A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human...
I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect
human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a
documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that
records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and
adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in
1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first,
a documentary was known as a humandocument because it had emotional ties to the information
though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not
every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two
different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the
world of documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about
a bigger war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more
emotion (Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any
bias? All this information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary
on tattoos. I personally have tattoos and plan on obtaining more so the challenge here is to take
information attained and record it without any of my own

Ron Williamson, The Innocent Man Essay
The relationship between law enforcement and prosecutors, which goes hand in hand, can t be
overlooked. Evidence of a crime that detectives and law enforcement discover is as equally
important as a good trial on part of the prosecution. If detectives aren t able to find good solid
evidence that case usually isn t bothered in being pursued. Several years ago, in the late 80 s, there
was a murder case in Southeastern Oklahoma which now serves as a tragic example to the need for
honest, constitutional work in the criminal justice system. Disreputable investigative procedures,
fraudulent sources, and bad evidence were the foundation of this case that shattered innocent lives.
I wanted to look at the investigative and criminal procedures... Show more content on

After a small talk Debbie convinced Gina that she need to come over anymore and that she was
fine. Early the next morning of December 8th, the lifeless body of Debbie Carter was found
strangled in her small apartment. The murder of Debbie Carter flipped this small, rural, bible
belt, town on its head. People were outraged, overwhelmed, and stunned that such a thing could
happen in this town to a young, beautiful girl whom everyone had known. This gruesome act put
enormous pressure on local law enforcement to find the atrocious criminal. Finger prints, hair,
and blood spatter was carefully collected from the scene. Over the next few days dozens of
people who had seen Debbie the night of her murder went to the station where they were
interviewed, gave blood and hair samples. The investigation seemed promising, but months later
leads began drying out and detectives found themselves back at square one. Ada was notorious for
the ability to find snitches behind bars that could provide crucial evidence to the District Attorney
in return for reduced charges or lighter sentencing. According to a study conducted by the U.S.
Sentencing Commission, one out of every five federal defendants receives sentencing reduction

happened to be a jail house snitch in Ada who needed to strike a plea deal before trial for what
would be her third felony conviction. Over three years of

Types Of Operating Conditions Of Start Ups
4.3.2 Environment
After examining the types of operating conditions of start ups, this part will talk about how
environmental factors affecting other three categories. Both start ups and incumbents have to face
the challenges in terms of environmental factors. Comparing with start ups, incumbents have more
experience and resources to deal with the uncertainty about changing environment. Under the
environmental category, there are two subcategories including market and political aspect.
Market trend. There are many factors of market would influence other three categories. First is the
market trend which implies the potential industries or markets in the future. The market trends have
great impacts on decision making process of investors. All investors are seeking for higher
potential start ups with lower failure rate. They believe that start ups which are following trends
would have lower risk and higher growth potential. Three of investors suggested:
Our investment depends on the market trend. For example, we used to pay attention on entertaining
start ups. Later on we identified the opportunities of B2B start ups, then we turn the sights towards
B2B firms. Market comes in waves, and we move according to the market trend.
The primary consideration is the potential of industry....Since more Chinese people are concerned
about their health issues, we predict that sports and health industries would have great growing
potential in the future. Also, we thought second hand

Determinants of Fdi in Saudi Arabia
FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN SAUDI ARABIA AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in stimulating the growth potentials and
providing stability to the economy of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show that there are mainly four
factors which determine the net FDI flow to Saudi Arabia. These are GDP, Privatization, Import
and Export and Growth rate of GDP. There exists a positive relationship between FDI and GDP
and GDP growth rate while it is negatively related to privatisation and imports plus exports taken ...

2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997)
suggest that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during
the transition period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in
developing economies is positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion
(Balasubramanyam et al., 1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with
relatively liberal trade regimes and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions
with wider supra national free trade arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and
panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the
impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output growth in the recipient economy supporting the
FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000); Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek
(2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on GDP growth. They all used FDI
measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long run relationship between
economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for imports,

Walt Disney s Maternal Archetypes
An archetype by definition is, an original model or pattern from which other later copies are
made, especially a character ( Literary Terms and Definitions A. ) I based myself on recurring
images which include animals and the passing of the maternal symbol. Walt Disney was the first
to combine both recurring images to portray the importance of the maternal archetype. He did so
on widely known animated films in the United States. Walt Disney, the creator of a plethora of
Disney films, was the first to establish a special relationship between the mother and the child of
commonly known animals. He did so on a notable amount of animated films. Disney uses emotion
as one of his strongest focal points. Through the use of emotion, the audience is able to relate to the
story. Walt Disney s skillful use of sentiment creates new ways of seeing the maternal archetype. He
uses symbolic animal archetypes and the aspect of an unstable family toWalt Disney further
develop the importance of the maternal archetype.

Meaning that a majority of them have lost their mother, or have felt abandoned by their mothers.
There are many theories as to why this phenomenon is happening. One talks about the development
of one s character one s you don t have someone to guide you:
One reason is practical because the movies are 80 or 90 minutes long, and Disney films are
about growing up. They re about that day in your life when you have to accept responsibility. In
shorthand, it s much quicker to have characters grow up when you bump off their parents, Don
offers. Bambi s mother gets killed, so he has to grow up. Belle only has a father, but he gets lost,
so she has to step into that position. It s a story shorthand. (Mullins,

The Trial Of God Book Analysis
In the book The trial of god by Elie Wiesel and the movie God on Trial directed by Andy de
Emmony, there are many similarities and differences throughout the film and the Novel. Both
the author and director capture the points of their stories. The settings of both stories are
emotional. Trial of god by Elie Wiesel it takes place right after a pogrom. They perform a play
putting god on trial and accused him of staying in silence while they faced evil. God on Trial
directed by Andy de Emmony is about a legend that a group of concentration camp prisoners gave
a trial convicting God for letting his people get killed. The compare and contrast aspects will be
theme, setting, and situational irony. It will be discussed on how both stories... Show more content

In the movie, God on Trial there was a rabbi named Akiba, performed by Antony Sher with the
other men in the concentration camp. Rabbis are Jewish religious leaders that are always looked
at for guidance. In the movie the rabbi was said to be one of the thirty six rabbis. The character
Idek states, He is the rabbi of Zamkevitz. Melamed and is a healer... They say that he is one of
the thirty six... the lamed vovnik. The secret saints who are carrying us on their shoulders. They
have set their souls on God, and for their sake He does not destroy us. (God on Trial, Dir. Andy
de Emmony. Per. Blake Ritson.) In other words, Melamed is a term in biblical times denoted a
religious leader or teacher. In Jewish terms the thirty six means life. This brought some hope and
light to some of the men in the bunker. Right before the judges were going to give the verdict,
the rabbi gave a speech. He complicates the matter further when he says, When David defeated
the Moabites, what did he do? He made them lie on the ground in lines, and he chose one to live
and two to die. We are become the Moabites. We are learning how it was for the Amalekites.
They faced extinction at the hands of Adonai. They died for his purpose. They fell as we were
falling. They were afraid as we were afraid. And what did they learn? They learned... that Adonai,
the Lord our God... is not good. He is not good. (God on Trial, Dir. Andy de Emmony. Per. Antony

