H and carboxylate group COO (Figures 5(a) and 5(b)). Therefore, The Вµ
increased after the ligand exchange process because of the decrease ligand lengthfrom OA (1.97 nm)
to BET (0.48 nm). In the In2O3 NCs films cured at 150 В°C, the NCs are separated by insulating

Table 1. TFT characteristics of the In2O3 OA NCs and In2O3 BET NCs thin films annealed at
different temperatures.
The Вµ of In2O3 OA NC and In2O3 BET NC thin films increased by 2 4 orders of magnitude
with increasing annealing temperatures from 150 В°C to 350 В°C, at which the OA or BET
ligands decomposed as discussed in the TGA (Figure 4) and FTIR results (Figures 5(a) and 5(b)).
Specially, the highest mobility obtained in this study are 4.1 cm2V 1s 1 for the In2O3 BET NC
TFT annealed at 350 В°C. This can be explained by thermal decomposition of the organic ligands
OA or BET on the NC surface, decreasing the d between the neighboring nanocrystals with
increasing annealing temperatures [15]. This was further supported by investigating the crystalline
domain sizes of the NCs from the XRD pattern of the thin films (in the supplementary information).
The crystalline domain sizes were not significantly affected by the annealing temperature, indicating
that the In2O3 NC thin films still consisted of an assembly of the single crystalline NCs [15].
Temperature dependence of In2O3 NC TFT devices To know the charge transport mechanism, the
relationship between the mobility and temperature was investigated. The temperature dependence
of the mobility takes the general form

The Fur Trading Business Of British Columbia
The fur trading business in British Columbia was a struggle for power between the fur traders and
the first nations. Each side wanted to have bargaining power over the other in the tense situation.
However, it is clear that the fur traders held the upper hand in British Columbia in several different
matters. First of all, the fur traders held power of the first nationsmaterial culture, the natives began
to rely on the good fur traders were giving them. Secondly, the fur traders have a massive
advantage militarily over the first nations, allowing the fur traders to subjugate the first nations.
Lastly, the fur traders had control over Native tribes allowing them greater access to information. It
is quite clear that the first nations desired European goods, as they would consistently make
concessions to European fur traders. The new items that Europeans traded to the First Nations
drastically changed the First Nations traditional way of life, making way for European s cultural
imperialism. The introduction of metal tools would make Natives quality of life extremely better,
metal tools helped woodcarving and metal kettles made cooking easier. Natives eventually became
reliant on these imported items, especially gunpowder and ammunition. Conflict between tribes
tended to be decided by who had greater access to power and ammo. Thus, the tribes that refused to
trade with Europeans were left at the mercy of opposing tribes. Moreover, the guns that Europeans
provided to

  • 3. Indigenous Struggle For A Life With Dignity Jenny Melin INT 203 Dr. Stephen Haymes Indigenous Struggle for a Life with Dignity in the Ecuadorian Amazon In this paper I argue that lawsuit filed against ChevronTexaco for dumping 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater, spilling roughly 17 millions gallons of crude oil, and leaving hazardous waste in hundreds of open pits dug out of the forest floor have affected more than the ecosystem of the Ecuadorian Amazon. ChevronTexaco has also completely threatened the Ecuadorian indigenous people s way of life and was able to delegitimize their claim due to the global capitalist system and lack of epistemic justice. However I also argue in this paper that the indigenous people s struggle against ChevronTexaco is an exemplification of resistance to the global capitalist system and stands in solidarity with the global justice movement. Indigenous peoples is a term especially used in the international context to recognize the existence of ancestral peoples who existed prior to the formation of modern nation states and whose way of life was, and is, historically denied, outraged and discriminated against. In September 2007 the United Nations Declaration on the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples was signed. This represents a huge discursive change within the international context when recognizing the importance of indigenous people s livelihoods. Indigenous ethos versus western ethos is extremely different in how they identify themselves. Indigenous peoples characteristically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Francois Hutteau s Great Search For Liberty Francois Hutteau s great search for Liberty Hello my French brothers and sisters! Dark times have befallen our precious land, and pure chaos has ensued. I write to the people in France in hopes of establishing a new land. A land that can be looked upon proudly with eyes of great virtue. In order to achieve our wildest dreams we must sort through the rubbish that has landed us here in the first place. How will we as a society react to the many things that have been dealt to the people of France? Perhaps our great fight ends in bloodshed, and broken promises. Or perhaps we could take heed of the laws and policies our fellow Europeans across the Sea. I had the pleasure of visiting one of the cities in America that the citizens take so much pride in: Boston, Massachusetts. A port town on the North Eastern coast that was a large part of the American Revolution. It was also home to the Notorious Boston Massacre. There are a number of things that I enjoyed about my trip, but pointing out the differences between Boston and France had to be the most delectable part of my trip. The way in which they practice religion is something to behold. Their new Constitution is also no laughing matter, and lastly the many things Americans find fun is mesmerizing, and also repulsive. America is a tremendous place and I cannot wait to guide you through my journey and inferences. The first voyage I made when I got off the boat was directly towards a church. I decided to visit the Old North Church and as I approached I noticed that the brick work seemed to glisten in the sun, and the white interior reminded me of how pure the world can really be. The church practiced Protestantism, and started soon after the War.