E-Procurement Tools
There are a large number of E procurement tools that could be distinguished in the marketplace (de
Boer et al., 2001). Some of them are already well developed and highly accepted in the
marketplace; nonetheless, there are numerous E procurement tools that are immature and require
further development (Wang, 2006). For the purpose for this paper, we aim to focus on the E
procurementtools that are widely accepted in the government and private sectors. The four most
common E procurement tools being used consist of E Sourcing, E Tendering, E Reverse Auction
and E Collaboration (Boer et. al., 2001). The description of the four E procurement tools would be

E Reverse Auction Compared to E Tendering, E Reverse Auction is another form of E procurement
tool that allows the purchasing company to use internet technology to purchase products and
services that either have the lowest price or a combination of low price and other important
conditions such as the quality of the products and services (Knudsen, 2003). Diagram 1.3. provides
a snapshot of the comparison between different forms of auctioning.
Figure 1.3. Comparison between traditional auction and reverse auction
E Reverse auction is the opposite of traditional auction. A traditional auction usually involves a
seller offering one or more items for sale in the marketplace, and there will be multiple potential
buyers compete for the purchase of the item(s) being offered (de Boer et al., 2001). The price is
driven up until a stage that no buyers are willing to offer a higher price (de Boer et al., 2001).
EBay and Amazon.com could be well known examples of traditional auction on the Internet. In
contrary, reverse auction is a process which there are multiple sellers are competing for the
business of one single buyer. At such, the price is driven down until there are no sellers willing to
bid any lower (Merson, 2000). According to

Cholera Is An Infectious Bacterial Disease Of The Small...
Cholera is an infectious bacterial disease of the small intestine. This bacterium has spread through
the world covering about 50 countries that came about through 7 pandemics. This disease is a
worldwide public health concern affecting 3 5 million people each year, killing 120,000. Before, it
was thought that choleraspread through a sort of fog known as a miasma however now we know the
whole mechanism for the cholera toxin. It was discovered that cholera is transmitted through fecal
oral transmission and is thus a waterborne bacterium. Although a very deadly and disturbing
disease, even without medical education, this disease can be managed and usually even treated.
Before science was as far advanced as it is today, people were unsure how cholera was spread or
transmitted from person to person. The Europeans and Americans believed it was spread
through a miasma (like dirty fog) and got breathed in. Many people also believed it was brought
from various immigrant populations or was a disease of the poor. John Snow at the time was
one of the few people skeptic of the popular belief that cholera was spread through Miasma. He
was a believer instead in a theory put forth by Girolamo Fracastoro known as the germ theory. The
germ theory of disease states that some diseases are caused by microorganisms and that
reproduction within their hosts can cause a disease. It wasn t until the work performed by Louis
Pasteur came about to validate the germ theory of disease and disprove

Theme Of Innocence In To Kill A Mockingbird
In To Kill A Mockingbird, author Harper Lee studies the topics of perspective and childhood
innocence. Written in 1960, Lee tells the story of Scout Finch and her older brother Jem as they
mature during the Great Depression in Maycomb County, Alabama. Scout is first shown to be an
innocent and immature child, but as the story develops, her innocent perspective changes to a new
awareness of the oppression and injustice in her society. Arthur Boo Radley is characterized as the
childrens mysterious neighbor who never goes out of his house, which makes him a victim to
gossip and superstition by the people in Maycomb. The children believe the cruel rumors and
therefore have a fearful perspective of Boo, using him as an inspiration for their games... Show

Scout and Jem start by being frightened by Boo because of the negative rumors they hear about
him. Jem believes that Boo is a monster and Scout describes him as malevolent phantom. It is
shown that Scout and Jem do not understand Boo by their imaginative stories and games inspired
by him for childhood fun. As the story develops, the children s obsession over seeing and
communication with Boo becomes the recognition that Boo wants to be their friend by leaving
small and thoughtful gifts for them as communication. When the knothole in the tree where Boo
leaves his gifts becomes blocked, they realize that Boo is not a mysterious phantom, but a person
oppressed by his brother, who takes away his opportunity to communicate to the children.
Although Boo s only way of communication to the children is taken away, it is shown that he
continues to watch over them when he covers Scout with a blanket without her knowing to keep
her warm and mends Jem s pants. These actions show that Boo is a respectable person and not
the monster they believe him to be. When Tom Robinson s trial happens, Scout and Jem begin to
have a different understanding of their neighbor. After the trial, Jem knows the racial injustice and
prejudice in the people s actions, which helps him realize the reasoning for how Boo lives. Jem
says, I think I m beginning to understand something. I think I m beginning to understand why Boo
Radley s stayed shut up in the house all this time...It s because he wants to stay inside (227). Jem
shows that he understands that Boo does not want to come out of his house because he knows the
dangers of prejudice and hate in Maycomb. He makes the choice to stay inside so that he will not
be in the mess of humanity and an unjust and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Citizen Journalism
The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism and professional journalism
In this era, the popularity of citizen journalism has spread throughout all over the world. As a
matter of fact, more and more people are starting to take benefit of content publishers. This can
be seen in Television news, such as winter snow photos, traffic accidents or local sporting events.
However, it leaves a question, what exactly is news anyway? What do you need to be a citizen
journalist? What is its impact on today s fast paced society? Basically, a lot of people think this is
a great thing and it can be a good tool for promoting interaction between the media community and
the community. There are pros and cons of citizen journalism, we need to face this issue critically
and dialectically (Techopedia, 2017). On the one hand, citizen journalism has some benefits that
professional journalism can not provide. Firstly, comparing with professional journalism, citizen
journalism provides a wider range of news and fills the gaps in mainstream media. The main body
of the dissemination of citizen journalism is ordinary citizens rather than professional journalists or
professional media. People can through the Facebook, microblog,Twitter to publish news which
happened around their life. Delicacy, beautiful scenery, sports events, entertainments, political
commentary can be seen in Weibo, Twitter, Facebook and so on. Secondly, citizen journalism could
stimulate the interest of audience. Most audiences enjoy reading ... Show more content on

to read the news from television, newspapers, radio, all of these news are from professional

What Is Tocqueville Relevant Today
Alexis De Tocqueville was a French intellectual who lived in the heartland of the enlightenment.
He decided to go to America because he thought he saw the outlines of a new kind of society,
which would slowly become the kind of society for the rest of the world. He saw at first hand a
democratized society with many issues. After his return, from America, he wrote and published the
book that made him famous, Democracyin America. Democracy in America discusses many of the
issues he encountered, but what he observed in the nineteenth century is still relevant today.
The main problems Tocqueville saw facing democratic societies were the danger of democratic
despotism, mass society, individualism and the excessive love for equality. I would first like to
discuss the democratic despotism. Because democratic despotism is perfectly compatible with
rule by majority it is not immediately obvious as despotism. Democracy is a term indicating who
is in power and despotism is a term indicating how much power a leader has. Therefore when the
people rule and the majority have absolute power, there is a democratic despotism. But the only
way to run a society is to base decisions on what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tocqueville saw a problem facing democratic societies, which is mass society. The danger that
the majority will become tyrannical creates mass society with the worry that when people are
together the view of the majority come to be the dominating principal. Those in the minority will
be helpless with no voice and will be pressured to conform into what the majority wants.
Conforming to the majority opinion negates the principal of equality. Therefore, an aristocracy
can never become a majority while it retains its exclusive privileges, and it cannot yield its
privileges without ceasing to be an aristocracy. In a powerful passage, Tocqueville states how this
form of tyranny can be worse than the past

