Professionalism Is Defined As Work Place Behaviors
To remain productive and successful in the workplace, an individual must maintain a superior
level of professionalism. Professionalism is defined as work place behaviors that result in positive
business relationships. In the How Do You Rate assessments, all of my results showed a clear
understanding in business etiquette. To put in my own words what professionalism means to me, it
is your ability to demonstrate yourself in an appropriate, responsible, goaldetermined manner,
while working respectively and alongside your business community. Your professionalism is
presented by you and interpreted by others. The projections you portray to others can increase
/decrease the value of your input in the workplace. I have developed an action plan that will
guide myself to achieve the highest professionalism possible. I decided to call my brother up to
ask his input on professionalism. Jason is a graduate from Georgetown University with a finance
major. He is currently working for a commercial real estate finance company in Washington D.C.
and is blessed with a great job and great opportunities . I asked him how he defines
professionalism, and he answered, Professionalism is who you are within the company, and how
your values are perceived by others. I told him about my paper and he mentioned to speak on the
proper attitude to have, the appearance to show, the communication skills to have, and the
motivation to achieve your goals. The first step in the direction of professionalism

Is Conspiracy Theory Wrong
On September 11, 2001 four planes were taken over and two flew into the twin towers while one
crashed into the Pentagon, the other decenegrated in a field. Could this all have been made up and
bombs were the reason the towers fell? Some people don t think so, and they argue against the fact
of conspiracy theories. A conspiracy theoryis a theory about an event that happened do to a plot by
a covert group. Whether this is the government or pilots we have multiple conspiracy theories out
there. While many government officials believe it is hurting the government s reputation, other ex
government officials want to get the word out that they are so very real. Not evening considering

According to Jan Willem van Prooijen, I propose that these psychological processes are
characterized by the joint influence of at least two complementary factors, namely subjective
uncertainty, and a social concern for others (Prooijen para 4). Later on he stated it was from a
social hierarchy(actors, media stars, and political leaders) in which we believe in. Based on
Prooijens proposal I agree to a point with the process. I first gained my knowledge of conspiracy
theories from a well known Youtuber, Shane Dawson. Once I was introduced, I fell in love them
these ideas. Taken from a non believer standpoint, I can understand how they agree with what
their eyes have seen and what political leaders tell them. It is also very difficult to wrap your
head around something you have known for many years to come out a different way. It is very
hard to understand why a flight carrying 239 people can suddenly vanish without a trace with
nothing left behind or the how the government restricts us from a highly private area, area 51, and
won t explain the means behind it. Or while we have thought for multiple years that we had
someone step on the moon when now we easily think it could have been faked out. The believers
and non believers have a somewhat understanding of each other. Everyone just needs to accept and
appreciate the opinions of one

Ketamine Essay
Introduction
Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the
researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time
of action.
Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR
antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of
ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine
reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant
effects of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal
ideations (9 12). Despite a successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between
glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent
proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)
(24, 25).
Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on
hyperforin which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound
extracted from Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and
hyperforin attenuated symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both
extract and hyperforin displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28).
From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on
ligand gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+,
K+, and Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane,
hyperforin can increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and
probably involved a few different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies
increased the Ca2+ intracellular level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor
potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). As has been
previously shown hyperforin activates intracellular

The Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is one of the most controversial topics in American history, and even now it still
continues to be debated. With over three million deaths from the war, was it really worth it? From
the abominable outcome of this war, it is highly favorable that United States Troops should not
have been deployed to Vietnamdue segregation it caused within the American country and
resulting over 58,000 American deaths. As complex as this war may seem, this disputable
conflict started earlier in spite of what others might imagine. Vietnam is a southeastern Asian
country that has been occupied by the French since the early 19th Century. During War War II
Japanese forces invaded Vietnam. In order for the native Vietnamese to fight off both the French
Colonial Administration and the invading Japanese, political leader Ho Chi Minh inspired by
Soviet Communism, established the League of Independence of Vietnam. After Japan s defeat in
World War II in 1945, the Japanese withdrew their forces from Vietnam. The French educated
Emperor Bao Dai was now back in control of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh saw this as an opportunity to
finally gain control and almost immediately took control of the northern city of Hanoi. Ho Chin
Minh declared himself as president. In hopes to regain control of Hanoi, France backed Emperor
Bao and created the state of Vietnam in 1949. Although both sides wanted the same goal of uniting
Vietnam, their government views were drastically different. Ho and his followers wanted the
nation to be modeled after other communist countries. While Bao and his followers wanted their
country to be in close ties with democratic countries in the west. These causes led to a civil war for
the sole control of Vietnam.
The Vietnam War and active United States involvement in the war began in 1954, although the
ongoing conflict in the region had stretched back several decades. It wasn t until 1965 that
President Johnson, with the support of the general public, decided to deploy US combat forces to
battle in Vietnam. Eventually, 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and soon military
leaders were calling for 175,000 more men by the end of 1965 to help aid the struggling South
Vietnamese army. Disregarding

Tea Cake In The Great Gatsby
Many people believe that a person s name is just as important as who that person is on the inside
regarding the kind of personality traits they possess. Tea cakes from Zora Neale Hurston s Their
Eyes Were Watching God; Blanche DuBois in Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire;
and Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby all had great significance amongst their
names which helped to unveiled the truth behind who they were. In Their Eyes Were Watching
God Tea Cake has a name with more positive associations. When Janie first hears his name, she
says, Tea Cake! So you sweet as all dat? The answer is yes, he is sweet. Tea Cake values Janie s
personality and company, which is why he wants to be near her and have her work beside him.
Tea Cake also feels a strong duty and obligation toward his wife such as to provide for her material
things, protect her from dangers, etc. Another characteristic that shows he s a sweet person is his
willingness to both talk and listen. Janie s previous husbands did not possess these... Show more

We learned the main characted was born with the name James Gatz, but he changed it to Jay
Gatsby. The reason he changed his name is because he wanted a new identity to reflect his new
lifestyle. In addition, one can associate his name with his criminal background. Oh, I ve been in
several things, he corrected himself, I was in the drug business and then I was in the oil
business. But I m not in either now. (90) He changes his name the very moment he sees his first
opportunity to make money: helping a man called Dan Cody to smuggle alcohol into American
from Canada when he was 17 years old. Although he never openly admits he was in illegal
business, we can assume from the story that he had gained his power and wealth through criminal
behavior suggested by his name. To top that theory off another name for a gun is a gat , which is
ironic because he ends up being killed with a gun, and it has criminal relation to

Japanese Silk Factories Dbq Essay
Americans work an average of 34.4 hours a week, longer than their counterparts in the world s
largest economies ; but that amount of hours would ve meant paradise for mill workers in England
and Japan during the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution developed in England
during the 1700 s and in the late 1800 s, it moved to Japan. With the need for more textile
production at the mills, women and children began to get employed. Nevertheless, the female
Japanese and English mill workers had the same job and their experiences were quite similar. In
both Japan and England, the workers suffered through similar treatment, working conditions, and
demographics played a big role in their daily lives. Thesis.