[1] I admired the way in which the citizens praised God, but I did happen to notice that their practices were rather different from my own. After talking to some of the Americans most had either commented on my accent or expressed their condolences to the revolution. I also asked them about how they worship and how they choose to worship. Many of these American citizens were free to choose what they wanted to worship. Most did say that they would be judged for their religious decisions, but were never forced into doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Reflection On Race Reflection 3: Race Race is a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by physical characteristics, such as skin, eyes, and hair. Race is the one thing that surrounds us and helps form us without even thinking. People don t think twice about judging someone and guessing their race. It happens naturally now when you first look or meet someone. Racealso is involved with a variety of values, assumption, and historical meaning. That explains why people who don t believe in stereotypes can easily recite them. In the 1900s, deciding who was an american and who was not was a significant thing that was going on. The film states, Whiteness was not just being a skin color, to be white was to gain the full rewards of american citizenship. In other words, if you weren t considered white, you lived a struggled life. The ideal thing in the 1900s was to be considered white because that is when you were able to have the most opportunities and do something for family. The film also explains that in 1909 courts and legislators would determine who was white. People started question how the would work out in the sufficient way but the problem was that different states would consider different things. For example, In Virginia you were considered black if you had 1/16 of black in you. While in Florida it was 1/8 but Alabama considered you black if you had any black in you. In other words people could walk across a state line and change race. Therefore, people question what is the main criteria for being American . The film states that you would have to gain full rewards of american citizenship to be considered white and it had to be decided through a judge. This leads to a large amount of flaws. For instance, in 1915 Leo Frank, a jew in atlanta was pulled from jail and hung for killing a white girl. People started to question what was white and if a Jew could be considered a white man. People who were seen as non american were seen as the enemy. They strip them of their civil liberties and put them in internment camps. This start becoming a problem because what becomes our country if most people are getting kicked out and killed. The problem was that there was no exact way to calculate if you were ... • 6. Illegal Drug Use And Prostitution Money is often thought of as the root of all evil because it has been proven time and time again that some people will do anything to get as much as possible. Some of the most profitable organized crimes are so successful they are international but often rely on harming others to get ahead. Illegal druguse, human trafficking and prostitutionare three of most lucrative crimes today generating billions of dollars a year. The money is obtained illegally so the need for money laundering is essential. Several factors go into each of these issues and some of these issues can easily be tied to one another. Greed, survival, addiction and emotional needs are just a few factors that drive the businesses of organized crime. As with any business, money is the fuel that keeps it going. In many cases illegal drug use, prostitution and money laundering are found to be linked. An example would be a person turning to prostitution in order to provide the funds necessary to get the drugs that they needed. Money laundering can also include other sources such as illegally acquired funds through financial transactions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2013). Issues of illegal drug use, prostitution, and money laundering will always be a struggling issue in the world of crime. Americans have had a complicated history with drugs, illegal or otherwise. Up until the early 20th Century, many substances we now condemn as illegal were, not only legal, but widely used in products sold to households across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Name Of The People In Bacon s Declaration in the Name of the People , Nathaniel Bacon lists every major offense of Sir William Berkeley, many of which collide with one another to display how the governor s actions and inactions built upon each other to create turmoil for the people of Virginia. However, Berkeley defends himself and proclaims Bacon a traitor in, The Declaration and Remonstrance of Sir William Berkeleyhis most sacred Majesties Governor and Captain Generall of Virginia . In order to gainthe king s favor, both men write separate declarations, but one has everything to lose while the other has everything to gain. The first of the offenses listed by Bacon is the demanding of unjust taxes which are not being used to better the colony at least not for the underclass; thus, Berkeley has also been accused of abusing his power as governor. With the purpose of monetary gain, Bacon applies for a trading license but is denied by Berkeley and the council, which consists of many of Berkeley s cronies. This leads Bacon to make the allegation that Berkeley has made a monopoly of the beaver trade which is true