Shifting Women s Views By Harriet Martineau And Dorothy...
Shifting Women s Views Although we see many shifts taking place in Britain between the
Romantic and Victorian periods, such as the abolishment of slavery, the discoveries by
astronomers and biologists, as well as this being at the highest point of development as a world
power (1017). Throughout the Romantic and Victorian periods of British history, we also witness
the emergence of an inner consciousness of women, which denounced those accepted by society
at the time. This is illustrated through observing the parallels and contrasts within the writings of
Harriet Martineau and Dorothy Wordsworth. The inner reflections of these women writers not
only rejects the Angel in the House ideal placed upon women, which is found in The Paragon by
, but also contradicts those illustrated in My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover. One can also
see that the new emerging consciousness of women was a reflection of the social unrest during
these time periods. During the Romantic period, England was experiencing the ordeal of change
from a primarily agricultural society, where wealth and power had been concentrated in the
landholding aristocracy, to a modern industrial nation (5). Because of these shifts, times were
exceedingly difficult for country people, many were displaced from their small family farms, and
women had fewer options to support themselves without husbands. We also see these realities
reflected in the prose of Dorothy Wordworth s journals. There are many

Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, also referred to as the father of Mexican independence, began his life

Following this accomplishment, Hidalgo spent time in Valladolid where he lectured in Latin,
Philosophy, and the principles of Theology at San NicolГЎs.[12] In 1773 Hidalgo returned to the
University of Mexico for his second Bachelor degree in Theology. In 1774 Hidalgo won a prize for
the best dissertation on the The True Method of Studying Theology. Then in 1778 he was
ordained as a priest either in Valladolid or the City of Mexico.[13] During, as well as following, his
academic career Hidalgo spent the majority of his time in Valladolid. His occupations included
Rector of the college of San NicolГЎs, teacher, and cleric. It has been stated that many of the
heroes of the revolutionary period were native of Valladolid or its vicinity, or were at one time
resident there. Beginning in 1785 in Colima, Hidalgo engaged himself in parochial work, and in
1793 took the position of curate of the parish church in San Filipe.[14] It was in the year 1800
that the inquisition became suspicious of Hidalgo. He was denounced by Fray Joaquin Huesca
for unorthodox utterances. A report issued thereafter by the Michoacan commissioner claimed
that Hidalgo was a most learned man who had ruined himself with gambling and women, that he
had read prohibited books and while a professor of theology he had taught from Jansenist works.

reference. In 1801, Hidalgo began his

Hague Regulations Essay
The Hague Regulations The earliest developments in the law of armed conflict were based on the
assumption that in a war between two or more states, those who were legitimately entitled to take
up arms were the armed forces of those states. Thus armed forces was not a term which required
definition. Individual members of the armed forces were combatants, another term which was
treated as self evident. The rules of armed conflict therefore were to be applied to armies. It is
generally accepted by IHL experts that the first international attempt at defining combatants was
included in the International Declaration concerning the laws and Customs of War adopted in
Brussels in 1874. Even more recent studies assert without question that the... Show more content on

In terms of application, however, these conditions are provisions of the law which are fairly
marginal. The Brussels Declaration formed the basis of the definition of combatant which was
incorporated into Articles 1 and 3 of the Regulations annexed to the Hague Convention (II) with
Respect to the Laws and Customs of War on Land of 1899 and 1907. In a later development, the
Brussels/Hague provisions were incorporated into the 1949 Third Geneva Convention on
Prisoners of War, in order to establish the qualifications required to receive prisoner of war
treatment. Because there is no definition of combatant as such, it has always been difficult to say
whether only members of the armed forces are to be considered combatants. This problem is
compounded by the fact that the Hague definition provides that the armed forces can include non
combatants, with both categories being entitled to prisoner of war status. In other words, in the
Hague formulation, the term armed forces is not limited to those officially engaged in combat.
This provision of the Regulations implies that militias are part of the armed forces even though
they are not to be considered part of the army, unless the two terms are interchangeable. To sum up,
the Hague Regulations did not define the concept of combatant and left it up to each state to decide
which members of its armed forces were combatants and which were not.

Abstract

God s Spirits Of Lust
Human Sacrifices
Satan s spirits of lust emerge in the pagan gods Baal, Molech, and Chemosh that are all mentioned
in the Bible; specifically, their practices often included distorted sexual acts, human sacrifices,
cannibalism, and the eating of blood that were distinctively traits of devil worship. Baal worship
became abundant throughout much of the ancient Middle East; concurrently, in early societies Baal
has a long history of perverted sex that is akin to Pan Worship within his cult rituals. Mount
Hermon turned out to be one of the major centers of Baal/Pan worship that involved the brutality of
human sacrifices. Baal obtained other god s identity, such as the horned Molech; well known for
child sacrifices. The various names and epithets of Baal occurring in the Old Testamentand
elsewhere were derived from his various aspects and the localities of his worship. For the majority
of people, the cruelty of tormenting and murdering children becomes too devastating, believing that
it just could not have happened. On the contrary, the Bible s staunch position states numerous times
concerning these killings, and references how the Israelites served the idols of the heathen.
In 1870, Sir Charles Warren happened to be exploring in the Lebanon region on the summit of
Mount Hermon and found the ruins of a temple believed to belong to Baal. Similarly, this could be

Unlike Victor, Walton would rather live than be taken by the dangers of exploration.
This quote is significant because it tells of the moment that Frankenstein s troubles began. From this
moment, when the monster comes to life, to the end of the novel, Victor is plagued by the horrors
that the monster inflicts upon him. Had Victor not created the creature, or had his experiment
failed, he would not have lost so many loved ones and endured all the troubles that came with it.

Birth Control Should Be Available To Teenage Girls
According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), teen pregnancy rates have decreased by 11
percent to those aged 15 19 years in the years 2013 to 2014. If a continuum of these rates is to be
achieved, birth control should be available to teen girls without a prescription because they can
prevent unintended pregnancies. Also, the staggering abortion rates could be lowered due to the
use of oral contraceptives being available at any time. If condoms can be bought in stores to help
guys protect themselves, birth controlshould be over the counter. Birth control pills should be
available to teenage girls because teenage boys have availability to condoms, it would lower teen

Political Poetry by Margaret Atwood Essay
Backdrop addresses cowboy by Margaret Atwood
Creating a masterful poetic movement through the American mythos, Atwood skewers manifest
destiny by embodying the voice of the Other, the discarded I am.
Writing political poetry that artfully confronts dominant ideology thus exposing the motivation and
effects of misrepresentation is a difficult challenge. The process can easily be derailed by
temptations to write strident, overly didactic verse that elevates sentiment above nuance and craft.
While passion is certainly important, it is the poem itself that transforms political intent into a
dynamic act of oppositional literature. To be effective as a statement, it must first be effective as a
poem. In Backdrop addresses cowboy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarded as a heroic figure by the myth of manifest destiny, he is conversely seen as a reckless
tyrant by those who suffer the effects of his violence. The first stanza reveals a comic figure
Starspangled cowboy sauntering through his child like fantasy while pulling a prop from the
Hollywood simulacrum that supports his myth. Atwood complicates this image in the second
stanza when she introduces violence to her almost /silly characterization of the mythical West.
Using a line break to accentuate the transition, she plays the impact of a stand alone line against the
expanded meaning of its grammatical context. Isolated, line six ( you are innocent as a bathtub )
relates directly to the opening stanza s child like caricature, forming an aphoristic trope that is both
interesting and oddly mundane. Accentuated by the break, the line s reading adds dramatic nuance
when its sentence unfolds into a broader meaning: you are innocent as a bathtub / filled with
bullets. Contrasting the ironic character of opposed readings (innocent and not at all innocent)
within the space of shared words, Atwood foreshadows an overall conceptual structure in which
backdrop refers both to the simulacrum of Hollywood sets and to the genuine environment of a
beleaguered world. Despite its obvious quantitative reference, bathtub / filled with bullets also
infers a Hollywood clichГ© the bullet riddled

