Marc Case Study
MARC LAAR, 30, frantically races his cop car to the closest hospital. Detroit police officer
KELLY CAINE, 27, sits slumped in his passenger seat, moments from bleeding out from a
gunshot wound to her neck. Marc does his job. Kelly s life remains in the hands of the hospital
surgeons. Witnessing the tramatic event takes Marc back to 2007, Somalia, and the days when he
served as a U.S. Navy SEAL.
Ambush! An explosion rocks Marc s SEAL team, decimating the entire unit. Those that survived the
blast are dug in, ferociously battling Insurgents. Marc and CHRISTINE, 25, (a Federal Agent
assigned to assist the team with their covert mission) are the only two who survive the ambush. On
the run through Somalia, they both must hold out until allied extraction ... Show more content on

Marc learns these drugs are linked to Arcadia, the name of a utopian neighborhood financed and
built on the bulldozed streets of Detroit by billionaire investor TAKAO HIRANO who is secretly a
mega drug czar. The Detroit police organize a strike team into Arcadia to dispatch the flow of
illegal narcotics.
With time before the raid, Marc visits a recovering Kelly inside of the hospital. Thanks to Marc,
she is expected to make a full recovery. After officially meeting Marc for the first time since the
traumatic incident, Kelly immediately falls for her rescuer. As a token of her appreciation she
insists Marc accept her dad s lucky knife, which he does.
The police take out the drug dealers and secure millions worth of illegal product. The heroes of
Detroit claim their notariety. It turns out that Marc has mistakenly left Kelly s knife back at
Arcadia, somewhere at the scene of the illegal seizure. Unwilling to dissapoint his new lady
crush, Marc and Spirit quietly slip into Arcadia to retrieve the old blade, that is until her super
sensitive nose leads them to a second shipment of drugs. This billion dollar stash is ready to be
distributed onto the streets of America. The earlier shipment seized by the police was simply a
distraction for this mega truck

Essay on Faraday
Faraday
It is not my intention to lay before you a life of Faraday in the ordinary accepting of the term.
The duty I have to perform is to give you some notion of what he has done in the world; dwelling
incidentally on the spirit in which his work was executed, and introducing such personal traits as
may be necessary to the completion of your picture of the philosopher, though by no means
adequate to give you a complete idea of the man. Michael Faraday was born at Newington Butts,
on September 22, 1791, and he died at Hampton Court, on August 25, 1867. When thirteen years
old, that is to say in 1804, Faraday was apprenticed to a bookseller and bookbinder where he spent
eight years of his life, after which he worked as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this time he was acquiring, not producing; working hard for his master and storing and
strengthening his own mind. He assisted Mr. Brande in his lectures, and so quietly, skillfully,
and modestly was his work done, that Mr. Brande s vocation at the time was pronounced
lecturing on velvet. In 1820 Faraday published a chemical paper on two new compounds of
chlorine and carbon, and on a new compound of iodine, carbon, and hydrogen. This paper was
read before the Royal Society on December 21, 1820, and it was the first of his that was honored
with a place in the Philosophical Transactions. On June 12, 1821, he married, and obtained leave to
bring his young wife into his rooms at the Royal Institution. There for forty six years they lived
together, occupying the suite of apartments which had been previously in the successive occupancy
of Young, Davy, and Brande. At the time of her marriage Mrs. Faraday was twenty one years of
age, he being nearly thirty. Oersted, in 1820, discovered the action of a voltaic current on a
magnetic needle; and immediately afterwards the splendid intellect of Ampere succeeded in
showing that every magnetic phenomenon then known might be reduced to the mutual action of
electric currents. This attracted Faraday s attention to the subject. He read much about it; and in the
months of July, August, and September he wrote a history of the progress of electromagnetism,
which he published in Thomson s

Washington Irving Contributions
After the first wave of immigrants settled in America, it was up to the next generation, their
children, to isolate themselves from European cultures. One such child of the second generation
was Washington Irving, who felt inspired by both his country s history and stories of other cultures
told by fellow immigrants, to be the catalyst for a new wave of literature. Through the perfectly
captured spirit of America in his work, Washington Irvingwas the first to show the rest of the world
what his country had to offer to the literary world.
Washington Irving was born in New York City in 1783, named after General George Washington
who led the United States to winning the American Revolution. He was the youngest of eleven
siblings to Scottish English parents, and was taught by them at home. Under his brother Peter, an
editor for the newspaper The Morning Chronicle, Washington started writing for him at age 18.
He published essays and letters under the name Jonathan Oldstyle, the first of various
pseudonyms used throughout his literary career. In 1804, Washington left for France originally
to inquire about his health, but was so charmed by the people and culture that he decided to stay
and travel to other countries in Europe like the Netherlands, Wales, and Spain for the next two
years. After returning to New York City, Irving began practicing law, working as a clerk under
Josiah Ogden Hoffman. As a child, he seemed to be more of a daydreamer than a scholar, and was
more interested in socializing and working with his friends.
With his brother William and friend James Kirke Paulding, Washington started the Salmagundi
Papers, also known as The Opinions of Launcelot Langstaff in 1809. These essays served as
satirical periodicals to offset the other, gloomier news articles of the time. While short lived, it
was met with success and positive reviews, people appreciating its Swift esque sense of humor
and style. That same year, he was inspired to write History of New York from the Beginning of
the World to the End of the Dutch Dynasty, a historical novel being his first major work under
Diedrich Knickerbocker. Irving broke away from writing a little while afterward, even enlisting to
fight in the War of 1812 for some

Political Changes In The Progressive Era
The history of the United States shows an improvement in its civilization from its origin to the
present. From the independence of the U.S. to the Civil Rights Movement. However, the biggest
change occurred during the Progressive Era; a time period where new ways of thinking started to
develop towards a more fair country. The social aspect had the biggest impact followed by political
changes and some economical. The first political change happened when the muckrakers decided
that the political parties were corrupt and people in the business industry had too much saying in
what the government did. For that reason the muckrakers decided to go against the railroads, the
primary industry that exercised power over the government (Brinkley 478). This was known as the
trust buster regulation, where monopolies were seeing as unfair and corrupt business. Even though
corruption was reduced, the muckrakers also sought to take out power from the bosses, who... Show

Subsequently, the recall proposal came allowing voters to remove any official if sufficient voters
had signed a petition (484 485). Nevertheless to mention, the most remembered political movement
of the Progressive Era was Woman Suffrage. Women were part of the politics of the U.S. behind the
scenes, many of them proposed regulations to their husbands without getting recognition, but during
the Progressive Era, women were ready to change that. They founded clubs as the General
Federation of Women s Club (481). The suffrage movement started around the 1890 s but gained
strength after a decade. The argument wasn t that women were

The Heroes Deed Analysis
What s the difference between a hero and a regular person? Joseph Campbell describes the
difference as the way you respond to the trials in front of you, the way you answer the heroes
deed . The heroes deed, as described by Campbell, is overcoming the challenges you are faced
with in a way that uplifts those around you. Often times you are challenged to respond to things
for the first time, what Campbell describes as an original experience. This can be problematic
because as humans we tend to like things that are habitual and comfortable, both of which make it
difficult to be pushed outside of our comfort zone. There is something heroic about embracing the
heroes deed not knowing what could happen. The heroes deed allows us to enter new boundaries