but Berkeley only denied Bacon s request because he knew Bacon wanted more power and where there is money, there is power. In the midst of the two men s quarreling, the lower classes of Virginia are demanding land. They begin to migrate to Indian Territory and are consequently murdered by the Indians. Though there is an army at his command, Berkeley does not use them against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Halloween By Diane Arbus Analysis Masks In the photograph Halloween by Diane Arbus there are two children dressed up for Halloween in the foreground. The central figure in this photograph is a child in a cute Mickey Mouse costume. Based on his height he is most likely around the age of five to six. Despite his appealing costume, the boy is wearing a scary mask on his face. The mask is a skeleton s face with its mouth and eyes wide open. Mickey Mouse s face on the boy s costume, is smiling, which is a contradictory expression to the mask. The boy is standing upright, but putting more pressure on his left side, allowing him to lean a bit. Both of his hands are raised parallel to his shoulders. His fingers are curled like he is trying to scare someone. The body language of the boy appears that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The little girl is also wearing a Halloween costume. Unlike the boy s cheerful Mickey Mouse costume, her dress has bats and spider webs on it. There also seems to be a rope on the dress, meant to look like a bow. Similar to the boy, the girl is also wearing a mask. Instead of a skeleton s face, her mask looks like a creepy doll s face. The girl is also standing upright to the left of the boy and a little behind him. It appears that her hands are raised too. Her left hand is hidden behind the boy, so it is unclear what it is doing. In her right hand she is holding something, but her fingers are similarly curled, as if she is also trying to scare someone. The way her shoulders are shrugging makes her appear to also be uncomfortable with her position. By looking at the background, it appears that the children are in the city. There are buildings lined up all the way down the street and cars are parallel parked next the sidewalk. Two or three other people are also walking on the sidewalk. All around where the two children are standing is a lot of trash and cracks on the ground. Directly behind the children is a break of the buildings and instead a fence. • 11. Growth Of Informal Immigrants In The Philippines One of the most critical issues facing our country is the annual growth of the population of informal settlers. In 2000, one of the largest censuses of the country was conducted which surveyed population and housing. Together with statistics from a 2007 census on population, an accurate representation of informal settlers was formulated. The data from the two censuses showed that the number of households in the Philippines that are currently occupied by informal settlers reaches an approximate 600,000, with the highest density of residents being situated in Quezon City (Cruz). A more alarming fact is that the NCR alone holds 1/3 of the entire population of informal settlers. It s hard to pinpoint the exact time the very first families considered informal settlers started to migrate to urban cities, specifically into Metro Manila. There is, however, numerous statistical studies that show spikes in population number throughout the years. One of the largest spikes in the squatter population occurred between 1970 to 1980, originating from approximately 283,000 to a whopping 1.6 million (From squatters to informal settlers ). The biggest spike occurred not only during the reign of the Marcos administration, but after its fall, which caused a major backlash in its attempt to fix the crisis of informal settling. There are some things that should first be taken into consideration. Despite the concrete statistics, it s not so easy to just point fingers and directly accuse the ... The system is called manorialism and it is when peasants and/or serfs would do work in the lord s estate or castle(Feudalismin Europe). These castles had a large mound, or motte, and then the keep would go on top of that. It was almost impossible to get up that motte. The other aspect of these special castles was the bailey. This is where the followers of the lord lived. There were many structures inside the bailey including stables, storehouses, bakeries, kitchens, houses, and quarters for soldiers ( Castle ). A wooden fence called the palisade surrounds the building and a ditch called a fosse also surrounds the bailey. Windsor castle was one of the first motte and bailey castles built in Europe. Concentric castles had two or three walls that went around the keep. The inside walls were built even higher than the walls that were on the outside. This meant that the soldiers/defenders were able to fire arrows over the heads of the soldiers defending the outside walls ( Castle ). On 13 September 2013, Erle Elis informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying capacity. That the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying capacity is estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s populationstands at around 7 billion. In other words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050, population will reach 9 billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the life support that sustains us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so as our population expands. This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations. However, there is many ways to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment. Women s empowerment has four proportions: having control over their own body, education, radical and monetary. So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If so can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy Coen) There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing everyone s human rights, especially women s rights. • 14. Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting. Cummings asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality, then grow into busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live their lives, and die, still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition, foreshadowing, and figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he explains how this lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while they live their lives in a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community and individuality. Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each generation repeats a cycle. For instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names... These methods can stop medicinal effects of chemotherapy and even cytotoxic agents that kill any cells indiscriminately. Bill Murray, a retired major league baseball administrator, diagnosed with melanoma endured three separated courses of a new class of immunotherapy to treat the disease. In 2011, Murray was first given a peptide based vaccine and a monoclonal antibody called nivolumab. Nivolumab targets the programmed cell death protein 1 displayed on the surface of T cells, a type of lymphocyte white blood cell. PD 1 works as a signal receptor on activated T cells that packs down T cell activity after detecting its counterpart, PD L1 on the surface of tumor cells. The nivolumab was intended to block PD L1 and allow Murray s T cells to fight cancer. Unfortunately, the treatment did not work and Murray had to be given a new antibody called ipilimumab. It binds cytotoxic T lymphocyte associated protein 4 expressed by PD 1 T cells. The ipilimumab allowed Murray s immune system via T cell offensive to combat cancer. But five years later, ... Middle Class In Victorian Society Representing the middle class in media predates modern entertainment to Victorian times, when music halls and novels entertained audiences with exaggerations of life. These early reflections influenced the way television comedies do today. According to Banville (2011), All of these cultural forms have one thing in common, the goal of representing the livid experiences of ourselves and others to both ourselves and others (p. 17). Although the medium changed from music hall to sitcom, being middle classis a shared experience that transcends decades due to the diverse audience that identifies with the material. Victorians stereotyped lower class men who attempted to gain wealth or appear wealthy as feminine, therefore unworthy of wealth or royalty (Banville, 2011, p. 18). They used stereotypes of lower class citizens to protect their way of life, and perpetuate wealth disparity in England. Stereotypes sustained Victorian music halls and novels to distinguish the wealthy from the poor, and they used these stereotypes to stifle a class of people s quality of life. The same stereotypes are the basis for many jokes in present day comedies such as Everybody Loves Raymond (Banville, 2011, p. 24). The two historians approach their stories in completely different ways, which ultimately leads to different explanations of the origins of conflict. Herodotus focuses on recalling the origins of the Ionian Revolt, the rise of the Persian Empire, and the Persian Wars with Greece, while Thucydides writes about the Peloponnesian War. M.I. Finely suggests, in the introduction of Thucydides book that Thucydides is complementing Herodotus by beginning where Herodotus left off (Finley, History of the Peloponnesian War p.16). Although these two historians approach the start of conflicts in different ways, it seems that Thucydides is not suggesting that Herodotus explanations are wrong. The story is mostly about how he, the Once ler cuts down all the Truffula trees without the thought of what could happen. He goes completely against the Lorax rather than making friends with him. He then realizes what he has done and felt bad. The book was mostly set where the Truffula trees are (past the town) it shows how beautiful the land is then how it got destroyed. There are a lot of character differences such as the book mostly has characters with first person point of view. The boy who goes to see the Once ler was never given a name (how sad). He gets ... • 31. Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market; The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to organize. Also, they were supervised since that idea appealed to many parents who would send their daughters to the mills. Some parents would send their daughters to the mills because they could barely provide for their children. • 33. The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St. Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice. According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol. Also, it is important to mention that at least three ... In the adult fly, these segments all look similar but are clearly unique in terms of being separated into the head, thoracic, abdominal and terminal segments respectively. These segments already have their fates determined by several types of genes that are expressed within the fly that define these segments. The main genein focus for this paper that is unique to flies of the genus Drosophila is the maternal effect gene, Bicoid. If an embryo was taken and mutated for the bicoid gene; the fly would develop no anterior structures. It would grow without a head and will eventually die. It was then found that the three genes that code for the anterior development are bcd, exuperantia [exu], and swallow [swa]. Studies show that the bcd protein is concentrated at the head end and gradually decreases in concentration as it extends towards the posterior end of the fly. When the bcd gene was mutated in an embryo, it resulted in embryos with a second posterior region developing instead of where the head should have been. In bcd mutant embryos, a duplication of the posterior telson is seen whereby it completely eradicates the presence of anterior structures. These mutant flies obviously ceased to survive and are thus considered to be strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Philippines during 1941 was to the eyes of the Japanese Empire a perfect strategic location for their campaign of conquest of South Eastern Asia. Not only was it a perfect place to station troops to launch further assaults on positions like Singapore and Australia. It was also a resource rich country which would further fuel the Japanese war machine and feed the Japanese people at home. Though there was a substantial American Force stationed throughout The Philippines at the time, it was both of the strategic location and resources which governed the Japanese decision to invade the islands. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a small invertebrate with multiple adaptations to survive in the desert ecosystem. For starters, this insect has very strong mandibles which can instantly kill the shovelbug s prey. However, the way it traps its prey in the first place is the interesting part. Soon after, an unknowing insect may wander into this pit and become food as a result. Having said that, this isn t all it does to capture prey. This insect actually creates a web identical to that of a spider s which ensures that the shovelbug s food won t be escaping. Additionally, my beast has developed long, oval shaped wings like the ones you would find on dragonflies. This adaptation makes for a quick escape if the shovelbug comes across a dangerous predator. • 39. Globalisation in Russia Globalisation in Russia : the challenge of the transition to the world economy Fifteen years ago, the Soviet Union was a socialist authoritative country, tightly isolated from capitalist countries. Nowadays, its direct heir, Russia, is one of the most quickly growing markets of the world, strongly open on the global economy. During the 1990s, Russia underwent an extraordinary transformation from a communist dictatorship to a multi party democracy, from a centrally planned system to a market economy, and from a belligerent enemy of the West to a cooperative partner. This change was as unexpected as exceptional: two decades ago, only an idealist would have imagined the evil empire to transform so quickly and peacefully into a democratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term of transition reveals by itself the prevailing frame of mind at the beginning of the 1990 decade. The concept of transition intends the passing from a situation В–a singular balanceВ– to another. It is an intermediate situation, a transitory state. There would be thus one market economy, only one model which it would be possible to reach quickly. The Russian experiment of the 90ies shows that while wanting to go from a point A (Soviet economy) to a point B (an idealized market economy), Russia reached another balance, a point C (a degraded market economy). For all these reasons it is preferable to speak about a process of transformation rather than about transition. It seems important, at this stage, to take an interest in the concept of market economy. The market is a central concept in economy, but its definition is seldom explicit. It is at the same time a physical place where are carried out the exchanges, a whole of outlets related to a product and the abstract place of the meeting between supply and demand. For certain authors like Ludwig von Meises, the market economy corresponds to capitalism and can be thus defined as the exact opposite of socialist economies. Actually, the economies of the Soviet block had, to differing degrees, market components. As a result, it seems more judicious to define the market economy as an economy whose activity is organized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, despite the rise on crop yields and production, not much was done about the living and working conditions of Russia s industrial workers. This was definitely shown after his assassination, where a plague of Russian unrest came around again, only leading to the Lena Goldfield massacre of 1912 in Siberia, which led to strikers being killed by the police. This was then a tipping point for more strikes and demonstrations, reminiscent of the 1905 revolution, to take place, showing that despite the fact Stolypin had helped reform a little economically, it was immediately undone by the wrath of popular unrest amongst the lower classes once more. In the early 1900s, when Alfred Adler first established the concept of birth order, he became the first theorist to give a new dimension to personality development. Not only did he look at the influence parents had on personality development but the influence of siblings and the biological position each of them grew up within their family (Boeree, 2006). Adler identified five fundamental positions in which a child would be categorized into based on their birth order. These are; the first born child, the second born child, the middle child, the youngest child and the only child. Murphy (2012), acknowledges that there are two types of birth order, actual and psychological. • 52. How My Life Has Changed My Outlook On Life Did you ever think that your life could change from one minute to the next? I sat on the couch waiting for the news that would change my outlook on life. I had a pit in my stomach before there was even news to tell. I knew this news was coming for a long time, but I did not know how. My world was going how any 15 year old would want it to go. A loving family, nice friends, and all the free time in the world. What I did not know was that was all about to change. I was laying on the couch with my head buried deep in the cushions. Almost like that would shield me from the news I was about to receive. Goosebumps started to appear on my arms and tear drops rose in my eyes. I heard the door knob turn, and I knew my mom was home. Picking my head up from out of the cushions, was like picking up a boulder