Industrial Revolution, which included a report saying The women, in nine cases out of ten, have
only themselves to support, while the men, generally have families (Document M). Again, this
quote supports the claim that women were most likely to get a job because men had to be paid
more since they had more people to support. In addition, Edwin Hopwood, A History of the
Lancashire Cotton Industry and the Amalgamated Weaver s Association, also researched women s
lives after being factory workers. The epithet of factory girl was the most insulting that could be
applied to a young woman, and the girls who had once been in a factory could never find
employment elsewhere (Document N) describes how being a female factory worker was the worst

Themes In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner tells a peculiar tale about a mariner and his 200 crewmate who
started a voyage to the equator. Alone, alone, all, all alone, Alone on a wide sea! And never a
saint took pity on My soul in agony. This quote relates to the Ancient Mariner when he was
isolated on the ocean while his crew was laying dead on the ship. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is a collection of Lyrical Ballads that tells a story of a mariner and
his crew who went on a journey but ended getting forced to change their destination by a strong
storm. They became isolated and trapped without a way out until an Albatrosscame and a path was
opened for them. As the story progresses the Ancient Mariner and his crew committed a crime
against nature when the Ancient mariner killed the Albatrossthe bird of good omen and his crew
justified his action. As a result of their actions, the Ancient Mariner and his crew were faced with an
unprecedented consequence. Nature will seek vengeance against the Ancient Mariner and his crew
for killing the Albatross. The Ancient mariner and his crew faced the consequences of their crime
which left the Ancient Mariner in a life in death state and his crewmate dead. Three themes present
in the poem was isolation and crime against nature and redemption.
And through the drifts, the snowy clifts Did send a dismal sheen: Nor shapes of men nor beasts

What Is The Theme Of Endgame
Outline 1 Definitions: a)The frustration of not achieving a goal and antagonistic and annoying
actions like offenses, gashes and blusters has definitely led to anger. b)Unlike other aversive
emotions such as grief and fear, which include suppression and retreat, Dagleish identifies anger as
a negative emotion, but includes a positive approach. c)Cox and Harrison simply define the
structure of anger as a multidimensional one with different influence and cognitive dimensions and
various psychological elements that take part in anger process. 2 Origins and Emergence : a)The
20th century marked a change in many aspects of people s life. In politics and social life, people

the time is presented to tranquilize Hamm s pain. On the other hand, time never accomplishes
termination and characters are out of time. As time progresses, it loses its direction. 11 Theme: the
most considerable theme in Endgame is the theme of seclusion and solitude. This theme is
connected with the absurdity of human condition, which sprouts from the deficiency of
communication. In the play, characters believe that nothing in the exterior universe deserves living
for. 12 Plot: In Endgame, there is a type of cyclical plot development. Although the play
encompasses one act, a cyclical plot is introduced as well. There is no repetition in the play to be
actually conveyed, but a few repetitions that shapes and forms from what characters can say about
themselves. 13 Langauge: Throughout the play, certain words are reduplicated in the dialogues
between Hamm and Clov. These words besides what the title proposes that nothing matchless will
occur and strengthens the theme of the termination. This asserts Clov s and Hamm s perspective of
the outside universe, in which they observe the extrinsic world as

Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary
Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to
applicants during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems
designed, in some cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the
applicant from interview to orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some
employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from
discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207)
Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but
provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began
but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of
pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to
create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring
the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true intentions of employers had to be
exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their actual pay. It reveals how unfair it
is for applicants. It felt as though the author was suddenly stopped... Show more content on

By using whisking , it implies that the applicants were rushed into orientation. This term is often
used in baking as well. It seems as if the author is making a comparison between the applicants
and the ingredients of a batter. Both belong in one whole mixture so they are rapidly whipped
together to make one. The goal for both scenarios is to have a finished product without any
complications. Money is often a problem that arises during the hiring process so the employers
hustle to avoid this complication. If the author was making this association, it implies that she feels
the applicants are just one piece of a whole and are not important as

Courage And Defiance Book Report
Courage Defiance is about World War Two in Denmark. On April 9, 1940, the government of
Denmark had surrendered to the Nazis. The reason that the government surrendered was
because that the army was very small and weak compared to the Germans. There are thirty two
characters in this novel, but I will name of the ones that sound the most important to me: Niels
Skov, Jorgen Kieler, Thomas Sneum. These people spied and sabotage the Nazis in order to save
their country. Niels Skov was just an apprentice toolmaker that want to save his country. When
Niels found out what was going on in his country he was angry, brash and confident. He wasn t

The Contributions Of John Stuart Mill
John Stuart Mill was a British philosopher who was born on May 20, 1806 in London, England, to
Harriet Burrow and James Mill, a noted economist, philosopher and historian. James Mill was an
educated man who was heavily involved in an early 19th century movement called philosophic
radicalism, a school of thought also known as Utilitarianism, which highlighted the demand for a
scientific foundation for philosophy, as well as a humanist approach to economics politics. It was
this foundation from which James Millurged and advanced his eldest son s education from a very
early age. John Stuart studied Greek at age three and Latin at eight, and he was asked to recite
everything he had learned to his father every day. John Stuart also studied mathematics and science
for his personal enjoyment and would engage in long discussions with his father about histories and
biographies that he had read. It is interesting to note that John Stuart was also empowered with the
responsible for educating his eight younger siblings. His childhood comprised of a strict
environment of learning, teachings and tutoring, however, John Stuart felt that he was emotionally
compromised by his father s educational plan. Although John Stuart never actually attended
university, by the age of twenty, he essentially had a postgraduate self education in logic, political
economy and law. As an adult, John Stuart once stated that, out of all of his studies, teachings and
education, the element that he

Annotated Bibliography On Artificial Intelligence
Annotated Bibliography (Draft) Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact
it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial
Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years,
and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the
technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to
smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of
technology . Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss,
and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds. For
those who do not know, artificial intelligence is exactly what is called, an intelligence through a
computer that is artificially created by humans. A.I. is defined to be able to learn and use the
information it learns to produce thoughts of its own, almost as if it were a thinking human.
Though many may believe A.I. is just a robot which is able to speak and understand humans, it is
much more than that. A.I. technologies are being implemented in smartphones, homes, cars,
watches, headphones, and is also being developed to work in many more ways that help give
humanity an easier life. My background knowledge is somewhat fair. During my senior year of
high school I did a science research on the project, and it showed me little of what

Lovely bones is about a girl named Susie Solomon who got murder in December 6, 1973, when

Corruption In I Claudius
I, Claudius is a fictional autobiography written in the voice of the fourth Roman Emperor, Tiberius
Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus Claudius for short. The story recounts the period of the
founding of the Roman Empire to the coronation of Claudius himself; but, as seen from the
perspective of Claudius an adamant republican the Roman Empireis one that is doomed to fall,
prophesied by the Sibyl of Cumae, due to political instability and dangerous power struggles.
Similar to the Roman Empire of I, Claudius, the Britain of King Lear also falls into a state of
political chaos akin to anarchy; the sudden abdication of Lear and his senility ultimately bring
about the unravelling of his family, followers, and kingdom. The following power struggles in
Rome and Britain lead to the corruption of many individuals in their respective time periods.
Both I, Claudius by Robert Graves and King Lear by William Shakespeare, set during times of
political turbulence, suggest that the competition for and possession of power can corrupt and alter
individuals and society. Both works are set in times of political turbulence, times in which people
would seize the opportunity to gain absolute power or at least an upper hand over others. In I,
Claudius, Livia, Claudius grandmother, proves to be an incredibly ambitious woman, with the
political acumen to match. Before the birth of the Roman Empire, the Second Triumvirate,
consisting of Mark Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian (at that time), ruled the

Growth of Human Population and Its Effect on the Environment
The growth of the human population has been strikingly apparent that the rate of growth has been
much steeper than recent times. The earlier Homo sapiens were vegetarians and gathers they
hunted and fished for food. With increased knowledge humans learned how to farm, domesticate
animals and used irrigation to meet their needs. The knowledge of water and sewer conditions
along with better medical care and agriculture made life easier. Earlier man did not have these
factors and the populationremained stable, for over thousands of years. The Toba super volcano is

