How Do Political Cartoons Affect Political Issues
Do political cartoons affect the public views on political issues? They have had a significant
impact on people in the past, because they were able to show the political views of the author in
a simple, and easy to understand way. Cartoons can shed light onto unknown problems as well as
affect people s opinions on controversial issues. In the cartoons, men are portrayed as animals to
show they were acting savagely, or cartoons were set in already known stories so that they could
compare the similarities. Just because the images are simplified does not mean that their effects are
any less important. Their problems include: the indecency of racial suffrage, the disparity in
leadership, and the overshadowing of suffering.
Cartoons are often drawn around events that the audience would recognize. For instance, the story
of Sampson, in which he kept his power so long as he did not cut his hair. When Delilah, his wife
and the person he trusted most, cut off his hair, he lost all of his power. One particular cartoon
portrays the United States as Delilah, removing Sampson s hair. Sampson is portrayed as a black
man, with his hair being a depiction of his right to vote. This implied that because the U.S. was
stripping the black men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prisoners in Andersonville had friends and family members die, their homes destroyed, and
their lives changed forever. In contrast the men in leadership at Fortress Monroe were under their
own version of suffering, whether it was from the heat or all of the stress they are put under. The
prisoners were left huddling and weeping, while the leaders lounged around fanning themselves.
The men at Fortress Monroe were attempting to overshadow the fact that there was true suffering
happening in another part of the country, because their sufferings were obviously more important
than anyone

The Great Man Is A Great Woman
There is a saying that goes Behind a great man is a great women . Maybe there was a great
woman behind Abraham Lincoln who told him what decisions to take. Someone who was there to
support his actions and give him feedback. Mary Todd Lincoln wasn t always a Lincoln, her
maiden name was Mary Ann Todd otherwise known as Molly . She was born in Lexington,
Kentuckyin the date of December 13, 1818. Mary s hometown: Lexington was surprisingly
founded by her family. She was the daughter of Robert Smith Todd and Elizabeth Ann Todd. She
had two brothers and two sisters. She was born into a wealthy family who didn t have to suffer
and gave her the basic resources she needed growing up (Mary Ann Lincoln (Todd),
www.Geni.com). Although, at the age of six, her mother Elizabeth passed away and afterwards her
father decided that it was time to re marry. Other than this, her infancy was pretty set up to a good
start, because she had a good educational career. She even had a private education throughout her
life and attended the Aristocracy of Lexington (Mary Todd Lincoln, Whitehouse.gov). As a child,
Mary was always lively and impulsive with the way she acted and the decisions she made. Even
her parents and friends recognized this. Still, when she grew up, she kept her personality the same
and this brought both fortune and misfortune. While still in her educational steps, she overachieved
in arts and also in cultural studies. As a result, she gained a genuine interest in politics.

Anglo Saxon England Research Paper
Until today, the English monarchs bear the title Duke of Normandy. Anglo Saxon England refers to
the period of English history from the end of Roman Britain and the establishment of Anglo Saxon
kingdoms. Through the sub Roman period of English history, there is a strong cultural link back to
the period of Roman occupation. Relations were closer with Scandinavia than with central Europe.
Despite the geographical proximity of the French coast when the Anglo Saxon period ended and the
Norman period began. Moreover, this comparative isolation from Europe also ended. By the end of
the Anglo Saxon period, England had taken the shape of the country that continues to be the
Kingdom of England now within the United Kingdomof Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Throughout the long Anglo Saxon period of England s history, the kingdoms existed as an offshore
island of continental Europe. The subsequent mixture of Anglo Saxon and Norman French cultures
became, over the years, a foundation for integrating England into the European cultural life.
Anyone who believed that history is not only a series of accidents might well see God s hand
behind the creation of an empire. England also became embroiled in a series of European ... Show

Individualism In This Side Of Paradise
The novel, This Side of Paradise, was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald s. It was his first novel. It
caught the attention of the public and made the novel representative of an entire generation. Not to
mention, it made him a successful popular author when he was only twenty three years old. This
Side of Paradise revolves around the young adult, Amory Blaine, and his life from his childhood
through his early twenties. The noveldepicts the life of a young man in a society where wealth and
power are the most important things. Throughout the novel he struggles with finding his
individualism and not conforming to the society around him. After fighting in World War I, his
theories on American ideals are changed just like those of the lost generation. Amory experience
friendship that lasts a lifetime, heartbreaking romances, and the loss of wealth. All of these things
cause Amory to rediscover himself in a society filled charlatans.
This Side of Paradise opens by introducing Amory as a young boy. Amory is slender, tall, and
handsome. Despite his intellectual talent he is lazy and unmotivated. As a result of that, his grades
are mediocre. He was born the son of a wealthy and sophisticated women, Beatrice. Amory always

who died in the war. Amory explains his new socialist principles and then continues to walk to