Analysis Of On Truth
Today s political climate is a polarizing topic. Every form of media has an opinion on it from
major news outlets to adult animated sitcoms. Harry Frankfurt s book On Truth is relevant to the
political storm that is brewing in American society due to the manipulation of the truth by political
figures and mainstream media. Frankfurt approaches the importance of truth in a unique fashion
and vilifies lies and those who spread them. This directly relates to the election year and how the
truth is shrouded in mystery. The Daodejing and Socrates writings, while both important in
literature are not as pertinent to the charged political climate that is taking place in the United
States right now. For the first time in American history there has been mass protests across the
country due to the Republican nominated president elect Donald J. Trump. People from many
major cities went to the streets to say things like Not My President and Never Trump. It is safe to
say Trump s campaign has been riddled with controversy and has been criticized by both major
political parties. Trump s campaign is not the only one with problems. Democratic nominee Hillary
Clinton has been met with constant problems throughout her campaign she has been accused of
numerous corruption scandals. The American public is deeply divided and believes they had to
pick between the lesser of two evils. This is all a distortion of the truth. The media is turning into a
propaganda machine who reports biased

Vacation Gone Awry Essays
I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to
see a sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and
Lodging. By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word
resortled me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I alwayskept in the back of my mind was
what a Hawke family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we
could, and we would leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation.
My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat Springs for
Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. We started... Show more content on

My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite
frequently and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause
havoc later because he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy
if I looked at a magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked
once and burned out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option.
Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice.
When my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with
their sirens screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what
the commotion was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The
two police officers got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He
obviously had too much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my
dad was back in the van in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so
we were off to the next town.
The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining
town with nothing in it except for a so called resort. The lights of a sign that said, State Bridge
Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging were flickering as if they were going to burn out. My dad

Epiphanies in Joyce s Dubliners and Chaucer s Canterbury...
James Joyce s Dubliners is a compilation of stories that all rely on character epiphanies in order
to develop each story. These epiphanies change the tone of each story because each yields a
negative change or reaction. In both Araby and The Dead , the characters realize or learn
something about the world around them, which makes them second guess either themselves or the
reason behind their actions. Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales contains at least one tale that
relies on an epiphany to help develop theme but it doesn t change the tone or course of the story, it
just helps to portray the true meaning of the character. The Pardoner becomes a deeper character
because of his epiphany, which is what makes it important to the rest of... Show more content on

Another factor that could possibly have helped to cause the Pardoner s epiphany is the
pilgrimage, he feels the need to repent for all his hypocrisy and scams so his soul doesn t go a
blackberrying (pg 511, ll 78) when he dies. The Pardoner s epiphany doesn t change the course
or the tone of the tale in itself, because he continues to act the way he usually does in regards to
his relics and pardons. However, at the end of the tale the way he acts towards the travelers is just a
cover of how he is truly feeling.
The situation is different in Joyce s Dubliners. Each story involves an epiphany that causes the
character to have a negative outlook on life. It changes the tone of the story completely. For
example, in Araby a young boy has a negative experience at a bazaar, which alters his view of the
world. He just wanted to impress an older girl that he loved because she couldn t go to Araby at
all. He was so excited and mesmerized by the thought of the bazaar and possibly even winning
the girl s love, that even the syllables of the word Araby were called to me through the silence in
which my soul luxuriated and cast an Eastern enchantment over me (pg 17). However, the
atmosphere of Araby was the exact opposite of what the boy had been imagining because it wasn t
exotic at all. Plus, it was dark and empty because he arrived around

Shrek the movie and the short story Beauty and the Beast are both fairy tales particularly similar
in ways that bring the characters closer to reality. Beauty and the Beast written by Mme Le
Prince de Beaumont has a happily ever after fairy tale ending, whereas the movie Shrek directed

Beast continuously states that he is not a lord, but a beast (Beaumont 24). With that being said
he is not accepting of his real beauty. Beauty was terrified when she first laid eyes on the beast,
however she tried to conceal her fear. Beauty quickly thought that the beast, besides being very
powerful, was also very kind , which was the first sign of acceptance of the beastly monster
(Beaumont 24). Even though Beauty has quickly started to see past the beasts appearance, the
beast still considers himself to be ugly, stupid and a monster. In showing her acceptance, Beauty
lets the beast know you are very kind so kind that I almost forgot you are so ugly (Beaumont 26).
Beauty said It is better of the two to have the heart of a man and the form of a monster

was with her. The beast noticed Beauty s soft heart and he felt her fear for him eventually

As We Saw Previously, We Can Divide The Touristic Industry
As we saw previously, we can divide the touristic industry into two major categories, the modern day
massive tourism and ecotourism. Both forms have a distinctive history, definition, economic
benefits and environmental impact. Although both are growing at lightning speed, especially as our
societies become wealthier and eager to explore the world around them, the biggest dilemma lies on
which, ecotourism or tourism, is a better alternative to pursue to balance economic development and
environmental protection. To find the answer, we need to analyze and compare the main premises
about the two topics.
In regards to history, the idea of being a tourist has been around for centuries. As we saw
previously, humans have dreamed of traveling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In David Fennell s argument, we can t properly define tourism because we might leave a key
element economic activity out, especially if we understand that just in the category of attractions
we have museums, festivals, sports, cinemas, theme parks and others. The array of options in the
industry of tourism has made it one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. However,
its massive scope might not make tourism the best environmental alternative.
In the case of ecotourism s definition and scope, it is easier to understand its objective. In Martha
Honey s book, she introduced us to the seven characteristics of real ecotourism, which clearly limit
the definition to activities to natural destinations with an environmental educational purpose and
with the objective of benefiting financially local people and conservation areas. Based on that
definition, ecotourism is a better environmental alternative than regular tourism. However, its
limited scope and smaller scale programs place ecotourism at a disadvantage regarding financial
development.
In terms of economic benefits, the tourism industry has been growing at an unprecedented speed.
It ranks number third in exports category with 7% of the yearly totals. As an industry, it
represented 1.5 trillion dollars in 2015, with $1260 billion earned by the receipts in the same year.

Symbolism In The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
As the last crimson tint of the birthmark that sole token of human imperfection faded from her
cheek, the parting breath of the now perfect woman passed into the atmosphere, and her soul,

Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Birthmark, a tragic and unexpected short story. In the beginning of
The Birthmark, Alymer, a man of science, marries a young beautiful woman named Georgiana. One
day Alymer noticed a mark on Georgiana s cheek, and over time his obsession with the thought of

by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Alymer pushes the scientific boundaries too far and his experiment is

there were the Puritans, they believed that it was necessary to be in a covenant relationship with
God in order to redeem one from one s sinful condition, that God had chosen to reveal salvation

The Puritans also believed in predestination, which means God knew the future of the person the

It is imperative to acknowledge the seriousness on extramarital affairs because of the detrimental
effects they can have on both the guilty and injured individuals. Marriage is a life long

Pastor Johann Arnold states that: When we forgive someone for a mistake or a deliberate hurt,
we still recognize it as such, but instead of lashing out or biting back, we attempt to see beyond