Why Is Phineas Gage Lucky
Phineas Gage, Lucky or Unlucky?
Survivors of traumatic brain injury are lucky. Two examples of lucky traumatic brain injury
survivors are Phineas Gage and Gary Busey. These two are lucky along with the other millions of
traumatic brain injury survivors. Phineas Gage and Gary Busey were both lucky because they
were given a second chance at life. In addition both narrowly evaded death. Phineas Gage, a
traumatic brain injury survivor, was lucky. The first reason Phineas Gage was lucky is that the
tamping iron that went through his head took a path that did not kill him. Phineas could have died
in over twenty different ways if the tamping iron had taken a different path through his head. I
know this because in the book Phineas Gage it states

Admittedly, we fail to have a sensory impression of the soul thus the idea does not exist as
demonstrated by Hume s theory. However, our senses are not always reliable since our brain can
be tricked to see, feel, or hear something that is not there. For instance, in the television show
Brain Games, a show about perception and the brain reveals in several different sets of illusions
that the our senses are not always trustworthy. In the first episode Watch This , Brain Games in
particular messes with the human senses in various illusions studied by different scientists and
researchers. For example, the narrator at the beginning of the episode posses the question about

great deal of contribution to the book Snow Crash because of the virus, Snow Crash. The
significance of the metaverse is the escape of reality it allows its users to feel. The contribution
is almost the same, but the contribution adds an element of reality and happiness. Snow Crash
Snow Crash itself is not a person, but if a person were to be chosen, it would be Raven, the

Winston s personal utopia was most likely the bedroom he and Julia rented from Mr.
Charrington. Like in Snow Crash, Winston s desperation with reality lead him to create his own
utopia where he could get a glimpse of freedom and happiness. The dystopia in 1984 is
everything else outside of the bedroom in Mr. Charrigtons shop. The Book of Eli does not have
a utopia throughout the movie. The closest the movie comes to revealing a utopia is towards the
end when the Bible begins to go through the printing press and when Solara goes back to her
town to potentially make it better. The majority of the movie is dystopian. The Book of Eli does
not break the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a dystopia because it does not have a utopia.
In the Hunger Games the utopia is the Capitol, and the dystopia is the Districts. The people of the
Capitol have better clothing, housing, food, and many more luxuries than the people of the
Districts have. While the people of the Capitol might think they live in a utopia, it is not truly a
utopia because there are people suffering and killing each other among the districts to provide
entertainment for the Capitol. Over all none of the books and films we have read and seen break
the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a

Native American Culture
Native Americans have a complex relationship to American culture because they are the only
indigenous people of the United States and modern Native Americans are still members of tribes
and nations that have their own sovereignty and rights. Since the first ship landed on American
soil, European took control of Native Americans visual sovereignty and how Native American
could express their culture. The only way to best represent a culture is having someone from their
own culture being able to express themselves. Historically, Native Americans have faced
changelings in controlling their own visually sovereignty in film and other media with
stereotypical portrayals that benefited the white middle class Americans. As Native Americans
began to fight back against these portrayals and gaining their own political sovereignty, films
began to be produced by Native Americans, such as Imagining Indians and Atanarjuat: The Fast
Runner, for them to best represent their culture and way of life. When Native Americans first
started being shown in films and other media, they were used to portray stereotypical white ideas
which as how they appear and act with others. As seen in Professor Boger s lecture (10/25), the
Buffalo Bill Wild West Show starting in 1883 restaged historical battles that hired numerous Native
American performers. After the success of the show, many more motion pictures and feature films
were created with the idea of Hollywood American that were either shown as

Designing the Perfect State
From the ancient to the modern, societies have always been striving to create the perfect state.
Philosophers, such as Plato and Lao Tsu, have provided opinions for centuries as to what constitutes
this state. The perfect state is one in which true cooperation exist, allowing the state to effectively
overcome any problem. Although some argue absolute collaboration is unreachable, the reality is
that with a set of fundamental elements this state is possible. To establish this society, there must
exist an equal distribution of wealth, to eliminate the conflict caused by social stratification. There
would be a strict division of labor based on each individual s strengths, allowing the growth of
interdependence. Additionally, there would exist censorship from unnecessary knowledge to
eliminate distractions from collaboration. Furthermore, there must exist a shared leadership system,
allowing for collaboration between multiple leaders and eliminating conflicts caused by
dictatorship. Characterized by these four elements, the perfect state would be one capable of
efficiently maintaining full collaboration, allowing for effective problem solving. The ideal state
would have an equal distribution of wealth, because a state in which the populace is at constant
competition with each other cannot remain truly cooperative. This would allow for detachment
from wealth, decreasing conflict between individuals. Lao Tsu once said the claim of wealth and
attachment to things will cause

How Is Lennie Different In Of Mice And Men
Being different can make it hard to be accepted by others. They tend to push the abnormal people
away even if there s nothing they can do to change the way society sees them. In the novel, Of
Mice and Men, Lennie, a very needy and troublesome man, isn t accepted because of the way he
acts and talks to others. Lennie is not accepted for many reasons like how he acts like a child
and never really speaks for himself. Since Lennie does whatever George tells him to do, he tries
blaming George for his actions. For example, while Curley was looking at his crushed hand in
wonder Lennie said You tol me to do it George, (pg 64). Without questioning George, Lennie obeys
every command making him subservient. Because he does whatever he is told he is... Show more

Since Lennie is a strong man, he cannot control his power sometimes. For example, Curley s
wife let Lennie touch her hair and when Lennie panicked and wouldn t let go Curley s wife was

but ends up with different results due to his strength. Lennie is unstable due to the fact that
when he tries to do good he doesn t understand his own strength which leads to bad things. After
Lennie couldn t control his desire to touch soft things, George had to help him escape Weed. As
George was telling Slim the story of what happened in Weed he stated The guys in Weed start a
party to lynch Lennie. So we hid in an irrigation ditch under water the rest of that day. Got onl
our heads sticking out from the side of the ditch. An that night we scrammed out of there, (pg 42).
Lennie can never get out of a problem on his own because he is inadequate. Due to Lennie being a

A common problem regarding compliance with the influenza vaccine is patients misconceptions
that the vaccine itself can potentially cause them to contract the flu. As sentinels at the forefront of
health of the community, it is critical (albeit profoundly challenging) for pharmacists to educate
patients on these misunderstandings. First and foremost, the inactivated vaccineby definition cannot
cause the flu. Inactivated viruses are so named because they have been relieved of their ability to
replicate themselves within cells and thus cannot cause disease. It is also important to note that the

The subteams continued to fall behind schedule, but the delivery date remained firm. The timeline

mounting stress and confusion: Tensions had gotten to the point where people were actually
storming out of meetings because they were frustrated by what they were being asked to do on
short notice or without sufficient information.
In September, the U.S. core team members felt they needed to escalatetheir concerns. After