The Child that Lives from Within
The social sciences often question if psychopathic behaviour is innate or a product of social
environment. The answer seems difficult to discern because it is not split down into equal parts of
nurture and nature, but rather rely on one another for a better understanding. In the movie Psycho
by Alfred Hitchcock, Norman Bates downfall proposes how crucial a healthy childhood is to the
mental state of developing child. Contrary to nature focused beliefs, not all human behaviour comes
from an individual s genetic makeup, but rather through experiences that become ingrained in the
mind like scripture (Cooke 25). Theories proposed by Sigmund Freud and other research comparing
the relation between psychopathy and environment can help to rationalize the reasons behind
Norman Bates unsuccessful childhood, the impact of his parent child relationship on his self
perception, and the influence of his upbringing on external relationships. Despite the age of the
theories and the year of the film, the question concerning if Norman Bates mental state is innate or
a gradual creation provides an understanding of current parent child relationship issues. To be
familiar with the cringing extent of vacant family bonds emphasizes how necessary it is for parents
to build a strong relationship with their child or suffer the consequences.
Theories of Norman s childhood:

Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil
The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the
few religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and
grow up with it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism,
Shinto has no known founder. With that said, Shintoalso has a unique view of the problem of evil
and suffering. For some religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe
about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do
not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent
Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the problem of evil and he took a more
optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even mentioning Shintoism as a happy
religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism addresses the problem of evil in
that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of purity.
Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and
evil in aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans.
This spirit is the cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts
because of the works of the curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral
behavior is associated with balance of

The Setting Of Dracula By William Shakespeare
Activity 1
The setting of Dracula took place in Transylvania at Castle Dracula and travels over to Whitby.
The author decided to pick this place because this was the birthplace of the Dracula stories. By
using this it connected more with the original stories of Dracula instead of taking it somewhere
else and make it more of a duplicate. While reading this book it made me feel like I was up and
close to Dracula. If the setting would have taken place in a different place it would just have been
another vampire book and not about Dracula himself. Activity 2
Two characters that should be brought to the light are Count Dracula and Van Helsing. Count
Dracula, or Dracula for short, is an old vampire as well as a Transylvania citizen. Since he is a
vampire he is possessed with a dark entity. This curse comes with both powers and burdens. As a
vampire he is able to shape shift to any animal he wants, control the weather, and has the strength
of about 20 men. Some of the burdens that comes with this is that he can t enter a victim s house
without being invited in, can t cross water without being held, and becomes weak when in
presence of sunlight. I bent over him, and tried to find any sign of life, but in vain (pg. 52 53).
Between me and the moonlight flitted a great bat, coming and going great, whirling circles (pg.
103). The blood is the life (pg. 156). Van Helsing is a Dutch professor who is described as a
philosopher, a metaphysician, and one of the most advanced

The Model Validation Purpose, Particulate Solid Research,...
For model validation purpose, Particulate Solid Research Inc. (PSRI) and National Energy
Technology Laboratory (NETL) organized the modeling competitions in the form of third
Challenge Problem []. By providing the geometry of a circulating bed and operating parameters for
different conditions, the organizers asked modelers to predict the hydrodynamic characteristics
without prior knowledge of test results. In third Challenge Problem, the CFD models did better
than their performance in first and second challenge problems organized by PSRI. One of the
issues in model mismatch was the high computational time required to reach the steady state of the
fluid bed process. Other mismatch was partly due to modeling only the riser section rather... Show

The cycle repeats thus creating a continuous circulation of solid around the loop.
The miniCFB was made out of clear acrylic pieces. Operators can clearly see the dynamics of gas
particle mixing throughout the riser. They can visually record the height of moving solids or bed
height in the standpipe. The particles swirl indicating rotational dynamics inside the cyclone is
clearly visible during gas solid separation. Researchers may take image of gas solid interactions at
any section of the rig, be it at the interface of the L valve and riser entrance or at the riser exit and
crossover. For instance, a high speed particle image velocimetry (PIV) using a shadowing technique
counted accurate number of falling particles in the lean region of standpipe. The shadowing method
gives improved depth of focus enhancing accurate measurement of solid circulation rate at steady
state.
The solid circulation rate connects the dynamics of a CFB riser and its return loop. The parameter
strongly affects heat and mass transfer between particles and gas, and between particles and
particles. It greatly influences the mixing and reaction times, residence time distribution,
performance and hydrodynamics of the overall system. The full loop simulation of the DEM
model produces the solid circulation rate as the output rather than requiring it as an input. Later
case arises when CFD models simulate only a riser portion of the CFB. The precise model of a full

His groundbreaking achievements have impacted life as we know it. David Baltimore is one man
whose impact on society will be felt for generations to come. Baltimore changed the way that
scientists viewed the genetic theory, overturning the belief that genetic information flowed in one
direction from DNA to RNA. This was essential to research and discoveries made about the HIV
virus. Baltimore s work with cancer research was also pivotal to society. The implications of his
research led to new discoveries in medicines as well as applications to which treatments could be
made. Here real strides were made towards helping with cancer, specifically leukemia. David
Baltimore s hard work was acknowledged with his earning of the Noble Prize for Physiology or
Medicine. Baltimore would then proceed to further his research by operating his own
laboratory and advancing his work. With specific experiments on mice, Baltimore was able to
study genes, which were fused with the cancer cells, and apply this information to a new type of
drug that would be used on the genetic level. Baltimore has held many key positions and
prestigious institutions such as; M.I.T., Caltech, and Rockefeller university. Besides research,
Baltimore was also involved socially and politically with issues affecting society. He was an
early advocate for AIDS and he helped the issue gain recognition that would be essential to
treating the disease. David Baltimore s work with cancer causing viruses has led to breakthrough
discoveries towards medicine and treatment. Simply put, David Baltimore has impacted society
in so many ways. He has not only conducted the research but has also been an advocate for causes
impacting his research. Baltimore s tireless work to his field helped to make medicines and
applications that impact society as a whole. His work has changed the world, and he has