Legal Pluralism And Normative Orders Essay
Introduction In this course we have been learning a lot on the topic of legal pluralism and
normative orders. The paragraphs below will illustrate legal pluralism by using the case of
Multani v. Commission Scolaire Marguerite Bourgeoys. First of all, we will begin with defining
what legal pluralism is then we will go more in depth into the case. We will be covering the
essential background of the case, the decisions of the courts and schoolboard with justification
and a short personal reflection on the subject. What is Legal Pluralism? According to Brian

focus is put on the description of practices, not on their evaluation. Moreover, this position is based
on the refusal of any ironic standpoint, i.e. the denial that social scientists occupy any kind of

enemies and proves to himself he was right about society. One of the sinners he sees on his journey
is Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and ended up committing suicide over his guilt. In comparison
to Judas, Adolf Hitler committed a similar crime;, he killed millions of innocent people for their
beliefs because he did not agree with them, betrayed his country, and committed suicide. Rosa
Parks, on the other hand, uses human reasoning like Virgil does in The Inferno. Rosa Parks uses
what she knows about how people tend to act and took necessary action to prove her point. By
comparing the judgments of Adolf Hitler and Rosa Parks to the judgment in Dante s Inferno, it
shows that the unfair treatment of the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality
over time has not changed, based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe
and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different
deserve to be treated unfairly.
The story of Adolf Hitler, 1889 1945, shows another example how the treatment of others the
minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed based on
how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and
that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly.
As a child, Hitler was a troublemaker his sister describes his personally saying: He was a
scrubby little rogue, Paula said of her brother, and all attempts of his father to thrash him for his
rudeness. . .were in vain (Rosenwald). But Adolf s mother, Klara, was always there to care for
him. His father Alois died in 1903 of heart failure, and Klara his mother became a single mother,
tolerating, seemingly without question, her unruly and headstrong son. But then Klara fell sick.,

Case Study Of Blockbuster
Introduction of Blockbuster
Blockbuster is the largest movie rental retailer. With its opening in 1985, Blockbuster has pursued
an ambiguous program of growth and expansion. Currently, Blockbuster owns and operates over
9,000 stores both domestically and internationally. In addition, Blockbuster franchises about a
quarter of its stores. It is important to note that Blockbuster is undergoing a managerial struggle at
the present time. The current CEO, John Antioco, and a major shareholder, Carl Icahn, are disputing
Blockbuster s strategy. Mr. Antioco has threatened to resign if Mr. Icahn succeeds at attaining a
position on the Board of Directors1. Mr. Antioco believes that Blockbuster needs to develop new
strategy to respond to the current market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could package soundtracks with movies to increase revenue, or sell and advertise popular
soundtracks at the front of the store to increase sales. Admittedly, there are only a few soundtracks
that gain mass popularity with consumers, and perhaps a very limited inventory of soundtracks for
sale could be advantageous.
Diversification: Developing new products in new markets can be a riskier strategy given the
unproven market place. However, if innovation is a business value it may be worth the risk as long
as you understand what s at stake.
Introduce Visa cards: Blockbuster should unveil Visa cards that earn the user credit toward video
rentals and music purchases. This would be a very creative idea and it would also help them to
cater the European and Asian markets.
Other products: Further expansion and success in the international market can be achieved by
introducing new books on audiotape and soft drinks should be sold at Blockbuster.
Venturing: Venture into other music businesses through a joint venture for example Virgin Records.

Blockbuster is a generally perceived name in the feature rental business sector, being the first move

Comparison Between Macbeth And Into The Wild
Wanting for dreams to come true don t do that themselves, it depends on what choices we do and

The Night Of The Living Dead
The true origins of zombies and the undead can likely be traced back to the stories men and women
first told around campfires. They certainly date back to the origins of written language in tales such
as the epic of Gilgamesh, and have taken on many different attributes through the generations. The
shambling creatures that were first displayed in the movie titled The Night of the Living Deadare
what many would consider today to be the typical representation of the modern zombiestory (Estes,
2012).
The zombies in the story Meathouse Man by George R. R. Martin do not follow this trend. They are
throwbacks to, and futuristic interpretations of, the Hattian zombie that is often acknowledged to
be the modern origin of today s zombie mythology.

The Role Of Blindness In Oedipus The King
The word blindness can be used thematically and literally; thematically being someone can be
ignorant or oblivious to see the truth or world around them, and in a literal sense it means that a
person is physically blind. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles the role of blindness literally and
thematically is used to show how the character Oedipus is oblivious to see the truth in his life is
like Donald Trump, America s forty fifth president, on his views of climate change. Donald
Trump is blinded by the fact that climate change is a real problem and in his mind the crazy
weather is just the weather itself acting up. The author, Sophocles, of the play Oedipus the King,
portrays the word blindness in two ironic ways. Though before the reader learns about this they
must understand the purpose of why Sophocles used blindness , the author is trying to teach his
audience to see clearly more around them, rather than being ignorant around the world that is
around them. Oedipus, the main focus of the play, is seen blind in an important part of the play,
when his wife, Jocasta, or later to be found out as his mom, finds out that the person she married
is her son, and that she had, had children with him, so in the end she hangs herself, his wife was
blind at the start just like her son, but now she sees that the fate of Oedipus was to come true. In
summation of Oedipus fate that the ancient Greeks believed in very well, once Oedipus was born
his fate in his life was to kill

Executive Compensation Structures And Fraud Research Paper
Introduction:
The past decade has been witness to some of the worst accounts of corporate fraud ever recorded,
with multi billion dollar companies such as Enron, Tyco, and World com involved in serious
financial scandals. CEOs and senior executives are often the driving force behind such
unscrupulous activities by adopting shady accounting practices and other forms of short termist
actions for the purpose of increasing their firm s stock price and their own personal wealth. The
following paper will investigate whether there is a link between executive compensation structures
and fraud or misreporting. Through the analysis of four academic articles, I will show that the
evidence which links compensation tools tied to stock market based ... Show more content on

In practice, the use of stock options in the corporate sector has increased to account for nearly
two thirds of total pay for CEOs in median firms, a figure that trumps 1984 estimates, where
stock options accounted for only 1% of total pay (Denis et al., 2006). So the question we must
ask is when we use stock option based incentives for executives, does the evidence warrant the
need for greater controls or regulation? Denis et al. (2006) briefly explores the idea of the need
for greater outside monitoring, and discusses how the dark side of stock incentive compensation
may require robust corporate governance structures to counter veil the negative effects. Erickson
et al. (2006) points out that regulators and policy makers are quick to link corporate fraud and
stock options. They (Erickson et al. 2006) state that the intent of their research was in part to
resolve the question as to whether there exists evidence that stock based compensation is tied to
accounting fraud. Since no evidence is found, the policy implications for greater controls are
limited. Burns et al. (2006) study has implications for the level of options and equity in CEO
remuneration contracts. Efendi et al. (2007) does not provide any policy recommendations, but do

Hey Ben, have you seen this? my dad exclaimed. Oh shoot, what could it be this time, I
considered? I hoped that it wouldn t be a bad grade, because I had not done anything yesterday
and the days before, as I had been practicing hard for a game against our rival school. Hopefully it
could have been something a kid in his class from Harvard had made, like last week when
someone had made an toy car that ran on carbon dioxide. Seen what Dad? I stammered. Just
come down here! he shouted. Fearing the worst, I wrenched open the door, and bolted down the

When the bell rang I bolted out of science and sprinted across the broken pavement, brushing past
many students. When I got inside, I went through my study guide multiple times, until Ms. Baker,
my teacher, told us to put away our study guides and bring out a pencil. She passed out the test,
and with a groan I saw how thick it was. I opened it and it there were 50 questions! Immediately, I
got stumped on the first question. And then the fifth one. And the seventh, tenth, nineteenth, which
were all about some crazy kid name Bill trying to figure out which bike tire was the best for the
price. When I finally was finished with the test, there was 2 minutes left in the period. I reluctantly
dropped my paper into the scanner, my hand sweaty from nervousness. Slowly I opened my eyes.
No I whispered to myself. I had gotten a B , which I doubted would have raised my grade up to a C

or lower, which would have surely dropped my grade to an F, and make me in a bigger hole than I
was before. So as the bell rang, I reluctantly got my backpack and went to the parking lot where my
dad was going to pick me up. I knew right off the bat that he was going to ask me what I got. So, I
came straight out and told him that I got a B . But I layed it on thick saying that I was sure that
it wouldn t drop my grade, and would probably bring it up. So when we got home, we checked