Division. According to Frank, Lance, who was also based in the U.S., took his concerns seriously
and promised to act. I assumed, said Frank, that meant Lance would work through Didier, perhaps

and throughout the project overall. Instead, Lance chose another approach. He sent an e mail

Summary Of The Dispossessed By Ursula Le Guin
My book The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin was written in 1974 Oregon. Ursula Le Guin
was a daughter of an anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber and a writer Theodora Krakaw. She
was a talented child, interested in biology and poetry. Her first science fiction story was published
when she was 11, in a magazine called Astounding Science Fiction. She finished Berkeley High
School and completed studies of French and Italian literature at the Radcliffe College and the
Columbia University (Nixon). In my opinion, Ursula K. Le Guin wrote her novelin order to show a
totally different and intriguing perspective of life. The book was written for people with an open
mind, who are ready to consider an absurd way of life and thinking. The author... Show more

Le Guin requires the reader to think, and also it allows the reader to create his own opinion
about the events happening. Most of the book is not written in a way that condemns either of
the leading aspects: capitalism and anarchism. Instead of criticizing, Le Guin presents the facts,
the events and feelings of an anarchist. And now, by expressing feelings of an anarchist, a
reader may say: Well, the book is certainly one sided! . However, as the book is intended to be
read by open minded humans, who most often live in democratic/semi capitalist societies, we
have an immediate bias towards capitalism. The reason for presenting Shevek s point of view,
according to me, is contrasting our own capitalist, money centered thoughts. I think that the whole
purpose of the book is challenging our points of view and presenting some that we have never
considered, nor thought of considering. The value of the book is to make us more creative. The
Dispossessed does not follow rules and it requires the reader to question the rules, the government
and social behaviors that we have been taught since we were children. I find the book very
interesting and intriguing. However, I cannot see any practical implications for The Dispossessed ,
because it requires too much perfection and change from the human race. It wants all humans to be
equal like in communism, it wants them to benefit to society as much as they can, it does not
accept any laziness, authority,

Essay about Americans Have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Americans Have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Our rights as Americans started to take shape when the Constitution of the United States was drawn
up by the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Three years later, a very
important part of American history called the Bill of Rights was added. The Bill of Rights is
looked upon and interpreted every day. It gives the citizens of the United States many of the rights
and freedoms that we value today, and some of those are in jeopardy. One right that is at stake is
our right to bear arms, which is addressed in the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is a
highly debatable topic, and many legal scholars and the Supreme Court have yet to resolve the

Several states have added right to carry laws, while others have made it illegal to possess a
concealed weapon (Smith 22). Most of the additional laws deal with the ownership and use of
handguns and assault type weapons. There has been much debate and government lobbying
dealing with the passing of gun laws. Many people think the government is focusing too much on
the laws about guns, because 90 percent of all violent crime in the United States does not involve
any type of firearm (Smith 17). Other countries around the world have also set examples by having
gun laws. Guns are banned in the United Kingdom, and the crime rate has risen since that time
(Smith 24). Also, within the United States, the crime rate in the states is lower if the states have
right to carry laws (Smith 22). The other major problem with gun laws in the United States is that
they are simply not being enforced (Smith 15). These facts and others involving the positive uses of
guns are argued in court rooms and government offices around the country every day. As
government officials study the facts and make laws, they continue to maintain the people s right to
bear arms.
When thinking about the people s right to bear arms, it is appropriate to know that not all stories
about guns are bad. Guns are not always used for violence, and the government seems to be
keeping this fact in mind. Positive stories about people having their lives saved by guns seem to

Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble
In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique
articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built
from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass
instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet,
horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar
timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive.
Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is risky, due to the
fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult... Show more content on

The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be
assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is
presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows
for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance
they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where
everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct
difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble.
The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73
Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect
for summing up the themes of the movement.
In Gunther Schuller s second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes brass
instruments range, articulations, and muting abilities to create an unstable rhythmically complex
piece that still carries a melodic

Myth Of Korea Essay
Grains have been one of the most important staples of the Korean diet. Early myths of the
foundations of various kingdoms in Korea center on grains. One foundation myth relates to
Jumong, who received barley seeds from two doves sent by his mother after establishing the
kingdom of Goguryeo.[4] Yet another myth speaks of the three founding deities of Jeju Island,
who were to be wed to the three princesses of Tamna; the deities brought seeds of five grains which
were the first seeds planted, which in turn became the first instance of farming.[5]
During the pre modern era, grains such as barley and millet were the main staples and were
supplemented by wheat, sorghum, and buckwheat. Rice is not an indigenous crop to Korea, and
millet was likely the preferred grain before rice was cultivated. Rice became the grain of choice
during the Three Kingdoms period, particularly in the Silla and Baekje Kingdoms in the southern
regions of the peninsula. Rice was such an important commodity in Silla that it was used to pay
taxes. The Sino Korean word for tax is a compound character that uses the character for the rice
plant. The preference for rice escalated into the Joseon period, when new methods of cultivation and
new varieties emerged that would help increase production.[6] ... Show more content on

The most traditional method of cooking the rice has been to cook it in an iron pot called a sot

Appalachian Spring Concert Report
Exposition IV: An Appalachian Spring, is a performance of various musicians within Virginia Tech
s School of Performing Arts. The event took place at Moss Arts Center in the Anne and Ellen Fife
theater, with musicians stationed on stage and on the side balconies. A different instrument section
played each segment of the performance, including: horn ensemble, string ensemble, bassoonists,
percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, the Linux Laptop Orchestra, Kinect sensor and computer, and
male and female choirs. This exposition was held in order to benefit the performing arts scholarship
program at Virginia Tech, but it seemed that the performance had the goal of showing off the
individual ensemble s talents, and, in the end, combining those talents.
Growing up in the Appalachians, I have had plenty of experience with bluegrass and folk, and the
wide range of the culture that has had influences on the music. Due to my background, I ve heard
two of the three songs which were being adapted. I attended the exposition curious to see how
Bigler would adapt the music to an orchestra, having heard him discuss this in class. Since the

What is the key structural question which is discussed in this chapter and why is this question
important?
The report Small Business Taxationwritten by Claire Crawford and Judith Freedman (2008) focuses
on how small businesses are taxed and how improvements can be made to the system. The focal
point is on the impenetrability created by taking different approaches when taxing diverse
businesses with different legal forms. Crawford and Freedman look into depth of the differences
between taxing an employed and self employed contractor. Although all aspects and issues of
taxation within a small business are not covered it does provide background information on the key
structural question. The structural issues have been brought to attention for a number of years
however more recently this has had an impact with the UK resulting in the introduction, diminution
and the extraction of the starting rate of the corporation tax and for the increasing rates of national
insurance contributions imposed on the employed and self employed. These changes have
emphasised on the tax advantages for the self employed and significantly, the incorporated