Educating Essex Essay
Dear editor,
I am writing to you because I find it impossible to understand why Educating Essex represents
teenagers in this such way to society today, it only makes an impression of them, that all Britain s
teenagers are goby, impolite, spoilt and lacking enough self discipline to interact with anyone. This
supports stereotypes of modern reckless teens, when in reality the majority of Britain s teenagers
are interesting, polite and simply brilliant young people quietly going about the business of creating
a bright future for themselves.
On Educating Essex I have witnessed many negative things that show teenagers in a bad way, such
as students walking across a table, pupils on mobile phones, swearing at each other and teachers, ...

Black Lives Matter ( Blm )
Introduction
Black Lives Matter (BLM) is a loosely‐coordinated, nationwide movement dedicated to ending
police brutality that rose to prominence in late 2014. It takes its name from a hashtag started by
three Black feminist activists Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi but the movement
and the hashtag are not identical (Freelon, McIlwain, Clark, 2016). BLM has achieved national
reputation through their online and offline organizing, obtaining extensive news media coverage
and glowing references in music and entertainment television. Based on a horrendous incident that
sparked a concern for a lot of Black people across the world, the sudden need for a social
movement was born called BLM. Black Lives Matter is a national organization working for the
validity of Black life and also working to rebuild the Black liberation movement. Black Lives
Matter broadens the conversation and highlight the incidents around state violence to include the
ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state. This
referring to the ways in which Black lives are deprived of basic human rights and dignity.
According to the article The Murder of Walter Scott, which talks about race and class, African

The Evolution of the Scarlet Letter
The Evolution of the Scarlet Letter At what point in time can one truly forgive themselves for a
sin they have committed? A week? A month? A year? And what about peers? When do they start
forgiving for a sin? Throughout The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne learns
answers to such questions after it is learned she in an adulteress. Hester s scarlet letter serves as a
reminder to herself and her peers of the sins she has committed, and there is a true evolution from
the beginning to the end of the story of the views of not only the letter but the person wearing it
from Hester herself, the villagers, Pearl, and the author. Throughout the story, the reader can clearly

Even though she often uses it to taunt Hester, Pearl is a constant reminder of Hester s sin and is
always making sure she has her scarlet letter. Although it is mentioned the narrator in the custom
house is not Nathaniel Hawthorne, they are both very similar. The narrator is carefully constructed
as being similar to Hester in the sense that they are both isolated by people whom they have no
connection to. The author feels this way working in the custom house surrounded by old men. I
am a citizen of somewhere else (31). Hester, of course, is isolated from the rest of the community
because of her sin. Even though the narrator feels he will be criticized for attempting to make a
writing career, he makes a fictional account of Hester s story anyways. Writing for him is similar
to needle work for Hester, and it is a further comparison of two similar characters. The author
evolves Hester into himself, and it is made clear that is his intention. In conclusion, the evolution of
Hester, the villagers, Pearl, and the author of the scarlet letter that Hester wears is generally seen
as acceptance of her and her sin. The author develops Hester into a woman who gradually
becomes comfortable with the idea of herself and her sin. Although Pearl never clearly
understands it, she recognizes that her mother will forever be a sinner, but is still her mother. The
villagers at first heckle Hester of her scarlet letter, but begin to see her true colors. In short, The

Noises Off Play Review
Last month, I had the privilege of attending the play Noises Off, a British splat stick comedy set

how I would be feel attending the play. I was not expecting to feel self conscious, agitated, and
exhausted from that experience. In all honesty, I did not care about my appearance when I

Misconceptions About Vaccines
Vaccines are largely debated within today s world. There isn t much debate within the medical
community, but there is debate between the medical community and the general public. There are
some people in the public who have certain misconceptions about vaccines, a couple being that
vaccines cause autism or autoimmune disorders. However, these claims have been studied
extensively, and there is no scientific evidence backing these claims. These misconceptions claim
that the vaccines affect the lymphatic, circulatory, and the immune system. The lymphatic system is
the system of vessels, cells, and organs that carries excess fluids to the bloodstream and filters
pathogens from the blood(OpenStax, 2017). The main function of the lymphatic system... Show

The main function of the circulatory system is to keep blood pumping throughout the body,
pumping, on average, 5 liters a minute. Along with pumping blood, the heart pumps waste,
nutrients, and oxygen to other organs. Each artery and vein has a specific function, carrying
blood to and from different parts of the body. The carotid arteries, both external and internal
supply blood to the head. The celiac artery supplies the majority of blood to the trunk, and it is
the only artery which allows the organs it supplies to receive an adequate blood supply. The
subclavian arteries are the main arteries of the upper extremities, but eventually branch off into
the axilla, where they fittingly become known as the axillary arteries. Finally, the second largest
artery of the body, the femoral artery, is the main blood supplier to the lower limbs. The two
main veins of the body are the inferior and superior vena cava. The superior vena cava returns
blood to the right atrium from the upper half of the body. The inferior vena cava does the
opposite, carrying blood from the lower half of the body also to the right atrium. The blood
vessels of the circulatory system and the organs of the lymphatic system work in conjunction in
order to maintain homeostasis. The lymphatic system is able to carry excess fluids to the blood
stream, while also filtering pathogens from the blood. 20 liters of plasma

The Civil Rights Movement Of North Carolina Essay
By the summer of 1964, David Cunningham writes in Klansville, U.S.A., the Carolina Klan
established a demanding schedule of nightly rallies across the state, where they enlisted thousands
of dues paying members. More than that, at its mid 1960s peak the Klan s presence in North
Carolina eclipsed klan membership in all other southern states combined. (Cunningham most likely
put klan in lowercase because of the groups disorganization.) North Carolinashould have been the
state where the KKK thrived most during the mid 1960s Cunningham reports that in mid 1966 it
had 192 Klaverns, (branches of the Ku Klux Klan), and 52.2 percent of the total Klan membership
in the 10 states of the South was a mystery to many and a source of considerable dismay to the
state s leadership, which prided itself on its nonviolent response to the challenges posed by the
civil rights movement. The state had been described by V.O. Key, in his immensely influential (if
now somewhat dated) Southern Politics in State and Nation (1949), as energetic and ambitious
with a reputation for progressive outlook and action in many phases of life, especially industrial
development, education, and race relations, a judgment that had been confirmed by the election in
1960 of a notably capable and progressive governor, Terry Sanford.