TB control in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, Hurtig et al.(2002) found that the public sector, despite the
will, did not have the structure or resources to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the
responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to
external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3].
Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the
ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather
limited flexibility in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of
checks and balances [2]. Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have
pinpointed the importance of communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP,
NGOs, PPs and other providers. In Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB
centre recognised the need for regular contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM
DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to
participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However,
despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular basis, these interactions were inherently
unequal and ambivalent. TB HVs were in the awkward position of exercising control over PPs: one
the one hand, PPs were the profession they would respect and obey otherwise; on the other hand,
the non medical status of the TB HVs limited their interaction with the

How Somatic Experience Is Reflected In Spoken Therapy
This workshop focuses on how somatic experience is reflected in spoken therapy. The workshop
offers the perspective of a DMT and her endeavors to integrate this approach in her training in
verbal psychotherapy. By using somatic experiences we will explore ways in which body
awareness informs clinical practice. Followed by examples that illustrate the movement beyond
the polarity of verbal and nonverbal. Participants will have a chance to see how bodily practice are
used in verbal therapy. Finally, using both somatic and cognitive reflection, we will attempt to
embrace the tension between dichotomizing and integrating the verbal and the nonverbal.
This workshop will provide a dance/movement therapy perspective to analyze spoken therapy. It
will be focused on possible areas of integration and overlap that could make the bodily
interventions and movement observation tools applicable in spoken therapy. The workshop will

The Simpsons Television Show as a Pop Culture Icon Essay
The definition of the typical American family has changed considerably over time. Ever since
the age of television dawned on American culture, situation comedies have tried to portray the
typical American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950 s, there
was Leave It to Beaver which represented a generic view of the American family during its time.
There was a father whose responsibility was to financially support the family and be a role model
for his children. There was a mother whose job was that of a typical housewife, taking care of the
home and caring for the children. And there were the children who had no responsibilities, except to
respect their parents and listen to their advice when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The show was all but ignored by the older viewing public, who discounted it as a trashy cartoon.
The consumption (Delingpole) of the program and its messages by the American public when the
show first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the
show intended. On face value alone, The Simpsons is not much more than a cartoon about a
middle class family and their ridiculous escapades. But when examined more closely and with a
more objective eye ? consumed as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that The
Simpsons is truly a comment on American society.
The Simpsons basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. The typical
American is a blue collar worker not unlike the father, Homer, who works a mindless job at the
local nuclear power plant in the Simpsons hometown of Springfield which is basically Anytown,
USA. Marge, the mother, is a fairly typical housewife besides her large blue beehive hairdo. Bart,
is the rebellious older son; Lisa, the under appreciated middle child; and Maggie, the adorable baby.
The Simpsons don t live in luxury, but they are a generally happy family that encounters the
problems of everyday, and not so everyday, life, something that millions can relate to. But there is
something that sets The Simpsons apart from the

The Handmaid s Tale Dystopian Essay
The Dystopian concerns in The Road and The Handmaid s Tale Dystopian novels have a prominent
role in American fiction after 1945. When one talks about Dystopian subgenre, it envisions a time
not so distant from the present that world is in an unpleasant time which can deal with either
government fallen under a totalitarian rule or the environment is in a degradable state. There are
two specific novels that fall under this subgenre: The Road and The Handmaid s Tale. The Road
deals with the outcome of the environment in the United States after a nuclear outbreak, and The
Handmaid s Tale deals with the idea of theocracy and the thin line that separates church and state,
concerns that can make up a dystopian novel. The Road deals with the United States in the not so
far future being damaged to an unrepairable state by unknown nuclear outbreak which is one
concern that is focused on in a dystopian novel. A man and boy must find faith in order to continue
their journey to the coast, where there might be an escape. Through out the novel there is many

Domestic Violence Is A Serious And Ever Growing Problem
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a serious and ever growing problem that the United States is faced with.
Many people have suffered from domestic violence, and many more are still suffering even though
the abuse ended years ago. Domestic violence victims still continue to suffer from the experience to
this day. The effects of domestic violence creates something that will stick with the victim for a
lifetime. Because victims fear reporting their problems to the police, many accounts of domestic
violence goes unreported (American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, 2001).
Ignorance to the problem of domestic violence will lead to many people becoming unsocial,
suicidal, depressed, and many other problems. Domestic violence will end when people feel
safe with their intimate partners and are comfortable with who they are. People need to be
aware of what domestic violence is and what the effects of an abuser are so they can avoid ever
getting into a relationship that will eventually lead to violence. If people focus on the problems
domestic violence creates, then people will feel safer with their partners and domestic violence
will start to decrease in homes. This paper is intended to inform others about what victims of
domestic violence suffer from, what they feel, and why they feel it. The following information is in
depth research about the effects of domestic violence on victims. Victims of domestic violence
suffer from many disorders or trauma issues, and this

Summary Of Celia Behind Me
Isabel Huggan s Celia Behind Me is a short story about bullying. It depicts a young Elizabeth
who finds solace and is accepted by her peers because she takes part in intimidating her
schoolmate Celia. Unlike them, she goes too far, physically assaults the girl and, unknowingly,
digs a hole into a world of suffering and despair. Using various repeating motifs and a similar
characterization of the two characters, Huggan demonstrates that those who purposefully do wrong
to others will eventually also suffer themselves. To start off, various motifs represent the similar
fates of the bully as well as the victim. In fact, a motif of watermelons, which represent heads, is
present throughout the story. Elizabeth first talks of her aunts ... [whose] heads smashed together

The Eureka Hunt Summary
The article, The Eureka Hunt, introduces us with the story of a firefighter,Wag Dodge and his
survival during an out of control fire in the Mann Gulch, in Montana. The fire was spreading faster
and heading toward the direction of the firefighters. Dodge, in a moment of insight, had an escape
plan; he stopped running, igniting the ground in front of him with a match, drenched his hanker
chef with water, and laid down on the smoldering embers, as the fire past him. His quick decision is
a mere example which psychologist and neuroscientists use to determine the insight experience.

trying to figure out what happens inside the brain when people have an insight.... Show more

In doing so, he conducted experimental word puzzles to see if it could be solved by insight or
by analysis. He teamed up with John Kounios, a neuroscientist at Drexel University, who both
share the same interest in insight. With both their ideas, they combined EEG and fMRI testings
to scan people s brain while they solved the puzzles to see if it can construct a precise map, both
in time and space, of the insight process. The resulting studies, published in 2004 and 2006, found
that people who solved puzzles with insight were using a portion of the cortical areas. According
to Jung Beeman and Kounios, a small fold of tissue on the surface of the right hemisphere, the
anterior superior temporal gyrus (aSTG) becomes active first before insight occurs. Once the brain
is focused on the problem, the cortex needs to relax, in order for the right hemisphere to provide
insight. But as Jung Beeman and Kounios concluded, by trying to force insight can actually prevent
insight; the brain must focus on the task but at the same time it has to be accidental. Earl Miller, a
neuroscientist at M.I.T., spent years studying the prefrontal