America Is A Great Nation
As a native born American citizen, I am blessed. Blessed with freedom of speech, with freedom
of religion, and with the ability to pursue happiness. Because of this American privilege, I am
grateful, but I am ignorant. America is a great nation, but because we cannot fully comprehend
what it may be like to be born without privilege, we have become selfish. If it is beneficial,
America severely chastises and punishes any for the commitment of atrocities against ourselves and
others, but when not directly affected, America ignores atrocities committed in other countries,
even when committed by us. Joseph Stalin once said, When one man dies, that s a tragedy. When
thousands die, it s a statistic. Large numbers in this regard can provide a strange sense of comfort
because numbers don t feel like people. With numbers, comes distance. To truly understand the
severity of any situation, we must take in account the statistics and numbers. But we cannot forget
what is precious. On September 11th, 2001, a horrific act of terror struck our nation to the core.
Fear, devastating and humbling, lodged into our blessed lives. Over 2,800 American civilians were
murdered in cold blood when two planes were hijacked and flown directly into the twin towers
(Anderson 3). This atrocious event caused the entire country to mourn for its loss, and as American
citizens, it is impossible to ignore the destruction of such an event. In such dreadful times, it is
difficult to comprehend the magnitude of

Stereotyping Of The Chinatowns Of China And The Great...
Nevertheless, back in China, it was a lawless decade dominated by rapacious warlords. Nationalist
leader Chiang Kai shek, led a campaign called Northern Expedition from 1926 to 1928 to control
China by defeating the warlords. But he faced relentless Japan s attack, and in the 1919 Versailles

and controlled Chinaby assigning Puyi as puppet ruler.
Chinese immigrants were eager to help, but soon American mired in the deepest economic
recession on record The 1920s Great Depression. After frenzied stock market speculation, the
nationwide financial bubble bursted, making twenty million American unemployed. In 1933,
President Roosevelt enacted the Federal Emergency Relief Act, which saved the economic
depression for both Americans and Chinese. However, The Great Depression did not affect the
Chinatowns of 1930s so badly, mainly because of Chinese s self sufficiency, frugality, reliance on
family connection and avoidance of frivolous debt. Their valiant teamwork helped them rescue
from bankruptcy. Otherwise, Tourism appeared to be a reliable source of cash such as the
Forbidden City nightclub in San Francisco Chinatown, hiring hundreds of Chinese women.

The War Of 1812 And Its Effect On Foreign Relations
After the American Revolutionary War was declared in 1775, the newly founded United States
did not declare war again until the War of 1812. Britain did not respect the neutrality policy of the
U.S. during the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. The British started to impress U.S. sailors into the
British navy, leading to the declaration of war against Britain. The Treaty of Ghent was signed to
conclude the war and to restore prewar boundaries. However, this fairly small war had immense
consequences. Some consequences had an influence on foreign relations, American fishing rights,
the development of the Rush Bagot agreement, as well as the evolvement of the Monroe Doctrine.
In addition, all of these outcomes allowed for an increase in domestic manufacturing and trade. The
morale of the country was also boosted as a result of the war, affecting both foreign relations and
American industry, because the citizens of the United Statesdeveloped new ideas about trading with
other countries and advancing in the manufacture of products within the country.
After the War of 1812, the United States faced many economic problems. The U.S. came up

Captain America believes in justice, and that it must be served to those who have done wrong.
For instance, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier Nick Fury was chased after agents
claiming to work for local law enforcement and S.H.I.E.L.D. To hide from these men, fury went
to Rodger`s home, informing him how S.H.I.E.L.D was compromised. Soon after, he was shot
by the Winter Soldier. Fury later died while surgeon`s were trying to save him. The Captain
made it is mission to figure out who compromised S.H.I.E.L.D and to serve them justice for their
role in Fury`s death. In the United States we also have a strong sense of justice. We have an entire
system that is devoted to serve justice to those have committed crimes. Another value that is
important to Steve Rodgers is courage. As a superhero, one cannot be easily frightened. Therefore,
Captain America is not afraid to risk his life to save others. Throughout the move he is not
apprehensive about jumping out of planes, or fighting ten enemies in an elevator. In the movie, his
tremendous example of courage is towards the end. The Captain was in charge of overriding the
software for the three ships. This would result in the three ships blowing up. Captain America was
willing to let himself die on the ship in order to successfully override the systems. This action ended
up saving thousands of people. Fortunately, the Captain

Sunshine Chapel Narrative
I can still recall the day I stepped foot into Sunshine Chapel. The walls shimmered with a golden
sheen; the floor was marbled and impeccable. The pristine desk, the neat little rows of plush
chairs, the potted plants stationed at every corner... they all gave the chapel an air of quiet
efficiency. However, I could not help but feel as if their only purpose was to distract from the
room s atmosphere. The emotions of those who had once trod upon the chapel s grounds were
still etched into the walls, and no amount of scrubbing could erase them. The receptionist
glanced up as we approached. Are you here for Bich Lai s funeral? My father gave a gruff nod,
while my mother only clutched my sister s arm. All right, that ll be the room right in the center,
she chirped. You can t miss it. My sister thanked her before leading us towards the centermost
room. The sound of heavy rain followed in our wake. I thought it rather strange that today, of all
days, was wet and dreary it had been a warm spring otherwise, and such heavy downpours were
practically unheard of. Perhaps the weather had changed when we drove from the sleepy city of
Milpitas to the bustling streets of San Jose. Regardless, the persistent tap tap tap was soon replaced
by the soft murmurs of men and women in demure black clothing. Strangers and relatives alike...