When the two men come face to face they are both shot from below establishing that there they
are both strong figures, which is an important film noir tactic. The other officers around them are
shot at eye level. The tension between them begins with a racial comment from Quinlin stating
that Vargas doesn t sound like a Mexican. When Vargas reassures Quinlin that he wont he won t
have any trouble with him, Quinlin responds with, you bet your sweet life I wont. The shot ends
with a second of silence focused from below on Quinlin s shadowed face. The use of shadows is
also a key element of film noir, which helps to create the dark and mysterious world that
surrounds the characters. Quinlin increasingly represents a common character in film noir.
Although he is a strong character in the eyes of his fellow officers, he is portrayed as a loner who
has become disillusioned and insecure. His scenes with Tanya Tana (Marlene Deitrich) are
revealing of Quinlin s past and his downward spiral since then. She comments that she didn t
recognize him and that he should lay off the candy bars making it obvious that Quinlin has
physically deteriorated since they were at one time involved. As the film goes on Quinlin falls back
into drinking and spends the later part of the film completely intoxicated. Although Tanya acts

with its flaws basketball is a great sport. The game has grown from a sport with just a few teams

Canada. Basketball has also grown in paying wise, from the original $2.50 for home games and
$1.50 for road game to the now league minimum of $507,336 for players who have not been in
the NBA for ten years to $1,448,490 for those who have been playing for ten years. Basketball
also saw in less then 100 years Juwan Howard get offers from the bullets and heat for $100

Comparison Between Indian Philosopher Bhart And Western...
Introduction: Here I want to show the comparison between Indian philosopher Bhartб№›hari and
Western philosopher Wittgenstein they deal with language and reality. According to them that
language and reality depend on individual, a person can conceive two types of relationships
internal and external. Actually what we think about it, language and reality are internally related is
to conceive language as necessary means of cognizing any reality. The world can be different than
what we perceive or describe and hence our language and reality are contingently related. One of
the greatest creations of Bhartrihar is about the relationship between wordand sentence. The word is
not arrived at by putting together the meaning of each word that constitutes it. Not does the
sentence as a whole have a meaning which can explain by the real meaning of words. On the other
hand, the meaning of sentence is invisible but may be explained by meaning of the real words that
constitute it. 20th century s most famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein famous for his two
treatises namely, Tractatus and Logico Philosopicus and other is Philosophical Investigations. His
Tractatus is best explained as a synthesis of the theory of truth functions and the idea of language is
a picture of reality. For Wittgenstein also, the meaningful unit is not a word but a sentence.
Bhartrihari and wettgenstain say that there is a public component in the meaning of a word; they
speak differently about the presence and the

The Importance Of Social Class In America
Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are
characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of
deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but
with many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher
wages too. Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower
class. Around 14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting
up for foreclosure. The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made
by one issue but rather a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of
however they were permitted, and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which
institutions that should be helping the people to finance. The conviction that material belonging
enhances people s lives and social prosperity pervades in America. As opposed to this belief
different studies demonstrate that materialists contrasted with non materialists have individual and
social prosperity. Compulsive and impulsive shopping, debt, diminished savings overall decrease
the well being of people and other undesirable results have all been connected with materialistic

Gold Standard Essay
The gold standard refers to a monetary system in which the fixed amount of gold is used to
define the value of country s currency and the country s currency is freely interchangeable to
gold. To guarantee convertibility, the supply of money issued by the central back was entirely
restricted by the quantity of gold reserves in the nation. International payments are compensated
in term of gold. Under the gold standard system, the value of a fixed quantity of gold reflects the
value of the country s currency, thus leading to a fixed exchange rate, which is determined by the
gold weights. For instance, if the gold price in the United State is $400 per an ounce, the dollar s
value will be 1/400 for an ounce of gold. As a result, the government needs... Show more content on

First of all, the great advantage of the gold standard is that it portrayed long term price stability. It
was used as the buffer against risk for both monetary policy and inflation expectation as it restrict
the government s power to inflate prices by printing excessive money. Under the gold standard,
further money printed must correspond to amount of gold available in the economy. Thus, it was
nearly impossible for the countries to experience hyperinflation. Another worthy benefit of the gold
standard is that it sets up a fixed exchanged rage among participating counties as well as abolishes
exchange rate volatility. Thus, the system provides a favorable economy in promoting international
trade and investment. Historically, if the price levels in the participating countries were not
balanced, it would be offset by the price specie flow mechanism. which is the automatic balance of
payment adjustment mechanism. For imports country, the use of gold to pay for the goods will
suddenly decrease its money supply and therefor lead to deflation, making to country more
competitive. In contrast, the gold receiving in exchange for goods for the exporters country will
increase money supply and lead to inflation, making the country less

White Trash Primer Essay

The Judgement
In the short, personal memoir, White Trash Primer, Lacy M. Johnson talks about a girl s life
from childhood to her early adult life. Johnson begins her piece by talking about the girl s
childhood that seemed like an average child s life growing up in a rural area. This girl grew up
in a family where her family was constantly working hard on a farm to get by. As time went on,
life s circumstances changed. The child began to mature and the family was forced to move due
to financial problems. From the move, the family went from owning a farm and selling corn and
soy beans, to a family that was forced to work at Wal Mart. Depression eventually takes over the
girl s life and her lifestyle changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another great thing I took away from reading this memoir is that everyone looks at the same
things, but in different ways. For example, the main character in Johnson s memoir constantly went
into Wal Mart looking for a job. After applying six times, she finally got hired.
Some might have seen her as being a pest or an interruption to the other employees, while others
saw her as being a determined individual that knew what she wanted. Everyone saw the same
lady walking into the store, but all of their impressions were very different. Learning that
everyone sees the world in a different manner then led to me wanting to be kind hearted woman
to everyone that I meet. Impressions are everything, so it is better to give a person the benefit of
the doubt since their life stories are not revealed at the time they are seen. The last lesson I took
away from reading Johnson s piece is a person can go from living a comfortable life without the
amenities, but with all the necessities, to a life where there is nothing at all. There are certain
events that happen in your life that can change your life completely.
Johnson is not the only person who is extremely satisfied with this piece. Many of her readers feel
the same joy. One of her readers by the name of Claudia Rankine writes on an online blog saying:
I was riveted by this piece written with the haunting interiority of poetry and the compelling drive
of prose. Much like being caught in a novel by

Medieval European Feudalism
Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic
invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The
constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of
government, which for Europewas feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries,
until the eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan,
although geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE,
which lasted until around 1600. After any strong central power fell off, warring clans needed to
bolster their military prowess, so military leaders began to hire samurai to fight the opposition....