Andrew Marvell, “to His Coy Mistress”
Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress In To His Coy Mistress the speaker carefully constructs a
subtle and logical argument as to why his addressee should sexually unite with him. The speaker
attempts this proposition through finesse in manipulating reason, form and imagery. The reasoning
employed would be familiar to a reader educated in Renaissance England, as it is reminiscent of
classical philosophical logic, entailing a statement, a counter statement and a resolution. In line with
this method Marvell s speaker codes his argument in classical imagery. To understand this argument
I will be approaching the poem in three clearly defined sections, which are denoted in the poem
with indented lines. The first of these section... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next section runs from lines 21 to 32, here the speaker moves away from the hypothetical to
reality but retains the melodramatic language used in the previous section to sustain the tenacity
of his points. Time here is portrayed as chasing the speaker as opposed to being something the
speaker is in control of as in the end of the last section. This is done using the image of a winged
chariot (l.22), this has classical associations with Greek mythology which relates to his form of
argument. The meter of the poem is restrictively regular, this structure emphasises the idea that
time is constantly progressing; reflecting the speaker s argument. Space is no longer inhabited by
images of movement and life like the rivers previously mentioned but instead: before us lie
/ Deserts of vast eternity (ll. 23 4). The desert has strong connotations with deathliness, an issue
that the speaker gruesomely develops upon and progresses within this section. The speaker implies
on lines 26 7 that the only exploration of the mistress s body that will be undertaken will be by the
worms that are decomposing her body if she remains in her coy state. This thought that her sexuality
should not be wasted is elaborated upon with a crude pun on line 29: And your quaint honor turn to
dust which, as the Norton Anthology of Poetry explains in the footnote, is a play on the Middle
English noun queynte which means female genitals. These images of

Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development Essay
When talking about human development, we are referring to the growth of humans in all aspects
throughout their life. In this essay, I will be discussing two types of human development.
Cognitive development, which is to do with the ability to think, remember and reason, and Social
development, which involves relationships and interactions in the world around the individual. I
will focus on how they relate to two significant experiences in my life and how these experiences
were critical to my development as a learner. I will do this by analysing these experiences through
Piaget s theory of cognitive developmentincluding key concepts of equilibration, adaptation and
former operation cognitive stage, and Bronfenbrenner s bioecological systems theory including key
concepts of the microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem.
Piaget s theory of cognitive development is the theory I will be using to analyse my first
significant experience. According to Piaget s theory of cognitive development, during childhood
and adolescence, a child constructs an understanding of their environment by organising
information into schemas, a schema is basically a group of ideas about an object or an experience.
If the individual comes across an inconsistency, or an object or an experience that is unfamiliar,
their cognitive balance is upset and they begin to seek cognitive balance, this process of seeking
balance is called equilibration. They achieve this equilibration through Adaptation, by either

Essay on Alexander The Great
Few historical figures stand out in the same degree as that of Alexander the Great. He was a
warrior by 16, a commander at age 18, and was crowned King of Macedon by the time he was 20
years old. He did things in his lifetime that others could only dream about. Alexander single
handedly changed the nature of the ancient world in just over a decade. There were many
attributes that made Alexander Great. He was a brilliant strategist and an inspired leader; he led

Alexander, noticing the horse was afraid of his own shadow, brought him into the sun and

the horse were companions throughout Alexander s journeys and conquests, and when the
horse died he named a city after him called Bocephia or Bucephala. Alexander s astonishing

Philip had many successes in his early years as King of Macedon, particularly because of his
speed and decisiveness of action in battle. Within three years of his accession to the throne at the
age of 24, Philip had unified Macedonia. Philip s defeat of the Greek allies at Chaeronea in 338

Macedonia secure militarily, Philip granted the conditions from which emerged a Macedonian

the same army Alexander led. The Macedonian army constantly had been a national army. The
state was, indeed, the army; its king declared absolutely by the soldiers in arms. By

The Divine Command Theory In The Book Of John
The divine command theory states that an action s status as morally good is equivalent to
whether it is commanded by God. I do not think executing a criminal would ever be considered
morally permissible according to the divine command theory. I think this because in the Book of
John, Chapter 8, a woman is found guilty of adultery and is brought before Jesus. Jesus said Let he
who is without sin cast the first stone . Jesus is not condemning the sinner, but calls the sinner to
change. Killing would not be commanded by God, even if the criminal committed murder, the
equivalent would not equal execution of the murderer.
Utilitarianism is a theory that states the locus of right and wrong solely on the outcomes of

Carol Ann Duffy Extract
The theme of relationships is presented in the selected extracts as complex and often far from
traditional. Carol Ann Duffy s view of love are conveyed as being unconventional, dismissing
the clichГ©s of love. Duffy uses an unconventional aspect of relationships in her poems, which
is expressed from a female or male s perspective that is brutally honest about relationships. Duffy
s views are bitter and somewhat negative due to her experiences with relationships which are
flawed and dysfunctional. Levy presents unconventional relationships in the extract where
Queenie decides that raising a mixed race baby in the 1940s is not pragmatic and will be very

Blindsight phenomenon suggests that the brain can sense the presence of an object without
actually seeing it. Blindsight is defined as those who are cortically blind (caused most often by
blood flow loss to the occipital cortex, where we process our conscious visuals) due to lesions in
their striate cortex, or V1, having the ability to respond to visual stimuli that is not consciously

her charm (97). Anna has not yet strayed from her marriage, but apparently the mere thought of it is
enough to transform her from loving and attentive to cruel and heartless.
Naturally, Anna and Vronsky begin to have an affair, which Alexis Karenin, Anna s husband,
discovers. Our lives are bound together not by men but by God. This bond can only be broken
by a crime, and that kind of crime brings its punishment, he warns her (173), in an allusion back
to the novel s epigraph and a foreshadowing of Anna s eventual fate. They agree to live together
as though nothing were wrong in order to keep up appearances, but after a time Anna demands
divorce and Karenin consents on the grounds that Anna give up all rights to their son Serezha.
She cannot bring herself to do this, and they live as before for a time until Anna gives birth to a
daughter fathered by Vronsky. The birth is a difficult one, and Anna is convinced she will die in
labor. She does in fact live, but the doctor tells her she will never bear more children. Seemingly,
Tolstoy intends sterility to be Anna s punishment for having flouted societal norms.
Vronsky and Anna flee to Italy in an attempt to live a more normal life. After some time there, it
becomes quite apparent that the Anna we met at the beginning of the story is not the Anna we have
now.

Corruption In Victorian England
Appalled at the corruption of the English church in the late 16th and early 17th century, a group of
people known as separatists (or puritans) abandoned their mother country in search of a life in the
Americas in which they could practice their natural rights without the burden of fearing persecution.
While keeping to the general doctrines of the Christian faith, the puritans derived their individuality
from Calvinism, focusing on the concept of pre destination. After arriving in the MassachusettsBay
and establishing government, the puritan leader John Winthrop declared that their puritan society
would serve as a shining beacon for all to look to as a model of guidance, a city on a hill. This
belief that the puritan society was ordained

The Theme Of Death In Slaughterhouse Five And Death
Slaughterhouse Five and Death There s a recurring theme throughout Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt
Vonnegut which permeates throughout the story from beginning to end. It s the idea that death is
just that. Death. One can argue that Vonnegut attempts to desensitize death through the Billy
Pilgrim and the Sci Fi story of the Tralfamadorians, but what if he is instead using these examples
in order to justify the exact opposite idea? By planting us into Billy Pilgrim s surreal and insane
story filled with destruction and soulless human action, it may on surface seem as if he is regarding
death as a meaningless construct, but what if he is instead trying to tell us that death should
actually be something regarded as monumental and crucial to the... Show more content on

The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the
novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is
something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows
anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking
simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase
is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader
into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely
placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of
champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70).
After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death,
Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the
consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a
life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like
overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. Over the
course of the novel, the reader becomes Billy Pilgrim, and adapts his fatalistic way of thinking.