The Hero s Journey In Monomyth, By Joseph Campbell
The hero is on a constant journey. Throughout the journey, a hero will often be faced with hardship
only to be strengthened and propelled into action. The introduction stresses the importance of the
hero s struggle. The struggle encourages the hero to act courageously and act confidently. By
confronting their hardships, the herowill experience the desired growth from the journey.
The hero also seeks a better way to behave and live. The hero s journey could be described as a
transformation. The life of the hero is affected by its surroundings as the surroundings are affected
by the hero. The hero must persevere through the journey to be a part of a greater change.

Through these tales we are taught that the journey is worth as much as the result. These tales relate
back to the hero and the importance of the journey leading to growth. A hero must have basic
qualities of perseverance and devotion in order to be successful. They should also be open to the
transformation that comes with the journey and not limit themselves to one set way as they search
for fullness. These stories although from different origins share a similar message which illustrates
the universal nature of the hero.
4.Monomyth what is it, why is it important/ relevant? (1 par)
Monomyth is a term coined by Campbell from the author James Joyce. Monomyth describes the
series of events often found in stories that make up the hero s journey. Campbell divided the
journey into three main parts: the departure, initiation and the return. Each part of the journey is
further divided into smaller more detailed sections. The basic structure outlined by Campbell s
Monomyth has become a template used for most stories centered on a hero. Many stories and
blockbuster films follow Campbell s Monomyth. This keeps the monomyth still relevant in story
writing and useful in the analysis of films.

Popular Culture And Social Media Essay
Popular culture was, and perhaps still is, seen as a touchy and risky topic that should not be
experimented in by many educational institutions. Callahan and Low (2004) point out that popular
culture is looked upon unfavorably due to its fluid nature and habit of putting teachers in zones
outside their expertise and familiarity (p.52). Additionally, as described by GutiГ©rrez (2011)
popular cultureand the fandoms that inevitably followed were believed to create a single path by
which the individual merely payed tribute to a source material without having ever gained or
learned anything in return (p.227). Furthermore, Hull and Stornaiuolo (2010) assert that formal, or
standardized, schooling is skeptical of the potential educational value while magnifying the
potential risks of popular cultureand social media (p 85), perhaps prompting instructors to stick to
traditional techniques in lieu of potential dangers, to both students and their own job security. Why
then, despite the potentially debilitating aspects of popular culture in the classroom, do some
teachers still choose to incorporate them? Admittedly, I observed very few instances of pop culture
implementation during my first field experience, however those that did incorporate popular culture
did so naturally, enthusiastically, and so masterfully that it was without a doubt beneficial when
compared to classes that were kept material dry and by the books. Therefore, the real question
becomes: How do teachers

Mesopotamia is a Greek word meaning, Land between the Rivers . The Ancient Sumerians

The Legal Consent Of Gestational Surrogacy
In this Brief, the petitioner Julie Williams will be referred to as Julie, Appellant. Respondent
Jessie Sampson will be referred to as Jessie, Appellee.
ARGUMENT ON APPEAL
This court should answer the question Does the court have the right to allow Jessie Williams to
keep her daughter despite her earlier contract of surrogacy ? Based on the legal binding gestational
surrogacy contract.
The Merits
At issue in this petition is whether the determination by the trial court, should the child be turned
over to Julie Williams. In light, of this judgement solely based on prior gestational agreement forms,
Julie Williams is requesting that the decision be overturned and the surrogate turn over the child.
Currently there are several federal statutes governing the disposition of gestational surrogacy.
There is Florida Statutes 742.14 Part One, which states prior to engaging in gestational surrogacy,
binding and enforceable gestational surrogacy contract for gestational surrogacy shall not be
binding and enforceable unless the gestational surrogate is 18 years of age or older. Except as
provided the gestational surrogate agrees to relinquish any parental right upon the child s birth,
regardless of any impairment of the child. In addition, the gestational surrogate also agrees to
assume parental rights and responsibilities for the child born to her if it is determined that neither
member of the commissioning couple is the genetic parent of the child.

William Bennett Drug Policy And The Intellectuals Summary
In his essay, Drug Policy and the Intellectuals , William Bennett dissects the intellectuals role in the
National Drug Policy and explains that they are too uninterested and too lazy when it comes to this
debate. Bennett understands that the drug policy is a complex problem, and forcefully suggests
that it must be broken down carefully in order to find a conclusion that best fits our nation as a
whole. Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our
society has multiple drugrelated problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what
he believes to be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. Bennett explains
that the drug problem is not one that can be easily solved, therefore the simple act of legalizing
drugs would prove to being effective and the solution requires more analysis. He goes one to

EFFECT OF ROOM TEMPERATURE ON THE BURN RATE OF A CANDLE BURNS
Have you ever wondered whether a candle burns more quickly on a hot day, than on a cold day?
Or is it the other way around? This science fair project was carried out to compare how quickly a
candle will burn at different room temperatures. The experiment was done by measuring how much
of a candle will melt in 30 minutes when placed in an environment with surrounding temperatures
of 20В°C, 25В°C and 30В°C.
Hypothesis
A candle in a colder room will burn more slowly.