In Europe, monarchs would distribute their land to lords, in return for military service and
protection. These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords,
known as vassals. Like Europe, in Japan, the shogun would give land to the shugo, later known as
the daimyЕЌ, who would then give land to the samurai. However, unlike Europe, these were not
formal contracts made between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on
honor and moral obligations. In Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and
contracts were made to enforce this. The role of the monarch or emperor in both societies
played a very similar role; both the monarch in Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely
figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of central authority in the two states. The
Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on the role of a central power in
Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example, when Pope Gregory VII
had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the king, freeing his
subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. These two systems may
have had their overlap in feudal structure, but the use of moral contracts in Japan would allow
samurai to be free from loyalty to their

Technology And The Military Technology
Insurgent technology though not as advanced as the military technology was arguably more
effective. The insurgent s use of ingenious bomb technology was extremely effective against the
U.S. civilians, U.S. soldiers, and the Iraqi people. It was effective against U.S. civilians because it
made them want the war to stop so that the soldiers in Iraqand Afghanistan would leave, which is
the goal of any insurgency. A bomb s ability to destroy a target depends on two things: its explosive
power and its accuracy. (Kaplan, 13). While the U.S. military was using satellites and lasers to
accomplish this, the insurgents were using simpler means which created the same results, and since
they often did not care about hurting civilian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using a VBIED an insurgent could ram into a checkpoint, military outpost, or civilian center
killing large amounts of people, and oftentimes being nearly unstoppable unless the driver was
shot. Roadside IEDs were dangerous as well, set off by pressure plates, wires, cellphones, and a
seemingly endless amount of other ways men like Brian Castner had to risk their lives to dispose of
these. Castner notes that, Every other heavy foam chunk held an EFP, an explosively formed
projectile a steel and copper and explosive mix that punctures armor and splatters molten metal.
(Castner, 14). It is also important to consider the mental toll that these low tech insurgent weapons
have on the minds of those affected by them. Throughout the entirety of his book Brian Castner
struggles with the mental affects that the war had on him. However, neither of these touch on the
effect these attacks have on the Iraqi people. Living under the threat of constant war will damage
anyone, but examples of the effect that the war had on the civilians can be seen in Restreppo and
the Hurt Locker . In Restreppo , we see the a family seemingly scarred from an airstrike, and in the
Hurt Locker we see people panicking and running as the Iraqi police clear them out when an IED is
found. Using these three and countless

My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course
At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I
had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One
of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was
often not a problem my writingdid not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a
thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree
with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most
with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come
up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the
inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming
classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of
the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to
wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essaystructure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay
more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will
be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I
can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if
my ideas will fit well together. This will also

Building a Solid Work Ethic In Your Children Essay
Throughout my research I have noticed that kids who worked hard and were independent at a
young age became more successful in their futures. Parents who encourage their kids to work
hard in their own advantage are giving their kids a jump start on life. There are many reasons that
parents should work their kids but the main ones are, that kids will be given a jump start in life,
and they will learn important life skills like learningto be independent. Parents who encourage
their kids to work are giving their kids an advantage. Research shows that kids who never worked
for privileges, money , were more likely to be unsuccessful later on. Parents work extremely hard
to put food on the table for their children, If they are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists show that the United States is one of the richest countries and that our teens are
overpowering their authority. By giving in to your children plan your child is suffering. The parents
are teaching their kids to be lazy and that money will fall out of the sky for them. In this hardship
there can be no money wasting when the balance of our economy is at hand. Your child can
learn many important life skills if you push them to work for a goal. The will learn to be
independent because when they turn 18 there will be no one to hand them money. They will
need to learn how to spend their money wisely and work for all their rights. Receiving money is
a privilege not a right and they need to prove themselves. By doing this you child is learning not
to rely on the parents for financial support. Your child will also learn responsibility because they
need to make decisions for themselves and work for their allowance. Parents who hand money
away to their kids are damaging their mental perspective on life. However, if they encourage their
kids to strive for something the child wants the child s perspective is now stronger and better
developed. When your children get married and starts his own life your teachings will reflect on
him. If he relied to much on his parents he will beg for financial support, however, if he worked for
his money at a young age he will most likely be sending you checks for your great

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Imp Of The Perverse
Mariana Falossi
Professor O Brien
LTEN 176
November 8 2017
The Imp of the Perverse American writer and critique Edgar Allan Poe is very well known for
his gothic tales of mystery, suspense, and horror. While his impressive collection of work carry
thrilling themes of fear, death, and tragedy, Poe s work goes beyond the purpose of literary
entertainment and revealing his own inner demons. His writing may be heavily influenced by his
own dark and tragic experiences and losses, but it also reveals unique characteristics of the
disturbing nature of all people in general. One of these characteristics is explained in his short
murderous tale The Imp of the Perverse. This tale explains how a significant part of human nature
is driven by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the consideration of the faculties and impulses of the prima mobilia of the human soul, the
phrenologists have failed to make room for a propensity which, although obviously existing as a
radical, primitive, irreducible sentiment, has been equally overlooked by all the moralists who
have preceded them (____) The narrator explains how this is a failure which leaves room for
error, and believes that root of impulsive behavior leading people to experience perversion for
example is prima mobilia, which is in fact a part of the soul. He defines perversion as the
impulse of doing something counterintuitive to to self help. Overall the idea of acting on impulse
was not being studied and ignored. The narrator feels strongly that people should study and
understand all sides of man, and especially the perverse side. He believes that the way men live
should be based on nature rather than how they should be living. This is not to say that men
should commit murder, rather simply understand what they are capable of and to explain the
natural desire to do so. It would have been wiser, it would have been safer, to classify (if classify
we must) upon the basis of what man usually or occasionally did, and was always occasionally
doing, rather than upon the basis of what we took it for granted the Deity intended him to do)____)

Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration Essay
Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration: A Rhetorical and Literary Analysis
The pen is mightier than the sword. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen
ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence
generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is
more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and
successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet;
his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration
were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect
himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from
his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero
uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I
will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by
commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics.
According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and
epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory
category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric

The Success Rate Of Your Business
In a world full of business there are many opportunities, some that could bring you lots of success.
The success rate of your business depends on the profits or losses of your business. Every business
wants to satisfy their customers and gain profit but sometimes that s not always what the turnout is.
The satisfaction of your customers is dependent on the products or services they have obtained.
However there are nonprofit organizations that are not seeking profit, an example would be an
animal rescue shelter. When it comes to a profitable business, for example a salon, the difference
between the costs and the prices the clients pay is extremely important. A salon is a business with
goals. A salon would be business that s looking for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Businesses are based on the people and the activities going on inside the business. Inside any
successful business there are owners, employees and customers. Then there are the activities that
occur inside which would be management, marketing and finance. Think of a business as a bunch
of classes where there are different groups and roles for each. The employees and management
are actually in the same class because the management is coordinating with the employees to
achieve the satisfaction of the customers. For example the managers of a salon would be there
coordinating with their stylists to make sure that they are performing the services on their
clients with good quality and that they are being efficiently. Then another class group would
contain marketing and consumers. They would be in the same class because the focus of all
marketing activities is to satisfy the customers. For example the marketers of a salon would be
collecting information about the services they provide. They also would figure out changes that
should be made to the salon to make sure the customers are satisfied. Another part of marketing
is advertising which for a salon could be deals on services and creating an email group to notify
the clients. Marketing can be a great thing when it comes to expanding your business. The third
and last class would be owners and finance. This is because it s the owner s responsibility to
provide financial resources for the business. For example

How Do Urban Planners Use Zoning
Urban planners use zoning to designate the land use in the city. Examples of zoning districts
include residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed use. Within these districts, there are certain
uses, permitted use, in which the land is intended; in addition, there are exceptions to these uses.
Zoning can be disadvantageous due to the discriminatory practices based off of race and class;
however, zoningis a very important tool because it provides a guide for future development and