Petri Dish Lab Report
General BiologyBryarra Tinoco
BIO102 Spring Semester 2015February 24, 2015
Introduction For this lab the experiment was to test how effective the antibiotic properties were in
four substances. The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the
substances had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared.
The part that would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent
variables would be the substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the
zone of inhibition which is what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this
experiment were the bacteria, the petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on

We measured the greatest diameter for each substance which told us the zone of inhibition. To
measure each we used a ruler and measured the diameters in millimeters. After recording each zone
of inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates.
After comparing the results we then copied all the data onto a table and calculated the mean for
each substance plus the control. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of
difference and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph
that illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances.
Results
In order to compare the difference of each substance we had to calculate the percent of
difference for each substance. The control vs the P 10 was calculated to be 65% which was the
lowest percent. The next substance which was not as high was the TE 30, when compared to the
control it was 123%. One substance that was higher was S 10, when it was compared to the
control it was calculated to be 145%. The biggest difference was C 30, when this substance was
compared to the control it was 239%.

Speech On Smoking
A Breath of Fresh Air
Even after people know what these substances can and will do to their body, people keep taking
it and in the process, they slowly destroy their bodies every day just so they can feel good for
some number of hours. Some of those people get so addicted they lose jobs, friends, homes and
even family smoking these toxic chemicals. The smoke you put in your lungs starts to break
down tissues there and other body parts and can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. I could go
all eternity without ever smoking or doing any drugs of any kind and never be bothered about it.
Even teens who get dared to smoke at a party can really destroy their bodies. The harmful toxins
break down their bodies and causes diseases for them later in their life. Smoking causes 90% of
deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from COPD, and around 17% deaths from heart
disease. Sadly, most people don t realize the damage just one cigaret can have on your body.
Every drag you take on the cigaret raises you blood pressure and heart rate. Teenagers that smoke
at the age of 15 are three times more likely to die from cancer than someone who starts smoking
in their mid 20s. For this reason, smoking as a teen can permanently damage your body and
smoking can even kill young adults or give them intense diseases later on in their life.
If you have ever seen a long term smoker before and after their years of smoking, you ve seen first
hand the damage they do to the outside of

Biological Factors of Human Relationships
Biological factors are something that contributes hugely to the formation and maintenance of
relationships whether it is romantic, friendly or family related. Many researchers have conducted
studies in which they have attempted to try and explain the link between biological factors and
human relationships. I am going to specifically focus on Bowlby s study on the role of hormones
in bonding, Buss study on women jealousy and its relation to estrogen levels, Fishers study on the
brain and its role in romantic relationships, and Marazziti who studied the effect of serotonin on love
obsession. These studies will help me show the role that biological factors have in human
relationships in both the development and maintenance of them.... Show more content on

The development of a relationship from the first and early stages of love to the more developed
stages, couples tend to move from the passionate love to the more intimate relationship of
relaxation, dependency, and security which all play into attachment. In 1969 Bowlby suggested,
Humans have an innate attachment system which consists of specific behaviours and psychological
responses called attachment behaviours. For his experiment it mainly was conducted for research
on mother child relationships however many believe that the results are relatable to both mother
child and romantic relationships. According to more modern research, it has been shown that both
oxytocin a powerful hormone which is released in men and women during touching and sex which
helps to deepen and intensify the feelings of the select attachment and vasopressin a hormone
released also during sex help in increasing the bond that is between two lovers. Through this it
helps the couples to feel closer and more bonded. One of the main criticisms of this experiment was
the complexity of the researched relationships and how since they didn t consider other factors that
might affect the results, therefore resulting in the possibility that it could be unreliable. However if
looking at just this one aspect, this biological factor can be considered to have an influence on
human relationships both mother child and

Introduction
This research was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of a perioperative safety checklist on
perioperative safety standards and the quality of inter professional cooperation from the staff s
perspective. A 19 item questionnaire was used to survey employees attitudes regarding safety
relevant aspects of the perioperative period, work processes, and quality of inter professional
cooperation before and 3 months after the implementation of a Surgical Safety Checklist .
The results of this study showed that after the introduction of the checklist, the criteria for

This section makes it very clear that the purpose of this article is to evaluate perioperative safety
standards and the quality of inter professional cooperation before and after the implementation of a
safety checklist.
Abstract
The abstract clearly and effectively summarizes the research report. It was logically organized into a
background, methods, results, and conclusion section and was very useful in helping me decide
whether or not this article would be useful in answering my clinical question. This section clearly
identifies that the population being studied is the operating room staff which is relevant to my
research question.
Introduction (including literature review/use of previous research)
The report does include an introduction section although it is not clearly identified with a bold
heading. I do think that this section discusses aspects of my clinical question. This section clearly
states the relevance of the research question and its importance in nursing. The majority of the
literature cited is current relative to the publication date of the article and contributes to the
understanding of the research question.
This section presents the idea that the implementation of the Surgical Safety Checklist , which was
promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), caused a significant decline in the occurrence