Queer Culture
In today s media, it is no longer unusual to see queers in the spotlight whether that is in TV shows,
in celebrity news, or even in advertisements. This definitely seems like a big win for the LGBTQ
movement on the surface but is society actually accepting of queer culture? A prominent big win
for activists was the legalization of gay marriagein 2015. However, many queerstudies scholars are
skeptical of the mainstream LGBTQ movement s focus on marriage rights because it is based on
homonormative politics that continues to uphold oppressive institutions and because it does not
tackle the actual underlying social issues. Instead of focusing on marriage, activists should
prioritize building coalitions based on community values and intersectionality and strive for radical

Along with this, heteronormative institutions, like marriage and the nuclear family structure, are
increasingly being held up as a vision of the good life (Berlant and Warner 173). Not only is this
belief deeply rooted in hetero norms, it also rejects the existence of intimacies outside the nuclear
family structure. Thus, queer public cultures, like Christopher Street in Manhattan, are needed to
provide a space for intimacies outside of marriage, such as girlfriends, gal pals, fuckbuddies, and
tricks (Berlant and Warner 175). Queer public spaces are thus needed to validate unconventional
intimacies and to elaborate a public world of belonging and transformation (Berlant and Warner
175). However, with the rise of neoliberalism, which diverts from the more transformative ideas for
a politically centered approach, some queer activists, most prominently, the Independent Gay

The Theme Of Coming Of Age In F. Scott Fitzgerald s This...
In his novel This Side of Paradise (1920), F. Scott Fitzgerald presents a powerful and compelling
portrait of a young man coming of age during the First World War and its immediate aftermath.
Taking its title from the poem Taire Tahiti by Rupert Brooke, which itself is a meditation upon the
gap between ideal forms of heavenly loveand real forms of earthly love, This Side of Paradise
focuses on how the expectations of the novel s protagonist for himself and for his society do not
often match up with the possibilities available to him from his surrounding environment.
Ultimately, the novel presents an image of the decline of nineteenth century modernity during the
crucial transition period between the two World Wars and the massive changes such decline
wreaked at the time upon the relationship between romantic love and personal wealth. Nowhere
does the tension between romantic love and personal wealth show up more clearly over the course
of the novel than it does in the relationship developed between the protagonist Amory Blaine and

There have been many animated movies that were very popular during the 1940 s and 50 s. Some
are still watched and have been recreated in today s times: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,

the first movie to connect classical music with animations. Directed by James Algar and released in
1940, this movie was the first of its kind, using classical music and creating scenes with animations

Swan Lake Analysis
Matthew Bourne s Swan Lake was first performed at the Sadler Wells Theatre in London in 1995.
Bourne s version of Swan Lake is the longest running ballet in London s West End and on
Broadway. It has been performed in a number different countries such as United Kingdom, Europe,
Australia, South Korea, Japan, Israel and Singapore. Mathew Bourne s rendering is best known for
having traditionally female parts of the swans danced by men. Graeme Murphy version of Swan
Lake is not so much a battle between Odette (Good) and Odile (evil), which is presented through
the original Swan Lake. But it examines love and betrayal, and other elements of the original story.
Through comparing and contrasting Acts 2 and Act 4 of Graeme Murphy s rendering of Swan Lake
and Mathew Bourne s Act 2 and Act 4, this essay will interpret and evaluate how each
choreographer portrays movement and non movement components throughout their piece.
Act 2 By Royal Command, Odette is committed to a sanatorium
Throughout Act 2 by royal command, Odette is determined to a mental institution. Graeme Murphy
effective interprets Movement and non movement components throughout the duration of Act 2. He
uses movement components such as general and personal space, contracting, sustained and
repetition movements. He also interprets Port de bra, Allegro, Chaines and jete. He uses these to
portray the emotion of Odette frustration and here transition into a swan, he also uses abstract and
contracting movements such as

Biological Weapons And Its Uses
Introduction
Dating back to the 1100 s there have been records of the use of biological weapons in warfare.
This involved the usage of human and animal corpses to pollute water sources and to spread
diseases. Post World War One increased interest in biological weapons lead to them becoming
more advanced. With this improvement it is evident that warfare has evolved. This progression
in warfare can be seen when looking at the manner in which wars were fought prior to the
introduction of biological weapons in the 1100 s, and comparing it to the manner in which they
were fought succeeding the advancement of these weapons in the 1900 s. Although biological
weapons have rarely been used, their effects on warfare are apparent. When studying biological
weapons one must deliberate on the factors that have driven its use and creation as well as the
responses and threats thereof. This essay will therefore focus on depicting biological weapons and
their uses throughout history; beginning with its most medieval applications in siege warfare and
comparing it to its various uses in World War One, Japan in the 1920 s , the Cold Warand the
Persian Gulf War. The reasons as to why biological weapons have been used and created differ in
each circumstance, ranging from its advantageousness in imperialism to its role in instilling fear.
Furthermore, to properly determine the impact of biological weapons on warfare this essay will
examine the outcomes of its use. With the main response being the

Social Cost Of Cancer
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, exceeded only by heart disease. In
2011, more than 575,000 people died of cancer, and more than 1.5 million people had a diagnosis of
cancer. Millions more have been affected by cancer directly post diagnosis or indirectly by taking
care of a loved one that had been diagnosed with cancer. The actual cost of such a disease extends
well beyond the number of lives lost and new diagnoses each year. Cancer survivors, as well as
their family members, friends, and caregivers, may face physical, emotional, social, and spiritual
challenges as a result of their cancer diagnosis and treatment. The financial costs of cancer also are
overwhelming. According to the National Institutes of Health,

Example Of The Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation
Think back if you were born in the 1800 s and you had to be raised in slavery time and racism was
a huge issue. How could you handle this as a child growing up with your parents struggling to
take care of you or even getting taken away from your parents. The fugitive slave act came
around in the 1850 s which any slave who ran away shall be captured and punished in jail and pay a
fine slaves didn t make enough money to pay fines so they would sit in prison. Slavery was heavily
forced in the south because they were profit. Also officers were given a bonus and promotions
for catching slaves. The fee of trying to escape was 1,000 dollars and 6 months in prison slaves
didn t make that type of money to even pay half of that price.Slaves were treated so foul it was
very unhuman like .
The beginning, In the 1800 s slavery was a huge issue in the south because African Americans in
the North were free because those were free states and slaves would use the Underground railroad to
escape to the North,Canada,or Mexico. The Emancipation Proclamation, or Proclamation 95, was a
presidential proclamation and executive order out by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1,
1863. It changed the federal legal status of more than 3 million enslaved people in the South
from slave to free people. As and slave escaped the control of the confederate government was by