For this science fair project, the independent variable is the temperature of the room, i.e. 20В°C,
25В°C and 30В°C. The dependent variable is the length of the candle after it has burned for 30
minutes. This is determined by measuring the length of each candle with a ruler before it is lit and
after it has burned for 30 minutes. The constants (control variables) are the type and length of the
candle, the diameter of the candle and the time the candle is allowed to burn.
2. Using the ruler and caliper, the length and the diameter of the 15 candles are measured for
consistency. If the measurement of a candle deviates by more than 1 millimeter from the
average, have that candle replaced. All 15 chosen candles are labeled as A1 to A5 , B1 to B 5 and
C1 to C5 respectively. The length of the 15 candles is measured and recorded.
3. The air conditioner in the room is switched on and the room is left to is cool, until the room
temperature measures 20В°C. The temperature of the room is verified with the thermometer. The
candles marked A1 to A5 are lit in the room and the stopwatch is started. Ensure that windows are
closed and the candles are not placed anywhere near the air conditioner blower (avoid drafts). After
30 minutes, the flames on the candles are extinguished and the length of each candle is measured
again with a ruler. The reduction in candle length is calculated and recorded in the

Summary Of The Movie Moana
The animated Disney film, Moana, was released in November 2016 and directed by Ron Clements
and John Musker. The thing that sets this film apart from others is that the princess, Moana, doesn t
seek romance to feel full. Instead, this film demands for young children to embrace their family and
community while remaining heroic and authentic to their culture. Moana was an original film,
emotionally engaging, and it stuck to Disney s style while following its own rules. When I first
saw this film, I was relieved by the fact that this Disney princess movie had a romance free plot,
which asserts Moana s individuality and resilience unlike any other Disney characters in the rest of
the films. The directors took the style of a typical Disney princess film and gave it its own twist.
The film consists of the princess learning to lead from her ancestors by respecting her culture and
traditions, while continuing to be a courageous young woman, to help keep the community strong.
Instead of the princess falling in love with a prince, she fights to discover her true identity
throughout the whole film. The definitive themes of cultural appreciation and female
empowerment are what sets this Disney film apart from the rest and helps it become a huge
success. The striking visual imagination and the catchy tunes, which left me humming as I was

Within the protection and guarding of the apprenticeship, the guilds started to set up rules and

WAR FROM THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY TO INVENTION OF GUNPOWDER
The invention of the powerful artillery guns would change man s role in warring engagements.
The artillery guns at first were very limited by their own design. The guns were very heavy and
had to be transported by water, which meant that only towns and fortresses that were close to a
body of water could be attacked with artillery also known as the cannon. There were also some
fortresses that were impervious to the early cannon attacks based on strong designs or natural
defenses. The French were able to penetrate the round shaped castles and large walls during the

The problem with recruitment was solved in many ways. The most common method of
enlistment was actually through volunteering, but other men were forced to serve as well. The
volunteers were attracted to service because of the money, and recruits joined from the
mountains, towns, and even in war zones and the majority of them consisted of peasants or
townsmen that needed work. Many men joined the army to escape the life of their father s work,
to avoid criminal prosecution, to see more of the world, or to pursue honor. In addition to the
volunteers, the governments also used forceful means of enlistment by recruiting an entire
population of an area as a unit and forcing them to fight together. Other forms of forced recruiting
included soldiers of defeated armies and the use of conscripts. The most sought after combat
soldier was the veteran and many times a veteran would move from army to army depending on
which one would make him the most money. Financing the large organizations was no easy task
when so many mouths had to be feed, clothed, and armed. Not only were there a lot of soldiers,
but the price of weaponry was increasing as well. Combat basically comes down to one thing,
money; and the army that could last the longest was eventually able to wear down the enemy
instead of having to destroy their armies. Many times the kings of the 1700s would devote

Orleans is about. With all of these various cultural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular group of people that are unique to New Orleans are the Creoles. The history of
Creoles is very much entrenched in storytelling. Their way of life was the embodiment of
storytelling because it meant so much to their own unique culture that they cultivated. They
invented their own patois, or dialect, and concocted different cuisines that drew inspiration from
their diverse background ( New Orleans History and Geography ). Operas, another form of
storytelling, was considered the center of Creole social life (Saxon et al. 175). People often
mistake what Creole means and the role they played in the history of New Orleans, such as their
presence in the Battle of New Orleans ( New Orleans History and Geography ). They have
contributed greatly to the story of New Orleans that is presented to the outside world.
Throughout the city s illustrious history, folklore has been a prominent cultural artifact as a direct
result of the city s love and talent for telling stories. Folklore and legends are a necessity when
examining the living culture of storytelling, particularly in New Orleans. The magic and mystery
surrounding the city creates the perfect atmosphere for legends such as Marie Laveau. Marie
Laveau is one of the most widely known legends concerning New Orleans. This is because