How Do You Think the Asian Passenger Air Transport...
The Asian passenger air transport marketplace will stable and growing rapidly.
The latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), released in December 2010, shows that key
drivers for the marketplace are the replacement of aircraft for newer more eco efficient models in
mature markets, dynamic growth in new emerging markets, the further growth of low cost carriers
particularly in Asia Pacific and Europe, further market liberalisation and capacity growth on
existing routes.
In 2010, views on whether low fare airlines would continue to flourish in Asia varied. Three factors
regulation, population demographics, and socioeconomic trends drove this calculus. Although the
target consumer base for AirAsia was enormous more than 500 million ... Show more content on

Surcharges and baggage fees covered some of this but the airline was conscious that if it loaded on
the full charge, it might find no demand on some flights due to a high base price (e.g. minimum
or zero fare plus taxes, fees and surcharges). To offset this eventuality, AirAsia did a lot to improve
operations and efficiency and also saw the benefits of the fuel efficient Airbus 320 help to maintain
its low fares brand position.
To retain its cost advantage in the wake of the global recession, AirAsia entered into an alliance in
January 2010 with Jetstar, the low fare subsidiary of Australia s flag carrier, Qantas. This was the
first time two leading budget airlines had collaborated in this fashion. The alliance allowed the
companies to explore joint aircraft purchasing, passenger and ground handling services cooperation
and the transportation of each other s passengers in the event of a disruption. Assuming the focus of
the alliance was on cost sharing for services and aircraft procurement, it might prove effective.
AirAsia had played the game very well and had ambitious growth plans to keep ahead of the pack.
Time would tell if Fernandes and his team could maintain the company s position as Asia s or
perhaps the globe s most successful budget airline.
But what were the business implications for AirAsia if oil prices remained above $100 a barrel for
the foreseeable future? Little possibility. Between slim and none