Colombia Geography
Did you know that Colombia is named after Christopher Columbus? He saw the coasts of what is
now Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama in 1492. He saw the beautiful landscape, and the amazing
diversity of the wildlife and plants. Colombia has maintained these amazing qualities to this day.
That is what makes it Colombia.
There are many landforms in Colombia, each fitting into ecosystems that are intricately unique. The
Amazon river is a habitat for animals (black caimans, piranhas, giant river otters, and pink dolphins)
that are part of the surrounding Amazon rainforest ecosystem. The Colombian landscape is
admittedly in many ways like other South American countries, but is nevertheless astonishing.
There are the Andes mountains, the Amazon rainforest, the grassland plains, and a small area of
desert. Some interesting landforms include the Andean Highlands, the Middle Magdalena Basin,
Mt. Ritacuba Blanco, the Cumbal volcano. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book The Night Of The Treaty
This week I have kept my mind clear of this weekend s plans. Jake would be showing up in a
little bit and after he reminded Edward of the treaty he was going to ride back to La Push with
me. Today was Tiffany s birthday and Embry and I went in together and bought her a present that
we were going to give her. I had stayed up late last night decorating a cake. It was her favorite,
strawberry, and I had put chocolate frosting on top. I even used white frosting that I dyed green to
write Happy Birthday and put flowers around edges.
The phone rang as finished making dinner. I was taking most of it with me to the Call s but I was
leaving some of it for Uncle Charlie s and Bella s dinner. Edward would be bringing Bella home

stare at my four walls for however long Uncle Charlie grounds me for.
Then tell him you felt that it was up to Bella to come clean about what she had been up to. That
tattling is never the answer. Jake said.
If I get in trouble, you get to tell Embry why I am in deep shit. I said. Jake laughed.
Just wait in your room till after I bring the bike. After he screams and yells, come down and offer
to drive me home. We go around the corner and park. I wait until Bella and her leech show up
and I remind them of the treaty. Then we actually head down to the res. You can drop me at Sam
and Emily s and I ll stay there till I go home later. I ll have to report to Sam anyway. Jake said.
Okay. See you in a little bit. I said and hung up.
I wrapped the cake and put it in the back of the car and grabbed the wrapped box that held Embry
s and my gift to Tiffany and put it in the center console. Everything was ready for Jake s big stunt.
I went upstairs to get my homework done while I waited.

Narrative Style Of Zora Neale Hurston
7 2 Final Project 1 Zora Neale Hurston Zora Neale Hurston was one of the greatest authors in the
Harlem Renaissance era, and it saddened me to discover that she died before seizing the benefits
of her literary work of arts. Ms. Hurston was often criticized for her substantial use of southern
country dialect and folk dialogue; she was a master at creating realistic African American works of
fiction. Hurston s style of narrative is divided into direct and indirect dialogue. In her writing, she
would employ a third person narrative voice that was vastly intelligent with scholarly techniques
such as formal grammar, rich vocabulary, vivid imagery, and allegories to define her settings,
locations, and portrayals. Contrariwise, in the same piece, she would display a narrative voice in
first person and third person using slang language, informal grammar, and irregular speech patterns.
Through Hurston s fictitious creations it enables us to appreciate how significant linguistic choices
are used to enrich the production of contemporary literature and how different dualistic styles of
narrative can work together in depicting the narration within that story. Hurston was a talented
anthropologist with an excellent grasp of storytelling, her realistic artistical writing and deep love
for her community and culture showed with every written word in her literary toolbox. Hurston s
passion for studying human behavior, their beliefs, customs, and humanity has assisted in her

Forensic Pathologist Career Essay
My plan after high school graduation, I am going to a 4 year college university, to major in Law
Enforcement/Criminal Justice. The specific field that I want to do is to be a Forensic Pathologist,
they are medical, licensed and certified doctors who examine and conducts tests on dead bodies to
see whether that particular person died from natural causes or unnatural causes, such as taking by
possession or being shot or stabbed.
This specific field is mainly biology, so you have to be an expert in biology in order to fulfil this
career, they deal with toxicology, blood analysis, which is also known as serology, and DNA.
DNA profiles between the victim and their living relatives is enough to confirm they are biological
relatives, thereby helping to confirm their identity. If the living relatives are direct relatives, such
as a parent and an offspring, identification is more straightforward as the amount of shared DNA
markers will be higher than between more distant relatives. they spend majority of their days in
laboratories examining biological specimens and conducting autopsies. You can go to a medical...

Society s Pokemon Impact On Children And Society
Nintendo s Pokemon franchise is a rare beast in a field of short lived children s cultures. The
series, which began in the realm of handheld video games, quickly developed into one of the
longest running anime television series, an ongoing series of manga volumes, feature films,
music and an ever expanding realm of merchandise (McCormick, 2000). The success of Pokemon
is partly attributed to its ability to target a younger demographic almost exclusively. Parents in the
nineties would rush out to pick up a Pikachu themed Gameboy or the latest Pokemon game for the
N64 console for their kids (Buckingham, 2007). The impact of Pokemon on children as a whole is
significant. This research will explore the impacts of Pokemon fandom on children by focusing on
three different aspects: 1) the impact among children; 2) the impact between children and parents,
and; 3) the impact between children and society. For the purpose of this research, we will only

Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous
Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and
asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course.
Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done
through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a
traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e
learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material
found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for
classroom training. Besides my high school years, I have yet to see an educator teach with only a
book in hand. As technology changes, so does asynchronous training. Newer methods of online
training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e
learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time.
According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to
print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor
available. Third generation is training done by individuals/teams with little to no guidance from an
educator . First generation training was successful but obviously had its downfalls. Print based
training gave individuals access to training but no one to

Hysteria In Hemingway s Big Two-Hearted River
In her discussion of shell shock, Elaine Showalter writes, Men were silenced and immobilized and
forced, like women, to express their conflicts through the body. Placed in intolerable circumstances
of stress, and expected to react with unnatural courage, thousands of soldiers reacted instead with
symptoms of hysteria (Showalter 171). In Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River: Part I, Nick
Adams embodies this symptom of hysteria. His actions and interactions with his belongings and
surroundings showcase different dimensions of his recollection of the intolerable circumstances
which he faced in the Great War and the ways in which he seeks to choke his thoughts of the
experience. Nick seeks nature as a source of distraction and recreation.... Show more content on

Nick ponders the timeframe of recovery for the grasshopper much as he must ponder the time it
will take for his own mental state to return to normal. He realized that the fire must have come
the year before, but the grasshoppers were all black now. He wondered how long they would
stay that way (Hemingway 136). Even though they survived, these grasshoppers are scarred. The
color black is notable here in its representation of death while also being connected with a living
insect. Perhaps realizing the similarity between his own condition and that of the grasshopper,
Nick wishes it well and says, Go on, hopper,... Fly away somewhere (Hemingway 136). This
encouragement and interaction gives Nick hope that he can fly away from the struggles of his
own life through camping and fishing, as he did in the past, and also by pushing thoughts of war
from his mind. However, this moment of optimism is interrupted by the return of the heavy pack
to his back. Nick stood up. He leaned his back against the weight of his pack where it rested
upright on the stump and got his arms through the shoulder straps (Hemingway 136). Nick rises

William Golding s Inspiration In Lord Of The Flies
Walker, 1
Golding s Inspiration for Lord of the Flies The years following World War II were times of great
uncertainty in England and throughout the world. An event that shook the world to its core had
just occurred. The United States of America had detonated an atomic bomb over Japan.
(History.com, Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) This one event had citizens of the world
questioning the future existence of mankind. Adding to the chaos, it was revealed in 1949 that
Russia had also developed atomic bomb technology.(History.com, Soviets explode Atomic Bomb )
Two superpowers in conflict with one another now held the threat of a nuclear holocaust at their
fingertips. On October 3, 1952, Great Britain entered the nuclear arms race becoming the third
country in the world to develop the ability to launch an atomic bomb.(History.com, Britain
successfully Tests A Bomb ) With the looming threat of a nuclear world war, Great Britain s role in
the ensuing cold war conflict was influential in William Golding s writing in Lord of the Flies.
According to Golding, his initial inspiration for writing Lord of the Flies came suddenly one
evening, while he and his wife, Ann, were sitting by the fire in a state of complete parental
exhaustion , when, staring into the fire, and thinking of this and that , he had a brainwave:
Wouldn t it be a good idea if I wrote a book about children on an island, children who behave in
the way children really would behave? (Carey, 149) There is little doubt that Golding s years
teaching at the British school in the years following World War II, spending most of his days in
a room full of boys the same age as those he writes about in the novel were influential in his
writing. Also influential were the years he spent serving in the Royal British Navy during World
War II. However, influences of the Cold War, which was unfolding during the years preceding the
book s release, can be recognized throughout the novel. Lord of the Flies is not altogether a work
of fiction created out of Golding s imagination, but rather a product of the historical context of its
time.