The Importance Of Reflection
All professionals will find that reflecting on the way they carry out their work can help them
improve the quality of their skills. This is even more important in work involving a continual
increase in understanding, such as fields with ongoing research like osteopathy. ( Ncor 2017)
Reflecting has become a necessary skill for those in healthcare who want to provide the highest
level of care they can for their patients. It has been proposed that reflectionis a more meaningful
method of learning than formal teaching. (Jasper 2003) This essay will question that statement;
briefly describe how to reflect and will contrast the benefits and drawbacks.
Reflection process:
In a healthcare setting reflection is the process of critiquing one s experiences by analysing them
based on the relevant literature. (Reid 1993) Professor Graham Gibbs provides a 6 stage process
that can be followed: (Gibbs 1988)
Description simply describe what has happened. It can be useful to describe the experience in the
most matter of fact way so that it can be examined clearly.
Feelings explain how the incident made you feel.
Evaluation explain what was good and/or bad about the incident. This will help in identifying what
areas need additional study.
Analysis what understanding do you have of the incident? This step is crucial in developing
skill but can also be the most challenging. This step requires the practitioner being able to look at
the experience objectively. The nature of being self critical is that it comes easier to some than
it does for others. Someone with a large ego may have a lot of trouble with this stage but to truly
reflect they will need to learn to be able to criticise themselves. Reflection without critical analysis
has little value as it will serve to mask weak areas of knowledge (Kralik, 2005)
Conclusion decide whether you could have done anything else.
Action plan using the knowledge gained from the previous stages prepare for if the situation arises
again.
Strengthening through reflection:
The osteopathic standards (OPS) are put in place to ensure a high standard of care is carried out
by all UK osteopaths. B4 of the OPS states that professional knowledge and skills must be kept up

Mitochondria Case Study
In relation to mitochondria, abnormality in appearance occurred during normal muscle weakness,
and no mitochondria fragments left in a neuron occurred a few weeks before paralysis (Kong and
Xu 1998). Abnormalities in mitochondria were prominent in motor neurons before muscle
weakness began, and the link between mitochondria degeneration and motor neurondeath is the
mutant SOD1 gene. These results showed that mitochondria deterioration is associated with the
beginning of the disease, and SOD1 toxicity is the feature that damages the mitochondria; this is
also related to motor neuron death in the fact that this triggers the deterioration of motor neuron
cells (Kong and Xu 1998). In other words, damage to mitochondria is the center of motor neuron
degeneration. This study explained the physiological steps to muscle weakness in patients with...

2005). This is significant because the location of the gene could have different effects on the
mitochondria and the neuron itself. The experiment used Western blotting as the main method of
completing the study, and used mice as subjects (in vitro and in vivo experiments). The findings
were that SOD1 localizes more in the brain mitochondria than in the liver, and the SOD1 are
inside and on the surface of the mitochondria in the spinal cord (Vijayvergiya et al. 2005). The
results suggest that damage to mitochondria may trigger the start of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,
and this study could provide an insight to the specificity of neuron degeneration. With the fact that
SOD1 was more in the brain and spinal cord than anywhere else, the central nervous system is
affected and the activities of the body are at risk. This analysis intended to discover where mutant
SOD1 combines in the mitochondria of the brain and spinal cord, and how this might contribute to
selective neuron death (Vijayvergiya et al.

What is a stakeholder? Name and briefly discuss/describe specific stakeholders that you will
likely need to consult with for your proposal. Name, describe, and discuss at least five

may also include people who have a strong interest in the effort for academic, philosophical, or
political reasons, even though they and their families, friends, and associates are not directly
affected by it (Community Toolbox, 2016). In addition, there are different types of stakeholders

Why People Emigrate From Their Native Countries
Every year, most countries lose half of their population to migration. These countries are left behind
in the areas such as developmental and economical growth. The government and the people living
in that Country suffer the consequences such as low productivity and poor academic performance
due to lack of qualified teachers. People emigrate from their native countries for economic, familial,
and educational reasons.
Economic issues are one of the reasons people emigrate from their native land to other
Countries. One example, is the high cost of living and low wages in some native Countries.
Most people in their native land are deprived of having easy access to the most common things
such as food, electricity, and housing. The high cost of living often forces individuals to search
for an alternative place to live leading them to emigrate to a place that is more affordable. Low
wages also play a big role in migration. To elaborate, a teacher who teaches in high schoolin their
native country obtains a much lower hourly wage and hardly any benefits than another teacher with
the same qualifications teaching in a different country. When this happens, people in their native
land have no choice but to emigrate to a country where they can get higher wages and better
benefits. As a result, the country loses its people who would have helped move the country forward
in terms of education and this results in poor academic performance of students who are in the
country. Not only do