with my bare hands. Before this point in time my life was basic. There was six people in the room when the news was dropped. Each person was on the edge of their seat already anticipating the news my mom was about to speak. We all sat in the living room which could comfortably fit all of us. However, this time was different. All the seats were filled with heavy hearts. My mom said guys, I have something to tell you . Seconds following that statement my Mom mom broke down into tears. Seeing someone you love cry really pulls on your heart. The silence told it all. Something tragic has happened to our family. The living room that held six people was terribly silent. My mom ended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. How The Recommended System Meets Health Insurance... Explain how the recommended system meets Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements. HIPAA of 1996 brings compliance requirements that require significant challenges for healthcare providers. HIPAA has five separate Titles and is colossal (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The Administrative Simplification requires the formation of national standards for HIE transactions and nationwide identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The Administrative Simplification also addresses the security and privacy of healthcare information (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). The criteria are meant to improve the quality and efficiency of America s health care system by encouraging the widespread use HIE. Furthermore, with the signing into law of the ARRA of 2009, a number of new measures were enacted under HITECH. HITECH extends the HIPAA Security and Privacy Rule requirements for individual patient rights, such as, the right of access to EHRs (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). Additional rights include the receipt of accounting disclosures when made from an EHR and the right to restrict disclosures of PHI when self paid (United States Department of Health Human Services, n.d.). HITECH also instituted breach notification requirements for breaks involving electronic health records and PHI ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Investigating The Effect Of Ligand On The TFT Properties... To investigate the effect of ligand on the TFT properties, we focused on the In2O3 NCs films cured at 150 В°C. Both the ligand molecules OA and BET were conserved on the NCs surface in the TFT devices at a curing temperature of 150 В°C. The TGA curves confirmed no weight loss at 150 В°C (Figure. 4). Moreover, the FTIR spectrum of the thin films cured at 150 В°C also supported the existence of the ligand molecules OA and BET with high intensity peaks of the alkyl group Csp3 H and carboxylate group COO (Figures 5(a) and 5(b)). Therefore, The Вµ increased after the ligand exchange process because of the decrease ligand lengthfrom OA (1.97 nm) to BET (0.48 nm). In the In2O3 NCs films cured at 150 В°C, the NCs are separated by insulating ligand OA... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Table 1. TFT characteristics of the In2O3 OA NCs and In2O3 BET NCs thin films annealed at different temperatures. The Вµ of In2O3 OA NC and In2O3 BET NC thin films increased by 2 4 orders of magnitude with increasing annealing temperatures from 150 В°C to 350 В°C, at which the OA or BET ligands decomposed as discussed in the TGA (Figure 4) and FTIR results (Figures 5(a) and 5(b)). Specially, the highest mobility obtained in this study are 4.1 cm2V 1s 1 for the In2O3 BET NC TFT annealed at 350 В°C. This can be explained by thermal decomposition of the organic ligands OA or BET on the NC surface, decreasing the d between the neighboring nanocrystals with increasing annealing temperatures [15]. This was further supported by investigating the crystalline domain sizes of the NCs from the XRD pattern of the thin films (in the supplementary information). The crystalline domain sizes were not significantly affected by the annealing temperature, indicating that the In2O3 NC thin films still consisted of an assembly of the single crystalline NCs [15]. Temperature dependence of In2O3 NC TFT devices To know the charge transport mechanism, the relationship between the mobility and temperature was investigated. The temperature dependence of the mobility takes the general form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Fur Trading Business Of British Columbia The fur trading business in British Columbia was a struggle for power between the fur traders and the first nations. Each side wanted to have bargaining power over the other in the tense situation. However, it is clear that the fur traders held the upper hand in British Columbia in several different matters. First of all, the fur traders held power of the first nationsmaterial culture, the natives began to rely on the good fur traders were giving them. Secondly, the fur traders have a massive advantage militarily over the first nations, allowing the fur traders to subjugate the first nations. Lastly, the fur traders had control over Native tribes allowing them greater access to information. It is quite clear that the first nations desired European goods, as they would consistently make concessions to European fur traders. The new items that Europeans traded to the First Nations drastically changed the First Nations traditional way of life, making way for European s cultural imperialism. The introduction of metal tools would make Natives quality of life extremely better, metal tools helped woodcarving and metal kettles made cooking easier. Natives eventually became reliant on these imported items, especially gunpowder and ammunition. Conflict between tribes tended to be decided by who had greater access to power and ammo. Thus, the tribes that refused to trade with Europeans were left at the mercy of opposing tribes. Moreover, the guns that Europeans provided to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