Employee Teacher Reflection
Portfolio
It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective
practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that
being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to
state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional
values and ideas.
It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical
incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four
approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and
Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is
important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are
shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation
of the significance of an event (p. 8).
The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and
Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the
pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language.
Incident
My critical incident occurred in the last week of my placement. I was teaching a sequence of

Some of them are already well developed and highly accepted in the marketplace; nonetheless, there are numerous E procurement tools that are immature and require further development (Wang, 2006). For the purpose for this paper, we aim to focus on the E procurementtools that are widely accepted in the government and private sectors. The four most common E procurement tools being used consist of E Sourcing, E Tendering, E Reverse Auction and E Collaboration (Boer et. al., 2001). Diagram 1.3. provides a snapshot of the comparison between different forms of auctioning. Figure 1.3. Comparison between traditional auction and reverse auction E Reverse auction is the opposite of traditional auction. A traditional auction usually involves a seller offering one or more items for sale in the marketplace, and there will be multiple potential buyers compete for the purchase of the item(s) being offered (de Boer et al., 2001). The price is driven up until a stage that no buyers are willing to offer a higher price (de Boer et al., 2001). EBay and Amazon.com could be well known examples of traditional auction on the Internet. In contrary, reverse auction is a process which there are multiple sellers are competing for the business of one single buyer. • 5. Cholera Is An Infectious Bacterial Disease Of The Small... Cholera is an infectious bacterial disease of the small intestine. This bacterium has spread through the world covering about 50 countries that came about through 7 pandemics. This disease is a worldwide public health concern affecting 3 5 million people each year, killing 120,000. Before, it was thought that choleraspread through a sort of fog known as a miasma however now we know the whole mechanism for the cholera toxin. It was discovered that cholera is transmitted through fecal oral transmission and is thus a waterborne bacterium. Although a very deadly and disturbing disease, even without medical education, this disease can be managed and usually even treated. Before science was as far advanced as it is today, people were unsure how cholera was spread or transmitted from person to person. The Europeans and Americans believed it was spread through a miasma (like dirty fog) and got breathed in. Many people also believed it was brought from various immigrant populations or was a disease of the poor. John Snow at the time was one of the few people skeptic of the popular belief that cholera was spread through Miasma. He was a believer instead in a theory put forth by Girolamo Fracastoro known as the germ theory. The germ theory of disease states that some diseases are caused by microorganisms and that reproduction within their hosts can cause a disease. • 6. Theme Of Innocence In To Kill A Mockingbird In To Kill A Mockingbird, author Harper Lee studies the topics of perspective and childhood innocence. Written in 1960, Lee tells the story of Scout Finch and her older brother Jem as they mature during the Great Depression in Maycomb County, Alabama. Scout is first shown to be an innocent and immature child, but as the story develops, her innocent perspective changes to a new awareness of the oppression and injustice in her society. Arthur Boo Radley is characterized as the childrens mysterious neighbor who never goes out of his house, which makes him a victim to gossip and superstition by the people in Maycomb. The children believe the cruel rumors and therefore have a fearful perspective of Boo, using him as an inspiration for their games... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scout and Jem start by being frightened by Boo because of the negative rumors they hear about him. Jem believes that Boo is a monster and Scout describes him as malevolent phantom. It is shown that Scout and Jem do not understand Boo by their imaginative stories and games inspired by him for childhood fun. As the story develops, the children s obsession over seeing and communication with Boo becomes the recognition that Boo wants to be their friend by leaving small and thoughtful gifts for them as communication. When the knothole in the tree where Boo leaves his gifts becomes blocked, they realize that Boo is not a mysterious phantom, but a person oppressed by his brother, who takes away his opportunity to communicate to the children. Although Boo s only way of communication to the children is taken away, it is shown that he continues to watch over them when he covers Scout with a blanket without her knowing to keep her warm and mends Jem s pants. These actions show that Boo is a respectable person and not the monster they believe him to be. When Tom Robinson s trial happens, Scout and Jem begin to have a different understanding of their neighbor. After the trial, Jem knows the racial injustice and prejudice in the people s actions, which helps him realize the reasoning for how Boo lives. Jem says, I think I m beginning to understand something. I think I m beginning to understand why Boo Radley s stayed shut up in the house all this time...It s because he wants to stay inside (227). Jem shows that he understands that Boo does not want to come out of his house because he knows the dangers of prejudice and hate in Maycomb. He makes the choice to stay inside so that he will not be in the mess of humanity and an unjust and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Citizen Journalism The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism and professional journalism In this era, the popularity of citizen journalism has spread throughout all over the world. As a matter of fact, more and more people are starting to take benefit of content publishers. This can be seen in Television news, such as winter snow photos, traffic accidents or local sporting events. However, it leaves a question, what exactly is news anyway? What do you need to be a citizen journalist? What is its impact on today s fast paced society? Basically, a lot of people think this is a great thing and it can be a good tool for promoting interaction between the media community and the community. There are pros and cons of citizen journalism, we need to face this issue critically and dialectically (Techopedia, 2017). On the one hand, citizen journalism has some benefits that professional journalism can not provide. Firstly, comparing with professional journalism, citizen journalism provides a wider range of news and fills the gaps in mainstream media. The main body of the dissemination of citizen journalism is ordinary citizens rather than professional journalists or professional media. People can through the Facebook, microblog,Twitter to publish news which happened around their life. • 8. What Is Tocqueville Relevant Today Alexis De Tocqueville was a French intellectual who lived in the heartland of the enlightenment. He decided to go to America because he thought he saw the outlines of a new kind of society, which would slowly become the kind of society for the rest of the world. He saw at first hand a democratized society with many issues. After his return, from America, he wrote and published the book that made him famous, Democracyin America. Democracy in America discusses many of the issues he encountered, but what he observed in the nineteenth century is still relevant today. The main problems Tocqueville saw facing democratic societies were the danger of democratic despotism, mass society, individualism and the excessive love for equality. I would first like to discuss the democratic despotism. Because democratic despotism is perfectly compatible with rule by majority it is not immediately obvious as despotism. Shifting Women s Views Although we see many shifts taking place in Britain between the Romantic and Victorian periods, such as the abolishment of slavery, the discoveries by astronomers and biologists, as well as this being at the highest point of development as a world power (1017). Throughout the Romantic and Victorian periods of British history, we also witness the emergence of an inner consciousness of women, which denounced those accepted by society at the time. This is illustrated through observing the parallels and contrasts within the writings of Harriet Martineau and Dorothy Wordsworth. The inner reflections of these women writers not only rejects the Angel in the House ideal placed upon women, which is found in The Paragon by , but also contradicts those illustrated in My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover. One can also see that the new emerging consciousness of women was a reflection of the social unrest during these time periods. During the Romantic period, England was experiencing the ordeal of change from a primarily agricultural society, where wealth and power had been concentrated in the landholding aristocracy, to a modern industrial nation (5). Because of these shifts, times were exceedingly difficult for country people, many were displaced from their