  • 2. How Do Political Cartoons Affect Political Issues Do political cartoons affect the public views on political issues? They have had a significant impact on people in the past, because they were able to show the political views of the author in a simple, and easy to understand way. Cartoons can shed light onto unknown problems as well as affect people s opinions on controversial issues. In the cartoons, men are portrayed as animals to show they were acting savagely, or cartoons were set in already known stories so that they could compare the similarities. Just because the images are simplified does not mean that their effects are any less important. Their problems include: the indecency of racial suffrage, the disparity in leadership, and the overshadowing of suffering. Cartoons are often drawn around events that the audience would recognize. For instance, the story of Sampson, in which he kept his power so long as he did not cut his hair. When Delilah, his wife and the person he trusted most, cut off his hair, he lost all of his power. One particular cartoon portrays the United States as Delilah, removing Sampson s hair. Sampson is portrayed as a black man, with his hair being a depiction of his right to vote. This implied that because the U.S. was stripping the black men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone who was there to support his actions and give him feedback. Mary Todd Lincoln wasn t always a Lincoln, her maiden name was Mary Ann Todd otherwise known as Molly . She was born in Lexington, Kentuckyin the date of December 13, 1818. Mary s hometown: Lexington was surprisingly founded by her family. She was the daughter of Robert Smith Todd and Elizabeth Ann Todd. She had two brothers and two sisters. She was born into a wealthy family who didn t have to suffer and gave her the basic resources she needed growing up (Mary Ann Lincoln (Todd), www.Geni.com). Although, at the age of six, her mother Elizabeth passed away and afterwards her father decided that it was time to re marry. Other than this, her infancy was pretty set up to a good start, because she had a good educational career. She even had a private education throughout her life and attended the Aristocracy of Lexington (Mary Todd Lincoln, Whitehouse.gov). As a child, Mary was always lively and impulsive with the way she acted and the decisions she made. Even her parents and friends recognized this. Still, when she grew up, she kept her personality the same and this brought both fortune and misfortune. While still in her educational steps, she overachieved in arts and also in cultural studies. • 4. Anglo Saxon England Research Paper Until today, the English monarchs bear the title Duke of Normandy. Anglo Saxon England refers to the period of English history from the end of Roman Britain and the establishment of Anglo Saxon kingdoms. Through the sub Roman period of English history, there is a strong cultural link back to the period of Roman occupation. Relations were closer with Scandinavia than with central Europe. Despite the geographical proximity of the French coast when the Anglo Saxon period ended and the Norman period began. Moreover, this comparative isolation from Europe also ended. By the end of the Anglo Saxon period, England had taken the shape of the country that continues to be the Kingdom of England now within the United Kingdomof Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Throughout the long Anglo Saxon period of England s history, the kingdoms existed as an offshore island of continental Europe. The subsequent mixture of Anglo Saxon and Norman French cultures became, over the years, a foundation for integrating England into the European cultural life. • 6. The Child That Lives From Within Jazmine Feijo Professor Don Moore AHSS 1210 21 November 2014 The Child that Lives from Within The social sciences often question if psychopathic behaviour is innate or a product of social environment. The answer seems difficult to discern because it is not split down into equal parts of nurture and nature, but rather rely on one another for a better understanding. In the movie Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock, Norman Bates downfall proposes how crucial a healthy childhood is to the mental state of developing child. Contrary to nature focused beliefs, not all human behaviour comes from an individual s genetic makeup, but rather through experiences that become ingrained in the mind like scripture (Cooke 25). Theories proposed by Sigmund Freud and other research comparing the relation between psychopathy and environment can help to rationalize the reasons behind Norman Bates unsuccessful childhood, the impact of his parent child relationship on his self perception, and the influence of his upbringing on external relationships. Despite the age of the theories and the year of the film, the question concerning if Norman Bates mental state is innate or a gradual creation provides an understanding of current parent child relationship issues. To be familiar with the cringing extent of vacant family bonds emphasizes how necessary it is for parents to build a strong relationship with their child or suffer the consequences. • 7. Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the few religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and grow up with it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism, Shinto has no known founder. With that said, Shintoalso has a unique view of the problem of evil and suffering. For some religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the problem of evil and he took a more optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even mentioning Shintoism as a happy religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism addresses the problem of evil in that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of purity. Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and evil in aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans. This spirit is the cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts because of the works of the curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral behavior is associated with balance of ... • 8. The Setting Of Dracula By William Shakespeare Activity 1 The setting of Dracula took place in Transylvania at Castle Dracula and travels over to Whitby. The author decided to pick this place because this was the birthplace of the Dracula stories. By using this it connected more with the original stories of Dracula instead of taking it somewhere else and make it more of a duplicate. While reading this book it made me feel like I was up and close to Dracula. If the setting would have taken place in a different place it would just have been another vampire book and not about Dracula himself. Activity 2 Two characters that should be brought to the light are Count Dracula and Van Helsing. Count Dracula, or Dracula for short, is an old vampire as well as a Transylvania citizen. Since he is a vampire he is possessed with a dark entity. This curse comes with both powers and burdens. As a vampire he is able to shape shift to any animal he wants, control the weather, and has the strength of about 20 men. Some of the burdens that comes with this is that he can t enter a victim s house without being invited in, can t cross water without being held, and becomes weak when in presence of sunlight. I bent over him, and tried to find any sign of life, but in vain (pg. 52 53). Between me and the moonlight flitted a great bat, coming and going great, whirling circles (pg. 103). In third Challenge Problem, the CFD models did better than their performance in first and second challenge problems organized by PSRI. The miniCFB was made out of clear acrylic pieces. Operators can clearly see the dynamics of gas particle mixing throughout the riser. They