Beginning at around age 35 in both men and women, calcium is lost and bones become less dense.
This can result in osteoporosis and a reduction of weight bearing capacity, leading to the possibility
of spontaneous fracture. Thinning of the vertebrae also results in a reduction in height. In addition,
the vertebrae calcify, resulting in postural changes and increasing rigidity, making bending
difficult. The joints also undergo changes. In fact, arthritis, the degenerative inflammation of the
joints, is the most common chronic condition in the elderly. The two most common forms are:
В•osteoarthritis (a wearing away of the joint cartilage) В•rheumatoid arthritis (a disease of the
connective tissue) These conditions can impair mobility and the performance of daily activities of
living. For persons with disabilities this condition may occur at an earlier age. As we age, we
experience a reduction in the production of hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes, and saliva, as
well as a reduction in the total number of taste buds. These changes can result in: В•gastrointestinal
distress В•impaired swallowing В•delayed emptying of the stomach Perhaps more importantly, the
breakdown and absorption of foods may also be impaired, sometimes resulting in vitamin
deficiencies of B, C, and K vitamins or, in extreme cases, malnutrition. If left untreated, these
deficiencies may result in: В•

Similarities And Differences Between Coming To America And...
The following essay will compare and contrast two cultural productions that represent and depict
Africa. The films Coming to America by John Landis and The Gods Must Be Crazy by Jamie Uys
have similarities and differences according to the meaning of Africa. The similarities of these films
are the use of the current English language, religion, comedy relief, traditions, and interpretation of
Africans single story . The differences of these films are the time period, locations, clothing,
articulation, and reputation. The cultural productions of Coming to America and The Gods Must
Be Crazycan be compared and contrasted because both films exhibit a relationship that depicts how
we think about Africanot as a place, but as people as a whole in the modern world. The depiction
of the movie Coming to America and The God Must Be Crazy can be compared and contrasted
on the films locations. In Coming to America Prince Akeem Joffer is from the nation of
Zamunda, which is a fictional location. This location is only seen in the beginning and end of the
film. The nation of Zamunda depicts the idea of Africa as a land of substantial wealth. In addition,
Africa as people has the highest level of status and rights like having arranged marriages. In
contrast, The Gods Must Be Crazy is set in Botswana, South Africa in the Kalahari Desert.... Show

Utilizing Psychotherapy and Pharmacotherapy to Treat Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder The survival status of burn victims is increasing and although this is an achievement for
the medical field, it means that many burn victims are left dealing with psychiatric issues such as
stress, depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Willebrand, Anderson
Ekeselius, 2004). PTSD is an anxiety disorder that results from a traumatic event in which the client
s life was or perceived to be threatened (Lonergan, 2014). There are three cardinal categories of
signs and symptoms of PTSD: re experiencing (flashbacks), avoidance/numbing and hyper arousal
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). A female adult is admitted two months post burn to a
mental health clinic located in the city. Upon further inquiry, the physician diagnoses her with
PTSD based on her reported symptoms, using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorder (American et al., 2013). Collaborating with the mental health nurses results in two nursing
strategies that are planned focusing on the current gold standard to treating the symptoms that
characterize PTSD. This paper will outline two evidenced based strategies that a nurse can

Corporate Charities The Right and Wrong Ways for Big Business to Give Back to the Community
Introduction
Why do people who have money feel inclined to give it away? Throughout history, reasons for
philanthropy have ranged from guilt to concern for personal image, from religious principles to
simple generosity. America is awash with corporateCEO s who have so much money that they
could never spend it in a lifetime. What is pocket change to them could save thousands of lives in a
third world country. And yet only some of them choose to give their money away. Even then some
of the ones who do are not charitable out of the goodness of their heart but do it purely to make
themselves look better in the eyes of the public. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wal Mart makes claims of giving to the community through its employment of workers and
supposed charitable foundations. At the homepage of Wal Mart s Good Works Foundation one
will notice a quotation claiming that Wal Mart is the largest employer of Hispanic Americans in
the United States. This may very well be true, but is not indicative of anything good or noteworthy
as will be come apparent in my discussion to follow. ...But are these employees treated well?
Some notable contributions Wal Mart has made to local communities include giving over $85
million in community grants to date, $206 million to local United Way chapters since 1983, more
than $293 million in 16 years for Children s Miracle Network (CMN), $80 million in scholarships
since 1979 and $1.8 million in environmental grants in the year of 2003. The scope of these charities
, however, has been limited to only those communities that have a Wal Mart store. The foundations
website even has a small disclaimer at the bottom saying that eligibility for funding from the
foundation requires that the program be in a Wal Mart community. So wherever there is a Wal
Mart store, there is philanthropy, but nowhere else. What is ironic about this is the fact that the
communities that are hurt most by the Wal Mart Corporation are those that have a Wal Mart store!
Ultimately all of Wal Mart s claims of philanthropy can really be

P3 Explain patterns and trends in health and illness among different social groupings
Gender
Men and women have different levels of risks of getting mental illnesses such as alcohol
dependency. This is more than twice as high in men than women. In developed countries,
approximately 1 in 5 men and 1 in 12 women develop alcohol dependence during their lives
WHO 2015. This clearly shows that men and women have different risks when it comes to health
and illness. Men are also twice as likely to have personality disorders, but women are more likely
to have anxiety and depression than men are. Women have more accounts of sexual harassment and
rape and this has a knock on effect to the amount of people with depression.

This could be due to the environment in which they live or the DNA of the ethnic group. Some
ethnic groups do not report long term illnesses so this may affect the statistics. Asians also have a
high level of illness as they do not live the same as the western world, for example due to religion
and personal preference some Asians do not eat meat which can have a direct effect on their health.
Also travellers and gypsys live in places with poor sanitation such as caravans and makeshift camps
which do not have flushing toilets and other hygiene products. This may put their health at risk.
Age
People of older age are more likely to have long term or fatal illnesses In 1995, only 21% of all
deaths were among the under 5s, 7% among those 5 19, 29% among those 20 64, and 43% among
the over 65s. By 2025, 8% of all deaths will be in the under 5s, 3% among 5 19 year olds, 27%
among 20 64 year olds and 63% among the over 65s. WHO 2015. Cancer, Heart disease and
more commonly related to the 70 75 age group and also people aged 75 and above have more

Surgical Treatment Of Surgical Site Infection
Surgical site infections are estimated to occur in 3% of surgical patients and cost the healthcare
system billions of dollars every year. Surgical site infection contributes to an increased risk of
morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing a surgical procedure. This paper will present
preventative evidence based practice undertaken by healthcare personnel to prevent the occurrence
of surgical site infection. These practices include but are not limited to the appropriate
administration of prophylactic antimicrobial agents and the benefits to patients, the preoperative
hair removal methods by shaving versus clipping and in many cases whether hair removal is
necessary or is carried out as a ritual.
Surgical site infections (SSIs) within a 30 day period of an operative procedure can contribute to an
increased risk of morbidity and mortality every year. To prevent the occurrence of an SSI,
healthcare professionals must include a scrupulous operative technique, administration of
appropriate antimicrobial prophylaxis and minimize the introduction of contamination by hospital
personnel and operating room environment. The student wishes to emphasize specifically the
importance of skin preparation to prevent surgical site infection.