small family farms, and women had fewer options to support themselves without husbands. Hague Regulations Essay The Hague Regulations The earliest developments in the law of armed conflict were based on the assumption that in a war between two or more states, those who were legitimately entitled to take up arms were the armed forces of those states. Thus armed forces was not a term which required definition. Individual members of the armed forces were combatants, another term which was treated as self evident. The rules of armed conflict therefore were to be applied to armies. The Brussels Declaration formed the basis of the definition of combatant which was incorporated into Articles 1 and 3 of the Regulations annexed to the Hague Convention (II) with Respect to the Laws and Customs of War on Land of 1899 and 1907. In a later development, the Brussels/Hague provisions were incorporated into the 1949 Third Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War, in order to establish the qualifications required to receive prisoner of war treatment. Because there is no definition of combatant as such, it has always been difficult to say whether only members of the armed forces are to be considered combatants. This problem is compounded by the fact that the Hague definition provides that the armed forces can include non combatants, with both categories being entitled to prisoner of war status. In other words, in the Hague formulation, the term armed forces is not limited to those officially engaged in combat. This provision of the Regulations implies that militias are part of the armed forces even though they are not to be considered part of the army, unless the two terms are interchangeable. To sum up, the Hague Regulations did not define the concept of combatant and left it up to each state to decide which members of its armed forces were combatants and which were not. ... The process can easily be derailed by temptations to write strident, overly didactic verse that elevates sentiment above nuance and craft. Regarded as a heroic figure by the myth of manifest destiny, he is conversely seen as a reckless tyrant by those who suffer the effects of his violence. The first stanza reveals a comic figure Starspangled cowboy sauntering through his child like fantasy while pulling a prop from the Hollywood simulacrum that supports his myth. Atwood complicates this image in the second stanza when she introduces violence to her almost /silly characterization of the mythical West. Using a line break to accentuate the transition, she plays the impact of a stand alone line against the expanded meaning of its grammatical context. Isolated, line six ( you are innocent as a bathtub ) relates directly to the opening stanza s child like caricature, forming an aphoristic trope that is both interesting and oddly mundane. Accentuated by the break, the line s reading adds dramatic nuance when its sentence unfolds into a broader meaning: you are innocent as a bathtub / filled with bullets. Contrasting the ironic character of opposed readings (innocent and not at all innocent) within the space of shared words, Atwood foreshadows an overall conceptual structure in which backdrop refers both to the simulacrum of Hollywood sets and to the genuine environment of a beleaguered world. There isn t much debate within the medical community, but there is debate between the medical community and the general public. There are some people in the public who have certain misconceptions about vaccines, a couple being that vaccines cause autism or autoimmune disorders. However, these claims have been studied extensively, and there is no scientific evidence backing these claims. These misconceptions claim that the vaccines affect the lymphatic, circulatory, and the immune system. The lymphatic system is the system of vessels, cells, and organs that carries excess fluids to the bloodstream and filters pathogens from the blood(OpenStax, 2017). The main function of the lymphatic system... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main function of the circulatory system is to keep blood pumping throughout the body, pumping, on average, 5 liters a minute. Along with pumping blood, the heart pumps waste, nutrients, and oxygen to other organs. Each artery and vein has a specific function, carrying blood to and from different parts of the body. The carotid arteries, both external and internal supply blood to the head. The celiac artery supplies the majority of blood to the trunk, and it is the only artery which allows the organs it supplies to receive an adequate blood supply. The subclavian arteries are the main arteries of the upper extremities, but eventually branch off into the axilla, where they fittingly become known as the axillary arteries. Finally, the second largest artery of the body, the femoral artery, is the main blood supplier to the lower limbs. The two main veins of the body are the inferior and superior vena cava. The superior vena cava returns blood to the right atrium from the upper half of the body. The inferior vena cava does the opposite, carrying blood from the lower half of the body also to the right atrium. The blood vessels of the circulatory system and the organs of the lymphatic system work in conjunction in order to maintain homeostasis. The lymphatic system is able to carry excess fluids to the blood stream, while also filtering pathogens from the blood. 20 liters of plasma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Civil Rights Movement Of North Carolina Essay By the summer of 1964, David Cunningham writes in Klansville, U.S.A., the Carolina Klan established a demanding schedule of nightly rallies across the state, where they enlisted thousands of dues paying members. More than that, at its mid 1960s peak the Klan s presence in North Carolina eclipsed klan membership in all other southern states combined. (Cunningham most likely put klan in lowercase because of the groups disorganization.) North Carolinashould have been the state where the KKK thrived most during the mid 1960s Cunningham reports that in mid 1966 it had 192 Klaverns, (branches of the Ku Klux Klan), and 52.2 percent of the total Klan membership in the 10 states of the South was a mystery to many and a source of considerable dismay to the state s leadership, which prided itself on its nonviolent response to the challenges posed by the civil rights movement. The state had been described by V.O. Key, in his immensely influential (if now somewhat dated) Southern Politics in State and Nation (1949), as energetic and ambitious with a reputation for progressive outlook and action in many phases of life, especially industrial development, education, and race relations, a judgment that had been confirmed by the election in 1960 of a notably capable and progressive governor, Terry Sanford. This definitely seems like a big win for the LGBTQ movement on the surface but is society actually accepting of queer culture? A prominent big win for activists was the legalization of gay marriagein 2015. However, many queerstudies scholars are skeptical of the mainstream LGBTQ movement s focus on marriage rights because it is based on homonormative politics that continues to uphold oppressive institutions and because it does not tackle the actual underlying social issues. Thus, queer public cultures, like Christopher Street in Manhattan, are needed to provide a space for intimacies outside of marriage, such as girlfriends, gal pals, fuckbuddies, and tricks (Berlant and Warner 175). Queer public spaces are thus needed to validate unconventional intimacies and to elaborate a public world of belonging and transformation (Berlant and Warner 175). However, with the rise of neoliberalism, which diverts from the more transformative ideas for a politically centered approach, some queer activists, most prominently, the Independent Gay Forum, are opting for less radical changes. Scott Fitzgerald presents a powerful and compelling portrait of a young man coming of age during the First World War and its immediate aftermath. Taking its title from the poem Taire Tahiti by Rupert Brooke, which itself is a meditation upon the gap between ideal forms of heavenly loveand real forms of earthly love, This Side of Paradise focuses on how the expectations of the novel s protagonist for himself and for his society do not often match up with the possibilities available to him from his surrounding environment. Ultimately, the novel presents an image of the decline of nineteenth century modernity during the crucial transition period between the two World Wars and the massive changes such decline wreaked at the time upon the relationship between romantic love and personal wealth. Bourne s version of Swan Lake is the longest running ballet in London s West End and on Broadway. It has been performed in a number different countries such as United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Israel and Singapore. Mathew Bourne s rendering is best known for having traditionally female parts of the swans danced by men. Graeme Murphy version of Swan Lake is not so much a battle between Odette (Good) and Odile (evil), which is presented through the original Swan Lake. • 42. Biological Weapons And Its Uses Introduction Dating back to the 1100 s there have been records of the use of biological weapons in warfare. This involved the usage of human and animal corpses to pollute water sources and to spread diseases. Post World War One increased interest in biological weapons lead to them becoming more advanced. With this improvement it is evident that warfare has evolved. This progression in warfare can be seen when looking at the manner in which wars were fought prior to the introduction of biological weapons in the 1100 s, and comparing it to the manner in which they were fought succeeding the advancement of these weapons