can visually record the height of moving solids or bed height in the standpipe. The particles swirl indicating rotational dynamics inside the cyclone is clearly visible during gas solid separation. Researchers may take image of gas solid interactions at any section of the rig, be it at the interface of the L valve and riser entrance or at the riser exit and crossover. For instance, a high speed particle image velocimetry (PIV) using a shadowing technique counted accurate number of falling particles in the lean region of standpipe. The shadowing method gives improved depth of focus enhancing accurate measurement of solid circulation rate at steady state. The solid circulation rate connects the dynamics of a CFB riser and its return loop. The parameter strongly affects heat and mass transfer between particles and gas, and between particles and particles. It greatly influences the mixing and reaction times, residence time distribution, performance and hydrodynamics of the overall system. The full loop simulation of the DEM model produces the solid circulation rate as the output rather than requiring it as an input. Callahan and Low (2004) point out that popular culture is looked upon unfavorably due to its fluid nature and habit of putting teachers in zones outside their expertise and familiarity (p.52). Additionally, as described by GutiГ©rrez (2011) popular cultureand the fandoms that inevitably followed were believed to create a single path by which the individual merely payed tribute to a source material without having ever gained or learned anything in return (p.227). Furthermore, Hull and Stornaiuolo (2010) assert that formal, or standardized, schooling is skeptical of the potential educational value while magnifying the potential risks of popular cultureand social media (p 85), perhaps prompting instructors to stick to traditional techniques in lieu of potential dangers, to both students and their own job security. Why then, despite the potentially debilitating aspects of popular culture in the classroom, do some teachers still choose to incorporate them? Admittedly, I observed very few instances of pop culture implementation during my first field experience, however those that did incorporate popular culture did so naturally, enthusiastically, and so masterfully that it was without a doubt beneficial when compared to classes that were kept material dry and by the books. Therefore, the real question becomes: How do teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Bennett Drug Policy And The Intellectuals Summary In his essay, Drug Policy and the Intellectuals , William Bennett dissects the intellectuals role in the National Drug Policy and explains that they are too uninterested and too lazy when it comes to this debate. Bennett understands that the drug policy is a complex problem, and forcefully suggests that it must be broken down carefully in order to find a conclusion that best fits our nation as a whole. Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our society has multiple drugrelated problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what he believes to be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. Bennett explains that the drug problem is not one that can be easily solved, therefore the simple act of legalizing drugs would prove to being effective and the solution requires more analysis. For this science fair project, the independent variable is the temperature of the room, i.e. 20В°C, 25В°C and 30В°C. The dependent variable is the length of the candle after it has burned for 30 minutes. This is determined by measuring the length of each candle with a ruler before it is lit and after it has burned for 30 minutes. The constants (control variables) are the type and length of the candle, the diameter of the candle and the time the candle is allowed to burn. 2. Using the ruler and caliper, the length and the diameter of the 15 candles are measured for consistency. If the measurement of a candle deviates by more than 1 millimeter from the average, have that candle replaced. All 15 chosen candles are labeled as A1 to A5 , B1 to B 5 and C1 to C5 respectively. The thing that sets this film apart from others is that the princess, Moana, doesn t seek romance to feel full. Moana was an original film, emotionally engaging, and it stuck to Disney s style while following its own rules. When I first saw this film, I was relieved by the fact that this Disney princess movie had a romance free plot, which asserts Moana s individuality and resilience unlike any other Disney characters in the rest of the films. This is even more important in work involving a continual increase in understanding, such as fields with ongoing research like osteopathy. ( Ncor 2017) Reflecting has become a necessary skill for those in healthcare who want to provide the highest level of care they can for their patients. It has been proposed that reflectionis a more meaningful method of learning than formal teaching. (Jasper 2003) This essay will question that statement; briefly describe how to reflect and will contrast the benefits and drawbacks. Reflection process: In a healthcare setting reflection is the process of critiquing one s experiences by analysing them based on the relevant literature. (Reid 1993) Professor Graham Gibbs provides a 6 stage process that can be followed: (Gibbs 1988) Description simply describe what has happened. It can be useful to describe the experience in the most matter of fact way so that it can be examined clearly. Feelings explain how the incident made you feel. Evaluation explain what was good and/or bad about the incident. This will help in identifying what areas need additional study. Analysis what understanding do you have of the incident? This step is crucial in developing skill but can also be the most challenging. This step requires the practitioner being able to look at the experience objectively. The nature of being self critical is that it comes easier to some than it does for others. Someone with a large ego may have a lot of trouble with this stage but to truly reflect they will need to learn to be able to criticise themselves. Reflection without critical analysis has little value as it will serve to mask weak areas of knowledge (Kralik, 2005) Conclusion decide whether you could have done anything else. Action plan using the knowledge gained from the previous stages prepare for if the situation arises again. These countries are left behind in the areas such as developmental and economical growth. The government and the people living in that Country suffer the consequences such as low productivity and poor academic performance due to lack of qualified teachers. People emigrate from their native countries for economic, familial, and educational reasons. Economic issues are one of the reasons people emigrate from their native land to other Countries. One example, is the high cost of living and low wages in some native Countries. Most people in their native land are deprived of having easy access to the most common things such as food, electricity, and housing. The high cost of living often forces individuals to search for an alternative place to live leading them to emigrate to a place that is more affordable. Low wages also play a big role in migration. To elaborate, a teacher who teaches in high schoolin their native country obtains a much lower hourly wage and hardly any benefits than another teacher with the same qualifications teaching in a different country. When this happens, people in their native land have no choice but to emigrate to a country where they can get higher wages and better benefits. As a result, the country loses its people who would have helped move the country forward in terms of education and this results in poor academic performance of students who are in the country.