The Problem Of Social Security
Social Security Benefits
The Problem Social Security Faces: The concept of the graying of America is becoming a more
pressing issue as the baby boomer population is coming of age to retire. Between years 2000 to
2010, the number of Americans aged 65 and older increased a staggering 15.1 percent (35
million to 40.3 million) (Karger 2014, pg. 202). Demographics suggest that by 2050, the number
of this age group will increase to 88.5 million (Karger 2014, pg. 22). Not only is this population
growing, but people are living longer. The larger issue is having enough money to provide people

reaches full retirement age. However, benefits must be reduced if earnings exceed certain limits for
the months before full retirement age is reached (Social Security Administration 2016, pg. 5).
Funding and Distribution: Each worker in the United States pays taxes into Social Security.
This money is used presently for those who have already retired, disabled, survivors of workers
who have died, and dependents of those who received benefits (Social Security Administration

government uses the taxes a worker pays to give benefits who are the current recipients. Any

name on it (Social Security Administration 2016, pg. 7). To visualize subsidies for retired workers,

Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person
may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we
would have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that
an excess of pride or vanity is indeed a failing.
Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am
convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that
there are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some
quality or another, real or imaginary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Collins possesses a definite sense of vanity. He is in no way concerned about his own
opinion of his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about
is what others think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives
Elizabeth the grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his
position and possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they
just had better be impressed his status in life and his connections.
Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of
pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his
speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him
or his prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his
standing in society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he.
Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of
the other characters in the novel. She prides herself on being unprejudiced and rational in the
judgement of others. Yet, this is an imaginary quality as she learns that her preconceived notions of

Steroid Use in Pro Sports is Unethical Essay
When you were a kid, didn t you want to play a professional sport? What would you give to be
one of the best athletes in the world? Would you risk your reputation? Your health? Would you
be willing to die? Although many studies have come out saying that steroids diminish one s
health, people still take them hoping to be the best. Imagine if you were a 28 year old who left
college early because a pro team guaranteed you that you would play in the big leagues. Yet you
just got stuck in the minors, and the only way you could get to the big s was to take a pill that
made you super strong and super fast. It would make sense to just take it. But what if that pill
shrunk your testicles, hurtyour heart and vascularsystem, and made... Show more content on

Athletics play such an important role in our society, but, unfortunately, some in professional sports
are not setting much of an example. The use of performance enhancing drugs like steroids in
baseball, football, and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message that there are
shortcuts to accomplishment, and that performance is more important than character. So tonight I
call on team owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right
signal, to get tough, and to get rid of steroids now.
Steroids are laboratory made versions of the human hormone testosterone, which aids growth of
muscles, bones and skin. Testosterone is primarily a male hormone, though females produce trace
amounts. Doctors, for medical uses, may legally prescribe steroids. Steroids for muscle building
are obtained illegally; they are produced overseas or in clandestine laboratories in the U.S. For all
the health risks, research shows steroids do work when it comes to building muscle and power.
These things, in my judgment, work better than most scientists believe, says Gary Wadler of the
New York University School of Medicine, the athletes figured out how well these work long before
scientists. (pg. 13)
Steroids work as follows. When receptor sites don t have much testosterone, then get flooded with
it, they get activated.

His manner of interacting with people and the depth of his belief in God is portrayed in a
beautiful manner, especially the speech he gives during the conclave in a press interview is heart
touching. Even though his misguided actions, obsession and the voices in his head makes him look
seriously insane, you still can t help but wish he was redeemable somehow, because despite all this
he still manages to charm you completely.
Vittoria is the character I felt most connected with. She s smart, fierce, doesn t give up easily and
is not afraid to take a stand against people she feels are unjust/wrong. That is the kind of person I
wish to be. Vittoria shows not just mental but emotional strength also, which I believe is very
important. Her never ending curiosity and love for her family makes her even more connectable.
My motivation behind choosing this novel were secret societies beautiful buildings as I am
fascinated by both and I can honestly say I don t regret my choice. I m also a fan of mythology,
which this book explores

Nuclear Power Is The Best Source Of Power Essay

Nuclear Power
Just about every part of today s society involves energy of some sorts. But as our society
progresses, the need for better, more efficient power sources must be addressed. Out of all of the
choices, the most popular to date is nuclear power. Nuclear power is a growing industry that is
getting mixed reviews from various sources. But which side is right? Is nuclear power the
future? Or is it just another problem the world will have to deal with? The answer is simple.
Nuclear Energy is the future and will power almost the entire world one day. Nuclear power is
the best source of power because it produces lots of power, it produces clean energy, it is cheap,
and it is sustainable. Before that though, a bit of history about nuclear energy. In 1789, Uranium
was discovered by a German chemist named Martin Klaproth. Later on in 1902 Ernest Rutherford,
discovered how radioactivity as a spontaneous event emits an alpha or beta particle from the
nucleus that creates a different element. In 1919 he wanted a better understanding of atoms, so he
fired alpha particles from a radium source into nitrogen and found that nuclear rearrangement was
occurring, with formation of oxygen. Niels Bohr also did work to help better understand the work
of atoms in the 1940s (Perera). Nuclear fission (the process that generates nuclear power) was
discovered by Lisa Meitner and Otto Frisch. They were studying a puzzling result

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Living Off Campus
A student important decision that a student going to college has to discuss is, if a dorm is the best
choice for her or would be better for her to live off campus. Dorm life makes students develop
guidelines. Students that live off campus learn to set their own guidelines that will allow them to be
successful in a more disciplined environment. Living off campus can help the process that allows
students to mature into an adult. However, leaving on campus you don t have to worry about
transportation, responsibility, social life, and cost.
With living on campus students can easily walk to classes, the library, and the cafГ©. A
disadvantage for students that live off campus is that they would have to waste time and money
driving to school and finding a parking space. Also, students who live on campus have plenty of
parking spots available in their own assigned residential lots. These students no longer have to fight
those convenient commuter spaces. If a student lives off campus, it might be easier if he/she has a
job back home. People who live off campus may have to take care of a family member. A
disadvantage for people that live on campus would be that they have to stay on campus twenty four

How Education Has Changed Over The Years
Todays education has changed in many ways over the years. From the behavior of student s
caused by different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as student s ability to
use fundamentals, media and technology all play a role in how the world of education has evolved.
Robin Lawrence a thirteen year veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementary
has a good insight into how the educational system has changed over time.
Past and present behavior have differed between the generations. Behavior in the past was much
better. In the past children did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better
control to allow their children to be young. Past generations of parents did not have a lack of
parenting skills. Children were allowed to be carefree, unlike in the present day generations.
Today s generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their
behavior reflect this. The poor behavior of today s generations has affected their education. The
poor behavior of one student affects the whole class. Mrs. Lawrence stated, Student behavior was
much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present day. When asking
Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that student s behavior was better in the past than in the present she
stated that Students have so many adult burdens placed on then it is very difficult for them to be a
child. Poor/ lack of parenting has been a major factor in

Coastal Dune Systems Serve As A Natural Alternative For...
Chapter 1. Introduction, project aim and main objectives.
1.1 Introduction
Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act
as a barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when
coastal disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the
beach, realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause
waves to break further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded
sand slowly from offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes
absorb the impact of storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas,
protecting structures from flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to
interrupt natural beach processes, increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in
artificial replacement of sand. Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least
expensive defence against shoreline erosion, and is a softer solution since there is no introduction
of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al., 2013; Gomez Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and
Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the Dutch coast, where plenty of research
has been done due to their importance as a line of defence feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et
al., 2012).
Such defences also have downsides, and one of those are transgressive