in the 1900 s. Although biological weapons have rarely been used, their effects on warfare are apparent. When studying biological weapons one must deliberate on the factors that have driven its use and creation as well as the responses and threats thereof. This essay will therefore focus on depicting biological weapons and their uses throughout history; beginning with its most medieval applications in siege warfare and comparing it to its various uses in World War One, Japan in the 1920 s , the Cold Warand the Persian Gulf War. The reasons as to why biological weapons have been used and created differ in each circumstance, ranging from its advantageousness in imperialism to its role in instilling fear. Furthermore, to properly determine the impact of biological weapons on warfare this essay will examine the outcomes of its use. With the main response being the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Narrative Style Of Zora Neale Hurston 7 2 Final Project 1 Zora Neale Hurston Zora Neale Hurston was one of the greatest authors in the Harlem Renaissance era, and it saddened me to discover that she died before seizing the benefits of her literary work of arts. Ms. Hurston was often criticized for her substantial use of southern country dialect and folk dialogue; she was a master at creating realistic African American works of fiction. Hurston s style of narrative is divided into direct and indirect dialogue. In her writing, she would employ a third person narrative voice that was vastly intelligent with scholarly techniques such as formal grammar, rich vocabulary, vivid imagery, and allegories to define her settings, locations, and portrayals. Contrariwise, in the same piece, she would display a narrative voice in first person and third person using slang language, informal grammar, and irregular speech patterns. Through Hurston s fictitious creations it enables us to appreciate how significant linguistic choices are used to enrich the production of contemporary literature and how different dualistic styles of narrative can work together in depicting the narration within that story. The success of Pokemon is partly attributed to its ability to target a younger demographic almost exclusively. Parents in the nineties would rush out to pick up a Pikachu themed Gameboy or the latest Pokemon game for the N64 console for their kids (Buckingham, 2007). The impact of Pokemon on children as a whole is significant. This research will explore the impacts of Pokemon fandom on children by focusing on three different aspects: 1) the impact among children; 2) the impact between children and parents, and; 3) the impact between children and society. • 52. Types Of E Learning Synchronous And Asynchronous Through research I have learned that there are two types of e learning synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous referring to a specific hour where both parties meet for the course. Asynchronous is using computer sources for course material and contact with instructor is done through online programs (Bubatu). Synchronous it the type of training one would expect from a traditional classroom training. However, today s traditional classroom training also incorporates e learning tools. Whether the instructor is using a power point presentation, video, or material found on a website, it s important to recognize that technology has become very important for classroom training. Besides my high school years, I have yet to see an educator teach with only a book in hand. As technology changes, so does asynchronous training. Newer methods of online training become available every day. E Learning has been around for decades. Knowing that e learning is constantly changing before our eyes, let s look at how e learning has evolved over time. According to Nicoleta Florea, There are three generations of e learning. First generation referring to print based correspondence. Second generation refers to the use of multimedia an instructor available. Third generation is training done by individuals/teams with little to no guidance from an educator . First generation training was successful but obviously had its downfalls. Print based training gave individuals access to training but no one to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Hysteria In Hemingway s Big Two-Hearted River In her discussion of shell shock, Elaine Showalter writes, Men were silenced and immobilized and forced, like women, to express their conflicts through the body. Placed in intolerable circumstances of stress, and expected to react with unnatural courage, thousands of soldiers reacted instead with symptoms of hysteria (Showalter 171). In Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River: Part I, Nick Adams embodies this symptom of hysteria. His actions and interactions with his belongings and surroundings showcase different dimensions of his recollection of the intolerable circumstances which he faced in the Great War and the ways in which he seeks to choke his thoughts of the experience. Nick seeks nature as a source of distraction and recreation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick ponders the timeframe of recovery for the grasshopper much as he must ponder the time it will take for his own mental state to return to normal. He realized that the fire must have come the year before, but the grasshoppers were all black now. He wondered how long they would stay that way (Hemingway 136). Even though they survived, these grasshoppers are scarred. The color black is notable here in its representation of death while also being connected with a living insect. Perhaps realizing the similarity between his own condition and that of the grasshopper, Nick wishes it well and says, Go on, hopper,... Fly away somewhere (Hemingway 136). This encouragement and interaction gives Nick hope that he can fly away from the struggles of his own life through camping and fishing, as he did in the past, and also by pushing thoughts of war from his mind. However, this moment of optimism is interrupted by the return of the heavy pack to his back. Nick stood up. He leaned his back against the weight of his pack where it rested upright on the stump and got his arms through the shoulder straps (Hemingway 136). Nick rises after his contemplation of flight only to feel the weight of his war experience back on his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dawn The obsessive compulsive babysitter with a mad temper who was completely infatuated by Ruby and wanted to be just like her. She always pretened to be the best babysitter for Ruby by acting like a big sister however when Ruby wasn t there she would go down in her basement and make dolls which would resemble Ruby. She would make hundreds of them day and night until she would make a perfect one. One she had made them she would dismantle them signifying her absolute hatred for the girl and how much better Ruby was then she was. The dolls would symbolise the same things, as the voodoo dolls so anything dawn did to them she thought the same would happen to Ruby. She was the one responsible for giving Ruby her doll and created the pieces, which could be sent to Sylvie, and Ray s house however she was not the one who sent them. • 55. William Golding s Inspiration In Lord Of The Flies Walker, 1 Golding s Inspiration for Lord of the Flies The years following World War II were times of great uncertainty in England and throughout the world. An event that shook the world to its core had just occurred. The United States of America had detonated an atomic bomb over Japan. (History.com, Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) This one event had citizens of the world questioning the future existence of mankind. Adding to the chaos, it was revealed in 1949 that Russia had also developed atomic bomb technology.(History.com, Soviets explode Atomic Bomb ) Two superpowers in conflict with one another now held the threat of a nuclear holocaust at their fingertips. On October 3, 1952, Great Britain entered the nuclear arms race becoming the third country in the world to develop the ability to launch an atomic bomb.(History.com, Britain successfully Tests A Bomb ) With the looming threat of a nuclear world war, Great Britain s role in the ensuing cold war conflict was influential in William Golding s writing in Lord of the Flies. According to Golding, his initial inspiration for writing Lord of the Flies came suddenly one evening, while he and his wife, Ann, were sitting by the fire in a state of complete parental exhaustion , when, staring into the fire, and thinking of this and that , he had a brainwave: Wouldn t it be a good idea if I wrote a book about children on an island, children who behave in the way children really would behave? (Carey, 149) There is little doubt that Golding s years teaching at the British school in the years following World War II, spending most of his days in a room full of boys the same age as those he writes about in the novel were influential in his writing. Also influential were the years he spent serving in the Royal British Navy during World War II. However, influences of the Cold War, which was unfolding during the years preceding the book s release, can be recognized throughout the novel. Lord of the Flies is not altogether a work of fiction created out of Golding s imagination, but rather a product of the historical context of its time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Employee Teacher Reflection Portfolio It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and ideas. It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p. 8). The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language. Incident My critical incident occurred in the last week of my placement. I was teaching a sequence of Literacy lessons to a class of 27 students. The objective of the ...