  • 2. Professionalism Is Defined As Work Place Behaviors To remain productive and successful in the workplace, an individual must maintain a superior level of professionalism. Professionalism is defined as work place behaviors that result in positive business relationships. In the How Do You Rate assessments, all of my results showed a clear understanding in business etiquette. To put in my own words what professionalism means to me, it is your ability to demonstrate yourself in an appropriate, responsible, goaldetermined manner, while working respectively and alongside your business community. Your professionalism is presented by you and interpreted by others. The projections you portray to others can increase /decrease the value of your input in the workplace. I have developed an action plan that will guide myself to achieve the highest professionalism possible. I decided to call my brother up to ask his input on professionalism. Jason is a graduate from Georgetown University with a finance major. He is currently working for a commercial real estate finance company in Washington D.C. and is blessed with a great job and great opportunities . I asked him how he defines professionalism, and he answered, Professionalism is who you are within the company, and how your values are perceived by others. I told him about my paper and he mentioned to speak on the proper attitude to have, the appearance to show, the communication skills to have, and the motivation to achieve your goals. The first step in the direction of professionalism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is Conspiracy Theory Wrong On September 11, 2001 four planes were taken over and two flew into the twin towers while one crashed into the Pentagon, the other decenegrated in a field. Could this all have been made up and bombs were the reason the towers fell? Some people don t think so, and they argue against the fact of conspiracy theories. A conspiracy theoryis a theory about an event that happened do to a plot by a covert group. Whether this is the government or pilots we have multiple conspiracy theories out there. While many government officials believe it is hurting the government s reputation, other ex government officials want to get the word out that they are so very real. Not evening considering the possibility of a conspiracy theory is wrong, there needs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Jan Willem van Prooijen, I propose that these psychological processes are characterized by the joint influence of at least two complementary factors, namely subjective uncertainty, and a social concern for others (Prooijen para 4). Later on he stated it was from a social hierarchy(actors, media stars, and political leaders) in which we believe in. Based on Prooijens proposal I agree to a point with the process. I first gained my knowledge of conspiracy theories from a well known Youtuber, Shane Dawson. Once I was introduced, I fell in love them these ideas. Taken from a non believer standpoint, I can understand how they agree with what their eyes have seen and what political leaders tell them. It is also very difficult to wrap your head around something you have known for many years to come out a different way. It is very hard to understand why a flight carrying 239 people can suddenly vanish without a trace with nothing left behind or the how the government restricts us from a highly private area, area 51, and won t explain the means behind it. Or while we have thought for multiple years that we had someone step on the moon when now we easily think it could have been faked out. • 4. Ketamine Essay Introduction Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time of action. Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant effects of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal ideations (9 12). Despite a successful ... At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) (24, 25). Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on hyperforin which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound extracted from Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and hyperforin attenuated symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both extract and hyperforin displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28). From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on ligand gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+, K+, and Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane, hyperforin can increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and probably involved a few different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies increased the Ca2+ intracellular level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). As has been previously shown hyperforin activates intracellular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is one of the most controversial topics in American history, and even now it still continues to be debated. With over three million deaths from the war, was it really worth it? From the abominable outcome of this war, it is highly favorable that United States Troops should not have been deployed to Vietnamdue segregation it caused within the American country and resulting over 58,000 American deaths. As complex as this war may seem, this disputable conflict started earlier in spite of what others might imagine. Vietnam is a southeastern Asian country that has been occupied by the French since the early 19th Century. During War War II Japanese forces invaded Vietnam. In order for the native Vietnamese to fight off both the French Colonial Administration and the invading Japanese, political leader Ho Chi Minh inspired by Soviet Communism, established the League of Independence of Vietnam. After Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the Japanese withdrew their forces from Vietnam. The French educated Emperor Bao Dai was now back in control of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh saw this as an opportunity to finally gain control and almost immediately took control of the northern city of Hanoi. Ho Chin Minh declared himself as president. In hopes to regain control of Hanoi, France backed Emperor Bao and created the state of Vietnam in 1949. Although both sides wanted the same goal of uniting Vietnam, their government views were drastically different. Ho and his followers wanted the nation to be modeled after other communist countries. While Bao and his followers wanted their country to be in close ties with democratic countries in the west. These causes led to a civil war for the sole control of Vietnam. The Vietnam War and active United States involvement in the war began in 1954, although the ongoing conflict in the region had stretched back several decades. It wasn t until 1965 that President Johnson, with the support of the general public, decided to deploy US combat forces to battle in Vietnam. Eventually, 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and soon military leaders were calling for 175,000 more men by the end of 1965 to help aid the struggling South Vietnamese army. • 6. Tea Cake In The Great Gatsby Many people believe that a person s name is just as important as who that person is on the inside regarding the kind of personality traits they possess. Tea cakes from Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God; Blanche DuBois in Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire; and Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby all had great significance amongst their names which helped to unveiled the truth behind who they were. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Tea Cake has a name with more positive associations. When Janie first hears his name, she says, Tea Cake! So you sweet as all dat? The answer is yes, he is sweet. Tea Cake values Janie s personality and company, which is why he wants to be near her and have her work beside him. Tea Cake also feels a strong duty and obligation toward his wife such as to provide for her material things, protect her from dangers, etc. Another characteristic that shows he s a sweet person is his willingness to both talk and listen. Oh, I ve been in several things, he corrected himself, I was in the drug business and then I was in the oil business. But I m not in either now. (90) He changes his name the very moment he sees his first opportunity to make money: helping a man called Dan Cody to smuggle alcohol into American from Canada when he was 17 years old. Although he never openly admits he was in illegal business, we can assume from the story that he had gained his power and wealth through criminal behavior suggested by his name. Japanese Silk Factories Dbq Essay Americans work an average of 34.4 hours a week, longer than their counterparts in the world s largest economies ; but that amount of hours would ve meant paradise for mill workers in England and Japan during the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution developed in England during the 1700 s and in the late 1800 s, it moved to Japan. With the need for more textile production at the mills, women and children began to get employed. Nevertheless, the female Japanese and English mill workers had the same job and their experiences were quite similar. In addition, Edwin Hopwood, A History of the Lancashire Cotton Industry and the Amalgamated Weaver s Association, also researched women s lives after being factory workers. • 8. Themes In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner The Rime of the Ancient Mariner tells a peculiar tale about a mariner and his 200 crewmate who started a voyage to the equator. Alone, alone, all, all alone, Alone on a wide sea! And never a saint took pity on My soul in agony. This quote relates to the Ancient Mariner when he was isolated on the ocean while his crew was laying dead on the ship. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is a collection of Lyrical Ballads that tells a story of a mariner and his crew who went on a journey but ended getting forced to change their destination by a strong storm. They became isolated and trapped without a way out until an Albatrosscame and a path was opened for them. As the story progresses the Ancient Mariner and his crew committed a crime against nature when the Ancient mariner killed the Albatrossthe bird of good omen and his crew justified his action. As a result of their actions, the Ancient Mariner and his crew were faced with an unprecedented consequence. Nature will seek vengeance against the Ancient Mariner and his crew for killing the Albatross. The Ancient mariner and his crew faced the consequences of their crime which left the Ancient Mariner in a life in death state and his crewmate dead. Three themes present in the poem was isolation and crime against nature and redemption. This theme is connected with the absurdity of human condition, which sprouts from the deficiency of communication. In the play, characters believe that nothing in the exterior universe deserves living for. 12 Plot: In Endgame, there is a type of cyclical plot development. Although the play encompasses one act, a cyclical plot is introduced as well. There is no repetition in the play to be actually conveyed, but a few repetitions that shapes and forms from what characters can say about themselves. 13 Langauge: Throughout the play, certain words are reduplicated in the dialogues between Hamm and Clov. • 10. Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to applicants during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems designed, in some cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the applicant from interview to orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207) Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true intentions of employers had to be exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their actual pay. It reveals how unfair it is for applicants. It felt as though the author was suddenly stopped... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using whisking , it implies that the applicants were rushed into orientation. Both belong in one whole mixture so they are rapidly whipped together to make one. The goal for both scenarios is to have a finished product without any complications. Money is often a problem that arises during the hiring process so the employers hustle to avoid this complication. I am sure a lot of us are excited and lets be honest our superhero movies do bring the money. I just want to point out a couple of things so that we can have a smooth weekend and leave with good money in our pockets. 1. Communication; we have definitely improved a lot on this, teams that communicate make money, but not only communicate with your team mates, don t forget about the runners they can do simple stuff like run a sauce or a refill on fly, and also if you need a manager please know your zone managers, and call them, of course if they are busy i am sure another manager/supervisor will be able to assist you.... Pre Authorization; yes i know most of the handhelds don t do it, all of the iPads can swipe cards so take advantage of that we all know how awesome it feels to have almost an entire theater cc d. Team leaders make sure you remind your team members about pre authorizing cards. 3. Pre buzzing; yes i know we talk about this in every preshift, suicide squad is a 2hr plus movie there will be plenty of time to do some clean up for the guest, we all know the benefits of doing this i am sure i don t have to type it out. i know the first 30 40 mins into the movie will be chaotic but try to keep the landings clear, remove drink holders and trays. Theaters 1,2,5,8,9 try and use the landings on the other side of the exit door, so that we don t crowd the front with food and drinks. 4. 9 steps of service, very important to fallow as much as we can the steps this weekend. The reason that the government surrendered was because that the army was very small and weak compared to the Germans. There are thirty two characters in this novel, but I will name of the ones that sound the most important to me: Niels Skov, Jorgen Kieler, Thomas Sneum. These people spied and sabotage the Nazis in order to save their country. Niels Skov was just an apprentice toolmaker that want to save his country. • 15. The Contributions Of John Stuart Mill John Stuart Mill was a British philosopher who was born on May 20, 1806 in London, England, to Harriet Burrow and James Mill, a noted economist, philosopher and historian. James Mill was an educated man who was heavily involved in an early 19th century movement called philosophic radicalism, a school of thought also known as Utilitarianism, which highlighted the demand for a scientific foundation for philosophy, as well as a humanist approach to economics politics. It was this foundation from which James Millurged and advanced his eldest son s education from a very early age. John Stuart studied Greek at age three and Latin at eight, and he was asked to recite everything he had learned to his father every day. John Stuart also studied mathematics and science for his personal enjoyment and would engage in long discussions with his father about histories and biographies that he had read. It is interesting to note that John Stuart was also empowered with the responsible for educating his eight younger siblings. His childhood comprised of a strict environment of learning, teachings and tutoring, however, John Stuart felt that he was emotionally compromised by his father s educational plan. Although John Stuart never actually attended university, by the age of twenty, he essentially had a postgraduate self education in logic, political economy and law. • 16. Annotated Bibliography On Artificial Intelligence Annotated Bibliography (Draft) Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years, and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of technology . Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss, and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds. For those who do not know, artificial intelligence is exactly what is called, an intelligence through a computer that is artificially created by humans. A.I. is defined to be able to learn and use the information it learns to produce thoughts of its own, almost as if it were a thinking human. Though many may believe A.I. is just a robot which is able to speak and understand humans, it is much more than that. A.I. technologies are being implemented in smartphones, homes, cars, watches, headphones, and is also being developed to work in many more ways that help give humanity an easier life. My background knowledge is somewhat fair. During my senior year of high school I did a science research on the project, and it showed me little of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Corruption In I Claudius I, Claudius is a fictional autobiography written in the voice of the fourth Roman Emperor, Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus Claudius for short. The story recounts the period of the founding of the Roman Empire to the coronation of Claudius himself; but, as seen from the perspective of Claudius an adamant republican the Roman Empireis one that is doomed to fall, prophesied by the Sibyl of Cumae, due to political instability and dangerous power struggles. Similar to the Roman Empire of I, Claudius, the Britain of King Lear also falls into a state of political chaos akin to anarchy; the sudden abdication of Lear and his senility ultimately bring about the unravelling of his family, followers, and kingdom. The following power struggles in Rome and Britain lead to the corruption of many individuals in their respective time periods. Both I, Claudius by Robert Graves and King Lear by William Shakespeare, set during times of political turbulence, suggest that the competition for and possession of power can corrupt and alter individuals and society. Both works are set in times of political turbulence, times in which people would seize the opportunity to gain absolute power or at least an upper hand over others. In I, Claudius, Livia, Claudius grandmother, proves to be an incredibly ambitious woman, with the political acumen to match. Effectiveness And Social Implications Of Privats significantly conflicting perceptions regarding the interpretation of general facts, attitudes towards each sector, and effectiveness and social implications of DOTS. The study suggested that such differences might result in mistrust, differing views on reform propositions, conflicting mind sets about social agendas, and unwillingness to collaborate [5]. Similarly, Slave et al.(2016) found that PPs had contrasting perceptions about the different components of the TB programme such as the feasibility of DOT[6]. Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3]. Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather limited flexibility in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of checks and balances [2]. Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have pinpointed the importance of communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP, NGOs, PPs and other providers. In Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB centre recognised the need for regular contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However, despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular basis, these interactions were inherently unequal and ambivalent. • 22. The Simpsons Television Show as a Pop Culture Icon Essay The definition of the typical American family has changed considerably over time. Ever since the age of television dawned on American culture, situation comedies have tried to portray the typical American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950 s, there was Leave It to Beaver which represented a generic view of the American family during its time. There was a father whose responsibility was to financially support the family and be a role model for his children. There was a mother whose job was that of a typical housewife, taking care of the home and caring for the children. The show was all but ignored by the older viewing public, who discounted it as a trashy cartoon. The consumption (Delingpole) of the program and its messages by the American public when the show first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the show intended. On face value alone, The Simpsons is not much more than a cartoon about a middle class family and their ridiculous escapades. But when examined more closely and with a more objective eye ? consumed as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that The Simpsons is truly a comment on American society. The Simpsons basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. It depicts a young Elizabeth who finds solace and is accepted by her peers because she takes part in intimidating her schoolmate Celia. Unlike them, she goes too far, physically assaults the girl and, unknowingly, digs a hole into a world of suffering and despair. Using various repeating motifs and a similar characterization of the two characters, Huggan demonstrates that those who purposefully do wrong to others will eventually also suffer themselves. The fire was spreading faster and heading toward the direction of the firefighters. Dodge, in a moment of insight, had an escape plan; he stopped running, igniting the ground in front of him with a match, drenched his hanker chef with water, and laid down on the smoldering embers, as the fire past him. His quick decision is a mere example which psychologist and neuroscientists use to determine the insight experience. Mark Jung Beeman, a cognitive neuroscientist at Northwestern University, has spent fifteen years trying to figure out what happens inside the brain when people have an insight.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing so, he conducted experimental word puzzles to see if it could be solved by insight or by analysis. He teamed up with John Kounios, a neuroscientist at Drexel University, who both share the same interest in insight. With both their ideas, they combined EEG and fMRI testings to scan people s brain while they solved the puzzles to see if it can construct a precise map, both in time and space, of the insight process. The resulting studies, published in 2004 and 2006, found that people who solved puzzles with insight were using a portion of the cortical areas. According to Jung Beeman and Kounios, a small fold of tissue on the surface of the right hemisphere, the anterior superior temporal gyrus (aSTG) becomes active first before insight occurs. Once the brain is focused on the problem, the cortex needs to relax, in order for the right hemisphere to provide insight. Andrew Marvell, “to His Coy Mistress” Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress In To His Coy Mistress the speaker carefully constructs a subtle and logical argument as to why his addressee should sexually unite with him. The speaker attempts this proposition through finesse in manipulating reason, form and imagery. The reasoning employed would be familiar to a reader educated in Renaissance England, as it is reminiscent of classical philosophical logic, entailing a statement, a counter statement and a resolution. In line with this method Marvell s speaker codes his argument in classical imagery. The next section runs from lines 21 to 32, here the speaker moves away from the hypothetical to reality but retains the melodramatic language used in the previous section to sustain the tenacity of his points. Time here is portrayed as chasing the speaker as opposed to being something the speaker is in control of as in the end of the last section. This is done using the image of a winged chariot (l.22), this has classical associations with Greek mythology which relates to his form of argument. The meter of the poem is restrictively regular, this structure emphasises the idea that time is constantly progressing; reflecting the speaker s argument. Space is no longer inhabited by images of movement and life like the rivers previously mentioned but instead: before us lie / Deserts of vast eternity (ll. 23 4). The desert