  • 2. A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human... I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in 1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first, a documentary was known as a humandocument because it had emotional ties to the information though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the world of documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about a bigger war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more emotion (Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any bias? All this information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary on tattoos. I personally have tattoos and plan on obtaining more so the challenge here is to take information attained and record it without any of my own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ron Williamson, The Innocent Man Essay The relationship between law enforcement and prosecutors, which goes hand in hand, can t be overlooked. Evidence of a crime that detectives and law enforcement discover is as equally important as a good trial on part of the prosecution. If detectives aren t able to find good solid evidence that case usually isn t bothered in being pursued. Several years ago, in the late 80 s, there was a murder case in Southeastern Oklahoma which now serves as a tragic example to the need for honest, constitutional work in the criminal justice system. Disreputable investigative procedures, fraudulent sources, and bad evidence were the foundation of this case that shattered innocent lives. I wanted to look at the investigative and criminal procedures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a small talk Debbie convinced Gina that she need to come over anymore and that she was fine. Early the next morning of December 8th, the lifeless body of Debbie Carter was found strangled in her small apartment. The murder of Debbie Carter flipped this small, rural, bible belt, town on its head. People were outraged, overwhelmed, and stunned that such a thing could happen in this town to a young, beautiful girl whom everyone had known. This gruesome act put enormous pressure on local law enforcement to find the atrocious criminal. Finger prints, hair, and blood spatter was carefully collected from the scene. Over the next few days dozens of people who had seen Debbie the night of her murder went to the station where they were interviewed, gave blood and hair samples. The investigation seemed promising, but months later leads began drying out and detectives found themselves back at square one. Ada was notorious for the ability to find snitches behind bars that could provide crucial evidence to the District Attorney in return for reduced charges or lighter sentencing. According to a study conducted by the U.S. Sentencing Commission, one out of every five federal defendants receives sentencing reduction for cooperation in for testimonies.(Harris). Unfortunately for Ron Williamson, Terri Holland just happened to be a jail house snitch in Ada who needed to strike a plea deal before trial for what would be her third felony conviction. Types Of Operating Conditions Of Start Ups 4.3.2 Environment After examining the types of operating conditions of start ups, this part will talk about how environmental factors affecting other three categories. Both start ups and incumbents have to face the challenges in terms of environmental factors. Comparing with start ups, incumbents have more experience and resources to deal with the uncertainty about changing environment. Under the environmental category, there are two subcategories including market and political aspect. Market trend. There are many factors of market would influence other three categories. First is the market trend which implies the potential industries or markets in the future. The market trends have great impacts on decision making process of investors. All investors are seeking for higher potential start ups with lower failure rate. They believe that start ups which are following trends would have lower risk and higher growth potential. Three of investors suggested: Our investment depends on the market trend. For example, we used to pay attention on entertaining start ups. Later on we identified the opportunities of B2B start ups, then we turn the sights towards B2B firms. Market comes in waves, and we move according to the market trend. The primary consideration is the potential of industry....Since more Chinese people are concerned about their health issues, we predict that sports and health industries would have great growing potential in the future. Determinants of Fdi in Saudi Arabia FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN SAUDI ARABIA AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE Khalid Alkhathlan, Department of Economics, King Saud University, Riyadh, KSA Md.Tarique, College of Business Administration, Al Kharj, King Saud University, Riyadh, KSA. ABSTRACT Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays an important role in stimulating the growth potentials and providing stability to the economy of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show that there are mainly four factors which determine the net FDI flow to Saudi Arabia. These are GDP, Privatization, Import and Export and Growth rate of GDP. LITERATURE REVIEW Estimates reported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD,1997) suggest that several countries have experienced very rapid growth of the private sector during the transition period. A number of studies have suggested that investment and growth in developing economies is positively associated with indicators of openness and export promotion (Balasubramanyam et al., 1996). Such findings may suggest that investors prefer countries with relatively liberal trade regimes and few constraints on profit repatriation, possibly within regions with wider supra national free trade arrangements. De Mello (2000) analyzed the time series and panel data for 32 OECD and non OECD countries for the period 1970 90. He estimated the impact of FDI on capital accumulation and output growth in the recipient economy supporting the FDI led growth hypothesis. Similarly, Soto (2000); Alfaro, Chanda, Kalelmi Ozcan, Sayek (2004); Li and Liu (2005) found positive impact of FDI on GDP growth. They all used FDI measure as percentage of GDP. Liu et al. (2002) examined the long run relationship between economic growth, FDI and trade in China. A study on the quarterly data for imports, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Walt Disney s Maternal Archetypes An archetype by definition is, an original model or pattern from which other later copies are made, especially a character ( Literary Terms and Definitions A. ) I based myself on recurring images which include animals and the passing of the maternal symbol. Walt Disney was the first to combine both recurring images to portray the importance of the maternal archetype. He did so on widely known animated films in the United States. Walt Disney, the creator of a plethora of Disney films, was the first to establish a special relationship between the mother and the child of commonly known animals. He did so on a notable amount of animated films. Disney uses emotion as one of his strongest focal points. Through the use of emotion, the audience is able to relate to the story. Walt Disney s skillful use of sentiment creates new ways of seeing the maternal archetype. The Trial Of God Book Analysis In the book The trial of god by Elie Wiesel and the movie God on Trial directed by Andy de Emmony, there are many similarities and differences throughout the film and the Novel. Both the author and director capture the points of their stories. The settings of both stories are emotional. Trial of god by Elie Wiesel it takes place right after a pogrom. They perform a play putting god on trial and accused him of staying in silence while they faced evil. In the movie, God on Trial there was a rabbi named Akiba, performed by Antony Sher with the other men in the concentration camp. Rabbis are Jewish religious leaders that are always looked at for guidance. In the movie the rabbi was said to be one of the thirty six rabbis. The character Idek states, He is the rabbi of Zamkevitz. Melamed and is a healer... They say that he is one of the thirty six... the lamed vovnik. The secret saints who are carrying us on their shoulders. They have set their souls on God, and for their sake He does not destroy us. (God on Trial, Dir. Andy de Emmony. Per. Blake Ritson.) In other words, Melamed is a term in biblical times denoted a religious leader or teacher. In Jewish terms the thirty six means life. This brought some hope and light to some of the men in the bunker. Right before the judges were going to give the verdict, the rabbi gave a speech. He complicates the matter further when he says, When David defeated the Moabites, what did he do? He made them lie on the ground in lines, and he chose one to live and two to die. We are become the Moabites. We are learning how it was for the Amalekites. They faced extinction at the hands of Adonai. They died for his purpose. They fell as we were falling. • 8. Analysis Of On Truth Today s political climate is a polarizing topic. Every form of media has an opinion on it from major news outlets to adult animated sitcoms. Harry Frankfurt s book On Truth is relevant to the political storm that is brewing in American society due to the manipulation of the truth by political figures and mainstream media. Frankfurt approaches the importance of truth in a unique fashion and vilifies lies and those who spread them. This directly relates to the election year and how the truth is shrouded in mystery. The Daodejing and Socrates writings, while both important in literature are not as pertinent to the charged political climate that is taking place in the United States right now. For the first time in American history there has been mass protests across the country due to the Republican nominated president elect Donald J. Trump. People from many major cities went to the streets to say things like Not My President and Never Trump. It is safe to say Trump s campaign has been riddled with controversy and has been criticized by both major political parties. Trump s campaign is not the only one with problems. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has been met with constant problems throughout her campaign she has been accused of numerous corruption scandals. The American public is deeply divided and believes they had to pick between the lesser of two evils. This is all a distortion of the truth. Vacation Gone Awry Essays I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to see a sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging. By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word resortled me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I alwayskept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and we would leave as soon as possible. My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite frequently and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause havoc later because he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option. Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice. When my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with their sirens screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He obviously had too much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my dad was back in the van in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so we were off to the next town. The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining town with nothing in it except for a so called resort. • 10. Epiphanies in Joyce s Dubliners and Chaucer s Canterbury... James Joyce s Dubliners is a compilation of stories that all rely on character epiphanies in order to develop each story. These epiphanies change the tone of each story because each yields a negative change or reaction. In both Araby and The Dead , the characters realize or learn something about the world around them, which makes them second guess either themselves or the reason behind their actions. Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales contains at least one tale that relies on an epiphany to help develop theme but it doesn t change the tone or course of the story, it just helps to portray the true meaning of the character. The Pardoner becomes a deeper character because of his epiphany, which is what makes it important to the rest of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another factor that could possibly have helped to cause the Pardoner s epiphany is the pilgrimage, he feels the need to repent for all his hypocrisy and scams so his soul doesn t go a blackberrying (pg 511, ll 78) when he dies. The Pardoner s epiphany doesn t change the course or the tone of the tale in itself, because he continues to act the way he usually does in regards to his relics and pardons. However, at the end of the tale the way he acts towards the travelers is just a cover of how he is truly feeling. The situation is different in Joyce s Dubliners. Each story involves an epiphany that causes the character to have a negative outlook on life. It changes the tone of the story completely. For example, in Araby a young boy has a negative experience at a bazaar, which alters his view of the world. He just wanted to impress an older girl that he loved because she couldn t go to Araby at all. He was so excited and mesmerized by the thought of the bazaar and possibly even winning the girl s love, that even the syllables of the word Araby were called to me through the silence in which my soul luxuriated and cast an Eastern enchantment over me (pg 17). However, the atmosphere of Araby was the exact opposite of what the boy had been imagining because it wasn t exotic at all. Plus, it was dark and empty because he arrived around ... In David Fennell s argument, we can t properly define tourism because we might leave a key element economic activity out, especially if we understand that just in the category of attractions we have museums, festivals, sports, cinemas, theme parks and others. The array of options in the industry of tourism has made it one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. However, its massive scope might not make tourism the best environmental alternative. In the case of ecotourism s definition and scope, it is easier to understand its objective. In Martha Honey s book, she introduced us to the seven characteristics of real ecotourism, which clearly limit the definition to activities to natural destinations with an environmental educational purpose and with the objective of benefiting financially local people and conservation areas. Based on that definition, ecotourism is a better environmental alternative than regular tourism. However, its limited scope and smaller scale programs place ecotourism at a disadvantage regarding financial development. In terms of economic benefits, the tourism industry has been growing at an unprecedented speed. It ranks number third in exports category with 7% of the yearly totals. In 1843, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Birthmark, a