Bureaucratic Discretion In Public Service
Extensive research has discussed the role of street level bureaucrats in the administration of public
services.
Few people in the public consciously give a name to what front line service providers such as
police, social workers, teachers, public health, legal aid, city workers, and other public servants
subconsciously perform day in and day out bureaucrat discretion. Many of these public servants
themselves who are doling out bureaucratic discretion have not put a name to it because many
times it is a natural reaction and decided in a moment s response. Author, Michael Lipsky, brought
attention to the phenomenal and verbalized the concept. Since these public servants are literally in
the trenches and on the front line serving the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why it is vitally important when discretionary calls are made it is done with the upmost
ethical conclusion. Human nature is wired to react from their own experiences be they good or
bad. It is important for citizens, all levels of government employees and the institutions they serve
to understand this concept of bureaucratic discretion. With education, nuances of the complexities
of the job, and proper policies and guidelines, when bureaucratic discretion are made by the street
level worker they need to be balanced with ethics and integrity for the various situations they
face. There is such a broad spectrum of public servants that bureaucratic discretion will also have
a very broad range of definitions. A broad general definition of discretion is a perceived freedom
of street level bureaucrats to make choices that concern the sort, quantity, and quality sanctions and
rewards that are offer when implementing a policy. The management style of different government
entities can have an adverse or beneficial effect when implementing the same policy because the
public servant(s) (1) possess more knowledge or loopholes on the rules, (2) the agency s
operationalize the policy somewhat differently, (3) employee/manager relationship is what enables
them to adjust to the circumstances, or (4) the personality of the street level bureaucrat is more rule