has strong connotations with deathliness, an issue that the speaker gruesomely develops upon and progresses within this section. The speaker implies on lines 26 7 that the only exploration of the mistress s body that will be undertaken will be by the worms that are decomposing her body if she remains in her coy state. This thought that her sexuality should not be wasted is elaborated upon with a crude pun on line 29: And your quaint honor turn to dust which, as the Norton Anthology of Poetry explains in the footnote, is a play on the Middle English noun queynte which means female genitals. In this essay, I will be discussing two types of human development. Cognitive development, which is to do with the ability to think, remember and reason, and Social development, which involves relationships and interactions in the world around the individual. Piaget s theory of cognitive development is the theory I will be using to analyse my first significant experience. • 38. Lessons Learned In My Writing I have learned that in order to write a good, meaningful essay I have to always be prepared so I can never be caught off guard with my writing. I learned that organization is always helpful when it comes to writing. Mark Twain said, Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words. One has to first write and then see the errors, so they can fix them and end up with the best piece of work. I learned that making a list of things I know about my topic before writing my essayis going to help me out with the structure and facts in my writing. Donald Barthelme said Writing is a process of not knowing, a forcing of what and how. And I would have to disagree with him. Like I said, making a list first and getting some facts about the... Desire to seem clever, to be talked about, to be remembered after death, to get your own back on the grown ups who snubbed you in childhood, etc., etc. Readers not always get the humor and sarcasm that some authors include in their writing but that s what makes the readers wonder if the author is really being serious or not. Sarcasm makes the readers come back and wanting more. Now that I learned all this new techniques, I can use them on my writing and hope for the best. Now I know I should write the list of things I know about my topic before writing my essay only after my sugar daddy is done telling me one of his stories about the party he once went with Hugh Hefner, and not write the list the thing I know while he is telling me his story and I m not paying attention to him. Turns out old men can be really sensitive. Now I know I should write the outline of my story before my medical procedure is done and not after. • 39. Tolstoy s Perspective on Women s Rights as Depicted in... Vengeance is mine; I will repay, states the darkly foretelling epigraph of Leo Tolstoy s famous novel Anna Karenina. Throughout the work, the author seems torn between feminist and misogynist sympathies, leading one to wonder if the above quote is directed at the adulterous Anna the only character in the novelwho pays for her transgressions with her life. At first, Tolstoy seems to sympathize with Anna, contrasting her situation with that of her brother Stiva, who has also committed adultery but received no social chastisement. But by the end of the novel it s almost as though the author feels he has allowed Anna to get away with too much, and must teach the reader a lesson about such behavior from a woman. Anna s last mention in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything about her was enchanting, muses Kitty, but there was something terrible and cruel in her charm (97). Anna has not yet strayed from her marriage, but apparently the mere thought of it is enough to transform her from loving and attentive to cruel and heartless. Naturally, Anna and Vronsky begin to have an affair, which Alexis Karenin, Anna s husband, discovers. Our lives are bound together not by men but by God. This bond can only be broken by a crime, and that kind of crime brings its punishment, he warns her (173), in an allusion back to the novel s epigraph and a foreshadowing of Anna s eventual fate. They agree to live together as though nothing were wrong in order to keep up appearances, but after a time Anna demands divorce and Karenin consents on the grounds that Anna give up all rights to their son Serezha. She cannot bring herself to do this, and they live as before for a time until Anna gives birth to a daughter fathered by Vronsky. The birth is a difficult one, and Anna is convinced she will die in labor. She does in fact live, but the doctor tells her she will never bear more children. Seemingly, Tolstoy intends sterility to be Anna s punishment for having flouted societal norms. Vronsky and Anna flee to Italy in an attempt to live a more normal life. After some time there, it becomes quite apparent that the Anna we met at the beginning of the story is not the Anna we have now. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corruption In Victorian England Appalled at the corruption of the English church in the late 16th and early 17th century, a group of people known as separatists (or puritans) abandoned their mother country in search of a life in the Americas in which they could practice their natural rights without the burden of fearing persecution. While keeping to the general doctrines of the Christian faith, the puritans derived their individuality from Calvinism, focusing on the concept of pre destination. • 42. The Theme Of Death In Slaughterhouse Five And Death Slaughterhouse Five and Death There s a recurring theme throughout Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut which permeates throughout the story from beginning to end. It s the idea that death is just that. Death. One can argue that Vonnegut attempts to desensitize death through the Billy Pilgrim and the Sci Fi story of the Tralfamadorians, but what if he is instead using these examples in order to justify the exact opposite idea? By planting us into Billy Pilgrim s surreal and insane story filled with destruction and soulless human action, it may on surface seem as if he is regarding death as a meaningless construct, but what if he is instead trying to tell us that death should actually be something regarded as monumental and crucial to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70). After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death, Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. Over the course of the novel, the reader becomes Billy Pilgrim, and adapts his fatalistic way of thinking. Though this may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Petri Dish Lab Report General BiologyBryarra Tinoco BIO102 Spring Semester 2015February 24, 2015 Introduction For this lab the experiment was to test how effective the antibiotic properties were in four substances. The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the substances had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared. The part that would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent variables would be the substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the zone of inhibition which is what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this experiment were the bacteria, the petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We measured the greatest diameter for each substance which told us the zone of inhibition. To measure each we used a ruler and measured the diameters in millimeters. After recording each zone of inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates. After comparing the results we then copied all the data onto a table and calculated the mean for each substance plus the control. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of difference and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph that illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances. Results In order to compare the difference of each substance we had to calculate the percent of difference for each substance. The control vs the P 10 was calculated to be 65% which was the lowest percent. The next substance which was not as high was the TE 30, when compared to the control it was 123%. One substance that was higher was S 10, when it was compared to the control it was calculated to be 145%. The biggest difference was C 30, when this substance was compared to the control it was 239%. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speech On Smoking A Breath of Fresh Air Even after people know what these substances can and will do to their body, people keep taking it and in the process, they slowly destroy their bodies every day just so they can feel good for some number of hours. Some of those people get so addicted they lose jobs, friends, homes and even family smoking these toxic chemicals. The smoke you put in your lungs starts to break down tissues there and other body parts and can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. I could go all eternity without ever smoking or doing any drugs of any kind and never be bothered about it. Even teens who get dared to smoke at a party can really destroy their bodies. The harmful toxins break down their bodies and causes diseases for them later in their life. Smoking causes 90% of deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from COPD, and around 17% deaths from heart disease. Sadly, most people don t realize the damage just one cigaret can have on your body. Every drag you take on the cigaret raises you blood pressure and heart rate. Teenagers that smoke at the age of 15 are three times more likely to die from cancer than someone who starts smoking in their mid 20s. For this reason, smoking as a teen can permanently damage your body and smoking can even kill young adults or give them intense diseases later on in their life. Biological Factors of Human Relationships Biological factors are something that contributes hugely to the formation and maintenance of relationships whether it is romantic, friendly or family related. Many researchers have conducted studies in which they have attempted to try and explain the link between biological factors and human relationships. I am going to specifically focus on Bowlby s study on the role of hormones in bonding, Buss study on women jealousy and its relation to estrogen levels, Fishers study on the brain and its role in romantic relationships, and Marazziti who studied the effect of serotonin on love obsession. These studies will help me show the role that biological factors have in human relationships in both the development and maintenance of them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of a relationship from the first and early stages of love to the more developed stages, couples tend to move from the passionate love to the more intimate relationship of relaxation, dependency, and security which all play into attachment. In 1969 Bowlby suggested, Humans have an innate attachment system which consists of specific behaviours and psychological responses called attachment behaviours. For his experiment it mainly was conducted for research on mother child relationships however many believe that the results are relatable to both mother child and romantic relationships. According to more modern research, it has been shown that both oxytocin a powerful hormone which is released in men and women during touching and sex which helps to deepen and intensify the feelings of the select attachment and vasopressin a hormone released also during sex help in increasing the bond that is between two lovers. Through this it helps the couples to feel closer and more bonded. One of the main criticisms of this experiment was the complexity of the researched relationships and how since they didn t consider other factors that might affect the results, therefore resulting in the possibility that it could be unreliable. However if looking at just this one aspect, this biological factor can be considered to have an influence on human relationships both mother child and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