tragic and unexpected short story. In the beginning of The Birthmark, Alymer, a man of science, marries a young beautiful woman named Georgiana. One day Alymer noticed a mark on Georgiana s cheek, and over time his obsession with the thought of removing it scientifically caused the death of his wife. Therefore, in the short story The Birthmark, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Alymer pushes the scientific boundaries too far and his experiment is unjustified. In the nineteenth century, the religion in America, was mainly Christianity. Before Christianity, there were the Puritans, they believed that it was necessary to be in a covenant relationship with God in order to redeem one from one s sinful condition, that God had chosen to reveal salvation through preaching, and that the Holy Spirit was the energizing instrument of salvation (Britannica). The Puritans also believed in predestination, which means God knew the future of the person the day they were born. Predestination tied in with John Calvin s theory as well. • 19. Human Moralism In Dante s Inferno Dante s Research Paper In Dante s Inferno, Dante the pilgrim is given the opportunity to take a journey through hell. Dante is at first a coward and is afraid to take the journey but then Virgil, his guide, convinces him to come on the journey. During this time Dante takes advantage of his opportunity to humiliate his enemies and proves to himself he was right about society. One of the sinners he sees on his journey is Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and ended up committing suicide over his guilt. In comparison to Judas, Adolf Hitler committed a similar crime;, he killed millions of innocent people for their beliefs because he did not agree with them, betrayed his country, and committed suicide. Rosa Parks, on the other hand, uses human reasoning like Virgil does in The Inferno. Rosa Parks uses what she knows about how people tend to act and took necessary action to prove her point. By comparing the judgments of Adolf Hitler and Rosa Parks to the judgment in Dante s Inferno, it shows that the unfair treatment of the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed, based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly. The story of Adolf Hitler, 1889 1945, shows another example how the treatment of others the minority in society an absolute standard of human morality over time has not changed based on how the majority believes some mistreat others who believe and act differently in society, and that this advantage is a right, specifically those who are different deserve to be treated unfairly. As a child, Hitler was a troublemaker his sister describes his personally saying: He was a scrubby little rogue, Paula said of her brother, and all attempts of his father to thrash him for his rudeness. . .were in vain (Rosenwald). But Adolf s mother, Klara, was always there to care for him. The Role Of Blindness In Oedipus The King The word blindness can be used thematically and literally; thematically being someone can be ignorant or oblivious to see the truth or world around them, and in a literal sense it means that a person is physically blind. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles the role of blindness literally and thematically is used to show how the character Oedipus is oblivious to see the truth in his life is like Donald Trump, America s forty fifth president, on his views of climate change. Donald Trump is blinded by the fact that climate change is a real problem and in his mind the crazy weather is just the weather itself acting up. The author, Sophocles, of the play Oedipus the King, portrays the word blindness in two ironic ways. Though before the reader learns about this they must understand the purpose of why Sophocles used blindness , the author is trying to teach his audience to see clearly more around them, rather than being ignorant around the world that is around them. Oedipus, the main focus of the play, is seen blind in an important part of the play, when his wife, Jocasta, or later to be found out as his mom, finds out that the person she married is her son, and that she had, had children with him, so in the end she hangs herself, his wife was blind at the start just like her son, but now she sees that the fate of Oedipus was to come true. So the question we must ask is when we use stock option based incentives for executives, does the evidence warrant the need for greater controls or regulation? Denis et al. Introduction: Here I want to show the comparison between Indian philosopher Bhartб№›hari and Western philosopher Wittgenstein they deal with language and reality. According to them that language and reality depend on individual, a person can conceive two types of relationships internal and external. Actually what we think about it, language and reality are internally related is to conceive language as necessary means of cognizing any reality. The world can be different than what we perceive or describe and hence our language and reality are contingently related. One of the greatest creations of Bhartrihar is about the relationship between wordand sentence. The word is not arrived at by putting together the meaning of each word that constitutes it. Not does the sentence as a whole have a meaning which can explain by the real meaning of words. On the other hand, the meaning of sentence is invisible but may be explained by meaning of the real words that constitute it. 20th century s most famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein famous for his two treatises namely, Tractatus and Logico Philosopicus and other is Philosophical Investigations. His Tractatus is best explained as a synthesis of the theory of truth functions and the idea of language is a picture of reality. For Wittgenstein also, the meaningful unit is not a word but a sentence. You need the freedom to celebrate yourself, your failures, your victories, the boring difficult amazing parts. It s all part of the journey. The creative mind is expansive and parallel; the fearful mind is reductive and linear. • 34. Gold Standard Essay The gold standard refers to a monetary system in which the fixed amount of gold is used to define the value of country s currency and the country s currency is freely interchangeable to gold. To guarantee convertibility, the supply of money issued by the central back was entirely restricted by the quantity of gold reserves in the nation. International payments are compensated in term of gold. Under the gold standard system, the value of a fixed quantity of gold reflects the value of the country s currency, thus leading to a fixed exchange rate, which is determined by the gold weights. For instance, if the gold price in the United State is $400 per an ounce, the dollar s value will be 1/400 for an ounce of gold. As a result, the government needs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the great advantage of the gold standard is that it portrayed long term price stability. It was used as the buffer against risk for both monetary policy and inflation expectation as it restrict the government s power to inflate prices by printing excessive money. Under the gold standard, further money printed must correspond to amount of gold available in the economy. Thus, it was nearly impossible for the countries to experience hyperinflation. Another worthy benefit of the gold standard is that it sets up a fixed exchanged rage among participating counties as well as abolishes exchange rate volatility. Thus, the system provides a favorable economy in promoting international trade and investment. Historically, if the price levels in the participating countries were not balanced, it would be offset by the price specie flow mechanism. which is the automatic balance of payment adjustment mechanism. • 35. White Trash Primer Essay English 112 7 May 2013 The Judgement In the short, personal memoir, White Trash Primer, Lacy M. Johnson talks about a girl s life from childhood to her early adult life. Johnson begins her piece by talking about the girl s childhood that seemed like an average child s life growing up in a rural area. This girl grew up in a family where her family was constantly working hard on a farm to get by. As time went on, life s circumstances changed. The child began to mature and the family was forced to move due to financial problems. From the move, the family went from owning a farm and selling corn and soy beans, to a family that was forced to work at Wal Mart. Depression eventually takes over the girl s life and her lifestyle changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another great thing I took away from reading this memoir is that everyone looks at the same things, but in different ways. For example, the main character in Johnson s memoir constantly went into Wal Mart looking for a job. After applying six times, she finally got hired. Some might have seen her as being a pest or an interruption to the other employees, while others saw her as being a determined individual that knew what she wanted. Everyone saw the same lady walking into the store, but all of their impressions were very different. Learning that everyone sees the world in a different manner then led to me wanting to be kind hearted woman to everyone that I meet. Impressions are everything, so it is better to give a person the benefit of the doubt since their life stories are not revealed at the time they are seen. The last lesson I took away from reading Johnson s piece is a person can go from living a comfortable life without the amenities, but with all the necessities, to a life where there is nothing at all. There are certain events that happen in your life that can change your life completely. Johnson is not the only person who is extremely satisfied with this piece. Many of her readers feel the same joy. One of her readers by the name of Claudia Rankine writes on an online blog saying: I was riveted by this piece written with the haunting interiority of poetry and the compelling drive of prose. • 39. Medieval European Feudalism Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of government, which for Europewas feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries, until the eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan, although geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE, which lasted until around 1600. After any strong central power fell off, warring clans needed to bolster their military prowess, so military leaders began to hire samurai to fight the opposition.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Europe, monarchs would distribute their land to lords, in return for military service and protection. These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords, known as vassals. Like Europe, in Japan, the shogun would give land to the shugo, later known as the daimyЕЌ, who would then give land to the samurai. However, unlike Europe, these were not formal contracts made between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on honor and moral obligations. In Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and contracts were made to enforce this. The role of the monarch or emperor in both societies played a very similar role; both the monarch in Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of central authority in the two states. The Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on the role of a central power in Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example, when Pope Gregory VII had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the king, freeing his subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. These two systems may have had their overlap in feudal structure, but the use of moral contracts in Japan would allow samurai to be free from loyalty to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Technology And The Military Technology Insurgent technology though not as advanced as the military technology was arguably more effective. The insurgent s use of ingenious bomb technology was extremely effective against the U.S. civilians, U.S. soldiers, and the Iraqi people. It was effective against U.S. civilians because it made them want the war to stop so that the soldiers in Iraqand Afghanistan would leave, which is the goal of any insurgency. A bomb s ability to destroy a target depends on two things: its explosive power and its accuracy. (Kaplan, 13). Roadside IEDs were dangerous as well, set off by pressure plates, wires, cellphones, and a seemingly endless amount of other ways men like Brian Castner had to risk their lives to dispose of these. Castner notes that, Every other heavy foam chunk held an EFP, an explosively formed projectile a steel and copper and explosive mix that punctures armor and splatters molten metal. (Castner, 14). It is also important to consider the mental toll that these low tech insurgent weapons have on the minds of those affected by them. Throughout the entirety of his book Brian Castner struggles with the mental affects that the war had on him. However, neither of these touch on the effect these attacks have on the Iraqi people. Living under the threat of constant war will damage anyone, but examples of the effect that the war had on the civilians can be seen in Restreppo and the Hurt Locker . • 42. My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a problem my writingdid not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essaystructure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also ... • 45. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration Essay Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration: A Rhetorical and Literary Analysis The pen is mightier than the sword. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet; his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics. According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric ... The latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), released in December 2010, shows that key drivers for the marketplace are the replacement of aircraft for newer more eco efficient models in mature markets, dynamic growth in new emerging markets, the further growth of low cost carriers particularly in Asia Pacific and Europe, further market liberalisation and capacity growth on existing routes. Surcharges and baggage fees covered some of this but the airline was conscious that if it loaded on the full charge, it might find no demand on some flights due to a high base price (e.g. minimum or zero fare plus taxes, fees and surcharges). To offset this eventuality, AirAsia did a lot to improve operations and efficiency and also saw the benefits of the fuel efficient Airbus 320 help to maintain its low fares brand position. To retain its cost advantage in the wake of the global recession, AirAsia entered into an alliance in January 2010 with Jetstar, the low fare subsidiary of Australia s flag carrier, Qantas. This was the first time two leading budget airlines had collaborated in this fashion. The alliance allowed the companies to explore joint aircraft purchasing, passenger and ground handling services cooperation and the transportation of each other s passengers in the event of a disruption.