Research Paper On Queen Victoria
he Victorian Era is the era in which Queen Victoria ruled England. During this time period,
Queen Victoria set many regulations, demands and expectations in regards to women fashion
and lifestyle. Queen Victoria is recognized for her keen and unmistakable profile; as well as her
seventy years of kinship in England and her actions and demands amongst women of that time
period and as well as in that society. She established strict, personal morals for women in that era
and explicit demands of the way women were supposed to dress, whether it was inside or
outside, they were expected to dress in a certain way. In the video that was shown based on
Queen Victoria and her outlook on women, it was said that women spent most of their time
changing clothes. In Queen Victoria s point of view, women could only be considered as a
proper lady only if they followed the morals and code of etiquette. This idea was proposed by the
Queen herself, but after a while it began to disintegrate due to the different ideas that were
publicized in magazines. Over time, women were becoming suffragists. They were influenced by
the ideas that were posted in magazines as to what the ideal woman was and they began to protest
for their rights and for equality. In the quote that was said by her, she says, Feminists ought to get a
whipping. This just goes to show that she disagreed with them, showed no interests in the rights of
equality for women and that those... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 3. Essay on Faraday Faraday It is not my intention to lay before you a life of Faraday in the ordinary accepting of the term. The duty I have to perform is to give you some notion of what he has done in the world; dwelling incidentally on the spirit in which his work was executed, and introducing such personal traits as may be necessary to the completion of your picture of the philosopher, though by no means adequate to give you a complete idea of the man. Michael Faraday was born at Newington Butts, on September 22, 1791, and he died at Hampton Court, on August 25, 1867. When thirteen years old, that is to say in 1804, Faraday was apprenticed to a bookseller and bookbinder where he spent eight years of his life, after which he worked as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this time he was acquiring, not producing; working hard for his master and storing and strengthening his own mind. He assisted Mr. Brande in his lectures, and so quietly, skillfully, and modestly was his work done, that Mr. Brande s vocation at the time was pronounced lecturing on velvet. In 1820 Faraday published a chemical paper on two new compounds of chlorine and carbon, and on a new compound of iodine, carbon, and hydrogen. This paper was read before the Royal Society on December 21, 1820, and it was the first of his that was honored with a place in the Philosophical Transactions. On June 12, 1821, he married, and obtained leave to bring his young wife into his rooms at the Royal Institution. There for forty six years they lived together, occupying the suite of apartments which had been previously in the successive occupancy of Young, Davy, and Brande. At the time of her marriage Mrs. Faraday was twenty one years of age, he being nearly thirty. Oersted, in 1820, discovered the action of a voltaic current on a magnetic needle; and immediately afterwards the splendid intellect of Ampere succeeded in showing that every magnetic phenomenon then known might be reduced to the mutual action of electric currents. This attracted Faraday s attention to the subject. He read much about it; and in the months of July, August, and September he wrote a history of the progress of electromagnetism, which he published in Thomson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Washington Irving Contributions After the first wave of immigrants settled in America, it was up to the next generation, their children, to isolate themselves from European cultures. One such child of the second generation was Washington Irving, who felt inspired by both his country s history and stories of other cultures told by fellow immigrants, to be the catalyst for a new wave of literature. Through the perfectly captured spirit of America in his work, Washington Irvingwas the first to show the rest of the world what his country had to offer to the literary world. Washington Irving was born in New York City in 1783, named after General George Washington who led the United States to winning the American Revolution. He was the youngest of eleven siblings to Scottish English parents, and was taught by them at home. Under his brother Peter, an editor for the newspaper The Morning Chronicle, Washington started writing for him at age 18. He published essays and letters under the name Jonathan Oldstyle, the first of various pseudonyms used throughout his literary career. In 1804, Washington left for France originally to inquire about his health, but was so charmed by the people and culture that he decided to stay and travel to other countries in Europe like the Netherlands, Wales, and Spain for the next two years. After returning to New York City, Irving began practicing law, working as a clerk under Josiah Ogden Hoffman. As a child, he seemed to be more of a daydreamer than a scholar, and was more interested in socializing and working with his friends. With his brother William and friend James Kirke Paulding, Washington started the Salmagundi Papers, also known as The Opinions of Launcelot Langstaff in 1809. These essays served as satirical periodicals to offset the other, gloomier news articles of the time. While short lived, it was met with success and positive reviews, people appreciating its Swift esque sense of humor and style. That same year, he was inspired to write History of New York from the Beginning of the World to the End of the Dutch Dynasty, a historical novel being his first major work under Diedrich Knickerbocker. Irving broke away from writing a little while afterward, even enlisting to fight in the War of 1812 for some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Political Changes In The Progressive Era The history of the United States shows an improvement in its civilization from its origin to the present. From the independence of the U.S. to the Civil Rights Movement. However, the biggest change occurred during the Progressive Era; a time period where new ways of thinking started to develop towards a more fair country. The social aspect had the biggest impact followed by political changes and some economical. The first political change happened when the muckrakers decided that the political parties were corrupt and people in the business industry had too much saying in what the government did. For that reason the muckrakers decided to go against the railroads, the primary industry that exercised power over the government (Brinkley 478). This was known as the trust buster regulation, where monopolies were seeing as unfair and corrupt business. Even though corruption was reduced, the muckrakers also sought to take out power from the bosses, who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless to mention, the most remembered political movement of the Progressive Era was Woman Suffrage. Women were part of the politics of the U.S. behind the scenes, many of them proposed regulations to their husbands without getting recognition, but during the Progressive Era, women were ready to change that. They founded clubs as the General Federation of Women s Club (481). The suffrage movement started around the 1890 s but gained strength after a decade. The argument wasn t that women were ... • 6. The Heroes Deed Analysis What s the difference between a hero and a regular person? Joseph Campbell describes the difference as the way you respond to the trials in front of you, the way you answer the heroes deed . The heroes deed, as described by Campbell, is overcoming the challenges you are faced with in a way that uplifts those around you. Often times you are challenged to respond to things for the first time, what Campbell describes as an original experience. This can be problematic because as humans we tend to like things that are habitual and comfortable, both of which make it difficult to be pushed outside of our comfort zone. There is something heroic about embracing the heroes deed not knowing what could happen. The heroes deed allows us to enter new boundaries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Is Phineas Gage Lucky Phineas Gage, Lucky or Unlucky? Survivors of traumatic brain injury are lucky. Two examples of lucky traumatic brain injury survivors are Phineas Gage and Gary Busey. These two are lucky along with the other millions of traumatic brain injury survivors. Phineas Gage and Gary Busey were both lucky because they were given a second chance at life. In addition both narrowly evaded death. Phineas Gage, a traumatic brain injury survivor, was lucky. The first reason Phineas Gage was lucky is that the tamping iron that went through his head took a path that did not kill him. Phineas could have died in over twenty different ways if the tamping iron had taken a different path through his head. I know this because in the book Phineas Gage it states ... Snow Crash Utopia And Dystopia Essay Midterm Exam Metaverse Even though the Metaverse is not a person, Da5id, along with his company, and Juanita can be greatly credited for the creating the metaverse. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Winston s personal utopia was most likely the bedroom he and Julia rented from Mr. Charrington. Like in Snow Crash, Winston s desperation with reality lead him to create his own utopia where he could get a glimpse of freedom and happiness. The dystopia in 1984 is everything else outside of the bedroom in Mr. Charrigtons shop. The Book of Eli does not have a utopia throughout the movie. The closest the movie comes to revealing a utopia is towards the end when the Bible begins to go through the printing press and when Solara goes back to her town to potentially make it better. The majority of the movie is dystopian. The Book of Eli does not break the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a dystopia because it does not have a utopia. In the Hunger Games the utopia is the Capitol, and the dystopia is the Districts. The people of the Capitol have better clothing, housing, food, and many more luxuries than the people of the Districts have. While the people of the Capitol might think they live in a utopia, it is not truly a utopia because there are people suffering and killing each other among the districts to provide entertainment for the Capitol. Native American Culture Native Americans have a complex relationship to American culture because they are the only indigenous people of the United States and modern Native Americans are still members of tribes and nations that have their own sovereignty and rights. Since the first ship landed on American soil, European took control of Native Americans visual sovereignty and how Native American could express their culture. The only way to best represent a culture is having someone from their own culture being able to express themselves. Historically, Native Americans have faced changelings in controlling their own visually sovereignty in film and other media with stereotypical portrayals that benefited the white middle class Americans. As Native Americans began to fight back against these portrayals and gaining their own political sovereignty, films began to be produced by Native Americans, such as Imagining Indians and Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner, for them to best represent their culture and way of life. When Native Americans first started being shown in films and other media, they were used to portray stereotypical white ideas which as how they appear and act with others. As seen in Professor Boger s lecture (10/25), the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show starting in 1883 restaged historical battles that hired numerous Native American performers. • 11. Designing the Perfect State From the ancient to the modern, societies have always been striving to create the perfect state. Philosophers, such as Plato and Lao Tsu, have provided opinions for centuries as to what constitutes this state. The perfect state is one in which true cooperation exist, allowing the state to effectively overcome any problem. Although some argue absolute collaboration is unreachable, the reality is that with a set of fundamental elements this state is possible. To establish this society, there must exist an equal distribution of wealth, to eliminate the conflict caused by social stratification. There would be a strict division of labor based on each individual s strengths, allowing the growth of interdependence. Additionally, there would exist censorship from unnecessary knowledge to eliminate distractions from collaboration. Furthermore, there must exist a shared leadership system, allowing for collaboration between multiple leaders and eliminating conflicts caused by dictatorship. Characterized by these four elements, the perfect state would be one capable of efficiently maintaining full collaboration, allowing for effective problem solving. The ideal state would have an equal distribution of wealth, because a state in which the populace is at constant competition with each other cannot remain truly cooperative. This would allow for detachment from wealth, decreasing conflict between individuals. Lao Tsu once said the claim of wealth and attachment to things will cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As sentinels at the forefront of health of the community, it is critical (albeit profoundly challenging) for pharmacists to educate patients on these misunderstandings. First and foremost, the inactivated vaccineby definition cannot cause the flu. Inactivated viruses are so named because they have been relieved of their ability to replicate themselves within cells and thus cannot cause disease. It was established two years ago when ValMed and PharmCO merged. In September, the U.S. core team members felt they needed to escalatetheir concerns. After consulting with Carol and Mike,Frank approached Lance Paulson, the head of the Drug Safety Division. According to Frank, Lance, who was also based in the U.S., took his concerns seriously and promised to act. I assumed, said Frank, that meant Lance would work through Didier, perhaps coaching and counseling him on how to open up dialogue and communication within the core team and throughout the project overall. Instead, Lance chose another approach. He sent an e mail message to the entire division, not just those workingon the Vigilance project. • 16. Summary Of The Dispossessed By Ursula Le Guin My book The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin was written in 1974 Oregon. Ursula Le Guin was a daughter of an anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber and a writer Theodora Krakaw. She was a talented child, interested in biology and poetry. Her first science fiction story was published when she was 11, in a magazine called Astounding Science Fiction. She finished Berkeley High School and completed studies of French and Italian literature at the Radcliffe College and the Columbia University (Nixon). In my opinion, Ursula K. Le Guin wrote her novelin order to show a totally different and intriguing perspective of life. The book was written for people with an open mind, who are ready to consider an absurd way of life and thinking. The author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Le Guin requires the reader to think, and also it allows the reader to create his own opinion about the events happening. Most of the book is not written in a way that condemns either of the leading aspects: capitalism and anarchism. Instead of criticizing, Le Guin presents the facts, the events and feelings of an anarchist. And now, by expressing feelings of an anarchist, a reader may say: Well, the book is certainly one sided! . However, as the book is intended to be read by open minded humans, who most often live in democratic/semi capitalist societies, we have an immediate bias towards capitalism. The reason for presenting Shevek s point of view, according to me, is contrasting our own capitalist, money centered thoughts. I think that the whole purpose of the book is challenging our points of view and presenting some that we have never considered, nor thought of considering. The value of the book is to make us more creative. The Dispossessed does not follow rules and it requires the reader to question the rules, the government and social behaviors that we have been taught since we were children. I find the book very interesting and intriguing. However, I cannot see any practical implications for The Dispossessed , because it requires too much perfection and change from the human race. It wants all humans to be equal like in communism, it wants them to benefit to society as much as they can, it does not accept any laziness, authority, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Putting that aside the world is a huge place that Rockstar Gameshas used to express an ambitious story that always made me want to playjust one more mission . It is a stunning game with amazing graphics that can and does thing most people would think to be impossible to do on our current generation of hardware. The story mode in GTA 5 centers around three main characters. Michael, a retired criminal living a life of idle luxury with his dysfunctional family in the higher class region of Los Santos, Franklin a gang banger that grew up in the streets of Los Santos that is desperate to escape the minimal revenue of petty hustling and gang life, and Trevor an old friend of michaels that is a meth dealer, someone that is paranoid of ... Essay about Americans Have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Americans Have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Our rights as Americans started to take shape when the Constitution of the United States was drawn up by the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Three years later, a very important part of American history called the Bill of Rights was added. The Bill of Rights is looked upon and interpreted every day. It gives the citizens of the United States many of the rights and freedoms that we value today, and some of those are in jeopardy. One right that is at stake is our right to bear arms, which is addressed in the Second Amendment. Several states have added right to carry laws, while others have made it illegal to possess a concealed weapon (Smith 22). Most of the additional laws deal with the ownership and use of handguns and assault type weapons. There has been much debate and government lobbying dealing with the passing of gun laws. Many people think the government is focusing too much on the laws about guns, because 90 percent of all violent crime in the United States does not involve any type of firearm (Smith 17). Other countries around the world have also set examples by having gun laws. Guns are banned in the United Kingdom, and the crime rate has risen since that time (Smith 24). Also, within the United States, the crime rate in the states is lower if the states have right to carry laws (Smith 22). The other major problem with gun laws in the United States is that they are simply not being enforced (Smith 15). These facts and others involving the positive uses of guns are argued in court rooms and government offices around the country every day. As government officials study the facts and make laws, they continue to maintain the people s right to bear arms. When thinking about the people s right to bear arms, it is appropriate to know that not all stories about guns are bad. Guns are not always used for violence, and the government seems to be keeping this fact in mind. Positive stories about people having their lives saved by guns seem to ... Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet, horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive. Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing up the themes of the movement. One foundation myth relates to Jumong, who received barley seeds from two doves sent by his mother after establishing the kingdom of Goguryeo.[4] Yet another myth speaks of the three founding deities of Jeju Island, who were to be wed to the three princesses of Tamna; the deities brought seeds of five grains which were the first seeds planted, which in turn became the first instance of farming.[5] During the pre modern era, grains such as barley and millet were the main staples and were supplemented by wheat, sorghum, and buckwheat. Rice is not an indigenous crop to Korea, and millet was likely the preferred grain before rice was cultivated. Rice became the grain of choice during the Three Kingdoms period, particularly in the Silla and Baekje Kingdoms in the southern regions of the peninsula. Rice was such an important commodity in Silla that it was used to pay taxes. The Sino Korean word for tax is a compound character that uses the character for the rice plant. The Problem Of Social Security Social Security Benefits The Problem Social Security Faces: The concept of the graying of America is becoming a more pressing issue as the baby boomer population is coming of age to retire. Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that an excess of pride or vanity is indeed a failing. Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some quality or another, real or imaginary. ... He is in no way concerned about his own opinion of his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about is what others think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives Elizabeth the grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his position and possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they just had better be impressed his status in life and his connections. Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him or his prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his standing in society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he. Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of the other characters in the novel. Athletics play such an important role in our society, but, unfortunately, some in professional sports are not setting much of an example. The use of performance enhancing drugs like steroids in baseball, football, and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message that there are shortcuts to accomplishment, and that performance is more important than character. So tonight I call on team owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right signal, to get tough, and to get rid of steroids now. Steroids are laboratory made versions of the human hormone testosterone, which aids growth of muscles, bones and skin. Testosterone is primarily a male hormone, though females produce trace amounts. Doctors, for medical uses, may legally prescribe steroids. Steroids for muscle building are obtained illegally; they are produced overseas or in clandestine laboratories in the U.S. For all the health risks, research shows steroids do work when it comes to building muscle and power. These things, in my judgment, work better than most scientists believe, says Gary Wadler of the New York University School of Medicine, the athletes figured out how well these work long before scientists. • 42. Nuclear Power Is The Best Source Of Power Essay Mickey Eovine O Sullivan 1st January 22, 2016 Nuclear Power Just about every part of today s society involves energy of some sorts. But as our society progresses, the need for better, more efficient power sources must be addressed. Out of all of the choices, the most popular to date is nuclear power. Nuclear power is a growing industry that is getting mixed reviews from various sources. But which side is right? Is nuclear power the future? Or is it just another problem the world will have to deal with? The answer is simple. Nuclear Energy is the future and will power almost the entire world one day. Nuclear power is the best source of power because it produces lots of power, it produces clean energy, it is cheap, and it is sustainable. Before that though, a bit of history about nuclear energy. In 1789, Uranium was discovered by a German chemist named Martin Klaproth. Later on in 1902 Ernest Rutherford, discovered how radioactivity as a spontaneous event emits an alpha or beta particle from the nucleus that creates a different element. In 1919 he wanted a better understanding of atoms, so he fired alpha particles from a radium source into nitrogen and found that nuclear rearrangement was occurring, with formation of oxygen. Niels Bohr also did work to help better understand the work of atoms in the 1940s (Perera). Nuclear fission (the process that generates nuclear power) was discovered by Lisa Meitner and Otto Frisch. From the behavior of student s caused by different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as student s ability to use fundamentals, media and technology all play a role in how the world of education has evolved. Robin Lawrence a thirteen year veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementary has a good insight into how the educational system has changed over time. Past and present behavior have differed between the generations. Behavior in the past was much better. In the past children did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control to allow their children to be young. Past generations of parents did not have a lack of parenting skills. Children were allowed to be carefree, unlike in the present day generations. Today s generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor behavior of today s generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects the whole class. Mrs. Lawrence stated, Student behavior was much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present day. When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that student s behavior was better in the past than in the present she stated that Students have so many adult burdens placed on then it is very difficult for them to be a child. • 45. Coastal Dune Systems Serve As A Natural Alternative For... Chapter 1. Introduction, project aim and main objectives. 1.1 Introduction Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act as a barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when coastal disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the beach, realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause waves to break further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded sand slowly from offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes absorb the impact of storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas, protecting structures from flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to interrupt natural beach processes, increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in artificial replacement of sand. Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least expensive defence against shoreline erosion, and is a softer solution since there is no introduction of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al., 2013; Gomez Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the Dutch coast, where plenty of research has been done due to their importance as a line of defence feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et al., 2012). Such defences also have downsides, and one of those are transgressive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Few people in the public consciously give a name to what front line service providers such as police, social workers, teachers, public health, legal aid, city workers, and other public servants subconsciously perform day in and day out bureaucrat discretion. Many of these public servants themselves who are doling out bureaucratic discretion have not put a name to it because many times it is a natural reaction and decided in a moment s response.
